The Bangtan Gal Chapter 36- My Ideal Type
Chapter Summary: Throwback chapter for Episode 95 of After School Club while they promoted Danger, Jennie shows off her guitar skills, reveals fun facts such as her ideal type, first kiss and the high expectations & insecurities with her anticipated DJ skills.

With Eric Nam and Jimin as the MCs for this episode of After School Club, they happily announce BTS to come on stage. The members of BTS were all in their Danger outfits, promoting their new album Dark & Wild.
"Aye! What up! What up!" Jen happily greeted with a mic in her hand. Suga started to lay on the ground, posing coolly while Jimin kneeled next to him. "And let the goofiness begin." She laughed at the members lying around the set. She decided to sit with Jimin on the yellow box afterwards, while the rest of the members lay around the other seats.
"Okay, so they're lying around." Eric watched them.
"Okay, I think BTS is the first group who has...okay and now they sat on the MC chairs." The female Jimin looks around.
"What is going on?" Eric laughed. After they finally regrouped, BTS stood with the MCs. "We finally have Bangtan here in the studio. Nice to see you guys."
"2! 3! Bangtan! Hello, we are Bangtan Boys!"
"Woo! Yes, we have them here and it's really, really great to see you guys again." Eric says as Rap Monster recalls being on the show around 8 times. He discussed that it's been around three months since their last appearance and he's the second person to be on ASC the most and hopes to make the show more enjoyable.
"We have the energetic, charismatic, talented BTS here, in the studio. Please tweet us your requests for BTS with the hashtag, ASC, pretty please!" Eric announced.
"And BTS will be reading your names and doing your requests so tweet us now." Jimin added.
After a commercial break, BTS was seated with the MCs. Jen sat behind V, next to Jin. "Please introduce yourselves." Jimin gestured.
The camera panned to Taehyung. "YO! V!" He screamed and threw up a peace sign. "HI!" He grinned, waving the peace sign. Jennie let out a soft laugh at Jimin and Eric Nam's reaction because of how shocked they were.
"Ah, that scared me." Eric laughed, still startled.
"RAP MONSTER!" Rapmon shouted.
"Okay." The female Jimin chuckled.
"Chim! Chim! Hello!" Jimin introduced himself.
"SUGA!" He shouted.
"I'm your hope! I'm engine! J-Hope!"
After Jungkook and Jin introduced themselves in Korean, the camera panned to Jennie. "Aye~! It's your girl Jennie!" She waved and blew a kiss to the camera with both hands.
"They're all hyper today." Jimin applauded. "And I'm kinda getting small, right now."
"It's okay. Hey, you know you have a song with his name in it." Eric pointed out, glancing at Suga.
"Give me some Suga~" The MCs started singing and dancing in their seats.
"Suga! Suga!" The rest of the members started to sing and dance in their seats.
"Anyways, we have people that have been waiting for hours." Eric pointed at the screens to a variety of BTS fans with posters, and other merch.
Then he goes on to say that there are two Park Jimins. The one in BTS and the MC that sat next to him.
"I'm younger than him though, so I'm the second Park Jimin." The female Jimin informed.
"Shall we switch seats?" Jimin suggested as everyone let out a laugh.
"As we mentioned in our opening, BTS has been on the show the most often. Most frequent out of all our guests, so I'm sure they feel a little more comfortable and its more family like. How do you guys feel?" Eric asked.
"Of course, it's like family like, I see you like more often than my mom." Rapmon answered with a smile. Afterward, the members explained what they've been doing abroad from going to Germany, to America for a reality show.
"Did you learn any new English?" Eric questioned as Jen laughed at the random English words the members would shout out.
"What's up?"
"What's poppin'?"
"Turn up!"
"Church!"
"All right well we have a lot of fans that's excited to see you guys here on today's show, so we're gonna go straight into our pretty please corner." Eric announced as he and Jimin headed to the screen to check out the tweets.
The first tweet was from DyoQueennie, tweeting, 'Hi BTS I'm Queennie from BTS. I would like V to sing a song for me. I love you ❤.'
"Queennie, hello!" V waved and started to sing briefly, winking and calling her baby.
The next tweet was from piquantstyles. 'Can Jungkook sing Haruman to me and say "I love you, Esmeralda.'
After Jungkook sang a snippet of Just One Day, the members and MCs praised him for his angelic, smooth voice.
The next tweet was, 'Jennie, who is the idol you want to meet the most?'
"AILEE!" She shouted loud and proud, throwing her arms up in the air.
"Fangirl!" Suga teased
"I love her. She's so dynamic. If I could meet her, collab with her, or even be on the same stage as her, I would die. Like if I meet her, I will probably shout, 'This is not a drill! I am with Ailee!' Man, my life would be complete."
'ERIC. DANCE BATTLE WITH JIN' Was the next tweet read by the MCs.
"WOOOOOOOWWWWW!" The members shout, turning to Jin. Some of the members were shouting, "Jin! Jin!" while gesturing for him to dance.
"Oh, I have GOT to see this." Jen got comfortable in her seat.
Eric and Jin dance to Girl's Day's Darling as the MC Jimin and Jennie cringed. "Oh, I'm so embarrassed." The MC, Jimin looked on. Afterward, they have J-Hope and Jimin dance to Sistar's Touch My Body. "Wow!"
"Let Jennie dance! She's our guy group dance expert." Jin called her out.
"Yeah, let's let Jennie dance." Eric beckoned for her to come over.
"Jennie! Jennie, Jennie, Jennie, Jennie~!" The rest of the BTS members sing and chant while clapping their hands, encouraging her.
"Hahah, all right, all right." She got up from her seat and walked to the front of the studio. "Any requests?"
"Let's just put on a random song," Eric replied as Got7's Girls Girls Girls blared out. "Are you familiar with this?"
"I got you." She gave him a thumbs up, getting in position as the instrumental continued to play. But as soon as JB started to sing, she rocked back and forth, powerfully, smoothly dancing the choreography.
After she finished, she was applauded and praised for her dance skills.
"My question is, where does she have the time to learn these dances!?" J-Hope exclaimed.
"That's my secret." She grinned.
While watching her dance, fans tweet:
'My weave has been snatched!!'
'Stop-sleeping-on-Jennie!'
'DAMN! Go, girl!'
'Did she just smirk at the camera!? Rude!! Stop killing me!'
'Ahhhhh I love her!!'
Back to the questions, Jen was asked another question with the tweet saying, 'Jennie! You are the only BTS member who has yet to dye their hair! When are you going to dye it?'
"Hahah, I love this question. Everyone asks me this. My hair will be dyed when you least expect it. Patience is a virtue. I already know the color, just not sure what the style is. But it won't be anytime soon, unfortunately. But it will be worth the wait." She reassured the fans.
As they answer more tweets, Jen is asked another question with the tweet saying, 'Jennie! When are you going to show us your DJ skills?'
"Ah...I get so shy about it. I dunno...Suga has been asking me almost every day to show him me DJing in front of him instead of a little snippet of what I've played around with. He told me that he might want me to help make music for BTS or maybe use it for a concert, but we'll see. I just get so insecure about my DJ skills. Everyone keeps asking and then the high expectations. I'll admit I'm a little scared to show it off to the public. I'm not gonna say I'm not good enough but I'll just say that I don't feel like my skills are that level for me to showcase my potential for it. So, I'm still practicing alone, trying to keep away from Suga because he always tries to catch me practicing. One day I'll show my skills. We'll have to wait maybe a few years before I'm ready. Just like with the rapping which he's currently teaching me."
After a few more tweets, they all gather back in their seats for the pretty please requests as they reveal the winner's tweet for a special prize.
"Jennie, Rapmon do one of you want to read it?" Eric gestured as the two members glanced and smiled.
"I can do it," Jen spoke up as Rapmon nodded in response. "Okay, this tweet is from Sara Sarah. Say hi to Canadian A.R.M.Ys and please come here soon. Love you!" She read. "Aw, so sweet. What's up Canadian ARMYs!?" She waved.
"What's up!" Rapmon spoke up. "I like Toronto, I like Vancouver. I like everyone in Canada. I like the nature, I like the mountains, so I love you."
"He's just rapping." Eric exclaimed while the MC Jimin tried to mimic Rapmon's wording. "But his is so much cooler."
"O-kay." Jimin looked back down at her cards.
"I totally will make sure to try to make a trip up to Canada. I have yet to see the sights and I absolutely want to enjoy all the beautiful attractions there. So, shout out to all the Canadian ARMYs. You'll always have a special place in my heart." Jen eagerly said, making a heart with her hands.
"So, we gotta talk a little bit, it's been a busy few months for Bangtan. They've been overseas for a long time and they've been preparing for their new album that finally dropped. How's that been? How's that been going for you guys? You guys have been super busy. You guys doing okay?" Eric questioned the members.
"Ah...not okay." Rapmon let out a low chuckle. "It was busy but I think being busy is the best thing because I think it's better than not being busy. Having no schedule, ASC doesn't call us." He playfully rambled on.
"Oh really?" Jimin asked while Eric let out a laugh
"We rest, we've been getting fat." Rapmon went on.
"So, I've heard that your practice videos are a really big hit right now." Jimin went on and started doing exaggerated movements with Eric.
Once she stopped, Eric kept going and she tried to stop by placing a hand on his arm. His actions caused the members to laugh once again.
"So, this is BTS' first full length, so we want to ask what it means to BTS," Eric stated.
"It's our first official album and compared to our other singles and mini albums that was simply a warm up. This 14-track album is amazing." Suga explained.
"What's your personal favorite song?" Jimin asked.
As Suga said Let Me Know is his favorite since he produced it and it's different from other BTS songs because of the emotion, he decided to show everyone the high note.
"Everyone you may want to plug your ears." Eric joked.
"GIRL LET ME KNOOOOOOWWWWWW~" Suga suddenly sang and fell off his seat.
Eyebrows raised and jaw dropped, Jen stared at Suga in disbelief. "Oh hell no." She exclaimed while Eric approached Suga to ask if he was okay, while he continued to exaggerate the high note.
Afterward, Jimin stated that Danger is his favorite song. Rapmon said 24/7 Heaven is his favorite song, demonstrating singing the song.
"Okay, I'm a rapper, but I just did some melodies on that song." He explained, preparing to sing. "All night girl. I think about you all night girl. naeirimyeon geudael boge dwae. And I don't know what to say."
"GIRL LET ME KNNNNOOOOWWWWWW~" Suga overdramatically sang in a high pitched voice, again.
"Oh, mah gosh! Suga!" Jen laughed with the rest of the members.
V, of course, said that Cypher:Killer was his favorite as he eagerly performed it for the show.
"I ne beonjjae aelbeom jeonggyuui gwanjeom!"
"Cypher!" All the members shout, dancing around in their seats, getting hyped.
"I teuraegi naomyeon Haterdeul wanjeon!"
"Amjeon!"
As V went on, Jen hyped him up even more by shouting, "AYE! AYE! OKAY! OKAY! UH! UH! KILL EM! KILL EM!"
After settling down, it was finally Jen's turn to reveal her favorite song. "Okay, my favorite is War of Hormone because this song is very different for me. It challenged me because it made me portray a sexy persona for this song. I was so reluctant to even do it, honestly because I get embarrassed with sexy personas. I'm not used to it, it's not my favorite concept but I'll do it if you want me to. It made me try a new persona and I think it went well with my voice."
Jin's favorite song is please turn off your phone, while Jungkook's song is Rain and J-Hope's is Hip Hop Lover. Next up was a pop quiz, the question was how many times did the scene of Jimin hitting the sandbag appear in the music video? In the meantime, they reveal the fans for the Hangout session.
They reveal the first person, Anja from Serbia. She explained she went to their showcase and was on the plane for around 24 hours to Berlin, enthused that BTS is amazing, while the members and MCs were in awe.
"Dedication. Fans are amazing." Jen smiled.
Anja showed some of her drawings, mostly of Rap Monster while Jin asked where were the rest of the members. Her request was to see V dance the choreography for Danger. Then Eric requested for all the members to dance.
Next was Kasey from the U.K. She said that she went with her best friend to Berlin to see BTS and it was amazing. She thanked BTS because seeing them so passionate and hard working and talented inspired her to work for her dreams. After Rapmon translated, the members were touched by her kind words and her request was for Jimin and J-Hope to have a dance battle.
Next was a girl from America, whose name was Taylor. "Jennie! Jennie, you are my favorite member, and you inspire me to achieve my dreams, no matter where I go. I love you so much! You slay my life!"
"Aye! Thanks, girl! I love you, too!" Jen grinned happily. "It's fans like you who keep me going. Thank you for always being so supportive."
"Of course! So, my question for you is, what are your struggles while performing here and what do you want to improve?"
"Okay, I cannot for the life of me dance cutely. I can't do cute dances. I'm more into the badass concepts and powerful dances. I'll try my best to work on that, though. I want my high notes to improve. I feel as though my voice isn't strong yet, so I'm also working on that with vocal lessons. But I also want to try to sing different genres of songs and see what my strengths and weaknesses are. So, to help with that, I want to start working on covers to post on the BTS SoundCloud near the end of 2014 when I have some free time from the promotion, so keep a lookout, for that."
"And what is your request?" Eric asked Taylor.
"So, since you said you want to start working on covers, can you sing a little bit of one of the songs you want to cover?" She requested with an eager smile.
"Yeah, of course!" Jen beamed and began to sing a snippet of Amerie's Why Don't We Fall in Love. "So many things I'm goin' through. So much that I wanna do. It startin' to become so clear to me. Tomorrow ain't really guaranteed. So many days I've thought of you. It's about time you knew the truth. Got to act quickly, you and I. We fall in love, so many reasons why."
"Oh, my gosh!! I cannot wait until the full version! That was so good! I love your voice!" Taylor started fangirling on camera, earning a shy giggle from Jennie. She thought she was cute for freaking out like that, as she thanked her, while the MCs and members of BTS praised her for the song.
"I could hear the love and passion in her voice. Is there someone special in your life?" Jimin asked her. "Is Jennie in love?"
"Hahah, not yet." Jen waved away their funny accusations.
"How long have you been practicing?"
"I haven't practiced yet but since this song is a throwback, I already know the lyrics. But once the promotions die down and I'm not working on anything, I'll be practicing and preparing to record the cover."
After revealing the winner of the pop quiz, they go back to hanging out with the fans. A fan from China appeared as she was greeted by the members and MCs.
"Jennie, I have seen these questions all over the internet for some time now and wanted to ask them, so I hope you won't get too shy about them. Us ARMYs would love to know what was your first kiss like."
"Oooohhhhhh." The MCs turned to Jen while she buried her face in her hands, laughing. As soon as Rapmon translated the questions, the rest of the members yelled uncontrollably and eagerly awaited her answer.
"Ah, my first kiss...it's a very interesting story might I add. Shocking and off guard but somewhat cute. Well, it all started with a box of pocky. Or pepero as it's called in Korea." She began to explain. She tried not to laugh at the focused stares the members were giving her.
"You kissed with Pocky?" The MC, Jimin asked. "Aw, that's cute. Were you playing the pocky game?"
"Yeah. Remember when we filmed Rookie King?" Jen turned to the guys as they laughed and remembered the wild memories. "I hope he doesn't mind me sharing this out to the public, I don't think he knows this either but Jungkook was actually my first kiss since you guys wanted to smash our heads together during the pocky game." She shook her head.
Jungkook felt his stomach drop when he heard Jen say his name and saw her point at him. Then when she gestured about smashing heads together and said Rookie King before that, he had figured out what she said in English, immediately looking down at his lap, shyly. His face began to warm up as he tried to fight the growing smile on his face.
"No way! So that's why you had your head down for so long." Rapmon remembered clearly, ignoring the members but Jungkook questioned what Jen had said.
"Wow!" Eric Nam said, pleasantly surprised as he had a smile on his face, thinking it was cute.
"Aw! That's adorable!" The female Jimin smiled sweetly as Rapmon translated the bombshell to the members.
"Whaaaaaaaaaaa~!" The members but Jungkook start to yell and freak out in their seats. Jen tried not to laugh as J-Hope started screaming, running around the studio with Jimin and Tae. Suga had fallen out of his chair yet again while Rapmon shook his head at the chaos.
"Jungkookie?! OUR JUNGKOOKIE!?" The male Jimin pointed Jungkook out, who still shyly had his head down. "What is going on!?"
"What!? WHAT!?" Jin shouted in mother mode.
"Oh dear, I didn't think it would cause so much commotion." Jen rubbed the back of her neck. She avoided turning around to see Jungkook's reaction.
She hoped he wasn't mad at her.
"Jungkook, what is your reaction to that?" Eric questioned, turning his attention to the Maknae.
Feeling bold from an unknown source of bravery, Jungkook looked up, speaking in English, "Not sorry.", causing the guys of BTS to laugh.
Widening her eyes, Jen turned around, meeting his stare, taken aback at his reaction. He smiled at her as she turned back around, feeling her face heat up.
So, he wasn't sorry for giving her, her first kiss? He wasn't mad?
"Do you regret the kiss? How was it?" The female Jimin asked, wanting all the details. Everyone has their full attention on Jennie.
"Regrets? Honestly, I don't have any but if I'm nitpicking...I just regret not being a good kisser for him, to make the kiss more enjoyable, even though it was unintentional. So, I'm sorry that my kiss was terrible and sloppy, haha. But all jokes aside, no, I don't regret it at all."
"She's very considerate." Eric Nam pointed out.
As Jennie turned around to look at Jungkook, she decided to translate her statement for him instead of Rapmon, as she smiled at him, apologetically.
'But you have nothing to apologize for.' Jungkook thought to himself.
Next was Ardina from Indonesia, using a hangout free pass. She explained that watching Jimin dance made her go to dance school, and she danced for them, wearing the Bulls Jersey that Jimin wore.
"Yassssss! Go girl!" Jen looked on. She had some moves, it was amazing, and the rest of the members were blown away by her performance.
"Adina, I think you're better than me." Rapmon smiled.
Next was Olga from Poland, who asked Suga where she got his inspiration for his songs. The MCs translated that everyday life inspires him. She says she's supported them since debut and loves their meaningful songs. Her request was to ask Rapmon what his favorite method of learning is because he's one of the smartest students in Korea.
"Actually, it was computers. Playing games and yeah." He answered, shooting up a thumbs up.
Fanny from Belgium was next to talk to the group. She announced that she was going to show a drum cover of Danger. "Hey! Jen and Fanny should collab. Jen plays the guitar and fanny plays the drums!" V pointed out.
"That'll be nice!" Jen agreed. As they watched her play a small portion of Danger for the group, the members were in awe at her performance. "That was sick!"
After saying goodbye to Fanny, Rapmon pointed out, "We actually caught Jennie playing a guitar version of Danger."
"Putting me on blast!" She teased.
"Oh, are you planning on making an acoustic version of Danger?" Eric asked
"You never know." Jen shrugged.
"Can we see a demonstration?" Jimin asked as Jen was handed an acoustic guitar.
"I wonder if this was planned. You magically just had a guitar waiting for me, huh?" She teased the MCs who laughed in response. Making sure it was tuned up, she prepared to play. "Chorus. Five, six, seven, eight!"
A loud, strong strumming sound was heard, sounding just like Danger as the members swayed and bobbed their heads along to the music.

