a little while ago, i got this ask asking me if i could make some sort of introduction to the pierre/charles ship and all its lore. and since they are, without question, my f1 rpf OTP, my answer was oh my god yes of course. it's taken me a little while to compile all that lore - because boy, is there a lot - but it's been one of the happiest research projects of my life, without question. and i think it's finally ready to go!! so, with no further ado...

ABOUT PIARLES: a (not-so-brief) introduction to f1 rpf's french friends to lovers ship

so the first thing you need to know about piarles is that they're childhood best friends. not that uncommon in a sport like f1, to be fair - most of the drivers grew up together, racing against each other in karting. but pierre and charles are a little different in that they aren't just karting acquaintances: the two of them (and their entire families) are genuinely good friends.

in fact, if you ask either pierre or charles about the other (and interviewers often do) one of the first things they'll probably say is "we've known each other for a long time," quickly followed by "we used to go on holiday together when we were kids." and they ALWAYS say this with the fondest expressions 🥰 even if you take shipping completely out of the equation, it's clear that these two have a very long-standing and very close friendship, with many fond memories which both of them seem to treasure very much.

in charles' own words:

"Pierre! We know each other since... a long, long time. We used to go on holidays together when we were children with our parents, and uh... we did quite a bit of mess together when we were children, but (laughs) very good memories. And the relationship never really changed throughout the years, even though we have taken different paths, because he was a bit older, so we weren't always in the same categories. But we would always call each other, text each other, go on holidays together... and yeah, I just have so many memories." (source - watch from timestamp 2:06)

pierre tells a very similar story:

"He's definitely one of my best friends. Charles is a very nice person and an incredible driver. We met when we were 9 years old and created a very strong bond. Our parents are very close, and we went on vacations from when we were 10, so we created lots of memories. We were teammates in karting when we were 12, and today we find ourselves in Formula 1. It's a pretty incredible story. But for me the most important part is to see the person he's become, and he hasn't changed since he was young." (source)

i think it's important to note that these aren't the only times pierre and charles have spoken about each other in glowing terms like this - no, it happens quite frequently. pretty much every time they're asked about each other, tbh. (i'm not going to add quotes from every single time here, though, because we would be here for the rest of the month if i tried. 😅) the point is, piarles are pretty damn close, and think very highly of each other.

but it's not just them that are close: like i mentioned in the first paragraphs of this post, their families are close, too. they really are childhood friends in that "your family is practically my second family" sense, which i think is something really special.

here, for example, is pierre's father jean-jacques talking about charles:

Charles is part of the family. We've known him since he was nine and when he started in karting with Pierre. (...) When the races were in England Charles was sleeping at our place, and when the races were in Italy, Pierre was sleeping at Charles's place. Then Pierre moved to F4. I don't think there have ever been a big rivalry between them even though their careers were similar. Charles is part of the family probably even more since Hervé passed away. Our door will always be open for him and he knows.” (source)

what's more, charles has also said numerous times that it's hard to maintain true friendships in f1 - but his bond with pierre is one of those rare exceptions:

It’s rare I think, it’s very rare to have a sincere friendship in F1, because there’s a lot of competition. So yes there’s friendship, but it’s not always entirely sincere - but with Pierre it really is, and it has always been. (source)

they're friends. they really are friends, not just friendly coworkers, like many of the other f1 drivers are. pierre and charles genuinely like and appreciate each other's company very much - which, even if you put shipping completely aside, is just such a wonderful thing, and always makes me smile so much.

one of my personal favourite moments was when pierre talked about charles on the beyond the grid podcast in 2023:

"That's why I really like these chats that I can have with Charles, because I know with Charles, discussing about both our lives, we won't judge each other... because we know what it's like and we just speak very openly about various things. And I know it's almost like a happy place or a comfortable place where you really feel you can open up. He'll understand, I'll understand him..." (source - listen from timestamp 32:01)

if that doesn't make your heart melt at least a little bit, then i don't know what to say to you.

... no, actually, i do. if this kind of sentimentality won't do it for you, how about a bit of silliness and humour?

that's right. like any good childhood friends, pierre and charles also have an embarrassing nickname for each other: "calamar," which is french for "squid." (we know that they call each other that courtesy of charles' insta).

what on earth is the origin of this nickname, you may be wondering? well, according to pierre...

"It goes back to a long time ago when we were kids, like... nine, ten years old. We would go on holidays together and spend more time. I don't know. It just came, like one day we decided to call each other calamar, which is not really such a beautiful nickname, but yeah it was just for fun. We were kids and we were laughing. And actually, we have many other nicknames because we were teammates also in karting and we spent a lot, a lot of time together. So, a lot of nicknames came alongside all this time. And this kind of stayed with us." (source)

as pierre said in this quote, "calamar" is not even the only nickname they have - pierre sometimes calls charles "charlito" and also "charlo," while charles calls pierre "mon petit."

and as if that's not enough, they're also that pair of boyfriends friends who always have to bring each other up in conversation. if there's ever an interview question along the lines of "which f1 driver would you...." then you can pretty much bet pierre will answer "charles," and charles will answer "pierre."

for example, here is pierre choosing charles as the one f1 driver he'd take for a drink. and here is charles naming pierre as his best friend in the paddock. oh, and here is pierre saying he'd choose charles as one driver to take with him to a desert island. there's more, but i think you get the idea 😆❤️

so yeah! that's a quick(ish) overview of the background/context of piarles - AKA the french (yes, i know charles is monégasque, but he SPEAKS french) friends/boyfriends on the grid.

but now that i've painted a pretty clear picture of their friendship, let's move on to some more shippy moments, shall we? the "lovers" part of friends to lovers <3333

believe it or not, eveything up till now was just the background information about piarles. it's more than enough to build an OTP on already, i'd say - but wait, there's more!

the thing with pierre and charles is that along with being friends, they are also french (or....french-adjacent. close enough) which means that they have absolutely zero problem with being very openly affectionate with each other.

this has given us some very delicious shipping moments, which i will now try and give an overview of. (my fellow piarlies: if i've left out one of your favourite moments, please forgive me - they have so many moments with each other, and tumblr has a post character limit, so there was just no way for me to include everything, much as i wanted to. but i do think this is a good introduction!)

let's start with perhaps the most iconic piarles moment of them all: monza 2020, aka pierre gasly's first win in f1.

that was a crazy, wonderful day in so many ways - first of all, the race itself was insane. pierre started 10th on the grid, and with a lot of luck + a safety car that really worked out for him, ended up leading the race and defended from carlos sainz with DRS to get his maiden win. this was almost exactly a year after he'd been dropped from red bull, so the win was pretty much the biggest fuck-you to everyone @ RBR and comeback moment for pierre that was possible. it was also a dream come true (every f1 driver dreams about winning a race!) and you only need to look at any interview pierre did afterwards to see how much it meant to him.

what makes it even more insane, though, is that charles was right there to congratulate him and watch his podium. keep in mind that, in the same race, charles crashed out - both ferraris did, in monza of all places. i don't think anyone would've been surprised, or held it against him at all, if charles just kept his head down for the rest of that day.

but no. even though he wasn't medically cleared after the crash yet (!!) charles went to parc fermé anyway to congratulate pierre. remember that thing i said about them being french and very open with affection? well:

you can also watch it in video format here - and yes, charles really did pull pierre out of his hug with romain so that he could congratulate him himself. i know. (also, yes, pierre does pat charles' ass just before they go their separate ways. what can i say? french.)

as if that's not already insane enough, charles also stayed to watch pierre's podium despite not being medically cleared yet after his crash. (we have to thank netflix FOREVER for providing us with that specific behind-the-scenes shot 🙏 drive to survive - you did well that time, you really did.)

and afterwards, charles said:

It was just a dream for one of us to get into F1 one day. In the end we’re both in F1, we’ve both won a GP, both of us in Monza. (...) I was really happy that day, even if my race went wrong, his win made it a good day. (source)

your honour. who says that about another driver's win, especially on a day where you yourself had an awful race? if that's not love in a sport like f1, i don't know what is!

i really could talk about monza 2020 and how much it means for a very long time, but i will rein myself in to just one final comment: isn't it rather beautiful to think that pierre & charles' names will always be next to each other in the monza winners list? charles won there in 2019, and then pierre won there in 2020. talk about soulmatism ❤️💙

now, moving on to another absolutely iconic (and delightfully gay) piarles moment: baku 2021, aka that time pierre and charles had an awesome last-lap battle for the P3 podium spot.

it was very close racing, with them swapping positions several times down the straight - but they kept it clean. in fact, they kept it so clean that someone remarked it's like they know each other by heart. yup. totally a normal thing to say about two men racing.

equally normal was charles' comments after the race:

"The last lap was my favourite part of the race. It was crazy and had a lot of actions. With Pierre it was hot. I'm happy for him for his podium." (source)

and as if that's not enough, he also GRABBED pierre into a hug in parc fermé, and then held him incredibly close while congratulating him.

you can watch this hug in video format here and gif format here, if you want - and i really recommend doing so, because it's insane to see how charles quite literally crashes into pierre's personal space and yanks him into a hug. (here is a close-up of their helmets during said hug - and you can just say it with me. GAY.)

that's still not all, though: charles congratulated pierre twice after the race. once on the outlap (with a thumbs-up and a middle finger as pierre's car drove past his, LMAO) and then on social media as well (with a nickname and a kiss emoji).

he ALSO commented on pierre's instagram post about the race with another kiss emoji:

so, apparently, charles was thinking about kissing pierre quite a lot in baku 2021. 🤭 an iconic day all around!

and as it happens, 2021 brought us another iconic piarles moment - though this one is a whole less happy. i'm talking about styria 2021, aka that time pierre and charles had contact in a race, and pierre had to retire from that grand prix.

here is the official f1 news article about the incident - the long and the short of it is that charles misjudged on lap 1 and crashed into the side of pierre's car, ending pierre's race. naturally, pierre was furious and upset, especially because the alphatauri was actually a good car in 2021, and he'd stood to score really good points that sunday.

now, for most f1 girlies, an incident like this between childhood friends immediately brings up vivid brocedes flashbacks. and, to be honest, it wouldn't have been that much of a surprise if this had indeed soured pierre and charles' friendship - we saw exactly this happen with pierre and esteban, after all.

but no. charles went to see pierre post-race to clear the air between them, and although pierre was furious with him, he didn't let it ruin their friendship. in fact, when he was asked how the incident affected their friendship, pierre had the following to say:

