Actual review of the Heroes & Villains Sabine Wren cropped hoodie below:

Text review beneath cut:
Got this Sabine cropped hoodie Heroes & Villains because I really dig Sabine's adult color scheme in the live action Ahsoka, and really liked the application of the design here! I've bought a few clothing items from Heroes & Villains before, and they've consistently been of high quality, and I wasn't disappointed here.
I really like this hoodie because it's got the perfect in-between fabric weight, where it's thin enough and feels great against skin so I can just wear it as a long sleeve shirt, or I can wear it as outerwear with something underneath. It's a perfect fall hoodie, though I'd want to wear something over it in colder winter.
Another thing I really dig is all the textures. It's got embroidery for the patches, the gold bars on the chest representing Sabine's chest armor lights, and the starbird outline in the back, and printed patterns in the front that are tastefully faded for a slightly weathered effect. There are 4 colors of fabrics that are overstitched with plum thread. Just the variety of textures going on here really tickles my artist brain and makes it really fun to touch and wear!
I do want mention that because this is a "cropped hoodie," it does fall shorter than most hoodies do on the torso, though I wouldn't quite call it true crop top short. This means that for people with some chest like myself, it kinda balloons out, and doesn't create the most slimming silhouette. I'm wearing an L here, because I like baggy hoodies (plus, what's the point if I can't fit a cat inside??), and that may also be contributing. I could probably fit in an M size too. But just a head's up there!
I also wish it had pockets, since I'm very much a want-to-tuck-hands person, but I get why they decided not to include them.
Overall I really love this hoodie, and it's a part of my regular wardrobe now!
(also shown: wearing the Rock Love Sabine kyber crystal necklace + loth cat earring)
Here's a direct link to the hoodie:
This review isn't sponsored, just sharing my honest thoughts.
That being said, here's my non-influencer “refer a friend” code, for $25 off $75 the Heroes & Villains site! (plus, they have a sale going on rn!)

Alfred wiped his feet on the welcome mat in front of your apartment’s door. He transferred a few of the grocery bags from his right hand to his left and fished his keys out of his coat’s pocket, humming gently to himself. The air was humid and chilly; he just wanted to see you but when he walked into your home he did not find the warmth he usually found.
Your apartment was like a warm hug to Alfred. On cool fall days, you’d have a space heater on low in your living room and a candle burning in the kitchen. He would walk in and take a deep deep breath and smile. Your couch was plush and there were countless pillows adorning your bed and no matter where he was sitting he felt encompassed by warmth.  He found comfort in your home, and in your arms.
But today, he did not hear your voice call out for him when his boots hit your crooked rug.
The first thing his eyes found was days-old take-out boxes on your coffee table. He frowned, browline creasing as he suddenly felt this unease in his soul. It wasn’t like you to leave take-out boxes just sitting on your coffee table, especially not for days at a time, and the slight smell of old, possibly rotting, food was only deepening his frown.
He ventured deeper into your kitchen and was met with dishes piled in the sink and grains of sugar still lingering on your countertops. The kitchen towel that was usually hooked over your oven’s handle had fallen to the mat below it and was piled upon itself. He gently placed the grocery bags in his hand on your floor, turning from the sheer mess in your kitchen to find you. He just wants to see you, he just wants to see you, he just wants to see-
You were curled up in your blankets dead-center on your bed. There were pillows discarded on the floor and clothes sprawled out across it. The corners of your room were collecting dust bunnies that looked as if they were huddling for warmth and shivering in the cold atmosphere of your home. Your phone was held loosely in your hand as your chest rose and fell.
Alfred turned on his heel.
Alfred was always told he knew how to lift someone's mood. He’s been called a golden retriever, a ray of sunshine, cheer incarnate. He’s always been able to make people laugh with any old joke he threw out, and he’s always been able to have a good time no matter what obstacles stood before him. Some people thought his joy and optimism were extreme, too much, annoying, obnoxious. Alfred has always been sunny, but even the weather got cloudy for him, sometimes.
(and for you it was storming, and he wanted to be your umbrella)
But he was always told he could make anyone smile, and for you? He would give everything to see you smile.
So he grabbed your sponge and pumped it full of dish soap and got to work.
Tumblr media
Your eyes were reluctant to open.
Rain pounded against your bedroom window, your phone buzzed with the sound of a random YouTube video you weren't watching as you removed your hand from it and turned over in your bed. Your legs were tangled in the sheets—the ones you probably should wash soon—and the air was musty. If it weren't for the obvious shuffling you heard in the rest of your apartment you would stay like that and wallow in self-pity.
Your feet hit the cold hardwood and you made a mental note to find your slippers after you figured out who was in your home (you already had an idea of who it was judging from the light humming). You felt the grime and dust beneath your skin and you frowned. You really needed to sweep.
Your door opened with a creek.
You hated seeing the disgusting state of your home, you were ashamed of it frankly. You needed to clean and yet had none of the motivation to do it so you just sat in your dirt and grit your teeth. The smell in the air was heavy and stuffy and only reflected how you felt inside. You had been getting nothing done, no work, no chores, not even your little hobbies you did for fun were bringing the joy they usually did.
But by far the place you avoided the most was the kitchen. The kitchen was nothing but one big chore. Dishes piled up and stains on your counter and spills down your cabinets were the only things you could see in that disgrace of a room. You didn’t even want to cook, it's not like you even could with the messy state of your stove, either. So the takeout boxes on your coffee table (which were now missing) stood as evidence of your laziness and poor habits and frankly you were sick of yourself can you do anything right-
“Y/n?” An all too familiar voice called out from the kitchen, “Are you awake?”
“Yeah,” You responded, voice groggy and mouth thick.
You rounded the corner to see Alfred drying his hands off with a fresh kitchen towel. Your kitchen was… spotless. Alfred flashed you that bright grin of his, pearly whites lined up perfectly straight, and you let yourself relax a bit as you waddled over to your lover.
You found comfort in Alfred’s smile, in his arms. In that sunny warmth of his that he always carried with him. It felt like the skies were clearing up when he wrapped himself around and nuzzled into your hair, kissing the top of your head and ignoring the fact your hair was a bit greasy and unwashed. Alfred didn't care. That’s why you loved him. Er, that’s not the only reason, but it sure did help that he could hold your hand as you puked your guts out from food poisoning and he would still kiss you after.
“Hi.” You murmured into his chest as his arms tightened around you.
“Hey, baby,” He laid another kiss on your head, “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
“Feelin’ ok? A little stormy?” He ran his nails along your scalp and scratched a metaphorical spot that no one else could even find in your soul as you nodded into his chest. “D’ya wanna take a bath?”
“Mhm.” You spoke weakly, eyes filling with tears at the sheer amount of care in his voice as he rubbed your back.
“Hey, look at me,” Alfred pulled back gently, hand now finding your cheek, “No crying, the hero’s here, remember? I’ll save you.”
You frowned. The hero. Alfred always was your knight in shining armor no matter what the issue was. When you got fired Alfred was the one to buy your groceries and pay your bills and help you with your resume. When you got food poisoning from a seafood restaurant he took you on a date to he was the one to buy you medicine and rub your bad when your stomach was killing you from the inside out. And now he’s the one who’s squeezing shampoo into his palms and rubbing it on your scalp while you choke on your own sobs.
He raked his hands through your hair and rubbed circles into your head and down your neck to try and soothe you as you fell apart in his hands and let everything out. It was the kind of breakdown that was snotty and ugly but Alfred still saw nothing but perfection in every part of your face. From the tear droplets caught in your eyelashes to the curve of your nose to the shape of your chin, he saw nothing but the love of his life.
He took the showerhead down and returned to his knees by the tub, water soaking through his jeans and socks as he kneeled next to you to wash your hair. He had you sit up a bit and put his hand on your forehead to shield your eyes from the water as he rinsed the shampoo from your hair and whispered nothing but love. Hiccups bubbled from your ribcage as you came down from the peak of your crying and let your nails scratch your legs, peeling dead skin away in red stripes.
“Feel better?” Alfred slathered some conditioner on your hair.
“Mhm.”
“Why didn’t you call me?” He raked his hands through your hair gently, “I would’ve come over sooner.”
“I wanted to, I just forgot.” You frowned, “Sorry.”
“It’s okay, I love you.” Alfred took the shower head and started rinsing out your hair again.
“I love you too, Alfie.”
He grinned at the nickname, heart fluttering against his ribs.
He stood from his place by the tub and stretched out a hand to help you out of the bath, handing you a fresh towel. He took one of your hand towels and draped it over your head, smiling brightly at you as you wrapped the towel around yourself and pulled you into his arms. Your skin was still damp and the air was hot and foggy as he wet his t-shirt with the water dripping from your hair.
The door opened and in flooded crisp, cool air as the steam fluttered out of the bathroom and the smell of a burning candle invaded your senses.
You rummaged through your dresser and found a t-shirt and pajama pants, pulling them on before making your way into the living room to see Alfred fiddling with your T.V. remote.
“What’d’ya wanna watch?”
“Something funny,” You responded, plopping yourself down onto your couch and laying back on it.
“Sounds good to me,” Alfred murmured as he crawled into your arms, sprawling himself over you as gently as possible so he wouldn't smother you.
“Do you wanna order takeout?” You ran your hands through his hair as your attention was grabbed by the T.V.
“Sure.” He nuzzled into your neck and finally relaxed in your arms, “I love you.”
“I love you more.”

