Changes to BBC Merlin that I think would make it better:
note: these aren’t necessarily all in the same au timeline but even one of them could’ve made it better
When Merlin asks Gwen for a sword she gives him the best one she ever made, not her father, so she and Merlin together forged Excalibur
Gwen is knighted alongside the others in the Round table
Merlin is officially recognized as the Court physician’s Apprentice rather than becoming Arthur’s servant (Why do you call him an idiot? By Yvion on Ao3 proves this)
In the scenario that Merthur happens, and Merlin’s the ‘queen’ and/or court Sorcerer, Gwen should be the next Court Physician
Or she’s with Lancelot and she becomes the next court physician, I just think she’d be good at it and it would give her a reason to have a seat of the council in the case that she’s not queen
Lancelot doesn’t fucking die
Arthur learns of Merlin’s magic during the Sigan fight and comes to terms with it on his own
Merlin doesn’t know his destiny (y’know… like the intro of the show literally says over and over again…) so he’s actually just listening to his own heart when he makes decisions and doesn’t have crippling anxiety from holding the weight of the world on his shoulders alone the entire show
More Gwen and Merlin bestie shenanigans before and after either one of them becomes queen
Gwen finds out about Merlin’s magic sometime in season 1
Merlin ignores Gaius and Kilgarrah and tells Morgana about his magic and they’re cool magic besties
Arthur doesn’t fucking die 3 seconds after finding out
Any of Arthur’s character development sticks for more than an episode
Arthur actually catches on to the fact that Merlin is usually right when it comes to danger or judging people by Lancelot’s episode
Gaius actually listens to Merlin instead of immediately shutting down his ideas even tho they usually turn out to be right later on
More Round Table
Morgana’s turn to being evil doesn’t happen completely off screen and she shows some kind of hesitation in harming Gwen, Arthur, and the townspeople even after she’s evil because seriously what the fuck was that
We get several episodes completely from Arthur’s point of view that show Merlin looking absolutely unhinged with absolutely no context followed by the episode from Merlin’s point of view where everything he does looks completely reasonable
I can and will elaborate on any of these if you ask

Trollhunters au where everyone in Arcadia who’s grown up there has some kind of inherent magic about them, although some have more than others.
This is kinda inspired by Your Future Hasn’t Been Written Yet by Sakon76 on ao3, in the sense that people generally have a type of magic that they’re drawn to and can become really good at, but some people can learn other types and become a Jack of all trade master wizard type thing.
Some types of magic in the fic are smith magic, techno magic, shadow magic, and winter magic. There’s more but some get into spoiler territory if u haven’t read it and are going to so…
Anyway, in this au any kind of magic you can think of probably exists here and in Arcadia, everyone is capable of at least one of them, with varying levels of power and breadth (amount of magicks they’re capable of), although most of them don’t know it.
For example, Toby is good at troll types of magic, geomancy mostly, with a hint of smith magic. Before he knows about magic he’s drawn to rocks as we can see in the show. He would probably be really talented at geomancy, but struggle to do anything or than lower level smith magic
Claire would be an example of someone more powerful. Even before she ever knows about magic, she’s weirdly aware of her surroundings, almost like she has a six sense. She’s always been able to see better in the dark. When she does learn about magic she picks it up surprisingly fast and the only reason she doesn’t branch out beyond shadow magic right away is because she doesn’t know she can, but she always wants to know more.
Everyone else would fall into similar types:
Jim would be really good at potions (cooking), but have a hard time with literally anything else. This makes be Trollhunter, needing to cleave stones, kinda suck and super stressful.
Mary, would be really good at the software portions of techno magic. She’s also good at weaving and energy, but she’s less powerful with them because she’s not as interested in them. She could probably have a similar breadth to Claire (maybe smaller), but less power because unlike Claire, she’s not interested in much more.
Eli would also be good at Techno magic, both the software and hardware and a few other things, but he’s not that powerful. Most of his abilities come from the fact that he’s genuinely just skilled with tech.
Steve and Darci are harder to figure out, but I think it would hilariously if Steve was really good with plants, but has no idea.
Like, he doesn’t even have to try to get plants to like him, and he has no idea because he’s never thought about it. His parents were not plant people and he’s not friends with plant people, before and after he learns about magic, so he’s just going around with some powerful plant magic and no knowledge about it. They land in Camelot and suddenly plants are sprouting where he walks??? There’s higher magic levels 900 years in the past, which is messing with his uncontrolled magic, but they don’t know that. I just want copious amounts of confusion.
And finally, Darci. I have no idea what kind of magic she would have. Is there such a thing as Dance magic??? Chill vibes? Wind? Who knows? Whatever it is, it’s cool and she’s good at it. Ooo maybe, like Empathy and aura reading? And wind could work with dance? Maybe? Idk, but I think her powers would be more subtle than the others.
These are only, like, the main teenagers in Tales of Arcadia that I’m pretty sure grew up in Arcadia, but this would apply to all the other kids and the adults that grew up here.
Btw, I don’t think I mentioned, the reason it’s only people who grew up in Arcadia is because of the Heartstone. It’s literally huge and radiates magic so powerful it actually affects the humans living above it.

