the way that it's hen standing beside eddie in this moment of clear physical pain and pure, unbridled anguish and terror.
hen, who watched karen flatline a handful of episodes ago. who desperately worked to save her life in the back of that ambulance. hen, who thought she lost her wife, the love of her life, the mother of her child-
(only to end the episode with the wilson family at home together, safe and sound, hen fussing over her wife and getting her all set up on the couch to recover.)
hen, whose wife and child were simultaneously endangered in the lab explosion. hen, who was unable to rescue them herself, even though every instinct was screaming at her to run headfirst into the burning building.
(she may not have been injured the way eddie is here, but she was benched by bobby and barred from the scene on account of no longer being a paramedic.)
hen, who spent an entire episode subconsciously reflecting on her and karen's journey so far, everything they've been through together, how they built their family, and how they found their way.
(an episode written by nicole barazza keim, mind you, who happens to be- oh, yknow. one half of the writer duo behind pay it forward. no big deal. nothing to see here, keep it moving!)
so, like. of course it had to be hen, in this moment, who's here for eddie, because-
hen was the only witness to his widow's grief for buck.
christopher's back was turned, and eddie hurriedly wiped away his tears before chris could see.
but hen? she saw all of it. and we still haven't circled back to that fact.
in an episode called pay it forward, i'm starting to think this may be hen's chance to pass on the lesson that she and karen learned in tomorrow (courtesy of chimney). how did that go again, exactly?
oh, right:
chimney: hen is not actually dead, but-but she had a pretty bad near-miss accident last night.
karen: what the hell, howie? you can't just say stuff like that.
chim: i know. i just, i... we had a really tough call. and it was rough and there was a minute when i thought hen was dead, and it scared the crap out of me.
karen: and you decided to pay that experience forward?
chimney: yes. look... look, i know you two broke up. and i just thought you needed to know what it would feel like if you woke up tomorrow and you found out hen wasn't in this world anymore.
...
karen: because i thought you were dead. when howie called, there was a moment when i thought you died in that accident. when i felt like i'd lost you forever. and it scared me. to think of you being gone. never having a chance to fix things or try again.
hen: karen, it's too late.
karen: it's not. as long as we are both here on this earth... as long as we have tomorrow, it's not too late.

im ab to be annoying ab dimension20 fhjy but im genuinely loving the character arcs for the bad kids this season?
kristen going from self-annihilatingly stupid to trying to build a genuine bridge with the man who not only wielded the religion that traumatised her (bobby dawn), but also was trying to ruin her life, just bc she thought a grieving father ought to be comforted in some way? her genuine distress at being unable to revivify buddy even though the two had only had negative interactions, or her biting her tongue in front of her parents so she could better look after her little siblings? grappling with the fact that she still, on some level, expected practising religion to be easy and convenient for her as a holdover from an entire childhood spent being a Chosen One, and finally putting her nose to the grindstone and committing to working her ass off for a deity that couldn't even benefit her for a hot minute? making an effort to be cordial with tracker's new gf and letting go of that codependency? the kristen applebees from ep20 would NOT do all the same stupid shit as ep1 and i love that.
fabian being humbled by the narrative again and again has been an absolute treat for his character. the whole ivy/mazey situation was great: freshman/sophomore year fabian would've gone for ivy no sweat, i mean her character seemed pretty similar to pre-redemption aelwyn and he had a huge crush on her then. but this time, when he realised he'd hurt a genuinely great person, and intentionally swallowed his pride to make it up to mazey, even though it required him being 'uncool' with the whole twister thing. his general arc of learning that earnestness and humility doesn't make him less of a man felt like a natural extension of fabian defining his own version of masculinity- sure, a 'maximum legend', but also someone deeply involved in the arts, and someone who is less afraid of saying sorry and being vulnerable in front of someone he likes
fig. fig fig fig. what a woman. its been absolutely fascinating watching build her sense of identity over these three seasons. at her core, fig is a character that loves so deeply. in freshman, she was terrified of the depth of her own devotion, so she tried to distance herself emotionally from everyone. in sophomore, she built herself around that love for other people. in junior year, fig's arc has been learning she can do both: that she's defined by her love for others, but not solely by it. ik emily wanted to retire the character before this season but i think fig's paladin arc was the best capstone to her journey possible.
gorgug's arc has been about establishing clear boundaries for himself and i love it. im aware there's been some Discourse ab the mango soda scene but to me that was pretty easily chalked up to teenage insecurity. a big part of gorgug's arc was trying to believe in himself when everyone around him told him he was too dumb to follow his passion- imagine struggling in an area that you have no natural aptitude for, and someone comes along and also trounces you in the one area you thought you were the best in. i'd be petty and reactive too (gorgug follows up calling her a freak with the fact that she beat the shit out of him, so its clearly him just still smarting from a bruised ego and not actual malice). in general, i've really like gorgug learning to put his foot down and say enough is enough without completely losing his gentleness.
adaine hasnt had an obvious arc, but considering she addressed most of her baggage in the first two seasons, i'm not surprised. i would've liked to see the other bad kids address her 'teenage adult' behaviour, but her self-awareness about it and relying on fabian to pull in clutch for the oracool stuff still felt like she'd learned to rely on her friends at least + her reaching out to aelwyn and the two of them healing from their parents together has been rewarding it its own right.
riz is perfect and has learned nothing. his neuroticism is part of his natural swag

Duty Calls pt. 3
Summary: Patience is key, is what they say. Evan doesn’t know how to hold himself together, while (Y/n) is in surgery.
A/N: This is the last part of “Duty Calls”. Requests are welcome! :)
Part 1:
Part 2:
Tumblr media
………………………………………………………………………………
Evan was pacing through the room. At times like these, waiting on someone he cared about, he couldn’t sit still. This was the only thing he could do what made him calm down a little. His heart was pounding in his chest.
“Buck, can you please just sit down?” Eddies voice sounded through Evan’s eardrums.
The 118 was in the hospital too. Evan wanted to stay, and they wanted to support him. Even though they didn’t knew the sergeant he seemed to have a close connection with. So they decided to take the rigs out of service, so they could be with him.
He had promised her, he’d be waiting for her. He couldn’t break that promise. He didn’t have the heart to do that. He couldn’t just go back out there, fighting fires and saving people when one of the people he cared most about was hurt.
For other people, she was just another cop who had gotten hurt on call. But not for Evan. There was an unexplainable chemistry between them, which they couldn’t ignore or deny.
“Why is it taking so long” Evan murmured while he paced again through the waiting room. Completely ignoring Eddie’s request to sit down. Evan let his hands rest on top of his head. He was clearly impatient and getting anxious.
“Hey, she’s in good hands. At times like this, patience is key.” Bobby’s voice sounded through the waiting room, while his eyes connected with Evan. “I just wished she mentioned her stomach was hurting earlier. Maybe then she wouldn’t have coded on scene.” Evan’s voice sounded broken. He was clearly blaming himself for not noticing she had gotten hurt. Even though she seemed fine, and wasn’t complaining. Evan put his forehead against the wall, he wanted to slam his head into the wall, but he knew it wouldn’t make anything about this situation better. He was angry, sad, happy because she made it to the hospital alive. So many feelings were rushing through his body, he couldn’t describe it.
He felt a body standing closer to his side. A hand fell on his shoulder as he was still leaning with his forehead against the wall. He pulled his head back, so he wasn’t leaning on the wall anymore, as he looked to his right. Hen was looking at him with a concerned look on her face. She squeezed his shoulder. “You shouldn’t be blaming yourself for this. You couldn’t have known.” Hen tried to talk him out of the negative thoughts he had. “I was with her the entire time. From when she got out of that house, till the moment she collapsed in my arms. I could’ve noticed something!” Evan hissed.
“She was fine when I saw the two of you sitting on the back of the ambulance. There weren’t any signs she gave you, or us to notice that gunshot wound.” Hen assured him, letting him know that he didn’t miss anything. He didn’t do anything wrong. “But. What I do know, is that she isn’t going to get any better if you keep blaming yourself for this.“
“And that, that girl is not agreeing with your conclusion.” Hen continued after a moment of silence. Hen motioned towards the chairs with her head. “Come on, let’s sit down.” she said. Evan wanted to say no to her. That he wouldn’t sit down until they had news on his new friend, may I say crush.
But Evan finally agreed to sit down. Evan sat down next to Eddie, who gave him a pat on the shoulder. And Hen gave him a pat on the knee. Telling him he was okay. Evan’s elbows leaned on his thighs as a hand wiped over his face. Patience is key.
………………………………………………………………….
Every now and then, a nurse or doctor enters the waiting room, calling out a patients name. Every time when one of the workers enters the room, he could hear his own heartbeat pounding in both of his ears. He sat up straight, waiting to hear them call (Y/n)’s name. Whenever they didn’t call out her name, he sunk back into his chair.
After a rough 40 minutes, after the last doctor had left the room, another doctor enters the waiting room. Evan sat up straight again, focussed on the doctor. Hoping to hear her name.
“(Y/n) (Y/L/n)?” The doctor calls out. As soon as Evan hears the sound of the first two letters, he jumped up and hurried towards the place where the doctor was standing. As soon as the doctor turned to Evan, she started to explain the situation. “H-how is she?” He stuttered. He felt a few more people coming to stand behind him and on the side. Bobby put out his hand on his shoulder.
“Your friend is fine, the surgery went well. We removed the bullet from her body and were able to clean up the mess it made to her organs. The only thing we couldn’t prevent is that she may get a mark from the wound. She also inhaled a lot of smoke, so we got her on some medication for the symptoms, and of course oxygen.” The doctor explains. It’s a lot. Evan panted, as he releases a breath he didn’t knew he was holding. “Thank you.” He speaks through his breaths. “Uh, can I see her?” He carefully asked the doctor.
The doctor closed the document she was holding in her hands and held it in front of her body. “Yes, you can. But, she is still coming back around from the anesthesia. So it may be that she’s still asleep. She just came out of the surgery 15 minutes ago so she should be waking up any minute now.” The doctor answered. Evan didn’t have the words for it. So he nodded at the doctor as she leaves the group of people standing in the waiting room.
Evan turned to his team. “What are you waiting for? This is your time!” Chimney said as he stuffed a crisp in his mouth while he grabbed for some more out of the little bag.  “What am I supposed to say to her?” He asks his team. Eddie laughed.
“So.. you’ve been waiting in this room for hours. And now you’re panicking about that?” Eddie spoke. Evan didn’t know what to say, so he just went silent and stared awkwardly to the ground. “Dude just ask her out. We’ve seen the way you act around her.” Eddie continued.
“Okay so, you want me to go in there and be like: Hey! Welcome back! Do you want to go on a date?” He says with a fake smile like the question didn’t make any sense. Eddie put his hands on his hips and stared at Evan with a serious look projected on his face. “You know that’s not what I meant.” He looks him dead in the eye. “Okay now… Buck, calm down. Just be you, that’s more than enough. And you know that.” Bobby interrupted the two and puts a hand on Evan’s shoulder. “If you need us, we’ll be here.” Bobby nodded towards Evan, as a sign for him to go.
Evan nodded, and spun on his heels and walked through the hallway.
………………………………………………………………
Evan peeked through the window of the room, which was partly covered with blinds.  He saw her just lying there on the hospital bed. Her eyes were closed and underneath her nose was an oxygen tube. He just stood there, in front of that window. Looking at (Y/n), but with the tube underneath her nose, it was like he didn’t recognize her. She was always smiling when she was near Evan. That’s how he remembered her.
With a trembling hand, Evan’s hand slipped onto the lever of the door. He took a deep breath, pushed the lever down and opened the door of the hospital room (Y/n) was in. Evan slowly walked into the room and took place on the left side of the hospital bed she was lying on. Still asleep from the anesthesia.
After a few moments of just observing her, his hand slid into hers, and he gave it a reassuring squeeze. He sighed. Unsure what to do, should he say something? Should he stay quiet? He didn’t knew. As he feels (Y/n)’s fingers putting a little pressure on his hand. His eyes went from their hands together, to her eyes. She was slowly coming back around. She blinked, her eyes adjusting to the suddenly bright LED Lights on the ceiling shining into her eyes. A smile started to form itself on Evan’s face as he notices she was opening her eyes.
“Hey there sleepyhead” Evan spoke softly. The familiar voice ranging into her eardrums made her smile weakly. She scanned the room. (Y/n) was trying to figure out what was happening. She felt something underneath her nose, her right hand slowly made its way to her upper lip where oxygen tube was resting on. She wanted to grab it, and pull it away, but Evan’s other hand stopped her from grabbing the tube. “No, no, no.. don’t touch that.” His voice sounded as he pulled her other hand away too. He was now holding both of her hands, and gave them a gently squeeze. Her eyes met his again, “You’re still here” she whispered, barely audible. “I told you I’d be here, I don’t break my promises.” He reacted and pulled a chair, which was standing next to the hospital bed, closer and took a seat as he looses the grip on her hands.
(Y/n) placed her hand on his cheek. Evan smiled slightly at the touch, and felt jitters jumping up and down in his stomach. “What did the doctor say?” She asks, her hand still remaining on his cheek. He took the hand of his cheek, so he was able to speak freely. And took her hand in both of his, elbows resting on the mattress of the bed. “The surgery went well, they took out the bullet. But you inhaled a lot of smoke, but you got meds for that.” He answered her question. “The doctor also told me that the wound probably will leave a mark.” He continued. Her neutral look which was projected on her face, seemed to fade. And morphed into a sad look.
A feeling of sadness and failure rushed through her veins. She was marked for life if the scar didn’t fade away. Every time she would look at herself in the mirror, she would be remembered of that call. It wasn’t the worst memory, but she would’ve tried to forget it as soon as possible. But with that mark on her, she would always be reminded of that day.
She feels one of Evan’s hand rubbing over her wrist. And kissed her hand. “It’s gonna be okay.” He tried to reassure her. (Y/n) just stared in front of her, into the space of the room. “you’re gonna have a bad ass scar.” Evan tried to give her a pep talk. She wanted to smile because of his reaction. But she couldn’t.
The room filled itself with silence.
Evan tried to make the best out of things. “You know, if I looked at the mark..” he started. “The first thing I’d think of is how brave you were, to get into that basement all by yourself. All that matters is that you pushed your own feelings a side, to try and stop a simple argument. And yes, there went something wrong, but you got yourself out of there. That’s what I’d see.” He finished his speech.
They were silent. Just looking each other in the eyes. (Y/n) looked to her right, so she wasn’t facing Evan anymore. She bit her lower lip, trying to bite away the tears which were blurring her vision. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to blink her tears away.
After a few moments, she felt a hand cupping her cheek, which made her head move towards Evan, so she was facing him now again. His thumb swiped away a tear, which was starting to roll over her cheek. Adrenaline ignited in (Y/n)’s stomach. His eyes were dwarreling from her eyes, to her lips. His hand moved from her cheek to her neck. Evan came closer to her and conquered her lips. She placed her hand on his cheek. Their lips disconnected, she could feel his breathing, he was panting. Her nose was almost touching his.
He looked into her eyes and she looked into his. When their eyes connected, they both smiled. Evan took a breath and let his forehead fell against hers.
This is going to be an interesting little relationship.

