Buck & Eddie: Baking Muffins vs. Baking Cookies
Tumblr media
Since it aired, I've posted several times that 6x13 "Mixed Feelings" was my favorite episode of season 6 and it was the finale for me. I'm not sure why 6x14 - 6x18 ended or played out the way they did but I still believe there was a reason for 6x13 to air when it did and why it was before all the BS that happened afterwards.
I've watched all six of Buck's and Eddie's, Buck's and Chris' and the Buckley Diaz Family's scenes numerous times and every time I do, I find something that was a callback to previous episodes. I've already done a post on the significance of Buck bringing cookies to Eddie's house in 3x11 compared to him baking them with Chris in 6x13 (linked here) but this post is different because it parallels the scene Buck had with Chris from 6x13 to another scene Chris had with one of Eddie's previous relationships.
The scene from 6x13 with Buck and Chris included some parallels and callbacks to the scene from 5x3 with Eddie, Chris and Ana.
Baking muffins vs. Baking cookies
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, in 5x3 after the blackout, Eddie went home to BREAKUP WITH ANA. He was there with her and Chris after she baked enough muffins to feed a classroom full of children. But in 6x13, Eddie WASN'T THERE and he left their son with his second dad while they baked cookies for Chris' class. Reminder, when Eddie met Ana, she was Chris' teacher but in season 3 SHE DIDN'T TELL EDDIE HOW TO HELP CHRIS SKATEBOARD BUT BUCK DID! They worked together to help Chris do something he obviously wanted to do even though Ana started telling Eddie about novels🙄. Also, in 6x13, Buck specifically said they needed to make enough cookies for Chris' whole class. Eddie just dipped like he did in 3x1 after he dropped Chris off with "his Buck" and was probably like, "It's cool because our son (his and Buck's) is with his other dad, so I don't need to be there."
The Kitchens
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 5x3, when Eddie and Ana went into the kitchen, it was a MESS! A big mess to say the least. She had stuff everywhere like she was a brand-new cook or some BS but everyone knows she wasn't since she baked two cakes in 4x13 for Carla's birthday, therefore the STATE OF THE KITCHEN SPOKE VOLUMES about her relationship with Eddie. However, in 6x13, Buck's kitchen was ORGANIZED AND CLEAN. Buck and Eddie's relationship functions like a well-oiled machine. It always has ever since they removed a live grenade from Charlie's leg in 2x1.
Tumblr media
In 6x13, Buck specifically said, "So whenever I cook, I like to measure out all my ingredients". But in 5x3, it looked like Ana didn't measure anything. She just baked and left the mess for someone else to clean up.
Buck was working with Chris the same way he did every other time him and Chris were together. Here are some examples, in 3x2-3x3 after the Tsunami, in 3x12 when Eddie and Buck built Chris an adaptable skateboard, in 4x8 when Chris ran away to Buck's loft, in 5x13 when Chris called Buck during Eddie's breakdown and in 5x14 when Buck helped Chris with his homework. The look on Eddie's face in 5x3 before he told Ana "Maybe you should go home first" said it all. He didn't want her there and he never called her "his Ana" like he called Buck "his Buck".
Chris' comment and question
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, Chris said "Let's make brownies next" in 5x3 but Ana's reply was "I think we need to clean that kitchen first". She made the mess but she wanted Chris to help her clean it up. But in 6x13, Chris asked, "Can we have cookies for dinner?" and Buck replied, "Well, I thought maybe we'd have some steak and then cookies". He didn't suggest Chris clean up the mess because THERE WASN'T ONE! Reminder Buck's kitchen was already clean even though Ana left Eddie's messy.
The difference between Ana and Buck is BUCK'S ALWAYS BEEN SHOWN TO BE CHRIS' SECOND PARENT! She played the role as the "NICE" girlfriend who was a "God send" but she was NEVER going to be there long since Buck's the person who's been raising Chris with Eddie for years.
Bonus: In 5x2 Buck told Eddie to breakup with Ana and he did in 5x3🙃.
Will Buck and Eddie FINALLY become a CANON couple in season 7 or will the show keep throwing one dimensional women at them instead of just letting them be together? Only the showrunners, writers and producers know the answers to that question.

31 Days of Bizarre Movie Monsters Wrapup Tumblr Post
Tumblr media
Deep Dark: the monster is a sexy hole and not really the villain.
Vanishing on 7th Street: the world is consumed by darkness, literally.
Vivarium: human cuckoo birds still not sure how to take care of the humans.
Tetsuo the Iron Man: repressed homosexuality might give you rocket shoes.
The Babadook: sometimes trauma is a weird guy.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe: when a dead witch is actually neither thing.
The Empty Man: psychic cults, tulpas and a hare-brained human internet. Ties in with a short comic series that provides more essential lore.
Smile: sometimes trauma is where a weird guy lives.
Little Otik: a piece of wood thinks it’s a baby, but doesn’t get it quite right.
Rubber: a tire kills people in a confounding meta-meta narrative.
Honorable Mentions I: some monsters that didn’t make it in.
The Ritual: a fucked up deer thing might be a norse demigod? This wound up the most normal monster in the list and could have probably stood to be a different choice, but I had fun reviewing it.
Galaxy of Terror: please pick up after your children before going extinct. The only movie I included that’s considered “so bad it’s good.”
Eraserhead: he’s just a little guy :(
Amulet: weird bats, a mollusk goddess of revenge and a truly horrific final twist.
Event Horizon: the famous “spa
ceship possessed by hell” movie. She just wants to go home, that’s all.
In the Tall Grass: this time the Stephen King monster IS the midwest. A field of grass warps space/time to torment intruders.
It Follows: about a sexually transmitted stalker.
Honorable Mentions II: more movies that were left out of the main feature.
Malignant: also just a little guy but also kind of a prick. An atmospheric horror film that (intentionally) becomes cheesy horror-action.
Incarnation: a single mom vs. a forgotten goddess in a heartwrenching and creatively immersive found footage film.
Possum: about a man and his terrifying puppet, but neither are the real monster.
Await Further Instructions: a toxic family are prisoners of their television.
Terrified: ghostly encounters that are really something completely different.
The Tingler: doctors hate him! Local man discovers the weird bug that lives in everybody’s vertebrae.
Oculus: mirror hates people, dogs and houseplants, may be most unbeatable antagonist featured.
Fiend Without a Face: the original “tentacled brain” monster movie and more.
1408: rude customer vs. sadistic trickster god hotel room with multiple, equally canon endings.
Pontypool: the most “abstract” monster in the entire feature.
Ring: a weirder horror franchise than most people actually know, and Sadako to begin with is weirder than most people remember.
Ana and Bruno: like I say at the end of the review, it’s a more touching Toy Story meets an even darker Babadook

Hello! I loved your post about Baghra and how she is a glorified egoist and super toxic!!!
I would like to know your opinion about Ana Kuya, the terrible woman who screwed and oppressed Alina when she was still a child!!!
⚠️TW!: Domestic violence and abuse!⚠️
Thanks, anon!
Apparently that's a similarity that they share, the Darkling and Alina. They both had shitty, abusive mothers. And in Ana Kuya's case it's pretty much the same. She was physically abusive and Alina and Mal remember her fondly. And that's the problem. Instead of having the characters admit that she was a horrible mother figure, we have them look back on her punishments as something...worth to be remembered fondly??
Let's dive in her most fucked-up moments.
Tumblr media
Talking shit about the children she's assigned to look after. Alina and Mal both heard her but she's still an icon in their eyes! 😍
Tumblr media
No 'cause imagine comparing your mother figure to some blood-thirsty creatures with sharp claws and teeth that live and thrive in darkness.
Uhh...
Tumblr media
Excerpt No. 1, in which the protagonists talk about Ana Kuya's physically abusive behaviour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A LETTER?!
Girl, if I were you I would say adiós and never look back. What letter are you talking about?? 😭
Tumblr media
Ana Kuya being responsible of Alina's shame for wanting to get it on with a man. This woman and her morals are imprinted in her mind.
Tumblr media
Imagine having to spend your last day with your love and choosing to talk about her. And the memory is again toxic 🥹
Other couples: "Let's talk about our happy memories"
Malina: "Let's talk about how our mother abused us"
Tumblr media
They have literally zero good memories from her. Only shouting and beatings.
Tumblr media
Now that's a woman to admire!!
Tumblr media
Do you hear that Alina?? You must kiss their shoes otherwise you would be like that poor girl on the road! 😠
Tumblr media
Excerpt No. 2, in which the protagonists talk about Ana Kuya's physically abusive behaviour.
