Now watching "The Sound of Thunder". Absolutely love assertive Saru, like yeah, please scream some more at Pike, for me <3
The sound design on the Ba'ul is also impeccable, they sound so eery and uncanny it's great. Their physical design is not quite as good, it works really well at the start with all the close ups and the glowing red eyes that it kind of obscures what the exact from is. But the longer it goes on the more you realise that they're just humans, but with black goo over them and tentacles in their face.
Also love Burnham backing up Saru at the start, against Pike, even if she did confront him in the transporter room later.

Day 105, The Sound Of Thunder
Woke up Friday morning to the sound of thunder. Wayne was already awake. He had been listening for a while. It was 4am. The dogs were restless but the cats were chill. I thought about getting up but dozed on for a little while longer until the alarm woke me at 5. The storm had passed. We heard it moving away as we lay there in the deep purple light. Later I practiced yoga in the still dark of the…

So I just had to read Bradbury's "Sound of Thunder" and I have thoughts
I like the story and I understand the concept but I feel like te Dino era would be by far the safest to mess around in. Like I have trouble believing the butterfly effect could trump the meteorite and the great freeze over.
How depressing is it to have a dude from the future determine, evidence in hand, the moment where you become irrelevant enough to be hunted for sport? Like I know fictional dinos would have no concern for their legacies but having a dude single you out as game cause he KNOWS you won't even butterfly-effect matter is scary.
Eckles is giving Frankenstein in the worst way. "I didn't realize it would be this big!". It's a Rex. They're on display at museums. Literaly what did you expect. This is why arrogance is dangerous.
So I won't question the mechanics of the floating path cause future technology or whatever but if it's so important to keep people on it WHY WOULDN'T YOU BUILD A HANDRAIL? Like not only is it mandatory for regular ass current bridges but given the starkes it's BASIC COMMON SENSE. How did they get approved by the site inspector, let alone for insurance?
I get that Travis is mad but what was his thought process when considering leaving Eckles in the past? Like they're taking all these precautions to not spread modern diseases and make a fuss about him tripping off the path, but they're gonna leave him to stomp around unsupervised? Even as a corpse he would be dangerous. Or was he gonna take the corpse with him? Cause that just sounds unfair to the other paying costumers.
I know Ray Bradbury was going for dystopian but given the string of questionable politicians and heads of state of the past decade and beyond, I think a universe where the president is terrible but English is spelt closer to how it's pronounced is a net positive.
