Buddy Daddies - Episode 12 - SPOILERS! - Rei’s Injury and His Hobbies - A Deeper Look
I was thinking last night about Rei and his arm, about hobbies, and also about accessibility, and how those tend to overlap in regards to the stereotypically gendered spaces of said hobbies.
Tumblr media
Specifically, Rei’s gaming hobby vs. Kazuki’s cooking hobby. Gaming has tons of people of all ages, genders, and sexes that play them. But the sphere itself is still largely male first and male dominated. There is also a lot of focus placed on skill level, and there are plenty of “gamers” out there that look down on people who play games on easy level or who struggle with certain aspects of games, saying stuff like “get gud!” or whatever.
I love games! I enjoy playing them, but I am definitely more of a casual gamer and I enjoy playing games solo (Rei seemed to as well, or playing with Miri, he never seemed to engage in online game play - that was likely too risky).
My mother enjoyed playing games ever now and again too. She was a very casual gamer, basically just liking classic stuff like Mario and Donkey Kong or even arcade games like Pac-Man, etc. She didn’t play much as new gaming systems came out like Playstation and N64, but she did used to have the option to play a game if she wanted to. Until about 10 years ago.
She had a stroke (due to medication for her heart condition), and lost movement on the left side of her body. She has practically all of her face movement back and her left leg works well enough, but her left arm and hand has very little to no movement. The option and ability to play video games became extremely limited, basically just to the Mario Jump game or whatever on mobile.
The gaming industry has an inaccessibility problem. There are some customized controllers out there for single hand game play usage, but the quality of them vary a lot and they don’t seem to be all that good. Many games are crafted with single hand game play in mind (or even as an available option either).
Of course, Rei was younger than my mom when he self-inflicted that injury on himself, and he was trained in a lot of areas and skills that might make it easier for him to recover a bit more arm movement and adapt more to being able to play some games with only one hand (I know there are some gamers out there who have learned how to do this!). But, generally speaking, the gaming hobby is a seemingly male dominated hobby space that lacks a lot in accessibility options.
Games being more of an actual hobby, as in for entertainment purposes solely, rather than a mixture of hobby and survival skill like cooking (Kazuki’s hobby) is, also likely plays an aspect in the difference between ease of entry, use, and accessibility that you find within the cooking hobby sphere.
Don’t get me wrong, there is elitism here in the sense of people looking down on others who use pre-made food or who do this or that, but there are a lot of gadgets and tools that can help with cooking. My mom can’t really play video games anymore, but she can still cook.
Cooking, while on a professional and culinary level has a lot of connection to famous male cooks, is still seen as a hobby and overall seemingly female dominated space. But it is also a space more welcoming to accessibility. Using guides, like recipes, are common and accepted instead of looked down upon (like in gaming), and so on and so forth.
Tumblr media
In the 10 year time skip, we see that Rei is cooking. How much he cooks and if he really cooks anything outside of his signature dish is unknown to us. Does he still play games at all on any level? We don’t know and can’t really say. Not with the info we’ve seen and what has been given to us.
The fact that his amount of game play in the day was already being limited before the incident with his arm (1 hour per day) makes me think it was likely a hobby that he likely wasn’t engaging in with as much as he started learning and obtaining new skills (like cleaning and cooking).
There may be other hobbies that he picked up over the years as well too, but really does make sense to me that he would start engaging more with cooking as well. Since it is a hobby and skill that is more accommodating to him now.
Also, I’m only speaking from second-hand experience (my mother’s experiences with things like video games and cooking and the like), if you have your own experiences with something like this are okay with sharing or talking about it - please feel free to!

Hello there!!! May I request a suuuper fluffy piece for Gareth? Maybe where you’ve been friends since you were little, and you both love each other but think the other doesn’t (so cliche I know but it makes my heart happy) and the hellfire boys are tired of it so they do their best to get y’all together and adorable-ness ensues? If possible, thank you so much!! 💕💕💕
Thanks so much for the request!
Honeysuckle
Gareth Emerson x Fem!reader
Summary is basically the request
1.3k words
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🥁💀💀🥁💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
"So close! Try again!" You giggled as Gareth missed for what had to be the 100th time.
It was lunch, and Gareth had been trying to throw a tater-tot in your mouth the entire time. The rest of the table was audibly groaning, and Mike had a very readable look of disgust on his face.
"Are you sure they're not dating and just very, very bad at hiding it?" Dustin whispered to Eddie.
"Sadly, I'm sure. "
"Are we gonna do anything about it?" Lucas questioned.
"Please do something, I don't think I can watch this for much longer without vomiting," Mike muttered.
"You're right. Freshmen, it's time to get the childhood best friends together once and for all." Eddie smirked.
“God they’re such a cliché,”
~~~~~~~
The boys spent the rest of the week trying to get you and Gareth together, like sticking notes in you or Gareth’s lockers (turns out you two already did that) and saying it was from the other or making comments whenever Gareth called you a pet name.
“What's up buttercup?”
“Buttercup? Doesn’t that sound like something a boyfriend would call a girlfriend?”
“Shut up Lucas.”
It got to the point where Eddie even got your friends outside of Hellfire involved.
“Look, Y/n, all I’m saying is I see the way he looks at you. And c’mon, he calls you stuff like “Honeysuckle” and “Lovebug” Isn’t it obvious?”
“Since when have you been one to play matchmaker Alex?”
“Whatever. Just saying.”
None of their tactics were working, so by the end of the week, the boys devised a much more straightforward plan.
~~~~~~~
You worked at the local arcade, right next to family video.
Just before your shift ended, a familiar boy ran in, out of breath.
"Wheeler? Did you run all the way here?" You chuckled.
"L/n! Uhh, yes actually. Last minute change. There's a hellfire campaign starting tonight that we need you to sub for because Lucas had a last-minute basketball thing. It starts at 8 pm." Mike practically wheezed, still out of breath.
" ’Kay, I’ll be there. But you realize you could've just called right-?"
"...Shit."
~~~~~~~~~
You walked up to the clubroom, only to see a giddy Eddie, Dustin, Mike, and Lucas waiting outside the room.
"Hi! Are we supposed to go into the clubroom or..?" You questioned, feeling as though something was off.
"It's a common tradition that the Dungeon Master enters the room last." Dustin quickly explained.
"Well, then why are you guys out here-?"
"Eddie gets lonely out here," Lucas said, patting Eddie on the shoulder. "So we wait with him."
"Yep," Eddie said through gritted teeth.
"Lucas? Wait if you're here who am I subbing for?"
"Just get in the room." Mike practically screamed, before pushing you in.
You stumbled into the room, which as far as you knew was not set up for a DnD game. There were light candles, dim lighting, rose petals sprinkled on the table and floor, and... Gareth.
"Helloo?" You awkwardly asked more than said, which made Gareth jump.
"Oh hey!" he waved before his eyes widened. "I-I see how this might look, and I promise I didn't set any of this up. Mike shoved me in here and locked the door. I mean we're just best friends! Nothing romantic." Gareth quickly explained, his voice uneasy.
“Oh yeah. O-of course.”
Soon you heard the door click and realized you’d both been locked in.
“ L/n, Gareth has something to tell you. Something verryyy important.” Eddie shouted, emphasizing the word very.
You quickly turned to Gareth, whose face was bright red. “I-I don’t know what Eddie’s talking about.” He stuttered out before practically running to the door and banging on it.
"What the fuck are you doing Munson?"
“Sorry Gareth, this doors not unlocking until you tell L/n what's been bugging youuu.” Eddie said in a sing-song tone. “Oh, and I'm sure L/n'll have something pleasant to say about it. Now I’m taking the freshmen for a drive, by the time we get back you better have told each other what you need to.”
Gareth groaned and fell against the door as you both heard footsteps walking away. There were a few minutes of comfortable silence as you walked around the clubroom and Gareth just sat by the door with his head in his hands.
As much as you didn’t want to admit it, your heart was beating a mile a minute. You and Gareth had been best friends since you were both six when he was trying to skateboard and nearly crashed into you while you were biking.
“Watch it, nerd!”
“Sorry, princess.”
“I’m not a princess, nerd.”
“Oh yeah? Then what are you and why are you riding a pretty pink bike?”
“I’m Y/n L/n. And this is a hand-me-down from my sister.”
“ I’m Gareth Emerson. I got this skateboard for Christmas.”
"Well you need to keep practicing buddy."
"I bet I'm better than you!"
"Let me see the skateboard, nerd."
You couldn't help but smile to yourself while thinking of the day you two met, and other childhood memories. When you skipped school to goof off at the arcade, all the sleepovers, or that one time you slipped down a muddy trench during an especially rainy spring and Gareth found you in the pouring rain and helped you home. You figured that was the day you fell in love. Your parents didn’t even notice you were gone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You'd been zoned out for who knows how long, trapped in the clubroom for even longer.
“Helllooo? Princess?” Gareth’s voice was soft, snapping you out of your thoughts.
“Augh, I told you to stop calling me that.” You rolled your eyes.
“Did you even hear what I said?”
“Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.”
“I asked why your smile is so pretty,” he said matter of factly like there was no doubt about it.
“W-what?” You stuttered, his sudden complement catching you off guard.
“Why is your smile so pretty?” Gareth tilted his head like a dog while giving you puppy dog eyes. God that man was the human embodiment of a golden retriever.
The most you could do was shrug before burying your head in your hands, afraid you were blushing.
“I’m sorry.” Gareth’s voice was barely a whisper, so quiet you were surprised you even heard it.
You looked up to see Gareth shaking his head, looking away from you and off to the side.
“Sorry for what?”
“Everything.”
You frowned and walked over to him, sitting down beside him.
“Well, what’s everything?”
“All this.” He motioned to the room. “Promise?”
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion. “Promise what?”
“You’ll still want to be my friend after this? After the shocking news I'm about to reveal?”
You giggled and nodded. “I’ll never not want to be your friend Gareth Emerson. Promise”
“Okay, good cause I’ve like… had the biggest crush on you since we were eight.” When the words were out of his mouth, Gareth brace himself as if he was expecting something catastrophic to happen, or you to slap him.
Instead, you smiled and cupped his face in your hands.
“Can I kiss you?”
Gareth nodded, his face turning a light shade of pink.
You softly pressed your lips against his, and he moved you closer.
Close. This was as close as you'd ever gotten. And as close as you wanted to be, yet still not enough.
Gareth pulled away, a big goofy grin on his face.
“Well, you have me beat Emerson.” You giggled.
“Hm?”
“I think I’ve had a crush on you since the trench incident which was when we were…” you trailed off, trying to remember the exact age.
“Ten.” Gareth quickly finished the sentence for you.
“Yeah, yeah ten.”
“So that means I win by two years.” He smugly declared.
You rolled your eyes with a grin and shook your head.
“Can I sit in your lap?”
Gareth acted like he was thinking about it for a moment. “Sorry, lap privileges are reserved for my gorgeous girlfriend.” He teased.
You pouted, crossing your arms.
“I could be your girlfriend.”
“I’d love that.”
“...Can I sit in your lap now?”
Gareth chuckled, before patting his lap and putting his arms out. “Come here honeysuckle.”

hello! Im here to request a platonic x reader with Macaque, Wukong, MK, and Redson and they're all playing mario party? If you do not want to do multiples then can it just be Macaque
I’m so sorry this took so long, I literally had no idea what to do for an actual plot SO I hope you’ll accept my compromise of the different characters playing video games
Macaque, Wukong, MK, and Redson - How they Play Video Games! (Headcanons)
Macaque - cheats constantly. He’ll use his shadows to sabotage whoever else he’s playing with. He’ll listen to the future so he can get himself the best odds that he can. It’s a little annoying, but he’ll ease up if you want him to. Can be a bit salty if he loses but it’s not a huge deal. He prefers strategy games because he likes testing himself, and hates VR with a passion because of the sensory experience of it. Also he is DEFINITELY the type to pick Rainbow Road in Mario Kart.
Sun Wukong - plays fair! He loves having a good time when he plays games, hence why he put so much effort into his own. He has an impressive collection of different games he’s collected over the years, and somewhere in his junk room there’s an original Gameboy or something. He can get a bit competitive but in the end he’s happy to spend time with people. His favorite genre of games are the battle royale types—don’t come for me but I think he’d absolutely play Fortnite. He also loves the games where you can take care of pets/animals, he thinks they’re fun.
