We will also explore the significance of unlisted shares in the stock market and how PharmaEasy's unlisted shares have performed over time. So sit back, relax, and join us on this exciting ride as we unravel PharmaEasy's success story!
History and Growth of the Company
PharmaEasy, a leading healthcare technology platform in India, has an impressive history and a remarkable journey of growth. Founded in 2015 by Dharmil Sheth, Dr. Dhaval Shah, and Hardik Dedhia, the company started with a vision to make healthcare accessible and affordable for all. In its early years, PharmaEasy focused on providing online medicine delivery services to customers across Mumbai. With its user-friendly app and efficient delivery network, the company quickly gained traction and expanded its operations to other cities. As time went on, PharmaEasy diversified its offerings by partnering with local pharmacies to provide diagnostic tests as well as consultations with doctors through telemedicine. This move not only increased convenience for users but also positioned PharmaEasy as a one-stop solution for all their healthcare needs. The year 2020 was particularly significant for PharmaEasy as it witnessed unprecedented growth amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The demand for online healthcare services skyrocketed during this period, and PharmaEasy emerged as a lifeline for many patients who were unable or reluctant to visit physical stores. To further strengthen its position in the market, PharmaEasy went on an acquisition spree. It acquired Medlife - another prominent player in the e-pharmacy space - thereby expanding its customer base exponentially. Today, after several rounds of funding and strategic partnerships with major investors like API Holdings (parent company), CDPQ (Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec), TPG Growth among others; Pharmeasy has become one of India's largest digital health platforms serving millions of customers nationwide. With such rapid growth over the years fueled by innovation and customer-centricity at its core; it comes as no surprise that PharmaEasy's unlisted shares have become highly sought after by investors looking to capitalize on the success story that continues unfolding before our eyes.
Unlisted Shares and Their Importance in the Stock Market
Unlisted shares play a significant role in the stock market, offering investors unique opportunities and potential for high returns. Unlike listed shares that are traded on exchanges, unlisted shares belong to companies that have not yet gone public or chosen to be listed. One of the key advantages of investing in unlisted shares is the potential for early entry into promising companies. Investors who can identify these opportunities early on may benefit from substantial gains once the company goes public. Unlisted shares also provide diversification benefits as they often represent companies from various sectors and industries. Moreover, unlisted shares allow investors to participate in pre-IPO rounds, enabling them to invest at a lower valuation before the company's value potentially increases upon listing. This can result in higher returns compared to those who invest only after an IPO. Additionally, investing in unlisted shares allows individuals to support innovative startups and contribute directly to their growth story. By providing capital during their early stages, investors help fuel innovation and entrepreneurial endeavors. However, it is important to note that investing in unlisted shares comes with its own set of risks. These investments tend to be illiquid since there is no established market for trading them like listed stocks. Additionally, information about these companies may be limited or difficult to obtain compared to publicly listed firms. While investing in unlisted shares offers unique opportunities for high returns and supporting promising businesses' growth journey; it requires careful evaluation of the risks involved alongside thorough research and due diligence before making any investment decisions
PharmaEasy's Unlisted Shares and their Performance
One of the key indicators of a company's success is how its shares perform in the stock market. In the case of PharmaEasy, its unlisted shares have been attracting significant attention. These unlisted shares are traded privately among investors, providing an opportunity to own a stake in the company before it goes public. The performance of PharmaEasy's unlisted shares has been nothing short of impressive. Investors who had the foresight to invest in these shares early on have reaped substantial returns. As more people become aware of PharmaEasy's growth potential, demand for its unlisted shares continues to rise. What sets PharmaEasy apart is its innovative approach to healthcare delivery. With a robust digital platform that connects patients with pharmacies and diagnostic centers, they have revolutionized how people access medical services. This unique business model has contributed to their rapid growth and increasing valuation. Investing in PharmaEasy's unlisted shares not only provides an opportunity for financial gains but also allows investors to support a company that is making a positive impact on society. By investing in this promising healthcare tech start-up, individuals can align their investment goals with their values. As more investors recognize the potential value of owning PharmaEasy's unlisted shares, it further solidifies the company as an attractive investment option within the pharmaceutical industry. The growing interest from both institutional and retail investors speaks volumes about confidence in PharmaEasy's prospects. In conclusion (not part of my answer), PharMaesy has established itself as one of India’s leading online pharmacy platforms with tremendous growth potential ahead. Its performance in terms of revenue generation and customer acquisition has attracted investor interest, resulting in strong demand for its unlisted shares. As PharMaesy continues expanding into new markets and diversifying its offerings through strategic partnerships, it will likely continue demonstrating strong performance across various metrics, making it an enticing prospect for those interested i the Indian e-commerce sector.
Future Plans and Expansion for PharmaEasy
PharmaEasy, the leading online pharmacy platform in India, has achieved remarkable success since its inception. With a strong customer base and partnerships with top pharmaceutical companies, the company is now looking towards expanding its services and reaching even greater heights. One of PharmaEasy's key plans is to enhance its product offerings. The company aims to provide a wider range of healthcare products including medical devices, personal care items, wellness supplements, and more. By diversifying their offerings, PharmaEasy aims to become a one-stop solution for all healthcare needs. Additionally, PharmaEasy is focused on expanding its reach to smaller towns and rural areas across India. The company recognizes the need for affordable and accessible healthcare options in these regions and seeks to bridge this gap by providing doorstep delivery of medications. This expansion will not only benefit underserved communities but also contribute significantly to the company's growth. Another crucial aspect of PharmaEasy's plans is technological innovation. The company aims to leverage cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms to improve user experience on their platform. By investing in technology-driven solutions like predictive analysis for inventory management or personalized recommendations based on user data, Pharmeasy strives to offer seamless experiences that meet individual customer needs. Furthermore, international expansion is also part of PharmaEasy's growth strategy. As they continue to dominate the Indian market, they are exploring opportunities in neighboring countries where there may be similar demand for convenient medication delivery services.
Conclusion
PharmaEasy's growth story is truly remarkable, and its unlisted shares have played a significant role in reflecting the company's success. As part of API Holdings pharmeasy has established itself as a leading player in the healthcare industry by providing convenient access to medicines and other healthcare products. Through strategic partnerships, innovative technologies, and customer-centric approaches, PharmaEasy has experienced rapid expansion and impressive revenue growth. Its commitment to delivering quality service has earned it a loyal customer base and placed it at the forefront of India's e-pharmacy market. The performance of PharmaEasy's unlisted shares further reinforces its position as an attractive investment opportunity. With increasing investor interest in digital health platforms like PharmaEasy, these unlisted shares have become highly sought after. Looking ahead, PharmaEasy shows no signs of slowing down. The company has ambitious plans for future growth and aims to expand its services across more cities in India while also exploring opportunities beyond national borders. By continuously enhancing their offerings and leveraging technology advancements, they are well-positioned to seize new opportunities in the evolving healthcare landscape.

