okay heres a list of reasons why regulily makes sense bc i love them so much but every time i talk abt them on any platform other than tumblr ppl are like “ew, regulily is gross” like yall just dont get them the way i do 😤

we know that regulus wasnt like the rest of his family. most purebloods think of house elves as vermin, below even the lowest of wizards, but regulus was kind to them, kinder than he was to most other wizards. he was good at masking to put on that pureblood facade, though, but lily, well, she could see right through it. she was, afterall, “an uncommonly kind person with a habit of seeing the best in others, even when they could not see it themselves”

do yall seriously think that lily evans would have been put off by regulus’ standoffish slytherin demeanor? the woman was best friends with the most standoffish slytherin to ever slytherin. she was one of the few gryffindors who actively befriended slytherins and she likely would have defended regulus against sirius if he ever spoke badly about him in her vicinity, even if they werent friends. thats just the kind of person she is (and we love her all the better for it)

regulus and lily both had complicated relationships with their siblings. both of them were the younger sibling, and both of them were also the sibling preferred by their parents. regulus would understand the grief lily felt over the loss of her close relationship with petunia and lily would understand the betrayed bitterness regulus felt over sirius being happier without him in a way that no one else could. theyd see each other more deeply than anyone else

now ive seen some people (mostly og marauders fans that dislike regulus) say that it makes no sense bc they were on opposite sides of the war at first, but regulus is one of the few death eaters we know of that canonically defected. he literally sacrificed himself trying to stop voldemort, knowing that he would die but accepting it on the off chance that his efforts would eventually help end the war. to act like he was evil is just stupid

and lastly, ive seen some version of “regulily makes no sense! regulus and lily are both gay!” repeated ad nauseam and, well, my question to you is… why cant they be gay together? why limit yourself to the canon cishet normativity when you can have them be bi4bi, or t4t, or nonbinary lesbians, or any other queer relationship you can imagine? like, my personal fav regulily dynamic is lesbian lily and trans girl reg. the options are literally endless. go wild! live out your gay dreams to your hearts content! no one is stopping you!

my remus hcs :)

he’s hyperlexic, he learned to read and talk really really young by copying sounds around him (echolalia) and associating them to the written language

he’s trans :((( it’s one of the many reasons he and reg bonded so well in like third / fourth year (in an au where canon is… well… nothing)

has the worst daddy issues on the planet, like idk but if my dad locked me in a freezer every for hours durinf my most vulnerable nights i’d definitely feel the same-

he wears armbands starting third year and Never takes them off, his excuse being “it’s a fashion statement”

lowk needs glasses but will never fucking admit it or get his eyes checked, he's always Squinting while reading and ends up getting headaches

refuses pain meds because he's built tolerance and is afraid to for other meds

his eyes display so much emotion, and they're often covered by his hair (cute little sandy ringlets) the moment he's sad or embarrassed or uncomfortable you can tell by his eyes

so insecure of his scars he's constantly trying to hide them

when he gets the big scars across his face in fourth year, he stops looking at people while talking, he always finds a way to seem busy or distracted, but he just can't get himself to keep looking, he can't let them stare

his hugs were just as warm as those fucking jumpers he always had on. he Hates physical touch, mostly from trauma, but if you're a close friend and manage to get a hug from him you will become an addict.

he will never buy anything his size, always larger. even if he's constantly wearing a binder, he doesn't think its enough. in summer its oversized tees and armbands, in winter its jumpers

so unnecessarily sarcastic it's hilarious. he will Always have a retort ready, count on it

he's constantly biting his lips and making them bleed, and it gets far worse when he's anxious

uses baby perfume (zwitsal) so he always just smells clean and soapy rather than a signature cologne scent (because transphobic parents and he couldn't ever get himself to put on "feminine" scents, he's cry for hours and have to shower, but could never get cologne, so... middle ground)

he drinks his coffee with so much milk and sugar you quesrion if you could even count it as coffee at that point

adores drinking tea before bed, a habit he built after effie woukd make him her chamomile tea for his stomach aches when he’d stay over in the summer, and irs just so much better in the winter

has so many freckles, like everywhere. thehre so concentrated on his shoulders

cant see himself ever ruining a book by bending its pages and breaking the spine (yes he annotates and people think he’s writing down incredibly intellectual things when most his annotations are just him calling characters gay) but is disappointed when his books don’t look worn out when he’s done reading them

is Always wearing socks, you’ll never catch this man without them, and Yes he sleeps in socks

always wearing a million layers, he gets cold so fast irs hilarious

What are your favorite Genshin Friendship-Ships?