MK - definitely competitive and has cheated before, but he doesn’t cheat all the time. He’s a good sport about losing however beware because he’ll do rematches all night if it means he might win. Likes classic, 8-bit games the most for the visuals. He doesn’t like horror very much but he’s not opposed to it. Rhythm games and music games are also his thing—he’s super good at Beat Saber and even DDR if he’s at the arcade! The one thing he refuses to touch is dating sims. Redson - insanely competitive, but surprisingly not a sore loser. He breaks the odd controller but once he’s got a good handle on how a game works he’s fairly chill. That, and he’ll replace the controller because of course he knows how to either make a new one or where to find a new one. He hates dancing games and dating sims, but likes horror games since it’s rare for things like that to actually startle him. One of his guilty pleasures is the Cooking Mama games. He once applied a technique he saw into something he was cooking with his father and when DBK asked where he learned that, Redson simply replied “a very wise woman”.

Could I request the different riddlers with a s/o who collects just random ass trinkets? Pins, pendants, just little shiny trinkets and knick-knacks. Hopefully that makes sense
"Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?" Riddler party x reader
I have a collection of kokeshi dolls and other random things like bones so.... I felt this ask while reading it. I also included stuff they might collect!
TW: None
Gotham
If any of the riddlers is going to understand collecting and the hyperfixations that can come attached to that, it's Gotham. Please show him your entire collection and tell him all the information you want about it. He will be listening with hearts in his eyes memorizing the standards of which you use to pick new items.
He actually has his own collections! Articulated skeletons, wet specimens, old fashioned medical textbooks- He'd love to tell you all about them! oh and puzzle boxes! He's even made some, do you want to see?
He has a checklist in his mind of the traits things in your collection share so he can find the perfect thing. You won't get a ton of stuff from him, but the things you do get are a-mazing and exactly to your taste. It has to be perfect! He spends a lot of time overthinking this kind of thing.
60s
How darling! Just where did you find all this? Whatever pieces are your favorites, he'd like to hear the story behind them at some point. Sometimes you'll catch him looking at them from time to time, admiring them. Thinking about how they suit you. Shiny treasures. Just like you are to him.
He will find you the cheesy, weird stuff that fits in with your collection. ESPECIALLY knick-knacks and pins. He insists he travels often enough and has enough friends that he just knows how to get this kind of thing. If nothing else, the pieces are always very unique.
Riddler has a collection of old movies and theatrical costumes. It's not the same but if you want him to share that with you, he'd be happy to! Make some silly home movies where batman gets owned (again).
Zero Year
This man's special interest is in mythology and folk tales (which I will go deeper into in another post). If any of your knick knacks, pins or the like reflects on those subjects, expect to have his full attention. He's already rattling off statistics and info dumping on the type of/cut of the jewels in your trinkets and pendants. Ah, but you showed him this because it's your interest, so perhaps you should tell him about it (once he's done talking, of course).
If you promise to be cool about it, he will show you his dice and dnd figurines. He hand-painted this one, it's one of his characters for a game, a gnome... and he's gone he's going to be rambling for like an hour about the mythos he created for this guy. The dice are all custom made and he has a set that all the ones are a golden question mark on green. You aren't surprised.
Oh, you've done it. You've basically told him outright what to get you as presents. Suffer, by which I mean be ready for him to use that to his advantage. He knows good quality and fine work when he sees it. These things combined means you are getting some very kick ass gifts whenever he pleases. Especially if you just happen to be mad at him for being a shit.
BTAS
Instantly zoning in on things that attract his eye. Whether it's the beauty of your pendants or a quirky design on a pin, he's going to tell you his opinion on these pieces. Yet you notice he's too polite to say which ones he doesn't like (if any) and just glosses over them...
Perhaps it'll seem too on the nose, but he likes collecting old game systems, obscure limited edition video games and arcade cabinets. He's repaired them and reworked bad coding and hardware issues in his spare time. You know, for fun. He used to do this since he was a child which coincidentally is where he learned a lot of it. Now he can afford expensive equipment and tools. If he's anywhere past the year 2006, he has a physical copy of Rule of Rose. If you know, you know.
You like pretty, shiny things? He is more than willing to get you pretty, shiny things. Let's be honest, he already liked stealing jewels of high caliber and the like, this just gives him more incentive. Then he can tell you all about his dashing and clever plan he used to do it which gives him such a little ego boost.
Telltale
He doesn't mean to be rude, cherub, (he is anyways) but what is the point of this? Is it just because it's pretty? Is there something specific you like about all of it? In his opinion, it's just there to collect dust if it doesn't have a use.
While he of course pretends he's above all that, BACK IN THE DAY, he used to collect Lord of the Rings stuff. He has a copy of the 1978 version that he still holds in high regard. Semi-related, if you coaxed him into it, he will speak Elvish in bed.
He isn't necessarily going to seek out things for you to add to your collection, that's not his bag. But once in a blue moon, you'll get a small box with something special in it that he says "reminded me of you." Even if he doesn't get it, he knows it's something you care about and so he will attempt to make an effort.
Arkham
Oh. Hm. His very initial reaction might be that it's a little immature. He doesn't outright say it, but you can get that impression from small, harsh comments. Over time though, he'll come to appreciate the emotional value they have for you. Then he stops making those comments and will try to dish out compliments.
If you got this man intricate ship-in-a-bottle kits or those ridiculously intricate lego sets, he'd have his greasy gremlin hands all over those. Working with machinery the way he does, his happy space is putting it all together and seeing it complete. Then it goes on a shelf somewhere.
He's not probably going to give you much for your collecting unless you like things he can make for you- But, tell you what, he's more than willing to make a display for your things. He's good with his hands and it's a way to show that he cares about your interests. If you do like things he can make, like his trophies and whatnot though, you'll occasionally find something tucked away for you to find behind a riddle or two.
2022/Nashton
Edward is glad you feel comfortable enough to share this with him. He never got to collect things when he was younger because the other children would have just torn it to pieces just for fun. To him this is a sign of trust and vulnerability on your part. Now he can look through this collection to see parts of you that you might hide for other people. Little things you might not have even known about yourself.
He likes collecting/recreating memorabilia from movies (usually horror) as well as those insanely difficult puzzle boxes. The ones he can afford, anyways. He has a whole stack of completed brainteaser and puzzle books. A lot of them are math and some quite difficult to understand unless you're good at that sort of thing. However, he doesn't consider those collecting because he only had them for stress-coping. The cheaper ones he likes tearing out the pages to use as additional layering for his rats cages.
See, he doesn't have a lot and knows you don't expect these grand expensive gestures from him. That being said, I think he'd turn to the online sphere to try and find something really rare that you can't find anywhere else. He's very good at slinking around to find things and he has connections through his alternate persona. He wonders if stream might have any good ideas...

How Can AvM Be Canon Within AvM? (Analysis/Headcanon)
Alright, so it's been, what, two, two and a half weeks since The King came out and downright imploded the fandom? There's so much going on during every second and every little detail counts. There've been revelations of Mango and Purple's narrative foiling, of what Mango's backstory means for the ages of the rest of the cast, and of what this means for the Beckerverse at large.
However, one odd little loose end continues to nag at a lot of us, it seems.
How is it possible for the original AvM video to exist within the continuity of the AvM "Shorts"?
I've seen a lot of speculation about whether in-universe Alan just has his screen recorder on all the time or not, and what this means for the apparent father figure to the very sticks in the video. Are the videos like vlogs in-universe? Do the sticks know they're being watched by millions of strangers?
I'd like to think I've figured it out. See, a post like this almost could have been made months ago, back when Green first saw Mango's explanation of the plan to Purple…except we didn't have one key factor then that we do now.
And that key factor…
…is Herobrine.
Tumblr media
Lemme explain.
See, a lot of pieces of the puzzle fall into place once you work out Herobrine's whole deal. For context, in the original AvM video, he possesses Red and forces them to battle the rest of the Color Gang for seemingly no reason. When he next appears in Monster School, he's…
Tumblr media
…a teacher?
Now, I'm not going to talk too much about the ins and outs of Monster School- that's not a canon I'm familiar with. What I am familiar with, though, is the previous Animation Vs. videos. Why on earth would a Minecraft cryptid who, by all appearances, should have a grudge against ROYGB…not have a grudge?
I mean, you've seen him in action.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Red wasn't an unexpected-but-welcome visitor, we would have known. Instead, we got Herobrine making Red come to class. Almost like saying "Get in here- you might actually learn something."
Tumblr media
And while he's pretty insistent that Red sticks around for class, as visibly Not A Mob as Red is, he's also a pretty chill teacher, all things considered.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least, until his students are endangered.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, how does this characterization of Herobrine mesh with that from the original AvM, when the characterization for everybody else is so rock-solid that we're able to associate Minecraft proficiencies with stick figures who are visually indistinguishable save by color?
Simple: it doesn't.
Now, I'm not saying we've got two Herobrines running around, I'm saying that the Herobrine we meet in Monster School is, as it were, Beckerverse Herobrine's natural state.
The original AvM was an acting gig.
I'd even go so far as to suggest that almost all the "Animation Vs" videos that aren't AvM "Shorts" were planned out in-universe, and there's a simple way to tell which ones would have been planned and which ones weren't.
Does it happen on Alan's desktop (or an expansion of it)? It was most likely planned.
This goes for Vs. Youtube, Vs. Mario, Vs. Arcade Games, and Vs. Minecraft. An argument could even be made for AvM S1E1- The Rediscovery.
It does not go for Vs. League of Legends.
(Don't worry, I'll be coming back to Herobrine later. I'm not through with him yet.)
Now, Vs. League of Legends, while originally teased at the end of Vs. Minecraft, does not actually pick up from where Vs. Minecraft left off. It takes place sometime after season 1 of the AvM shorts, and it takes place within League itself.
It also features Purple.
I won't go into too much detail, but suffice it to say that the bit of character development we get here does seem to translate directly to the Parkour episode of AvM S3- in the previous AvM short with Purple in it, the rainbow squad leaves on less-than-friendly terms with Purple, what with Blue and Green being left to fall to their deaths and Purple being tossed in Minecraft jail, and all. In Vs. League, however, we get a good, old-fashioned stick fight between ROYGB and Purple, and it would be expected for the two sides to part as frustrated acquaintances at best…
…and then they go for another round, this time switching up who the 'villain' is and getting Purple to play with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, in Parkour, Purple uses this newfound trust to get them into the parkour trap. (And I could yell (hyperfixation) about Purple here, too, but I'm trying to focus purely on the meta right now so skdjskdjdk)
See, season 1 of AvM originally takes place on Alan's PC, but it does take a detour through the Nether and out through multiple different Minecraft worlds before the sticks finally get back.
Season 2, short as it is, takes place entirely on the desktop. (Or desktop-adjacent, in the case of the Lucky Blocks episode. Even in that trippy Lucky Block Dimension, the sticks can still influence the desktop directly.)
Season 3…well.
Season 3 takes us out of Alan's PC right from the get-go, and while there is a brief return or two before the end, it's still a direct continuation of what's been happening on the other side of the portal.
And what a happening it's been!
We've got the squad being split up multiple times, we've got a looming threat on the verge of deleting Minecraft, and we've even got a brief detour through somebody else's copy of the game.
But how does all this mesh together?
Well, like I said, if my theory is correct, the Animation Vs. videos (minus Vs. LoL) were all staged, at least to some degree. That means that, for all intents and purposes, Herobrine's original possession of Red was planned out beforehand and given the green light.
Maybe some of the other AvM videos were too, maybe they weren't. Unless we see them within the context of new AvM videos themselves, I don't think we'll ever know for sure.
But the videos that follow the sticks off the desktop are almost certainly videos that just don't exist in the Beckerverse. If in-universe Alan has a screen recorder trained on his desktop for funsies, he likely doesn't send his digicameras to follow the sticks around as they leave to do who-knows-what.
So what does this mean for the father figure to our favorite stick figures?
