Something I find particularly interesting is the fact that only Ruby actually saw the memory, and thus is the only one to KNOW of Summer leaving with Raven.
Now that’s not to say I think Ruby won’t TELL Yang, and by extension Weiss and Blake, what she saw, particularly if she decides they need to go after Raven to get some answers.
But that won’t change the fact that Ruby is the only one to see this vision, while Yang, Blake, Weiss and anyone else didn’t. Ultimately, this knowledge of Raven being the one to know what happened to Summer is Ruby’s alone. And that could have some intriguing implications going forward.
I’ve spoken before in my Rosebird parents theory posts about how odd it feels that Ruby seemingly doesn’t have any connection to Raven, while Yang has links to all four members of her parents’ team. Well with this knowledge, I think we’ll be seeing the development of such a connection.
Because this time it won’t be Yang driving the impetus to track down Raven, but Ruby. This time it’s Ruby who has the questions that ONLY Raven can answer. Certainly Yang would also be interested in this information, but again she’s not the only who actually saw the vision. This would ultimately be HER journey for answers.
This vision creates a link specifically between Ruby, Raven and Summer, and gives Ruby a reason to seek out Raven for answers.
And going by how these tropes of ‘seeking out a mysterious figure closely connected to a character’s mother’ often play out, I think it’s all too possible that those ‘answers’ are going to include a surprise reveal that Ruby’s ‘father’ wasn’t who she thought... XD

...everyone in team strq keeps secrets of some kind. qrow had his semblance (and shapeshifting, kinda), raven's got being the spring maiden and her reasons for leaving, summer her mission (that i don't think she was being fully honest about with anyone).
so what does taiyang "i've got to... look after some things" xiao long have?
i don't think it's simply his refusal to talk about raven (and possibly summer), because it doesn't quite fit with the rest; it's not about him or what he's doing, if that makes sense. he could talk about everything and all, and it would not bring the answers desired.
and i do think he has a secret (or two) just for himself. something that possibly even his teammates don't know about; qrow says "there were a lot of those back in our day, but" in reference to the possibility that ozpin knew something about summer's mission that qrow and tai didn't, opening a room for oz secrets that weren't shared across the board; "still, who knows what he may have hidden from us over the years." <- that's an open door right there.
but my main reason for thinking so comes from 'known by its song' and raven casting doubt not only on qrow but tai as well on leaving things out, which seems slightly odd considering how... uninvolved tai seems to be in all things oz & salem in the present day.
"well, [qrow's] never given me a reason to doubt him before" -> "that doesn't mean those reasons don't exist."
"your uncle qrow and i didn't attend beacon to become huntsmen, we did it to learn how to kill huntsmen. daddy and uncle left that part out, hm?"
"you said tai told you all about my semblance. well, i doubt he ever told you what oz did to my brother and me." <- this, especially. tai talked, but he said nothing about oz-related stuff. not when he slipped up about what ruby did at the beacon tower. not when yang left, likely knowing she (and ruby) were getting involved in this stuff. even when he talks with qrow, he's being vague with his wording.
it reminds me of this quote from the official companion book: "to me, taiyang is the ultimate dad. he doesn't spend a lot of time talking about his emotions, but he's been through a lot. i think about men who went to war and experienced horrible things, but when they came back to support their families they never spoke a word about it. they took all that to the grave."
his team is full of secrets and he's got to look after some things (<- plural!!!) and if he's not the dragon guarding the treasure, i don't know what he is.

anyways. enough spitballing
i was so right abt fun parent tai
YANG: Do you… wonder why he’s not here? With everybody else? I know Qrow said he’s on assignment, but what’s more important than here? RUBY: Maybe we don’t have the full picture. YANG: I don’t know. Some things you just need to be there for.
first. there are two possibilities: if qrow knows what this “assignment” is, he hasn’t filled in his nieces and the old guard backslid HARD after team rwby fell—the exclusion of ren and nora from the secret meeting in B1 also points in that direction, so it feels quite plausible; on the other hand, if raven knows where tai is and what he’s doing, it seems strange that ruby and yang would not also know, unless the girls haven’t asked her about summer at all (in which case i’d believe that they’re just not really on speaking terms).
like if raven had a conversation with ruby about summer, i can’t see her hiding ‘the full picture’ with regard to tai if she knew about it, even if qrow wanted her to. maiden of knowledge, begrudging oz his secrets, and all.
on the other hand. if the girls know everything qrow does, that would imply that tai’s “assignment” is either an ozpin secret (and oz hasn’t been keeping his promise to be honest, which feels incongruous with him actively fighting his curse now) or a taiyang secret, in which case i am one hundred percent sure it isn’t to do with the crown of choice.