i feel like this fandom focuses heavy on romantic shipping, but there are so many good canon and fanon friendships!!! there are so many fun buddies and besties in this game!! I’ll go first:

Fischl & Bennet

Bennet mentions that they hang out/know each other during his hangout event and i find the concept of them being buddies (but fischl REFUSING to go adventuring with him) to be so fun and silly. Absolutely insane goth girl going through her Middle School phase. Absolute disaster boy who still manages to be a ray of sunshine. very black cat with golden retriever who will NOT go away and fischl pretends not to care but she really values his company and the fact that he doesn’t treat her like a weirdo for being herself, and HE appreciates that she doesn’t mind that its always raining when he’s around. also they are both trans and take hrt together TEEHEE

Hu Tao & Xin Yan & Xiangling

PYRO GIRL GANG. MENACES TO SOCIETY. THEY GO SHOPPING AND GET BRUNCH TOGETHER A LOT. They are a problem Always, but rotate out who is being the biggest nuisance on the reg. Xiangling is typically the most well behaved, but any time food gets involved all bets are off. Very powerpuff girls, these three. When xiangling and xin yan come to visit hu tao at work, zhongli clocks out early

Beidou & Kazuha

okay i low key also ship them romantically but the idea of their friendship is SO GOOD. “Hey bestie, im wanted for crimes and terrorism rn, can i crash on your couch?” “yeah sure no prob dude” I LOVE THEM LOL. Everyone on the crew thinks they’re sleeping together because kazuha bunks with her, NOPE. they are up late painting each others nails. She is complaining about ninguang and how she doesn’t know if she’s Actually 💅🏾🏳️‍🌈 and kazuha is like wow! lesbians really are useless at romance! cuz beidou are u like. blind. They have fun, she keeps him around cuz he’s funny and has a good heart and quite frankly sometimes she needs a Vibe Check and no one will call you out like a best friend. He loves traveling with her, obvs. Even when offered a job by the shogunate he chose to stay on the ship and i refuse to believe ‘i would miss gossiping with Beidou :(‘ wasn’t part of that decision.

A humble request to jegulus writers:-

#1 Most time jegulus fic is accompained by secondary pairings. My question is why make every couple homosexual. I mean I am all for promoting queers and trans. But out of all the 10-12 people you are showing, not even 2-3 couple are of opposite sex. Why??? Why always the same couple in all the fic. It has become too much predictable and boring.

#2 I will begin this by saying that Sirius is no way wrong for running away. But if you show that reg was really that much affected by it so how could you make it like they are friends once again. Traumas like this take real time. Sometime years. And that is not for the sake of not trying or lack of understanding. Just because reg accepts that sirius had to leave does not mean his feelings are wrong of resentment towards his brother. But every writer make that pain erase with just one hug or within the span of a couple of weeks.

I humbly request all the talented writers out there to depict variety. For example that despite being understanding and forgiving they are not super close. They cannot bridge that gap despite being in terms with the other persons reasons. That things are always awkward and a little uncomfortable.

#3 Also the whole wizard war theme is based on prejudice. If say someone says a slur to muggleborn then they are hated by this do gooder group. But then what happens with just saying people like regulus, who are shown to be deep down closeted muggle lovers, are bullied for reason not so big but for their sorting. If being prejudiced is so wrong then make them grovel this time.

#4 Also why always pair with wolfstar. Variations are always welcomed. Sometime make Sirius as aroace. Othertime make him stright. Also he could be queer and also not have feelings for his best friend. That is also okay and not too much big of earth shattering news.

