when I played Caribert, I was pretty disappointed about the lack of impact Dain seemed to have on Kaeya, honestly. during Kaeya's hangout, he didn't mention the weird cryptic blond dude who just dropped family lore once, which I thought would have been pretty important?

but in truth, I think Dain actually had a HUGE impact on Kaeya.

we can all know that from Kaeya's personal lore and former events that Kaeya had very conflicted feelings over his duty to Khaenri'ah and his love for Mondstadt, even with his estranged relationship with Diluc (which now seems partly fixed?), but in the performance route of Kaeya's hangout, Kaeya makes his choice.

The story of Prince Qubad is a very, very thinly veiled metaphor for Khaenri'ah all throughout, and then we finally get to the end scene of the play:

Kaeya: When I departed my beloved home to fight in a foreign land, I did so to honor his (my father's) wishes and for my duty to our people. Kaeya: alas, is this fate's grand design… that I should spend the rest of my days in a foreign land, till I am laid to rest in a grave far from home? K: Must it be so…? K: my dear audience, I ask you this: do you believe in fate? if fate decreed that your life was to end in tragedy, what would you do? Traveler: I would challenge my fate, and rise above it. / I would bravely face my fate. K: then so must it be! I shall discard this intaglio, and rid myself of the shackles of fate. G: my dear prince, do you intend to betray your father, and abandon your heritage? K: fate means to send the machinations of war to every corner of the land, to fan the flames of conflict til they engulf the entire world…

after a lifetime of questioning his role, Kaeya makes his choice for Mondstadt. and I think this happening after meeting Dain isn't a coincidence. (and no, not in a soulmate way or shipping way- this is Kaeya's moment of choice, not infatuation.)

after not only learning the history of his origins, Kaeya meets a Khaenri'ahn who... doesn't want to return Khaenri'ah to its glory days? who is more focused on helping others and minimizing damage than causing more for his own gain? who chose his path and has not budged since, even through loss?

Kaeya gets to see someone who is so Khaenri'ahn, so human at his core, someone who cares not for the fate and tragedy of their nation. Kaeya gets to meet someone from his homeland who tells him to leave it all behind, who tells him he should take the chance he has been given at his own life; who actively discourages the idea of Kaeya being a fated "prince" or being indebted to Khaenri'ah.

even though he never said it, I think meeting Dainsleif helped Kaeya choose his own path, which is all Dain ever truly asked of him, anyway.

The trains need to run, they are vital to the war effort. All it would take is one rogue bomb, one mishap to take out a driver and the wheels stop spinning.

I bet Shanks in the Firebug au has asked Firebug to come with him at least several times. Since their departure here is on way different terms than canon (even tough getting to Firebug that it was indeed an accident is probably gonna take a while. But I do believe it would be easier to get trough to him than canon as well) Shanks still holds out a little hope that he can set things right. Firebug holds a dagger to the dreaded redhaired pirates troath and snarls at him for any last words, only for his opponent to grab his arm in a flash and violently twist it behind his own back, managing to pin him to the wall behind him.

If Sharks had any mercy he would kill him quickly, slit his troath, run a sword trough his back, even killing him with his own explosives would be less cruel than him leaning in so close that he can feel Shanks breath against his neck. “Buggy…sail with me again. Let’s see the world like we always said we would when we were kids! The whole grand line is gonna know your name! We’ll have our own ship and our own crew like we’d always wanted and they’d adore you! I’ll let you design all the weapons you can think off! Please Buggy, let’s make Rodger prou-“

The elbow to his stomach hits Shanks hard enough to knock the air out of his lungs completly for a second and Firebug screams loud enough for his ears to ring and it makes avoiding Firebugs frantic stabbing towards him with his holdout weapon a bit of a challenge : “I DON’T NEED CHARITY FROM THE LIKES OF YOU! HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT ME LIKE YOU STILL KNOW ME!? HOW DARE YOU THINK YOU STILL KNOW ABOUT WHAT I DREAM ABOUT YOU RAT?!”

If Shanks was a merciful man he would have shouted back at Firebug or at least try to reason with him. If he wasn’t as utterly cruel as Firebug knows him to be he maybe would have looked hurt by those accusations, trying to tell him that this is not true, that he still believes in the young boy he knew years ago. Even just looking slightly remorseful would have been better than this. But Shanks doesn’t yell and he doesn’t try to argue, the smug bastards face instead bearing an expression of complete and utter understanding as he says “I see. You have your own dreams now.” Before the oncoming footsteps alert them to more marines coming and Shanks disappears.

Captain Firebug replays that scene over and over in his head. It’s disgusting. Utterly absurd. Sailing with Shanks again. Trading his secure post for a life of danger and uncertainty. Damn Idiot has lost his marbles. Like their time together as kids meant anything. Like the promises between two dumbass kids in the middle of the night mean shit to the world. Like Shanks hanging down from his Hammock and extending his pinkie towards him was akin to a blood pact when he promised him they would be the greatest pirates who ever lived (“The most amazing.” -“The strongest!” -“ The absolute FLASHIEST and COOLEST” “The most feared pirate captain duo in the world!”). It doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t…

If I didn't included any pair it's because I haven't seen them being much hyped on my tl. Other pairs like Jinmin or Taejin are acknowledged but not as hyped on tl like above.

You will see them taking shipping duo names to praise other duos or quote something they've said to/about each other or make funny sex jokes about them but when it's time for Jikook it's either ignored majority of time or they use 'Jimin and Jungkook ' or 'Jungkook and his Jimin hyung'. When others content gets released whole tl will be about that particular pair, old and new moments, yesterday it was yoonmin's day. When Joon posted those MS pic with tae every big account posted Namtae moments or something they've said to each other to show how much they appreciate that pair. But there was nothing when Jikook decided to enlist together, when some of their pics where they were sticking to each other nor when they graduated together and decided to serve rest 17 months together.

Idk probably because Jikook shatters their 'ot7 bros' belief? Or because they don't wanna see as a shipper because among all pairs only jikook does 'fanservice' ? Or their moments are charged more than their liking so posting them will make them see as a romantic delulu shipper?

I can't believe TaeJin isn't a more popular ship. There have been some… interesting moments between them, and I think Tae has made Jin nervous on a few occasions. Overall, they have many moments that could be interpreted in various ways if shippers wanted to, and I'm surprised that it's not the case.

Now that you mention it, it is true that non-jikookers rarely use the word jikook or similar to refer to Jimin and Jungkook together. And it is something they do with other pairs or even trios. Jikook definitely makes a lot of people nervous or uncomfortable although there have been many occasions where it's been hard to ignore what they do and they've (the fandom) struggled to pass it off as a friend thing, an example of that is Hickeygate. It will be interesting to see how the fandom, particularly on Twitter reacts to whatever we see in the documentary or series that Jimin and Jungkook filmed because no matter what the content is about or how much it is edited, jikook is going to be jikook.

