I was shocked to know that the mom of one of my brother’s friend is terrified she might be lesbian, all because she hangs out mainly with boys, they’re 10-11!!!! (my brother and I have a +10years age gap). She’s told another mom, my mom and their teacher, of how scared she is that her daughter might be gay, she’s taking her to therapy (let’s hope it’s an ethic non-biased professional), but this has been going for like a year and she just won’t drop it, she just adds more things why she’s worried, that she likes soccer and basketball, video games… and she says things like “she’s my only daughter, I don’t want her to be butch”.
Tbh I think the girl needs more love and attention, she’s much more open with the other mom and my mom, she hugs them and has talked with them about grades and stuff, before she tells her mother because she’s afraid of her reaction.
The other mom, my mom and I were shocked that a youngish mother would still think like that!! Both my mom and the other mom are in their 50s and I’m in my mid 20s, I think the mom is closer to my age than to their age. I can’t believe there’s still people that won’t accept their children for how they are, and she doesn’t even know if her daughter is truly gay, she’s just assuming because of the things she likes 💔
There is this pervasive idea (related to the "theory of progress" in history, which is equally false) that the younger generations are always more progressive, more tolerant, more open-minded, and generally "better" than the older ones. Which can sometimes be true, but not at all in every case, and not nearly as much as common wisdom would hold. That's why we're getting worrying polls about Gen Z boys and men being more likely to view feminism as "toxic" than baby boomers, that ever-increasing percentages of young people either don't know about the Holocaust or doubt that it happened, and other troubling statistics that show the result of years of propaganda, social media disinformation, fake news, big-time misogynist manfluencers like Andrew Tate, leftist antisemitism, and all the rest. So.... yeah. It makes for grim reading.
This is why, as noted, the idea of history and human belief only moving in one direction (from "less progressive" to "more progressive") is flatly false, as we've seen over the last decade in particular. Human beliefs are malleable, can (and often do) go backward as well as forward, are dependent on social context, and will by no means get better just because chronology has gone forward. So yes, a young mom could absolutely have deeply stereotyped and harmful gender/LGBTQ+ views, especially thanks to the social media culture that glorifies "tradwifing" and "cottagecore" and all these other concepts that represent patriarchal gender roles with a dash of Instagram Aesthetic and "free thinking" (which somehow always ends up as "don't trust modern medicine and don't vaccinate your children!") That stuff is absolutely RIFE, and plenty of supposedly more-liberal younger moms and women are eating it up. Obviously, worrying that your daughter "might be butch and/or non-girly" because she likes sports and video games is dangerous nonsense for any number of reasons, but it shows how this been almost as effective (if not more so) than plain blunt misogyny at encouraging women to embrace regressive mindsets and decide that no actually, feminism is bad. Welp.
Anyway, I feel bad for the kid. I hope your mom and the other mom, and any other actually supportive female mother figures, are able to give her positive affirmation, regardless of what her identity is or ends up being, because it sounds like her mom is going to do a number on her. Hoo boy.

thinking about it, was there anything stopping kusuo from re-petrifying akechi over and over until he figured things out?
sorry for spelling mistakes haha. if its not major I'm too lazy to reread and catch em all(™)
it never says he has a limit on this ability like that, so if he had been extremely determined to not let akechi find out, he could've kept trying different future outcomes over and over
but would a person petrified experience hunger and thirst while in that state? if so, this would only be possible a day or two without serious negative effects. but from what we've seen, im fairly certain everything about the individual is frozen like that, so I doubt so
of course there was people and noticing akechi's disappearance, and akechi himself nothing the missed time. but if he got the timeline right, then akechi would've never been even entered the room in this instance, as seen by the failed timeline where hes closer with his friends group. thus its a moot point, and making the idea of keeping him frozen longer plausible
considering how the other two espers came to know about his powers, it really makes you wonder why he gave in so easily. kusuo had almost told aiura because he believed its be inevitable, but when he realized his aura was too large to be seen up close, he forfeited, only having to confess in order to save chiyo's life.
toritsuka had found out completely on his own, and by the time he approached saiki, there would have been too many memories to erase them all with his memory alteration, as its stated he can do a minute at a time.
and, interestingly, in the manga there's a whole day between saiki receiving toritsukas letter and him arriving, while in the anime its the same day. saiki is even able to complete his psychometry on the letter. it actually makes more sense in the anime, though, as surely he'd have noticed his glove was missing before a whole day had passed?
anyways, point stands that family is the only people kusuo has completely willingly told about his powers were family members. and yet he gave in so easily to akechi.
something that's striking me as odd is when akechi revealed himself to be someone from kusuo's past, and someone who suspected him of having powers...he did nothing.
as seen on aren's first day, he could've easily had akechi transfer out or just make him stop attending.
sure it might've been suspicious, but a combo of forcing him to transfer out and some memory alteration making him forget kusuo was at PK, that he attended PK, or that he was transferred out strangely, any may have possibly worked.
or better yet, petrify and perform the time leap stunts much earlier, before akechi had such concrete evidence. akechi likely would've responded readily to an invitation over to kusuo's house, and he could've attempted to deal with the problem then.
sure its possible he didn't think about that, but with how covered everyone of kusuo's bases have been throughout the series, I heavily heavily doubt it. and besides, I think there's more to it.
one thing kusuo mentions being happy to have fixed at the end of akechi's time travel arc is erasing the fact his younger self told akechi about his powers.
he regrets this truly as a teenager, but his younger self was a lot more complacent about telling him, up until akechi spilled the secret himself in order to hope for kusuo's protection, but even kusuo acknowledges its normal for people to reach out to those who they know can help
he smiles like this after his confused face fades, and tells akechi about his powers. his younger self didn't have much of a reason to keep his powers from someone he viewed as a friend, and even showed MUCH less emotional repression imo.
but there was one striking reason.
look at how the smile on his face fades each time he recalls what his mother said. he actively wanted to show them his powers, not just akechi either.
his older self acknowledges that akechi felt like a friend to him, which is kusuo speak for he felt they were pretty close friends, considering that the main cast is still mostly classmate or aquintence level at the end of the series according to him.
considering how easily kusuo gives in to telling akechi after his admittedly extensive process trying to prevent this outcome...I'd say, honestly, kusuo still feels the same way about akechi.
he certainly tolerates akechi referring to him by his first name, and even though aiura does as well, im not convinced she'd listen if he even told her off. (tbh, his whole friend group has issues with listening to him, and his mom forcing him on outings isn't helping. but thats a rant for another time)
the day akechi invites himself over, its done merely to hang out, and kusuo is slightly surprised by this.
of course, even akechi has to cheat his way into staying, but kusuo is like that to everyone.
kusuo isn't used to people coming over just to hang out, as whenever the rest of his friends bug him, they need something most of the time. and when the two of them get into betting on the horse races over cake, as frustrated as kusuo gets, id say he enjoys himself. one of the last panels says as much
I hit the image limit, but near the end of chapter 266 his eyes have the sparkle effect they do when he's actually feeling emotions. its so sweet. and during the end of the showdown arc, kusuo repeats to kuusuke the the same phrase akechi said to him after taking the power remover. "I can still be your playmate"
overall, coupled with how easily kusuo gave in to telling about his powers, without even a single death threat to keep akechi silent...yeah, he definitely thinks of akechi as a good, maybe even close friend. even if he doesn't believe or admit it to himself, its true.
thank you for reading i got this in my mind after rewatching the time travel arc, hence the random anime images instead of panels which I can grab more easily as examples lol