"Yeah... I was really sad to end 15 years of friendship. He is no more my friend (laughs). No, no, it's... honestly, it was really painful, you know, you work so hard the whole weekend for Sunday to score points, and then after literally like 20 seconds, the whole race was over. So, quite a difficult one to swallow, but, you know, we know each other, with Charles, we have a lot of respect for each other. He came to see me after the race - I was still pretty pissed off with him, but, uh, we knew before last Sunday, nothing ever happened between us on the race-track, and we knew one day it would happen. Unfortunately I paid the price more than him, but yeah, it's racing, unfortunately. (...) It's painful, it's racing, it happens sometimes - I just told him to make sure it doesn't happen another time, and... we're fine." (source - watch from 17:01)

i think that styria 2021 is vital piarles lore not because it's a fun shippy moment, but rather because it shows the strength of their connection. an incident like this could easily have destroyed their friendship, but they didn't let it. they mean enough to each other that they let what happens on-track stay on-track and not affect their closeness off-track. and that, i think, is something truly special - they were tested in a way which has destroyed f1 friendships before, and yet they still came out stronger.

iconic indeed.

on a happier note again, now, there is also montreal 2022, which many piarles fans consider one of THE seminal piarles moments. the race itself was not so memorable for our boys this time, but what they did off-track is.

that is to say: pierre and charles went on a dinner date. then, they were spotted driving around the streets of montreal in a white ferrari. and THEN, as if that's not mind-blowing enough already... charles posted, to his public instagram story, a video of pierre wearing his charles-leclerc-16 branded ferrari hat.

these screenshots are peanut quality, i'm sorry, lmao... but all of montreal 2022 feels a bit like a fever dream in the best way, so i think the blurriness just captures the vibes, tbh.

we're not quite done with montreal 2022 yet, though - earlier on the same day, charles also had a very sweet hello with pierre's parents. you can just SEE how much pierre's parents love charles, and isn't that just the most heartwarming thing 😭❤️

now, one final thing about montreal 2022: pierre never posted his infamous photo dump after that race. that might not seem particularly important, but... this is the only race of 2022 for which pierre DIDN'T post a photo dump.

there are a thousand and one theories about why he didn't - maybe he just forgot, maybe he had a busy weekend, maybe he didn't have any photos he wanted to share. or, in a more shippy interpretation... maybe he does have photos, especially photos of charles, but he doesn't want to share them/wants to keep them all to himself. we don't know!

one lucky piarlie got to meet pierre in london in 2022 at an alphatauri event, and actually asked him about the montreal photo dump thing. here is what he said (courtesy of the lovely @they-call-it-traffic 💞)

the descriptions there... you can just picture pierre's expressions & smirks SO perfectly, right? he is insane. they are insane. #investigatemontreal !!

anyways. moving on one year again: 2023 brought us pierre and charles' basketball date:

as well as two tennis dates:

(i call them "dates" because pierre and charles spent a significant time together during them, hanging out & enjoying each other's company and looking at each other with major heart-eyes. obviously, irl, they aren't officially dates - in fact, both pierre and charles had their irl girlfriends along with them when they attended wimbledon. but who cares too much about irl -- this is a rpf post 😉)

i'm not going to spend too long explaining the lore behind these, because i'm already flirting with the tumblr post character limit 🙈 but basically, what happened is that on all 3 these occasions, pierre and charles chose to hang out together at events completely unrelated to f1, simply because they are friends and like each other's company. (that, to me, is always a measure of how much f1 drivers actually like each other - whether or not they choose to spend time with each other when they're not forced into proximity by f1. pierre and charles pass this test with flying colours.)

the basketball date is particularly insane, because that day was actually an event which charles, pierre and esteban attended. but you wouldn't know THAT from charles' post about it. charles fully cropped esteban out of his post - he really said "esteban who? i only spent time with my friend pierre 😌" and he said it with his whole chest.

ALSO, while we're on the subject of the basketball date and social media - pierre and charles co-posted a reel about it on instagram. yes. CO-POSTED. you know, like a couple co-posting about their date.

(P.S. - a lot of piarles fans refer to this 2023 basketball date as "basketball date 2.0" - and this is because pierre and charles have actually done this before, in 2021. i really can't talk too much about that date - character limit, my beloathed - but let me just say that pierre draping his arm round the back of charles' chair is something that lives rent free in my mind. rent free.)

another thing that lives in my mind rent-free is charles being interviewed at their first tennis date, and calling pierre his best friend <3333 love is friendship set on fire, etc etc!

... so, okay, when i said i wasn't going to talk too much about the lore behind the tennis & basketball dates, i lied a little bit. but in my defence - they were insane for these, they really were!

anyways. now, let's skip back in time a little - because i would be very remiss if i didn't include pierre and charles' 2016 joint championship celebrations.

in the year 2016, pierre was the GP2 champion and charles the GP3 champion (GP2 and GP3 are the old names for F2 and F3). in a very pretty twist of fate, they both clinched their respective titles at the same circuit, in the final race of their respective series - and then, of course, they celebrated together.

here is an adorable gifset of them celebrating together after the final GP2 race. and here are some more pictures from the official Prema photoshoot for the GP2 & GP3 champions (yes, they did a joint photoshoot together. even Prema ships it, apparently!)

actually, while we're on the subject of celebrating together: pierre and charles almost always congratulate each other for their significant achievements in f1. see: charles making a point to congratulate pierre on his podium in baku, as i discussed earlier in this post, and again in zandvoort 2023. (both times with a kiss emoji, mind you). similarly, check out pierre seeking charles out in parc fermé to congratulate him for his bahrain 2022 season-opener pole, and then congratulating him for his win twice over on social media. (and these are just a few examples out of many!)

this is one of those things that sets them apart from many other f1 rpf pairings: they both seem genuinely happy when the other does well. and like. they are COMPETITORS - but they're good enough friends that they can still celebrate each other's achievements genuinely and happily. that is insane!!

yes, sure, it's good sportsmanship to congratulate other drivers for wins/podiums - but that is usually done with a handshake in person or a copy-paste "congrats to XYZ" in the post-race interview, or something like that. one rarely gets the sense that it comes from a place of genuine, deep happiness for the other driver being congratulated.

pierre and charles are just on a whole different level. they specifically seek each other out in parc fermé, hug each other with so much enthusiasm that it looks suspiciously gay, and also post about each other's achievements very fondly on social media.

again, this is something you might see a driver do for their teammate - for example, charles congratulating "carlos and the team" for a win in singapore - but almost never with a freaking KISS EMOJI. and a pet name. and so much genuine joy.

just... yeah. they care about each other so much, and are each other's biggest supporters ❤️

it's not just in good times that they're there for each other, either: 2019 was a truly difficult year for both pierre and charles (pierre especially) but they were still there for each other when it mattered.

the prime example of this is monza 2019, which was one race after pierre's demotion from red bull, and also one race after anthoine hubert's death. because the fia has no sense of basic kindness or decency, naturally they put pierre into a press conference that very weekend.

the video of that press conference is very hard to watch - every time pierre is asked a question, you can hear how much he is struggling to hold it together. honestly, the sole good thing from this presscon is that at least pierre had charles beside him.

here is a post i made where i discuss this in a bit more detail, but essentially: charles sat as close as possible to pierre for the entirety of that conference - close enough that their shoulders were practically touching - as a non-verbal gesture of support. you can see the difference in space between charles & pierre vs all the other drivers, and there's no way that was accidental. charles might not have been able to voice his support for pierre out loud right then, but it's there in every part of his body language.

another very meaningful moment is also from 2019, when pierre went up to charles pre-race in spa:

"I told Charles before the race, please win this race for Anthoine." (source)

and charles did. 💙

then later in 2019, when pierre got his first podium in brazil, guess who was right there to hug and congratulate him? that's right.

this was another case where charles' own race fell apart - he had a crash with his teammate, in fact - but he still made a point of going to hug pierre after his P2, and going on social media to tell pierre and also the whole world that pierre deserved that podium. that's what i call supporting your best friend.

now, at this point, you might be thinking... well, pierre and charles have it all. whether you're looking for happy moments or deep emotional moments or suspiciously gay moments to fuel your shipping fire, it's all there.

and you'd be right! they do have it all. though i will say this - one of the complaints i've heard whispered around this fandom is that piarles is a fun ship, but they don't have any content videos together like teammates do. so it's harder to ship them, because you don't get to see them actually interact with each other aside from like 5-second video clips...

to that i say: well. they might not have any teammate videos together, but oh boy. as of 2023, they do have something else: the squeezie video.

i could talk about the squeezie video for MONTHS, i really could - but let me try and keep it brief. so, squeezie is this french youtuber who has this "who's the impostor?" video series in which he gets a couple of celebrities to join him on the show, plus some people from a certain profession, and then they have to guess who actually does that profession and who's the impostor.

the day that pierre and charles were guests on the show, the professions were "firefighter," "midwife," "flight attendant" and "school counselor." this resulted in absolute chaos of the best kind - ah, man, i cannot even begin to describe to you what a glorious mess it was. that video had everything from charles & pierre cradling fake babies, to charles & pierre extremely dramatically accusing each other of lying, to pierre making dirty hand gestures while charles blushes profusely, to charles & pierre play-acting being naughty schoolkids (feat. charles saying he fell asleep in class and woke up from a nightmare screaming "box box" 😭)

anyways! you can watch the video here. my recommendation is to watch it with the original french sound track - there is an english dub available, but it sounds incredibly strange to hear american accents coming out of pierre & charles' mouths, off-sync with what they're actually saying. it's a MUCH better experience to watch in french, so you can hear what they actually said, and enjoy how they interact with each other. aside from all the still-can't-believe-they-actually-did-this-on-camera content, one of the things that makes me feel the most insane is that pierre and charles both chose to appear on this video. there was no contractual PR requirement saying they both had to participate in it, like with teammate challenges - no, they did it in their free time, because they wanted to.

i mean, sure, that video was definitely good for PR for both of them, but the point stands that they didn't have to do it, and they certainly didn't have to do it together. they CHOSE to - and what's more, they said at the end of the video that they'd do it again.

that's so central to pierre and charles, i think: they choose each other, time and time again. they freely choose to spend time with each other, because they genuinely like each other and enjoy each other's company. so much so that you will find them together at least once on almost every race weekend.

no, seriously. it's a very unusual race weekend if pierre and charles aren't spotted together at least one time. whether it's being glued to each other's sides on driver's parades, or chatting in the background of some or other interview, or just walking through the paddock together... they will find each other.

there are SO many instances where this happens that i would be here for over a month if i tried to list them all - and i'd still probably miss some. but here are some of my personal highlights!

that's another thing that makes me more than a little insane about these two: pierre has actually said, in so many words, that they'll never share everything about their friendship.