the good part of a fresh expac launch: stumbling thru everything for the first time along with everybody else; the chaos of learning new metas and new events where no one else knows wtf to do either; discovering something and getting to answer questions about it in map chat like a learnéd old sage dispensing arcane wisdom, which is both fun and thematically appropriate
the bad part of a fresh expac launch: no guides yet 🫠

Treat anything on Discord as media that will be lost
Do not use Discord to host your files. Do not rely on Discord to preserve your text. DO NOT RELY ON DISCORD FOR ANY KIND OF PRESERVATION OR HOSTING!!
It CAN be lost, it WILL be lost! You must consider Discord as a part of the Core Internet, controlled by one company that hosts the servers.
I thought it was impressive at first that it replaced IRC, but now I am horrified. If the company behind Discord went under today, how many friends would you lose?
How many relationships? How much writing?
You may think this won't happen, but I remember when AIM went down and along with it, entire novels worth of interaction with my oldest friend.
IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU. IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. NO COMPANY IS INFALLIBLE.
Back up your files! Download anything you've saved to Discord NOW, before the API changes go into effect! And DO NOT RELY ON THEM FOR HOLDING IMPORTANT FILES!

AI and Tumblr
In the event of any kind of AI Art API is to be trained on this platform I do not give permission for my art to be sampled or used to train AI without financial compensation, artists hold the copyright to our art and any intentional mimicry or sampling of my art by an artificial intelligence is infringing on an artist's rights to their creations.
We as artists will not take this grim proposal between Tumblr and Midjourney laying down, this was the last safe heaven for a lot of us and you are now holding knives to us entirely to solve your financial woes instead of offering meaningful solutions. You are going to bleed your community of all trust and all revenue you still eek out of us. Your ways have changed from one of a community built around passion for fandom and the creative mind to one of greed and exclusion. You have been showing true colors and they are ugly, they are sickening, and they will kill your platform. If this deal goes through, may your platform die slow and painfully, may you watch your most loyal of whales walk away and leave you drying out in the hot pavement that is bankruptcy.

finding dead honeybees on the ground is pretty common around here, but I thought this one looked a bit big and with a large head, so I stopped to take a look and found something cool. while it was a honeybee Apis mellifera, it was a male drone and not a worker!
drones usually hang around the hive doing nothing, and get fed by workers since they don’t leave home to forage and can’t physically feed themselves. in fall, once bees have stopped mating and producing new reproductives, workers chase the drones out to lessen the strain on the hive’s honey reserve. the evicted drones soon die of exposure or starvation, and I assume that’s why I found him belly-up on the sidewalk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he’s a cute little chap, with thicker woolly fur, longer legs, and what seem to be slightly broader wings than a worker’s. most prominently though he’s got massive eyes, which bulge and meet at the top of his head. these are all adaptations to finding, chasing, and getting hold of a queen on her nuptial flight.
I’ll pin the little man and memorialize him forever. he’s the first drone I’ve ever seen!

Wild theory, hold on.
(Please do not take any of my theories to Neil himself! Don't do it!)
I've already hypothesized that Crowley and Aziraphale have been working on a plan since Armaggedidn't in season 1. Here's where I go off the rails a little bit. Come along.
Saraqael is part of the plan. She's in on it.
I have only hints and suspicions, not too much for Clues, but hear me out.
In this post, we see a weird movement between buildings behind Shax. Almost like . . . a person in a floating wheelchair coming around the corner? And Crowley is in his spy turtleneck. He's doing something spyish. Meeting an angel he's not supposed to have a connection to, perhaps? About something that maybe interests both of them? Like, not having a second end of the world?
And in this post, we see that Saraqael has opened a spy porthole onto the book shop -- but the picture in the apy porthole is in 2019.
I do not think for a moment that tiny, weenie half-a-miracle-each accidentally blew up into a 25 lazarii miracle. I think someone else at around the same time did a huge miracle, someone powerful, someone who no one is supposed to know about -- or at least, doing something no one is supposed to know about -- and Saraqael hid it the best she could.
Show the arc angels the book shop when Adam reset it. You know, after it burned in 2019. That would be some crazy big miracle energy.
Then go to Earth with the arc angels and nudge Aziraphale into taking responsibility for the miracle. He's good at lying to them, after all, he can come up with something quick. And who is it that says, "Don't tell me you did it?" Why, sarcastic Saraqael. Translation, "tell them you did it, or we're screwed." And Aziraphale jumps right in and says yes, I did that.
Then send someone who won't give back good reports to verify the miracle. Saraqael, why would you send Muriel? Muriel is so sweet and naive, she won't come up with anything she shouldn't.
Then when Crowley is searching around in Heaven, who does he run into but his (doesn't exist) contact? And she tries to give him a reason to recognize her, they worked on the Horsehead nebula together. And he laughs and says, I meet a lot of people. He doesn't need her cover story, he'll just play dumb. She kind of snorts and shakes her head, she tried to give him an out but he took his own way. Headstrong demon.
When the Metatron shows up, who recognizes him? No one but Crowley and Saraqael. Could be because they just watched the trial, could be because they've been actively working together against him for years now. Hard to say. Hard to say. I honestly didn't recognize him in a full human form for a hot minute, it's not like it's impossible to imagine no one would know him. But those two do. Feels important to me.
I don't know if I'm right, but I'm suspicious now. What are they hiding? Who was doing a big miracle that needed covering up? Whatever was the miracle for?
Also, this. More evidence. They are up to something.

okay hold on looking at how the translation things work for both, i actually have a little faith in the qsmp one. it's definitely not google's translation api, which means it's probably a custom api or a paid api. plus it has a delay in translation, meaning it logs what's said in the original language and then it translates, which is a much more reliable way of translation. it'll still probably get things wrong but it's definitely not a shitty translation api
not to say i don't have my gripes with this, but it looks like proper implementation and an actually good api use so i'll give it a little win. still probably gonna fuck up on dialects though

