Prompt 229
Tucker is so annoyed right now. He's tired, and look, usually his reincarnation happens without him knowing in the beginning, but it hasn't this time. Thankfully the brain can only have long term recall around the age of two so he didn't have to worry about… all of that.
But still. He's tired, annoyed, cranky, and about to swamp the entire house in sand.
He's not exactly used to being the younger brother in his lives. Or any sort of brother. And he's pretty sure Duke is either running a gang or being a vigilante. Ugh.

Cass joins Team Phantom
So, we all know how Cass escaped her terrible dad at the age of 8 right? And how she is adopted by Batman at the age of 16-17 right? Well, what happened in between that time?
Cass has been on the run for Years now. She is 13, and at this point she has been on the run for nearly half of her entire life. So it's really no wonder that when she finally got to a relatively safe place after weeks of little food, little rest, and constant attacks by her pursuers, she accidentally fell asleep.
She woke up in a nice comfy bed, in a room that looked like an Astronomy Geek's dream. Once the people who found her noticed she was awake, they explained what had happened.
Their son, a boy named Danny, had found her passed out in their Shed the previous day while cleaning up. He had quickly brought her in and offered his Room so she could rest comfortably.
Cass doesn't really trust them, and tries to run more than once, but her weeks of constant exhaustion have finally caught up with her and she is stuck staying with them until she is fit to leave.
And unfortunately for her, the Fentons are very Endearing.
By the time she is healthy enough to leave, she genuinely wants to stay. So they unofficially adopt her, letting her stay in their house and sharing a room with Jazz (Danny did kind of need his room back, and Jazz was a good sister like that)
She ends up going to the same school as Danny and ends up befriending both of his friends, Tucker and Sam.
The day of the Accident, Cass is right there alongside Tucker and Sam as the Portal kills Danny.
After the Accident, she is a great help in teaching him some calming routines and meditation techniques so he can get a handle on his Powers much easier.
They also find out that standing in front of a Portal as it rips reality apart is just as bad as being inside of it. They all end up extremely liminal and get Powers. Tucker has Technomancy, Sam has Plant Powers, and Cass gets Shadow Manipulation (or whatever you think fits her)
She is having the best time of her life, but unfortunately it can't last forever.
About 2 years after the Accident, the GIW get a lucky shot on Danny. They were using one of the inventions the Fenton's had made before the Reveal (which was a good one) one that made Ghost Powers weaker for easier capture. While it didn't hurt Danny too much, it did weaken him enough that he flickered into his Human Form for just long enough for the GIW Agents to see him.
Now with Danny's identity exposed, the GIW could track down the Identities of the Humans who had been helping him all this time, aka, Tucker, Sam, and Cass.
During a Raid on Fenton Works, they all got seperated somehow.
Danny got injured protecting the Team, and had to be rushed to the Ghost Zone by Jazz, a stray shot from the GIW blowing up the Portal behind them. They ended up in the Far Frozen, to get Danny fixed up.
Tucker was arrested and sent to prison for a little while before a glitch in his cells Security System allowed him an opening to use his Powers to escape.
Sam was chased out of the Town by the GIW and ended up in the Forest nearby. She had to use her Powers to run away, disappearing too deep into the Woods for the GIW to follow.
Cass managed to sneak out, and ended up trying to save Tucker on his way to prison. She failed though, and the GIW chased her all the way to New Jersey before loosing her trail.
This is how she ended up in Gotham, and got adopted by Bruce Wayne. But she would never forget her first Family, and would try for years to see if she could find where they ended up.
Potential Part 2? Maybe, I have some ideas...
What do you think?

Confessions
Summary: Idia confesses his love to you.
A/N: Third one shot finished! I was very sick with a summer cold while I wrote this so I hope everything makes sense. I also got very carried away with the banter and so I had to cut some dialogue to keep it to my desired work length. I hope someday I can share those deleted scenes with you all~!
Confessions series: Rook, Kalim, Idia, Floyd, Vil, Silver, Leona, Trey / AO3
Tumblr media
Your steps hit the pale marble flooring with singular purpose. Their crisp echoes spin away from your feet, only to ricochet off of towering columns and scatter up towards a vaulted ceiling. The hallways of Ignihyde are empty and bright, lit up by informational monitors and the mysterious hum of technomancy. The air inside the dormitory is pleasantly cool and feels almost sterilized with its lack of scent. You stride past countless rooms, ignoring the few rare muffled conversations that seep out from under the occasional door.
You stop at a door identical to every other door you’ve passed so far. Reaching out, you briskly knock on the door and announce, “Idia! Open up! I’ve got an emergency!”
A few beats of silence tick by before you hear the sound of reluctant, shuffling feet moving towards you. The door slowly creaks open, just barely wide enough for a single, morose yellow eye and one half of a radiantly pale face to peer out at you.
Wordlessly, you hold up your smartphone for Idia to see. Its current state could be best described in just one word: annihilated.
Idia swings the door open completely and stares down at the remains of your phone in abject horror, sputtering, “What the-! How-? What were you trying to do?! Vaporize your phone or something?!”
Handing over your former communication device, you step into the room and tiredly reply, “Several crucial mistakes were made today. Can you fix it?”
Idia’s face breaks into a wide, smug grin. He closes the bedroom door with a prideful scoff and boasts, “Like that’s even a question. Can I fix it? That’s undeniable! Too EZ. I could fix something like this with both eyes closed and my hands behind my back!”
You make your way over towards a tall bookshelf on the far side of the room and grin back at him, “Well that’s good news for me then! I’ll be over here perusing your manga collection while you get to work.”
Idia sighs wearily as he sets himself down in front of a worktable covered in various tools and hardware. “So business as usual I guess,” he mutters gloomily but from the corner of your eye, you manage to catch sight of the smallest of smiles flashing across his face.
As Idia sets up the necessary materials and begins his assignment, you trace your finger down the length of the bookshelf, scanning titles and making future reading selections. An interestingly named one catches your eye and you carefully retrieve it from its place on the shelf. With today’s selection in hand, you amble over to Idia’s worktable, seat yourself in a comfortable chair next to his, and begin reading.
Several minutes of easy silence pass by, periodically punctuated by the ambient sounds of lightly clicking repair work and the soft turning of pages. The two of you continue your parallel activities in this way for a few more minutes before you suddenly hear a short, quiet laugh from Idia.
You glance up curiously from your reading and ask, “Something funny?”
Idia does not stop or look up from his task but he smiles softly. He admits in a slightly bemused voice, “I was just thinking that this feels nice. This familiar scene, with you reading next to me while I work on a project. I never thought I'd get so comfortable with you barging into my room whenever you wanted."
You raise your eyebrows playfully and ask in a gently teasing tone, “Oh? So does that mean you used to feel uncomfortable with my visits?”
Idia turns his head to face you with an exaggerated look of retroactive disbelief and exclaims, “Understatement of the century! I was definitely super uncomfortable with your interruptions in the beginning and I believe I distinctly remember telling you to never come back on several separate occasions.”
“Yeah but you let me back in every single time afterwards,” you quip back with a self-satisfied grin.
“Well, of course. You wanted to read my manga,” Idia states frankly as he turns back to his work. “I don’t lend out my books to people I don’t know super well. If I don’t know your reading style, then reading my books requires my direct supervision!”
“Well you know my reading style now,” you say gesturing broadly to the careful and considerate way you hold the book you are currently reading. “Do you trust me enough to lend me a book now?”
Idia seems to suddenly freeze at the sound of your last question. With a hand poised elegantly in the air, clutching a small tool, he would look every bit like a beautiful statue if it weren’t for the slight flickering movement of his soft blue hair. Turning with almost excruciating slowness, he takes the book from your hands in a gentle and deliberate action and grabs a nearby bookmark to place inside before finally closing and placing it face down on the table.
Idia turns his chair so that his body is completely facing you but his eyes are cast down and to the side, still on the book. A breath of silence passes between the two of you before he finally speaks in a carefully measured voice.
"I do trust you. I completely and utterly trust you. But I'll never lend you any of my books because I want you to keep reading them here next to me."
Idia turns his head and looks into your eyes. There’s still the ever present, tired hesitation weighing down his brows, but you see something else in his face, never seen before. In his bright yellow eyes shines a fiery determination, fueled by newly realized desire.
You gaze silently into Idia’s eyes, almost hypnotized. An eternity seems to pass by in seconds like this until Idia suddenly throws his pale, thin hands over his face. You blink rapidly in surprise at the abrupt end to the moment. With fingers pressed tightly against his face, Idia’s voice comes out muffled and anxious.
“I need to tell you something really important but it might be kinda cringe? And I don’t think I have the nerve to say it out loud with you looking at me so can you please close your eyes? And also can you promise not to laugh at anything I say?”
Even though Idia can’t see you with his hands completely covering his face, you smile softly at him and state in a reassuring voice, “I promise not to laugh and I’ll close my eyes.”
With your eyes closed tight, you listen to the faint rustling of his clothes as he hesitantly lowers his arms and you hear the slight creaking of his chair, as if he is leaning himself towards you. Suddenly, you feel an ambient warmth on the side of your face and realize Idia has moved in closer to whisper into your ear. A faint feeling like feather softness swipes over your cheek and you think it must be some of Idia’s hair, flickering luxuriously against your skin like incense smoke. When he finally speaks, his voice is a low murmur against your ear.
"When I leave my room, all the whispers I hear behind my back and the stares I see from the corner of my eye... It's like harsh noise and screeching static to me. It’s overwhelming,”
Idia’s voice drops even quieter and you can almost feel his soft breath on your face as he draws a little closer, "But when I'm with you everything goes quiet. When I'm with you I feel safe."
For a few moments, the only sound in the room is the sound of the two of you breathing. The soft sound of air falling up and down weaves over and onto itself almost like calming music. Then Idia lets out a shuddering sigh, the air from his lips brushing over your skin like cool silk, and the silence melts away under his low voice.
"I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Thinking about you. When I open my eyes in the morning, I immediately think of you. When I close my eyes at night, it's your face I see. I think what this all must mean, what I’ve just now realized, is that I love you."
Your eyes fly open in surprise and you whip your head to the side to look at Idia, acting purely on instinct. His face is so close to yours, the tip of his nose almost brushes against yours. His eyes grow wide and bright from shock but he doesn’t pull away from you. Idia opens his mouth but all that comes out is a kind of strangled gasp. You read the question he can’t seem to ask, written all over his pale and unquiet face.
“Do you love me too?”