This starts off as like an argument about hobie's age, but kinds turns into a vent/complaining post at the end. It all has to do with punkflower and hobie, but it kinda gets away from the point lol

Okay, so about hobie's age: he is probably around miles' and gwen's age or it is just up to interpretation. He is not confirmed to be 19/20, in the video that keeps being spread, if you watch the full video to get the context of what the director was saying, he is talling about the early concept/comic book version of hobie. Like, just straight up not the movie version. Which doesn't mean anything because a whole lot has changed between the comics and the movie, like, other spider people have been aged down for the movie. Anyways, people bring up two other things as well: hobie saying he goes to the pub and has a flat. One, if he is 18, then I think he can go to a pub in Britain. But also he is an anarchist who hates the police, so he'd probably sneak into a pub and drink if he was like 16 or 17. Two, for the flat, we could assume he is like his comic book version and is a squatter, which means he doesn't own the place himself. I mean, I just also don't think hobie would like landlords anyway, and would rather be homeless than pay them (because he does, in the comics at least). Also, from various different sources including the other directors and possibly the art book, his age is up to interpretation/unconfirmed, and is around gwen and miles' age. I'm waiting to get the art book to confirm the last fact, but anyways. The point is, thinking of hobie as a teenager/close in age to milee's and gwen isn't a bad thing/doesn't someone a proshipper. If people are interpreting his age as being close to miles' age and then shipping them, then that's not a proship! Barely anyone ships them and thinks hobie is an adult (and those who do are the proshippers), and proshipping means they're okay with all ships - even the problematic ones. But if you think hobie isn't an adult, then it isn't problematic. Idk how else to say it.

Also, I've seen a lot of videos on tiktok (where i spend most my time because I love edits lol, and where I really want to post this but am a bit too anxious to do so. Maybe when I get the artbook) where the posters are showing off the video I talked about with the director, or reference it, and are just so happy to be right and hate on punkflower. Like, they were actively rooting for a reason to hate and "cancel" punkflower shippers. And jesus, it really does seem a bit homophobic. And by a bit I mean a lot. (I also noticed that people are not as upset with the chaipunk ship over there? Which idk why, pavitr is also like 15/16).

Also it pissed me off at first to see videos of people using the punkflower hashtag, and then saying it's a duo name, but now it's just kinda funny. Like they'll put the most romantic song in the background with miles and hobie's, and the caption will be "not a ship! They're bffs!" Like, c'mon man. Actually, I think you can change the caption on videos, so maybe it was intended to be a ship but they got a lot of hate (which is also a huge problem) and so they put that caption.

Speaking of hate, I've seen one creator on Twitter who talked about how much hate they got over the ship, I think even before that video came out where hobie's age was "confirmed". Like, for such an unproblematic ship, people were so upset. And just, all the people taking that cropped video at face value and not even watching the full thing to properly understand the content is a bit telling. I mean, I didn't lol, but I didn't exactly believe the video immedietly anyways.

Wow yeah this became was more of me just talking about stuff at the end, but whatever I've just been needing to say it.

Robin's Friend Steve

When Robin comes back from summer break in ‘85, she keeps talking about her friend Steve. At first Casey doesn’t believe her, however, over time she observes the strange duo, who are attached at the hip.

Casey has never been friends with Robin, no one really has. She’s too loud and talks too much and is just weird overall. There’s nothing wrong with her per se, she just doesn’t fit in. There is something different about her.

However the two have been in band together since middle school and are friendly in the halls. And sometimes she even sits with Casey’s group during lunch.

Robin is nice, everyone gets along with Robin, she just doesn’t tend to stick.

Honestly, Casey feels kind of bad for her, but she is awkward during sleep over games and can never gossip along, preferring to talk about her book than the cute boys in their school.

That is all to say that it is very weird when Robin joins them again for lunch, first day back senior year, and seems different in an unknown way. None of them can place a finger on it. It’s Jessica, who opens her mouth first asking: “Did you have a good summer, Robin?”

“Yeah,” Robin grins, oblivious to the stares send her ways. “I spend most of it with Steve, worked as an ice cream scooper together. It was fun, besides the whole mall burning down thing. He’s my schmuck, my dingus, you know. We watch movies together. He dropped me off at school this morning.”

“Steve?” Jessica asks, obviously as intrigued as Casey about this boy, the first one Robin has ever mentioned.

“He’s a bit of a goof, but he makes up for it,” Robin informs them happily and obliviously. “He doesn’t go here anymore, though.”

That makes a lot more sense to Casey, a stab of pitying sympathy going through her, Robin has made up a friend – a boyfriend maybe even – to fit in. There are a lot of boys named Steve who graduate each year, so it’s vague enough. It’s honestly a miracle she didn’t say he went to a different school and she met him on holiday.

More people seem to connect the same dots Casey has, because they smile at her awkwardly, unsure of what to say. Luckily Amy changes the topic, before it can get too awkward. She says: “You worked at the mall? Were you there when it burned down?”

It’s definitely more interesting than Robin’s made up friend, so they all lean in curiously. Everyone has heard of the tragedy, the rumors still churning the mills endlessly even if it has been almost two months ago. To hear a first hand account would make them a big player in the talks about it.

However, Robin stills, hunching into herself, before she swallows her bite. All the goofy playfulness is gone from her face and she nods: “Yeah, I was there.”

“What was it like?” Casey finds herself asking, practically holding her breath with the excitement at the admission.

“A lot more yelling than you’d expect,” Robin says tersely. “It was horrible.” At that she looks up, her face look a little haunted, making all of them wince back, unable to meet those eyes.

Robin takes a deep breath, then gets up and goes to sit at another a table. It houses the people who run the Hawkins High newspaper, but Robin doesn’t interact with any of them, except giving a small nod to Nancy Wheeler, before focusing on her meal.

The message is received by those in the band: Robin does not want to talk about the mall fire. She will actively walk away if you ask, as if it had been terrible, which does nothing to quell the rumors it brings with it.

Another weird facet to Robin Buckley.

Still, the first part of the conversation would likely have been forgotten due to the weirdness of the second part, were it not for the fact that Robin keeps mentioning her new friend, Steve. She brings him up whenever she can and it’s like they’ve moved in together with how much she knows about him and talks with and about him. If he’s even real that is.

Casey honestly doesn’t believe he is for a while. No one talks this much to one person. It’s weird to never spend time with anyone else. Even Jessica, who is now dating Micheal spends more time with other people.

“She makes up everything he says to fit in,” Jessica rolls her eyes when Casey expresses this. “She wants to have someone to mention like we do, but she doesn’t. She can know all those things about him, because she is the one coming up with it.”

“That’s kind of sad,” Amy comments. “I would rather just be alone than do such a thing.”

“I mean, I guess,” Casey says, she thought that too at first, but- “It’s just- She’s so consistent, you know? It always matches up.”

“God, do you think she has a notebook?” Amy giggles, Jessica joins in and that is the end of that conversation.

However, next band practice it happens again. They’re discussing The Breakfast Club and Robin interjects: “I liked Allison the best, but Steve liked Bender the best, which doesn’t even make sense, because he’s such a jock,” she wrinkles her nose. “I thought he would find solace in Andrew. He did, but he likes Bender better.”

And Casey can’t help, but think it’s weird Robin made up a person with such different hobbies to hers. She would think Robin would claim to have found someone like her, but instead she never seems to agree with his movie opinions or jocky-ness.

