CASE DIGEST: Liyao Vs Tanhoti-Liyao, et.al
Liyao Vs Tanhoti-Liyao, et.al
G.R. No. 138961| March 07, 2002
Justice De Leon Jr.
Family Code:
Art. 171. The heirs of the husband may impugn the filiation of the child within the period prescribed in the preceding article only in the following cases:
(1) If the husband should died before the expiration of the period fixed for bringing his action;
(2) If he should die after the filing of the complaint without having desisted therefrom; or
(3) If the child was born after the death of the husband. (262a)
Art. 172. The filiation of legitimate children is established by any of the following:
(1) The record of birth appearing in the civil register or a final judgment; or
(2) An admission of legitimate filiation in a public document or a private handwritten instrument and signed by the parent concerned.
In the absence of the foregoing evidence, the legitimate filiation shall be roved by:
(1) The open and continuous possession of the status of a legitimate child; or
(2) Any other means allowed by the Rules of Court and special laws. (265a, 266a, 267a)
CASE DIGEST
Facts:
William Liyao Jr., the illegitimate son of the deceased, as represented by her mother (Corazon), filed a petition ordering Juanita Tanhoti-Liyao, Pearl L. Tan, Tita L. Tan and Linda Liyao to recognize andacknowledge the former as a compulsory heir of the deceased and to be entitled to all successionalrights. Liyao Jr. was in continuous possession and enjoyment of the status as the child of the deceasedhaving been recognized and acknowledged as such child by the decedent during his lifetime. There weretwo sides of the story. Corazon maintained that she and the deceased were legally married but livingseparately for more than 10 years and that they cohabited from 1965 until the death of the deceased. Onthe other hand, one of the chidren of the deceased stated that her mom and the deceased were legallymarried and that her parents were not separated legally or in fact.
Issue/s:
Whether or not may the petitioner impugn his own legitimacy to be able to claim from the estate of his supposed father, William Liyao?
Ruling:
No. The fact that Corazon Garcia had been living separately from her husband, Ramon Yulo, at the time petitioner was conceived and born is of no moment. While physical impossibility for the husband to have sexual intercourse with his wife is one of the grounds for impugning the legitimacy of the child, it bears emphasis that the grounds for impugning the legitimacy of the child mentioned in Article 255 of the Civil Code may only be invoked by the husband, or in proper cases, his heirs under the conditions set forth under Article 262 of the Civil Code. Impugning the legitimacy of the child is a strictly personal right of the husband, or in exceptional cases, his heirs for the simple reason that he is the one directly confronted with the scandal and ridicule which the infidelity of his wife produces and he should be the one to decide whether to conceal that infidelity or expose it in view of the moral and economic interest involved. It is only in exceptional cases that his heirs are allowed to contest such legitimacy. Outside of these cases, none—even his heirs—can impugn legitimacy; that would amount to an insult to his memory.

Greetings in the matchless Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Topic: VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 08): The Message to Laodicea: The Church That is Affluent, But Lukewarm & Half-Committed!
Rhema Word: Revelation 3:15-16 (NKJV) “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”
Let’s pray. Our Gracious Loving Father, thank You for giving us an opportunity to meditate Your Word today along with Your children who have been called to live a holy life, Father. I commit everyone who are all meditating this message into Your mighty hand Father. Bless them and give them the oneness of Spirit and make their heart as a good land to receive each and every Word which is living and active Father. Thank You Holy Spirit for helping us to understand the in-depth treasure of Your Word and helping us to live a life as per Your Word Lord. We give all the Glory and Honour to You only Father. We pray in the mighty Name of Your beloved Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
The passage in Revelation 1:9-3:22 explains the first vision that Christ gives John. It is a vision of Christ Himself of Christ in His glory and exaltation. It is in this vision that the glorified Christ proclaims His message to the seven churches. But before He speaks to the churches, Christ gives John a glimpse of Himself. Christ wants believers down through the centuries to know who it is that has given these messages to the churches. Christ wants all believers to know that the message to the churches is coming from the Supreme Majesty of the universe, from One who must be heeded, from One who possesses all power and knowledge, from One who can provide and protect, assure and secure, judge and destroy. This is the vision of the Author of Revelation, of the One who has given us this awesome message of Revelation. This is the vision of the Son of Man, the glorified Christ Himself.
We have been meditating the following in Eight Parts since last seven weeks.
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 01): The Son of Man, the Glorified Christ!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 02): The Message to Ephesus: The Orthodox Church, But a Church Without Love!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 03): The Message to Smyrna: The Persecuted Church!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 04): The Message to Pergamum: The Corrupted Church That is Married to the World!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 05): The Message to Thyatira: The Compromising or Permissive Church!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 06): The Message to Sardis: The Church with Reputation, But Dying!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 07): The Message to Philadelphia: The Church That is Faithful & Alive!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 08): The Message to Laodicea: The Church That is Affluent, But Lukewarm & Half-Committed!
We have meditated the First to Seventh Parts in last seven weeks. Let us try to meditate the Eighth Part VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 08): The Message to Laodicea: The Church That is Affluent, But Lukewarm & Half-Committed! and understand the following today, with the help of Holy Spirit:
(1) The Recipients:
(2) The Speaker – Jesus Christ:
(3) The Complaint: The church is neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm:
(4) The Warning: Will be spit out:
(5) The Counsel:
(6) The Promise: To the Overcomers:
This is the last church addressed by Christ, and it is the worst church. Christ does not commend Laodicea at all. This is the one church about which He has nothing good to say. Imagine a church that they may as well not exist – a church that has no good within its body whatsoever – a church that does no good at all. What was it that made the church so bad? So useless and worthless? Lukewarmness, which means that the church was indifferent, complacent, lethargic, self-satisfied, half-hearted, and neutral. The church and its believers were only half-way committed to Christ, only half-hearted in their worship and service for Him. Image! To Christ there is no good whatsoever in a lukewarm, half-committed believer, and most church members are lukewarm! There are few who are really hot, that is, really committed. Hence, this is a critical message that must be heeded by all churches and believers. We must study what Christ says to this church and heed His warning and counsel.
(1) The Recipients:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things say the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God.”
There are the recipients. Christ sends the message to the minister, for he is the one who is ultimately responsible for the state of the church. Christ expects the minister to be the first to heed the warning against lukewarmness and half-hearted commitment. Then Christ expects the minister to take the message of the Lord to the church and declare His warning to its believers. The point to see is this: the minister is held accountable by Christ for the indifference and complacency of the believers. He expects the minister to arouse himself and repent, and to arouse the believers and lead them to repentance and whole-hearted commitment.
Brief About Laodicea City: There is only one historical fact that seems to have a bearing upon the letter. Laodicea was the chief city of Phrygia – an extremely wealthy and prosperous city. It lays astride three of the most important highways of its day. It was a city of enormous wealth. The city had three particular claims to fame. It was (a) a financial and banking center; (b) a clothing manufacturing center; and (c) the location of a famous medical school renown for the eye salve which is produced.
Perhaps the condition of the church in v.17 – “poor, blind, and naked” – had reference to these three industries.
Paul prayed for the Laodicean church (Colossians 2:1-2) and wrote a letter to them (Colossians 2:1; 4:12-16). Archippus is said to have been the first Bishop (pastor) of the church. This seems to have some significance for what Christ says to the church, for Laodicea is a church that Christ does not commend. He has nothing good to say about the church. In writing Colossians, Paul exhorts Archippus, Laodicea’s pastor in Colossians 4:16-17 “Now when this epistle is read among you, see that it is read also in the church of the Laodiceans, and that you likewise read the epistle from Laodicea. And say to Archippus, “Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it”. The corruption and degeneration could have begun under his ministry.”
(2) The Speaker – Jesus Christ:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things say the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God.”
There is the speaker, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Note how Christ describes Himself to the lukewarm and half-committed church and believer.
(i) Jesus Christ is the “Amen”. This is a title that Christ says belongs to Him. The term “Amen” is used to close prayer or to declare the truthfulness of some statements. It is a term that declares and guarantees the truth. Therefore, Jesus Christ is the Amen, the declaration, the guarantee of the truth. What He says is totally true and trustworthy. This means two things to a lukewarm church:
(a) The lukewarm church can trust the promise of Christ. He will meet the needs of any church that will repent and turn from its lukewarmness and wholly commit its life to Christ.
(b) The lukewarm church had better heed the warning of Christ. He is the Amen; His words of judgement will be carried out. The lukewarm church and believer will face the terrible judgement of Christ, face it just like He has pronounced it in His Word. His Word is true, completely guaranteed. What He has said will be. His pronouncement of judgement will come to pass – unquestionably. The church that ignores or neglects His Word does so at its own peril and loss.
The Bible says in John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 14:6; 18:37(b) “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” … “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause, I was born, and for this cause, I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
(ii) Jesus Christ is the “faithful and true witness”. Jesus Christ is faithful to God the Father and He bears a true witness to God the Father.
(a) Jesus Christ is perfectly honest. He has not told a single lie or untruth.
(b) Jesus Christ is also completely honest. He holds nothing back about the truth. He does not keep us wondering or questioning in seeking after and in knowing God. He has not kept a single thing from us that God wanted us to know about Himself.
But note: Jesus Christ is the faithful and true witness; He is just what the church is not. The church is lukewarm. It only tells part of the truth, only bears part of the witness. It is only half-faithful to Christ and God. What the lukewarm church needs to get a renewed sight of Christ. They need to refocus their attention upon Jesus Christ; the only way they will ever see God is to hear the witness of Jesus Christ, the witness of Him who is faithful and true. If the church is looking at other witnesses – depending upon the rituals of baptism, church membership, ordinances, services, ceremonies, fellowship and worship attendance to make them acceptable to God – they the church is missing the faithful and true witness of God. It is missing Christ, and to miss Christ is to doom oneself.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 3:11; 32; 8:14 “Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.” … “And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony.” … “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.”
The Bible says in Revelation 1:5 “And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.”
(iii) Jesus Christ is the “ruler of God’s creation”. Jesus Christ is the great Creator of the universe, the Maker and Sustainer of the universe and all that is therein. Therefore, He is the source of all – all good things, all real wealth and satisfaction, all purpose, meaning, and significance in life, all love, joy and peace that a person experiences. Therefore, the church must not depend upon its prosperity: its rituals, ability, energy, wealth, and resources. Its only hope for life is to trust Him who is the beginning of creation, Him who alone can give the church life both abundant and eternal life. Therefore, no matter how prosperous the church, it is not the creator nor the sustainer. Christ alone creates and sustains. The church’s wealth and prosperity are meaningless and useless apart from being absolutely centered in Jesus Christ.
The Bible says in John 1:3 “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 5:25; 10:10 “Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.” … “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
(3) The Complaint: The church is neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.”
There is the complaint. The complaint is shocking, for it unquestionably describes most church members. What is the complaint? Lukewarmness. Note exactly what Christ says: the church and its members were “neither cold nor hot”. This means (a) they were only lukewarm, only half-committed, only half-hearted; (b) they were complacent, lethargic, self-satisfied; and (c) they were indifferent and neutral.
As stated, note how this so clearly describes so many church members. This is serious, ever critical, for the judgement that Christ pronounces upon the lukewarm church and believer is terrible.
(i) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to Christ. In addition to stressing Christ, it stresses ritual, ceremony, and programs as a way to become acceptable and to please God.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Luke 9:23 “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
(ii) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to proclaiming that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Apostle John says in 1 John 2:22-23; 4:1-3 “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” … “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.”
(iii) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to teaching the Word of God.
Apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 3:16; 4:2-4 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” … “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap-up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”
(iv) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to evangelism and missions.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” … “And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” … “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
(v) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to stressing holy and pure living for Christ.
Apostle Peter says in 1 Peter 1:15-16; 22 “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” … “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart.”
(vi) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to self-denial and sacrificial living, to stressing that its people must deny themselves and sacrificially die to self. They seldom stress that total sacrifice is demanded, that a person must give all he is and has to reach the lost and meet the desperate needs of the world.
Our Lord said in Matthew 19:21; Luke 5:27-28; 9:23; 14:33 “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” … “After these things He went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So, he left all, rose up, and followed Him.” … “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” … “So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”
(vii) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to the church.
The Bible says in Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
(viii) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to attending and staying awake and learning in the services of the church.
The Bible says in Acts 17:11 “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”
(ix) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to supporting the church.
Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 16:2; 2 Corinthians 9:7 “On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.” … “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”
(x) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to witnessing.
Apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 1:8; 2:2 “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God.” … “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”
(xi) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to Bible study and prayer.
Apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
(xii) A lukewarm church is only half-committed to daily devotions.
Apostle Paul says in Romans 15:4 “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”
The list could go on and on, but the terrible reality of lukewarmness is clearly seen. It is frightening, for lukewarmness is seen in so many churches and members.
Note what Jesus Christ says: it is better for one to be cold than lukewarm. This is utterly shocking: Christ Himself says that it is better for a person to have no commitment whatsoever to Christ than for him to be lukewarm. Why? How could this be? Because a lukewarm person does not know that he needs clothing or heat. A cold person knows he needs clothing and heat. A person must be sensitive to his need before his need can be met.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 9:41 “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore, your sin remains.”
Most people who profess Christ attend church only enough to salve their consciences, only enough to make them feel acceptable to God. Most people feel that God would never reject them, not in the final analysis. Most believe that God will eventually accept them into whatever kind of heaven exists in the next world. But Christ completely contradicts this. He says that all these – all the lukewarm and half-committed church members in the world – would be fat better off if they made no profession at all. Being self-satisfied; feeling comfortably and respectable in one’s religion, is the worst state imaginable for a person. He is the hardest person of all to arouse and set aflame for Christ. Yet, tragically this is the state of so many, the state of half-hearted commitment to Jesus Christ, the state of comfort, complacency, lethargy, indifference, and sefl-sufficiency.
(4) The Warning: Will be spit out:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:16-17 “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.”
There is the warning. Jesus Christ warns the lukewarm and half-committed person: “I will vomit you out of My mouth”. This is graphic language, but it is used for a purpose. The person who claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ is claiming to be a part of His body, claiming to be nourishment for His body, a part of the growth of His body. But when the person is lukewarm, he is none of this. He is like lukewarm food, unappetizing and unwanted. Christ does not want the nourishment that such food provides. It is not fit to help in the nourishment and growth of His body. Therefore, He rejects all who are lukewarm and half-committed. There are two reasons why He rejects them.
(i) The lukewarm make a false profession (v.17). Note the verse: the church felt that it was rich and prosperous and had need of nothing. As stated above, the city was extremely wealthy, and practically everyone but the slaves shared in the wealth. We can tell by the very charge of Christ against the church that the believers were financially wealthy. What happened to the church is what so often happens among believers. They equated wealth and prosperity with spirituality. They felt that they had been especially blessed by God because they had been blessed with material possessions and wealth. They became self-sufficient; independent; self-centred; prideful; conceited ad boastful.
They carried their wealth over into their spiritual life; they confused prosperity and material blessings with spirituality and spiritual blessings. They were able to have a full staff of ministers and to have all the ministries. They were able to launch any program, to promote any activity, and to do anything the minister or church felt should be done.
Yes, they focussed upon their capability instead of Christ; they depended upon their ability instead of Christ; and they relied upon their resources instead of Christ.
Worship, Bible study, prayer, missions, witnessing and activities – all were done as a matter of form and as a part of the normal activity of the church. There was no hunger or thirst after God, no sense of a deep-seated need, no desire for God’s Word, no burden for the lost, no sense of needing to grow spiritually. Simply speaking, the church was self-sufficient and comfortable. It had the money and the members to operate and work the ministries of the church; and many of the members, being industrious business and management people, had the energy and ability. Therefore, the members operated ad carried on the activities of the church, but it was all done in the energy of the flesh and of self. It was NOT done in the power of God’s Spirit.
Apostle Paul says in Romans 12:16; 1 Corinthians 10:12; 2 Corinthians 10:12 “Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.” … “Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” … “For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”
(ii) The lukewarm are rejected because of their true condition: they are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. What does this mean? All of these refer to the spiritual life of the church and its believers.
(a) The church was spiritually “wretched” (hotalaiporos). The word actually says the “wretched one” in the Greek. The church had its full staff and all the programs – so much so that it felt it needed nothing. But the church was really the wretched one. The word means to be afflicted spiritually; to be spiritually contemptible; to the spiritually inferior. In God’s eyes, they were spiritually lacking, very much so – so much so that they were afflicted, contemptible and inferior.
Apostle Paul says in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
(b) The church was spiritually “pitiful” (eleeinos). The word means pitied, despicable. The believers felt self-sufficient and were carrying on all the works of the church, but they were doing it in their own strength. They were missing out on the greatest thing in all the world: the presence of Christ and the power of Christ. They were missing out on experiencing the power of Christ working in their lives and in the church. They were to be pitied. In God’s eyes they were despicable, for they were ignoring and neglecting His Son.