In the end we have the same life, we grew up together. We've done many things together, but you won't hear about all of it. (source)

all these moments that we see, that we go insane over... that's probably not even the half of what they've actually done together. and that makes me feel some type of way. if this is just the small pieces of their lives & interactions that they choose to share with the public, then just imagine what else there could be...

....buuuuut that'll start becoming a fanfic if i let myself carry on with that line of thinking too long. (can i just say one thing about that, though? the piarles fanfic community is absolutely INCREDIBLE. such talented writers, such wonderful people... just, chef's kiss all around!!) but, yeah! i think this post has gone on for more than long enough now, haha.

so, to conclude: pierre and charles really are the epitome of a friends to lovers ship: they get along famously, they genuinely seem to love each other's company and are always laughing together - and they can very often be found giving each other the heart-eyes/looking at each other like they're in love. if it's warmth, joy and friends to lovers feels that you're after, then look no further <3333

No offense to anyone but genuinly the Babby Shuggy moments not only made me ship it but also make me not understand people who feel like their dynamic in canon isn’t „all that interesting“ after they split. „They haven’t seen each other in years. They are different people now. They aren’t thinking and regretting their splitting 24/7!“ okay, but also like…. You don’t want them to have more screentime after the flashback that can just really flesh out how they changed? You don’t think Buggy fucking up upwards coupled with Shanks actual epicness while still being the type of guy to be chill with Buggy and congratulate him for fucking up upwards would be fun? You don’t even want them to have that cool anime shonen type thing where they work together for a while and get into a fight and get a full page panel of them ready to kick ass while standing back to back? (The „What? You’re fighting too?“ scene from Kingdom Hearts may be overused but it comes to my mind immediatly because sometimes things are overused for a REASON and it fits them in a weird way) Like…. Okay. Your loss. But even beyond shipping I am still a bit flabbergasted at some people being like „Yeah but there’s nothing THERE.“ like, COME ON THERE COULD BE SO MUCH.

Okay, anon, sometimes you need to understand that people have no taste and sometimes we are more intelligent than others and we have to carry the burden of liking and understanding an amazing ship that a lot of people find boring in canon because they don't know how to read the characters. (I'm half joking here, by the way)

Like!!! I started shipping them from the first second they mentioned they were together when they were young. The first flashback of them has the biggest most beautiful "young, teenage best friends to lovers angsty with a lot of pining and not actually unrequited love" I've ever seen. And not only that, even their fucking past is a slow burn. They make you wait to know about the resentment and what happened between them (I've only watched that flashback in wano, if more things are shown in the arc or the manga I don't know about them so don't spoil me in the comments pleaseplease) and it's so so so beautiful. Like- They make me want to lay on the floor all day and cry WHAT'S NOT INTERESTING ABOUT THEIR DYNAMIC????

You know what happens, anon? A lot of people don't like the childhood best friends to lovers trope because they find it boring (for some reason I still don't understand because it's literally my favorite trope) and so they decide to focus on the rivalry and angst that comes later but, y'know, that's when the fanon thing comes up and they focus more on that than on their actual canon past where they're best friends.

And tbh the fact that they reduce their characters only to their relationship instead of to their actual personalities and goals is a shame because Buggy and Shanks have to be two of the most charismatic and interesting anime characters I've ever seen. They're fun and extremely cool to watch even when they aren't thinking about each other 24/7. People, please stop only thinking about ships for a moment?? And if you do, please at least think about how cool it's going to be once they get together again after so much time being apart.

This reminds me a lot of Soukoku and Satosugu ngl. The whole BFFs until there was this big betrayal thing and also the fact that people only like them because of their relationship and are always mad their characters aren't only about the ship.

Honestly, I'm so excited to see more of them and every time they talk/show up on screen I immediately start sobbing. How could people not find them interesting in canon? Buggy is literally one of the best characters wdym?? Also he'd be extremely angry at people reducing him to his relationship with Shanks, dude already is tired of that man let him rest!! Imagine people always talking about you to talk about the ex you still love like damn please he's an awesome character too. And Shanks, too, but like the dude is a simp and he would love this whole thing so-

How do you think May and Drew would’ve gotten together?

OOH OKAY so, first off, same answer I have for another ask somewhere in my queue- which is, I'm not someone who usually latches onto one version or fanon. I like to mix and match and mingle between interpretations rather than setting up my own concrete one, honestly. I have no taylor-canon-contestshipping agenda, I just go with whatever's the most entertaining to me and my friends at any given point in time.

That said, I feel like the Johto Arc THAT WE DIDN'T GET TO SEE could have kickstarted it. Like, in the Johto arc, they may or may not have traveled together as a group (unconfirmed) but at least they'd have ran into each other multiple times (confirmed, May says that her rivals are kicking her ass in Johto during the Wallace cup cameo). And by that point, they're on friendly terms (see: Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing as their last real canon marker of where they are friendship wise). Headcanony territory below, rambling as I do. Long post, which is to be expected when someone enables my contestshipping LMAO.

In Johto (rip the abandoned Johto fic I had like 1.5 years ago and all the other fics that don't make it out of google docs), I like to think it was May, Drew, Harley, and Solidad travelling together for at least certain stretches of the journey. I can see SO MANY SHENANIGANS that could lead to bonding and furthering that friendship into more of a foundation for something more. Strolling the Goldenrod National Park and talking after one of them had a bad loss (canonically, probably May), meanwhile Harley is off trying to be a guest on Goldenrod Radio or something with Solidad in tow. Or, May making an ill-informed decision to poke around Burned Tower and having her leg fall through one of the rotting floorboards, only to find a hand IMMEDIATELY reaching out to catch her. ALSO, BUG CATCHING CONTEST! Wait, lmao, imagine Drew in the Pokeathlon.. it's giving 'May wanted to do it and needed teammates but Drew is basically taking the approach of walking the mile in PE but he's doing the best he can and hating every second of it' tbh. You cannot convince me he's a sports guy. ANYWAYS little things like that are what I tend to gravitate towards- little misadventures that come together to solidify that trust and friendship, via situations and circumstances that were entirely avoidable but not at all regretted. A very 'Who What When Where Wynaut' approach, honestly- toss them into a situation and watch something bloom out of it.

So, Johto happens, shenanigans ensue, the rivalry turns far closer to pure friendship. I'd say the rivalry really leans into that shift from 'I want to be better than this person, I can't lose to them' towards 'I want to do better because of this person, not to spite them'. It becomes a partnership.

But technically I haven't even answered your question yet. I think this carries on for a few years, rivalry and friendship and whatever else sort of intermingling into its own form of relationship. They aren't rivals or friends or lovers, just... May and Drew. Like a combination move- it's no single thing, it's a conglomeration of emotions that come together into its own thing. I think they're two people who fall into something very naturally and without 'making it official' per se, just a gradual tumble into friendship-and-then-some over time until one day they sort of realize they've been functionally a couple for months on end and didn't notice. I like to think it's the kind of thing where they say they're dating and people would be like...a "wait, we thought you guys just had your two-year anniversary" type deal LMAO. I think this tends to be a pretty popular opinion/interpretation, too. Because here's the thing.

Drew would make a move. We see him do it every other episode he's in. May does not pick up on it or really explore her own emotions like he seems to. I think even if she did find herself on that same page, it would go like:

Drew: Well, I've been doing the rose shtick for years and nothing's happened, so I should respect that boundary and make sure to not push it anymore.

May (assuming she figures herself out here): I value this friendship and don't want to risk it, and I'm probably misreading him.

Like, I can SO EASILY see them falling to a standstill on actually making it REAL, so I think it's something they just fall into quietly until some external force makes that push for them. (forced proximity trope, in vino veritas trope in a timeskip, something like that).

second of all..... boy oh boy how to describe Them. the guys who live in my brain. first of all, best friends to lovers. in almost every fic i write that is The constant - they are always friends first. they're opposites attract, but they have much more in common than they think. they're the epitome of 'what if we were two guys and we kissed in the smoffice.... haha jk..... unless?' they love each other more than life itself, even if they both have a really hard time showing it. they are a snapshot of domesticity, of the simple act of doing something for someone because you love them, whether it's platonically or romantically.

i described them a little while ago here and i think it's the most succinct version of this description:

• My NOTP for them: I thought it was Valerie maybe Caroline but I think it's Katherine. Valerie left him but Caroline cared for him and (I'm 99.9% she didn't treat him like trash so shes good in my book but I still don't ship them.) Now I'm just gonna say this Katherine and Stefan do look chemistry together. I do believe Katherine cares for very few people and he may be one of those people. But that doesn't really excuse...she messed him up. Like bad. Like really really bad. Now I do like Katherine's personality she's pretty cool but that wasn't her best moment. I'm not Kat hater but she shouldn't have compelled and manipulated Stefan in the way she did.

• My BROTP for them: Lexi! I mean have you seen these two they're the best together (platonically of course) they bring the best out of each other. And Lexi truly cares for Stefan she's been they're for him during his blood cravings to the times he shut of his humanity. It's really hard not to love they're friendship especially since it's healthier compared to some of the other relationships in tvd.

• My OTP for them: Stelena (duh). I just find them to be adorable. And healthier than delena. *cough *cough Stefan never forced Elena to do anything and let her make her own choices. And Elena accepted Stefan for who he was and loved him even more for it especially because he was honest! And he also didn't go and kill innocent people because he was mad Elena broke up with him. Sorry for the rant! Delena lovers don't come for me!

• My second choice pairing for them: it's between Caroline and Rebekah with Stefan. As far as I know they both treated him right. Correct me if I'm wrong. As long as they cared for him that's all that matters in my book.

• My fluffy pairing for them: Still stelena because they're so adorable it makes me want to write fluffy fanfiction of them. Which I have. 15 to be exact. I find they're relationship to be very sweet and I love that they have an mutual understanding and respect of one another. I also love how they both bring the best out of each other. And they (usually) make each other very happy and that's a A+ in my book!