I propose that the Animation Vs. videos that could have been filmed using just Alan's screen recorder were, while videos that involve the sticks leaving to go who-knows-where weren't. The build battles, the first two music-related episodes, the first rollercoaster video, those were all done with at least the knowledge that what they were doing was being recorded. (I personally like to think in-universe Alan runs any "hey remember this? let's make it a video!" ideas past the sticks before uploading, but that's just me.)
Blue and Green leaving for the Nether the first time and ending up on Purple's Macbook, and everything that comes directly of it? That happens "off-camera" and probably isn't uploaded to in-universe Youtube.
The events of S3 as a whole, taking place almost entirely off of Alan's PC, wouldn't have been recorded, either.
Which brings us back to Herobrine. His first appearance, his acting gig, was definitely on Alan's desktop. In this context, it'd be like if you managed to successfully get Bigfoot to shoot a video with you- you shoot the video, you bid Bigfoot farewell, and you never expect to run into him again.
Except Red did.
Tumblr media
When Herobrine sees Red in the halls, his first instinct is not to tell Red to get lost, the way it would be if he'd recognized Red and left ROYGB on bad terms. He squints at Red- and I would bet money that he does recognize them, because how many stick figures would a Minecraft Creepypasta brought to life even know?- and invites Red to class.
That's not something you do with somebody you dislike, especially when kids you care about, your students, are on the line and you've got the means to protect them.
Now, we know from Monster School and The King that Herobrine is perfectly capable of what we saw in the original AvM, but that he's also capable of so much more. The Doylist explanation is just that Alan and the crew came up with more abilities to show off after growing their skills for years on end.
The Watsonian explanation is that, well, in a scripted video, Herobrine didn't need to pull out all the stops. The original AvM was plenty entertaining as it was, and the sticks are durable enough to do things, like, say, brawl with each other in a website without end. If the first AvM was scripted, who's to say they were even really endangered?
(The AvA videos and the actually-short shorts…kinda hurt my brain to think about in this context. So I won't. At least, not yet.)
But they were definitely endangered in The King, and when Herobrine is in danger of getting pulled into the staff, nobody moves…
…except for Red.

Red was possessed in the seemingly-scripted original AvM video and, if they'd had a bad experience with being possessed for a video, they likely wouldn't have brought attention to themself right at this moment. If they hadn't, they might have beaten themself up over not doing so later, but their first thought in the moment wouldn't be to get closer.
But it was. They did.
And we all know what happened next.
Tumblr media
We know that plot points from the original AvM are still true in-universe, scripted though the video may be.
Herobrine's abilities...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...the power of the Minecraft icon...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...that's all stuff that comes back later on.
Which brings us to the Mango man himself and the moment that's breaking all of our brains.
Tumblr media
In-universe, if the only videos that exist are the ones that take place solely on or around one guy's desktop, who's to say stick figures in the interspace believe that anything that happens in them could be real? They don't go on that guy's PC. As evidenced by the Minecraft booth from Mango's backstory, they need a whole Star Trek holodeck-on-steroids setup to even get into Minecraft without using Minecraft mechanics directly, and this likely goes for other games as well.
Mango, however, was desperate enough to turn to Minecraft myths for his revenge plan. He's already considering things outside the box- who's to say he can't get the Minecraft icon from wherever the ROYGB sticks are?
So when he puts up his posters declaring that he wants to find the sticks who most people probably consider to be actors, who else would respond than the one stick we on the outside have seen before, the one stick who knows that the videos may be scripted but the abilities are certainly real?
Tumblr media
When Purple sees Mango's Minecraft basement, they're looking around in awe, sure, but given that the use of Minecraft mechanics seems to be restricted outside of Minecraft, to the point that Mango needed to make a shady alleyway deal to get his hands on a command block…well, I'd be surprised too.
But they recognize the Nether portal for what it is, and they don't hesitate to follow Mango through.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's probably a lot to be said regarding Purple's motivations at this point- given the assumption that Vs. LoL happened off-camera, for Purple to then turn around and lure the sticks into the parkour trap for Mango…there's something more going on there, there's gotta be. Something that might have been expanded on in a musical number, perhaps?
however this post took several hours of thinking to do and the better part of a day to make legible for tumblr, and i wound up passing out at one point, so i think i'm done for now wodjskdkd. i'd like to think i've at least clarified which videos would be available in-universe and why.
now if anybody needs me, i'm gonna go rewatch s3 and cry again :',D

dating steve harrington hcs
a/n: this was my second most popular request after the eddie ones lmao y'all have made your faves clear and i love it because they are also my mine
Tumblr media
you & steve started dating in high school; maybe in like junior or senior year?? it's nothing serious, literally just two kids messing about, and eventually you break up before you graduate just because shit happens, as it goes, and honestly it's nothing that deeply scarring
then one day, maybe a year or so after you graduate, your mum sends you out on a friday evening to get something for movie night and you end up going to family video
lo-and-behold, steve harrington is sat behind the counter. you had always wondered what he was up to these days, but you sort of lost contact
his face lights up when he sees you - even more so when you look him up and down and say "we're both here on a friday night, so i guess things worked out for both of us, huh?"
steve can't help but smile; he'd always loved your humour and he was glad to see it hadn't changed in the last two years
when you ask for movie recommendations, he just happens to list every film that you & him used to watch together
when steve gives you that stupid goofy smile of his, you know it's not a coincidence
you end up renting a new hope, per steve's insistence and apparent new found love for the star wars franchise (thanks dustin!!)
before you leave, he asks if you want to hang out ("as friends - not weird high school exes, but i don't blame you if you haven't moved on yet")
so a few days later you meet him after work & you lull around the arcade for a bit exactly like you did when you were teenagers
steve is different now; he's..wiser, maybe. still goofy & dumb as ever, but everything he says is a little more insightful and his face lights up when he tells you about how he's the unintentional babysitter to nancy wheeler's little brother and all his friends
at the end of the night, he asks you if you want to go on an actual, proper date. and it's hard not to accept, because he still has all the features you loved so much about him as a giddy teenager, but the maturity he used to lack is there now, clear as day
you go into the whole thing with no idea what to expect, but after a few dates it's clear you've got a good thing going and within two or three months, you and your high school boyfriend are in some weird new, committed relationship
it was unexpected, which was nice
in a way it's like no time has passed at all - he still has all his old habits, like opening the car door for you, driving you home all the time & leaving you dumb notes around the house
he's so, so caring in his own little ways - he leaves the coffee machine on a timer for when you wake up, buys your favourite sweets every time he sees them in any store, and he's always bringing home videos from the store that he think you might like
steve's pretty basic with nicknames: it's normally baby, and sometimes sweetheart, but mostly commonly a shortened variation of your name, or even just your first initial
ngl he's a fucking nightmare at remembering actual anniversaries but somehow remembers the smaller things??
like making you breakfast & a packed lunch on the days you have big meetings, or learning the names of every single one of your extended family, or filling up your car in the morning so you can stay in bed an extra five minutes
or one time you mentioned in like january that there was this really pretty necklace in the window of a store downtown; it was sold out the next day sadly, but then around the summer he sees it again and buys it for you
he can be a little frustrating at time. steve grew up in a very well-off household so he's not the best with money. he'd much rather splash out on a cool new video game or a nice present for you than save for the future
and you can't really argue with that?? because how fucking cute is it but also rent is important too steve god
steve can also be difficult. he's stubborn as anything and once he has his mind made up, there's no changing it. that means you guys sometimes clash, but you always make up
he has two polaroids of you on his nightstand; one is you guys outside the arcade in your junior year and the other one is basically identical, except it was taken on your third anniversary (the second time you're dating lmao)

You and Robin were barely acquaintances, having only seen one another as you passed through the hellishly crowded hallways at school. You'd never really spoken to her either, finding her friendly enough, but neither of you had really considered yourselves that great at socializing, so it remained one of those 'what-if' situations. One of the things you thought about at night when you wondered if your actions and choices could have led you to a different outcome.
Until... Robin notices you at the arcade next to Family Video. She's been working there for months, and she has a habit of spending her break time there instead of in the video store . (Steve teases her for it, but who can blame her? They have better vending machines and they have blue raspberry slurpees. What more could she ask for?)
She remembers you from school – someone who seemed kind and genuine and who she wanted to converse with but never had the courage to – and so she finally comes up with a plan to talk to you. She's going to walk into the arcade one day, see you there, and try to strike up casual, easy conversation. Maybe about the arcade or the game you've been playing for three days straight now. Easy enough, right?
Well... not so much. Robin carries out phase one of her plan; she steps into the arcade during her break and orders the usual from concessions – her blue raspberry slushie and a medium side of chili cheese fries – but that's about as far as her plan goes. You're there, hyper-focused on one of the game machines – she hasn't figured out how you always manage to be there when she's on break, but it's not as if there's much to do in Hawkins besides run from monsters, watch movies, and play games, so she doesn't really pay any mind to it – and she's rendered a bit of an anxious mess because she's just realized she'll have to talk to someone outside of her typical friend group. Sure, you give off good vibes, but the possibility of getting to know you and then finding out that you won't accept her for who she truly is keeps her from moving over to talk to you.
She keeps her eyes on you, curious and yet hesitant, until she has the fleeting thought that this might seem a little creepy, so she turns back to her food and continues intensely staring at her blue slushie, imagining what it would have been like had she been capable of following through with her plan.
However, she doesn't have to imagine it for very long, because suddenly you're next to her, asking the concession manager for your own strawberry slushie – something that actually surprises her, because she didn't have you pinned as the strawberry type. She's so shocked that she unintentionally voices her thoughts.
"Strawberry? I didn't see you as someone who could handle the sweetness of it."
"Yeah, it's surprisingly not too bad." A beat passes and then you fall into an oddly familiar routine – strange, seeing how you'd never interacted before – and you smile as you tease her. "You got something against strawberries, Buckley?"
Conversation strikes up easily, taking you both by surprise, and the difference between your demeanor and your personality has her captivated. She quickly grows fond of you – becoming friends who talk excessively about whatever is currently of interest to the both of you, listening with wide eyes as you get to know one another – and suddenly she's making sure to spend all of her breaks at the arcade, sharing snacks and various flavored slushies together as you talk alongside the machines. She finds your honest and teasing personality refreshing, finds it intriguing how you're so devoted to your hobby of gaming; you have this goal to become the player with the highest score on every machine, and she thinks it's both impressive and endearing that you're actually pretty close to achieving that, having half of the machines already showcasing your name as the number one player. In other words, it doesn't take her too long to realize that she may be developing a crush.
If it did take her any longer, then Steve would have been the one to clock it. She's prone to rambling on and on to him, as they're best friends, and you've become the latest subject of such ramblings. She talks about how much she enjoys your presence, about how she can't believe the two of you had never talked before now, and when he gives her an all-knowing glance, she just playfully rolls her eyes.
"I'm serious. If you had actually met them, you would think that they're as cool as I do."
But she's not as dense as Steve thinks she is; rather, she's just worried about exposing herself to the wrong person.
Regardless, one day when she leaves her shift a few hours early – Steve taking care of Family Video as she goes next door – she accidentally spills her secret (and her strawberry pink slurpee).
The two of you were talking at an arcade machine with your usual snacks when you had convinced her to try her hand at the game you were trying to win.
"Oh no, I've never been much of a gamer. My hands get really fidgety and they've always been a little over my head..."
She nervously laughs but you insist, and she eventually caves. She struggles at first, trying to keep up with which button does what, but she finally gets the hang of it as you cheer her on. Your support has her cheeks dusted pink, making her brain falter for a minute as she reels on how nice it feels to hear you applaud for her, and she falters. She's about to lose the game when suddenly you help her out, your hand resting on hers in order to save her little character on screen, and Robin feels like she might explode.
She's so giddy that she moves her free hand forward, knocking over her cup and sending some of it flying towards you. What remains of the strawberry drink you had convinced her to try is now on your shirt, and her eyes are wide, mortified and filled with guilt.
She rushes to hand you some napkins, quick to try and talk to explain to you.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! I really hope that doesn't stain because your shirt is really cute and I would feel absolutely terrible if I messed it up. Like horrible, and I hope that you don't think I'm crazy for how much I talk to you because I just think you're really cool to hang out with. Like, so cool. Like, I talk about you so much to my coworker Steve that I'm pretty sure he wants to strangle me sometimes. He seems to think I have some sort of crush on you and–"
She stops, having realized what she's bumbled on about, and when you ask her if she does have a crush on you, she just lets out a nervous giggle before saying, "Um.. maybe?"