"Woo! Great job!" Eric applauded with Jimin. "Is that a full song? The acoustic version? It sounds so good."
"Nah, I was just playing around," Jen answered, placing the guitar down.
"Playing around? That needs to be recorded!" Jimin demanded.
"That's what I'm saying." Rapmon chuckled. "We'll think of something."
"I wouldn't mind playing the guitar more for our songs. I'm down for acoustic versions or even electric. We'll see in the future." Jen reassured.

And the last person was a guy from the Philippines, who happily greeted BTS. "I've been waiting so patiently because I really wanted to speak with Jennie."
"Aw, thank you!" She smiled and placed a hand over her heart.
"I wanted to tell you how much I admire you in BTS. And I also wanted to say that you are my ideal type."
As soon as she heard him say ideal type, she pointed to herself, stunned at his statement. "M-me? Really?"
"She's really surprised, haha." Eric looked on.
"I love your personality, you're so down to earth. And you have a pretty smile. You and Jin are my favorite members. Now, there are some male ARMYs around and I wanted to ask this question for them and for myself. Jennie, what is your ideal type?"
As soon as the MCs translated, the members of BTS turned to Jen, awaiting her answer.
"First, I'm shocked that I am your ideal type, like wow. You're the first that I know of to call me that and I am touched, so thank you. That just made me really happy. Like honestly, I'm not used to that and I'd feel left out since I'm never described as someone's ideal type here. I recall myself as a singing and dancing potato." She joked.
"A very beautiful potato!" The guy countered with a genuine smile.
"Hahaha, he's charming." Eric laughed.
"Thank you." She smiled. "Now, I don't have a specific person as an ideal type, like with Rapmon, who likes girls with red converses, though I personally prefer Nikes. And with Jungkook head over heels for IU."
"But to answer your question, my ideal type..." She paused for a moment. "Well, some things I would like is someone to be patient with me. Sometimes I'm not going to get things right away, but I would love for whoever I date in the future to just help me and be there for me and work with me through any struggles. Uh...someone to make me laugh, I love hugs so I would love to have someone to always be open to hug me and even cuddle. Am I getting too cheesy?" She looked around and got laughs in response from the MCs while Rapmon translated what she said.
"I do enjoy skinship, so hugs, or piggyback rides, anything. I tend to focus more on the personality, not the looks. I want someone that makes me happy and respects me. I'm outgoing so, if I date a shy person, I will do everything I can to bring them out of their shell. Everything." She shot the guy a thumbs up. She continued, "And another thing, to the fans and anyone in general, please don't change who you are to fit someone's ideal type. We're all different, we have different personalities from others. And I know what you're thinking. How can anyone want someone so skinny and bony like me? Or someone so chubby like me? Flat chest, big chest, skinny legs, thick legs, or I have acne on my face, scars or stretch marks, or whatever. Love comes in all shapes and sizes. There is someone out there for you."
"Sadly, there are people who don't understand that. And I think media can also be an issue because of that. Oh, I gotta look a certain way for this person and that person to notice me," she added. "Like no, don't do that. Keep doing you and be yourself. That's attractive to me. Let me see who you really are, behind any makeup and behind the scenes. And don't get upset when you're not like someone's ideal type. I'm guilty of this, I've had a crush on some K-pop idols before when I was younger. But remember that there's someone out there for everyone and someone will love you for who you are, no matter what you look like or what you've gone through. Just gotta wait. Love is patient. Love is unpredictable."
"I don't see myself dating anyone here since I don't really fit anyone's ideal type around here and besides, I always imagined myself dating someone in America, anyway. But you never know, someone might come in and change that. I think it's a beautiful thing, how love can be so unpredictable in the craziest ways. And whoever my special someone is, I hope that they are eating well, are happy, and are getting enough sleep. And I hope they're thinking the same about me. And...I just rambled. Sorry, heheh." She looked down, feeling her face heat up.
After Rapmon translated, Jungkook gazed at her. 'Love is patient and unpredictable.' He repeated in his head.
"That was inspiring." The female Jimin applauded with Eric. "I'm getting emotional."
"Did I answer your question?" Jen smiled at the guy on the screen.
"Very! Thank you for giving me hope! That was a passionate response." He smiled.
On the Twitter live feed, fans tweet,
'Yo...we ALL have a chance to date Jennie!!'
'Does she like girls!? Because I have a MAJOR crush on her, she's so damn beautiful!'
'Well she did say they instead of specifying a guy.'
'We don't deserve this girl!'
'Protect her!'
'I knew it! First kiss with Jungkook!? AHHHH! DATE!'
'We ALL have a chance with Jennie. She's so cool!'

'Do you think she'll date one of the members??'
'Well she did say she doesn't see herself dating in Korea, but in America.'
'Yeah but remember, she said love is unpredictable!'
'I bet her special someone is closer than she thinks.'

'Um, no, JenMin!'
Before they could go to the next person, the MCs announced that they were out of time. They finally take their ending shot. "All right, thanks for joining us, we'll see you next time on ASC!" Eric closed the show.

