I thought the moon spirit and the ocean spirit were gonna be Katara and Sokka, and that would’ve made ATLA even more interesting.
The spirits of the ocean and moon gave up their immortal forms to live on the earth. Why would they choose to be koi fish?
It would make much more sense for those spirits to take an avatar-like spirit form where they attach to different members of the Water Tribe. Always pushing and pulling at one another, of course the spirits would attach to a brother and sister.
Katara, being the water bender, would naturally be the moon spirit. Sokka would be the ocean spirit. But they had no idea.
So if they were the spirits instead of the koi fish, the story would’ve become much more layered.
And way darker.
When the Fire Nation invaded the Northern Water Tribe at the end of season 1, Admiral Zhao intended to kill the moon spirit. Let’s say somehow Zhao had figured out Katara was the moon spirit, and followed her north with Aang. So to kill the moon spirit, he would kill Katara.
After killing Katara, of course that would set off Aang’s avatar state and the water monster form.
Yue would still give up her life to bring back the moon, but she would be giving her life for Katara. This would absolutely destroy Sokka. First he loses his sister. Then the girl he loves gives her life for his sister.
After this, Sokka and Katara would simultaneously have a closer and more strained sibling bond. Sokka becomes even more protective to make sure he never loses Katara again. But he also resents her for being the reason he lost Yue. Katara would be wracked with guilt over this.
It becomes the source of tension between the two of them that builds throughout season 2 before coming to a head, where Sokka and Katara have a massive falling out. Katara says Sokka blames her for Yue’s death. Sokka admits it. They trade hurtful comments that cut deeper and deeper every time. While this is going down, they’re on a boat, and the waves surrounding them are getting more and more treacherous. They’re pushing and pulling at one another, just like the moon and sea. Then to save themselves, literally, they have to make amends to calm the sea around them.
It would’ve added so many more layers to their already complicated relationship.
It’s (to me) such an obvious choice to make Katara and Sokka the moon and ocean spirits, I feel like the writers HAD to have considered it! If they did, I get why they went a different direction. Having Katara die, even temporarily, never would’ve been allowed by Nickelodeon. ATLA is already pretty dark for a kid’s show.
If their target audience had been just a bit older, I truly think the writers could’ve run with that plotline.

Hey there, Beifong family enthusiast!
Who's your favorite Beifong? And who do you ship them with?
First of all, I already love you to the 'yue' and back for this ♡ Ty, I'm virtually holding your hand rn!
"Who's your favorite Beifong?" Now that.. requires a huge @$$ long answer, babe! Grab a coffee and seat down. ☕️ — I have three different answers to this, organized by category, because I can't simply just choose one Beifong, so.. ◇ My favorite based on "emotional attachment" is definitely Suyin (kinda of an unpopular choice). I simply can't help but love every aspect of her, she's so beautiful, bright and collected - I love how against all odds she overcame her traumas the healthiest way she could, rebuilt her whole life, never gave up on reconnecting with the people she loved and missed after all, etc. I have an immense amount of respect for her - she's the personification of growth, maturity and forgiveness. And I love that for her for many reasons! Her adult self reminds me a bit of Sokka in a way, that probably helped to establish my "emotional attachment" towards her as well! ◇ My favorite based on "complexity and strength" would be obviously Lin. Lin is the character I validate and understand the most too, I enjoy analyzing her whole story and personality. I'm a Psychology student, so it makes sense to me that I loved her instantly and so much (apart from being a Toph seed), she was presented to us as the typical tough character ofc but I was amazed how many layers she turned out to have, how profound and complicated her traumas, choices and path turned out to be. I love and respect Lin for reasons that are completely different from Su (they are completely opposites). Lin's psychological strength (physical too, ofc), courage and endlessly emphaty always get me. I would fight anyone just to protect her! ◇ And of course, my number one girl.. Ultimate Favorite in the entire franchise.. the ORIGINAL Beifong; TOPH!! I don't even think I need to explain myself on this one, do I?? Everything I listed about her daughters comes from Toph Beifong and even her imperfections are kinda perfect to me, she is one of the most brilliant characters in the franchise hand down. In fact I believe their daughters inherited a lot of Toph's values, beliefs and characteristics. They are her legacy in a way, probably part of the reason I love them so much too. But anyways.
That's my favorite Beifong; TophLinSu!♡
"And who do you ship them with?" That's piece of cake! For Su; Suyin/Baatar Sr. ◇ For Lin; Linzin & Kyalin, maybe Linzumi too — I do think Lin & Tenzin are soulmates who could never be though (This is actually a can of worms, 'cause I have A LOT to say regarding this entire ship!). ◇ And for Toph; Tokka yesterday, Tokka today and Tokka for always!♡ I can't actually picture Toph with anyone else, for some reason. I tried (with her other love interests and all).. But It's just not it for me. Kanto we've never even seen & Satoru was more of a simp - nothing against it but it kills the mood for me that he's a fanboy who'd spend their whole relationship praising her & kissing the ground she steps on, not into that for Toph (or any human being) in a relationship. — While with Sokka (even tho it was just a childhood crush & he was a bit older) I think they were a perfect match for a future relationship; They were opposites in the right amount, but also pretty similar (in terms of sense of humor and some values). I love how they completed each other in their dynamic, how Sokka was so kind, supportive and understanding - they had a real profound bond and he was always offering to help her out (if needed) or trying to protect her, even tho she hated to be treated like that; he was her exception. And Toph genuinely respected him (jokes apart) & would consider his opinions, even embracing his stupid ideas. It was simple and sweet. Not to mention the fact that Sokka would never pick fights with her (not that I remember), whenever Katara would ask him to intervene in their fights he'd be like "Nah, leave me out of this" and I do think that that's what intrigued Toph, he would listen to her & validate her feelings since Day 1. Then we cut to TLOK; at Yakone's trial when Sokka is giving that sentenced speech and start praising Toph for developing the Metalbending skill by herself; his facial expression immediately changes to something more affectionate (genuinely smiling at her), then Old Toph telling Korra about when she taught Aang earthbending and feeling the need to mention what happened to Sokka that day (should've been insignificant, but she kept that memory from that day) and then Suyin & Lin's small details or characteristics that were related to Sokka in ATLA (Like their usage of adapted metal swords to fight, Su's collection of meteorites, how Sokka was always praising Toph for inventing the Metalbending and later Su building a whole city out of it where Toph's achievement would be praised and immortalized for once and all, not to mention Su & some members of the family looking like Sokka, I'm pretty sure that was purposely done by the creators in a way to keep Sokka's design, idk & it makes me the happiest that it was done in the Beifong family). It's impossible not to acknowledge the impact Sokka had on Toph, they truly loved each other and loved being around each other. Romantically or not, canon or not - it's impossible for me not to ship them.♡

What does Jiang think of Macaque?
Ying Yue had mixed thoughts at first from the stories the gang told her and what the jttw book said. She at first believed him to be like Wukong with no morals, but after hearing the play she realized he was much more complicated.
Ying greatly admires and loves certain things about Macaque.
She also deeply hates some of his more serious flaws.
But at the core, Ying relates to his feelings of hate at being abandoned and not being valued. She knows he can be better, he just needs a shove in the right direction and a shoulder to cry on.
...
And some small ass kicking for his more egregious crimes.
But Ying promises that she will always have his back, she will never leave him behind.

Misunderstandings, Miscommunications, and Misbeliefs
I spent a liushenweek drawing because Practice Makes Perfect????? Back to meta post to stretch these meta muscles again haha
So… there was a comment somewhere on some writing/book channel that ‘misunderstandings’ is like a pet-peeve/least favourite troupe. And I get it. Badly executed misunderstandings is super annoying. It’s like… ‘why is this stupid plot device here other than to make the story longer’. But I think mxtx does misunderstandings brilliantly, and here’s some ideas on why.