EW GROSS THEY HAVE MATH IN TWST????? (lmao)
[Referencing this post!]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, yes, I know 😂
Looking back on it, math is actually mentioned a lot more than I initially thought it was?? There is the obvious mention of measurements (such as of time, ingredients, etc.) but math also comes up when Deuce talks about not understanding his assignments or having a hard time answering. Azul talks about finances and making mathematical calculations, especially when discussing his business. I also assume students would need math for Alchemy/Potionology (which is basically the sciences) and Technomancy (magical tech). Math is alive and well in Twisted Wonderland… Alas 🧮
It’s interesting how TWST integrates the learning of magic with realistic subject matters! Magical schools in particular also make a case for having strong art programs (which tend to be one of the first to get cuts in funding irl 😔), since it’s important for mages to have a good imagination to help them visualize their spells and bring them into existence. Having a solid basis in the arts (be it visual, musical, or some other form) can certainly help with that!

Azul: You're asking me... how to approach MC?
Vil: Yes.
Azul: ...
Azul: Did they not approach you yet?
Vil: What do you think? *his arms crossed*
Azul: ... *adjusts his glasses* *smiles awkwardly* I don't know. MC is quite a friendly fellow. In fact, I've just known today that they've become friends with Idia.
Vil: What? Idia? That introvert?
Azul: Yes. That's why your question made me confused.
Vil: ...
Vil: *breathes in* I assume you're also friends with them.
Azul: Yes. Not just friends, but business partners. *smiles proudly*
Vil: ...
Vil: Azul, I'm here to ask you. Why is this HASN'T come to me yet?
Azul: I wish I have the answer to that.
Vil: ...
MC: *having a joyous conversation with the Scarabia students*
MC: I would love to visit Scalding Sands in my vacation!
Kalim: You should! Right, Jamil? We can give you a tour!
Jamil: Sure. But you have to bring some sunscreen with you because the sun is pretty harsh there.
Vil: *frowning*
Rook: Are you alright, Vil?
Vil: *sigh* ...
Vil: Rook, is it possible for you to call MC to come to our table?
Rook: Huh? Why all of a sudden?
Vil: Just do it. Please.
Epel: Oh! I'll do it! I have something to return to them! *stands up and approaches MC to the table of the Scarabia students*
Rook: ...
Rook: Vil, be honest. What is it about?
Vil: ...
MC: Huh? Why are you giving this back?
Epel: I don't think I have any use of it. And I'm afraid that I might drop it somewhere.
MC: Hmm... You're right. But you need something useful, huh...
Epel: I'm sorry I couldn't keep it.
MC: Oh, it's okay. I have something better for you.*unclasps the choker they're wearing*
MC: Would you mind getting closer? I'll put this on you.
Epel: S-Sure.
MC: There.
Kalim: Wow, Epel! It looks good on you!
Epel: R-Really? But what does it do?
Jamil: ...
Jamil: Wait. Isn't that a special technomancy item? The one where it can change your appearance?
MC: That's right. You know a lot, Jamil.
Jamil: *smiles* Not really.
Epel: A-And you're giving this to me?!
MC: Of course. What's good about that item is that it only requires a small amount of magic and the disguise can lasts for 30 minutes. Why not give it a try?
Epel: ... I want to look like a grown adult.
MC: Then do it. *chuckles*
Epel: *has turned into a very handsome man* IT WORKS!!!!
Vil: *clears throat*
Epel: Oops.
Epel: I-I'm actually here to ask you to go to our—
*the bell rings*
MC: Oh. I think the lunch break is over.
Epel: Aww...
MC: Catch you later, Epel.
Kamil: Yeah. See you, Epel!
Epel: *watches them leave*
Epel: *turns to look at Vil*
Vil: *isn't happy about it*
Vil: *decides to visit Ramshackle himself after learning from Rook that MC stays there to rehearse every afternoon*
Vil: *about to knock on the door when he remembers Rook's advice*
Rook: Fleur tordue doesn't like getting bothered when they're on rehearsal. So knocking the door is a big no-no.
Vil: That doesn't make sense, Rook. *sigh* *then just opens the door* *notices that it's a bit dark inside* *walks in* *closes the door behind him*
Vil: ...
Vil: *continues to walk in light steps until he reaches the living room*
*it's much brighter compared to the entrance because of the lit candles on the floor*
Vil: What's this? A ceremony for a cult?
Vil: *doesn't see MC so he goes to check the other rooms*
Vil: *has been looking around but doesn't see them*
Vil: *sigh* Should I just go another day? *turns around and about to leave when—*
MC: *standing close behind him, holding him by the throat* *their hand planted firmly*
MC: You have a beautiful neck.
Vil: ...
Vil: Thank you.
MC: ...
MC: *laughs* "Thank you"? Hm. I like that. *releasing their hold*
Vil: *turns to face them*
MC: *is covered in fake blood stains*
MC: But I was expecting that you would throw me off.
Vil: I better not do that and injure a famous celebrity.
MC: You could say that it was just an accident. *chuckles* But really, I would've preferred it if you did that. It would help me a lot in my rehearsal. *smiles*
Vil: ...
Vil: *in his head* You're weird.

