yknow, given Nico’s old special interest in pirates, my new headcanon is that his initial plan after impulsively running away in TTC and becoming a rogue was that he decided he was just gonna become a pirate. cause he was 10 and just learned his other special interest (Mythology/Mythomagic, specifically Greco-Roman mythology) is real so it’s probably a logical leap for him to assume pirates like that are still a thing.

Which immediately makes a significantly more hilarious dynamic between him and Minos because suddenly it turns into Minos trying to manipulate this son of Hades into helping revive him but to do so he has to wrangle this 11 year old into stopping trying to run off and become a pirate, and instead convince him to live in some lame underground tunnel system. Just imagine for the first few months of Nico living on his own/training with Minos, every couple of days Nico goes “-AND NOW I WILL BECOME A PIRATE” and Minos has to steer him back into the Labyrinth.

i'll be honest, i haven't read toa (only short snippets when i want to see a specific scene), so i just read this article abt it, and it's frustrating that almost every example of diversity rick includes is riddled w harmful stereotypes. like, google is right there to help you avoid at least some! (psa to anyone else reading this, google "harmful [x] stereotypes" before making a character you're unfamiliar with!) the wwii stuff...rereading the series again like two years ago shocked me bc i had completely erased the entire plotline from my memory as a kid. some of these choices have me questioning the editors at the time, bc there were definitely things an editor should've pointed out if they were reading the full text.

your power! lmao but that behavior is exactly what makes it so difficult to give rick real feedback. i know some fans claim the older fandom is too cynical, but if we've been trying to give the same advice for years it's going to get old fast. every good change is accompanied by something else (especially noticeable in how percy is treated), so it always feels double-edged. but i'm glad you said this actually bc i didn't know he specified allo-ace! i had assumed he said aro-ace, but that actually makes the way ppl behave abt lesbians identifying w reyna more alarming...regardless i'm glad he's including ace rep bc it's rare, but the way reyna and the hunters were handled is...confusing at best.

please do share your thoughts about hazel's first week at camp jupiter + her relationship with jason i am v intrigued

thank you for this excuse to rant about them! this is a lot of speculation and headcanon on my part or at the very least stretching canon but here we go. hazel makes it clear in canon that she does not feel welcome at camp jupiter and felt intimidated when she joined. given that, i like analyzing her relationship with both jason and reyna because i think she likes them both but also has some internalized resentment towards them.

my evidence for this is mostly what hazel said to jason during their fight in mark of athena. her anger was justified but leo was the one to start that fight and she pretty much forgot him to rip into jason the second he opened his mouth. which leads me to think that, whether she realized it or not, she was waiting for jason to let her down in some way. she does not accept his apology later and holds a grudge into the next book. add that to the fact that the nicest thing she has to say about reyna in son of neptune is “she’s not so bad” (as opposed to her long dissertation on how hot and awesome hylla is) and i think hazel has a praetor problem! and it was mutual with reyna (reyna tells percy that she doesn’t trust hazel during their private talk). i have another post about this in the drafts but hazel's has some justified resentment towards authority, and jason and reyna both had tangible power over her at camp.

also i think that the period where jason and hazel met was during a formative moment for both of them: jason JUST fought a war and became praetor, hazel JUST came back from the dead. neither of them really want to be where they are or feel like they belong but both have to pretend they do. they both tend towards inertia towards their own detriment. both of them are getting a lot of attention, but jason's is because he's the new boy-king and hazel's is because she's so weird and out of place. neither of them are really doing well. this isn't the fresh start that they wanted. also worth noting is that hazel lies frequently but is bad at it whereas jason lies much less but is frequently assumed to be hiding something. i think both of them were kind of onto each other due to their similarities, and also a little suspicious of each other, thinking that there would be a catch.

that all being said, they did like each other! hazel might have been devastated when he vanished! he remembered her! so something happened in those couple weeks to form a real attachment. jason may well have been the only bright spot in hazel's first month there, because whatever he privately thought about her we know he would have treated her with kindness. but they've both changed too much during jason's disappearance and then nico is captured and they never reform whatever bond they had. the friendship that they had was unsustainable for pretty much all of the above reasons, and even when they met the wheels were already moving and it was already too late for both of them.

and on that note, while jason is hera's first move and the lynchpin, hazel is the prophecy harbinger, because she raised the first giant and because her resurrection is a sign that the giants have made their move and seized thanatos and the doors. her existence is owed to the second war starting. before her resurrection the prophecy of seven is impossible because there's only six living. she's the first omen of the new war and the final piece needed before hera can send jason away and kickstart the prophecy, so i think its neat that hazel and jason essentially brushed by each other right before things really got going.