TBOI Headcanons: Horsemen
Death
He/him
He’s...nice. Not a good person by any means but he’s the most polite of the bunch. Kind of strange though. Creepily calm, a bit sarcastic, and he has a pretty morbid view on the world.
Reserved and usually grumpy. He can be rather chipper off-duty, though. Putting up with the others takes a lot of energy from him.
Tired....
A bit neurotic but good at coming off as a down-to-earth guy.
He’s the most book-smart of the bunch and he’s fairly wise. A bit emotionally stunted, but he tries his best to be mature and make the right choices.
Death is more than a bit nihilistic and pessimistic. He has a hard time just... caring, mostly about himself.
Not to say he’s completely apathetic, he can be pretty empathetic but he tries not to act on that too much because if he did his job would have broken him by now.
He likes to think he’s got it all under control, but he does not. He’s more prone to pettiness and stupid decisions than he’d like to admit.
That being said he’s been pretty good with like. Growing and maturing though. He’s changed more than he realizes in just in the past.... decade or so ago. A bit of a late start for an immortal but hey at least he’s slightly less of a scumbag.
It’s usually not easy to anger him unless he’s really tired or something’s already set him off. When something does piss him off badly he’s a bit prone to freaking out. He’s not very good at handling his emotions.
Sees his own job as a necessary evil, because hey, someone’s gotta do it.
Interested in botany/gardening, as well as literature.
Genuinely nice- or at least polite- to the kids when he’s not supposed to be murdering them. He sees no reason to go out of his way to do so, especially since unwarranted cruelty towards others has only bit him in the ass.
Famine’s older brother. The two have always had each other’s backs.
Diligent, and always considers the logistics to things instead of acting on emotion alone.
Protective of the other horsemen.
Pretty short tbh
His horse’s name is Chili.
Famine
She/he (bigender). You can use both interchangeably or only use one set, she doesn’t care. Fine with they/them too but it’s never really clicked w/ him enough to be preferred.
Usually prefers more masculine terms (brother, sir, mr...) but fine with anything.
.Flips between bouncing off the walls and having no energy whatsoever.
Impulsive, she’s got terrible judgement and has the most idiotic of ideas sometimes.
Fairly easygoing, tries to forgive and forget and doesn’t let little transgressions get to her
Actually pretty damn sad. Needs some self care but never looks after herself.
I mean she’s optimistic and usually happy but like. There’s always just a bit of sadness, you know? He’s dealt with a lot and it’s definitely taken its toll on him.
Disaster Lesbian
Tries to be a graceful loser but she can get a bit more competitive than she’d like to admit.
Has a hard time relating to others and considering how they feel, at least when it comes to anything more complex than “bad thing happened now I’m sad/mad” He’s a drifter by nature, always onto the next big thing for a quick thrill.
Eats a lot. It’s never enough.
Plants and a good deal of food will decay if she touches them, or even gets too close to them.
Like his brother he has some interest in nature. Famine is more on the adventurous side, though. She’s tried to live off the land a few times with varying success.
Named her horse Frisk
Pestilence
He/him
Calm, quiet, but also a pessimistic jackass.
Always in a bad mood. I mean, he’s permanently sick with just about everything contagious and deadly. You’d be grumpy, too!
Surprisingly high pain tolerance. A good deal of his nerves have probably just.. shut down or something. Or maybe he’s just numb to everything after a lifetime of pain.
Sleeps a lot
Dislikes his situation a lot, but doesn’t mind the company of the others.
Lazarus is terrified of this dude. The other kids are mostly grossed out or annoyed by him.
Likes to be alone.
Fairly smart, but comes off as absent minded bc he’s pretty much too sick to function. He slips up a lot and he’s pretty damn clumsy
Probably the most rational of the bunch, when he’s not in airplane mode.
He’s also got a fairly strong moral compass. He doesn’t really like fighting the kids unlike War and Famine. Or just having to go up against people in general. Hell he hates the fact people get sick because of him. At the very least Pest has higher standards and is fairly transparent
But that isn’t to say he’s a good person. Yeah he doesn’t go out of his way to hurt others for shits and giggles and He’s Not Conquest but he doesn’t ever object to any of the shit the kids are put through and well. Yknow he still does kill them. He will also encourage some of War’s antics when it’s against someone he dislikes.
Tries to be as supportive as he can for the others. He knows he can’t do too much without overexerting so he tries to be encouraging and comforting as he can.
This compassion usually isn’t extended to humans, though.
Not very emotive, the only emotions he ever really expresses would be disdain and mild concern.
Not very fond of Conquest but they don’t hate each other. They actually work together well, too.
Friends with Mahalath. They’re pretty close!
His horse’s name is Moses.
War
He/it
He’s not very friendly, he’s pretty defensive and always on edge.
Out of all the horsemen, he’s probably the one closest with the Beast.
Lots of scars n injuries, it’s practically stitched together
One gold tooth
Impulsive, prefers solving issues through violence than through reason.
He can be fairly clever, though.
Intentionally angers/upsets others, likes causing problems and ruining things for people.
Desires wealth and power
Gets burnt out pretty quickly.
Emotional, insecure, and sensitive, and he hates this part of him. Definitely overcompensates for it.
Explosive temper, quite literally. Catches fire when upset and explodes if it’s more intense. Damage done to him also makes it happen. It’s not entirely voluntary but can be held off, and his “sobbing” sprite is him doing exactly that (but he’s probably also trying not to cry lmao). In the Ultra War fight, however...
Its daily routine leaves a lot to be desired. It wakes up, goes to work, then it goes home and just. Sits and rots.
Also, his diet is god awful. Please just eat a fruit or vegetable for once maybe you’d feel better goddamn.
He cannot remember if his horse is actually a horse or not but uhh he named her Bellum.
Conquest
He/they.
High and mighty sort of attitude. Can be very selfish. Stubborn, set in his ways. Gets defensive if you call him out or tell him he’s wrong.
Gay + nonbinary but in the closet (and denial) about both of those things. They’re trying to unlearn years’ worth of internalized bigotry.
Used to be worse, now trying to unlearn his toxic behaviors. But he’s still awful.
Doesn’t remember anything before their death. However they’ve held very strong Christian (specifically Catholic) beliefs all their life and they have a pretty black and white way of thinking.
Very cold and clinical. He has a bit of a temper but there’s a sort of calmness to everything he does even when he’s pissed.
Just as argumentative and aggressive as War but like more of a threat.
The others call him Connie sometimes, especially Death, who practically almost always calls him by this nickname.
Doesn’t harbor ill will towards Pestilence. They might have been overshadowed, but it’s not Pestilence’s own fault. If anything, being out of the spotlight has been good for Conquest, even if they do miss the attention sometimes. The only reason the two dislike each other is because their personalities clash.
Now if there’s anyone he hates that would be the Headless Horseman. Fuck that guy amiright
Very protective of Death. The two are close, Death is probably the only person who is consistently nice to him.
Utterly terrified of needles (hypodermic, not sewing needles, though he’s not good with sharp objects tbh) and medical stuff makes him anxious
Seems very... off. Just weird vibes but no one can pin point what about him is wrong.
Oh uh and his horse’s name is Josephine.

ANIME & MANGA I HAVE BINGED IN THE LAST MONTH: May 2021
I've Been Hunting Slimes for the Past 300 Years and Now Ive Maxed Out My Level: incredibly long name aside, cute af slice of life that suffers Same Face Syndrome. I'm still happy to watch it because of how feel good and fluffy it is though, Im probably gonna forget about it in two or three years tho. 8/10.
Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro: I found out this was a webcomic first and suddenly all the HORNINESS made so much more sense. A Femdom, Degradation, Humiliation, Dacryphilia Bullies to Lovers story disguised as a high school rom-com which, I'm not going to lie, misses SKEEVY CITY by mere inches on a regular basis. However, I'm a Dom/Switch and this entire relationship sets off my dom brain center like New York City just shy of midnight. So if you're into that sort of scene, this anime is for you. If not, it's still fascinating but you're probably gonna be a little put off by how mean the Girl!Bully is to the guy MC. Unless you find out something about yourself, in which case, congrats! Stay safe, sane, consensual, and learn about the traffic light system on top of safe words, I promise you'll have a better life in general after that. Still Ongoing, currently 10/10.
Fruits Basket: IM GONNA CRY I LOVE THIS ANIME SO MUCH???? The original anime came out when I was in... I think middle school and my parents were really strict on what I watched so I never got to experience the first wave and I never bothered to watch the show ever after I moved out of the house years later. However, now that I'm much older I honestly can say this is one of my favorite anime to date, and all the characters are charming, lovable, with their own problems that I can connect to or sympathize with, and I love the MC which is always a treat tbh. Except Akito. Akito can suck a sandpaper dick. I'm only on S2 tho so no spoilers! Anime 11/10.
Monster Girl Doctor: went in thinking it was gonna be a monster girl who's a doctor with a homoerotic assistant (her name is SAPPHY okay sue me for thinking it) and ended up watching the entire dubbed harem series. Honestly, I've seen worse and this one has consistent follow-through on interesting characters and backstory enough for me to shove aside the blatant under-monstrousness of the female monsters and the harem-ness of everything else. Dubbing is honestly really good, which is a treat, and the monster designs are not the worst and the MC is tolerable. Honestly, I don't mind having watched it! The mix of cgi and the traditional animation together work pretty strangely though, and it often doesn't flow super well. 7.5/10
So I'm a Spider, So What: Dubbed version which honestly isn't that bad. Took me a bit to get into it, but after realizing that it's got a mismatched timeline a la The Witcher, it made so much more sense. Heavily done in cgi, and you can definitely tell between the 2D and 3D animations, but not the worst in the world. I went in not expecting much but it ended up being an Issekai I can stand and even enjoy. On god has a decent story... with the spider. I'd be a liar if I didnt say I skipped some of the human parts just to get back to the best part of the show. 8/10.
Somali and the Forest Spirit: I'm so fucking nostalgic for this thing it makes me want to go and hug my dad. About a human girl under threat of being eaten with a monster-dominated world. Very obvious "humans fear what they don't understand" message but instead of the humans learning tolerance it's what happens when they get annihilated first so like, kudos for the mangaka for having the guts to do that. I cried like a baby regularly. It's really good, I watched the dub and ID WATCH IT AGAIN!!! 9/10.
To Your Eternity: Oh my god. O h my g o d. Fell in love on the first episode, ngl. About if an immortal being learned how to be a person from scratch. I love it. HOWEVER. Keep a box of tissues on you at all times because you're gonna need them. I'm only on EP7 because that's all that's out right now but just know. I love it. Not for everyone but certainly for my "what do we define as human and the human condition" ass. 12/10.
Those Snow White Notes: A sports anime without any sports. About shamisen playing which is cool because I never realized how cool this instrument was??? Its neat af. OP1&2 are by Burnout Syndrom so know theyre fire. Gonna be real, its pretty alright, but not extraordinary. You can tell they were using the characters as archetypes rather than actually characters which kinda kills a lot of the emotional value you could've had, but I'm still gonna watch it. It doesn't make me cringe as hard as other sports anime tho so I consider it toptier in that regards but if you're a big sports anime fan you might be bummed out by it. Every single musical performance is INCREDIBLE tho. A solid 8/10.
Toilet Bound Hanako-kun: THE ART OMFG IT'S SO GORGEOUS. Listen, if you took coptic markers and gave them an animation budget with some manga panel direction thrown in there, that's this anime. It's beautiful. Gorgeous. I'm in love with the aesthetic every second. Story? Really good. Characters? I love the MC and his evil little twin brother asshat. Demons? Not super imaginative but I'm carrying on happy as can be anyways. Dubbing? A bit shaky at times but I found the voices charming if a little off for some of them. I'm already waiting for the second season with popcorn at the ready. 10/10.
Prison School: I watched this directly after Hanako-kun and it was like I got slapped in the face by sweaty unwashed titties and some fedora wearing schmuck's piss kink. No character is likable or redeemable. I finished it, but at what cost? 2/10 and only because a character shit his pants and I laughed.
Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle: watched this right after Prison School and it was NECESSARY tbh. Its so CUTE and honestly, im not even kidding you, the fucking funniest anime I've seen in months. I watched the dub and the VAs are having the time of their lives working on this anime not just giving it their all but literally just going ham. Its great. If I read this im sure id be bored outta my mind but the VAs giving it a joyous performance make it an insta fave for me tbh. 9/10.
Sk8 the Infinity: i watched the dub with my bro and I can confirm that its a spectacular show because we both loved it and we have vastly different tastes. Incredibly SUSPENSFUL AND STRESSFUL for an anime about skateboarding but we finished it in a single sitting tbh. The last episode is not dubbed for some reason but we still loved it. Like if Free! was less obnoxious but the only fan-service here is Joe ♡ a beefcake who owns my lesbian heart. I think there's exactly one named female character tho and I legit couldn't tell you what it was if there was a gun to my head. So, over all, 9.5/10.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: I'm going to be entirely honest, I went in thinking it was going to be a boring isekai of no value. I was right about the Isekai part. It was honestly pretty interesting and focused on nation building like you're playing civilization rather than the usual "Get Stronger" narrative or "Get Some Pussy" narrative most isekais take which is delightfully refreshing. Granted there are flavors of that in this which means it doesn't alienate the big isekai watchers out there, but it's not the whole dish and it doesn't make me want to cringe the same way others do. You've got a slime MC just vibing and building a nation of monsters nbd. Does lose points for making the female monsters more humanoid than their male counterparts but makes them back by only doing perfunctory fan-service and nothing that makes me want to cry... except the butt sumo episode but in fairness it was all a terrible dream. Literally, the MC refuses to dream anymore after that. solid animation, decent voice acting, decent story, made me realize how HUGE this is in the Light Novel community???? There's like 18 fucking novels and that's WILD. 8.5/10.
MANGA:
Spirit Photographer Saburo Kono: a one shot special by the mangaka of The Promised Neverland! Honestly a really delicate touch of both super creepy and really touching, and I'm not gonna lie I'm bummed that this isn't a bigger project but the single chapter makes it a good taste for their style. I've been wondering if I wanna read/watch The Promised Neverland and now I think I will. 10/10
Deranged Detective Ron Kamonohashi: from the mangaka of Hitman Reborn comes this Sherlock and Watson derivative! Not even 20 chapters out yet with a sort of spotty schedule, I honestly love it even thought it's exactly as you expect. HOWEVER. Kamonohashi the "Sherlock" character uses mental pressure to kill all confirmed murderers and it's up to Toto the "Watson" character to save all those people before Kamonohashi kills them! It's just recently introduced a "Moriarty" family of crime lords (not a big spoiler don't worry it was obvious) so the tension surrounding Ron's past is amping up rn. Personally, I think the art is GORGEOUS, the characters engaging, and the story quick enough to keep my interest. Most mysteries are solved within a chapter or two so you're not stuck 20 chapters into one locked room mystery which is just peachy tbh. RN, 10/10. If this gets an anime, I anticipate a legion of fangirls who ship the two main characters along with their many friends. I've been alive too long to believe otherwise.
Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro: Yeah I read the manga after I watched the show. A slower build than the anime, but it works for the format, if theyd done the same with the show then I don't think it wouldve done as well. Honestly? Cuter tbh but just as horny. You dont start really LEARNING about your character until like, chap 65 tho and no real "drama" happens until like 75. A good chunk of the chapters are like 8pgs so its a breeze to get through. I love these slow burn idiots of the century. 9.5/10 because you can DEFINITELY tell the mangaka does hentai too.
Yugen's All-Ghouls Homeroom: one-shot by the mangaka for Food Wars, it's no wonder there's this constant perviness from the MC, a guy who can see and exorcise spirits. Takes place at an all girl's finishing school with KICK ASS monsters tbh, kinda bummed its not longer. The MC? Blatant monsterfucker who is also a CONFRIMED monsterfucker???? Idk i vibe with that single emotion. Everything else is hit or miss. 7/10 for monsters and cool concept, lost points for the MC very pointedly being okay with admitting he'd wait for the teenagers to be adults tho. Creepy af. Could live without that.
Hell's Paradise: I finished the entire 127chps in 3 days and I was really enthusiastic about it 90% of the time thinking about how deep it was and then I actually thought about it and I ended up being very neutral about the whole thing tbh. The art is fantastic tho, but DEFINITELY deserving of the M rating. Tits. Tits everywhere. But not tits to be ecchi over, no, monster hermit tits on beautiful women-ish figures. Now generally I give that a pass but a huge theme in the story is that men and women are "no better than one or the other" but like, lady tits are what you see 99% of the time. Men tits are few and far between. I call bullshit on most of the "deep" themes is what I'm saying, so it's like the mangaka was trying for those deep thoughts but missed the margin a little too far for my preference. That being said, the MC is a married man who loves his wife which automatically makes him my favorite character so like... idk so many good things, so many misses, but overall really spectacular themes and imagery. Unique but classic all at once. It's getting an anime and I have NO IDEA how much censorship they're gonna be doing but they're going to be doing SO MUCH. Oh yeah, and one guy is a plant/human hybrid who fucks a 1000 year old plant-hermit which makes him a canon monster fucker. And one canon non-binary character who I, a nonbinary, actually like. So like... gosh I've got mixed feelings. 8.5/10.
Choujin X: From Sui Ishida, mangaka to the mega hit Tokyo Ghoul comes this brand new manga!... Of one chapter, lol. Not really binge-y because it's just the one chapter out right now but I'm already keeping my eye on it. The grasp on anatomy in the art is PHENOMENAL and you can see Ishida flexing his art skill which is great. Can't give a true rating but I'm giving it a tentative 9/10 because I'm excited to see more.
Shag&Scoob: technically not a manga, its an ongoing webcomic I binged an subscribed to in one day and I just think it deserves more attention. Starts off funny with "what if Scooby Doo had a gun" and has been led to "what if all cartoons are aliens that survive and receive their powers by the humans that love them in an epic war with Martians." On god, its good. I finished the current series in a couple hours so it's a breezy read, highly recommend it. 9/10.
To Your Eternity: Yeah I watched the anime and then finished all current 143 chapters in like 3 days. GOD IM WEAK. I don't buy physical manga unless I know I want to remember the story forever and I'm already budgeting for the current books out. Yeah, this is a good series. That being said, definitely not for the faint of heart or those who suffer under common triggers like suicide, molestation, death, etc. It's all framed as bad and necessary to the story don't get me wrong, but it's there and has lasting affects on the characters. Incredible story telling by the creator of A Silent Voice. Keep tissues nearby at all times. 12/10.

