how to generate creative ideas:

Make moodboards, playlists, keep a list of people who inspire you. Before starting a project think about the general vibe you want it to embody. Ask questions like “What would this concept sound like if it was a song?” ,“What would this concept be like if it was a person?”. Create a shirt that looks like a building you like, literally anything can be combined.

Take unrelated things or concepts and mix them together. Let’s take Addams Family as an example. “What if it was a story about a typical suburban family…but GOTH!”. It basically flips everything upside down. Or “What outfit would someone wear, who’s personality is the mix of the vibes of these two songs?” Random word generators are amazing for this if you don’t know where to start from.

Try making something truly BAD and then add a twist to it. It’s a great way for your brain to let go of expectations and then think outside of the box. But you can also use this to find out what you do not wanna do under any circumstances.

Think without worrying about the limits of what you can do and when it’s time for excecution, find a way around what’s impossible. It births more creativity and adds uniqueness.

Consider what your idea is NOT before considering what it is. Limits are the best way to avoid getting overwhelmed and giving up. Don’t ALWAYS do this though (unless you wanna…), it’s just something to try out when you feel like you’re seeing too many possibilities to the point that they’re contradicting each other. Unless your goal is to make something full of contradictions, you’re a Free Man, do whatever you want.

Keep a list of random ideas you have throughout the day in your notes app or something and then at some point actually review them. Keep what you think is worth exploring and then act on it.

Find out how something works very throughoutly so you know which aspect can be changed to create something new.

Take a concept and break it down into smaller concepts, ideas, questions, key elements and then also break those ideas down etc. This will naturally lead to associations, unique ideas you wouldn’t think of without doing this. I found that this is a great way of coming up with metaphors.

This one is similar to the last two: take a piece of art you really love and try to find out the thought process behind. What’s the story, where did the artist get inspiration from, how did they incorporate those ideas in their work. How did an artist combine their personal interests and knowledge into one big thing. For example: Tolkien was an erudite linguist, so much so that he created entire functional languages in his work, such as Elvish in Lord of the Rings. Hirohiko Araki loves 80’s music so much he named characters in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure after music references. This is why no knowledge is useless knowledge.

Think about the times you’ve been the most creative before. What were the specific circumstances? For me my best ideas always come when I have a strict deadline for something unrelated, like school (which I’m way too willing to sacrifice), or when I’m doing something mindless like walking and listening to music, or playing a game that requires no thinking. Most of the time after 10p.m. This doesn’t mean I can’t “force” myself to be creative (tips above), it just means these are the times ideas come most naturally. For some people this might be being out in nature or experiencing high emotions, maybe having their life on the line idk, to each their own.

You can’t just create. You also need to consume. The more information you absorb, the more possibilities you have with your ideas. So if you’re not feeling that creative, that’s fine, it’s the perfect opportunity to learn something new.

If you don’t already do these things and you’re looking to get more creative my advice is to ACTUALLY TRY THESE OUT. You’ll best understand them in action.

so. kiriona huh?

under the cut: full nona spoilers, plus me trying to process some thoughts and coming to very few conclusions

what a kick in the teeth that was, huh?

I want to touch on two main things about gideon's appearance as kiriona in ntn: kiriona's behavior toward the other characters and kiriona as revenant and how I think those things might be related.

so I'm open to both the ideas I've seen floating around wrt to kiriona's behavior in ntn, those being 1) this is an extremely traumatized, sad, and angry but functionally complete gideon nav and 2) that this is only a fragment of gideon's soul.

I think enough people mention "parts" of souls enough times for the fragment theory to have weight, as well as the interview in which tamsyn compares gideon's soul to a happy meal (yeah) and saying that harrow only ever ate the hamburger, whither the fries and drink, etc. maybe what we're seeing is the discarded plastic toy of gideon nav's soul.

however, there are things kiriona says and does that are absolutely 100% gideon. I think what's giving a lot of people pause is kiriona's apparent indifference to seeing her friends and allies again and, most significantly, her indifference over seeing harrow's body. for better or worse, one of gideon's defining characteristics is that she cares a whole fuck of a lot about harrowhark nonagesimus. kiriona acts aloof and unconcerned about all that for a good chunk of her page time in ntn, but particularly near the end we some behavior break through that facade that we would more readily associate with gideon (holding harrow's body and telling her to keep it together when nona starts to come apart; telling alecto to get in line when she offers harrow her service).

so, yknow, I think either option is fair game at this point, but unequivocally this is gideon, at least in part.

so then, this is gideon. and given that, there are some behaviors that I am having trouble reconciling with the gideon we've seen thus far.

I have a hard time believing that gideon would shove an injured and dying cam the way that she does, but hey, she's having a really, really bad day. just what we've seen her experience on page could fill her therapy appointments for the next myriad, and idk what eight months with only john "gaslight" gaius and ianthe "girlboss" tridentarius will do to a mf. I am withholding judgement.

but even moreso than that, I have a hard time reconciling the gideon we see in htn with whatever the hell kiriona's got going on with ianthe. gideon hates ianthe. gideon is furious with ianthe for the way that she treated harrow throughout htn, and yet kiriona and ianthe have friendship bracelets and a secret handshake. and so I'm wondering: how much does kiriona remember about the events of htn?

I'm also interested in why god made gideon into a revenant. he did not have to do that—he's god. presumably he could have fixed her body and put her soul back where it belongs, provided he had access to both those things. and yet kiriona is tied to her own mutilated corpse. is, in her own words, mega-dead. why?

perhaps because john wants total control over this asset, this weapon he's created. john, who "knows where remembrance lives in the brain" and is perfectly willing to exploit that. now, he did that with his lyctors while bringing them completely back to life, but gideon has always been a special case. gideon survived nerve gas as a toddler. gideon made harrow's much-abused skull go SPANG back into shape after a few minutes residence in her meat. maybe if john put gideon's soul back in a living body, gideon's healing factor has the ability to revert whatever alterations he may have made to her brain.

