RICK AND MORTY S7 EP 10 SPOILERS
THIS EPISODE WAS SO GOOD! My favorite part is that we get more of a look into who Dianne was as a person.
I always thought that she was smart or was at least a lover of science like Rick was, considering I don’t think it’s likely Rick would have married someone who didn’t share his love of science.
We’ve been able to get hints before of what her personality might have been like through Ricks Garage:
Tumblr media
and Ricks Car:
Tumblr media
Both have been modeled after Diane and use her voice and both of which have always been sassy or sarcastic towards him.
We also know that Summer reminds Rick of Diane as he’s said twice before in S6 Ep1 and S7 Ep 7 and we all know what Summers personality is like lol
We’ve now gotten the best glimpse at what Diane was like and a hint of what Ricks job was before he invented portal travel:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s seems he might have met Diane
1) while he had been working for the government and she may have also been a scientist employed by them
Or 2) she had been arrested by the robot that Rick had built while working for the feds.
(Either way both options are funny)
We see that Diane went to university and received a masters degree and probably loved science like Rick did
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see how her personality is similar to his when they join a drinking contest together, but also how Diane might have been more of a “party person” than Rick was when they were in college.
(I mean this episode suggested she was arrested by a law enforcement drone Rick built)
Tumblr media
Considering how she comments on how he used to be a “lightweight” and later on tells him that “her dying made him cooler” (suggesting he didn’t used to be the drunk unhinged man that we’ve become so accustomed to seeing him as) we can assume that she was probably the unhinged one
Tumblr media
IN CONCLUSION DIANE IS A SMART AWESOME BADASS WOMAN THAT NERDY YOUNG RICK FELL HEAD OVER HEELS FOR BECAUSE HE THOUGHT SHE WAS COOL IN THIS ESSAY I WILL-

Gonna try to watch ep 3 today but I just wanted to explain a bit of why the claiming sequence and Annabeth throwing Percy in the lake in ep 2 bothered me.
The first reason I already mentioned in the big liveblog post: setting the scene at the canoe lake paints Annabeth in an unflattering light. In the book, her decisions are strategic in nature and make sense. She puts Percy as a border guard, trusting that Clarisse is going to bite bc of her need for revenge. Clarisse and the Ares cabin being distracted by Percy leaves their team without their best players, allowing Luke to win the game -- Clarisse is livid that Annabeth has outplayed her. Annabeth also actually SEES Percy get pushed into the creek and how the water gives him strength, so she can after the hellhound attack tell him to step into it again.
The show *kinda* does the same but not really? She just leaves Percy in the middle of the forest, and the way Clarisse approaches him does not make it seem like she was actively hunting him. It's /possible/ she put him on the top of the hill to be seen too but? Without the book that was kinda unclear. Clarisse also straight up says she doesn't care about winning, so we get no payoff about Annabeth's strategy and how smart she actually played it. And of course, they do a whole bit by the canoe lake but Percy doesn't fight in the water at all. Ofc, the idea here is Annabeth figured it out from the toiletwater shenanigans, but then why have to test him further? It takes away from her own anxieties and biases, how she didn't /want/ to see that Percy was a Poseidon kid. Now she just knows and is smug about it. It's not too poorly done, just less nuanced.
The second reason is more important to me tho: I don't like that Annabeth physically pushes Percy in the lake bc in the first book she doesn't really physically press, hurt or bother him, no matter how often he thinks that she will.
And it was a pattern I found extremely sweet. It's implied Percy comes from a physically abusive household, or at the very least the difficult way he was raised lent him to always end up bullied, getting in fights, and getting punished for one or both. He's always tense and defensive, he always expects the worst. And I always loved that Annabeth NEVER lived up to that subconscious expectation, not even when they're not properly friends yet. It goes from Annabeth pulling her knife and he expects her to hurt him but she doesn't, to Percy arriving from Ogygia and thinks she's gonna punch him and she hugs the heck out of him instead.
Of course, it's just not something Rick bothered to keep going forward: see Annabeth's infamous judo flip. For the record, I've seen the many posts talking about it like she was abusive in this.. She really wasn't. Heck, her throwing Percy off a cliff later on and stuff like that isn't bad either, he's trying to showcase the trust they DO have in each other. But it STILL broke a pattern I REALLY loved in the books before it - if this was Percy's pov, he would probably imagine she looked angry enough to flip him, and then she WOULD. She was anxious and hurting and afraid, it was valid, and it was a cute little moment, but it still makes me kinda sad (I still maintain that she should have hugged him first, THEN flipped him before he could react, heh).
I think - bc I havent watched the new ep yet - that what Rick is going for is trying to ACTUALLY give Percy and Annabeth a rivals to friends to lovers arc, cause in TLT they never really had that. It was Annabeth trying to be his rival and Percy getting annoyed by her but at most he's just "okay but WHY do we have to?? WHY can't we get along??".
and that's FINE. It's cute in its own way. It just immediately breaks that pattern of Annabeth never really living up to Percy's negative expectations. Percy has been thrown around, physically and emotionally, for years. Annabeth is doing something similar here- she didn't need to be physically mean to him and "humiliate" him so he'd get in the lake, it's no wonder she pisses him off and he wants nothing to do with her. It's probably gonna make their eventual friendship/romance feel very nice. I just. REALLY liked that pattern, and it was one of the things lost in adaptation that I really miss :(

hey so “find me” dropped on premiere and i just watched it, so you know what that means??
it’s review time!
(super rambly as usual) spoilers under the cut
before i say anything, let me say, IT’S FINE, Y’ALL. as predicted. people are gonna be dramatic bc there are daryl/leah scenes, but like...we been knew? and some of them were rly important caryl-wise. (tbh, the episode was kind of boring and just a set-up for other stuff, lmfao)
okay, review:
opening credits, which i think most of us have already seen, were cute. obvi there was some weird tension with daryl that leads to the coming-to-a-head thing at the end, but their banter is still cute af
they went fishing and daryl’s reaction to carol was adorable, and there’s an important parallel later on, so bookmark this
similarly, there’s an important parallel to carol’s “the dead catch up to us eventually”/daryl’s “i ain’t gonna let it”, so bookmark that, too
dog is the instigator for the flashbacks, so if you wanna blame anyone, blame him. he races to the cabin, which for some reason daryl, who spent five years in this forest, seemed surprised to see? didn’t you literally map out that whole area, my dude? whatever
cue flashback!
i might have the scene order mixed up, but i think it starts with daryl being all sad by himself, and then dog as a puppy shows up and he’s like “!!! a dog!!!” which is v cute, and then he runs back off. we don’t meet leah yet
we see carol and daryl having a conversation while standing on opposite sides of a river for no reason except to probably symbolize distance or maybe covid, lol. the conversation basically goes:
carol: things are different
daryl: yeah
carol: how long are you gonna be out here?
daryl: -shrug emoji-
carol: i get why you’re out here, and i’d join you if things weren’t...
daryl: different
carol: yeah
daryl: yeah. anyway, it’s gonna rain, and also i’m having emotions, so ttyl
the end
at some point we see daryl sitting with an extremely unhappy face while it pours rain on him in the dark, and i want that as a reaction gif IMMEDIATELY
also the rain destroys his “where in the world is rick grimes?” map, which makes him v upset and scream-y, and we get the idea that he might be going a bit bonkers being all alone looking for a dead (or, ig, kidnapped by helicopter) man
in present day carol finds the note, and is like “oh dunk, she lived here??” so she knew about leah, and daryl’s like, “i already told you everything,” and carol’s like, “no you didn’t,” so we go back to flashbacks (but i’m still not sure what parts carol didn’t already know?? whatever, it’s not that important)
i’m just gonna hit the highlights of the flashbacks bc they were not that thrilling:
first time daryl meets leah the dog leads him to her cabin, and leah ties him to a chair and holds a gun to his head being like, “what are you doing on my land?” bc apparently you can claim whole forests during the apocalypse, and daryl says very little, and eventually she lets him go
next time dog finds daryl and he brings her back and leah is like, “the dog likes you” and they’re kinda flirty, and then daryl says very little and leaves
next time daryl is surrounded by walkers and leah shows up and helps and they hide in a tree and are awkwardly close to each other and daryl cannot handle the close physical contact so when the walkers pass he says very little except to tell her to never come back again, lmfao
the next flashback is my favorite bc daryl just fucking
goes to leah’s cabin and throws a fish at the door???