Btw, the ‘misunderstanding’ trope is when character A and B fail to communicate and important Thing, which causes Problems. You know, SQQ convinced that LBH is out to kill him, LBH convinced SQQ hates him for being a demon for TWO GODDAM BOOKS *screams in agony in the pits of hell*
Misunderstandings and misbeliefs
(In my humble view) one of the central things about mxtx’s big misunderstandings is that they are fundamentally connected to the character’s misbelief. Misbeliefs are important peeps (find out more on How to Find Your Character's MISBELIEF (or Fatal Flaw) - YouTube) (Another great writing channel btw). It’s what drives character development.
A good example is Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan. SJ believes that YQY abandoned him, which is connected to his misbelief that he is unlovable and alone. He believes YQY abandoned him not (just) because YQY doesn’t tell him what happened, but because fundamentally, he believes everyone will abandon him. Meanwhile, YQY doesn’t tell SJ about the events in the Lingxi caves because his misbelief is that his failure makes him detestable. He’s a protective person who feels responsible for those around him, and judges himself harshly for his limitations. Thus he misunderstands Shen Jiu’s rejection as a judgement of his failure, rather than a fear of abandonment. The key point is that the misunderstanding goes far beyond the initial lack of communication. So it’s not just ‘here’s a plot device to make things complicated’. It tells you a lot about the characters involved.
Miscommunicating on a Wendy’s Parking Lot
To follow up, any character’s miscommunication should make sense within their character profile.
Why does Shen Qingqiu not just tell Luo Binghe that he didn’t want to shove him down the Abyss? Because he’s always putting on an act. 24/7. Hiding his feelings is his trademark.
Why does Lan Wangji not just tell Wei Wuxian about his feelings? Because he just doesn’t say anything that doesn’t need to be said. Ever.
Why does Mu Qing not just tell Xie Lian he wants to be friends? Because he’s prickly and defensive and expects everyone to laugh at him.
It’s not just ‘they failed to communicate this one time’. It’s ‘they always fail to communicate with each other, and this happens to be a time where it blew up into a Thing’.
The opposite to this is conveying a character’s deeper feelings/trauma through miscommunication.
WWX initially comes across as an easy-going, open person, who’s not afraid to say his thoughts even in the face of authority. But there are things he just Never Mentions, one of the key ones being the events surrounding his golden core. His silence on particular topics says volumes about how they affected him, because it doesn’t fit his surface level character profile. You know losing his golden core wasn’t a walk in the park, because it changes him so much. It also tells you something deeper about his character – his self-sacrificial nature, how he downplays his achievements, and how he takes these to a level that is detrimental to him.
So in other words, mxtx shifts away from ‘misunderstanding for the sake of plot development’ to misunderstanding as a consequence of a character trait. And character traits should have consequences! This is very important. (Making a character ‘clumsy’ and it having no consequence to the story is stupid.)
A short point on theme
Here’s a video on using misbeliefs to write theme into your story: How to Write THEME Into Your Story - YouTube. Long story short, easy way to integrate theme into story is to turn the theme upside down and make it your main character’s misbelief. SQQ’s misunderstanding of LBH’s motives is a plot driver for ∞ly many books and weaves very obviously into the ‘see people as more than their role in a story’ theme.
(The other two books don’t fall into this pattern quite as neatly, layering themes in different ways, although I’m sure there are things to pick out if you wanted to.) (On an offhand meta note actually, through three books, mxtx goes from misunderstandings driving a large portion of the plot to almost no misunderstandings at all??? Or at least, that’s the impression I got. Like the identity shenanigans in tgcf weren’t really misunderstandings and more like everyone being deliberately sneaky. I wonder what her latest series will be like.)
If Only They Just Talked With Each Other… not
I think what makes the ‘misunderstanding’ trope annoying is that it feels so arbitrary. The characters tell each other The Big Secret they’ve been hiding and then everyone moves on like nothing happened, leaving you thinking ‘well what was the point?’ Meanwhile, mxtx’s misunderstandings are deep, ugly, and painful. They develop into rifts between characters that cannot be fixed by just telling each other The Big Secret.
For example, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng. In the end, JC learnt about the golden core. Did it fix everything? No. Because JC already knew WWX cared about his adopted family. He already knew the WQ and WN had helped them. Knowing that WWX and the Wens had helped him to a far greater extent than he initially thought would not have made his decision to cut off WWX in any way easier – the rest of the cultivation world would still have hated the Wens, he still had a sect to protect. Hey, this knowledge would only have made his decision even more difficult to make!!! WWX knew this. JC realised this. When JC learns the truth, he basically has a breakdown.
Talking to each other is the start of the healing process. But one conversation most certainly isn’t going to fix things. Note that this relies on the points above. The misunderstanding is so significant because it is interwoven so heavily into the character’s traits, flaws, and misbeliefs. Overcoming the miscommunication forces character development (which should be done with all the care that character development deserves).
Mxtx’s misunderstandings are never really ‘fixed’, and certainly never forgotten. You might see them on the path of healing and understanding, like SQQ and LBH. Or with SJ and YQY, you’re just left with a bitter aftertaste in your mouth. They’re never arbitrary, and that’s what makes them significant.
hmmm... I’m not 100% happy with this post for some reason.
Anyway, comments and criticisms very very welcome!

My reaction to TGCF Season 2 Ep 6 Reaction (Part 1)
*novel spoilers under the cut*
After two long and torturous weeks, season 2 is back! Also I missed doing this and glad that people found them enjoyable!
Tumblr media
FLASHBACK??
Ok I will say, seeing the Fangxin Guoshi design animated looks way better. Was not really sure of it at first, but it has grown on me surprisingly fast. I really like the robes, but it’s giving Hawkmoth
Tumblr media
Yo it’s Lang Qianqiu’s little guy! Also my son I feel you, I too fall asleep when doing boring work
Tumblr media
Xie Lian do be adopting all them kids huh
It’s also a bit strange seeing Xie Lian like this, as in playing a mentor role. Not that it’s a bad thing or anything, but I’m so used to seeing him act the way he does in majority of the story (he does act quite different in Book 2 and 4, but it’s due to the circumstances that I understand why, and you follow him through it for a long time that you get used to it)
I guess what I’m trying to say is that seeing him this way is strange to me since you really don’t follow him when he was State Preceptor of Yong’An, you really only get one flashback of it and it’s done.
The only other time was with Ban Yue and Pei Xiu, but he was more like a silly father figure, you know? And here with Qianqiu he’s more stern and serious.
And not him asking Qianqiu THAT question. Poor Xie Lian do be like his parents, aka both his birth parents and Jun Wu/Mei Nianqing (fight me but JunMei being so divorced and trying to guide Xie Lian their way and trying to take custody of him is so funny)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oof
Tumblr media
FANGXIN?? ZHUXIN??? Whatever the fuck it’s called now. I love the design so much, but damn once you know about it, :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I forgot how complicated the whole Gilded Massacre was, it’s been so long since I last read that arc.
Tumblr media
Jun Wu really needs to stop manspreading my god. Stop being so alpha
“Not with that backing!”
You right, Jun Wu obviously playing favorites. Like, at the very least hide it a bit, why don’t you?
Tumblr media
😳
Ok not trying to simp on main, but hearing Xie Lian so confidently say to LQQ that if they fight, LQQ would undoubtedly lose? Xie Lian really is the strongest martial god, even with the cursed shackles. Nobody can win against Xie Lian, except for Jun Wu
I understand Hua Cheng

Willy and Lan Yue belong to @noa-de-cajou !
_________
"Pssst, Emerens-"
He's standing next to me, so awkward in his costume that's not supposed to be worn by seven years old children. We had to be very slick to not be noticed by mom or his dad, because they don't like us playing together ; it is why he stills speaks on a low tone, even now.