(this is assuming I know how revenants work, which is a big assumption. is whatever kiriona's got going on even being processed through gideon's brain, if that brain is dead? unsure. I am not a spirit magician.)

but regardless, we've had a couple examples of how integral memory is to identity in the locked tomb, the biggest one from this very book being nona-who-is-alecto, but alecto-who-is-not-nona. plus the lyctors with their memory of god's fallibility removed, plus harrow reduced by her half-remembered life.

and then there's what kiriona says to aigalemene, "don't—that's where my heart used to be."

is it possible that kiriona gaia is a gideon with the parts most inconvenient to god cut away?

Hi!! Gin for the ask game?

Yay Gin!!!

Favorite thing about them: Oh man there's not much to talk about in canon outside of the oc I made from them. But I still think they're very cool!! I also find them felling affection for Ryuunosuke to be very sweet, they're the only character in the whole series together with Higuchi who's ever shown to genuinely care about him.

Least favorite thing about them: How they weren't given a personality outside of “Akutagawa's sister”. Like, I love Gin, but being honest, it's more of loving the character I built pretty much from scratch for them in my mind, because canon literally never gave them a personality. Also, I don't like the voice actor choice for them… I don't know if I'm being conservative with this, but I find that kind of hyperfemininity they're depicted having sometimes (their high-pitched voice, the onsen scene in Wan) pretty stereotypical, that taste of “all tough girls deep down actually want to be delicate and femminine” from old medias I don't really vibe with.

Favorite line:

This one, because it's funny, and specifically because it's a non-verbal line. I like the idea of Gin using their sword more than they use their mouth.

brOTP: Look, I'm weak for siblings dynamics. They're always my favourite thing. I don't remember ever having an hyperfixation that didn't include siblings dynamics. I love love love the Gin / Ryuunosuke relationship and could talk about them for days. ALSO the Black Lizard in general I've already talked about them here I care so much about them. I really like tachigin platonically too. And I like Gin's dynamics with Higuchi, I actually like them better platonically.

OTP: I dig everything tachigin, I really like them and the “I'm not who I say I am but you know me better than myself even though you don't know my true identity” deal they have going on. I also like the idea of Gin and Naomi 👀👀👀 talkative gf x gf who's never said a word their whole life. Also my personal crack ship Gin × Paula ThePromisedNeverland

nOTP: ... I don't really dig higu/gin. Higu/gin friends, please forgive me. I just think that starting dating the person your brother has repeatedly abused would be super awkward, and I don't think I really like the idea of Higuchi basically dating Ryuunosuke's sister as rebound guy. Also it's just a thing with me and not being a fan of vanilla / sugar spice and everything nice wlw ships. I do acknowledge they have their fair share of scenes together and that they're perfect to be interpreted romantically!! The latest volume 23 omake especially, it can perfectly be taken as romantic. It's just not something that does it for me, and tbh I like them better with having a kind of sisters dynamics, with Higuchi being this kind of very exuberant and silly self-assigned older sister and Gin who just likes her and enjoys hanging out with her.

Random headcanon: Oh boy, may I introduce you to my Gin brainrot. I really have so many ideas about them. Apart from what I've already mentioned, I really like the idea of them having selective mutism, especially as it's shown in Wan. I don't think they're someone to talk in general. The Akutagawas household must be death silent 24/7 lol.

Unpopular opinion: I just wish people would give them more flaws. I'ver read my fair share of Gin fics, and in all of them they're always this kind of sassy / funny / witty / pretty / confident / charismatic / overall perfect person. As result, I find them quite boring to read, and they particularly pale in comparison to Ryuunosuke; especially since at least for me it's his flaws that make him such a compelling character. I wish we'd extend some of his flaws to Gin too. They're bad at communication and expressing their feelings. They're aggressive and pessimistic. Idk, anything that makes them a little more human.

Song i associate with them: How To World Domination by Neru. Just the overall imaginary it evokes of two siblings close in age fighting together in a world that is both violent and war-ridden, and terribly domestic and mundane. The feeling of being lonely together. Them both fighting to become a better version of themselves, a kinder version of themselves, even, before my heart grows numb from the cold. This song really is one that always evokes the Akutagawa siblings in my mind whenever it comes on shuffle. Also, Re-education by Neru, for similar reasons.

Honestly this is hella hard to answer for me given that

a) I can't get myself to keep going with Volatile for some fucking reason so a lot of potential ships in my story aren't realized yet or worse the characters in it haven't even been properly introduced yet (kill me, I'm bad at this)

and b) I'm really not that good at this whole romantic ship thing I'm realizing, the relationships that I personally find the most interesting in my story are either platonic, friendships, parental, sibling like relationships...that kinda stuff.

There are very few ships that I have planned in Volatile at the moment. And a lot of them are kinda crack ships or ships that are completely doomed by the narrative aka me.

Then of course there's the fact that I would spoil the hell out of people by dabbling into ships that haven't been introduced yet so....eh.....

That being said, I don't know if I can really give a good answer to this, much less an answer that anyone reading this could actually follow or find interesting at this point in time x_x

They're not really a crack ship xD But I didn't really have the chance to develop them much just yet, so as of now they're just an outlet for more nsfw and edgy shit and a more unhinged Mabon who wouldn't really be in character in the canon universe.

I find their dynamic interesting though because I feel like they both see the worst parts of themselves in each other which validates them and their behavior in certain ways, but also causes them to low key despise each other. It's a picture book co-dependent relationship that could force them to confront parts of themselves that they'd probably much rather ignore.