i laughed for ten years
he throws a fucking fish and then stands there for a minute like “is she gonna notice that i gave her a fish??” like, no, dumbass, you didn’t even knock, you just threw a fucking fish at her fucking door, what is wrong with you??
no wonder it’s taken him and carol so long if he thinks throwing fish at people is a smooth move. boy has NO fucking game
anyway, leah gets him back by finding him and throwing the fish at his head, being like, “wtf, don’t throw fish on my porch?” which, fair, leah
IMPORTANT CARYL PARALLEL (from here on out known as “caryllels”) #1: so earlier i mentioned the carol fish thing, and apparently the same thing happened with leah, where she speared a fish on her first try and daryl was like “tf?” v blatant “we are supposed to be thinking about carol and daryl’s relationship during this scene” sort of thing
leah’s backstory is bland. had a family, they got eaten or disappeared or something. she, her adopted son, and dog’s mom got away, but the kid was bit, and died the same day dog was born, bc ig when god closes one door, he replaces your dead son with a puppy, or however the idiom goes
ONLY PART THAT GOT ME LEGIT EMOTIONAL:
leah asked daryl who he lost, and he says, “my brother”
asklfdjaslfdjskl
god i miss rick
i hated rick for so long and now i miss him so much
but i digress
IMPORTANT CARYLLEL #2: leah and daryl have the same “the dead get you eventually”/”i ain’t gonna let it” conversation as caryl had earlier, only daryl is playing the role of carol in this scenario, so again we’re supposed to be comparing the two relationships. lemme get through the rest of the summary and then i’ll tell you my opinion on what that means
fuck what even happens next?
i have these out of order bc they were all the fucking same, but the two of them get closer, and there is the vaguest suggestion of sex ever. you literally only see daryl’s hand
then jump-cut to them sitting at the table being emo, ig bc daryl was gonna go back to look for rick for a bit, and leah is like “who do you belong with? your brother you won’t stop looking for? your family that you left? [side note: that seemed rather pointed, like, “hey hoe, you abandoned your family, that was kind of a dick move”] or me?” and he says he doesn’t know, and she’s like “yeah you do, now choose”
jump-cut to caryl scene where carol finds him at the river and says that she won’t be visiting as much, and daryl’s like “k” and they have a brief argument where daryl’s all snippy, like, “what? do you want my permission for you to move on with your life? i’m not still emo about the fact that you’re moving on with your life, and i also don’t think it’s contextually significant that every time you show up in my flashbacks you explicitly mention that you’re married and have a kid,” and carol is like, “bro, you need to Get Your Shit Together and come home”
jump-cut to daryl having what i’m assuming is an epiphany that carol/fam have all moved on while he was out being emo, and so he decides to go be with leah, except, plot twist! she’s gone. the picture of her and her son is gone, but dog is still there. daryl leaves the note, which says, “i belong with you, find me”
for those freaking out about the wording about the note, may i remind you that she specifically asked, “do you belong x, x, or with me?” so he was just answering the question
aaaaaand back to present day
carol is like, “what do you think happened to her?” and daryl is all -shrug emoji-, and then she’s like, “...do you think she might have just...you know...left?” and daryl gets rull offended, which was kind of funny
(she probably just left, bud)
carol tells daryl to stop thinking that when people leave it’s bc of him, and connie’s name gets thrown into the mix, and daryl gets a “oh here we fucking go” look on his face, and it sets him off
he said basically what we were already spoiled for. “you just want to run, you don’t know when to stop, i shouldn’t have taken you off the boat bc you still just want to run” etc
and carol looks fucking HEARTBROKEN, which hurt me, and she goes into the other room and we end the episode with daryl staring forlornly out of the window
the end
okay
so quick analysis
i think the significance of this episode is supposed to be so we have an understanding of why daryl is suddenly so !teamfamily, and !teamfuture, and how badly he wants carol to be there with him. at one point, one of them even says, “this isn’t about leah, or connie,” or anyone but the two of them. the title “find me” feels significant, bc the whole episode is daryl grappling with where he’s supposed to go, and what his purpose is, and by the end, he says to carol, “i know where i belong,” (implying, with her and the fam), pulling us full-circle. in the first flashback onward he is lost, but by the end he is found -cue amazing grace-
daryl and leah were flirty, but to me it felt very much like something that was just being used as daryl character development. we barely got anything that juicy between the two of them (except the fish throwing thing, that was amazing), and i still don’t think that it would make any sense, regardless of the showrunner, to pair daryl up with some rando after having so many other choices that people would have preferred. i don’t think we’re meant to #endgame ship it, so much as we are supposed to be like, “oh, ok, daryl learned the power of family and stability and leveled up, -you know what that is? growth gif-” as a result, i literally have no idea what leah’s role is gonna be in s11, but i don’t think it’ll be a huge plot point
so now we firmly know where daryl stands. he is all about moving forward, not looking back, and doing the best he can, and he’s frustrated bc when he took carol off the boat he wanted her to be in the same place as him so that they could grow together, but she wasn’t and isn’t there yet
so my guess is that what’s next for carol’s storyline is her reaching that same zen-level daryl’s at
once they’re both there, then they get to ride off into the sunset and make passionate love under the moon casting shadows over the vast desert wasteland
whew
anyway
tl;dr: idk, episode was fine, if not kinda boring. lots of caryllels. can i go back to writing my vietnam war au now?
the end
(stay hype, stan kang, and get daryl to call carol sweetheart 2k21),

Pye Family AU - Birthday Headcanons
It’s my birthday and in order to cope I’m dumping this on y’all.
Hello TYO fandom, it’s the weirdo who rarely posts about how she’s a tad too fond of Neil Pye again. :) Also if you don’t know, the “Pye Family AU” is the name I’ve given my self ship/self insert AU.
Warning: Neil and I have a child because I like to pROJECT. So if you don’t like fan children or anything involving canon x OC relationships then just shhh please. (No one’s said anything mean yet, but I always get nervous.)
ANYWAYS, let’s finally get into the actual Headcanons why don’t we. Bullet point format bc idk how to write lately.
*Shane Madej voice* Here we go!
The day begins with Neil waking up to a toddler tugging on his sleeve.
He has to blink a few times before his three year old daughter comes into focus. She smiles brightly at Neil and whispers (rather loudly), “Papa! It’s Mummy’s birthday!”
Neil smiles back at the gleam in his daughter’s eyes. “Yes, babybee, it is mummy’s birthday.”
“We have to make her breakfast and a card before she wakes up!” Ophelia tugs harder on her father’s sleeve, causing him to finally get out of bed.
Before he leaves the bedroom, Neil gives his wife a kiss on her head and then he and Ophelia do their regular morning routine.
Once the pair make it to the kitchen they begin making french toast. [This means that Neil did most of the cooking. Ophelia got to pour in ingredients though!!]
“Papa, why doesn’t mummy like her birthday?” Ophelia innocently asks.
[Cue Neil PANICKING because how does he answer that to a four year old???]
“She just doesn’t, honey. But I’m certain she’ll love a card from you. Do you need help making it?”
[Great save, Mr. Pye.]
