#trans people are people
Text
Rest in Power, Nex Benedict
A 16 year old kid who loved nature and looking after their cat Zeus. Who enjoyed reading, watching the Walking Dead, and playing Ark and Minecraft. They loved to cook and would often make up their own recipes. They did well in school, being a straight-A student. Rest in power a teen who was human and had interests and ambitions and challenges and friendships. A trans youth who was brutally murdered just for being trans, when that was only a fragment of who they were as a person.
Nex Benedict, Jacob Williamson, Brianna Ghey, and other trans youth like them were real people with real lives. They deserved better, longer, happier lives. They deserved to grow up and not fear for their lives. They deserve to be remembered as who they were, not just as another trans kid who was killed, as people with families and normal human lives.

It’s so crazy how respectful some media from the 80’s and even before was in portraying the existence of trans people, even before we got the more modern terminology. Just insane to me that some people back then could figure it out even before the internet yet people now can’t. This was 1985, everyone. The Dirty Pair anime said "trans rights!"

James Somerton is a misogynist piece of shit, but the way he speaks about lesbians is an infuriating betrayal of the queer community.
Legally, lesbians were and are treated on the same level of bad as gay men. Gay panic doesn't and has never excluded them, same as convertion therapy, same as anti-sodomy laws, same as police brutality, and many more I could mention.
And socially? Women as a whole are already persecuted, so add homophobia to the mix, and I doubt that'd lead to less discrimination than what gay men suffer from. And that's not even getting into how shittily trans lesbians are treated
But frankly, we all know why he said that. The section where he misgenders Nate Stevenson and Rebecca Sugar and throws them under the bus really says it all: it's because, in his fucked up mind twisted by misogyny, there was more "lesbian representation" in media.
The kind of representation where they're demonized, dehumanized, and erased, where their deaths and hardships are treated shallowly and without a hundredth of the compassion spared for their straight leads, where they're fetishized and objectified for the sole eyes of straight men, sometimes all of the above at the same time.
Fuck this guy.

Soooooo back when the first Indy Ref was going on, I was a English person, living in England. My spouse and I were in Scotland for the Fringe, visiting a friend, and we saw a *lot* of shows, talks, plays, and political panels about the ref (the Fringe isn’t just comedy, but the comedy that year was gold!) It seemed like a done deal. I was delighted for Scotland to be getting away from England.
When the vote came in and a Scotland had decided to stay in the union I was FLABBERGASTED. It made no sense to me, tho I’ve since learned a lot of Scottish people were told they’d lose access to EU is the left the UK (ha bloody ha). Even back then, it was obvious what England was turning into, and the long term effects of Tory austerity was going to be. People were already dying as a result of the disgusting DWP and wider government policies.
Brexit wasn’t even on the horizon.
Now, in 2023, I live in Scotland. I watched Westminster say that Scotland couldn’t have a 2nd referendum, and the High Court back that decision. Now I’m watching Westminster highjack a Scottish law, passed by a Scottish cross-party majority, and try to dismantle it.
And OFC it’s a law that might actually make the lives of trans and non-binary people just that little bit better, that little bit easier. Because hey, let’s kick the vulnerable when they’re vulnerable - the unspoken motto of right wing bigots of the world. There’s a reason the Tories are called the Tories, after all.
God I hope they’ve overreached themselves this time. That for once they’ve fucked up so badly they might actually lose - not just in the polls (though that too, please); but in the very centre of them: Their gross ideologically driven culture war, their always successful divide and conquer strategy, their precious ‘empire’ and ‘union’, their fucking entitlement to just ride roughshod over people - always the people who have the least chance of fighting back - to get what they want.
Scottish independence cannot come fast enough. Bring. It. On. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏳️‍⚧️

I know it has been said before but-
I would much rather share a restroom with a trans woman than a bigot.
Not just because of the fact that I support trans women and I don't like bigots but because of this:
If I were to engage in conversation with both of these people and tell them that I support LGBTQIA+ people, one of them would be happy with that, maybe even grateful that I told them that so that they would feel safer. The other would look me dead in the eyes and, for the whole world to see, say that they would just as gleefully shoot me dead as they would be to find a sale on their favorite clothing/attire.
If I said to both of them that I were to support bigoted concepts and Ideals one of them would be slightly put off or uncomfortable at most, while the other would treat me like a comrade.
The difference is that one would love me at best, and be put off by me at worst. While the other would like me at best, and kill me at worst.
I know which one I would feel much safer with.
Trans women. Trans ANYBODY. I love you, and I'm so glad that when I'm around you I don't feel like my life is at stake, even for a moment.

I am so genuinely disappointed right now. Calcium Cat was one of my introductions into the world of Ao3. For someone who so openly supported trans creators this is a surprise. I'm glad they are not being two faced anymore and that they are able to own up to their bigotry. TO anyone who reads OSD (One Small Dream), I ask that you take a look at the situation. Calcium Cat is not just passively being transphobic but they are actively liking and supporting people on Twitter (X) such as Matt Walsh. This is not okay, and I just can't in good conscious support them anymore. I understand they have their own religious beliefs but hiding behind religion to be a bigot is never okay. Ever. I apologize for the bad quality screenshot, they disabled comments and re-blogs after they started getting backlash. If by any chance you see this post and are a reader or supporter of OSD I ask that you do your own research and consider stopping supporting Calcium Cat.