I didn’t know about Diana’s bulimia and suicide attempts until watching the doc on Netflix yesterday and I really can’t imagine how William and Harry even tolerate any of the Windsors.
Tbh, I don’t get the sense that Harry DOES anymore lol. And now I’m going to indulge myself and do a whole rundown lol.
Here’s what I know about Harry’s relationship to the Windsors, based on various bits of gossip picked up over many years of royal-watching (as a disclaimer): Harry was once extremely close to his brother William to a codependent degree. This was probably the kind of “glue” that kept him close to the rest of the family as he grew up and dealt with various mental health struggles and what was clearly, from his military service years onwards, a burgeoning desire to “break free”. This closeness extended to Kate, who William has obviously been with for many years, close to two decades counting their dating era. These three were kind of packaged as a trio until Harry got married, and he was never REALLY an independent royal spokesperson for anything beyond military causes.
Fast forward to Meghan entering the picture. Harry gets serious about Meghan very quickly, William expresses concern that Harry moved that quickly because William is one of THOSE older siblings who assumes that everyone has to do everything the same way. Harry is super hurt by this as he and William have previously had each other’s backs over basically everything, including the infamous Harry Takes Las Vegas scandal, and a wedge is driven between them. Rumor has it that this wedge actually deepens because.... William cheats on Kate. Which Harry apparently was already pissed about because he really did love Kate as a sister + fears of history repeats with a future Prince of Wales, but THEN as the media already starts attacking Meghan, the Cambridge camp ALLEGEDLY begins planting fake stories about Meghan and exaggerating true-ish stories (like... Harry throwing a fit about wanting Meghan to get what she wants for their wedding turns into Meghan pitching a fit about a tiara, for example) in order to distract from the TRUE scandal, which is William cheating on Kate with a mutual friend. Meghan is pregnant and very emotionally stressed already right now due to the media issues and her father’s side of the family being garbage. So Harry understandably ices William out for this, and they’ve never been the same since.
Regarding his father, Harry and William have apparently always run hot and cold towards Charles? Like they’ll be super close at times (Harry obviously was super grateful to Charles for walking Meghan down the aisle, which was a nice gesture but APPARENTLY HOLLOW BIG SHOCK CHARLES) and then other times it’s hard for the younger princes to be convinced to do anything with the Prince of Wales. I imagine this wouldn’t be as much of an issue if Charles wasn’t married to Camilla, tbh. The big family photo that was taken with William and Harry and their wives and William’s kids and Charles and Camilla was apparently really hard to coordinate because both Harry and William didn’t really wanna show up lol. I’ve heard little concrete about Charles’s feelings re: Harry breaking free, but he has apparently tried to be Mr. Big Man by forcing the brothers to talk, by coordinating conversations between Harry and the Queen about all of this, etc. Charles wanted to par down the senior royal circle anyway when he became king--hence Andrew’s family getting quietly put in the shadows. (Charles knew the Andrew issue was going to be A Bigger Deal In The Future before anyone else in the family, apparently.). But I don’t know that Harry’s exit was.... how he wanted that go down. He also apparently clashes with William a lot because both of them want to swing their dicks around be the One True Heir. Charles is never going to step down, he’s dying to be in charge, but William knows that he’s much more popular than Charles and will be following him up anyway. Kind of a similar dynamic to the queen and Charles, but flipped in that the son has much more popularity than the parent.
The Queen has always favored Harry, and... though she’s pissed about how the exit was handled, I’ve always read shit that this hasn’t...? Really? Changed? The Queen loves a rake, is the thing. Andrew was her favorite child and probably still is, Harry was and probably still is deep down her favorite grandchild. She adores a military man who gets into a bit of trouble and is rascally. So I don’t think that the personal relationship with them is actually as bad as Harry’s relationship with Charles is--which, bad luck for him, because Charles is running the show on a practical level more than the queen is right now.
William is a pod person. This is an exaggeration lol BUT. Diana always said that William was an emotional individual and the rumor has always been that he’s very much a “burn me once and you’re dead to me” type. Which is ironically what Diana was. William hates the press; William hates the idea of Harry and Meghan coming off as more glam and charismatic than himself and Kate, even though that’s naturally going to be a perception to some when William and Kate don’t do as much press and Kate is a naturally shy person compared to the more outgoing and new age Meghan; and William has been heavily conditioned to be the heir and has evidently bought into all of that bullshit hook, line, and sinker.
And tbh, that’s not surprising. The heir is always the most “programmed” one. It might have been different had Diana lived and been able to continue keeping William a bit more normalized? He’s certainly not as fucking weird as Charles was at his age, to be fair. But I think that Harry had the freedom to do like, years of therapy and have his big come to Jesus moment about how much of this is just BULLSHIT in a way that William was probably a bit more prohibited from doing? It’s clear that William buys into this idea of a contract between himself and the public, where he and his act a certain way and in exchange he gets this bullshit title and he “earns” his riches and privilege by acting the prince. Whereas Harry seems to have taken a very “Diana post-divorce” approach. He clearly still values his privilege, but less so the titles and notoriety except in the sense that he can use them to accomplish his humanitarian work AND maintain that privilege. Like, Harry’s always going to be Prince Harry even if he isn’t formally Prince Harry, so I don’t begrudge him for capitalizing on that and making some $$$ off of what he was born into. Because he’s making money that way, and through Netflix deals, through the natural familial wealth that Charles CAN revoke whenever he wishes but apparently hasn’t, the money that Harry was left by Diana, etc., he is not obligated to have the same blind familial loyalty that William has. Which I’m sure has a lot to do with his break from the family. If you stay in, you’re basically making a deal with them and the public so that you can keep doing the smile and wave act to keep the lights on.
(And I will note, as someone who will forthrightly admit to preferring the Sussexes to the Cambridges--for years, Kate was referred to as Duchess Do-Little by the press, and William got some of that flack too. They do what they’ve got to do to keep those lights on and only since they started that little war with the Sussexes have I noticed a more concentrated attempt to win over the people. Because they basically got public love through popping out babies. Meghan notably did a fuckton more engagements before she started to recede from public life than Kate did in the same amount of time.)
I really do recommend the You’re Wrong About podcast again for their 5-part Diana series; the episode about her theoretical plans for life after her divorce (which sadly only lasted about a year) draws a strong contrast to what Harry and Meghan have been doing, and sheds a bit of light on what I think his feelings towards the family probably are.