“maybe we don’t have the full picture,” says ruby, thinking about what the blacksmith showed her and what the blacksmith said. that’s the big lesson she learned in the tree, not to jump to conclusions on incomplete information. so that narratively links tai’s mysterious “assignment” to summer’s mysterious “last mission,” which was a “summer secret.” if tai stayed behind in vale to deal with a taiyang secret that not even oz knows about… it’s summer. lol. it can only be summer. if it were the crown, oz would know because ozpin would have given him that assignment in the first place; if it were defending people hiding in mountain glenn, there’s no reason for it to be secret.
but if he knows summer is alive and well and with salem, and he’s trying to, i don’t know, turn her against salem (or ‘save’ her)… well. maybe we don’t have the full picture indeed.
second. oouuugh the weight of what yang doesn’t say. back in v4 she forced herself to put on the prosthetic before she was ready and white-knuckled her way back to functional so she could go find ruby because her dad said he hadn’t gone after ruby because he had “some stuff to look after” at home, and yang thought he meant her; that the only reason he wasn’t out there with ruby was because he had to be here with her.
so she removed herself from the situation—left to find ruby herself—and tai… stayed at home. it’s been months, now. atlas fell and everyone is regrouping in vacuo, trying to prepare for an attack they know will come sooner or later, except tai, who is “on assignment.” what’s more important than here? what’s more important than being here with both his daughters, at the end of the world? if qrow knows, what’s so important that he has to keep them in the dark? if qrow doesn’t know, then it can’t reasonably be to do with the relic at beacon—which is the only thing that could arguably be more important than joining the vacuo coalition.
“some things you just need to be there for,” says yang. my dad just kind of… shut down. and then dad was always busy with school and ruby couldn’t even talk yet; i had to pick up the pieces. i had to keep things together, alone. ruby starts to reminisce about coming to this place with tai when they were kids, and it’s a fond memory for yang too…but one undercut with all of this. the outings were fun—they slowly increased from once a month treats to twice-a-week because ruby got so excited—(ruby is over the moon when she sees the boba shop; yang spends half the walk there second-guessing herself and downplaying the surprise; both reactions speak to their experiences of these outings in childhood)—and why isn’t he here now? why is it, once again, yang trying to pick up the pieces alone while he’s busy with something else more important?—and this time it isn’t even that he’s going to work to put food on the table and make sure bills get paid, he’s just “on assignment” doing… something. that qrow either won’t tell or doesn’t know.
and that feeling is what incites her to talk to ruby about her own failings, and the first thing she says is i don’t need an explanation, because she doesn’t want to make ruby’s crisis about herself but also because she’s about to apologize for not being attentive enough or present enough or aware enough to Be There when ruby needed her.
which is not untrue (surprise! parentified children don’t make good parents for their two-years-younger siblings!) but also. back in v5 when she confronted raven, yang compared herself to raven (you’ll give me the relic and run because you’re afraid of salem; i’m afraid of salem too but i’ll be here waiting for her when she comes after me).
and that’s what yang is doing here with tai (he was physically there and provided for their needs and took them on fun outings sure, but he wasn’t there, when yang looks back on her childhood what she remembers is a sense of overwhelming responsibility and isolation because her dad wasn’t present, and now he’s not even here; she let ruby down in a similar way, being around without really seeing what ruby was going through, but she sees now how she failed and knows what she needs to do to make up for it and she will, she promises, she already is.)

Do you think Adam was nerfed?
Pretty much everyone was nerfed.
Cinder's cunning and personality was nerfed right after V3 because the show really wanted to sell the viewers on "those other evil guys that totally always were planned to work for Salem". It took her eight seasons to somehow remember that she can...use her intellect?!
Leviathan being taken out by a some mech after the show and the cast hyped up underwater Grimm so much.
Goliath getting taken out by a teenager who has not really shown to have improved in any way from the last time she got told she can't even scratch it.
Adam went on from slicing mechs in half and one-shotting charged up angry Yang of all people to getting one-hit-clowned by Blake during Haven nonsense.
Weiss went from having all those cool glyphs she uses to barely ever using them again.
Blake would very likely get defeated by one or two Grimm nowadays.
Raven was positioned as one of THE strongest characters in the story with a mysterious backstory. Her fighting prowess AND her plot importance BOTH got nerfed.
Remember when Ozpin was a freaking badass with all the weird cool abilities and when he was mysterious and ambiguous and had plans and secrets? Only for the show to tell us that he go clowned by two angsty teenagers that were beefing with their Tree-Dad? And that in grand scheme of history of the world and everything that's going on Ozpin is basically a nobody?
Remember when Glynda was a powerhouse and actually mattered in the story?
Remember the story of the great White Fang leader Sienna Khan jobbing to a sneak attack?
Remember when a single Nevermore posed more challenge than dozens of new and improve and creepy and unique Grimm some of which even Cinder (for some reason) was afraid of?
The characters and monsters both end up getting nerfed for multiple reasons. Mainly:
So they don't have to create and animate more complex fights.
So they don't have to actually bother to write a creative way to use the character powers or have to write situations where they can't just go and say "Ruby tapped this Grimm with her scythe and it fell over".
Because the people writing it just seemingly really lack any imagination of how to use countless of extremely well designed eldritch monsters
Because the people writing it just seemingly really lack any imagination of how to use dozens of characters with their unique power sets and worldviews. Its the issue present in the writing of entire show. They decide specific thing needs to happen and then just make it happen somehow rather than writing actual progression toward it. Be it the need to distrust Ozpin, Atlas mess, character traumas magically disappearing, broken moon, etc. It all happens "somehow".

Cerise and Ramona should've been Cousins!!!!!
Hi, before we begin my rant this is just my opinon on how the Cerise & Ramona storyline should've been handled. I'm aware that Ever After High was a toy line to sell dolls but somethings could've been avoided. This is one of them!
I'll explain who's who in the Hood/Badwolf family, history, theories, and why Cerise and Ramona would've worked better as cousins.
Cerise Hood
Let's begin pre-Ramona introduction with Cerise Hood.
Cerise is the daughter of Red Riding (Ruby) Hood and an unknown father. Cerise spent her childhood in the Dark Forest near the outskirts of Hood Hollow where two families the Hoods and the Wolfs reside in a huge rivalry due to the 'Little Red Riding Hood' story.