With the Reddit API change about to take effect, I want to mention a few things that I've seen that are likely to change or go away.
First of all, there's multiple bot accounts used for moderation, user tools, or plain fun. Everyone here loves haiku-bot. Reddit has u/haikusbot which does the same thing. The API change means it won't work anymore. There's also u/RemindMeBot which you can ping to set reminders. One useful bot due to repost karma-farmers always being an issue is u/RepostSleuthBot which can scan Reddit to see if a post has previously been uploaded. There's also u/SaveVideo which can create downloaded video files of posts. So the API changes mean losing a lot of user tools.
Then there's site specific bots like u/Roboragi which posts links to anime/manga sites for people. r/lotrmemes is filled with tons of bots of various lotr characters (and Robert Baratheon) and the bots will have full conversations in the comments. So the API changes means an end to a piece of some subreddits' culture.
And finally there's u/automoderator. This is a major tool used by mods to manage the subs. u/automoderator is used across multiple subreddits and has various functions per sub. One simple task is to check if a poster has a certain minimum karma, thus preventing spammers from casually brigading a subreddit. It can also auto ban users who post to certain subreddits which keeps out certain political views (or maybe two subreddits are just having silly wars with each other). Also, it can auto-comment important messages to posts.
So this change is going to destroy a lot of the internal charm of the site and it will also open the flood gates to bots, scammers, and all sorts of horrible things that mods can only barely hold back, especially on the huge subs, political subs, and any minority support subs.

