Soundwave, based on the cover of S·F·X by Haruomi Hosono (1984)

I don't own this album physically, but I'll still place my current thoughts about it here! I think it's brilliant. The cover has some insane halftone that I unfortunately don't yet know how to replicate. I'm only now getting into the Yellow Magic Orchestra rabbit hole, and I think it's wild that albums like this existed in the early 80s. The non-standard bits are fascinating without making me feel like I'm going insane (looking at you Philharmony). I'd say the most approachable tracks are Body Snatchers (I prefer the original mix to the special mix), Androgena (my favorite!), and Strange Love. Dark Side of the Star is also approachable, but is nothing like the rest of the album. If you want to give this album a shot, I'd recommend listening to those first and then the whole thing, otherwise you probably won't like it---unless you're already into experimental and/or 80s music. But I'm no connoisseur. I just like 80s synth. 3-6-9 is definitely what Soundwave hears in the shadowzone, though.

I've been thinking about Tarn and the DJD (sometimes one without the other, in either direction) a lot lately, because they're interesting. They work in such a fascinating way, that can change and flux based on the circumstances.

Ended up tag talking again

I've also thought on an off about alternate DJD members who are names after different Cybertron cities? Yeah. And try and puzzle out how they'd integrate into the DJD's known rhythm.

This is partially based upon me recently starting this one Ultra Magnus/Tarn fic and how the DJD have integrated into peace, which is. Interesting, considering just how soaked in violence they are (though one of the tags explicitly states that Tarn is approximately 40% the amounts of fucked up he is in canon, so this likely contributes)

It's fascinating, because they're such a specific set up.

"Desperate, aren't you?" Knockouts voice reverbs through your com link. Despite being miles apart from each other, you can still visualise that cocky smirk the con is notoriously known for.

"Mhm..." You mewl, thighs spread, digits trembling in anticipation for him to give you the word. Your spark's fluttering in equal excitement and adrenaline, who know what would happen if you get caught by your superiors for fraternizing with the enemy.

"Delightful..." Knockout purrs, "I sure do hope you're able to keep quiet, or will that be a problem?"

"N..No... sir.." You murmur softly as to not cause an echo through the storage room, clenching your thighs together with a servo crushed inbetween.

"Good," You hear Knockout shift around on what you'd presume was a berth, and hear a harsh click followed by a soft grunt, "Now, arent you going to touch yourself?"

"Yes sir..." Your voice croaks, servos metaphorically unshackled at last.

You try not to rush yourself, taking your time to stuff yourself with an ample sized false spike, desperatley wishing it was your deadly confidant on top of you.

Your imagination runs wild at the thought, what his spike would look and feel like. If he would lean down and press rough kisses to your dermas, if they would tenderly trail down to leave marks and fang shaped wounds across your neck. It's enough to draw an unchaste moan from you, and to fuck yourself harder on the spike.

"That's it..." The mech growls. Though muffled, you can hear the wet, sticky sounds of him thoroughly enjoying himself paired with his panting, "Such a... nffgh... naughty bot..."

"Nngh, please sir..." You whine, posing your pedes in the air imagining it was him pounding your tight valve.

"Ohh, but we've only just started," Knockout teases, though with the undertone of desperation, "You wanna overload already, slut?"

Fuck... you thought you would've lasted a least a bit longer. You don't respond though, your glitching vocaliser failing you as you cry out in blinding ecstasy. Valve clenching on the toy and overloading with such force that, for a moment, the sensation feels as if Knockouts spike throbs against your tight walls.

"By Primus...nggh... oh frag-" He whimpers, listening feverishly as he brings himself to his own overload. The comlink glitching in and out with interference of your combined overloads.

You listen with equal zest, a servo lazily thrusting the toy inside you until his moans quiet down to harsh pants. Yet conflictingly, you think about what you had just done, the post overload shame quietly creeping up on you with every moment of silence you sit in.