“What sports does Steve play?” Casey asks Robin, which gets her a few looks and some giggles, they probably think she is about to call Robin out on her made up friend, but she is genuinely curious what sort of person might befriend Robin.

“Well, he doesn’t do sport anymore, he graduated,” Robin starts. “But I think he still goes running, which is like insane. What kind of person even likes running? You get all sweaty. But I think he was on, like, every sports team before. He loves sports. He tries to explain, but I can never get it, you know? I only know basketball and swimming for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was more, the jock.” She fake shudders with a grin.

“Of course,” Casey smiles, the gesture feeling awkward and fake, though Robin doesn’t seem to notice. A guy who did every sport, yeah, right.

“Truly, it’s horrible,” Robin continues on, oblivious. “He tells me the scores of the game each morning. I guess it’s fair, because he watches my art house movies. He claims that they are at least, most of them are just classics and he’s uncultured. I mean, I love him to bits, but who hasn’t seen Citizen Kane?”

Casey herself hasn’t seen Citizen Kane either and wants to avoid getting a detailed explanation about it, so she cuts Robin off. She asks: “Why are you friends with this Steve if you have nothing in common?”

Robin pauses and looks at her like she is the crazy one, as if she suddenly has two heads. She answers: “Because he’s great,” like that is obvious information.

“Oh my god,” Jessica exclaims gleefully, suddenly interested in the conversation. “Robin, do you like Steve?”

If she’s honest, Robin kind of looks like she has never considered the possibility, however before Casey can be sure, the look is gone, replaced by a blush. “I- I mean, he is attractive,” she stutters and Casey can barely believe it.

Some rumors are going around about Robin and why she might never talk about a boy, but here she is, blushing about a boy.

It doesn’t occur to Casey that Robin might be embarrassed by the question, flushing under the sudden attention. She doesn’t think that Robin is stuttering, because she has to find an answer to protect herself, mentally bracing herself for the minefield she found herself in without warning.

“Tell me more,” Jessica demands.

“His, uhm- His hair is floppy and nice,” Robin starts, everyone oblivious that she is thinking off what all the girls said when Steve was in the back room when they worked at Scoops Ahoy. “And he’s nice.”

Casey almost can’t believe her ears as she pounces on the topic with Amy and Jessica, sadly interrupted by the teacher, who cuts the conversation short, before they can truly get into it. Robin slinking away.

After that, she avoids them, however the curiosity of Casey and the others has been sparked and they discuss it later.

“This makes so much sense,” Jessica exclaims. “She didn’t make him up, but she isn’t friends with this guy! She just imagines she is, because she likes him.”

“Which Steve do you think it is?” Casey wonders, able to picture what Jessica is sketching, feeling bad for Robin.

“Oh my god, do you think it’s Steve Harrington,” Amy exclaims. “I think my sister said he works at Family Video now, doesn’t Robin work there too?”

“He totally does,” Jessica agrees, looking like someone gave her a goldmine. “I can’t believe Buckley has a crush on king Steve.”

“She did seem obsessed with him, remember, when they shared Mrs. Click’s class,” Casey brings up, having also been in that class.

“Exactly,” Jessica agrees, excitedly.

“That’s so sad,” Amy says, not sounding like she pities Robin much. “That she makes up that he is friends with her.”

Casey feels a little uncomfortable at the comment, it sounds a bit too mean. Especially when Jessica adds: “Yeah, at that point go all in and say you’re dating.”

“Maybe she’s friendly with him, if they work together,” Casey says. “She might have exaggerated a bit, but it’s not too out there.”

“Come on, Casey,” Amy rolls her eyes. “She claims he drives her to school every morning. You don’t believe that, do you?”

“I guess not,” Casey says, not wanting to be excluded from their group. She is a band nerd, she knows to be happy with the friends she has, okay.

However, the next morning, before band practice, they all linger outside, instead of waiting inside with the rest. Robin is hardly ever late, so they don’t really worry. They’re just curious why Robin thinks she can keep up the lie when anyone can just check in the morning.

The car that rolls up is quite obviously not Steve Harrington’s. It’s a bit beat up and behind the wheel is an older man with glasses. Robin says goodbye to the man, stumbling out.

As to not look conspicuous, Jessica light a cigarette and waits until Robin is nearby, before she says: “I didn’t know your dad’s name is Steve, Robin.”

Casey cringes at the faux-sweet tone that Robin doesn’t pick up. Her heart plummeting when she replies: “It isn’t, his name is Frank. Truly an old man name in my opinion, like, who names their kid Frank, honestly. Steve was busy,” without seeing the trap.

“Really?” Jessica asks, faking interest. “What was he doing?”

“Oh,” Robin says surprised and shifts her eyes away. She shrugs: “I don’t know, I don’t live in his pocket, you know.”

The whole thing feels like a lie, because it is. Robin knows exactly where Steve is. His parents are home, so he has to play house with them. He hates it and she isn’t about to tell some random people that, there’s a besties code. Plus, she doesn’t want to fake a crush on Steve. Iew.

Of course, Casey doesn’t know this and winces, knowing what sort of rumors will be circulating about Robin by the time lunch period arrives.

“Just thought you would,” Jessica shrugs, like she actually was and stubs the cigarette. “Walk to practice together?”

“Sure,” Robin smiles, seemingly relieved the conversation is over and not seeing the look Amy and Jessica share. Casey keeps her eyes on the ground, not wanting to be in on the look. Robin seems a lot nicer than her own friends.

Indeed, rumors circulate about Robin. About how she’s making up being friends with Steve Harrington, like a sad weirdo.

And Robin remains painfully oblivious. She still talks about Steve daily, brings him up at practice or during lunch. Sometimes however, she falter as she does, glancing around. It makes Casey feel like she does know that she isn’t believed. In those moments, she can’t look Robin in her eyes, guilt eating at her.

It feels a bit like passive aggressive warfare. Robin’s ability to bring Steve into every conversation she has vs. the ability of the other to not snap that she should stop lying. Tensions that are rising and bound to break.

However, before they can, the impossible happens.

It’s an after school practice and Robin is doing that thing she does when she’s anxious when she’s unable to stand still. Casey notes she doesn’t have her trumpet with her.

“Where is your trumpet?” Vickie asks. Casey doesn’t really talk to Vickie, but she seems nice enough and her words stop Robin’s nervous fiddling, which Casey is grateful for. It can be really distracting.

“I, uh- I forgot it,” Robin squeaks.

Vickie frowns for a second, then smiles, putting an arm on her shoulder as she says: “I’m sure there is a spare. Don’t worry.”

“Oh, uhm, thank you,” Robin stutters, now blushing. She must be embarrassed at being called out like that, Casey thinks. Then Robin finds her footing again: “That is really nice, but it’s fine. Well, it’s not fine that I forgot, because I need it, so that sucks. I’m always forgetting stuff when I shouldn’t and it’s annoying, so I know it’s not fine. Sorry, what I’m trying to say, it’s- I called Steve, he’s bringing it over.”

Silence.