Apostle John says in 1 John 1:6,8,10 “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” … “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” … “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
Prophet Isaiah says in Isaiah 64:6 “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
(c) The church was spiritually “poor” (ptochos). They felt rich and in need of nothing, but in truth they were as spiritually poor as a church and person can be.
Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 2:12; 1 Timothy 6:5 “That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.” … “Useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.”
(d) The church was spiritually “blind” (tophlos). They could see only what was in the world: money and human ability and effort. They did not look beyond to the spiritual need of the human soul nor to the possibility of spiritual and supernatural power working within the church and the lives of people.
Our Lord Jesus Christ says in Matthew 6:23 “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
(e) The church was spiritually “naked” (gumnos). They failed to see their need for the righteousness of Jesus Christ, for the clothing of Christ’s righteousness. They believed they could be good enough and do enough good to become acceptable to God on their own. They felt their religious works and gifts to the church would secure God’s approval. They did little thinking about their need for the righteousness of Christ and about the death of Jesus Christ for their sins.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 22:11-13 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So, he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Lesson: Note that many lukewarm and half-committed persons never witness for Christ. They say that they do not witness for Christ (a) because they want to be kind and not offend people; (b) because they are too meek and shy and (c) because there is a place for professing Christ (the church) and a place for the affairs of this world.
But note a lukewarm commitment to Christ is nauseating to Him. He will reject all of the lukewarm and half-committed.
(5) The Counsel:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:18-20 “I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore, be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”
There is the counsel. Christ advises the church to do three things:
(i) Christ counsels them to buy spiritual gold, spiritual clothing, and spiritual eye salve. What do each of these means? Note what each says:
(a) The church needed to buy spiritual gold that is purified in the fire. Remember the city of Laodicea was a banking center and a manufacturing center, extremely wealthy Christ is teaching the church this: their wealth is not true wealth. What they need is spiritual gold, spiritual wealth. Why? So that they can be truly rich. God represents spiritual riches – all the richness and inheritance offered by Christ – all the spiritual things that make life rich and overflowing love, joy, peace, goodness, faith, assurance, confidence, security, hope. It is possessing all the abundance of life. Note that material possessions and wealth cannot give these things. Earthly riches cannot buy love, joy, peace, or happiness. Riches cannot keep a person healthy nor keep him alive nor erase emptiness and loneliness. This should tell man something, but so many are so blinded by worldly wealth and possessions that they ignore it: man’s great need is for spiritual gold. Above all else, we need the riches of the Spirit. Spiritual gold is the only thing that can satisfy our souls. Note where spiritual treasures are found? Spiritual treasures are found in Christ. If we are to be spiritually wealthy, we have to come to Christ and secure the wealth He has.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 6:20, 12:33; 19:21 “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.” … “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.” … “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
Apostle Paul says in Galatians 5:22-23; Philippians 3:8; 1 Timothy 6:19 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” … “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.” … “Storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”
(b) The church needed to buy white clothing. Remember the city was a clothing center, a large textile and manufacturing center. Christ is telling them this: no matter how much clothing they manufacture, they lack the real clothing. What the church needs is spiritual clothing. Why? So that the shame of their spiritual nakedness will not be exposed. This refers to the righteousness of Christ, the pure righteousness of Christ that makes a person acceptable to God. A person must be clothed in the righteousness of God; he must put on the righteousness of Christ. God does not accept a person because he (a) is religious; (b) has been baptized; (c) belongs to the church; (d) attends worship; (e) does religious works; (f) professes Christ; (g) does good; and (h) gives generously.
There is only one way that a person can be acceptable to God: by being clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Christ and Christ alone is sinless. He alone is the Perfect and Ideal Man. He and He alone has made the perfect sacrifice for sins. Therefore, Jesus Christ alone is acceptable to God. If a person is to ever be acceptable to God, he has to be clothed in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. As the Perfect and Ideal Man, the righteousness of Jesus Christ can stand for and cover all men. Therefore, when a person really believes and trusts in the righteousness of Jesus Christ, God counts that person’s belief as righteousness. God counts that person as being in Christ, as being in the righteousness of Christ.
Note: If a person is not in Christ, if he has not been clothed in the righteousness of Christ, then he shall appear naked in the great day of judgement. He shall be ashamed before God and rejected by God.
This is the great counsel, the great advice of the Lord Jesus Christ, His great message to the lukewarm and half-committed church and believers: “Buy of Me the white clothing of My righteousness. Putting on My clothing, My righteousness, is the only way you can ever be acceptable to God”.
Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, 21 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” … “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
(c) The church needed to buy eye salve. Remember the city was well known for its medical school that concentrated on treating the eyes with a famous eye salve. Christ is telling them that no matter how much they treat their eyes, they are still blind and in the dark. Why? Because they do not spiritually see the Light of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. They see only themselves (a) their prosperous life and blessings; (b) their good behaviour; (c) their good works; (d) their abilities; (e) their wisdom; (f) their religious gifts and (g) their prosperous church.
They saw little if any of Christ Himself. They did not see their need for Him, nor did they see what His presence and power could do for them and their church. They were blinded to their own need and to Christ and the great difference He could make in life. The eye salve means the God-given ability to see spiritual truth. They needed to depend upon Christ to vie them the ability to see the light of the world.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 8:12; 12:35 “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” … “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.”
Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:14-15; 2 Corinthians 4:6; Philippians 2:15 “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.” … “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” … “That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”
(ii) Christ counsels them to be earnest and to repent. Note what Christ says: He loves them. They are lukewarm and indifferent to Him, only half-committed to Him, but He still loves them. The word used for love (philo) means a dear love, a tender, fatherly love. This is the reason He rebukes and chastens the lukewarm and half-committed person. It is not out of anger that Christ tells people they are doing wrong, sinning, coming short, and are doomed. He tells them out of love. They must know they are doing wrong in order to correct their behaviour. They must know that judgement lies ahead so that they will do whatever is needed to save themselves. The Lord’s rebuke and chastening hand is for one purpose only: Christ loves them and wants them to see their wrong, correct their behaviour, and change their lives. He wants people to possess the fullness of life and the hope of eternal life.
Note: the matter is so critical that Christ exhorts them to be earnest in repenting. The word earnest means to boil and burn with zeal, sincerity, and earnestness in repenting. It means to burn a path to repent; to get to the matter of repenting immediately. Being lukewarm and half-committed to Christ is so serious a matter that a person must repent immediately. A person cannot afford one minute more before repenting. He is bordering on being spit out of the mouth of Christ (v.16).
(iii) Christ counsels the to open the door of their heart and to let Him in. This is one of the most beautiful and meaningful pictures of Christ in all of Scripture. At least five scenes are being pictured:
(a) There is the standing Christ. He stands at the door. This symbolizes His readiness to enter the life of a person. He is the One who takes the initiative to save man. Jesus is the One who has walked over and come to man. Man has not come to Him. He is the One who has approached man. Man has not approached Him.
Jesus Christ stands before the heart of man as the Saviour of the world, as loving man so much that He has come into the world to save man. He is the One who has travelled such a great distance from the majesty of heaven down to man’s heart.
Psalmist says in Psalm 34:18; 145:18 “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” … “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.”
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 6:33,38,50-51; John 8:42 “For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” … “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” … “This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” … “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.”
(b) There is the knocking Christ. He stands at the door and knocks. This symbolizes the seeking Christ. Christ has not only come to earth and walked over to man’s heart. He knocks and knocks at the door of man’s heart and He refuses to give up. He keeps on knocking and knocking for man to open up and let Him in. Christ knocks so much that a person has to either open up or deaden his ears to the knock.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:12; Luke 15:8,19:10 “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?” … “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it?” … “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
(c) There is the pleading Christ. He pleads for entrance. This symbolizes the compassion of Christ. He not only knocks, but He pleads and begs for man to open His heart. He is merciful and full of compassion. He knows what life should be, for He created life. Therefore, He knows that Life must be lived in wholehearted commitment to righteousness or else it is wasted and doomed. He longs for man to have real life, abundant and eternal life. Therefore, He knocks and keeps on knocking at the door of a man’s heart, and while He is knocking. He pleads and begs for the man to hear Him.
Lesson: How often people hear the voice of Christ yet they refuse to let Him in! They hear His voice when they hear the Word of God preached and taught or witnessed to by a dynamic minister or some believer or form some tract or Bible literature. But they hardened their ears and pay no attention to the pleading of the Lord’s voice.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 11:28; 22:3-4; 23:37; John 5:24 “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”… “And sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.” … “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” … “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
(d) There is the penetrating Christ. This is the most glorious promise imaginable! Imagine the Spirit of Jesus Christ living within the heart and life and body of a person. When a person hears His voice and opens his heart, Christ enters; He penetrates the life of the person. This symbolizes the life changing presence and power of the living Christ. When He enters and penetrates a person’s life, He causes the most radical changes imaginable.
(A) Christ causes the person to be born again. He said in John 3:3-5 “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”
(B) Christ makes a new creation out of the person. Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
(C) Christ makes a new person, a new self out of the person. Apostle Paul says in Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:10 “And that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” … “And have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.”
(D) Christ changes the person’s perishable nature into an imperishable nature. Apostle Peter says in 1 Peter 1:23 “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.”
(E) Christ gives the person a new divine nature, the very nature of God Himself. Apostle Peter says in 2 Peter 1:4 “By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
(e) There is the companion Christ. This symbolizes fellowship. When Jesus Christ enters and penetrates a person’s heart, He lives forever within the life of the person. He is always present with the person (a) looking after and caring for him; (b) talking and sharing with him; (c) leading and guiding him; (d) strengthening and empowering him; (e) providing for and meeting his needs; (f) maneuvering and working all things out for good for him; and (g) furnishing and filling him with love, joy, and peace.
When Jesus Christ enters a life there is no good thing whatsoever that is kept from the person. He has the richest fellowship possible, fellowship and communion with the Son of God Himself. And the person has it forever and ever.
Our Lord Jesus Christ prayed in John 17:23 “I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”
Apostle Paul says in Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 3:17-19 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” … “That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
(6) The Promise: To the Overcomers:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:21-22 “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
There is the promise to the overcomers. The promise is glorious! The overcomer shall sit upon the throne of Christ and of God. The person who overcomes the lukewarmness and half-hearted commitment to Christ, who repents and turns his life over to Christ, shall sit upon the throne of Christ and of God. What does this mean?
(a) That we shall rule and reign with Christ forever and ever.
(b) That we shall be assigned certain duties in the new heavers and earth, given the responsibility to oversee and manage the universe for Christ (Matthew 25:21-23; Lue 19:17,19).
(c) That we shall rule and oversee the work and duties of angels (1 Corinthians 6:2-3).
It means that we shall rule as kings with Christ throughout the whole universe and for all of eternity.
Let us introspect ourselves.
Are we half-faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ and God?
Shall we trust the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ, heed the warning, repent and turn from lukewarmness and commit ourselves wholly to Him?
Shall we refocus our attention upon our Lord Jesus Christ instead of the rituals of baptism, church membership, ordinances, services, ceremonies, fellowship and worship attendance?
Shall we understand the fact that the only hope for life is to trust our Lord Jesus Christ who is the beginning of creation, Him who alone can give us life both abundant and eternal life?
Shall we introspect ourselves whether we are neither cold nor hot – only lukewarm, half-committed, half-hearted, complacent, lethargic, self-satisfied and indifferent?
Are we equating our wealth and prosperity with our spirituality and confusing prosperity and material blessings with spirituality and spiritual blessings?
Shall we check our spiritual life whether it is still wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked?
Are we witnessing for our Lord Jesus Christ whole heartedly?
Shall we earnestly heed to the counsel of our Lord Jesus Christ and repent?
Shall we open the door of our hearts to our Lord Jesus Christ as He stands at the door and knocks?
Shall we open the door of our hearts to our Lord Jesus Christ as He pleads for entrance?
Are we still refusing to let Jesus in our hearts in spite of hearing His voice?
Shall we allow our Lord Jesus Christ to enter into our hearts so that He can make us born again, new creation, new person and very nature of God Himself besides having fellowship with Him by sitting upon the throne of Christ and rule and reign as kings with HIM forever and ever?
Let us Pray: Our Heavenly Gracious Father, we thank You for helping us to understand about “The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 08): The Message to Laodicea: The Church That is Affluent, But Lukewarm & Half-Committed, today, Father. Transcript: Today's question is: Sergio, my spouse and I are interested in having some type of legal separation. How do we go about doing that in the state of Florida?
Well, in short, Florida recognizes where one has a legal marriage and Florida law recognizes where one has a legal divorce. But what about this gray area in between?
Well, Florida law doesn't really recognize what may be referred to in some places as a legal separation.
Of course, from a practical standpoint, it's very common for married couples to end up separating before a divorce is ever finalized.
For example, they may decide to sleep in separate beds, or separate bedrooms, they may even decide to live apart completely.
Often, they separate the marital assets and the marital debts, and they each go about living their own separate lives.
Now, there are many reasons why a couple choose to separate without getting a divorce. For example, they may want to stay married for... religious reasons, immigration requirements, financial or medical reasons, or for their children, and the list goes on.
If you find yourself in this situation, consider entering into what's called a postnuptial agreement.
A postnuptial agreement is basically a contract between spouses that outlines the ownership of financial assets in the event of a divorce.
It's kind of like a contract that stipulates who gets what during their separation. So, we can use a postnuptial agreement to acknowledge that the parties have agreed to, number 1: a separation as of a certain firm date. Number 2: it also delineates the separation of assets and debts as of that date. And number 3: it establishes that any assets and debts or income that's generated thereafter will be considered separate and non-marital.
This allows for the parties to acquire assets, debts, and incomes during their separation, without worrying about the other spouse getting involved in this financial transactions whether they wanted it or not.
When one or both spouses decide to move forward with a divorce, the spouses have the ability to enforce the terms and conditions of the postnuptial agreement, that already acknowledges a separation, as well as a separation of assets and debts.
This allows for a quicker easier and less expensive divorce.

Miracles -- Part 3
07/04/2021: Here it is!! The one, the only, the... 6.1k words of purely self indulgent protective!Jacob (lowkey been doing it for everyone and their mother except for when with the reader and idk why bc i dig that shit too)
I really hope you guys enjoy this, because I loved writing it!! There's a chance I could sneak in a last chapter if people wanted that? Feedback would be greatly appreciated!! This is super long, so sit down and get comfy :)
Pry these commas from my cold, dead hands tho. Also, I HC Jacob to be predominantly left-handed, but that's just me aha.
Warnings: Bit of violence, swearing, corporal punishment, arson (without giving too much away)

The night was cold.
You retreated further under the blankets, turning to rest your head on your beloved’s chest. You wore an oversized shirt, and he wore a loose pair of breeches. His arm pulled you closer, fingers stroking your bicep. In turn, you traced the Rook painted on his chest. “Jacob?”
He turned to gaze down at you, lips inches from your forehead. “Yes, my love?”
“My family have written to me; they would like me to visit them in Warwick.”
“Your family lives quite far,” Jacob remarked, smiling adoringly at you. “Will you and Lily be alright travelling by yourselves?”
You sighed. “That’s the problem.” Sitting up, you gently grasped Jacob’s hand, playing with his fingers. “They don’t know that Lily exists, and I have no chance of telling them that I have a child without the status of ‘wife’.”
“I see…” Jacob watched you trace the lines on his hand. “Is there anything I can do?”
Propose, you idiot.
“Could you look after Lily while I’m away?”
“On my own?” His fingers tightened around yours.
“I trust you with her, Jacob. You’re the only one I can trust her with.”
He sucked in a breath. “Are you sure?”
“Stop doubting yourself.” You kissed his temple. “Besides, she adores you; she’ll listen to you.”
“Alright then. It’s decided.”
“Thank you, my love. However can I make it up to you?”
Sensing the humour in your tone, Jacob winked. “I can think of a few things.”
You laughed to yourself as you blew out your candle, the darkness enveloping the room as you pulled yourself closer to Jacob, the security of his arms lulling you to sleep.
----------
Before you knew it, you were packing a carriage with your luggage, setting off for the journey ahead. Jacob was standing in the doorway of your house, Lily resting on his hip. “Mama, do you have to go?”
“Sweetheart, if I don’t, then horrible Aunt Susan will come marching all the way down here herself, and we don’t want that, do we?” Lily shook her head, giggling.
“She’s not the only one who’s going to miss you.” Jacob wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you into his side. Smiling, he dipped his head to lock his lips with yours.
“Yuck!”
The both of you pulled apart, chuckling.
“Well, I best be going. Don’t get into any trouble; I know what you both are like unsupervised.”
Sharing mischievous looks, they began to wave as you got into the carriage.
“Bye, Mama!”
“Safe travels, my love!”
You watched as they recede from view, the picture of your perfect family playing in your mind as hooves against cobblestone played in your ears.