She's so anxious, heart hammering as she looks anywhere but at you, terrified that you might reject her and expose her to everyone else at Hawkins High as an outsider, someone different, but you don't. You take her hand and give her a smile, reassuring her and confirming that you feel the same, and Robin beams.
"So uh... I could take you downtown to buy you a new shirt? To make up for this one?"
You accept her offer and enjoy your first official date together, hand in hand as you go shopping right after leaving the arcade. When you leave, various brown paper bags of items hung on your fingers, you both sport matching grins of elation and golden charm bracelets, yours of the moon and stars and hers of the sun and clouds.

Heyo! Hope you're having a great day! Tysm for opening your match-ups! Anyway here's mine(Romantic please):
I'm a straight woman that uses she/her pronouns, I'd like to be matched up with the MHA fandom! (Excluding all of the villans, Endeavor, All Might and Mineta please!)
I'm a pretty energetic type of person when I have a good night's rest 😅 Especially if I get a good breakfast, I'll be running around a bunch. I consider myself confident and extroverted, mashallah. But on the flip side, staying up at night has a huuuge effect on my personality. I become very tired, grumpy and I start hating people💀💀.
I like to be as straightforward as I can, because what's the point in softening the truth when we could be struck by reality any second? Being truthfull is a very important thing to me, since it is one of the things that helps me pick my close ones!
My favorite past time is video games!! I absolutely love them!!! Especially Genshin Impact, Overwatch, and The Escapists 2.
I love staying up playing, I know I shouldn't buuutt.....Who cares am I right?🤨💀
It's very important that there is balance in any relationships I have, I absolutely hate it when a relationship is one sided. Either we both contribute or we just don't have a relationship. Contributing can be doing things like work to help us, cleaning around the house, making dinner, being nice and respectful to relatives, etc...
I like a guy who is able to match my type of energy, a guy who can stay up and binge watch/play games but at the same time have a stable job. For the guy to be tall or short isn't of any concern, but not shorter than 150 cm...
Some people find this odd, but I don't listen to music. I find it pretty distracting and a temporary solution to boredom. My love language is a mix of Word of Affirmation and Quality Time!
Tysm for reading all of this, and have a great day/night to you and all that read this!❤️‍🔥
omg hi!!!! i am so so so so glad i can do a matchup for you!!! i have the absolute perfect man, so let's get right to it shall we???
the character I chose for you is...
PRESENT MIC!!!
Tumblr media
not only because you simp for him but think about it
you want a man to match your energy, well here you go! this man is nothing but energy HOWEVER when he's not working he's usually exhausted, but still able to have that high energy with you
when you're staying up late playing videogames, expect him to be asleep on your lap
stable job you say??? well this man has 3 LMFAOOOO and he still manages to have time to give you all the love you need
you both have a run around morning routine and it's super cute because one of you are bound to forget something, so the other has to run up to them and give it back, placing a little goodbye kiss on the other's nose
he will cuddle you so it's easier for you to fall asleep so you arent grumpy the next day lmao
teach him how to play videogames and then realize it's a bad idea because he gets REALLY GOOD
like one minute your absolutely knocking him out and the next, you lose. that one's on you lmao
he is such a nice and respectful guy, it's adorable
your family loves him
when you have to work late and he finally has a day off expect to come home to a nice clean house and food on the table
he will spoil you with how he treats you: kisses, cuddles, gifts every now and then, a clean house, food, etc.
and when you do the same, he will love you forever
he loves a two sided relationship just as much as you
HE IS SO OFFENDED THAT YOU DONT LISTEN TO MUSIC
like he understands why, but he will get you to try to love it
and because of that, you actually like music a little more (only if he's the one who made it lmaoooo)
he will take you on the most fun dates. like totally random places: bowling, amusement parks, arcades, etc. they're cheesy, but fun
this man will tell you every day how much he loves you
the voice hero is not lacking of those words of affirmation, so expect a lot of it
he is full of unconditional love and that makes you appreciate him so much

Review #0002: Breakout (Arcade)
Another major release, coming 4 years after Pong. You can clearly see Atari (including developer Steve Jobs!) trying to perfect the genre of hitting balls with a paddle. With more sounds, more elaborate visuals and a high score format that I don't think has been done before and I usually love, you'd think that I would be raving about this one.
You'd think. Let me explain.
Graphics (4/5)
To start off on a positive note, I do really dig this aspect. This is a simple looking game, but it revels in that. The colors with the overlay are vibrant as heck. Keep in mind, expectations are pretty low for one of THE first microprocessor titles. In that regard, hell yeah is it an upgrade over Pong. Much like how the game itself is pretty much just a very expanded, altered version of that game.
Sound (3/5)
I'm gonna be a little harsher here and say that the sound is fine. As with the graphics, this is not the period of time where it can be judged very harshly. This sounds a lot like it's 'predecessor' and that's okay. It does what it's supposed to.
Didn't need the sound of an extra free play being the one of getting your molars drilled, though. That irks me. Couldn't it have been a high pitched beep or a fun jingle instead, Steve?
Gameplay (1.5/5)
Okay, here we go. Might be a controversial take, but in my opinion, this original iteration of the genre is anything but enjoyable to actually play. We all know how arcade games tend to be hard, very very hard. This one takes it to an extreme however.
The game is deceptive with it's low entry bar. You see bricks, you gotta destroy em with a ball that you bounce off a paddle, that's how it works. The ball gradually speeds up over time as you bounce it more, and that's where the problems start.
It may just be the fact that i'm playing on Switch and not in an actual arcade, or my lack of True Gamer Skill (trademark), but getting the ball to line up with the paddle at higher speeds is HELLISH. It is ridiculous to lose multiple lives in a row like that.
Even setting the DIP switch to give you 5 lives instead of 3 does nothing to help out. You're still gonna lose before you broke through to the top even once. I don't like that all.
My thing with video games is that I like the sense of improving myself, that it IS possible to overcome certain big barricades that prevent me from beating it. None of that here. It feels like a luck based mission that at some point becomes too fast for me. Save states do not help either. I'm done with it. I desperately hope the Atari 2600 version improves my chances.
Longevity (3/5)
Interestingly, this game seems to be the first to introduce a kill screen for when you play too well. ...Beating 2 screens was considered masterful at the time.
Because of the sheer difficulty and it being one of the first games to actually have more than one level, you can keep bashing your head against this one for a fair amount of time. It's a shame I do not have that level of dedication.
Overall
It's hard to understate this game's importance. It's concept holds up very well, and i'm excited to try out this game's ports and sequels. By all accounts, this seems like a true Atari classic.
Tumblr media
It sucks that this SPECIFIC, ORIGINAL version is sadly too far gone for one big reason. Me being bad at video games. It's the first game (out of ~30 i've played for this series) where I legit had to give up before the first hurdle. Sorry. We'll see you again soon, Pong 2.

Tumblr media
I'm having a bit of art block at the moment. So I thought this might be a good time to go back and talk about the 3 games I released this year to give them one little bit of love before the year ends!! As well as some thoughts on where they'll be going next year!
First Up: Released August 10th, BOYZ: WORLD WIDE WEST! (x)
Tumblr media
 This was a "pseudo-multiplayer" quickdraw game. Make your very own BOY, and battle foes in quickdraw matches! The big draw was using codes from other's wanted posters to duel their BOY in your game!
This was the game I actually planned to make at the start of the year. I had the idea in my head for a bit, and I think it came out pretty good! Sadly very few people actually participated in the #BOYZWWW tag to share their wanted poster. But I stand by this concept! I've got ideas for updates to make to this game in 2023. I would really like to add real back buttons to each option so it's easier to enter codes and build a boy. But I think there's also potential to touch up some menus and make them look more original and less like RPGM menus. I wouldn't hold my breath for it coming out any time soon. But yeah... I do already have a small idea for a sequel to this game! It's a bit more ambitious than I can do at the moment, but I'll keep my mind on it. This was my favorite game I made this year!
Next: Released November 6th, DaRoach! (x)
Tumblr media
A maze running arcade styled game. Play as DaRoach and try to collect gems and treasures! There's a 10 stage arcade ladder with a small story, and an endless mode with various layouts to try and master!
This game was something I wasn't planning at the start of the year, but randomly I had the idea that I could make a simple arcade game pretty easily. It took a bit to figure out what it should be about and how DaRoach should look, but I think it came out pretty good! This game really needs to get touched up a bit in 2023. Thanks to SumRndmDde's custom menu plugin I can FINALLY add a score present during gameplay. But I also would like to potentially touch up tilesets and gameplay to look and run a little better. I know this sounds silly. But I already have plans for the next 3 DaRoach games. I'm not joking. The whole DaRoach lore is already figured out. 3+4 won't be able to be made soon. But DaRoach 2 isn't entirely out of the question eventually. But I'd still need help to get it done.
Lastly: Released December 13th, FLYTRAP! (x)
Tumblr media
FLYTRAP is a simple Game & Watch styled game where you control Marty the Flytrap and stop flies from biting your stem! It's a simple blocker game, jump in front of the flies before they reach the center!
This game was completely spur of the moment. After playing Garden Gaurdian and redrawing old G&W fanart. I realized I could make a GW game pretty easily. And people seemed interested so I sat down and made it quickly over a weekend. I'm still shocked by the love this one got! There's not a whole lot to the game that can be cleaned up in 2023. But I certainly think there's room for improvement with playing on phones. However my main goal is to add additional game modes that make the game harder/slightly different since it's easy to edit. I do have an idea for a sequel to FLYTRAP but it'd be more of the same. Nothing too fancy. I don't know when I'll get around to it but it's one I could even potentially do in RPG Maker. Maybe. We'll see. No promises.
---
And that's all the games I made in 2022! Thank you all so much for your support, and thank you for playing anything I put out there! It all means the world to me! As always, these smaller games are leading up to me finishing Once Upon An Adventure, my full scale RPG. I don't know when it'll will be done. I'm at a point where I'm pushing myself to just be happy with what I am making currently, I want this to be the last round of asset making I do. I don't think it'll be done by 2023. But I'm hoping I might be able to show more videos by then. Currently Im working on the maps! I'm on the second to last chapter for dungeons. Then I can do towns, then hidden areas! Once that's done I can build them all in game, then start working on overworld sprites and then when its all put together I can record footage of maps! There's still a LOT of work to do on Once Upon An Adventure, but please look forward to it and please look forward to more updates in 2022!
Tumblr media
I do still plan on doing 1 short game per year. And I have a couple of ideas. I'm thinking of maybe letting people decide which one I should attempt? We'll see. A big goal I have for game making in 2023 is to try and enter some game jams. I've made games in really short times already so I think entering game jams could be a ton of fun. So don't be surprised if you see stuff like that from me. And as always I'm working with @CloudyGamesLLC and @SeafloorGames for various projects. Please check them out!
Once again, thank you all so much for your continued love and support. I hope I can make even cooler things next year! Here's to a great 2023 with many more video games to come!

This... Is BGNN
Things you might want to know, for Mar 17, 2023:
Tumblr media
How ‘Spring Breakers’ Forecast the Next Decade of American Chaos — It’s a ridiculous fever-dream of a movie, with a ridiculous James Franco performance bubbling and spewing within it, but like its girls and their guns, it pops.
Ozempic is a game-changer. Here’s how it works. — I’ve read about a lot of “game changers” in my lifetime, and very few have been able to justify the hype. But every once in a while…
This 'Half-Life: Alyx' Mod Brings a Slice of Valve-level Action, Created by Annapurna Developer — I’d love to revisit Alyx, but I have neither the PC nor the floor space to even consider it at this point. So I live vicariously through screenshots and demo videos.
What to Expect When You’re Expecting to Be a Gen X Girl — Heh.
Steven Spielberg and John Williams on how music became an actor in Jaws and Close Encounters | Boing Boing — I don’t know how to rank Williams as a composer, but as an artist bringing something distinct and meaningful to a film’s narrative, he’s in a class of his own.
Tumblr media
The History of Rock: One Riff Per Year, From 1965 to 2022 — I don’t agree with all the inclusions, but there’s some quality stuff here.