#does hazel actually like these mfs (the romans)??? who's to say #she like jason and reyna. but also she doesn't.#but also she gets jason. but also she doesn't know him at all.#anyway stuff i also think but won't elaborate on bc the post was getting too long: 1. hazel would not want to be praetor #2. i WANT to consider them in the big 3 light but i don't know if roman characters care about that as a grouping #3. post-canon they should go clubbing together i think they would both benefit #jason #hazel #reyna #meta #asks

Trying to get through The Scarlet Letter, various Sherlock Holmes stories and my Illustrated Art History book. Also, an awful lot of fanfic.

What's something you're good/bad at?

I am a good listener. I am not very good at handling unwelcome affection or new situations that are just. A Lot.

Kind of feel the same about both (not very strongly). But they can be cute!

I took up pottering and made a vase! That was lovely, I quite miss it.

I'd like to write again some day. A fanfic, maybe - I haven't done that in years. And maybe a silly little story that is all mine. I would like to have some motivation to create again.

very scientific Argo 2 crew road trip seating arrangements:

Driving - Reyna. She’s the only one who a.) can drive and b.) can be trusted to drive. I’m pretty sure canonically the only other person on the Argo 2 with a drivers license is Percy.

Passenger’s seat - Frank. He’s helping navigate cause he’s the only person in the car who’s not adhd/dyslexic and also he needs the leg room cause he’s too tall.

Middle seats - Percy on passenger’s side and Piper on driver’s side window seats. Annabeth sitting in the middle. Annabeth’s helping navigate and the three of them are probably sharing snacks and napping on each other the entire ride. Piper also has easy access to mess with everyone sitting around her (Reyna, Annabeth, Jason, kind of also Leo).

Backseats - Jason on driver’s side, Hazel on passenger’s side, Leo in the middle. Leo gets too carsick to be in a window seat plus he’s the only person small enough to fit in that seat. Hazel is also probably a little motion sick and Jason’s mostly just making sure nobody in the back is dying. They’re all having A Time back there and occasionally passing snacks back to Nico and making sure he’s still alive every time the car goes over a bump.

Nico is in the trunk.

What would the seven wear? - Fashion Style analysis ( HOO Girls Ver.)

as a kid I used to want to be a fashion designer so making this post healed my inner child <3 enjoy ~

HAZEL LEVESQUE - okay okay omgg this girl would have the best fashion sense out of all of them (imo) because she is influenced by SO many fashion aesthetics, like her style would be vintage and modern at the same time! I feel like she would love long flowy dresses because it was the most common clothing women would wear in the 40's, she would love floral patterns sm because they are so cheery and it lightens her mood, this would bring out her "adorable" style more. also. JACKETS. this girl is OBESSED with jackets and cardigans, particularly in the colors brown and black. Overall her style is a mix of cheery, cute but she has that pluto edge to her style aswell with the jackets.

PIPER MCLEAN- honestly as much as she would hate to admit it, i feel like Piper would LOVE pink, pale pink takes up the majority of her palette. Her style is very youthful and it's a mix of rebel indie kid and soft coquette core. LOVES LOVES LOVES denim shorts, they are like a must in her wardrobe. Also, She loves jewelry, whether it be tassel earrings, beady bracelets and necklaces, rings etc. like she defo cares more about accessorizing than the actual clothing. she wears baggy white shirts a lot for some reason, but it suits her so well. Crop tops are a must, specifically pink or purple ones with a cute image on it, remember she wore a hello kitty crop top? yeah like that. I feel like her style is the most fresh and childlike without it being over the top, it is so cute. i love her style sm.

ANNABETH CHASE- Annabeth's style is super elegant tbh, she LOVES wearing grey, orange and white imo, also, i feel like she LOVES light blue/dark blue jeans. Ofc Annabeth loves caps, its like super dear to her, she doesn't have a specific "style" she just loves changing it a lot. Annabeth LOVES long dresses especially if they are white/warm brown.
