I was literally just thinking about how much molting would suck in the dorms because, while I know the “canon” for Tokoyami the furthest I’ll go is a mix of hair and feathers rather than just straight hair on a bird. But like full feathers?

Hell it would be hell. He could probably reach his pin feathers sure but actually seeing which ones are ready to be preened? Standing there for hours with his arms over his head trying to find all of them? Absolute hell. Dark shadow tried to help but sometimes the fine motor skills needed are too hard for her so he’s on his own.

Izuku though has the perfect pinch/scratch technique that just makes him melt in their lap. Clever fingers finding all of his pin feathers and working so gently not to harm them as they break the waxy coating and make sure his feathers lay right.

Their eyes always light up whenever Fumikage brings them something even if it’s just a pretty green rock he found on one of his walks. They never mention the behavior for what it is, even when the gifts go from rocks and flowers he found to gleaming bracelets and hair pins that catch the light just right that Izuku wears whenever they’re around the dorms.

(No one mentions it when spring rolls around and Fumikage is practically glued to Izuku’s side, glaring at anyone who draws to close. At least, not after he and dark shadow out Bakugou through a wall for being his usual rude self to Izuku.