I turn my head towards him, still amazed at how similar we look. He's my cousin, but we share so much physical traits people sometimes mistook him as my brother. Mum and uncle hate it.
"yea ?"
"I saw Elvira getting out of her room and I have Carlijn's suitcase. Let's go dress up."
He asks me to dress up a lot. We both like this game. Elvira's dresses suit him, better than they suit me, and we have fun going through mom's makeup palette. Once I did his nails, and I never saw a bigger smile on his face since.
So of course I'm gonna say yes.
Who am I to say no to a smile?
***
"So this is not a phase ?"
We are sitting on my hospital bed. Elvira and Carlijn brought them in complete illegality to see me, and I know from the countless missed calls I am still hearing from my sister's brand new phone that it is gonna be nasty when they all get back, but I feel the selfish inclination to still be happy. I see so few people during my recovery.
They are looking at me, anxious, while I am telling them about all the people I talk to in the geriatric pole of the hospital. Gay people, trans people, and so many other words I wasn't aware of.
When I talked about some of my favorite stories, the ones of the girls that are boys that are neither and that are happy, they told me they were feeling this way too, and weren't sure if it was normal. So I could tell them of the people who discovered that is was.
I shrugged.
"I don't know. Maybe. I'm not in your head. i'm just telling you there are people like that."
"... I thought I was the only one, that it wasn't normal to... Not feel that your body is your body. Or that it was, but not like this. It's complicated..."
"Yeah, I didn't get it at first, either. You want me to introduce you ? Mr Hunchausen is adorable, I'm sure he would be happy to talk to you too."
A tiny smile grew on their lips.
"Yes, please."
***
"My name is Willelmien, by the way."
We met for Christmas, like every year. I'm back from Saint-Cyr, feeling the weight of the first year without Thibault, and seeing my cousin is probably one of the biggest if not the only joy of those holidays.
Her hair is a bit longer, as long as someone who appears as a boy could wear without nasty looks. It looks nice on her. I want to let mine grow too, but mom never agreed. She says it's unprofessional.
Hearing that made me smile.
"New name ? It's cute."
"Thank you, thank you. Also, look at this !"
She shows me her hand, hidden under a winter glove she didn't bother to remove before now. Under it is fingers laced with a beautiful ring, adorned with a splendid green nail polish. It matches our eyes.
"Wow ! It looks so cool!"
"I bought it myself, she said, brimming with pride. I saved all my Christmas money for this, but it was worth it. Mom and dad can't see it, tho. Please just pretend I'm cold if they ask."
Fair enough. Mother and father wouldn't like that either. I remember the time they caught me in the bathroom holding mother's lipstick. I will never forget father's stern lecture about how boys don't play with makeup. I can undernstand why she didn't want to be a boy anymore. Can girls be more left alone about that?
This is not only at home, though. Saint-Cyr is worse. We can't hug, we can't kiss, we can't laugh. And I miss my friends so dearly.
I really hope she won't live the same thing.
***
I landed in the hospital again. This time for an entirely different reason.
Everything hurts. I prefered when it was nothing.
This time I can't roam around free, or talk to people, or listen to stories. I can only read in my corner, too much in pain to pick up a pen again, and too unstable for visits. At least that's what they said.
The doctor still comes by sometimes, tells me he found a good edition company for my book, that they promised to read it in behalf of their good relations to the hospital.
I miss them so much.
But as much as I want to see her, I hope for nothing more than the fact she isn't in that hospital.
***
How many years has it been ?
I grew up so much since our times together. We weren't older that twelve when I said my goodbyes, and years later when I finally landed in France, I expected it to be forever.
And yet, after "van Heel, Emerens" the list calls for "van Heel, Willelmien" and there she is in the gymnasium, taller and leaner and so much happier than last time we saw each other. She heard my name and my Ultimate too, and she is searching in the room, too far away for me to see her face but yes not enough to miss the frenzy in her movements.
Finally, our eyes meet. And on her face appears the biggest smile I have ever seen.
Mine is probably the same.
***
Hope's Peak is both an enter towards future and a jump back in the past. I indulged in both during the past week, meeting new people, making new friends, and making up for lost time with my most beloved, my Sharon that, too, grew up so, so much.
And now I am with Willy talking about what has been, and she laughs when I mention my first attemps to play an electric guitar, funny enough for me to land my first time with a girl. People already know us as "the siblings of the school". I do nothing to correct them.
We sit on that bench near the sakura trees. After my exposition of pride about my books and my musical talent, all the art I let myself thrive in after all those years, she boasts about her skills in make-up, care and all the things that earn a woman the title of socio-esthetician.
"And grandma promised to pay for all my hormone replacement therapy," she says with that huge, sunny smile. "She doesn't understand a lot about transidentity, but she is so much better than the other old fucks. Living at her place really was an upgrade, you have no idea!"
She does not talk about how she landed at her maternal grandparents, as I do not talk about Saint-Cyr. I know that she knows, and she knows that I know. There is no need to open up old wounds. I hide mine too well under bands, and her under makeup.
"Old money paying for transness, best revenge ever, right ?"
I wink while saying that, and she laughs.
"Oh, fuck yes. Sadly that's not the van Heels', that would have been a huge slap in dad's face. But, eh, good enough. Still, can't depend on them for everything. I'm out of the will for sure now, and soon enough I'll have to earn my own shit..."
"Need some help in the meantime?"
A fist come hitting me right in the shoulder, his strenght countered by a hearty laugh.
"Oh come on, I do not need another trust fund! Don't worry about me, I'll manage. But I appreciate it, though. One of those days, when I'll be broke, old and unable to work, I'll aim for your bank account, pinky promise!"
That's the kind of promise I do not want to see broken.
***
"Say, Willy, how do you feel about having a girlfriend ?"
My dearest cousin sighs dramatically for the third time this day.
"Oh, please don't ask me! I'm DESPERATE for a relationship, and I can't spend my life in nightclubs like you do, I'll never get to your level of hoeing!"
"Woooooow. Ru-u-u-u-de!"
"Oh don't be sad, Rapunzel, no one can whore around as well as you do. But back to the matter at hand, why do you bring that on the table?"
I smile, albeit mischeviously.
"I want apologies or I'm not telling~~~~"
Acting like a little shit does earn you good things sometimes, but right now my only victory is Willy pulling on my hair. Not quite a victory per say, but hey, I'm laughing, and she is too.
"Oh come on, I know you take that as a compliment!"
"I do, but the condition still stands, Willelmien~"
"Fine, fine, I'm sorry, you little bitch. Now tell me, you made me curious."
"Good enough."
I stop on my tracks, noticing the silhouette of a splendid young girl, sat on a bench with her laptop. She taps on her keyboard completely ignoring the sunlight, only stopping in her tracks to put back a strand of blue hair behind her ear. Her clothing, not quite fit for january, show off a lot of her stomach, probably the source of protection against the cold. And the looks of countless starstruck ladies, including, I noticed earlier, my very own cousin.
"I have this friend that complained about not finding a girlfriend earlier in the week, and I happen to know a very single girl that could be very interested and is right in front of me..."
Willy burst into laughing.
"You wanna set me up a date ?"
"Not quite, not my job to do all the talking, my dear. But I was considering putting you two in a situation where you could talk, and maybe it would lead to something more... Well, not that something more," I add when noticing Willy's wink. "She's asexual and from what I know, sex is absolutely out of the question."
"Oh, I don't care, I want a girlfriend, not a hookup. Well, I hope she isn't fully exclusive, though. I can bear just fine, but van Heels and sexuality, you know..."
"Oh, I know too well. But she may be your ideal girl, because she's polyamorous as hell. So? Interested?"