This one is actually probably p nonviolent bc I don’t think this is a very controversial take round these parts! But definitely all of Finn’s romantic plot lines. I can sort of make an argument abt how they reflect the part of his character that’s really invested in the fairytale idea of being a hero which implies being the romantic lead

(I lean toward hcing him as aroace but don’t feel super strongly abt it, but that or gay or otherwise not into women also adds a comphet element— regardless it’s an interesting parallel with lots of characters but in particular Bonnie, who very clearly has lived her life according to rules she gathered and interpreted about who and what a princess is AND what a girl is. Very gendered so for Finn there’s a bit of toxic masculinity involved in his romantic pursuits and also his inclination toward violence in the earlier seasons. Plus the whole overarching theme of rebuilding society post-post-apocalypse and most of the characters kind of forcing themselves into a mold using what they know and don’t know about past societies combined with how their own has interacted w them.

Comphet also obviously parallel with Bonnie continuing to call Mr. CP her boyfriend etc etc etc, but also maybe more relevant— I hc Marceline as bi so I dont think being attracted to men is compulsory for her but still think heteronormativity is very relevant to her story & I think the same would be true for Finn regardless of orientation. Actually very similar for both of them subconsciously recreating heteronormative relationships which are so reflective of their own specific family structures— Marcy drawn to the Hunson in Ash and dare I say the Simon and the Betty AND the Elise in Bonnie? + Finn drawn to both the Minerva and the Margaret in Bonnie and FP and, to an extent, HW too. Caregivers who are also leaders and answer to no one. HW is a little less officially this but I’d argue that as a female character heavily associated with both nature and protection she is inherently at least a little bit mom-adjacent-coded or something idk what I’m saying but yeah that! Digression lol.)

BUT way overdone even if that was the intention. A lot of that time could’ve been spent on him and Jake and BMO doing silly shit or like expanding on his relationships with Jermaine and Margaret and Joshua and Fern and the humans etc etc. and/or more depth for the love interests themselves. Ofc I always want more Bonnie and there’s a lot more to dig into with FP (and the two of them together for that matter!) & also HW has such a cool design and she’s interesting but I feel like I don’t know much about her and had she and Finn had a different relationship there may have been more room for her to develop. It feels like fan service though I’m guessing now it’s not actually in service of most ppl who are still really big fans. Maybe more so network service lol.

Also sad that some of those songs (all gummed up slaps too hard) and episodes are really good/funny imo I wish they were about something else 😭 (too young is extremely important to me I refuse to discount it but I obvs understand why a lot of ppl want to it’s super frustrating/disappointing.)

Favourite thing about them?

I love his sincere desire to change the world for the better, as well as his love of others and hope for a better future. Of course, it's not just hope but also a DRIVE to make the world better. He just seems like such a sweet, hardworking dude, and if he was real I would love to know him.

Least favourite thing about them?

The fact that we don't get to see more of him. TBF, he died well before the start of Naruto, so we only see him through memories (and that one weird Infinite Tsukuyomi filler story, but I digress.) I want to see how he'd interact with MORE canon characters, I want to see MORE of the original Akatsuki, and I want to know MORE about the Hidden Rain Village.

I'd love a spin-off miniseries about the Hidden Rain Village.

Favourite line?

I'm not always the best at memorizing lines, but I'll go with this one, where he sets out to go on a mission to scout out an area.

In a happier timeline where nothing bad happened and the Hidden Leaf was magically not corrupt at all, I could see him being friends with Naruto.

Nagato/Yahiko/Konan. They have a deep bond, forged through their collective efforts to endure many hardships. To me, it's as if they are destined to be together and to always develop a deep, intimate care and affection for each other. Even if they were to reincarnate, they'd find each other once more.

I am very neutral on him, so my apologies for some lame-ass answers. Also, i felt like I spent a lot of time writing my opinions on Yahiko.

Favourite thing about them?

His abilities were neat, as one of the few who could use Wood Style. i also respect how he tried his best to keep Team 7 in check and (later on) help rebuild the Hidden Leaf after Pain destroyed it.

Least favourite thing about them?

The fact that he was sidelined for most of the War Arc, serving little use outside of buffing up Zetsus. IDK, that was kind of disappointing.

Oh, I also feel weird about the fact that he's supposed to watch Orochimaru in Boruto. Like, if we treat the anime backstory as canon, dude should be traumatized by Orochimaru.

Favourite line?

That one where he threatens to use "draconic measures" on Team 7 when they keep arguing and fighting each other, I guess.

Kakashi once they are both adults. Sai after he is free from Dan's control, since they could relate to each other a lot (especially if you treat his anime backstory as canon.)

My straight (homophobic at that time) older brother watching me play kh II 15(?) or so years ago on the ps2: 'these dudes are gay, wtf' 'why are they holding hands?'

My brother watching me replay the kh games at the start of the pandemic: 'Damn, I remember them being gay, but not this much. Good for them.'

I literally didn't even remember how extremely gay they were, cause I was 10 at the time but fr. If my brother saw it aged 15, I don't get how so many people keep saying it's a reach to ship them.

See the thing is like. Holding hands is not always romantic, you know? Idk if I even consider Sora dropping to his knees crying and clutching Riku’s hand in KH2 “romantic.” Not on its own, at least.

It’s a very intense reaction. Imo it’s still the most emotionally bare we’ve seen Sora thus far. Because he’s not trying to hold anything back. In KH3, when everyone except Riku dies, I get the sense that Sora’s trying to keep it together but can’t and feels (even more) pathetic because of that. But, in KH2, when Sora finally finds Riku, his heart’s just unashamedly spilling out of him and it’s so raw you can feel it, and Nomura is so insane for writing Sora and Riku’s reunion like this. (It’s going to take a lot to top it, and I’m really excited to see him try.)

