I'll be doing a similar thing with my art blog here tbh - so, Plz do vote and give me feedback!

Due to Tumblr deciding to sell user's data to OpenAI/Midjourney...

I will likely be shutting down this blog within the month and moving to a new platform.

Now I just have to decide what platform.... While I might be able to promote the comic on Insta/Twitter, the format of the comic doesn't really fit with those platforms. So I wanted to take a poll from those of you who have been awesome and supported to this little project of mine to decide next steps.

I will have some more context about my thought process below under "read more"

There have been many situations over a long period of time that have had me thinking of ditching Tumblr. The P*rn Bots running rampant (I'm not actually 100% sure if most of you are bots or real people), The current CEO, the site being broken in general... there have been a lot of reasons to ditch tumblr that have been building up in my mind, and this whole AI thing was honestly kind of the final nail in the coffin.

I put up with a lot because honestly Tumblr was my first-ever social media experience and was a HUGE part of my middle/highschool experience (for better or for worse) but I think this is it, I'm done.

YES I know you can opt out and I have on all blogs I have, I know (now) supposedly third party reblogs still respect the opt out. But there's a couple of things here.

Do we really trust Tumblr to do... anything..? Correctly? I frankly DO NOT TRUST them to properly make sure people who are opted out are ACTUALLY opted out? Tumblr has NEVER handled even small challenges well and I think I've just had my trust in their ability broken too many times.

Doing business with A.I. Period, when so much of your platform is made up of artists and writers... Just the principle of it alone... especially when it was revealed when Midjorney was straight up lying through their teeth when they said they had NO WAY of knowing the artists they scraped from in order to compensate them or let them opt out in anyway... then it turned out they did actually have a full ass list.

The fact that we found out about this through a third party article and not tumblr itself is SO SO scummy.

One thought I had... ... what about art thefts? Would someone stealing art who reuploads from their own account, that is in full support of this A.I. ... couldn't you just have your shit scraped anyway if someone stole it? I mean yes this could happen no matter what, but it honestly adds to my feelings that we are leaping into this new tech without really understanding the why or 'should we' of it all?

I know the whole "there is no moral consumption under capitalism" but when I CAN make a choice I prefer to at least TRY to make it. I don't stand by the idea of A.I. for many reasons, but one big reason is that it should ALWAYS be 'opt out' automatically and you can CHOOSE to opt in if you do happen to be one of those big fans of A.I. and there SHOULD be some protections in place for people have their work stolen and opted-in to an ai without their knowledge

ALSO Personally I always thought the 'promise' of A.I./Robots whatever was to automate everyone's basic needs so the majority of people no longer struggle so they have more time to do art. Not giving all of the robots creative control while humans get stuck working menial depressing jobs and destroying any ambitions they have bc A.I. has replaced artists.

I do genuinely think that humans will always prefer art made by humans over A.I. so its not all doom and gloom, but that being said we're in a space where company executives and souless techbros are leaping all over this seeing get rich schemes and easy money, so I would prefer to not enable them or help them in situations where I can actively make that decision in any way possible.

Anyway - like I said, I'll be shutting down this blog likely at the end of this month, I hope some of you will follow me over to a new platform, but if not - hey, thanks for being here while I've been here, it means a lot to me.

Based on my fic Looking Up

Alfred F. Jones and his twin brother Matthew were some of the most well-known kids out there having been the focus of a popular sitcom that ran from 1971-1976. America couldn’t get enough of the adorable twins on the iconic ideal family show “Looking Up”. However, after the show went off the air, they faded into obscurity, retreating from the spotlight.

Alfred doesn’t remember much from filming the show, except a general feeling of exhaustion even thinking about it. However, now the year is 1987, Alfred is now 21 years old – and his father has vanished without a trace.

He moves back into his father’s home to take care of his cat while, and begins to revisit the show that stole away most of his childhood.