I know her well enough to recognise that gleam in her eyes.
"Of course I am. Never thought my cousin would find me a date, the wonder of the world... Sure we're gonna hit it off ?"
I let out a laugh.
"I am never wrong in that kind of things."
And as always, I was right.
Because seeing Willy's smitten smile the morning after, holding Nako's phone number written on a beautiful note in one hand, is enough to lighten my whole week.
***
On the other side of the phone I hear a gasp in astonishment.
"You're coming over at the mansion for Christmas?"
"Elvira asked me, I grunted, trying to hide my frustration. I would have said no, but she already asked the old fuckers, so now I guess I'm expected. Never thought this would happen again, and yet..."
Silence takes place one second or two. Before Willy sighs in the mic, static ringing in my ears.
"I guess that's a good opportunity to convince her to get out of here. She missed you, you know. You may be able to make her realise this is not an environment suit for neither of us."
"That's what I thought. And afterwards, I'll go right to Louna's anyway. Her father is bedridden because of an injury and she wanted to be there all holidays, so I'll spend more time in the family-in-law than those other old bitches..."
Not that I ever wanted to see either of those old bitches ever again. The birth givers, the second roles, Leonard still being a rat and Carlijn probably searching for the best way to annoy her parents without paying attention to us.
At least I'll meet Annelies. From what I've been hearing, she's around six and very much not neurotypical. She'll need someone to gift her dinosaurs until she gets tired of that specific interest, because I'm sure as hell no one with money except Willy would try to listen to her.
And maybe I'll have the occasion to talk to Mareva.
Maybe.
My silence must be revealing, since the phone is not enough to mask Willy's worry.
"Hey, man. If you wanna talk about it, you can. And I promise I'll do what I'm able to for you to spend at least an okay Christmas. I know all the ways to sneak out from that rotten house."
"Don't get yourself in trouble because of me, tho..."
"I'll get in trouble for my very nature, Emerens. Let's get in trouble together."
Somehow, that is the most reassuring thing I have ever heard about that godsdamned Christmas.

"What the actual FUCK ?!"
I grit my teeth. Willy's reaction is exactly the reason I left her out of this, including the whole family trauma and a big ass lack of time. But I had to warn her at some point why we got a completely trauma Elvira staying at Lan Yue's, and also probably why I think they're gonna fuck in the next days or months depending on the situation and I'm not happy about it.
"Yeah. Father went too far this time. i thought he was a goddamn doormat, and yet..."
"This is not going too far, Emerens, this is goddamn illegal. Please tell me you're taking them to court."
"Oh, I will. But not now. I'm giving her, and us, time to recover. We need that. All of us."
Willy clenches her jaw, and sits down next to me, anger still plaguing her face. She is angry after my fuckers of parents, I know that, but that look in her eyes tell me she's also angry at me, and looking back, she has every reason to.
Still, there is no animosity in her attitude when she throws her arm around my shoulders.
"Fuck. This is insane."
"It is. Sorry for keeping you out."
"I am not happy about it, but I understand. This is high-level rich people fuckery. Nobody would involve someone on their own volition in there, even family."
"Especially family."
A sigh escapes my lips, and I let myself lean against her. I won't lie and say I do not need the contact. That was an awful week for me. Productive. But awful.
We got Elvira out of here with enough grounds to get her at least a restraining order against them, or at the very least a serious dent in their reputation. She won't ever return there, and I have one less reason to spend Christmas at the van Heels'. I finally managed to put words on what happened back at Saint-Cyr to another person than Senri and my therapist, and that person is my sisters' crush and one of my best mates.
Still, I feel like I've been dragged to the bottom of a garbage dump. Probably look like it, too.
Luckily for me, Willy does not push further. In place, she smiles, before poking my nose with her long-nailed finger in a classic Willy tease.
"And now Vivi stays at Lan Yuyu's flat? Lucky her."
I roll my eyes so hard I swear I saw the back of my very filthy brain.
"Oh please don't remind me, I am tired of being the overprotective little brother. I've just been so anxious all this time when I heard about their crush on her."
"Why anxious ? We are talking about LAN FUCKING YUE!"
"I know! Imagine if it was anyone else, my heart wouldn't handle..."
"Pitt-bull that you are, Rapunzel. I know she just got out of a very abusive environment, but she'll be fine."
"Yeah, we can only hope."
Because I want to see her fine. I want to see her happy. And Lan Yue can make her happy, I know that, I trusted him with my secrets and I would trust him with my life. I can trust him with my sisters.
I just don't want to lose her again.
Neither of them.
***
The call in the middle of the night took me by surprise, but when I see Willy's name of the screen, I have no choice but to respond. We do not leave family astray. At least, a specific part of family.
Sharon is sleeping next to me. So my first reflex is to rush to the bathroom, the most silently I can, before answering the call.
"Hey, Willy, are you okay-"
I'm cut short by incoherent stammering. Oh, for that nonexistent god's sake, I think she's hyperventilating... Is she having a panic attack ? why is her voice so far from the mic of the phone ? Jesus fuck, if only she wasn't currently in Amsterdam visiting her grandparents, I would have tried to reach her asap, I can't leave her like this...
I hate feeling powerless but in that situation, I can only try and take control of the conversation so she's grounded to something. Jesus Christ.
"Willy, I'm not going anywhere, take a deep breath. There. focus on my voice, okay? Whatever happened, I'll listen, I promise, but i won't be able to help if I don't understand you."
"Emerens-"
She takes a big breath. Her voice gets a little steadier, but I can still hear the anguish.
"I have a half-sister."
Whatever words I had in stock just end up stuck in my throat.
All I can do is hear Willy tell me about how her world ended crumbling.
***
A half-sister. Of course that was expected to happen. Mother noticed, Mareva noticed, of course I noticed my uncle was not as faithful as he appeared to be. It got worse after the old fucks moved to retirement home, when he just stopped caring about gaining something from being good.
I'd never have imagined it was bad to the point he didn't even take precautions.
She's called Rosaline. Pretty name. History student, around Justen's age. The daughter of a maid of their house, probably very young if I judge by the pictures. I wager she was about twenty when that motherfucker knocked her up.
When she reached out to Willy, it was to connect. But also because she heard about the family feud and wanted to drag her asshole father to the mud. So we're gathering proof for the most nasty divorce ever. With maximum consequences for my bitch ass cheater of an uncle.
And now I'm with Willy to meet her because she wanted nobody else around. Maybe because it's not my first trial against a van Heel, I know the drill. Or maybe just because she needed support. Who knows.
"This feels so weird," grunted Willy rubbing her hands against one another. "I'm meeting a sister I never even heard about months ago, and we're doing that to fuck up my parents marriage."
"No offense, but Diederik fucked his own marriage, not us. By fucking other people in his wife's back."
"None taken, and you're absolutely right, that ass had it coming. But it's still weird."
I let out an ironic laugh.
"Think about it that way, Willy, he fucked to much, and now he's gonna get fucked. Karma always comes to bite you in the ass. You can't fuck without being fucked. The eternal cycle of fuck..."
"Says the bottom."
"Bitch I'm a switch?! And I certainly don't want you to find out!"
"Oh, ew, please, no! There is enough incest in this bloodline already!"
We burst out laughing, and that is enough to forget even for one moment the situation we're in.
Family stick out for each other, huh. I didn't think that would happen again in my lifetime, and here I am, happy to be of the same blood of someone.

SJ Returns!AU thoughts & additional story – RE: Yue Qingyuan (ft. Shen Jiu) [Master Post] -------------------
Which was to say, there was much to unpack. Shen Jiu’s return, the fact that he was here and willing to talk to him was nothing short of a miracle. Yet, there were some very complicated feelings to go along with that, and not just about their shared history, either. Because, if he accepted that this young man was the real Shen Jiu (and he did), then… if Yue Qingyuan was truly honest with himself, he wasn’t all that surprised that Shen Qingqiu was someone else. Amnesia from a qi deviation could account for memory loss, but there were things that never made sense no matter how he hoped otherwise.