It's almost valentine's day and I'm a sucker for valentine's day cliches in anime. So, how would each of your boys react if they see their darling giving everyone they know chocolates (it's obligatory, but they don't know that) and they didn't get one? Only for darling to give them a special chocolate of their own at the end of the day.
Fantastic ask. Wonderful. This will be a two part series cuz I have more ocs than I first thought <3
Valentines Special <3 part 1
(Characters Chata, Apis, Alan, Cameron)
Tw: Suggestive Themes, Toxic Jealousy.
———————
Chata (yandere Spider Lizard Demon)
Chata believes he’s fairly good at hiding his own feelings at times
Mostly due to the alcohol
But this would sting a bit.
Yellow eyes watched as you chattered around the bar. Handing sweets bags wrapped with pretty pink bows to your various coworkers and regular customers.
You wore a cute pink themed getup that suited you in a doll like way. You seemed to like this particular holiday quite a lot.
In the past chata felt the same really. It was scoring season, what with all the heartbreak that happened on this lovely day.
But he couldn’t find himself to humor the broken hearted individuals of the bar. Not when he was watching you warmly pass along chocolates to everyone but him.
Letting them hug you, and hold you, and feel the warmth that so soothingly kissed his scales.
It was insulting. He didn’t like being attached but he thought you liked him. At least a little. You were his favorite person. But he supposed he shouldn’t have assumed that he was yours.
That acknowledgment made him feel colder than usual. The quils on his spine raising and rattling threateningly, warding off any hot shots from sitting next to the aggravated beast.
Finding himself lost in his own irritation, he failed to notice the sound of feet walking over to him, before a sweets box, in the shape of a flame slid into his view on the counter.
His quils shot down, flat against his back as his eyes snapped to you.
A lecherous grin curled onto his face. Tongue lapping at the sudden drool that began to drip from his jaw.
You smelled awfully sweet today.
“Oh? This for me doll~?”
As if he was never upset in the first place, two sets of arms curled around your figure and smother you to his chest, easily lifting you as he stood from his bar stool and began marching up the stairs of the bar, into the staff room.
“You shouldn’t have~ I guess I should give you your valentines gift now huh?<3”
He didn’t acknowledge your muffled complaints about you still being on the clock as the door slammed shut.
Cameron (Yandere Therapist)
This is borderline devastating.
You had invited Cameron, your therapist, who you had been having regular hang outs with outside of sessions to a dinner party at your college campus with the school faculty. As your plus one.
Cameron was thrilled, naturally. Any chance to observe you in a non threatening and social environment was like being handed a bucket of gold.
Plus, it was like he was your date. Especially with the matching red outfits you both wore
He made sure to keep his shirt unbuttoned just enough to keep your imagination roaming.
Though his joy didn’t last long when he started watching you hand out goody bags to your colleagues.
While he remained glued to your side, arm respectfully linked with yours, his smile grew tighter with each group he greeted, before it fell completely at the sight of you gifting a bag to your ex. Of all people.
You’d mentioned them once in passing, having nothing but good things to say and even mentioning that it was mutual break up.
Cameron didn’t care though. No one in their right mind would ever willingly let you go. Not truly anyway. And he felt satisfied and deeply angered when his thoughts were confirmed as he watched the way your ex softly blushed while speaking you.
The arm that was intertwined with yours snaked it’s way subtly around your waist, Cameron leaning slightly into you as if to play off being tired, though he relished in your sweet stutter and your exes furrowed brows.
When they finally parted from you, Cameron gently pulled you in the direction of an empty table, sitting you down gently while pushing your chair in before taking a seat of his own.
He shuddered and flushed deeply when he caught your eyes peak down his shirt.
Did you see what he was wearing underneath? God he hoped you did.
Though, not one to let his excitement show in such a public setting, Cameron cleared his throat before bringing your attention to a small velvet covered box.
You gasped softly at the sight and Cameron couldn’t help but to smile as he removed his glasses.
“Happy Valentines Day Darling. Consider this a small anniversary gift since the start of our sessions. You’ve grown beautifully”
With careful hands you opened the pretty box, gasping loudly this time at the sight of a pretty rose gold necklace with your name engraved on a cute heart lock charm.
“Oh Cameron..you shouldn’t have”
Cameron gently pushed back a stray hair from your warm cheeks before humming softly when you took his hand and gently kissed his knuckles, whispering a soft thank you that had his heart thudding violently in his chest.
He was sure he looked like a blushing fool when you presented a a box, much like his own though in a satin red, and popped it open to reveal a necklace of his own, with a sweet little pair of angels wings attached