I came up with an idea for this rewrite after deciding I felt confident enough to rewrite the clan structure and naming conventions so, This post is gonna serve as me asking if this is a good idea
I’ve been interested in poetry recently and I had the idea that
Perhaps names could be poems? And it wasn’t initially a very serious line of thought, but as I thought about it I organized it into a very rudimentary system — Verse and Title. All characters have a Verse in which their Title is derived from — a verse is poetic and/or musical in nature often and stands to represent aspects of a character that within my revised version of the “clans” (I renamed them — we’ll get to that later) it’s believed that simple names can’t really capture an energy or essence of a cat like a verse. A title is often in relation to an aspect of the verse that is important to the general theme, aka basically how titles usually work for anything.
And that lead to me thinking up some poems associated with characters from the books to see if this could work — the first of which was Bluestar, renamed Dream of Frigid Fire after I wrote this;
“Brilliant Blue, your eyes do chill me
Azure is toned the fire that makes the stars shine
With licks like embers that fall from your pelt
You were weaved to weather the storm
And you will blaze through this forest like a dream
Frigid and fiery, all the same
A beautiful, bright blue flame.”
And that’s when it evolved into something a bit more solidified, where I was innately able to kind of reconstruct the clans with this thematic element in mind.
So, the Clans became the Caterwauls, and the culture of the Caterwauls is surrounded upon oral tradition through “song” (probably wouldn’t be too comparable to human song, very focused on vocals which would be on the level of wolf howling or other mammalian cries though more melodic? Like whale songs can be kind of musical?) and poetry of types. Clan hierarchy is still in the process of being revisioned but rn the leaders have been renamed Guardians and the medicine cats are the thing I’m most focused on finding a new name for.
I think there’s something here, but I’m gonna be honest I’ve been creatively dry for months so I might not have anything and just be clinging to an idea that might not work. If anyone wants to, tell me in the notes if I’m making any sense or I should just abandon this idea.

Hey Dani. I hope you're feeling better today. I had a few questions if you're up for it.
How is the Alliance funded? Like I know cassie hasn't mentioned that but what do you think? Like in lbaf the Alliance is expanding so much so who pays them? And are they even paid? And do they have any rules and regulations and do they have to answer to the Clave?
How do the downworlders feel about David or Lance being the Prince of Darkness and Kincaid being the Crimson King? And how do they feel about the way Idris is rn with the dshadow demons and Idris Patrol etc?
Will we get to see/know what exactly happened to Joseph and what happened when Lance was born?
I've been very curious about what Max would do for a living to support his family but I never imagined him providing warlock services to mundanes. For some reason I was imagining him working for the FBI or something. What kind of work does he actually do and does he actually like it?
I'm sure having a child who has a disability requires a lot more care than it usually would. How would Mavid provide all that special care to Lance when they can't afford it. In IALS they could do that bc David became rich. Is he going to write in lbaf too?
Did Magnus cry when he met Lance for the first time too?
I know you might not be able to answer some or most of these because of spoilers and that's okay. I was just very curious. Thankyou!
Love, Yana
Hi, Yana! I'm doing a lil better. But the weather here is very awful and it's not helping with my mental health hehe.
Thank you for the questions. I love questions like these! Now, let's see.
It's definitely funded by the Clave. All sub-institutions - including the Institutes and the Idris Patrol - are funded by the Clave. Shadowhunters are paid based on their job - like heads of institutes, patrollers, Clave leaders, medics, etc. So, the person running the Alliance (the shadowhunter - since it's their full-time job to run it) is paid too. This is why Anjali wanted to do a pilot of the regional Alliances (to see if it works and is worth the money/effort) before they expand it. It's the Treasury's job to take care of all these expenses. The current Clave is doing well financially (yay) because of Devlin Corp (yay?). The Alliance, since it is run by the Clave, does answer to the Clave. There are a set number of meetings they need to have every month and targets they need to achieve (collectively decided by Alliance representatives) and they closely work with the Consul to do all of this. Happy to talk more about the Alliance since I looooove it.
First things first, not everyone knows about the Crimson King. Only tmi/lbaf gang, seelie world, crimson watch and a bunch of others (like Jackson/Achilles) know about it. It's still a big secret to most of the shadow world. Especially at this point in time. They all simply think Lance is going to grow up and destroy Idris. They don't know there is a way (a person) who can stop him. As for the down world, they are divided about Lance/PoD (which doesn't help the situ with the Alliance). Seelies support him. Werewolves do not. Warlocks have walked out (meaning if Lance attacked Idris, they won't support defending it) and vampires are enjoying the drama. Some of them understand the need for the Idris Patrol (not warlocks!) and others like the shadow demons (like vampires because it means they can move during the day)
Absolutely
Max doesn't have a lot of options in terms of his job because he walked out of the Clave. His only option is to work with mundanes. He can do a mundane job but he doesn't have any interest in it or have any qualifications either. We will look into Max's jobmore in his short story.
David is not in a place to write in LBAF. I don't think it has even occurred to him that he can write (mundane stories) in the shadow world. But you are absolutely right in that raising Lance (and Arthur) is going to be expensive and is gonna cause some problems. If you notice, what David did in IALS was kinda messed up (i still love u bb), we will see something similar (not from David) in LBAF too. It's all about the hustle, honey.
No. He was scared.
Loveeeeeee you.