SBFC 003: My Snake Have Started to Move
Woolie sets up the website, it dies right away and he stays up all night trying to buy better servers and make sure the shit works.
Audible is the first ever sponsor, Woolie says it’s a product he uses and is comfortable advertising. He goes on to list Opie and Anthony as a favorite radio show on the service, he mentions they have Louis C.K interviews on their show. Some comic called Woolie Shitlocks.
[Anthony Cumia got kicked off the show with his name in the title because of racist tirades on Twitter dot com. Louis C.K was cancelled for jerking off in front of people, maybe DON’T do that?]
As Matt cleaned his snake’s tank it escaped the temporary enclosure, he calls out to the silent predator, its name is Jack. “My snake have started to move.”
Pat: Woolie, who are you?
Woolie: A black person.
They make it a point to introduce themselves so the listener knows who is who, and realize they didn’t do it last week.
Woolie: I’m gonna let everyone in on a little secret: Woolie isn’t a nickname.
Pat: That’s not a secret. Are you going to let people know the real secret? As to—
Woolie: NOOO. YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP.
[A mystery we still don’t know, probably.]
They talk about where the podcast is available. [You could listen to them on the Zune, what a fuckin’ throwback.]
On to their weeks:
Liam played Dragon’s Crown. He also watched episode 1 of RWBY, he says the action is good but the characters are shallow and tropey, the rest of the writing doesn’t fare better. He doesn’t think he’ll keep watching it. 6/20 review score.
[RWBY is fairly popular, I only see rule 34 in my feed on the rare occasion.]
Matt has been working on Rustlemania and playing Divekick, is hyped for Killer is Dead. His birthday is today (the day the podcast publishes, they record the day before) so his birthday is coming up.
Pat has an aside. He played Saints Row 4 on pc and tried to fix a texture issue, he ended up having the entire rig shit on itself and then just played Divekick on every other console he has. Dork girl beats his ass with Kenny in every match she picks him. He tried to play FF14 but it was broken so he was unable to, Woolie jokes it’s because of its massive popularity.
Woolie has been mourning his recently bought, pre-owned launch PS3 that was also repaired. The group talks about how many 360 consoles they have burned through; Woolie went through 3, Pat through 4, Liam broke 1 at work, Matt went through 5 at work and only 1 personal console. Woolie laments the issue with getting his saves off the console because apparently PS doesn’t automatically back up your saves digitally? Finally he looked up the podcast’s performance, Ep 002 hit #15 the day it came out.
Gamescom time:
They start with the Xbox showcase, or the lack of anything. They laugh at Fighter Within, Liam calls it flail simulator, Woolie calls it QWOP for Kinect. Matt wants to get a copy of Fighter Uncaged and compare the two games jokingly, he then says the game’s screenshots look nice, like it would be a game he’d play if it were an actual fighting game.
PS4 talk begins with talking about how ugly the red and blue Dualshock controllers are, Pat blames it on the ugly PS4 controller. They agree it’s way more comfortable than the PS3, Pat says it’s 1% better than the 360 pad, “Completely negligible,” he states. Pat feels the Xbone controller is worse and feels bulkier, doesn’t care for the ‘Impulse Triggers’, or rumble in general.
They lust for the White Xbox One, which was ultra limited at the beginning of the console cycle. They spiral down conversations about wanting specific color consoles and cobbling their limited run handhelds together to keep them for longer.
The rest of the news:
Wonderful 101 was meant to be a Nintendo crossover game, similar to Smash Bros. They discuss which weapons would correlate to which character, then Liam says, “Yo, a Captain Falcon character action racing game by Platinum!” Pat and Woolie pog. Pat believes there will a Star Fox-like level in Wonderful 101 that just barely skirts the line of being Star Fox, based on Kamiya’s constant talks about the IP.
[Platinum Games made a Star Fox game in 2016, I think people liked it.]
Matt brings up the issue with potentially making 101 a crossover game, claiming people would complain Nintendo is not making new IPs, but then voices that people are already complaining it’s not a crossover game. “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t,” he aptly says.
Pat: The problem is that new IPs are great, but crossovers are rarer than new IPs.

Rare is ‘kicking around ideas for their IPs’. They lament the state of the studio. Matt states ex-employees said they had dozens of game ideas and Xbox shot them all down because they didn’t include Kinect integration. Woolie and Matt mock Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. Pat doesn’t care about the upcoming Killer Instinct reboot, but says he’d care more if Rare was working on it.
[Rare has put out Rare Replay and Sea of Thieves, they worked with the devs who made KI and the newest Battletoads, and Everwild has yet to be a real game. Not a great record, but hey Banjo and Kazooie got into Smash Bros, that’s something I guess. Also Nuts and Bolts walked so TOTK could run. The validity of the last statement is irrelevant because I have played neither.]
This section is dubbed “SNK get your shit together” by Liam. Evidently there are 4 games called KOF Online, this most recent one is a MOBA. They joke about other kinds of weird spinoff games the series could be, RTS, etc. Woolie proposes Metal Slug as a Maple Story type of game.
Blizzard is not opposed to making World of Warcraft free-to-play. Pat claims they’re on the way to it, based on the decline of players in the game. He also mentions cosmetic packs that players can buy have been very successful. Liam asks their guesses for FTP, Pat says in 2016, Woolie mentions ‘Titan’ is delayed until 2016 so he guesses 2015, Matt agrees with someone, Liam says 8 months.
[WoW has maintained ‘free up to level 20’, which was started in 2011 from what I can see, so they’re all wrong. We can all blame WoW whales for the microtransactions hellscape being normalized, fuck you MMO dorks. Titan, a new MMO, was delayed in 2013 but was actually cancelled internally, a small team of 40 (from 140) were tasked with making a new game. They made Overwatch.]
Woolie doesn’t care about the FTP date because the farthest things on his ‘list’ are SF5 and the Mars Mission in 2023, where we’ll be sending humans up to the red planet to colonize.
[Lmao that Mars shit ain’t happening bud, grab a brewski and enjoy the end of the world if you can see through the smoke. Street Fighter 5 released on 2/16/2016, so he didn’t have to wait too long.]
FFXIV relaunched and people are turning around on the game, the problem is the server are entirely busted. [They go into a viewer question that asks which MMOs the boys played, it’s not interesting enough to reiterate here. But Pat did say this:]
Pat: Phantasy Star Online isn’t an MMO. PSO2 is, but you’re never going to get it, shut up.
[PSO2 is on all major consoles and is playable outside of Asia as of 2020, thanks Xbox.]
Fite Game time:
Woolie and Liam played Aquapazza. They like it as a fighting game but are confused as to why *this* one is coming to the West.
Woolie jokes that Undernight Inbirth is coming over, they all agree that it doesn’t need to come over. [It did eventually, as well as its sequel.]
Yatagarasu is getting renamed to Legend of Raven for the Western release, it is also switching from 3DS to Vita. They wonder why the full switch from the different handhelds, Matt says it’s because Nicalis is “a shit publisher that will do anything they can to get the easiest thing….” He is spoken over by Liam and Woolie who adamantly contest his claim.
Woolie says Nicalis deserves respect because he is the guy who convinced Pixel (creator of Cave Story) to get back into making games. Matt’s issue with them is that they promise new games for years, then do not support them. Woolie and Liam are still upset with ‘shit publisher’, Matt doesn’t back down.
Pat tries to divert away from the topic by calling Capcom a shit publisher. They aren’t giving Ace Attorney 5 a retail release, and the WiiU version of Shadow over Mystara has been delayed until September. No one knows why he brought that up during the fite game section.
Ultra Street Fighter 4 is coming out and getting rebalanced. Liam and Pat will fight to the death over Hakan’s oil. Post hit KOs were breaking the game so they took it out.
Killer Instinct has a bit of info. They feel the model for KI is weird with the ‘packs’ that were being introduced, apparently they were different than the new character add-ons and is confusing. Pat would have preferred if they made the whole game then released “Super KI” later like Capcom.
Liam: The biggest bummer for me is that there’s no physical version.
Pat: Hey Liam, get used to that being a bummer.
Matt: Ken Lobb said the physical version will come out way later.
Pat: Oh, I meant in general.
[Killer Instinct’s model is the current model for most fighting games now: launch, add new purchasable characters and costumes, add other free stuff, update until you’re done. Lack of physical releases has only gotten worse, physical is disappearing everyday. I personally don’t care but the choice should remain.]
Pat is concerned about game preservation. If a digital storefront is closing, like Games for Windows Live, the games on it will simply disappear; he also brings up the issue of discs needing to activate via server pinging. He has an opinion about Xbox wanting people to buy into their online infrastructure, even though they have shuttered the OG Xbox online service as well as Games for Windows, though he doesn’t quite finish the thought. He does call those 2 services garbage, however.
[This section is still very relevant, but Pat hasn’t even seen the worst of it yet. Nintendo has closed the Wii, WiiU, and 3DS shops, entirely cutting off the last legal avenue to obtain those games easily; they clearly hate game preservation so it’s a good that emulation is a thing. Xbox has at least tried to get older games onto their backwards compatibility library, though the amount of exemptions is undeniable. We’re still waiting to the Xbox 360 closure coming July 2024, they are vocal about preserving as many titles as possible before then. PS and Xbox are no longer making all-new storefronts it seems, so that’s a plus.]
They have a discussion about how online services lasting longer than it’s initial lifetime is rare, they end up comparing games like APB to digital storefronts, which really aren’t comparable. Pat believes Steam is the gold standard that all other online services should be compared to.
Back to KI [yeah, we’re still on that topic], Ken Lobb promises that KI will be THE first party fighter, they will keep adding onto it rather than make a sequel. A new character was accidentally shown in a Thunder video provided to Gamestrailers, Woolie believes it was Kim-Wu but it is actually Sadira; Maximillian Dood is the only one with the footage of the character so he went sort of viral for it.
Matt thinks all the old characters should be in the game first before a new one, they rip on Spinal for being a dumb skeleton. They also speculate how the returning characters will play.
[Spinal is undoubtably awesome in this KI. The devs release both new and returning characters throughout the game’s life and no one really seemed to complain about all old characters not being before characters like Hisako and Rash.]
Ben Affleck is confirmed the new Batman, “what’s his face” is still Superman. Woolie describes Zack Snyder flicks as ‘cool action, nothing in between.’ Woolie gives Batfleck the benefit of the doubt because of Heath Ledger’s Joker, Pat says Affleck already sucked as Daredevil so he has no faith in the casting. Matt retorts with Chris Evans going from the Human Torch to Captain America. Matt continues with saying people shouldn’t be mad about Batfleck, they should be mad they’re getting ANOTHER Man of Steel movie.
Pat: Ben Affleck has like a 13 movie deal…
Matt: Everyone has a 13 movie deal.
Woolie: Until it tanks.
A bit of an aside, but they get to Mark Hamill voicing the Joker, they state how he’s ‘not doing it anymore’ because Troy Baker is voicing the character in Arkham Origin.
Pat: Troy Baker is going to be the new everything.
[Ben Affleck was fine(?) as Batman. We wasn’t Batman in very many DC movies, cameo or otherwise. Not naming Henry Cavill as Superman is hilarious to hear today because of his status as the unhygienic nerd’s power fantasy come to life: absolutely nothing against the man himself, he’s just a dude. Mark Hamill voiced Joker plenty of times after Arkham Origins; he has stated that he’s no longer interested in portraying Joker now that Kevin Conroy, his Batman, has passed. I hear Troy Baker a lot less nowadays, probably because game devs are avoiding using unionized actors.]

Pat: I wish that Nelson Mandela made Boateng look like Cole Train.