I’m caught up on the Stand here r some opinions (OBVIOUSLY spoilers thru episode 6)
good:
Glen Bateman, Tom Cullen, Nick Andros, Larry Underwood casting/rewrites/adjustments
(Jovan Adepo deserves full credit for me not only tolerating Larry but actually liking him most of the time cause hoo boy I hated his guts in the book)(also!!! he played Teenager Michael Murphy in The Leftovers and it’s TRIPPING me out because he is OLDER than me and I never would have guessed it watching that show!!!)
(also it’s SO nice to see Brad Henke playing a teddy bear of a guy bc he is shaped like a friend but I’ve literally only ever seen him play absolute monsters)(I luv Tom Cullen)
dayna jurgens best character in the book best character in the series
I wasn’t sure about Owen Teague as Harold bc book Harold is overweight and pimply and kind of greasy and off-putting and Owen is skin and bones and good-looking but he projects creepy and sus very well. he is doing my boy Justice
speaking of, odessa young REALLY sells "girl stuck with a creepy guy who has an unrequited crush on her" like you can feel the discomfort and borderline contempt streaming from her pores
appreciated the rewrites of Rita to make her whole deal not horribly sexist and weird (same goes for most of the women tbh). Heather Graham did great
updating it to 2020ish works well. Glen vaping all the time = legendary
they did a good job of trimming and conflating some of the stuff so the story stays focused. things they cut MOSTLY weren't super important
alex skarsgård scissors stab neck smeared in blood sexy
J! K! Simmons! CAMEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
meh:
james marsden is fine (actually better than I expected in this) but he always fails to excite me. gary sinise in the OG miniseries was a better vibe for Stu and they should've gone for someone with more of the everyman energy. Marsden looks like a catalog model and doesn't seem to be able to bring an observable personality to his roles (sorry man)(on a more positive note this is why he was a perfect Scott Summers)
Whoopi Goldberg is a fine actress and apparently in contrast to a lot of critics I’m actually fine with her casting but mother abigail is SUPER under-used and way less developed than she should be-- we know literally nothing about her outside of her occasional appearance to scold and/or guide and that lack of personhood plays heavily into into the “magical negro” trope which. ugh. at least in the book she had a ton of backstory and family and stuff to do outside of “be the magical prophet for everybody else”
I love the whole Skarsgard family and am always happy to see one of them. that said, Alex lacks Randall's bouncy gleeful chaos energy and sheer malevolence. also he whispers all the time and I'm not sure what that choice is all about (no lbr that’s just an askars acting habit and outside of Eric from True Blood it’s not a great one)
bad:
not enough dayna screen time
pacing is weird and makes it really hard to get invested. starting at the free zone in Boulder and only jumping back to how they actually started/how they GOT to Boulder in pieces every episode feels really disruptive. not that it’s hard to keep track of, but it’s hard to really feel anything for anyone with such a disjointed narrative. the trip to Boulder is half the novel and it’s super important for establishing character dynamics, rivalries, motivations and personalities and if you meet these people mid-story after their arc is half finished and only get fragments of the VERY IMPORTANT ESTABLISHING STORY every now and again it feels like being robbed of setup and then payoff? idk. I hate it. I think they should have started at the beginning and gone thru chronologically, the story works way better that way
for that matter, playing all coy and mysterious with Randall and only showing Vegas for the first time in episode 5?? when the book has us there every step of the way? I don’t need a 1:1 adaptation but I do think following Vegas developments is super helpful re: understanding stakes and how much of a threat your enemy is, and with so little focus ON the enemy, it’s just not scary?
SPEAKING of Vegas what the actual hell. apologies for going “but in the book!!!” so many times but literally in the book Vegas would be a very appealing prospect for just about anyone. there’s electricity, there are supplies, there’s peace, there’s structure and organization. iirc Dayna is even tripped out on her recon mission because she makes friends with people and is struck by how normal and decent everyone seems? WELL this adaptation just threw that out the window and just went full fledged hedonistic sin bin full of just deeply unpleasant people that are more caricatures than characters. everyone there sucks turds. lacks any kind of depth. HUGE swing and a miss bc it hits so much better if you’re like “these are largely decent people lured in by the promise of stability, making moral compromises because they’re scared and trying to survive and Randall’s leadership is a huge temptation” vs “every single person here would roofie my drink and not feel a twinge of conscience about it”
every single choice made with regards to Nadine. badly miscast, robbed of the kickass witch’s streak aesthetic, set up as a consummate villain from the beginning (her constant struggles with her fate are totally omitted till it’s way too late for them to be in any way believable), relationship with Larry is basically nonexistent, and the planchette incident from her childhood is revealed much too early so it’s devoid of any real sense of horror (portrayed as a catalyst for lifelong villainy rather than a late-in-story revelation that she was set on a path against her will). done right she’s complicated and sympathetic at least until her complete heel-turn, in this series she’s just 2d and dull
randall beating bobby terry to death instead of ripping him apart with TEETH was a stupid change made to spite me personally. I mean can you IMAGINE how good that scene could have been

“you to me are everything.”
requested
BEING MARRIED TO GEORGE WEASLEY??? AND FRED IS ALIVE??? THAT HAS TO GO A LITTLE BIT LIKE THIS...
so george is literally the sweetest weasley, fite me on that
this boy has the softest smiles
of course, the most beautiful laugh
and a heart that bleeds for others
you are honestly so lucky to have him, tbh
and he grew up with a loving family, so you know this guy is in it for the long haul
fred likes to joke about how whipped he is
percy joins in
george is 10/10 that person to make breakfast in the morning before going to work, and leave you some with a cute little note
i mean, molly is his mom. george knows how to cook. and he does it so well.
and breakfast is his favorite meal of the day (you know it’s true), so i hope you are down to eat breakfast at like, one in the afternoon because he stayed up late, a g a i n
oh, and i hope you know that fred is going to be over at your house all the time
because he’s still living that bachelor life and definitely makes fun of george for having grown up on him.
he has a huge crush on angelina johnson, tho, and you and george try to not so subtly get them together.
but it’s okay, because fred is always polite enough to do the dishes before he leaves
which is good because, uhhh, george would rather die than do the dishes
he just really hates it
and can i just say that domestic george weasley is the best george weasley???
he has a lot of mom skills™ because molly would not let her kids out into the world without being prepared for their spouse, who is most definitely NOT going o have to do all the work
so he can sew and knit
although he’s not very good at the latter
he also has a lot of random knowledge on gardening, and the two of you grow your own vegetables together
as the two of you get older, it is your most cherished time together
and he’s handy with a lot of cleaning spells
although, sometimes the trick is figuring out how to get him to use them
promising him a kiss usually does the trick
also, george is happy almost all of the time???
he will be that person that sings in the shower
he will dance with you in the mornings
he will sit down on the couch with you and talk about the future for hours on end
he will make jokes across the kitchen counter and encourage you to share ideas you have for the joke shop
he gets sad, though, at night
but you will make tea or hot chocolate and sit up with him while the two of you talk about the battle of hogwarts
you will run your hands through his hair and whisper that everything will be okay while he cries into your shoulder
you will draw or write or read with him while his mind is full of dark thoughts
oh, and if you are with george, i hope you are prepared to be a part of the weasley family (which includes harry, you know), because they are a handful
arthur loves you to pieces, from the moment he first met you
he is so excited that george found “a good egg” and will talk with you about literally anything you are interested in. he is the ultimate father-in-law.
molly, on the other hand, needs some convincing because she is vvv protective of her boys
but once she warms up to you, she is the best mother-in-law you could possibly ask for. you can help her with baking (and learn a trick or two) or you can read with her
she’s been getting into a lot of new hobbies now that all of her boys are grown and have left the house
she’d love to have you over at any time
then we have bill and fleur, who are super nice because they had to go through this whole in-law thing first, and they have a lot of tips and tricks
then charlie, who is so cool to hang out with, but is hard to catch when he’s in town. when he is, there’s usually a big get together at the burrow and so you end up associating him with a full house with a lot of laughter
then percy, who is really a character. he’s grown to be less uptight in his later years, but he still tries to rise above his station just a little bit.
but he’s always good to tell stories. he gets lost in menial details sometimes, but he does great, overall.
if you ever want an account of what any of the weasleys were like years ago, it’s him you go to.
he should really start scrapbooking, tbh.
then theres fred, who loves you like crazy, and always pretends to be george for laughs, but really likes how good you are for his brother deep down
btw, he’s a sappy drunk, so if you get him enough firewhiskey...
then we have ron, who is really just astounded that george picked up someone as kind as you. he gives you your space, mostly, but definitely goes to you for advice
we finally get a girl in with ginny, and she is honestly the one who is the most intimidating, she get’s it from he mom. the relief is, though, that she knows what she likes, and she liked you early on.
she maybe makes joking threats about what she would do if you hurt her brother, though, which used to set you on edge in the beginning.
and, at the end of it all, we have harry.
he is honestly such a pal. i mean, he’s the one you can go too if you ever need a break from the crazy. he’s gotten really good at knowing how to balance life with the weasleys, as he is a fellow outsider, fleur included.
the three of you are pretty good friends.
okay, but back to george!
this man??? he loves affection.
please hold his hand !!! he loves the way your hand fits with his.
and give him kisses on the cheek!!!
bonus points if you have to stretch up or lean down to do so
he likes to kiss you on the neck when you guys are cuddling
he just feels so at home when the two of you are close together.
but, uhh, i hope you know that george is rotten at doing laundry.
it’s his longest, most hated enemy.
he also really hates cleaning the bathroom.
and he leaves his stuff everywhere, it’s a habit of his that dies hard.
but i hope you know that if you tolerate him, he will do anything for you.
he is 10/10 that person to write you letters because he’s not so great with words in the moment.
and he will tell you, again and again that he would do anything and everything for you, all you have to do is ask
AND FLUFF ENSUES.

