Books for Marawi: Malaysian Generosity Enriches Mindanao
Tumblr media
A Beacon of Hope for Marawi Schoolchildren
In a heartwarming act of solidarity and support, the Malaysian government and the renowned book retailer Big Bad Wolf Books have extended their hands across the sea to Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, donating more than 1,000 books to the city's schoolchildren. This generous initiative aims to foster good relations between Malaysia and the Philippines and significantly boost literacy rates among the youth of Mindanao.
Strengthening Literacy and Relations
A Partnership for Education Malaysian Ambassador Dato Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino emphasized the initiative's role in strengthening bilateral ties. Moreover, he highlighted its focus on educational enrichment in Mindanao. With the symbolic turnover of books to the Mindanao State University's King Faisal Center for Islamic, Arabic, and Asian Studies, hopes are high for the expansion of this project to encompass more schools across Mindanao.   Engaging the Community The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has joined forces in this noble cause, identifying schools and children in Lanao del Sur who are most in need of educational support. DSWD Undersecretary Fatimah Aliah Dimaporo highlighted the plight of many children in the province, particularly orphans housed in boarding schools known as "torils," who rely heavily on private donations for educational materials.
A Milestone Event for Cagayan de Oro
Big Bad Wolf's First Sale in the City This donation coincides with Big Bad Wolf Books' inaugural 18-day sale in Cagayan de Oro City, marking a significant milestone for the company and the local community. Furthermore, founded in Malaysia, Big Bad Wolf aims to ignite a passion for reading among the youth, believing in the transformative power of books to inspire minds and change lives.
A Chapter of Hope
The collaborative efforts of the Malaysian Embassy, Big Bad Wolf Books, and local Philippine agencies underscore a shared commitment to education and literacy. Additionally, through these donations, Marawi's children are given a window to worlds beyond their own, fostering a love for reading that promises to brighten their futures.   Sources: THX News & Philippine News Agency. Ivy & Bean Book 1
Tumblr media
Ivy and bean a good book for kids to have a wonderful reading time. It is really good to develop reading habit in kids to improve their communication. They say that you don’t judge a book by its cover. In this book you will learn that you should not judge a person by your first impressions. Ivy & Bean Book 1 is a book that would be surely a favorite with the younger graders. The story would definitely resonate with their own personal experiences in daily life. Its true, a book definitely gives a message to us and in prior we also had few book reviews for the books namely The Great Mathematician !! ‘The Boy Who Dreamed of Infinity’, The Rainbow Fish – A good read and a wonderful story, Grandfather Gandhi, Where the wild things are?

Episode 2
After 6 years of me trying out to write a short story and being pleasantly fullfilled with it I decided to keep exploring my writing abilities and storytelling techniques. I wrote an episode 2 of my original short story “Breaking Through”. I guess I’m now commited to at least one more episode, hopefully it wont take me another 6 years to write it, :p. https://www.wattpad.com/1261718604-breaking-through-ep2-gay-panic

📚 Have your reading habits changed any this year? If so, what’s different?? Happy Wednesday, Bookworms … Anyone else ready for the weekend to be here already? This week is taking forever to get through. 😅 Have you reading habits changed any this year? If so, how have they changed? My reading habits have definitely changed a bit this year. I’m not reading as much as I usually do … I usually read at least 150 books a year, and this year I’m barely at 100. However, I feel like I’m reading more books that I enjoy, so that’s nice. I’m also reading a lot more romance this year, and I’m really enjoying mysteries and thrillers more as well. Another thing is that I seem to be buying more paperbacks instead of hardcovers. And, surprisingly, I’m reading a lot more ebooks on my phone and Kindle as well. (Life is busy, and I have to get in reading time whenever I can. 😬) It’s so interesting how my reading habits change every year. ❤️ Have your reading habits changed at all this year? 🌲 📚 🌲 📚 🌲 📚 #AlltheBooksDec22 #MyFictionalMusings #CourtofReadingDec22 #ReadingintheWeb 🌲 📚 🌲 📚 🌲 📚 #readinghabits #shelfie #bookshelf #bookaesthetic #bookstack #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #yabooks #booknerd #booklover #bookphotography #books #read #bookrecs #currentlyreading #goodreads https://www.instagram.com/p/CmJZ8LauWAb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Reading—a personal odyssey, whether in the sanctuary of solitude or amidst the symphony of the outside world. 📖✨ Here’s a cozy corner in bed, a private haven for words to unfold in silence; and there, a park bench under open skies, where the pages whisper along with the rustle of leaves. Each setting has its own magic, its own rhythm. So tell me, fellow book travelers, where does your reading heart feel most at home? Is it in the quiet, personal retreats where stories become intimate friends? Or do you thrive on the ambient energy of public spaces, letting the world become a backdrop to epic tales? Share your preferred reading habitat and why!

UK Enchants Malaysian Students with Literary Magic
Tumblr media
A Celebration of British Creativity
The 'GREAT Stories School Tour 2024' has successfully concluded, leaving a lasting impression of the UK's rich literary tradition on Malaysian primary students. This unique initiative, a collaboration between the British High Commission, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), and the Ministry of Education, aimed to ignite a passion for reading and introduce the students to the wonders of British literature and theatre.   Bringing Books to Life At the heart of the tour was the GREAT Stories Mobile Library, a traveling collection of English storybooks that visited five primary schools across Kuala Lumpur. This mobile library opened up a world of adventure, mystery, and history, allowing students to immerse themselves in the depth of English literature firsthand.
Shakespeare for the Young
The Kuala Lumpur Shakespeare Players added a theatrical dimension to the tour with their engaging and interactive sessions. They captivated the young audience with an adapted rendition of Shakespeare's "Macbeth," making the Bard's complex themes accessible and enjoyable for children.   A High Commissioner's Tale The campaign was officially launched by Her Excellency Ailsa Terry, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, with a heartwarming story-reading session at the Perpustakaan Kuala Lumpur. Her visit to Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih (SBJK) in Chow Kit was a highlight, where she shared her favorite British children’s book, leaving a donation of new books to enrich the school's library.
The Power of Storytelling
Her Excellency Ailsa Terry emphasized the enduring legacy of British stories, from "Harry Potter" to "The Lord of the Rings," as vital to the UK's cultural heritage. She expressed enthusiasm for sharing these treasures with Malaysian youth, underscoring the importance of storytelling in fostering empathy, understanding, and cultural exchange.   A Lasting Impact The 'GREAT Stories School Tour 2024' has set a precedent for cultural diplomacy, using literature and theatre as bridges between nations. It not only promoted good reading habits among Malaysian students but also offered them a glimpse into the UK's storied past and vibrant present.
A Future Full of Stories
As the curtains close on this year's tour, the seeds of imagination and curiosity planted in the hearts of young Malaysians promise to grow. The UK's commitment to enriching the lives of children through literature and theatre continues to strengthen international bonds and inspire the next generation of readers and thinkers.   Sources: THX News & British High Commission Kuala Lumpur.