Reliving Wu-Tang Forever

Iconic rap group The Wu-Tang Clan took the 90s by storm with classic songs such as “C.R.E.A.M.,” “Da Mystery of Cheeseboxin’,” “Duck Seazon,” and many more.
The group was formed in 1991 in Staten Island, New York. It comprised of GZA, RZA, Method Man, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa.
All these year later, Hulu’s original series Wu-Tang: An American Saga highlights the trials and tribulations the members of the group went through amid the cocaine epidemic in the 1990s. During the first season, we saw how Bobby Diggs’ (RZA’s) passion for music drives him. That same passion finally brings the members of The Wu-Tang Clan together in the second season, streaming on Hulu starting September 8, 2021.
We were lucky enough to speak with most of the cast on Zoom leading up to the new episodes. These co-stars included Ashton Sanders playing Bobby Diggs (RZA), Julian Elijah Martinez playing Mitchell Diggs (Divine, RZA’s brother), Marcus Callender playing Oliver Grant (Power), Uyoata Udi playing Jason Richard Hunter (Inspectah Deck), Zolee Griggs playing Shurrie Diggs (RZA’s sister), Shameik Moore playing Corey Woods (Raekwon), Damani Sease playing Lamont Jody Hawkins (U-God), Siddiq Saunderson playing Dennis Coles (Ghostface Killah), and Johnell Young playing Gary Earl Rice (GZA). They discussed how they prepared for their roles, how they got involved with a now hit series, what it was like working with Wu-Tang member RZA, and much more.
Congratulations on the tremendous success of Wu-Tang: An American Saga, as well as the second season coming out in just a couple of weeks. How did you get involved with such a popular series?
Ashton Sanders: That is a great question, Kayla. It's a throwback question, actually. I initially had a meeting with RZA in Los Angeles. It was RZA and one of the producing partners on the show, Alex Tse. RZA brought me in. He had just seen me in Equalizer 2 with Denzel Washington. He essentially was like, "Yo, there's something about that character, that I feel. I see a lot of a lot of Bobby. I would love for you to come in and make this happen.” So that happened, the show happened. And yeah, now we're here. It's all been a very crazy ride. It's all been very special. Like you said, the group is very iconic. I'm 25. At the time, when I got the part, I was 23. I had to really dive in and really get into the group. I only knew so much. When you do [get to know the group], you start to realize why they were so iconic, why they were moving to coach me so much. Then you put on the character, and you are feeling like you're living the lives of these people. You're able to appreciate them more on a deeper level outside of the music. It's been special, man. I love it.
Zolee Griggs: Back in 2018, I got an audition for a show. Of course, hearing that Wu-Tang was having a show about their lives captivated me immediately. A lot of people don't know much about the Wu-Tang Clan, so that was the first thing that got me. I auditioned and I was lucky enough to get a callback. Then I did a chemistry read with Siddiq [Saunderson], which was the first time we met. I got the role right before Christmas, so I call it an early Christmas gift! I'm super appreciative that we've made it this far.
Johnell Young: It really started with Instagram. I saw them post the script. Alex Tse posted a script on Instagram, somebody posted a script with him, and I screen grabbed it. I was like, "What about Wu-Tang clan?" This is about where I'm from, Staten Island. This is about iconic legends where I'm from. I'm like, "Yo, I got to get these opportunities." So I basically went made a video as the GZA that went viral on Instagram. All the Wu-Tang Clan members saw it, and my manager wound up getting me a read for it. Then once I got the read, I flew out to LA. Once I got to LA, I was on my homeboy's couch, I was like "Yo, bro, I got to stay for the night." I just auditioned the morning and killed it. The next thing I know, RZA's calling me like, "Yo, I need you to come to set this day." I pulled up, I didn't know if I got it or not. I didn't know what was going on. Me and my mom just pulled up and he [RZA] was like, "Yo I seen that video man. Yo, everybody say congratulations, man. He's playing my cousin in the show." I looked at my mother like all I just freaked out. It was one of the craziest days. They were rolling, so I was like, "Oh snap." It was great. It was a great introduction to Wu-Tang: An American Saga.
Siddiq Saunderson: Audition. In season one, I was just starting to book roles and stuff like that. I got an opportunity to audition for Wu-Tang: American Saga, an audition for a role named Dennis. I did not originally know [it] was Ghostface Killah, which I think actually helped me because I trained at drama school. In drama school, we learn that it's in the script, a lot of the answers are in the script. Yes, you make things up, but a lot is in the script. Starting from the script, and starting from Dennis, and honoring that, I think is what got me the role. I wasn't really worried about trying to put on this or that or something to in order to play him. I just was honoring what I saw on the page. I just had a couple of auditions, had a couple of callbacks and then was blessed to be a part of one of the biggest, most iconic hip hop families and music families of all time. So, that was my story.
Marcus Callender: The real way auditioning for it, I got a callback, and then I tested.
You went through the motions!
Marcus Callender: I went through the motions.
Uyoata Udi: I think mine was the most interesting of all. My manager was on the hunt for this audition like four months prior, even hitting the breakdowns. She sent it over to me. I was working on so many other things and I was focused on that. Once it came my way, I jumped on it did it. Literally, it went like one day I got booked in the morning. Then they were looking for a flight for me to fly out, to get to New Jersey that night. It was such an amazing process in the grand scheme of it. When I flew out to New Jersey, I met RZA. His first comment was, "Yo, I didn't choose you, I chose you in my mind, but I left that right to Inspectah Deck. Inspectah Deck chose you.” I think that my character choosing me was an honor and a blessing.
How did you prepare yourself for this role?
Ashton Sanders: I didn't allow myself to put any pressure on. For me, I try to hold humanity within every character that I put on. I just wanted to get to the most human part of him. Not put on a celebrity, what people perceive him to be, like, really get it. The corporate spirit, almost. It's spending time with the RZA, having those conversations. It's outside of all of the research that you have to do. You have to dig back in the archives, do a lot of background work – watch videos. Although RZA is still alive, he's very much not the same person he was in Wu-Tang, as he is now being this 40-year-old man. It's taking all of that into account, right, and just collectively putting that on. Trying it out until it works, and if it doesn't, it doesn't. It was definitely cool to have RZA on set with me, especially through that initial first season to guide me. This season came back around. I'm super excited for it. I think there's a lot of growth within this character of Bobby that we see within all of the guys actually. It's very much a story of brotherhood. We've seen these guys come together and finally, form Master Wu-Tang Clan. We finally see Bobby transition into RZA. We finally see Ason transition into ODB. We finally see Dennis transition into Ghostface Killah. It's very exciting, man, I think it's going to be a very exciting season. This one is more a music-based season. We're focusing more on 36 Chambers this season. I think the fans are going to be excited. Everybody involved is really stoked for this to come out.
Zolee Griggs: I was fortunate enough to meet with one of RZA's sisters. Her name was Sophia. She, Erika [Alexander], and I had to sit down and get lunch one time. We were able to discuss the dynamic of the family and those close-knit relationships, whether it was between the mom and the sisters, or just the sisters with all the brothers and how they lived in their daily lives. That gave me great insight, of course. Then also bringing in my own experience as a woman, because even though I am playing somebody else, all women can relate to Shurrie and the dynamic that she has with her mom, or her relationship with Dennis, or even her brothers. It's easy to implement my own experience into her character and into the role. Working with such great co-stars makes it that much easier as well.
Johnell Young: It was fortunate that my clan member is still alive. I got a chance to text GZA and speak to him. Pick his mind every now and then and then go to his performances in Coney Island. Endless nights of just watching YouTube and researching and listening to music, listening to albums just to see what his mind and his mindset was at those certain times around '93-'94 ish. I'm from Staten Island, so I've been studying them since I was young. All of that mixed together prepared me to actually play this role.
Shameik Moore: I didn't really do a lot of preparing to be honest with you, I had to demand to meet Raekwon. I had the opportunity to [speak with him]. RZA called me and told me he wanted me to be in the show. I was blessed with the opportunity for him to call me, but that meant that I didn't have like the research in me. I was like, wait, I had to do everything he said. I think the main thing was that I needed to meet Raekwon, and I did meet Raekwon. That's where my answers were. How he walks, how he ate his food, when he didn't respond when it was just a look. All the little details. There's stuff that an actor studying someone that he's playing would pay attention to.
Damani Sease: For me, it was really watching YouTube interviews, some performing. Studying his mannerisms and reading these books. Most importantly, reading his book because all these other books aren't from his perspective. Reading his book, I'm seeing everything. And honestly, talking to him on the phone, finding out more stuff because there may be some things that he didn't want to put [in the book]. Talking to his son, too, really helped a lot with my performance.
Siddiq Saunderson: For me, like they both said, obviously YouTube. I tried to find the earliest interviews that I could find. For me, my process, I didn't find that it was as useful to find more recent interviews, because I'm not playing him then. All people evolve. I'm not the same Siddiq I was 10 years ago. If somebody was playing me 10 years ago, I wouldn't really want them to study me now. I would want them to study me back to then. Speaking of Ghostface, we honestly didn't really speak about the show. When we did talk, we spoke more about just life. I was really trying to figure out, subconsciously, how do my life values line up with his. A lot of the things were very parallel so that just made me trust myself and trust my instincts. At the end of the day, it's me playing him and yes, it's him, but it's me that the audience is taking in when they're watching the show. So that and also trusting in RZA. Knowing that RZA was there, because another thing that I learned is that you can learn a lot about a person through what other people say about them. Not on a gossipy level, but just, sometimes people want to say "I was this" and "I was that" and put out all the good things about themselves. When you hear from somebody who is like a best friend, a cousin, or brother or something, you can really get those other sides that just add a little bit more dimension to who that person was in their entirety. I really use that as one of my tools.
Julian Elijah Martinez: I spoke to Divine in season one, and then I spoke to him again in season two. We sat down and we had like a two and a half-hour interview. Not an interview, but like kind of meeting. Then I worked with one of my acting teachers. Basically what I did was I took a bunch of his interviews. I took my headphones and put them in my ear. I just listened to him over and over again. So yeah, that's my process.
Marcus Callender: My experience in season one, I didn't meet Power until episode seven. I think leading up to that, I was a bit worried if I was portraying him correctly. I quickly realized in meeting him, oh, there's not much extra I need to do because it's already there. I see why they cast me to play him. But season two, before we started filming he and I got really close over the pandemic. We had a lot of time to just talk and we weren't even talking about the show, really. We would just be talking about shit. Through that, I got a lot of opportunity to spend with him. We've hung out, we've grabbed food. I've gone to LA with him to do a pop-up for Wu-Wear. I just got really blessed to spend a lot of time with him. That allowed me to really tackle the details, and how I portrayed him in season two.
What would you say the biggest challenge was taking on such a role in such an important series?
Zolee Griggs: The biggest challenge for me was making sure that I did the role justice. I just wanted to make RZA proud, and his family, because they're sitting at home watching this. Then also making myself proud. Making sure that I'm doing the work and that I'm having a good time. That all of us as an ensemble are having a good time. Taking the time to really flesh out these characters, flesh out these people. It's beautiful challenges. I think we're doing a pretty good job.
Johnell Young: His rapping. He’s a real rapper. I'm not a rapper. He has a gold tooth, so I had to learn all that, like how to speak. It was challenging, but it was fun. The journey was dope. I'm having a great time just playing his role.
Seeing that the show is a biography, in a sense, did any aspects of the Wu-Tang story come as a shock to you?
Zolee Griggs: Yeah, the whole thing. Like I said, nobody knows about Wu-Tang's personal business. When they came up in the early 90s, like '93, there was no social media. Even now, if you Google the Wu-Tang Clan, you can't really see family members. You don't really know information. I think that's kind of sweet that they were able to keep their personal lives their personal business. I'm appreciative. They're brave for coming out with this show to let us all know how they came about. The whole thing was a shocker. It's still a shocker because we get each episode as we're going along, I'm like, "Their lives were crazy. No way that this is real." But hey man, they lived crazy lives, and we're here to tell their story.
Johnell Young: I was really wondering how they all came together. How RZA pulled them all together, there's like 10 of them. I'm like, yo, if you really think about it, how I see it today, 10 people really can't really come together and really work on some stuff. Unless it's like a set or something like that, people really come together. Especially back then, for 10 people from the urban area come together to achieve one thing like that was amazing. For me to be able to see that and learn how it happened, the logistics of how this one pulled this one here, this one got this one to come here for this studio session, so then it all came into a mold. That was like, the greatest learning experience.
What was your experience working with any of the Wu-Tang Clan members?
Johnell Young: Oh, it was good. Energy is always hot, they speak manifestations. They’re very spiritual and Zen people. That's exactly what I practice and where I'm at in my life today. Working with them was great energy. We're just manifesting stuff.
What is one thing that you hope viewers and fans take away from this season of the show?
Ashton Sanders: I hope that they fucking love it. I hope that they love it more than the first season. I'm sure that they will. I know that a lot of people are going to love this season for a lot of different reasons. I know that for a fact. I just hope that the people love it, that they enjoy watching it, and they want us to come back for season three.
Zolee Griggs: I hope that people – it's a theme throughout life, I would say in general right now – put the differences aside and to come together. Being a unit, being a group is so much easier and better than trying to do things on your own. The saying "it takes a village" is true. We work better as a people when we work together when we're a community. When we set our differences aside, no matter how big or small, and we come together. It's really simple. It could be. I guess we're still trying to figure it out. But yeah, whether it's off-screen or on, unity, for sure.
Johnell Young: I've been stressing this about the season, brotherhood and unity. That's what the world needs, especially right now. It's wonderful that this show is projecting that energy, of coming together and working on one cause, so that we could accomplish one goal. So yeah, brotherhood, unity, camaraderie, and coming together to focus and achieve what you want.
Uyoata Udi: It's amazing to see the Brotherhood that lies within the show and the storyline. I think that it speaks to everyone who has a heart, who's human. We're a reflection of one another. I think that the Brotherhood portion of the story speaks volumes.