But it’s not the kind of gesture you can slap a romantic label on and be done with. Rather, it shows this profound, overwhelming love in general. You could label it a lot of things, but Nomura’s choice to make this Sora’s most vulnerable moment communicates This is the person I feel the most for. This is the person I love the most. (And even if we do consider Sora’s vulnerability here on the same level as the KH3 scene, what does it say that just finding Riku, just seeing him again, is as overwhelming for Sora as witnessing the deaths of almost all of his closest friends? Opposite sides of the emotional spectrum, but the same level of intensity, bringing him to his knees, reducing him to tears. That’s a choice.)

My straight boyfriend played the games along with me and even he picked up on Sora’s love for Riku being stronger than his love for any other character. We commonly associate “the person I love most” with a romantic partner, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. And I’m quite a big fan of stories where it’s not, where the heart of the story — the love story — is between family or friends. So I won’t be hugely disappointed if KH ends with no confirmed ships. (No ships would be preferable to… other things.) That said… when viewed collectively, in the context of the other games, I don’t think it’s a stretch to argue Sora and Riku’s KH2 reunion could be romantic.

Every game makes the love between these two boys more and more pronounced — they are clearly the heart of the story — but the last few installments arguably have slid into more romantic territory. We’re seeing more romantic tropes, dialogue, parallels. We’re at the point where Riku’s feelings for Sora are directly paralleled to Hercules’ romantic feelings for Meg. I mean, that’s pretty in your face gay. Among other things. So while on its own the KH2 reunion is not “romantic” imo, the increasing romantic nature of Sora and Riku’s bond can re-contextualize it as such.

If you didn’t pick up the gay shit CoM was putting down (which is highly probable because the EN dub butchered the JP so much), 15 years ago, was the ship a reach? Eh, maybe. I didn’t consider a romance between Sora and Riku until I hit Coded and DDD. Oh hey not Mata Kids AU time but New Atera Headcanons!

Yeah I had a thing with celebrations that would happen in New Atera post Journey's End events so I thought to share it with the Bionicle community on Tumblr for those who wanna use any of them too!

Around the time the unity between the Agori and the Matoran occurred in the past, every year there's a "holiday" ig you'd call it where everyone in New Atera have a week long celebration in honor of that unity and the defeat of the Makuta

The week consists of seven different events that happen during each day of the week

I don't know the actual canon months, seasons and years system of Bionicle let alone Spherus Magna so I'ma just run with the Earth version bc yeah

First Day: The Day of Remembrance

The first event that happens is at night (kinda a baby ref from the Dance of the Moonlight Jellies festival in Stardew Valley bc its honestly my favorite festival in game, it's soo good even with Visible Fish and Reflections mods installed) by the shores closest to the village

Everyone gathers by/in the waves as the village leader (which my opinion I always associated with the old village leader of Bara Magna villages and the Turaga Metru(with Ackar and (maybe) Mata Nui) in their council) give a speech

The festival is to remember those who were lost due to either the Brotherhood Crisis, before Spherus Magna was reformed of the struggle or before the shattering and that their spirits (mediphorcally speaking) shall join them during the festivities in celebration of the unity

They then after a moment of silence release floating lanterns into the waves (the lanterns are bio degradable don't worry, one of their first ideas with the week long holiday, they literally got their planet more livable you think the Agori gonna polute it immediately? They may be organic but they aren't humans)

Honestly every year this always makes the stars seem to shine brighter, Mata Nui does admit he has nothing to do with that (he's honestly surprised by it every year) so everyone assumes now it's the spirits of the lost officially joining in

Day Two: The Day of Harvest of the Plentiful

The second day is where any Bo-Toa and even Mata Nui use their power to grow any if not all crops to their harvest state (idk how accurate this is bc can I roll with it please) to where a huge harvest for both the celebrations and the days to come can happen

Ik it feels wasteful of the energy for even Mata Nui but how the Agori literally struggled for food after the shattering it feels kinda natural to add this(literally I feel like even for a couple of centuries the Agori from post reforming Spherus Magna would still be antsy of low food and water due to being so used to it)

Day Three: The Day of Reminisce

During this day especially young Agori and Glatorian would gather in the village square by a bonfire as stories of events of the Toa Nuva's adventures, tales of the island and Metru Nui and even the events of rising against the Bone Hunters and Skrall United army and the final battle between Mata Nui and Makuta are told

The Turaga love this day especially because they get to put their good storytelling to good use (their good storytellers yeah, listeners? Not so much) while keeping the memories of the past alive in newer generations

When it gets to the Agori and Glatorian adventures though usually the Agori leaders take place in this but at times the younger Agori and Glatorian ask for Mata Nui and or Ackar to do the story telling (personal headcanon Mata Nui is a good storyteller like the Turaga but also is a good listener, Ackar's the same bc good green flag dad energy), they usually roll with it honestly due to how the little ones are more entranced into the story telling from the Great Spirit and Veteran Glatorian themselves

Day Four: The Day of Embers

This celebration is where people come together to put on their own performances, like a talent show but you don't need talent for it

Tahu uses this day to show off his Toa powers in more flashy ways

Takanuva always manages to drag Jaller and Halhi into either a Kohli match reenactment(when they were still Matoran of MOL Kohli match, and also making sure it's safe) or some comedy skit

Lewa always takes the opportunity to join his Le-Matoran bands (I always imagine Lewa playing the drums but you can tweak this for whatever instrument headcanon you have for him)

Day Five: The Day of Sports(bad title Ik)