As soon as the carriage turned the corner, Jacob turned to Lily. “What do you fancy doing?”
Lily giggled. “I have school!”
Jacob mockingly rolled his eyes. “That is the worst answer I’ve ever heard.”
“Are you saying I can skip?”
As much as he’d want to say yes, you would have punted him six ways from Sunday. “‘fraid not, love.” He took her inside. “But I can promise that afterwards, I’ll take you to get iced cream.” Lily cheered in victory before she hopped down, scurrying to collect her things for the day ahead.
----------
Jacob walked Lily to school that morning, keeping her on his left and away from the curb. He grasped her hand firmly, lest she get lost in the rushing crowd. When he approached the building, he saw various parents saying goodbye to their children, as well as some children arriving on their own.
He knelt down to her height, tidying her windswept appearance with a reassuring grin. “You have a good day, alright?”
Smiling widely, she nodded, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Thank you, Papa.”
Wait, what?
Jacob’s breath caught in his throat. Lost for words, he kissed her head and returned the hug tenfold. “I love you, angel.”
“Love you too!”
The bell rang moments after, causing Lily to pull away. “Don’t be late!” Waving, she ran to catch up with her friends and disappeared into the building. Standing up, Jacob cleared his throat and tugged on his waistcoat to compose himself, though he could barely stifle his grin. The warmth in his heart engulfed his chest. He walked past the rest of the parents as if he were walking on clouds, his happiness fixed for the day.
----------
“What’s got you in such a good mood today?” Evie asked her brother, watching incredulously as she found him tidying his train carriage.
“Oh, nothing.” Although his tone was dismissive, his face told a completely different story.
“Did you… have a good night?”
“Oh, no.” Chuckling, he sifted through the papers on his desk. “Y/N’s headed to Warwick.”
Puzzled, Evie tilted her head. “Free beer?”
“Nope.” He popped the ‘P’.
“Come on, then; what is it? You can’t expect me to keep guessing forever.”
Restraining himself from jumping for joy, he turned to his sister. “Lily called me ‘Papa’.”
Evie’s face lit up. “Oh, Jacob, that’s lovely! Does this mean you’ll…” She mimicked opening a ring box.
Blushing, he nodded, a toothy grin plastered on his face. “I’m excited, Evie. I… I need to sit down.”
He leaned back on the sofa, tossing his hat beside him. Running a hand through his hair, he sighed. “Are you alright?” Evie took a chair to sit opposite him.
“I… I’ve never felt this much joy in my life.”
“Jacob Frye, you’re practically speechless.”
“Don’t get used to it.”
“You have to buy the rings before Y/N comes back.”
“I will. Maybe Lily will want to come with me. Not yet, though; I don’t want to spring the news on her immediately.”
Evie began to talk about the type of engagement ring you would find the most appealing, but Jacob had all but zoned out. He was fidgeting with the iron band on his right index finger, engraved on the inside with the Assassin’s Insignia. Barely thinking, he removed it and switched hands, sliding it on his ring finger.
He was going to get married. You were going to be his wife.
“What if she doesn’t say ‘yes’?” A sudden anxiety clutched his heart as he looked up in worry.
Evie was stunned into silence. “What are you talking about?! Of course she’s going to say yes!”
“She has a child to think about; what if she doesn’t want to get married at all?”
“Jacob,” she sighed. “She knows you’d do anything for Lily. You’ve done it right from the beginning.” He shifted in his seat as a phantom pain clutched his side, remembering his tussle with Thomas Lynch. “She would be insane not to want someone like you as a husband, and as a father to her child.”
“When did you learn to talk like that?” Jacob smirked.
“When you’re the eldest, you learn a thing or two.”
“Bullshit.” He scoffed, but wordlessly thanked her for the reassurance.
“Knock knock.” Eyes fixed on the doorway as Henry peered around the corner. “I don’t mean to interrupt, but I need some papers from Jacob.”
“Right; which ones?” He stood up and closed the two meter gap to the pile of half sorted paperwork.
“The ones on James Brudenell.”
“Who?” He frowned.
“Lord Cardigan.”
“Oh, that prick…” He thumbed through the various files, quickly getting to the end with no sign of the desired intel. “I must’ve left it at the house. I’ll head off there now and bring them to you tomorrow.”
“Can you not come back straight away?”
“I need to get to the school; there won’t be enough time. I’m taking Lily out for that new iced cream.” Evie quirked her lips into a knowing smile. “What?”
“Oh, nothing,” she shrugged.
Shaking his head, Jacob grabbed his hat and opened the door, watching the train slow into the station. “See you tomorrow.”
“Don’t forget the--”
“The papers, yes, I’ll get them!” By then, he had already jumped onto the platform, disappearing into the crowd.
----------
On the stroll back to the house, Jacob checked his pocket watch, planning his time accordingly. He’ll find the papers, finish the paperwork that should’ve been completed two weeks ago, and head to the school.
The street seemed unusually quiet at this time in the afternoon, but Jacob only grew concerned when he noticed a lack of Rooks. Usually, there would be more and more scattered around the closer he grew to the house, but so far he could count them all on one hand. A scuffling from behind him pricked at his ears. He spun, brows furrowed, but the road was empty, save for a carriage calmly trotting past. He used it as a reassurance that he was probably acting paranoid, and continued where he was heading, albeit at a faster pace.
The secure feeling he felt upon approaching the house eased the weight on his chest. Pulling out his key, he wasted no time in disappearing inside. It was quiet without you, and there was the familiar longing he felt in his heart. Sighing, he mentally crossed off another minute until he could hold you in his arms again.
He moved upstairs and into his study. At the prospect of spending more time with him, you jumped at the chance to make a spare empty room a working office. He hung his jacket and hat on a coat rack, taking a seat at the desk. The natural light coming through the window landed perfectly on the wood, illuminating the workspace without the need for candles. Jacob searched his drawers, finding the file with relative ease. He grabbed a dip pen, opened an ink pot, and quickly began scrawling details down.
He was lost in thought at the memory of his encounter with Lord Cardigan when a crude knocking hit the door downstairs. Jacob froze, focusing on the noise outside. All business was kept around the train; he sternly told Evie and Henry not to give out the address to anyone. The only other people who would have had an idea where he was were the Rooks stationed around the street, but they were loyal -- were they not as trustworthy as he thought? Who was at the door?
Harsher thuds against the door made his heart leap. He moved slowly; inch by inch, he stood and crept towards the door, pulling out the cane from his coat as quietly as he could. His boots barely made a sound as he headed down the stairs, hand calmly turning the knob to open the door.
On the other side stood two gentlemen, waiting almost expectantly. “Can I help you?” Jacob asked, tone laced with suspicion.
The two exchanged looks before one started to speak. “Pardon me, sir, but would you be interested in purchasing some humbugs? We’re opening a new shop not too far from here. We thought we could go from door to door to begin our business endeavours.”
Eyes flitting between the two, unease began to set in. “No, thank you.”
“Understood. Have a nice day.” The other tipped his hat and turned to leave as Jacob slowly shut the door again.
“What…?” He’s had bankers act more persuasive than these men. They did not seem that interested in sales. His eyes scanned the room, as if that would give him answers to a most peculiar interaction. In a second, his heart jumped as they landed on the clock. If he didn’t leave now, he’d be late to pick up Lily. He grabbed his coat and hat from upstairs and burst out of the door, rushing in the direction of the school.
----------
He made the journey by the skin of his teeth, jogging almost the entire way. As soon as he approached, the bell rang, and children began to flood out of the doors. He stood by a tree and scanned the children as they continued to rush out. A few moments later, Lily emerged, nervously clutching her hands together as she scanned the adults around her. Jacob frowned and walked towards her, concern growing. He could see the upset growing as she at first couldn’t see him. “Lily!”
As soon as she heard her name, her gaze immediately landed on the source and took off running towards him. He knelt just in time for her to jump into his arms, face hiding in his neck. “Hey, are you--” He was cut off by the sound of sobs. “Okay, alright, it’s alright, angel.” Confused, he picked her up and went to sit on a bench overlooking the playground, shushing her gently.
Cradled in one arm, Jacob used his free arm to reach into his pocket, bringing out his flask. “Take a drink, sweetheart.” She gingerly took the container, taking a few gulps of the fresh water inside. “Now, tell me what happened.” He tried to speak softly, to not provoke more tears.
“I didn’t do it! They think I did, but I didn’t!”
“What didn’t you do?”
“Throw a rock.”
“Even if you did do that, it’s only a rock.”
“It hit the teacher!”
Jacob was silent for a minute. If they thought she pelted a rock at the teacher, there would have been harsh punishments…
“Please believe me; I promise I didn’t do it!”
Shocked, Jacob pulled her closer. “Of course I believe you! Why wouldn’t I?” His eyes landed on her fists, which have barely opened since he saw her, save for the flask. “Can I see your hands?”
She nodded, and Jacob shifted her against his shoulder so he could use both hands as he slowly uncurled her fingers. Her palms were a stark red, the clear markings of a cane riddled her skin almost completely; and they looked like the instrument hit hard. He quietly asked for the other one, inspecting them with the care one would give to a newborn, brows furrowing at the sight. Lily watched his eyes moving constantly across her hands. The thought of letting her father down ushered tears to the surface. Jacob’s eyes caught hers watering. “Did I hurt you?”
She shook her head. “I’m sorry…”
“You have nothing to be sorry for, love. Do you know who really did it?”
Nodding slowly, she pointed to the playground to a boy who was laughing by a group of children who were playing with marbles. “Oliver.”
“Okay.” The two of them stayed there for a while as Lily continued to calm down.
Just as Lily began to smile at Jacob’s conversation, a shadow overcame the both of them. Jacob felt her recoiling into his side. He looked up to see a weathered looking man with a styled moustache and a stiff looking suit, a hand against the back of his head. “So, she’s yours.” The slight tone of disapproval channeled an urge of protectiveness inside him. He sat Lily behind him on the bench as he stood toe to toe with the teacher.
“Is there a problem?” Jacob’s eyes assessed the man from head to toe, noting the thin cane that he leaned on.
“You should be ashamed of your daughter’s behaviour.”
“Why? She did nothing wrong.”
“On the contrary…” Turning around, he removed the cloth on his head, revealing a jagged cut along the back of his head.
“It wasn’t me, sir! It really wasn’t!” Lily was begging for her teacher to believe her.
“Then who was it?”
Lily stood up on the bench still hiding behind Jacob’s shoulder but managing to equal his height. “Him.”
Her finger showed Oliver laughing at someone who had tripped over a skipping rope.
“Do you really think that she would do something like this?” Jacob raised an eyebrow.
Neither agreeing or disagreeing, he instead gestured with his cane. “I’m watching you, Y/L/N.” Jacob narrowed his eyes. “I would be mindful of your attitude towards my daughter.”
Grumbling, the teacher turned and walked away. “Oliver!”
“Th-Thank you.” A sniffling from behind him softed his face and melted his heart.
“Let’s go, angel. There’s some iced cream with our name on it.”` He hoisted Lily on his hip and headed in the direction of home, hoping that the anger would dissipate with each passing step.
----------
The house came into view shortly after Jacob left the sweet shop, two cardboard pots of the cold dessert in their hands. “This is delicious!” Lily was almost her normal self again over the journey home, relinquishing details of the day as they closed the short distance to the house. Placing Lily on the floor, he took out his key and pushed it into the lock, turning the knob. Without turning the key, the door opened. He must’ve forgotten to lock it when he left the house earlier. Brushing it off, he opened the door the rest of the way and stepped aside for Lily to enter first. He checked the rest of the street one more time for anything out of the ordinary before shutting and locking the door behind him, acting safe rather than sorry.
A slight smell filled his nose as he walked into the room. It was barely there, but he could smell something. Unfocusing his eyes, he watched as colours flooded his vision. Looking around, he couldn’t spot anything strange right away, but the smell was in the air and it set him on edge. Shaking his head, he rubbed his eyes. He had felt more emotion in one day than he had for a long time, and his body had worn him out. “Are you hungry, Lily?”
She sat at the kitchen table. “A little bit.”
“Anything you particularly fancy tonight?”
“Hmm… Sausages and potatoes!”
Jacob chuckled at her excitement. “Consider it done, my lady.”
----------
Dinner was over and done with by the time the sun set below the skyline. Jacob helped Lily get ready for bed before tucking her in. “When’s Mama coming home?” she asked, playing with Jacob’s hair.
“Hopefully in a few days; Warwick is surprisingly far, even by carriage.”
“Thank you. For believing me.”
Jacob smiled sombrely. “I will always believe you. That also reminds me…” He reached into the bedside drawer and pulled out a small pot of salve. “May I?” Lily offered her hands, and Jacob gently rubbed the ointment over her raw skin.
“It’s cold.”
“It’s supposed to get rid of the pain. How do they feel?”
She nodded. “Good.”
As he returned the salve to the table, he took a breath, steeling himself to give either the best news or the worst news.
“How would you feel… if I asked your mother--”
“To marry you?!” Her eyes widened, her smile reaching her ears. “Yes!”
She jumped out of the covers to hug Jacob tightly. He reciprocated, closing his eyes to savour the moment. “Please ask her,” she whispered.
“You don’t have to tell me twice.” Giggles filled the air as he pulled the covers over her again.
“Thank you, for letting me in.”
“You make Mama happy. That’s all I want.”
Jacob sighed, a small smile playing on his lips. “You’re wise beyond your years.” He leant down to kiss her forehead. “Goodnight, angel.” He stood up and blew out the candle.
“Goodnight, Papa.” Lily didn’t miss the way Jacob’s eyes crinkled as he smiled, shutting the door quietly.
He poked his head into his study, sighing when he saw his half-finished paperwork that needed to be handed to Greenie the next morning. Every fibre in his being resisted, but he knew his procrastination would catch up to him eventually. So he sat down, lit a candle, and tried to wrap everything up in as little time as possible.
About half an hour went by before Jacob finished the long overdue paperwork. Struggling to keep his eyes open, he went downstairs to the spare room he kept his bedclothes in. He fell backwards onto the bed. “Just five minutes…” he bartered with himself, resting his eyes.
----------
A scream made his blood run cold.
Bolting upright, Jacob immediately noticed plumes of smoke coming in from underneath the door, the burning smell inviting a cough from his lungs.
The house was on fire.
He lunged for the doorknob, the metal quickly searing his skin. His fingers clenched around the knob reflexively. “Ah, fuck!” He shook out his hand, watching as the flesh blistered in front of his eyes. Turning around, he dug around in the chest of drawers for extra clothes to wrap around the knob, turning and pulling swiftly before the heat travelled through the fabric. The door burst open. Jacob ducked as the flames whipped around the open space, newly fed by the released oxygen. Fresh smoke engulfed the room; Jacob inhaled a lungful as it blew towards him. He cleared his chest as he fanned the smoke away. Wrapping the clothes around his arm as a guard, he braced himself and ran upstairs, only one thing on his mind.
“Lily?!” The flames had almost completely engulfed the lower floor; he was surprised and relieved that he had managed to dodge any falling debris. “Lily!” He covered the metal with the clothes as he reached her door, slowly peeling the door away and slipping through as small a gap as he could, avoiding the mistake he made earlier. He closed the door behind him, the air luckily cleaner in her bedroom. “Lily, where are you?!”
He checked under the bed, and began to grow panicked when he couldn’t find her. He heard the scream, but nothing else. What if…
He swallowed, trying to ease the tight band in his chest.
Opening the wardrobe, he practically collapsed in relief when he saw Lily cowering in the corner. “Come to me, angel.” She dived into his arms, quivering in fear. “It’s alright, we’ll get out. I need you to be brave for me, okay?”
“Okay.” Her voice was shaking.
He looked around for a quick exit, eyes landing on a window. He led Lily over and unlatched it, pushing it with his uninjured hand, albeit with difficulty. Leaning out, the air cleansed his lungs. He hoisted Lily onto the windowsill to give her fresher air, holding her to make sure she doesn’t fall out. She clutched onto him tightly. He noted how it opened into an alleyway. He heard the bells of police and fire engines around the front of the house.
“HEY! OVER HERE!” A man peered around the corner. “HEY! HELP!”
“We can’t fit the ladder through here! You have to go around the front!”
Jacob blinked. “Have you gone mad?!”
“There’s a small window around the front, looks like the landing. You better make a move before it’s no longer an option!”
“Can’t you just climb down?” Lily mumbled, mind in shock.
Jacob inspected his blistering palm; it felt as if he was still holding the doorknob. Slowly, he put pressure on his hand against the windowsill. The pain immediately bubbled up his arm. Biting his lip, he tried to pull himself onto the windowsill. With his weight, it was maybe possible, since he could drop higher than normal and roll once he hit the floor. With Lily, that wasn’t an option.
“I can’t risk it.”
“Well?!” The man was still there, watching him.
“Be ready!” Jacob pulled Lily into him. “I need you to breathe into this, alright, angel?” She nodded slowly. He gave her one of the shirts wrapped around his arm. “Close your eyes.”