S5 Ep 3: Apdnarg is Really Hard to Spell
Yo guys, people are getting vaccinated, the sun is parting through the clouds, and I felt so nice that I even stopped listening to quite so many throwback 00′s BTS mashups (and yet I keep clicking on these dissonant catastrophes thinking “this time it’s got to be better. This time they’ll figure it out.” and like, no. Turns out you can’t match Brittany’s Toxic with BTS’ Black Swan. You can’t do that.)
This must be a sign that things are getting better. If anything, it means my personal tastes are improving. I mean I only clicked on like 3 “Dark Academia” Playlists where I could pretend I’m some sort of spooky witch in an abandoned library with a bad music player and basic taste in classical music (like can we ban Satie from Youtube for a little while?). Hell, I might even do a prompt update to this blog!
Yeah, you heard me, I’m actually going to stay ahead of the update schedule for Yugioh Abridged (maybe. I haven’t actually watched cuz of spoilers, I just noticed the thumbnail pop up on Youtube and was like “Damn it, they came out of hiatus??? I got hurry UP.”)
Anyway, speaking of the sky parting.
I’ll have you know my bro said this is actually more like a circumcision and it was one of the worst thing I have ever heard.
We get a chance to take in this lineup of confusing and varied character designs, and Joey. who is...still Joey.
The animators probably had to hold a strike in order for them to put Yugi in the audience, lets be real. There are TOO MANY PEOPLE in this shot and one is wearing a turban where you draw every single wrap. I hope those artists charged by the line.
Tea has a subplot where she’s just very frustrated with everyone she knows. They have been traveling together for like many weeks and got trapped in a foreign country so I get it. But at the same time, it’s kind of hard to picture Tea with female friends.
Because right now you got this 12 year old child, the other duelist who does not care about anything besides cards, and Kaiba’s 3 dragon cards that we’ve all collectively decided are female.
Hell it’s almost like the writers are asking themselves why Tea is here. Maybe they forgot. There’s no more ghosts to bus, no more people to knock out with her ass with random Olympic feats. Tea’s just sidelining.

Mokuba is a itty bit bit taller this season, and so I guess that means he can legally climb on top of the cherry picker in order to give a riveting speech.
Really says a lot about Mokuba that he is so unphased about talking to, I dunno...an entire planet of people. Kind of a shame we never see this courage from Mokuba used for anything other than talking really, really big and giving everyone around him a really hard time.
Mokuba takes a moment to dunk on Yugi Muto, as is Kaiba tradition.
And then introduce the first pair of duelists, which obviously must be between the few people in this tournament that we actually know and care about.
Thankfully, in between last episode and this episode, Yugi has figured out who his own Grandpa is. This is a relief, because Yugi is such a mess, that I was fully convinced it would take over half a season for him to recognize it. I mean how long did it take him to figure out he shares a body with a ghost? Like half a season?
Instead Yugi recovered gracefully from not recognizing his grandpa, but it’s not like he bothered to tell anyone else, so the rest of our cast is just gonna be like “Is he my hairdresser? The guy who delivers my mail? Who is this guy who made absolutely no significant changes to his outfit or voice?”
Like sometimes this show goes full Spongebob silly kid’s show and you never know when to take it seriously or not. They might be sacrificing the entire cast next episode. I really don’t know. But for now their big concern is who is grandpa??? Like an innocent card version of “Are you my Mother?”
Faced with public speaking, Yugi decides to have a melt down.
We have seen him face monsters, we’ve seen him on TV dozens of times, he’s been in multiple competitions...but give a speech? Of course he can’t do that. The kid doesn’t attend enough school to know how to do that. Them’s learning skills.
And that was when a newly assembled wife-jet spliced through the sky like a souped up razer scooter and deposited 1 fully equipped Seto Kaiba in a Buzz Lightyear jetsuit.
THE RECOVERY.
Seto always watching over his Brother, ready to save this awkward party if it kills him (and it really should, that suit is held together by two seat-belts), making sure to get on that platform before Yugi starts going off about how he’s half an Ancient Egyptian. (Ah, life before social media. You could just be hella famous and also half a dead dude and people would just not know. I kinda miss the time before I knew literally everything about everyone.)
Please admire how close those flames are to setting Mokuba’s heavily hairsprayed mane completely alight. It would be an unforgettable spectacle.
These were absolutely just random ass jet packs that Gozaburo Kaiba made to kill hell tons of people, right? Like Seto found it in the family cabin, clutched to the heart of some crispy fried corpse and was like “neat! Mokuba! I found a cool toy!” and just plucked that thing out of that skeleton’s clutches and has been flying around for months?
Like this is Seto Kaiba’s Butter Glider, right?
Seriously what type of vehicle license do you need for one of these things? RIP My ‘Seto only has a scooter license’ headcanon.
Which I’m only even thinking about because I’ve had to try and make an appt with the DMV for days to get a freakin REAL ID. I went to sleep in 2019 and I could fly on a plane. I woke up in 2021 and it’s like “Want one last screw you?” and just...can 2020 please stop screwing me over? It’s March.
Anyway, the Jet is removed soon after, so no, this is not part of his new outfit. He goes right back to his Post-S4-Trauma-Normcore.
After wrestling this competition out of his brother’s hands and confusing everyone in the audience, Roland must have gotten the memo to cut the microphone before Seto got too excited and we were quickly ushered on to the next stage of the tournament.
One sec...the BTS Mashup playlist I just clicked on did a Black Swan X 7 rings mashup and it’s the worst thing my ears have ever heard.
Holy crap. I had to actually turn down my volume. Like...Ariana Grande already has music that has way too many overlapping singing parts on it--and then lets just stick a 52-person boy band on top? That’ll fix it. Yeah. Go ahead.
Wow. Even I had to change the song and you know how much I enjoy pop culture mistakes.
Spot the Mickey but like a million times easier because it’s a Massive Dick Shaped Dragon.
Yep. That’s my grocery shopping outfit. Except maybe not a lab coat and a duel disk. Wish I had a duel disk, that would make social distancing just a hell ton earlier. Just a “Yo, only one person in checkout, please” and then bap them on the head with a propelled discuss/hologram.
Anyway, Grocery shopping/Doctor man dueled the Purple Hair Boy, and considering that Purple Hair got screen time and shook Yugi’s hand once--I think that Doctor man doesn’t stand a freakin chance.
Good. I hate him.
Also, every time he breathes he’s gonna fog up his glasses. I have experience in this area. He can’t read his own cards in the same way I can’t read my phone if I’m in the refrigerated aisle.
So the way this tournament works, is everyone has to sit in the stadium to watch the show. Kinda like showing up to a football stadium just to watch a recorded TV monitor...but then again...that is how it feels to watch a football game at a football stadium when it’s live (at least with the tickets I usually get.)
And as we watch Grandpa waiting for his competitor, we find out that his competitor (Joey) is too busy eating snacks to give him the time of day.
Why do cartoon hot dogs always have lettuce? Is that seriously supposed to be relish? Or is there a place in the world where you put lettuce on your hot dog?
Sorry, bro has just informed of his favorite hot dog order, which is absolutely terrible so I will share it with you: a Five Guys hot dog with ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, onions, mushrooms, pickled peppers, and you guessed it--topped with freakin lettuce.
My own kin. How am I over 30 and just finding out that my baby brother thinks it’s normal to walk into a restaurant with normal god-fearing law-abiding people and order lettuce and mushrooms on a hot dog?
I have fully failed him.
The rest of this episode is watching both Joey Wheeler and Mokuba have a shared panic attack while Seto does freakin nothing.
Please remember that Seto has both a jetpack and a dragon wife plane and could have easily solved this problem. But nah.
Then again, Seto Kaiba has given this crew so MANY rides, that maybe he’s tired of being the Soccer Mom for the team?
Like they don’t actually say this episode, but Seto was the one in charge of like...this entire place, do you think he made the 2 for 1 special just to get Joey where it hurts the most? Or does it actually not take any subterfuge to screw Joey Wheeler because he’s just naturally this way?
Like Mokuba wasn’t there when Joey was told “stay right here, and then we will all go together to fight Dartz” and Joey was like “I’mma save Mai from herself although she told me not to!” and then he Hella Died. But, Mokuba did see the result, AKA, Joey’s dead body being carried on the back of Tristan. Maybe Mokuba never realized that Joey died because he went out of his way to be late?
Lets do a tally of every time I can recall with my dodgy memory that Joey was threatened to be DQ’d/pretty much was DQ’d either by his own fault or no fault of his own
-When he wasn’t allowed to go on the boat to Murder Island because he was a stupid nobody kid who did not have a dueling glove
-When he wasn’t actually supposed to be in Pegasus’ tourney and was, in fact, secretly using half of Yugi’s entrance ticket the entire time
-when Bandit Keith stole the ticket that Joey got from Yugi so then Joey had to borrow Mai’s ticket although she had just used it so it really shouldn't have counted. Because, really anyone could have just piggy backed off of each other’s ticket until the whole boat went through that castle.
-When his account was hacked to get entered into Kaiba’s tourney when Kaiba very clearly told him he could not apply solely because he was Joey Wheeler.
-When he was late to his sister’s eye surgery because he got mugged by Marik’s Rare Hunters, so she almost refused to do the surgery.
-When Joey got possessed by Marik, and as Marik, threatened to murder everyone else in the tournament including both of the Kaiba brother’s who’s tournament it was, and then chained himself to Yugi Muto to throw both of them to the bottom of the ocean.
-I think there was a point when he threatened to attack Kaiba in Kaiba’s own tourney while not possessed? Like several times?
-when he got struck by Lightning and almost did not stand up fast enough after being struck by lightning, which is apparently a type of DQ in Duel Monsters.
-When he tried to save Mai from getting hit by a fireball, but then Yugi did it instead, and then so many people were standing on the dueling platform that Kaiba couldn’t possibly DQ them all.
-When he entered the restricted area of the blimp in order to hassle Kaiba into landing the Blimp, which Kaiba did not do.
-When Marik killed Joey before Joey could press the “go” button on his duel disk to play the card that should have won Joey the match.
-When he was dueling a lawyer in a digital universe but then the dice was like...weighted? So Noah had to walk over and be like “The hell is this weighted dice? This is my perfect digital world? How did you even do that?” and then Joey won because the match was no longer legit.
-When Joey yelled at Noah too much and so Noah turned Joey to stone for being a rude ass spectator
-When Mai was like “Wheeler and Valon, listen closely: do NOT murder each other” and then Joey did a murder on Valon so she was like “I guess I have no choice, I was very clear” and killed Joey straight up.
-When Joey decided to block Seto’s fireballs while Joey Wheeler WAS a playing card, somehow disrespecting both Dartz and Seto Kaiba at the same time.
-When Joey was playing cards but then got absorbed into a giant Leviathan and basically couldn’t play anymore after that.
-There’s probably hell ton of S0 stuff I just haven’t seen yet.
-This episode
And Joey runs fast for a montage of wacky things that really have no business being in a theme park. Things like this:

The stuff that the Kaiba brother’s think is normal and fun.
Anyway Joey fights off a bunch of hologram snakes and bats and everyone is like “Should we tell him it’s just holograms???” And it’s like wow, guys, how many times have these ‘holograms’ straight up murdered Joey Wheeler and everyone else on this cast? Too many? Because I have a google doc with so many deaths on it. 7,805,844,048, to be exact.
Anyway, he gets there with five seconds to spare and Mokuba’s like “well at least you were still entertaining while we filmed you in front of a live audience being a total spaz for 15 minutes straight, so I’ll let you go.”
Grandpa and Joey start playing, Joey completely oblivious that this is just an older Muto, while Hawkins walks up awkwardly and is like “hey guys. I’m so sorry about this.”

What’s funny about this exchange is that after they find out that Yugi’s Grandpa is Apdnarg (HOLY my brain cannot get around the spelling for that, and I will not change it in the caps. I cannot do a ‘pdn’ ever again), they don’t stand on his side of the field or anything. Hawkins is legit Solomon Muto’s only fan during this exchange and like...damn. Way not to back your Grandpa, Yugi.
Yugi immediately strides up to Mokuba to non-confrontation-ally inform him that he has stepped over a line and Mokuba is like “what are these things you say called ‘lines?’”
According to Mokuba, Solomon Muto begged him to be in the competition so he could relive his glory days (glory days making no sense here, because the game has only been released for the past 15 years, so glory days is like...the before times that can only be referring to disgraced archeologists and Pegasus ((who is, in his own way...a disgraced archeologist, too))) and Mokuba was like
“You trained Yugi Muto, right? Hey that’s good enough for me. This drama is gold. People will eat it up. Hell yes. Don’t be afraid to abduct him a little bit. Maybe trap a couple people in a digital hellscape for a little while? Now we go by Pegasus house rules here, so fire as many lasers as you want, but just make sure not to hit anyone in the face. Oh man, we are going to be swimming in cash. Love it, Muto Sr, love it.”
But I dunno, I feel like Grandpa won’t make it past next episode. It is Joey. We kinda need him to make it past Ep 4 of the arc. If Grandpa Muto becomes the new Joey Wheeler, that will be a weird transition for this show to make.