Tumblr media
When Cerise came of age she was accepted to attend Ever After High School a school dedicated in teaching the future fairy tale teens their destiny.
Despite being one of the most popular fairy tales Cerise was a loner. Raven thought during Freedom Year that Cerise would be friends with Cedar, Maddie, and her. Even though she and Cedar are roommates Cedar only knew that Cerise slept with her hood on and snores loudly. Despite Cerise's aloof nature she did interact with her future friends, but she was still a mystery to them. Cerise's peers find it strange that she wears a hood all the time and she explains it's a part of her story to wear a red hood, they accept it.
Tumblr media
In 'The Cat Who Cried Wolf' ' not only is Cerise half-wolf she's also the daughter of Bad (Breaker) Wolf.
Tumblr media
This explains why she's so muscular, athletic, and secretive - she can't have anyone knowing about her family secret.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Legacy Day, Cerise becomes more open, confident, and gains friendships with both Royals and Rebels. Seeing how all she had was her father and mother due to her heritage, both parents are proud she has found people she can trust. Cerise gets involved in many sports teams and managed to become MVP something she wouldn't have done before.
The only people who know/maybe know that Cerise has both her parents' destiny are:
Raven: The leader of the Rebel's and the first-person Cerise told the secret to. Cerise tells Raven the truth about her family and Raven not only the did Raven swore not to tell anyone keeps it a secret but covers up, so Cerise won't be exposed. No matter what the other is going through they will defend each other.
Maddie: In 'The Secret Diary of Raven Queen' Maddie and Raven were invited to stay at Cerise's place during spring break and Maddie reveals the Narrators told her already in 'The Unfairest of Them All'. Seeing as Maddie is a sweetheart, she kept quiet about it until Cerise told her and called her wolf ears 'silly' so no one would know the truth. Also, her dad was Ruby and Beaker's marriage officiant in Wonderland so he may have told her afterwards.
Kitty: Kitty finds out during Cerise and Carmine's run through the woods and threatens to expose the secret in front of their classmates as a joke. This is before 'Spring Unsprung' when Kitty realizes that some things are not funny! The only reason Kitty never tried to expose Cerise was because she never does the same prank twice and after Raven used a speed spell on her, not worth getting a worse punishment. Also, I think Kitty's mom was a witness to Ruby and Breaker's wedding and may have told Kitty at one point in time, Kitty thought she was messing with her.
Cedar: Cedar is cursed to tell the truth and Cerise has one of Ever After's biggest secret. You'd think being roommates would make things very awkward, and they were at first but now the two are friends! Cedar did get hints of Cerise snoring loudly, but never seen her without her hood. She knows something is up with Cerise, but doesn't ask due to her truth curse. In my fanfic ' Way to Wonderland (Rewrite)' Cedar finds but keeps quiet about it.
Dexter: Cerise and Dexter seem to be on friendly terms even when Raven isn't around. Dexter found out about Cerise's wolf ears in 'Once Upon a Twist: Cerise and the Beast' and when they returned Dexter claimed he hit his head and forgot everything. He lied to protect Cerise and keeps a close eye on her to make sure her hood doesn't accidently fall off again.
Ginger: Ginger and Cerise are childhood friends so growing up Ginger may have noticed somethings about Cerise. Ginger respects Cerise privacy and Cerise will tell her herself, and Ginger will accept her no matter what.
Hunter: Hunter is one of Cerise's friends as both are Rebels and athletic. Hunter doesn't believe the rumor going around that Cerise is his half-sister, but he is protective about her when Ramona and Mr. Badwolf are around. Like everyone else, he'll gladly accept her (and be grateful that the rumors about his dad having an affair are over with)!
Justine: In her diary Ramona texted Cerise to save Ramona. This would seem strange to Justine since at that point Cerise and Ramona weren't so close.
Rosabella: Cerise is listed as Rosabella's friends, and she probably read Cerise's aura and saw a wolf spirit inside her. At first, Rosabelle thought it was Cerise's spirit animal.
Ramona: I'll explain how Ramona found out about Cerise in her section.
The History of Badwolf & Red
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 'The Cat Who Cried Wolf' Cerise shows a family photo in her locket of her, Red Riding Hood (Ruby), and Mr. Badwolf (Breaker) in human form. But, when a button on the locket is clicked it shows Breaker in mid-transformation.
I don't disapprove of Cerise carrying a locket with her family inside, but if a certain someone found it *COUGHMILTONCOUGH* that would be disastrous! Even a student like Faybelle, Duchess, Blondie (maybe not she does have standards), or Sparrow might find it and expose them.
Tumblr media
Ruby and Breaker were students at Ever After High, with the Hoods and Wolfs rivalry this was probably the first time the two met. Breaker would hang out with The Evil Queen (Eagle), Dark Fairy (Darcy), and Candy Witch (Candy) as the bad kids. Breaker did seem to have a crush on Raven's mom before crushing on Ruby, and the Evil Queen and Ruby were roommates during Legacy Year (sophomore year) - so, you know that's kinda *cough* awkward.
In 'Class of Classics' Breaker and Ruby were partners in a school project for theatre class. At first, Ruby saw Breaker as nothing but a class clown and was worried about her grade. The two became smitten with each other and hit common ground on both their ideas for the project and started crushing on each other.
