Demisexuality: Type of sexuality where a person experiences sexual attraction only after establishing a strong bond with someone. This strong bond can consist of either a romantic relationship or a strong friendship.

It is one of the many shades of asexuality. It lies in the middle between asexuality and allosexuality. It should not be confused with chastity or sexual abstinence, and therefore IT'S NOT A CHOICE.

A demisexual person can be gay, lesbian, straight, bi, etc. but many people struggle to understand this.

Months ago I was defined by a TERF as a "spicy straight woman who wants to pretend to be discriminated against" when she herself was discriminating against me and it is a fact that people on the asexual spectrum are discriminated against both inside and out the LGBTQIA+ community itself.

We exist, and we will not stand down.

to the non-aspec people who hc kaz as ace:

a lot of you guys seem to be under the impression that asexuality can be born from trauma. it cannot. in the same way that you cannot change being gay, straight, or bisexual, you cannot change whether or not you’re ace. yes, trauma can deter you from sex, but that’s not what asexuality is.

so what is it? what is asexuality?

asexuality is when someone experiences little to no sexual attraction for any gender. it’s a spectrum, so some asexual-spectrum (aspec) people such as myself CAN experience sexual attraction conditionally. for example, demisexual people (i.e. me) only experience sexual attraction with the constraint of emotional connection. aceflux people have fluctuating levels of sexual attraction, moving from one end of the spectrum to another. “plain” old ace people can be repulsed by sex, neutral, or positive. it’s varied! the point is… ace people can still have sex. not having sex does not make one ace, and having sex does not make one allo (the opposite of ace).

in summary, what have learned? well, asexuality CANNOT be born from trauma even if one is deterred from sex. ace people can have sex and asexuality is a spectrum.

we can’t change our sexualities. that’s okay.

I think one of the most insane things about being aro/ace is that because questioning amatonormativity is such a common part of this sexuality, I will happily read up on and accept ideas of relationship anarchy. Which makes the community that I’ve found most adjacent to the aro/ace community has been, of all people, the polyamorous crowd. At first glance you’d think we’d have nothing in common but oh my god polyamorous people are just the greatest. It’s like we’re on exact opposite ends of the same wavelength- same thesis, widely different conclusions