“Should I count to ten?”
“It shouldn’t take any longer, love.”
Taking a second to compose himself, he wrapped his hand up and opened the door, squeezing through as little as he could before shutting the door again. He made a beeline for the end of the hall, dodging the flames as they grew nearer, licking the edge of the wooden floor. Reaching the window was the easy part. The hard part was opening the damn thing. It felt heavier than it usually did, and he strained his free hand to push it to the top. Outside, firemen were already level with the window, waiting for the two of them to emerge.
“One of you at a time.” Without hesitating, Jacob leaned out of the window, one arm reaching Lily out of the window, while the other stopped him from falling out himself.
Just as the firemen approached, Jacob heard a crack above him. “Take her. Take her now!” The urgency in his voice paid off, as he jumped out of the way of a falling support beam, blocking his way out. He hit the floor, covering his face as embers flew around him
Lily crying out caused his heart to flip, but he managed to catch a glimpse of her safely in the arms of the firemen. “No! PAPA!” His anxiety eased slightly, but only just. He scrambled to his feet just as the beam crumbled completely, blocking the window from view.
“Shit!” Coughing, Jacob looked around for another exit. His mind thought back to Lily’s bedroom; he could probably climb down carefully one-handed if he was quick enough. His study also seemed to be the furthest from the rest of the flames.
However, he was on borrowed time.
Downstairs was fully demolished; there was no way out there. Upstairs was closing in on him fast, the heat beginning to singe the hair on his arms and sear his skin. He ran for his study, narrowly avoiding falling debris. As he slammed the door shut, he was relieved at the sight of the room being unscathed. For now. He looked over the papers; they were definitely worth taking.
He emptied his desk of the files and stuffed them in a satchel that hid under his desk. He worked tenderly with his burned hand, careful not to aggravate the wound more than he already had. He coughed some more as he slid the satchel over his head, tightening the strap so it would lay fast against his back. As the cold leather touched his skin, he hissed. The flames must have licked him on the way in. He turned to check how much time he had left.
The fire had crept inside the doorframe, taunting him in a turbulent tango.
Jacob hurried for the window, looking for the latch. His fingers felt around the edge, but he couldn’t feel anything. He tried pushing, with no luck. Does this window not even open?!
Frantic, his non-dominant and uninjured hand went for the first thing that he could always rely on.
Two wide shots rang out, cracking the glass in a spider-web mosaic. He moved to shatter the glazing, but the world began to spin. Knees wobbling, he fell against his desk, hitting the floor. Coughing hurt, breathing hurt, thinking hurt.
But he was so close.
He blinked away the world that spun around him, shakily getting to his feet. He threw the force of his whole arm into the window, the gun providing the force to break the shards completely. Clearing the way for his hands, Jacob holstered the gun and slowly began the climb onto the roof.
He wasn’t dying. Not today.
Wincing every other second, he pulled himself half-heartedly onto the tiles. Jacob took a second to try and stabilise his vision, securing extra fabric around his hand. He manWeuvered his way around the burning holes, hoping instead to find a way down that doesn’t involve jumping or falling.
Unfortunately for him, that choice was made for him.
A tile came loose under his foot. He slipped, the edge of the roof coming almost too soon for him to react. His fingers grasped the gutter, which did nothing but snap under his weight. Upon hitting the ground, Jacob managed to roll, but instead of ending on his feet, he slumped across the floor. Groaning, he lay still as he recollected himself. To anyone else, he looked dead.
A pained cry set his heart pumping again, yet he didn’t realise at first that the cry was because of him, not for him. Light footsteps rushed over to him. “Pa? Papa?” He felt fingertips dance across his cheek. “Please wake up!”
He reached for the source of the voice. “I’m okay. Are you alright?” He managed to open his eyes to check over Lily’s state. Her eyes were bloodshot, her skin was dirtied in soot, and one of her hands was bleeding. “Has anyone said they would help you with this?”
She shook her head, the worry not leaving her face. “I’m scared.”
“Don’t be; it’s over now.” He began the arduous process of standing up; from his stomach to his hands to his knees to his feet. Offering his hand to her, Jacob led the two of them out into the street. When everyone gathered in the street saw them, they cheered. Rooks quickly came to assist Jacob and pick up Lily, but he waved them away. He limped his way to the ambulance wagon waiting in front of them. Lily was hoisted onto the end while Jacob leaned heavily against the side. Lily faced him for reassurance.
“Mr Frye, sir!” He tilted his head as little as he could to get a view of who was calling his name. “Are you alright?”
“I’ll be fine; just a bit singed.” He tried to joke, but the pain in his face betrayed his laidback attitude. He grasped his ribs, as if it would ease the burn on the inside. “Where’s Evie?”
“As soon as we heard what happened, we sent for her. She should be here any minute now.”
“Lily goes with Evie. As soon as she shows up, take her to the train. She’ll be safe there.” Another hard cough shook his chest.
“With all due respect, are you sure you’re well?”
“I’m… I…” The floor was ripped from under him. Jacob’s knees buckled as his vision went black. After a few seconds, he came to. The Rooks had caught him on the way down. Disorientated, he blinked, trying to process what was going on around him.
He heard a familiar voice. “Where are they?” Rooks wrapped Jacob’s arms around their necks, pulling him to the edge of the wagon. He barely registered arms pulling him from behind to lie down. He noted how he was staring up at the stars.
“Evie!” A young, panicked yell drove Jacob to sit up, but hands pushed him back down against the wood.
“You don’t want to make things any worse, Mr Frye.”
His body jolted between consciousness and unconsciousness as Evie came into view. She also looked worried. “Jacob? I’ve got Lily; she’ll be safe. I’ll come to the hospital as soon as I can.” Lily was snuggled against Evie, a bandage wrapped around her hand.
“Let’s hope I don’t fall off.” It was weak and hoarse, but there was humour in his tone.
“You better not.”
“Take the bag.” He gestured to the leather satchel underneath him. Slowly, she undid the strap and pulled it out from under him, barely able to avoid causing a wince. She looked inside to find the papers in impressive condition. “It’s the paperwork Greenie asked for.”
Jacob’s smile was weak as the wagon began to drive away. The rocking of the cobblestones was rough, and although jarring, also brought comfort. He fell in company with the stars as his consciousness left him yet again.
----------
The next time he became lucid, he immediately noticed that he could breathe better; oxygen was easier to take in than before, and although not perfect, kept the lightheadedness away. He opened his eyes slowly, blinking to adjust to the light. The feeling of rough gauze was not unfamiliar to him, so he assessed the wounds on his back based on how rough it felt to lean on.
He brought his burned hand up to see that it had also been wrapped neatly. Although that was the majority of his wounds, his entire body ached. He leaned back into his pillow and closed his eyes, assessing the situation. Approaching footsteps made him roll his head to the side, and a doctor appeared with a clipboard. “How are you feeling, my boy?” He asked with a pencil in his mouth, flipping through the various pages.
“Like I’ve been run over by a carriage. Multiple times.”
“I’m not surprised; you inhaled half a factory.”
Jacob prepared himself for the question he knew he had to ask but would hate the answer to. “How long has it been?”
“Oh, a few days, give or take.”
“How many days are we giving or taking?”
Just then, a door opened on the far end of the ward, a few people rapidly approaching. As they turned the corner, Jacob’s heart sank a bit. You were hurrying towards him with the look of a mortified wife, but he dreaded what you thought would be more mortifying: your house burning down, putting your only daughter’s life in danger…
“Thank God!” You swerved around the bed and kissed him, one which conveyed a hundred different emotions, the most evident being relief. After the initial shock, Jacob’s fingers came to your jaw, lightly directing as he kissed you deeper.
He slowly pulled away, worried eyes scanning your face. “I’m so sorry, Y/N, I haven’t the foggiest what happened--”
“You’re both safe; that’s all that matters.”
“But the house…”
“I’ve been prepared for disasters like this for a while. Everything I couldn’t stand to lose went in a fireproof box. There’s nothing gone that I can’t replace.”
“Papa!” Your eyes widened as you exchanged an impressed look with Jacob. Lily had crawled onto the bed and nestled her way into Jacob’s arms.
“Are you alright?” Without speaking, she nodded, deciding to play with his hand, fidgeting with his fingers and tracing the lines. Jacob looked to Evie, who followed her in.
Shepulled a concerned face, coming up to her and putting her hands over Lily’s ears. “She’s been crying herself to sleep, sometimes waking up in the middle of the night calling for one of you, sometimes both. She’ll heal, I’m sure, but for now I think time needs to pass. I investigated what could have happened that night; it wasn’t you.”
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they were Templars; pisses me off though.” He turned to you. “If you hadn’t visited your family…”
“Don’t ponder the ‘if’s, Jacob. It leads to all sorts of grief.” You threaded your hands through his hair.
Evie nodded. “All I know is what happened, not necessarily who did it.”
“Go on.”
“The house was rigged to burn down. Someone must’ve broken in, set down some oil or gas, and set it alight. It all happened very quickly -- it’s a miracle you got out when you did.”
At the explanation, Jacob ran a hand down his face. “The fun never stops.” He shifted to stand up.
“What are you doing?” You put your hand on his shoulder.
“I’m going to find whoever did this, and I have a feeling I know exactly where to start.”
“Not in this state you’re not.”
He stood up, much to your protests. “Honestly, Y/N, I’m…” His vision went black immediately, blood rushing to his head.
You quickly caught him. “‘Fine?” Sitting him down again, you brushed his hair out of his face. “Just take it easy.”
“I have errands to run.”
Evie whispered something to Lily, who gave the couple a mischievous grin. “We can do it!”
Jacob smiled, catching on. He leaned down to Lily’s ear. “Pick something Y/F/C,” he whispered. She nodded, grabbing Evie’s hand and running away.
The both of you laughed as Evie was dragged out of the ward. “What was that about?” You raised an eyebrow at the secrecy.
“It’s a surprise.”
Rolling your eyes, you joined him on the bed. “Don’t keep me waiting for too long.”
Jacob smiled to himself, the familiar excitement climbing. “I won’t.”

@galahadwilder (AO3)
Galahad is a large poster on Tumblr (I’m actually surprised when I refresh my dash and the first post isn’t from him). On about 111 works total, he has 95 works for Miraculous Ladybug only! The others are mainly from the DCU. Many of them all are WIPs, but hey! Who doesn’t have WIPs?
Here’s my Top 10 (because I have to stop, eventually...)
Wisdom Teeth:  Words:7605 - Chapters:7/7 Summary: Adrien FaceTimes Marinette while high on painkillers after wisdom tooth surgery, and lets something slip that he really shouldn’t have.
What I liked: Marinette driving Adrien insane :)
Personal Space :  Words:6342 - Chapters:3/? - Updated:2020-10-25 Summary: Adrien Agreste was never taught to say no. Never allowed to have boundaries. So when someone finally pushes too far, Ladybug is left with a partner in pain, a crush in need of the kindness he’s never received...And a former idol she needs to murder.
What I liked: Marinette going into bodyguard mode, Adrien’s friends opened minds, DJWifi banter over the phone. Can’t wait for next chapter!
Inconceivable : Words:2537 - Chapters:3/? - Updated:2019-07-19 Summary: There are two things of which Gabriel Agreste is absolutely certain. The first is that there is no such thing as a soulmate. Everything he knows about both science and magic claims it impossible. The second thing is that his son somehow, infuriatingly, has a soulmate anyway.
What I liked: Gabriel POV, Gabriel actually having good intentions towards his son, Sabine plotting with him, credible explanations for canon
Notes to Self: Words:22911 - Chapters:16/? - Updated:2019-10-23 Summary: Adrien finds out midway through Oblivio that his assumption was wrong, and that Marinette is NOT his girlfriend. So he decides to do leave a message calling himself out for failing to properly appreciate the most incredible person he’s ever met. Now, having been confronted with his mistakes, Adrien has realized that he has a lot to make up for—and a girl who needs to know exactly how much she means to him.
What I liked: I think I’ve read this fic 3 times now, and can’t be bored of it. Adrien figuring out he was in love with Marinette from day 1, Oblivio-Adrien calling himself out, Tom and Sabine’s open mind about their super-heroing. Bonus: Kagami wanting a polygamic relationship and Adrien admitting looking at Luka’s butt 😂
Officiated: Words:7562 - Chapters:9/? - Updated:2020-04-28 Summary: The aftermath of an Akuma attack leaves Ladybug and Chat Noir legally married.
What I liked: mostly the originality of the akuma. The fic might update, but it also feels complete. You won’t be stuck on a cliffhanger.
Children of War: Words:8295 - Chapters:7/? - Updated:2019-05-03 Summary: Something dark is coming to Paris, and Master Fu has been lying to Adrien and Marinette. What happened to the previous Team Miraculous? And how did Marinette's aunt Bridgette really end up in a mental hospital?
What I liked: Gabriel’s intentions to save Paris, the integration of the Quantic Kids, the strong angst. Can’t wait for more!
Sick Days (series):  Works:2 - Complete: No Summary:  Adrien comes home after a long photoshoot to find Marinette Dupain-Cheng asleep in his bed, running a horrific fever. What is she doing there, and how did she get into his house without setting off any alarms? (And why does she keep mumbling his name?) / Marinette’s cold is passing, but the embarrassment is not—they may be dating, and they may be partners, but she still can’t keep it together around Adrien the way she can around his alter ego. Which is a problem, because he’s caught her cold—and the absolute lack of filter that came with it.
What I liked: the delirium shenanigans (read Out Sick by @sweetsweetsweetie if you like that too), the Dupain-Chengs actual A+ parenting. Please, Galahad, don’t abandon this fic!!
Wingman: Words:11211 - Chapters:10/12 - Updated:2019-08-06 Summary: Hawkmoth's Akuma have been acting strange lately--every single one has been an obsessive LadyNoir shipper, much to Chat's horrific embarrassment. Ladybug hasn't noticed, but Chat can't quite get over the fact that Hawkmoth seems to have redirected his supervillain antics to setting him up with the girl of his dreams.
What I liked: The humoristic scenes (Nath scolding Gabe was my favorite), Gabriel trying to parent properly, Nathalie caring for both Agrestes. “I swear this fic was supposed to be a comedy”
The shirt: Words:16503 - Chapters:20/? - Updated:2019-10-22 Summary: On a cold night in January, Chat Noir lends Ladybug his jacket--only to find Marinette wearing it to class the next day. And that's just the beginning of the trouble.
What I liked: the fluff over the fluff, Chloé working on her redemption, the post-reveal banter,  "Tell... my father... he's a diiiiiiick..."
We Break Things Down Just to Build Them Back Up Again: Words:7916 - Chapters:5/? - Updated:2019-11-05 Summary: Adrien promised he'd have Marinette's back, but no matter how badly she needs him, he won't take any kind of action to protect her—or, for that matter, himself. When Marinette discovers WHY he finds it so impossible to stand up to bullies, she resolves to put aside her crush to help him escape his abusive household. But the less she thinks about Adrien, the more she thinks about a different blond boy in her life—and the more time she spends taking care of Adrien, the more he starts to see her as more than just a friend...
What I liked: Marinette’s mom friend override, Adrien’s hurt to comfort (even though Chat’s part is yet to come), Tom telling Adrien he’s proud of him, and Adrien’s reaction to that just made me cry. I’m craving for moooooooooore!!!

I’ve been reading non-stop since my previous Fic of the month special. I have many regrets in life, but reading Galahad’s fics wasn’t one of them!
Thanks for so much work and efforts! I really love the variety, originality and consistency between the fics, even if they have different stories. I really love the hurt to comfort too, and how many mental troubles and disorders are depicted.
Please read, share and leave kudos on his works!

After the night at Johns, Molly hadn’t spoken to him. They would see each other in passing, but either said a word. She had to admit she did miss his children. And from what Tommy had told her, they missed her too. He believed they were now plotting to run their usual nanny away, so she could take her place.
Today, Finn had run off with the brothers to the fair, which left, Molly with a free morning. Polly had phoned to ask if she would join Ada and herself for lunch. Of course Molly accepted. Ada was showing now and Molly wanted to see how much she remembered from her midwifery training.
The three ladies were now sat around Polly's table, chatting and eating lunch. Molly didn’t realize how much she had missed them until now. She only wished her mother was sitting there with them.
“So Miss Molly, I heard you spent some time with your future step-children the other day. I also heard you and John had some words. How was that?,” Ada asked as she took a sip of tea.
Molly rolled her eyes at her, “Stepchildren? Not sure what you are on about, but I did mind your niece and nephews. They were well-behaved. He and I talked, for maybe twenty minutes when he got home.”
“They were good because you're the first woman he’s ever brought to the house beside us and the nanny,” Ada chuckled, “But seriously, when are you and John going to get back together? He told me you got upset. And then he said he told you he wanted to make it up to you which made you cry. My guess is you're starting to feel something again. I just hope you wait to marry after I’ve had this damn baby.”