Years later Ruby and Breaker married in Wonderland by the Mad Hatter (Hatthew) as the marriage officiant with The Cheshire Cat (Catherine) and Maddie's mother as witnesses. Due to the strict rules of Ever After if Ruby and Breaker married there would've been a riot or something. After, they had Cerise and did everything to keep their marriage and daughter a secret out of fear of going off-script.
Since both Ruby and Breaker had a theatre class together if Breaker wasn't the General Villiany teacher he would've been teaching theatre. He was a class clown in his youth, but preferred to be called a performer and we saw his acting skills in 'Cerise's Picnic Panic'. But knowing how bias Headmaster Milton Grimm is he wouldn't allow it (Giles would)!
In 'Unfairest of Them All' Cerise had to reveal that Red Riding Hood and Bad Wolf are her parents to prevent both the Hoods and Wolfs from throwing Raven in the river to most likely drown. Once exposed both Hoods and Wolfs come together to - banish Cerise from Hoods Hollow. Grandma (Ruby's mother and Cerise's grandmother) holds a contest to see if Cerise stays or is banished. Long story short - Cerise wins and the Hoods and Wolfs keep Cerise's heritage a secret, but Ruby's people turned their backs on her and Breaker maybe did the same. The only people in Hood Hollow who probably still associate with them is Grandma and Woodrow Wolf (Badwolf's distant cousin).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 'Next Top Villian', ' Cerise's Picnic Panic', and 'Class of Classics' Breaker is seen in human form which is a bad idea if you go back to the locket part above. I would've made him in his time as a student switch between human and wolf form. As he got older he spent less time in human from, when Ruby announces she pregnant and gets hired at Ever After High he stays in wolf form permanently so when Cerise attends school no one will see that they're related.
Ramona
Tumblr media
Ramona first appear appeared 2015 in Justine's diary where it said she was Badwolf's daughter and Cerise almost called her sister. Ramona made her cartoon in the Dragon Games, Moonlight Mystery, A Big Bad Secret, and Epic Winter.
But, wait, where has she been all this time? Apparently, she in the Dark Forest Reform School.
Yeah, that -that was just wrong.
Tumblr media
We spent years believing that Cerise would inherit both her parents' roles. Cerise even had a Cerise Wolf doll for crying out loud! All that buildup, angst, and hope for nothing!
No hate on Ramona or the EAH crews' character decision, but one character having two conflicting destinies sounded more interesting.
Tumblr media
When Ramona was first introduced, she was tough- as- nails, rude, edgy, and sarcastic. She was looking forward to becoming the next Big Bad Wolf and showed it.
But she is also loyal to the people she cares about like when: she alerted Cerise when Justine left to stop Duchess from cheating on a dance show, pointed out flaws in Humphrey's tech, helped Justine find out why her shoes were damaged, and lightened up on her teasing with Cerise.
There was so much hype about Ramona, but sadly she never got a doll or diary (along with many other characters that have been around since chapter one, but that's another story) due to the series cancellation.
Tumblr media
From what I can go by is she's interested in sports and will most likely join track and shield. She may have an artsy side to her due making a snow wolf and heavy makeup she wears that contrasts Cerise's natural look. There's so much we don't know about her!
Tumblr media
If you notice in the photo Ramona isn't there. Ramona would've been besides Cerise and leaving Ramona out of the photo is just hurtful. In 'The Secret Diary of Raven Queen' Raven visited Cerise, but Ramona was spending the break with one of her friends. In 'Cerise's Picnic Panic' Ramona wasn't there for the family picnic, because she was in reform school at the time. When you get older you realize you won't be around for every family event. But, 'The Cat Who Cried Wolf' came out in 2013 & 'Cerise's Picnic Panic' came out in 2014 and Ramona didn't appear until 2015 in Justine's diary and 2016 during the Dragon Games, Moonlight Mystery, A Big Bad Secret, and Epic Winter. So, take that with a grain of salt.
Tumblr media
I believe Ramona going to reform before the Royal vs Rebel thing happened, most likely Freedom year and it had something to do with Cerise. Blondie even asked Cerise if she was responsible Ramona being sent to Dark Forest Reform School due to rumors.
How the heck does reform school work in the world of Ever After High? I mean we have Faybelle - who takes ever opportunity to be evil, yet was never sent away. Raven rebelled, Headmaster Grimm even admitted the only reason he didn't expel her was because of her story. He even threatened to expel Ginger. What the heck did Ramona do?
We never did find out if Ramona was a Royal or a Rebel but going by her gloves in the image above, she's a Rebellious Royal (if that makes any sense). But like Kitty, Poppy, and many others she's not listed in any group.
My Cousin Headcanons
Now, the moment we've been waiting for: my headcanon on why Ramona and Cerise should've been cousins. I'll explain who Ramona's parents are, the rivalry between the Hoods and Wolfs, and etc.
Tumblr media
Like most siblings Ramona and Cerise have a rivalry due to keeping the who their parents are a secret until graduation.
Tumblr media
In my cousins headcanon: Ramona has no clue that she and Cerise are related and picks on Cerise due to it's their destiny to be enemies. This takes place during Freedom Year so Cerise tries to brush it off, but Mr. Badwolf won't let Ramona get away with it. This confuses Ramona, why would her uncle (actually, distant cousin) being protective of the future Red Riding Hood. Time skip - Ramona is at Dark Forest Reform School before the end of Freedom Year.