Dempster and myself. Colonel’s Nelson and Haupt attended most of the time and sat in the back row. I was in awe of just being in the world famous Skunk Works. So many wonderful aircraft had come out of these doors and here I was and I was scared that I would goof this up somehow. Little did I know that twenty years later I would represent this organization in the Nation’s Capital!
The SR-71 course (SW called it the R-12) was taught by a former Navy enlisted man. He did not know very much about our airplane. I believe he was on a loan from the Lockheed California Company to teach this course because the SW didn’t have anyone to teach and the management didn’t have the time. He told us, if we had any questions that he could not answer, someone from the SW would come in on the break and answer them. Little did we know that the “someone” could be the world famous founder of the SW, “Kelly” Johnson or the next head of the SW, Ben Rich! Picture of Ben Rich in the middle my father, Butch Sheffield has on the black suit second from the right. This is when he was a Director for the Skunk Works.
Early on in the course, Kelly came in to answer a question. He went straight to the blackboard and covered it with mathematical formulas to explain why the question we asked worked on the SR. When he finished, he turned to us and asked, “Did you get it?” We all froze, and no one could speak or even think to question the aeronautical genius. He said nothing, did not greet us or shake our hands, just walked out. We soon learned that it was Kelly’s way to be direct, to be quick and to the point without any frills or nice talk.
Ben Rich was totally different. He would come in, put us at ease, shake our hand, pat us on the back, and tell us jokes, then answer the question. One question we asked him was; why are the engines located where they are on the SR-71? He said the engine designers wanted the engines on the wing tips so they could get undisturbed air direct into the engine, the airframe designers wanted the engines located along the center of the aircraft for structural reasons. With a straight face he said; if you notice, the engines are located exactly halfway between the wing tip and the fuselage. We didn’t know if it was a joke or not.
Most every day we would be given a tour of the SW and the production line of the SR-71 Program. I saw the aircraft I would be making my first flight in, 955, being put together. I had seen aircraft lines before, such as the B-58 & B-47. They were mostly assembly lines, putting the parts together, but the SR line was different, and they were building the aircraft from the ground up, making the key parts right there, in the SW. The forging of titanium alloys was the most impressive thing I saw.
After a few days at the SW, I began to reflect thinking upon what was going on in my life. Just two months earlier, I had been on alert in a “mole hole” at Little Rock as a B-58 Radar Navigator (RN), and now I was in Los Angles in the world-famous SW with the great weather and no alert in my plans. What a change in my life.

well i personally suck dick at writing and i haven't read any full fanfictions in ages...i really can't remember but if i find any
Are you a spider girlie, a snake girlie, a beetle girlie, or a bee girlie?
If i had to choose one of these i would say bee girlie because spiders are scary and snakes are scary and beetles aren't my style but bees r so fluffy and like flowers...jus like me... :D
What quote/lyrics/words from anything ever resonate with you the most?
They say the sun don’t shine forever But through any weather we’ll make it As long as we make it together - song lyric

What would someone have to offer you to get you to punch atsushi in the face?
There is literally nothing you could give me to get me to punch my husband in the face
On the contrary, what would someone have to offer you NOT to punch fukuchi in the face?

Of the authors represented in bsd, which one is your favorite? (keyword authors not characters, it’s very clear who your favorite character is lmao)
well i'm gonna be real with you, i actually am uncultured and haven't read many of the authors' works. i've read only a few, so i'd have to say of those that i've read, i liked doppo kunikida, mykola hohol and akiko yosano. i've yet to read dazai but i really really want to :(
as for individual works, i've read and enjoyed anne of green gables and the raven. i got through about a third of the great gatsby before abandoning it because i found it boring. i am still reading crime and punishment and i like it a lot.
also you don't know who my favourite character is silly goober because i have TWO in my head rn and you couldn't guess either of them i dare you to try
Orange juice or apple juice?
orange juice 🍊
What song is stuck in your head atm, and how much do you actually like it?
punky funky love by granrodeo. i love this song sm it's so catchy and fun and it just lifts my mood so much. if you asked me to name a bad granrodeo song i would glitch out because there literally isn't one
If paint was edible, which color would you eat?
hmm probably brown because it reminds me of chocolate or beige because it'd be like caramel
funfact; whenever i eat m&ms i have this ritual where i save all the brown ones for the end, i eat all the other ones except for one of each colour, then i eat all those in one go. and then i begin eating the brown ones one at a time until there are nine left (lucky number) and then i eat all those at once. its cus the brown is more chocolatey in my head literally just because it is brown
If you could learn everything about any one thing in the universe instantly, what would you choose?
cmon i cannot possibly decide this. hmm uhh fuck um. i might like to know the entire contents of the library of alexandria, the truth behind every cold case in the history of true crime, my entire family history, the truth behind ghosts and spirits and the paranormal, and those are just some of the things i'd consider.
What’s your favorite suit in a deck of cards?
probably diamonds. i really dont know why but they fuck. i also like spades cus spades look and sound super cool
What’s your least favorite thing about your favorite thing?
i seem to give it to the world a lot more than it gives it to me