Now, it is up to Vickie, whether she will go along with it, or tell Robin that she can’t rely on her imaginary friend to bring her stuff. Casey thinks Vickie will go along with it, never one to believe rumors. However that still leaves everyone in proxy, who heard.

Before anyone can make a decision, a different voice calls out: “Oi, Robbie, come get your flute thingy.”

Robin’s head whips around, big smile on her face, though she complains: “It’s not a flute thingy, dingus, you know that. It’s a trumpet. A glorious instrument that should be honored by all-”

“Yeah, yeah.” She is cut off, at the door stands none other than Steve Harrington. His hair is perfectly coiffed and his muscles bulge under his polo. He waves Robin’s rambling away, but he’s giving her an equally big grin. “If it’s such a glorious instrument, you shouldn’t leave it in my car like you do with all your other shit.”

Casey honestly can’t quite believe it. No one there can. It is actual king Steve, who took time out of his day to bring Robin her trumpet. The trumpet she left in his car. She hasn’t been lying. Robin Buckley is friends with Steve Harrington.

“You love all my shit. Besides, it’s not that bad,” Robin argues, taking the trumpet and pulling Steve into a hug.

“Yes, it is that bad,” Steve protests as he hugs Robin back, head resting on hers. “I don’t even know why you own that many hair ties, you don’t even have hair.”

Offended Robin pulls back and says: “I have hair, you’ve braided it. Just because I’m not like you, Mr. Hair, doesn’t mean you can insult my locks.”

In turn Steve sticks out his tongue and they continue to bicker. The rest of band just watches the duo, unsure of what to think. Ever since that first hug, they haven’t let go of each other, arms looped around waists even as they argue about Robin’s hair tie habits and Steve’s nickpicky-ness surrounding his car.

They look comfortable, so intertwined together, Casey thinks. However, she isn’t reminded of Jessica, who is often disgustingly wrapped up in Micheal, instead she is more reminded of her two baby cousins. Twins. They never leave each other alone. Robin and Steve look like them as they talk.

The duo is cut off by the teacher, who comes in and calls out: “Everyone get ready. Yes, that includes you, Buckley. Say bye to your boyfriend.”

Steve and Robin share a look, before they burst into giggles. Steve plants a kiss on Robin’s forehead, Robin leaves one on his cheek. Then she’s walking back to her spot, though she keeps hold of Steve’s hand until he is too far to keep a hold off. They keep waving until the door is closed and Steve leaves, practice beginning.

After that, different rumors pop up. These spread further than band, being deemed more juicy than a delusional girl.

Because that girl isn’t delusional. She is friends with Steve Harrington, the king of Hawkins High, even if he lost that throne to Billy in the end. Steve has befriended someone, who no one would have ever thought. Of course people want to know.

Amy and Jessica enjoy the attention, however, Casey feels uncomfortable. They hadn’t believed Robin and now they were talking about her and what she told them like they always had. Just to be popular.

Casey doesn’t want to be an outcast, she wants to fit in and have an okay high school experience before she can get out of Hawkins and move to college. Amy and Jessica have always been her friends and she doesn’t want to give that up.

However, she finds herself sitting with Vickie during lunch more and more often as her friends parade around the tables with the more popular kids.

Robin has taken to sitting with Nancy during lunch. The friendship stirring more rumors, since Nancy is Steve’s ex and Robin is either Steve’s girlfriend or illicit sibling if you want to believe what people say.

Not only that, but it seems that with the conformation, Casey sees the duo everywhere.

She is out to buy some ice cream, the last of the nice days of the year and there is Steve, Robin hanging off him as a little black girl who’s with them says: “You made a deal, sailor. I want four scoops.”

“You never finish four scoops,” Steve protests. “Plus, all that sugar is horrible for your teeth, your mom will kill me. You can have two. I’m serious, Erica.”

Erica turns to Robin, lifting an eyebrow as she asks: “Do you know something about honoring of contracts or do you need me to pull out the constitution?”

“I don’t know, do you want me to explain to him that contracts with minors aren’t upheld by most courts?” Robin counters. “Just let him pay for the two.”

“Fine,” Erica says after a moment, throwing up her hands.

“Thanks, Rob,” Steve tells her, nuzzling his face into her neck.

“Course, dingus,” Robin smiles back, ruffling his hair, a thing that seems illegal to Casey. Though the whole interaction in front of her already seems like something from another dimension.

Casey also spots Robin getting out of the very recognizable car that Steve owns at the drop off each morning. Sometimes they’re joined by a Freshman, but often it is just the two of them. Whenever she goes, she gives Steve this big hug that he returns, the two of them clinging to each other as if they’re afraid to let go.

And every time Casey sees them, they look happy. They have lively conversations, hold hands, give each other big grins.

At some point Casey sees them walk on a cold day. Robin is inside Steve’s coat, the two of them sharing it as they awkwardly hobble along. She hears Robin loudly say: “This sucks. It’s almost as cold as that bunker.”

“That wasn’t this bad, you just don’t know how to dress for the weather,” Steve protests.

“I do, the weatherman just lied to me,” Robin pouts. Whatever Steve replies to that is lost as the distance between the duo and Casey grows bigger.

If Casey is honest, she is quite jealous of the easy friendship the two seem to share. Amy and Jessica always make Casey feel like there are wrong answers or if she can do the wrong thing and be dropped. Steve and Robin seem to just like each other, even if they disagree on things. Though, Casey suspects they just like debating over random things.

She wonders what it is like to have a friend like that, but she doesn’t dare approach Robin. A part of her still wants to get out of high school semi-normally and befriending Robin is counterproductive in that. So, she just watches from the sidelines.

They go together to homecoming, both in suits and dancing like idiots. Neither of them seem to care about the stares, wrapped up in their own worlds.

Robin briefly shows up to a Halloween party, has one drink, then disappears into a toilet. Steve later shows up, uninvited and picks her up. She looks shaken and clings to him as he soothes her. Casey wonders what happened, but doesn’t dare to ask. Even if she had, she wouldn’t have been told about a bunker under the ground and cold needles.

Over winter break, they’re everywhere together as well, even if they’re not working. Casey is reminded of what she thought when Robin was lying, about how they must have moved in together with how much she seems to know about him. Looking at them sharing a scarf that doesn’t seem so far fetched.

Of course after winter break, school truly takes off. They’re all drowning in acceptance essays, mock exams and stress. No one is immune.

Casey looses sight of Robin and Steve, the odd duo not important enough for her as she tries to get into a good college with her grades.

Amy and Jessica barely hang out with her anymore. She stopped seeking them out a while ago and they haven’t cared to reach out to her again. It’s a bit lonely, she’ll admit, but she can use the time to study and do volunteer work that’ll look good on her college applications. Besides, she has been feeling better about herself without her old friends.

1986 is shaping up to be a pretty good year with the Hawkin’s Tigers going to the championships for the first time in years. This obviously means that band is there as well for the prep rally. Casey isn’t in the same section as Robin, but she’s close enough.

She isn’t sure if she should be surprised that Steve is also there and the two manage to make jokes through the National Anthem. However, she can’t help but note that Steve keeps ignoring his date to make faces at Robin. How he seems to have changed from when he was in school.