Tumblr media
Excerpt No. 3, in which the protagonists talk about Ana Kuya's physically abusive behaviour.
Tumblr media
Excerpt No. 4, in which the protagonists talk about Ana Kuya's physically abusive behaviour.
If a child refuses to eat a food, beat it!
Tumblr media
Aha! So she does acknowledge it, huh? But what does it matter? We forgive her in this house😍❤️
(also can we talk about how they wanted one of their friends to meet her? Like guys whyy??😭)
Tumblr media
Thank the heavens actually.
In my opinion, children need mostly love and understanding. But they also need discipline, yes. But NOT through physical violence. NOT through constant screaming. This is wrong but it's very possible that in Ravka it's accepted and forgiven? Because I also remember reading somewhere that when Nikolai was a child and misbehaved, they were punishing his best friend physically (I haven't read the duology so please correct me if I'm wrong). So even the royal family found it normal.
But having the characters look back to it as something that was okay? And they adored her?
I'm sorry but I didn't shed one tear when she died. Botkin's death affected me more than hers ever did.
Alina when she died: "Oh my God!"
Me when she died: "Oh thank God!"

Goddess Danu 'Tuatha Dè Danann'
Danu, Great Mother Dana, Anu, Ana, Anann, Danand, Dôn (Wales), Danuvius (Roman), Duna (Hungarian), Donau (German)
Danu is an ancient Irish triple goddess who is considered the “Great Mother” of Ireland.
She is the Mother of the Irish gods and faery people, the Tuatha Dé Danann , which literally means the “People of the Goddess Danu”.
Danu means knowledge, wisdom, wealth and abundance. However her name is also connected to water, and could mean ‘the flowing one’.
Danu is thought to have married Bilé and was the mother of the Dagda, the chief leader of the Tuatha Dé Danann. In other myths, she is known as the daughter or lover of the Dagda.
Her other children included Nuada, Dian Cécht, Ogma, Airmid, Etan, Miach, Cian/Kian, Sawan and Goibhniu.
Because of the similarities in correspondences, Danu has been associated with other goddesses, including Anu, the Universal Mother, and the Morrigan, the goddess of war.
Danu is also very similar to the Welsh goddess Dôn, who is the mother figure of the medieval tales in the Mabinogion.
Danu was also sometimes associated with Brigid, the daughter of the Dagda.
It is thought through her association with water, the River Danube was named after her.
Also, there are two round-topped hills in County Kerry, Ireland, called Da Chich Anu/Anann (the Paps of Anu), thought to represent the two breasts of Danu/Anu.
Danu has a strong connection to the land and water. She is a goddess of fertility, bounty, plenty, prosperity, wind, rivers, water, wells, wisdom, and inspiration.
Some of Danu’s symbols include holy stones, horses, seagulls, fish, amber, gold, flowing water, air, wind, earth, moon, keys and crowns.
Danu reminds us that we are capable of realizing our own dreams, empowering us to create our own destiny.

psychic headcanon babble for the mother 1 crew (aka just ninten and ana) because i figure someone out there is interested
Tumblr media
i preface this with the knowledge that MOTHER 1 has the most mentions of PSI in the narrative out of the three games (mother 3 can be semi-debated). that ALSO BEING SAID, these are children and i don’t think they have god tier abilities. this ain’t the x-men—in fact the closest kid you got to Jean Grey is 11 years old. so this is just for fun
ninten
moves-wise: i love you ninten but you suck compared to everyone else. in fact, he doesn’t like that people are much better at PSI than him (especially not some girl he just met!). maybe he goes through a phase where he tries to improve, but it’s just not in his nature (or attention span) to do so. that being said, everyone’s cooked without him thanks to his prowess in assist PSI. sure, he can’t light people on fire, but he can make sure your next frying pan swing hurts bad. the added benefit of escaping into the fourth dimension is something that makes him very unique (or in teddy's words, "a one-trick pony") and makes him brag a bit, because what is ninten if not prideful? it’s not too bad though, because it’s dorky! there’s a childish glee to it, like a kid doing a cartwheel in front of his parents. even lloyd admits it makes ninten look lame, but “he’s not one to talk” either. like ana, he does possess telepathy, but this is the one ability i hc him to surpass her in. i really do think that with given time, he could be a very strong telepath! i think of telepathy as a spectrum rather than “transmitter and receiver” because the characters do portray differing levels of what they can do; basic communication with animals being on the lower end to near omnipotence on the highest extreme. ninten is no god for sure, but based on what we see in the game and novels, he “receives” more than he “transmits,” which can lead to very disorienting conversations. it’s an added level of hyper-vigilance he must deal with, but at least it's helpful in combat and against police officers. i wouldn’t say it’s textbook telepathy angst, but more like “can you shut the fuck up right now im trying to think” when no one has uttered a word in the past 2 minutes. too much at once leads to snappy responses, unintentionally looking daggers at someone, and unbridled rage when fighting lamps. he's best left alone in times like this. he gets tuckered out easily, bc thinkin's a lot of work. world's eepiest boy after massive boss fights
Tumblr media
ana
like i said, she ain’t jean grey. buuuut, if i had to rank the most powerful psychics in the mother series, she’d be third to kumatora + her family and giegue. she is very disciplined in everything she does, only using it in dire or noble situations like her parents taught her to. in the game, she has a very good relationship with both her parents and religion, which is unlike many headcanons i tend to see.
they were both very involved, which led to her having near perfect control at such a young age. her father would preach about the responsibility she carries (because, yknow, great power) while her mother would find the best way to not let her skills go unmanaged. she starts off with precise telekinesis, fast healing LifeUp β, and manageable telepathy, but when she’s away from home and begins to learn more intense and formidable abilities, ana feels completely lost and shocked to her core. she hates violence, especially when she must enact it herself. with each new power she awakens, she feels a sense of betrayal towards her parents, wondering if she is straying from their teachings. worst of all, she fears over reliance on them the way ninten is (teleporting like it's no ones business). therefore, ana is very psychically repressed and mentally limits herself from the use of offensive PSI outside of battle.
she eventually realizes that although she didn't choose to be born with these abilities, they are a part of her and "God's plan." as long as there is someone to protect, she finds solace in being able to use them for the greater good.
Tumblr media
i have so much more to say but it's 2:51 am and i feel like this post is a bit too long now. remember to hit that like button and subscribe

The God Children of Ana Chapter 9: Opprobrium
The Locolichi king was getting desperate at this point for a god child that actually looked like a Locolichi. In a fit of frustration he went ahead with the creation of another child, even not asking Melalo for advice this time. Scientists aboard the space station housing the formaerem samples highly advised against starting another infusion event for at least a few days, but the Locolichi king ignored their warnings and threatened their livelihoods to get them to comply.
He paid the price for not heeding their warnings.
The infusion event was started on the spot of the Keshali moon they had used for the past few events, the most structurally stable point where the moon would be least likely to fall apart from the force. What the king didn’t care to notice was that the specific point was pointed directly at the Locolichi homeworld at the time, and so the relativistic jet created by the formaerem infusion seared part of the planet. The destruction was immense and the death toll was high. The planet even heated up and certain parts of the planet became inhospitable to life.
This was the final nail in the coffin that irreparably destroyed the king’s reputation. Nearly every single person hated him at that point and supporters of the Locolichi king became few and far between. What was once several retaliatory groups were coming together to form a revolution.
Tumblr media
The new god child created was named Lolmischo and he was put in charge of one of the two continents left that didn’t already have a god child CEO. He was the most disgusting child thus far, resembling what could be described as an eyeless earthen rat with the body shape of a seal, a trunk with a three fingered hand, and lips that could be flipped back to reveal nightmarish teeth, but his skin was what made him so revolting. It was red and raw looking and covered in sebaceous oils, massive yellow cysts and ingrown hairs churning with his diseases he generated. Spilt from his skin secretions, Lolmischo’s pathogens were all lethal skin diseases that caused everything from rashes that made victims itch themselves to death to turning skin cells into nerve cells and causing death via shock. The worst was the “Cyst Plague” where infected grew massive painful cysts across the body full of a flesh eating bacteria that would fill the cysts up with so much pus and gas that victims eventually exploded in a gory shower.
Lolmischo’s diseases were incredibly hard to avoid even in comparison to his siblings entirely due to his aquatic habits. While Lilyi was also similarly at home in water, she had to directly infect individuals and create patient zeros. It was how Lolmischo oozed his diseases that made it so difficult. Entire water bodies would be choked with rancid oils and pus when he moved through them, and a good chunk of these diseases were able to survive water treatment methods. Meaning that on the continent he ruled, safe water was hard to come by.