Stealing Kisses
(Actors from The Boys in the Boat)
Joe Rantz, Don Hume, Bobby Moch, George (Shorty) Hunt
Tumblr media
tbitb masterlist
A collection of kissing scenes. Might write something for Chuck Day later, we’ll see, anyway, got carried away with Don, I would die for Bobby
Enjoy this garbage!
Joe Rantz:
Joe is a gentleman. He plans it’s out, wanting to take you on a decent date beforehand to set the mood and feel out just how much you like him. He doesn’t have money or a nice apartment or cooking skills for that matter. What he does have is his strength and his smarts.
So he takes you for a boat ride one sunny afternoon. He brings his guitar, opting for a little less country than the banjo, and paddles you out to a secluded spot. Despite his protest, you brought a basket full of treats and you talk as you share them under the hot sun.
His blond curls become waves of amber grain in the sunlight. After a while you fall into a comfortable silence which gives him the opportunity to pull out his guitar. Now he’s been planning this date for a little while so he picked some new songs to memorize. Sweet and romantic but not too lovey dovey. Though he doesn’t hide the fact that he loves country music.
As he strums his guitar he catches you intently staring at him. You look at him with so much affection that it makes him blush and stutter and he forget the words to his song.
“You’re cute, Joe.”
It makes him laugh so much he has to stop playing entirely. You tease him, enjoying his laughter.
After he recovers you both decide to venture out onto land. Wild flowers grow along the banks in great colorful bunches. Joe begins collection some, blue and purple and white and yellow, and he begins to weave them together.
It’s a special trick he learned while he lived alone, cutting and clearing trees for a living. During his breaks he taught himself to do this. The braid the delicate flower stems into bracelets and rings and crowns.
Joe makes the finest crown his has ever managed. He carefully lays the creation on your head and tucks away any loose strands of hair. ‘You’re gorgeous’ he wants to say. If he was a little more gutsy he would.
His hands trail down to cradle your cheeks. He’s not gutsy enough to tell you you’re pretty but for some reason he has the gall to lean down and kiss you.
His lips are a little chapped from rowing practices, the heavy breathing dropping his jaw and the wind biting his lips. But they’re gentle and sweet. Joe soaks up the private moment and rests his forehead on yours. He wraps his arms around your waist and sways back and forth with you. He starts singing again and you dance together in the afternoon sun.
Tumblr media
Don Hume:
Let’s be honest here, you’re more likely to kiss him first. You simply make him too nervous to even find the coordination to plant his lips over yours.
After their first win, Don is dragged out to celebrate. Luckily his sweetheart of a few weeks now is already there. You’re happy to see Don out and about whether or not he likes it. Bobby flashes you a wink as he pushes Don into a chair next to you.
It’s too loud. You can’t hear a word the other says. In a blinding moment of courage, Don takes your hand and pulls you out of the hall. His calloused palm is sweaty. His fingers tremble between yours. You remember him first approaching you, Bobby pushing him forward and then abandoning him at your library table.
“Hey, you’re Don Hume right? From the rowing team, right?”
He nodded, swallowing hard.
“What can I do for you, Don?”
His tongue had gone dry. Where are his words? His mouth dropped open “I—” you smiled at him and it made everything worse.
“C’mon, Don!” You heard Bobby whisper shout, a collection of the rowing team has amassed behind a bookshelf, quietly cheering him on.
“Can-can I takeyouonadate?”
He panicked and cursed himself out, thinking he spoke too fast and you don’t catch what he said and now he’s going to have to ask all over again.
“I’d love to go on a date.” Your smile brightened and Don’s shoulders drooped in relief.
He still stutters asking you on dates now.
Don finds himself walking you across campus grounds and the pale light of the moon. “You did so good, Don, in your race.”
“Thanks.” He speaks so softly the whistle of the night breeze in the leaves is almost louder. He turns to you, catching your gaze first and then blushing and nervously glancing down at your lips.
He’s never kissed anyone before, but he thinks he wants to kiss you.
There’s a comfortable silence that fills the space between your faces. Don’s eyes keep flickering to your Cupid’s bow. To that perfect curve. He starts to say something but his words leave him again as he feels soft lips shutting his mouth.
His lips are rough, worn from the blustering winds. He smells faintly of sweat and the river water that sprays up from the churning oars.
Don can hardly think enough to kiss you back. He blinks, stunned and you lean in to kiss him again and again. He’s overwhelmed by the warmth of your lips and the velvet soft press of your tongue. His shaking hands clutch at your cheeks, trying to ensure that it doesn’t end.
“Don, baby—”
“Kiss me again, please.”
There’s a smile on your lips when you wrap your arms around him. “Only if you promise to dance with me.”
“Yes, yes, okay. Just…”
This time he kisses first.
Tumblr media
Bobby Moch:
Bobby is a confident man. He maybe shorter than your average guy but his boldness makes up for it. But I also think you’d kiss him first.
You’re waiting for him to finish up practice, your routine being to go on a long walk and let Bobby blow off some steam before studying together and then going home. Bobby emerges from the shell house, clearly bothered, but he can’t help his smile when he sees you waiting on a bench with two warm cups of tea in your hand.
“Good evening, lovely, should we go to the library or the bridge?”
You hand him a cup and take his free hand. “I think… the library would be nice.”
“Me too.”
He squeezes your hand. He starts his rant and angrily blabbers on until you’re at the steps of the library. Somehow, between all his complaining, he’s managed to chug his whole cup of tea.
The library is fairly empty at this hour. Most students having given up on studying for the day and retired to either their dorms or gone off to work. Bobby drops his bag onto a secluded sofa and the two of you sit down for a nice, quiet study date.
While Bobby reads over his textbook chapter, you notice things about him. The wrinkle that forms on his forehead when he's focused. The tilt of his eyebrows. How his lips purse. You notice the tiny blemishes on his cheeks; they were once little nicks or pimples that he picked. You keep stealing glances of him. Absolutely fascinated by the way lamplight reflects off his skin or the curve of his jaw or the bob of his Adam's apple when he swallows. He hadn't really bothered to straighten out his hair after his shower and it's dried wild, tickling his face.
Bobby catches your gaze and it's stunning, how light pools in his eyes. How his irises brighten. His gives you an adoring look and returns to pouring over his textbook.
Then there's his lips. They look so soft and they're so gently rounded they look hand carved. Occasionally he'll lick his lips and you get a flash of tongue and white teeth. At some point you decide to just go for it. You've been dreaming of kissing Bobby for some time now but he's been content to let you take things at your own pace.
You reach of his textbook, "Need something?" Bobby asks genuinely. His gaze is uncharacteristically kind. He's always yelling at the top of his lungs or bossing around or saying something snappy. That's just Bobby. So why does he look at you like this? Like he's watching the sun rise.
"Yes, actually." And then you deliver a kiss to his lips. Bobby is caught off guard and before he can really even kiss you back, you're pulling away. "Sorry--"
"Don't even think about it." Bobby quips, "Get back here." He cups the juncture of your jaw and throat to bring you in but you hide in his palm. "Finish what you started. C'mon. Don't you feel like trying it again? I'm ready."
When your lips touch again Bobby is gentle in making it last. He never presses too hard but be doesn't let you shy away again either. He kisses you until the taste of him has stained your tongue and the oxygen is gone from your lungs.
Tumblr media
George "Shorty" Hunt:
Sly dog, this one is.
George is highly tactical(he likes to think so) and because he’s so brilliant he hatched a perfect plan to get you to kiss him. He wants to see how bold you can be.
He makes three plans, two of which fail. They go like this. The first time he tries it, you’re walking him to practice. His jacket is slung over his shoulder and he’s telling you about his engineering class. “You know there’s this term we use called osculate which is where the curve of on surface meets the curve over another and they share a common tangent.” You raise a brow. Shorty licks his lips, “It’s also formal code for kissing.”
“Don’t even—” you swat at him and push him towards the shell house. “Go practice and share a tangent with Day!”
“Hey now,” Shorty pouts and disappears into the shell house, defeated. That was attempt 1. The second attempt hardly goes better.
It’s the night after their first win and Shorty is dancing with you. His nerdy pick up lines proved to be a failure so he goes for building some good old fashion romance. He’d gotten you flowers and taken you out for dinner before he brought you here where the music is so loud it blocks out everyone else around you.
Now you’re slow dancing, cheeks pressed together, hands laced with one another. The first thing you notice is that he smells good. You have no idea if he’s wearing cologne or if it’s the soap he uses to wash his clothes but he smells divine. The second thing is how soft his hands are despite the wear and tear of the pad. The third is that he didn’t put any product in his hair. You’ve always loved to play with the dark curls and fluff it up. But sometimes he styles his curls and the products make his hair stiff. But his curls are free today which tells you he’s been thinking about you and all the things you do.
“Watcha smilin’ about?” Shorty asks, his eyes light up as he smiles back. He hopes you’re thinking about it. He hopes you’re wanting to kiss him.
You plant your hands on his chest, “Nothing, you just make me happy.” It’s quite possibly quite possibly the nicest compliment he’s ever received. And then you rise up on your toes a place a kiss on his cheek. It’s not what he expected but he’s as pleased as ever.
The third and actually successful attempt is on the train before he leaves for Poughkeepsie. You’d arrived late and missed him boarding. You force your way to the train and look through the window. George sees you and throws the window open. “I was afraid you weren’t coming!” He shouts of the chatter. He’d actually been heartbroken.
“Had trouble getting here!”
“Can I…” you don’t catch what he says.
“What!”
Shorty smiles and shakes his head. He turns and gestures for something. He opens the window as far as he can and you see Chuck and Johnny behind him. And then George is falling out of the window. First his shoulders and chest and then his hips and your almost scream but Chuck and Johnny are holding his thighs. He wedges one hand on the window sill to support himself and the other reaches for you.
He pulls you as close as he can and gives you a kiss goodbye. “I’ll come home with a gold medal!” Don’t you worry!” The people who notice give him a cheer and a laugh as he’s pulled back into the train. He blows you one last kiss and then the train starts rolling.