NRC Dorm Placement
Tumblr media
my friend and i were discussing what NRC dorm we'd be sorted into, so here's some thoughts on how i interpret the dorms! what dorm do you think you are? 👀
.
Heartslabyul: based on how Heartslabyul is talked about, i see the dorm as one with a strong sense of character and unmoving values, possibly stubborn to a point. but its also important to note that its based on a queen who "ruled over a land of madness", so i like to think these students are weird on the inside if not on the outside, and they strive to find order in chaos and typically face troubles head-on. its probably common to have strong core values but they may not necessarily be universal- what the individual thinks is right, not necessarily what is right.
Savanaclaw: now when looking at Savanaclaw, it's main inspiration is "persistence." theyre not known for having students with high marks, but theyre equally as calculated and naturally talented in their respective area as Scarabia. Savanaclaw focuses more everyone having equal chances to succeed. they have the tendency to have a lot of athletically inclined folks, but the dorm is all about the spirit of never giving up in the face of defeat, which is ironic cuz Leona's depression really took over before his overblot.
Octavinelle: Octavinelle is said to be inspired by benevolence and charitableness, and are known for having skilled potion makers only second to Pomefiore. Octavinelle on the other hand has intelligent students, but at it's base the core of the students of this dorm are empathetic and worked their way up to having their reputation. These students are likely to be putting on a show to make up for the fact they didnt start at the top.
Scarabia: described as having very intelligent students, very patient and thoughtful, and to a point perceptive. Scarabia is naturally talented intelligence and highly calculated wisdom waiting for the right moment to strike. These student likely have the tendency to be coasting along in the shadows. Scarabia is defined as being excellent judges of character as well.
Pomefiore: its common to find folks in Pomefiore who are skilled/talented in potion making, but the dorm itself is representative of the Evil Queen's spirit of dedication, which is expressed by staying true to oneself and standing up for ones beliefs and uniqueness. typically quite charming and romanticizes things they love. really appreciates what they see as beautiful in the world.
Ignihyde: very much angry at the world and its history with the human race, but doesnt participate in big rallies for change cuz (in short) philosophy is a bitch. this dorm is known for next generation advancement in modern day magic, especially with the involvement of modern technology (technomancy). most likely highly excels at like one thing they hyperfixate on and thats it. canonically described as "quiet, serious, and not very outgoing" but let me raise to you this: they have one hell of a sense of humor.
Diasomnia: values tradition and wisdom of the past, and are extremely family-oriented. magical prodigies. probably seen as a bit odd or different socially. finds history and anthropology interesting even if they dont excel at it. incredibly loyal and kind-hearted!!

W.I.T.C.H. redesigns
Like with my Winx redesigns, I mostly browsed the wiki and blended my favorite design elements together lol.
I did end up using more New Power elements in the 1st forms, and the original designs in the 2nd forms. Idk knowing that the girls got to cover up more as they grew up instead of covering up more as kids....not a huge fan.
Overall: Guardians got color-coded wings. I really really like the og wing shapes, but the color-coding feels more classic magical girl to me so. I did use the shoe-less element from the reboot in the 2nd form. Bare feet feels more spiritual/magical imo. I actually like that part of the reboot design! Same with the element icons. 1st forms get more of the urban part of the urban fantasy look. Comfy tennis shoes for all. 2nd form gets gold accessories. 2nd form's main colors are the darker sub colors of the og. 2nd form socks are gradients instead of striped 2 tone. Normal clothes are mostly the og 2000s look. Idk I think that Will's technomancy is less impressive if Siri exists lol.
Elyon: I used Elyon's reboot hair texture. I always thought that between the color and texture of og Elyon's hair that it looked like straw? She's got a "chubby" body. I use "" bc she looks average, but would be considered chubby?
Will: If Disney owns these girls then Will gets a Kermit shirt. Since she's a tomboy, both of her guardian forms get shorts. 1st form gets a hood. Her hair gets some of her mother's waves. Normal hair does the emo hide-the-eye thing: really lean into her angst. In both guardian forms her hair does not change length. The short hair is truly her. Her bangs get the og treatment, and some hair gets tucked behind her left ear. The heart gets absorbed into Will in guardian form: she can still use it, it just isn't physically there in guardian form.
Irma: Dresses like she's an extra on Hannah Montana. It feels right. Her guardian hair gets space buns bc sometimes in her civilian forms she wore them, and I think she looks cute in them. Her 1st form is has heavy insp from Cassidy's guardian form. I just like the top better lol. Since Will lost the og little heart on her skirt, I gave it to Irma. It feels more Irma anyway imo. Irma also gets a chubbier body type.
Taranee: I love og Taranee's civilian form. I love her clothes, I love her hair, I love the hair beads, man og Tarnee's look is so chef's kiss to me. So I really didn't change anything. I have never once in my life understood what in the world og guardian Taranee's hair was supposed to be! In og New Power, she gets dreds, but keeps her 1st form hair too???? Dreds was my only guess as to what those were supposed to be, but with NP's hair having both, I don't think they were dreds??? And they don't look like the way that braids/hair twists are drawn in the comic (og Elyon has hair twists? Or at least I've interpreted that style as twists rather than braids?). So that plus how much I love civilian Taranee's hair, 1st form gets the civilian hair. She looses the beads, but gets a a wrap colored with the gradient of the purple-teal. 2nd form gets braids with gold accessories. I always felt like Taranee's og guardian forms seemed less designed than the others bc there were no swirly designs?? I mean, she gets a small heart on her collar, but that was taken off in the animated series probably for animation reasons. I actually like the triangle cut-out instead of the heart bc of fire's triangle icon, so I used that. I did take the waistline from Cornelia's skirt (my personal favorite waistline) and gave it it her shorts. She gets long sleeves in the 1st form. I just think it looks nicer than the sleeveless look in this design.
Cornelia: Both guardian forms get longer hair. 1st form gets a choker necklace. She looses the long sleeves and gets sleeves. Looking at og Cornelia and Irma's 1st forms, Cornelia's feels like a more elegant version of Irma's, so I wanted to keep that element in a way. Her skirt waistline gets turned to become the hem of the top. Her 2nd form keeps the og collar, but her top is inspired from comic Halinor's 1 sleeve shirt: Cornelia's top is 1 sleeved with a long glove.
Hay Lin: She gets braids in both forms. Like with Irma, sometimes she wears braids in civilian form, and I think it's cute. 2nd form gets two braids combined into a single one in the back, letting the rest of her hair blow free in the wind. She also gets sleeves in both forms for max blowing-in-the-wind factor, plus I wanted at least 2 members to have bell sleeves. 1st form gets NP Irma's top with an edited neckline. 2nd form gets the heart waistline, a lengthened skirt, and a choker necklace. Her civilian form looses the goggles, replaced with purple jelly sunglasses.