Doesn't Gregori Man sound like Decker verse Gregorl Man aka Imitation Dyna. I'm guessing it's gonna be a one episode character like a nostalgic throwback or maybe Imit Decker has a similar arc to Trigger Dark throughout the series (from impostor anti hero to hero)
Yo wtf I totally forgot about the dude's actual name that the reference just went over my head the first time OOF
Evidently this also suggests that there's gonna be an Imitation Decker down the line. And it is as you said, the potential for this character could go either way and there's not enough info for us at this point to determine which is the more likely possibility.
Cause it kinda all depends on what the series would be focusing on, what exactly is the overarching plot of the series and what are the other subplots. Cause as with the case of Trigger Dark in Trigger, Ignis becoming Trigger Dark was warranted by the whole Hudram subplot and it was purposefully coincided with the Trigger Truth's "I am both the Darkness and Light" concept in the final ep as foreshadowed in the first. But with the profile of his antagonist being unknown as well as just just how prevalent the Spheres are gonna be in Decker, its very hard at this point to really say what is the future of Imitation Dyna
(Tho I do want to also point out that we don't see Terranoid/Zelganoid/Sphire Decker as well for what its worth at this point, otherwise the penultimate boss seems to be Sphire Megalozoa as of now)
We should actually talk more about this after a few episodes of Decker to first get a feel of what's the plotline and possible subplots for the series before we can really have any meaningful conversations on this very interesting point

Holy heck.
It finally clicked.
The reason why Fitz said Jia Ying was pivotal. This whole time I thought it was because of her relationship with Kora but then why bank on Daisy bonding with her sister if that was the case? No. It was because Jia Ying can REGENERATE. That’s her power.
If she faced off against Nathaniel, she would survive. The hope was that she would take the battle and they would save her. Her dying basically ensures that Daisy is put at great risk. Unlike her mother, she might not be able to regenerate?????
So when Fitz clues them in and fills in the blanks for why Simmons and him picked these series of events and made certain decisions and plans for various trajectories, it had to have become clear that they might not come back from some sacrifices. Fitz and Simmons would work the problem but they’re running out of time and he can’t push too hard with her memory or she might lose everything.
The fact that Fitz says that everyone would have to work together to make the plan, make sure they are all on the same page and know what they are fighting for already shows the plan has changed. Love is sacrifice. You sacrifice for family and all of them are being asked to risk it all. AGAIN. But together this time.
The point though is that in this new arrangement there is like an 85% chance (or more) Daisy might not survive her fight with the psycho power stealer Malick. Mack, Coulson and May could be killed by Chronocoms or Cybil if Kora is unable to help them/is killed. Jemma, Fitz, Yo-yo and Sousa might be assainated by Chronocoms invading the base. Which would also mean that Jemma and Fitz might never get back to Alya.
(Also side-note: I do believe when Jemma says she remembers what they are fighting for- I do think she remembers Alya (yes!!) but I also think she’s remembering FAMILY. They are all family and you do anything, you risk everything for family).
If Jia Ying was alive and helping Daisy, she would be able to stay to finish Malick off and then they could save her (the way they saved Daisy). Daisy’s part—- was legitimately a Hail Mary because there was no guarantee she would survive that. I mean I am sure Simmons and Fitz would have had a plan for how to help Jia Ying regenerate (assuming the solution was still Kora) but there was no telling how Daisy’s anatomy would react. She’s powerful yes but would she survive????
Not to knock her sacrifice because honestly when I first watched it all I could think was ENOCH SAID THEY SURVIVE, NO ONE DIES I DONT CARE. DAISYYYYY!!!!! So when Kora saved her, I just thought - fuck yes that should be the way thanks.
Since I’ve spent the last week thinking so much about the episode, I realised that that was what Simmons might have meant by the anatomy analysis (which honestly throwback to S2 and the trepidation Simmons had to the whole inhuman stuff. THEY HAVE COME SO FAR OVER THE YEARS. SISTERS! I love them!!).
Daisy surviving could mean that she’s more like her mum than she initially thought??? Or her inhuman anatomy (and given the history of hoe inhumane came to be) she was bound to survive? Basically the analysis would be something that shed light on why Daisy was able to survive long enough to be rescued. Sorta like Starlord in Guardians.
(I do agree that the whole “after Fitz is asleep” part could be because it’s a sensitive/secret topic for Daisy. However Simmons said that in front of the others so it could have just been to remind us Fitzsimmons are married and cuties or because they are retired and not doing these things often or because they want to spend every moment they can together etc).
It would tie into the evolving powers of inhumans. Adding to the lore and creating room for characters like Daisy and Yo-yo to continue to be explored in a fantastical/superhero/powered person sense. Especially since they showed Yo-Yo’s powers evolving after she fought through her own psychological blocks. We’ve seen their powers grow as the seasons have passsd but this would be an interesting avenue to pursue- how, why, what makes them so different from people that just steal their powers.
AND IT WOULD FINALLY make clear that while he found a way to take their (Daisy’s and Kora’s) powers and sustain them, Nathaniel Malick was still a bitchass gross and awful human being and as such once destroyed could not regenerate.

Give me your romance drama recs / drama update
I’m in the mood for a romance drama but am kind of stumped on what I should watch, so PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR RECS! It can be kdrama, jdrama, cdrama (just maybe not contemporary cdrama since those really aren’t my bag), whatever. Or even a period English piece. I’m watching Do You Like Brahms? and really enjoying that so I wouldn’t mind something similar. Of course, I am also down for something more adult/steamy. Dysfunction is fine but it needs to have a happy ending. I guess I’m feeling kind of sappy. The key is that I want to swoon/feel those butterflies.
To kind of give you an idea of what I’ve watched/am watching:
Currently Watching
Do You Like Brahms? - LOVE LOVE LOVE. Slice of life and sweet romance done right. When Song Ah and Joon Young smile at each other, I smile along with them. Adorable and sweet without being twee. An undercurrent of melancholy without being morose/a kill joy.
My Beautiful Bride - I’m loving this and highly recommend it for anyone who likes thrills, action, and a HOT male lead single-mindedly devoted to his otp, who will go to the ends of the earth to be with her. He literally lives only to make his otp happy. While his love for her is what drives the plot of the story, this isn’t necessarily a romance drama. I mean, sure, I swoon and my heart flutters when I see him beat a group of gangsters to a bloody pulp with nothing but his fists and a key. And trust me when I say my hormones rage like crazy whenever he’s onscreen. But I’m looking for a more ordinary kind of love story to add to my roster of dramas. My Beautiful Bride is like two straight shots of the strongest whiskey in a shady dive bar - it’s intense, exciting, and totally gets me amped up. However, sometimes I need a break from the Johnnie Walker and slight sense of danger and want a nice, soothing, cup of warm tea instead.
Cruel City/Heartless City - So I know I just said I needed to mellow out my current watch list but I just LOVE this drama. It’s got a great otp but again, its main focus is not romance. Although, it does have one of the hottest kiss scenes in recent years. If you thought Jung Kyung Ho was nothing but a lanky, beta, weenie, this drama will totally change your mind. Plus, this is a re-watch so I don’t have to pay attention to everything.
Finished
Flower of Evil - I fully expected to not like this drama before it started because of the terribly misleading promos. The only reason I checked it out was because I liked Moon Chae Won and Lee Jun Ki. And boy am I glad I did! I love me a devoted otp who also stop to take the time to make out. The way Ji Won saved Hyun Su by just being herself and loving him and the way Hyun Su devotes his entire life to taking care of Ji Won and being a good husband to her - *chef’s kiss*. OH, also, Kim Ji Hoon’s glorious long hair.
My Unfamiliar Family - I don’t usually watch family dramas, but this was a nice little surprise. The romance was sweet. The healing family trauma aspect was heartwarming and done very well. Not overwrought at all. Some of the red herrings/misleading endings threw me a loop but overall, I enjoyed how they resolved the misunderstandings and conflict. The re-discovery of love between the parents was nice to watch. Really easy and enjoyable watch with a great slowburn friends to lovers pairing. I identified with the female lead a bit too much sometimes heh. Fun fact: The actor playing the dad also played the king in The King and the Clown who was obsessed with Lee Jun Ki’s character.
Dropped
When I Was the Most Beautiful / When I Was the Prettiest - This drama was so disappointing, it kind of upset me to be honest. The first two episodes started off so promising. My early 2000s dysfunctional jdrama with questionable teacher/student relationships loving ass thought I was finally getting a return to the good ol’ days (before anyone says anything, no, I do not condone teacher/student relationships in real life). I mean, they had Ji Soo, the king of playing high school students with impossible one-sided crushes who you want to root for, playing a high school student with a one-sided crush on his art student-teacher. We also had renowned hottie Ha Suk Jin playing his older brother and Im Soo Hyang playing the woman in between the two hot brothers. It had all the makings of a wonderful throwback to the old school dramas. But instead, we got stuck with whatever the hell this drama is. Anyway, disappointing!
The Merchant: Gaekju - I love Jang Hyuk. I love sageuks. I love Jang Hyuk in sageuks. But this story just wasn’t working for me and there was not enough shirtless Jang Hyuk to keep my attention.
Kinda Watching On/Off
Me Too, Flower! - An old drama that I randomly picked up because I wanted to watch something with Yoon Shi Yoon. I am only watching this because of the Yoon Shi Yoon-Lee Ji Ah pairing because frankly, the rest of the drama kinda bores me. Something I put on after work when I don’t want to be too involved/don’t need to concentrate too much.
Angry Mom - I started re-watching portions of this drama because of how pissed off I was about When I Was the Most Beautiful and the disappointment I felt when I foudn out Kim Hee Sun was playing Joo Won’s mom instead of lover in Alice (although from the looks of the posts in the tag, maybe she’s gonna be both? hahaha). This is Ji Soo’s break out role and for good reason. His crush on Kim Hee Sun’s undercover high school student mom is adorable and not creepy at all because (1) He doesn’t know she’s an ahjumma (a bit of suspension of disbelief is required for this drama because no matter how great KHS looks, high school student she is not); and (2) it’s completely one-sided and not reciprocated by KHS at all. Sigh, I just want to watch KHS in a hot noona romance and Ji Soo in a good romance where (1) he gets the girl and (2) the plot is not completely asinine.
Stopped Watching but Really Need to Return to
Ever Night S1 - Ok, I literally have less than 10 episodes left of this drama but for some reason I keep on putting it off. I have a real problem finishing dramas I love. Aside from the fact that I get easily distracted and hop from one drama to the next quite often, I think it’s also because I don’t want the drama to end. I know there’s a second season, but it just doesn’t seem the same. Anyway, I should just buck up and finish this drama already.
Novoland Eagle Flag - I took a break because the angst was just non-stop and I needed something a bit lighter.
Six Flying Dragons - I binged like 10 episodes one day and took a break to give my poor eyes and brain a rest. Then, in true me fashion, I got distracted by some other drama and now I can’t remember where I left off.
Mr. Sunshine - I love Lee Byung Hun as an actor and I am also a big fan of Byun Yo Han. This is also the hottest Yoo Yeon Suk has ever looked to me. But I kind of lost interest when it became apparent that all three male leads were going to be in love with the female lead. I like the female lead just fine but it’s kind of annoying how everybody is in love with her. I know this is a quality drama but honestly, I don’t think I will return to this unless I have nothing more interesting to watch.

-Landry confessing to murdering someone and then having his sheriff dad drag him out of the station to go home is the whitest shit EVER. Like, Landry is literally *trying* to be punished and they just won’t punish his white, cop-kid ass. ‘Murica. (I mean don’t get me wrong: it WAS self defense against someone literally stalking and trying to rape Tyra, but the point still stands that if Landry was a black kid he’d have been tried as an adult and convicted no doubt)

NOTE: This is a throwback episode! The throwbacks are from 4,5 years ago/beginning of 2015 & around 3,5 years ago/early 2016.