• My angsty pairing for them: Stefan and Katherine. I mean report to whole first paragraph it'll tell you exactly why.

Sorry sometimes I love Damon other times I don't.

• My BROTP for them: Elena and Bonnie. Bonnie truly cares for all of her friends and it's hard not to love they're friendship especially when they stuck together through thick and thin. Bonnie is the most loyal and caring friend we need more people like her.

I do like he changed and became better but it feels weird to me it's like delena in the way We're Elena got with Damon after all the horrible things he did. (How he treated Caroline, his brother, how he treated Andy, killed Lexi, killed their nephew, killed Countless innocents, manipulate people to get what he wanted.) In conclusion I don't like Klaus but I do like Caroline. She also mentioned why would I help you after you've hurt me friends multiple times? Great point Caroline! Kudos to Care! I also love Caroline because I relate to her the most out of everyone. I love how she's never afraid to point out when somethings wrong, cares for others deeply, and is never afraid to be honest. (OK everyone is afraid sometimes but you get my point!)

the next three are actually a series of pwp fics set in the same universe where we have established kandreil but i’m giving them all one-on-one time (therefore, three fics)!! i’m very excited about it! this series features: trans neil, professional athlete shenanigans, kevin being a freak, neil being a horny little shit, andrew being his little weirdo self who plays exy because there's nothing better to do but actually is the epitome of a malewife. lots of porn with a side of domesticity, just the way i like it stand in awe of him - the kevneil fic, which yes is titled after a psalm do not dare @ me lol this one is a very soft rapid escalation of morning glory snuggles and domestic chats in which kevin and neil are in bed and start talking about andrew and at first it's like "oh he's so cute when he's grumpy" and suddenly it's like "and that thing he does with his tongue" and they just get each other off thinking about how much they love their bf!!!! like good for them tbh

clinging to you - kandrew!!!! size difference!!!!! 🥵🥵 like there is one vertical foot between those two bastards and you think i'm not gonna make it a thing? i'm gonna make it a thing. i actually have a good chunk of this one written already, it has taken over my brain. just kevin being "ah andrew is so Large and Beefy and Good at Exy" (*cough cough* exy kink *cough cough* competence kink) but then suddenly they're in bed and he realises he can cover ALL of andrew with HIS body and he's like "oh it turns out he's smol but that's also hot?" immediate fireworks in the ol' brain box!!!!

waiting, wanting - ah. the andreil with that one premise that has been done a gazillion times across every random on earth but idc because i want it. neil is horny, andrew is asleep, kevin is across the world and in the end andrew and neil end up fucking with kevin on the phone listening in. neil gets fingered within an inch of his life and andrew gets mocked for his bad french accent and it’s all very delightful, if i say so myself

3 biggest improvements

oh yay tooting my own horn, my favourite activity lmao cutting back - i started this year with a very clear goal of doing No Fests. i did nearly fail at this and i DID sign up to a fest although for no fault of my own that didn't work out in the end which means No Fest 2022 was a success. i also spent a lot less time forcing myself to write and a lot more time thinking about my motivations, the stories i really want to tell and what kind of presence i want to have. i wish i had cut back more but it's very hard. a while ago i described to a dear friend how falling out of love with a fandom community is a bit like moving house, and this move hasn't been smooth. i am proud of my efforts here though!

finding a balance to my outlining process - outlining has always been my weakness. my two longer works are a bit of a mess continuity-wise because my brain just hates outlining. the moment i write down what happens it ticks the wee box for that task and assumes i am done. this year i have found a happy balance where i don't outline too much so that my brain still thrives on the mystery but enough so that the final product isn't a total mess.

characterisation vs plotting - this ties in a little bit with the outlining thing above but i feel like a lot of what i wrote this year was character motivated rather than plot driven! it's a bit of a new approach for me but i am very pleased with the results. it took a lot of studying (mostly reading original stuff, but also a ton of @skeptiquewrites fic because in my opinion, no one does a full cast of characters that feel real and fleshed out and wonderful every single time like tee does!) and a lot more time considering who these characters are instead of actively writing to advance a story, which really worked out for me

2 resolutions

get back to original work - i have a novel idea that's been in my head for a very long time and my goal was to work on it at some point this year. i even gave it a good go during NaNo — unfortunately, it is largely horror and also very much based in my childhood home, in which i am currently living... you can see how that probably wasn't a good idea in the first place. (wtf was i thinking) so, depending on whether or not i manage to finish building and move into my tiny home at some point in 2023, a good chunk of a first draft should be achieved sometime next year!

give myself some grace - well. yeah. that. this is basically an extended version of the "cutting back" improvement from this year. i have to remind myself a lot that unexpected heartbreak and real life shit and bad mental health are all a thing. i'm not always going to be able to finish my projects, and sometimes i will be able to finish them but it won't be what i want it to be. so i'm putting joy above every other feeling next year by cutting myself some slack

all my favourite lines this year are from the same fic but i am obsessed with how kevin and neil are basically canonically soulmates so i’m gonna go with:

I have some random questions about Bats and Blue:

Is she on birth control? Is that why they are both okay not using any other protective/contraceptive method?

Is this his first real intimate/sexual relationship? He seems pretty experienced physically speaking. And it seems like there has been a seed of interest for each other, since they have know each other for so long, but has he been with anyone else?

Why now? I get she is down to fuck The Batman but why does Bruce suddenly feel okay opening up to her? Was their first experience the catalyst for him to allow himself to want her openly when he is Bruce?

What did they think about each other before they fucked. She mentioned she thought about The Batman and was attracted to him. What were their initial thoughts when they met for the first time (with him in disguise)?

Who do you think she likes more? Or is it like she likes them both, but for different reasons? I feel like he thinks he is more himself as The Batman and so they are more open when she is with that version of him (I cannot wait to see her reaction when she finds out....)

How do you think Blue sees herself, in regards to her gender and her physical appearance? Is she like more feminine or more adrogynous or does she not really think about that at all?

And then how does that tie into how Bruce/Batman sees and is attracted to her? Is it more that he knows her so that's ehat drawn him in? Is it more like..unspeakable and they just have that chemistry? Is it not at all about her appearance and demeanor and just her presence?

I dont know, I dont think Bruce 2022 has had any long lasting relationships but I don’t think he’s a virgin yknow. im guessing he probably messed around a little bit in his later teens or early 20s. and like, he’s intuitive and blue tells him what she likes. you don’t necessarily need to be experienced to be a good lover imo

like I said in the third chapter, bruce and blue know each other! like they’re childhood friends and bruce has technically and already feels comfortable and has opened up to her before. the only thing is that she left for university and they sort of drifted until the third chapter takes place, where they reunite because of alfred’s scheme lmfao. bruce and blue have always had feelings for each other but they are both wickedly shy people so nothing was ever said. and bruce is still trying to manage how to be batman and such so his decision making is like questionable at best when it comes to real life, yknow? he’s a recluse and does not know how to deal with people well, esp with romantic interests.

well I mean, batman is sexy lmfaOOO and blue thinks so too. tbh he did scare her initially but she trusts Gordon and she then (obviously) made her own opinion about batman through working with him. like blue is a very kind and caring person and it’s easy to tell that batman is um Unwell, so she developed a sense of worry and sympathy for him. bats, since he is bruce, was fuckin spooked when Gordon introduced him to blue. Bats didn’t know blue was back in town or working for GCPD and so he wanted to keep his distance out of fear of discovery or keeping her out of trouble essentially. however, he is stupid and feelings make people even dumber so he wasn't very successful in pushing her away. and then in the first chapter, even though it was a life or death situation, he was literally willing to die instead of forcing or like asking blue to help him

yeah I agree. blue likes bruce and bats for different reasons but she does have that familiarity with them since they're the same person. like one is a forbidden love and the other is a childhood love. and yeah bruce is definitely braver with the mask and does feel more himself, which I hope I accurately portrayed. bruce is shy and like, idk it’s scary to open yourself up if you dont have a mask to create a sort of barrier.

and well, it is a reader insert technically, so the appearance is up to the reader. but I do have my own input as to what she would look like. she goes by she/her pronouns and identifies as female, but again I dont really use a lot of pronouns in the fic so it can be up for interpretation. as for looks I was thinking of a blend of the two ladies in the photos below! Blue’s family is Arab and hence the appearance

again bruce and blue have known each other for AGES. like it’s more of their chemistry and personality plus just overall familiarity/comfort he has with her and vice versa. obviously he’s physically attracted to her looks but it’s more of what’s below the surface. plus, just in general, bruce is not a superficial man and isn’t shallow when looking for partners. in fact I'd say he’s more of a personality over physical feature guy. and so is blue!

Marc doesn't feel like the nickname type? I could see him settling on something simple, like calling Hank my Beast, or something like that. Simple and heartfelt. That feels appropriate.

Mess of an infodump summery thing about my dsaf au (this post is made for my entertainment only)

Henry and Jack kinda just. Remained in limbo for a while in the void after the good ending of dsaf 3.

With only each other to talk to they.. yknow, talked. Formed a bond. Enemies to friends to lovers style.

Real Fredbear is something they talk about rarely, but one day (night, afternoon, whenever. Time is meaningless here.) Henry realizes there had to be something that made the bear omnipresent. A view of parallel words, perhaps?

And boy, oh boy, does Henry spiral.

Jack tries his best to get Henry to stop this more than likely pointless research and ze feelings tm happen and he explains how he's worried for him and he doesn't want him getting so obsessed w this like he did w the joy of creation he had going on and Henry is Henry and is about to make some sort of comment to distract from his actual feelings of 'I need to bury myself in my work or else I'll have to face the fact I made my lovers life so horrible' but before he can speak

They go through the portal and end up in a not really different world tbh. Henry assumes they're in the past when really they're in some fucked up timeline where important ass shit (Dave getting springlocked, Peter reconnecting w Caroline, Jack making his promise w Real Fredbear, and more) just did not happen.

They get to work trying to help Peter. That is like **the** first thing Jack insists they do the second he and Henry show up at Caroline's only for Peter to not be there.

Henry is honestly super embarrassed w this he hates having to confront mfers he killed his ass hates his actions having consequences😭

Of course Dee is there too. She can spot her own brother even with 200 pounds of orange make up on and and- she's so happy to see her brother again and he's "alive" again and😭😭😭

Henry has to attempt to summarize everything, ignores the fact he killed this poor gal, and instead explains how he and Jack even ended up here.