Imagine he’s not “just some clone”, but literally the clone that killed Damian, so when he comes back, all the Bats are freaking out because what if he tries to kill Damian again…
However when they find him he’s chasing an entirely different black haired child and? The child doesn’t even looked scared, just annoyed???
When they get close enough they hear the child say something along the lines of “you literally came back to life and you’re STILL HUNTING ME?!? GET A HOBBY!”
Bones, I have an idea I want to share, so just tell me which bones of mine you want, and they are yours.
Jason came back thanks to Superboy Prime punching the Source Wall. Not only Jason came back in canon, but many other people, like some members of the Doom Patrol.
What if some of the ghosts in DP came back as well?
Would they remember their time as a ghost? Would they try to go back to their previous life? Would they become halfas or very liminal?
Ember was supposed to have a very different personality when she was alive? Would she try to be a rockstar again? Would she be shy and quiet?
Johnny and Kitty are a couple in death, but what if only one of them came back? How would their relationship fare?
Youngblood is just a child, would he be alone in the world? Would he be adopted by someone in the Arrowfam Batfam, the Superfam, the Flashfam, etc?
What if one of the three halfas became fully alive after that? Would any of them willingly enter the portal, and be tored apart by reality?
What if Clockwork comes back, and the Titan Chronus is free to roam again in the living world?
:000 oh dUDE! Johnny and Kitty coming back to life and becoming friends with Roy or Jason?!
Youngblood (this is my dpxdc headcannon feel free to ignore) is an imp from the 5th dimension and is back to cause chaos
so much can be done with this i love it sm alsdhd fsa;flkhskfdjh;af

Okay, so I can’t believe I’m writing this, the Maribat/Daminette fandom has me by the throat so, here we are
There are a lot of fics where Damian comes to Paris and they click and he gets the Black cat miraculous for various reasons, and also a lot where Marinette goes to Gotham with generally the same outcomes, but what about a fic where Damian and his class go on a trip to Paris before Hawkmoth first attacks.
Like, he’s 13 and forced into this trip because the fam wants him to experience more than just being a vigilante and he hates it. His school has a program with Marinette’s, so at the beginning of the year they pack up and plan to spend two weeks in Paris.
This trip just so happens to coincide with when Master Fu is looking for his new Ladybug and Black Cat (y’all see where I’m going with this?)
In this Au, Adrien makes it to the school sooner and misses Master Fu because he’s testing Marinette. Adrien still gets to go to school, because he deserves happiness, but he’s able to get there the first day, and so avoids the whole gum thing that make Marinette hate him, but also sees what Chloe does to Marinette which really changes his initial perspective of school. He would definitely be a temp hero later, but he gets to enjoy being a normal rebellious teen.
Anyway, so Adrien Misses Fu, so who’s going to be the Cat? Well, Damian’s school pulls up at the same time Adrien would have.
The class stops to do a head count and give the general speech of why they’re there in front of the school and Damian’s planning on slipping away because he’s 13 and thinks this is all a waste of his time. He thinks that if he can make it back to the hotel without anyone noticing he’ll be able to make an argument that they forgot him and that he should be allowed to go home (can you see where I’m taking my inspiration from?). Unfortunately for him, Fu sees this and does his test (the fall). All his classmates don’t do anything because they’re from Gotham and are suspicious of everything (and also it’s Paris and they don’t want to be scammed) and the teachers don’t notice. Damian, however, does notice. He considers leaving anyway because it’s not his problem, but he’s been Robin for almost 3 or 4 years at this point and, contrary to what some people might say, has grown a lot. He would feel guilty and maybe even a little unworthy of Robin if he didn’t stop for 2 seconds to help this old man up.
It goes quite similarly to how it did with Adrien, he helps Fu up, but gets caught and can no longer run away from the class.
Basically, this au is a “what if Damian was The Black Cat from the start?”
I have a lot more ideas, but here’s just a few:
Damian isn’t Chat Noir, but I haven’t looked up any cat related names that he could be yet.
As the cat, Damian acts a lot more fun than he normally would allow himself. He’s not Chat Noir level, but this is the first time in his life where literally no one knows who he is and is monitoring his behavior, nor does he have anyone’s expectations on him for who he should be.
He’s initially annoyed with Ladybug, because she’s so clearly untrained, unconfident, and unprepared, but then she comes up with the plan that shows what she could be capable of, and the speech and he might have a crush, but brushes it off as grudgingly respecting her
He 100% plans on training her and their partnership is more equal than what the show portrays it as, because one of my main problems with the actual show is that chat noir, despite being her partner is often shoved aside and given the sidekick role
Damian doesn’t tell his family what’s happening. As far as they’re aware, Paris is fine. Normally he would have, but he had no time until after the fight and he really enjoyed being the cat that he’s like “I’ll tell them later” which keeps being pushed back.
At the end of the trip he somehow talks his family into letting him actually transfer to Paris so he can stay as the cat
He is baffled that this works, but they are all so happy that he’s taking an interest in something other than Robin and Superheroing that they jump on letting him before realizing that it means he’s gonna be in Paris for months.
Dick is sad about this later, so is Bruce and Alfred and the others, but he’s the most vocal about it.
Damian is also baffled that they haven’t figured out what’s going on by now and as everyday passes he gets more and more annoyed by the fact that his so called family of detectives have realized that he’s decided if they can’t figure it out, he’s not telling them.
He has not figured out that magic is preventing knowledge of this from leaving Paris and even if it didn’t, Magic is protecting his identity.
He acts annoyed by Plagg, but he actually loves him so much
His cat outfit is still fun with the ears and tail, but it’s a lot more elaborate and has a utility belt and a lot of hidden things
In fact, because it’s so elaborate, Marinette’s boring suit only stays for the first time she transforms. Once the fight finishes her little fashion designer brain can’t stop thinking about it and comes up with a new design after consulting Tikki.
Of course, she only has the idea of the costume down, because by the time they finalize it, she sees the news and has her depression moment, so the first time she wears it is when she saves Alya.
Due to this first change, her outfit would constantly be changing throughout her time as Ladybug, as she learns more about fighting and what she’s comfortable with, as well as what’s actually possible with magic and the miraculous.
By the end of the year her firs are going to be crazy (wait till she finds out she can change her actual eyes (both color and the pupils and-) hair colors and length)
She will eventually bully Damian into making some changes but he’s generally happy with the first design.
They also know each others identities a lot sooner because Damian actually knows the benefits and his cold logic is able to cut through a lot of her anxiety.
It still doesn’t happen until at least the second season tho.
Y’all I have so much more, but this is getting long and I’ve got things to do so tell me if u want more or feel free to add your own ideas!!!