Help! My fiance won't stop not killing people! Do you know of an rpg that plays well with one DM and one PC that still has the aesthetics of DnD or classic fantasy, but where violence is more of a last resort than the primary way to resolve conflicts? One where you can actually feel like a good guy.
THEME: Non-Combat, Heroic Fantasy
Hello there, so I’m going to include games in this recommendation that may not be explicitly for two players, but can be conceivably be run with one player and one GM. This is because a number of duet games are built to provide roles for the players that don’t slot easily into the “GM” and “Player” role. I hope you find something that fits both of your goals!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
GROK?!, by Lester Burton.
GROK?! is an adventure role-playing game where you assume the role of an adventurer in a gonzo world of boundless plausibility and use your ingenuity and resourcefulness to overcome strange and perilous threats.
Planet Grok was once a haven for trans-dimensional migrants and a bastion of advanced technomancy, until a cataclysm rendered it a desolate hollow planet. Now, feral monstrosities haunt its chasms, cities float among the clouds, and a derelict space station encapsulates the planet and bathes the world in perpetual phosphorescent radiation. Yet, a new era of enlightenment is dawning. Civilizations grow from the ashes, relics of immense power await those who would learn their lost secrets, and threats of caste warfare loom as leaders vie for power. All the while, a creeping black nothingness peers up through the hollow of the world.
This is a game heavily inspired by a lot of heavyweight games that exist in the ttrpg scene, such as Cortex Prime, Savage Worlds, Numenera… the list goes on. The creator describes a “universal resolution” system that is also “fail forward.” This means that you use the same resolution mechanic for every action your character takes, and instances where you fail still move the story forward. I won’t say that it prioritizes other methods before combat, but it certainly looks like you can play it that way. Aesthetically it’s a bit more science-fantasy, but the digital copy is only a dollar, and the Quickstart is free to download on the Itch.io page, so it might be worth checking out.
A One In A Million Chance At Adventure, by Jocher Symbolic Systems.
This is a game where you play the roles of, often unwilling, sometimes zealous, pawns in the cosmic octarine coloured narrative. Your character is not necessarily a "hero" per se, instead one could possibly see it as being important to the story. Characters like yourself do have a knack for not dying as often as a common mortal (or undead if that has been your unfortune). With this follows that you'll naturally have a higher chance of actually, possibly, doing some heroic deeds, just by sheer mathematical logic. Unless, of course, you are the type of adventurer who'd prefer a cup of hot tea and soft slippers and a reliable day job. That does severely reduce the odds of let's say beheading a mythical beast of ill repute or befriending the immodest wood nymphs of Howondaland.
This is a game designed for two or more players, one picking up a GM role and the rest acting as players. It’s a loving tribute to the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, and is therefore free! It is a setting that provides a tongue-in-cheeck reference to classic fantasy, and uses a 2d10 system to follow your character’s humorous attempts at becoming an adventure, and all of the one-in-a-million outcomes that make their stories interesting.
I like that this game uses narrative points to give your character a chance to do something really cool in situations where they don’t have a realistic chance of success. I also appreciate the de-centring of violence in that there are no health points or systems in place to keep track of physical harm. This doesn’t mean that conflict is impossible - it just means that it has to be figured out collaboratively between the players and the GM. What there is a great deal of focus on, is magic, with some really interesting effects that could pop up whenever you cast a spell.
This game is cheeky and knows exactly what it’s trying to emulate, and if you’re familiar in any way with Discworld, I think you should check it out.
Mausritter, by Losing Games.
Take up the sword and don the whiskers of a brave mouse adventurer in Mausritter, the rules-light fantasy adventure roleplaying game.
It’s a huge and dangerous world out there, and it does not look kindly on a small mouse. But if you are very brave and very clever and just a bit lucky, you might be able to survive. And if you survive long enough, you might even become a hero amongst mice.
Mausritter is, at its heart, an OSR game, and while many OSR games are pretty dark in tone, one thing that they excel at is providing characters with situations in which violence can’t be the answer. The costs of trying to fight something as a mouse are just too high - cats and owls and other large creatures are dangerous endeavours that only large large groups of mice have a chance at defeating. So for a two-player game, you’re going to understand narratively the necessity of using your wits. This game gives you a setting that makes it possible to have a game that mirrors more closely some themes in epic fantasy as well, including a magic system with spells that can give characters an even bigger toolbox when it comes to solving problems.
The Weaver’s Observatory, by Gem Room Games.
The Weaver’s Observatory is a two player dramatic fantasy adventure about an explorer seeking to change their destiny by asking a boon of Fate herself. Set in an ancient tower outside time, the Climber shares memories of their life as they cross a moat of living dye, ascend through the threads of discarded fates, and navigate the mechanisms that construct the fate of all living things without knowing if their request is even possible.
While this game doesn’t explicitly call the two roles within it GM and PC, it was designed for Tunnel Goons, which does use those sorts of roles. In The Weaver’s Observatory, one person is a solitary explorer, climbing a tower to request a boon from Fate. The other is Fate itself, representing the tower and the few inhabitants that reside within. The solitary Climber will encounter puzzles, hazards and guards that they will have to solve, avoid, and reason with - so I don’t see much of combat set within either the style of gameplay or the structure of the adventure.
This is a game that can be played as a one-shot, or can be set within a larger campaign. The entire game uses weaving metaphors and iconography, to set a tone for the overall narrative. If you like a tone that is intentional and purposeful, and want to tell a story that has great consequences for the person involved (and possible for a larger world), then this game is definitely worth checking out.

Twst Book 7 SPOILERS!!!!
I have a theory for how the deep sleep is going to go down.
The dream is collective. The "reset" stuff I've seen makes me think Malleus is going to put them in a collective dream where the school year has restarted. Because it's a dream, they'll believe it's real and have to recollect their real memories or break through the "dream fog" to realize that it's a dream.
Ortho will be the one who realizes this because the real Idia isn't in the dream. Ortho will also be key to breaking them out by communicating with Idia; Ortho, being mostly technomancy, can probably interact with his body or send a message even when he himself is unconscious. I suspect this because there's a theme of the previous OB dorm playing a key role in the following OB plot, plus Malleus has no knowledge of technology. So he wouldn't know to TRY to block Ortho's signal. OB Mal might stop Ortho from connecting outside of the thorn dome barrier, but he won't have the foresight to realize Idia is missing and Ortho can contact him.
Mickey will play a role in helping Yuu realize its a dream. Mickey can only meet Yuu when Mickey is sleeping, so I think Yuu being asleep might help them meet "on the same plane." Im dying to see how cute Ortho and Mickey interacting would be.
Malleus may have the ability to manipulate memory in the dream, so it would be important for the dreamers to not let him realize they're catching on. Otherwise he can just reset the dream.
Malleus will be able to be present in both the dream and reality simultaneously. Defeating OB Malleus likely will require Idia and Ortho breaking out SOME OF the dreamers first, then the OB battle will happen in the waking realm.
The only reason they'll be able to defeat Malleus is because Phantoms consume magic, therefore Malleus will be drained to the point where there's a fighting chance.
Wishful thinking but smh can this man hold me while humming pls
Anyways yeah!!! Those are my simple theories. Note, I have only seen other people talking about the plot, I have yet to find a translation to read, so I'm probably missing some things. I also know that Diasomnia will need to be a big part of how things go down but I don't have any theories on HOW yet. I know Silver is gonna be super important. I know Sebek's brain is gonna break when he has to acknowledge that even Malleus makes mistakes. I know Lilia is gonna feel REALLY BAD because he definitely didn't know Malleus would react like THIS.
Alternatively, if Mal's g-ma is informed that there's currently a giant thorn barrier around the school.... you think we might meet Malefica and see her scold her grandson???? I don't think it will happen but I love the idea.

