“please…,” teru called out, grabbing your hand in a way that was harsh but delicate at the same time, “stay with me. let me be in your presence longer than you have deemed me worthy. let me be blessed for a little longer…please.”

he smiled as you stopped shuffling to get out of bed. he wanted nothing more than to stay with you. he knew you had other things to do but the thought of being so close to you and feeling your touch was too strong of a desire. the idea that someone as strong as you and as remarkable as you are would listen to his desires made his heart race. the fact that you would allow him to pull you closer and feel comforted by him…the way you would melt into his kisses and allow him to pull you impossibly closer, it was exhilarating to him. teru mikami needed nothing more in this world than you.

teru never craved attention until he had a taste of yours, maybe that’s why he couldn’t help but view you as some otherworldly being. he knew he was being selfish but he didn’t want to let you go after he’s had you, even if he feels like he didn’t deserve to be basked in your love every day. with the constant joy you have brought into his life, he feels as if it’s only right for him to make you feel on top of the world.

“you know i would pick staying in bed with you over anything else,” you couldn’t help but lovingly sigh, snuggling yourself further into his chest.

“then let us stay in this position forever.”

his eyes were laced with adoration for you and the small smile he gave when you held him tighter made you melt.

“teru,” you couldn’t help but giggle, “i’m not even working today. i just need to go somewhere alone to buy you a birthday gift.”

“all i need is for you to wake up each morning,” teru placed a kiss atop your forehead, “that is a gift in itself. letting me love you is another gift you’ve given me. i don’t need anymore because i have you.”

Happy Thanksgiving! Who wants random character oneshots?

I do! Here's some oneshots literally no one asked for, because I'm just like that!

Reader is gender neutral

(If you couldn't tell, I was thinking about Mikami, which is why he's first)

Teru Mikami

You can hear a faint "delete, delete, delete" as you dish out pie.

"Teru," you say, attempting to earn his attention.

"Delete, delete, delete!"

Is he ignoring you, or is he too caught up in his so-called "duties?"

"Teru," you say again.

"DELETE!" He makes big, dramatic strokes with his pen, causing you to roll your eyes.

"Teru!" you snap, causing him to finally look up.

"What's wrong, love?" he asks.

You smile at his use of the word love.'

You slide over his cut of the pumpkin pie, earning an odd look. "Why is the dessert first?" he questions.

"Happy Thanksgiving." You roll your eyes.

"What's that?"

"An American holiday celebrating colonization, death, and destruction. At this point it's just an excuse to pig out, though."

"And why are we celebrating this holiday?"

"Because I'm hungry?"

He gives you a blank look that looks funny on his normally serious face.

"Because I'm American, Teru," you finally say.

"I'm busy, Y/N. God said-"

You kiss him on the head. "All you do is work, love. Kira can wait. Have pie! It's good!"

His cheeks turn slightly pink at the suddenly display of affection, and he wipes his glasses. "You think he won't mind?"

"Just spend time with your oh-so-loving partner, and you can write names for the rest of the night."

"A fair compromise. I... don't see why not."

"Happy Thanksgiving," you say with a smile.

"Happy Thanksgiving."

L Lawliet

"Ryuzaki, you've never expressed any interest in this holiday. You just want sweets."

L hums in response. "You don't have to call me Ryuzaki, you know."

"I know, but that's how you introduced yourself to me, so it's my nickname for you now..."

"I am aware."

L places pie, an odd Oreo cake, and a stray cookie on his plate. "It's nice to celebrate foreign holidays."

"You did not cook turkey, gravy, stuffing, or any of the actual foods. You just want an excuse to eat sweets!"

L pouts. "That is not true."

L pouting is a common, yet still hilarious sight. It contrasts with his serious, sleep-deprived exterior, and it never fails to make you laugh.

"I win, Ryuzaki," you say with a smirk, playing on his competitive nature.

"No, you haven't gotten me to admit anything."

"I'll throw out your food."

"No!" His typical monotonous voice momentarily turns almost angry.