Lolmischo didn’t satisfy the Locolichi king and soon after he was established he underwent preparations for another god child. The King was getting incredibly desperate for both a “proper” god child but also a powerful enough army to defend him against 90% of his planet’s population as most of his military had abandoned him…
First chapter, Previous chapter, Next chapter
———————————-
This is probably the grossest and most “Bogleech” God child thus far.

Can't stop thinking how magnificent Umay Ana is.
To understand this, you need to know one thing about Tengrism: that is Tengrism differs from region to region and there is no universal one. Which means, every practitioner will have something to them unique.
I have been gaining information on Umay Ana from different areas and worship Her as all what I have found.
Firstly, Her name. In Turkic, root "umāy" meant "placenta", "afterbirth". So here comes Her one of many roles, She is the Mother Goddess, Goddess of pregnancy, motherhood, birth, children, as well as protector of children and pregnant people. It was said, that when a baby laughs, it is Umay Ana with them.
As well, as being the Goddess of children, She is the Goddess and protector of women as well. With that, comes Her role as Goddess of fertility and virginity.
Beside that, She is The Earth, The Nature. She is a Creator Goddess, wife of supreme God Kök Tengri, it was to Her hunters prayed, so that they would have a good game.
Some equate Her with other Goddess, Od Ana, which I do, which gives Her domain of marriage and fire, especially the fire that burns in the human soul.
The last I have, is Her role as carrier of the souls, psychopomp, if you will. On Her hands soul enters the world, and on Her hands it leaves. That's why, it was said, there was blue stain on newborn baby's backs, it is Her mark, that soon fades.
She is the first cry of just born child as well as first whine of a baby animal. She is the last breath of an old man, as well as last rale of and old animal.
She is the first menstruation, She is the little girl, She is the maiden, She is the mother and her children, she is the grandmother and her grandchildren.
She is the laugh of baby boy, She is the hunter, that returned from hunt with his new food.
She is the harvest we eat, She is the fields, She is the steppes.
She is your cat at your side, as well as She is a mighty bear, that could kill.
She is the mountains, She is the caves, She is the forests, She is the planes.
She is the first flowers waking up after the snow, She is the naked trees in the winter. She is the seed, that was planted in the soil, She is the most mighty trees, that hold the earth.
She is the old bones, covered in moss, She is the flowers on fruit trees, She is the new beginning in spring, She is the abundance of life in summer, She is the going to rest world in autumn, She is the calmness in winter.
She is there, when trans women realise themselves and seek their new place, She is there, when trans men realise themselves and seek new place. She is there, when two people want to spend their life together.
She is the fire, that beats inside your heart, that keeps you warm.
She is soft and full of love, She is the Mother, the creator of this world, and She wants us to love it. She can be both accepting, as well as destructive, as nature can feed you or kell you, as fire can warm you, as burn you.
She protects with bow and arrows, Her hair is long and golden, She wears three-pronged crown.
She is so many. She is everything and everywhere and everyone.
I can't stop thinking how magnificent Umay Ana is. And I am excited to learn about Her more.

Taylor Swift prompts! 5 for Anne/Aramis
#5 -- once upon a time, a few mistakes ago on a whim i returned to my old constance owns a small town inn au today and i thought what better way of filling this prompt than sharing an excerpt from the yet-unpublished chapter 5, "what happened to anne and aramis", which was meant to be a flashback sequence after the very dramatic late-night reveal that theyd slept together its very unlikely that ill ever be able to finish this fic, but i do love it so much.
For all the goodness in his heart, it must be stated that René Aramis d’Herblay has been, and always shall be, the sort of young man who very frequently makes mistakes. This is not his fault, necessarily, nor can it be said that these mistakes are those of the Earth-shaking, life-destroying variety. Most, indeed, are fairly mundane, and have to do with simple things such as his daily intake of caffeine (too high) or the average hours of sleep he manages per night (too low). But perhaps the greatest mistake Aramis has made thus far in his life is not his childish impulse to neglect his piano lessons at the age of ten, nor his impetuous decision to join the army at age nineteen, nor even the stubborn insistence that he use his middle name as his first. In fact, some might argue that this last point was a perfectly allowable decision, though anyone who knows him could testify that the René suits him just as well, if not more, than Aramis ever has. No -- the greatest mistake Aramis makes in his youthful twenty-eight years on God’s green Earth is that he never once takes his father’s oft-repeated advice, and makes nearly all of his decisions with emotion, rather than logic.
Now, it would be remiss of the narrator not to point out that this is not a trait inherently faulty. Indeed, a young man of Aramis's education and reading might breeze through most of his life making decisions that are blessedly the correct choice despite their emotional backing, for a strong ideological basis, borne of a broad and illustrious education, is generally helpful in internally nudging a person’s mind in the right direction. Aramis, whatever other faults he may have, possesses this ideological basis perhaps unusually strongly for a young man his age.
Ana Maria Mauricia de Bourbon is not the first to notice this, nor the last. But she is the first to take it, and tuck it away in her heart, in a way that precious few others have. It is here, then, that the narrator must take yet another step away, and point the reader back to that fateful day wherein the fae, well-meaning wife of their little town’s incompetent mayor was nearly brained by a ceiling tile in the middle of Monsieur d’Herblay’s second-grade classroom.
On the afternoon of the day immediately after this incident, Anne donned her most autumn-appropriate cardigan (a soft cream-coloured cashmere), swept her hair up into its most sensible updo (the one bordering on severe, which Louis had always hated), and slipped her smallest pair of pearls into her ears (these, Anne knew, were barely visible, and brought no attention to her ears, which she believed to be her most shapely feature). Having thusly prepared herself, she took a deep breath, clasped the delicate gold chain of her favorite crucifix around her neck, and walked the short distance back to the public school to check on the state of Monsieur d’Herblay’s ceiling.
Monsieur d’Herblay’s ceiling was doing just fine, and his children -- for that was what he cheerfully called them -- were doing even better. They flocked her upon her gentle knock at the doorway, clambering over each other and disrupting their daily Reading Circle to be the first to greet her at the door. Chirped cries of, “Monsieur d’Herblay, Monsieur d’Herblay, Madame de Bourbon has returned!” and overloud “HELLO MADAME”s, and, most amusing of all: “are you dying, Madame de Bourbon?” rang out in abundance.
“Oh, no, I am in perfect health, Henri,” Anne had assured the little boy, clutching her handbag with perhaps more force than she might have usually. “The ceiling tile missed me, you see.”
“Were you very scared?”
“I don’t think I --”
“Did you think you were going to die?”
“Marie, I really don’t think --”
“I don’t think you were scared,” had declared Suzette, a little girl more rolly than polly, who enjoyed wearing corduroys at every given opportunity.
“She is a superhero,” whispered Victoire in agreement, from Suzette’s left, only she lisped most of the word, for she had just lost her two front teeth the night before.
“I am --”
“She is indeed.”
And here, the narrator may say that Anne felt once more rescued, just as she had been rescued from a terrible head injury the day before, as the lanky figure of Aramis swept smoothly through the children and in front of her, somehow managing to usher them back into a bad imitation of a half-moon and relative silence without uttering a single word. Anne wondered if this sort of skill was cultivated, or if he had simply possessed it since birth. (This was not a sign of her own naivete. To be sure, Aramis himself had no idea.) “Madame,” his smile was soft but infectious nonetheless -- Aramis had many of these smiles to give -- and Anne found her grasp on her handbag ease.
“I simply wanted to make sure that everything was in working order, Monsieur d’Herblay. It would be a shame if any of your students were injured by more falling ceilings, you see.”
“I’d protect them with my own life were that to happen, Madame,” said Aramis very seriously. The reader might have realized by now that Aramis was very rarely a truly serious sort of person, but that this was certainly one of those rarelies. “I assure you.”
“Like he protected you,” offers Henri, from around Aramis's leg.
Anne, whose skin was cursed to be fair and quite susceptible to flushing, turned pink. However, she did not deign to acknowledge this, but rather cleared her throat and squared her shoulders. This was a tactic that she had picked up from Constance. She found it was a great help in faking sensibleness when one felt a resounding lack of it. Sensibleness was something she needed tremendously just then, as she was suddenly infused with a surge of reckless courage.
“It was nothing,” said Aramis, smiling warmly, but was gently cut off by Anne’s voice, in it an odd note both hesitant and hopeful.
“Oh, it was certainly not nothing. In fact,” Anne took quite a deep breath, “I am in your debt, Monsieur, and as such, I would like to give you a token of my gratitude.”
Aramis blinked, a few times, and then said, “Oh?” very curiously. There was half a smile in his voice.