Tumblr media
Ramona returns to Ever After High School, but it's like after the first month of school to a week before Legacy Day so she can pledge with her classmates. Ramona is back to her old tricks, but Cerise has gain some confidence since she last saw her which almost startles her (almost). Ramona finds out about rumors of Raven not wanting to sign and Cerise befriending Raven Queen.
The day after Legacy Day which is called Yester Day when Headmaster Grimm makes the students talk to previous generations with similar destinies to see the importance of their stories. Ramona most likely visited Mr. Badwolf and was nowhere near Hood Hollow when Cerise revealed herself as a Hood and a Wolf.
Tumblr media
Later, Mr. Badwolf tells Ramona the truth about Cerise being his daughter. It all makes sense now: why her uncle (distant cousin) has a 'World's Baddest Dad' mug in 'Next Top Villian' and why he defends Cerise. Not only is Ramona hurt by the betrayal that her uncle not only married a Hood but Red Riding Hood. And with the revelation of Cerise being her uncle's child Ramona realizes she may not have a destiny anymore if Cerise inherits it. Ramona stars acting out more and disrespecting Mr.Badwolf the only person in the school she ever respected and looked up to.
Tumblr media
Ramona tries to antagonize Cerise, seeing her as weak for not letting her hood down and embracing her Wolf side. But Cerise is no longer the damsel-in-distress she was Freedom Year and can stand up to Ramona's words and paws.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One day things go so far that Mr.Badwolf sends both girls to his office. Inside Ruby, Raven, Grandma, and Woodrow are there to clear things up. Ruby, Raven, Grandma, and Cerise describe how the Hoods and Wolfs tried to throw Raven in the river, Cerise revealing her heritage to stop them, almost getting banished and the race. Woodrow and Ramona are shocked, they are aware both sides don't get along, but never have they tried to drown or banish anyone. Ramona realizes how dangerous Cerise's situation is and if Headmaster Grimm finds out it'll be even worse!
If the series continued Cerise's secret would've been revealed to everyone proving Headmaster Grimm's whole 'follow your destiny or you'll disappear forever' is a lie. Ramona will be one of many to defend Cerise if anyone tries to harm after the truth is revealed.
Once, everything settles down (or at least somewhat close) Ramona and Cerise form a friendly rivalry in sports and bond more with each other.
The reason I made Mr. Badwolf Ramona's uncle/distant cousin is because in 'Once Upon a Time' it said that Mr. Badwolf has a distant cousin named Woodrow Wolf, who owns Huff and Puff Glass Blowers and makes cups, vases, and delicate glass flowers in the same beach village Cedar Wood lives. Ramona is the daughter of Woodrow and a werewolf woman. Once, they find out about Cerise and Badwolf marrying Red Riding Hood their one of the first besides Grandma to accept them.
The reason Ramona was believed to be the next Big Bad Wolf despite not living in Hood Hollow is because she's the oldest of her cousins. There are many Wolf family members in Hood Hollow, but there might be an age gap since the Wolfs that were named: Cranky Wolf and Horribus Wolf are adults while Cry Wolf is a child.
So, in the final book/episode everyone can choose their destiny and Cerise can let her hood down and changes her name to Cerise Hood-Wolf (you can share both parents' last name if you choose), the conflict in Hood Hollow has ended, and everyone is one big happy family!
P.S. I can see Sparrow begging Cerise, Ramona, and Mr.Badwolf to turn him part wolf since he's family (distant cousin). They most likely howls enough with his music and doesn't need to be transformed and accepts that he's an honorary Wolf.
Well, I hope y'all enjoyed my headcanon, I plan to do more in the future, bye!

Tai "guarding" the Crown Makes No Sense
I dislike the idea that Tai is the guardian of the Crown because it feels so utterly nonsensical to me.
Choosing a guy who seems to dislike Oz's conspiracy and its impact on his life makes no sense. Choosing a man who has spent nearly two decades as a high school martial arts instructor makes even less sense. He is not going to do shit against any of Salem's elites, save her tech guy.
So unless Tai is some kind of insanely powerful god level fighter, him being its guard rather than all the academy staff (Minimum) is a horrendous idea and invites so many questions and plot holes on its face.
If he is that strong why not have him help clear Beacon? Is it a one pump thing? How was Ozpin protecting the crown before Tai was born? This makes no sense.
Plus he is either at work or at the house, meaning its either just at a different school with even more vulnerable students or its beneath a house that two children lived in.
Lets also keep in mind that the Relics are Grimm lures so that's obscenely dangerous and stupid even if we ignore the fact he'd not even be on hand to protect it a lot of the time. Hell, there's also that one person is a terrible guard in concept because they need to sleep!
Even more than all that, it fails to me on a narrative and thematic level because it also means the conspiracy has fallen back hard on keeping secrets. Because there is literally zero reason to hide this from Ruby & Yang.
In fact, it only makes things actively worse because they cant make informed decisions, which was kind of the main sticking point about Ozpin's secrets in V6.
Conclusion:
The only context in which "Tai is guarding the crown" makes any sense is that he's just hanging out at whatever more sensible place Ozpin stashed it.
With his soul bond to Raven meaning if and when Salem Shows up she can just disgorge a horde of Hunters, Maidens and war machines via a portal in ambush.
But again, there is no reason to hide that, not unless they all know its basically just using Tai as a one of sacrifice for a one off ambush and they don't want to hear protest.
Thing is, that doesn't align thematically even with the "Older generation fucked up" angle that STRQ embodied. Qrow's drinking wasn't something Oz made him d, Raven wasn't forced to run away, Summer chose to keep secrets.