He grabs his plate and holds it. He manages to balance it on his pulled-up knees, and drops an Oreo in his mouth.

"How aren't you diabetic?" you sigh, finally giving in.

It appears L Lawliet has won once more.

Bonus: Lumity

"Luz, you never did explain... Thanksgiving... to me."

Luz laughs, attempting to serve Amity a decent piece of the turkey. "Oh, Amity. There's no need to explain it, it's just a day where we're thankful for things!"

"But that's every day, right?"

"Yes, but today we celebrate! By stuffing ourselves!"

"That's odd."

Still, Amity sits down, and bites into her turkey, quickly gagging. "Luz, I think you did it wrong..."

"What? But I did it how-" Luz bites into her own, he eyes widening in shock.

"Yuck. This is bad."

The pair share a chuckle.

"It's okay, we'll just have something else!" Amity suggests helpfully.

"Yeah, let's... let's do that."

Random Mikami x Reader Thoughts from the Past (Pt.1)

This goes out to the one popular girl who was always super nice and genuinely sweet to me when I was a kid. I wonder if she ever knew I had a crush on her?

I like to envision a lot of sweet and tender "what ifs" with Mikami. So this is a, "what if Teru had at least one friend in middle school". Just some wholesome thoughts... I'm a sucker for "childhood friends who have a crush on the other but life gets in the way and they get reunited as adults and become a couple."

What if he endured all of the bullying and torment all throughout middle school, when a new transfer student comes along?

What if you, the transfer student, were shocked at how the school didn't bother to handle the bullying that went on and properly reprimanded the bad apples?

I can see Teru probably getting his ass kicked when you see it, for the first time, and interject. You were popular already, because you were "different". You being from somewhere else already made you "interesting" and people at school wanted to be around you. It was a game of who would get you in their clique first.

You defended the boy who got beat up, handing him his shattered glasses and asking if he's okay, once your stunt shooed the bullied away.

Teru was a bit suspicious of you. Though he liked to see the good in people, you unknowingly hung out with the very people he thought "evil". But still, he was kind to you. Wary, but kind.

Over the course of a few weeks, whenever you had seen him as a victim, you would step in and take care of him. You would baby him, almost, despite him not reacting well to that sort of thing.

Pretty soon, Teru went from sitting alone and having nobody, to just...having you. You sat yourself down next to him once, and he was both overjoyed yet anxious. You were not yet fluent in Japanese, yet you did your best to speak with him and try to be his friend.

He already liked you platonically, the moment you stood up for him. It just needed to be one person - anyone - for him to feel like he wasn't truly alone.

You'd had his back, and patched him up when it was necessary. Though part of him thought you were pranking him, just putting on an act and waiting for the right moment to say "Gotcha!" , it was hard for him to fully open up to you.

A few times before, someone would get close. Teru would reveal some kind of secret and the next day, everybody knew and mocked him as he walked by. There was another instance of bullying where a girl did the same, cozied up to Teru and pretended to have a crush on him - only to make a fool out of him in front of his classmates.

He'd been through so much, so it was no wonder that when you told him you liked him, he became somewhat avoidant. Every time he ran into you, it was like he was expecting you to deliver the punchline. However, that moment never came.

That is, until. Some of his bullies got a bit jealous. Why was he happy? Despite all of those beatings and torment, when Mikami was with you, he was able to laugh, and smile. So they "fixed" that.

...By writing a fake love note on behalf of you, of course. Ever seen Heathers? Just like that.

His bullies had written a note confessing "your" love for Mikami. Although he was smart, he was tricked into thinking it was true. Hope, wishful thinking, and the thought of something going good in his life, for once - you, having a crush on him. Sure, he thought of you like that before but he tried not to entertain it too much. Can't be disappointed if your expectations are already low, right?

Still, he plays it safe.

He merely tells you during lunch, "I got your letter" and waits for your response. When you're obviously confused as if you've no idea what he's talking about, he understands. Despite having that suspicion, it didn't hurt any less.

He excuses himself in the middle of the meal, as it's just difficult to be around you now.