Molly nearly choked on her tea as the words spilled out of Adas mouth. Before she could speak, Polly spoke up, “Now Ada, that is the first time those two had spent more than two seconds alone with one another since she got back. I don’t think the wedding bells are ringing for them just yet. She also didn’t come here today to talk about John.” Molly smiled at Polly, silently thanking her for defending her.
“She came here to relax on her first morning off. Finn can be a little monster sometimes. She also wants to give you a quick check up for the baby. I know she has been dying to get her hands on your bump since she walked in,” Polly laughed while Molly just smiled widely. Molly wasn’t going to forget what Ada had said. She, too, had been thinking about that night. What she said and what he said. She didn’t know what she wanted. It was one of the reasons she was not speaking to him.
“That’s all people have been doing! Poking and rubbing! I’m a human not a dog! ,” Ada complained.
“Oh come on,” Molly said, standing up, “I’ll be quick, I promise.” She then reached to help Ada stand, making their way over to the sofa. Polly sat on the arm of the sofa watching Molly in awe. She had rolled up Adas blouse to expose her belly and started to feel around.
“I know it’s early, but the baby is in a good, head down position. That should make delivery easier if he or she stays that way,” Molly said as she felt around. She then reached into her bag to find her wooden stethoscope. She then placed it around a few times before she found the heartbeat.
Molly smiled up at Ada,” Ah, there it is! Sounds healthy. Polly would you like to listen?”
Polly was over by Molly’s side instantly. She smiled when she heard how fast the heartbeat was,” I’m right about the gender.”
“Polly I don’t want to know!” Ada wined, which caused all three to laugh.
Later, Molly realized she stayed at Polly's a little longer than she should have. She raced over to the betting shop to start tidying. She swept, dusted and cleaned the ash trays, then ran upstairs to grab the sheets off the beds, so she could do the washing tomorrow. She then grabbed the mop bucket and some rags to clean the floors.
Molly was halfway done when the door slammed open, scaring her. “Watch the floors. They may still be wet,” she yelled and continued to scrub.
“What are you doing on the floor?”
Molly then looked up to see John standing by the door. He looked like he had gotten into a fight. His knuckles were bruised and bloody, and his face had a few cuts on it.
Molly stood up off the floor and brushed her skirt off. She then walked over to John and pulled him into the kitchen.
“Sit up on the table, please. I think the cut above your eye will need stitches”, she said as she walked over to her bag to get her medical kit and to find some alcohol.
“You didn’t answer my question. Why are you scrubbing the floor on your hands and knees? You know we have a mop... somewhere, ” he said, sitting on the table. He wasn’t going to fight with her about cleaning his cuts. She was going to help him no matter what he said. That was the nurse in her.
Molly chuckled, “I know you do, but no matter how many times I use it, it doesn’t get clean. Your gamblers bring in so much mud.”
She then proceeded to clean the cuts on his hands and wrap them. John never took his eyes off of her. She had changed a lot in the eight years she was gone, but she was still the most beautiful girl in Small Heath.
After wrapping Johns hand, Molly then moved to the cuts on his face. She looked him in the eyes as she wiped away the blood. “You want to tell me what happened? ,” she asked him.
“Fight with the Lees. Tommy bought a horse from them for the races. You should let me take you to go see it. I’m sure Charlie and Curly would love to see you.”
“I’m sure I’ll see them when your lot has a family meeting. You know I don’t like horses John,” she then grabbed a bottle of whiskey, “Here drink this. I’ve got to do the stitches now.” John barely flinched while she was stitching him up.
“There I think I’m done,” putting a bandage over them, “I’ll take a look at them next week and I’ll remove them if I think it healed okay.” Molly then backed away from John, but he wrapped his arms around her waist.
“You know the horse, it’s white. She’s gorgeous. But not as gorgeous as you,” he reached up to move a piece of hair out of Molly’s face.
Molly sighed, “John, you're drunk. I have to finish up here and get back home.”
“I’m not drunk. I’m not, love. I didn’t come here to have you stitch me up. I came because I wanted to be alone with you. You’ve been avoiding me. I told you I wanted to make it right, so tonight I’m going to start. If you let me.”
Molly looked down, tears in her eyes, not wanting to admit what she was feeling. She could feel the walls she built up crumbling with every word.
John then pushed her backward, hopped off the table, and put both of his hands on her cheeks making her look at him.
Resting his forehead on hers, “Molly, let me in. I can feel you wanting to pull away. Just let me in, so I can show you how sorry I am for hurting. Please, Molly please.”
Tears streamed down Molly’s face. She knew she was falling too hard and too fast for John again. Her body tingled every time he touched her just like when they were younger. The walls she built up were now rubble. She made up her mind. She was going to let him mend her broken heart.
“Okay,” she whispered.
John wipes her tears and then leaned in, “I’m going to kiss you now.” All Molly could do was nod looking him in the eyes.
And when their lips met for the first time in eight years, it was like they were never apart. They both moved in sync with another. Things then started to get heated. They felt like teenagers again. John picked her up and set her on the table and pulled away.
“Why’d you stop!” Molly asked breathing heavy.
John smirked,” I just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to hit me.”
“Shut up and take me upstairs,” she said still trying to catch her breath, “And don’t ask me if I’m sure because at this moment I’m pretty fuckin’ sure.”
John then scooped her up from the table and carried her up to his old room where they made the sweetest, most passionate love the two had ever shared.
They laid in bed for hours, Molly’s head on Johns chest, listening to his heartbeat. John runs his fingers through her hair and kissing her head. It was like the past eight years had been forgotten.
“I hate to ruin this moment John but I really need to clean up downstairs. Everyone will be here in a few hours,” she said looking over at him.
“Hmm, okay,” releasing his grip.
Then Molly got out of the bed to get dressed. Once she finished and was heading for the door, John reached out,” Hey, promise me you have no regrets.”
Molly walked back over to the bed, “I won’t if you keep mending my heart,” she then put her hand on his cheek, “I love you John Shelby. I never stopped and I probably never will.”
John smiled, “Good, because I’ll spend my whole life righting my wrongs love. I know right now I’m not one-hundred percent forgiven and the past isn’t one-hundred percent forgotten, but I’m happy we are on our way. I love you Molly Payne. With my whole heart.”
Molly leaned down to kiss him. For the first time in eight years, she felt truly happy. John was working his way to mend her heart, and she was finally going to let him.

Anne, Queen of Great Britain (1665-1714).
Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland (1702–07); queen of Great Britain and Ireland (1707–14).
.
She was Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland between 8 March 1702 and 1 May 1707. On 1 May 1707, under the Acts of Union, the kingdoms of England and Scotland united as a single sovereign state known as Great Britain. She continued to reign as Queen of Great Britain and Ireland until her death in 1714.
.
Anne was born in the reign of Charles II to his younger brother and heir presumptive, James, whose suspected Roman Catholicism was unpopular in England. On Charles's instructions, Anne and her elder sister, Mary, were raised as Anglicans. Mary married their Dutch Protestant cousin, William III of Orange, in 1677, and Anne married Prince George of Denmark in 1683.
.
On Charles's death in 1685, James succeeded to the throne, but just three years later he was deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Mary and William became joint monarchs. Although the sisters had been close, disagreements over Anne's finances, status, and choice of acquaintances arose shortly after Mary's accession and they became estranged. William and Mary had no children. After Mary's death in 1694, William reigned alone until his own death in 1702, when Anne succeeded him.
.
During her reign, Anne favoured moderate Tory politicians, who were more likely to share her Anglican religious views than their opponents, the Whigs. The Whigs grew more powerful during the course of the War of the Spanish Succession, until 1710 when Anne dismissed many of them from office. Her close friendship with Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough, turned sour as the result of political differences. The Duchess took revenge with an unflattering description of the Queen in her memoirs, which was widely accepted by historians until Anne was re-assessed in the late 20th century.
.
Anne was plagued by ill health throughout her life, and from her thirties, she grew increasingly ill and obese. Despite seventeen pregnancies she died without surviving issue and was the last monarch of the House of Stuart. Under the Act of Settlement 1701, which excluded all Catholics, she was succeeded by her second cousin George I of the House of Hanover.

A fleeting glimpse of family life
Tumblr media
(Chris Floyd/Camera Press/Press Association via The Associated Press)
Glimpses of what family life is like for Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, are fleeting at best. The couple, who marked their 10th wedding anniversary the other day, are well-known for the priority they place on their three young children and protecting their privacy. But they opened up — a bit — on April 29, a decade to the day since their marriage at Westminster Abbey, posting a short video full of family fun at the beach, roasting marshmallows and taking a turn on the teeter-totter. “We are enormously grateful for the 10 years of support we have received in our lives as a family,” they wrote on Twitter in setting up the 39-second video, which has been viewed 1.2 million times. While the video focused on their family — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — there is also the sense that William, 38, and Kate, 39, could be increasing the time they spend on royal work. That seems particularly possible given the fact that other senior members of the Royal Family — notably Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, as well as Prince Andrew — have stepped back from official duties. Royal author and biographer Penny Junor suspects William and Kate will try to balance the two. “Family is hugely important to them both — they know that security in a child’s early years is crucial — but they also recognize that royal work is important, particularly when the family is short of some key players,” Junor said via email. “So [it's] a difficult juggling act, but they seem a very secure couple with a very happy family life and an exceptionally good work ethic.” That work ethic has been questioned at times over the past decade, with media murmurings now and then about just how hard they were really working. But those questions have faded. For Kate in particular, there is an increased emphasis on issues she has made a priority, especially early child development. There is also a sense that Kate’s transition into the Royal Family has been a careful, gradual one, and stands in some contrast to how William’s mother, Diana, found the experience of joining the family. She later complained that she received little guidance or praise as she settled into her role. “Kate has grown in confidence over the last 10 years since she married William,” said Junor. “She has really settled into her role and established herself as a role model as a mother and royal wife.” As much as the video posted for their anniversary offers glimpses of their family enjoying time at play, there is also a sense that it was a carefully crafted impression they chose to share. “In publicising their happy family life, William and Kate follow a well-trodden royal path,” author Matthew Dennison wrote in The Telegraph. Dennison takes that path back two centuries, to public portrayals of family life for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who would go on to have nine children. “The vignettes of their life off-duty that the Cambridges do share with the public invariably depict them as a loving couple and devoted parents, casually dressed, without the trappings of royal status,” said Dennison. In that, Dennison sees “a new embodiment of a concept Victoria and Albert embraced with zeal 200 years ago, that led to [political analyst] Walter Bagehot’s well-known reflection: ‘A family on the throne is an interesting idea. It brings down the pride of sovereignty to the level of petty life.'" The happy family times weren’t the only video offering from William and Kate in recent days. They also launched a YouTube channel this week, with the first video focusing mainly on multiple glimpses of them on official duties over the years. That 25-second clip has garnered more than 2.4 million views since going live on Wednesday.
More of Mike
For a while now, there’s been a sense the Royal Family is undergoing a streamlining in its upper echelons when it comes to official duties. Some of it is thought to be part of a broader view of the future — and the idea that Prince Charles is ultimately looking to a smaller core group of royals to carry the House of Windsor forward when his time comes to follow his mother, Queen Elizabeth, on the throne. Some of it is a function of circumstance — Prince Harry and Meghan have stepped away from official duties, as has Prince Andrew, in the fallout from his disastrous interview with the BBC regarding his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. When it comes to considering which members of the family might step up and do more, the list has become relatively short: along with Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, there is Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, along with William and Kate. Nowhere on the list is Mike Tindall. And while there is nothing official to suggest the husband of Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara, is assuming a specific roster of new duties, it has been interesting to see him pop up more often recently. Tindall, 42, took part in an online chat regarding Parkinson’s disease with the Duchess of Gloucester that was posted the other day. Tindall’s father has Parkinson’s, and he’s been a longtime supporter of efforts to help those with the disease. In a recent interview with the BBC, where Tindall also spoke about the impact of Parkinson’s, he offered some family perspective on the recent death of Zara’s grandfather, Prince Philip. Tindall said Queen Elizabeth mourned her husband with bravery and was "amazing" at his funeral. A former England rugby player, Tindall is no stranger to media chatter. He’s part of a laddish podcast — The Good, the Bad & the Rugby — that has also become an unexpected source of some royal news in recent months. Word broke on the podcast late last year that he and Zara were expecting their third child. A few months later, Tindall shared the happy news that son Lucas had arrived, albeit not quite as they were expecting — with Zara giving birth on their bathroom floor. Happy birthday — to Louis, Charlotte and Archie
Tumblr media
(Kate, Duchess of Cambridge via The Associated Press)
Royal social media channels have offered up a number of photos of late to mark the cluster of birthdays among younger members of the Royal Family in late April and early May. Public glimpses of the children are relatively rare, so the photos sometimes become news stories in and of themselves. Prince Louis turned three on April 23, and his elder sister, Charlotte, turned six on May 2. In both instances, and following what has become a tradition in their family, the birthdays were marked with photos taken by their mother, Kate. Louis was captured on his bike as he headed off for his first day of nursery school, and Charlotte’s photo was a close-up. Their cousin, Archie, turned two on May 6. His parents, Prince Harry and Meghan, posted a sepia-toned photo on their website of Archie shot from behind and holding a bunch of balloons. In a message on the website, Harry and Meghan urged people to “join us in advocating for vaccine equity on Archie’s birthday.”
Royally quotable
"It is clear that reconciliation, equality and mutual understanding cannot be taken for granted, and will require sustained fortitude and commitment."
— Queen Elizabeth, in a
message marking the centenary of Northern Ireland.

The Mystery of Castiel
Dean sets out to prove that his husband, Castiel, is an acual angel walking amongst man. He tries to convince his friends with his documentary. much to the confusion and amusement of fans.
Part of the Famous Husband verse, which is also a series)
On AO3.
Ships: Destiel
Warnings: None, but I’ll be happy to tag something for you, no questions asked! :)
~~~~~~~~~~
The video opened with a grainy and moving shot of a dark hallway with lights spilling out of a doorway at the end. From behind the camera Dean whispered: “I think there’s something in my house. It feels ancient, powerful. So, I’m checking it out.”
He was close to the doorway and he took a deep breath before rounding the last corner, finally showing the kitchen.
Standing at the kitchen counter was Cas, he was in his pajamas and looked like a dear in headlights when he heard Dean enter. In his hands he held a cereal box from which he was eating dry cereal. The digital clock beside him displayed the time, 03:07. His voice was gruff from sleep as he hurriedly said: “It’s not what it looks like.”
Dean screamed, then his intro rolled. It was a drawn impala that came down the road, it stopped in the middle of the screen and the drawn Dean gave a wink to the viewers, then he sped off again and the smoke was bridge back to the video.
The backdrop was out of focus, but you could make out a bunch of red string and vague pictures. Dean was sitting in front of it, his hair was disheveled and he had dark bruises under his eyes. Of course, the viewers didn’t have to know that was thanks to Jessica's make up skills. He rubbed his forehead and said: “I can’t do this anymore.”
He sighed deeply and went on: “I love my husband, I do. He is my everything, but the elephant in the room hasn’t been discussed seriously and it’s eating me up. I don’t know how to start talking about it without him turning it into a joke. Which is why I am making this video, I want your opinions and tips on how to handle this or just for you tell me if I’m acting crazy. Because I really need someone to tell me what to do.”
He was now looking straight into the camera as he said: “I think Cas is either an angel or some sort of cryptid. He’s just not human that’s all I know, okay. He has to be immortal, not of this world. I mentioned this before, but no one takes me seriously.”
The video changed and a time line came into view, while Dean did a voice over: “I met Cas in September of 2010. According to him he is born in 1990, so he should be 30, if all of this is correct and he has aged just like a human would.”
A dot appeared on the line and 2013 came above it. Dean said: “I started my YouTube channel in 2013, Cas claims to have been 23 at this time and I have footage of him in one of my videos.”
A clip played of Dean telling the camera he was going to try and drink three liters of soda in one go with no break in between. In the background a man walked past.
“I now see that that might not have been the best clip, so here is a picture as well.” Deans voice was heard as a photo of a young Dean and Cas appeared. They were sitting next to each other on the beach. Dean had a beer in his hand and cheered to the camera while Cas did a peace sign in the background, bee sunglasses firmly on his face.
“To compare this to now, here is a picture Sam took of us last week.” Dean said and another photo appeared beside it. This one was taken on the couch the viewers knew so well from live streams. Dean and Cas were sitting next to each other in this picture as well, they had a blanket thrown over their legs and a bowl of popcorn on their laps. Dean was kissing Cas’s cheek while he flipped of Sam, aka the camera.
“He appears to have aged normally, although he is still dashingly handsome, if I might say so. Not the point. Anyway, since he has aged so normally most people don’t believe me, but I’m going to prove it.”, the photo’s faded and the Dean from earlier reappeared.