It breaks the trend because while the show was sympathetic to Qrow's drinking, It did not ignore that it was and long has negatively impacted Ruby & Yang. This would basically just be a "The girls drop everything to stop their dads noble/foolish sacrifice" It makes it all about him and not the actual main characters.

I think probably the most painful thing that Tai could be doing right now on his mission is if it turns out that Raven wasn't the only person who had any idea what happened to Summer.
Like it turns out that he might have initially been ignorant, but then found out later on that Summer was not dead, but doing something...and he just kept his mouth shut out of misguided loyalty, strong disdain and hurt feelings towards his former team members, and holding Summer up on a pedestal, out of some cockamamie hope that he could somehow get her back.
Like, it'd hurt like hell if Yang and Ruby found out this was the case; that their dear old dad was keeping this kind of giant secret from them all this time and was hypocritical enough to hold so much against their other family and keep his own daughters out of the loop.
And it'd be very akin to a Sun taken to the worst extreme with his own version of Blake; someone who is so fixated on helping one person at the expense of his own team, his own family, while also being too stuck in his own little world to consider how much this would hurt them in the process when they inevitably find out.
Oh damn, that's one hell of an idea.
I can't even imagine the level of betrayal the girls would feel.

So why is Oz being given the excuse of "being 14" when he isn't but RWBY are being demonized despite being only a few years older and having endured massive trauma?
I don't think you're being very even-handed here.
Thing is, I'm not demonizing team RWBY. I 100% see where they're coming from and why they're so upset about being lied to.
And I'm not excusing Oz's actions, it's just not as simple as "Oz lied for no reason about something extremely important"
Thing is, Oz had JUST been betrayed by someone who he genuinely thought was a friend (Leo). He was much more guarded and closed off because of this, reasonably so, and likely took it harder because this isn't the first time he's been betrayed.
And before someone says "He should have told them from the beginning!"- Oz barely knows team RWBY/RNGR/JNPR. For the entirety of the very short time he's known them, he's been their adult teacher and mentor, as well as leader. He's only known them for maybe 2 years at most, and again, at least HALF of that was as their teacher/Headmaster. He likely hadn't interacted much with them during the Beacon Era either, given he was their Headmaster and thus was busy. So technically he's only known them on an 'even' level for maybe a few months by v6, and even then he was a mentor figure.
So, there was absolutely NO reason why Oz would've trusted team RWBY/JNPR with that kind of information. If he couldn't even trust his own friends with that information, why would he trust a bunch of teenagers he hardly knows??
And before anyone says that Oz should've told them because he 'dragged them into it', reminder that it was QROW that told ruby that their contacts thought something was going to happen in Mistral. Qrow was the one who told RNJR the basic rundown of the truth that he knew. And no, Oz admitting Ruby into Beacon early doesn't count because she was going into Beacon anyways.
Also about Oz technically being 14- he no longer has an adult body. His mind might be that of an adult, but he possesses an underdeveloped child (unwillingly). Oscar is his current host, and Oz possesses EVERY part of him, including his brain. Teenagers brains are underdeveloped in certain parts, which results in irrational decisions and emotional immaturity. It's likely why Oz hid himself away after being verbally and physically attacked and cornered.
I personally think Oz wouldn't have run away had Yang and Qrow not attacked him. This was the ONLY time we've so much as seen Oz visibly upset, especially upset enough to cry. His trauma was laid bare in front of him without his permission; it literally showed the death of his children and how he was an alcoholic for lifetimes afterwards.
And, for the record, I DO NOT BLAME RUBY for using Jinn to get answers. I see why she did so, and honestly I would've done the same thing. She had no idea WHAT Jinn was going to tell her, so I can't fault her for asking the question.
However, I do judge Yang and Qrow for how they treated Oz, and by extension, Oscar. Yang was extremely fast to get hostile (I don't blame her entirely for it), and Qrow full on punched a 14 year old boy in the face and never apologized for it (oscar visibly was in a lot of pain when Oz dipped). Yang has always been hostile towards Oz, even getting mad over him giving the branwen twins the ability to turn into birds (willingly on their part). Yang seemed to take the word of Raven with seemingly no issue despite her history (or lack thereof) with Raven when it comes to Oz.
Blake, really the only issue is that she didn't try defending Oz considering Salem and Adam are extremely similar characters.
Weiss only indirectly compared Oz to her dad, which... is still a little yikes, but I don't have an issue with her.
Again, I don't have an issue with Ruby either.
And, saying it again, I see WHY they were hurt by Oz lying/keeping the truth a secret. I'd be pissed too if someone I thought was a friend/mentor lied to me too.
I hope I got my thoughts on the subject across clearly. I highly doubt anyone will read this, let alone agree considering people have such a string hatred for Oz lol. But if you do read it, and at least consider my opinion, I'd be happy anyways even if I'm still disagreed with. 🤷‍♂️

Raven: ... you do remember that you are a grown ass man and can make your own decisions, right?
Tai: Oh I know. Which is why it's my decision to have my daughters evaluate whether or not I should give you a second chance.
Yang: And considering you abandoned me at birth.
Ruby: And went on a secret mission with our mom and didn't have the stomach to tell dad and left it to uncle Qrow.
Tai: Things aren't looking to good for you.
Raven: How do you even know about tha-
Ruby/Yang: A magical tree that happens to be the mother of the gods show me/her.