They have become part of her scenery over the past half year, she realizes. The duo has been popping up everywhere and she quite likes observing their weirdly close antics. When asked if they were dating, Robin denied it and she looked genuine. Casey believes her, unable to shake the twins from her mind when she looks at them.

A part of her wonders what made the two so close after the summer, when before then they had seemingly never interacted. Another part of her is resigned to it remaining a mystery, the odd duo continuing to be odd to the end.

However, they are blasted out of her mind when the news of Chrissy’s death hits the news. The whole town is on edge, looking for the unfamiliar. If Casey would have thought about Steve and Robin, she only would have noticed that the two seemed to have disappeared from the streets, likely in hiding as so many other that were afraid.

Casey herself is very afraid. She kind of looks like Chrissy and while the other two targets were boys, she can’t help but fear he has a type. That she’ll be a target.

It is almost funny how quickly worrying about a murderer can be overshadowed by something bigger. Way bigger. Hawkins splitting open kind of bigger.

She is lucky that her house has survived. Still, her parents are taking her a few towns over to where her grandma lives, hoping to let Casey graduate there on time, since Hawkins High now functions as shelter. They’re not yet selling the house, it’s worth less that its mortgage now and both her mother and father hope to return. Both grew up there and both wish to stay.

Right now Casey is delivering some stuff to the shelter, everyone wants to help those less fortunate after the earthquake and her mother has been planning on doing a deep clean anyway. All the clothes Casey has outgrown can be used by someone else.

And it is not until she is on her way to bring the clothes to the folding table that she remembers the duo, because Steve is folding clothes.

The moment she sees him – she knows Robin must be okay too, a stab of guilt for not worrying about her earlier going through her – because there is no way Steve could look like that if Robin had been hurt. Not even if the world got flipped upside down. Those are a package deal.

Indeed as she gets closer, she spots Robin at a table with Vickie, the two of them laughing as they make sandwiches. They look happy despite it all and Casey feels a little bit of jealousy in her bones as she watches.

Casey has never been friends with Robin, but when she sees the people she has befriended, she wishes she had. Robin loves them loudly and wholly and that seems like a nice thing to have, people who care. It’s different than what Casey knows.

She stays a few minutes, sees Vickie say goodbye, before Robin makes big eyes at Steve and runs to him, jumping on his back. Steve catches her like this is routine, swinging her around, before setting her down.

There’s a lot of tragedy in this town, but they have found happiness in the other.

Itafushi vs. Satosugu Analysis

Posed with this question on twitter which had me go like “yeah thats not gonna happen.”

“If Megumi and Yuji end up the same as Gojo and Geto... what are we going to do? “

disclaimer: just using their ship names in reference to the relationship dynamic between the characters in canon, not connotating a romantic relationship

I feel like satosugu and itafushi are specifically portrayed to be foils of each other, to compare the ways that itfs excels in what stsg failed at (honest communication and being sensitive to each other’s feelings, acceptance of each other despite differences in philosophy, etc)

Both itfs and stsg have pivotal philosophical debates on what their personal beliefs surrounding “saving people” entails, which narratively serves to establish each person’s character and goals as jujutsu sorcerers. however, despite being about a similar topic, they are approached completely differently.

fushiguro claims “selfish” reasons for saving people, saving those he personally believes deserved to be saved, because he isn’t some kind of righteous hero, hes just a jujutsu sorcerer, and he does not want to save someone who will just cause harm others in the future.

itadori, on the other hand, maintains the belief that all humans deserve to life a normal life and die a normal death, regardless of what they have done, or will do. If someone were in trouble, and you were the only one capable of saving them, itadori’s belief is that you should try your best to save them. 

Both of them acknowledge this difference in philosophy, but interestingly enough neither disagree with each other’s conviction either. They find the meaning and think about each other’s positions in life that made them come to their own separate conclusions, and respect it even if it doesn’t exactly align with their own, with itadori stating that even if their philosophies are different, doesn’t mean they can’t both be right.

itafushi consistently seek to understand each other’s perspective and put themselves in each other’s shoes. This makes them more empathetic and more willing to listen and understand those they care about. 

stsg have always struggled with this from the beginning. Gojo and Fushiguro have relatively the same philosophy, as do Itadori and Geto (i could do a whole other analysis comparing gojo vs megumi as well as itadori vs. geto goddd) regarding the concept of saving people, though Gojo is much more crass about it than Fushiguro was, most likely to bait Geto into a fight, which Geto easily falls for. Even though they’re close and inseparable friends and the self-named “strongest duo”, there are clear moral lines that divide the two that they use to push against each other. I mean, they literally escalate into a near physical duel over it in not even two pages. 

on another note, gojo has been noted by gege to have relied on geto as a moral compass. your own moral and ethical code being dictated by another person can be extremely unhealthy and become manipulative. gojo saw geto as the pinnacle of morality (which is ironic considering his moral decisions a year later) to the point where whether gojo would massacre an entire religious group all depended on geto’s response at that moment. 

meanwhile geto had his own inner idealization of gojo as the strongest alone, not in the way the rest of the world perceived him, but in his own way as the supposed other half of the strongest duo. you can feel a certain sense of...envy or resentment when geto wishes he were gojo so he could achieve the society he gave up everything for, even though he was supposed to be the strongest WITH gojo. thats how far he felt from gojo without gojo realizing he had felt that way.

satosugu overall have a lot of misconceptions about each other they accept as inherent truths though they never actually confirmed, some of which are realized too late, others never revealed at all.

megumi could almost immediately tell when yuji had gone through some trauma as soon as he saw him alive again, and immediately brought it up to make sure he was okay, which even though yuji was not okay, it was a huge gesture from megumi to stay emotionally in touch with yuji when he can see him struggling.

gojo, however, doesn’t notice when the same thing happens to suguru, though he does notice something is off with suguru. not to say that it was satoru’s responsibility to bring suguru from the brink of his mental break, but rather it shows how their wavelengths are no longer as in sync as they used to be. with satoru having suguru as his moral compass as well, satoru may also have some doubts that suguru would have his own moral struggles since he depends on him to always make the right and just choices (oh the tragic irony...)

TLDR; itafushi tackle their differences and issues with each other with open arms and seeking to understand each other with honesty. they don’t apply a codependent attitude towards each other, being very close and understanding without idealizations of each other beyond reason. itafushi are just raw truths to each other from the beginning. satosugu...have a lot of internal issues they never bring to each other and just let fester until the dam breaks. they have preconceptions about each other and idealize each other without communicating them to each other, adopting both an unhealthy codependent relationship without proper communications. 

i think itafushi have a much better foundation of support to survive whatever ordeals they will undergo, and most likely be able to pull each other from their respective brinks when they come compared to satosugu’s tragic end.

One Piece Chapter 1107 - Initial Thoughts

And we're back from another break

A break of a lot of implications; Gear Fifth is back, Bonney controls all Pacifista, and Giants! Things are feeling like they're hitting a threshold, but still not enough to call an incident, so there must be more to unfold

let's unwrap it then!