#5 Sometime we are shown that James was secretly dating regulus then R got into death eating business then J jumped ship and got together with lily, had a baby, then R miraculously saves the day by either ending the war or bringing them the key info to end it. Then we are asked to believe the these two people who have the audacity to have a kid in the middle of a war in which they are active soldiers are not even that much into each other. They are just co parent. Seems illogical. This is all to bring Harry into picture. And then Regulus with absolutely no self respect decides to again be in relationship with this guy who within the span of a year of their break up had knocked up the girl he used had crush on.

Poor reg only has James Potter to fall on. And make his life good. 🥲

#6 All friends of James end up being super cosy and loving with all friends of regulus. Cheesy much. And I am not even talking about fluffy fics. No angsty fics too have everyone becoming a big happy family in the end.

#7 Making walburga and orion use crucio and imperio. Like why do you need to go into deep end of abuse. Just simple hex is also abuse. And wrong.

It is really funny that reg and sirius did not end up becoming like Alice and frank from canon with the amount of liberty you writers take on using the crucio.

#8 Making Remus and Lily as the shiny example of all good people in the world. It gest boring pretty fast. Let them be vilian sometimes.

No but They are the smartest, they are the most emotionally intelligent, they are the most understanding, they are the one who do not make mistake, if they do mistake it is forgiven quite quickly as compared to the mistakes of reg, sirius and James.

#9 Lily is declining James because she is lesbian or is bisexual but has hots for another 'girl'. Again repetitive much. Can't she be straight and still rejecting James. Can't she have feelings for a 'guy' and not into James. Can't she decide to not enter in a relationship without being aroace.

#10 In canon we see that at the end marauders were a pretty shakable group with betrayal, guilt, trust issues, or simply loosing touch with each other. But all fics with this pairing paint them as super close except for Peter sometimes. I mean it would be good to show them drifting apart and that angst of knowing that they will never be the same. That the good old school days are over and they are not as unbeatable as they assumed. Let them sometimes drift apart forever.

Why is there need for showing physical abuse and sexual assault and horcrux drama for angst? When you can have them normal people with normal suffering. Why make it all picture perfect in the end???.

#11 Sometime you can use pandora or dorcas or marlene or Mary to be surrogate and regulus being the biological father. Why does it always have to be James and Lily birthing harry. Again done too many times.

#12 Another idea that I want to see in the form of story is if regulus and group are really killing voldy then wouldn't it be fun to see the reaction of the goody people when these so cold evil snakes are hailed as heros of the wizarding world. Like-

Like sirius being jealous of regulus becoming hero when he and his friends were supposedly on the good side. Instead of him being always proud of his brother in all the fics.

Or permanent break up of wolfstar because they didn't trust each other. And them getting (happily) settled with someone else and being okay that they didn't work out and happy for each other.

And James watching regulus getting into relationship with some other guy and wishing that he had seen past the tattoo on his arm and not rushed into marrying Lily and having a kid because now they are fighting all the time but still remain married for the sake of their kid but has to see regulus in newspaper finally getting settled with someone who will choose him first and foremost and whose love is not so pitiful as to jump into someone else's arm so quickly and not even mourning their relationship as if he was nothing.

And Dorcas regretting giving up on her friends who won't accept her apology.

You get what I am saying. I hope.

#12 James parents took sirius because the kid for their kids bestie. But that does not mean they have like opened an orphanage. They will treat the group as friends of son. They will jot go out of the limb to be too sweet to be all the kids. That is practically not how I imagine pureblood parents to be. Even the potters.