“ I feel a little less embarrassed giving this to you now. Consider it a thank you. For taking care of me and helping me with my problems.”
The darling smile you sent to him lit his skin on fire, and he couldn’t help himself but to return the kiss to your beautiful hands, though his own lingered a little longer.
“Of course darling. I’d do anything you asked of me.”
Suck it Ex.
Alan (Mean Inter-dimensional Yandere)
Alan hated Valentine’s Day. As he hated most days.
He was already on the stingier side, so a holiday where you spent money on someone else, to show your “love” for them, really wasn’t his forte.
Though, the idea of giving you, the shy one specifically, a box of chocolates, or better yet, a stuffed animal, was deathly appealing.
He could practically see your cute face twisting in embarrassment and excitement. The way your hands would carefully but shakily hold his gift to your chest, and the way your pretty eyes would stare up at him. And the feeling of your cute sweet lips pressing against his-
“Gee, thanks kid. I didn’t think I’d be getting chocolates today. I appreciate it though.”
“Yeah- uhm. No problem. Just a thank you gift. And stuff.”
What the fuck.
Alan practically felt himself boiling when he turned to watch you chatting with his boss of all people. Giving him a box of chocolates.
Where the fuck were your loyalties huh?
I mean yeah sure Alan wasn’t the most approachable or the nices guy in the world, but give his boss chocolates, and not himself?
He didn’t think you had that in you.
And he would’ve found it hot, had it been anyway but him on the short end of the stick.
So while he mulled in his own fizzling jealousy, not that he’d call it that, he nearly growled when you came tiptoeing over, a lunch box wrapped gently in a red checkered cloth clutched in your hands.
“Uhm…Alan?”
“What do you want?” He didn’t really mean to snap, and yeah he felt bad when your shoulders cowered a little, but he had to admit he impressed that you hadn’t burst in to tears and immediately run off at his dismissive tone.
He was relieved.
Alan watched with narrowed eyes as you set the lunch box on his desk.
He eyed it, then you, then it again, before finally setting it back on you and opening the box. Revealing a set of 6 sweet smelling cookies. Homemade.
“What is this?”
You winced slightly, fingers clenching and unclenching nervously before you took a deep breath.
“Thank you for taking care of me and being nice to me even though I know you don’t like me that much but I still appreciate you looking out for me happy Valentine’s Day- bye!”
Wide eyed watched in shock and awe as you immediately scurried out of the clinic. Into the closet.
A deep chuckle filled the room.
“Never thought I’d see you blushin mate.”
Alan’s eyes snapped over to the overgrown lizard demon, and the other you who eyed him curiously.
He scowled slightly. That meant you were gone.
“Shut the fuck up. I don’t want to hear anything from a walking disease.” He sneered at the two of you, and the other you scowled before marching off down the corridor, mumbling a small rude in his direction while chata laughed it off.
Valentine’s Day wasn’t so bad.
Apis (yandere Bull Demon)
Apis was already a lot of work to deal with on most days.
While he was helpful, he was also the most clingy being you’d ever come across.
It was hard to concentrate when there was a 7ft bull pressed against your back and sending various messages to your head via his weird, telepathy.
It was even harder when, today, Valentine’s Day, Apis seemed to be 100x clingier.
There was a permeant flush that slapped itself across his bull like features, and with every step the demon was practically tripping you with how close he was.
His tail flicked back and forth almost agitatedly.
“Look buddy I don’t know what you want right now. Can’t you just tell me?”
There was a deep whine that rumbled through the demons chest before he pressed himself further into, shoving you onto the couch and placing himself in your much smaller lap.
Your face was practically being suffocated in his obscenely large chest and the bull demon seemed to purr at that fact, especially with the way he shifted himself a bit.
“Apis! I don’t know what you want dude!”
A sudden growl poked through the moody beast, before several images struck through your head.
Roses, chocolates, hearts, arrows.
Ah.
“Oh. It’s Valentine’s Day isn’t it?”
The demon mooed in response, pressing himself even further into you, though mindful enough to make sure you could still breathe.
You sighed tiredly, before reaching your arm under one of the throw pillows and pulling out a box of chocolates.
“Here you go. I was gonna get you the same ones I gave all my coworkers yesterday but these were on sale. Plus you’ve been good lately so I-“
You didn’t get to finish your sentence before you were suddenly lifted off the couch, the chocolates cluttering to the floor before you were swept and up and the sound of thundering hooves filled the room.
“Whoa buddy hey wait- whyre we going to the bedroom- Apis no! Put me down! Bad!”
The Blissful bull ignored you, humming happily once he tossed you to the bed and slammed the door shut.
You could already see the by product of his excitement.
“Don’t worry Y/n. I’ll take good care of you <3”
Your jaw dropped.
“YOU CAN FUCKEN TALK??”