Hi!
You have really great taste in music and I can really see the preference for vocalists. Fairy cowboy is a really interesting combination but it reminds me of TXT Yeonjun in Blue Hour, if you dye your hair pink might be fun to try if you haven't already!
My Everglow bias is Aisha, her voice is super charming and her presence is so intense that I can't help but watch her during their stages! Wonwoo and Mingyu tie for Seventeen, for similar reasons to Aisha actually. They're all super talented 💖
Do you want to talk about your ocs? That sounds cool and I'd love to hear about it if you were up for it 🙂
I'm listening to upbeat music today because the weather here has me down and I really miss summer, and if you haven't heard it I suggest checking out NCT 127's Dreamer, I think you might like it based on what groups and songs you've mentioned!
🔍
Hello!!~🤗 n yeah my original bias was Aisha!! Twinning again! She’s incredible she just draws you in she’s just so enchanting idk what it is but oooff!! Love her!!💘 But yeah Onda definitely stole my heart she is so cute n she’s super good at dancing too!!💞🥰
And literally yeah!!! Yeonjun blue hour was genuinely It for me. I haven’t gone full pink yet, but I’ve gone lilac, I’ve gone every shade of purple. I’ve done red too but I think it didn’t suit me as much so I really wanna try pink n see how I feel! I also love peach colored hair. Remember peach!jeongin all that time ago it was so cute!!!🥰 do you dye your hair too?
Oh man oh man!! I’d love to🥺 my art blog is @brewgiesart if you wanna see more but here’s my main oc’s about, I’m working on making her partner n then the rest of the ocs! But yeah each character gonna be from a different realm n basically “represent” every realm in my new design so it’s gonna take a while to get it all fleshed out since I want very diverse n rich cultures for each realm! Obviously the human realm is gonna be the same except creative liberty ofc.
I’m listening to dreamer rn I’m giving her a chance!! I’m really bad at not checking out the album or ep etc if I don’t like the main title but I do love lemonade from that album I’ve heard it a few times. (Update: ITS SO GOOD we are officially besties for real!<3)
You know just what to say I swear!! N that song is like perfect for me I’m kinda shocked rn….😳🤠