Then I kinda haven't gotten to fleshing out the rest but Peter is liberated from freddys so is Dee and Henry and Jack have an epic wacky wedding and everyone cool and important is invited and then they buy a house and move in together hell yeah.

Dee reluctantly takes up the room Jack would've been staying in at Peter and Caroline's house. She feels bad that even after all these years, she still needs to rely on her siblings, and Peter reassures her it's okay and stuff thumbs up emoji.

Dave moves in with Henry and Jack, he kinda just doesn't have to work ever since he's still raking in Afton Robotics money. Henry and Jack meanwhile work at a hospital as a doctor and nurse, and uh yeah. Yep. That's about it.

Anyone who isn't mentioned here either isn't important to the au, or I just haven't thought of what to do w em.

Author's Note: Hi friends! Here we are, Chapter 15!!! This is the longest series I've ever made! I'm pretty proud of myself for sticking with it. I'm not the best writer, but I do enjoy writing. Hopefully you guys enjoy it too! :) Tbh, I only started writing because I wanted to make fanfics for specific scenarios I had in mind. It's half self-indulging, half me being creative and obsessed with fictional characters to the point where I create scenarios that I feel the need to publish for the entire world to see. Luckily, nobody irl has discovered me yet and I hope to keep it that way. Anyway, I'll let you read now lmao.😚

“I suppose that's a good idea. If we're lucky we might not even remember it.”

“Right. Should we go to your room? Everyone's asleep, but it just feels weird to be out in the open like this.” Keith admits, looking down at his slippers. They're just like everyone else's; plush robotic lion heads in the paladin's respective color.

“I was actually thinking yours, since I'm not sure if Allura is going to check on me again. Plus, you have a mission tomorrow so nobody is going to bother you if they think you're asleep.” I suggested, beginning to walk in that direction. Keith caught up almost immediately, taking steps in time with mine as he stood on my left.

Of course I was nervous; how could I not be? I was about to act out a pheromone-induced fantasy with the one person I have a tumultuous relationship with. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach begin to flutter, the nunvil not doing nearly enough to keep my nerves down. Soon enough, we were stood in front of the door to Keith's room. He placed his hand on the scanner, and we waited for the doors to slide open with a whoosh.

“Should we look over what that page in your book said one more time? You know, just to make sure we don't miss anything. It would help ensure we get it right the first time.” The red paladin spoke up after a period of silence. I reached into my pocket, retrieving the tiny novel I'd just recently become reunited with. I held it out, showing Keith I had it with me.

“Looks like we're on the same page... eh?” I joked, giving a small chuckle. I mentally whacked myself with a bat for making a stupid joke, but I couldn't help myself. At least I wasn't sober; then it really would've been embarrassing.

“I am this close to making your dream of getting thrown out of the airlock come true.” Keith deadpanned, a the ends of his lips slowly curving upwards after a couple seconds.

This was maybe the second time I'd seen this guy smile, and let me tell you; it doesn't get old. I liked being able to make him smile, especially since he wasn't known to do so. It made me feel special, and I obviously made him happy enough to not care what his face was doing. I wondered if Keith was aware of the pleasant look painted on his lips.

"Speaking of dreams..." I flipped to the bookmarked spot with the dream interpretation I'd talked to him about the other day, skimming the sentences in front of me. I watched as he looked over the words on the page, silently mouthing the words as he read.

“Okay, so we've already addressed the issues we had with each other. What do we do now? There's nothing about how to fix the issues.” Keith scratched his head, a hiccup escaping him. The little sound he made was so adorable that I started giggling, my drunkenness making everything funnier than it really was.

“S-sorry Keith,” I paused to laugh, trying to regain my composure and taking a deep breath. “That was just too cute. Who would've thought a tough guy like you would make such an adorable noise?” I managed to rein in my laughter, looking to Keith with an apologetic smile.

“S’okay,” His words slurred a little bit, the effects of the nunvil were still active. “It was pretty funny.” He cracked yet another smile, with teeth this time. They were only visible for a split second before his lips reconnected, his grin dwindling into a peaceful expression. I reciprocated, giving a soft smile of my own. We basked in the glow of his bedside lamp for a short while before I came to my senses.

"Oh, right, back to this. I'm not entirely sure what to do. Should we just go for it?" I asked, looking to Keith for approval.

"I guess so," he shrugged. "First, I think we both need a good luck charm." He opened the drawer of his nightstand, grabbing what appeared to be a small bottle of nunvil.

"Where'd you get that?"

"Apparently, they don't check IDs at the Space Mall." He smirked, briefly disappearing into his bathroom before emerging with two little cups. He poured half of the nunvil in one cup, handing it to me, the rest going into the other cup.

He held out his cup to say cheers, and I repeated the action. After we knocked our shots back, I felt the burn of it travel down my throat and into my chest. I already felt much more at ease, the strong alcoholic-adjacent concoction working its magic within an instant.

Once we were finished, he took the cup from me, putting it down on the nightstand along with his. Quickly grabbing my hand, he led me to his door.

‘Right, the dream starts out with me coming to his room to talk.’ I thought to myself. Keith closed the door and I took some deep breaths, mentally preparing myself. I knocked gently, but still loud enough for Keith to hear. The whirring noise filled my ears as the panels slid to reveal the room I'd been in just seconds ago.

“Keith, we need to talk.” I thought back to my dream, grateful that I'd written it down just in case. It was so vivid to the point where I woke up thinking it was real. That made it a lot easier to remember what happened and what was said.

“Yeah, I know. Is that why you're here?” I watch his toned arm fall from its perch on the doorframe, the muscles contracting. He turns, his back facing me as he leads us further into his room.

“It is. Am I allowed to sit or is that reserved for people you respect?” I asked, using the same sickeningly sweet yet sinister tone, just as I'd done in the dream. Keith scoffed—he seemed to have remembered the details just as clearly as I did.

“I'd rather ask you to leave, but I'm not some sort of monster, McClain. Just sit somewhere and let's get this over with, alright?” He huffs, following me as I mimic the scene playing in my head. He sets himself down beside me shortly after I've sat down on the end of his bed, my hands in my lap as I look around the room in the awkward silence.

“Obviously, we need to talk about the problem you have with me.” I state, looking over at Keith. He's fidgeting, picking at the skin around his nails.

“I'm the one with a problem? How about you, with your high and mighty attitude and constant need to start a fight? I'm pretty sure that's the problem here—you're the problem here.”

“Oh, is that how you see it? Well, I'd be happy to give you another problem, Red.” I say, shooting a fiery glare in his direction.

“You always do.” Keith looks over at me as I rise abruptly to my feet, swiftly heading towards the door.

“Whatever, I'm not doing this. Just keep being a fucking jerk, I don't care anymore. I can't do this.” I shout angrily at him, thankful the castle's rooms are semi-soundproof.

Before I reach the motion sensor, I'm tugged backwards by a strong grip on my wrist. The movement turns me 180 degrees, crash landing into my enemy's grasp, feeling his hands as they clutched my shoulders. I couldn't help but wonder what was going through Keith's mind as we played out this scene.

I feel just as I did in the dream; a perfect mixture of practically every emotion. I felt nervous, vulnerable, even a bit angry as I became further immersed in the dream scenario. I awkwardly backed away, trying to create some distance between the red paladin and I, only to find myself locked in place by the strong arm that found its way around my back.

“Wouldn't I just be more of a jerk if I let you storm out of here? You're angrier now than you were when you knocked on my door.” Keith was doing really well, as if he was used to acting out moments like this. To be fair, we've had plenty of practice with all of our real-life arguments like this one.

“Why do you care? It's not like you can do anything to fix it anyway.”

I looked up into his indigo eyes, noticing the way the lighter shades transitioned like splashes of water into the cool, darker shade that took up a majority of his irises. I had never looked at Keith this way before. How did my mind know exactly how I felt? This wasn't part of the dream, not even remotely! I was frozen, too overwhelmed to voice my concern.

Keith's eyes flickered down to my hands, which had subconsciously moved to the front of his shirt, clutching at the soft fabric. I noticed how his pupils dilated—he knew something was off too, but we knew neither of us were in the right state of mind to do anything about it.

“Maybe we're not supposed to fix anything,” His voice is soft, but it crashes into me like a wave from the ocean that lies within his eyes. A gentle wave, one that holds me tender yet allows me to float freely. “I think... I think we're supposed to move along and follow wherever the universe decides to take us.” We're drunk, that's all it is. We're just drunk, acting out a dream we both had, taking a few creative liberties as we go along.

“Keith...” I start, but I'm left with nothing to say. All that swirls in my mind is a single thought, repeating itself over and over, alternating between shouts and whispers. I couldn't make out the words, but it gave me reassurance; that everything would be just fine.

“Please let me kiss you.” He whispers gently, leaning closer. I do nothing to stop him; I find myself moving closer, meeting him in the middle. The space between us is small, but still felt too far.

“Please...”

That's all it took for Keith to hold my face in his hands, bringing us as close as we could be to one another. Our lips were touching, moving, and it just felt right. I could feel my heart pounding, my fingers twisting the neckline of his shirt that I'd been clinging onto; anything to keep him here with me. This was something I'd never experienced before, and I already craved it. We held each other tighter, almost afraid of what would happen if we broke apart too soon. Something about this moment felt so utterly right; the strength of our passion outlasted the fragile passing of time.

Memories of every interaction we'd had flashed through my mind at lightning speed. It only slowed during the good parts, even parts I didn't associate meaning to. I could feel the wind, the sun, the ocean, the grass under my feet. Images of my home, under a blue sky with raindrops dripping off the overhang. A wooden door with two openings. The yellow swing my father used to push me on as a child. It went by in a split second, and yet I saw it all. Every detail made sense.

I could feel the warmth leaving my body as we disconnected, needing a moment to steady our breathing. There were a million questions and worries scattered about my brain, but the afterglow of our kiss kept them quiet for the time being. It was safe here. I was safe with Keith. All I felt was warmth—pleasant and rejuvenating like sunshine, fervent and insatiable like a fire. I knew both would burn brightly until my final breath.

I thought I would panic in a situation like this. Why wasn't I panicking?

‘Because it's him,’ I thought to myself. ‘It's just you and him. Here. Together. Holding each other tight, your lips are brushing against his.’ And it felt right. I couldn't even finish all the questions I had in my head. It was as though Keith's lips held the remedy to my worries.