“Yes,” said Anne, taking a step forward and lifting her chin. Carefully, she reached around her neck and unclasped her crucifix, and then held it pretty and dangling in front of her. “A good luck charm -- for protection,” she explained. “In case there are any other falling ceiling tiles.”
“Would you not need it yourself,” asked Aramis, though his tall frame was already slightly bent over, as though instinctively anticipating her next move of clasping the necklace very carefully behind his collar.
Anne was determinedly trying not to let her fingers brush against the tanned skin of his neck as she fastened the chain, which was perhaps why she did not think before she said, “Oh, but I am sure you will always be there to rescue me again.”
She straightened, bringing her hands down abruptly and smoothing them carefully over the front of her blouse; she did not break eye contact with him, but did flush just a little more, contrite.
Aramis, however, was looking somewhat entranced. The children were watching the proceedings with rapt attention.
“Of course,” he said, his voice impossibly soft.
Anne could have sworn she was floating. She wasn’t sure if it was embarrassment or something else entirely that she could not have for the life of her identified just then, as she had very little experience with these things overall. “Yes,” agreed Anne, although there was nothing to really agree about. She then hesitated, surrounded by the colourful paper posters lining the walls alongside the children’s macaroni artwork, as people like Anne caught in such situations are sometimes wont to do. “Goodbye then, children,” she said, her voice a little high pitched, taking a step back to go and once more clutching her purse.
“Say goodbye,” Aramis had whispered loudly over his shoulder.
“Goodbye, Madame de Bourbon,” chanted the little class. Anne made it all the way to the doorway, before turning back to give the class a final little wave and a smile.
And Aramis had smiled back at her, as people like Aramis caught in such situations are sometimes wont to do, and it was for this smile that Anne did not leave the classroom and put the incident completely out of her mind, as she had vowed to do so as to save herself long stretches of internal embarrassment -- but instead, not a week later, returned.
**
Once again, in preparation, Anne donned her second-most autumn-appropriate cardigan (a delicate off-yellow wool), swept her hair up into its second-most sensible updo (elegant, but discreet), and slipped in her smallest pair of pearls (her ears, Anne thought, with a small pang of regret). Having thusly prepared herself, she took a deep breath, tucked her most cherished copy of C.S Lewis’s The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe into her handbag, and walked the short distance back to the public school.
Anne’s faint little knock on the door was noticed first by the sweet red-headed Henri, who leapt to his feet in the middle of Reading Circle and declared her presence with great gusto.
“Madame de Bourbon! Madame de Bourbon is here again, Monsieur!”
One hand paused over his guitar, Aramis had stilled as he looked up at her from their lopsided circle. There was a look on his face, one that neither Anne nor the children quite understood, but made everyone in the room feel as though something was about to Happen. He was still wearing her crucifix, Anne noticed, and for that she took a deliberate step into the classroom, inhaled silently (she would later confide to Constance that it felt far louder than it actually was), and reached into her handbag.
“I was -- I brought you a book for Reading Circle,” she said (Anne never blurted anything in her life, but it was a close thing), and held out The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe in front of her. “Monsieur. If you need another one, I thought that the children might enjoy --”
Anne's words came to a stop -- not because she was the sort of person who faltered, but rather because she was caught off-guard by the growing smile on Aramis's face, the kind that started small and grew to be enormous, like the lights of a Christmas tree flickering on when the electricity is a bit unreliable.
(You see, here, that Constance’s earlier narration was quite accurate.)
“Oh, but this is brilliant,” Aramis was saying, scrambling to his feet, guitar still in hand (it twanged a little where his knee bumped it), as Anne managed to focus on his voice, a smile of her own growing on her face. He stood properly and strode through their now disarrayed circle, half-turning back to the children and then swiveling back to face Anne, as though he did not know whether to address his class or the book or her. “This edition -- I’ve been looking for Lewis for years, but I’ve never found this one again, anywhere, I --” He looked up from the book -- “I had it as a kid -- my mother gave it to me, but I lost it when I moved away and she -- it’s the only one --”
“-- With the good illustrations!” Anne finished for him, her own smile shining like one might expect a fairytale star to do up close.
“Yes! You’ve read --”
“It’s my most prized copy,” Anne admitted, a little bit breathless, because the topic of books was always an exhilarating one.
“Well,” said Aramis, positively beaming. “I’ve found a kindred spirit, it seems! Kids -- guess what we’re going to be reading next!”
Anne had laughed, a bright, tinkling sound. The children were all, once again, watching with rapt fascination, which was an important detail, for, as we all know (but most forget), children are an awfully perceptive sort.
“I’m glad it was a good choice,” said Anne warmly, and Aramis turned back to her, grin still firmly painted on his face. His eyebrows raised, then, as though realizing something, and quickly held up a long finger in the universal gesture for Wait, just a moment, for you might be an angel and I think that I’m dreaming. Anne did not read this far into his finger-raise, but waited curiously as he turned around and nearly stumbled to his desk, depositing his guitar in the desk chair and lacking half of his usual grace in his enthusiasm.
“It’d be rude of me,” he started, rummaging through what Anne identified as a battered canvas backpack, covered in pins and marker and looking as though it was on its last legs, “not to give you something back, Henri, wouldn’t it be so awfully rude --”
“The rudest,” Henri confirmed solemnly, nodding at Anne with all the gravitas a seven-year-old boy might possess.
“Un-for-giff-ble,” added Victoire, nodding furiously.
“We’d sack him,” said Marie, as though they even had that sort of executive power.
“Oh, dear, you really don’t need to --” started Anne.
“-- Aha!” cried Aramis, and held up a book. “Constance says you enjoy Shakespeare, Madame, and Shakespeare is certainly too much for us struggling students to grasp --”
“I could grasp Shookspeare if you’d let me, Monsieur d’Herblay,” complained Suzette.
“I shall give you Hamlet tomorrow, little bird,” Aramis said, very seriously, before turning back to Anne and holding out what must have been the most battered collection of Shakespeare’s comedies that Anne had ever seen in her life.
Once again, for a moment, Anne felt -- and, indeed, this time looked -- as though she might be floating.
“Oh,” she said faintly, “this is wonderful. I don’t know how to -- I’ll return it as soon as I can, Monsieur --”
“Aramis,” said Aramis, interrupting her. And, perhaps for the first time that day -- that week -- that month -- Aramis felt his face heat up with a blush, the sort that creeps up on you in moments of great excitement, where you have just met a person whom you think to be the terribly decent sort. “Um, you could -- well, Madame, if we’re exchanging books.”
“It’d only be right,” agreed Anne solemnly, and held out a hand. “It is very good to meet you, Aramis. I’m Anne.”
“Anne,” said Aramis, trying out her name in his mouth.
(The narrator must be appropriately dramatic about these little moments, after all.)
They shook hands, the beaming smiles still present (but perhaps a little softer), and Henri tugged on the hem of Aramis's professional teacher-appropriate cable-knit sweater.
“Monsieur d’Herblay, may I call you Aramis too?”
Anne laughed.
Small moments such as these are actually not nearly as rare as we may believe them to be -- such as these referring to the small event of two souls knitting together over a mutual delight. For some, it may be ping pong. For others, long walks in gardens, or contemplation of the night sky. Still others may collide gently into one another because their dearly beloved pets decide to sniff at each other’s bottoms, and for some, their eyes widen at the discovery that their coffee order is the same, down to the brand of cream they prefer, and everything shifts a little bit.
For Anne and Aramis, it was not books -- as one might expect after all that -- but kindness.

The Diazes Know the Future (This Isn't It)
This is complete and utter crack. Please do not take it seriously.
I've also thrown it on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/55094557
On the night after each of his children are born, Ramon dreams of their future spouse just as he'd once dreamed of his own future wife.
And Eddie, his beautiful boy, is going to marry a man with a bright smile and a bruise over one eye.
Ramon is not okay with that at first, but, by the time his son is old enough to walk and interrogate the world, he has accepted what will be. But he also knows the world will not be kind to his son who will love a man and so he does everything he can to ensure his son is strong, manly, and good.
Growing up Eddie shows no signs of his inclination, but this does not worry Ramon or Helena. They have prepared. They have a variety of cross-stitched flags hidden away for whatever identity Eddie eventually comes to them with--gay, bi, queer, or even demisexual.
So. Shannon is a surprise.
After Eddie meets Shannon, every hope and wish Ramon and Helena had for their son seems to diminish. They try to like Eddie's wife, but when Ramon looks at her, all he can see is a barrier between his son and happiness.