@whitecrowns-blackthrones said: ♛ -places my URL gently-

My opinion on:
- character in general: Ok, so there’s a lot of muses over on this blog! It would be a challenge to talk about every single one, especially as Sonia has only met a few of them so far. But what I really appreciate is how many different types of royal families, countries, and lives Rose has drawn from for her many, many kingdoms that make up her muses’ world. Some FCs and inspirations are ones I recognize, either from history or historical-inspired media, but others are completely new to me and it’s a great introduction to cultures and monarchies I’m less familiar with. I’m a big fan of royalty in real life and in media (look no further than my blog, tbh! Part of the fun of writing Sonia is bringing in real world royal problems, contemporary or past, into Novoselic and her life), but I admit I’m more familiar with some families and countries than others. And while Rose puts her on spin on all of her monarchies, I can still see what inspired them and it encourages me to check out their respective countries, series, FCs, etc. I hope that made sense!
- how they play them: I think all of the muses here are written with a lot of research, humor, and heart. Admittedly we don’t have a lot of threads together yet, or at least not a lot of very long threads as Sonia’s still getting to know most of the muses over here, but there’s a lot of care in making each kingdom distinguished in their royal families, nobility, and the problems and goals they each face.
- the mun: We’ve talked a little OOC for plotting and just yelling about our muses, but Rose has been very nice and engaging to speak to so far! Maybe we should do some more for future threads and ideas.
Do I:
- follow them: I do!
- rp with them: We currently have a few interactions going, I think? I’m not sure how many threads/interactions are current right now but I’m happy to plot and/or start new ones.
- want to rp with them: Yes, of course!
- ship their character with mine: Again, there’s a lot of muses over here so there’s plenty of different types of relationships! I see Sonia and Ann being fast friends, and if/once she learns about Tyler, Sonia will absolutely try to set up meetings for them and pretty much be their wingwoman. Sonia will insist she’s good friends with Sue though I doubt the latter would agree, though Sonia would try to have a treat or toy for Baskerville whenever she comes to visit. Bonus if Sue’s pet rips the toy to shreds in front of Sonia: the Princess of Novoselic would be so proud with how ferocious he is. And I see her taking Johanna Bexley under her wing like a younger sister, ward, or a younger friend in need of support and guidance (while her older sister Vivien grows annoyed).
Romantically, we haven’t explored much between Sonia and the various royal/aristocratic muses over here beyond an arranged marriage AU between Sonia and Slane, and even then Sonia’s not one to marry at all unless it’s a love match. Based on previous arranged marriage AUs, that’s much harder to do when she’s told she has to marry someone. Nevertheless, they both like to read and are very sharp, smart people, so they’d likely bond over that (if Slane can tolerate her incessantly cheerful mood and interest in gothic and occult everything).
That being said, pretty much any ship with Sonia in a somewhat-historical verse would have to be between her and someone who isn’t directly in line for a throne or title, so a second-born child (probably a son too, considering a historical verse) or a first-born willing to abdicate. Sonia herself would never do so, based on what would happen to the throne if she did. She very much wants a partner, someone she can talk to and share common interests with versus someone simply there to do whatever she asks. She’d never consider anyone who saw her as a royal first and a person second.
Just going by muse descriptions, I could possibly see Spencer Bexley trying to endear himself to Sonia but she wouldn’t be having any of it, and instead might have more to share and talk about with Hunter. She has the mandatory military training background and she’s rather good at it, but she’s also quite clever and well-read too.
All that is to say: I don’t know who to ship Sonia with out of these muses yet but I’m open to ideas.
What is my:
- overall opinion: A broad variety of muses with various personalities, interests, and goals, and with plenty of Royal People Problems! We haven’t done a lot of storyline/character building yet but I’m hoping we will soon. But in the meantime it’s fun reading various interactions and dash commentary, and I love the various aesthetics posts that are shared. I’m tempted to share quite a few of them to my own blog!

So I finished reading the second book of Wheel of Time yesterday, literally years after the first one since I didn’t *like* the first one. But between my tastes changing somewhat and becoming such a big fan of Brandon Sanderson that I kinda wanted to read WoT just to get to his part anyway, I went at it again.
Here are my thoughts.
First, some general stuff:
One’s opinion of this series probably depends almost entirely on one’s tolerance and/or fondness for dumbasses, because almost none of these characters have braincells
Tolerance for length/slow pace helps too
There’s also that whole strict gender binary thing, although it is less gender *essentialist* than I remembered—a lot of these characters break stereotypes left and right. But in this series you are either A Man or A Woman, and magic Knows This
Speaking of that it’s pretty ironic that the One Power is named what it is when there are like, a lot of other available magic powers out there. Like wolves, and seeing fate.
Below the cut I’m going to talk about character impressions/where I think their arcs are going from here. While I have seen some spoilers here and there around the Internet, please don’t reply to me with any!
Rand
So our first character is Rand. Who is so, so stupid. (And hopefully not named for Ayn Rand.) He spends literally this entire book running away at full speed from like, anything that might even imply he’s vaguely important
Which is everything, because HE’S THE CHOSEN ONE
The amount of plot shenanigans with the ‘worlds that might be’ that it took to make him actually channel....
He doesn’t func, guys
And pathologically distrusts one of the only people (Moiraine) who’s actually on his side
I’m looking forward to where he goes from here though, especially due to that moment with Ingtar and being so convinced anyone can come back to the light/be redeemed
Egwene
The only truly relatable character in this book
Her reaction to having magic powers is “oh worm, let me dive into this at terminal velocity”
Which like. Same.
Everything is terminal velocity with her. According to the sortinghatchats system, she would definitely be a gryffindor secondary.
She also went through a few chapters’ worth of torture porn and now is totally willing to kill some folks
One of the few spoilers I HAVE seen is that Rand ends up polyamorously with a few women, but (due in part to another spoiler), I’m pretty sure Egwene isn’t going to be one of them? Which honestly makes her more interesting tbh
Moiraine
Possessor of one of the only brain cells in the whole book
But literally doesn’t know how to not come across as scheming, because she IS scheming 24/7. But like, for Good.
I really like her and hope she doesn’t end up so mentor-coded that she dies
Perrin
He’s a furry, and I say FURRY RIGHTS
(The whitecloaks, however, do not say furry rights)
He’s also a fan of running away from things, but not as much as Rand
He’s not my favorite, but he could go somwhere interesting
Mat
Is the rescue-bait for most of this book, an unusual but exciting look in an Edgy Male Teenager
Also has no brain cells, as evidenced by sounding the gd horn
Like omg dude. Did you really. (He did really.)
Nynaeve
Almost definitely going to become one of the most powerful people on the planet
Gods, that scene with the arches where she just. She JUST. The horrifying but awesome realization as she *summons back the arch with will alone* that she ABSOLUTELY SHOULDNT BE ABLE TO DO THAT
Just, ungodly powerful
But her power is fueled almost exclusively by RAGE
(Which she has a lot of.)
Occasional holder of one of the only braincells, but only occasionally
I’m still kinda annoyed that she hates Moiraine tho
Elayne
99.99% convinced she’s gonna be one of the women who gets with Rand
She was in the first book I guess but I totally don’t remember her from it
I don’t feel like I know much about her yet? Beyond “thank goodness Egwene has a friend”
Is probably gonna end up cool???
Min
80% convinced she’s getting with Rand
Also was in the first book tho I don’t remember her
Maybe has a braincell????
(Looks at friend basically dying in front of her) “I prefer older men”
She just says that!!!
Probably a legend for that if nothing else
Lan
I think I’ve heard he’s a fan favorite but idg why
Barely in this book tho, so maybe I’ll need to see more of him? But honestly I don’t care too much about this stoic man who has never had an emotional maturity in his life
Loial
Is there
Actually steadfast friend of Rand who Rand *trusts*, which is a miracle in and of itself
I kinda have the same feelings about him as I do about Perrin, which is to say, “ok I guess but I’m not writing him off”
Selene/Lanfear
Totally called her being Lanfear
I’m almost completely convinced that she’s either going to be grey-morality, evil but sympathetic, or outright redeemed
Which is EXCITING because I don’t know WHICH
Probably actually IS on Rand’s side??? For what that’s worth when he’s such an, uh, multivalent chosen one
“You’re the only thing that can defeat Satan but also you’re probably lowkey doomed to destroy the world”
(Yes, for those of you playing along at home, the villain is Just Satan. Or Shai’tan, as he’s called in these books)
Anyway this moved off track from the Selene thing so I’ll leave off with this parting note about her-
Hot demons are VALID