The sound of his breathing was surely an antidote for the lustful. Pulling away from his embrace was necessary to breathe, but the pure, spellbinding air between us made it hard to let go.

I fastened the belt of my suit around my waist, checking in the mirror one last time before leaving my room. Shiro asked me to report to the command center, before he and Keith departed for the Blade of Marmora headquarters. I took a deep breath before entering through the automatic doors, my eyes adjusting to the lighting in the room.

“Y/N, there you are. How are you feeling today?” Shiro asked, his tone a bit more chipper than usual. I scratched behind my left ear with my index finger awkwardly.

“Truthfully, I've been better. Was there something you needed me for?”

“Actually, yes. I know you drank last night, but the Blade of Marmora just contacted us and requested we bring you to the base.” The black paladin addressed me sincerely, putting a hand on my shoulder.

“Hold on a tick—me?” Shiro nodded. “How do they know about me?” I was confused. I'd never heard of the Blade of Marmora until the other day. How could they know who I am, and what did they want from me?

“I'm not sure, but they asked for you by name. I would never make you do anything you're uncomfortable with, so you can totally say no, but in order to get the information we need from the Galra, you'd have to come with Keith and I.”

I took a moment to weigh my options. I could either deny the Galra's request and screw up Voltron's chances of getting vital intel on Zarkon, or I can go on a highly awkward road trip with Keith and Shiro and potentially put myself in danger by meeting Galra spies...

“And they didn't provide any explanation as to why I was summoned?”

Shiro shook his head. How was I supposed to come to a rational conclusion when both choices seemed like a dead end?

“Fuck it, I'll go. Voltron's objective is much bigger than any individual. Besides, what could the Galra need from someone like me?”

“Thank you. I know this is a tough situation to be in, but you won't be alone.”

I felt better after hearing Shiro's words. I knew I'd be safe with the paladins.

“Thanks, Shiro. And don't worry, I'll be careful.” I reassured the resident older brother figure.

“My offer still stands, number one!” Coran piped up, sure to make his point with a raised index finger. Shiro and I turned to look at the eccentric Altean. “I have all different types of costumes and wigs if need be!” I looked back over at Shiro, whose eyes were wide with alarm.

“That's very noble of you, Coran, but I think I'll be just fine. I do appreciate your willingness to help though, so thank you.” I offered my praise to the older alien man, who nodded, his brows furrowed with concern.

— Time skip bc I literally can't think and I have to move past the plot or else I'll go insane. Maybe I’ll just delete the entire story bc I have no idea what I'm doing. Would anyone care? Like if I just left this fic unfinished permanently like it'll be completed but it doesn't have an end, would y'all be mad? Like, can I pull a One Direction? P.S. this time skip was written a few months before the note about me taking a hiatus. I literally said in that note that i would never do to you what One Direction did to me. I plan to keep my word on that, but this whole thing was just too ironic and funny to delete. —

Third Person POV

The journey back to the castle was painfully awkward. Keith's entire silhouette was stiff as he focused on piloting the red lion out of the space pocket. Shiro sat on one side of the ship, while Y/N sat on the other side. The two kept their heads down, deep in thought. Explaining everything to the rest of the team was going to be uncomfortable to say the least.

“I beg your pardon? Did you just say you're half Galra?”

“Yes.”

Allura stands from her seat abruptly, storming out of the room. A moment later, she returns, letting out a heavy sigh and keeping her head down.

“I'm not pleased to hear about this. The last time someone Galra became a paladin, it resulted in the destruction of my planet; nearly my entire race.”

“Princess, he can't help the fact that he–”

“You have no idea what I've been through! Expecting me to be okay with this information is ridiculous.”

The rest of the team was shocked. Nobody had anticipated the possibility that one of the paladins could have Galra heritage. Coran hadn't spoken a word since the revelation, but he looked beyond somber.

Shiro elbows Y/N; an unexpected move that causes her to stumble forward a couple steps. He then coughs in his fist awkwardly, as if nothing happened.

“So, would now be a bad time to mention that I’m also part Galra?”

The question was rhetorical, but that didn’t stop the resounding answer of ‘yes’ to flood the room.

“Wait, if you’re part Galra, doesn’t that mean…” Lance can’t even finish his own sentence before choking up at the thought. Not that he even fully understands what that would mean for him, but if Allura didn’t like it, neither did he.

“Oh yeah, about that… we’re not twins. I suppose we technically are, but not in that way. I’m part Galra, you’re not.” Y/N responded sheepishly, keeping her gaze pointed down at the floor. It would hurt too much to see the disappointment on her friends’ faces.

Keith’s POV

“Basically, Keith had to do this trial to prove that the knife was his. After he almost died, he decided that the Blade of Marmora could just take the knife because he didn’t need it to know who he really was. It was actually pretty cinematic, but I digress. Then, the knife begins floating, like, levitating in mid-air, and it transforms into the giant machete thing it is now. Cool, right?”

Pidge and Hunk look at each other, then back at Y/N, who held a cheerful expression. The group decided that they wanted to hear the gist of what happened from her instead of me. I’m not entirely sure why, but Shiro assured me that it would all be okay.

“That still doesn’t explain how we’re related but not.” Lance pouted, folding his arms while he leaned back in his chair.

Unfortunately for him, he underestimated his stretch, causing the chair to wobble and almost fall over. Unfortunately for my amusement, he managed to catch himself before disaster could strike.

“I’m getting there! It’s like Shiro always says, ‘patience yields focus’.”

Y/N’s brother grumbles a ‘fine’ and allows her to continue her rundown.

“Then, when as we were getting ready to leave, the Blade agents said they had something for me. I was confused, obviously. So, they gave me this cute little dagger,” she pulls out the object, smiling to herself as she admired the craftsmanship on the weapon. “And explained that my mother was Galra. Apparently my mother went to Earth, got with your– well actually our dad, and returned to space and had me. Since space time and Earth time are different, I was actually born at the same time as you,” Y/N paused, gauging the reactions of everyone in the room. Picking up on the confusion, she continued.

“I know it sounds crazy and totally not plausible, but that essentially makes us ‘half twins’ because we share a parent and were born at the same time if you were to convert Earth time to space time or space time to Earth time.” She has a nervous smile on her face, her eyebrows are curved the opposite way. It’s clear she’s anxious to hear what Lance will say. I find myself worrying for her as well.

“Listen, I really want to be like ‘O.M.G. We’re half twins!’ and make a cool handshake with you, but this is just a lot for me to take in all at once.”

Lance swiftly turns to leave, Pidge and Hunk quickly following after him to avoid the awkwardness that lingered in the room. As soon as they’re all out of hearing distance, Y/N sinks into the sofa. She puts her hands over her face and her shoulders jerk as she begins to cry.

My first instinct, as someone who grew up alone, is to run away. I’ve learned to combat that instinct, but my second instinct isn’t much better. I look to Shiro, expecting him to know what to do. It wasn’t until after five seconds of expressionless, wide eye contact that I remembered he grew up alone as well, and therefore had a similar response. Usually, we’d rock, paper, scissors it out to see who would deal with the issue at hand, but this really wasn’t the time for that.

So, as I thought about what the best plan of action was, Shiro decided to take matters into his own hands… by running out of the room. To be fair, he’s technically only six. Even so, that left me with the task of consoling Y/N.

I thought back to when we were at the pool. She’d comforted me that day. Surely I could do the same for her, couldn’t I? It was worth a shot.

“It’ll be okay, Y/N,” I spoke softly, not wanting to startle her with the sudden noise.

The memory of her putting her arm around me was brought to the front of my mind. Maybe it would help her feel less alone if I did the same. I extended my arm behind her, but stopped midway.

“I’m gonna put my arm around you, if that’s okay.”

“Alright. I just,” Y/N sniffles, still keeping her head down. Her face is shielded by her knees.

A moment passed before she spoke.

“He probably hates me now. Lance, I mean. Allura and Coran probably do too. I’m sorry, this is selfish of me. These are people you’ve known longer and literally save the universe with. I should be asking you how you’re holding up.”

“Stop, you’re allowed to be upset. Just know you’re not alone. This is yet another shared experience between the two of us. And, just like before, we’re going to get through it and help each other along the way.” I squeezed Y/N’s shoulder, hoping it reassures her even slightly.

“Thanks,” she exhales. “I really appreciate you doing this. I know this type of thing isn’t your strong suit.”

“Are you kidding? I’m the best at cheering people up!” I offer sarcastically. I hear her chuckle softly, finally lifting her head.

“Oh for sure,” she quips. “But seriously, thank you. If you ever want to talk, I’m here. Us Galra have gotta stick together.” Y/N smiles at her pun, the corners of her eyes scrunching.

I find myself returning the expression, but catch myself before it becomes too noticeable. I don’t smile easily, and even though everyone has seen me laugh and flash a grin, I’d prefer it to be on my own terms. We stand up from the sofa, preparing to go our separate ways.

“Thanks, Y/N. And just so you know, Lance will come around. He can’t hold a grudge for as long as he thinks. Just give him some time and he’ll arrive to the right conclusion.”

“Good to know. I’m gonna get some sleep, it’s been a long day. Good night.” She nods, turning and heading towards the bedroom corridor.

“Sleep well.”

Y/N’s POV

Despite how draining the day had been, I found myself lying wide awake. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t keep my eyes closed for very long and my mind was filled with concerns over how to win back the trust of the paladins, Allura, and Coran.

I swung my legs over the side of my bed, slid on my slippers, and put on a sweater. If I wasn’t going to end up sleeping, I might as well tire myself out. It couldn’t hurt to do a little training, could it?

The hallways were empty as I walked to the training deck. All that could be heard was the purr of the ship’s engines and the whir of the crystal’s power that kept the castle up and running. Luckily, the deck was unoccupied, which meant I could practice using my new dagger in private.

“Let’s see how much of a Galra fighter I really am.” I muttered under my breath, pulling the small knife out of its sheath. The purple gem with the Blade of Marmora symbol glowed as I secured my hold on the grip.

You’ve completed Level Two of hand-to-hand combat training. Would you like to try some willpower exercises now?

“Sure!” I responded to the artificial intelligence. I wasn’t sure what ‘willpower exercises’ entailed, but I could certainly use a break from the workout I was currently enduring.

Okay. Starting up willpower exercise number one. Would you like me to explain the exercise?