TW: Nex Benedict, child death, implied past suicidal thoughts, Transphobia, hate crime, murder, ect.
I keep thinking about Nex, I didn’ t know them but I wish I could’ve had the chance even though we lived half way around the world from each other. It’s crazy for me to miss someone I never knew, but I do. They had a cat named Zeus and loved minecraft and reading. I think we would’ve gotten along.
It makes me sad, but mostly it makes me angry… and honestly scared. Nex was 16. I’m 16. I could just as easily be beaten to death in a bathroom, even though my peers aren’t violent nor care enough about me to say or do anything. It just makes me feel so upset, that this kid only got to live out 16 years of their life. It was just starting, and it was stolen.
And I just keep thinking about how I don’t want to die by my own hand or anyone else’s because of who I am.
I want justice, and I want freedom. I want there to be a time where kids won’t have to get killed for people to even realise how much of an issue all this is.
I’m not going to forget you, Nex.
rest in peace, and rest in power ❤️
I've been feeling very much the same way. When I heard about what happened to Nex, it affected me quite a lot. They were killed at only 16 just for being themself, and their family didn't even use their real name.
I live in the UK, but that doesn't make it any less terrifying as similar things have happened here. I don't think that myself or other trans youth should have to worry that they might be attacked or killed for being themselves. I don't ever want a trans kid's real name to be forgotten.
Nex loved cats like me. They were non binary and native american, and we will never forget their name. Rest in power, Nex.

There’s no such thing as a trans person. That’s just a mentally ill person who cut off their genitals
"A mentally ill person who cut off...genitals" Interesting. Tell me...when a conservative culture performs female genital mutilation on their own people? Or performs castration on men they deem as "inferior" or "slaves"... Is that "mentally ill" in your opinion?
By your standards, there's several billion people on this ageless planet that would be considered "mentally ill", but I guess you won't count them?
You know what I PERSONALLY consider to be "mentally ill?"
People who do stuff like this!
Tumblr media
You'll notice there was no confirmation whether or not the woman was actually transgender, just that the cashier had an image in his mind of what he thought the woman was, and acted on it with no regard to others....acting on prejudice.
Now let me show you a lovely writing about Trans people by Liam Konemann "The Appendix: Transmasculine Joy in a Transphobic Culture"
Tumblr media
I wonder, are you aware of Human Growth Hormone and Estrogen? I would politely ask that you research both, but I assume its far easier to hold prejudice against something you are neither willing to understand nor able to control.
I'm autistic...I have been called a freak of nature, a disgrace to humanity, and an abomination...by my own family members. The Trans community? Showed me more love, tolerance, and acceptance than my OWN FATHER AND SIBLINGS.
Trans rights are human rights, because Trans People ARE PEOPLE!
So here is what I have to say to an intolerant transphobe like you!

TERFs suck because not only are they extremely horrible to trans girls and women they are extremely horrible to just average men.
Feminism is not about hurting men or calling men gross disgusting degenerates who only care about sex and who are filthy slobs. Feminism is about saying girls are just as good as guys and no one is better every one deserves equal rights.
I’m a trans masculine person and I love my masculinity and I am freinds with a trans masc who’s a young teen and a trans man who's about to be an adult and a cis boy and seeing the ways we all experience masculinity differently is beautiful. There is nothing wrong with being a man.
Me and my friends all experience masculinity differently but it is beautiful in every way. TERF ideology circles back around to exactly what it wants to free women from. Because it says all men are bad cause the have penis’s which makes them evil. And all women are oppressed and can’t do anything and get to hurt people because of it cause they have vaginas. And that is bs all around. If you’re a guy and you continue the vicious cycle of putting women down you’re a bad person not just a bad man.
AND IF YOURE SAYING BEING A WOMAN IS HAVING A VAGINA AND BEING ABLE TO MAKE BABIES AND BEING OPRESSED YOURE ALSO A SHITTY PERSON. Just cause you’re a woman that doesn’t exclude you from being misogynistic which TERFs are.
This has been my Ted talk.

"I just don't want trans people hitting on me!" My sibling in Christ, you know you can just say "no thank you" or "no I'm not interested" like you can when a cis person whom you're not into hits on you, right? Right?

I am starting to feel progressively more unsafe on this site. If the ceo is nuking trans people for no apparent reason, then am I next? I've been growing scared to post trans content, because I love this site and the friends I made and I don't want my account to get nuked. This isn't a safe community until this ends. I shouldn't have to be scared or repressed because of the staff. I shouldn't have to fear that I'll be silenced for no reason other than that I was. This website is supposed to be a safe space. This website is supposed to be a break from the homophobia, and TERFS, and the fascists. This website is supposed to be a welcoming home for the minorities and the people who face prejudice everywhere else. I should not have to feel fear when I express who I am. This is a problem that originates deep in the moderation, and if the mod staff continue to pretend they're not at fault, then they are actively not only enabling, but ensuring that this website becomes an unsafe space for the lgbtqia+ community.
Behind every account they nuke for false reasons is a person. A person who is experiencing misogyny from the very ceo of this website. A person who thought they were in a safe space. A person who now no longer has that safe space. A person who has had their rights violated. A person who is facing harassment. A person with emotions, and an identity, and feelings. A person who has struggled against prejudice from society for who they are. A person the ceo of this website is actively choosing to hurt, to turn a blind eye against. A human being, just like everyone else. So what about them makes them different? What about them intimidates you? What about them makes you decide that you don't want them here? that they don't deserve their identity? If you can't handle the fact that they're different, that they are brave enough to come out to society, to be who they are, far braver than you, then you are a coward. You are the problem. Hide behind your little ban hammer, and live in fear of the ones who enjoy being who they are.

One day I'll figure out why there is such an overlap in trans people and communists, more so than in other queer people. What's making this demographic more susceptible to commie propaganda than other groups? And, more importantly, why they especially not interested in showing solidarity to post commie countries trans people but are very interested in gaslighting them that actually it was so good for them in USSR?
But alas I'm not a sociologist.
