Okay, so I have a fic stuck in my brain now that I’m back on my Rumbelle kick, but stick with me:

Season 1 but in more of an American Appalachian/Ozark vibe instead of Maine

Belle is Mayor and Rumple is Weaver (also Regina as Roni because Roni)

Belle absorbed the Dark One power to save Rumple from himself, but his cursed self doesn’t remember any of that (and still thinking he’s the all powerful dark one)

Belle helps Drizella/Ivy cast a Dark Curse so Rumple can find his son and have his happy ending

She keeps Rumple/Weaver at arms length, aka an informant, to keep him from the truth (a la Dark Swan)

Lots of longing and angst

Also CuriousArcher because they deserved more than s7 had to offer

while I do like the added dialogue between Sally and Percy in the minotaur scene, namely Sally's speech to Percy telling him to hold fast, I really wish the scene had more of the urgency that it did in the book. Like Grover's heavily injured to the point of incoherency, Sally and Percy literally have to drag him up the hill, and that's when they're overtaken by the minotaur. In the show, having them all come to a grinding standstill and Grover being fully alert like "sorry I know we're being chased by certain death but your mom's human so she can't come :/" was kind of adflksadfjasdf

oh and in the book Percy doesn't immediately pass out. Instead, Percy doesn't let himself until he's hauled Grover over the boundary line and all the way to the big house because he needs help and it's only then does Percy finally collapse. and idk just the imagery of it all -- Percy crying for help, for his mother -- it always stuck with me and I wish they hadn't taken it out.

#listen I know even the book Sally was like /I can't go on the property/ #but theoretically Grover could have granted her permission the same way Annabeth does for Tyson in som #Grover was just literally passed out and could not #so having Grover be awake and just be like /yeah that's a bummer huh/ made him seem strangely apathetic to it lmaoo #also I'm not saying the scene was bad!!! my gripes are mostly personal preference #I think the added dialogue with sally and percy was beautiful and could have been woven into a more book accurate portrayal of the scene #sally jackson #pjo adaptation #pjo #percy jackson #grover underwood #mine

i want to be more open to anything and everything and i’m scared

#i’ve just felt at a sort of breaking point for a few weeks #and it’s really hard it’s about a lot of stuff that feels hard to fully articulate #& i don’t really feel like i can talk to anyone fully about it because it’s hard #to describe the extent of constant grief & also like. neurotocisms that have woven their way into my understanding of like #*neuroticisms #my own fate fundamentally yknow #there have been many moments of beauty and stuff i feel my hand is still in the weave sometimes #but i really need some things to feel different and be different #i have lost so much and so many people the last few years and literally ALL of my relationships have changed #and i feel like i’m really searching for sometning that i lost #and i have been missing my mom #i lack any sense of deep comfort in my life and i want to just feel held and understood even for a moment #and i don’t feel like i have anyone to point me in a direction that i agree with it’s hard to know what to want and how to want it

OOF, we've started to hit "scenes that have aged like milk with the full context of river's reveal!" the doctor speaking with SUCH condescending certainty that river could never be his equal, could never in the world measure up to him in terms of space-time complexity, when arguably river is That And More...i feel two kinds of ways about this, one very colored by my doctor/river softness, one very colored by my writer brain frustration. i shall start with the first one.

i do think that there exists a way to read this as the doctor continuing to write off river and refuse to admit that she could be A Person to him. he doesn't know her, so he does not know enough to make this call, and to tell her she doesn't know what she's talking about when he Doesn't Know Her is patently absurd. he's been digging himself into defensive anger all of this episode, all while floating around her like a lil satellite, not wanting to admit that he does actually absolutely like her, so i do think he would be off-the-cuff harsh with her in a moment like this! plus of course he has another plan + he is not one to let people sacrifice themselves for him when he can avoid it, so character-wise, this tracks.

but the thing is, river is right! and the fact that the narrative sorta has her put up these garden-variety protestations instead of having her go "you really have no fucking clue what you're talking about" yet again showcases the weakness of shifting all melody pond hints all the way into season six, and making all of these hints so tiny that no casual viewer could conceivably knit them all together! this was a moment that needed a hint, and the fact that it doesn't have one turns it into this brutal and uncomfortable dismissal both upon first watch and rewatch.

first watch, the doctor is flat-out saying "you're not as important as me" to someone he's ostensibly starting a flirtationship with, and he is constantly saying things like this to river -- i'd never trust you, you embarrass me, why did you have to be this, etc. which is just VISCERALLY uncomfortable to sit with when we just do not get nearly enough tenderness between them to counterbalance... all of that! (we get tenderness and flirting and silliness, but none of it really outweighs how awful some of the things he says to her are!)