He speaks up, clearing his vocaliser, "Well, that was entertaining. But just one thing dear..."

"Yes... sir?" You swallow.

"I don't remember giving you permission to overload."

why shockwave is the most fatherly decepticon (even more so than soundwave):

(aka i’m delusional and smitten)

every character in every medium revolves around a theme. a theme in a novel or a show or a film tends to be an idea that will be explored in both the subtext and text of that medium.

shockwave’s theme, surprise, surprise, is creation and rebirth (in most tf media). his whole character is concerned with the parenting of either himself (as a way of rehabilitating after empurata) or of others (predacons, his little bots in cyberverse, or even his subordinates like tarn)

now, you might ask, what sets shockwave’s fatherliness apart from soundwave’s? how is he any more fatherly than soundwave?

allow me to demonstrate with the following screenshot from guardians of the galaxy:

shockwave was everyone’s father, but soundwave was everyone’s daddy (no not like that)

still not convinced? allow me to introduce you or remind you of the concept of nature vs. nurture. ironically enough, for someone who is only a father, shockwave is the more nurturing one. soundwave is considered a father because he is a cassette player and his “children” are cassettes

in idw1 soundwave was actually more so adopted by his cassettes rather than the other way around. shockwave, on the other hand, birthed - even if not literally - and raised all the subjects he needed to raise to prepare for either war or for life

in idw1, shockwave was like a father to tarn. post-empurata, he still chose to call tarn the name that defined him the most: “damus.” not “glitch”, not “tarn”, which are all personas and not real identities (glitch = associated with his outlier power, tarn = leader of djd) but “damus.” shockwave knows the real tarn because he was there to raise him.

(extra note: to really drill in the fact that shockwave was fatherly to tarn, shockwave thinks “damus” is tarn’s real name while megatron, right before killing him, implies that “glitch” is. megatron is a military leader; he will favor the identity that holds the most militant potential. shockwave cared for tarn; he will favor the boy he knew when he was still in the academy)

we can even still see the effects of pre-empurata shockwave on tarn, who takes great pleasure in the arts and everything conceptually and fundamentally beautiful like poetry or literature or music. and guess who wanted to be remembered for “both his brains and his beauty”?

in cyberverse, he was actually kinda like a father to shadowstriker. he took her in after she was severely injured and placed her in his unit as a form as rehab, if you will (she wouldn’t have been able to go to more militant and armed units in such a condition). though he was less there to nurture shadowstriker, as she was already a developed adult, he was there to protect her. iirc, in a scene where they get frozen by this immobilizer, shockwave pushes her behind him.

it’s the same in tfp, where shockwave, near the end of the series, shoves ratchet behind him during the spacebridge battle and fires at other autobots. the enemy is LITERALLY next to him and yet he chooses to protect ratchet from stray bullets. and to address the predacon elephant in the room, he literally raised predacons. he petted them and comforted them and gave them sustenance to live and thrive.

shockwave is cold, rational, and is obsessed with logic, yes, but he assumes this logic from what he has observed and what he has experienced before, whether that before be pre-empurata or before the war.

could he have had a fatherly and caring figure before the war? possibly. could he have picked it up from how animals assume this role automatically, as if it was biologically and universally a logical thing to do? possibly. but have we ever considered that… it’s just part of his personality?

BuT but shoCkwAve dOesnT have EmoTions

if he didn’t have emotions and therefore no personality, he’d never feel compelled to lie or have any will to do anything. he is driven. a computer is not. a computer is told to do something and will output the most logical output based on its coding. he’s self-driven and autonomous with his decisions.

so, to sum it up, shockwave is nurturing, but because he is often overruled by the need to follow a strict diet of reason and self-motivated curiosity for knowledge, this part of him is always overshadowed. he’s not a good man. he will frankly never be. but he can be a good father if he only let himself be. thank you for coming to my ted talk

When optimus and (Y/N) were at a cafe since they saw it when they drove pass and it looked interesting.