He'll Be Back: Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Last Act — I hope the old fucker enjoys the hell out of his final laps around Hollywood’s track… he’s been a fixture in my life since I was a kid, and while I haven’t always been a fan, I can’t help but like him.
Danse Exquise is an animation that evokes the feeling of being inside a kaleidoscope
'Everything Everywhere' Stars Reunite in 'American Born Chinese' Teaser — The world needs more Michelle Yeoh.
‘My AI Is Sexually Harassing Me’: Replika Users Say the Chatbot Has Gotten Way Too Horny — I haven’t dug into this Replika thing yet, but I loved the headline.
Tumblr media
What were the first fighting games like? — There were two kinds of people in mid-‘80s arcades: Karate Champ people, and Kung Fu Master people. I was decidedly the latter, as was my best friend, who blew $200 one summer completely, well, mastering KFM. By the fall, he could play for an hour on a single quarter, and naturally, no longer had any interest in it.
Micky Dolenz Will Not Let the Monkees Die — I’ve only watched a half-dozen or so episodes of the show and a documentary or two. But when I was 19, I was in love with a girl who thought The Monkees were the greatest band in the history of everything… so y’know what, Micky? Keep going, dude. You’re making someone out there happy.
This Is a Philosopher on Drugs
Make ChatGPT Work for You With These Browser Extensions — Fuck the browser extensions… if you have an Apple Watch, just snag a copy of Petey, a ChatGPT app/complication that puts all that textual utility on your wrist where it belongs. It won’t control your lights or dial your phone like Siri, but for quick access to information, it’s infinitely superior.
After 'The Last of Us,' Everything Will Be Transmedia — I don’t think TLOU is actually as big a milestone as the title suggests, but still… cross-medium storytelling and reimagination is going to be a huge part of the future.
A Face Recognition Site Crawled the Web for Dead People’s Photos — We are all going to regret every single photo we’ve ever posted online.
r/Android - Samsung "space zoom" moon shots are fake, and here is the proof — Samsung? Full of shit?! I am shocked…!
The Demise of Silicon Valley Bank — A nice little explainer, walking you through the bad decisions and hubris that led to the bank’s collapse.

Save Vase, plus some advice
I mentioned in my first post that I’ve dabbled in computer game design; I didn’t get very far into my game development journey before I pivoted to tabletop games, though, since it was quicker and easier to get a prototype ready to play. I did, however, finish four very simple games before moving on, not counting stuff I made during programming class in high school. Most of these games had a specific educational purpose behind their creation, as I suppose any piece of practice artwork does. I’m not sharing them with you because I think they’re particularly worthwhile, though I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a certain level of fondness for them, but because I believe “pulling back the current” on these old game dev projects might help aspiring game designers realize they’re not alone in their struggles.
But, without further ado, I present to you one of my earliest completed computer games: Save Vase!
When I first started making games I had grand aspirations: I was going to make a space-shooter/RPG hybrid with a karma system and choices that affect the game’s story and a robust skill tree and – Yeah…I’ll talk about how bad of an idea this was later, but I knew my goal, misguided though it was, and I set out to achieve it.
There was only one problem (actually there were many, many problems; again, I’ll get into it later): no one knew about me. And if no one knew about ME, then how would they ever know about this masterpiece of a game I was working on? I needed a website, but most importantly, I needed proof I could actually make a game. Why would a person spread my website link around if they couldn’t be sure I even knew a thing about game development, after all? So I spent 30 minutes of my time creating a simple game to show to my friends on social media to prove I wasn’t just talking out of my ass (it was more like whispering).
That’s how Save Vase came to be. I don’t have much to say regarding the game itself, honestly; I think the above video is self-explanatory. In case you’re curious, though, keeping your vase safe for 30 seconds unlocks a hard mode in which you control a second vase with the arrow keys. “Impossible Mode” would be a more appropriate name, in my opinion, since it’s a little brain melting protecting two vases at once.
It won’t come as a shock to some of you that the space-shooter RPG never got past a couple of half-baked prototypes (and “prototype” is being generous); the truth is that making a game of that scope as your first project is basically impossible, especially if you’re flying solo. The lesson Save Vase taught me was that it was my true love all along a beginner’s first games should remain as limited in scope as possible. I should have been pumping out simple arcade games like Save Vase left and right to hone my skills, but instead I was convinced, despite having next to no idea what I was doing, that if I just tried really hard I could develop my dream game. I wasted time learning how to implement mechanics into a doomed project instead of focusing on the fundamentals. If you want to make games, and you haven’t heard this advice already, start small; instead of the battle royale with dating sim elements you doodled pictures of in your chemistry textbook, maybe make a couple dumb games about protecting pottery from psychic aliens first. Keep them simple, and make sure you finish them. A bunch of small completed games will do more for your skill development than attempting a large, complicated project ever could. Just make sure you’re having fun!
Peace.
Computer game design may not have worked out for me, but I still actively work on tabletop games; in fact, I have a card game available for purchase right now! It’s called Jewel Thief and it’s an asymmetrical card matching game. Purchase it here and/or read about it here.
Oh, and I guess if you want to try Save Vase for yourself you can download it here or whatever.

“𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮!”
-> Blue Lock boys introducing you to…
Ft. Seishiro Nagi, Hyoma Chigiri, Meguru Bachira, and Reo Mikage
Fluff & crack, slight cursing, very slight episode nagi spoilers, chigiri’s sister calls reader pretty and bachira’s mom calls reader stunning, reader is an art enthusiast in bachira’s part, gf helped me with reo’s part
Tumblr media
⁀➷ Seishiro Nagi -> his cactus
When Nagi told you there was something he wanted you to meet, you weren’t sure what to expect. The way he phrased “something” made you wonder if he had a pet you’d never heard about, though he never struck you as the type of guy to refer to animals as “things.”
So when you follow him into his bedroom, you’re already searching for a fluffy creature, glass tank, or fish bowl. Of course, none of those were present.
“What was it you wanted to introduce me to again? I don’t see any animals in here…” You asked curiously.
“Animals? No… too much to take care of, such a bother.” He responded, poking around his window sill.
“Then what did you want me to meet…?” At this point, you were a little worried. If he pulled out a video game console and told you to say ‘hi’, you might have just left.
“This.” He quit looking around his window sill and lifted a… plant?
“A cactus?”
“It’s name is Choki.”
“You gave the damn cactus a name!?”
You were relieved it was something relatively normal, but a cactus with a name still threw you off guard. You never took Nagi as the type of guy to enjoy plants. After all, he doesn’t go outside unless it’s for you, Reo, or the arcade. And plants are typically an outdoor thing.
“It’s only a few months old, I got it before I met you and Reo. I didn’t talk to anyone and didn’t wanna be a threat to society, and animals are too much of a hassle to take care of. And then I got Choki.” He recalled the events vaguely, leaving out the part where he felt a little lonely.
“That’s actually… oddly sweet. Good job, Nagi!” You cheered.
“What job…? I only have to water it once every few weeks…”
“Well if you don’t want the praise- nice work, Choki! You kept this lazy guy from being a threat to society for months! It’s all thanks to you that-“
“It can’t hear you.” Nagi cut you off.
“But it can hear you?” You scoffed sarcastically.
“That’s different.”
“How?!”
Tumblr media
⁀➷ Hyoma Chigiri -> his sister
By Chigiri’s appearance alone, anyone could tell he had inherited the good looks in his family. But what most people didn’t know was that he had a sister, a sister that also inherited good looks.
He didn’t bring family up in conversation. Not because he disliked the topic, but because he didn’t think it was anyone else’s business when it came to his. If you weren’t his s/o, he probably wouldn’t have told you about having a sister.
“Do you think I could meet her sometime? If that’s okay with you, that is.” You asked enthusiastically, but tried to stay polite. Chigiri never liked it when people pried into his personal life.
“Well… if you really want to, you could probably meet her tonight. But you’d have to come over for dinner, is that okay with you?” Chigiri asked, not wanting to put you in any uncomfortable situation.
“Of course! Should we go now?” You smiled brightly at the pink haired boy, making him grin in return.
“Dinner might not be done yet- but we could head over now.” He agreed.
The whole way to your boyfriend’s place, you wondered what his sister was like. Was she nice? Was she older or younger? Did she have a significant other that came by the Chigiri household regularly?
“We’re here.” Your boyfriend stopped your racing thoughts. “If you’re worried about what she’ll think, don’t. She’ll like you, trust me.” He reassured, putting your mind at ease.
As he opened the door, you could immediately tell dinner was already being cooked just by the smell. It smelt so… good.
“I’m home! Sis, I’ve got someone you might wanna meet!” Chigiri called out, taking his shoes off in the process and hanging up his bag, signaling you yo do the same. “Make yourself at home.” He whispered.
“Oh, who is it, Hyoma? Is it that girl you’re always on the phone with in the middle of the night?” You heard a feminine voice from around the corner.
You froze up a little, realizing you really were about to meet your boyfriend’s family. Turning the corner, you were met with a tall lady that shared very similar features to your Chigiri.
“Um… hi- hello! I’m Hyoma’s-“
“This is my s/o (Name), sis. Can they stay for dinner?” He accidentally cut you off.
“Hyoma! Don’t cut the poor thing off, that’s rude. Go on sweetie, you can finish your sentence.” She said sweetly. You felt your cheeks heat up at her kind gesture, you weren’t expecting her to be this nice.
“Right- I’m (Name), Hyoma’s… s/o. It’s nice to finally meet you!” You shook the hand she put out for you, and all Chigiri could do was smile as he watched two of his most precious people get along so well.
“Such a pretty name for a pretty face. Hyoma, you really scored with (Name) here!” She giggled.
You became flustered, while Chigiri only chuckled. His sister left to continue dinner, leaving you and your boyfriend alone again.
“I told you she’d like you.”
Tumblr media
⁀➷ Meguru Bachira -> his mom
Bachira only cares about four things. You, soccer, his monster, and his mother. His mother was the first thing he could ever recall caring about, way before he met his monster and soccer.
After all, his mom was the first person to care about him as well.
When you met Bachira for the first time, he was alone against a wall with a soccer ball next to him. All of your classmates thought he was weird, and advised each other to stay away from him. He was outcasted, but you were just an outcast. If you really wanted to you probably could get into a friend group, but you didn’t mind not having one.
“Did you get lost?” He asked suddenly.
“Uh, not really. I was just taking a different route. Why ask?” You replied.
“Not many people take this way, it’s why I’m here.” He said.
Something in you told you to keep walking, but another part of you told you to stay. You couldn’t have been more grateful for the part that told you to stay, otherwise Bachira wouldn’t be your boyfriend today.
Boyfriend of merely a month, that is. You were surprised he hadn’t asked you during the first week if you wanted to meet his mother, as he had put such a great emphasis on how important she is in his life.
“You mean you really want me to meet her?” You asked in awe.
“Of course I do, as long as you wanna meet her!” He grinned widely, excited to introduce you to his mother.
You’d talked about enjoying art with him, and that was the first time he brought his mother up. When he told you she was a painter, you were awestruck.
“I do wanna meet her? When can I? Soon? Later?” You asked enthusiastically.
“Right now!” He exclaimed, grabbing your hand and leading you to his place. It was sudden, yet exhilarating.
He opened the door, and you were immediately enamored with the murals on the wall. You didn’t have to ask to know it was Bachira’s mother who painted these.
They were beautiful.
“Are you ready?” He double checked with you, making sure you were comfortable and not too nervous. Which of course, you were a little nervous. This was your boyfriend’s mother, making a good impression was a must. But that nervousness was outweighed by your enthusiasm for art and meeting a professional artist.
“Yeah, I’m ready. Do you want me to wait out here?” You asked.
“You can just follow me in,” he whispered. “I think she’ll be happy to meet you sooner than later.” He said before opening the studio’s door.
Your nose was hit with the strong smell of paint and wood, clearing your mind.
“Mom, I’m home. I brought someone for you to meet as well!” He stepped aside, letting you stand next to him in the doorway.
“Oh my, is this who I think it is?” She asked. Her brown hair was pulled back into a loose ponytail with strands sticking out, and there were some pain stains on her face. Yet despite that, she still looked beautiful.