rewatch, WE KNOW RIVER IS RIGHT. full stop. she is a complicated space time event on a level that gets frankly ridiculous. maybe the doctor's been doing this for longer but i truly don't think (at least in new who, can't speak for classic) that anyone's timeline is as consistently fucked and nonsensical as river's. so when the doctor dismisses her and she just keeps going "but i don't want you to die!!!" that seems wildly inconsistent with river's character (or, at the very least, how the narrative seems to want us to view river) -- she definitely keeps her cards close to her chest, but if the doctor is in danger and she knows that her life will work as well as his, she will Literally Die For Him to preserve the timeline. as has been shown to us in the library. this is a moment where i truly think that a consistently written river would have dug her heels in and brought up, rightly, that he does not know her and does not know enough about her to make that call. (and that in itself would feed so beautifully into the doctor's anger/insecurities around not knowing who she is, and being drawn to her despite that! they could start having another married couple fight in front of the angels! so many things are possible that would make this make more sense!)

i think what i am going to keep coming back to over and over is that we did not get enough time with river to make this story feel consistent and planned. we have the skeleton of a story, but we needed foreshadowing, filler moments, episodes where river is just there kinda fucking around with the crew and establishing a rapport with amy and rory. she is simultaneously incredibly important to the doctor and the ponds and a complete stranger who breezes in here and there, and there's more that could be done with that! maybe with LESS of the doctor being a dick to her. (or, at least, same amount of the doctor being a dick to her, but much more of their loosely sketched s7 dynamic, where it's clear he adores her and always hears her and would give up years of his life just to make her feel a tiny bit better!)

Misc daily life images

#image commentary in tags once again since they don't allow captions anymore and I feel weird using the alt text for that -- #1. COLUMBINEEEE... (I think..???) one of my favorite flowers... I managed to grow a small one in a pot last year. huzzah #2. spicy soup for lunch (another very rare lunch since I usually eat literally the same exact thing every day for my stomach #issues and stuff lol).. also made a fruit smoothie but put tapioca boba in it out of curiosity.. which was weird #3. woven cucumber shavings.. one of the many little meticulous tasks that I find oddly fun and could probably do for hours #4. A RED FOUR LEAF CLOVER!!!! There are some patches of clover in the yard that have weird red coloring and red spots on them #almost like it's some sort of damage or something but it seems natural (and I wonder if it has to do with plants that grow around them at #all since these 'green clovers but where some of them are variously spotted in red' patches happen to be next to patches of weeds/ #grouncover that also have red stems and stuff.) but so in the yard it is rare to find a red clover #and also rare to find a four leaf clover. so a RED four leaf clover is the most rare... special child.. #5. bapy son on the heating pad (featuring my stinky little toast shaped 2ds lol... i wonder if theyve been obsolete so long that maybe #3ds are actually affordable now (under $100).. hrmm...) #6. Another wii fit mingame score. I'm not sure if this is even lower than the other ones or anything. I never go back to compare them lol #if a score seems good enough to possibly be my best I just take apicture of it anyway. I should probably at some point check what #the 'best' even actually is. I wish the wii always told you ur Best score instead of just your Last score on those games. AMAZING. Literally amazing. Like, easily one of my top 5 reads this year amazing. Never in a million years would I have predicted a sequel to be better than the original, and let's be clear. I adored the first book! The writing? Chef's kiss👩🏾‍🍳😘The plot? EXCEPTIONAL. The spice??? Out of this god d@mn world😩 And while we're at it, let's have a round of applause for Rosalina's character growth. I honestly thought she was a pretty solid FMC to begin with, but I don't know, something about her growth throughout this book made me love her even more. She's resilient, loving, and knows what she wants, and I'm 100% here for it! Now, let's get into the characters y'all really want to hear about......THE MEN. Amazing. I'm not sure if I have ever loved a a group of fictional men more than I love Rosie's harem. Don't get me wrong, they have their flaws, and some of them are stupidly and selfishly stubborn (Keldarion, this one goes out to you boo!), but I love them all nonetheless. I've said it a million times before and I'll say it again, I like my fictional men moody, stubborn, and wickedly hot. SUE ME🤷🏾‍♀️. I would also like to take this moment to shout out our (supposed) villain, Caspian, Prince of Thorns. Morally gray and hot as all sin. That's it. Let me also toss out a few things this book has:

-4 (5) insanely hot fae princes☑️

-4 insanely hot fae princes that turn into WOLVES☑️

-Faeries☑️✨🧚

Anyways, this book has left me with the biggest book hangover, and book 3 apparently isn't even out until DECEMBER.....pray for ya girl😭

* Just a note to check the trigger warnings. There is some mention of past trauma and abuse from a previous relationship our FMC was in. So if that's not your thing, maybe stay clear. Although, I didn't think it was anything too heavy. But then again, I'm more of a 'the darker the better' kinda girl👀