SO Neil writes “Happy Birthday Mummy” on a card and Ophelia begins scribbling away in the living room.
Eventually we have Mrs. Pye herself shuffling out of her bedroom with a sleepy smile. “French toast. Must be a special occasion.”
Ophelia gets up and screams “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” as loudly as she possibly can while excitingly showing her mother the scribbly card.
“Oh, right…Thank you baby.”
Mr. and Mrs. Pye exchange proper good morning kisses and everyone eats breakfast.
“Mummy, why don’t you like your birthday?”
[Again, Neil’s panicking.] “I dunno, baby, I just don’t. My birthday makes me sad, I suppose.”
“But birthdays are supposed to be FUN!”
“They are. Mummy has fun on your birthday, and on Daddy’s birthday, and sometimes on her own birthday. But it just makes her sad sometimes.”
Ophelia’s little baby wheels are turning for the rest of breakfast, but things go on like usual once cartoons are involved.
The day goes on as usual until Rick and Vyvyan come over.
Vyvyan’s obnoxiously singing happy birthday as he just walks right into the house as if he owns the fuckin place. Rick’s yelling at him to knock it off.
Rick still brought presents though bc 1. He loves gift giving and 2. It’s been a whole week since he saw his goddaughter last, she needs a new teddy bear.
(Rick darling she’s 3, she won’t love you any less if you don’t bring her a new teddy every other time you see her. I promise.)
[Also cue Rick being all “I KNOW you don’t like it when I buy you birthday presents but shut up and look at the leather bound journal I got you. I know you’ll fill it in less than a month but it’s the thought that counts.”]
ANYWAYS. Neil makes dinner and the adults have a few drinks and chat. [Vyvyan ends up preforming Teddy Bear Surgery because one of Ophelia’s bears had a small tear.]
Dinner goes smoothly then BOOM. Neil secretly bought a birthday cake. (Just kidding everything’s still fine.)
More obnoxious happy birthday singing.
When it’s time to put Ophelia to bed she sleepily asks her mother “Did this birthday make you sad?”
(Oh my heart—) “No, baby. This birthday didn’t make me sad.”
“Promise?”
“Pinky promise.”
(Yes I’m sobbing shut up.)
Rick and Vyvyan stay for a few more hours and then they go home too.
Neil watches as his wife begins tidying up the living room a bit with the most loving and affectionate smile. “Did you mean what you said to Ophelia earlier?”
“Yea, actually. For once my birthday wasn’t complete dog shit.”
Neil laughs and puts on the radio. We end the night slow dancing together in the living room bc I said so.

-> shimizu kiyoko.
𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐭; kiyoko evokes memories of her lost love.
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬; mentions of death, grieving.
𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭; 1.4k
𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐞; angst.
𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞; yeah u should listen to mr loverman by rick montgomery bc i wrote it while listening to that song 😃 yes i killed the reader what y'all gonna do bout it
↳ main masterlist
Tumblr media
kiyoko couldn't remember a time withouth your bright smile in her days, scaring the gray clouds away. you would sit outside her house, right by her side, sharing laughs and secrets. kiyoko kept those memories lock inside her mind, as her most precious secret, and she would always do it, no matter how long it passed.
"kiyo look! i made a ring with a flower!" her eyes, hid behind a big pair of glasses, showed amazement. she didn't care that your hands were covered in dirt after playing on the garden for hours while she read, safely on a bench, following your every move. "give me your hand" you demanded, grabbing it by yourself without giving her time to react.
despite your usual energic being, like most eight years old, whenever you were around your friend, she felt like fine china. a sudden feeling of fear ran down her back, accompanied by a warmness in her belly. you took her ring finger, placing your newest work on it with more care than ever in your life, affraid you would hurt her. to you, and everyone actually, kiyoko was like a porcelain doll. her fair skin, her beautiful face, her sweet voice, confirmed your hypothesis. the first time you saw kiyoko in the playground, you had to ask your parent if she was a real girl, because you've never seen someone that pretty.
"o-only married couples share rings, y/n" she said quietly, going over your gift with her free hand. leaving aside her complain, she seemed to be delighted with it.
"then we'll get married, and i'll give you all the rings in the world!"
shimizu had those words inked on her brain for quite a while, even now ten years later, they would come back. she wasn't sure if it was a memory or a dream anymore. her phone vibrated on her night table, showing a text from tanaka saying he was on his way there, with a sigh, she got up from her bed, thinking on making something to eat for her boyfriend. on days like that, she would prefer being alone, but she couldn't say no to him. he was good to her.
the girl walked down the hall which connected the living room with the dorms, looking at the walls, searching for you with her eyes. a smile formed on her lips when she saw the picture, you eternally kissing her cheek, grabbing onto her face, making her smile more brightly than ever in her life. she thanked her mom internally for taking that picture, after all, it was the only one you two had. her fingers reached your image, following your traces as if that way, she could actually feel your skin against her again. kiyoko always regretted not kissing you one more time, not holding you in her arms for a second longer.
"try to sleep, or you'll end up falling asleep in the middle of the race tomorrow" kiyoko smiled at your sleepy voice, she knew you were sleeping when she decided on calling you, despite knowing you wouldn't get mad, she still felt a little guilty for waking you in the middle of night.
"i can't sleep, i'm too nervous" it was your turn to smile, thinking on how cute she must've looked while talking. it was almost a routine, her anxiety appearing before an important competition. "can you talk to me, please?"
her wishes were granted, you started talking about the last show you watched, in a low, soft tone. you were aware kiyoko felt safe with you, safe enough to sleep with you, and how she found comfort on you. you still felt reluctlant to her only being able to sleep at the sound of your voice, but her kitten like snores came sooner than usual. you found yourself laying in bed, eyes closed, listening to her sounds, and a while later, you too fell in morpheous arms.
a knock on the door scared her memories away, leaving her on the verge of tears. she hurried to the bathroom, trying to wash off the hints of sadness in her face before letting ryunosuke in. he kissed her as a greeting, hugging her by the waist. kiyoko wanted to get away, like the act was disrespectful to your memory. she knew she was wrong though, you wouldn't want her sulking for the rest of her life, thinking of what could've been if life wasn't so damn awful.
"brought dinner" smiled her boyfriend, not realizing what was she going through. it itsn't his fault, kiyoko thought, he doesn't even know she existed.
they set the table for two, talked a little while eating and watched a movie. tanaka wasn't good at taking hints, but even him sensed there was something wrong. he excused himself at midnight, saying he needed something from his house for work tomorrow, maybe she needed some time alone. kiyoko was grateful, because she kept thinking she was cheating on you. so stupid, i can't cheat on someone who isn't here.
kiyoko laid in bed once again, hugging a pillow. it always happened around this time of the year, she should be used to it by now, according to her old therapist. except that she wasn't, not at all. you were always on her mind, but these days she just couldn't escape. it killed her to think about all the broken promises, the things left unsaid. you had plans together, so many plans. in middle school, she longed the day you would travel with each other, conquering the world by your side. she wanted to go back home and find you there, kiss you every night and every morning, have children with you and grow old together as you had done until that day, to know it would never be possible was enough to make her feel miserable.
she kept a box under her bed, almost empty, with the last few things she had of you. a shirt you wore to sleep, a rushed note saying how much you loved her and an old stuffed bear kiyoko won for you at a carnival. that was all she could find in her house of you after the incident, all she was allowed to keep. the first few months she couldn't even bring herself to look at your belongings, how was it possible that your whole existence was reduced to this? you were so much things to kiyoko, nowhere near what those stuff represented. you were love, you were happiness, you were freedom, you were all kiyoko wanted in life and you were ripped away from her.
