Can you get whiplash from reading fics?

Yesterday, I finished a cute series where my current pair are elementary school teachers. I was exhausted and picked a random fic next. Went to start it again this morning with the fluffy but feels school story still in my head just to get smoked in the face with "You’re the one who’s going to water the ground with your blood".

Exhausted me has some explaining to do.