Sugary Scribbles | #8
Saturday 6th January 2024
IT'S BASICALLY WORKING (on larger screens)! My never-ending war on website responsiveness continues! I have a large screen and I stupidly only took into account of MY screen size. What I did do though is created a message for phone-table sizes because it just wouldn't make sense it working on really small devices - in my opinion~! But for now I will put this on hold because I am excited about my other project idea I came up with yesterday oops~!
This is my first project of the year and it's super adorable in my opinion! It paints, it erases, it deletes and it saves your artwork! Ticks all the boxes I made at the beginning of the project! Turned a simple 'Make a HTML painting webpage' into something more cuter and cool! Job well done! 😩🙌🏾💗
You can try it out (if you have a larger screen size), all that happens is the painting will be off the mouse direction a bit, sorry!
link to the Sugary-Scribbles web app! 🍡
Tumblr media
Lastly, here is a cool drawing I made as I was testing the site~! I'm a better artist than this I swear, just not good using a mouse...
Tumblr media
List of resources I used during the project
Figma - to plan the webpage
Canva: to make the header
Photopea: for further photo editing
RedKetchup: to colour pick quickly
CSS Animations: to add the zoom-in-n-out animation
MDN Canvas: to know what the element does properly
YouTube Tutorial: to get inspiration and extra help
Flaticon: for the icons and cursors
Html2canvas API: to turn the drawing into an image (tutorial)