at two a.m, she found herself once again awake, but she was well aware of the fact that you weren't there to save her anymore. what was she supposed to do when she needed you, more than ever? in a mess of tears, she went outside, headed for her car. the air was cold, hostile, like it was warning her to stay home. the mostly empty streets were perfect for her desperate speed, barely stopping at red lights. she made a road of twenty minutes in ten, a road she hadn't done in quite a while. nonetheless, she knew what she was looking for was still there. kiyoko ran out her car when she got there, crossed the gate, gaining a suspicious look from the guard. she walked towards you, knowing the way a little too well for someone who didn't visit in years.
your name read in the grave, and the remaining force she had in her legs was suddenly gone. tears drowned her sight, holding tightly to the ground beneath hear. sometimes, kiyoko questioned herself if you really existed, she lost all contact with your family after, not being able to see anyone who looked like you, but in that moment, all her supressed memories came back. your first kiss, a peck on the lips, so fast that it might've not even happened, only it did, and it was followed by deeper, better kisses, and eternal love declarations. the first time she held your hand, how flustered you got over her taking the initiative. falling asleep in your arms, you caressing her hair. you kissing her strech marks, promsing you loved her just as she was. the image of your happy self, bursting into cheerings everytime she won a race, filled with pride. all your picnics together, beach days, roadtrips, night snick outs.
everything was real, kiyoko was sure of it. your love for her was real, her love for you couldn't be stopped, not even by death. it hurt so bad, all she wanted to do was see you one more time, feel your warm body against hers. she needed you with her, and it was tearing her apart.

The Episode of Lost Opportunities AKA 2x16
SO I wrote this before watching the promo, then I did and now I know most of us are just FREAKING out about next week (and I’m freaking out the most because ummm they’remakingmyfanficintoanactual EPISODE!!! How does one deal with this????)  but if you want a break from freaking out, here are some thoughts on last night’s episode!
Tumblr media
So even though 2x16 was perfectly enjoyable, I’m going to have to officially re-name it “The Episode of Lost Opportunities” because there were so many plots and just tid-bits they could have done great things with.
So yeah not really a review today, instead I’m going to (in true Jenny Nicholson fashion) make a numbered list of things I think they should have added /done something with, in no particular order.
Miss nr. 1. Not having Higgy tease Magnum back with British pet names. I’m honestly devastated by this. Like what would a little sarcastic “come on luv” or a “Dearie, come here” from Juliet have cost them? The closest we got was Babe take our selfie.
Nr. 2. Not having Mr. Dorky Helpful But Cute guy ask Higgy out. I really thought this was where it was going with him being all “it’s just our second date, we met online” and yeah even though he looked about 12, it would have fit the episode.
Plus they could have had Magnum standing to the side gesturing like “go for it” and her either saying yes or no and later her and Magnum having a little chat about it. The Yes with him being all “I convinced you to do it” proud and also mildly jealous. The No, with her being all “he’s a suspect” or “he went on a love bus tour!” or “I’m not ready, bc of the dead fiance, remember him?”
Nr. 3. Which takes us neatly to - drowned guy should be bringing up some feelings for Juliet as I’m fairly certain back in Day of The Viper they mention something about how Richard washed up on the shores of something-something (I mean obvs he was shot before but I’d still imagine some associations there).
Also her own almost drowning in 1x19 (even if this episode’s dude wasn’t drowned, it did seem so at first and he was still in the water). I just feel maybe there could have been some feelings here that our favorite duo actually talked about. Just a nice little call back to either one of those would have been great. One line! Is that too much to ask for?
Tumblr media
Nr. 4 on the list of missed opportunities is for me going to be Theresa (Teresa?). TC’s old flame. And this is a big one!
I honestly would have loved it if they went with this - as in have him not be so damned noble and let the childhood sweetheart go. Like, why not have them actually try to make a go at it?
Tumblr media
Maybe she could have been there with just her boyfriend rather than husband to make it less of a thing and then maybe give it an episode or two and have them talk over the internet before she comes back and they get back together! Because why can’t anyone have a girlfriend? Like why do all of the guys need to be such lone wolves?
I mean, I get it, because they are a family/brothers, but having even just one more minor female recurring would be interesting and would add dimension to the gang and characters!
Now this is like one of those random side plots that don’t really do much because in the end nothing has changed. Other than us learning a little more about TC, which is nice, but it doesn't seem like it will actually impact future episodes and didn’t really connect a whole lot with the episode. TC is just off getting closure to a relationship we never knew he needed closure for. Which means we’re not super invested.
I feel like this is a bit of a problem with the show in general. We get really nice and moving and character developing stuff for characters we haven’t been shown to need, as with Kumu last week and now TC. Rick and his dying “dad” Ice-Pick and even Shammie with his lying army buddy. Even Gordon and his son. Jin and his sisters and that’s why he steals.
These things could all have had 100 times more impact if they’d established these problems/ relationships earlier. Like if we had learned Kumu's husband had cheated on her and had a child with another woman (or maybe that Kumu is a bit sad she never had kids on her own) sometime before - over the past 30 episodes, wouldn’t last week’s episode, where she finally reaches out to the husband’s kid, would have been so much more emotionally satisfying?
Same if Theresa had been mentioned as TC’s great love and maybe him being sad some episodes ago (or even back in 1x19 when his dad doesn't come to visit - that could have been about him seeing a post about her getting married and him being upset about it and connecting with Rick about that.)
Like I get that maybe sometimes they just throw random things in there but at the same time why do they need to do that? Want to do that? Isn’t there someone keeping track of the big picture? Giving characters long running story arcs over a season or even multiple ones should be someone’s job.
If it’s not, I volunteer!
Seriously Lenkov I’m currently unemployed and totally up for it, just give me a call! I already know we think the same... (Marriage of Inconvenience).
Nr. 5 Not having Gordon comment something on the fact that he’s been called to a murder scene on a Island Love tour bus site by his favorite PI duo. Like yeah they’d have told him why they were there but he still should have teased them about it! Like “What were you two doing here anyways? Something going on?” and both of them giving a horrified “NO!”.
Nr. 6 when the guy says “is he crazy?” after Magnum jumped into the waterfall pool thing, not having Higgy be all “Yes, he is”, then jumping in after him, was a huge miss. That would have been so funny and shown how much alike they are (even if Higgy will always be the sane one...)
Nr. 7. Not having Magnum and Higgins try to pretend to be together when the bus driver catches them. I mean come on! At least some more hand holding! Snuggling? I’m not saying to just kiss already okay maybe I am saying that.
Tumblr media
Nr. 8. Not one real Miggy moment in this episode? I mean lots of bickering and maybe for a moment with her being all “well done” when he tells the cheating a-hole he’s an idiot for having an affair. And if the camera had stayed on him for a few seconds more when they’re toasting at the end we know we’d have gotten a Mangum looks had Higgy soft heart eyes moment. But we didn’t. But other than that, not really much feel-y moments even if we got plenty of cute stuff.
Nr. 9.  Sandy and how they find out Sandy is the killer! Like what? She cut the bus’s fuel line  which makes no sense, she’d wouldn’t want to trap herself right?  Sandy if you’d just not cut the fuel line and stayed with the group, you’d have been taken back to civilization and no one would have figured you out! Or you should have left right away on car/4-wheeler you must have prepared for escape, not stayed around! You could have left down long before the cops got there or the autopsy revealed anything. Same for why does she give her knife to her date? Why not just throw the knife away? She’s in the jungle, big chance it will be found. Not.
And why kill someone in the middle of nowhere, making yourself one of the, like, 8 suspects? Like come on girl, for a hit woman you’re not that clever. Also if you had a gun, why strangle a guy 2x your size? That’s not a smart plan either. Just get a silencer and shoot the guy when he’s on his morning jog back in the city or something! I feel like the only reason they had her be the baddie was so Magnum/ Higgins could say “Shot through the heart” // “How is that for poetic” all dramatically after Gordon took her down.