Buck & Eddie: Buck saw their future and Eddie prepared them for it!
(I created GIFs for this post but every time I posted it, Tumblr wouldn’t allow it to show up on the dashboard or in the tags🙄.  I’ve been trying to post this for three weeks but since I couldn’t with the GIFs, I’ve included the video from 2x8 instead.)
In 2x8 "Buck Actually", Buck saw how his and Eddie's future could be when he looked at the pictures of Thomas and Mitchell while they were on the scene of Mitchell's accident. Reminder, he was the only one who looked at the photos Thomas dropped on the ground when he rushed over to help Mitchell after their SUV crushed him in between the vehicle and the fence.  Several photos fell out of the album he was planning to take with them that day. Therefore, Buck saw how his and Eddie's future could be from start to finish.
The top of the photo album's cover read: "Love, Life and Adventures" and it also had a picture of Thomas' and Mitchell's first date on one side and a picture from their wedding day on the other. After he finished his conversation with Thomas, Buck saw their entire life including all the moments they shared together as a couple when he picked up each of the photos. Then he looked over his shoulder at Thomas right before he died.
Eddie and Bobby were both there with Buck while he performed chest compressions on Thomas.
Even though Eddie didn't see the pictures, he did see how distraught Buck was after Thomas died and he saw Thomas holding Mitchell's hand, actually they both saw it and he touched Buck's shoulder to comfort him.  He also heard Buck say, "That's Love!" and after he said it, he looked at Eddie not Bobby!
Not long after Buck saw a glimpse of their future via the photos that he picked up that showed him Thomas' and Mitchell's life together, Eddie started preparing for them to spend forever together in season 3 after he had been trapped in the well in 3x15 "Eddie Begins". Reminder, he changed his will right after he emerged and he named Buck to be Chris' legal guardian.
Also, it happened right before Buck met Red in 3x16 “The One that Got Away” and Red was the one who told Buck not to neglect having a life of his own. This was the same episode that Buck was afraid of being left behind but the narrative showed he wouldn’t be since Eddie had already prepared for their future. Buck was panicking about dying alone and everyone at the 118 leaving him like the people who worked with Red left him behind but Eddie was the ONLY one who said, "Anyway, that won't happen to US!" and Buck said, "It better not!" They were looking right at each other while they were talking and the camera remained on them instead of it being turned back to show the rest of the 118.
Eddie didn't tell Buck about his will until one year later in 4x14 "Survivors" after he had been shot by a sniper.
Here are more instances that illustrate the parallels regarding Buck and Eddie's future to the pictures Buck saw of Thomas and Mitchell.
Buck did chest compressions on Thomas in 2x8 (see above) and he did them again on Lev in 6x2 "Crash and Learn" but in 6x2, Eddie was working on Lev's friends and he wasn't there by Buck's side like he had been in 2x8. Eddie being separated from Buck could signify the fact that Buck had to take his journey alone during season 6 while Eddie waited for him to finally "get it", meaning Buck had to get the fact that Eddie's been waiting for him.
Reminder, right before Lev died, he said "I think I get it now".
A few months later, in 6x10 "In a Flash", Eddie did chest compressions on Buck after he was struck by lightning and HE WAS THE ONE WHO RESTARTED BUCK'S HEART EVEN THOUGH CHIMNEY HAD BEEN DOING COMPRESSIONS ON BUCK FOR MORE THAN THREE MINUTES.
The last 17 seconds was ALL EDDIE and he's the one who brought Buck back to life. He corrected Chief Williams after she said Buck was dead for three minutes when he interjected and replied, "Three minutes and seventeen seconds".
This show is so unhinged it's ridiculous but there are two questions that plague season 7.
Will 9-1-1 continue the original narrative they started in season 2 that has continuously illustrated BUCK'S & EDDIE'S EPIC LOVE STORY in season 7 and make them a CANON COUPLE?
Or will they stay on that redundant BS with Buck and Eddie dating one dimensional women like they did in seasons 4-5?
Only the showrunner(s), writers and producers know the answer to that question but hopefully they'll finally let them be together so they can be happy!