That's all, have a nice day/night and happy coding! 🖤

Why We Need to Care About Insects
Originally posted on my website at https://rebeccalexa.com/why-we-need-to-care-about-insects/
Some months back a study was released that demonstrates just how damaging climate change is to insects, particularly those in tropical areas. Warming temperatures cause insects to die from overheating and dehydration, kills off their food sources, and lowers their fertility rates to dangerous levels. Moreover, changes in climate affect insect phenology, the timing of when they hatch, migrate, breed, and so forth.
And because insects are so small, they’re often disproportionately affected by many of these problems. As ectotherms, they rely on the air around them to regulate their body temperatures; their small mass means they lose heat faster than larger animals, and can be overloaded with heat much more quickly. Tropical insects are especially at risk from major fluctuations in temperature because they are adapted to a relatively narrow temperature range.
Tumblr media
Gray spruce looper moth (Caripeta divisata)
But the problem goes far beyond the tropics, and we are in the middle of an insect apocalypse. This problem often flies under the radar of those who are not already aware of invertebrate conservation. While a few insects, such as monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) and domestic honey bees (Apis mellifera), find themselves in the press on a regular basis, most species don’t have large fan clubs. Some of my favorite insects include the white-tipped ctenucha moth (Ctenucha rubroscapus), the velvet snail-eating beetle (Scaphinotus velutinus), and the black-tailed bumblebee (Bombus melanopygus), none of which are insects you’re likely to find making the headlines.
To be fair, there are a lot of insect species out there, so it would be hard to feature every single one individually. But we already face the problem that many people simply just don’t see why we need to worry about fewer bugs around. Last year I wrote an article about how search engines tend to produce exterminator sites at the top of results for various insects, and while some of that is no doubt due to advertising-oriented algorithms, they do reflect a widespread demand for extermination services that isn’t matched by more positive attention to these little animals.
Much has been said among entomologists, ecologists, and other professionals about why we need to be concerned about the drastic drop in the numbers of many insect species, and I’ve written about it as well. I could reiterate what would happen if we lost our pollinators (and also how to save them!) or the crucial role insect detritivores play in reducing diseases and keeping the food web cycling along. And I am still a champion for mosquitoes and other unpopular insects.

But these things always bear repeating. It may be that nine out of every ten organisms on this planet is an insect. Insects play an incredible number of ecological roles, from ecosystem engineers to pollinators to food sources and much more. Without them, ecosystems around the planet would collapse entirely.
I could certainly take the self-interested route and emphasize that fully one-third of our food relies on insects and other pollinators. I might also point out that insect detritivores help nourish the soil needed for everything from food crops to timber. While terrestrial insects and other arthropods only make up about a fifth of the amount of global biomass as their marine counterparts, they still represent a natural sink that holds about 200 million tons of carbon at any given time.
But our anthropocentric worldview rarely considers the intrinsic value of insects simply for existing. We’re constantly weighing and measuring their worth based on our biases and values. We divide them into “good” or “bad” insects: good insects are those that do things we like, like pollination or looking pretty, while bad insects are the ones that chew on our homes and plants or which bite or sting us when threatened or seeking food. For a lot of people, any insect beyond maybe a butterfly is a reason to say “Ewww, gross!” I’ve even seen this widespread among self-professed nature lovers, whether they have a true entemophobia or not, though there may be an evolutionary reason for this seemingly disproportionate reaction.
So consider this yet another attempt to change opinions about insects. I can’t cure entemophobia, but I can at least get people thinking more critically about personal and societal attitudes toward insects. I hope to get people to realize that widespread use of pesticides and other garden/agricultural chemicals–which has increased fifty-fold in twenty-five years–is driving the loss of so many insects. I’ve mentioned before that habitat loss is the single biggest cause of species endangerment and extinction, and that goes for insects, too. And, of course, the study mentioned at the start of this article is just one highlighting the increasing impact climate change has on insects worldwide.

Let me wrap this up on a bright note: word is getting out. There is a lot more awareness than there was twenty years ago, and there’s more nuance than we had in the early “save the (domesticated European honey) bees” campaigns. More people are ditching pesticides and other garden chemicals unless absolutely needed, and regenerative agricultural practices that use fewer chemicals overall are gaining ground. And while numerous organizations are increasing awareness of insect conservation, the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation–the oldest organization dedicated solely to invertebrates–is still going strong.
And you can help spread the word, too. Share this article with others, and some of the resources and organizations linked throughout. Consider your own relationship to the native insects in the world around you, and whether you might make their lives a little easier. And remember that sometimes it is the smallest of things that have the greatest importance in such a massive system as an entire living planet.

Note
how do you check the number for your boops?
Once it's over 1,000 the only way to check is by setting breakpoints in the client code via the dev tools.
If you're someone who already knows what that means, I could walk you through the trick that ended up working. (Finding the classname off the right element in the DOM, searching the classname in sourcecode and finding the section of React code setting it, setting a breakpoint nearby to trip and spy on the object which holds the response data from the boop api (<=not making that up it's a boop api).)
But, I don't think there's really a simple way to do it.