“I’ve been awake for days now, trying to find all the evidence I could, just to try and convince someone out there, to hear a voice back saying that I am not going crazy.” Dean said, “I am married to an immortal non-human, an angel in the biblical sense, and I need to tell someone.”
He picked up a manila folder, and opened it. He started: “Okay, so the first thing I have is his family. He grew up extremely Christian, or so he says, but I think he’s hiding behind a facade of biblical households to hide the fact that he is an angel himself and therefor witnessed everything that happened within the Bible.”
Dean chuckled: “He’s not even subtle about it. I mean, seriously. His name is also the name of an angel, Castiel the angel of Thursday. And he has eleven siblings, which makes a total of  twelve children, like twelve as in the amount of apostles Jesus had and they also all have biblical names. His brothers are Gabriel, Micheal, Raphael etcetera. He even has a brother named Lucifer that apparently no one talks to anymore, because he defied their father and is now in prison or something. That’s not a good cover story. That’s the Bible retold, but then bad.”
Cas and Dean had discussed what Dean would say about Castiels family beforehand and they had decided that this was enough. No reason to get into more detail about it. This was supposed to be funny and dumb, not revealing and sad.
“What shoots a hole in this, according to Sam is that we have pictures of him from when he was a child.” Dean said and a picture of a toddler Cas with big blue eyes and a small frown already on his face was shown, before Dean went on: “I think that Sam is wrong. If you’re a powerful entity, you can make fake pictures of a baby-you that has never existed. But I will let you draw your own conclusions about that.”
“Coming back to an earlier point,” Dean went on, “his History knowledge. This is also weird, since he knows everything about History, in particular thing about long long ago. Which as he points out is because he studied History. And that’s fair, but it’s weird.”
He rubbed his face again and groaned in frustration: “Ugh, just let me, let me put this into words better.”
“If you studied History, you know History and that’s just how it is. But what you don’t know is suddenly everything about the ancient times, no matter how much you specialized on it, which I know he hasn’t since he teaches History and you need to know more than just one period in order to do that.” Dean said, “We all on the same page?”
There was a silence, like he was waiting for a response. He acted like he got it: “Good, so why- how can he know everything in excruciating detail about that period? And he knows it like he’s been there and he has an abnormal amount of space in his brain for memories.”
A clip played of Cas, Dean behind the camera. They were on vacation, probably, and standing in a church. Dean said: “Can you repeat what you just said, sunshine?”
Cas looked over, saw the camera and shot it a tired look. He rolled his eyes and pointed at a picture of Jesus: “I said that this Jesus isn’t very realistic, because he isn’t smiling. Well, he has a smile, but it’s like this weird serene one. He was young when he was crucified. You really think a twenty-year-old had any patience or chill? I think not. He had a big happy smile,” then hastily, “probably. I think, at least.”
Disheveled Dean reappeared and said: “Tell me that is not fricking suspicious. And that’s just the one I captured on camera. He’s always commenting stuff like that.” his eyes lit up and he snapped his finger as he said: “Like, like he did in the Q&A video we did!”
The clip played of Castiel talking about the Tower of Babel.
“I mean come on. He talked about it like he knew how it had suddenly turned, because he had been there. I know what you’re thinking, it’s a story that gets told to Catholic children. And you’d be right, it is a biblical story. Yet, Mr. History talked about it like it is something that happened, even though it hasn’t been proven.” Dean explained, “And then he tried to cover it up, by saying how it would be an opportunity to find out. Good cover story, angel, but not happening.”
“And don’t get me started on his lack of pop-culture knowledge.” Dean went on, “I mean, I got him a phone. His first phone ever, for his 21st birthday. No one should get their first phone in 2011.”
A picture of Cas came on screen. He was holding up a phone, but it was all wrong. He held in with his pointer finger and thumb, a thumb that was in the middle of the screen, and he looked at it with confusion written all over his face.
“He also knew nothing about movies.” Dean appeared again, “I had to show him everything. And I mean everything. No Disney, no Star Wars, no Lord of the Rings, no Friends, no Indiana Jones, no horror movies, nothing. Almost like he had been away from earth while all of it was made and only popped down recently, which reconnects to my previous point about the specific History knowledge.”
“Another thing is his social skills.” Dean moved on to his last point, “He had no clue how to interact with people when I first met him and when I asked about it he claimed his ‘people skills were rusty’, like he used to have them, but they had faded over time. Which would be impossible, because at that age you either don’t have them or you do, you cannot have forgotten entirely.”
The screen went black again and a list appeared: “So we now have four strange things about him.”
1. Youth and Family
“His youth is filled with weird biblical details that are so accurate or strange that it couldn’t have been a coincidence.”
2. History Knowledge
“Despite his study, this is still weird and suspicious, but I feel like the evidence I showed speaks for itself.”
3. Lack of Pop-culture Knowledge
“This could also be his sheltered upbringing, but he was already out in the real world for two years when I met him, so why he had never encountered any of it is a mystery. With, in my eyes, an easy explanation.”
4. Lack of Social Skills
“Again this could be his upbringing, sure, but even then. If he isn’t lying about his family that is eleven children and parents along with an entire church to communicate with. You still pick up stuff like personal space.”
Dean appeared again and said: “I’ve laid out this evidence to some of my friends, this were their reactions.”
It cut to Sam sitting on a chair, looking like he’d rather be anywhere else. Sam asked: “Do we really have to do this, Dean?”
“Yes,” Deans voice came from behind the camera, “just hear me out, okay. I get that you didn’t want to listen before, but I have evidence now.”
Sam sighed.
It cut again to Sam shaking his head and saying: “I don’t know, why you’re so invested in this. All of this has a rational explanation, you can see that too.”
“But the family thing is weird, right. It’s so suspiciously correct that has to be fake that just can’t be coincidence.” Dean protested.
“Actually,” Sam replied, “humans have a weird sense of perception about coincidence. So much happens at one moment in the world that something strange or usual is bound to happen, we classify that as coincidence, but it’s just statistics, Math. It’s very interest-”
“Yeah, whatever, nerd.” Dean interrupted, “So, you don’t believe me.”
“No, Dean. I don’t.” Sam told him, “Can I go now?”
“Yeah.” Dean sighed, before it cut to Charlie sitting in the same chair.
Dean asked her: “So do you know why you’re here?”
Charlie nodded: “Yes and I am willing to hear you out.”
“You are?” Dean said, excitement seeping into his voice.
Charlie nodded, then it cut to her reading the final notes in the folder. She bit her lip and said: “I don’t know, Dean. Some off this is pretty suspicious, but I wouldn’t call it evidence of Cas being an angel or other immortal. I mean, the church can be weird.”
“But the History thing is definitely suspicious, right? I’m not being crazy about that?” Dean asked
Charlie answered: “Well, it wouldn’t surprise me, if he had developed a special interest in ancient Christian history while growing up and if he used to be a heavy believer then I suspect he must have thought a lot about how Jesus must have been and stuff.”
Dean huffed, but didn’t respond.
There was a shaky video of Ellen saying: “Dean, I have a bar to run, I don’t have time for your bullshit.”
But then Jo was in the chair and she said: “Dean, I love you and all, but I’m not doing this.”
“Please, just hear me out.” Deans voice was tired and it cracked, Jo relented.
In the end she said: “This is all strange, sure. I might have believed a bit of it, if I hadn’t known Cas. I mean, come on. He’s a dork and a teacher. He loves you, Dean. Don’t ruin that over something stupid.”
A sigh was heard.
After that it was Bobby, who was sitting on the chair. He didn’t look all that pleased. Most knew Bobby from Deans series about Baby where he would sometimes help or appear in the background and stories about Deans childhood.
Dean said: “Bobby, you know me, right?”
“I’d hope so, boy. I practically raised you.” Bobby replied.
“Exactly,” Dean said, “so you know, I’m not one to make random claims about this.”
“I do.” Bobby sighed, clearly not liking where this was going.
“Great.” Dean exclaimed happily, “Because I have collected a bunch of evidence and I want your opinion on it.”
It cut to Bobby rubbing his forehead while he read the last bits of evidence. He looked up and said: “I think you’re grasping at straws, right now. There are more logical solutions than this, but you’re ignoring ‘em, because you want to see this.”
Significantly sadder than before Dean responded: “So you don’t believe me either?”
“No, of course not, you idjit.” Bobby replied, “I walked Cas down the isle, I think I know the damn guy. He’s not some immortal. And don’t go bothering Jody about this either, you hear me.”
Then it cut back to the disheveled Dean, who said: “As you can see they still weren’t ready to listen to me. So I turned to my last resort, Gabriel. Castiels older brother.”
Gabriel was lounging in the chair, smirk playing on his lips and lollipop in hand. He smiled: “Dean-o, it this what it’s come to? Crawling to me?”
Dean sighed from behind the camera and said: “It was either you or Michael, you’re the least worst option.”
“Ahw, you flatter me.” Gabriel said with a wink, then he asked: “So, what is this all about?”
Dean answered: “I’m trying to prove that Cas is an angel, or an other sort immortal, but main theory is angel. I figured you were the best bet to get to the truth.”
The moment the word ‘angel’ left Deans lips, Gabriels face fell although he quickly tried to cover it up. He tried to laugh it off: “You’re being ridiculous. Little Cassie is a nerd, sure, but immortal. Sorry, but that’s hysterical. Besides, how else would you explain me, or the other people at the wedding?”
“I don’t know, other angels? Actors? Lot of possibilities. Maybe it was mind control.” Dean replied.
Gabriel laughed and shook his head, but when he looked up his face was completely serious as he said: “Stop searching, Dean. You won’t find anything, just love your husband in peace and live a long and happy life, okay.”
Dean swallowed thickly and shakily said: “Okay.”
Then it cut back to Dean from before, who said: “As you can see, he wasn’t very helpful. Although he did kind of scare me, the guy nearly threatened me, but he also made Cas more suspicious. He’s hiding something, I can feel it.”
“Anyway, none of my outside resources were helpful, so it’s time to look at our subject himself, Cas.” Dean said and the screen warped to a vlog.
It was filmed in such a way that it was obvious that Dean was trying to be stealthy. It showed Castiel doing the dishes, after a second Dean asked: “Why don’t you use the dishwasher, sunshine?”
Cas looked around and shrugged: “I don’t trust it, Dean. Machinery doesn’t seem to like me and I have not come to an agreement with the dishwasher yet, maybe later.”
Dean laughed: “The dishwasher is not a businessman, Cas. Here I’ll load it in.”
Then it changed to the living room, specifically the couch. It was a solid couch, easily a 1000 pounds. Dean yelled: “Caaaaas!”
From the distance came: “What is it, Dean?”, along with footsteps.
“I dropped my phone and accidentally kicked it under the couch. Can you help me?” Dean answered.
Cas looked at the couch and nodded. First he tried to fit his hand under and swipe the phone out from underneath it, but when that didn’t work, he grabbed the underside of the couch and lifted it as he told Dean to grab his phone, which he did.
Dean smirked at him and said: “Wow, Cas, very sexy. Have you been going to the gym lately?”
He only got an eyeroll in return along with a quick kiss, before Cas disappeared.
What the viewers didn’t get to see was the small carjack that had been carefully edited out, along with Sam, who had operated it.
Then it was Dean running up to Cas, yelling: “Smile, angel!”
Castiel turned to him like a deer in headlights and blinked heavily when the flash nearly blinded him. What was peculiar about this moment was the fact that his eyes seemed to glow an intense light blue, almost as if he was illuminated from the inside, which had been an easy edit, but it looked very cool, if Dean was being honest.
After that Dean said: “I showed these clips, along with a few others that are, admittedly, less convincing to my friends.” followed by a quick compilation of Sam, Charlie, Jo and Bobby shaking their heads and telling him he was an idiot or other variations thereof, “As you can see, they were still unconvinced.” Dean finished.
“They were unconvinced, what I have set out to do isn’t achieved. They aren’t listening and they aren’t seeing the truth. I know what I see, I know what Cas is. And they are just blind for the truth.” Dean told the audience, “So, I’m trusting you to open your eyes and see what is out there. Please, look at this and see the truth.”
Then it went to the endcard. Dean waved and said: “That was it for today. I hope you can support me and tell me that I’m not crazy. If you do, comment about it, like this video, share it to get the word out. Maybe subscribe and ring that bell, so you won’t miss out on any updates about it. Bye Hunters, see you on the-”
He was cut of by the slam of a door. He startled and looked over, but before he could get over the shock the lights overhead exploded and the room went dark. You could hear the heavy and angry voice of Castiel, who bellowed: “Dean Winchester, you have not listened to the warning Gabriel gave you. Your time has come.”
Then the video ended.
Dean was grinning as he scrolled through the comments on his latest videos. He was quite proud of it honestly and was very happy with how it had turned out and the reaction of the fans. Cas saw him smiling and asked: “So I take it, it went well.”
Looking up Dean said: “Yeah, you might have to answer some questions tomorrow, if you want those kids to trust you after ‘murdering me’.”
Cas groaned, but couldn’t suppress the smile and fond eyeroll.
Then the phone rang, Dean looked at the screen with surprise, but smiled when he saw who was calling. It was Sam, the picture of him sleeping with a plastic spoon in his mouth lighting up the screen. He picked up: “Heya, Sammy.”
Sam answered: “Dean, come save me.”
“What is it?” Dean asked, serious brother mode instantly activated.
But it was lost with Sams answer: “I know you’re trying to sell the whole ‘I got murdered by my own husband who is an angel’-stick, but you’re fans are worried and mobbing me on Twitter demanding answers.”
Dean laughed and relayed what Sam had said to Cas, who also chuckled. Then Dean turned back and said: “I’ll do something about it.”
“Somehow that’s not very comforting.” Sam said.
“Don’t worry about it, Sammy.”
“That isn’t helping.”
“I said don’t worry about it.”
“Dean? … Dean! … Dean!”
Dean hung up and turned to Cas as he asked: “Would you mind filming me?”
An hour later a video was posted on Deans Twitter and Instagram. It was off Cas walking into the living room, where an unharmed Dean was sat on the couch. Cas said: “Hello, Dean.”
Dean looked his way and smiled: “Hey, angel. What’s up? Why are you filming?”
Cas replied: “Some off your fans were worried about you after your last video, so I’m showing them you’re okay.”
Dean frowned and asked: “Why would they worry about me? It was just a dumb video doing Just Dance, not flattering, but hardly worrisome.”
“Don’t you remember your funny little video about me and some conspiracy?” Castiel asked, way too innocently.
Dean frown deepened and he looked confused and he said: “What are you even talking about?”
“Nothing, it was all just silly. Don’t worry about okay?” Cas answered, still holding onto that innocent voice.
Dean smiled at him and said: “Whatever you say, sunshine.”
Then it was over, needless to say that fans weren’t reassured, neither were the kids at school the next day, when Cas pretended he had no idea what they were talking about and shut them down the moment they tried to show him the video on their phones.
@Deanmustbeprotected posted about it on their Insta and multiple conspiracies were posted on every platform.
Dean and Cas along with everyone they’d gotten involved watched from the sidelines with amusement. Mission accomplished!
Greetings in the matchless Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Topic: VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 07): The Message to Philadelphia: The Church That is Faithful & Alive!
Rhema Word: Revelation 3:8 (NKJV) “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”
Let’s pray. Our Gracious Loving Father, thank You for giving us an opportunity to meditate Your Word today along with Your children who have been called to live a holy life, Father. I commit everyone who are all meditating this message into Your mighty hand Father. Bless them and give them the oneness of Spirit and make their heart as a good land to receive each and every Word which is living and active Father. Thank You Holy Spirit for helping us to understand the in-depth treasure of Your Word and helping us to live a life as per Your Word Lord. We give all the Glory and Honour to You only Father. We pray in the mighty Name of Your beloved Son Jesus Christ. Amen.
The passage in Revelation 1:9-3:22 explains the first vision that Christ gives John. It is a vision of Christ Himself of Christ in His glory and exaltation. It is in this vision that the glorified Christ proclaims His message to the seven churches. But before He speaks to the churches, Christ gives John a glimpse of Himself. Christ wants believers down through the centuries to know who it is that has given these messages to the churches. Christ wants all believers to know that the message to the churches is coming from the Supreme Majesty of the universe, from One who must be heeded, from One who possesses all power and knowledge, from One who can provide and protect, assure and secure, judge and destroy. This is the vision of the Author of Revelation, of the One who has given us this awesome message of Revelation. This is the vision of the Son of Man, the glorified Christ Himself.
We have been meditating the following in Eight Parts since last six weeks.
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 01): The Son of Man, the Glorified Christ!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 02): The Message to Ephesus: The Orthodox Church, But a Church Without Love!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 03): The Message to Smyrna: The Persecuted Church!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 04): The Message to Pergamum: The Corrupted Church That is Married to the World!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 05): The Message to Thyatira: The Compromising or Permissive Church!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 06): The Message to Sardis: The Church with Reputation, But Dying!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 07): The Message to Philadelphia: The Church That is Faithful & Alive!
VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 08): The Message to Laodicea: The Church That is Affluent, But Lukewarm & Half-Committed!
We have meditated the First to Sixth Parts in last six weeks. Let us try to meditate the Seventh Part VISION 01: The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 07): The Message to Philadelphia: The Church That is Faithful & Alive! and understand the following today, with the help of Holy Spirit:
(1) The Recipients:
(2) The Speaker – Jesus Christ:
(3) The Commendation:
(4) The Two Great Hopes:
(5) The Counsel: Christ is Coming Soon; Therefore, Hold On, Hold Fast :
(6) The Promise: To Overcomers:
Have you ever seen a church that is alive and faithful to Christ? A church that focuses upon Jesus Christ? A church that makes Jesus Christ the center of its ministries and activities? A church that focuses upon reaching and growing people for Christ? A church that focuses upon teaching people to love Christ and to love one another more and more? This was the church as Philadelphia. The very word “Philadelphia” means brotherly love or one who loves his brother. Yes, the believers at Philadelphia loved Christ; therefore, they gave their hearts and lives to Christ. They lived like Christ said to live and they carried out the mission of Christ upon earth. The church at Philadelphia was alive and faithful. It represents all the churches down through the ages that are alive and faithful. It shows us exactly what Christ wants a church to be. Note: there is no complaint or warning against this church. Jesus Christ has only praise and exhortation for the church that is alive and faithful.
(1) The Recipients:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things say He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”.
There are the recipients of the letter. The letter is addressed to the minister of the church, but the Lord expects the minister to share it with the church. The church was alive and faithful to Christ, and it was up to the minister to keep the church focused upon the mission of Christ. The minister was the God-appointed leader to keep the church alive and faithful. The church would most likely remain alive and faithful if the minister would (a) live in the Word of God; (b) live on his face in prayer; (c) preach and teach the Word of God; (d) exhort the believers to live for Christ, to study the Word, pray, witness and minister faithfully; (e) lead the church to set up the ministries that would reach the lost, build up the believers, minister to the needy, and reach out to the world by supporting world-wide missions.
If the minister slacked up or failed in any of these, the church would lose some of its focus upon Jesus Christ. It would no longer be as alive or faithful as it should be. But if the minister remained diligent, alive, and faithful himself, the likelihood is that the church would stay alive and faithful to Christ. This is the reason Christ addresses the letter to the minister.
Brief About Philadelphia City: There are five historical facts that seem to have a bearing upon the message to the church:
(i) Philadelphia was founded as a border town to spread Greek culture to surrounding areas. In fact, it was situated right on the borders of Lydia, Mysia, and Phrygia. The church knew exactly what it meant to be missionary minded, to have an open door for the spread of the gospel (Rev. 3:8; Acts 14:27; 1 Cor.16:9; 2 Cor.2:12; Colossians 4:3).
(ii) The name Philadelphia means “brotherly love”. The very name of the church gave the believers a constant reminder: they must love one another if they were going to fulfill their missionary calling.
(iii) Philadelphia knew what it was to live in the midst of insecure surroundings and under constant stress and strain. The city sat over a large earthquake fault. In A.D. 17 a terrifying earthquake hit a huge area. It completely destroyed Sardis and ten other cities. Philadelphia was spared total destruction. But for years the city was hit by unending tremors – each adding its own panic and crumbling walls to the devastation. The experience of having to constantly run in and out for safety terrorized the population. The experience was never forgotten by succeeding generations. The church knew what it was to be given the hope of becoming a “pillar in the temple of God” and the promise to the overcomer that “Never again will he leave it” (v.12).
(iv) Philadelphia, after its destruction by the earthquake, was given aid by the emperor Tiberius for rebuilding. In appreciation the city changed its name to Neocaesarea, the New City of Caesar. The church knew what it was to be given a new name (v.12).
(v) Philadelphia had a Jewish synagogue within its city limits. The Jews claimed to be the only followers of the true God (v.9). They claimed the keys of David, the right to open and to shut the door to God and His kingdom (v.7). The church knew what is was to trust and know Him who alone “is true and who holds the key of David and who alone can open and shut (v.7).
(2) The Speaker – Jesus Christ:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things say He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”.
Yes, there is the speaker, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. What Jesus Christ says about Himself speaks to the heart of the church that is alive and faithful.
(i) Jesus Christ is holy. The word holy is a description of God Himself. Jesus Christ is claiming to have the very same nature as God the Father, to be perfectly holy even as God is perfectly holy. Remember that holiness means to be an apart and different from all other beings completely and totally set apart. Christ is supremely holy. He reaches the summit of being different from all other beings. This means something significant for the church that is alive and faithful. It means they are worshiping and following God Himself by following Christ. By giving their hearts and lives to Christ, they are giving themselves to the sovereign Majesty and supreme Force of the universe, to the most holy God Himself. The church is, therefore, under His care and love. Christ Jesus, the Most Holy God, will look after and take care of the church if the church will just continue to be alive and faithful.
Psalmist says in Psalm 99:9 “Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His holy hill; For the Lord our God is holy.”
Prophet Isaiah says in Isaiah 6:3 “And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 8:46 “Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?”
The Bible says in Acts 4:27,30 “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together.” … “By stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”
Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
The Bible says in Hebrews 4:15; 7:26 “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” … “For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens.”
The Bible says in Revelation 15:4 “Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested.”
(ii) Jesus Christ is the One who is true. The word “true” (alethinos) means the true as opposed to the false, the genuine as opposed to the counterfeit, the real as opposed to the unreal. Jesus Christ is the true, genuine and real God. He is the only living and true God. There is none other. All the other gods worshipped by men are false, counterfeit, and unreal. This, too, means a wonderful thing. God is not far off in outer space someplace, too far off to be known or reached. He is not the shadowy figure that most men imagine Him to be. God is not distant from us. He has not left us in the dark to grope and grasp and to stumble about trying to find Him. God does not hate us; He has not left us in the dark about Himself. God loves us; He has revealed Himself to u. He sent the Lord Jesus Christ to bring the truth to us. Therefore, I worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ we are worshipping the only true and living God. What the faithful church must do is – continue to follow Christ, continue to make Him the focus of all that it does. When the church makes Him the center of all its ministries, activities, and meetings, then the church is following the truth – following Him who is true.
The Bible says in John 1:9,14 “That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.” … “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 6:32; 14:6; 15:1; 18:37 “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.” … “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” … “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.” … “Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause, I was born, and for this cause, I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
Apostle John says in 1 John 2:8 “Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining.”
(iii) Jesus Christ alone is the key of David, the key that “opens, (what) no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open”. What is the key of David? There is an event in the Old Testament that tells us. King Hezekiah had a faithful servant who was named Eliakim. This servant was the personal secretary to king Hezekiah; he was put in complete charge of the king’s affairs. No one could gain entrance into the king’s presence without coming through Eliakim. This servant alone determined who entered the king’s court. God spoke to Isaiah the prophet one day and said the following words in Isaiah 22:22 “The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder; So he shall open, and no one shall shut; and he shall shut, and no one shall open.”
The key of David is the symbol of authority. Jesus Christ alone opens and shuts the door into God’s court and presence. He alone determines who lives in heaven with God the Father. He alone grants entrance into the presence of God. The door into heaven is opened and closed by Him and Him alone. No other person or being has that authority. Jesus Christ alone holds the key to open and shut the door to life eternal. Therefore, the church that focuses upon Jesus Christ can be assured: it shall live forever. When the time comes, Jesus Christ shall open the door of heaven. The church that takes all its ministries, activities, and meetings and makes Jesus Christ the center of the all – that church shall live forever.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 5:26-27 “For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.”
The Bible says in Hebrews 7:25; 8:6; 9:15; 9:24; 12:24 “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” … “But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.” … “And for this reason, He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.” … “To Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.”
Apostle John says in 1 John 2:1-2 “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”
(3) The Commendation:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:8 “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”
There is the commendation. This is the picture of what a church should be, the picture of a church that is alive and faithful. The Lord Jesus Christ commends this church for three things:
(i) The church used the open door of evangelism and missions to reach people for Christ. The church was strategically located:
(a) It was a border town that touched the borders of three other towns: Lydia, Mysia, and Phrygia. Imagine the evangelistic and mission opportunities by being surrounded with three other towns.
(b) It lay on the imperial road of Rome, one of the major roads that passed from the coast and stretched right on to the east into Asia minor. Just think of the multitudes of people who passed through and visited, stayed and conducted business in the city: the businessmen, sales persons, military people, vacationers, tourists, and visiting relatives.
The point is striking: the city was so strategically located that the whole world could have been penetrated with the gospel by spreading out from the church. And note: Christ commends the church for their evangelistic and missionary work. They were reaching out. And Christ knew of their works. He had set an open door before them and they had stepped in and taken advantage of the opportunity. Because they had faithfully reached out to the lost, Christ says that He is not going to let anyone close the door. He is personally going to see that the door to evangelism and missions stays open.
Note one other significant fact: the church had only a little strength. This probably means that they were a small church, small in number and small in resources. This too is striking: imagine being just a small church, yet reaching out to the lost, witnessing and bearing testimony to the salvation and hope of eternal life. Imagine making such an evangelistic and mission thrust that Christ is impressed, impressed so much (a) that He commends the church for it; and (b) that He guarantees that the open door to evangelism and missions will always remain open. He will not allow anyone to close it.
Lesson 01: This is the first mission of the church. The church that is alive and faithful is a church that does just what Jesus Christ did: He reached out to the lost. This is exactly what He said about His own mission in Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Again, this is exactly what He said about the mission of His followers and church in John 20:21 “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
Lesson 02: How many of our churches are strategically located? Many. In fact, most are strategically located. Some sit right in the heart of cities where teeming thousands of people live. Others sit on the main roads of cities, and others on the main roads of country and farm areas. Why then are so many of our churches not reaching out in the thrust of evangelism and missions? Why are so few of the lost being won to Christ? The church that is alive and faithful is a church that uses the open door of evangelism and missions. The believers are a people who witness and do all they can to reach the lost for Christ: (a) they go house to house; (b) they witness to fellow labourers, neighbours, friends and family; (c) they are always looking for opportunities to witness and share Christ.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 28:19-20; Mar 16:15 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” … “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Apostle Peter says in 1 Peter 3:15 “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defence to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”
(ii) The church kept Christ’s Word: that is, they were faithful to the Word of God. They obeyed the Lord Jesus Christ, kept His commandments. Very practically, this means (a) that they studied the Word of God; (b) that they lived the Word of God; and (c) that they proclaimed the Word of God to believers and unbelievers alike.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in John 8:51; 14:15-16; 14:23; 15:10,14 “Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.”… “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.” … “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” … “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” … “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.”
Apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 2:15; 3:16 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” … “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
Apostle Peter says in 1 Peter 2:2-3 “As new-born babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”
(iii) The church confessed Christ; they did not deny the name of Christ. This means more than just a witnessing for Christ. It, of course, does mean witnessing for Christ, but it means much more.
(a) First, to confess Christ means that the church confesses Christ in all that it does. It means that Jesus Christ is made the focus and center (a) of all the lives of the believers; and (b) of all the services, meetings, ministries, programs, and activities of the church.
To confess Christ means that one lives, moves, and has his being in Christ. It means that the church does not focus upon ritual, ceremony, programs, and activities; but the church focuses upon Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is confessed; He is made the focus, the center, the main purpose and attraction of every program and activity.
(b) Second, to confess Christ also means that a person stands fast against opposition and persecution. Some in the world will always persecute true believers. They will ridicule; mock; imprison; abuse; reject; ignore; curse; backbite; attack and kill.
The crowds of the world will do all they can to lead the true believer to give in and join them. But the believer is never to cave in; he is not to deny Christ. Note what Christ says: the church or the believer that is alive and faithful does not deny the name of Christ. The faithful church confesses Christ.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:32-33; Luke 12:8 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” … “Also I say to you, whoever confesses Me before men, him the Son of Man also will confess before the angels of God.”
Apostle John says in 1 John 2:22-23; 4:15 “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son, does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” … “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.”
Lesson; Note how strong a church is that does these three things. The church that is alive and faithful is a church (a) that is evangelistic and mission minded; (b) that keeps the Word of Christ; and (c) that confesses Christ in all that it does, in all of its services, meetings, programs and activities.
(4) The Two Great Hopes:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:9-10 “Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you. Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.”
There is the great hope given to the church that is alive and faithful. Note how descriptive this verse Revelation 3:9 is “Indeed I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie—indeed I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.”
The synagogue of Satan refers to the Jews who say that they follow the true God, but they do not: they reject Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the very One who came into the world to reveal God. Therefore, to reject Jesus Christ is to reject the revelation of God, to reject God Himself. Remember who a true Jew is in the eyes of God:
(a) A true Jew is any person who believes in Jesus Christ as explained by apostle Paul in Romans 4:11 “And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also.”
(b) A true Jew is not a person who claims outward racial descent. A true Jew is a person who is a Jew inwardly, who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul says in Romans 2:28-29 “For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.”
(c) A true Jew is a person who walks in the steps of the faith of Abraham, who walks in a faith that is placed in the Lord Jesus Christ as explained by apostle Paul in Romans 4:12 “And the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised.”
(d) A true Jew is NOT a person of an earthly race, but a true Jew is a person who has the same faith that Abraham had. Apostle Paul says in Romans 9:6-9 “But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect. For they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham; but, “In Isaac your seed shall be called.” That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed. For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son.”
(e) The true Israel is the church. Apostle Paul says in Galatians 6:16 “And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God [the church, believers].”
The point is striking: to God a Jew is not some earthly race. A Jew is a person who truly believes God, believes all the promises of God including the promise of the Messiah. A true Jew is a person who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. Remember: God Himself gave birth to the Jewish race. He raised up the Jews to be His followers and witnesses to the human race. Therefore, to God the true Jew is a person from any earthly nation who follows and bears witness to Him.
The point is this: there were Jews in Philadelphia who were persecuting the believers. They were claiming to be Jews, the chosen people, the followers of God, but they were not. They rejected the Son of God, the very One who came to reveal God. Therefore, they were lying. They were an assembly of Satan, not of the only living and true God.
Now, with this as background, note the great hope given to the church that is alive and faithful. The hope is twofold:
(i) Believers will be vindicated before all their persecutors. The persecutors of the church will either be saved or judged. Note that the Jews are going to come and fall down at the feet of the church:
(a) Believers will be vindicated because some of their persecutors will be saved (v.9). Note the verse: the Jews are going to come and worship with believers. This points toward the salvation of Israel in the end time. Note this closely, for, it is the picture painted by Scripture.
In the Old Testament Israel is seen as the true follower of God and the other peoples of the world are seen coming to Israel and worshipping the God of Israel.
God spoke through prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 45:14; 49:23; 60:14 “Thus says the Lord: “The labour of Egypt and merchandise of Cush and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over to you, and they shall be yours; They shall walk behind you, They shall come over in chains; and they shall bow down to you. They will make supplication to you, saying, ‘Surely God is in you, and there is no other; there is no other God.’ ” … “Kings shall be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers; They shall bow down to you with their faces to the earth, and lick up the dust of your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord, for they shall not be ashamed who wait for Me.” … “Also the sons of those who afflicted you shall come bowing to you, and all those who despised you shall fall prostrate at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you The City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel.”
God again spoke through prophet Ezekiel in Ezekiel 36:23; 37:28 “And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord,” says the Lord God, “when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.” … “The nations also will know that I, the Lord, sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.”
In the New Testament the picture is reversed, and the Jews are seen coming to the church and worshipping with the church. This means that the Jews worship the Lord Jesus Christ.
Apostle Paul says in Romans 9:25-26 “ As He says also in Hosea: “I will call them My people, who were not My people, and her beloved, who was not beloved.” “And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not My people,’ There they shall be called sons of the living God.”
Lesson: The scene will be glorious: Israel (the Jews) worshipping the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, right along with Gentile believers. This is the promise of the Lord to the church of Philadelphia.
Note this: the promise applies to all churches that are alive and faithful. Some of the persecutors will believe and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour. They will be won to Christ and worship right along with the believers whom they originally persecuted. This is a great promise made to the church that is faithful and alive. The task of the church is to continue to be faithful to Christ, bearing testimony and witness to Him.
Psalmist David says in Psalm 22:27-28 “All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nation shall worship before You. For the kingdom is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations.”
(b) Believers shall also be vindicated before all the persecutors who reject Jesus Christ. Scripture clearly states that every knee shall bow before the feet of the Lord and confess Him to be Lord.
Apostle Paul says in Romans 14:11; Philippians 2:9-11 “For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” … “Therefore, God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
(ii) Believers will experience a great deliverance. They will be delivered from the hour of trial that is coming upon the earth. This refers to the great distress or the great tribulation that is coming upon the earth in the end time, a period of trial that will far exceed any trial the world has ever known. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself said in Matthew 24:21 “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.”