7x05 Buddie Meta YDKM Part 4 (of 4)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
I really didn't want this meta to be four parts again, but there's just SO MUCH to analyze. Thanks for sticking with me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eddie is aware that going the route of trying to force a relationship, the route of over-committing almost never works for him, and yet he still wants to try again despite knowing that something inside him was trying to warn him this episode. He's ignored the signs yet again.
Going back again to the notion that Eddie doesn't really want to try again with this relationship because he so desperately wants to get to know Marisol. We know he doesn't, because we just saw when he was on his own, he closed the box on Marisol's things, his metaphorical chance to get to know her. So what does he really want to work out this time? The relationship. A relationship. Eddie would really like it if this relationship could work because as we saw earlier in the episode with Bobby, Eddie wants the relationship so badly, the domesticity so badly, that he doesn't care who it's with. He let go too early with Ana, and this time he's not doing that.
Eddie's words don't match his actions. He tells Marisol he wants to start over with her, get to know her, but he doesn't really act like it. It's possible in future episodes he might try to put in an effort, but at least from his attitude right before Marisol walked in, it didn't really feel like he was being genuine. So I'm not sure if really getting to know her is really what he wants. Sure, maybe this time he'll get to know Marisol, but I don't think it'll matter what he does or doesn't learn about her. Something will always be wrong, and he's going to have to learn that on his own.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The tone of this scene is made to make us feel hopeful, and yet the words themselves aren't really that hopeful. They speak of Marisol moving out in the hopes of starting over and getting to know Eddie better. Though he's smiling, Eddie's words feel odd. He's happy she's moving out. I'm not entirely convinced it's because he's excited to get to know her. Maybe that's an aspect of it, but it just feels to me like he's relieved she's moving out.
Additionally, I want to point out that Marisol was first introduced in season six in an episode called Home Invasion, and in this episode that was exactly what she was. She invaded Eddie's home, though it was an invasion he invited, and almost immediately regretted. I get the feeling that this episode's title isn't to be ignored because although we finally got to know a little bit about Marisol, Eddie failed to really learn the true root of his issues--because it's not catholicism, though it may be a part of it. When Eddie closed the box on getting to know Marisol, he closed the box on examining himself further, and therefore, Eddie still hasn't gotten to know his true self yet. However, I do believe this is the start of his arc, and more of this will be progressively deconstructed throughout this season, and probably extend into next season. I get the feeling that we're laying the groundwork now and that next season it's going to really pop off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the same vein, Buck admits that he and Tommy don't know much about each other as well. The difference here is that Buck actually looks open to learning more about Tommy, open to actually seeing if what they have could be something worth exploring further.
Tumblr media
Tommy however does demonstrate a real care for Buck's feelings here. Maybe he could've communicated that a little bit better after their date, but his actions were done out of care for Buck in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This line was once again vague. Because in the moment, you're lead to believe that Buck's unsure about possibly being in a relationship with a man, but wanting to explore it. In my opinion, this is another one of those statements just like the one Maddie gave him earlier in the episode, where he knows that he's on the right path now that he's discovered and accepted that he likes men, but he's not yet discovered who the right person he should be on this path with is yet. But something in him tells him that this, exploring men, is the right path, and that's what he's ready for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But for the time being, Buck wants to explore what he has with Tommy and I think that's a good thing. But it is also a good indicator that Bucktommy is not endgame and somewhere inside Buck (and likely Tommy too), he knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then get an interesting parallel with Buck and Eddie once again by having Buck make a pretty big step forward with Tommy. Most people would agree that asking someone you've only been on one date with to be your date to a wedding you're involved in is a pretty big jump. It's slightly more "serious" than they are at the moment. Whether or not this will backfire is yet to be seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I very briefly want to touch on the characters they're supposed to be. I originally did not understand the reference, but I saw this opinion piece someone posted on twitter and thought it was interesting to share.
Tumblr media
I just find it interesting that the writers made the choice for Buck and Eddie to be wearing couple costumes in the likeness of a pair that was also at some point read as queer-coded and had an "inseparable" relationship yet was never allowed to move out of subtext. Even if it wasn't the original writers of Miami Vice's intention, that doesn't matter to me. The fact that the relationship between Crockett & Tubbs appears to be a mirror to Buck & Eddie is what fascinates me.
This episode as a whole was mostly what I was expecting with Eddie doubling down on Marisol, but at the same time, I did NOT see the nun stuff coming and I definitely didn't see them diving into catholic guilt coming. My hope is that this laying down the groundwork to have Eddie work through these issues more later because this feels far from over.
I'm confident that this is the start of Eddie's eventual queer realization arc and I'm willing to wait however long it takes for them to write through it thoroughly.

Buddie Secret Relationship Conspiracy Manifesto
Hello. Welcome to possibly the most delusional buddie theory yet. This is a collaboration with @swiftiebuckleys, and as such I would like to cite our sources accordingly: dude, trust us.
Okay so I know a lot of people have talked about the theory of buddie possibly being in a secret relationship that is even a secret from the audience during season 6. For me, this started during 6A. It started because I was thinking about how 601 started with such a poignant and domestic Buckley-Diaz family scene that, as a part of a premier that was meant to establish where the characters are after four months of hiatus, told us Buck, Eddie and Christopher are living in each other's pockets as their own little family at the start of the season (I even wrote about this in this meta I posted while 6a was airing lmao).
But then for the rest of 6A there really wasn't any significant on-screen buddie or Buckley-Diaz moments, even though there was plenty that was implied at, including: Buck and Eddie planning to go to Marisol's house to help with repairs without the rest of the firefam, Buck and Chris hanging out so Chris potentially telling Buck the secret about skipping school even though he didn't tell Eddie, Buck and Eddie sitting in the back of the waiting room together separate from the rest of the firefam while they waited for news about Karen, and Eddie giving Hoover to Buck and convincing him to keep him even though his building doesn't allow dogs. What do all but one of these moments have in common? They're moments where Buck and Eddie were either alone or away from anyone who would know them from the rest of the gang and wouldn't feel the need to hide their relationship. When at work, Buck and Eddie had a reasonably normal amount of on-screen interactions, but it was only their moments happening outside of work that was pushed to the off-screen. (Bonus: one on-screen 6A moment that lives in my head rent-free and screams of secret relationship is that shot of them stepping into frame together and holding eye contact while the song lyrics in the bg go "I want your sex and your affection when I'm holding you close" in 609.)
However, while this^ is all well and good, it's 6B that really gives the secret relationship theory its wings.
Episode 10 gave us the lightning strike with a sequence that was shot almost entirely from the perspective of Eddie. While in the initial aftermath of the strike we see the shock on Hen, Chimney, and Bobby's faces, the scene is in slow-motion and muted until Eddie realizes what's going on and we watch every minute facial expression on his face as the horror dawns and he snaps into action. Eddie's reaction is what sparks everyone else's movement and then we see him completely forgo his own injuries and his own safety to save Buck. In the secret relationship trope, the near-death experience is a lot of the time what forces the couple to blow their cover and reveal their relationship. That didn't happen here as buddie were already close enough to warrant the strength of Eddie's reaction and Buck was unresponsive and there wasn't any time to lose. HOWEVER, episode 11 and the absence of a scene with Eddie alone at Buck's bedside can be explained by the fact that he couldn't be shone there or his bedside confessions would have given them away to the audience. As it is, other than Margaret and Maddie, Buck's mother and sister, he's the only one dressed in all black, his composure crumbling and unable to make eye contact with Buck's body in the hospital bed, the perfect picture of a grieving widow.
Episode 12 has the infamous couch scene which is meant to signal to the audience that Eddie is the couch Buck has been searching for, even if Buck himself doesn't know it. However, in the context of the secret relationship theory, what if the total lack of reaction from Eddie about Buck falling asleep on his couch is because they already know this?
Episode 13 has the infamous poker scene and this is where the theory actually diverges for a lot of people. Going with the original theory that buddie have been together since before 6A, this would explain Buck's lack of reaction to Eddie telling him to get dressed up and taking him out on what is essentially a date - he wasn't surprised or suspicious because it wasn't unusual. If you go back and watch the scene, you'll notice that it opens right when Buck and Eddie are approaching the door and about to be in the presence of other firefighters, but initially they're walking away from a dark alley while fixing their clothes - why would they need to fix their clothes unless they got messed up in the first place? Why wouldn't they show us the before or after of the poker scene, why only the parts where they're in the presence of other people from the department? Plus, Eddie really was looking TOO blatantly hungry in that entire scene, and he wasn't really hiding it from Buck - maybe because he's allowed, and expected, to look. This isn't even to mention the scenes of Buck, Eddie, and Christopher being a family, but I will go back to those later.
Where this episode splits this theory is the alternate potential for them to have gotten together after the poker game (my initial post after the episode first came out.) This would have been the perfect opportunity because there's really no way that if they weren't already together, the thought that this might be a date hadn't crossed Buck's mind (and, again, Eddie really did look too fucking horny in that scene it wasn't something you could ignore.) The next outside of work scene we see the Buckley-Diaz' in is the baking scene with Buck and Christopher. Eddie's location is completely unknown - he could be on shift, he could be running errands, he could be with Pepa - but the fact that Buck and Chris are together and baking for his class and planning dinner really drives home the fact that they are a family once again. However, the easy confidence of Buck parenting Christopher and the way he glowed with happiness in that moment would make even more sense if he had had his place in the Diaz family as Eddie's partner and Christopher's other parent confirmed to him.
One way to possibly combine the two theories is if we assume that Buck and Eddie were actually fwb throughout 6A (an idea given to me by @captainragtag) but actually got together after the poker scene. ANOTHER way is if we assume they've only been fwb, even after the poker scene. Them being fwb would potentially explain some holes in the theory, moments where they should have had a bigger reaction to something or known something beforehand if they were in a relationship (kind of the sperm donor arc and Eddie's reaction, but that could also be explained by Eddie's lack of reaction being because he already knew and was just pretending to be finding out for the first time with everyone else.)
Going into episode 14, all of these theories could explain the *gestures vaguely* everything about Eddie's storyline in the episode. If they're hiding a relationship, the absence of any mentions of Buck when talking about Eddie (and Christopher) being alone would make sense, especially after how pointedly the previous episode showed that Eddie is always spending his free time with Buck, with or without Christopher. It would also explain Buck's extremely unsubtle date-ruining advice - either they're together and Buck just doesn't want Eddie to go on the date because he doesn't want to share even to keep up pretenses, or they're fwb and Buck is jealous and afraid to lose Eddie and their relationship if Eddie starts actually dating. Also, considering how many pure fanfic tropes the writers have used before, it's safe to assume they have at least a baseline knowledge of how buddie are written by fans and what's the first trope every fanfic reader in this fandom learns about? Christopher's first and foremost wingman duty is to pack his stuff and go to a sleepover so his dads can do unholy things to each other. Christopher being at a sleepover when Pepa told Eddie to come over and him insisting that he was alone at home when just last episode we saw buddie spending all their time off shift together is just a little too sus if you ask me. Another secret relationship moment in the episode is Eddie going for the wrong gear shift in his own car. He initially reached for the gear shift on the center console when that's not where it is in his truck. But do you know where the gear shift is in a jeep? I'll give you one guess. Do we know anyone who owns a jeep? I'll give you another guess. This would make total sense since we know Eddie is a passenger princess and Buck would be driving them everywhere if they were in a relationship. Even when Buck isn't the one driving, Eddie would be much more likely to borrow his car more often if they were in a relationship and basically living together.
If this all doesn't convince you, I would like to leave you with the reminder of a moment that I'm sure has haunted all of us since 614 came out:
Tumblr media
Actors are always aware when they're on camera and even if they aren't, the dozens of production people, including the director, would be. Do with that what you will.
(If anyone has anything they'd like to add to this feel free to message me or send me an ask and I'll make edits! And, I mean, this is all just for fun not to be taken seriously, but if there is a point that you think really brings the theory down also feel free to send me an ask about that lets see if I can provide a suitable explanation.)
edit: another thing to keep in mind as pointed out by the brilliant @swiftiebuckleys is the precedent set by 606 "Tomorrow" for flashbacks showing the start of a relationship.