Raven: *gives a what the fuck look to Tai*
Tai: Need I remind you that you can turn into a bird.
Raven: Fair enough... By the way, why is she here? *points to Blake sitting next to Yang*
Blake: I am dating Yang. *Gets pulled into a protective hug by Yang*
Raven: Really? *looks Blake up and down then to Yang* Nice.
Ruby: *leans over to her dad and whispers* Should we give her points for not being homophobic or racist?
Raven: Hey!
Tai: She is a bandit so I think like half point.
Raven: HEY!

Honest opinion on Taiyang and/or Raven?
I feel like Tai is one of those characters that the show tries to convince us are two different people. There's the fact that he more or less shut down and neglected his young children for implied years (if Yang considers herself to have 'raised Ruby,') and then there's the dad that Ruby and Yang act like is a loving present father they have no real problems with that knows them so well. It makes Tai feel like a weird inconsistent character.
I like Tai mostly in my headcanons, as I have this whole thing in my head where he pretty much adopted Qrow as a brother and loves him a lot, and actually didn't shut down for long, and is a much more present parent. My sister and I even came up with a funny concept for one of our stories that branched off of volume six where Sun stayed with Team RWBYJNROQ on their adventure, and Tai was trying to track them down and wound up meeting up with Neptune who was doing the same thing and they had these silly adventures. But in canon, Tai feels like he was just shuffled off to the side and his past mistakes literally just don't seem to impact his kids at all, which makes me just wonder.... What's the point of him and his backstory? Imo they should've either scrapped the 'Tai shut down and forced his at the most six year old daughter to become a parent' angle or they should've scrapped 'Tai is a good dad who loves his kids and is there for them and they have no problems with him' angle.
As for Raven.....
I really don't like her. XD She abandoned her family way more than Tai ever did, only to then act like Yang owed her anything and was being a brat when they met and Yang unsurprisingly had a problem with her and didn't like her. Raven was high and mighty enough, acting obnoxious and like one of those people that think they know everything about the world and need to educate other people, and that was before we found out she's also aa wild hypocrite. Yeah, she was going on about how Yang couldn't trust Oz, but the whole time she's the one who knew about where Summer had gone to and was sneaking around on secret missions with her, and didn't say jack shit when everybody thought Summer was dead so much that they made her a grave. Also, Raven killed the first Spring Maiden and took her power. I feel like people don't talk enough about that. People will claim Neo can never be redeemed because she killed Little and beat up Ruby, but Raven murdered the Spring Maiden and people want her redeemed? I have these headcanons about Raven and how she used to be better in school and everything, but I really just can't stand how people will glorify her with no mention of how much she actually hurt Yang. Raven is real low on my tier list when it comes to rwby characters, and if they bring her back to become some super mom, I'm gonna be so exasperated.
Anyway, thanks for this ask! :)

Okay, so this episode showed us a flashback of two women who are close friends and share a red-black-white color-scheme having secret meetings in the woods and going off on secret missions together that they aren’t telling anyone else about. And seem to have been doing this for a while at this point.
Tumblr media
Before cutting to the girl who is daughter of at least one of them who ALSO shares that same red-black-white color-scheme.
Gee I WONDER if this could be hinting at anything?

Omg,
What if when Raven comes back (Come on V10!) we get a team-up/mission between just her and Ruby, paralleling the secret mission she went on with Summer that we saw in V9C10
So much potential
Raven being uncomfortable because she sees so much of Summer in Ruby, and also her trying desperately not to speak of what happened with Summer, but also a growing desire in Raven to protect her other daughter the last piece of her friend (lover?)

qrow only told them it's an assignment tai's on, not giving any sort of idea what that may entail. and if that sticks, if this is one of those "play things close to the chest" things he talks about, then chances of yang and ruby getting any answers out of him are low—unless they pester him for answers and he finally relents lol
but if they were to ask raven—assuming she knows / figured it out on her own—, she... might not give a direct answer, but her whole shtick was to ask questions, look at the information they do have and come to a conclusion.
raven would tell them to think, get them on the right track.
and the fact is... ruby and yang have all the information they need to come to the right conclusion if tai is protecting the crown.
oh, everybody else is in vacuo but their dad isn't when they expected him to be? what could be more important? tai's a member of team strq, he knew about the secret war before it went public, he's gone on missions for ozpin before, so what could he be up to? why does salem target the academies? isn't it weird how beacon fell a year ago and she doesn't have the crown yet? ruby knows ozpin made it more challenging to find, what could that entail? etc etc etc.
the answer yang is fishing for is right there. they just need to think.

Prompt idea: Post volume 9, Ruby and Raven talk about what Ruby saw in her visions from Summer's axe and secrets start coming out
“And what makes you think I’m going to talk to you?” Raven asked as she jumped down from the tree, glaring at Ruby. “If you want answers for anything, you’re going to have to make it worth my time.”
“I know you were with mom when she left. When she lied to dad about what her mission was.”
Raven paused for a moment as she saw a look she hadnt seen in years. The same look that Summer had given her the last time they met face to face. Her heart ached with a pain she had tried to push away, the mask she wore finally letting her true emotions slip. “And… how did you find that one out?”
“You wouldnt believe me if I told you, but that’s not important. What’s important is that you know what happened to mom when she left. So please, tell me what happened.”
“And if I dont?”
“Where else do you think you can run to?”
Raven sighed and sat down. “You still sound like your mother.”
“What happened to her?” Ruby asked.