“Hi! I’m (Name), Meguru’s lover. It’s a pleasure to meet you Miss!” You introduced yourself politely, all whole taking in the room and scenario you were in right now. It all felt too good to be true.
“Oh I’ve heard so much about you from my boy! You’re just as stunning as he said you were, It’s so nice to finally meet you!” She enthusiastically shook your hand. You could already tell where your boyfriend got his personality from.
You’d asked her about the type of art she makes, and she happily showed you some of her paintings and art tools. Meanwhile, Bachira stood behind the two of you beaming with joy. He thought nothing could make him happier than you and soccer, but that’s not the only thing anymore.
He thinks there’s nothing that makes him happier than watching the two people who showed him unconditional love for as long as he’s known them get along so well.
Tumblr media
⁀➷ Reo Mikage -> his peers
For as long as Reo could remember, he’s always been popular. I mean, why wouldn’t he be? He has a well known family, money, good looks, and brains. Reo was the epitome of everything that could make someone popular.
With popularity came fangirls, and with fangirls came regular confessions. Not only that, there were plenty of guys who wanted to he his friend for some extra cash. Reo was well aware of his peer’s ulterior motives behind their actions, and yet he never cared much.
And even when he met you, began dating you, he still didn’t care much. But sometimes his fangirls and friends were just so… annoying.
“I heard that Reo has a s/o now, can you believe it?” Someone said from behind his locker.
“Well it’s believable, it’s Reo fucking Mikage after all! Everybody wants him in one way or another. I just think it’s sudden, he never seemed to care much about dating.” They’re friend said with a giggle.
Reo merely rolled his eyes. If there was one thing he’s always minded about his status, it’d be the way everyone thought they knew him so well. Even people he’s never spoken to— like those girls behind his locker— tried so hard to act like they knew him.
It was annoying.
As if on cue, he felt a hand on both his shoulders. “Boo!” You whispered.
“Oh no, I’m too scared to move.” He chuckled, turning around to face you.
“Well you just did, what’s your next excuse gonna be?” You asked sarcastically, stifling laughter.
“Hmm… maybe-“
“Reo! Over here!” A high pitched voice cut him off, much to both of your annoyances.
You and Reo eyed each other with a knowing look, knowing what’s about to go down. He sighed, telling you to come with him for good measure.
Before the girl said anything, she was staring you down with disgust, wondering why Reo wanted you to come with him when she asked for him, not you.
“Excuse me, I said Reo. I don’t recall asking for anyone else to come over here.” She said with a dry sarcastic laugh, the kind that most girls give to their disliked person.
“I told them to come with me, whatever you want from me can’t be too personal if you’re asking for me in the middle of a hallway.”
She rolled her eyes, and turned her head to the girls on the other side of the hall, who were shaking their head in disapproval.
“Okay… but just who is this anyway. I’ve never seen-“
“They’re my lover.” He said sternly, holding your hand to get his point across. “This is my lover, (Name). Surely you’ve heard they’re with me?”
Her eyes widened, eyes moving from you, to Reo, to your intertwined hands. She stood there in shock for a moment, before turning on her heel and storming off.
You and Reo bursted out into laughter once she was gone, you laughing so hard you were clutching your stomach. Reo’s eyes brimmed with tears, neither if you were sure why you found the encounter so humorous, but it would certainly make an entertaining story to tell Nagi.
After that incident, anyone who didn’t know who you were suddenly knew your name the next day.

modern!au headcanons [ diluc, kaeya ]
prompt: domestic modern!au headcanons for diluc and kaeya, as requested by anon pairing: diluc x gn!reader, kaeya x gn!reader warnings: none, sfw word count: ~1.3k words
a/n: hhhh love this concept,,, headcanons are super easy for me to grind out too <333 thank u for the request, nonnie! these are just a random assortment, i hope that’s okay! why was i struggling not to make these nsfw
Tumblr media
diluc
probably pretty busy and lives in the city. you’re more than welcome to stay at his place if you want, but he realizes that his luxurious apartment can get pretty lonely if he’s not there
is very apologetic on the nights he comes home late (which is most of them). but, you get to lay in bed and watch him take off his shirt and tie as he changes into his pajamas, so you’re never frustrated for too long.
just wants to cuddle and watch movies whenever he has downtime with you after work. he works a lot :( just take it easy with him
probably has a chef that will cook for the two of you, but also doesn’t really like people crawling around his apartment when he’s there (aside from you, of course)
he’s rich. that’s what i’m trying to say.
definitely dresses in suits every day for work, but has a pretty decent fashion sense outside of work. he works the expensive-looking, all black outfits. likes to match with you, but won’t outright say so unless if you ask.
likely adores the concept of those heartbeat bracelets? it just seems something he would be super into.
also has flowers delivered to your workplace if you’re comfortable with him doing such a thing.
he tries to make time once a week to have lunch with you, but you’ll likely have to come to his office if you want to do so. he always pays for the meal in return!
he likely worked seven days a week until the two of you got super serious. if you have a specific day of the week off, guess what? so does he now.
very much a cuddlebug. his favorite way to spend a lazy saturday morning, when he’s able to, is to stay in bed with you until 1pm.
he’s pretty introverted, but you’re one of the few people that doesn’t tire him out, so diluc’s absolutely enamored with you.
he’s not overprotective per se, but he knows how nasty people can be and he worries. if you’re working late, even if he’s not home, he appreciates a text whenever you get home for peace of mind. he’ll always text you when he’s working late, too!
speaking of texting, he’s probably very formal in texts. you could be like “ilysm, you’re so cute aaaaaaaa” and he would be like “Thank you. I love you too. I will be home later.”
uses emojis on rare occasions. it’s always just a smiley face or something simple. doesn’t really understand memes if you send them to him, but he’ll laugh anyways if it makes you happy. doesn’t really understand text slang or acronyms either.
diluc secretly likes if you send cute animal pictures or videos to him while he’s at work. if the two of you have a pet together, sending pictures of that pet would make him absolutely melt.
he also enjoys receiving selfies of you! he’ll often time text compliments that are often too brazen to say irl. things like Your eyes catch the sunlight and glow like gemstones. in that picture or You look adorable. I hope you are having fun! if you text him a picture of you out at lunch with friends.
he might suck at texting, but messages from you give him a brief reprieve from work ;;;
likes to cook with you. if you don’t know how, he’ll make time to take cooking classes with you. he finds it romantic.
also likes to drive when the two of you are in the car together. sure, it’s partially because he’s the owner of a nice car, but he primarily does it for one reason: to see your flustered face when he puts his arm behind your headrest when he turns to check that it’s okay to back the car up. who cares if his car has a backup camera? he’s going to do it anyways.
kaeya
kaeya is less busy than diluc when it comes to work schedule. he more or less has the 40-50 hour work week and can relax on the weekends. much more of a stable schedule than his brother!
which means, of course, more kaeya time.
if you’re working late, he WILL make you dinner. he’s big on doing little things for his s/o and he LOVES the way your eyes light up when you see cooking, especially his cooking, waiting for you when you get home.
he prefers to go on dates outside of the house! the two of you take turns planning dates and he likes to get creative with his. there’s an old retro arcade in the city? he’s taking you there. a cute little speakeasy nestled into a newer part of town? kaeya will surprise you with it.
kaeya 100% gives me art museum vibes. surprisingly, he gets flustered when you say that he’s prettier than the paintings that line the walls.
SUPER big on fashion. have you seen how he makes his knight uniform look good? yeah. 100% is a fashionista and rocks it. will also help you with your wardrobe if you’re not confident in it!
seems like a guy who would actually like to go shopping. if you don’t go shopping with him, expect a bunch of selfies of him in the dressing room mirror asking if outfits look good.
wayyyy less of a formal texter than diluc but definitely is probably bad at responding to texts. he’ll see your texts, register them in his head, and be like “i will respond to that in a second!” then immediately gets distracted and forgets
so yeah, he leaves you on read a lot :( not intentionally !!! he’s apologetic when he does for too long.
prefers if you drive because he’s too busy trying to show off that he knows all of the lyrics to your joint playlist on spotify. yes, he’s even memorized the songs you added, if only to flex.
when the two of you go out drinking, a lot of times it’s not together. you go with your friends and he goes with his, but the two of you text each other throughout the night to ensure the other’s safety. it’s one of the few times he ensures that he doesn’t leave you on read.
when the two of you first move in with each other, he gets excited to buy new furniture with you and eagerly looks forward to all of the simple little tasks the two of you will have to complete in order to move in with each other.
plasters you all over his social media. probably loses a lot of followers because of it (after all, he’s a hot guy who is no longer single) but still posts you incessantly, as long as you’re comfortable with it. he doesn’t really care about anyone else.
will start talking about how awesome you are to girls/guys who try to slide into his dms. it scares them off.
he adores your cooking, even if you’re godawful at it. to him, anything you cook is a five star meal! he’s very supportive of everything you do, even if you’re objectively bad at it
surprisingly likes to play board games? i feel like he would be a chess guy, but monopoly and the likes are fun to him. he’s not the best at video games, but he’ll be effortlessly good at mariokart. it’s almost infuriating the way he stays completely calm throughout every game, win or lose.
very much an impromptu kind of guy when it comes to romance while diluc is more of a planner. kaeya figures the best moments to sweep you off your feet are when you aren’t expecting it!

prompt | anonymous asked: Could I get some general relationship headcanons (with some fluff please!) for Chishiya, Arisu, and Kuina 🥺👉👈 let me know if you need a more specific ask! :)
warnings | written with the intention of female pronouns but can be read as gender neutral, very minor suggestive implications, mentions of alcohol, nicotine and eating habits, might be considered kinda cheesy oops, the use of the pet name ‘bunny’.
word count | 1.4K
author’s note | ‘m loving this request. this is written with the intention of it being pre-borderlands.
Tumblr media
Shuntarō Chishiya
- Frequenting local cafes for routinely study dates. He helps you with topics that you may struggle on and you buy him the bizarre flavored ‘treat of the week’ as a thank you. He jokes around that you’re probably using him as a test subject, because who would order sweet potato brownies with the premise that they would taste good. Much to his surprise, they actually do.
- Visiting a cat cafe once, but not getting around to completing any work. The image of Chishiya cradling a fluffy kitten close to his chest and holding softened eye contact with it is now your permanent lock screen. He has a matching lock screen of you holding a kitten from under the armpits and touching noses with it.
- Learning new skills together. Chishiya is pretty much down for anything that he considers interesting enough. That’s how you ended up frustratingly trying to follow along to a complex origami cat tutorial at 2 in the morning as Chishiya worked quietly with his earbuds in, listening to a different tutorial. Only once he presented you with a perfect paper flower did you smile for the first time in the past hour, the frustration dissipating. That very flower has claimed its indefinite place on your bedside table, something that didn’t go unnoticed by him.
- Doing escape rooms together every so often. It baffles you to some degree how he figures things out so easily, but then again, you’ve known how smart your boyfriend was since the day you met so it shouldn’t really come as a surprise. You just can’t help but admire him, and voice these admirations out loud. Your compliments being the only ones which truly affect him.
- Despite how genius your boyfriend is, you remain concerned about the mental toll college might have on him. If he is stressed, he barely gives it away, but you’ve grown to read through his indifference and pick up when something is wrong - even if he’s attempting to hide it for your disburden. You allow him to de-stress in your arms, playing with the tips of his hair and speaking through what has got him so troubled.
- Late night dates that consist of trips to the corner store where you buy your favourite snacks and walk down to the beach together. It’s a relaxing way to wind down after a stressful week filled with work and college. If it’s not too cold that night, you substitute sitting on your usual bench for a stroll along the sand. If he finds a pretty seashell, Chishiya will give it to you wordlessly.
- He buys you a lot of small things that reminds him of you. A cute keychain he found by chance while buying groceries, splurging his money on a random claw machine because he spotted a plushie character from that show you really like, buying your favourite snacks to calm you down before a big exam that you’ve been studying really hard for. It’s the little things that show how much he really loves you.
Ryōhei Arisu
- Offering him a place to stay for a few days if he needs a break from his family, Arisu will pack up his gaming laptop along with him and you two will game with each other side by side. He anticipates the moment you rest your head on his shoulder and once you do, he rests his own head upon yours with a small: “you tired, bunny?”