“Yes, please.”

Okay. This willpower exercise will require you to put on the device that will appear on the table in front of you…

I notice a white, almost crown-like headpiece materialize in the center of the table. I take it and place it on my head.

Great! Now, get in a comfortable, seated position, close your eyes, and await further instruction… Our motion sensors have detected that you are seated. Now, our device will allow your thoughts to be used in your willpower training. Would you like to proceed?

“Yes.”

Okay. Beginning conscious and subconscious scan… Scan complete. Are you ready to start willpower exercise number one?

“Yes.”

Okay. For this exercise, please imagine you are in a room with a member of your family, or a loved one that you trust…

My mind immediately pictures Lance. He’s my brother after all, the only family I know I have.

Great! Now, you will be shown a number scenarios with this person. Your job is to respond as responsibly as you can. Your evaluation will be based on a multitude of factors. Each scenario will test a different factor. After these scenarios, you will be tasked with imagining other people in the same circumstances in order to ensure the accuracy of your emotional responses regardless of the subject.

“Y/N!” Lance smiled, waving frantically. I felt the corners of my mouth tugging in opposite directions as I pictured myself running towards my brother.

We smothered one another in a warm embrace. I felt safe, happy. After a moment we pulled apart, beginning to talk about our adventures in space.

“I have to tell you something.”

“You know you can tell me anything, Lance.”

He takes a deep breath, his eyebrows furrowed in contemplative thought.

“I’m not sure how else to say this, so I’ll just come right out and say it. Y/N, I’ve been assigned to kill you.”

“What? Lance, what are you talking about?” I can barely speak. I feel frozen. I’m tempted to take the headpiece off, but keep forgetting because of how immersive the technology is.

“Allura said that because you’re Galra, you cannot be trusted. I’ve known her longer, and after the experiences I’ve had with the Galra, I have to agree. This isn’t easy, but I have to do this. I’m sorry, Y/N.”

“Lance, you don’t have to do this! I’ll just leave! This isn’t fair to you. Allura shouldn’t have burdened you with such a task.” I tell him, placing a hand on his shoulder. I feel tears stream down my face.

“No, no. That’s the thing,” he steps back, causing my hand to fall down at my side. “I accepted the mission. I brought you here. I want to be the one to do this.”

“You sound nothing like yourself! What happened? The Lance I know would never kill someone, let alone VOLUNTEER to do it!” I try to reason with him, but his face remains expressionless.

“You’re wrong. The Lance you knew was the one that trusted you. Now that I know the truth, I’ve had to change my mind about things; about you.”

“Stop! I know you’re not capable of hurting innocent people! I haven’t done anything! I can’t control the fact that I’m part Galra, in fact I wish I never found out that I was! But those are things I can’t change. Lance, you have to believe me. I would never do anything to hurt you, the paladins, Allura, Coran, or anyone!” I was sobbing hysterically. My own brother was set on ending my life, and I was failing to talk him out of it.

“Just shut up! You talking is only going to make this harder for you. Just forget everything and pretend I’m a stranger. It was quite easy for me, since you practically are one to me now.” I could tell Lance was on the verge of tears himself, his own willpower being tested.

“That’s like asking me to forget who I am, Lance. All I’ve ever known is being your long lost sister. That’s how everyone else knows me, how you know me. I know that there’s a part of you that knows the truth. Somewhere deep down, you still believe in me.” My voice was hoarse as I struggled to hold myself together.

“I wish it didn’t have to be this way. Goodbye, Y/N.”

Third Person POV

“Y/N! Y/N, are you there? It’s me! I’m right here, it’s okay! Y/N, it’s not real!”

The distraught young woman took in her surroundings. It took some effort for the paladin to get the headpiece off, since the person wearing it usually has to be the one to do so. Luckily, her guard was down enough that it was easy for him to remove it.

“Oh my god!” She cries, burying her head in the paladin’s chest.

“Shh, it’s okay,” he tried to calm her. “I’ve got you. It’s okay, I promise you’re safe.” He holds Y/N tighter, hoping to ease the pain the simulation caused her.

“It– it was Lance, and he–”

“Shh, it’s okay. None of it was real. Lance is asleep. Everyone else is asleep. Nobody is going to hurt you, I won’t let them.” The words seemed to ease Y/N’s mind a little, her cries becoming quieter, softer.

“Please don’t leave. I don’t– I don’t want to be alone.”

“I won’t. I’m staying right here. You won’t be alone.”

Eventually he learned all of the lyrics and discovered the words in those songs are exactly what he feels about u.

That made him giggle a bit.

He thinks you should be a model really. He always tells u that u would be the best one out there with your cute face, long beautiful hair and your height. He dosen't understand why you always say how pretty real models are when you are here looking like an angels gift .

Stares at it while youre at college.

Wants u kiss and cuddle w u 24/7.

ooooooh, well I'm not gonna pair them with actresses they've already been paired with bc that would be too easy (though offmild best ship forever <3), so let's go:

gun with puimek or tu. firstly thought of ciize bc they're both smol but actually idk if I see it. for puimek, since gun doesn't fit cliche patriarchal standards for a male lead (hate that that’s even a thing), I think he'd be great with her bc puimek is almost always put in sportier & boyish roles, so I think they'd be a great couple to challenge patriarchal standards! as for tu, I chose her bc everyone tells me she is an amazing actress & gun is also obviously incredible, so they'd definitely make a great pair! also they're both smol so yeah I'm actually super into this pairing!

- He's also the visual along with Albedo (tho everyone here is gorgeous, ngl)

- Childe constantly switches between rap and vocal, but he's mostly recognized for his amazing dancing (he's the main dancer for a reason)

- Venti is the main vocal and possibly writes most of their songs (sometimes Albedo helps him)

- Funnily enough, Venti is often confused for being the maknae while in reality he's the second oldest in the group

- Xiao is the main rapper

- He refuses to sing but would do it if asked (rarely)

- and he's the real maknae - even tho he hates it he can't do anything about it (and everyone, especially Venti and Childe, loves teasing him for it)

- Diluc and Kaeya are the other rappers along with Xiao and they are related in some way tho both refuse to reveal anything to the public (but everyone is convinced they're brothers)

- they don't get along most of the time and argue constantly, but it only amuses the rest of the members and the fans absolutely love their arguments bc it more often than not turns into a rap battle

- and let me tell you, they completely kill it

- then, we have Albedo. He and Zhongli are the most peaceful ones and most likely keep the team together bc if not those idiots would've caused absolute chaos eons ago

- His voice is angelic, everyone adores it

- Childe and Kaeya are the most chaotic duo especially together

- they have the stupidest ideas and like to mess around

- and they are perfectly aware of their god-like looks and also have the audacity to use it "against" their fans (not that anyone complains)

- they are partners in crime when it comes to teasing Diluc

- Kaeya does it on a daily basis and Childe found it funny and decided to join him on causing inconvenience to others, lol

- Xiao, even though he's an idol, hates interacting with humans but makes an exception for fanmeetings, concerts, interviews and such because Zhongli raised him right--

- he has a soft spot for cats and would have one at the dorm if it wasn't for Venti being allergic to them (although he doesn't see any problem with it)

- speaking of the dorm, it's the pure definition of destruction

- Childe and Kaeya being the little shits they are room together and they are that kind of roommates that would blast music on full volume in the middle of the night just because they felt like it (but obvsly they do it to summon a demon in the form of sleep deprived Diluc because they know he's a light sleeper)

- Venti at some point moved in with them bc he felt like it and it's totally not because Xiao kicked him out--

- Zhongli and Diluc share a room because they both know how to appreciate a moment of peace and they just like each other's company; their perfect afternoon on their day off is sitting there with a cup of tea each and exchanging stories they've heard and/or experienced

- Albedo is probably the only person Xiao would room with excluding Zhongli (and maybe Diluc but it's debatable) because he's calm and collected, doesn't talk too much unlike the other three and when he does talk it's nice to listen to him

- also, the sound of sketching calms him down

- Venti somehow lives in all of the rooms in the dorm. First he roomed with Xiao and Albedo, but he got kicked out by the maknae. Then he gravitated towards Zhongli and Diluc but after a few days the redhead got so annoyed with him he ended up with Childe and Kaeya. The three of them share a braincell, that's why they get along so well, but even though he lives with them he sometimes ends up in the other rooms but that's just him

- he likes a change of scenery, ehe

- Zhongli's the dad of the group

- whenever someone has a problem they automatically go to him

- also, even though they are a really chaotic group, they are equally capable of working together (main reason why they are so goddamn awesome on stage)

- Xiao might act like he doesn't care but he does. A lot

- every time one of his hyungs is having a bad day he subtly tries to cheer them up. He feels awkward with words in these moments and physical contact isn't really his forte but instead he does things like buying them their favorite snack, or opting to watch their favorite film with them (even if he absolutely hates it he still would watch it)

- everyone obvsly knows what he's doing and they appreciate it

- Childe and Kaeya actually aren't as easy-going as they like to appear on stage. They are really emotional human beings and are probably most affected by hate comments and such

- Diluc, as much as he despises their attitude and teasing he has to endure bc of them, cares about them a lot and usually he's the one to knock some sense in them when they believe the haters or just have a bad day. He may not like their behavior but he's not heartless and deems them as family (even tho he wouldn't admit it)

- Albedo isn't a lot older than Xiao, maybe something around a few months, so everyone thinks of him like a second maknae and just because he gives off the vibe, y'know

- He loves drawing and sometimes does a sketch of one of the members or recreates a fanart of them he saw on Pinterest (cue to the fans going wild)

- He, alongside with Diluc, often cooks for them. They both are amazing cooks and I refuse to believe otherwise

- Venti has a playlist prepared for every occasion and uses them accordingly

- he also has playlists dedicated to every member of the group and it's his way of cheering them up or being there for them when they are separated

- as for the run episodes, well.... It can be described in one word

- chaos

- they're even capable of riling Zhongli up!