A good example came from around the time of Tianlang-Jun’s invasion and the knowledge “Shen Qingqiu” had regarding the subject. Inexplicably. Yet, then and even still now, Yue Qingyuan chose trust and acceptance. While he didn’t regret that trust, he couldn’t help feeling a little foolish, knowing that he’d so desperately held onto the hope that Shen Qingqiu was still the same… even with evidence against it. He wanted to believe in the small chance that Shen Qingqiu might suddenly remember. Perhaps his confession on Maigu Ridge was as much a dying man’s desperation as it was confirmation that Shen Jiu was well and truly gone.
But he was there now.
So where did that leave the soul Yue Qingyuan had known for the past dozen years?
He couldn’t help feeling sincere affection for Shen (Yuan) Qingqiu. Even if he wasn’t the man he’d been pretending to be all these years, even if perhaps some of that was misplaced affection for the Original. Shen Qingqiu, by his own merit, was an extraordinarily loyal and caring man, he thought. Perhaps just as extraordinarily flawed, but who was he to judge? Some might argue that he ought to judge a little, but Yue Qingyuan didn’t have the heart. Though, as Sect Leader, he had to take this seriously, too. An imposter had been living among them for over a decade, and no matter how much he liked them… well, at the very least, Yue Qingyuan needed answers.
It wasn’t a possession insofar as any conventional means could detect. So what then? Shen Jiu seemed to be in a similar position, but neither could he explain the details. Well, only time would tell.
The time between Shen Jiu’s arrival and the confrontation with Shen Qingqiu was both indescribably long and far too short. Explaining everything that happened in Shen Jiu’s absence was a horribly awkward task; though at least Shen Jiu could recount some of it on his own, if partially through the lens of rumour and hearsay (also, as far as Shen Jiu was concerned, confirmation that Shen Qingqiu & Luo Binghe had married was enough on that subject). On the other hand, Shen Jiu’s account of his own life…
Yue Qingyuan felt privileged that he was willing to share anything at all. Based on what precious scraps of information Shen Jiu volunteered, his second try sounded far more kind. If anything, he seemed the most put-out that he’d had to suffer being a child again. Yet, in exchange, certain opportunities had been returned to him. So, he came back.
It eased Yue Qingyuan’s heart some.
(If I’m vague about Shen Jiu’s experiences, it’s because I haven’t fully determined what they are yet. I’ve tossed around a few ideas—including one where Qiu Haitang is the person who finds/takes care of freshly-transmigrated Shen Jiu. Which is very tempting, but would require considerable thought & development to make work.)
In any case, as the day of Shen Qingqiu’s visit drew nearer, Yue Qingyuan wasn’t any more certain of how he ought to feel. Shen Jiu asserted firmly that he didn’t want his old body back, which made things a little easier… suppose… Yet, he couldn’t help experiencing a twinge of sadness at how vehemently Shen Jiu insisted — how repulsed he was by his own flesh and blood. And, by extension, the shared memories attached to it. Perhaps his soul mattered most, but it was a wistful sort of emotion that pricked like thorns. Yue Qingyuan could only accept and try to hide his complicated expression.
Xiao Jiu willing, perhaps they’d make new memories. He placated himself with the thought (though don’t let Shen Jiu know he’d used that name again), mulling over what it would take… and what’s more, how he was to go about forgiving himself like Shen Jiu insisted. There were still things he needed to explain— like what he’d told Shen Qingqiu that day at Maigu Ridge, for starters. Hopefully, he’d be able to speak of it a second time without nearly dying first, but either way that was a topic for the future. Probably. Shen Jiu hadn’t actually asked about it yet. Maybe he wouldn’t. Maybe Yue Qingyuan needed to stop trying to desperately make up for the years spent apart and slow down. That was probably true.
So, as an aside–
Shen Jiu spent the first night back at Cang Qiong mountain completely unable to sleep. The next few nights, he managed somehow, sitting with his back toward the wall in a corner of Yue Qingyuan’s room. They’d agreed to wait on sending him to the disciples’ quarters ‘til after they settled things with Shen Qingqiu. So, he’d been reading. Adjusting to being back. Yue Qingyuan didn’t mind the company; it wasn’t as if they’d never shared a room before. Yet, it was on those final two nights before the confrontation that Shen Jiu surprised him. He’d thus far denied the use of a bed—any bed; and yet, when Yue Qingyuan returned from a very long day of being Sect Leader, he found Shen Jiu both times laid crumpled up on his side in his bed, fast asleep.
If it weren’t for a nagging sense of propriety, Yue Qingyuan might have joined him.

Cringetober 2023, Day 18: Old Story Rewrite
On AO3
Rating G - 611 words - Cardcaptor Sakura - Touya/Yue
Summary: Touya has a romantic Christmas Eve planned the Yue refuses to let an evil sorcerer interrupt.
Story:
Touya had been planning the perfect Christmas Eve for three months. His Favorite Twerp and her boyfriend (not his favorite) were spending the night out. He didn’t ask for details. He didn’t want to spoil his Christmas by think about their Christmas. Their father was traveling for business, leaving the kids to choose how to spend the most romantic day in Japan.
Sakura had declared it a “Clow Free Holiday”. She left the cards at home. Took Kero to Tomoyo’s house where he was gorging on homemade takoyaki. And Yuki was at home with Touya.
They had the house to themselves. They were always together, but never alone. It felt indescribably luxurious to be together in the kitchen, cooking and talking like an old married couple. Yuki had brought a bouquet of flowers with him, perfuming the air with a soft floral scent.
“I feel like Yue and I are getting along better than we used to,” Yuki said. “Like we’re actually starting to be one person with shared goals.”
Touya nodded but kept silent. They were one person but they were also two people. It was an unusual situation. The two facets of them didn’t share memories yet. Maybe they never would. Touya had spent long inscrutable afternoons talking to Yue. Touya loved them both. He wanted to protect them both. It didn’t matter how complicated it all was.
“For the longest time it felt like we were fighting with each other. Like we couldn’t decide who’s life was the priority. But it’s all melded together. Protecting the Clow, protecting Sakura, building a human life, loving you. It’s all one purpose now.”
“What was that last one again?” Touya didn’t look away from the pan he was cooking in.
Yuki swooped in and kissed him.
It was so easy. It was wonderful that it was easy. They’d earned these moments of peace and love.
Yuki suddenly looked into the distance. His eyes unfocused. “I think I forgot something upstairs.”
Touya knew that look, but decided to let Yue think he was being covert. “You should go look for it,” he said.
Yue in Yuki’s body pecked him on the cheek. A blush stole across his face. Yue always found showing affection to be profoundly embarrassing. Touya like that he did it anyway.
Yue-Yuki went upstairs where he let his power wash over him. In the blink of an eye, he was fully transformed. His priest robes flapping and his long white hair nearly reaching the floor. He had sensed something outside the house.
This was Yue’s season. The cold winter frost added to his power. The full moon hung heavy in the sky. He walked out into the night, casting a spell that made him become one with the snow. He was invisible to on lookers.
He moved around the house. Floating outside Sakura’s window, a low-talent sorcerer was trying to break in. No doubt he was here for the cards.  He thought them undefended in their master’s absence. He was wrong.
Yue moved silent and hidden through the snow until he was right bellow the sorcerer. Then he struck. Fast and hard. The sorcerer had no time to collect himself or mount a defense. Yue dismantled him. Yue was not going to allow anything to interrupt Touya’s romantic plans for this evening.
He allowed just his cold eyes, glowing with moonlight, to appear to the sorcerer. “Leave this place and never come back”.