Up next we have @innbetween which im officially caught up on and AHHH I really love this show. The concept of moments between campaigns is so brilliant and Hannah Wright does such a good job with writing it. S5 starts THIS WEEK (or right now for patrons) and its going to be great
New @somewhereohio was MARVELOUS this week I love hearing more of what Orange is doing and the editing that brought that section to life was incredible. I also just love that all of season 2 so far has been dipshit teen shenanigans underscored with horror. Its excellent
This week's @woebegonepod was absolutely phenomenal it went back and forth between making me feel emotional to making me laugh and then the ENDING gods no one is doing it like Dylan woe.begone is. There is a cw for gore and it comes in a way I did not expect but in a wild way
Episode 3 of the Grotto and Athan has once again just. Knocked it out of the park. Between the music for this show and the incredible voice acting that's involved and the *mystery* of it all, The Grotto is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and yall should listen
And I would be remiss if I didnt give one last plug for @souloperatorpod which starts TOMORROW for patrons on their patreon and next week for everyone. Tot has put so much work into this and yall are gonna love it. Im incredibly proud of Tot and can't wait to see her blow yall away
Since this is the last ADS of the year, I want to shout out some shows that kept me company in 2023: @ethicstownpod, Super Suits, The Technomancy Project, @liarsandleechespod, Tiny Terrors, @doyoucopypod, @eelerschoice, @224bbaker, @kingmakerpod, @karenonepercent, @tellnotalespod, and @thewyrdsidepodcast (just to name a few)

Here on the Fringes we're almost halfway through the season!! This week's episode is currently live for our crowdfunder backers and our patreons at patreon.com/PineTreePods. I'm quite proud of this episode and next week's episode and can't wait to hear y'alls response :)
And over on @forgedbondspod our cast has been finalized! Thank you to everyone who submitted an audition, there were so many incredibly talented people who did so and there were many hard choices but I think yall will like the cast we have. Official cast announcement coming soon!
That's all for this YEAR! I'm excited to see what 2024 will bring and can't wait to keep sharing the stories I have in the works with y'all