- Being extremely supporting and non-judgemental on the topic of him getting a job. You search listings almost daily and send any promising ones through to him, leaving an encouraging message afterwards in hopes he gets the right intention. You care for him deeply and don’t want to see his father eventually kicking him out the house for being unemployed and making the situation ten times more difficult for him.
- Helping him get out more and introducing him to places he quickly grows to love. A quaint coffee shop with a grassy roof hidden deep within the cracks that he never would have found if it weren’t for you. It’s become your usual spot for dates, and Arisu enjoys the tranquility of it all.
- Going on trips to the game store together, even though Arisu usually just buys all his games online, and he’s pretty sure you do too. Regardless, it’s an excuse to meet up and hang out for a few hours after, something he’s found has become more enthralling than gaming.
- Staying up on video call into the late hours of the night as you both battle it out on some mmorpg. You’re confused when you see his idle avatar and look over at your phone screen to find him staring at you in a trance. It catches you off guard at first, but seeing him snap back to reality upon getting caught and getting all flustered left you replaying the scene over in your head for days later.
- Dates to the arcade, because of course. You two definitely hog a specific game with a line of pouting children waiting impatiently to get their chance. Arisu only agrees to move on when you mention a new game you spotted earlier. There is no new game, you just feel bad for the kids. Once he’s caught on, you merely give his lips a quick peck and you’re instantly forgiven.
- Playing in one of those immersive game machines with the curtains on both sides, only for Arisu to stare at you dumbly, leaving you a flustered and confused mess. This usually leads to a one-sided lean in and a small make out, only for an innocent kid to pull back the curtain and run away mortified. Their screams are the highlight of your boyfriend’s day, and you swear he’s holding some mental record of how many kids he traumatize through doing this.
Hikari Kuina
- Working at the same clothing store and having Kuina intervene whenever you’re faced with a rude customer. She might not be all too friendly if they insulted you, and if getting fired is the cost of standing up for you, then so be it. You’d quit alongside her and find some place new to work.
- Helping tend to her sickly mother in hospital, whom you had made speechless upon your first visit. She was delightfully thrilled upon finally being introduced to her daughter’s significant other, Kuina sharing to you afterwards that she hadn’t seen her mother smiling so brightly in a long time. You always present her mother with gifts upon each visit, whether it be flowers or a small cake. She’s become like your own mother, and so you help pay towards hospital bills as well.
- Comforting Kuina if she ever gets upset about her past (especially her relationship with her father) or her mother’s current poor health. You make her feel so valid; it leaves her a sobbing mess in your arms as you comfort her with soothing strokes and affectionate mumbles. Once her wailing has calmed, you offer to make her favourite - hot chocolate topped with cream.
- Constant sleepovers, which include wearing face masks, ordering takeout, watching some sappy romance before switching it over to an action movie and sipping on some cheap beer. The buzz of the alcohol always makes you more daring as you suggest showering together, and you’re never turned down by your equally audacious girlfriend.
- Helping her overcome her nicotine addiction and being the initial person to suggest chewing on a dummy cigarette whenever she felt the urge to smoke. Her mother couldn’t thank you enough for getting her into this, expressing her hidden fear of having to watch Kuina smoke herself into ill health or worse, a premature grave.
- In return, she looks out for your own well-being: reaching out to hold your hand before you both cross the street, showing up with lunch the next day at work if she thinks you haven’t been eating as much lately, keeping headache pills in her bag ever since you complained about a migraine that one time, keeping an extra umbrella in the break room just in case it rains later that day and you’ll need one.
- It’s never a dull moment dating Kuina, always planning fun and exciting dates like getting drunk in a private karaoke room only for it to lead to sloppy make outs. The one time she was so insistent on riding the kiddies train at the amusement park, only for the both of you to fall off once you reached the sharp bend in the tracks. It left you both a giggling mess, but the pain afterwards definitely made the whole situation regrettable.

Synopsis of Jay's Empire AU⚡⚡
[[Made by me and @culturalmochi ]]
The way it starts out is that Jay goes on a solo mission, finds the hard drive for Prime Empire, and gets trapped in the game.
Nobody knows where he went, so the ninja are desperately trying to find him.
Time in game moves a lot faster than in real life, so a few weeks for the ninja is a few months (close to a year) inside of the game.
Jay met Scott and he showed him the ropes of the game, but tried to subtly warn him about Unagami. Jay spent a lot of time leveling up and grinding so he could get high stats, but later found out that he wasn't able to leave or communicate with the outside world. Enter Unagami.
Unagami tells Jay that he sees potential in him, and that he's impressed with his progress through the game. They begin to have a sort of mentor/mentee kind of relationship.
Once again, time moves much faster in game. So jay starts to miss the real world and tells Unagami that he misses his friends. Unagami tells Jay, "if they were really your friends, they would have come back for you by now, wouldn't they?"
Later on, Jay is approached by none other than the ninja! His dearest friends finally coming back to rescue him and bring him home!
But as he spends more time with them, something feels... wrong. It turns out they're NPC's, and in his mission objective list, it says he has to "discard" them. So he does, and they crumble into little pixelated cubes. He levels up.
This repeats several times, each time the ninja dupes become more rude, indifferent, hateful. At some point they become so far removed from their true counterparts that the only thing in common they share is their appearances.
Then comes the time where Unagami is ready to open the game to the rest of the world. He brings Jay to help him spread the word by broadcasting an advertisement for Prime Empire.
That's when the ninja find out where Jay has been this whole time.
So the real gang enters Prime Empire and find Jay, who looks displeased to see them even if he tries to hide it.
Everyone is so happy to see him and to bring him out of the game, surrounding him with hugs and tears of joy.
But then Jay checks his objectives. "Discard the ninja". It's the same as it's always been, so he goes along with it.
But as Jay journeys with his friends through the game, he slowly comes to the realization that they aren't NPC's.. they're his real friends.
Scott, when he was first sucked in by the game, leveled up really fast and eventually gained the attention of Unagami. Unagami said he saw "great potential" in him and gave him access to the coding of the game. For Scott, this means he can essentially influence and change parts of the game, but not always by his own free will. With him being connected to the coding, that includes his thoughts, emotions, memories, trauma, etc. this connection also gave Unagami a way to keep track of where Scott was and what he was doing at all times.
so eventually, Unagami wants to bring empire to the physical world, but he needs help getting the world out. he tells Scott his plan and Scott is like "actually, fuck this :)" and escapes from Unagami. in order to keep him from tracking his every move, Scott cuts off his own connection to the game's code. He hunkers down in his hideout and tries to plot a way to a)escape and b)prevent Unagami from taking over the real world.
so finally, Jay enters the game! Scott finds him running away from red visors and picks him up and takes him to his hideout. Scott explains the general rules of the game, gives him tips on how to survive, glitches, cheats, all of it. but he tries to warn him about Unagami and Jay is too enraptured with the thrall of the game to pay any mind to Scott's warnings. Jay starts leveling up and progressing, very similar to how Scott did, and gained the same kind of attention from Unagami. he saw great potential in him. at that point, Scott says that Jay can't come to the hideout anymore, and Jay asks why. Scott says "i already told you, but you didn't listen to me." and so Jay goes to Unagami. Unagami promises him steep advantages in the game, protection, etc and Jay is going along with it because, to him, its still just a game. the gravity of the situation hasn't quite hit him yet. he doesn't know that he's trapped.
so now, Jay and Unagami have a sort of mentor/mentee kind of relationship, and Jay very much fits into the role of the teachers pet. the red visors are **VERY** protective of him and will often accompany him wherever he goes unless he tells them to leave (sometimes they listen, sometimes they dont). There is one red visor who is particularly close to Jay. she goes with him everywhere and is the most protective of him compared to the other RV's. Jay tries to talk with her sometimes, and one day he asks her what her name is. her voice glitches out a lot, like something is corrupted in her code. she repeats "four o-oh four-r-r AA e-rror-r four o-o-oh four-r AA" and Jay is like "hmm.. rora? can i call you rora?" and she just nods at him. (Rora becomes important later!!)
so anyways, going back to how Unagami has adopted Jay as his mentee, Jay has the same kind of access to the game's coding that Scott does. including the influence of his memories and past traumas. this manifests in several ways, but one of which is how the NPC clones of the ninja interact with him. Jay has a lot of issues with self esteem and often fears that nobody really cares about him, finds him annoying, etc. so with each iteration of the ninja dupes, they become meaner and meaner until the only resemblance they share to their irl counterparts is their physical appearance.
Jay (not realizing that Unagami is the one creating the dupes) goes to Unagami to vent about how he misses his friends and wishes they could join him in the game. Unagami tells Jay "if they were really your friends, they would have come for you by now. They probably forgot about you. but it's not you ever needed them anyways. here, you are powerful, loved by everybody, adored by the masses. in here, you are important." gotta love that gaslight gatekeep gameboss moment. eventually, Unagami is ready to bring prime empire to the physical world once he's seen Jay get to the same point that Scott was at. Unagami says that he needs Jays help to deliver the message, and that crossing the line between digital and physical means that Jay can go back to the real world while still maintaining the same power and reputation he has in the game. Jay agrees and works with Unagami to make an advertisement.
this is the advertisement script:

Do you have what it takes? Prove your worth and become part of Prime Empire!]
however, Scott has caught wind of the ad, and so he hacks into the broadcast and tries to warn everybody to "STAY OUT OF PRIME EMPIRE!!" but once again, his warnings fall on deaf ears.
however, now the ninja know where Jay has been all this time! they manage to be part of the 1st 100 players in the game and go to the super star rocking Jay event. Kai, Nya, Lloyd, Cole, pixal and zane all get in the game. but due to their own coding, pixal and zane despawn and get plopped back in the real world within the first 10mins of the game. They spend a lot of time outside of prime empire trying to find ways to re-enter the game.
so now we finally get to when the (remaining) ninja meet up with Jay, and he is disappointed at best when he sees them. but when they surround him with love and hugs and tears of joy, it throws him off guard. all of the NPC's were never this kind to him. He checks his objective menu and a new notification shows up. "discard the ninja". same as it's always been. part of the objective has always been to "not let the ninja know that you know they are fakes." but after all of this time, Jay has grown tired and so he doesn't really bother trying to keep up appearances. he won't flat out say that he thinks they're fakes, but his demeanor is completely off.
the ninja make it to okino and they start going through the forest, the cliffs, and finally the maze of the red dragon. throughout this time, there are several little moments that lead Jay to believe that these might be his real friends. he tries to write them off, but it keeps nagging at him. in the canon scene where Unagami pauses the game and talks to okino, its the same except its Jay that Unagami talks to. "just wanted to check in with you, everything is still going according to plan, correct?" Jay responds with "yes, but these ones are different. none of the other clones have acted so.. so close to my real friends." Unagami scoffs "these ones are just as fake as the others. make sure you complete your objective. we are very close to bridging the gap, and I wouldn't want anybody to hold you back from being at my side when we cross over." Jay agrees and the game resumes.
Jay has the perfect opportunity to let his friends perish at the hands of the dragon, but something in him screams at him to help them win. he points out the scale on the back of the dragon, they defeat it, and Jay gets the dragon summon. instead of keeping it, he gives it to Cole. "i figure you guys will probably need it more than me. I've got higher stats, i can take care of myself." (that dragon summon becomes important later) so ANYWAY now its time for the speedway 5billion. but they don't have enough credits so they have to get some extra money. the gang goes to the dance battle, but! theres also a karaoke battle they have to participate in. Jay and Cole sing Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears for Fears (this song is also important later!) and they win the contest and get enough credits to enter the race. however...
by this point in time, Jay is pretty sure that this group is his **real** friends, and he doesn't feel like he can go through with his objective anymore. besides, would clones really dance with him? sing his favorite songs with him? watch out for him when danger approaches? smile at him with such kindness and sincerity? clones wouldnt, but his real friends would. once again, his connection to the code means that Unagami is able to track him, and also take peeks into his mind. Unagami senses this realization and pauses the game again to confront him. "Jay, you must not let these clones cloud your judgement. you still have a mission to complete." Jay says "Unagami, these aren't dupes! they're really my friends, and they came back for me! i can't just "discard" them like you want me to. I won't!" "you WILL if you ever want to leave this digital space. if you will not join me in bridging the gap, then you will be left in here for all of eternity. the choice is yours, Jay walker." and with that, the game resumes.
the ninja are all talking and they realize that Jay has gone silent. "Jay? you good?" Kai asks. Jay snaps out of it and reassures them that he's fine. but thats when he sees *him*. in the crowd of NPC's bustling about the city, he sees nadakhan. staring at him with that evil, calculated grin and begins approaching them. Jay's eyes go wide and his stomach drops. "are you sure you're okay?" Lloyd asks. "we.. we need to get out of here. we need to leave *now*" Jay says with a quiet, wavering voice. Just as he moves to flee, Nya gasps.