While they waited in line, (Y/N) feels somone kick the back of their leg.

It dident hurt since they where in a haloform.

When they turned around, they see a little kid.

(It looked like the kid from shrek. Here is the kidvvv)

(Y/N) tried to be nice and asked them not to kick them.

The kid just kicks them again.

(Y/N) was about to snap and push the kid over Intel optimus hold their shoulder.

Optimus told them to not do that.

And that autobots don't harm humans

When optimsu turns around to order, (Y/N) trips the kid when it walks by.

Optimus gives (Y/N) a glare but sighs.

Shockwave

Shockwave and (Y/N) where at the movie theater.

(Y/N) had to beg on their hands and knees to get Shockwave to come with them to a place that wasn't the lab or throne room.

While Shockwave and (Y/N) wait in line, (Y/N) sees a child cut infront of them

(Y/N) grabs their collar and pulls them behind them.

(This is the kid btw vvv)

(Y/N) and the child actually start to have a yelling match.

Shockwave grabs their shoulder and talks to (Y/N).

Shockwave: "it's a child."

The kid then turns to Shockwave and yells at him

Kid: "and you're an ugly prickly bitch!"

Shockwave just stairs at the kid and turns to (Y/N)

Shockwave: "2 minutes, I will get a portal ready."

Soundwave and (Y/N) where at the arcade.

(Y/N) knows Soundwave will not like anything to Physical so gaming systems then it is.

While Soundwave and (Y/N) wait online for a game called halo, a kid looks over to them.

Kid: "this place not for adults."

(Y/N) tell the kid to shut up, but they soon get into an argument

Spon the Kid challenges both of you to a match.

Before (Y/N) van respawn, Soundwave puts their hand on their shoulder and shakes their head.

Soundwave then points at the kid and then himself.

Challging the kid to a 1v1.

When it was his turn, he put his hands on the toy gun, but (Y/N) sees him using his haloform to glitch out the game.

Soundwave won, 34-1.

The kid cried and ran to his mother.

(Y/N) enjoyed the day, so did Soundwave.

Your optics glitch and fuzz with static, sensors running amok trying to make sense of everything coming at you. Your battle system isn’t exactly attuned for a ‘casual run-in’ with a Decepticon, weapons suite continually trying to come online despite your arms being pinned back by a very firm tendril. You’ve always had something of an unhealthy fascination with the Third-in-Command of the Decepticons, particularly the very useful extra appendages he carries. Unfortunately, getting up close and personal has not stifled or sated your curiosity.

As long as Soundwave is willing to humor you, you’ll keep coming back for more.

One of those smart tendrils fills your valve, rapidly and repeatedly, as the communications officer watches behind that veil of a mask. He keeps his EM field pulled in tight, he always does, but you wish he would let the warm crackle of his arousal wash over you. Does he enjoy seeing you like this, an Autobot helpless to him in the most intimate of ways? Never once have you seen his spike, been filled by him, only given cold, probing tentacles. You wonder what will pull him in to finally press his frame to yours, sheathe his spike inside of you. Perhaps he’s uncomfortable being so bare before a mech.

Perhaps he’s using you? But once would have been enough. You’re well aware he records every encounter, no matter how small. Surely, if he wanted to use this against you, one recording of you pleading for him would be more than enough. And yet, he allows you to call upon him time and time again. It’s hard to gauge his level of enjoyment, but just a flicker, just a touch, of his field to yours would feed your curiosity further.

You arch your back, pressing down into the tendril thrusting into you, inviting him to use you however he wishes. So long as he keeps filling your valve. The tricky probes at the end of the tentacle inside of you brushes charge against your innermost nodes, lighting up your sensors with far more pleasure than a war frame can handle. You long for him to cave and fill you with something far more intimate than his many appendages, curious still, but Soundwave is unmoving and unreadable as stone.