Death and the Lady: Chibs Telford x Reader
An idea I've been tossing around in my head. Might continue it if anyone is interested in more.
--------
The plan to pull any forensics team from Lodi heading to the Sons burnt warehouse and the two dead bodies in the cellar of said warehouse was a bold one. Jax was proud of himself for  coming up with a creative solution that would require no spilt blood.
He spoke quick to present his plan to his uncertain brothers. “Look, all we need for a murder is bodies and a crime scene.”
Chibs was fast to speak, not quite getting how this was any different from the prior plan they’d had to just kill some Nords and attract the attention of Lodi’s forensics team. "Ya lost me Jackie."
Jax replied the answer was so obvious. “Skeeter, guy’s got more gambling debt than he can handle. I’ll make it worth his while.”
“The cemetery guy?” Bobby questioned doubt clear in his voice.
Jax nodded his head sure of his plan. “Yeah, I give Lodi a front-page murder and we don’t stir up another shit-storm that might bite us in the ass.”
He cringed the second the words left his lips. There was only one issue that might screw up the plan. Skeeter the Sons connection to access to Charming’s nearest crematorium and one of its oldest funeral homes wasn’t in town at the moment.
“Shit.” the statement left him.
Tig groaned, not entirely thrilled that the plan was being shifted away from his original idea or just straight up murdering some Nord or some other scumbag. “What?”
Jax cringed again, hating to admit that there was a wrench in the plan. “I just remembered, Skeeter’s not in town.”
Tig stood up again ready to jump into action on the original plan. “Alright, that settles it. We stick to my plan.”
Jax spoke again, raising his voice as another solution entered his mind. “Y/N.”
Clay furrowed his brow, the name somewhat familiar though it had been years. “She's back in town?”
Jax ran a hand through his hair, a sigh leaving him. “Yeah, she’s taken over the family business apparently. She’s back. Been back for a few months now.”
Chibs frowned totally lost on just who this Y/N was that everyone but him seemed so familiar with.
He continued to follow the conversation, his interests peaking further as Jax spoke again. “I don’t know…she’s cleaned up her act apparently. She’s worth a shot though. She’s got enough history with the club. I don’t think she’s cleaned up enough to go running her mouth if we approach her with this.”
Clay shook his head at this news not missing a chance to push back against the idea that she’d be totally useless to them. “Money talks, clean act or not. You make contact with her, get this plan on the road. Who knows, she might come in handy in the future, if she’s down to accept our gifts in exchange for a few favors. Might be smart to have a funeral director readily available. Who knows just what she has access to. From what I’ve heard her father left some debt behind and we all know her brother is off in the county nuthouse. She might be willing to play ball if we offer her some incentive to chip away at that debt.”
Chibs furrowed his brow all the further having to wonder just who this Y/N character was aside from a funeral director that his brothers all seemed to have some familiarity with.
Chibs had been patched over in Charming for about a decade now, surely he would remember some funeral director that had some sort of wild streak that his brothers all seemed to remember?
He mulled over the thought as the club proceeded to discuss their plans.
He wasn’t the only one mulling over the change in plan. Jax felt his stomach twist uncertain if Y/N would be as willing to help out debt or not.
He’d heard the gossip around town and it all seemed to indicate that little miss Y/N had turned over a new leaf and had really matured from the twenty year old girl who’d been sent away by her father years before.
Jax rubbed the back of his neck, his stomach churning at the path that lay ahead of them.
Y/N Y/L/N was no Skeeter, but she would work in a bind.
He just hoped she was not as on the straightened arrow as it appeared.
—---------------------------------------------------
The cemetery in Charming was actually quite massive despite the smaller town. Generations upon generations had been buried on the land. On the property sat a crematorium that was used by the few funeral homes in Charming as well as a chapel where services might be held.
One of the funeral homes that often used the on sight crematorium was Y/L/N and Sons Funeral Home.
Ironically enough, there weren’t any sons in the business…at least not anymore.
Y/N Y/L/N had taken up the mantle of her father’s business. The funeral business was something she’d fought against for so long.
She had resented it in a way. She resented being known as the creepy kid in school because her father buried the dead. She resented the expectation that she would follow in her father’s business once her brother had clearly proven he just wasn’t stable enough. She’d resented the fact that even though she was expected to follow this path that the And Sons part of the name wouldn’t be dropped.
She had rebelled and she’d rebelled hard. Charming’s local MC had given her an environment to indulge in that rebellion. She had used the environment to cope with her personal issues and heartbreaks. She’d barely been legal the first time she’d visited the Sons clubhouse and during each visit after that she’d allowed herself to fall into the chaos of a Friday night party.
A few years of her life had been dedicated to that chaos until she’d hit rock bottom. Drinking and associating with Charming’s criminal element had been fun, until it had not been so much fun.
Her father had given her an out and she’d taken in traveling east to start anew. She’d tried to find a life outside of death, but she’d found within a few years that she did have a genuine respect for the family business.
It was all she’d ever known and she’d decided to follow her father’s footsteps on her own terms. She’d enrolled in mortuary school out east and had found work upon gaining her license.
She’d assumed she’d finally escaped both Charming and her past.
The past had a way of biting you in the ass though. She’d learned that the hard way.
The family business had been left to her and though she wanted nothing more than to remain out east she’d realized that the family business wasn’t the only thing she’d inherited from her father.
Debts and her brother were now her responsibility. So, Y/N had traveled back west, back to Charming.
She should have known the MC would come knocking eventually. Her past associates would eventually realize she was back in town.
So, it should have been no shock with the crematorium doors swung open at least one familiar face walking in the door.
She turned from the cremains she’d been sifting through the thick rubber gloves she wore making her hands feel damp with sweat.
Chibs Telford wasn’t sure what he’d been expecting, but the pretty young woman standing by a flaming cremator wasn’t at all what he’d pictured when he heard the words funeral director.
She was not dressed all in black the way he’d been picturing. To be honest he’d imagined some stuck up and possibly even creepy looking woman in a black pantsuit.
The pretty woman standing by the cremator was wearing dark wash blue jeans of all things and a black tank top. Her brow was somewhat damp with perspiration from the heat of the crematorium. Chibs took notice of the bead of sweat that traveled down her neck disappearing between the valley of ample cleavage the sight sending a jolt of lust through him. She had a nice figure; attractive curves that were complimented by the tight fit of her jeans. Her long hair was piled on top of her head fastened with a clip in an attempt to deal with the heat. He furrowed his brow as he spotted a pair of baby pink converse sneakers on her feet.
She was less Morticia Adams than he’d been anticipating. She looked more like she should be hanging out at a farmers market or maybe having ice cream at one of the mom and pop parlors on Main Street.
The pretty woman he’d been so unabashedly admiring finally spoke a sigh leaving her lips. She looking none too pleased by her guests. “Jackson.”
Chibs felt his heart lift the soft sweetness of her voice not what he'd been expecting at all even if she didn't sound happy.
“Hey, darlin, long time no see.” Jax replied always the flirt even when on business.
Chibs frowned a small part of him, somewhat certain he didn’t like the clear undertone of a history between his brother and this young woman. He pushed back the thought knowing it was ridiculous.
Y/N sighed, shaking her head, her eyes studying the friends Jackson Teller had brought along. She didn’t recognize a single face other than Jax Teller’s. Though she guessed it shouldn’t be too much of a shock. She’d been away for so long.
She didn’t study her company for long, a sigh leaving her. “I’m assuming this isn’t a social call.”
Jax gave her a small sheepish smile. “Not entirely.”
“Skeeter’s not around, I’m afraid. He’s out of town, hopefully not at the racetrack.” She remarked a small frown crossing her features at the thought of her father’s associate.
Although she didn’t approve of Skeeter’s conduct at times, she knew he’d been a loyal employee to her father. He was now her loyal employee. She appreciated that loyalty despite his habits.
That loyalty hadn’t stopped him from associating with the Sons of course, but who was she to judge given her own past.
“They really cremate bodies here?” Half Sack spoke getting close to the cremator gazing within the flames.
“Aye an sometimes we do.” Chibs spat out smacking the prospect in the back of the head before yanking him from the machinery.
Y/N raised an eyebrow, the thick Scottish brogue not entirely expected. She gazed at the owner of the accent unable to place him anywhere in her memories.
She knew her memories from that time in her life might be somewhat hazy, but she was sure she’d remember a Scottish accent in the middle of northern California.
She was certain she’d remember the man standing in front of her from the accent alone. She felt her stomach churn noticing the deep scars embedded into his cheeks. If she hadn’t remembered the accent then she definitely would have remembered the scars.
He gazed back at her his sunglasses dropping slightly, his dark eyes gazing at her, the action giving her an unexpected reaction.
She frowned, not entirely amused at the mixture of lust and curiosity that stirred up in her under his gaze.
She wasn’t that girl anymore, a voice in the back of her head scolded her. She’d grown up and changed. It had been almost ten years and she was a new person, a better person. She was no longer the biker groupie.
Jax stepped forward, breaking the spell that had seemed to wash over both Chibs and Y/N without anyone around them really taking notice. “We aren’t here to see Skeeter Darlin’. We gotta ask you a favor. I’m here to ask an old friend a small favor.”
“Favors are never small with you from what I remember. They also usually have a way of biting me right in the ass if my memory serves me right.” She replied, reluctant to pull her eyes from the Scotsman and back to her old friend.
Jax smirked, nodding his head. “Fair enough.”
He cleared his throat fast to speak again. “We need two bodies.”
“Jesus Christ, Jackson. Why are you coming to me with this? I’m not some club hangaround anymore. I’m trying to be a better person and you’re dragging me into this shit.” She snapped a groan leaving her as she took off her gloves slamming them down on the counter beside the cremains she’d previously been attending to.
Jax sighed, not entirely shocked by the reaction. He prayed he was right when he’d remarked that she wasn’t so on the straightened arrow that she wouldn’t go blabbing the information to the Charming P.D.
“I know it’s a lot to ask but…” He barely worked out before she spoke again.
“A lot to ask? You do realize when I got licensed I had to take several classes on the ethics of the funeral profession. I’m pretty sure handing out bodies to the local MC violates so many of those ethics I swore to uphold and is considered abuse of a corpse. You do realize I could lose everything if you fuck up and it leads back to me? You aren’t just asking me to let you borrow a freaking cup of sugar here, Jax.”
Chibs twisted his lips somewhat amused by how browbeaten Jax seemed to look upon this outburst.
If the outburst had come from a less pretty woman, Chibs might feel frustration. After all, they were depending on this girl to help them out of an utter shit-storm.
A small part of him had to admire the balls she had to speak to a dangerous looking biker in that tone of voice.
She was bold, bold and pretty were admirable traits in a woman.
Jax reached in his kutte pocket pulling out a thick manilla envelope. “I know, I’m sorry. It’s a lot to ask, but we’re in a bind here. SAMCRO is willing to compensate you for taking the risk.”
He paused handing over the envelope feeling somewhat guilty to even bring it up. “I know your old man was struggling to keep things running towards the end. This could help alleviate some of the burdens he left behind.”
She gazed down at the envelope, part of her wanting to toss it right back in his face the other part of her wanting to toss in the cremator as a showing of just what she thought of his attempts to buy out her morals.
She cringed a the heft of the envelope her mind crossing over those burdens Jax was mentioning.
Business was steady, but her father hadn’t been in the best health towards the end. It hadn’t been easy to tackle some of the debt left behind even with steady business.
She also felt her mind flash to her older brother. Institutionalization was expensive, even on a state level.
She gazed within the envelope making up her mind knowing it might damn her soul.
She shook her head, her jaw tight. “Two bodies?”
Jax nodded his head relieved that Clay had been right. Money talks. “Yeah, one white guy and a Mexican guy.”
She rolled her eyes, tempted to snap that this wasn’t a custom order shop and he’d get what he got and he’d be damn happy with it.
She gazed at the still flaming cremator. “I had a guy who died in a work accident….uh worked for the electric company. It’s a closed casket. He didn’t have enough of a family to give a shit and suddenly want an open casket at the last second. They’d barely even pay for me to do the embalming. Stop by the funeral home in a couple of hours and you can have him.”
She paused shifting in place, hating herself for doing any of this. “There’s a fresh burial, one of my guys just filled in the hole this morning…cheap casket. He should be fresh enough still, I’m a damn good embalmer…even with the cheap jobs.”
She gazed down at the envelope, a voice in the back of her head screaming she was completely soiling the profession she loved. She was scum. She’d been entrusted to care for these bodies and make sure they had a peaceful rest, and this was what she was doing.
She ran her thumb along the envelope, a louder voice claiming that the money would help.  The money would help ease the debt and help make sure her brother got the best care available.
Between the debt and her brother's care she was drowning.
She was at risk of losing a family business that had been there for generations. It was her legacy.
She knew she could sell the family business and pay some of those debts but that seemed like such a shameful thought. Then there was the issue of her brother. Daniel needed around the clock care and it got pricey. The money could help to keep providing that care.
Without the institution he'd be moved to being in an even worst institution as a practical ward of the state or worst kicked out of the hospital. She knew he wouldn't stay medicated on the streets and she couldn't take care of him. There was no way he could live with her in his condition. They'd gone down that road before. Her father couldn't care for Daniel and she sure as hell couldn't.
She knew she was betraying the dead by taking this money but a voice in the back of her head snapped that the dead didn't need money. She sure as hell needed the money. Selling her morals and ignoring her conscience was the one way out of tunnel of debts and uncertainty. This action would surely damn her to hell and she couldn't take a moral high ground that she was a better person now.
It was damn hard to be the better person when you were stuck eating a diet of mostly ramen noodles and selling plasma just to barely scrape by. It was hard to be the good person when your brother needed yet another expensive medication to keep his symptoms under control. It was too hard to be the good person when you were so damn tired.
She knew she was going to hell for this, but she already felt like she was in hell half the time anyway with all the financial stress.
She sighed as Jax spoke, giving her a small grin. “Thanks Y/N. I know this is a big ask…”
“It is.” She interrupted a sigh leaving her.
She spoke again a grimace crossing her features knowing if she was damning her soul for this action she might as well fully commit. “From now on…you don’t go to Skeeter for favors. I’m your first contact.”
Chibs raised an eyebrow once again taken by the brass balls on the girl. He resisted the urge to smirk a little amused; she felt comfortable presenting this idea with as much of a fuss as she’d put up a second ago.
She spoke again, shaking her head. “You’re right, the money helps in more ways than one. I’m willing to do more favors in the future for a price…we both know I’m more reliable than Skeeter any day of the week.”
Jax grinned at the proposal. Maybe Clay had been right, having a funeral director in SAMCRO’s arsenal did hold the possibility of promise. “Of course, darlin’. You’ll be our first call. In fact we might need to borrow this crematorium later.”
“It’s done. Just call me. My number hasn’t changed.” She remarked that strange jealous feeling stirring up in Chibs’ gut again.
Her number hadn’t changed, a number Jax Teller apparently knew.
He didn’t have long to focus on the strange sense of jealousy or how it confused the hell out of him as the Sons turned to leave ready to leave and get this plan moving forward.
Chibs wasn’t pulled from his thoughts until Juice finally spoke, the man not having said anything this entire time. “I’m glad to be out of that place. It gives me the creeps.”
“Aye, the creeps.” Chibs remarked not able to focus on the environment they’d just been in the woman in that environment far more interesting. She was far from creepy.
To be honest Chibs Telford wasn't sure what to make of her. That concept puzzled him.
Juice watched as Jax sped up ahead of them before he spoke almost as though he could hear just what Chibs was thinking. “At least she’s not creepy as hell like Skeeter…I mean she's spooky given her job...but she is kind of hot…wonder what she meant by club hang around. She doesn't look like the average croweater...at least I don't get that vibe. Curious to know what that history is.”
Chibs frowned as that jealous little feeling stirred in him again. He shook it away a huff leaving him unable to stop himself from agreeing. “Aye…spooky.”
He paused shaking his head hating to admit that he was a little curious himself about just what the history surrounding Y/N was.