Tumblr media
Problem nr. 10. Tied in with this I just think Sandy as the killer should have not happened.
In fact, I think having the sweet loving wife as the killer would have been wonderful.
It would have been a much better twist! Dead guy could have been poisoned (traditional how wive’s kill their husbands… just saying) and then he fell off the cliff. They could surely have found some weird clue to that, like maybe his throat is all swollen and stuff to make them think foul play and then when they’re moving the body towards the end, Magnum realizes it’s poison.
But Higgy stayed back with the ‘grieving’ asthmatic widow and oh no! Must rush back to save my one true love platonic partner.
We could have had some sort emotional moment where the Wife got Higgy with a knife at her throat and is all “He was supposed to be my best friend, my partner, my everything and he did X” and Magnum being all “Well that woman you’re holding a knife to is my (best) friend, my partner and she didn’t do anything so please put the knife down!” Or something.
I mean I know that sounds like I’m off in Miggy fanfiction land but honestly I think they could have made it work (this is hilarious when re-reading after watching next weeks trailer). She could have teased him about the best friend bit but then she could have been all soft, “Thomas. Thank you. I’m glad you're my friend.” And the episode could have ended with how love just never seems to end well for anyone which would have been way more on theme for the vibes in this episode (and frankly whole show because no one gets to have a romantic relationship for more than, like, 3 episodes).
Nr. 11. Higgins hair. Not putting it in the fluffy “Blood In the Water” style was a big miss because that hair made her look so freaking adorable. Just saying. I mean both my babies are always adorable I just love the poofy fluff hair from that ep!
Tumblr media
Anyways, those were my 11 missed opportunities for episode sixteen!
My fave bits were Magnum and Higgins fake couple thing at the start. Magnum being all like “While we’re up here we might as well take a selfie!” and then when talking to the old couple his, *I’m just gonna keep my hand here, on your waist! I’m real smooth* move.
I enjoyed the fast action pack-ed-ness of the whole ep and the pretty Hawaii scenery we got. The more I watch Magnum PI the more I want to visit Hawaii (one day when there is no Corona, I’m much richer and 20h airplane rides are suddenly comfortable, I will!) and just enjoying all the amazing natural beauty and stuff.
The Rick and TC’s interactions were also highlights, I loved the whole “just pretend to walk by”. Like so middle-school yet so relatable because who hasn’t done that when we’re like, is that Lisa from second grade? And just we walked down the cat food aisle perusing cat food (when we most def. don’t have a cat), just to check if it is indeed Lisa.
Also this made me crack up so hard.
Magnum: Muffin?
Higgy: Could you please not refer to me as a breakfast pastry.
That’s just so on point for Higgy I can’t even!
You guys agree with my missed opportunities? Or have any of your own for this or any other episodes?
______
(And who is desperately searching for a time machine to steal so it can be next week - right this minute!! LIKE!!! I’m still freaking out from the trailer.)

it’s been like forever since i’ve been to india and now all my cousins have children. yikes, i might have to invest in that rope hairband thing lol or maybe those child harnesses.
ahh you’re so right! like there’s so many family secrets that i didn’t know of until my grandma spilled the tea lmao.
ooh I’ve heard of aru shah, it was like published by rick riordan! I haven’t read it, but it seems super cool. the artwork for the books is so pretty though 🥺
i don’t think I’ve read the actual text but I’ve heard the stories growing up. i really want to read it on my own so i can get my own perspective on things.
i can’t believe you’re telugu and haven’t heard of dhee!! it’s a dance show and it’s been like running for 13 years?? i used to love it as kid, but the jokes are repetitive and kind of homophobic so yeah...
but dancee sounds cool and kind of similar to dhee lol
same!! i remember as a kid I always wanted a pen pal. handwritten letters make me soft cause like you took time of your day :)to write :) to me:))
also i can’t believe you like shadowhunters too. like stop, you’re stealing my identity. i do respectfully disagree malec in the books is so much better (even though i didn’t rlly watch the show, i just have a lot of opinions lmao)
completely unrelated, i am fully surprised that you’re 5’2 you give off tall person energy and i can say that cause i’m 5’8
mwah mwah (sorry this is so long and ily for putting up with my shit)
indi <3
actually. the summer we were planning to go was when the pandemic hit, and we cant go this summer either, so its been over three years (which i know isnt a lot compared to others, but due to covid and other things, there've been a lot of deaths in the family and i wont be able to go to their funerals and i need to stop talking about this or itll make me sad) and a lot of my friends got married 😔 some of them im okay with, but i have a few friends who are young and their husbands are iffy, and one friend im terrified for bc she just graduated seventh class and her dad married her off to a 40 year old and he does not seem like a good person, but i wasnt there to help and phone calls can only do so much. okay this is way too dark way too fast
lmao forget the grandmas, weddings are when the uncles open their mouths and spill every little secret their wives told them, i could make ten tv shows after spending half an hour with one uncle 😭
mhm, its by Roshani Chokshi but it was written under Rick Riordan Presents instead of her usual label, and you are soo right!! the covers are stunning, especially the one for the fourth book? could cry from the beauty (but maybe its bc John Rocco's interpretations of Rick's characters were ugly as fuck) (sorry John, your art style is cool but literally everyone hates how you drew nico)
no exactly, i do remember reading it but not any part of the stories that i havent heard from other people, so i want to read it on my own someday
i think i have vague memories of dhee, but i only recently started watching telugu shows lol. i watched this one called Nagini for a little while and that was cool but i lost interest when i came back to the us bc it was just too hard to find it. dancee+ is a bit homophobic, but there was one group who did vacking and one of the judges went on to explain the lgbtq+ origin of it and another judge joined in and no one was outright hostile about it, bare minimum i know, but it made me very happy
i knowww, i used to write letters to the universe when i was younger, mostly like "did you think i wouldnt notice. i just learned that word and now its everywhere. shut the fuck up universe." and did that up until seventh grade actually. you know, that was kind of cathartic, maybe i should start doing that again. listen here you little shit-
we literally... are the same person. i am having... a crisis
and idk i kind of swing back and forth between which one is better, but i usually say the show version is better bc alec never had that whole thing of trying to take away magnus' immortality after finding out how many people he'd been with like sir 😭✋🏽 he literally has been around since "the Dead Sea was a little pool of water feeling a bit poorly" (love that line). but also in the books theres a lot more development bc of that, plus we get to see their kids (max 🥺 and rafael that little bastard 🥺 aw remember when max said bapak for the first time 😭) and their wedding (idk if their wedding was in the show) so again, its back and forth. i havent actually seen the show either, so im probably not a valid person to have an opinion on this.