Fall Special
cw: crack which suddenly turns into angst. multiple characters involved but this is vil and azul focused, the remainder have unnamed characters associated with them. night raven college is a college au! mentions of cheating and some toxic behavior. mild violence. 3.2k words. a/n: this started off as a joke and went too far lmfaoooo
Fall has truly fallen all throughout NRC and the slow ramp-up of classes before final exams has everyone somewhat on edge. This, of course, makes it the perfect time for the Mostro lounge to announce its highly anticipated cold-weather and warm-drinks autumnal event. Fliers have been posted all throughout the halls of Night Raven from the potionology wings to the halls of technomancy, and nearly everyone is buzzing about it.
You and Vil likely won’t be attending, not because you are uninterested, but because things are still somewhat dicey after all that transpired at the end of your first year, particularly at the spring ball, and also because Azul still has a bone to pick with the two of you. As you and Vil both walk down in step from your last course of the evening, the brightly decorated posted advertisements cannot help but interest you and finally you bite, stopping at the end of a hallway and stepping a little closer to a particularly large poster just outside one of the restrooms.
And that’s when you realize.
“No fucking way.”
Vil quickly finds himself beside you and starts to read the poster as well, and when he gets to the same line, the line advertising the drink specials, you can practically feel his blood boil. Before you can say anything, Vil has snatched the poster down with a loud rip, and he’s proceeding to go down the line, tearing off any and all fliers he can see, muttering to himself.
“If he thinks he can just say anything the fuck he wants to say, he’ll absolutely deal with me,” he says under his breath, tearing sheet after sheet and crumpling it into small crumpled balls of paper he throws behind him. “The sheer audacity to make up a reality! The sheer nerve! Why I oughta make calamari out of him! Sashimi! Inky pasta! Does he truly find this shit funny?”
You on the other hand are frozen in place, the sheer embarrassment like a leaden weight throughout your body. After all, Azul has found a way to label you as a cheater to the entire student body in a much more sinister way than just rumors.
‘Cheater Tea and Homewrecker Biscuits’ is the special combo he’s introducing that night, and what’s more is that he clearly designates that this is a renaming of the popular special that had initially borne your name. The sneaky octopus is using a drink that carries your name and is your special recipe, to insult you, after all this time.
While you continue to reckon with the fact that Azul is telling the entire student body that you’re evil incarnate still, Vil is still ripping through the walls like the Tasmanian devil, and he’s so far down the hall that you can barely see him any more than a flurry of blonde and purple. Clenching your fist as your shock gives way to irritation, you decide you’re definitely going to appear at the Mostro lounge that night, if only to give Azul Ashengrotto a piece of your fucking mind.
“Okay, we’re going to be cool when we show up, okay?” you remind Vil as you make your way just feet before the entrance of Mostro lounge, where the eel twins, Floyd and Jade, stand at guard as though they were bouncers. As this is a restaurant on campus grounds technically, they should not technically have the right to refuse anyone admission, but from their crisp, decorated suits and pleasant but malicious expressions, it’s very clear that they don’t intend to follow any rules.
Vil still somehow manages to be angry despite the fact that he’s just had an entire outfit change from outside of his school uniform, his redone eye makeup threatening to crease with every glare.
“Azul doesn’t know what the definition of cool is, so why should I?” he asks.
His irritation is vindicating to you, and he’s right after all, what kind of psychopath behaves like this? You’ve already told him countless times that you did not cheat, everyone you know knows that you did not cheat, but Azul remains slighted and will not let go of your reputation.
Vil marches first, and you follow quickly behind.
It doesn’t take long for Vil to have grabbed Floyd by the collar.
“Where is that snake?”
“Octopus.” Jade corrects, grinning at Vil from the side. Floyd is also smiling despite the tense grip of Vil’s nails on his fine suit.
“Are you going to teach me some fighting moves?” he asks, the slippery nature of his words aggravating Vil further.
“You think this is a joke, don’t you?”
Jade giggles.
“I don’t know what you’re mad about but probably!” Vil lets go roughly and Floyd resettles with a renewed smile on his face, big enough that it narrows his eyes.
“Reservations?” he asks.
“Reservations?” you repeat. “Since when do you-”
“New rules!” Jade chimes in. The eels look at each other and laugh, and Vil grimaces.
“The flier clearly says this is an open event. We’re going to the bar.” Vil pushes past Jade but Jade quickly steps behind him, a movement as fluid as though he were swimming in the deep sea.
“You have to be on the list?” he grins. You look towards Floyd and he nods emphatically.
“You know damn well there’s no list,” Vil insists. You’re pretty sure this is made up as well, but Jade stays put.
“Boss’ order!” His heterochromatic eyes glint in mischief.
While it’s extremely clear that this is made up, you consider saving yourself the embarrassment of insisting. One night of embarrassment might be enough.
Just then, another group of students show up, a few of them coupled, and Jade welcomes them warmly.
“Right this way,” he motions. You gasp as he doesn’t bother to check a list or a reservation, and Floyd leers again at you from the side. Vil is already untying his shoe to throw before you can hear your friend suddenly call your name, which has Vil pause and look towards the source of the sound.
“___! Vil!” she waves. Her arms are linked with Malleus, who seems surprised but otherwise pleased that you’ve both arrived. Floyd welcomes the two of them and steps aside, but your friend stops and glances at the two of you, unmoving. Vil is practically shaking with irritation and you look exasperated if anything.
“Are you not coming inside?” she asks.
“We don’t have a… reservation.”
She blinks, then she turns to Floyd who might as well be the Cheshire cat. Jade swim-walks around the two of you, placing his shoulders on your back which has Malleus raise an eyebrow, and pushes you gently.
“The festivities don’t start without you, our own very Briar Valley royals! Ignore those two, and-”
Malleus gives Jade a look which has him immediately take his hands off of your friend and she then walks over to you to take your hand.
“Let’s go inside,” she says quickly, figuring out exactly what kind of nonsense the twins are up to. You follow, nodding, and Vil considers throwing his shoe at the eels again then decides that the effort to find and repair such an expensive shoe might not be worth it, opting to shake his head and walk into the restaurant instead.
However, when he sees Azul the math might just work out in shoe-throwing favor.
The restaurant is as lively as you expect, bustling with all manners of students from different houses and different levels. You quickly make your way to the bar, where you can see your mermaid friend who seems to have her hands far too full, wisps of red hair sticking to her forehead as she whips from end to end taking orders. At the bar is Rook sitting on a high-top stool and leaning over the counter, his eyes soft and easy as he watches his girlfriend in genuine distress and offers no help. You see her turn into an open oven, and it looks exactly like the wafers that are now labeled homewrecker biscuits and when she looks up and sees you, you can see all the color drain from her face.
“I CAN EXPLAIN!” she yells. The tray clatters on the table and Rook reaches out to grab one with no abandon but before he can take a bite, Vil has seemingly come out of nowhere, and slapped it out of his hand. Rook looks shocked, but turns and sees Vil, says an “Oh la la Roi du Poison”, raising his hands in defeat. Vil glares at him, and Rook then tuts as he hops off the stool to grab the soiled biscuit, but Vil immediately crushes it with his heel, almost taking out Rook’s hand in the process. Rook frowns now, disappointed as Vil grinds the cracker to dust, but as he looks up, Vil grabs him by the collar.
“Did you really order the homewrecker biscuits?! Are you out of your mind?!”
Rook raises his hands again. “But they are delicious?!”
Vil bares his teeth.
“First of all, why are you in here while I was forced to stand outside?”
Rook blinks.
“Ah? Mais you were stuck outside? How come?”
Not bothering to deal with Rook’s usual treachery, you turn to his partner, who looks like she’s about to duck under the table.
“___, how could you make cheater tea and homewrecker biscuits?” you ask, disappointed. “Don’t you know Azul is talking about me?”
The mermaid reddens almost as much as her hair.
“I really need to fund this makeup obsession, I am so sorry.”
Vil overhears this and he might have said something, but even he has to agree that her makeup looks good. Malleus takes a seat throughout all the commotion and tries to catch the bartender’s attention.
“May I have the cheater tea, please?”
His partner looks at him in genuine shock, as do you, Vil, and Rook, who is actively being shaken like a baby in Vil’s two hands.
“Are you for real, Malleus?” she asks.
“What? It’s my favorite drink,” he says, unblinking. His partner looks at him, then at the bartender, then at him again.
“Malleus please order something else.”
“Why?”
She groans and the bartender uses the opportunity to escape, catching the eye of another couple at the other end of the bar. Cater is the one who calls her over, sly looking as he motions for his date to grab a drink. She’s the same girl from the spring ball, and you’re surprised that he’s managed to catch the interest of the same girl for so long and vice versa.
“What would you like?” your mermaid friend almost gasps out. You can see the fingers of her left hand cross, and read the words “please do not say cheater tea” practically written into the distressed crease on her forehead.
“A…”
She holds her breath as the girl decides.
“London Fog.”
“Oh thank God,” the bartender says, letting herself breathe out finally. You, for whatever reason, are also satisfied, and turn away from your other friend trying to explain to Malleus for the fifth time why he cannot order cheater tea in front of you, but you overhear your friend from Savanaclaw whisper to her partner Trey, “Hey, does the cheater tea taste familiar to you?”
Trey takes a sip of the drink as well.
“Wasn’t this previously called ___ after your friend?”
You watch as they both crunch on homewrecker biscuits and you’re about to start screaming, but just as though Lady Luck was suddenly on your side, the true villain of the hour suddenly appears, clapping his hands for attention as he makes his way down the steps of the entrance.
“My, my, isn’t everyone looking great tonight? How’s everybody doing? Are you all enjoying yourselves?”
The music lowers to let him speak and the crowd turns in his direction, a couple whoops in his direction, and all is well, but then your body moves faster than you can think.
Before you know it, all five fingers of yours and the palm have made it across the dapper host’s face. There are a couple gasps from the crowd and soon there is silence. Azul’s hat and glasses all go flying, the lenses shattered, and his face quickly reddens in your handprint. Malleus stifles a laugh which has his partner shush him in polite panic, and the bartender covers her mouth before another timer goes off, reminding her to collect yet another batch of homewrecker biscuits from the oven.
Trey’s partner whispers ‘Damn’ loud enough for the group to hear and looks at Cater’s will-they won’t-they who is wide-eyed and shocked. Vil looks smug and crosses his arms in pride, despite the stiletto hanging from his left hand.
“You have some fucking nerve,” you hiss.
Azul slowly raises his head up, then smiles, not unlike the eel twins.
“Happy to see you join us, my darling.” In his blue eyes are the tides of dislike, bitterness and envy only. “But where’s your reservation?”
The eel twins take this as their cue to arrive, and Floyd goes to pick up the hat and glasses, repairing the glasses quickly with magic while Jade stands beside Azul in case you consider slapping him again or worse. Vil approaches now and is soon beside you as well. You place a hand in front of him to remind him you can handle it, but tears are forming in your eyes. The rest of the restaurant remains in bated breath.
“Do you think they’re gonna fight?” Rook says, far too loudly. No one answers him. The bartender makes it out from behind the bar and kicks his ankle, finally sick of his antics for the night. He whines but knows to be quiet this time.
Malleus’ partner asks him the same question, but quieter. The implication of her words is asking him to make sure it doesn’t get out of control, but frankly he’s quite entertained. He reaches for a biscuit on the table and bites, crunching loudly.
“You banned me from your restaurant AND slandered me? Don’t you know that I’m the one who came up with that recipe in the first place? Where’s my cut?”
Azul’s eyes widen in pretend surprise. “Ah, yes that! Here!” He stuffs his hands in his pockets as though he’s rummaging then pulls out a closed fist.
“Show me your palm,” he says, and reluctantly you do so. He opens his own closed fist and goes “Voila, nothing!”
Vil immediately swings and Azul dodges, but only because Jade pulls him to the side quickly before his fist can connect. Vil goes for another hit but by this time Rook has already come up to prevent an actual fight from breaking out. Malleus crosses his legs but he’s watching intently, now with less amusement and a slight bit more concern. Trey and Cater watch too, with bated breath.
“This is my recipe and it was a drink we made together. Are you fucking serious?”
“This is my restaurant and that was when I was back in love with you. Are you fucking serious?”
You clench your jaw.
“I NEVER cheated on you!!!”
By now, you’re crying, and the entire restaurant can hear. A few people have started picking up their belongings and are making their way out, and even Cater and Trey have escorted their dates out back to Savanaclaw and Heartslabyul respectively. Malleus and his partner have yet to move, but she’s whispering in his ear about this being a little too private of a matter.
The first group of people makes their way out of the restaurant and Floyd finally decides to announce the inevitable -
“Ladies and gentlemen and beastmen and all those in between and neither, we will now announce that the Mostro lounge will be closed for the night. Any reimbursements will go through us, please contact us through our website. Thank you!”
You’re still shaking now, and Azul’s smile turns bitter and poisonous.
“See how you ruin everything,” he whispers, not letting his eyes fall away from you. Vil is practically vibrating with intent to kill but you ask him to leave, and Rook decides to pull him away. Malleus and his date finally decide that it is probably appropriate to leave too, and she gives you a last look of concern as she finally disappears out, her hand tightly held by his.
“Is this a good time for me to resign?” the bartender asks Rook. Rook tries not to laugh now but he will absolutely laugh later. He whispers to Vil, “promise me you won’t do anything crazy,” in an uncharacteristically serious voice, and Vil admits that he cannot make that promise, but Rook sighs and accepts it. He also leads your mermaid friend out who gives you a half frown and motions for you to call her afterwards.
You can barely see for the tears in your eyes. Collecting yourself takes a few moments, but then you wipe the tears from your face with the back of your hand and straighten up your back.
“If me ruining everything makes it easier for you to rationalize our breakup that’s fine. I’m tired of your games and frankly I don’t have anything to lose anymore. So slander my name all you want Azul.”
Azul has a sneer on his face, but he realizes you’re serious because you turn to Vil and take his hand.
“Let’s go.”
“Are you sure you don’t want me to…?” Vil starts but when you shake your head, he understands.
“Just drop it. I’d rather spend time with you.”
Azul looks like he’s been hit in the face with this sentence and there’s a tiny bit of satisfaction that comes to you with that. Vil eyes him but doesn’t raise his fist again; Azul’s face is already swelling.
“Probably should apply ice or you’ll get uglier,” Vil says before leaving. You’re too upset to laugh.
Back in Pomefiore, Vil sighs loudly, breaking the silence, as you sit quietly on your bed, letting your racing thoughts paralyze you. He brings you tea, not your own blend of spices, but a regular Earl Grey tea and brings it to your lips. You’ve made a fool of yourself, ruined an entire event, and still somehow you feel like Azul won, even though nothing he’s ever said was true. Perhaps you really are the bad person - he certainly made it seem so.
“It’s okay,” he whispers. “Everyone knows he’s lying.”
You swallow thickly but the warm tea is soothing down your throat anyway. Vil massages your shoulders, and you look at him, eyes still shining brightly although you’ve long since run out of tears.
“I don’t want to be a bad lover… I don’t want to be bad to you,” you say to him.
He nods then kisses your forehead before holding you close.
“You never could be.”
Just knowing that Vil will always be in your corner warms you from the inside out.