Notes: It’s back. Writing Hidan has got me feeling a certain way rn
Tumblr media
It rained on your wedding day: weather fitting for, and not minded by, a criminal and a deserter. As you approached the temple, he tried to tell you many times that you were going to be turned away, but as you spoke to the shrine masters, you were greeted warmly and welcomed. You were young with a warm face that offset Kakuzu’s intimidating exterior. Everyone always loved you right away, a way about you that Kakuzu could never begin to consider replicating. With your open heart, you brought a foreign concept into his world: acceptance. The few priests and priestesses at the temple on the border of the Land of Stone looked upon you kindly, a kindness that you and Kakuzu continued to repay years later. The small village of a few hundred that housed that shrine would never see a shinobi attack. Now, only you continue to repay years later.
You could tell that Kakuzu didn’t like being in the temple in the slightest. He had never been one for religion or structure or ceremonies, so you tried not to laugh the first time you saw him in his montsuki haori hakama. You wondered how much grumbling went into getting Kakuzu in such formal attire with a goofy, lopsided grin. Even as he gazed upon your amused, upturned lips, his infamous temper laid unusually dormant. Kakuzu never thought that he would see his own wedding day. Being the kind of man he was, he never thought that he’d have one. He didn’t think that he deserved it, but for once as you stood in front of him in your shiromuku, all of his jaded thoughts seemed to fade. Of course with you, all doors opened.
Kakuzu knelt next to you at the shrine, ever stoic. He put his hair up before the ceremony and secured it neatly behind his head. You remembered it when it was short. As the priest announced your marriage to the gods, you couldn’t help but glance at Kakuzu out of the corner of your eye. He held himself together better than you imagined he would.
“Well, yes. I am an adult,” he would tell you later.
But at that moment, he received the first sakazuki. The priest's vessel tipped over the small cup two times before pouring. Kakuzu brought the dish up to his lips and took three sips: pointless seeing that neither of you had parents, but traditional nonetheless. You were taught to always honor your ancestors, but you doubted that Kakuzu felt the same. You received your cup and the same sake, taking the same three sips and the ceremony went on. The second sakazuki represented your vow to care for each other. You received a slightly larger cup and once again, you each touched the sake to your lips three times. The third represented fortune and fertility.
The Heavens, the Earth, and the People.
You offered Kakuzu a light smile as you moved to the next part of the ceremony, a gesture to assure him that it was almost over. He would have rolled his eyes in any other setting, but Kakuzu didn’t even have to speak for you to know exactly what he meant. You knew that more than anything, he was happy to be with you. Out of all the things that he had done as a shinobi, he could handle a stuffy ceremony.
“I thought you liked stuffy things,” you teased him later, parts of your robes slung over forearms and shoulders for better mobility as you walked through the gardens. Your hand rested in his as you balanced yourself on some raised, rock ledges. His expression could have easily been mistaken for exasperation as he scoffed, but you knew better. He looked happy. “You’re a shinobi. Now that’s stuffy!”
The priest had you stand and you received a flowering branch to offer to the gods. As you held the sprig in your hand, you glanced at Kakuzu. His eyes met your own and you quietly prayed over your offerings before presenting them together, stem first. You bowed together, the rituals vaguely familiar to you as you performed them.
With the blessings of the gods, you had received your rings. Your thumb ran over the skin of Kakuzu’s hand. They had a familiar gruffness to them and held smooth bumps from old scars. His fingernails were short. You slid the band onto his ring finger. The black suited him. He squeezed the fingers of your other hand. The space behind your eyes stung as you held back tears watching as he placed the ring on your hand.
Neither of you had family, so you thanked the shrine priests and priestesses and enjoyed their hospitality. You took a single picture. It was the same frame that you held in your hands now.
Kakuzu walked out a few hours ago, taking Hidan with him. Your kitchen was, for the most part, wrecked. Your doing. Your tears had since dried up and your trembling was beginning to fade. With a shaky breath, you brought yourself to your feet. You placed the picture face-down on the counter and reached for the broom in the corner. Your heart hurt, but the world continued on. And if the world continued on, so should you.
***
You didn’t want to eat, you didn’t feel hungry, but you stood over the sink anyway biting into whatever you could pull from your fridge. You cleaned up the kitchen to the best of your ability. Trash piled up in neat bins outside: splintered wood, broken plates, and any other particles of dust that you managed to sweep up. You could handle it later. At least the rest of the kitchen was spotless. You glanced down at the thick wedding band that sat in your hand. Twirling it between your fingers, you bit into your bell pepper like an apple. That was the kind of night you were having.
A harsh pounding came from the front door and for a split second you wondered if your husband came back. Ex-husband. You didn’t think so. You kept your eyes on the kitchen window but the pounding continued adamantly. A slight shiver went down the back of your neck. The next farm wasn’t for miles. That was definitely not Kakuzu.
You put down your pepper and rolled out your utensil drawer. Your fingers danced across the kunai strapped to the bottom as you silently hoped that your training hadn’t worn off too horribly. The banging ceased as the doorknob began to rattle. The door swung open and you launched your kunai with immense velocity and precision. It was snatched out of the air.
“Fuck! That hurts like a bitch!”
Hidan stood in the entryway with his hand still held up and wrapped around your weapon. Blood dripped onto your floors as the kunai clattered to the ground. He shook out his palm, now sporting a deep gash. All you could do was stand and blink, wondering why he was there and if Kakuzu was with him. Hidan threw his cloak onto the rack. It slid, hardly staying on as he marched over to you. The door didn’t fit into its frame the same as it did before and there was no sign of Kakuzu.
“Can you patch me up, lady?” He looked around your kitchen for somewhere to sit, but found none. He dripped more onto your floors. You quickly guided his wrist over your sink and looked up at him. Beads of water fell down his face. You didn’t even hear the rain outside.
“What happened?” you asked sternly, your voice cracking a bit with worry. Hidan groaned.
“You fucked up my hand, can you at least fix me? I’m traumatized over here.” You sighed, yanking him forward before turning the running water on over his hand. You held it there for a second as if telling him to keep it there before running off to get your medical kit.
“Hidan, you have to tell me if there is an emergency,” you said as you heaved the box onto the counter from your spare room. You cleaned his palm with soap and disinfectant before applying pressure. While you didn’t have to worry about blood loss with Hidan, you also didn’t want him passing out on your kitchen floor either. That would make one more thing to clean up. “Hidan—” You pulled the gauze extra tight. He didn’t seem to be listening to you. —“Is there an emergency?”
“No, lady, it was just cold as fuck and Kakuzu’s got a stick up his ass that’s worse than usual. But you already know what that’s like.” The atmosphere stood still at the mention of Kakuzu’s name.
You knew that you shouldn’t worry about him. As far as you were concerned, he had just divorced you a few hours ago, and even if he hadn’t, you were certain that he could take care of himself. You apparently didn’t do a great job at masking your worry.
He usually didn’t care about the effect of his words, but as you frowned to yourself, Hidan couldn’t help but consider how sad you looked. He pursed his lips, never one for comforting others. For a split second, he wondered whether or not he should have brought up his partner at all. Two fingers gently bumped the bottom of your chin and you looked up at Hidan.
“Don’t look so down. It doesn’t look good on you.” He hesitated. “He’ll come back.”
You dropped his wrapped hand, not noticing that you’ve been drawing loops around his knuckles with your finger.
“I don’t know. He’s usually pretty certain about things and I can’t dwell on that.” You shook your head, turning the water back on to wash your own hands. “You have to go. I know that you have things to do and my— and Kakuzu won’t like that you’re here.” He pouted as you moved around him. You had blood to clean up.
“But it’s raining…” he pouted, expression falling in your peripheral. “And he’s miserable right now which means I’m miserable. C’mon let me stay, I’m miserable.”
“Hidan.” You turned to him and leaned on the doorway from your kitchen to your small living area. “Your partner doesn’t live here anymore.” You flicked on the entryway light, your bucket in hand. Hidan followed behind you, now taking your spot in the doorframe.
“But that doesn’t mean that I have to leave. You know he’s being stupid, but that doesn’t mean that I need to suffer out in the rain because Kakuzu’s a crotchety, old bastard.” You sighed, resting on the handle of your mop. You shook your head.
“I’m sure by the time you get to town the two of you can find somewhere to stay.”
A silence overtook the house again, full of raging, but unspoken thoughts. You squeezed out the yarns and tended to the floors. It, at the very least, gave you something to do. Hidan’s blood already dried part way and you scrubbed harder, but not before it was snatched out of your grip. Hidan shoved you over to take your place. The backs of your knees hit the armrest of the modest couch that you almost toppled down onto. He took to scrubbing.
“So what happened?” he asked.
“Sorry?” Hidan peered at you with his bright violet irises.
“I’m trying to be nice and ask you about your problems, so you better start chatting before I lose interest.” The mop splashed back into the bucket. “Who else do you get to talk to?” You pursed your lips. You knew that he was biding his time to wait out the rain, but his words weren’t wrong. The hurt still felt fresh and perhaps you were feeling a bit desperate to get it out of your system.
“I’m not sure what happened. I asked, but, well, you know how my… how Kakuzu is.” And you found yourself retelling the entirety of what happened: the argument, the ring, Kakuzu’s misplaced comments about children. You left out the part about the wrecked kitchen. “And then he said something about ‘now letting this happen’ which had to be the last straw for me.”
“Did you want brats?” Hidan had since stopped his cleaning. Surprisingly, he listened intently to your rambling as he propped himself against the wall. You swung your feet back and forth over the side of the couch.
“I never really thought about it before and Kakuzu and I never talked about it, so I don’t know why he brought it up.”
“Because he’s a dumbass who thinks too much. I never know what’s going on in that fucked up head of his. If I had a home to come to like this with a cute little thing in an apron—” Hidan scoffed. —“Fuck the Akatsuki. I wouldn’t be hiding you out here because of some band of losers in capes.” That made you laugh.
“You’re in the Akatsuki,” you giggled and Hidan raised a slender eyebrow.
“So? I’m the best one out of all those guys.”
“The best out of some band of losers?” The corners of Hidan’s lips turned upwards into a brief smile as he rolled his pretty irises.
“Listen, I got my devilish charms going for me which is better than Ragdoll. He looks like a fucking pin cushion.” Your hand came over your mouth as you laughed. Hidan looked down at where you sat, pride swelling in his chest at the prospect of cheering you up. But your face quickly morphed into something sentimental.
“Aw, but he’s a cute pin cushion…” Your bottom lip curled into a pout, but at least you didn’t look quite as sad as before. Hidan leaned a bit forward.
“He’s a little over a hundred-eight centimeters tall and has a big-ass nose.” You let out an amused breath. “I’d hardly consider that ‘cute’.”
“But it’s a cute nose. It’s slender and has that cute little bump in the middle.” Your voice grew quieter. Another silence, the third of Hidan’s visit.
It all felt too confusing for you. Maybe Kakuzu was never that interested in you in the first place. You shook your head then and there, much to Hidan’s confusion. Despite Kakuzu’s attitude towards most everything, you knew that he cared deeply about you. Perhaps he had grown bored. Despite ninja work not being of interest to you, you knew that many found the profession very exciting. You ran many profitable operations in the surrounding area, but more money could be made elsewhere, you knew that much. Your lifespan was nothing compared to Kakuzu’s nearly a century of living. He had done everything in life that he had wanted to do and all you had little to show for your existence.
You kept replaying his words about the time that you had. That you had enough time to do more. But if you really thought about it, you were content living the way you had been. You were happy and for a split second you considered whether or not Kakuzu actually saw himself as worthy of you. You shook your head for the second time. No, if anything, you considered it the other way around. You’d imagine that you would come off as boring and childlike to an immortal.
“That’s a lot of thinking.” Hidan had taken to wandering around the room. You hadn’t noticed. “Fuck thinking. You deserve better than taking care of some place in the middle of nowhere and running numbers on boring-ass shit.” You smiled again to yourself, something else that you didn’t notice.
“I actually like it here,” you mumbled. Hidan yawned.
“Can I stay now?” You deliberated to yourself before grabbing the bucket and the mop away from him. He didn’t do a great job, but you found yourself relatively uncaring at the moment.
“Yes, you can stay,” you sighed. Hidan was already halfway down the hall by the time you finished your sentence.
“Good because I was going to crash here anyway.”