tall person energy just reminds me of finn and that whole "i know you" fiasco 😭 idk if you were there for that, i'll look back and see if i can link them in the next letter/ask/whatever this is *resists making a "what are we" joke*
you're 5'8??? *resists "hows the weather up there" joke* im trying my best to grow but im stuck i dont think ill be getting much taller than this 😔 im too old
mwah mwah mwah (three kisses bc i love talking to you and its not putting up with your shit, its a fun conversation and i wouldnt dream of doing anything else right now)
i love you indi <3

i’ve had an hc that dakota is native american for a long time now, and after reading this awesome post i was inspired and like “what if he and piper were cousins??” so let me share some things i’ve imagined about them so far (warning: this is one long ass post):
- they were both born and raised in tahlequah, oklahoma (not in a reservation tho bc there’s no cherokee reservation in oklahoma, rick’s an idiot who doesn’t research anything)
- dakota is two years older than piper and that made him a bit overprotective of her while growing up. even when they were kids, piper got a lot of attention from mostly other boys (which would later make her feel super self conscious of her own looks) and dakota would pick up on her discomfort and shoo away all of them in an instant
- like seriously, he’s a pretty observant kid and piper would always flinch when a boy got too close for comfort. so dakota was always more than ready to help her out
- imagine how overjoyed grandpa tom was when he found out he was going to be a grandpa, twice, in such a short span of time. dakota had barely just turned 1 year old when tristan announces the woman he’s dating is pregnant tom cried so much, bless him
- now grandpa is no fool though. he knew something was up with the ppl his children were dating, he knew they weren’t ordinary folks. and he suspected his future grandchildren wouldn’t be exactly ordinary either. and how right he was
- just a few months after he was born in september 1992, baby dakota was taken on a little trip with his mom and grandfather around tulsa and they came across a huge vineyard
- it’s january and it’s hecking cold (like 50ºF/10ºC) and the vines, as you’d expect, are basically dead. that’s when something remarkable happens: the plants start to reach out towards dakota and the closer he is to them, the livelier they get
- grandpa is shocked to say the least but he plays it cool. he just turns towards his daughter and calmly asks “care to explain please” to which she then proceeds to spill the beans about how she met the roman god of wine whose son is currently being held by grandpa tom
- tom is really surprised that his daughter dated an actual immortal deity from ancient times, or that they even exist at all (he thought greek myths, and therefore roman by extension, were a bunch of bull). yet at the same time he’d been suspecting the dude wasn’t completely human for a while now...
- in the end he happily accepts both his daughter’s love for bacchus (if that’s even who he really is) and the son they had, and never loves dakota any less even now that he knows he’s a demigod
- except they don’t tell tristan bc 1. bacchus told dakota’s mom to keep it a secret (whoops), 2. tristan’s a skeptic who doesn’t believe in any kind of myths so what’s the point and 3. tristan’s sweetheart is pretty high guard about her own identity and grandpa’s noticed this and he thinks she’s hiding the truth from his son for a good reason (again, he is such a skeptical man, he’d probably think they were all insane)
- april 1994. piper is born and an almost 2 y/o dakota is finally introduced to the cousin he’d been hearing so much about
- both love their grandfather and listening to stories about their culture. and grandpa loves that his grand-kids are so keen on learning
- they live a pretty happy childhood overall. apart from dakota’s innate abilities to making vines grow whenever he walks by (though he remains oblivious to this bc his mom goes to great efforts to ensure he doesn’t find out so soon, he’s still a little kid after all), none of his other powers manifest all that much when he’s a toddler. and neither do piper’s
- ofc, being demigods they’re constantly exposed to the danger of being discovered by monsters but they luck out and continue living in ignorant bliss of their godly parentage
- they love being outside. playing, napping, talking, whatever it is, they don’t like being indoors. they’re always running around everywhere, climbing trees, rolling around in the grass, etc it’s a very rare occurrence when they manage to return home with clean clothes
- they just have a looot of energy and they like using it. getting them to calm down is a challenge in itself, they’re always goofing around. whether they’re having a nice family dinner (food fights tend to occur more often than not), or watching cartoons before bedtime (reenacting cool fight scenes is a must!)
- but then one day, just a few weeks after his 8th birthday, dakota shows up at tristan’s house with his mom and she says she needs to talk with his uncle and grandfather
- the kids are told to go play for a little while in the backyard to let the grown ups have some privacy
- dakota is uncharacteristically quiet. piper notices it right away, how her cousin’s shoulders are slacked and his eyebrows furrowed in distress. she asks what’s wrong, what happened to make him so sad
- “i have to move away” he says. piper is shocked, starts asking why. why, where to, and can’t the whole family go with him?
- “no. just me. somewhere far away”. “but why?!”. “because it’ll be bad if i don’t”
- the rest of the day goes by in a blur. piper can’t understand what’s happening. why does dakota have to go all alone? why can’t her aunt go too? why don’t her dad or her grandfather try to stop them?
(- later, when piper demands her dad for explanations, tristan only says what his sister told him: that dakota needs to go somewhere that’ll be better for him, that piper’s aunt can’t take care of him by herself. grandpa tom tells her the same thing whenever piper turns to him but he knows. his daughter told him the truth)
- saying goodbye is the only moment that seems to last an eternity though. piper is full on crying and sobbing, holding on to dakota with all her strength and begging her cousin to stay, stay and everything will be okay bc he’ll be with her and all the people who love him
- dakota cries too, though not as hard. he’s barely keeping it together but he’s the older cousin and he needs to be strong for piper
- inside though he’s terrified of what’s happening to him. to him and to his mom and now his dear little cousin and his uncle and grandpa. he wants to stay but bacchus was clear during his sudden unexpected visit: he needs to go to the wolf house right away
- his mom takes him there. this goodbye is even more terrible than the previous one. in the midst of all the crying he promises that he’ll be okay, that he loves her and will visit as soon as he can
- dakota hadn’t had the fortune (or permission) of visiting his mom and granddad back in tahlequah often. and the few times he had managed, piper had been away with her dad on his trips looking for a job as an actor in los angeles
- one day, now 13 y/o, he was at his mom’s place with his grandfather too, just sitting and talking and enjoying each other’s company when they decided it was time to tell him the horrible news: his grandpa had been diagnosed with lung cancer
- tom reassured him all throughout his grandson’s hysterics that he felt fine and that he was at peace with the situation
- and then dakota asked the dreaded question
- “... how long?”
- “... soon”
- when dakota made it back to camp he started asking around for possible cures, talking with praetors and centurions and just about anyone who might help him
- though in the end he didn’t find any medicine that could possibly save his grandfather
- and it’s not like the romans really cared for helping outsiders either
- the day he got the news grandpa tom had passed away, just a little over 2 months later, he refused to leave his bunk bed for the remainder of it and it took his two centurions to force him out of it the next morning
(- dakota swears that, out of all the days he’d felt the most lonely and in need of the warm comfort of his family, that had been the most painful one he’d endured in his whole life)
(- he also wondered if piper had known about their grandfather’s condition, and for one moment he actually hoped she didn’t just so she could be spared of going through the same despair he and the rest of their family had)
(- he’d also wished, more ardently than ever before, to be able to hug his beloved little cousin again just like he had so many times years before)
- fast forward to 2010. dakota is standing with the rest of the romans at cj, staring at a greek ship that quickly approaches camp
- his long time friend jason is said to be on board and dakota is just dying to give the dude the longest and most bone crushing hug ever
- plot twist: it’s piper who gets the pleasure of receiving the longest and most bone crushing hug ever. but she returns it tenfold rip dakota’s back
- their reunion was a hazard mix of tears, laughter and wrestling. he and jason happily gave piper a tour of the camp, though tbh she didn’t really pay attention to much, catching up with her fave cousin was obviously the priority
- during her quest to save the world, she iris messages dakota as regularly as she can and they talk for hours on end, sharing stories from their past, their family, their beloved grandpa tom whom they missed terribly every single day, everything really
- piper confides in him how much her dad’s lack of interest and pride for cherokee culture has rocked her own, how growing up with him so absent from her life and so worried with rejecting everything cherokee/native american related had made her feel so uncomfortable in her own skin
- dakota takes all this in silence and just lets her get it all out. he hears her every complaint and insecurity and fear. then he starts telling her the stories their grandfather had told them
- he tells at least 2 different ones every night they talk, always with a smile on his face, always trying to replicate the exact same tone and pace their granddad used
- and it eventually gets piper to smile too
- one night it’s dakota who confesses how much he regrets not visiting tahlequah more often, how he wishes he’d spent more time with thomas before he’d passed away, how he wished he’d been with him during those last few days if not to just hear him going on and on about cherokee myths like he loved to
- that gets piper crying in no time. dakota cries too. they just spend a good 10 minutes sobbing together through their reflections in the watery rainbow, neither saying much
- “i’m glad he told us. the stories i mean”, dakota says when they’ve calmed down. “feels like he gave us little pieces of himself bit by bit that’ll never go away”
- “yeah... it really does”
- when the war’s finally over, piper and dakota visit each other often, though piper’s the one who goes to cj more often since dakota’s a centurion and has his plate full most of the time
- they’re still as goofy and energetic around each other as ever, like the time they spent away from each other was like clicking pause on a movie and now they’ve hit play and continued on from there
- still hate being trapped indoors. when there’s camp meetings they both need to attend they just can’t help but joke around. everyone else dreads going to those now thanks to these idiots
- dakota isn’t as chaotic as piper so he somewhat helps to keep that side of her in check
- when leo accompanies her during her visits though... no point in even trying to hold back this Mess, dakota’s tried before and it was the most stressful and tiring day of his fucking life
- piper constantly teases dakota about his crush on her half-brother michael. he very much regrets the day she ever saw how he acted around the son of venus (a blushy neck scratching mess)
- wow this is getting long fhdkds anyway!! they’re amazing kids who love each other to death and constantly support each other through good and bad times, and they’re proud af to be cherokee and they’ll treasure their beloved grandpa tom and his teachings till the end of their lives, and if anyone ever wants to hear a story, they’re the right kids to go to!