When they learn Chris, amazing Chris has CP, Helena whispers in bed one night if Ramon thought it was a sign. She immediately apologizes for the thought and never says anything to anyone else, but sometimes when their eyes meet during Eddie's long absence, he knows what she is thinking.
Then Eddie returns and Shannon leaves and Eddie decides to relocate his entire life with barely a plan and it seemed like everything was falling to pieces.
They just want him to be happy.
But then their son reaches out again. He is smiling again. After each call, Helena frets, wondering if she should apologize, but fearing re-opening the wound if she speaks up again.
Then they meet Buck. On Zoom first and Ramon loses his words for a second finally seeing the man he dreamed of nearly three decades prior. Helena keeps poking his arm in excitement while trying to sound normal. God only knows what Buck thinks.
And then Eddie says he'll be visiting due to work. Buck will be coming along, too. Helena gets out her old cross-stitch flags and fans them across the dining room table. "Which one, do you think? Should we frame it somewhere he can see?"
But. Eddie brings no announcements. He and Buck are friends. Not even dating. Ramon and Helena both keep looking for signs, but find none. When Eddie notices the framed pride flag on the mantle, he only says he hadn't realized his mom had gotten back into cross-stitching. He doesn't even notice it is a pride flag.
After he leaves, Ramon sinks down on the couch next to Helena and asks, "Where did we go wrong?"
When Eddie says he's dating again, they get their hopes up, only to be disappointed once more.
"Ana?" Ramon spits with disgust. "Why are all these women wrecking my boy's future?"
"He said Christopher needs a mother. Why does he think Christopher needs a mother? Did we teach him that?"
They look at each other in horror. Had they done this somehow?
"We will fix it," Ramon promises.
They start by letting Eddie know they love him and are proud of him. No matter what. Ramon makes a point of mentioning one of his friends has a lesbian daughter and how happy they all were she was getting married soon. Helena asks after Buck. Ramon asks after Buck.
They both wonder if Eddie even notices their fascination with Buck, or if he's just happy for the chance to wax poetic on his 'best friend' and spit spite toward Buck's girlfriends: Abby, Ali, Taylor, Natalia.
"He sounds very important to you," Helena says, faintly, after a particularly long tangent on Buck.
"Of course he is," Eddie responds, not even seeming to realize what he's saying. Then he tells them about his will.
They can tell he's braced for anger, but this? This finally makes sense.
"Sounds like a good decision," Ramon says.
"We know you've always done your best for Chris," Helena adds, hoping again that her words lessen the sting of the ones she said years before in frustrated anger.
"Thanks," Eddie says, but he looks confused. "Is everything all right?"
"Of course," they tell him.
When Pepa calls crowing about setting Eddie up with Marisol, Ramon wants to break something.
"I'm sure he doesn't need your help," he tells his sister. He refuses to out his son before he is ready, at least not to anyone other than Helena, but she's his mother and Ramon's wife; she's the exception.
Then finally they get a call.
"What's wrong, mijo?" Ramon asks after Eddie's attempts at conversation start and wither for a full ten minutes.
"Nothing. I don't know why I called."
"Is everything all right with Marisol?"
"Oh, fine. Or, not fine. We just broke up."
"Good," Ramon says before he can stop himself. Then, into Eddie's stunned silence he adds, "She was not right for you."
Eddie barks a short, humorless laugh at that. "Is anyone?" Then, while Ramon is trying to formulate a response that is more than just soothing words, Eddie blurts out, "Buck's bi."
Ramon pumps his fist, glad they're on the phone and not Zoom. Helena sees him and rushes over. "Is that Eddie?" she asks. "Did he--?"
He places his fingers over her lips to quiet her and shakes his head. 'Buck,' he mouths.
Her mouth drops into an oh.
"I'm putting you on speaker. Your mother is here."
He taps the speaker button and places the phone on the table. Helena leans over. "Congratulations to your friend, honey. Do you think he'd like a pride flag? I've got several."
Ramon can see they're abandoning all pretense at subtlety.
"Why would you have pride flags?" Eddie asks, bewildered.
"Just in case," Helena chirps.
"Right." Their son is skeptical. "So if Adriana or Sophia or I--"
"Yes," Ramon cuts in.
"Always," Helena adds.
"That's why we wanted you strong," Ramon adds. "People are not kind."
"I have no idea--thank you?"
"We love you," Helena says. "No matter what."
"No matter who you love, whatever their gender," Ramon continues. "You are ours. Always."
"I--oh, shit, I need to go. Love you!"
"You too."
They do not know how their words send Eddie's mind spinning. They do not see the automatic way he enters the 118 and slowly walks upstairs. Or how, instead of saying 'hello,' he says in an almost dreamlike voice, "I think my parents just gave me the coming out speech?" Because he's practiced that speech before, too, when Chris was younger. He wanted to be ready so he didn't freeze in the moment just in case.
They do not see the double takes his co-workers give him or the presses for information. They do not see how their son's cheeks slowly warm as he processes the phone call more fully. "They told me they loved me whoever I loved. Even if that person is a man."
Nor do they hear Hen ask in a too careful and confused voice, "Did you tell your parents you were queer?"
And their Eddie will laugh and shake his head, because he hadn't. But then, when Buck bounds upstairs with a too-happy smile, a stone will sink in his gut and he will bury his face into hands right then and there because he had. He just hadn't realized.
Ramon and Helena will know none of this until 36 hours later when their boy calls them once more and asks without preamble, "How did you know? I didn't even-- I don't--"
And Ramon hands the phone, still on speaker, to Helena who finally gets to use her years of research and she asks him, "Have you heard of demisexuality? There are many ways to explain, but my favorite is that you have to want someone with your heart before you can want them with your body. You have to share a heart first. Honey, from the first time you mentioned Buck to us, we could tell how much your heart reached for his. And these days, when you talk about him, his love of knowledge, his way with Chris, we see how much of your heart you've already shared."
"I love him, don't I?"
"We're happy for you," Ramon says, but he hates how lost Eddie sounds. Love should make people feel sure and steadfast, not at sea.
That's when Eddie tells them about Tommy.
"Why is Eddie's path so hard?" Helena asks him after they've hung up.
Ramon shakes his head, also wishing he knew.
Eddie calls more often after that. He hasn't told anyone else yet. He says he doesn't know how to tell anyone without it being a confession and he can't confess. He refuses to wreck Buck's happiness.
Their stupid self-sacrificial son.
"You could be his happiness," Ramon argues.
Eddie doesn't listen.
Helena sends two of her flags: a bisexual one for Buck and a demisexual one for Eddie.
She does not know how long Eddie stares at the white, purple, gray, and black flag after he opens the package. How he runs his fingers over the stitches like they burn him until he finally picks it up, clutches it to his chest, and cries because here is actual physical proof of everything his parents have been saying and promising. He hasn't disappointed them. He is loved.
She does not know it takes him two weeks to take the cross-stitched flag with him to work and hang it in his locker. Instead of coming out, he simply re-adjusts. He is demisexual and in love with his best friend. The world keeps turning. Some people notice the flag and he just confirms their questions with a smile and quick word. He doesn't want to talk about it. He just wants to let it be.
Helena and Ramon start calling Buck "your Buck" in phone calls to Eddie. He protests at first, but Ramon says he should have faith.
They're discussing another visit to El Paso when everything changes again. Eddie has them on speaker so he can talk while he cooks.
"Your abuela says you need to bring your Buck home with you this time. She wants to test how well he remembers her pozole recipe," Ramon says.
Helena laughs. "I still cannot believe you never questioned that. Even I had to earn that recipe and your Buck gets it on, what, his second meeting with her?"
"Fifth." The correction does not come from Eddie.
"Buck." That does.
"We will talk later," Helena says. "Love you."
And they hang up even though neither of them wishes to. But if this is the moment that their son finally gets happiness, they aren't going to risk ruining it.
The next hour is nothing but nervous energy. Helena frogs a nearly-finished glove just to keep her hands busy. Ramon cleans.
Their phone chimes with a text. It is from Eddie. And it reads:
'My Buck. Thank you.'
Helena slumps into Ramon and he wraps his arm around her.
Finally.

Abigail Cecilia Hernandez-Adler grew up in a crazy house. But not like you think.
The youngest of five children, she is also the only girl. Her parents' miracle. Not that they didn’t love her brothers. But she was an unexpected, yet adored by her family, miracle.
Walking towards her childhood home, Mary was chattering as usual.  She loved her adoptive grandparents, well really, her only grandparents, seeing as how Frank’s mother, Evelyn, wasn’t really in the picture.  “Do you think Abuela (grandmother) made my cake?”