Again this is just a request from a reader and constructive criticism and a plea to bring something new on the table. Because this much repetition is seen in no other pairing. Just Jegulus!!

ok sorry this took me forever to answer i got a little too into it, so here we go

delete any three characters

oooo this is a spicy one. i’m assuming this means delete them from canon and replace them with my own image? because i already do whatever i want here.

first is absolutely regulus because he would fuck the entire story up. and i love that for him. my reggie, who would find a way to band together with all of his friends and fight their own side of the war away from moldy and dumbly, who would burn the world down for each and every one of them and his brother and james, who got along with the gryffindors and hexed anybody who dared challenge him about it. regulus who’s trans and gay and depressed and dealing with it like a champ. who can get the entirety of hogwarts under his thumb with one outfit because he’s just that beautiful and that powerful. regulus who whittles baby animals for james in secret, who is a god at quidditch and always catches the snitch because he’s just that good, who joined frog choir initially because his mother made him but turned it into something for himself and never left even once he ran away. regulus who is just me in a different font because i said so. i may have gotten a little carried away with the headcanons here. but regulus is my best friend, the love of my life, my baby, my child, i love him okay?

second. hmmmm. i think i’m gonna have to go with barty. now there isn’t really any canon on him before he became a death eater anyway, so it wouldn’t so much be removing him and replacing him as much as adding in nonexistent content. i would mainly just be adding in the widely accepted fanon content: slytherin skittles, rosekiller, barty being a little menace who would kill for his friends no hesitation, etc. i’d make his gay awakening xeno idc. and then from there there’s two directions to go. there’s: let him live out his happy little life with his friends that’s not so happy because they’re fighting in a way but at least they’re together. and there’s: reg and evan die and barty goes crazy and turns into canon barty. i like both versions, even both at the same time tbh, but in the first one i think pandora and dorcas would help keep him together whereas in the second one he just goes off the rails. there’s just so much more to be explored with his character and all we really get is he hates his dad but not his mom, and he killed and tortured a bunch of people this literally makes no sense at all but moving on anyways.

third. let’s see, let’s see, let’s see. peter! omg peter. we all know i love peter pettigrew and canon peter is… well… the fucking worst. give me peter pettigrew that made a bit of a mistake, sure, but it didn’t cost his friends their lives and they forgave him. give me (this will be an icotfs moment) deaf peter pettigrew who taught his friends sign language in their first year and was so happy just to have friends because he had it rough in the past but now he has a family at school. give me peter pettigrew who was a hat stall because he’s wise and loyal and cunning and brave. give me peter pettigrew who worked so so hard for his marks in school and excelled because he worked for it. give me peter pettigrew who makes fun of his friends as relentlessly as they make fun of him and his just, happy! give me peter pettigrew who was genuinely friends with everybody, not a kid they had to look after, not an outcast, not anything else. a friend.

now, if you meant pick any three characters to erase from fanon and replace, my answer is different and i don’t know what it is.

least favorite color / tied to childhood memory

hmmmm. probably either like a neon green or brown-orange. when i was a kid, for a period of time, my favorite color was orange but i always had to specify not brown orange colors. specifically bright oranges. also like… idk how to describe it but off white in the way medicine is. i had to take this liquid medicine for a long period of time when i was little and it was this weird white color and absolutely nasty. especially the orange flavor. completely vile. i can still taste it right now and that was like 13 years ago.

characters as teachers

oh this is a fun one. here we go.

james potter: he is struggling just a bit. he’s for sure a humanities teacher, and he hasn’t quite found the balance between being a good teacher and a nice teacher. he’s like right on the edge there, where he’s almost perfect, but he does get fooled by a dead grandma from time to time, or a student taking advantage of his niceness. but he is, so nice. and really helpful. he does absolutely everything he can to help his students, even if that means staying at work until 10pm trying to come up with a way to help this kid pass his class, he’ll do it. even if he has to tutor a kid on the entire history of the world. this man is committed to his work. he said “i wanna be a teacher” and he really meant it. sirius, remus, peter, regulus, and lily have all had to forcibly pull him away from his work on more than one occasion. regulus once just stayed the night in james’ classroom because he refused to leave.