You’re playing with fire, you know you are. This could end horribly for you, humiliated before comrade and enemy alike if Soundwave so wished it, but you’ve always been far too inquisitive for your own good. Far too greedy when you find something good. Your optics stay rooted to his mask, watching him watching you, and croon his designation. The minute twitch of his digits promising.

Congrats on being both my first request after my break, and my first Breakdown request!! It was fun to explore Breakdown’s character for this, hope you enjoy :)

“What are you doing?”

“Hm? What do you mean?”

“This,” Breakdown shifts his shoulder around, and you stumble from your perch- only staying in place after managing to lock your arms around his neck in time. “What is this??”

“I’m chillin’.”

“What?” There was more confusion in his voice now than you think you’d ever heard before. “What- what does the temperature have to do with anything?”

You stifle a laugh, removing your arms from his neck and slowly climbing behind him. He reaches for you, but you’re in that sweet spot just behind his head where his servos can’t reach. “Not literally, duh,” you begin as he does so, “I’m just hanging out.”

“Well, could ya’ do that somewhere else?” He stops bothering to try and grab you after a good minute of attempting, instead deciding to return to the work before him. Transforming one of his servos into a hammer, he rams down an ancient bolt of one of the Nemesis’ engines back into its place.

You finally make your way across the back of his shoulders onto the other side, taking a seat without a care. “But how can I do that when you’re the one I’m hanging out with?”

When he agreed to watch over you until Shockwave returned from a mission- you were one of the unlucky humans taken from their dull lives for the purposes of Decepticon experimentation- Breakdown thought it would be easy. He was content in believing what he was told- that humans were barely sentient bags of flesh; suitable as pets, but nothing more.

But, here you were, talking his audial receptors into malfunction. Not bothering to dignify your words with a reply, the officer continues to hammer at his work.

The silent treatment, eh? You knew how to change that.

First, you took one small step forward- to gauge if Breakdown would bother to look at you. Seeing that his helm wasn’t angrily pointed in your direction, you took that as confirmation. A grin spreads across your face, and you leap from his shoulder- his wide chestplate your intended destination.

Much to your surprise, you land without much issue, offering a mischievous smile. “Can’t ignore me now, huh?”

Breakdown opens his mouth to speak, but the steep incline to his chestplate leaves you teetering in your place, and suddenly, you’re in free fall.

You don’t know how long you expected to fall for, but as you land on something beneath you, something tells you that a speedy descent to the floor would’ve taken just a few seconds longer.

You look below you to see a familiar gray servo, and when you look up, a familiar blue mech with an unimpressed glare spread across his orange faceplate.

“Uh… my bad?” You offer, your previously confident grin turning embarrassed.

While his optics didn’t have pupils, part of you somehow senses that he was rolling them now. Transforming his hammer back into a servo, he plucks you up by it and- to your surprise- places you back on his shoulder. You’re at a loss for words for a moment, and as you lean forwards to gauge his expression once more, you tilt your head. “Does… this mean I can stay?”

Being nice to the Vehicons on occasion was one thing, but being nice to a human? Breakdown must’ve had a glitch in his processor. He must have only saved you out of some fluke. Yeah, that was all. He’d talk to Knockout later about getting a quick diagnosis.

“If this’ll keep you from ending your already short life, just- I dunno’, ask me, next time.”

TEG: Megatronus-Soundwave fight detail

hello hello!

while rereading/editing TEG I remembered a detail that I had put in, which no one has ever commented about. I never drew attention to it though I think I meant to circle back to it towards the end... but maybe it can be sequel fodder.

the detail mentioned above ties into a slightly longer discussion of how Megatronus damaged Soundwave during their fight in Ch 11, which is something I've always wanted to do a mini commentary on

the specific body parts Megatronus chooses to destroy are done in a purposeful order

once Megatronus has gotten SW to the floor of the arena, in a position where he can't defend himself, he tells SW to yield. After every damaging blow, he offers SW the yield. but SW refuses.

after the first refusal, Megatronus goes for an eye:

Megatronus brought his fist down on Soundwave's left eye. It shattered, spewing blue. “Augh!” Soundwave's vision halved. The edges of Megatronus's sneering face and the arena above glitched in purple.