rules: tag a few people you want to know better; make a new post, don’t reblog!
thank you for tagging me @lowkeyanakin
currently reading: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo I can hear you all say I am way late to the hype train but hear me out. :D I’ve known about this book for years, I think it’s really become a part of pop culture in a way and everyone is aware of who Marie Kondo is. But I had never read it. So since I am planning to move this fall and I had a severe depressive episode and couldn’t leave my apartment for a month I decided it was time to find some motivation and reduce the clutter in my life. I watched many youtube videos for inspiration and people often talked about the Konmari method so it got me curious again and I decided to see from the first hand source if her advice could be useful to me. I think we all have heard about the “keep the item if it sparks joy!” portion of her method but its actually surprisingly deep and spiritual attitude she represents where you need to review your life and your goals and understand why you are holding on to so many things.
last song:
youtube
last movie: The Lobster
last series: Our Flag Means Death – I saw it all over tumblr and it really was funny and good. Legends of Tomorrow – just finished season 7 (and as a result had an awesome action packed dream about Sara Lance. :D). Tribes of Europa – watching rn, it has some good stuff but also some cliches. Costumes and sets are great tho – I want to have a post apocalyptic larp so bad right now.
sweet, spicy, or savory: Spicy! I am the monster always going for extra jalapenos and tabasco sauce. I come from a family were salt and some black pepper were the only spices used so I have no idea where my love for kick comes from.
coffee or tea: Coffee! It gives me life. Whenever there’s a multi day event I am bringing my own pack of coffee to be sure I am set.
three ships: Obikin is my main one for sure. I also like Quinobi and Thorki.
first ever ship: Winchest
currently working on: I am pruning apple trees but since weather is shit it’s on hold until tomorrow. So rn I am plucking away at my writing and trying to catch up to reading all the great fic out there.
favorite piece of clothing: Black military cap and Ahsoka t-shirt

comfort food: Shawarma
favorite time of year: Autumn. Everything is dying, colourful leaves, sweaters and crisp mornings.
fav fanfiction: But Then, My Homework Was Never Quite Like This by nyxocity
Omg, this story! It goes deep into the BDSM relationships and philosophy and I frickin love it! Reading that one really changed me and gave me a new perspective on how good and transformative fanfic really can be. It is glorious:
He struggles, pride fierce, like a dragon inside him, mind a flimsy thing against its power.
You're in control. You've got the choice to walk out of here, so get up and walk out. You have the power; show him.
He could… he can see it. See himself getting up, saying goodbye. For just a second, it seems possible, something maybe even, that he needs to do; life stretching out into a future without Jensen… and he'd… he'd… what? Would his life end? Would he die? No. He'd be okay. He'd live. Maybe not happily for a long time, maybe not ever. But his life would go on.
The realization hits him like an explosion, sudden and perfect. He could. He really could. That choice exists. And maybe he even should make it, but he also has the choice to stay here. If he wants to. He has a choice. And this is… this is so huge, something beyond pride and the petty need to assert himself.
But, you also have the ability to decide, on your own terms, to indulge in a want. The difference is in understanding that you have a choice, being aware of what you're doing, rather than simply giving in to an urge blindly.
Yeah. But how can you tell? Because… sometimes it starts as a blind urge, then you think about it, and decide to do it anyway. How do you know you're just not tricking yourself?
The answer strikes him suddenly, and it feels like a blow to the head, brain pitching inside his skull.
Because you know you don't have to do it. Because you also have the choice not to do it."
He looks at Jensen, eyes wide.
Then, who is in control here?
"I am," he says. "I'm in control. But I'm…" he searches for the right word, intensely aware of Jensen's eyes on him. "I'm… allowing you to have control."
Jensen's brows rise over the rim of his glasses. "But how do you know that's true? That you're not tricking yourself into thinking that because you want it?" Jensen throws his own question back at him.
"Because I also have the choice not to," Jared says, meets that gaze head-on. "When I came to your house, I didn't even see that I had a choice not to go. But I did, and I do." He's light-headed with the understanding. "It's… it's the weirdest thing," he says, suddenly struck by the impulse to laugh, and he does. "It's like… it's like being free."

Headcanon again! I am here again to cry about how much I want Crosshair backs because I am a sucker for family dynamic.
I was going make an animatic about this but I really love to share the concept of how this song fits.
Two birds on a wire One tries to fly away And the other watches him close from that wire He says he wants to as well But he is a liar
Think of how first two birds phase of the lyric represented The Batch and Crosshair during the start of the show. Everyone can still think about the concept of right or wrong are refers to the bird that flew away and Crosshair whom is now following orders stay on the wire.
'll believe it all There's nothing I won't understand
I'll believe it all I won't let go of your hand
Back when being locked up. Omega assuring Crosshair about it's not his fault that he is this way right now.
Two birds on a wire One says c'mon and the other says "I'm tired" The sky is overcast and I'm sorry
"The sky is overcast" implied Kamino's weather and as you can see during escaping. "One says c'mon" is Hunter tried to convince Crosshair to go with them and " the other says "I'm tired" " is Crosshair saying that he's too tired to fight his inhibitor chip and can no longer keep it together so he is sorry about what's going to happen.
One more or one less Nobody's worried
As you can easily guess that this is Omega and Crosshair. I really want a better example for this but man this really sums up what happeining in the show.
This is only the part I can think of rn. you can add more if you want! I'm open for suggestion too.