“I’m sure she did.” Abby smiled.  Her “cake” was actually imported sweet bread with pineapple jam filling.  Ana could make it, but the local Salvadorean bakery had it shipped fresh every week.  Abby cocked her head when she heard the sounds of people yelling at the television, no doubt a soccer game on the screen.  “I think the guys are already here. Mami said the guys would be here but not the wives.”
Frank groaned.  “So, they are planning on killing me.”
“For what?” Abby asked innocently.
“You know for what,” Frank growled. “I married their baby sister without them there.”
“But Mami and Papi were there. They can get over it.”  Abby raised her hand to knock but Frank stopped her.
“Remember me after I die, love. Don’t fall for anyone else. Especially this asshole,” thumbing back to Johnny. “Be a widow forever.”
“Oh my god, so dramatic.”  Abby knocked and smiled. “Love you, Frankie.”
“I’m seriously doubting that right now Cricket.”
The door flew open with Ana on the other side with an apron already on.  “Since when do you knock?”
“Since you taught me manners,” Abby replied.  She hugged her mother, “Hi Mami.”
“Hola, mi linda (my beauty). Come in! Mi hijo,” she kissed Frank’s cheek. “The boys are in the den with your father.  Oh Johnny, Suzie, Scott, I’m so glad you came.  Oh, mi corazon (my heart),” as she hugs Mary. “You are getting so big.”
“Abuela! I missed you!” Mary hugged Ana hard.  “Is Abuelo here?”
“Is that my Mary?” William came from around the corner and Mary squealed, jumping into his arms. “Oh Nugget, you’ve grown like a foot since Vegas.”
“I have not!” Mary danced around, with Dodger prancing with her.
“To me, you have.  Go,” he pointed to the den. “There are some people who want to see you.”  Mary took off with Dodger following.  William stood up and smiled. “HI, mi hija, Frank.” He gave both of them a hug before shaking hands with the rest of the group.  “How was the house?”
“It was good. A little weird,” Abby offered.  “But it still felt like home. Frank’s nervous.”
“I’m not nervous, I’m cautious.”  William gave him a look.  “The guys are gonna kill me.”
William laughed. “They are not.  They might try but you make their sister happy and let’s face it, they are more scared of her.”
“Hey fools, apparently our little sister can’t even say hi to us,” a male voice says as the group walks into the living room.
“Mami! Isn’t it polite to greet guests as they come into the house and not make them go to you?” Abby’s eyes sparkle as her brother, Marco, blanches.
Ana comes out with her hands on her hips. “Marco, go get your brothers and come say hello to your hermanita and her family.”
“But Mami...”
“Now! Or vas a ver (you will see).” She reaches down for her foot and Marco practically runs into the other room.
“What the hell,” Johnny mutters under his breath as Scott Frank and Abby laugh. Susie shrugs.
“It's called La Chancla, or the sandal.  It’s a Hispanic mother thing.  They throw it at the child who annoys them the most.  It's usually Marco or Robert for us,” Abby explains.  “Frank got it once too, in high school.”
Frank unconsciously rubs the back of his head.  “Ana’s got great aim as well.”  His back stiffens as Marco and three other men enter the room. “Shit.”
“That’s a quarter Frank,” Mary sings, coming up behind them.  “Frank swears a lot and Abby is making him pay for it.”
“Good for her,” the oldest looking at bunch says.  “Hi,” turning to the newcomers. “I’m Antonio,” offering his hand to everyone.  “This is Robert, Daniel and Marco.”
Abby introduces everyone as Ana ushers everyone to the den.  As Frank walks by, Antonio stops him.  “We just need to talk to Frankie Boy here for a sec.”
“Tony...”
“Abby princessa, go talk with your friends. We’ll just be a moment.”
“Its ok Cricket.” Frank nods to her.  “Love you”.
Abby rolls her eyes and sighs.  “Just don’t kill him. I love him too much.”  She tosses her curls around and stomps out of the room.
Frank swallows as he looks at his wife’s brothers. His brothers in law. “Guys look...”
“Shut up Franklin,” Antonio growls. “Did you cheat on my sister?”
Frank is stunned.  “No. I would never.”
“Then the pictures...”
“Were a set-up from Weiss,” Frank said.  “He’s been playing this game with her all because he’s in love with her. Daniel, you remember how he was with her. But I would do anything to protect your sister.  I love her so much. She and Mary are my entire world.”
“You married her without us,” Robert said.
“I know. I’m sorry.”
“Are you going to give her a real wedding?” Daniel asked.
“As soon as the season is over.  Scott and Abby have already started planning.”
“What about your sister?” Marco looks angrier.  He was the closest to Abby since they were only about a year apart.
“The police are looking for her and Weiss. But until they do, Abby will have security when she gets back to work next week.  If I’m not with her, someone else is.  Scott and Susie have been great keeping her company.”
Antonio crosses his arms.  “We’ve always liked you, Frank. But she’s our sister.”
“And I respect that.  I do. But when Abby wanted to get married right away, I had to negotiate...”
“Wait,” Daniel stopped him.  “She wanted to move that fast?”
Frank nodded.  “Yeah, I could barely get her to agree to give me the day so I could get your parents out there.” The look of shock crossed their faces. “Did she not tell you that?”
“No,” Robert said. “I’m going to kill her.” Her other brothers began muttering in Spanish.
“Or,” Frank said, “you could have your revenge.”
Tumblr media
Once the drama of the Hernandez boys and Frank was done, which suspiciously took longer than expected, the entire group sat for the lunch Ana had made. “God, I forgot how good your food is Ana,” Frank mumbled with a full mouth.
Abby smacks his arm.  “Swallow and then speak, Adler.” She rolled her eyes.  “He’s rude but he’s right Mami. I have missed your food.”
“I’ve taught you everything you know, mi hija.” Ana smiled softly at her daughter. “All it takes is practice.”
“Don’t have the time,” Abby replied.  “Besides, I can’t do as good a job as you.”  She took a bite and looked at her friends.  “What do you guys think?”
“It's delicious,” Sue said wiping her mouth.  “So much better than some of the restaurants in LA.”
“Agreed,” Johnny said.  He saw Mary struggling with a piece of meat and reached over to cut it for her.  “You guys coming to the All Star stuff?”
Daniel replied to him, “yeah Frankie Boy sent over tickets for everything.  Me and the boys are bringing our girls, except for Marco. He doesn’t have a girl.”
“Shut up,” Marco said.  He looked at Susie and blushed a little, bowing his head in embarrassment.
“It should be fun,” Frank said.  “I’m in the home run derby this year with Storm.”  He and Johnny high-fived. “First time two players from the same team made it in a while.”
Abby smiled and kissed Frank’s cheek.  She went to reach for her drink but found it empty.  “I’m going to get another.  Does anybody want something?”
“Can I get another beer Abbs?” Robert asked.
“Sure.”  She got up.  As soon as she cleared the doorway, one by one, each of her brothers and Frank train their gazes on the door.
Ana frowned. “What are you up...” A scream broke through the house.
Abby came screaming out and right into Frank’s arms.  “Sp-spi-spider!” She screeched.  She buried her head into Frank’s chest and began to cry.
“Hey Cricket, its ok,” he sooth.
William got up and went to the pantry and walked back out with a giant spider in his hand.  “Antonio!”
“Maybe next time you’ll invite your brothers to your wedding, hermana,” Antonio said.
Abby stopped and looked at Frank. Her eyes became set in fury. “Baby?”
Her head turned as she looked at her oldest brother. “Did you put that spider on the beer fridge handle?” her voice was low and lethal. She got up and started to stalk towards him.
Antonio blanched. “Ok, Abbs, look...” he looked at his brothers.  “It was Frank’s idea,”
“The fuck it was! I just said to take your revenge, not scare her half to death.”
The distraction from Frank’s explanation was enough for Abby to launch herself at her bother and throw her arms around his neck and into a choke hold. “You dick!”
Antonio tried to rip her away, but she was stronger now.  Robert, Daniel and Marco decided to allow Antonio and Abby have at it.
“Abigail Cecilia! Antonio David! That’s enough!” her father roared. Abby let go; both were breathing heavily. “You would think that your mother and I raised animals.” William sat back down in his chair. “Abigail, go sit.” Abby sat back down. “Now, Tony, apologize to your sister and then clean all of this up.  You and your brothers are on clean up duty.” The guys went to protest but William stopped them. “One peep from any of you and you will get a whooping.  I don’t care how old you are.”
“Si, papi,” they all mumbled, throwing daggers at Abby.
“Abby, go clean up the back room.”
“But Papi, I didn’t do anything!”
“I don’t care. You behave like animals, I’ll treat you like one.  And Frank?” Frank whipped his head towards his father in law. “You help her but if she kills you, no one is going to stop her.”  The entire table dissolved into laughter as Frank groaned in his seat.