Side note: I debated structuring the fic around SW only having one eye the whole time in a way the reader wouldn't notice until a reread, and part of that being that his vision included purple glitches, but ended up discarding that idea.

Megatronus asks SW to yield. SW refuses. So he crushes SW's throat:

He shoved Soundwave's collar plating aside and gripped his throat, crushing its cords. “Yield!”

And this was the little detail I'd meant to flesh out in the fic: that SW's unique voice is due to the damage he sustained at this moment. in TFP we see characters talk about how their body parts can't be replaced. heck Bumblebee uses radio to express himself for the very reason that his voice is busted. so this fits with canon and is an additional explanation for why SW repeats others' voices rather than use his own, and moreso, when he does use it, it sounds strange to others (rainbowy/many harmonics/echoing).

but alas, I forgot to seed little inquiries about it to make it A Thing, and then to put the reveal in the Epilogue where SW shows Rodimus his face. it woulda been a nice thing to include, but I feel like putting it in now would be cheating, lol. but! I will learn from this experience and make sure to keep careful track of details like this in future work

[though, perhaps, it is better for SW's vocalizations to be purely the product of his personality, and not partially due to physical damage (????) a debate for scholars, not me, lol]

back to the arena. even with an eye crushed and his voice box destroyed, SW refuses to yield, so Megatronus goes for his face. SW is a vain, self-centered gladiator, so damaging his face and ruining his beautiful biolights is quite a nasty move:

Scraps of serrated metal sprang from Megatronus's fist like knives. He slashed Soundwave's face, severing the biolights in his cheek. They spurted fluid and flickered. Their light went out. “Augh!!” Soundwave had never felt deactivated biolights before. The pain was excruciating, even worse than the broken eye and the tentacles being ground into the arena floor.

side note: this bit is why SW reacts to Mirage disarming Skywarp in a far future chapter- Skywarp's knuckles extend jagged blades and our point of view character, Rodimus, notes that SW's shudder is the only reaction he has to Skywarp being disarmed. SW is remembering back to this time, when such weapons were used on him

the conversation then goes like this:

“Yield!” “No!” “Yield, or you will never fight in this arena again!” “No!” “Very well.” Megatronus snarled and gripped the base of the primary tentacle. He squeezed it between his fingers. With a roar, he ripped it out of Soundwave's frame. Soundwave screamed.

Megatronus gives SW many chances to yield before permanently disfiguring him and destroying his special ability. SW is incredibly stubborn and thinks he is superior, so he repeatedly refuses. he only yields when the most precious, important part of him has been taken away. He can't bear to lose another tentacle.

so there we go! wanted to note those things down somewhere. they'll probably go in the Compendium =)

There's two (2) versions of Tarn I adore. The first is him being the almost stereotypical nice guy, and his obsession with Mwgatron is definitely sexual. Like in tfp au! Or canon, I guess.

But I also love when he's Megatron's sparkling? And he doesn't know it. The obsession coming from a broken/twisted sparkling/creator bond. Or he feels like they're connected somehow and doesn't know why but only if Megatron would see him. Actually look at him. Like in that one tfp fic that had Megatron not even wanting to see him at birth.

Tarn's interesting like that!

I've been exploring his character a LOT lately, especially with changing up the dynamics and seeing what happens (examples including tfp au Tarn, yes, but also my cryptidcon!Glitch plotline)

I've certainly explored the latter idea, and it's always interesting because you just know that path is gonna go down interesting. Like, in that fic's plotline? You just KNOW that Damus is gonna turn out delightfully different than he did in canon.