P5R: Rebel Girl (A FeMC Story/P5R Rework) Chapter 51: A Nudge in The Right Direction
After breakfast, Ren decided to head over to the medical office of Dr. Takemi. Once she arrived, she said “Hey doc.”
Takemi looked up. “Oh ho, it’s been a while. I was beginning to think you were afraid of me.
“Nah, I know you don’t bite,” Ren said. “I’ve just been kind of busy.”
“Well, you seem productive,” Takemi said. “But actually your break was productive for me as well. I had some time, so I began processing the results of our tests.”
“Really?” Ren said. “And how’s that going?”
“Hm,” Takemi laughed. “It’s going exceptionally well. I think with a few more tests, this thing could be fully functional.”
“Splendid,” Ren said.
“Excuse me?” a man said, walking up. With him was his wife and their child, a young girl who looked under the weather to say the least. “Is this a medical facility?”
“Um, yes…” Takemi said, surprised by this development.
“We need some help,” the man continued.
“Our daughter is sick, and the treatment we’ve been given isn’t working” the mother informed her.
“I see…” Takemi said.
“Can you help?” the father asked.
Takemi was silent. Ren could tell she wasn’t entirely sure of herself, so she did what any friend would do; hype them up. “Of course. Dr. Takemi doesn’t have this medical facility for nothing. She’s an expert.”
The parents and Takemi looked at Ren. The parents looked at Takemi. “You’re in charge here.”
Takemi looked back at them. “Yes,” she said. She caught up to the situation and gained her confidence back. “Let’s see what we’re dealing with. Come in.” Everyone started to move except Ren. Takemi noticed this. “You too.”
“Her?” the dad said, surprised.
“She’s my assistant,” Takemi informed him.
“Well, OK then,” the father said. Ren shrugged and walked in.
Takemi was doing a check up on the symptoms her parents described. “Hmmmm.”
“We’ve been trying the medicine for over a month, but it doesn’t seem to work.” the mother said. “When we tried explaining as such to our normal doctor, he just brushed us off.”
Takemi finished her check up. “I see. Well, either this guy is either pretty stupid, or has an ego the size of Tokyo.” She went to her desk to write out a prescription. “Does she have any allergies I should know about?” Her parents shook her head. Takemi finished filling it out. “Well then, here. Her symptoms lineup with a few different diseases, but there are subtle differences, and I feel like they just got it wrong. If this medicine doesn’t see an improvement in  her condition in a week, come see me again.”
The father took it, looked up to her, and said “Thank you. How much do we owe you?”
“10,000 yen,” Takemi said.
“What?” the father said.
Ren tried to cool things down. “That’s a joke. She does that from time to time.”
“I mean, it’s fine, we’ll pay it…” the mother said.
Takemi looked at all of them. “Tell me, the facility you went to before, was the head doctor there a man by the name of Oyamada?”
“Um, yes” the father said.
Takemi smiled. “Then consider today on the house.” Everyone was shocked. “That one was not a joke.”
The girls’ parents were still stunned, but they nodded, and the father said “Thank you.” They left to go get the medicine. Takemi sighed a sigh of relief.
“So, how does it feel?” Ren asked, smiling all the while. “Being a doctor in situations like this?”
Takemi smied. “While I didn’t like getting jumped into it,” she gave Ren some side-eye, “I will say, it is a rather nice feeling. While I get patients here, nothing like that really happens all too much.”
She glanced off. “To be honest, I thought I’d lost my touch. I was worried about what would happen if I did something wrong. I guess I still am, but the difference is I took action once you pushed me. Besides, I’m certain I figured the problem out. Not to mention I got to stick it to Oyamada. That’s always good.” Ren seemed a bit confused, but didn't worry too much. “So, despite the manner in which you did so, thanks for supporting me. I mean, I did call you in there for a reason.”
Ren was a little worried she’d get more of a reprimand than that. She smiled and said “Thanks.”
“By the way, we still have your test to do,” Takemi said. “Are you ready?” Ren felt a little sheepish, but nodded, and they ran the test as usual. Once Ren woke up, Takemi noted “Faster than usual. That either means the medicine is improving, or you’ve changed dramatically recently.”
“Well, I've been in Tokyo for a full two months now,” Ren said, not missing a beat. “The city certainly changes people.”
Takemi got a laugh out of that. “I mean physically, but I do like hearing about that. I take it you’re doing well.”
Ren nodded. “And part of it is thanks to your medicine.”
“Hm. Well that’s good to hear” Takemi said.
“Speaking of…” Ren said. She took the time to buy some. She bought more than she usually would as a sort of apology for forcing Takemi’s hand earlier.
“Well thank you” Takemi said after the transaction. Ren nodded. She flashed a very genuine smile. “You know, it’s nice to have a friend like you.” Ren smiled back.
Death-Tae Takemi: Rank 4
Ren left for the evening.
As she was leaving, she got a message from Yoshida.
Yoshida: I’m having another speech tonight. Care to join me.
Ren smiled.
Ren: Sure.
She headed off to Station Square to meet up with Yoshida. Once she did, Yoshida greeted her. “Ah, Amamiya-chan. Might I say that was quite a spectacle on TV.” Rn groaned. “Did I do something wrong?”
“No,” Ren said. “I’m just not used to that much attention.”
“I see,” Yoshida said. “Well, if you aim to be a politician, that can’t be avoided. People will always be watching you because you’re supposed to be a reflection of the people who elected you.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Ren said.
“Well, it’s about time,” Yoshida said. “Shall we get going?” Ren nodded. “Oh, before we go, I do have a question.” Ren was curious. “I could avoid it, but I did write this speech based around the interview, and there’s even a part where I point you out. Would you like me to take it out?”
Ren looked at him and shook her head. “It’s fine. People are already talking about it, and I trust you more than most people to handle things well.”
“Why thank you” Yoshida said, smiling ear to ear. “Now let’s go.”
Ren picked up the card she would be holding. “‘Tonight’s Topic: What We Can Learn from Today’s Youth’.” Ren smiled, picked up the card, and headed over.
Yoshida took his place, Ren took hers, and a crowd started to gather. Ren noticed some people from last time she was here, but also noticed some new faces. “People of Tokyo!” Yoshida began. “As you may know, the Phantom Thieves struck again, this time at the heart of the art world. Of course I was surprised by this as well. But one thing the two incidents have in common is that both perpetrators have abused children.
Society goes on and on about how we should think of the children, but are we really thinking? Or are we pretending to think about them when really we’re thinking of ourselves? Recent data shows that only 12% of people throughout Japan believe and admire the Phantom Thieves, with the plurality of that being children and young adults.
Of course, generational divides exist, and of course, with age comes wisdom, but as adults, we cannot ignore everything these children say just because it doesn’t agree with our point of view. Children have opinions and ideas. To ignore them would be to discourage them from thinking at all. Why, just recently my assistant here debated another student about the Phantom Thieves.”
The crowd was more alert as they turned to Ren to confirm it was her. Ren was feeling the heat just a little too intently and began hiding behind the card she was holding. “Ahem!” Yoshida exclaimed, getting everyone’s attention back on him. “This makes it very clear that children have ideas they wish to express. And the popularity of the interview suggests that people are willing to listen. But we can’t make that a sometimes thing. We need to learn to listen whenever we can. I know that they can’t vote, but that doesn’t mean that if I’m elected, I’m representing them less.
I will listen to everyone’s concerns, no matter who brings them to me. I am running to represent all of you. To be that reflection of you all. And I wish that I would be a reflection you are proud to wake up to in the morning, and proud to see before you go to sleep. Thank you.” There was a little bit of clapping.
After the speech, Ren and Yoshida met up. “Sorry about that,” Yoshida said.
“No, it’s fine. I said it was alright” Ren said, clearly exhausted.
“Well, neither of us expected that much attention to shift towards you,”Yoshida responded.
Ren gathered herself. “By the way, that was an excellent speech.”
“Ah ha, thank you,” Yoshida said. “And as I said earlier, you did well yourself. Especially against someone like Akechi.”
Ren was a bit stunned. “You know Akechi?”
“Well, not personally,” Yoshida said. “But his reputation as Japan’s second Detective Prince precedes him. He’s apparently solved quite a few cases the police were stumped by.”
“I see…” Ren said, going into some thought. “Switching topics…” Yoshida looked at her, curious. “Well, I know you said kids have their own thoughts, and you used mine and Akechi’s debate as evidence, but…I don’t know if that’s more the majority, or just a vocal minority.”
“Bah ha!” Yoshida laughed. “I can see why you’d think that. But let me ask you this: Do you think every adult is as driven to stand for something?” Ren was surprised. “Exactly. So why should a concern be ignored just because it comes from a child? It shouldn’t.”
“Right. Sorry” Ren said.
“It’s fine,” Yoshida said. “As much as you know, there are some things you only learn through experience. But even so, you’re something special.”
Ren was surprised. “I am?”
Yoshida nodded. “While you might not have as much experience, you’re strong-willed, and have a good heart. That alone will take you a long way, no matter where you go. And also, you’ve helped me too.” Ren was shocked.
Yoshida continued. “Before you began helping me, I would make my speeches, and I would try to get the crowd stirred, but there was always a voice in the back of my mind saying that I’ll never earn the people’s trust. But you have proven me wrong, and I feel that makes me a better politician. Not just promising results, but seeing that people listen. So thank you, for helping me find my footing.”
Ren smiled. “Thank you. For helping me find mine too.” Yoshida’s smile widened. Ren’s did as well.
Sun-Toranosuke Yoshida: Rank 2
After their meeting, they headed home.