The sorcerer ran.
Yue returned to the house, realizing his body to Yuki. The human didn’t remember what happened but had a vague impression of how excited Yue was to be spending Christmas Eve with Touya.

DYK Chapter 28 Preview
Hey folks! Drafting on chapter 28 is coming along! I hope you enjoy this (unbeta'd) snippet!
---
A ke and a few Peaks over, Luo Binghe found himself standing next to his sister to the entrance of the Sect’s makeshift prison. Ning Yingying had been all too happy to show him to Yue Qingyuan’s cell, apparently supervising his visits having become one of her hobbies the past few months. She had a class to teach in half a shichen, but she had been more than happy to make the trip with him.
She’d been waiting for this moment just as long as he had. Ning Yingying had done her utmost to ensure that this would be Yue Qingyuan’s end, and was finally reaping the rewards of her work for her own satisfaction (rather than Shen Qingqiu and the Sect’s safety). She, of course, also used their travel time to catch up with him a bit, but Yingying saw no reason to hide her malicious glee at the thought of Yue Qingyuan suffering.
He had hurt the man who had sheltered, protected, and raised them to the point in their lives now. And that was unforgivable.
“This way, A-Luo,” she said cheerfully when they arrived. It was a small, unnamed, and often forgotten place in the Sect. Rarely did they need to house people who caused the Sect harm; they were usually either exiled or killed immediately. And Yue Qingyuan was a special case.
Luo Binghe sensed the layers of wards and arrays in and around the stone entranceway, no doubt the work of Zhao Qingchen. He wasn’t anywhere near as well versed in containment arrays as Shen Yuan, but he recognized the feel of them. Ning Yingying bit her finger and drew a temporary release symbol where the wards began. It dropped, they stepped over the threshold, and it came up barely five seconds behind them.
Binghe was impressed and Ning Yingying saw it on his face. “Yes, amazing, isn’t it. Turns out, Zhao-shigu was not pleased to have the Sect Leader, who valued her both for her expertise and a person despite her gender, attacked by the one who previously treated her with perfunctory, perfect politeness. Mother and Qi-shigu also had their own ideas.”
Luo Binghe hummed in agreement. “Mother is good like that.”
“Yes! Wish I could have met her under better circumstances however. She’s amazing!”
“She told me her side of the story. You made a good impression on her and she doesn’t like a lot of people.”
That made Ning Yingying beam at him and it warmed him to see it.
It was good to be back.
They approached the lone door at the end of a series of corridors, apparently different cells with ancient magic working into them. Zhao Qingchen had reinforced the wards in Yue Qingyuan’s cell, creating a division in the floor between the door and the rest of the area so he could have visitors. To unlock the door, Ning Yingying took out a complicated talisman and pressed it to the door.
Stone with a few holes drilled into it for air slid aside after a moment. A somewhat large cave was revealed, qi-powered light ensuring that everything was visible. Yue Qingyuan, sitting in a meditative position in the middle of the floor on a pillow, looked at them as they came in. He seemed mostly well kept, just very much confined.
Binghe knew that his cultivation was not stifled so he could practice inedia in here, with water mostly provided for drinking and bathing. The cell was clean, with a cot and blankets for sleeping, cushions to sit on, and a stack of books off to the side.
Honestly, much better conditions than Luo Binghe expected for someone who kidnapped the Sect Leader, but he supposed that being the previous Sect Leader had some perks. He’d ask Ning Yingying about it later.
Maybe they could get him transferred to the prisons in the imperial palace sooner rather than later. Those accommodations seemed more appropriate.
“Luo Binghe,” he said, voice raspy with disuse. The hatred came through loud and clear, however.
“Yue Qi,” he responded. He was no longer a Peak Lord of Cang Qiong Sect. While his courtesy name would likely be stripped as part of his punishment, it felt appropriate to call him by his birth name if he would do the same. The other man knew Binghe’s proper title; his refusal to use it opened the door for him to strip him of the last honor he had.
“What do you want?”
“From you? Nothing. Not that you could give me anything.”
“Then why are you here? To gloat?”
The tone was calm, but it was fraying at the edges, giving way to anger. Luo Binghe leaned against the wall and crossed his arms casually. “Why bother? You already know I have everything you wanted. Gloating would be a waste of breath. And, as my husband said to me when we discussed my visit, you really aren’t worth it.”
That made the other man flinch and that was fun. He flicked his eyes to Ning Yingying but then looked at Luo Binghe again. “Then do what you want and be on your way.”
“You’re going to be tried in demonic court for crimes against the imperial family. My father will preside, and you will be sentenced to death. You will then be given a sword, and I will kill you in front of a crowd. My husband promised me that honor the night you attempted to have Madam Meiyin reveal his fate, having been hurt too much by you to even consider your continued existence.”
Yue Qi’s face went back to neutrality. “And what’s stopping me from self-destructing before that point?”
Luo Binghe raised his eyebrows. “The same reason you have not done so already. You wait everyday for a particular visitor, don’t you? You wait for him, as he once waited for you. If you die, then you’ll truly never see him again.”
It was cruel, and he saw that his blow struck true. His face did not move, but his eyes… the guilt, the regret, the brokenness was a balm to his soul to see.
Time to close out strong.
“But, you see, you’ve hurt my Qingqiu too much. You’ve given him nightmares and stress, trauma that he is healing from. And, assuming from your broken soulbond, I supposed that wasn’t so far out of the ordinary. No, my Consort will not come visit you. But he will be attending both your trial and execution as both were his ideas.
“The only thing he wants from you right now is to die in front of him. However, I have something to offer you, a bit of incentive to actually survive long enough to fight me.”
Yue Qi looked at him, hatred beginning to bleed back into his eyes, lip snarling as he said, “Why should I believe anything you say?”
“Because the truth will hurt you most, and I want you to suffer,” Luo Binghe said easily, letting his power leak out a bit more so that his eyes glowed red. “And, just to make sure you don’t just self-destruct or stab yourself the second you get a sword in your hand, I can offer you a boon to fight me truly. Something only I can offer you and you want.”
Yue Qi stared at him, contemptuous. “And what is that?”
“If you give me an honest fight, I’ll tell you how Shen Qingqiu immediately believed the other Luo Binghe was married to another version of himself. The thing he would only ever share with the person he loved more than life. A secret, a part of him he never trusted you with, and never will.”

10 Characters From 10 Fandoms
How to play: Name 10 Characters from 10 fandoms and tag people
I was tagged by the amazing @br-disaster , thank you!!! ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
In no particular order. Most of them I have been obsessed with ever since I was a kid.
Nie Huaisang (CQL/MDZS) - The only reason it took me so long to do this was because I couldn’t decide between NMJ and NHS. Alas, I relate to NHS the most, he’s also an incredibly intricate character that lives in my head rent free.
Hatake Kakashi (Naruto) - Contrary to most people, I actually watched this show/read the manga until 2020 and I've been obsessed with this tragic overpowered ninja ever since. I think he is the character I have written/drawn the most about. I relate way too much to him, which is...strange. I am in love with his story and character development through the show.
Louis de Pointe du Lac (Interview With the Vampire) - I must confess I haven't yet read the book, but I watched the AMC show and I FELL IN LOVE. I have Ana to thank for introducing me to this amazing, complicated mess of a man.
Thranduil (The hobbit) - When I watched all LOTR movies, I was a kid and my aunt was babysitting and obviously I started obsessing over him and the elves when I read every Tolkien book I could get my hands on. I haven't written much about him but I do have a whole AU-Canon divergence for Oropher, Thranduil and Legolas half written on AO3. My version of Thranduil, Oropher’s line and the Greenwood elves is VERY different from the hobbit movies, though.