Junk Technomancy Technomancer (Technomancer Alternate Class Feature)
Tumblr media
(art by David Bonilla on Artstation)
Perhaps one of my very, very favorite things about the Starfinder technomancer class and their spells is how well they integrated technology and magic together, (in the spells at least, the magical hacks are kinda hit and miss for me) and nowhere else is this clearer than in the “junk” spells. Junk spells include those that either transmute nearby junk into a form unable by the mage, conjure junk usable for the former as their primary function or as a side effect, or that utilize already transmuted junk in a new way.
It began in the core book with the various junkbot spells, which were a stand-in for summoning until they perfected that with Alien Archive, but as more books came out, we got junk armor, junk swords, barricades, grenades, extradimensional shelters, and even the ability to detonate junk or transmuted creations!
It only makes sense, then, that there would be technomancers that specialize in these sorts of spells. They might be self-taught mystical tinkerers using the most readily available resource they know of in low-income neighborhoods, or they might be enthusiasts that see the ruined beauty and functionality in what others deem worthless.
Regardless of where they come from or how they feel about these things, only a fool would underestimate a junk technomancer just because their arsenal is all secondhand. It may not look pretty or be as sturdy, but they can squeeze surprising amounts of power out of what others cast off.
In exchange for having a cache and cache capacitor, these techno-mages specialize in junk spells, learning junk armor and junksword immediately in addition to their normal spell allotment, as well as upgrading to higher level versions of junksword as they gain levels (the text suggests that junk armor upgrades as well, but that spell doesn’t have variable level. It’s just a first level spell. A mistake on the author’s part?) Additionally, they can cast either one of these spells once a day without expending any energy.
Their junk spells also prove just a little bit better, their armor becoming tougher, and their transmuted creations lasting longer.
Given their focus on cobbling together contraptions than programming, they also focus on engineering rather than computers.
Finally, they improve their junksword and junk armor to allow for upgrades, their armor gaining an armor slot which they can install an upgrade into, and their junkswords able to incorporate a fusion seal the technomancer has on hand into their design.
The junk spells of a technomancer are versatile, ranging from defense to attack to utility, but they all require scrap electronics to work, which is why spells that conjure junk, be it the junk shards attack spell or the fabricate junk cantrip are very important for when you venture beyond junkyards, broken-down slums, or easily-smashable tech labs. That being said, you also still have all your other spell slots to diversify for those times when junk is not available and conjuring some would waste precious seconds. In any case, the focus on junksword and junk armor does mean the build expects you to be at least partially a melee build, so your spell and feat selection could probably do with options that tilt melee combat in your favor, such as debuffs and battlefield control options, to say nothing of enhancing your own combat prowess.
The versatility of junk spells cannot be denied, but one must also remember that no only are these creations temporary, but they render the junk used in them inert to any more castings of the spell, valuable only for their use as scrap. As such, I imagine that many of these technomancers also enjoy making longer-lasting creations as well, possibly from the junk they’ve spent on previous castings of their magic, incorporating components harmlessly into the whole of a project.
Strange attacks have been happening in the upper city, with people being slain by beams of light from invisible foes. The culprits are a group of lurkers-in-light, led by a lightweaver. However, confronting the fey in the upper city will be nearly impossible without first causing a blackout. The simpler option would be to track them to their dark undercity lair, home to junkers of all descriptions.
Most would consider Visak’s Folly, a debris field of derelict ships left over from the last great war, to be a poor place to forge a community, but for the xulgaths that dwell there, it is a golden opportunity. So much salvage to recover and sell. Many of them take up technomancy as well, turning the scrap that surrounds them into tools and weapons, the latter especially one those that attempt to muscle in on their claim.
It wasn’t the plentiful resources or the verdant wildlife that attracted Polgan to the colony world of Pillar, it was the ancient superstructure that gave the planet its name. Attempts to explore or survey it have been met with disaster before, but the young technomancer is certain that with his junk magic and know-how he can make the attempt alone and self-sufficiently. Such is the foolishness of youth.