The giants are on the move, and not just our Little Garden duo but our Enies Lobby duo of Oimo and Kashii

Gonna be kinda awkward when the Giant Warrior Pirates meet Grand Fleet members the New Giant Warrior Pirates, unless they merge into a super Giant Warrior Pirates crew

Usopp catches sight of the giants and is elated to see them again

Also a panel to recap Little Garden for those faint of memory

Edison makes a point that their arrival is likely from Media Coverage, and that the crew is likely being painted in a bad light

Usopp though knows the giants aren't here to fight, they are here to help, and is thus compelled to make it go smoothly

Every time Lilith hits Brook's head I feel like it makes a bobblehead noise

Lilith though is still concerned about stopping the ship, before it burns up on the barrier

Jinbe also laments that they can't afford to dilly dally

Disappointingly, Zoro is still fighting Lucci

It's not just a Zoro-fan thing, you can't go from beating King - a Lunarian and a Yonko commander - to still fighting Lucci, a government assassin Luffy's beaten twice

Also 'I'm in a hurry' is not a good excuse, both men feel like they're in control of the fight

Lucci thinking Zoro is anything like dead weight is folly anyway, the man has met the grim reaper

Back on the coast, 30 ships have been sunk by Pacifista

Vice Admiral Nine-Chins (TCB called him Red King) takes helm on strategy and leads with battleships, lamenting having to attack their own weapons

Back to Luffy though and he wants to know why Bonney is crying

Bonney asks him why he didn't tell her he's Nika, which Luffy doesn't know the name

Also reminder that Bonney still hasn't told Luffy about her time with Sabo at the Reverie

He also roasts Bonney about her Nika punch, so Bonney asks him to show her how it's done

Social Media went mad about Luffy laughing while Vegapunk got stabbed but he literally just didn't notice, now he has he's shocked

Yeah the holier than thou shtick doesn't work on Luffy

And apparently so doesn't the Eye-Shot thing

A Dawn Gatling rocks Saturn and it doesn't get old seeing him get smacked

The Bonney Retrieval Squad use this as a chance to get out of dodge

Vegapunk however believes his number's up, and asks them to leave him

Kizaru, dude, like, let it go

Sanji this time blocks a direct blast, only took like half a year for Sanji fans to get to this fight

Though I daren't go on twitter right now given how Sanji fans will compare this to Zoro still fighting Lucci (even though Raid Suit Sanji could barely fight King)

We could've done more with Franky too, rather than make him a reaction guy

'Light doesn't hold a candle to love' - dude she's 12, simmer

Kizaru laments the expectation that they'll have to bring more heads now, but Sanji's lighting his cigarette so you know he's down for action

Well there's our Blackbeard answer; Devon and Van Augur only

She taps Saturn on the leg after some mockery and that's 'mission accomplished', all that build up just to touch a leg

Jokes aside though this can be big, Teach wanted an in with the WG and now his Kitsune crewmember can transform into one at will, that's some carte blanche there

Saturn notes how Devon wasn't one to be a subordinate, but when Devon notes that Teach is special, Saturn makes a note about his lineage

Possibly another Buccaneer? Or something more? Something Devon is at least privy to as well

Classic evil plan though, they want the whole damn world

Before Saturn can spike them though they warp out, but not off the island, Augur still has limits

The guy goes full sycophant on the duo, claiming hero worship and a desire to be on Blackbeard's crew, man just wants off the island

I would laugh like hell if Blackbeard also shoved him in a barrel though XD

Well a lot more is happening, including some more battle lines being drawn.

It was a good day for Sanji stans, they are finally gonna get Sanji vs Kizaru while Zoro still deals with Lucci. I'm still disappointed that there's no real reason for his delay, but Oda's never about power scaling, Zoro's delayed because the plot demands he be delayed, much like how the plot demands that Brook doesn't just make an ice pillar, the plot demands that Nami could just use Zeus to carry the crew and the Sunny out of Egghead or the plot demands that Atlas doesn't give Franky the light punching tech foreshadowed at the start of the arc.

In a way it is annoying and a tad lazy (much like off-screening the Seraphim whose value dips every chapter and York's capture - who has been ominously missing) but we do have to remember that Oda is still somehow human. I like Sanji and it'll be a good fight, but I do prefer there to be parity and logic, like just give them both a strong opponent? Let Usopp fight Lucci like he challenged in Enies Lobby to will Luffy to fight.

The Blackbeard stuff does feel underwhelming in the moment, but it's definitely a long term thing, disappointed in Caribou too because he showed slight semblance of a heart but now he's gonna spill all about the Ancient Weapons to Blackbeard and endanger more of our allies, should've left him in Wano and brought Carrot instead... Still notable absences for Stussy and Kaku though, Robin is healing up but still wanna see her well. We're still a question mark over Law, Bepo, Perona, Moria, Drake and most of SWORD & Tashigi too. And the sleeping giant is slowly continuing its awakening.

Things continue to happen at a rumble, but something big has to burst forth as a result.

here's my honest opinion on vmk's bond in the past few years.

i'll start with taekook rekindling their bromance in ITS1, with jimin's help. i feel like after the years they spent distant (maybe because of tae's mental health making him close off and maybe because of his friend circle outside of bts), jungkook got used to not being close to taehyung as they used and he was okay with it. but taehyung fixed his bond with jimin and genuinely wanted to do the same with jk, but couldn't without jimin's help, that's why jimin tricked (lol) jk into going out and having that conversation with tae.

ok, so they fixed their friendship, and they both definitely know that they're a popular duo within and outside of the fandom, and tae loves giving armys what they want as long as it's appropriate for him to do, he's also mischievous and likes wreaking havoc and enjoys causing a stir in the fandom that involves his name.

armys love taekook, (as a ship or a unit it doesn't matter) and tae loves jk (as his best(?) friend) so he wants them both to be the power duo armys want them to be, and that can be done simply by giving armys taekook selcas, a song (probably 🔜), tidbits of harmless information, and skinship. normal stuff that idols do for fan service.

and please, know what fan service is before you jump me, im not saying tkk aren't close, they are. all of bts do fan service to capitalize on their already existing bonds. but let's continue.

tkkrs are jimin antis. idk if tae knows that, but jimin definitely does and probably jk does too. so jimin started mentioning jungkook less because those mfs always cause a scene whenever he does. and tae, well he knows his audience and knows what they want. i don't think he has any bad intentions but he figures since him and jk are friends anyway, and his fans love to hear about jk or seeing tae with him, he wants to give them what they want. as any artist who loves their fans wants to do.

but since taehyung and jennie's relationship has been outed, taehyung uses taekookers to pull the attention away from himself and jennie onto him and jungkook instead. by singling out jungkook, mentioning him a lot, replying to posts about him, making jk join him on Instagram live, posting pictures/videos of them, updating armys about jungkook, promising army to do a karaoke live with jk, and actually starting a live from jk's home a minute before leaving to let armys know that they hung out.