Ned the Pie Maker (Pushing daisies) - Tall, sensible, caring, harmless man who loves to bake and is also an accidental necromancer? YES, PLEASE.
Yue (Sakura Card-captor) - Imagine you are this super powerful supernatural being whose world gets turned upside down when the person you considered your everything dies. Imagine you get sealed inside the back cover of a book for 100 years and then inside the body of a teenager without being asked for consent and without being able to get out to live a normal life. You are also left without much of your power for a long time, and then you are given a ridiculously short amount of time to get used to everything that is going on around you while your twin and your other brothers and sisters get months to understand and process what happened. AND THEN it turns out that the dude that you loved so much didn’t died, instead reincarnated into some annoying bitch (who is now a different person than he was in his past life so meh) because he had some cosmic realization when he turned like 800 years old because being the most powerful magician in the world makes your common sense disappear, apparently...and then this annoying brat creates a cheap copy of you and your sibling, yikes. Imagine you really want to slap everyone but you dont want to set a bad example to the nice, cute girl who you depend on now, BUT DAMMIT IF YOU COULD YOU WOULD. Yeah. He's That Bitch™ and he deserves it. I support you, Yue.
Azula (Avatar: The Last Airbender) - She is definitively the character I relate to the most, like she was 14 and learned very soon what happens if you get on your father’s bad side. She's a prodigy and what she needed in the end was some psychological help and then the throne, bye.
Captain James T. Kirk (Star Trek) -  I want to be a Starfleet captain so bad, ISTG. He’s so much, a drama queen, the voice of reason, a disaster waiting to happen, a feminist, queer, The Captain, a nuisance, the smartest person in the room, mister daddy issues, mister “bones get that hypospray off my face”, mister I am in love with this Vulcan, mister I am in love with this doctor, “Dammit Jim!”. Yeah, him.
Crowley (Good Omens) - I read the book when I was in high school, it was the first book I read in one sitting without getting distracted. I loved those two. I love Crowley and the fact that he is always trying to cause havoc through elaborate schemes that inconvenience the human race. Ahaha, he’s the best. (Yes, I loved the TV show).
Dorian (Almost Human) - HE JUST WANTS TO BE SEEN AS SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST A MACHINE. He’s sometimes more human than all the humans he works with. I love Dorian and Kennex, you bet I have read every single fic centered on him or both of them on AO3. I’m forever sad they cancelled that show.
I tag @pangzi and @dual-domination (only if you want to do it of course. Feel free to ignore this tag if you dont!)

We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Bai Hua, a 22 year old son of Yue Lao.          He is a shop clerk at Jinxxed.
FC NAME/GROUP: Choi Yeonjun / TXT CHARACTER NAME: Bai Hua - 白 [white, pure] 华 [splendid, illustrious] AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: 22 / 2000.11.17 PLACE OF BIRTH: Hong Kong OCCUPATION: Shop Clerk at JINXXED HEIGHT: 5’11” WEIGHT: 130 lbs DEFINING FEATURES: Pierced ears: two on the left, three on the right. Has a red thread tattoo spiraling up his right arm.
PERSONALITY: Hua is charming to a T—of course he is, being a son of Yue Lao. At first glance, his outgoing, easy nature seems genuine, almost like he’s actually invested in the conversation. Look a little closer, and you’ll see that charm is actually cleverly disguised manipulation. A matchmaker by trade, he's quite the sycophant: saying what people want to hear with no qualms about what it may be; cold, calculated, and secretive. On top of all of this, he treats life as a game. It’s all predestined anyway, so might as well have some fun, right?
He also likes to play with fire—both literally and figuratively. He generally carries a box of matches around with him, and knows a shitload of finger tricks; whirling the match between his knuckles, darting fingers in and out of the flame, the list goes on and on. Figuratively is a bit harder to explain: Hua is somewhat of an oxymoron when it comes to conversing. If you can visualize the phrase “superficial charm,” that’s him. He knows what people want to hear, and has no trouble telling them those things, even if he doesn’t believe a word of what’s coming out of his mouth. But if he figures out that has no effect on someone, then he is the fiercest arguer in the world.
HISTORY: CWs: abusive parenting, cults
Bai Hua has always known where he came from. Why should he know anything different? It is a formative part of who he is, and he would do well to remember that.
He grew up in Hong Kong as an only child with a single mother. She was strict, generally choosing to be brutally honest with him. He was told all about his powers from a young age; she made sure he knew what it was he could do and how exactly best to wield them. Because of them, he was homeschooled; as she explained, he needed to understand himself before he could understand others. And the extent of “himself,” of course, consisted of his powers.
While growing up in Hong Kong, he fell in with a cult for a bit. His mother was a member, and she made sure to bring him in. A religious group, devoted to the worship of Yue Lao. He never informed them of his heritage, choosing to silently observe from the outside; his mother seemed keen to tell the others, but he managed to convince her not to. The members never pushed for him to join, as for most of his tenure there, he was very young; he didn’t seem keen to join, either, preferring to stick to the side and watch the ongoings. Something about what they were doing didn’t sit right with him, even then, so he generally tries not to think about it too much.
(Now that he’s learning, he knows that feeling is guilt. He shoves it away. Those feelings are too complicated to unravel right now.)
He has never met his father, although he’s heard many stories about him. His mother was constantly talking about how incredible his father was. He was often scolded for not living up to her sky-high expectations. Now that he’s gotten some distance from her, he’s starting to wonder if she didn’t want him to be a mini carbon copy of Yue Lao. (She did.)
He chronically looks down on people. He doesn’t have anything against humanity, per se, but when you’ve grown up only hearing how above mankind you are—or, alternatively, how you’re the worst scum on this side of the heavenly plane—it tends to get in your head. Now, he is finally starting to feel remorse after negative interactions. Being separated from his mother for the first time in his life is opening his eyes, slowly but surely.
(But it hurts. He falls back into age-old patterns frequently. It’s going to take a lot for him to change.)
Homeschooled for all his life, Hua had eagerly been waiting for the day his mother would allow him to travel to Mount Phoenix. Unfortunately, she insisted on him getting a “thorough” education, and so in Hong Kong he remained until he was 19, when he finally traveled to Mount Phoenix to begin his tenure at Phoenix Academy.
Little did he know how much he still had left to learn.
PANTHEON: Chinese CHILD OF: Yue Lao, god of love and marriage POWERS:
Strand Sight : He has always seen the strings, shining like strands of spiderweb in the moonlight. They glisten with a silvery glow, and he smiles knowingly when he notices them. He believes it is his duty to push together those that are destined.
Charisma : He knows how to easily become friends with anyone. His enhanced charisma pushes his already charming personality to eleven, when he chooses to use it.
STRENGTHS: Charming, outgoing, easy-natured, matchmaker WEAKNESSES: Manipulative, secretive, a fierce enemy, cold, calculated, sycophant

wanted connections.