“I… dont actually know what happened to her.” Raven pulled out a dust blade and looked at it to hide her eyes from Ruby. “Like you, we had been following Ozpin blindly and decided it was time to start finding out what he kept from us. And, like you, we used the lamp to ask a single question: what is Ozpin hiding about Salem.”
“And… what did you find out?”
“Nothing we were ready to handle.” Raven sheathed her blade as her eyes started to glow and created a fire in her hand. She slowly touched a dry stick to let it burn and waved her hand through the smoke to let it swirl around her and Ruby. “We found out the truth about Salem being immortal, that Ozpin didnt have a plan to stop her, we were being led into a war with no end… and it took its toll on both of us.”
Ruby nodded and took a breath. “Then… what happened to mom?”
“I’m… not sure. After we learned more about Salem, I thought about asking Jinn another question, however Summer stopped me. She had a fire in her eyes that I had never seen before and put the lamp back. And when I suggested we confront Ozpin, she didnt want to. Instead, she wanted to keep everything secret from him and asked me to come along with her to Salem to find out how much of what we knew was the truth. I… told her no.”
“Great… another dead end.”
Raven sighed and let her eyes dim as she put out the fire and let the smoke figures vanish. “All I know is that she’s still alive and out there somewhere.”
“And you’ve never gone after her?” Ruby sat up and glared at Raven. “You’ve spent years watching over Yang, dad, and Qrow, but you didnt think about doing the same with mom? Why them and not her?”
Raven went quiet, not sure how to answer. Its not like she had wanted to leave Summer alone, but every time she tried to use her portals to get to her, she could never see her. Always just missing her, always being one step behind her, never actually seeing the woman she cared about. Finally, she found the words she was looking for and looked up at Ruby. “If she doesnt want to be found, she’ll find ways to stay hidden. That’s what made her special to Ozpin. Her semblance made her his perfect spy.”

Titus parody
You heard of a sitcom called Titus? Maybe you could do something with either Jaune or one of the parents (preferably Raven or Mr. Arc) as Ken Titus.
---------------------------------------------------
Ruby: Jaune? I just picked up your mail, and it says you're being audited.
Jaune: (Sighs) Again? I wish Mom would stop making me call her this way.
Ruby: Your Mom's an auditor?
Jaune: Yup, and Dad ended things after he got bored. So she does this because she can't get to Dad.
Papa Arc: She can do whatever she wants. She still looks fat in those pants! Besides, it's her fault for getting mad in the first place. We were able to get those first class tickets, right?
Jaune: By sleeping with the stewardess!
Papa Arc: Oh, you're as bad as your mother!
---------------------------------------------------
BANG!
Ruby: (Ducks) What was that?!
Jaune: (Sighs) It's Mom. (Picks up broken window pieces) She does this every month.
Papa Arc: It'd be less if she didn't have that lazy eye!
---------------------------------------------------
Ruby: Jaune, your Dad is horrible.
Jaune: Ruby, I lived with him. You think I don't know that? One night, I came home to him drinking with his buddies...
Flashback (5 Years Ago)
Papa Arc: (Reading) "...I don't know if she'll ever notice me, but just knowing she's in the world makes the world a better world to me." (Guffaws with Papa Winchester, Nikos, and Schnee) Ah, there he is, the author of "My Secret Diary" by Jaune W. Arc. The "W" stands for WUSSY! (Laughs uproariously with the other, Tosses the diary to Jaune) Don't worry, Jaune. If you actually manned up and got laid, you can stop writing this sappy crap!
Present
Jaune: Or the time when I was three...
Flashback (10 Years Ago)
Jaune: (Holding metal fork, Leans into socket)
Mama Arc: Jaune, don't do that!
Papa Arc: No, no. Let's see what he does! (Holds her back) Go ahead, Jaune. (ZAP! Lights flicker) Yeah. You're not gonna do that again, are ya, Zippy?
---------------------------------------------------
Papa Arc: Beat it, Jaune. I gotta watch my shows.
Jaune: Not now, Dad, I'm watching TV.
Papa Arc: ...Firefighters, huh? Kind of ironic, considering your girlfriend burned to death, don't ya think?
Jaune: (Gets up, Runs away sobbing)
Papa Arc: (Sits down, Changes the channel) Come on, Mistral!
---------------------------------------------------
Jaune: Dad, teacher said we can be anything we wanted to be.
Papa Arc: She wasn't talking to you, son. Now go in the backyard and practice digging some holes.
---------------------------------------------------
Ruby: Your dad just shot someone!
Jaune: Was it a bag boy?
Ruby: Y-Yeah, but why does that matter?!
Jaune: Dad's a real stickler for protocol. It's canned goods, then bread.
Ruby: Why are you so calm about this?!
Jaune: (Lifts up his shirt, Shows old bullet scar) He was being nice when he gave me this.
---------------------------------------------------
Saphron: Don't worry, I know exactly what to do! (Pulls out a megaphone)
Terra: (Covers her ears)
Saphron: (Leans next to Jaune, Screams in his ear) Jaune, I got you a megaphone!
Terra: (Takes the megaphone, Speaks into it) YOU'RE AN IDIOT.
---------------------------------------------------
Saphron: Joan would have been a great sister.
Jaune: Saph.
Saphron: She would have taught me piano, and-
Jaune: Saph, stop!
Saphron: Joan would have stopped dating Terra for me!
Jaune: Hey, no way! Terra would have never told Joan to- THERE IS NO JOAN!