Tumblr media
As Frank and Abby got ready for bed, Frank tried to talk to his wife.  “Cricket?”
“I’m not talking to you.”
Frank sighed. “I didn’t tell them to use the spider.”
“But you told them to have revenge.”
“What was I supposed to say? Hey sorry that my wife decided not to call you before she got married. My bad?” Frank grabbed her and put her on his lap. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I love you, baby.  I’m so, so sorry.”
Abby sighed.  “Fine, but no sex for you.”
“But Cricket...”
“No!” She climbed into bed and turned her back on him. “You betrayed me, so no sex for you!” He climbed behind her and pulled her into his chest.
“Are you sure, my love?” He let his hand glide over her stomach. “You won’t let me make you feel good as a way to apologize?”  He grazed a hand over her panties.  She jerked a little. “So sensitive.” He kissed her below her ear.
Abby gave in with a low moan. “I hate you but you better not stop.”
Frank smiled and began to make his wife feel good. “Never, Cricket, never.”

All Star weekend is a chance for all the players to relax, if not invited to Boston this weekend for the All Star Game.  Most of the weekend was dedicated into activities for families and meet-and-greets. Frank had been here before, but this was the first year he was happy too.
As a surprise, Frank had new jerseys for Mary and Scott with his name and number. For Abby, he had “Mrs. Adler” on hers.  “Maybe later, you can just wear this,” he whispered to her.
“For my all-star, absolutely.” Abby smiled into the kiss as she put the jersey on over her camisole and jeans.
It was rare when two players from the same team make it to the home run derby. But Frank and Johnny were always the exception and not the rule.  Johnny had been laughing too much to take it seriously and dropped out after the first round.  Frank on the other hand was proud of his swing.  He made it to the face off.
With Bobby Fuller.
When was Frank going to get a break from this asshole?
Frank took his stance as he went to swing away.  Out of the 30 pitches he got, he sent 18 out of the park, with three sailing over the Green Monster.  Mary had been sitting on the field with the other kids and screamed in joy after each one.  Once he was finished, he sat back with the rest of the National League while Bobby went to bat.  With the last hit, Frank held his breath.  But it was short of the wall, giving Frank the home run title.  He had Mary in his arms as he was interviewed.
“So Frank, this has been a big year for you?”
Frank chuckled. “You can say that.”
“New wife, new team. Any other changes coming?”
“Not at the moment.  My family and are finally settled in LA and we like it there. Don’t we?” He tickled Mary. She giggled and ducked her head.
“You’re Boston, born and raised. How good does it feel to will the home run title on your home turf?”
Frank took a moment to look around the stadium. “This place raised me and my wife when we were kids, so it always feels good to be back. And yes, winning the title here is amazing.  I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
“Congratulations on everything, Frank!”
“Thank you!” He waved to the crowd as he carried Mary off the field.
The next day was the actual game.  Frank made a conscious effort to sit away from Bobby and chatted with Johnny and others.
Abby, Scott, Mary and Susie were sitting in the family section, enjoying the game.  It wasn’t so serious, mainly because it was for bragging rights and home field advantage during the World Series.  “Abby, can I have an ice cream?” Mary was bouncing all over the place.
“Nugget, are you sure you’re not gonna get sick?”
“Nope, promise!”
Abby laughed.  “Ok as soon as they come by, we’ll get one.”
“Oh, there is one at the top.  Can I go? Please?” Mary gave eyes.
Abby chewed her lip.  “Ok, but right there and right back Mary. I’ll keep an eye out.”  Mary jumped up and ran up the stairs.  Just then, there was a groan that when through the crown.  Abby looked back at the game. An outfielder from the American League missed a throw and Frank was running from first to second.  The crowd cheered as he slid into the bag, safe.  Abby clapped and then turned back.
To find that Mary was nowhere to be seen.

A/N: I know that "La Chancla" is not something that is exclusive to the hispanic community. However, "Abigail" is a hispanic basis character which is where this is coming from. I hope I'm not offending anyone.

Next month is the annual exhibitor showcase Cinemacon where movie studios tout their wares for the very anxious theater owners.
Tumblr media
It has already been announced that Sony is sitting this year out, so no info on VENOM 3: THE LAST DANCE, to be released October 25, 2024.
Tumblr media
While I assume there will be some changes to the lineup, so far it is shaping up to be:
OPENING DAY: International Day features a screening of Universal 80s series remake THE FALL GUY starring Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who has said in a recent interview that it is a small role) ; directed by David Leitch (BULLET TRAIN, DEADPOOL 2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DAY ONE: WB pulls up with their presentation "The Big Picture". It will be the first Cinemacon for James Gunn in his position as Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DC Studios.
I expect a song and dance from Gunn about how awesome sauce the new DC film universe will be
I'll believe it when I see it.
Sure to tease SUPERMAN LEGACY which stars David Corenswet as the title character, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
Tumblr media
JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUCE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
MORE STUDIO OFFERINGS
Also, FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
, the supernatural horror film THE WATCHERS, directed and written by Ishana Night Shyamalan, daughter of M. Night
Tumblr media
, M. Night Shymalan's TRAP starring Josh Hartnett, ALTO KNIGHTS with Robert DeNiro playing a dual role.
Certainly don't expect anything to hear about THE BATMAN sequel other than it won't shoot until 2025. There has been no reason provided, but some say there isn't even a script, others say it was because there were no soundstages available in London to shoot this year.
DAY TWO: ANGEL STUDIOS - The outfit behind SOUND OF FREEDOM.
I suspect they will tease SIGHT starring Greg Kinnear and BONHOEFFER (aka GOD'S SPY) about German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer, starring August Diehl, Flula Borg and Clarke Peters.
LIONSGATE: I suspect they will tease Guy Ritchie's THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE starring a pick-a-mix of men for all tastes - Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding and Hero Fiennes Tiffins
Tumblr media
; the action-thriller BOY KILLS WORLD fronted by Bill Skarsgård and costarring Sharlto Copley, Andrew Koji (who is working like mad), Famke Janssen and Isaiah Mustafa.
Tumblr media
Surely, another Bill Skarsgård film THE CROW with fka Twigs
Tumblr media
; THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1, which is the third film in the franchise - doing a bit of FAST AND THE FURIOUS mathing. It stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Guittierez and Gabriel Basso
At long last the BALLERINA has pliete into the spotlight. This JOHN WICK spinoff stars Ana De Armas, with Anjelica Huston reprising her role from JOHN WICK 2. It's direct by Len Wiseman who directed the UNDERWORLD films starring his ex-wife Kate Beckinsale.
BORDERLANDS, an action-comedy based on the game, brought to the screen by Eli Roth. Starring Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett, Haley Bennett and Édgar Ramírez, amongst others.
Tumblr media
and WHITE BIRD, which is in the same universe as the excellent children geared film WONDER. It was due to come out in 2023 but was pushed back due to the actors strike.
Tumblr media
UNIVERSAL / FOCUS FEATURES: I suspect teases for Dev Patel's directorial debut MONKEY MAN. The film was originally slated to go to Netflix but Jordan Peele, under his Monkey Paw shingle, bought it and took it to Universal so it could have a theatrical release. *Granted, Netflix does a theatrical release for most of their films in certain markets, but I get Peele's rationale.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their Monsters Universe theatrical idea didn't work, but Universal has realized there is more than one way to skin a cat. They are creating a Universal Monsters themed area at their parks and their monster/horror film ABIGAIL is a re-imaging of DRACULA'S DAUGHTER. It stars Alisha Weir, Melissa Barrera and Dan Stevens and features Angus Cloud in one of his last roles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE FALL GUY most definitely will have a place. Same with THE BIKERIDERS (with Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, etc.), which was a 20th Century (Disney owned) Film, and even though it was the first major film out the gate ahead of Oscars/Golden Globes' FYC season with a screening and Q&A held in L.A., the studio purposely stalled the engine and towed it off their schedule. It will now be distributed by Focus Features in the U.S., and Universal, internationally.
Tumblr media
Other possible teases? DESPICABLE ME 4, TWISTERS, the standalone sequel to the 90s film TWISTERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
, horror film SPEAK NO EVIL starring James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis
Tumblr media
, WICKED: PART ONE and Sir Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR 2 with Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There will also be a surprise screening; studio unknown.
DAY THREE: PARAMOUNT: Expected: the mixed live-action and animated comedy IF starring Ryan Reynolds, written/directed and produced by John Krasinski.