Then speak friend!!
trust me its impossible to shut me up about anything ever and none of the things I'm about to say will connect
I have unfortunately watched multiple episodes of the spinoff show emperor's new school which shows kuzco going to high school and it felt like like a slow slow decent into madness I recommend it entirely because I want someone else to have this mark on their soul
far more fortunately I am now watching the owl house finally and I am on but the second episode and I think I am losing my shit? eda sounds exactly as I assume she would. a cat man just disintegrated in front of my very eyes
since multiverses are just a thing its so very possible that instead of landing in hell for 30 years ford could up on mewni or smthng from star vs the forces of evil and get his hands on dimensional scissors and fall out of a hole in the fabric of everything onto his basement floor next to Stan like "hey" "what the absolute fuck"
words like supernatural and extraordinary are the worst kinds bc they describe things that are the exact opposite of their structures (super natural implies extra normal stuff but describes things that don't occur in nature and ya know) and I hate them so so much
I am still obsessed with how shifty is just like deadass stanfords fucking son what in the name
one or all of the pines's should have some kind of speech impediment specifically cuz I struggle with talking and project often ❤
invasion of the body snatchers is a neat movie I watched it like in October or something
I am now on the third episode of toh and this kid freaking out over stepping on a flower is like same. this other kid having an abomination in a pot is also like same.
I often think about ghost aus and should finish writing (or just rewrite cuz it sucks now qkxnwksnws) the one that I have
au where stan never breaks the project but they drift a part anyway and its just really very bitter and sad and stuff
similarly au where things just like work out that night and the point of it all is stanford ends up in gravity falls still and often calls up stan at unreasonable hours to infodump about the weird shit. this concept is important to me for no real reason I just like the thought of ford getting to be happy about things
luz rising out of a pot saying "I'm an abomination" is like same
mlp characters seem to be animated with forward facing eyes? which is concerning. you could say they've evolved past the need for field of view over depth perception due to being like sophisticated and stuff but their world is also full of way dangerous monsters that maybe they as prey animals might want of field of view for. especially pegasai. no bird or horse has front facing eyes.
I am incompetent. that thought was going somewhere about like idk repeatability to some characters due to basing self worth on accomplishment and humor alone but it just stopped there.
I peel skin off my hands and lips all the time and idk why really it hurts a lot but also I cannot stop
bag tho by danny gonzalez with pacifica. consider it.
alligator skin boots and/or blue eyes like the devils water by mcafferty with stan. consider it.
in atots stan is shown to sit upside down and no straight person has ever sat like that I would know bc I sit like that and I am not straight
I do not know who rick sanchez is and I am not able to find out because I find it hard to consume new media
I am incapable of deciding whether I want to be hugged or if anyone touches me ill die and its an issue
I have so many overdue lessons but when I try to do them my brain shuts off completely and I just end up clicking through the tests and I am a straight f student and its stressful as hell
its 4 am I shouldn't be awake
one time before we got together my ex directly told me, word for word, "I want to kiss you on the lips" and somehow I took that as platonic until she told me she had a crush on me and I think about that a lot
the owl house is just good. doesn't matter that all the twists have been spoiled for me I don't care its good
that's like all the nonsense I can pull out of my brain I am sorry and good bye
I swear and apologize too much

Harringrove + Live Aid
Okay (this is so long) but IMAGINE a pre-S3 situation (where Billy and Steve got together some time after S2 bc Billy found them and helped them fight while he was looking for Max)(bc MONSTER FIGHTING BOYFRIENDS and that’s all i have to say on that) and imagine Billy hearing about Live Aid and NEVER having been to a concert before (“Seriously? Never?” “I’m poor, Harrington. I tried to sneak into a Grateful Dead concert once but the police were crawling all over the parking lot busting people with weed.” “... Grateful Dead? Really? Aren’t they like… an old hippie band?” “Shut up, Harrington.”) and he starts absolutely GUSHING over the idea of being able to see Black Sabbath and Judas Priest and Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin and yes, even Santana (bc he kicks ass) and Bob Dylan and Joan Baez (bc his mom was a hippie and even though he has some deep-seated anger and sadness in that department, he grew up listening to the ~~classics~~ of the hippie generation and he can appreciate their presence greatly)
And Steve… Steve listens to Billy gush and complain and whatnot about this for maybe… a day? before he’s figuring out how to get tickets. He’s figuring out how to get tickets before he even knows the rest of the line up, which he’s actually very excited about once he sees it. Simple Minds? Madonna?? The Cars??? Duran Duran????? Fuck yeah.
and tickets are….. expENsive. Steve only gets paid like $3 an hour so he’s gonna have to start saving now but maybe by the time they come out, he’ll be able to buy tickets. He doesn’t let on to Billy that he’s gonna do it. but he does. it’s $35 for random tickets but $50 for tickets with better seats and, call Steve crazy, but he wants to get Billy those better seats bc the boy has never been to a concert, plus some of his favorite bands are playing???? he’s getting them those good seats. He doesn’t need those new ray bans coming out on Friday or that new stereo he was saving up for. and when they come out he rushes to the ticket place nearest them, sending apologies into the ether to Robin who’s gonna have to work by herself for a little bit bc the tickets came out by surprise and he needs to go if he’s gonna get them. and when he finally comes into work, 2 tickets to the biggest concert in their lives in his back pocket, he immediately grabs a grumpy and confused Robin into a hold and spins her around, singing Don’t You (Forget About Me) and ignoring Erica Sinclair’s irritated yelling in the process.
and he does the same thing with Billy when he sees him next. he grabs him and he spins him around and he kisses his cheek and his forehead and his nose and he kind of misses on a few and gets his closed eyelid but it’s fine bc every bit of Billy’s precious face is kissable and they’re going to the biggest concert in their lives! But he doesn’t tell Billy. he just lets Billy get irritated and push him off. he lets Billy call him crazy right before Steve pecks his nose. he lets himself admire the blush that crosses Billy’s face.
But when… when the damn monster comes back; when Steve gets stuck in that weird underground basement of the mall being sought after by Russians; when Steve gets his face smashed in by them; when Billy incurs some serious injuries after that monster tries to basically eat him alive…. Well…
Steve tells Robin about the tickets first. Robin’s heart lurches for him but she pokes Steve’s shoulder gently and calls him a sap for doing that for his ~~boyfriend~~. She says he HAS to tell Billy, even though it might break him even more, bc keeping it a secret is only going to eat away at Steve and hurt Billy if he finds out. She helps Steve sell the tickets after Jonthan and Nancy refuse to take them, saying they’d feel way too bad about going when he and Billy can’t.