bellatrix black: this one. this is a wild one. because that’s what bella is, isn’t she? a wild card. controversial opinion? i initially saw her as an art teacher and then it switched in my brain and now i can’t let go of her being an economics/government/finance teacher. i mean, picture her just sitting at the front of her classroom, sitting cross-legged on top of her desk and teaching kids how to topple a government instead of reading from the textbook? nobody knows how she hasn’t gotten fired yet because she basically taught one class how to money launder and another how to stage a coup. all her students both love her and are terrified of her. she’s the kind of person that can catch a bug in her hands without even looking- she makes sure to do that trick on the first day of every class, she will not fuck around, got it? but she has her favorite students who she’s so sweet to. like if they cough once during class they are going to the nurse’s office and she will march them right down there if she has to.

frank longbottom: now he is the perfect balance. the teacher i’ve always been in awe of. the one who manages to perfectly balance everything and act like it’s nothing. i could honestly see him teaching any subject and you know what? maybe he teaches all of them, who can say? he is nice, but not a pushover. a good teacher, but a kind one. he balances his personal life and work perfectly and doesn’t let them bleed too much into each other. every once in a while, he’ll get a little too caught up on one thing or the other - he’s only human, right? - but he’s usually able to get back into it pretty easily, especially with the help from his friends. his students all like him, they say goodbye sadly but don’t miss him too terribly when he’s gone, but he’s touched all of their lives somehow. he’s that one teacher whose class every student wants to be in, and everybody else is jealous when they don’t end up there.

gideon prewett: he’s a kindergarten teacher. he has one of those little town rugs in the middle of his floor, he reads all the books at story time with different voices and acts it out. he hosts little events as much as possible for the kids to participate in. plays, puppet shows, bake sales, etc. he also goes all out with birthdays, like decorates the whole classroom and everything. and he’s an amazing teacher. like those kids are leaving his classroom at the end of the year with a second grade education. some of them go to college early. he gets invited to their weddings. he randomly brings in things to make his students happy like cookies (different kinds for allergies and dietary restrictions) or plants. he always brings something in himself for show and tell. he’s the teacher everybody loved when they were in kindergarten and never got another teacher who could live up to him. except for the students that ended up with his brother as an AP calc teacher. he’s completely different but exactly the same simultaneously, but the only one who ever came close to matching him.

lucius malfoy: oof. you do not want to be in his class. this man is like an APUSH or AP physics teacher. he is strict and not forgiving. he picks his favorites on the first day of class and everybody else knows the year is about to be shit for them. he keeps a whole ass family portrait on the wall behind his desk, and he looks hella intimidating in it. he gives hours of homework each night, half of it busy work because he can’t be bothered to grade it all, and insanely difficult tests. the only reason he’s still allowed to teach is because he sucks up to the head of the school board and he’s about to be on tenure, then no one can touch him. there’s also a ton of rumors flying around about him at all times though, because the kids hate him so much. and some of them come back to bite him in the ass, so, good for you, kids.

favorite colors

ooooo how to choose. okay first definitely has to be a neutral pastel/sage green, like the one in my tumblr theme. it’s so calming and soothing and it reminds me of being in a little fairytale forest. like, i look at it and i see low hanging branches with floating lights and a calm stream running by a woodland cottage. it’s lovely.

then probably something like the blue you posted. it reminds me of the word midnight. it’s mysterious, it’s never-ending, it’s kind of scary, but in a good way. i accidentally typed “in a god way” the first time and tbh, yeah.

and then like a lavender color like this one. i can’t really explain why it just makes my brain happy.

chef xeno vs model xeno

nooooo i have to choose? i love model xeno, i really do. i love absolutely everything about him. but my heart goes to chef au :pensive:. especially with the brilliant alteration that it’s secretly a ratatouille au where barty and evan think xeno is this brilliant chef but they have no idea there’s just a tiny peter on his head doing all the cooking for him. i also think it’s funny picturing xeno being all cocky thinking two guys are trying to compete for him when really, they’re both trying to get with him at the same time. he would be so oblivious but so happy at the revelation and i love him for that.

