Iron Man moved from Tales of Suspense and was granted his own title with cover date of May, 1968. In the first issue, he found himself fighting against three Iron Men. The issue also featured S.H.I.E.L.D., the Maggia, and A.I.M. The issue introduced Mordius and revealed lady M's name was Whitney Frost. Mordius was created by Archie Goodwin and Gene Colan. The issue also had a back up story giving a brief retelling of Iron Man's origin from Tales of Suspense 39#.