(//Britney Spears Voice// Oops I Did it Again)
I was thinking about Sero having siblings which made me think about class 1a and like,, how few of them have canon siblings? & then I was like “well hmm, who has siblings in canon and who do I feel like SHOULD have siblings?” which has NOW spiraled to “whole family dynamic” so. Here’s this (note that I’m not gonna subtract people from families who already canonically exist like however much I’d like to launch End**v*r into the sun this is less “I rewrote things how I’d like them to be” and more “how many of these kids do I think should have siblings and if their parents aren’t developed what do I think they’re like”).
Midoriya: We already know he does not have siblings and tbh even if we didn’t know I’d still think he doesn’t. He absolutely has Only Child Who’s Kinda Lonely And Wanted A Sibling But Never Got One vibes. Also we know he has a single mom and a dad who’s not really in the picture (sidenote I love Inko Midoriya even though she failed Izuku in the past by not believing in him she loves her son so much and is trying her hardest to make up for it and do what’s best for him). I feel like her husband is like,,, not straight up the worst person ever like he’s not abusive but he’s not particularly interested in his family anymore?? Like he pays his child support but doesn’t make any effort to talk to his wife and son? He’d get divorced but he doesn’t want to go through the hassle of that legal process, especially since he’s living on a whole separate continent & would either have to go back to Japan for the legal proceedings or do it from there which would be challenging & he’s “far too busy” to do that
Bakugou: He doesn’t have siblings in canon but he does kinda give off Middle Child In A House With Lots Of Children vibes...that inferiority/superiority complex tho...oh either that or Oldest Child In A House With Lots Of Children vibes...but yeah consider middle child Bkg. Like...maybe 5-6 Bakugou children and he’s either smack dab in the middle or 3rd oldest depending if he has 4 or 5 siblings. Also it’s pretty obvious that Mitsuki’s not a good mom & Masaru is not rlly willing to stand up to her but unfortunately I can’t change that cause I said I wouldn’t mess with existing family members :/ maybe I shouldn’t give him more siblings after all, for their sake...
Todoroki: We know the todofam dynamic already. Tbh idk what kinda vibes he’d give me if I didn’t already know he had siblings, but since I know that he has siblings in canon it makes sense that he’s a youngest child (also sidenote I LOVE the Todorokisibs & I want them to have the time to bond and become like,,, real, close siblings. Also #givereiadivorce2k20). I hope someone yeets Endumpster out of existence one of these days...fingers crossed
Iida: It’s canon that he has a brother and it’s so sweet how much he admires and loves him Iida ily. Again it makes sense that he’s a youngest child; his need to be “worthy of” his brother’s legacy is rlly apparent, & feels like a total youngest sibling trait. Tbh if I didn’t know he had a brother I could also see him as an only child but I’m glad he has Tensei. I feel like his parents are hardworking but make sure to make time for their children as much as they can & make sure they know they’re loved. Iida kinda also considers some of the heroes/sidekicks who work at the Idaten agency family since they’ve been around so much during his childhood & he knows them pretty well. Also since Tensei is friends with Aizawa and Yamada they were definitely Tenya’s babysitters at least a couple times & around the house a lot so he considers them kinda like uncles or something
Uraraka: I know she doesn’t have siblings in canon but it feels like she should. She gives off big sister vibes. Like she’s canonically becoming a hero for her parents, and I think that would be even better if she also had siblings (all younger than her. At least 2 siblings, maybe 3). I want to see Uraraka with siblings @ Horikoshi why did you deprive us of this? Also we know her parents work hard and love her which I love I’m so glad SOMEONE in class 1a canonically has 2 good supportive parents
Tsuyu: We already know she has two siblings and yes she also has Big Sister Vibes. Don’t have much to explain abt this one, she’s just mature and dependable in like the Older Sister Specific Way (not that all older sisters are mature and dependable, just that there’s a kind of mature and dependable that directly comes from being an older sister specifically). I feel like her parents love her and her siblings & taught them to be truthful & stuff but are kinda quiet and reserved with their affection, and they’re often busy with their jobs so Tsuyu had to take on some extra responsibility caring for her siblings
Yaoyorozu: She’s an only child and yeah, it makes sense. Her parents only have one child to focus on, and as such it’s pretty obvious she feels the full pressure of their expectations, giving her pretty obvious Only Child Vibes. Although I guess you could also look at it as youngest child vibes cause I could just as easily see her having a bunch of talented successful older siblings/one Really Talented Older Sibling so she feels the pressure in following in their footsteps (think either Daphne from scooby doo mystery incorporated or Tahani Al-Jamil from the good place except she doesn’t necessarily hate/resent her siblings but is just kinda insecure about her “worth” compared to them. This is where the second guessing she suddenly displays in canon could come in - correct me if I’m wrong but she didn’t rlly show signs of second-guessing herself until the sports festival? So she’s fine in class where nobody rlly knows her but once she’s at the sports festival which is nationally televised she starts to doubt herself because her parents and sister(s) are watching & she’s like “oh no what if my sister(s) would be better than me at this” so that’s why she suddenly loses confidence). I kinda implied before but I feel like her parents are pretty strict & have high expectations for her & while they’re not needlessly cruel, they won’t tolerate less than the best
Jirou: Pretty sure she has no siblings in canon BUT she TOTALLY gives off youngest sibling vibes. I’m thinking she’d have like a cool older brother who likes to embarrass her. Her parents are pretty chill (I think that part’s kinda canon?). She has lots of older cousins who she’s pretty close with and one bad*ss lesbian aunt who’s pretty much her role model (Jirou when she was younger: I wanna be just like my aunt!!! Jirou now: ah. That’s why. I also like girls.)
Kirishima: Again I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have siblings in canon and as for whether I think he gives off sibling vibes??? I’m not entirely sure. I was gonna say I don’t think so cause like. He gives off vibes that he’d be good with siblings but doesn’t actually have them, kinda like Midoriya (but like,,,I also kinda want to give him siblings so I’m not sure). Also you know that fandom headcanon that he has 2 moms? Yeah I love that that’s canon you can’t convince me otherwise. He has 2 moms and they both love him so much & wanna support him however they can (also I kinda put a little thought into them for a fic I started writing and decided that they’re the embodiment of the tattoo parlor/flower shop au. Flower mom keeps some arrangements that are...not necessarily professional in her shop because her wife arranged them for her. Tattoo mom gives flower mom tattoos for free & they have matching tattoos that flower mom designed)
Koda: he gives me Could Have Siblings vibes as in he kinda feels like another middle child but I feel like he’s actually an only child (like he probably is in canon? I think). His parents are quiet like him but they definitely love him and he knows it. He’s really close to his grandparents (who also live with his family) as well. He also, quits predictably, has a lot of animal friends who are kind of like family to him cause they’ve been through a lot together (the Koda family household sometimes looks a little bit like a zoo because 3 people in it have talking-to-animal-related quirks)
Sato: another idk about canon but he has a little sister. I cannot tell you why I think this but he definitely has a little sister. Sato you have been diagnosed with Big Brother Energy. Also he totally has a single dad who owns a bakery which is how Sato knows how to bake so well! They’re not poor but they’re not rich and he hopes to send some of his paycheck to support his family & help his dad expand the bakery. It wasn’t the primary reason he became a hero (that was because a hero once saved his little sister from a burning building & he decided that he wanted to be able to save people like that hero had saved his sister), but he does like the benefit of the paycheck
Tokoyami: tbh my first instinct was no siblings but I think it would be really funny if he had like. 3 really preppy siblings (one older than him two younger) & he was the only goth one in his family. Or like. His dad is also goth but his mom & other siblings r super preppy. He loves them all but is very much introverted and he and his dad are closer than the rest bc they kinda bond over being less energetic. His siblings & mom don’t REALLY understand Tokoyami’s goth-ness but they love and support him anyways. His younger siblings lowkey like Dark Shadow maybe even more than him tho. Dark Shadow was pretty sad when he heard they’d be moving to the dorms because he would miss them
Kaminari: tbh I first thought he had only child vibes (he kinda does) but then I decided that he has siblings but their age gaps are pretty significant. His older sister has just gotten out of university and is working and his younger sister is like...7 maybe. His siblings both love him but the age gaps between them make it hard for them to connect sometimes. Anyways I feel like his parents are pretty neglectful & caught up in their work. They don’t really pay attention to him or his other siblings, so his older sister had to learn things like cooking and cleaning and do a lot of taking care of Kaminari and he had to help take care of his younger sister, especially after his older sister went to uni. His parents just assumed he’d come to work at their electric company but he didn’t want to do that so while he definitely wants to save people a big part of his desire to become a hero is to make real connections and prove to his parents that he’s worthy of love and attention. He took the UA exam without telling them and when they found out they would have told him no except that they figured the exposure of their son going to the top hero school in Japan would give them more business. When he moved to the dorms he missed his sisters but was glad he didn’t have to be the main caretaker of his little sister anymore (his parents hired a nanny, which they hadn’t wanted to do before because of how much money it would cost, but because they had in fact gotten more business due to Denki going to UA they had a little more money now). (The nanny and Denki’s sister became fast friends, a fact of which he was glad because it meant he wasn’t leaving her alone in an empty house. He called and visited his sister as often as possible)
Hagakure: honestly I’m pretty sure she’s an only child in canon and she DOES give off only child vibes I think...unlike Midoriya tho I don’t think she’d be particularly bothered by it? I mean I feel like she’s kinda lonely but that’s less about lack of siblings & more bc of lack of people seeing her. But her parents rlly care about her & support her however they can, & they also understand her bc they’re invisible too so they know how it feels to have to work hard to be noticed when you can’t exactly be seen
Aoyama: either both his siblings are way older than him or he’s an only child. He does not give me “is super close with his siblings” vibes. He’s definitely seen as the baby in the family and not in a “he gets away with everything & is the parents’ favorite” way in the “they think he’s kinda a failure” way. His siblings look down on him, his mom pities him because he was the only one to inherit her quirk, which hurts to use, & his dad kinda doesn’t rlly care about him one way or the other. The family gives me pretty rich vibes. Like not as rich as the Yaoyorozus/Iidas/Todorokis but still pretty rich. He went to UA mostly because he wants to get stronger both so that his mom can stop pitying/worrying about him and so that the rest of his family won’t look down on him anymore
Ojirou: l also think he has a few siblings (like...no more than 2 tho). I think younger siblings, he’s also a character with big brother energy (tho I could also see middle child Ojirou). His mom runs a dojo which is part of the reason why he’s so good at martial arts. His dad is an artist. They’re pretty close and love and respect each other. His parents were surprised but supportive when he announced he wanted to go to UA
Ashido: an only child. Her parents love her a lot & make sure she feels supported. She sometimes wishes she had siblings but not super often because she has tons of good friends (this along with Kirishima being an only child who wants siblings sometimes only makes their brotp more epic)!! Also she still keeps in close touch with her civilian friends from middle school but kinda feel disconnected from them sometimes because they’re living such different lives than her. Like they’ll talk about the latest movie and ask her if she’s seen it and she just says no and kinda laugh it off because she can’t just say “no, I wanted to but villains tried to kill my class the day we were planning to go”. She also has a hard time telling her parents that because she knows they’d be super worried about her and she really wants to be a hero!
Sero: has siblings (is somewhere in the middle) and also a huge extended family!!! Before the dorms he lived with his mom and siblings but his extended family lived really close to them and visited all the time so he’s really close to both sets of grandparents and his many aunts and uncles and little cousins (though he’s a middle child in his immediate family he’s one of the oldest cousins). Though he misses his family he sees them as often as he can, and is kinda glad for how chaotic and loud the dorms can be sometimes because it reminds him of his home
Shoji: has a little brother, a mom, and a step-dad. It took a while for him to get used to his step-dad, but it becomes clear that he really loves his family so now Shoji loves him too and is fairly close to him. Shoji’s little brother is adopted because there were complications with his mom’s pregnancy when she was having Mezo and while he turned out fine, they found out that it would be risky for his mom to attempt to get pregnant again. His little brother also has a mutation quirk (though it’s not Dupli Arms it’s Bear) and Shoji loves him more than anything else in the world. He wants to become a hero to help combat the stigma around certain mutation quirks (Gang Orca once canonically kinda addressed that that exists when he talked about how children are always afraid of him bc of how he looks) so that the world will be better for people like him and his brother. His mom and stepdad wholeheartedly support him
M*neta: Only doing this bc my brain will not shut up & is making me analyze all of 1a even the ones I don’t consider 1a. I hope he doesn’t have siblings so less people have to be exposed to his...m*neta-ness but tbh I could see him having siblings. His parents are busy and either don’t notice or don’t care what a terrible person their son is
Better purple boy who deserves a place in 1a way more than the grape Shinsou: has no siblings but gives off IMMENSE big brother vibes. Definitely grew up in the foster system (his biological mother, who was a single mother and also had a mind control quirk, became a villain because she couldn’t get hired anywhere, had no way to support her son, and was tired of being villainized by society so she was like “ok you want a villain? Bet.” When Shinsou was like 7, his mom was killed while trying to flee a crime scene. Since Shinsou had no other parent, he was then put into the foster system. Nobody adopted him because everyone thought he was going to become a villain like his mom had, and even the people who didn’t know his mom thought his quirk was “villainous”). Aizawa and Yamada are now eventually planning to adopt him. He kinda has similar vibes to Midoriya in regards to the “Only Child Who’s Kinda Lonely And Wanted A Sibling” but unlike Midoriya he would NEVER admit he wanted a sibling. “I like being alone” he insists. He is a lying liar. However as soon as he meets Eri they instantly connect & he kinda becomes like a big brother to her even tho he will deny it until Eri herself calls him her brother. When this happens he will cry even tho he will say he didn’t