american girl dolls

ok somebody fr just asked me this? but when i was a kid i wanted one so badly, not even sure why. i think it was a “everyone else has one so i need one” type thing? i also just liked dolls. i got two oof-brand american girl dolls over time, one has a brown bob with bangs and i named her emily and the other has long blonde hair and ngl i forgot her name… but i have like a whole ass closet for these girlies. i loved them with my whole heart for a while. opinions overall? i definitely don’t get the hype anymore. and the american girl puberty books and shit are weird… but dolls in general >>> (except the creepy ones).

oh god

i woke up at like 4am with the best headcanon for trans reg and i didnt write it down because i couldn't find my phone lol and i almost forget, i got it now but its a bit blurry, it's so simple, but i still love it when sirius is a good brother, and also, i have the weirdest biggest thing for ballet dancer regulus (im not a ballet dancer, but im obsessed with reg as one. I blame sugar high)

Okay so, i just thought, what if in the Black family walburga (in a muggle au of course because in canon she would never let them near anything that is from the muggle world) made the boys learn to play an instrument like either piano, violin or something like that "classy" instruments and the girls learn ballet. So of course little Reggie wanted lo learn to play the piano. So when their parent left the house for whatever reason, Sirius taught Reggie how to play. also trans reg and genderqueer sirius>>>>>>>>>>

i also love when Sirius and Regulus have a good brother relationship 🥹 my next fic sirius is the MOST supportive

he supports regulus’ rights but most importantly, he supports regulus’ wrongs

My controversial (mostly) marauders opinions:

- I don’t ship wolfstar and tend to add it to fics to make people happy, not because I’m genuinely interested in them as a couple. (I get death threats for this :) )

- the popularity rosekiller has recently grown ruined the ship for many

- transphobia in the fandom is rampant

- saying you can’t hc a character as trans bc it ‘doesn’t make sense’ is transphobic. Anyone can be trans, no matter the circumstances they live in

- shipping Jegulus doesn’t mean you fetishise mlm

- hcing everyone to be white is racist

- people who yell yell at and send death threats to people who ship Remus and Sirius and Marlene and Dorcas with anyone but each other don’t deserve to be here :) let me ship Remus with Reg and Dorcas with Mary in peace okay?

- people unironically who act like grant is canon are annoying. I love Mariah and Ben but I still acknowledge they aren’t canon

- people need to stop forcing people to read and enjoy choices and atyd. You can’t say that somebody isn’t a part of the fandom if they haven’t read two fics you happen to like 🙄

- poly ships get WAYYYY too much hate. Especially wlw poly ships (Dorcas/Lily/Marlene and Pandora/Lily/Mary in particular)

- it’s not unrealistic for them all to be queer. We did exist before 2010

- the fandom is so fucking racist it’s unbelievable

- Pete doesn’t get enough love. At all. We love Pete here.

I heard you’re on this awful trip at the moment (you better receive many more back rubs from your partner, if he’s there as well) and I’m sorry if this makes it all worse, but I just had a question and I don’t know who else to ask (though obviously I’m aware that it’s not your job to educate me on this topic, and you’re not fucking google ofc)

So I’m writing this modern muggle au right, and you know how since Remus cannot be a werewolf in them, people often give him a chronic illness or make him deaf or blind, but would it be disrespectful to make him trans ??

In the sense that, no idea what the origin of werewolves is, but it’s giving cis straight white guy from centuries ago not getting any girls creating this monster based on periods, because he’s a cis straight white man that’s not getting any girls.

Soo, what if Remus’ dad is a transphobe, but maybe not on J.K. Rowling level, ‘cause apparently he wasn’t a horrible father in canon (though who gives a fuck about canon ?), but maybe he has this whole thing going on about, don’t let children get surgeries, or teens take hormones, they’re too young to be sure yet (which is still an awful view, obviously, just slightly less horrible) but then there’s 4 year old Remus realising he’s trans. And then instead of turning into animagi, once the rest of the marauders realise he’s trans, Sirius goes to Reg to know how to make this all easier for Remus, and they try to show him that it’s safe for him to come out to them if he ever feels like it, and stuff (this is getting to long so gotta cut it short)

Anyways, is that disrespectful ?? Because that’s not at all my intention, but I’m scared that it is … Feel free to verbally kick my ass though if it is, do not hold back

So first, obviously I’m just one person and not like the authority of the trans community, so another trans person might disagree with me. I’m sure you know that but I feel like I need to give the disclaimer anyways.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making Remus trans. I think all the reasons you listed make sense. However, I don’t think making him trans in place of having a disability is okay. Because being trans isn’t a disability. You know? I think it would actually be great if he was trans and had a disability.