I’ve been thinking about the whole “Batman won’t kill the joker and that’s stupid” take and I’m just thinking-
Okay? Like if mans wants to stick by this one specific moral code for a job that he has literally nothing but a moral obligation to do, than by all means, let him be.
But you know who we should annoy? The fucking DC Government. “Oh he plead insanity and that mean we can’t kill him” be so fucking for real. This is the same government that made the suicide squad. This is the same government where Amanda fucking Waller is in charge of random shit. You’re going to look me in the fucking eyes and tell me they couldn’t just make an exception??? You’re going to sit there and tell me the judge or jury or whatever the fuck couldn’t be like “actually we don’t believe that he’s insane, kill this motherfucker”???
I’ll be honest, I’m not extremely familiar with the comics, but if this is not a storyline that has happened? It needs to be. Story where Batman catches Joker, but instead of just throwing him back in Arkham, the Gov. steps in and puts him on a super high security trial, and regardless of what he claims, they legally sentence him to death. Nothing Batman can do, it’s out of his hands. Joker dies, not by a pissed off Harley Quinn, or an enraged Red Hood, but by a Government that’s tired of this motherfucker costing them too much money in property damage and other shit.

No, I’m sorry, but actually What The Fuck did Azulon think he was going to achieve when he ordered Ozai to kill Zuko?
Like “As punishment for being an asshole about your brother’s pain from his beloved son’s loss, I order you to kill the child you clearly don’t favor or like. Yes, the child that you literally could not care less about, the one who Iroh likes more out of your 2 children. Yes, that will teach you.”
Seriously what the fuck was he thinking???