Art Masterpost: Let Hands Do What Lips Do Story by: entropic_saudade (@entropic-saudade) Art by: sidewinder (@hawkland) I've been so excited about this sharing one, and the day is finally here!!! I first watched "The Shape of Water" last summer on a flight home from Italy. The entire time I was thinking to myself, "This is a Dean/Cas story. This is so very much a Dean/Cas story." So when the @cdrcrossoverbang came along, I knew immediately what one of my entries would have to be.
Tumblr media
The above was the piece I put in for claims. It's directly based off one of the most popular stills from the film, and I thought would be a perfect chance to show Dean & Cas in this universe. I think it's my first time doing a complete "creature!Cas" as well, so I spent quite a while figuring out & sketching how I wanted to combine the creature from the movie with Cas's most recognizable features. (I also wanted to play up/enhance the green/blue of the original image as it's so iconic for Dean & Cas, and then later to carry through elements of those colors in the additional art I created.)
The banner/title art is also very closely based off one of TSOW's movie posters, though I wanted to give Cas some wing-like fins ("angel fish" vibes, anyone? Heh heh.) This was not an easy piece to do, but in the end I got it pretty close to how I'd envisioned it. Have a close up!
Tumblr media
When I started talking to @entropic-saudade about their ideas and reading story notes I got even more hyped up. I knew I wanted to do some art of the other characters featured in the fic, especially some I haven't had the chance to draw or paint before. I really enjoyed Eileen's relationship with Dean in the story, where she parallels Zelda's role in the movie, so again I wanted to closely recreate one of the stills from the movie for Eileen's entrance scene:
Tumblr media
And having a chance to finally do art featuring Rufus was something I couldn't resist! This one wasn't so much a direct movie scene recreation, although I tried to combine elements of Giles' apartment with what you might find in Bobby's house in SPN.
Tumblr media
I hope you all go run and read the story now! >> Read "Let Hands Do What Lips Do" at AO3 <<

buddie & henren ∘˚˳° 911 fox + dying parallels
[Image Description:
6 gifs alternating between two different scenes in two different episodes of 9-1-1. The left side of the gif set is of Henrietta “Hen” Wilson and Karen Wilson from season 6 episode 6. On the right side of the set, the contents are of Evan “Buck” Buckley and Eddie Diaz from season 6 episode 11.
Gif 1: The camera starts with a shot of the emergency entrance to the First Presbyterian Hospital, the lights from the ambulance reflecting off of the wall periodically. Doctors and nurses pour out of the entrance, running towards the reversed ambulance. The camera tilts downwards, showing the top of the ambulance as firefighters rush to open its doors.
Gif 2: The camera starts almost the exact same way; the emergency entrance being the first thing you see (at the same hospital), though its rainy and dark, making the emergency lights illuminate the entire area. A nurse rushes out of the doors towards the emergency vehicle, and the camera, like before, tilts downward to show the top edge of the ambulance as firefighters rush to open its doors.
Gif 3: Karen gets wheeled out of the ambulance on a gurney, an oxygen mask on her face, the camera view from above. It then changes to a shot from the direction of the loading bay doors, showing her getting rushed inside.
Gif 4: From the inside of the ambulance, we see Buck get wheeled out on a stretcher, Hen bagging him as Chimney does chest compressions. The shot changes to a birds-eye-view once more, Hen switching over the bagging to Bobby, and Chimney switching the CPR to Eddie.
Gif 5: In the back of the ambulance (before they get to the hospital - sorry, I had to gif it this way so the parallels were more obvious) Hen does compressions on her wife, trying to get her heart back into sinus rhythm. Bobby and Chimney continue to work on Karen in their own ways; Bobby trying to pump air into her lungs, and Chimney adding medication to her IV line.
Gif 6: As Buck gets run inside the ER, Eddie continues compressions on him, trying to get VTACH so they can shock him. Chimney jumps out of the ambulance and keeps his hand on Eddie’s back to help assist the gurney in the right place, Bobby bags Buck and pushes the gurney with his free hand, and Hen, goes to take over for Bobby.