imagine got7 as dads with daughters
↳ mark: him and his daughter are like velcro. he takes her everywhere with him. she has to be in his arms at all times. if anyone asks to hold her he straight up deadpans a no and keeps walking. they gonna have one of those relationships that whenever hes holding her and someone reaches out shes gonna grab her daddy and be like nope do not want. he constantly tells her shes beautiful because he doesnt want her to ever feel insecure or let any boy sweet talk her. so whenever his daughter gets complimented shes like yeah i know and mark just smiles cause he knows he did a good job.
↳ jaebum: if his baby girl makes even the slightest sound of discomfort hes wide awake and ready to square up. she is the sun and moon and everything in between to him. absolutely hovers around her constantly like a personal bodyguard. doesnt get a full nights sleep until shes like thirty. the two of them have a strong bond but hes totally whipped for her. yep hes wrapped around her little finger and she can get him to do anything. rarely will he discipline her because after six boys shes a walk in the park to him. the two of them will butt heads later in life but she will always win by default.
↳ jackson: congratulations you are no longer the love of his life she is lol. oh my god he loves her so much. there will be many nights you catch him sleeping next to her crib or just watching her sleep and crying his eyes out. shes perfection incarnate and his heart cant take it. he loves spending every waking moment with her. he wants to be her best friend and the person she relies on most of all. they talk about everything and he always treats her like shes the most genius person in the room. he will discipline her when needed but it wounds him. however he prioritizes teaching her to be humble and kind.
↳ jinyoung: the absolute worst. especially with a newborn. anyone who is permitted to hold his daughter will get to do so for ten seconds or less before hes swooping in and taking her back. excuse you i made this shes mine back away slowly. the only exception to this would be his mother and you obviously. as his daughter grows he will get better about it but she is first and foremost his precious baby and there will be hell to pay for anyone who so much as gives her a sideways glance. he will be such a soft but fair parent though that as she gets older she wont be afraid to talk to him about literally anything.
↳ youngjae: hes actually a really good balance of protective and chill. she is his little buddy and is on his mind at all times. the two of them make funny faces at each other and laugh at every little thing together. she develops his sense of humor and his low tolerance for nonsense. he rarely disciplines her because she hardly misbehaves. she is so freaking close to him that disappointing him is her biggest fear. he supports her dreams and will move heaven and earth to make her smile when shes sad. she cant pull the wool over his eyes though. hes fully capable of putting his foot down if she tries to challenge him.
↳ bambam: his daughter is downright spoiled. he just cant help himself. bam works to the bone to make sure his loved ones can live in luxury and shes no exception. the child will grow up thinking shes an actual princess. but it comes as no surprise that any bratty behavior will be corrected. bam has been through too much and has too big a heart to allow his daughter to act like a stinker. since he wears his emotions on his sleeve and always wants to have a precious relationship with her she will have nothing but respect for him. she will be one of those kids that if anyone says anything about her dad shes throwing hands.
↳ yugyeom: she owns him. and hes terrified of her. from the moment he held that little baby in his hands he realized that this tiny human is his to love and protect forever. even as she grows he will always think of her as that helpless little bundle. if she cries hes devastated. if shes happy his world is at peace. when she laughs flowers grow. when shes angry he has heart palpitations. tbh early on you will be hard pressed to get either of them out of the house. its too dangerous out there he says. hes so overprotective its hilarious. oh and if she wants something and you say no you can bet your ass he will get it for her.

thoughts on the older sh generation (maryse, robert, luke, jocelyn, valentine, jia, imogen, etc)
In short: They all suck hahaha. Kidding!! (Or am I???)
Maryse. For this I wanna differentiate between Good!Maryse and Bad!Maryse. I have a lot of appreciation for Bad!Maryse because she’s a greatly balanced character, calculating, cunning, a true opportunist and dipping into emotional abuse/manipulation (though I honestly don’t think she does it intentionally).I very begrudgingly tolerate Good!Maryse. I don’t hate her redeemed state per se, but I roll my eyes whenever she’s on screen and it has everything to do with her ‘redemption’ that happened in one second and off-screen. I’m all for a character seeing the error of their ways and becoming the best version of themselves but you have to work for that and the show didn’t. Instead of showing her struggle, of showing the hardships a redemption brings, two steps forward and one step back, the glacially slow improvement of the relationship between Maryse and all the people she wronged (her children and especially Magnus) the show opted for instant forgiveness and family feels from everyone involved. And it pisses me off so much. So everytime goody two-heels Maryse makes an appearance, declares her love for Magnus and has the audacity to lead him to the altar (when this was clearly Cat’s place!!) I’m reminded of the disappointingly cheap 'character development’ we got and rage XD
Robert. What is there to say about Robert except that he’s disappointingly wasted potential in human shape? He was surprisingly supportive of Malec after 1x12, he wanted to ‘talk Maryse around’ and instead of exploring this potential of him being the supportive and less racist parent, the one with an actual cordial relationship with Izzy and exploring the family drama that ensues when he cheats, the show pushed him aside and made him a weak-spined tool that’s good for nothing. So yeah, Robert can get lost since he’s a waste of everyone’s time.
Luke. Oh yeah, my man Luke. I have a lot of fondness for Luke because he’s the cool dad friend and a cool cop. But boy does he lack common sense sometimes haha. It’s infuriating. Always sticking his fingers into weird substances instead of, idk, using his werewolf senses. He used his pack as a personal army to defend his interests (aka supporting the shadowhunters) and it’s why they cancelled him (and rightly so). He pointlessly wanted to get framed for Heidi’s massacre and gives shit advice (Maia: How do I tell people what to do when I can’t get my own life to make sense? - Luke: You’ll figure that part out.). But he’s the dad. I love his energy and the way he emotionally supports Clary and Simon and Jace and kicks ass (whenever the plot allows it, lol).
Jocelyn. Wait, did I say Robert is a waste of everyone’s time? I take it back. Jocelyn is the real waste of everyone’s time. She’s so annoying. Never gives any relevant information, is self-righteous to a degree that makes me sick, and freakin unteachable. The only good thing she ever did was leave the Circle and love Clary. But apart form that she’s constantly getting on my nerves with her pathos. Ngl I cheered when she died. *Lorenzo voice* Goodbye and good riddance.
Valentine. He’s pretty good at influencing and manipulating people, considering the fact that the only thing he has to offer is fanatism, home-cooked spaghetti and emotional abuse. I mean, why does anyone follow him? He’s supposed to be so charismatic but… I have yet to see something that convinces me. Don’t get me wrong, I love Alan van Sprang’s acting but the actions of the characters and how people react to him don’t line up at all. Anyway, as a character Valentine makes a decent villain. He’s brute force instead of refined elegance but we can’t all be Asmodeus, right?
Jia. Ugh, honestly I don’t know. I did like her up to the end of 3A because I felt she was stern but just. After that I was not so sure anymore. For example that deal she tried to strike with Iris? Shady as shit. And to this day I’m not entirely sure she didn’t know about Aldertree’s little undownworldering-downworlders-program. She does make a good politician though, I guess. I like her vibe but I’m not sure about her morality.
Imogen. *sigh* Talk about a character who could have SO EASILY EVADED HER DEMISE. Honestly. First aid first, then fire message sending. It’s not that hard. I just… smh. You get no sympathy from me, Imogen. Apart form that she’s a hypocritical hardass, pretends to care about justice but really just cares about favoritism. And her “It’s the Herondale in you” spiel is so ridiculous XD XD I mean, points for comedy?! The only thing that really works in her favor is that she’s the only character who actually looked better after a haircut. (Underhill weeps in the background. Speaking of which!)
Underhill. He’s a nice fella. Finally someone who appreciates the work Alec does as Head of the Institute. Even though he was occasionally misused as a plot device (to bait cheating angst in 3x06, to appear anti-Magnus in 3x15) there was always an acceptable explanation for his behavior so I didn’t have to resort to hating him. He really started growing on me when I included him as a background character in a few of my fics. He’s a gentleman and a true friend and I adore him.
Hodge. I’m kinda fond of Hodge even though he turns out to be a traitor. Tbh I never really got why he did that? He didn’t strike me as super anti-Downworlder so the only explanation I see is revenge on the Clave and I mean, supporting genocide just to get personal revenge? Talk about a shit morality. And how could he betray the Lightwood kids like that? He helped raise them, dammit. Can I just pretend there’s an alternate timeline where he didn’t betray them and is the cool uncle friend? Thanks.
Aldertree. Lovely as a character, despicable as a person. He’s so sleek and slimy that it’s a delight to see him act and even more delightful to see him be put in his place by Alec
Lydia. She’s not strictly part of the older sh generation but a) I headcanon her to be a few years older than Alec, what with her position as Clave Envoy and already having been married so that has to be enough because b) how could I pass up this opportunity to proclaim my love for her?? She’s a wonderful character, steadfast in spite of her less than ideal situation and her ensuing resignation. She still tries to be just and good and fight for what is right. I’m forever robbed that she just disappeared, never to be seen again during S2.
Did I forget anyone??