i havent drawn my pirate101 ocs in a while so i'm just slowly working my way through all 10+ of them... anyways here's my witchdoctor's squad!
Quincy is a witchdoctor who does musketeer stuff because of their love to tinker with things -- recently, they've been on a roll experimenting with clockworks and technomancy. They never stay in one place for long and travel frequently, but the experiences they pick up from meeting so many people and dealing with many different situations (along with the crew they often travel with) has made Quincy a force to be reckoned with. They fight with a mix of witchcraft and guns and any contraptions they make.
Huo Tian is a swashbuckler who was the former princess of a ruined village in Mooshu. After the raid that destroyed her village, and with nothing left, she decided to embark on a quest for vengeance. After taking care of those directly responsible, she turned her sights to the one who hired them -- General Tso. However, Huo Tian landed herself in some trouble with the Armada and only managed to slip away because of Quincy's interference. Now with nothing to do outside of revenge, she wanders the worlds together with Quincy in hopes of finding a purpose in life. Huo Tian fights with a jian and an enchanted fan that can manipulate fire.
Knight is a privateer and Quincy's creation, a centaur created by scavenged battle angels and clockwork steeds. Though Knight often acts like a standard battle angel with the objective to protect Quincy and co., they've recently begun to have emotions of their own and expresses a curiosity of the world around them. Quincy is very proud of them :) They fight with a modified lance that can also shoot a burst of sparks when needed.

∞Σ≜Introduction to Technomancy≜Σ∞
As we grow, so does our culture, so does our magic, and so does our view of the world around us. Superstition exists in all corners of life and modern technology is no exception. While none of these practices are based on ancient or complicated rituals due to the nature of modern technology itself not being ancient, there are evolving forms of the craft that have appeared in the modern day.
Black Box Technomancy
A black box is defined as any complex piece of equipment, typically a unit in an electronic system, with contents that are mysterious to the user. There is a belief that technology only obeys you if you know how it works, and every black box is somewhere where technology can be manipulated. This is more magic used to affect technology than technology used in the process of magic.
By this logic if you want your computer to start working, the best thing you can do is learn how it is supposed to work, or have someone who understands it better come over and explain to you what is supposed to happen. Having a holistic instead of superficial understanding of a machine you are operating can help create and maintain effective working environments. In some cases it helps if the person who knows how it is supposed to work just stands there and watches.
On the other end, this can work in reverse. You can avoid learning about the workings of the black boxes or intentionally put it out of your mind and impose your will in their place in order to bend the limits of a machine or technological device using this method. This may include intentional ignorance of the condition of a computer in order to push it beyond its normal limitations.
Forms of Divination
A common way that technomancy is used is for divination. Many use randomizers for divination purposes. There are not a lot of standard ways to go about this due to the method, but many of them are based on older systems that attribute divination means to certain numbers. There are also some online pendulums or tarot card readings that work on similar systems of randomization and interpretation.
Channeling Through Technology
There is magic where the focus *is* your technology, but there is also magic that uses modern technology in some part of the process. To go about this you might use the device itself as a focus either intentionally or unintentionally. Using a device as a focus involves having your device somehow involved while you’re doing spellwork. Some do this by having their device playing music to help them focus and others do this by having their phone contain the words of the spell they’re reading. Others will intentionally include their devices by having that be the very object they focus on with the intention that the connection the device has to the internet and beyond will carry the spell to its intended recipient.
Digital Sigils
Digital sigils are sigils that instead of being drawn on paper or something solid exist digitally.  The pictures and icons have power, but they aren’t drawn or created on paper. This can give them versatility and can be very easy to duplicate. They can be drawn using any art program. They’ve been used in places like homescreens, profile pictures or just sent as images. In most other ways they work identically to sigils.
Places to Put Spells
Technomancy also opens the door to more places to subtlety hide spellwork. You could put spells in the notes of a computer code, in the metadata of a file, or hidden in a digital image. While tech can constitute physical pieces of modern technology, technomancy can also constitute magic that lives in the digital spaces we might spend a great deal of our time in.
Everything Fucking Breaks
One thing I’ve come to hear one should learn to get used to if they plan to incorporate technology into their craft is that the devices used will start to act weird as shit. I leave the objective truth of this to the practitioners themselves, but it is something reflective of my own personal experience.
Turns out once you start breaking down the confines for how incredibly sensitive electronic objects are supposed to work, they start to get a little squirrely. Depending on how long you do this, however, you might just break even with how many things break way faster than they have any business and how many things last way longer than they have any business because of sheer force of staring into the eyes of that small bottle of lightning we’ve captured that thinks it’s hot fucking shit that is NOT going to crash on me 2 hours into writing my paper.

Tucker receives a phone call at the crack of dawn from a very pissed off Sam.
---
Ectoberhaunt Day 1: Technomancy/Botanomancy
Tucker held the pillow on either side of his head, trying to drown out the incessant ringing of his phone. He hoped that it would go to voicemail, and whoever it was that decided to call him at the ass crack of dawn would take a hint. His hopes were dashed as his phone immediately began ringing again.
He lifted the pillow off of his head with a groan, opening his eyes just enough to see his phone. He fumbled for it blindly, before finally hitting the accept button. There was a moment of blessed silence, before the shrill alarm was replaced with Sam’s shrill yelling.
“Tucker Foley!” she said.
“That’s my name, don’t wear it out,” Tucker said, voice still thick with sleep.
“Care to explain why I entered my greenhouse today, only for the “Let It Die” song from the Lorax to start playing at max volume?” That was her fake nice voice she used against her parents. Tucker was dead next time he saw her.
He snorted anyway. “Revenge for replacing my wires with vines. Obviously.”
“Obviously? Tucker, you replaced my sun lamps with disco balls! My plants could die, Tucker!"
"Well, you didn't seem to care about my PDA dying when you decided to make the display screen a moss bed."
"Yea, but that was only because you tried to make my zinnias into some kind of cyborg creature! And besides, its not like your PDA can die."
Tucker gasped. "I'm going to tell Abigail you said that!"
"You don't have to, I'll tell it myself. And it won't have any reaction. Because it is an inanimate object!"
"If you're using that argument, then plants are also inanimate objects," Tucker pointed out.
"Yes, but plants are alive. There's a difference."
"Tech is alive too," Tucker said, rolling out of bed. He wasn't going to be allowed to fall back to sleep. "It can die, and things can only die if they were alive in the first place."
"You are the single most pigheaded person on the planet," Sam said.
"I'll take that as a compliment. I'll see you at school!" Tucker went to hang up the phone.
"You better prepare yourself, I'm going to make your life a living hell! With actually living things and not the fake life you-" Tucker hung up, cutting Sam off. Yeah, he was definitely dead for this. It was worth it.
He grabbed his glasses from the side table and made his way to the desk. He needed to start preparing the revenge for the revenge Sam was about to release on him.