The great tribulation will involve two terrible forces falling upon the earth:
(a) There will be the persecution by the antichrist. The Bible says in Revelation 13:7-8 “It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”
(b) There will be the awful judgement of God against all unbelievers who reject His Son Jesus Christ. Jude says in Jude 1:14-15 “Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousand of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
The Bible says in Revelation 19:1-3 “After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honour and power belong to the Lord our God! For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.” Again they said, “Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!”
Note that no believer needs ever fear any trial, not even the trial of martyrdom. Jesus Christ says that He will deliver the believer from all trials. Even when hated and martyred, the believer will be delivered. Physical death will have no effect upon the believer. The believer will be delivered into the very presence of God quicker than the eye can blink. The believer will never taste the torment of death. Our Lord Jesus Christ was very specific about this and said in Luke 21:16-19 “You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But not a hair of your head shall be lost. By your patience possess your souls.”
Note also that God promises to protect those believers who have to go through the tribulation. They will not suffer the judgements that God casts upon the earth. They will be protected somewhat like Israel was during the plagues that fell upon Egypt. The judgements of God will fall only upon the unbelievers. This is clearly stated in Revelation 9:4 “They were commanded not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.”
The point is striking: the hope of the believer is glorious. Jesus Christ will always deliver the believer and the church that is alive and faithful.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Apostle Paul says in Romans 16:20; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 2 Timothy 1:12; 4:8 “And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.” … “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” … “For this reason, I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” … “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
(5) The Counsel: Christ is Coming Soon; Therefore, Hold On, Hold Fast :
The Bible says in Revelation 3:11 “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.”
Yes, there is the counsel. Jesus Christ declares time and again that He is returning to earth. Note the word “soon”. Jesus Christ is coming soon. Scripture declares this time and again.
The Bible says in Hebrews 10:37; Revelation 3:11; 22:7 “For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry.” … “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.” … “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”
The point is this: Since Christ is coming and coming soon, the faithful church must do something. It must hold on (a) to its evangelistic and missionary zeal; (b) to the Word of God; and (c) to confessing and living for Christ and never rejecting Him.
Note WHY? Because the church and its believers could lose their crown. This is the clear warning of Scripture. Believers must hold on, must hold on. They can lose their crowns if they reject Christ and commit apostasy.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said in Matthew 24:13; 25:13; Luke 12:37 “But he who endures to the end shall be saved.” … “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” … “Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.”
The Bible says in Revelation 2:10; 16:5 “Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” … “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”
(6) The Promise: To Overcomers:
The Bible says in Revelation 3:12-13 “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
There are the promises to the overcomer. The churches and believers who remain alive and faithful to Christ have five wonderful promises. They will receive five glorious things:
(i) They will be made a pillar in the temple of God. This means that they will become a permanent part of God’s house, of the eternal worship and service of heaven. And they will be a vital part, a pillar. The pillar is a symbol of strength; support; permanence; durability, immortality and a monument.
Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19-20; 2 Corinthians 6;16; Ephesians 2:20-22 “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”… “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” … “And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” … “Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”
(ii) They will receive security: they will never again have to go in or out of the city in order to be safe. They will be free from this sinful and corruptible world, free to live in heaven with God and Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. And they shall be perfected forever and ever.
Apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 1:12; 4:8 “For this reason, I also suffer these things; nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.” … “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
(iii) They will receive God’s name. This is a symbol of possession and belonging. The believer will belong to God in an absolute and perfect sense. Others can lay claim to our lives while upon the earth. They can lay claim upon our time and energy, and some can even enslave us. But not in heaven. The name of God will be written upon us, and we will be marked forever as belonging to God. We will belong to Him totally and absolutely. Neither man nor satan will ever again be able to touch or mark us.
The Bible says in Isaiah 56:5; 62:2; 65:15 “Even to them I will give in My house and within My walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.” … “The Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will name.” … “You shall leave your name as a curse to My chosen; for the Lord God will slay you, and call His servants by another name.”
The Bible says in Revelation 3:12 “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.”
(iv) They will receive the name of the city of God, the new Jerusalem. They will become the citizens of the new Jerusalem, of the capital of the new heavens and earth.
The Bible says 2 Peter 3:10-13 “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”
The Bible says in Revelation 21:1-5 “Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
(v) They will receive the Lord’s new name. What will this new name be? No one knows but God Himself, and He has not yet revealed it.
The Bible says in Revelation 19:12 “His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.”
This much we know: when Christ comes in all His majesty and glory and conquers all, we shall be marked as His servants and share in His glorious triumph. He will gain the victory for us, the victory over all enemies including the most terrible enemy of all – death and hell.
The Bible says in Revelation 3:21; 21:4 “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” … “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Let us introspect ourselves.
Shall we thank our God for making us to understand the fact that the church would remain alive and faithful if the minister would live in the Word of God and prayer, preach and teach the Word of God and exhort the believers to live for Christ?
Shall we thank our God for making us to understand the fact that the church that takes all its ministries, activities, and meetings and makes Jesus Christ the center of the all – that church shall live forever?
Shall we take advantage of the opportunity and use the open door of evangelism and missions to reach people for Christ?
Shall we make sure that our churches where we are placed do just what Jesus Christ did – reaching out to the lost?
Shall we make sure that our churches where we are placed are focussing on our Lord Jesus Christ and making Him as the center of all the lives of the believers and of al the services, meetings, ministries, programs and activities?
Shall we make sure that our churches where we are placed are always confessing our Lord Jesus Christ and stand fast against opposition and persecution?
Shall we hold on to our evangelistic and missionary zeal, hold on the Word of God and hold on to confessing and living for Christ and never rejecting Him so that we are not losing our crowns when our Lord Jesus Christ comes?
Shall we thank our Lord Jesus Christ for His promises to the overcomers making them pillars in His temple, freeing them from this sinful and corruptible world and making them to live in heaven with God and Father and the Lord Jesus Christ forever and ever?
Shall we thank our Lord Jesus Christ for His promises to the overcomers in writing the name of God upon us, making citizens of new Jerusalem and giving us His new name?
Let us Pray: Our Heavenly Gracious Father, we thank You for helping us to understand about “The Messages of the Glorified Christ to the Seven Churches (Part 07): The Message to Philadelphia: The Church That is Faithful & Alive, today, Father. Note
As I am getting famous for these, I would like them all (the get to know my character asks) for Henry, please and thank you :)
@izayoichan thank you so much for the ask. I have put the answers under the cut.
01.  What does your character’s name mean? Did you pick it for the symbolism, or did you just like the way it sounded?
In all honesty, I named Henry after Henry Tilney from Northanger Abbey. It’s my favourite Jane Austen novel. 💖
02.  What is one of your character’s biggest insecurities? Are they able to hide it easily or can others easily exploit this weakness?
Well, I asked Henry and he responded with “life.”
Henry was diagnosed with autism in his early 20s which means that he’s had to work through a lot of old feelings of not being brave enough or “normal”.
Basically his biggest insecurity is not living up to others expectations.
03.  What would be their favourite physical trait about themselves?
Henry knows he has pretty eyes. 👀
04.  What are their favourite traits about their lover? (one psychological and one physical)
Everything! He loves Alex’s charisma, wit, intelligence, arrogance, cockiness, insecurities, bravery – he loves the whole package!
As for physical, again, everything! He loves his large thin mouth, smirk, menacing eyes, his dangly frame, small bottom – warts, all, everything!
05.  Are they sexually confident or more of the shy type?
He’s only been sexual with Alex and with him… well, they both boost the other’s confidence.
06.  Do they have any hobbies that their lover finds unusual, odd, or otherwise annoying?
1.     Henry and his companionship with his dog, Whisper. Alex can’t stand the smelly creature. Why can’t dogs be more like cats?
2.     Henry’s singing! Alex says he’s “tone deaf” and he’s not as partial to Disney songs on repeat.
Also Alex isn’t quite as passionate about Harry Potter as Henry is so after the fourth hour of Henry’s monologue about mandrakes and their use in medicine, he’s ready to stick his own head in mandrake pot.
07.  Is there a catchphrase or sound that they tend to make a lot (likely without being aware of it)?
Uhm - there was even a shirt sold in support of Henry and his favourite word.
08.  What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it?
His awkwardness in interactions and he doesn’t always pick up on inferences so he can miss what people are trying to tell him unless they tell him directly. Although he is aware that he has problems in these areas, he is unaware of how or when he’s missing the social cues.
09.  Do they have a favorite season? What about a favorite holiday?
Henry loves autumn. His favourite holiday is Christmas because of presents and chocolate.
10.  Is your character more feminine or masculine?
Masculine.
11.  What is something that would make your character fly into a rage?
Lying. Henry hates it when people lie.
12.  Is there some particular talent, skill, or attribute that they simply could not give up?
Henry keeps a journal of poems he writes and he only shares them with Alex who thinks the poems are beautiful and that Henry’s very talented.
13.  What are your character’s sleeping habits? Heavy or light sleeper? Blanket stealer? One that always rolls onto the floor? Pushes their lover onto the floor? Sleep talker or walker?
Henry’s a light sleeper. He’s also a blanket stealer and likes to wrap himself up like a raccoon. He also wriggles, but so does Alex.
14.  Do they live alone or with family? How do they feel about their family/roommates?
Henry lives with his husband and three daughters, Gema, Marie and Genevieve. He’s very happy.
15.  Is there a certain person in this world that they cannot stand? The very mention of this person’s name makes them tremble with anger or fear.
The Grim Reaper. The very mention makes him shudder.
16.  Is your character the athletic type or more of a couch potato? What are some sports/games that they like?
If it were up to Henry, he would definitely be a couch potato, but Alex keeps him going to the gym. In high school Henry was a member of the basketball team and he still practices shots in the palace indoor court.
17.  Does your character have dreams of getting married and/or having children?
Oh he dreamt alright. He had a teenage fantasy of marrying Alex and having his children (biologically). The funny thing is, it happened.
18.  What kind of home would they want to live in? Where would they place this abode?
They have their dream Lakehouse thanks to @forgotten-pixels. <3 It’s situated in Brindleton Bay.
19.  Would your character be the kind to get into fights? (physical or verbal) Would they be a good fighter or cave in rather easily?
Although Henry is a good street fighter, he hates getting into fights.
20.  Does your character like animals? What are some of their favourite animals? Would they want pets? What about mythological creatures?
Henry loves animals, particularly dogs. Mythical creatures? Unicorns. In fact in Henry’s head there’s no such thing as myth because everything magical is real. Ask his mum who’s a Disney character!
21.  What is one of your character’s biggest fears? How would they react when dealing with this fear?
Henry’s very afraid of being responsible for the future. He struggles with unhelpful thoughts that involve various predictions that he fears might come true if he thinks about them too much. Thankfully he’s getting therapy for his OCD.
22.  What kind of tattoos, piercings, birthmarks, freckles, and other such unique physical features do they have?
Henry sometimes wears gold earrings, but his most noticeable feature are his big beautiful eyes that are a staple in his family.
23.  What is your character like when it comes to school? What subjects are they good/bad at? Do they get in trouble a lot or are well behaved?
His favourite subjects are biology and Japanese.
Maths, he has a love-hate relationship with. He was crap at the subject in school, but came into his own at university.
Drama would be his least favourite for he has stage fright and selective mutism.
24.  In their own words, how would your character describe what their lover is like?
“He makes me feel normal.”
25.  Is there something traumatic from your character’s past that greatly affects them even to this day?
Do you want a list?
26.  What is their lover like sexually? How do they feel about their lover’s quirks, needs, etc?
Henry?
Henry: Really good.
And?
Henry: Yeah.
27.  If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it?
He accidently comes face-to-face with a cop and… well that’s it really.
28.  If your character became a celebrity, what would they be famous for?
Being the Duke of Windenburg
29.  What is one of the most courageous things your character has ever done for a loved one?
Married him.
30.  When it comes to the arts (music, film, theatre, etc), what does your character like?
Nothing. In fact Henry’s response is “help!”
31.  Would your character be the kind capable of killing? Would they enjoy killing or only use it when necessary or, perhaps, refuse to kill no matter what?
He’s capable of letting Alex do the killing.
32.  If your character’s lover offered to take them out on a dream date, what would they want to do?
Go to Disneyland!
33.  If your character wanted to be alone, where would they go?
His bedroom or if it were school, the library.
34.  Does your character have favourite foods? (breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks, etc)
Chicken burger!
35.  Is your character afraid of death? If they got to choose how to die, how would they want to go?
Yes. Very afraid of Death. Doesn’t like him.
If he could choose, he would like to die peacefully in his sleep next to Alex.
36.  Does your character have any medical conditions? Are they serious or minor? Do they affect their day to day life?
Henry has autism, OCD, Social Anxiety and GAD. His anxiety disorders are pretty severe but he’s managing them.
His conditions affect every aspect of his life, but he has learnt to cope and is able to live a reasonably happy life with his husband. Alex has been a massive help in building Henry’s confidence and showing him that there are people who appreciate and understand him.
37.  What are some of your character’s pet peeves? What are some things that annoy them or disgust them?
Henry really doesn’t like “weird” food. Basically anything that looks too healthy or gourmet. In other words, Alex can’t get too adventurous with him.
38.  What kind of weather does your character like? Cloudy skies, rainy days, sunshine, etc?
Henry likes days that are slightly overcast. Means he can wear his hoodie comfortably, but doesn’t want to deal with the rain.
39.  When people look at your character, is there some assumption they might make about them just by appearance? Is that assumption correct?
When people first meet Henry, they tend to make the following assumptions:
Henry is slow
This is because he doesn’t react as fast as the majority. He isn’t slow, however. He’s likely processing or struggling to speak because of his selective mutism or social anxiety.
Henry is rude
This might be because Henry doesn’t always respond when someone greets him. This can be because he hasn’t heard them or is still processing the greeting.
Henry is pathetic
Henry’s resting face looks like a “wet weekend” which can make him look pathetic and miserable. However Alex thinks he’s perfect and that’s all that matters to Henry.
Henry is a wimp
Henry struggles with sensory processing which means that certain textures and sounds triggers meltdowns and shutdowns. To an average stranger or acquaintance, this might appear like Henry’s being “precious” and “cowardly” when in fact he’s in a lot of pain.
Henry is selfish
When a stranger sparks up a conversation with Henry, he may not respond and if he does he will likely reply with “yeah” “no” or “uhm”.
This may create the assumption that he doesn’t care that the other is making an effort in the conversation while he isn’t.
In reality, he’s actually uncomfortable because the person is new and he can’t think of what to say.
Also sometimes Henry is more comfortable listening than talking and it may take a while for someone to get used to that when they’re expecting a “give” and “take” conversation.
Alex on the other hand loves talking so he doesn’t mind.
40. Does your OC have any guilty pleasures they enjoy? Hobbies, past times, music, etc that they wouldn’t want known by others?
Henry keeps a journal that he doesn’t want anyone to know about.
40.  Does your character’s family affect your character in any way?
Oh yes. Henry was born into a family of assassins. In many ways, his decision to marry the king of Simsland was his escape from that life.
41.  Is there anything in your character’s past that they regret, haunts them, or they wish they could change?
Henry has many regrets, but his biggest regret is dropping his Pooh Bear teddy in the river when he was three.
42.  Does your character have a switch that changes aspects of their personality whether they are around friends, family, etc. Is there someone who gets to see their true self?
When around people he doesn’t know very well, Henry can appear shy and unresponsive. He can appear the same way if there are more than five people in the room. However, around his closest friends and family, Henry can be very animated especially if allowed to discuss his favourite topics.
43.  Is there a particular event that would emotionally devastate your character?
Alex dying. That would be Henry’s worst nightmare. That and waking up to discover he’s lactose intolerant.
44.  Is your character the kind to hide their true emotions or do they wear their heart on their sleeve?
Henry finds it difficult to express and understand his emotions.
45.  What is some random affectionate thing that your character always does to their lover?
Henry loves to give Alex the Hug of Death which means he holds Alex as close and as tightly as he can. It’s all or nothing with Henry. XD
46.  Is your character outgoing? Would they be the leader of the friend group, or the quiet one that gets dragged along?
He’s the quiet one that gets dragged along. But he’s stubborn. Very stubborn. If Henry really doesn’t want to do something, he won’t do it.
47.  Is there anything in particular that would ignite your character’s jealousy? Or does your character not get envious?
The only time he’s ever really been jealous was when Alex was dating Rashida.
48.  What is something that your character has nightmares about? Are these frequent? Do they heavily affect your character’s mood?
There is one recurring nightmare that Henry has of finding himself on the school stage about to deliver a monologue he hasn’t prepared. He wakes up in hot sweats.
49.  If your character confessed love to their crush, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc, what would they say?
“Uhm, This is my favourite edition of Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone. It’s yours now.”