The most beautiful Kaya Scodelario looked in "The Gentlemen". And the overall scene is something that can actually be so personal. Him seeking her out. Like ending episode 6 thinking mom and dad (mum and dad) are going to war with each other...and then this...and then still the last two episodes being a roller coaster of whether or not they are going to be the literal death of one another. I have never had so much Good Stress from a ship that was Bad Stress when I was actually going through it. I aged and greyed so much through parts of this show, my poor heart.
To me, they have this low-key Bruce Wayne x Selina Kyle dynamic (sooooo, Bobby Glass would be Carmine Falcone? I can work with that), which, given how BatCat is one of my lifelong OTPs, I am sure subconsciously pulled me in. Like posh boy that can get down and dirty (so his ski mask era would be his Batman era 😅😂 "We're not criminals, Freddy"), however much he sees himself holding a higher moral ground over the underworld he must move through. And working-class girl, street smarts, that can no less look "elegant and stylish" and navigate the upper echelons; but at the end of the day is who she is and matter-of-factly💋💋💋💋a career criminal. (Kaya honestly even works as a face claim for Selina though her eyes may be closer to blue than green. I mean, the Gunnverse has to cast a Catwoman eventually, depending on the age range of their Batman... I will just leave this here for you for free, James.)
And then Princess Roseanne, the Countess of Tournai, would be Talia Al-Ghul especially when Susie lets slip some jealous vibes towards her (made me think of Anne Hathaway's snark about Marion Cotillard in the last Nolanverse film...the characters, not the actresses). Though ultimately I do see Eddie and Princess Roseanne as Just Friends and no conflict in that direction unless further miscommunication. (So much Misunderstanding Drama in this series and between OTP. When a good romantic comedy is not a romantic comedy; or even entirely a comedy.)
But really it comes down to their having such an *easy partnership*, naturally yielding to one another when it comes to it. The way Susie has her way about things -- most notably when she invites herself to meet Stanley Johnston -- and Eddie smoothly submits to her without in any way seeming whipped. Like their actions are always in agreement, even when their words are not. Those two are more married than most married folks I have seen on screen. Should have blacked out in Nevada than on the estate.
(Also, gotta love how she has him saved in her phone as "The Duke". Like forget Bridgerton...I would watch an entire season of TheoKaya going at each other in, Bridgerton ways. As it stands with this though, I could see how the greater artistic choice might be to just make this a stand-alone, but I would be greedy for any subsequent season. This is already technically an expansion on a film -- that I have yet to see -- so Guy Ritchie does not mind a revisit. I could use any more of these 2 families who fully drive the story of this world.)

If you’re still doing the prompts, could I ask for 22? in a rush of adrenaline for Buddie?
thank you, and sorry it took so long! :D
-
For one wild instant after Eddie grabs him—bruising, frantic, the world all still too loud and too fast and too suddenly bright as the building comes down behind them, scattering pulverized concrete in their wake—Buck genuinely thinks that he's about to get punched.
Eddie would never. Eddie would never. But he's holding Buck's arm tight enough to hurt, and there's blood on his face and his eyes are wild as he yanks them both across the street in a dozen stumbling steps and shoves Buck against the side of the engine, and there really aren't a lot of other explanations for what the hell is happening right now.
"Hey, listen," Buck says, breathless. His voice comes out croaking and raw; he breathed in smoke back there. They both did. Him more than Eddie, after that last stairwell came down, cutting him off from the entrance for a few disorienting, gut-churning minutes before he stumbled out a side entrance and into Eddie and Bobby's arms. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, okay."
"Shut up," Eddie snaps, loosening his grip on Buck's arm. His eyes are red. His voice is hoarse, too. Buck remembers him screaming his name through the smoke-roiled darkness, an instant before the stairs came down. "Shut up."
"Okay, okay," Buck says, and lets his hands drop. Then lifts them again, thumping his palms against Eddie's shoulders and letting them linger there. Even through his turnouts, Buck can feel him shaking. "Eddie, hey. Come on. I'm okay. Barely even bruised."
"Just—" Eddie bites off the end of the word, shakes his head, then shoves at Buck's shoulders again, moving closer. And then his hands are on Buck's cheeks, dragging him down, and his mouth is hot, and—oh. Oh.
Eddie tastes like smoke; they both do. His cheeks are rough and grimy; there's a sharp sting where Buck must have split or bitten his lower lip. It's not a good kiss, not really, except for how it might actually be the best kiss he's ever had.
It lasts just barely long enough for Buck to start kissing back, and then Eddie is retreating. His hands are still on Buck's cheeks. Buck makes a noise of protest and chases his mouth, and Eddie kisses him again, softer. Then he pulls away again. Buck stares at him, and he stares back, and for a moment the entire world feels very distant.
Then there are footsteps on the pavement behind him and a deep, deep sigh, and reality percolates back in: specifically, the reality that they still are very much at an active scene.
Eddie winces slightly, lets go of Buck, takes a step back, and turns.
"Hey, Cap," he says, scrubbing a hand over the back of his neck.
"Hi," Bobby says patiently. Behind him, the 136 has their ladder up; he can see someone—probably Stover—controlling the hose to put out the last of the burn. Beyond that, Hen and Chim are checking over the last handful of security staff that Bobby and Eddie must have escorted out while Buck was trying not to die in a ceiling collapse. None of it seems especially dire anymore.
Other than the fact that Bobby is here, and definitely saw… all of that.
"Uh, hi, Bobby," Buck says, with what is probably not nearly as winning a smile as he's trying for.
"You know, Buck, I'm pretty sure I have the section in our handbook on maintaining professionalism on scenes still bookmarked from when you were a probie," Bobby says in tones of deep exasperation. His mouth is twitching, though.
"That's on me, Cap," Eddie says solemnly.
"Hey, no, I was definitely—"
Bobby gestures sharply, and Buck shuts up.
"You have two minutes," he says, "and then I expect you both to go get yourselves checked out. And we're going to talk about this back at the station. Understood?"
Eddie straightens his shoulders like he's still in Basic. He used to do that all the time; now it's only when he thinks he might be in serious trouble. "Understood."
"So, uh, so how much trouble are we actually in?" Buck blurts.
"I said we'll discuss it at the station, Buck," Bobby repeats dryly, but he's definitely laughing at them now. "One minute. Then go let Hen check you over, or you really will be in trouble. And kid? I'm very glad you're okay."
He pointedly turns his back and walks away, so Buck doesn't protest that that was more like fifteen seconds than a whole minute. He's got Eddie to focus on instead: his smoke-stained face, soft brown eyes, the sheepish, lovely mouth that Buck was just kissing.
"Sorry," Eddie says, after a moment. "I didn't actually plan to do that."
"Yeah, well. Been a long time coming, right?"
He worries, in the instant after he's said it, that he's got this all wrong. That this—whatever it is—was just adrenaline for Eddie, just relief, just some weird, fleeting impulse and nothing more.
But Eddie laughs, ducking his head, rubbing a hand over the back of his neck. When he looks back at Buck, his eyes are bright. He's blushing, visible even under the soot.
"Yeah," he says. "Yeah, it really has."

My Commentary on Rob and Rich Reviewing (4x14) Sex and Violence
I was listening to the latest Supernatural Then and Now Podcast (The Siren Episode) and I had to stop it after the Rob and Rich review to write down my thoughts because it annoyed me so much.
The guys both thought the episode was okay, but a bunch of things “bumped” for them. This is fine, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion about an episode, but some of the things that “bumped” for them “bump” for me.
Tumblr media
My thoughts under the cut …
Bump # 1 - The Siren turning out to be a man
So, both Rs had an issue with the siren being a man since the lore showed them as women, and I think, because in real mythology they are women. Though they conceded that the a male siren could be a thing too, it seemed to really bother them that the siren ended up not being about a sexual connection with the brothers (though Rich saw the flask sharing scene as flirtatious … because no guys have ever shared a flask, including, Dean and Bobby).
I’m sorry, but the siren targeting the brothers, and using a version of an ideal brother to get to Dean isn’t a plot hole or a “stretch” or something, it’s an interesting choice and it’s exactly the point of the episode. While many men are vulnerable to a pretty woman who is into them, Dean just wants Sam. He wants his relationship with Sam to be better. In particular, he’s so worried about Sam and insecure in their bond that he wants a Sam who likes what he likes but, more importantly, one who listens to him and doesn’t hide things from him. And I know I’ve written about this before on a previous post, but Dean doesn’t NEED the siren to be a hot girl; he can find one of those easily. He needs a Sam he can trust. That’s the whole point. The show is drawing the comparison between sexual intimacy/romantic companionship (usually one of the most desired things in literature/media) to the brothers relationship to show how much brotherhood matters to Dean in particular (in this case).
The way the male siren actor portrays its interest in the brothers, to me, is very much like it’s intrigued and excited that it found a high even better than the sexual desire that it usually feeds off of. When the siren feels how desperate Dean is for the bond with Sam to be fixed, it finds him more interesting than it’s usual target. Dean’s longing for Sam (not sexual) is even stronger than the sexual desire or romantic companionship that the siren usually feeds off of, so much so that the siren changes its entire MO to go after the brothers.
Bump # 2 - The Doctor sleeping with Sam (when she isn’t the siren) is weird
So, the Rs disagreed on the “bumpiness” of this one. Rob thought it was weird that the doctor would just decide to sleep with Sam (at work), while it didn’t bother Rich because … Jared Padalecki. Sound argument (in this case), Rich.
Still, the doctor is a little unusual, and her behaviour is clearly intended to be a misdirect, but the show does a good enough job of suggesting she had a bad breakup (or worse) and is now just sort of living in the moment, so her behaviour doesn’t bother me. Also, Sam is hot.
What is stranger than the doctor’s behaviour, for the audience who knows him, is Sam having sex with her I that moment. Not only that, but Sam is very chill when she’s hitting on him, where in the past, Sam has often been a little shy or awkward with women that he’s been attracted to or interested in. So no, this is not Sam’s usual MO to sleep with the doctor, especially when we know he and Ruby are or were also sleeping together. Sam is not acting entirely like his usual self. And he hasn’t been acting entirely like himself for a while now.
Bump # 3 - The Siren telling the boys to fight each other and saying the winner can “be with” him
I don’t know why they had an issue with this. The siren literally explains that it loves the rush of having people willing to do anything for it, even kill people they love. What the siren tells the brothers doesn’t matter because it’s not like it’s really planning to have a relationship with the brother who wins the fight. And the boys are already infected at this point, so it’s just giving them incentive to fight. It’s not sticky about the sexual-ness of people’s need for the siren, it’s about the desperation they have to be with it (in whatever way).
Bump #4 - Sam dismissing the Doctor after sleeping with her.
The guys were both bothered by Sam not bothering to say goodbye to the doctor, and they mentioned that it seemed sort of old-school (womanizing?). Rob said that Sam dismissing her was more like something Dean would do than Sam. I know that I already said this, but this is the whole point. Sam hasn’t been acting like his old self. This isn’t an accidental writing mistake, where the writer accidentally wrote Sam more like Dean. Sam is different now.
It also isn’t like Sam to call Dean weak, or ridicule him for being messed up from his experience in hell. Season 2 Sam would never, and Season 3 Sam wouldn’t either. Season 4 Sam has changed from the trauma of losing Dean, drinking demon blood, and having Ruby in his ear.
Also, to play devils advocate on myself, Sam has actually left towns before without saying goodbye to the girl he had a connection with, maybe not after sleeping with her, but it’s not wholly out of character for him to leave without saying goodbye (I’m not criticizing him for this). Also, I really don’t think that doctor was looking for anything more from Sam beyond hooking up in her office, so this doesn’t bother me much.
Final thoughts
Anyway, I’m not arguing that everyone has to love every episode, or even like all the ones that I do. I’m not even arguing that people need to like Sex and Violence because it really can be a little uncomfortable, and there is a bit of a sexual undercurrent to it all, even though that’s not the sirens intention with the brother. That’s also not exactly new on Supernatural. However, it’s weird to me that so many of the things that “bumped” for Rob and Rich seem to me like very deliberate choices by the writers, not careless mistakes or pointlessly out of character. This episode reveals a lot about where Sam and Dean are at this point in the season, both individually and in their relationship.
Granted, I have the benefit of watching the episode and knowing where it’s all leading, but this is what sort of bothers me about hearing people discuss the show who are doing it for a purpose and are probably only half-invested in the story. They miss things that seem like they should be really clear. Also, it’s funny when they find things uncomfortably sexual in relation to Sam and Dean (they didn’t outright say that, but I think it was implied in what they said) and act like it’s a surprise or out of place. Again, this isn’t new. They obviously listened to too many hellers if they didn’t realize that Sam and Dean are weirdly close at times or that the show makes some pretty blatant parallels between them and couples or makes quasi-incestuous connections between Sam and Dean.
I have nothing else to add here. This was mostly just a rant, but feel free to add your two cents if you made it this far.