I LOVED YOU LIKE THE SUN | CLOSED Someone who is just so happy that Hua is amusingly intrigued by you. There is no ulterior motive for his friendship, for once—he just genuinely doesn’t understand your constant excitement. Is it naïvety? Is it drugs? He supposes he’ll just have to spend more time with you to figure it out. (SUN/MOON FRIENDSHIP)
MY ANCIENT HISTORY | OPEN (STUDENTS) You two were together back in Hong Kong for a while. It was off and on, but you really thought he loved you. He broke up with you, citing his reasoning as the relationship “never felt real to him.” You were about to call it quits anyway, as his self-destructive habits were starting to worry you, but he never gave you the chance. Now, you’ve reunited and—worse yet—you’re sitting next to each other in the same class. (EX-LOVERS)
BLOSSOMS | OPEN You’re opening his eyes, that’s the blunt truth of it. Whether he likes it or not, you are making him realize that not everything is how he was taught to believe it is. The world is much less black and white than he’s been led to believe. He’s going to fight you every step of the way…but deep down, he knows it’s worth it. (DEBASTARDIZATION ARC)
GOOD ENOUGH | CLOSED (STUDENTS) Top of your year in every class…except for this one. You’ve been in the same class as Hua off and on throughout your university careers, and the two of you have consistently been vying for top marks. In this one, he’s seemed to have you beat. And he takes no small pleasure in rubbing that in your face every chance he gets. (ACADEMIC RIVALS)
O SOLE MIO | CLOSED Fate, destiny—Hua doesn’t need to believe in it to know it’s true, he can see it. But he’s never been able to see his own. He has no idea where his own soul string leads, where the partner at the end of his heart’s thread may lie. Perhaps you’d be willing to check? (SOULMATES - INTERNAL)
INTERPOLATION | OPEN (2 PEOPLE) Every time he sees you, Hua gets this knowing smile on his face. It’s starting to freak you out, if you’re honest. What’s worse is that he seems to be overly pushy, but not towards you—no. He’s trying to get you to go out with another person. The only thing is that they don’t seem to be friends, or even really know each other. Why? What does he have invested in this relationship? (SOULMATES - EXTERNAL)

Why not: A CCS reread, Part 4
Tumblr media
Having lots of fun with this!
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7
Ch24:
Tumblr media
It's Yue! Finally! :D
Ch25:
Tumblr media
Aaah I really like it when the story is not about life or death for the whole world, but something that's for the main characters on a much deeper emotional level. It makes it much more interesting!
Tumblr media
I forgot they had this cool battle! And overall a very cool scene. Good thing I'm rereading this, motivates me to draw them :) Ch26:
Tumblr media
Yes, be friends! <:3 Yue needs some pal.
Tumblr media
You fear you might make things difficult, sir? Why not just...not do it then. Hrmpf.
Tumblr media
What a casual one-hand catch 👍
Tumblr media
Awww Yukito is so cute in the dark sweater :3 (I'm getting some Trigun Stampede Vash vibes hihi) The form fitting suits him though!
Tumblr media
Aaaand we have the confirmation that Touya basically gets all what's going on. He's just not trying to interfere, and make things any more complicated. Also, the last time I consumed this story was when I watched the anime 3 years ago (before that, I had read the manga the first time another couple years ago) and although it's been some time I'm preeeetty sure they didn't make the Touya/Yukito hints so strong in the anime. I love the anime, but I'm glad I'm rereading all this now!
Ch27:
Tumblr media
CLAMP does love their Tokyo Tower, don't they?
Tumblr media
New student...well, if it isn't the little shit himself. (sorry for the language. He did annoy me on my first read)
Tumblr media
In the meantime this little shit here is getting more and more adorable.
Tumblr media
And Ruby! They annoyed me on my first read too, but now I got a feeling I'll enjoy them a lot more! (When I say annoy I mean not as in, didn't enjoy reading, but as in, 'that character is creating exactly the effect they are supposed to do') Man that smug smile back at Yukito...I do wonder what he's thinking in that moment. Doesn't let any emotions like jealousy play on his face, but I cannot imagine he is not at least a little bit unnerved by this. Also DAMN Touya, get your grip together and just shake them off. It's not that hard. Ch28:
Tumblr media
Hehe I like their sibling interactions.
Tumblr media
As I look longer at this panel I realise just how reduced the lineart is in ccs and how it still looks so good. Those few carefully set strokes are so well done!
Tumblr media
The way we only see the back of Yukito we know he definitely has his thoughts about what Nakuru/Ruby told him....Gruah! Let me know what he thinks!
Tumblr media
Hihihi the cups in this panel look like they're having faces and are frowning :D
Ch29:
Tumblr media
Just a normal lunchtime for Yukito! (oh god even Touya looks shocked :D)
Tumblr media
Nobody says gender equality like Ruby! (or, maybe more accurately, gender carelessness. What does it matter anyway?)
Ch31:
Tumblr media
Oh GOD they're all so exasperated with Yukito's obliviousness
Tumblr media
Whoops. Don't try sewing at home kids, as it can go awfully wrong.
This post is long enough! Cutting it off here :)

Hello, plan! Iirc, you're somewhat familiar with SVSSS, right? Can you answer these questions of mine: Did QJL r**** SJ? Is it true that in PIDW, SJ and OG!LBH was supposed to be the main cp Airplane planned and end up together or is it just a headcanon?
We're only told about Qiu Jianluo beating Shen Jiu in the novel. I think that's a mix of fanon & conjecture based on Shen Jiu's subsequent repulsion towards men and seeking safety around women. But that can be explained in canon by the violence he endured at QJL hands and the fact that QJL behaved around his sister.
“Back then Qiu Jianluo would often beat him up, so much so that at a certain point Shen could sense when he wanted to do it, so he would crawl away and hide trembling inside Qiu Haitang’s room. Qiu Jianluo didn’t want his younger sister to see his depraved side, so it was the only place Shen could hide and be safe.
At some point he had someone else he had trusted, an older girl whom he saw as a big sister. But, once she got old enough, she was sold to a shrivelled up old widower who had plans to marry her. And not so long after that they left the city and Shen Qingqiu never saw her again.
It wasn’t shameful at all to like women, but Shen Qingqiu knew very well how shameful it was to treat women as saviors and shrink into their arms looking for self-assurance. He would rather die than let others know about it, much less let Yue Qingyuan know about it.”
I mean this sounds horrific enough to justify his repulsion. In other words what you asked about is not canon. no.
As for the second item I wonder if this is what has people confused :
“Shang Qinghua spread his hands. “You think that I always wrote shameless content that lacked any integrity from the very start? I’ve also written belles-lettres before, but they were all unpopular, so I had no choice but to go down a path that catered to the masses. It must be said that writing novels is a very lonely undertaking. Rather than writing a stallion male protagonist who’ll be stereotypical in the end, it’s more in line with my philosophy for writing to create the current Bing-ge━this kind of weirdo male protagonist whose character is a bit more complicated, has contradictions and conflicts, and has a rough destiny.”
Shen Qingqiu concluded, “So, your philosophy for writing is to write about gay guys?”
Shang Qinghua: “Do you look down upon gay male protagonists? Works of art and artists all like to create gay guys. Belles-lettres favors gays, do you know that?”
“He waved his arms wildly and passionately. “Cucumber Bro, if the System hadn’t chosen you, this faithful die-hard reader, perhaps the plot wouldn’t have deviated so thoroughly, thoroughly to the point that it deviated all the way back to my original scrapped outline. Even though the me back in reality━who couldn’t endure the loneliness and was under financial pressure━chose to finish writing 《Proud Immortal Demon Way》 according to other people’s preferences and what they found cool… now, all thanks to you, essentially everything that I wanted to write has already unfolded in front of my eyes. Cucumber Bro!”
He patted Shen Qingqiu’s shoulders with deep sentiment and solemnity. “You… are the chosen one; as for my career, I have no more regrets!”
… why did it sound like the System and this world were both products of Shang Qinghua’s resentment over scrapping that outline and going with what was mainstream?” (Chapter 81)
Haha I didn't take it to mean that og Shen Jiu and LBH were canon cp, just that Airplane Bro would have preferred to write the Luo Binghe from this story instead of the OG LBH and he's not opposed to him being gay. There's a lot more that happens differently in the new story aside from the romantic relationship. Like Tianlang-jun and Zhuzhi-lang being the villains [fondly] of the story. Even if Shen Jiu's unfortunate background were revealed OG Shen Jiu still abused OG LBH & vehemently resented him. The one man OG Shen Jiu was different about was Yue QingYuan. Shen Yuan is the one who changed the dynamic between SQQ and LBH and then the story/system followed not the other way around.