Remy was sitting in Roman’s trailer, playing quietly at his guitar. He was having a minor role in one of Roman’s movies. He could act, for sure, but he wasn’t an actor so having a friend on set felt great! He was just starting to play on the Steven Universe theme song as Roman came bursting in, soked in ink. He didn’t even stop to talk, just walking straight into the bathroom & Remy laughed slightly. He kept playing & opened his mouth to scream something after Roman but stopped as a guy he didn’t know interrupted him.
“Is that Steven Universe I hear?” Remy looked up & WOW! The guy had a brown sweater, light blue jeans & glasses, nothing special with the clothes, they were probably from H&M or something like that but DAMN the guy was hot af & he immediately caught Remy’s attention.
“Yeah, it is, you like it?” He kept playing different songs from SU & the guy softly hummed along before answering. Everything about the guy was surely beautiful. Like.. WHO HUMS THAT BEAUTIFULLY?! Remy had to fight all his instincts not to blush & he just blessed the fact that he had makeup on so it wasn’t clear if he blushed or not.
“Yeah! I love cartoons & Steven Universe is one of my favourites! I’m Emile by the way! I’m Roman’s friend”
“Oh, nice name you’ve got there, babe” Emile flushed up & Remy just coninued talking “Most people call me Remy but you can call me tonight” the pickup line was more than enough to get Emile to freeze & feel like his face was burning but he quickly pulled himself together. No way this amazing, hot & famous singer was flirting with a nerd such as himself, he was obviously just teasing so he just laughed nervously.
“Heh, Remy’s a nice name too” his voice was quite breathless & Remy smiked a little & was just gonna say something as Roman came laughing.
“Oh my gosh, guys! This is hilarious to watch!” Emile flushed up again & Remy just looked ar Roman in a “fuck off” kinda way.
“How long did you just listen, Ro?” Remy tried his best not to sound mad but he most certainly sounded bitchy af.
“Since ‘name, babe’” Roman laughed again & Remy’s eyes were almost burning now but instead of totally loosing his cool he made a deep sigh & started talking.
“SO! Mind telling me why you were soaked in ink” now Roman looked like he were gonna kill someone & Emile laughed. Such a beautiful laugh too?! Like was this guy even real?! An illusion? Probably.
“...it’s April 1st.. they were like ‘so Mike’s gonna get thrown into a pool of ink because of this & that’ & it made no sense & all of the sudden I was covered in ink!” Roman looked like he was about to explode & Remy threw his head back & laughed loudly. Emile laughed as well but he couldn’t help to feel a little sad. Obviously he knew Remy didn’t actually flirt with him but now it was certain, it was an April fools joke, obviously! That had to be it, right?
“I had totally forgot it was April fools! Oof, what a disappointment! I love fucking with people!” What Remy said didn’t just make Emile laugh but also shine up like the god damn su. He had forgotten April fools?! Maybe- no, don’t get your hopes up, Emile! He’s obviously just teasing you.
“Hmph, we know! What was it last year again? The ballpit in my living room? Or was that 2 years ago?”
“No, it was last year. Two years ago it was the squi-“
“DON’T FINISH THAT SENTENCE! I had suppressed that one” Remy laughed & kept talking.
“...the squid in your hair” he said as quickly as possible & Roman screamed.
“Remind me again why I’m friends with you?!”
“Because I’m awesome & both of us are famous” Roman hummed irritated.
“Yeah, sure, whatever” he said & returned to the set of the movie & shoot the door closed behind him, Remy & Emile looked at the door & was quiet for a couple of seconds before looking at each other & laughed out loud.

*Almost a year after their first meeting! They’ve met a bunch if times after the time in the trailer. Remy’s still trying to flirt with Emile who’s clearly interested but still thinks he’s only teasing*
“Hey, Remy!” Emile walked into Remy’s break room at the studio with one hand behind his back just as Remy’s break had started.
“Oh! Hey, babe, nice to see you! I’m so tired! I would do anything for” Emile started to talk so they finished the sentence together “a cup of coffee” as they said that Emile was taking his hand from behind his back to reveal a cup of Remy’s favourite coffee & Remy looked at him like he was a saint.
“Ho- h- how did yo-“ he couldn’t talk properly so instead he just took the cup out of Emile’s hand, put it on the table next to them, grabbed Emile’s face with both hands & kissed him deeply. Emile’s eyes widened but after a moment he closed his eyes & took a grip of Remy’s shoulders & pulled himself a little bit closer to Remy before yielding for a second to breath only to go back in one second later. They kept doing that for at least 5 minutes before Remy yielded. He panted satisfied before starting to talk.
“You- you’ve got NO IDEA for how long I’ve wanted to do that” his voice was breathless but hot & Emile looked at him with his head tilted for a moment before saying anything.
“Probably for just as long as I’ve wanted to do it” now Remy blushed for real. Usually he was good at holding it back but this guy was really too much for him. The condition Emile’s voice was in after that? It was raw & sexy. Remy didn’t really know what to do so he decided to just kiss Emile again.

A/N: And there’s some of Remy & Emile’s backstory! Yes, Remy got the little kick he needed to kiss Emile from him bringing him coffee. Also, no. No, Remy didn’t drink any coffee during that break. He ended up drinking the whole coffee at his way from the break room to the actual studio.

Wars in the Stars: The Elevation of Skywalker - thoughts
So, I’ve had more than 24 hours to think about Star Wars episode IX, The rise of Skywalker, and here are my thoughts (spoilery). I should also point out, I come here as a Star Wars noob, so be warned.
It’s a mess. But at the same time, I think it’s a visually stunning and emotional one. That doesn’t automatically make it good, but the more I think about it, overall balance of my reactions is positive. There are parts of this that will divide the audience, and they might go down in history as the next midi-chlorians, I kid you not. What I’m saying is, prepare for the shitstorm, Internet. Or rather Sith-storm...
The movie starts with a lot of exposition and catching-up. Unfortunately, this takes away some of the mystery - information about Palpatine is told right in the crawl, so it lost all the subtlety laugh from the trailer, and the pacing of the first act is ridiculous. That being said, I don’t think it’s bad, it drives you in, but from purely narrative standpoint, it could use an explanation.
Palpatine steals the show, again, and his story is clearly the most interesting, as it dives into the nature of Siths at whole. It turns out that Palpatine was indeed alive, he crawled back to a planet of the Siths, were - and here’s where the weird part begins - he set up a whole mad scientist lab to grow more siths, including Snoke. And build a new fleet of ENORMOUS destroyers, each equipped with death star cannon. He lures Kylo there, announcing that his Last Order will be destroying every Resistance planet in a day, and he needs to bring him Rey.
That leads me to question: where did Palpatine find time to build this enormous armada? Because, in the movie, it was shown almost as if he had poofed them out of shadows with some sick Sith magic. I guess it is true, you have a lot of time during the retirement...
And meanwhile, thanks to Kylo’s fight with Rey, we also learn of Rey’s lineage... because it turns out that she is.... DUMBLEDORE’S LONG-LOST BROTHER!
Wait, no, wrong movie.
She is... sigh.... Palpatine’s grandaughter.
Yeah, this subplot really disappointed me, as it invalidated the ENTIRE idea of Rey, as shown in FA and TLJ. She was supposed to be nobody from nowhere. The message that you can achieve greatness regardless of your birthright was amazing. And now, we know it was for nothing, because Rey is the opposite of Nobody. People were speculating she was Luke’s daughter, because they were desperately trying to validate her powers, as they were unable to accept that it can be just a random person. Are we gonna learn that this broomstick boy from the end of TLJ also has some connections? Maybe he’s count Dooku’s great-grandson? Or Yoda’s cousin twice removed?
At the same time, though, Palpatine’s plot really drawn me in, as it questioned whether Siths can die at frikking all. It looks more like they can keep amassing more and more power from killing each other, Highlander-style. At first, I thought that Palpatine having a son kinda contradicted the Sith’s rule of two, as it is pretty much guaranteed that the pupil will kill its teacher, but then I remembered that way back in the prequels, Palpatine was taunting Anakin to kill him, almost wishing to die. We learn that he created Snoke, purely so Kylo can destroy him. There was also the fan theory that it was Palpatine who created Anakin, and at this point, it is almost guaranteed that he did that. So it turns out that Palpatine was playing an insanely long game. Why? because she wants Rey to take the Sith throne.
Speaking of Kylo Ren, he gets a redemption arc he didn’t deserve IMHO. He does help Rey, but his previous actions speak much much louder, making him an angry neo-nazi edgelord. And what drags him to change? His mother, connecting with him via Force, kinda like Luke did in TLJ. This, btw, saps Leia of her life. So, yeah,a single “Ben” is enough to make him realise “Oh shit, I shouldn’t have turned right and create a neo-nazi empire. My bad.”
He does however, help Rey. In fact, he saves her life, just like she saved his before, utilising the healing powers we’ve seen in Mandalorian that was shown before its natural Saturday release window JUST so the writers can say “it’s been established!” (a whole 48 hours prior to that). And... after he brings her from the dead.... they kiss.
Yeah, not a fan of that either. I was oblivious to Reylo, as the protagonist/antagonist ships always happen, but I have to admit that their interactions, and joined actions, especially in TLJ kinda showed me why people like it... why would they overlook the fact that he, again, HAS A NEO-NAZI EMPIRE, is beyond me, though. Still, after they kiss, he dies, so, there’s that.
There were a lot of throwbacks to the original trilogy, which will undoubtedly make a lot of fans happy, and will make equal amount of them rage by raising another “it’s a ripoff” argument.
The humorous elements, though sparse, were great. I also loved the few interaction moments between Rey, Finn and Po, especially one quarrel they had, which kinda encapsulated their team relationship.
And I would lie if I said that the huge final battle didn’t make me smile. It was enormous, it was satisfying, it made me grip my seat’s arms, as the fat could switch at the very last second. It was Star Wars, plain and simple.
So, yeah, despite its many, many flaws I begrudgingly give it a thumbs-up, but it is damn close to the down one. Out of all of the three new sequels, this is certainly the weakest for me. Which is a shame, because as I said, it has raised a lot of very interesting ideas I wish were established or planned, and then developed earlier. Which is weird, given that now the movies are in the gloved-hands of a corporation that has...
Yeah, I had to add it. Again, Palpatine’s back, yo for his final performance, and he’s the best.

Yugioh Ep 35 S4: Raphael Joins the Pile of Dead Bodies
Ah 2020, thankfully we have one trashfire somewhat behind us, but I’m still avoiding social media for so many obvious reasons because of all the other trashfires that just never seem to stop burning, so lets talk about Yugioh with all of this newfound time.
Ah, card games. Card games that go on for 6-7 episodes. Lets see how they pad it out:
In a lot of ways, Roland really is just padding for the show, and that’s OK. He’s doing his best, by doing literally nothing but stand outside and check the time.
Inside the dusty soul chamber, Tristan has decided to do us the favor of recapping what happened last episode, which included the return of our four dead friends, so that they could die...again.
Seto’s reaction to seeing these dead people suddenly alive again was very “guys...I went nuts like years ago, I’m just going with it at this point.” and he’s still 100% positive that this is all a hologram and that no one will ever die.
Whatever it takes for Seto to get out of bed in the morning, I guess.