It was the scene of Nya dying. She was cradled in Jay's arms, muttering her last words before going completely limp. The master of lightning shook with broken sobs, clinging to his friend as if holding her tight enough could bring her back. That was the day that Jay Walker had lost everything.
And now, that moment was set on an infinite loop, broadcasted on every screen in the capital city of Prime Empire.
Jay was frozen, unable to do anything but succumb to his rising panic.
Nya was in a similar state, feeling the sharp pains of her chest that came from her old wound. She remembered dying, the pain and vulnerability. Now her final moments were in full display.
The rest of them gazed in horror and confusion, unable to comprehend what was going on. Jay thinks he heard Kai yelling, maybe he was asking why his sister was dying over and over again. Cole sounded like he was trying to warn everyone about the approaching assailants. Those of which looked like clones of the Misfortune's crew, including their tyrannical captain.
It was all too much. Jay felt his digital blood freeze in his veins, his air cutting off entirely, and his vision slowly turning to static.
Nadakhan. Nya. Tiger widow venom. Kai. Nadhakan. Nya. Zane. Cole. Nya. Lloyd. Nadakhan. Nya. Nya. Nya. N-
Jay's friends tried to reach for him, to help him, but then it happened.
An explosion of lightning burst from Jay's body, flooding through the city with blue and white pixelated sparks. And once the wave had passed, the city went dark. The screens that were looping that wretched day were now idle. The Misfortune's crew were nowhere to be seen. Jay had fallen unconscious.
"What are you guys doing here?" Scott asked, his face contorted in concern.
"Scott, it- its Jay. He had this weird power surge and he-" Lloyd stuttered before him and his friends were roughly yanked inside of Scott's hideout.
Cole was carrying Jay's limp body, and followed Scott's instructions to lay him on the workbench. But not before he had thrown all of his tools and blueprints on the ground in a rush.
"What did you say? About a power surge?"
"It was-" Lloyd started again
"It was like he exploded," Kai cut in, "we've never seen his element act like that."
"The city, it went dark." Nya added.
"And there was something going on with the city screens, they were showing-" said Cole.
"My sister dying! Over and over again! That's not part of the game, right?!"
"Guys guys! Chill the fuck out, one at a time." Scott demanded. They all went quiet before Nya spoke up.
"The screens showed one of Jay's memories. One of his most traumatic ones. NPC's started changing into people that.. are related to that memory. They started attacking us from all sides. Jay had gone into a panic attack before he surged. That wave of power blew out the whole city's power and everything went dark. After that he passed out."
Scott looked at her with a look of dread.
"This is worse than I thought.."
"What do you mean worse? Scott, what's wrong with Jay?" Cole asked. Scott sighed.
"He's.. he's become part of the game."
"Like an NPC?" Lloyd said.
"No, not an NPC. His memories, his soul, his life force- it's bleeding into the coding of the game. His emotions and memories are able to affect the behavior of the game. Environments, NPCs, everything."
"How do you know all of that, Scott?" Nya interjected.
"Because he's just like me."
"What??" The ninja said in unison.
"When I first came into the game, Unagami wanted me to bring Prime Empire to the real world. To break out of this digital prison and conquer the rest of the physical world. I agreed to help him because I didn't see any other way out of this hellscape. He granted me access to the code. So I'm just as connected to Prime Empire as Jay is. My memories are there too.
But the thing is, is that I've cut myself off of the code. It's the only way I could hide from Unagami, since I had abandoned ship and didn't want to help him anymore. I'm a threat because I can affect the code.
But if I don't connect to it, I stay hidden.
But Jay, his connection is so strong by this point. Everything he does changes the game.
He's gonna be okay, for now, but I can't guarantee the same for all of you." Scott finished, his eyes sunken and tired.
"Wh- what are we supposed to do then? How can we get Jay out of here?" Kai asked.
"Beat the game. As far as I know, there's no other way out of here."
They all looked at each other, faces grim but determined.
"Well we can't leave here without Jay, can we stay here until he wakes up?" Said Nya.
"Absolutely not." Scott replied.
"What? Why??" Cole butted in.
"The longer you guys stay here, with h i m, the more danger all of us are in. Jay is part of the coding, Unagami can find him. And that means he can find u s."
"Well how do we wake him up? There's gotta be some way!" Lloyd pleaded.
Scott looked at Jay's unconscious form.
"Fuck, okay, let me try something."
so Scott does the only thing he can think of that might work. he reconnects himself to the game's code in order to "plug in" to Jay and wake him up. when he plugs in, Scott sees Jay in a dark, endless room. he's crouched on the ground, sobbing and shaking
But thrashing from his body is manifestations of his trauma, like a horrible amalgamation that is distorting his physical form and its. Horrifying.
Scott looks at him and tries to approach him without getting hurt
He gets to him and he makes contact with his shoulder and then the surge of energy happens and he gets unplugged and shot across the room, and Jay wakes up with a start, chest heaving and his eyes still wet with tears. Cole is there right next to Jay, and Jay clings onto him like a lifeline. Kai wraps his arms around Jay too and they hold him and comfort him as best they can. Lloyd and Nya go over to Scott to see if he's okay. he groans and sits up, Lloyd and Nya help him stand. "what happened? what was that??" Nya asks. "I woke him up. but its not safe anymore. you guys have to get him out of here, or else Unagami is gonna show up and if he does.. well its safe to assume it'll be game over for all of us."
"we still have to win the highway 5billion and get the second keytana." Cole says, "and we need cars." Scott sighs at this, "i've got cars you can use, i won't be using them very much anymore anyways." "what does that mean?" Kai asks. "did you not hear me? its game over. you guys have to get Jay out of here." Scott says. "Scott, you know the game better than anyone, we need your help. will you race with us?" Nya pleads. Scott is about to reject when he looks at Jay. Jay is looking at him with a look that breaks his heart. "fine. I'll race with you guys."
so they fix up the cars and enter the SW5B and Scott is like "i guess if we're going in, i might as well get a new look." so he customizes his avatar (if u check my post with his redesign, thats the avatar he has, the glowing parts of his outfit change colors!) and they start the race! Scott doesn't have his own car, instead he's jumping from vehicle to vehicle and taking out the other drivers so that the ninja can win. he uses his baseball bat as a melee weapon but it can also shoot lasers! Kai still gets that loot box upgrade and has the running mech, and just like in canon, Cole and Kai get cubed. so does Scott, he gets run over lol. now its just Jay, Nya, and Lloyd and they make their way to the temple of madness.
then we have the fight. in canon its Lloyd and harumi, but in this au, Jay enters the arena instead. he gets in and the game picks his fighter. expecting it to be someone he's fought before, he prepares himself. but nothing could have prepared him for who he saw standing in front of him. it was echo zane.
Nya stares in horror and Lloyd is confused. "who is that? that can't be zane, right? why would he be part of the game?" Lloyd asks. Nya can't say anything, and neither can Jay. Jay wants to give up, he cant fight echo. someone who helped him in the most dire of times, only to be left alone on that island for the rest of eternity. Jay had never gone back for him, and that guilt he felt had just kicked into high gear having to look echo in the eyes. but then echo starts attacking him, and Jay has to defend himself. Jay wins, and sees echo disappear after the final blow. the walls of the arena disappear and Jay falls to his knees. Lloyd and Nya move in immediately to help him up. "seriously, what the hell is going on?? why aren't you guys saying anything??" Lloyd demands. "we can't talk about it right now, Lloyd. we'll have to tell you later." Nya says quietly. her voice is tight and dies in her throat. Lloyd gets the hint and doesn't push it any further.
so the three of them make it through the sushi restaurant and make it to the gate with the 3 keytanas. Jay, Lloyd, and Nya go to put in the blades and they open the gate. standing in front of them is none other than Unagami. "Jay, you have disappointed me. you were so important, so valued, and you have thrown that away for the sake of your so-called 'friends'. thankfully, there is still a place for you." Unagami says. "i don't WANT a place with you! you've hurt me, you've hurt my friends, you've hurt so many innocent people. all of those cubes? those are REAL PEOPLE! i can't let you do this Unagami. I won't let you get away with this." Jay says defiantly. Unagami sighs, "i was hoping it would not come to this. but if you chose to act this way, you will face the consequences. you will help me bridge this gap, whether you like it or not." and Unagami holds out his hands. an intense blue beam of light bursts from his palms and hits Jay square in the chest. the light is absorbed by his body and his form begins to glitch and spasm violently. mochi and i have called this the Blue Screen of Death. (tw for mild(?) body horror) Jay is overcome by the blue and his body begins to grow and distort, all the while he's screaming and his cries are glitched out and staticky. Lloyd and Nya watch, frozen in fear as their friend begins to grow to massive size, writhing in agony. Jay thrashes and knocks into both of them, sending them off the side of the platform and cubing them. the last two energy cubes join the gate and Jay crawls through.
(with this scene, in the background, the lorde version of everybody wants to rule the world would be playing, just as a nice parallel to the song from earlier at the karaoke battle)
MEANWHILE, as pixal and zane attempted to find ways to get back into the game, find milton dyer, etc, zane gets captured by the mechanic. everything goes the same as it does in canon where the mechanic hooks zane up to the gate.
and now, we get a look at where everybody who got cubed resides. Scott, when he was cubed, was greeted by Unagami personally. he criticized him for his actions and expressed his disappointment before ultimately locking him inside of a digital cell. Scott figured that this was how the rest of his life would be, trapped in a cage with no way out and no way to die. but then! Rora shows up. that corruption in her system from the beginning? that was her beginning to break away from her coding and becoming more of a person. she saw what happened to Jay, and she wants to help him. she breaks Scott out and they agree to work together to save Jay. but they're gonna need all the help they can get. together, Scott and rora free the ninja and all of the other cubed players and they make it through the portal.
and thats where they see Jay, now as tall as the skyscrapers in ninjago city and wreaking havoc on the entire area.
everyone looks up at him in utter horror and see just how corrupted he's become. he's wailing in pain as he drives his guitar down on building after building. thrashing and flailing, causing the structures around him to crumble and collapse. "how the fuck are we gonna fix this?!" Nya cries. "i can help." Unagami approaches them. everyone gets into fighting stances, ready to beat Unagami into the pavement. "i did not realize that corrupting him would turn out like this. i know how to fix him, but i need your help." "why should we help YOU?" Kai growls. "if you want to save your city and your friend from complete destruction, you *will* help me." and so Unagami explains that if they can lure Jay back through the portal, Unagami can undo his corruption and fix Jays "coding"
so now the ninja are trying to figure out how to get Jay's attention and bring him back through the portal. it seems like nothing is working, and then Cole gets an idea. he starts singing the lyrics to everybody wants to rule the world. it seems to get Jay's attention, so he keeps singing.
the others hear him and they join in. now they have Jay's attention, and he's closing in on them. that dragon summon from earlier? now thats when that comes in handy. Cole calls the digidragon and rides it so that Jay cant crush him while he lures him back to the portal. low and behold, they manage to get Jay through the portal, Unagami purifies his "coding" and they return to the physical world once again. Unagami gets to have his talk with milton and all of the npcs+pcs that want to come out do, and the others stay in the game. the city is in shambles, the portal closes, and zane+pixal+wu reunite with the others.
the car ride home is very quiet. everyone is exhausted, Jay is asleep and leaning on Cole's shoulder. they have a lot to talk about, but for now, they just want to sleep through the night. they make it home, go to their separate rooms, and go to bed.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand thats pretty much all of it!! theres a little epilogue that has snippets of what Scott, racer 7, okino, and rora do now that they're outside of the game, but thats just kinda there lol.