( chris wood, 28, he/him ) class is in session for ANSEM WARBECK. their resume says they’re a WITCH and they’ve been teaching MENTAL MAGIC at the academy for THREE YEARS. the psychological report says they are LETHARGIC and CONTEMPTUOUS, but they’re also IRONWILLED and COMPASSIONATE. we wish them good luck in the new school year.
— * | ansem warbeck is the oldest child of ragnor and celena warbeck. he has a twin brother named arson and while they are identical, they couldn’t be more different. both ragnor and celena are influential members of the magical community and always prided themselves on having a stellar reputation. stellar isn’t quite so stellar though; they are morally gray. they never get into dark magic themselves, but their family has profited heavily from it over the years. ( think … war profiteers, i guess. they never get their hands dirty but they have plenty of blood money ). arson is the dutiful son, the good son, and ansem’s always been the disappointment who couldn’t live up to their expectations. ( the michael bluth )
ansem was never good at doing what he was told and rebelled against the behaviours his parents tried to ingrain in him. he never listened, always liked to do his own thing, and never bought into the whole ‘pureblood supremacy’ thing that they tried to drill into his head. so what if they came from an old witch family? la creme de la crop? magic was magic. he figured if you could do it, you were just as good as anyone else. ( his family disagreed. ) he started at arcanas when he was eleven, like his descendants before him, and was a member of house aquis.
personality wise, ansem is sharp, sarcastic, and doesn’t have a high tolerance for people. the list of people he dislikes is longer than those he likes. he likes to have a good laugh ( sometimes at the expense of others ) and isn’t one to take on responsibility. ironic, given he’s now teaching at the school he used to go to. for someone as intelligent as he is, he does the least amount of work possible and does well but never really exceeds his own expectations. he’s incredibly lazy and can usually be found snacking or napping around the school.
shortly after graduation he worked as a for hire curse breaker. if there was a hex you couldn’t undo, or a curse on your family name, he was the guy you called to fix it. he was good too. it was only after a curse backfired and nearly killed him that he got scared and backed out of it. the fear was greater than the love he had. arcanas was safe, a reminder of good days (and far far away from his family) so he was happy to ya yeet out of the real world. less than a year after graduation, he was enrolled at a magical college and eventually became a mental magic teacher.
another point of irony, given how much he claims to hate people, is the story of how a twenty/twenty one year old mess accidentally adopted an eleven year old. it was an assignment from one of the teachers or housemasters, a mentorship program between tenth and first years. he was assigned jade brantley and at first ? oh boy did he hate her. or rather, the responsibility he felt towards her. it became pretty evident the more he got to know her that they were put together for a reason. her family had sent her to arcanas without so much as a second look and couldn’t have cared less if they ever saw her again. she stayed behind at the school for christmas, as did he to avoid tense family dinners with the warbecks, and that was when their mentorship started to become more like family.
by the end of the year, he looked at her like — his kid, if he was being honest. it was kind of terrifying, wanting to protect another person from the realities of their life, but he knew it was the right decision to make. it helped that his partner agreed; they’d come to care about jade in those months too, and they both knew it was the right call. he contacted her parents, assumed temporary guardianship, and she moved in with them that summer after they graduated. ( the individual that set all of this up, the cheeky bastard, sent them a potted plant as a housewarming gift. a plant that would have needed to have been potted SIX MONTHS EARLIER. he’d be mad about getting played if he wasn’t so happy. )
they formally adopted jade a few years later. they were already family in everything but blood and name — it was simply a formality. the three of them — four, if you counted jessica the cat ( famously known for stepping on faces ) — had been more of a family than any of his blood relatives had ever been. he’s never regretted his choices.
that being said, things weren’t always happy. he and his partner fought a lot, sometimes over nothing and couldn’t remember why they ever loved each other in the first place. but this isn't a story about vindictive exes, it's about two people that do love each other, probably always will, but just didn't love being together anymore. they're excellent co-parents to their adopted daughter and they're working their way back to being best friends even though it's a little awkward. they split up roughly three years ago, shortly after ansem started teaching at arcanas.
he was a bit of a mess that first year, i won’t lie. he probably drank too much, smoked like a chimney, and was trying to remember how to be a person instead of 1/2 of a couple. he’d been with his partner almost his entire life, it was a process — discovering himself again. he eventually started seeing jude montague ( who, ironically, he’d always had a schoolboy crush on when he was a student ) who also taught at the school. one thing led to another and they’ve recently taken things to the next level: they got married. ansem’s still a little terrified this one is going to go belly up too, that he’s going to mess things up, but they’re still in the newlywed phase so he’s not quite as pessimistic on their outlook. it also helps that his family hates jude: 1. he’s much older, even without the whole phoenix thing, 2. he’s not a pureblood witch who comes from a good family name, and 3. he’s a man. yeah, celena warbeck was not happy and threatened to cut him off. she didn’t, of course, but his father hasn’t spoken a single word to him ever since they got married. it’s a game now, trying to see if he can say or do something to make him break. so far, he hasn’t won.
when he’s not staying at arcanas, watching over his water demons, he’s at his house nearby. now that he’s married jude, however, the clan ( bc ansem doesn’t go anywhere without jade, jessica, and by extension kit ) will be moving into his definitely-haunted house nearby. it’s an old victorian, fits jude’s goth boy aesthetic perfectly, and tbh as long as it has decent wifi and an espresso machine? he’ll be fine.
he’s been teaching mental magic at arcanas academy for three years, so connections can be assumed with other staff members and students !! he’s also been the housemaster for aquis, who he refers to as his water demons, so that’s opportunities for connections too! ( there’s also a 99% chance he calls all of his students by pokemon names. sorry not sorry. ) he’s your typical panic first, think logically later, type person, so if he heard about the orb being stolen he’d fear for their inevitable demise. y’know, chaotic and assuming the worst case scenario from the get go.
so that’s basically him in essence. see some quick stats below for more tidbits.

CONNECTIONS
students with an aptitude for mental magic that he provides additional / advanced work for to challenge them. (2/2) dominic masters & rome hawks.
students who need extra help in one or more of the aspects of his curriculum. this would include after hours help, extra assignments, or one on one attention if they were struggling with concepts (1/4): ella bloom.
students that give him a hard time in class for one reason or another. could be people who sleep in class, talk back, distract others, etc. (1/??): morgan stife.
the unholy trinity: fellow teachers who like to get together and be chaotic, shittalk their students, and forget they’re not seventeen anymore bc they’re fucking idiots who like to troll (2/2): maximus & reserved
fellow teachers who like to get together and drink wine after stressful days, or just when they feel like it tbh. (1/????) maxwell gray.
a rival/enemy from when he was @ arcanas who now also works at arcanas. he can’t remember why they don’t like each other but he’s dedicated to the feud. it’s petty, he knows, but he sucks at admitting he’s wrong. (0/1)
ex-wife. see wanted connections. (0/1)
childhood friend. fellow witches who would have hung around people who were haughty and thought they were better than everyone else. ansem’s parents thought they were hot shit so maybe their parents felt the same. they both rebelled against what their parents wanted for them and it bonded them. (0/1)
partner in crime. (28 years old) this person was very different from ansem. different species, a little more serious, the kind of person you wouldn’t expect to be friends with him. they’re probably the only reason ansem even passed his exams, forced to study, and he forced this friend to actually have fun and live a little. they’re still close but maybe fell out of touch over the years. this person would be new to arcanas as a staff member, or teacher, but would be an alumnus preferably from house aquis but could be any.
others to be added when it isn’t 2am and my brains fried.

dominic sherwood : cismale : he/him : student : afraid by the neighborhood ϟ did you see draco malfoy ? you know , 22 year old pureblood who is in slytherin. some say he can be quite +dutiful but are known to be -abrasive . they are secretly aligned with the neutrals . maybe that’s why they remind me of pressed, white button downs; old history books with delicate bindings; the scent of dew on an early spring morning; piercing eyes looking off into the distance filled with horror and distraught; ϟ penned by rhia : 20 : est : she/her .
𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐏𝐀𝐆𝐄 // 𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐅𝐘 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓
hi hello my name is rhia & i’m super excited to be here with all you lovely ppl !! i’m not going to lie to y’all , this is my first time playing as draco , so i wanna apologize in advance for any inconsistencies or errors on my part , there will definitely be a bit of trial & error at first BUT he’s one of my fave characters from the hp universe so hopefully i can do him justice !! as a general warning though , he will definitely be canon divergent bc i like adding my own twists to canon characters ( it’s more fun for me that way tbh !! ). anyways , enough rambling , onto the good stuff !!
𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐂 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍:
full name : draco lucius malfoy
birthday : June 5th , 1980
hogwarts house : slytherin
blood status : pureblood
sexuality : unsure ( he’s still questioning atm )
height : 5′11″
hair colour : silver - blond
eye colour : gray
wand : 10" , hawthorn , unicorn hair ( ❛ hawthorn wands may be particularly suited to healing magic , but they are also adept at curses , & the hawthorn wand seems most at home with a conflicted nature , or with a witch or wizard passing through a period of turmoil. ❜ ❛ unicorn hair : wands with these cores produced the most consistent magic , were least subject to fluctuations & blockages , were most difficult to turn to the dark arts. ❜ )
𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘:
likes : reading , quiet nights on the astronomy tower , nighttime strolls around the castle , the bubbling of potions , receiving top marks , proving himself right.
dislikes : constant pressure , conformity , loneliness , the idea of conflict & war , the fear of him being a disappointment to his family & the malfoy name.
positive traits : dutiful , intelligent , charming.
negative traits : abrasive , cowardly , selfish.
boggart : a mirror image of himself , standing before him wearing an evil sneer , & bearing the dark mark on his forearm.
amortentia : the scent of a rainy day , peppermint , freshly baked cookies , & roses.
patronus : draco hasn’t learned the patronus charm yet , & probably wouldn’t be able to successfully cast one due to his lack of happy memories.
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐎𝐘 𝐖𝐇𝐎 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐍𝐎 𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐈𝐂𝐄:
the silver haired bundle of joy came into the world on a sunny june morning , wrapped in love & adoration by his parents. draco lucius malfoy , a name he would find difficult to live up to in the years to come.
his early memories were no different than many young purebloods growing up. he was spoiled , anything he wished for was his with just a snap of his fingers. to many people’s surprise he was a soft young boy, with nothing but love for those around him. he was a bright white light amongst darker souls. that bright light would be diminished soon enough , once his father got a hold of him. draco taught to hate those with ❛ tainted blood ❜ , as his father plainly put it. he never questioned the older malfoy , but there was doubt buried deep within him , quietly waiting to bubble up towards the surface.
lucius malfoy was always a difficult man to please , although that didn’t deter draco from trying. as he aged , draco was desperate to earn his father’s affection. he dove into many of the books in the malfoy manor , learning everything & anything he could. he constantly harassed muggleborns & those deemed less than him. yet , nothing ever worked towards draco’s favor. there was always someone better , & was always compared to those around him. his mother , however , was more compassionate towards him as a boy. although she never defended draco when lucius would go after him , picking up the broken pieces left behind. it saddened draco for a while , but mostly encouraged him to do better , breaking his self image along the way.
his school years were no different at first. he achieved high marks in a majority of his classes , & tormenting muggleborns whenever he got the chance. still , it never felt quite right to him. ( death mention tw ) it wasn’t until cedric diggory’s death that everything he had tried so hard to repress came towards the surface , & he could feel himself faltering. he’s conflicted in who he is as a person , & who he wants to be. the worst is still to come , & draco knows the expectations laid before him. time is running out for him , & soon he’ll be forced to pick a side , a decision he’s too afraid to even make.
𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒:
honestly give me all the plots ; friends , exes , friends with benefits , confidants , quidditch rivals , etc. maybe even someone who’s muggleborn that he finds himself tolerating ( but like in secret idk ??? ) or even like helping him find the right side. or even a death eater who keeps pushing draco towards the dark side ?? he’s at a tug of war with himself atm so he could go either way lol. just know that shipping with draco will probably be v tricky bc he’s got a lot of insecurity & shit. even if we plotted before , i’m always down to try new plots ! i’m open to brainstorming as well !!
also note : i tried to kinda keep his backstory vague but these are my personal headcanons about draco & his parents , things are subject to change if we ever get a lucius or narcissa but yeah. just wanted to mention that too.