One of the big mechanics the game is that you need to stay level headed, or the Orichalcos just kind of slurps you up. This explains a little why Dartz is so freakin chill basically all of the time, just the Bob Ross of evil over there. It also is sort of funny because Pharaoh and Seto are the least chill people to have ever lived so he’s just kind of waiting it out to see whom between Seto and Kaiba gets the most angry first and completely botches it.
Yugi has to do literally nothing and for the first time in his life this is the right choice.
I’m so glad he gets to use his big brain move of “If I don’t play, no one dies!” from S1. Glad it came back to serve him for once instead of just make everyone else really annoyed.
Yugi just...not moving means it’s now Seto’s turn to put down some cards, and he kinda looks over at Pegasus and goes...well you know what’s gonna happen next.
I have no idea why he didn’t attack Pegasus. Like this episode is kind of weird because we got these flashbacks of Pegasus being like “you’re my only hope, Yugi!” and it’s like wtf, Pegasus trapped you on a murder island and tried to kill you multiple times. He abducted Mokuba and turned both the Kaiba brothers into cards.
yo did Seto and Pegasus get back together in between seasons or something? Was there a whole character development where these two have fun brunches in San Fransisco now? Because I would watch that anime. I would watch the anime where Seto and Pegasus are co-hosting Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, and just destroying every unsuspecting local restaurant they brunch in.
But are we just assuming that the eyeball did all that evil stuff from S1 and that otherwise Pegasus is a good person? Because like...he was a mess before he got possessed. He’s kind of a Yugi, he’s kind of a Bakura, he’s kind of a Marik...in that there’s a mess in that bean, and getting possesed just only amplified what was already there.
So, with his smug as hell grin, Seto surprises Dartz by only barely getting affected by this inescapable moral dilemma and Seto just very quickly deciding to do a murder. And then we get a little blimp throwback to S2 (S3? I don’t even remember at this point, since we’ve been stuck in S4 for an entire year. Thanks 2020.)
If blocking the shot when Marik did it in S3 or S2 or whenever that was, didn’t get Mai to like Joey, then it shouldn’t work if you do it a second time.
But hey, I guess it’s better than letting her perma-die. Although this show desperately needs to figure out how to use Mai if they’re gonna keep her around, youknow?
Like all ships are fine and valid here, ship whatever you want to your hearts content: I don’t ship at all, as you know, but I hope one day they give Mai a personality that is consistently likeable. I do want to like her because she’s like...good at what she does when she plays cards and can be that can be a fun “hey I’m a girl but I’m not a freakin ‘gamer girl’ you male chauvinist assholes” type of character. But, the show just...the show doesn’t know what they want outside of a little romantic tension that they legally can’t follow through because of a 5-6 year age gap with a teenager.
This show actively tries to destroy this ship, and then turns around and is like “oh shoot this ship is all we have.” This show tries to lift up Mai as a feminist icon one season, and then tears her down for being “too” feminist the next season when she decides to--youknow--kill Joey Wheeler because he made her feel weak or something when he saved her life.
Like the show does a lot to explore weakness and strength, and how what we see as weakness is actually strength, and how what we tend to attribute as strengths is actually weakness, and how our modern career/school/success expectations set us up for failure, but I think they explored that way better with Seto than they ever did with Mai.
Could’ve been cool Mai, you could’ve been cool.
Anyhoo, that was my spicy commentary on a 10+ year old anime, good to get it off my chest.
Seto and Yami have the typical problem they have whenever they play cards together, where one goes completely rogue. Except this time, the one going rogue isn’t Seto, it’s Yami. He’s just like...I’ll make life for Seto very difficult and I will lose this game and I don’t even mind because I’m already dead, deal with it.
So honestly this is an episode where it’s just Seto demanding we kill a bastard, and Yami being like “but not THAT bastard” and Seto just shrugging and saying “I have to kill A bastard, Yugi! Just CHOOSE one!”
That actual line in the show (I forget what it was exactly) does infer that Seto thinks Joey holds him back, and that implication speaks miles about Seto’s insecurities.
HOW THOUGH..........what are you jealous of, Seto?
You’re better at cards than he is, he’s never beat you at anything. It’s not about who’s best friends with Yugi because...Yugi’s possessed so Yami is always going to take first place...
......so what could it possibly BE?
Seto doesn’t attend school anymore, is it about that? Is it because Joey is likeable? Is it because Joey pretends he has a much older girlfriend? I mean hypothetically, Blue Eyes White Dragon is WAY older than Mai so...that can’t be it.
.....what IS it???
Does the “friendship” he have with Joey make Seto too soft? Is that what’s holding him back? Because Seto doesn’t actually think he’s friends with these people and says that Yugi and co are “Mokuba’s friends” so like....
.....what are you talking about, Seto???
Is it because you’re addicted to cards again? Because that’s...sort of Joey’s fault because he was the one who told you he needed a ride to Jacksonville, and then let slip that the “King of Games” title was up for grabs, is that it?
Are you just tired of Joey asking you for a ride?
Not like it matters, because Joey survives, and Seto gets to feel like a complete asshole about it.
As Raphael (who is this purple blur here) motorcycles into the dome of souls, Rolands last words were
“You can’t go in there!”
which was the weirdest thing to say to a guy you just saw fall down a 50 story building a few hours ago. Raphael not being dead should be the thing Roland fixates on, but instead he’s seen so many people die and come back to life, that he’s only concerned that Raphael will get in trouble for trespassing.
Again, Roland is the only Kaiba that hasn’t died yet, and it’s because he’s the only Kaiba that hasn’t broken the law.
Dude. What if the reason Roland is standing outside is because he’s been politely looking for the doorbell to be let in?
...the players asking for death...like clockwork...and me asking for the end of this freakin game...we played...1 turn this episode...
This episode was 1 turn!
And you may ask...well what else could possibly happen to stretch this out and well...
Raphael dives in on a motorcycle to save the day. Which is an aesthetic, by the way, this huge man covered in like a dozen belts, doing a wheelie jump into a chasm of 1 million souls. that’s an aesthetic.
So he shows up, gets off his bike and I was like “Oh good, someone to maybe save Yugi saving Joey saving Mai?” And instead, I was...not given that.
Mostly Raphael is here because he ALSO wants to kill Dartz, and is like “can I join? I know you’ve only played like 1 round, just deal me a new hand, it’ll be fine.” and it’s like...we already played the Orichalcos Raphael, this is not a game of Uno, you cannot just jump in.
Dartz is sort of obsessed with how everyone around him has potential for evil except for him, the chillest human to ever be born, and I gotta say...when he’s in this room...Dartz has a point.
+++++++++++++RANT ABOUT BEING PERFECT FEEL FREE TO SKIP++++++++++++++
It is sort of nice to have the concept of an older generation (in this case 10,000 years older) fighting with a younger generation. To have the older, more typically wiser generation say “Listen, I kinda screwed the planet and the war economy and the prison system...and I’m gonna keep doing that...and you can’t stop me because you’re a bunch of hypocritical dumbasses.” and then the younger generation say. “We don’t care if we’re a mess, dude. We aren’t the problem here.”
I may be putting some recent topical STUFF into this mold here, but it is a nice little analogy that they made even someone who is such a human disaster as Yami and Seto “morally good” enough to fight Dartz. You don’t have to be a perfect Harvard Grad to fight the system, you don’t have to be an entirely problematic-free savior, you can be even as problematic as Seto Kaiba--just get rid of the dumb assholes trying to destroy the world. That’s all.
Like this concept is strangely prescient because in 2020 we’re in a weird time period where if you aren’t perfect, you’re not allowed to have opinions. You’re not allowed to make content. You’re not allowed to make change. This is mostly an online problem in places like twitter, but it’s a real problem--because in the end what you’re left with is no one that wants to step up to the plate because they know that they, too, are flawed.
And like not even just as a political thing, even as a creator, as an artist, I see this problem more and more with kids. Kids who are like “I am afraid to draw because what if I do it wrong and I get dragged on twitter years later?” or “I want to make a story, but I’m afraid to get cancelled because my fantasy story has problematic stuff in it? Am a bad person for wanting to write it?” And it’s like...what are we doing to young creators right now? Did we all fail humanities? How have we failed art and literature SO badly that we’ve come to this point that people are too afraid to even learn how to do it right?
Anyway that was a tangent, but like...you see the similarities, right? That if you really were as perfect as Dartz either politically or creatively, you’d be a freakin monster and would probably just tear down everyone else around you on twitter rather than lift other people up. It’s a stretch but eh, it’s been a while since I went on a good Yugioh tangent and like

So it’s at this point that Dartz turns to Raphael is like “I mean...we weren’t really doing anything else, and Yugi and Yami are playing so slowly...I guess I have time to bust your nuts” and decides to bust his nuts.
Oh hey, I was right.
And yeah, that’s still effed up. Dartz killed his Raphael’s family, left him on an island, and then adopted him later after forcing him to dig up their graves. Like...Raphael, that’s effed up.
He also did the same thing to everyone else (and for Valon he just kinda glazed over that really fast because we had to edit his backstory out of the English version)
PS at this part Mokuba started sweating bullets and Tea leaned over and was like “Is this true, Mokuba?”
And Mokuba was like “...yes.”
Because, I don’t think Mokuba can keep any secret from Tea. Like for reals, Tea may be the most dangerous thing to all of KaibaCorp if she wasn’t so distracted by Yami’s endless string of problems. Mokuba is constantly telling them all of Seto’s deepest darkest secrets and there is like nothing Seto can do about it.
The animation of Gozaburo turning into a beautiful Dartz was just a simple fade to white, but man--imagine if they had dome some crazy effed up animation where Gozaburo just whips back his head and he has ass length blue hair and long, luscious lashes?
Imagine.
Anyway, this was enough for Raphael, who was already our most gullible and unstable person on this show, to just flip that switch and go lime green like all those other minibosses before him.
Really glad we built up Raphael for him to just die at the door hahaha.
That was so freakin random.
OK then. Thanks for nothing, Raphael.
I guess we go to the next episode to see if we finally play another turn? We can hope for good things. But if we don’t play a full turn I will NOT be surprised.

The existence of Hydra High was inexplicably funny for me. Well, before they had them murder dogs and forced Hale to have a child. Like, WE GET THAT HYDRA IS EVIL, YOU DIDN’T NEED TO KILL PUPPIES. At least Ruby’s dog got to live.
The flashback made me actually feel bad for Hale. Especially that the actress reminded me of agent Sympathy from The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. It was also nice to see Whitehall again. Well, not nice per se, but it was a nice throwback. Also, SITWELL! I knew it was him the moment they showed him.
I love Talbot and his stupid mustache, so it was both amazing and painful seeing him there. He was hilarious as always, but seeing him so broken hurt me. Please, save that man and send him back to his family. Oh, and for some reason I noticed for the first time that GENERAL TALBOT IS NATHAN PETRELLI FROM HEROES. How the hell hadn’t I seen that before? I looked him up and he has also voiced Cap, Iron Man and Hawkeye.
Coulson was at his most Coulsonest this episode. I love the man. I don’t want want to see him die. I’m ready to sacrifice the Earth for seeing him alive. Don’t judge me.
I was actually on board with SHIELD/HYDRA love story until, of course, Hale mentioned the Destroyer of Worlds. Lady, I don’t get it. You communicate with aliens, you lead an organization whose founder is a tentacle monster, but you draw the line at time travel? I know that you’ve been deprived of agency, that you were belittled and held back, all the while knowing you could do more, be more, I have some sympathy for you, but c’mon, be reasonable and listen to Coulson. The planet’s future is at stake.
For all the talk of MCU shows drawing further from the movie verse, there were quite a lot of callbacks to it. We had von Strucker, Sitwell, Steve Rogers/Cap namedrop (twice), Earth’s Mightiest Heroes mention. A few episodes back Tony Stark also got a mention. What I’m saying is #GiveCaptainAmericaACameo
Back to the Lighthouse, Daisy seems to be coping with the trauma better than I expected. Also, Hale Hydra? Never expected them to actually make the joke. I love Daisy.
For a moment, I didn’t get who May was talking about when she said they got a supervillain. Then I was like ‘oh fuck, it’s Fitz’. Fitz, baby, I love you, but try to look more sympathetic. I can accept that you don’t regret what you’ve done, but maybe show more that you regret how you’ve done it.
The fight between Daisy and Fitz is killing me, but I’m a sucker for drama, so I’m also kinda enjoying it. Not sure if I like Daisy rushing off to bring Robin to the Lighthouse. I feel like they’re doing exactly the same things they did every loop.
I’m happy to see Simmons-Fitz is strong, but I’m really scared about Jemma’s declaration that they’re invincible. Same goes for Yo-Yo. Ladies, you’re actually trying to break the loop, so if you succeed in it, NO ONE IS INVINCIBLE.
Fitz’s reaction to Deke being his grandson was a much needed laugh after some pretty heavy scenes. C’mon, Fitz, be nicer to your grandson. He’s adorable. And he was much missed this episode.
On the whole, the episode was pretty good, moved the plot forward and flew by too quickly.

Well, here it is, the second-last AM before a multi-week hiatus. These blurbs are usually pretty interchangeable, which is something that’s started to worry me a little—if the blurbs are interchangeable, the shows themselves might be interchangeable, and if the shows are interchangeable, then isn’t that doing a disservice to the music?
At the same time, it takes a ton of time and energy to put the show together as it is, and as much as I want to add insightful commentary about the music here, I’ve found when I get around to typing these up as the last part of putting the show out into the world, I just don’t have the time it takes to write something insightful and personal. It’s a shame, but it’s true, and is a challenge that comes from taking on the show as a volunteer gig.
Those are some of the things I’m going to be thinking about while I’m on break. A month should be a really nice distance, which should help with figuring out what parts of this show and this process are worth keeping and what needs to change. All that said, there’s a lot of great stuff. Hearing Yo La Tengo at their most informal, just filling a room with sound to keep the world at bay is a pretty magical thing. Thomas Gray and Liam Ebbs blew me away last year with their gentle electronic wizardry, and their latest album might just live up to its ambitious title—listening to it is not unlike recalling something beautiful. There are a few gems I missed from last year—the politically charged but joyful “The Colors that You Bring” from Chicago artist Damon Locks’ Black Monument Ensemble, the somewhere-between-jazz-and-post-rock Ghost Socks, which opens up the episode. There’s new music from Thanya Iyer and from Cedric Noel, two of the most intriguing, thoughtful and spirit-stirring Canadian songwriters to emerge in a long while. And I could get lost in the bassline on the first of the 8:30 Throwbacks for hours; the way it finds a connective tissue between pastoral British indie and chilly post-punk is absolutely hypnotic. There’s plenty to enjoy, so... enjoy it, and I’ll be back next week for one more go-round this summer.