Anyways, that’s my opinion. 💗

Trying something a little different with this one! should be about 3-5 parts, lots of nice smut but also a pinch of character development, a smattering of fluff, a sprinkle of angst and (shock horror) an original female character??

BTW IT IS SET IN THEIR FIFTH YEAR (GOF) TIME BUT IS NOT CANON OK? OK.

“Hufflepuff!”

The shout echoes off the stone walls of the great hall and I slide off the chair, praying I didn’t leave any sweat marks behind me; it would be just my luck. Walking over to the table of cheering Hufflepuffs all wrapped up in their yellow scarves, I try not to let my prejudices get the better of me.

But seriously, Hufflepuff is the worst house, everyone knows that. It’s for the kids who don’t belong anywhere else: the rejects. We’re basically just a band of outcasts with a reputation for being overly friendly. Maybe it is the perfect house for me.

“Welcome to Hufflepuff! My name’s Phillip, I’m head boy. Come take a seat next to all the other first years.” A heavyset boy with an upturned nose and big eyes welcomes me warmly. I shake his pudgy hand and slide in next to an asian girl with jet black hair. She smiles awkwardly at me.

“Hi, I’m Joe.” She says over the uproar coming come Gryffindor table; a lanky kid with fire-truck red hair slinks over to them.

“I’m Marnie. Nice to meet you.” I smile back, hoping to god I’ve just made my first friend.

“Draco Malfoy!” The voice of the hat booms out and a pale kid with white blonde hair saunters up to the chair. He has an unmistakable air of confidence and he smirks as the hat hover above his head for a second before declaring loudly: “SLYTHERIN!”

“God, he looks like a twat.” Joe says to me. I laugh in agreement, something about his eyes reminds me of a snake slowly constricting around its prey and watching them closely with sick fascination, waiting for them to notice that the end is nigh.

“Too right. I tell you what, I’d rather be in Hufflepuff than in Slytherin.” We both turn up our noses at the raucous table full of green scarves and sly smiles.

“I’m with you on that one mate, bunch of lunatics over there. No wonder they keep them in the dungeons.” I laugh loudly at Joe’s remark and the silver haired boy, Draco I think, looks up at me. Our eyes meet and my laugh dies off, quickly turning into an awkward stare down which he wins without contest. I look away quickly and study the engravings on my fork.

“Don’t look now, but Mister Albino just caught me laughing at him.” I whisper to Joe. She very obviously whips her head up and stares back at him.

“Oh yeah. He just saw me look as well. Awkward.” She goes red and we both duck our heads down.

“That’s why I told you not to look, dumbo!” I whisper yell at her, giving her a side-eye through the curtain of my brown hair.

“Well sorry! There’s a reason I’m in Hufflepuff, not Ravenclaw!” She whisper yells back, and we both burst into uncontrolled laughter.

Yep, I’ve definitely made my first friend.

FOUR YEARS LATER

“Ugh, you’d think they didn’t know what a shower was in Romania.” Joe turns up her nose as some exceedingly smelly Durmstrang students skulk pas.

“Is that where they’re from?” I ask absentmindedly, flicking lazily though the pages of The Quibbler. My head is resting on Joe’s back and we lounge in the sun, enjoying the final days of summery weather. Joe picks at the grass, her feet kicking in the air behind her.

“What are you two losers doing?” A gleeful voice calls out across the grounds. Our friend Reggie makes his way over, not without gawking at some Beauxbatons girls strutting past.

“Something that requires more than your one braincell, sorry Reg.” I quip back as he nears us.