Fic idea: Merlin edition
What if, after an entire childhood of being told he couldn’t tell anyone about his magic that he actually can’t.
Like, his magic hears this and internalizes it so he literally cannot tell anyone, even if he wants to or tries. For example:
Tries to tell the entire court? They don’t believe him.
Tries to tell Arthur? Someone conveniently interrupts.
Tries to tell Morgana? Literally cannot force the words out of his mouth.
And at first he thinks it’s just a coincidence, but after it keeps happening with Arthur, and then he literally cannot with Morgana, he starts to look for a reason why.
And it’s not even that he can’t just tell anyone, he also can’t intentionally show them, if he tries, they conveniently turn away or interrupt him.
Eventually he figures this out and just dispares because he doesn’t know how to stop it.
So basically the only way anyone can ever know is if they figure it out and that causes problems when it comes to a certain pair of royal siblings

No- I’m sorry, but to this day I do not believe that Gwen and Arthur should have ended up together.
Was Gwen an amazing queen? Yes. Did she deserve that position? Yes. Was there literally any reason she couldn’t have been queen without being romantically involved with Arthur? No.
Because here’s the thing, Arthur had already broken so many rules and traditions that it doesn’t make sense why he couldn’t have just broken another. Seriously, Merlin probably wouldn’t have wanted the recognition or responsibilities of being queen anyway, he could literally just be chilling as court sorcerer and King’s Consort.
And Gwen? Full offense but Gwen deserved better than what Arthur could give her relationship wise. Because I have no doubt that he loved her, but he could never love her more than Merlin (keeping in mind the so loved comment that Arthur made on their first date about how he would love to run away with Merlin), and especially not more than Lancelot, who thought she was the most beautiful, lovely, talented, brilliant, and skilled woman he had ever met THE FIRST TIME HE MET HER! He could’ve been her little Queen’s consort and they would’ve been so cute!
But no. They killed Lancelot and left Merlin alone and sad forever.

Would anybody be interested in a BBC Merlin fic where the typical villain of the week barges their way into the castle, with the main spread of the round table + Uther and a few random council members and their plan is to summon future versions of both Uther and Arthur so he kill them more than once and psychologically horrify them, but their dramatic and annoying, so they want to “demonstrate” their power and say some bullshit like “a volenteer! How would you like to see your bones in 1500 years!” But it’s Merlin and he’s immortal so all it does is summon a Merlin whose been walking this earth 1500 years and does not give a shit
From there it would be how future Merlin interacts with them all, mostly making fun of the villain. To avoid Angst (because this is crack) I would say that everyone has already come back in the future, so it’s not like he’s seeing them for the first time since they all died.

He didn’t even have to let him die!!! There are so many fanfics where he talks Arthur out of killing Uther without lying to him!!! They should have given us Arthur having to deal with all of that but no! They just let him go!

Y’know, a lot of us criticize Merlin for his poor decisions in the show when it comes to his magic and Morgana especially, but honestly, I don’t think he gets enough credit for how far he made it for being completely unprepared for the life he was given.
Like, this poor little country boy probably never had to make any extreme decisions in his life besides hiding his magic. Little farm boy did not grow up learning critical thinking or learning how his decisions could impact an entire kingdom, he was literally a farmer, an educated farmer that could read and write, sure, but a farmer none the less.
But then he goes to Camelot and suddenly he has the weight of an entire kingdom and the entire magical world on his back, with literally no training on how to deal with it.
Let’s remember that Merlin only really has experience in two places: Camelot and Ealdor. This boy is not worldly and has not gone around learning about shit like morality and complex decision making, he is literally entirely dependent on Giaus and Kilgarrah.
That’s not to say that he doesn’t develop those skills later, but the key word here is later. Most of his thinking has been heavily influenced by Giaus and Kilgarrah and they are literally the only advice he has to go off, of course he made terrible decisions, they’re both old and bitter from their experiences, and with no one to back up his point of view, he’s forced to believe his instincts are wrong and develop new ones.
Basically I think we should give him more credit for his decisions because he literally was not prepared for anything Camelot threw at him, unlike Arthur who would have likely been trained in critical thinking and complex decision making from birth.

I think it’s so interesting, the parallel of Viren saying over and over again that he did what he needed to do to keep his family safe and Callum actually doing what he has to to keep Rayla safe and alive.
It’s interesting because this season showed us that Viren probably had been doing that at one point, but the dark magic twisted him until he lost sight of that.
Meanwhile we have Callum who, despite not making the wrong choice (Rayla would have literally died had he not used dark magic), it’s still a choice that’s going to have consequences on him personally.
The difference between the two is that I don’t think Viren understood just how terrible dark magic can be, because once he looks past the whole death of innocent creatures thing and start looking at the benefits, dark magic seems to be more good than bad, especially when the evidence he see doesn’t ever seem to tell him otherwise.
Callum, on the other hand, knows dark magic is wrong, intimately. He felt the effects on his soul during his illness/soul search. He’s heard about it from the perspective of elves and he knows it as a primal mage.
Personally, I’m not worried for Callum in the way he’s willing to use dark magic, I’m worried for him in the way that Arravos probably knows that and how to take advantage of it to twist Callum in the ways that he pleases.
Also in the way he’ll probably die of guilt from doing dark magic even if it was justified
