Exactly two months ago, I was driving home from work. The day was tiresome; I was so eager to rush inside that I almost missed the tiny paw peeking from underneath the pickup truck across the street. I recognized the coat as tortoiseshell as a wave of panic washed over me - had our six-year old tortie escaped from the house somehow?

I immediately parked my car in the driveway and swiftly moved to a better, closer angle. This is when I noticed that the paw was attached to a much smaller body than I knew; a body of a kitten that was underweight and louse-ridden, with matted fur that'd soon grime my hands after a few minutes of petting (because she allowed herself to approach and I just couldn't resist).

Now, we're here.