Tumblr media
A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE, GLADIATOR 2 (though this is a co-production with Universal, so maybe Uni will tout it), SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3, the unending production that is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 8,
WALT DISNEY: Possible: THE FIRST OMEN, KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES
Tumblr media
, MOANA 2, INSIDE OUT 2, DEADPOOL 3, ALIEN: ROMULUS, CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD and SNOW WHITE.
CinemaCon always closes out with their awards (which always ties into an upcoming release. Funny how that works.
So far the honourees are:
Star of the Year - Lupita Nyong'o (A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE)
Breakthrough Performer of the Year - Joseph Quinn (A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE)
Tumblr media
CinemaCon Vanguard Award - Amy Poehler (INSIDE OUT 2)
Director of the Year - Shawn Levy (DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE)

ROUND 3 / SIDE B / POLL 2
Tumblr media
Purity (@poicyss) vs. Selene Cromswell (@clovenhooved, art by Ana Luiza Garcia)
Purity info:
Description: Purity is a deity who’s main job is to just make sure nothing disrubs the timelines. She’s there to fix any mistakes that might change the way things “should be”. She keeps the world pure of chaos by cleaning out and filtering anything that may go wrong. However, since her job is mostly just to make sure other’s aren’t falling behind on their jobs, she has a lot of free time. She may not actually be a young god, but she acts like one. Her attention span has been broken by ages of doing absolutely nothing, so she has started people watching to pass the time. She loves people and the art they make! So she tries to make some art herself, turning some teenagers into Magical Girls and dropping them into a world without magic. This is like introducing an invasive species but worse. She’s basically writing magical fanfiction for actual people and forcing them to abide by the story’s whims because she is bored. She writes fanfic like a middle schooler, so it’s all needlessly edgy at times too. But it’s ok! She’s having fun :) And she’s so passionate and genuine about it all, if you tell her she’s doing bad she’ll cry. You wouldn’t want to make her cry! She’s so cute and full of joy and girlishly whimsy 🥺 But yeah she doesn’t get that what she’s doing is wrong she’s just having fun #girlswag
Crimes:
💖Introduction of foreign magic in a magic-less world (corrupts the world, fucks up the ecosystem and power dynamics of the entire world, will eventually have major consequences) 💖Introduction of foreign species (she has to make monsters for the magical girls to fight when there isn’t enough crime going on. This is obviously Bad monsters are Bad) 💖Mundicide (Read above) 💖General Manipulation (TECHNICALLY if you didn’t want to be a Magical Girl you could just say no… But she deliberately does research to find girls who she know CAN’T deny her. Usually this means scouting out children who don’t know any better) 💖Indoctrination (Read above) 💖Corruption 💖Psychological Abuse 💖Whatever Waking Someone Up From A Coma Counts As (One of her magical girls is a sick girl who she forced to wake up from her medically induced coma. She is not healthy enough to be a magical girl. But she is also Purity’s favorite, so she just forces the other girls to protect her with their lives teehee) 💖Not Doing Her Fucking Job 💖General Hypocrisy 💖Being so cute and nice all the time aww awww
Other notes from the submitter: She is an antagonist for a web comic I am planning on making and is SPECIFICALLY inspired by Drosselmyer (Princess Tutu) and Kyubey (Madoka Magica) so if you like her please watch Princess Tutu I owe that series my life
Selene Cromswell info:
Description: okay. OKAY. D&D OC. Selene is a widow of a husband that she killed in the pursuit in higher knowledge and gaining lichdom. She had one son, Cyrus, who was restricted in his formative years, being made to follow in her footsteps in perfecting wizardry. She is headmistress of a magic college.
She grew up in a backwater side of the world, born to ex-adventurer parents with deep cowboy roots, and was the only child out of her siblings to not inherit storm sorcery from her mother. She has deep issues with self worth and always wants to be the most intelligent in any room.
Crimes:
Tried to murder her father in a misguided attempt at vengeance -Burned her family’s home to the ground -Murder in general to get what she wants -Manipulation, gaslighting, blackmailing to get to the top -Killing her husband thru an…. ‘accident’ in the pursuit of being a lich -Terrible mom in general -Didn’t let her son leave the magic campus, causing him to burn down a building and run in the panic
Other notes from the submitter: a milf for your consideration………..

Bagrah could be a great, fascinating character if Leigh Bardugo didn't try so hard to victimize her and portray her as some sort of hero... Seriously wtf ? The narration in relation to Bagrah always made me cringe. In another version of events, I would have liked a less ignorant Alina to tell her the truth about being a bad teacher, a bad mother (now I want a fanfiction where Alina defends Aleksander of Bagrah) and just a bad person.
⚠️TW: Suicide mention at some point⚠️
Bestie, you just decided to touch one of the most problematic things in that universe. The matter of "We consider toxic, problematic women innocent and heroic".
Just like Baghra, just like Ana Kuya. A world where if you're a woman and you're toxic, then you're okay!
My own feelings of Baghra is that I just can't help but find her interesting. I can't help but wanna re-read her scenes sometimes. I don't like her but she's intriguing. There are times when I remember how fucked up her life was. Her father neglected her and her mother despised her. And then they abandoned her. Which makes me feel sorry for her. But then I remember how she had numerous kids from loveless matches and abandoned them all except one. Because this boy was special like her: immortal and powerful. She willingly condemned another human being to the pain and loneliness of immortality (and it's very possible that she condemned her other children to immortality as well, just like Ulla). She raised Aleksander with no displays of love, didn't allow him to form bonds with others and used emotional, verbal (and, very possibly, physical) abuse on him. Taught him how to be prideful, to abandon love, to value power. But when Aleksander became prideful and valued power, she turned her back on him. When he found a potential match on Alina, she took her away from him. Because Baghra always wanted him to depend on her for company and love. All these make me feel disgust for her.
But still Baghra was a product of the fucked up life Grisha had that made her value self-preservation, just like Aleksander was. The only difference is that Aleksander cared about the fate of their people.
And when Aleksander entrusted her with the training of his Grisha, she used violent means to teach them how to develop and control their powers. Even used their own phobias against them ffs.
And despite all this, we have the good guys not only remembering her fondly but also defend her:
Tumblr media
This whole paragraph makes me sick.
Look, I naturally didn't expect the good gang remember the Darkling with love. No way that. But why on God's green earth do they make him seem like a lunatic with no feelings that was at fault for literally EVERYTHING?
“Did he love the girl he forced to commit those murders?”
Ah, yes, of course. Because if a person is a murderer then he's also incapable of feeling love. When you're a villain, you can't love. You can't have both. It's impossible, Aleksander! 😠🫵
“What about the girl he tossed into the old king's bed for his own purposes?”
Oh right. Because Aleksander gave Genya to the King not to the Queen's care. Jesus, I forgot that.
Oh yes! I also forgot how Genya decided to stay because she wanted to take revenge.
“then mutilated when she dared to challenge him”
Me if I was the editor of the book, saw that line and correcting it: "then punished when she dared to commit treason against him?"
Because isn't that what she did? She was his soldier and let the Sun Summoner escape. What do you think he would do to her? Give her a sympathetic pat on the shoulder and say: "I understand. She's your friend. Fuck Ravka."
“Or the woman he blinded for failing to offer him unswerving devotion?”
Didn't Baghra commit treason as well? Didn't she let the Sun Summoner go? Does Zoya realize that if the King had found out, he would behead Baghra on the spot?
Also why is she talking about him like he didn't regret what he did to his mother?
And am I the only one in this goddamn fandom that thinks that Baghra got away with it lightly?
So Zoya in a few words:
Tumblr media
‘Who would speak for Liliyana, for Genya and Alina and Baghra if she did not?’
In other words Zoya: "I'm the LAWYER IN HERE!!"
Instead of wanting to feel love for the good characters and side with them, I want to slap them across the face. The amount of stupidity and arrogance they have is truly admirable. Congratulations for being douchebags, my friends!!👌👌
This duology has me like:
Tumblr media
Instead of admitting that Baghra was problematic and made many serious mistakes (which I would much prefer to see from them) they're glorifying her. They're painting her as a frail, weak and innocent woman that did nothing wrong in her life. And being abusive is not against her! Of course not. Because she's a woman so we have to let her go of any charges and forgive her. ❤️
She was neither frail nor weak. She could easily use her powers if she could but Baghra loooved to play the victim. And she was definitely not innocent. She was one of the reasons Aleksander came out this way and contributed to his eventual downfall in R&R. Since her suicide made him lose his mind and become even more unhinged.
And, finally, yes I would have liked someone to tell her how shit of a mother she was to her son and how she sucks in general. But I don't think it would mind her much. She would be apathetic and sarcastic.
