Hey students, if you have a choice of presenting your information in tables or graphs, choose the graph. Want to know why: 🔽
Tumblr media
Graphs showcase trends, relationships, and key takeaways in a format the mind grasps faster than rows and columns. When you need to drive home critical data or demonstrate complex connections, graphs speak volumes.
Focus the spotlight on what matters most. Eliminate distractions with clean axes, labels, and legends tailored to the story you want to tell. Guide the viewer's eyes towards revelations, not footnotes.
But don't abandon tables altogether. Sometimes specifics and precise figures need the clarity tables allow. Use graphs to pull out patterns and messages, then turn to tables when the raw numbers themselves hold meaning.
With intentional design, graphs grab attention and spark "Aha!" moments. Tables serve as vital references to ground insights in accuracy. Together, they become a powerful communication duo.
The right balance drives home your data-driven point quickly, clearly and credibly. Let purpose guide your mix of visuals. Whether tables or graphs, let the numbers speak.
👉Do you agree with me? Let me know in the comments.

1st Formal analysis assignment (meme review)
Tumblr media
Woman Yelling at Cat made is a redesign of the meme where Smudge the cat is getting yelled by a lady from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and the context used is usually for some silly argument. There isn't any personal info regarding the person who drew this so I will use their online name, Ukiyomemes, instead. Originally, the source image is a photograph, but Ukiyomemes made it into a painting to aesthetically fit memes into your home walls. As the artist's name suggests, the drawing style that this art uses are called an ukiyo-e which is a genre of Japanese art popular from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
Tumblr media
A pleasing thing about this art is the colors used. Taking a quick glance at the entire color palette of this work, there is a solid black, a vivid red, blue, yellow and green which is quite common with an ukiyo-e. Also, ukiyo-e tends to have flat colors and by that, I mean you see solid colors for most part of the drawing with no blending for shading, capturing colors at its minimalistic form. Looking at the women on the left, she is wearing a red kimono in contrast to the friend behind her wearing a dark blue kimono. Red is usually associated with intense emotions like passion, love and anger while blue is for sadness, relaxation and calming. So, it is quite fitting that the unhappy pointing woman is wearing red while the blue kimono lady is holding her friend back as to calm her down.
Lines in this piece are really important. It defines the shapes of a design like the autumn leaves on the left woman’s kimono that otherwise would be a simple color on her sleeves. Lines divide the solid red so that patterns of leaves are formed. Another use of lines here is the texture and forms they create. Smudge got squiggly black lines to show his fluffy fur, the line inside the hand is to show creases and the women has white lines on their hair to show the direction where the hair is folded or styled into. The choice of kimono design also plays similarly to the colors used. The red one has spiky autumn leaves, and the blue has a round flower motif. Sharp lines can be seen as aggressive while rounded lines seem mellow, which again, reflects the 2 ladies' current emotion well.
When it comes to my understanding of this work, I only see it as a redesign of a meme. In the end I still see it with the same context, a lady getting worked up over a random cat. One thing I would say that can be taken as a message, is the usage of ukiyo-e style. Since ukiyo-e is a fairly old style, time passed and it became less known to the current audience so the fact that someone still uses this style spreads awareness that this kind of genre exists in the world too. Overall, I appreciate the artist's ability to capture the same vibe as the original photographs. The overly angry lady, the girl behind trying to calm her friend down and the bewildered cat...it is so random as concept, but it just works. The fact that the artist also put their own spin to the work makes it a one of a kind art.

Perspective Unveiled: Architectural Insights from Painting
Throughout history, perspective has been pivotal for artists and architects, with roots tracing back to Leon Battista Alberti's seminal treatise, "De pictura" (On Painting) in 1435. His work revolutionized artistic and architectural representation, providing a systematic method for creating convincing illusions of depth and space.
Pros and Cons of One-Point Perspective:
One-point perspective, with its single vanishing point, offers simplicity and clarity, making it accessible for beginners. It excels in scenes with objects facing the viewer but struggles with complex angles, potentially leading to distortion and limitations in depicting diverse viewpoints.
Pros and Cons of Two-Point Perspective:
Two-point perspective introduces depth variation and versatility, allowing for dynamic compositions and realistic spatial relationships. However, it's more complex and requires careful alignment of multiple vanishing points, posing challenges in managing distortion and accuracy, especially towards the edges.
Hidden Possibilities and Limitations:
Perspective drawing offers insights beyond technicalities, shaping our understanding of spatial perception and composition. By delving into its historical development and nuances, architects can enrich their design practice and discourse, leveraging perspective's expressive potential.
Perspective, a cornerstone of artistic and architectural representation, continues to shape our contemporary environment amidst the digital age, intersecting with the instrument of the camera in profound ways. In today's architectural practice, the principles of perspective remain fundamental, influencing design methodologies and visual communication strategies. Architects leverage one-point and two-point perspective techniques to convey spatial concepts and immerse stakeholders in virtual environments through advanced rendering software. The advent of digital photography and smartphone cameras has democratized architectural documentation and representation. Architects harness the camera's lens to capture built environments from various viewpoints, enabling real-time visualization and analysis.
However, while digital tools offer unprecedented capabilities in architectural visualization, they also pose challenges in maintaining authenticity and human-centred design principles. The ubiquity of digital imagery underscores the importance of critical thinking and visual literacy, as architects navigate between the idealized representations and lived experiences of built environments. In this dynamic landscape of creative exploration and technological innovation, embracing historical insights while adapting to contemporary tools enables architects to enrich architectural discourse and design practice in profound and meaningful ways.

Open your eyes and ask yourself Does Billie Eilish look “Happier Than Ever” or to join the debate, Empowered in this PR photo for British Vogue that accompanies her new album? And what happens when the words (thoughts) and pictures (feelings) are not in alignment? Are we more or less vulnerable to the suggestion of impulse buy of Vogue Magazine or Gucci bustier? VISUAL LITERACY is key to visual, emotional and financial health. NO JOKE. #billieeilish #britishvogue #vogue #visualliteracy #health #financialliteracy https://www.instagram.com/p/COgsLqBjRKe/?igshid=cdeeceh43zje

I'm currently working with @cityofplayford and the awesome kids of Elizabeth Grove Primary School to create a positive anti-bullying #mural for their playground. Here are some snaps from our planning sessions. The kids voted in favor of using anthropomorphic characters instead of regular humans so that they could be more universal and relatable. Check out their excellent mind-map about being a buddy and NOT a bully 💖💖💖 #primaryschool #murals #antibullying #kidsart #arteducation #artclass #drawing #cartooning #anthropomorphic #illustration #characters #visualliteracy #mindmap #brainstorm #imagination #animals

To impart what you have to the young is very uplifting. In return you also learn from them the most that we least remember - - simple joy. The innocence and curiosity of youth are what we ought to reflect. To teach them the right ways in today’s challenging digital world is a must. Their questions inspire you to do better, their perspectives brings you back to what is basic, their laughter makes you wish you never grew up. Not how to shoot but WHAT TO SHOOT, no filter and no cropping, They did it great. Thank you Colegio de la Immaculada Concepcion (CIC-Mandaue) Photography Club.