Ooooh i have an idea. Write about Nesta adopting a dog or a cat from the Illyrian Mountains while Cassian is away. Like my baby getting the undying loyalty and affection she deserves while eventually Nessian being cute with a pet
so once again i want to thank all y’all who have been submitting these prompts. they’ve been so fun to write as i take a break from my normal projects, and i feel like they’re much easier reads than the more angsty stuff i normally write. you can read all of them here (they’re all a couple hundred words, maybe some reach 1k). i hope you enjoy using them as an escape from the state of the world rn. i certainly do when i write them. however, it’s important to not completely pretend like nothing is wrong, so american readers, make sure you are registered to vote!
---
He can hear Nesta laughing from inside the house, before he even opens the door.
With the way things have been going with the two of them, it is not, to his immense pride and pleasure, rare for him to see her smile. Small ones, sometimes, with nothing in particular to say. Sometimes quiet huffs as she reads something that makes her beautiful eyes crinkle at the edges.
But a bright laugh? While she’s alone in the house? That hasn’t happened until now.
“Nesta?” he calls out cautiously. Perhaps she’s…with someone. But he can’t smell or hear anyone else.
“We’re in the kitchen,” her disembodied voice answers.
We?
As he enters the kitchen, he starts to worry for her wellbeing. Nesta sits alone at the table.
And then he sees what’s on her lap.
“Cassian,” Nesta says, picking up the thing up, “meet Artemisia.”
Artemisia looks up at him with a scowl on her grey face. Her fur is well-kept and her tail is stiffly between her legs.
“Nesta,” he says, weary. “Please tell me you didn’t get a cat.”
“I did.”
He smiles automatically when she does—even if it’s at the cat and not him.
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she? Look…look at her paws. She’s so small…what’s your problem?”
Her last sentence is sudden, rather aggressive.
“I don’t have a problem.”
“You don’t like her?” Nesta demands.
Nesta can spot a lie a mile away. And she holds grudges. But she also doesn’t like when people disagree with her. It only takes Cassian a few seconds to come up with the most strategic response. “I don’t normally like cats. But I’m sure I will.” He gives her an encouraging grin for good measure.
Nesta’s scowl matches the cat’s. “What do you mean you don’t normally like cats? They don’t even do anything.”
Exactly, he wants to say. “I guess I just prefer dogs.” Dogs are invaluable to a soldier. They sniff things out even heightened Fae senses can miss. They predict the weather more accurately than diviners; incredibly useful when planning training sessions in unfamiliar territory. And, well, they’re fun.
“Dogs are like…they’re so messy. And high maintenance. Like a toddler, but for their whole lives.”
“Who talks about children like that?”
“They’re not children. They just have all the worst aspects of children, forever.” Nesta smooths Artemisia’s fur. “Cats are adults. Better than adults.”
“Because they don’t talk?” he asks drily.
“Of course.”
Cassian sits down. “You know,” he says, thoughtful, “I think a dog would be good for you, actually.”
Nesta makes a face. “Never.”
“Well, you got a cat. Maybe I’ll get a dog.”
“I did not get a cat, you idiot. We got a cat.”
He raises an eyebrow at the pretty pink flush on her face. “Oh, we got a cat,” he says, leaning closer to her.
Nesta holds her ground, jutting her chin out. “We did.”
“I didn’t get much say in our cat, you know,” he says. How delicious does that sound—our cat.
She narrows her eyes. “We are not getting—”
“We don’t have to get a dog,” he says, rolling his eyes. “I just think you should do more to make me feel like we got a cat, and not you.”
He watches her intently to see if she thinks he teasing or serious, if she’s angry or amused. She’s good at hiding her emotions, but he’s gotten much better at knowing how she feels.
“You can give her a second name,” she says finally.
Cassian laughs. He was, as she knows, teasing. Sometimes Nesta snaps at him, shoots him down, but sometimes she entertains him. Every time she does is a new victory, another Nesta-Secretly-Likes-Me celebration.
“Give me a while to think about it,” he says.
Nesta stands up. “Don’t take too long. She deserves your end of the deal.” She tightens her arms around Artemisia, who purrs contentedly, as they sweep out of the room.
Cassian leans back again, smirking slightly. A Nesta-Not-So-Secretly-Likes-Me celebration, then.

in addition to these prompts, another thing i have been working on is starting a book tube channel. special shoutout to @skychild29 for encouraging me!! my editing skills are no where near as polished as my writing, as one i have been working on my whole life, the other since last week. so, if my reviews don’t make you laugh with me, feel free to laugh at me.
we have to face the facts: there is racism in sim’s books. her being jewish doesn’t absolve her of that. while i have always been conscious of this, and i have been critical, and also actively pursued books with a more diverse cast (for my own benefit too—i’m not represented particularly well, and qwoc), it never occurred to me to search for diverse authors. while the first book i reviewed was written by a white woman, i am going to actively pursue reads from woc, specifically black women. join me!