- tho he mostly opts to watch the chaos from the sidelines, snickering under his breath, he ends up in the crossfire from time to time

- contrary to popular belief, the most competitive ones are Diluc and Xiao

- they are so set on winning they sometimes forget that it's all a game

- Childe once got an elbow to the face in one episode but still no one knows who did it (it was Kaeya--)

- Albedo is just... There, tho he does enjoy it. More than he would admit

- Childe and Kaeya are dying of laughter most of the time and do stupid things that probably only they understand which makes the other laugh harder

- and Venti absolutely loves being the host: it gives him a perfect view of his friends who half the time have no idea what the hell is going on and, of course, power

- the fanmeetings are just the other excuse for them to make fun of each other and fool around

- fans don't mind it one bit because it is honestly hilarious to watch the utter chaos unfold

- even when they are signing albums and merch they throw comments here and there to provoke the other

- especially Xiao bc he's a softie when it comes to their fans and as long as the girls don't do anything... Weird, he doesn't mind interacting with them and sometimes finds himself actually enjoying the contact

- while we're on the fanmeetings--

- Zhongli is absolutely wonderful. He's the kind to delicately hold your hand, look into you eyes and smile softly while focusing entirely on you and what you have to say, indulging into conversation as well

- if it wasn't for the staff members reminding him that the time's up, he would spend at least an hour with every fan

- Childe is so excited he grins so much his cheeks hurt, and would look at you like you just made his day. You can be stuttering, super nervous and anxious and he'd just say it's completely fine and that you should take your time, even if the staff says that you should move to the next member

- Venti is the one that talks a lot, but would shut up and listen to you. He especially likes playing with your hands or just some games like rock-paper-scissors

- he also loves it when some fans show him their singing and he encourages them to go on, synchronizing with them and making an amazing duet

- Xiao is, like I've said before, a big softie. He really appreciates the fact that people find their music nice and genuinely like to listen to it. Would probably ask you questions like "what's your favorite song?", "What do you think of this album *gestures to the one he just signed*" etc

- he DID wear cat ears once because a fan gave them to him and they looked kind of cute

- he didn't hear the end of it for two weeks minimum and Childe and Kaeya probably have the pic as their wallpapers

- Diluc is the most... normal one? I mean, he enjoys the meetings a lot, but he doesn't show his excitement as much as the others. Conversations with him are like talking to an old friend that understands you and it's just so... wholesome

- he's honestly surprised when he gets gifts from the fans. He does appreciate it of course, but he just doesn't really understand why you would go as far as to give him something for no particular reason please give him lots of love he needs it-

- Kaeya is the one with the audacity to flirt with you. Loves seeing the blush on your cheeks and just enjoys annoying people. Though he sometimes stops it out of mercy and opts to talk with you like a normal human being--

- most protective of their fans. Sees one in distress or being picked on, immediatly steps in or tells a staff member to handle the situation

- Albedo is somewhere between Zhongli and Diluc's behaviour tbh. He's really sweet, loves talking to the fans and gets super excited whenever one of them shows him a fanart - especially if it's an original idea

- now let's get to the best part

- as lovely and peaceful as they are on a daily basis, they turn into freakin devils on stage

- kind grandpa with a calming voice? Who's that? A goddamn satan entered the chat

- ooooh, the cat lover? Sorry, we only have a mf demon available

- don't even get me started on the Childe-Kaeya-Diluc trio--

- all in all, they may be annoying each other night and day but they still love one another like family and their bond only strengthens when they stand in the spotlight

I had this idea today and, well, it turned out like this, hope you enjoyed! I also may be doing some sort of continuation to this with Xingqiu, Chongyun, Razor and Bennett as a trainee idol group so let me know if you'd like something like this and if you have any ideas for other groups!

part 46: Joshua’s Weeb Closet. (46/50)

“You know I can break out of this, right?” you say to Mingyu who is currently holding you down. He just scoffs knowing you can't move anywhere, but entertains you, “I know, it just makes me feel strong”

“You already strong, Gyu. Anyways where is everyone?” Seokmin asks. You look around the room only seeing half of your friends in Seungcheol’s small living room. Seungkwan and Wonwoo are sitting on the couch quietly talking. You wonder how they became friends because you've never seen them talk to each other. You assume Jeonghan and Joshua are probably somewhere making out so they don't have to deal with actually setting up the party. Seungcheol and Jihoon seem to be lecturing Chan about who knows what. Things are finally quieting down when everyone decides to watch the movie that's playing until someone bursts through the doors, “I'm here motherfuckers. The party is finally getting started”

“She drunk, isn't she,” Cheol asks as he points towards the small blonde girl in Mina’s arms. Seoyeon nods as she brings Chaeyoung to one of the rooms in the apartment. When she comes back, everyone turns towards the commotion at the front door. “You can't make me go inside. I'll bite you, you know I will”

“Soonyoung, if you just go inside, it'll make everything so much easier,” Jun says as he continues to try and push the smaller boy in. Everyone just watches him, Minghao, and Vernon struggle to bring Soonyoung in until Cheol eventually just picks him up and holds him down, “You two are gonna talk like two grown adults or I’m firing Jihoon”

“Woah why am I getting involved in this?” Jihoon asks walking over to the rest of the group. Everyone looks confused before Chan talks, “How can you even fire him?”

“Yea and with what job exactly,” Soonyoung says causing Cheol to roll his eyes, “Look if guys talk to each other, I'll tell you where I work”

“One, no one cares. Two, stop lying to yourself, it's okay if you're unemployed. We won't stop loving you just because you don't have a job, Cheollie” you say which only annoys him more. Jihoon confused asks, “Why do you guys really believe he's unemployed? The dude is literally our boss.”

“ ‘Our’ boss?” Seungkwan says, “yes our boss. He's at the building all the time. How did you not know that?”

“To be honest I thought he was just going there to hook up with you, Ji,” Jeonghan says before getting a drink. “Ew, why would I hook up with Cheol? He's like my brother. That would just ruin your friendship.”

“And that is exactly why I’m not admitting my feelings for Y/n!” Soonyoung screams before trying to run away but failing as Cheol is still holding him down. You decide yelling back is the best option, “like I would ever admit my feelings for you.”

“That’s it! Time out for you two until you can figure out your issues. Bring them to Shua’s weeb closet and don’t let them out until they're cool with each other.” Cheol says before lifting Soonyoung. Mingyu sees the message Cheol sends and brings you to Joshua’s room as well. “Hey hey, why are you taking them to my closet? What if they fuck in there?”

“Then they'll be happy again,” Vernon says with a smile on his face. Shua rolls his eyes before giving in. Eventually, you and Soonyoung are both shoved into the small closet. You try to stay as far as you can from him, putting a blowup titan in between the two of you. To ease the awkwardness after a few minutes of silence, Soonyoung asks, “You think Shua uses this thing as a sex doll?”

“If he does, I regret touching it,” you reply. The boy beside you laughs and says, “If I remember correctly, you and Joshua sleeping together for a whole two years after college, right?”

“Yeah well, it was kinda weird. Let's just say, you aren't the only furry in our friend group.” This makes him laugh again before finding a place to sit down. You take a seat beside him as he leans his head on your shoulder, “I’m sorry, Y/n.”

“For what exactly, Soonie?” You ask back wanting a better explanation than just a small sorry. He rolls his eyes before saying, “You already know why. For being immature and not dealing with things like an adult.”

“To be honest, none of us deal with things like adults. We're just the worst. I guess I’m sorry too.” you say back to him. The two sit comfortably in silence just relaxing in each other’s company. Why did we make things so hard for no reason? you wonder. That thought quickly goes away when you remember that the two of you are friends and you never want to ruin that, but your thoughts are interrupted, “I love you, Y/n. But I mean even if it's pretty obvious, I know I'm not very good at showing it.”

“But we're friends, Soon,” you say back before walking to the other side of the closet. You glance at his face for a second and see a bit of hurt in his eyes. Why am I still hiding how I feel? What’s the point of lying to myself and everyone else? You ask yourself before he breaks your thoughts once again, “Y/n, you say that, but then you're willing to fight with me for months because of the whole situation. Why are we just continuing to do this to each other?”

“I don't know, Soon. I really don't know,” you reply, overwhelmed, burying your face into your hands. He walks behind you and gives one of his famous, familiar back hugs to comfort you. You relax into the hug as he softly kisses your shoulder, “it's okay, Y/n. You don't need to have an answer right now. It's not wrong to want to take everything at your own pace. I just don't want to feel like I have to constantly avoid you because like you said, you are my best friend.“

“Are you trying to say ‘the power of friendship is so strong’ that we can get through things like this?” you sarcastically say as you laugh and lean into his arms. He giggles and replies, “That's exactly what I’m saying.” The two of you once again sit in silence. You take in everything from the moment you first saw Soonyoung as a small boy eating dirt in the playground to this exact moment You wonder when everything changed, “When did you realize you loved me, Soon?”

“There isn't an exact moment. I think just over time my love constantly grew for you. I didn't realize it at first and never really wanted to accept it because, well I'm pretty sure it's obvious why,” he responds. You feel the same way. You've always just told yourself it was because of that dance, but you know those feelings have always been there. More importantly, you know you've acted on those feelings before. “Why did you leave me after graduation? After I told you I love you?”

“Because I was stupid and a coward. I got jealous of Joshua, but then I started to think I wasn't as good as him. I wouldn't be good enough like him. I thought I wouldn't be able to make you happy like he would, ” he says honestly. You don't understand how he could ever think he wasn't good enough. You loved everything about the kid, from his weird tiger obsession to his incredible dance skills. “Soonie, you know I never believed you weren't good enough. And to be honest, Shua wasn't the greatest boyfriend. He was an amazing friend, but there's something off about knowing your boyfriend is denying his feelings for someone else”

“I guess that's how Seoyeon felt. It was just seeing you in the arms of a model like him brought up my insecurities I guess. I thought it would be too hard to compete. So I ran away because I didn't want to deal with the feelings, ” he explains still holding you in his arms. You feel how much bigger his arms got over the years and decide to ask him another question, “When did you start working out? Not that I'm complaining, but the last time Cheol asked you to work out with him you called him a loser and told him there's no reason to work out when you have a cute face.”

“Yes, my face is adorable, but I figured I'd just work out because why not. Also, Ji paid for a year's gym membership in China by accident,” he answers while softly laughing. The two of you continue to talk about random things for the next few hours without anyone interrupting you. You hear soft snoring on the other side of the door. Soonyoung quietly opens the door to not wake the sleeping person on the other side. You walk out to see Seungcheol and Wonwoo fast asleep on each other and quickly take a photo before sneaking away. You and Soonyoung decide to leave through the window to avoid questions or stares from anyone else. For the rest of the night, the two of you wonder who knows where and finally you feel happy to be with your best friend for once.