now jimin isn't stupid, he knows why taehyung does what he does, and it involves jungkook too, who doesn't really get hated on like jimin does because he's been basically put under taehyung's wing. so every time taehyung feeds the fans who love him and jungkook, he—unintentionally—brings jimin hate in the process, and makes himself look closer to jungkook than jimin, something that jimin can't fight back since he decided to keep his bond with jungkook a private matter.

jungkook doesn't get hated on like jimin when there's jikookery involved, so he took matters into his own hands instead since jimin can't. and believe me when i say, jungkook LOVES bragging about his jimin rights lol. jikookery used to come from jimin's side, selcas, updates, you name it. and jungkook was happy with that, but since jimin can't do it anymore without getting trashed for it, jungkook does it instead. because the man won't just sit aside and let people (especially tkkrs, whom he doesn't like or fuck with) think he doesn't care about jimin. he obviously can't tell us that they hang out, because that's not his decision alone, and jimin doesn't want to. but he can at least share his love and support, no? and so he does.

in conclusion, jimin probably doesn't like taehyung's antics, but he isn't letting the hate get to him anyway so he lets taehyung do his thing since he's a grown man who knows what's best for him, and if tae decided to play with the cult who hates his friend, jimin won't stop him, but he'll put up barriers between them. and jk probably doesn't mind tae using him for taekookery as long as jk gets to combat it with jikookery from his side lol. if someday jk can't combat tae's attempts at taekookery wth jikookery anymore, best believe he'll put an end to the taekook shop once and for all. that man does NAWWTTT play with tkkrs at ALLLL.

but anyway, please remember that this is all just how i perceive things and not to be taken as a fact! i am prone to changing my opinions if the members show something that contradicts any of what i'm saying, or if we're presented with a new solid narrative from the members themselves. you're welcome to correct me or add to my pov if you like though <3

oliver was one of the best parts of the season and i loved him so much ohhh the skrunkle

aiden & james were my favorite characters i think! <333 i really liked their development i love gay people i screamed at their first real kiss

it took a while for me to get used to every character because of their mics and acting. some of the acting was not believable at all and was the reason i dislikes some characters for a bit (cough rosa maria cough) before eventually warming up to them. it’s clear they improved a lot and found better actors for season 1. i’m curious how the S2 actors will be in S3.

maggy was genuinely annoying and not just because of her voice. sorry :(

The Scully Family In-Depth (Part I): Childhood and the Pilot

It's time to break down the All-American Scullys with their strong sense of family, tightly held religious beliefs, and psychic leanings that were hinted at but never fully explored in canon.

**Note**: All of the Scullys have had their personalities assessed and Typed (Scully, Maggie, Melissa, and the Bill Scullys and Charlie?); so feel free if you want to see how they operate in their own minds (and with each other, explored in the Bill Scullys post.)

Childhood

Bill proposed to Maggie when he stepped off his ship after the Cuban Blockade; and they played "Beyond the Sea"-- the song that heralded his arrival-- at their wedding (and later at his funeral.) The dates are a bit snarly, as canonically Bill and Melissa were conceived out of wedlock to a very Catholic family, but that's due to the show's writing team not having had a show bible to refer back to (but also makes perfect sense for Maggie's freedom-seeking, "don't tie me down" character... so make of that what you will.) He and his wife were in love and happy, with her gently teasing him in Beyond the Sea about his fastidious ways ("As if he's an authority on having a good time")

and he good-naturedly taking it on the chin.

As a father, Bill Scully gave his children clear instructions on what not to do while they played, but gave them space to make their own decisions.

He also made model WWII planes with his sons (which Scully remembered the names of years later in Piper Maru); and read Moby Dick to his daughter over and over as a bedtime story, bonding over their own nicknames of Ahab and Starbuck (ones Scully honored when naming her subsequent pets.)

Scully's childhood was spent moving from one Naval Base to another (with a cut out line in Kitsunegari stating they'd been stationed in Japan once) but kept afloat with a heavy dose of tradition. Each Christmas, her father would always put the star or angel on top of the tree (mentioned in A Christmas Carol)

and would always take the decorations down the day after Christmas. One of those Christmases Maggie gifted her daughters their crosses

...which Scully also claims was a birthday present. Of her two daughters, Melissa doesn't seem too enthusiastic to receive a cross

while Scully feels honored to be given a symbol of her family's beliefs. Both girls drift from the faith before the events of S1; but Scully gravitates back to as an anchor amidst the turbulence of her repeated life traumas.

An important note: When did Scully receive her necklace? Canon says on her birthday, but shows Maggie handing it to her on Christmas Is this a show bible problem, or can it be explained? Yes, indeedy, it can! Pick which explanation you like best (or all of them!)--

#1. It's both: the original chain was longer than the chain Scully wears in the series, meaning that Maggie gifted her another, smaller chain on an ensuing birthday.

#2. The necklace Scully wears now is her sister's necklace, possibly gifted to her by Melissa on her birthday. Melissa's necklace had a shorter, more delicate chain

compared to her sister's (who was a rough-and-tumble tomboy);

and it could be an heirloom Scully cherished from her sister and gave to Emily, believing her to have been Melissa's daughter.

#3. Regardless, Mulder would have had to rifle through Scully's apartment to have found the longer chain; meaning the one he wore to California (3) was probably found in late night wanderings to her place, revisiting the scene of the crime perhaps for clues but really for penance. (Or he bought a new chain so he could wear her cross? Unlikely considering his habits and cheapskate second-nature.)

Little Scully and her brothers were close-- so much so that their fight over a rabbit Scully rescued (Bill threatened to stew it and Dana shoved and yelled at him, standing her ground)

was resolved without hanging resentment; and the duo later gallivanted in the woods with Charlie to shoot. Charlie was active participant in their childhood activities; and he and Bill bought their sister a BB gun for one of her birthdays-- though likely it was bought with the lion's share of Bill's pocket money, which would be in-line with his character (see Type post here)--

even though her birthday was in February and they didn't shoot the gun until autumn (there's that show bible problem again.)

Death plays a key part in Scully's early memories: when Bill was bullying her about the rabbit, she accidentally smothered it to death while trying to protect it.

And when shooting with her brothers, she'd wounded a snake in her fervor, grasping it in sorrow and crying in remorse.

Maggie noted: "Through tears she was saying that: 'Something was missing from the snake.' She'd taken something that was not hers to take. And although deathly afraid of snakes, Dana held the animal as if sheer human will could keep it alive."

These experiences are pivotal for Scully's character:

She realized has an unreasonable hope against reality, denying what she cannot understand.

It's why she gravitated to science: it helped her explain and quantify life's tragedies and morbid mysteries, giving her answers to make peace with the ups and downs she encounters. It also stripped her of her denial and excuses, holding her steadfastly honest character accountable. Her main defense is (and was) denial; but her honesty checkmates that impulse, accepting the truth even if it's unpleasant.

Scully also developed a profound fear of death--

avoiding all discussion of it later after her abduction and during her cancer arc-- fear which drew her to medicine, then pathology, then self-protection and harm prevention in law enforcement. Likely, this fear drew her to a career in death, a way to understand and overcome it. While a part of her is resigned to the cycle of life and death, she never truly makes peace with loss, feeling it keenly in all areas of her life. She is later baffled that Alfred Fellig could have "too much life"; and it's not until her experience in Tithonus that she is shaken with the realization that there is a fate worse than death.