I'm almost through season 6 of the queer EMT show and I have a couple of thoughts I really need to get off my chest.
Before I dive in I want to share an observation. It feels like there are two tiers of main ensemble cast and I'm basing this on the character development of each of them. Tier 1 feels like its Bobby, Buck and Maddie who have gone through the most dramatic character arcs, while tier 2 is Athena, Hen, and Eddie. I can't decide which group Chim is in tbh and this is hardly scientific so...
The point of all that is that everything else I'm going to say is based off my observation that Buck is more fleshed out and developed as a character than Eddie.
So now to the point!
First, Buck absolutely adores Eddie. Like is definitely 100% in love with the man. I'm only on episode 14 of season 6 so I haven't even gotten to the onscreen bi realization or the coming out scene outside of gifs on this here hell site. But currently, the way Buck looks at Eddie is so fucking heart eyed its ridiculous.
The hysteria when Eddie is in danger - the screaming at the mudslide, the absolute hard reboot at the shooting? Buck is completely beside himself at the idea of losing Eddie. He literally cries on Christopher's shoulder at the thought of losing him and Chris losing his dad.
This is not standard BFF behavior, I'm sorry.
And don't even get me started on the couch metaphor...I have too much to say about that to include it here.
But what I do want to talk about is the coma episode. Because I feel like that episode was a purposeful "no-homo" episode and here's why:
Buck is in an alternate universe and runs to Hen and Chim, sees Maddie and Bobby. But Eddie is literally just referenced once as "the angry guy" and his contribution to the entire episode is to bring Christopher to see Buck while hes unconscious. Which is weird!
Yes, Eddie rescued Buck and yes he tells the medical team to do better than their best, but compared to Buck literally hauling Eddie's limp body into an ambulance? It's a pretty vanilla response.
And then he doesn't show up in alternate Bucks reality. This is, i believe, one part writers trying to no homo the thing and one part writers implying that Eddie and Chris are a replacement for Bucks "real family" which undermines the entire guardian arc in a very weird way. So it definitely seems, during s6 at least, that Buddie was flat out not happening (again...I'm on e14 only).
So if Buck is in love with Eddie through narrative and acting choices (based on recent PR from Oliver S implying hes lowkey played Buck queer) where is Eddie at? What gives?
I'll tell you what gives.
Eddie is the most repressed motherfucker on the planet. Eddie goes to a call involving a vibrator getting stuck in a woman and he barely clocks that's what's happening.
This man has only had missionary sex for the purpose of baby making and it shows. I have definitely HC'd that Eddie is demi but he's also just locked down so tight. No wonder he spent a whole season beating the crap out of random strangers in illegal fights!
So, what's my point?
My POINT is this. Eddie may be queer underneath all that repression, but he has no idea. None. Zero. Zip. Eddie thinks he can't find a wife and mother for Christopher because he's BROKEN, not because he's maybe just not that into women.
And yes, Buck coming out might give him a clue. Tommy being gay might show him something he hasn't really seen in terms of what a gay man looks like. But that Catholic guilt ridden man has a LONG way to go before he will confess to the fact that he wifed up his bisexual BFF because of non-platonic reasons.
We'll see how the story pans out. But anyone who thinks season 7 is going to end in a Buddie romance is likely incredibly wrong. I mean I haven't seen the episodes yet. So give me a week. But it seems unlikely. Eddie's character is in a very different place than Buck.
Doesn't mean these two don't live together in marital bliss rent free in my head though 😜

Buddie 609 meta
Tumblr media
This ep gave us our battlefield boyfriends in full swing again, and I love that for us! First off, there’s the way they showed up on the scene. Bobby steps in with Buck on one side and Eddie on the other. It looks like they’ve just arrived, but Chim and Hen already inspecting the hand lets us know that nope, they chose to split like that, which means that when Bobby turns around to start the search for the owner of the hand, we get a shot of Buck and Eddie together, following him. Then we also have them specifically exchanging exasperated looks while going door to door, as well as when listening to a dumb teenager explaining why he didn’t call 911, and a shot of them together reporting back to Bobby, even though we know the whole team was a part of the search and standing there together.
Tumblr media
Then there’s the way Buck announces “Not it!” when it’s clear someone’s going to have to run after that teenager. Even though, once again, the entire 118′s there, and without another word being spoken, Eddie knows right away that this means he’s it, and starts giving chase. They’re literally their own team within the greater group. Which gets reinforced during the wildfire call, when we see Buck and Eddie being paired up and moving together like a well oiled machine, plus when they’re all on the roof, and it’s clear who the empty chair next to Eddie has been for, not to mention how he passes on the mug once Buck takes his seat. Such a good husband!
Tumblr media
~~ But speaking of the Buddie connection and the way they’re each other’s life partners, I had to laugh out loud at the way the conference call went down. Buck knows Chim is awake from the messages about the house, so he calls his brother-in-law. Hen’s already on the line. Buck doesn’t know whether Eddie’s awake. We will later hear him hesitate about calling Bobby by wondering whether their captain is asleep or not. But since Chim and Hen are there, who cares if Buck’s call will wake Eddie up? He NEEDS to share his news, which means he NEEDS to have Eddie there. Hen was right when talking to Karen about this couple dynamic back in 317, Buck invites Eddie. Always. ~~
Tumblr media
I have to admit, I found it so weird that Hen was talking to Eddie about Denny’s questions regarding his bio mom, but not to Buck. He’s the most obvious one, given how he talked to her about his doubts regarding the sperm donation in 604. He’s also the one who really needs to hear this and understand what it means, having a bio kid that you don’t end up raising, how it’s not this thing that ever goes away, nor is the child your own. It’s this in-between space that Buck is clearly having a hard time with. He’s not properly had a talk with Eddie about it, at least not on screen, which is already telling. Some of the most meaningful insights Buddie have had on the show came from talking to each other. Based on Eddie’s reaction to Buck’s news in this ep (his facial expression, saying it feels weird to congratulate Buck on this news), we can tell Eddie doesn’t seem to approve. It reminds me a bit of some of his reactions to Taylor. He didn’t tell Buck explicitly, “You shouldn’t be dating this woman,” he mostly didn’t comment at all or indicated through non-verbal cues that he does not approve. So there’s a pattern here of how Buddie conduct themselves when Buck is clearly doing something that’s not good for him, but neither one of them acknowledges it out loud.
Tumblr media
Add to all of this the way Buck broke the news to his friends (no, sweetheart, you’re not about to be a dad) and that firefighter onesie he got for the baby (oh, hon! You’re all heart! And you misunderstood the assignment), and he’s clearly setting himself up for regret in 6b. I just hope we get to see Eddie being there to help mend him, like Buck was there for him in 5b. ~~
Tumblr media
The naked lady in the car… So I have to admit I initially went back and forth on whether it was meaningful that the only ones to cover their eyes were Buck and Eddie. I mean, technically, they’re also the only two single characters, so it’s maybe a bit expected on the part of the show, to signal beyond doubt to the viewers that these guys are not creeps. Bobby and Chim aren’t just excused by being married, they also have practical things they are doing in that situation, with Bobby being the captain, assessing what’s going on and giving orders, while Chim is physically checking up on her state. But then we have Hen rushing in.
Tumblr media
Hen, who is canonically attracted to women, and who runs into this when the naked lady is outside the car, just like Buck did. While his immediate reaction (much like Eddie) was to look away AND hold up a hand to hide the sight, Hen doesn’t do that (despite getting much closer to the naked lady). Also, at that point, Bobby and Chim are no longer being useful in any way, but they still don’t dramatically cover or avert their eyes. And married or not, they are men who canonically are attracted to women, like Hen, meaning it would have been appropriate for them to cover their eyes at some point as well. So yes, I think we get to snicker a little bit about how uninterested in naked women these choices make Buddie appear… It’s only made more hilarious by that little reaction Eddie has to Buck’s question. First, it’s probably significant that our former womanizer clearly didn’t ask this in order to get any salacious details, he’s just being a moron. Second, there’s a naked lady around, and still the focus of Eddie’s attention is Buck being a dumbass (not to mention how he will later, on the roof, tease Buck about preferring the car to drive into the building announced). I love one himbo and his exasperated husband. ~~

There’s something about the theme of lack of sleep in this ep. It’s of course a clear parallel to Eddie not being able to sleep in 511, reminding us that this is about more than just strange winds momentarily blowing through the city. When Hen is talking about Denny’s questions to Eddie, Buck’s absence is explained by him being the only one able to sleep, but after the incident where the naked lady drives into the fire station, he can’t either.

Yet, by the end of the ep, they’re all asleep. All, but Bobby. His shot at the start of the ep actually represents where he’s at the end of it. I do love how the order of the team being shot in their sleep goes from Eddie, to Buck, then to the married couples.

But it’s Bobby’s opening narrative which frames the whole theme of people sleeping peacefully, without realizing what’s in store for them, how close they actually are to the edge. “A reckoning may be upon us.” We’re aware this is true for Henren who don’t know what their child is up to, we’re aware of this for Buck who’s clearly already more emotionally invested in Connor and Kameron’s kid than he should be, we can deduce there’s something in store for the others as well. Season 6b is going to be a wind that is going to blow through this peaceful slumber and bring on the drama. Are you ready? Hold tight!