Basically this day there's two events that happen in one

First is two Kohli matches, one Matoran(and Agori join as well) based one and the other a Toa based one), the Toa Kohli match does have special measurements so no one in the audience doesn't get hurt

While the second is a Glatorian fight, they do keep monitors on this one so there's no Strakk incident again like before with Ackar and no Thornraxx Launchers user

Tahu and Kopaka are banned from fighting against each other in Glatorian matches tho due to how violent they would get between the two (Both Onua and Mata Nui would have to step in to pull the two apart)

Ackar occasionally joins in on these fights but most of the time he watches, it's not he doesn't like the fighting it's just he's actually curious how good the rookie Glatorians are training and learning, this being a habit from his mentoring

There isn't a single Toa Kohli match Pohatu would be in and you bet your ass he'll try to bring Kopaka into it

Day Six: The Day of Joy

The second last day is basically a huge party with music, dancing, food and all kinds of fun

The dances are completely random they'll either be fun ones you can drag friends in for shits and giggles or they can be romantic type ones

You're not required to dance it's entirely optional, just being there is a requirement (to the dismay of Kopaka's anti social self)

Personal Headcanons I tie with this(you can ignore these bc these also include shipping ones as well):

Pohatu is always trying to get Kopaka to dance but manages to get at least one dance out of him

Lewa, Takanuva, Terix and Vastus would be dancing with the young Agori and Glatorian children (Lewa especially and would drag Onua into this as well for the fun) as Lewa would also be keeping them occupied with his Toa powers

If there's a romantic dance going on you will definitely find Mata Nui and Ackar (bc I love this ship, they're so gay for each other) dancing together and the same with Kiina and Gresh (there is no platonic explanation for these two I am sorry)

Any dance Takanuva would literally try to pull both Halhi and Jaller into (This can be taken Platonically and Romantically, polymorphous relationships for the win as a Polysexual woman, accurate polymorphous relationships representation is always welcome in my book)

Despite the state of his body, Matau will definitely be dancing (this is so him I'm sorry)

Nuju and Whenua will definitely be dancing romantic dances together (they were so married, my immediate thought when I first saw them together on screen with Legends of Metru Nui, I immediately thought they were married. I had a similar thing with Duncan Bulk and Jimi Stringer when I was 6-7 years old first watching LEGO Hero Factory), don't even try to separate them it won't work

Day Seven: The Day of Farewells

The final day is similar to the first day where they gather and release lanterns but this time to say farewell and see you next years to the spirits who joined them during the festivities

This time they gather in a huge plateau/field to release (ofc biodegradable) lanterns into the sky

Any Glatorian who have weapons do keep their weapons on them during both the first and last festivities in case of any threats that may happen

After another speech, everyone lights their lanterns, says their farewells or "see you next years" and then on the count of three they release the lanterns into the night sky

It's a moment of silence, or as silent you can get with children and even adults aweing at the sight of all the lanterns flying away

Personal Headcanons I have of this:

Mata Nui always finds himself when the lanterns release looking between the Toa Nuva and his friends, he knew it's been a long time since both the Agori and his Matoran have had peace and joy like during the festivities of the week and is grateful for their unity and glad to have the Toa help protect the Matoran and to have his friends that helped him

Vakama always finds himself looking amongst his fellow Turaga as he remembers their adventures as Toa and ofc the Hordika Venom, they've come a long way yes and had many difficulties but despite their issues he's grateful to have them around

Hot damn took two damn hours to finish this post, or a hour idk I was not focused on the time despite how late in the night it is

Favourite Thing About Him

HIS DESIGN!! He's very big and chunky and he also has a really fuckin cute face. And his color pallet is really sound and balanced, usually dark purple/yellow doesn't work, but when it's gold and dark purple it's. excellent compositionally. His pallet is not only balanced but speaks volumes symbolically about the kinda guy he is -- rich and storied, imperial and even royal, matching his revered status as a legendary Titan. He doesn't look approachable but he is, which is a fun contrast. What you expect may not always be what you get!

Least Favourite Thing About Him

Nothing that I can think of! When I like a character I like a character, I don't really think about what I dislike.

Random Headcanon

I don't know if it's canon but it probably should be -- he can sing. He often serenades Osiris whenever they're together, and he likes singing to and with the Tower children. And he can absolutely belt shanties and bar songs like there's no tomorrow.

Another is that because of his love for pigeons he has one tattooed/engraved on his chest! And aside from the typical rock dove his favourites are mourning doves, the Nicobar pigeon and the Luzon bleeding heart dove.

Unpopular Opinion

I don't usually dip my toes into wider fandoms (for good reason, especially w/ what I've heard of Destiny's fandom) so I can't really determine what would be considered a popular/unpopular opinion, but I know that this is a subject of debate in various other fandoms that have had canon-gay or canon-lesbian characters.

I think it's. Weird to ship him w/ women. Like idk? I've had people in the CR fandom absolutely attack me for this but it feels like. Erasure in a way. Especially when, in my knowledge, explicitly gay characters are so often underrepresented in not just mainstream sci-fi medias, but in FPS games. Rep is getting better in this day and age and Saint is part of that rep. I dunno, kinda hard to articulate.

ummm um to be like #thoughtful or whatever though i always struggle to put my investment to words because i simultaneously feel like a lot of what draws me to them feels self explanatory but Also every time i think that about hs i turn out to be wrong. that sounds so mean i just have autism and 0 frame of reference lol.