Melissa Scully, meanwhile, never feared death: she respected it, viewing it as a release for a soul from being trapped. Her childhood seems to have been spent observing and nurturing her sister-- playing hopscotch and celebrating her sister's successful jump;

complicitly sneaking down to open presents early;

and encouraging her to follow her heart and join the FBI when both of their parents were upset that Scully had left medicine. Scully's subconscious even dreams her into the rabbit memory, blending Melissa and Emily as a silent, watchful observer on the stairs.

As a teenager, Scully sneaked out late with her mother's cigarettes, quietly smoking on the porch and hoping she wouldn't get caught because her father would "kill her." She seemed to have quit the habit by the time she dropped out of medical school and joined the FBI, which finally earned her father's anger.

At Christmas, she was torn between doing what she felt was right and walking away from Quantico so she would no longer disappoint her Captain Scully and Maggie.

Melissa is the one who encouraged her to "follow her heart", stabling Scully's insecurity with a steady faith that "There is no right or wrong. Life's just a path."

Melissa and Captain Scully seem to have had the greatest impacts on Scully's mentality-- Melissa encouraged and pushed her sister out of her comfort zone while always standing beside her in support (which Scully needs because of her Ni Demon, post here); and Ahab cherished his Starbuck, teaching her constellations while they boated and proudly supporting her in everything she did... except the FBI. Scully clung to them both: she took after her father's stoicism and needed his strength; but she needed Melissa's carefree backup even though they could never see eye-to-eye and often got into meaningless bickerings once they became adults.

As for the rest of the family, Maggie was Scully's steady, unwavering rock of support: she was just as angry as her husband about her daughter's career change, but by the time S1 unfolds, she has set aside those frustrations and is wholeheartedly supporting her baby girl, even "encouraging" her husband (with imperious eyebrows) to get over the awkward tension he and his little girl had built up. Bill seems to be on good terms with Scully whenever they show up in each other's lives even when he's being a pain (which will be explored in future); and Scully seems more actively involved in Charlie's life up until late S4 (again, will be discussed in future parts.) But as a whole, the Scullys seem to be tightly bonded, with their disagreements becoming water under the bridge rather than dealbreakers... for now.

Pilot

Scully begins her career with the FBI, ready to distinguish herself.

"I was recruited out of medical school," she recounts, tamping down her proud smile as best she can.

The only comment she makes about her family is that: "My parents still think it as an act of rebellion,

but uh..."-- she trails off with a Cheshire Cat grin.

Her parents weren't wrong, as evidenced by her deeply satisfied smirk

(exactly like the one she had in Never Again while "rebelling" against her life and getting the tattoo "that she deserves.)

and her own teen rebellion-- afraid of but hoping to get caught.

While small in mention, it is large in consequence: Scully is pursuing the FBI because it feels right; but she is also deriving a little satisfaction at pushing at boundaries and making a name for herself through her own endeavors. We shall see how that unfolds.

My thoughts on Dragons Rising (Spoilers)

At first I was very skeptical about dragons rising replacing the ninja with a bunch of new characters. It happens in a lot of shows I used to like and it never feels the same. However, I have grown to love them just as much. They're all just younger versions of the ninja, and they're starting to realize that.

First there's Wyldfyre and Kai. Aside from basically having the same power, (I'm still saying heat and fire are almost the same, idc that some cans burned and some melted) wyldfyre is very unpredictable with a more showy style of fighting and huge love for pranks. She also has a very hot temper, and thinks she's in charge. At first they're always at each other's throats fighting and yelling until Kai finally realizes that she's just like he was when he was younger. Did we really think we would ever see Kai, KAI???, of all people teaching meditation? I don't think so. And they're duo is absolutely deadly. We saw that armory explosion. I'm so excited for more WyldKai duo (Not a ship name, just a duo name) Aside from all the fighting, which lets be honest is bound to happen any time Kai is in the room, they are perfect partners and any time you need an explosion, they'll be there.

Sora and Nya fit as well. Tech savvy? Check. Trying to prove they're strong enough without their parents? Check. They both also struggled to find their true potential. Both had different specific problems, but in comparison to the other ninja, it was the hardest for Nya, and that might be true for sora as well as she's still reliant on Ryu for her power. Another big thing for Nya was being the "Girl Ninja", and I think that might come up in conversation with those two if Sora ever feels powerless. They would also make some absolute killer mechs and vehicles working together. With Nya's experience and intelligence, along with Soras intelligence and Powers? So many possibilities for kick ass rides and kick ass Lego sets (unfortunately at a price that kicks my wallets ass.) Nya also having Sora there is definitely helping distract her from Jay's absence. She still absolutely misses him, but having someone like herself around is definitely good for her.

Then, there's Lloyd and Arin. If these too match up just as well as the others, I'm quite scared about what Arin might have coming. The absolute amount of trauma that Lloyd went through throughout this entire thing is absolute absurd. And Arin is just finding out that Lloyd is the grandson of God himself. But I feel that Lloyd having a pupil is very good for him. He never got a childhood, literally having his child body taken from him by the aging potion, and he had to spend what short one he did fighting against the embodiment of evil inside of his father, multiple times. And if Arin is to follow in his footsteps, I don't even want to imagine what he's eventually going to have to go up against. Im hoping we can see some of father Lloyd peak through. Maybe him being the father and mentor he always wanted Garmadon to be but wasn't. And I wholeheartedly believe that Lloyd will be a good teacher. He doesn't have thousands of years of experience, but he's definitely been through the ringer. (And if Arin falls in love with a princess and Lloyd tries to talk him out of it I will lose my shit)

All of the ninja are now realizing just what Master Wu had to go through in order to train them all. They've learned and grown from his teaching tremendously yes, but now they're watching and teaching younger versions of themselves and relearning what they were like back then. I can't wait for the 6 million times Arin, Sora, or Wyldfyre make a mistake and say they don't deserve to be a ninja, and they all get to look at each other and laugh, and tell almost too many stories of all the times they've let the entire city get destroyed, died, been resurrected, destroyed realms, and all the fun quirky little traumatic world ending shit that they went through at their age. I'm glad that Dragons Rising still focusses on the ninja and they truly have just moved on to a different stage in their life by being teachers and mentors to the new generation, instead of just being cast aside as "Legends' and nothing more.

Just to give you all an update, since it's been a while since I've said anything about the upcoming "Which IDW character do you most want to see added to the mobile games?" tournament:

We have a name for "Cat guy" now - he's called Duo

Duo was the last name I needed to start this tournament

I'm currently wrapping up the Amy tournament over at @sonicshipbattles

After that, we only need one more character to start the @sonicuniversesmackdown tournament, which I believe we'll get in the next few days

So, I'll be concluding the Amy Ship Tournament and the Sonic Universe Smackdown first and then doing this tournament after those

Yes, that does also mean that @sonicshipbattles will go on a brief hiatus after the Amy tournament finishes. But I will definitely come back to do the promised Tails and Knuckles tournaments in future (potentially others, if I still have the steam for it)