“Yeah, sorry mate! You don’t meet the requirements for our exclusive club.” Joe squints up at Reggie as he towers over us, which he doesn’t do often. The five-foot eight blondie with cherubic features is cute, in like a coochie-coochie-coo way. A shame, really, as Reggie has the biggest crush on Joe, who I’m pretty sure has no idea.

“Damn, and all this time I thought you were too threatened by my knack for comedic timing to be my friends.” He pouts playfully and splays on the grass next to us.

“I think an owl shat down your back.” Joe points out, sending Reggie into a fit; rolling all over the grass.

“What?! Get it off me! Where??” He squeals, trying to tug his robes around to see the back.

“There’s no owl shit, is there.” I mutter to Joe, not trying to hide my smile.

“Of course not.” She whispers back before pointing to an unreachable spot on Reggie’s back. “Just there, Reg! You’re so close!”

He rolls towards us with unexpected speed and begins to steamroll on top of Joe, which I guess has more to do with an excuse to be near her than any imagined owl shit.

“And this is my cue, see you lovebirds back in the common room later.” I laugh as I heave myself off the ground, slinging my book bag over my shoulder.

“What! Where you going?” Joe looks up at me from under a writhing blonde.

“I need to return some books to the library and give Professor McGonagall her copy of trans-fig four back. I spilt ink on mine, remember?”

“Okay Marnie! See ya later!” Reggie has no problem waving me goodbye and pretty soon, Joe is back to laughing in fits as he continues to roll around.

I walk back into the school and start making my way towards the library. I see a flash of silver and green disappear into an empty classroom as I turn into a deserted hallway. Draco Malfoy.

Curious, I creep quietly towards the door. As I near it, I begin to hear sniffles and shuddering breaths. Is he... crying?!

Not wanting to intrude on an obviously private moment, I back away slowly. Before I can make it two steps, however, the door swings open and there stands an incredibly pissed Draco Malfoy.

I freeze in my place, looking up at him startled. I didn’t mean for him to know that I knew that he was crying, but now, as he stares down at me with his cold blue eyes and permanent scowl, I know that he knows that I know that he was crying.

Good god.

“I’m... I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to intrude.” I straighten up, looking up at his towering figure sincerely.

“Eavesdropping a habit for you, is it?” He spits at me.

“No, it isn’t. I heard crying and just wanted to make sure that whoever it was was ok.” I explain, holding my hands out in a pacifying way.

“You’re a stupid little busy body, go stick you nose elsewhere.” His anger only rises as I stand my ground.

“Well that was unnecessarily rude, wasn’t it?” I raise an eyebrow at him, crossing my arms. He looks taken aback.

“Who do you think you are? You’re just a stupid Hufflepuff.” He laughs devilishly down at me, taking a step forward towards me.

“And you’re an emotionally fragile little boy who can’t see a helping hand if it slapped him.” I shoot back. “Apparently.” I add, unsure as to why he was crying and not wanting to jump to any conclusions.

“Help?” He scoffs, laughing sarcastically. “Does it look like I need help?” He spreads his arms out to apparently show all the great things he has going for him, but all I see is a sullen, silver haired boy with red rimmed eyes, wet eyelashes and dark circles as deep as tartarus,

“I don’t know, Draco, I’m not the one crying in empty classrooms. Do you need help?” I ask him sincerely, taking a step towards him. My mother always said that too much of anything was a bad thing, including compassion. That was always going to be the death of me. I’d likely get stabbed by someone and hope it made them feel better.

“Not from the likes of you.” He seethes

“Well, no accounting for bad taste. See you around.” I shrug, turning my back on Draco and continuing down the hall. Silence stretches out and the only sound is the clop of my shoes on the concrete.

“I know who you are, Marnie Millicent.” He calls out after me, and the way he says my name has the hair on my neck standing up. “You’re on my radar now.” Although it sounds like a threat, I’m not too sure what being on Draco’s ‘radar’ entails.

“Like I said, see you around.” I call back just before rounding the hallway and attempting to wipe any trace of Draco from my mind.

But just like a red wine stain on white leather, he won’t leave.