but anyways for me like ive basically been invested in gamzee and by extension gamkar from the beginning. at risk of being kind of nice for once i actually think homestuck did a pretty decent job wrt the introductions of the trolls in establishing the levels of importance and especially the dynamics at play through when we see them interacting, so it always felt Important that the conversation that established gamzee and karkat as good friends was so early on. in general i dont really think hs has many transitional spots that are not being used intentionally to create subconscious association between the subjects. so by extension theres the more obvious literal conversation we have between the two of them that both establishes them as close (at least in gamzees mind) and establishes a rift in that relationship, but theres also things like the conversation gamzee and terezi have about playing the game together, that while not about karkat explicitly, kind of centers him from both ends and is literally sandwiched between the introductions of these two, which to me sets up the assumptions that their dynamic is going to hole relevance, which we end up seeing later on. dare i say that gamzee/terezi conversation even kind of ends up being the earliest nod that both of these trolls are in some way vying for karkats attention. theres like plenty more of these moments of association but im not willing to go looking atm, get back to me. good way to read the comic in general though, imo.

and like so its pretty obvious from the start then that gamkar was always going to be something, right? their personalities are written in a way that both compliment and counter each other, and theres that interest then in murderstuck when it is flipped on its head but idk if you go here i think by now it is clear i dont really agree with all of that. my interest lies in the fact that gamzee is the type of person karkat resents because to him, as somebody who both has been denied entry into society and who desperately WANTS it, even to the point of internalizing and glorifying the very oppressive violence that keeps him an outsider, gamzee has Failed. shes an addict, shes stupid, shes toothless, and above all she is weird and wholly unrelatable and karkat is simply not in the position at that stage of his life to sympathize because he is still running on the assertion that the Right way to be a troll is to conform to the expectations of the empire (and prove himself as one of the Good Ones). so when gamzee has their breakdown and all of a sudden karkat is not only unable to shove all of the responsibility he insisted upon onto another person, or ignore the fact gamzee spent all of her time haunting the meteor asking Him for help..... he does it. sort of.

this is kind of the spot where i have the most trouble articulating my thoughts because i guess they are sort of contradictory. because i think the gamkar moirallegience was not only at that point in time important to the integrity of the plot, but has always been an important part of the story in terms of culminating the themes and messaging going on. and i do stand by that, i think on top of the fact we were ROBBED, to erase that without ever addressing any of it again in the retcon is like.... a major misunderstanding of the functionality of the moment in the first place! which like yeah yeah its homestuck we should be used to that. but UGH. it undermined so much of karkats character to retcon what imo was always his peak moment of personal empowerment. everyone talks about karkat as somebody who is deeply caring despite his exterior and like... i do think that is true. but the story simply is Worse from then on having stripped him of the pivitol moment that truly defined that trait as vital to him, and i think it frankly has no small part in why karkat feels like less than a character by the end. that said i dont really think it was a "good" relationship. just not for any of the reasons anyone ever seems to say. so many conversations i see wrt gamkar is people talking about loving it but not the "toxic way it went down in canon", or calling it like mutually abusive, or just in general making karkat out to be some kind of victim of his ex when like......... thats all kind of just completely made up? for starters not that i dont Get it and not that i think it means he was being entirely disingenuous, but from the very beginning karkats establishment of their quadrant was done in a way that centered the people around them, not gamzee. and i say not gamzee exclusively because i think aside from the obvious of keeping their friends safe, karkat was also centering himself; we know the Point of moirallegiance is to keep an unpredictable party "in check", and that is what he did, but i can both understand the functionality of the relationship marker in the context of the universe And understand that to be a means of subjugation of the trolls involved. and karkat, being both obsessed with romance and holding a deep feeling of inferiority, of COURSE would look at this as an opportunity to prove he can live up to that expectation of pacification. we get his side of the story when things fizzle out, gamzees religion apparently becoming such a frontal obsession she doesnt pay him any mind, but we dont get to hear anything from the party whos not only being mind controlled, but also has to approach this dynamic with the knowledge it wasnt for her and that karkat continued to covet terezi "in every quadrant" (LOL!!!!!) when he wasnt openly mocking them. and well i just think that is very interesting. karkat is in a powerful position, narratively, that gamzee is never ever granted, that gives him the benefit of the doubt from the audience that he is right and she is wrong, even though we know that hes like... literally always wrong!!! i am not about to start trusting him NOW!!!

um ok this god long sorry. basically i think they are extremely complimentary to one anothers stories and flaws; karkat desperately needs to see and understand people that vary from the expectations he has grown up chasing. he needs somebody who understands what it is like not to meet those expectations. he needs a reason to choose growth or else he fizzles into the disgusting excuse for a character we have of him by the end! gamzee by contrast needs to be seen by somebody who is both in the position to treat her like a person, who holds power in this narrative they are all trapped within to Grant her the choice of depth. where he needs a reason to grow she needs somebody willing to grow to meet her where she is! you cannot pull somebody from their abuse but you must be willing to understand their reasonings and have a hand at the ready for the day they choose to go! ive never understood the debates surrounding gamzees agency because we are shown explicitly the ways it is denied, and shown her awareness to the fact she is trapped, the fact she is a character and the narrative cannot be upheld without her roles; karkats ability to "help" her to me was never as much a question about whether he could literally get her out of that, but whether he could act as the lens through which people understand gamzees situation As one of coercion. they are utena anthy forever ok im done

summary: Dustin needs you to pick him up from the last game of the Vecna campaign. And you take this as an excuse to see Eddie one more time.

A/N: I haven’t written in over a year so I’m a bit rusty and I’ve also never written for Eddie before so hopefully I did him justice with this. Also, I know Dustin is white so for my fellow poc: step sibling, half sibling, adopted, etc.??? Idk, I honestly feel really bad about it.

Cocking your head to the side, you narrow your eyes onto the man at the head of the table. Eddie Munson.  

Eddie had caught your eye during your senior year of high school. You two had English together, and you had the terrible habit of distractedly watching him when you should've been paying attention to the teacher at the front of the classroom.  

You knew what people said about him, that he was a weirdo, that you shouldn't associate with him, that he was dangerous. You thought that was all bullshit.  

He had the habit of drumming his fingers on his desk to a beat only he could hear. You thought it was endearing and wondered what else those hands were capable of. His eyes had the tendency to wander around the room, caught up in his own world; you always tried to look away in time before he turned your direction and caught on to your staring.  

You always wanted to say something to him, anything! But he was intimidating, and you ran in different social circles, so it was hard to find an excuse to approach him. The only regret you had after graduation was never getting the nerve to speak a word to your year-long crush.  

Yet, here he was, once again drumming his fingers on the table, a smirk on his face as he watched the surrounding Hellfire members. He looked past you for a moment before doing a double-take, holding eye contact and furrowing his brow as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Then, before he could fully process your presence, one of the members called time out.  

Your brother and the rest of the players started to huddle up near you. Dustin sent you a quick, giddy smile, happy that his older sister is here to support him for the last game. They started bickering over strategy, but your attention was solely on Eddie. His gaze never left you, and you realized that this was the first time that you actually maintained eye contact with him. You must admit that you took this opportunity to shamelessly study his face; his brown eyes, the shape of his nose, his plump lips, trying your best to commit it all to memory in case you never got to see him again. You didn't realize it, but Eddie was taking you in too, thinking you must've gotten even more beautiful since the last time he saw you.  

However, as much as Eddie wanted to come running up to you and leave everyone else behind, he was also dedicated to his campaign and was going to see it through to the end. The groups' debating had ceased, and it was Dustin who spoke up.  

"Give me the D20." You sent an encouraging nod to your brother as Eddie tossed him the die from across the table. He rattled it between his hands before finally rolling it onto the table.  

"That's a miss!" Eddie proclaimed upon the die landing with the number 11 facing up. The rest of the team yelled out various profanities, and Dustin knocked a can off the table in frustration.  

All eyes were now on Erica as she shook the die before finally letting go. You could hear the team begging to no one in particular for luck to be on their side. Their pleading worked; the die landed with 20 shown clear and present at the top. Their cheers in celebration rang clear in your ears, and you couldn't help joining them in their joy. Your first instinct was to hug your little brother, who had the biggest smile on his face. Next, you turn to look at Eddie; he notices and simply extends his arms to show off the game with a smile on his face.  

Whenever you looked at him, the rest of the world faded around you, and you hadn't noticed that the rest of the group had started gathering their stuff and leaving in celebration. Dustin asked if you would head out with them, but you shook your head and said you'd leave in a moment. They filed out soon after, and now all you could think of was the fact that it was just you and Eddie in the room. Alone.  

There's a beat of silence before he finally says, "Fancy seeing you here."  

"Dustin wanted me to come." This was true, of course. Well, half-true. He had asked if you could pick him up after the game, but you wanted to stop by a little earlier since you knew Eddie would be there, and your heart still skipped a beat whenever you thought of him.  

"I noticed. I guess I underestimated how many older friends he has." He kept his eyes on you as he cleaned and gathered his stuff.  

You laughed at this because it was true; it seems that Dustin had a multitude of older kids who had taken him under their wing. But you just shook your head and clarified, "Actually, I'm his sister."  

He had started making his way toward you when he gave you a jaw-dropped look of shock, "You're kidding!"  

The look on his face warranted another laugh out of you, "Not at all!"  

"Ha!" Eddie certainly seemed to get a kick out of this, clapping his hands together in amusement, "Well, no offense to the little bro, but you definitely got all the attractive genes." Upon his words, you could feel the heat building up inside, but there was no way you could let him know his offhand comment had any effect on you, so you played it off as casually as you could.  

"Eddie!" You gave a slight shove with a nervous laugh bubbling out of you. He laughed along with you but gave you a brief look of skepticism.  

"You remember my name?" A part of you is taken aback by this.  

"Of course I remember your name. Why wouldn't I?"  

"Well, we only ever had one class together, honestly didn't know you had even noticed me" You wanted to admit that he's all you had noticed. That you spent the entire school year noticing him. Instead, you went the safer route.  

"How could I not notice you? You're Eddie Munson; everyone knows who you are."  

He scoffs at this before adding, "You forgot my middle name, 'the freak.'"  

You frown at this before adding, "I never thought you were a freak, still don't. I actually think you're pretty cool and cute, and I'm glad you created Hellfire. Dustin really feels like he belongs because of you." Eddie had stopped dead in his tracks mid-sentence. You took notice and turned to face him.  

He had a bewildered look gracing his face as he asked, "Wait, hold on, backtrack, you think I'm cute?" Shit.  

"That's the only thing you picked up on?" You tilted your head as you looked up at him, half hoping that he'd drop it.  

"It's the only important thing you said. So, please elaborate." Now you were cornered, but you could use this to your advantage, so why not be honest?  

"Well yeah, I mean, look at you, your hair, your smile, everything about you is attractive." You didn't want to add that he had caught your eye since you first saw him. That even after you left Hawkins to go to college, you always compared all the other guys to him, and none of them held up a candle to the way he made you feel. And feelings he did elicit, ranging from lovestruck to frustration to lust; the whole spectrum, truly.  

"You're joking, right? This is like a year late senior prank?" You wish you could've laughed at that, but there was a look in his eyes that told you he really was unsure whether you were joking or not. It was disheartening.  

Resisting the urge to reach out and place a comforting touch on his arm, you said, "No, why would you think that?"  

"Because there's no way that quiet miss goody two shoes thought about me that way." You couldn't help the loud laugh that forced its way out this time. If only he knew some of the ways you thought about him.  

"Please, I may have been quiet, but I'm no saint."  

His eyes did a once over while he shook his head, "I call bull." You rolled your eyes at this.  

"You don't believe me?" You raised an eyebrow at him, almost daring him to challenge you on this.  

Eddie was shaking his head again, a chuckle making its way past his lips, "Never in a million years." Now, an idea came to mind, a risky one, but what's life if not full of risks?  

"Why don't you invite me over to your place then, and we'll see if I can change your mind?" There it was, out in the open. Finally voicing the intentions you've had for well over a year now. You don't miss the way Eddie's eyes widen, his mouth slightly gaped open before closing and nervously swallowing. The silence is almost unbearable.  

"Well, are you gonna say something or just leave me hanging?" You notice he's drumming his fingers again, this time against the denim fabric covering his thigh. He finally takes a moment to look you in the eye, a smile growing on his face. Then, extending his arm towards the door, he finally says:  

"Lead the way, darling. Prove me wrong."

Dion song associations - lightning round!

"Line Without a Hook" By Ricky Montgomery; water themings and longing vibes made me just kinda latch this song onto Dion for no real reason. it vibes.

"The Kids Aren't Alright" by Fallout Boy; this one vibes so hard actually. I don't have an infodump as to why it's connected I just think the refrain fits Dion pretty well.

"Semi-Automatic" by 21 Pilots. "The family will be better off when YOU'RE out!" Dion you mean little bitch. You mean little asshole I am going to crumple you like a piece of paper. Oughhhh

"Dazed & Confused" by Ruel is such a HUGE Dion/Gisu song to me. Just. Dion grappling with his bigotry and what Gisu's actually like,,, the BRIDGE oh my godddddd this is. You get the vibes right

Something about these lyrics just,,,, I might have to do a full infodump on the vibes I get and the animatic I imagine but stuff like "I don't want to be heard / I want to be listened to" and "I took some food for thought / it might be poisoned / the stomach in my brain / throws up onto the page" and like. The whole bridge but especially "Something happened to my imagination / this situation's becoming dire / my treehouse is on fire / and for some reason I smell gas on my hands" and Dion growing up too fast because of her parentification. I just. I just. oughhh

"Way Less Sad" by AJR. Yeah it's really easy to make AJR songs vibe but like. This one definitely vibes with Dion. She's getting better but it's slow. It's not an easy process.

"World's Smallest Violin" by AJR. I think about that ending bit so much. I think about it and my Dion brain ideas so much. And like. Yeah Dion's got issues but so does the whole family!! So Dion feeling like his issues are small and unimportant in comparison to everyone else's but still needing to vent. mm

"MANiCURE" by Lady Gaga. Again this is both vibes and "Dion would listen to this and enjoy it. Dion would sing this to themself under their breath while working" and I am RIGHT.

"Sorry About Your Parents" by Icon For Hire. This is another vibes one, mostly the whole vibe of "yeah shit sucks but you can't just lay around crying about it because that's no way to live" and how that fits Dion in my mind. Also the song is a bop.

"Pieces" by Icon for Hire because yes. This fits Dion so so well oh my godddddd like just. "You can fight just like you've been taught / it won't undo the life you've got / Cause the pieces won't pick up themselves you know" and "You're not running just enough of a wreck / to hold the hurt heart everybody expects" and I'm going to explode this is such a Dion song to me AUGH

"Venom" by Icon for Hire. Yes I know I just put down three Icon songs in a row I'm going in the order of my playlist. Anyway. "Misery, Misery is the venom in my brain" and "Don't meet their eyes, it's hypnotic / make you forget that it's toxic / caught up in all the chaotic / sold you a lie and you bought it" and "I can't tell if it's real though / Don't know if it's lethal / did we drink the poison / or just a placebo?" and "Don't look down / you won't get far / you're only as strong as you think you are" and this is a Dion song. Yes I know I didn't explain it well but you gotta trust me on this.

"Allies or Enemies" by The Crane Wives. This is a Dion & Raz reconciliation song and I will not hear otherwise. "The words I speak are wildfire and weeds / they spread like some awful damn disease / I swear I didn't mean what I said / I swear I didn't mean it" and the way that Dion's so mean to Raz, the flicker of regret on his face after telling Raz the family would be better off without him, augh augh augh. And then "Remember when I could tell you not to smile when you were mad? / And you would always crack / and we'd both be laughing in the end" THEY USED TO BE SO CLOSE BUT "And now you're not so quick to forget" THEY'RE NOT ANYMORE. And then just,,, "I'll admit I've had my doubts / But I want to be let in, not out" and the refrain as Dion and Raz being able to reconcile and try again, ough ough aughhhhh

"Disco in the Panic Room" by Bug Hunter. Definitely a Dion song. Like. Look at this kid. Look at this kid with his struggles and anxieties and tell me that this song doesn't fit him. "If I look cool I'm fooling you / at any point you can assume / my mind's computing every path that screws up what I wanna do" and "I made a promise / now I feel nauseous... I'm honestly exhausted" and "The things that I can't shoulder well / I pass onto my older self / and hope I learn to cope so I don't end up broke or overwhelmed" and I just. this whole song is a bop and it fits Dion so well

"Problems" by Mother Mother. Dion would listen to this. Dion would vibe to this and this song lowkey vibes to him and yeah,,,

"It's Alright" by Mother Mother. DION WOULD VIBE TO THIS SONG AND I AM RIGHT. He would hear this and it would hit his chest and he'd listen to it unironically I am correct. "Oh hey / I had a night I had a day / I did one million stupid things / I said one billion foolish things / I'm not okay" like. That's a Dion line right there.

That's not every song on my playlist bc some are more AU-related or harder to explain, but it's most of them I think.