Steve tells Billy the next time he goes to visit his near bedridden boyfriend and Billy is quiet and doesn’t talk much for the rest of the day but what he does say is: Hey… now we get to watch Queen on TV.
Steve smiles sadly.
But as soon as Billy gets enough strength, he basically attacks Steve with kisses and hugs and the cutest fucking nuzzles and Steve doesn’t think it’s real for a second but Billy Hargrove is nuzzling his nose into Steve’s neck and the space behind his ear and thanking him a million times over.
And when it comes time for Live Aid, the boys are a touch sad, but only a touch, bc Steve has invited everyone over to his house to watch it on his big TV screen bc his parents are STILL away on vacation. So everyone is here, even Hop and Joyce and Murray and Alexei bc this is the biggest concert in decades (and yeah, Hop and Joyce saw bits and pieces of the coverage on Woodstock but LiveAid is massive) and…
It’s so fun. It’s more fun than Billy has had in a long time and he’s spent the better portion of the last year getting fucked into oblivion by King Steve Harrington, so that’s definitely saying something.
And as the broadcast goes on, as El and Max and Nancy jump and dance to Madonna, as Joyce tears up over Joan Baez and sings along with her, as Hop sings all the words along w/ Crosby, Stills, and Nash, as Alexei shows a very surprising interest in Run D.M.C., as Robin shushes everyone during Elvis Costello’s version of All You Need is Love and sings the little “babadadada”s along with him, as Mike and Lucas serenade El and Max VERY LOUDLY w/ “Can’t Fight This Feeling” along w/ REO Speedwagon, as Steve joins Dustin and Will in an air guitar contest along to Bryan Adams’ “Kids Wanna Rock” that Murray is the judge of, as Billy nearly cries over every Beach Boys song bc it reminds him of warm, summery beach days w/ his mom back in San Diego, as Steve gives a very heartfelt performance of “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” to which Lucas and Mike and Max and Robin throw pillows at and boo (and which Billy gets irritated at bc he wants to watch his boyfriend sing and dance, goddamnit)...
As they have more fun than Billy thought would ever be possible w/ all of these typically irritating little losers… Billy completely forgets that they had a chance to be there and see half of these people in person.
It’s not until Queen comes on that Billy is actually glad they weren’t able to make it to the concert. Billy is on the couch w/ Steve, Will, and Jonathan. Max is at his feet. They’re all glued to the screen and by the time Freddie starts singing, so is everyone else. Will is breathless through Radio GaGa. Joyce gasps when everyone in the audience starts clapping in unison. They all yell along with him when he starts his call and response. Billy is tearing up and Max gives him shit for it. Billy kisses Steve during We Are the Champions. Max and El make gagging noises and Jonathan covers Will’s eyes in jest. Steve apologizes to Billy that they couldn’t make it to the concert, and Billy admits quietly that this is better than seeing it live. When Steve asks him to repeat that Billy tells him to shove it.
Billy and Hop shush everyone as Eric Clapton plays. Jonathan nearly hyperventilates over every song by The Who. Robin pulls Billy and Steve up to dance with her and Will and Max and El when Elton John comes on. Joyce and Nancy fangirl together over Hall & Oates.
And when it’s over, the kids start to argue about their favorite parts.
Dustin: “I think the best part was-”
Max: “If you say anything other than Queen, you’re wrong”
Mike: “C’mon El, Rick Springfield isn’t that hot…”
El: “He has a pretty face and his hair is fluffy.”
Lucas: “Jonathan, who was that band you were super invested in??”
Jonathan: “The Who? I have all their albums if you wanna borrow some.”
Will: “Tommy is the best one, Lucas. For sure.”
Lucas: “Yeah? Can we listen to it? I liked the pinball song.”
And Billy’s heart is full and he can’t believe how fun this was and he slips out the backdoor to the porch w/ Steve and makes out with him against the wall bc “fuck Harrington, that was amazing.”
“Music really turns you on, huh?”
“Shut up, I can’t kiss you when you’re talking.”

SPOILER ALERT: The Walking Dead Seasons 1-5 + New Viewer Thoughts
so i started watching the walking dead last month and i have so many thoughts, so i decided to compile them into one place so far. i might forget a few moments and i might forget a few character names so, sorry 🤷🏽‍♀️ this isn’t in chronological order, but i’ll try my best to do that, but i’m writing these as i remember the moments. if you haven’t watched it, you’ve been warned !
even if Rick was dead, it’s still really messed up for the best friend and wife to get together
i think Rick had every right to hand cuff Myrle to the pole. there’s no time to be disrespectful for no reason. you can’t be an ass to someone and then expect them to help you. i did slightly feel bad when they left him on the roof but it’s what he deserves
when Rick met up with the group, i honestly thought Lori didn’t really love him anymore during the rest of the time
i miss the farm a lot. it was nice and cute :/
Sophia wouldn’t have died if Rick told her to stay instead of run back 🙊
the build up to finding Sophia was longer than it needed to be
Maggie flipping out on Lori and yelling her business out loud was a little uncalled for. yeah, she almost died but she should’ve known the risk and even if she was mad, she still didn’t have to yell it out loud for people to potentially hear
Dale was always trying to get into everyone’s business, it was sad when he died but idk how i really felt about him
they really should’ve let Andrea die early on if she was going to continue to be whiny. if she really wanted to die, she could’ve done it by runing off and getting bit or by shooting herself at any time. i didn’t like Andrea much, especially in the third ? season (the one leading up to her death)
Shane and that dumb face whenever he was mad 🙄
I liked Shane at first but then he got annoying. What part of you can’t love your best friend’s wife don’t you understand ??
I feel bad for that kid that Shane tricked and killed in the woods
I also feel really bad for Otis. Who knows if they could’ve made it
The prison was okay but it made sense as a good shelter. It’s unfortunate how much supplies they lost.
I’m so glad Rick killed the leader of that prison gang!
I understand Lori’s death, but her body didn’t have to be eaten :/
T-Dog :((
Justin ? (The guy who set off the alarms) is an asshole. Like you really think of the walkers killed everyone you were going to make survive out on your own ??
The war between the prison and the governor is Myrle’s fault. He didn’t have to kidnap them, he could’ve just secretly followed them
It’s not the group’s fault that some Woodbury’s people died. If you have one of their people in capture, obviously they’re going to kill some people to get them back. The governor destroyed everything because of someone else’s fault 🙄
I did not enjoy the governor. I’m glad he died but he did not get a good enough death in my opinion. It would’ve been more satisfying to see Mishoan (sorry if it’s misspelled) to kill him, and definitely not by a bullet to the head.
If those two sisters at the apartment let the governor leave when he wanted to without them tagging along, then who knows if his climb back to power would’ve happened
Martinez? shouldn’t have saved him after what he witnessed. he knew he was a threat. should’ve saved the girl and left him and told the truth to the sisters
The governor’s other henchman, that black guy (I don’t remember his name at all) what was the point of him?? The camera kept focusing on him as if he was going to do something or be important but in the end he just died
i felt bad for Milton at the end :/ he finally came to his senses and it was a shame that he died
Andrea should’ve sucked it up and killed him the first time when she was supposed to. Also, idk why she thought she had the power to save everyone like this is war ?? saying “stop and make up, these are my friends” isn’t enough honey lol. She wasted too much time looking at Milton while she was trying to free herself bc it distracted her focus and time
I don’t know why Lori was so mad that Rick killed Shane, like ???
Poor prison :/ i couldn’t stop thinking about all the supplies they lost
I never understood whether the sickness in the prison was random or it was started by something else, like the infected rats? everyone got sick then they just moved on, like it seemed like too big of a plot element to move on so quickly
I’m surprised Hershel never caught the sickness after literally getting coughed in the face
Hershel did not deserve the death he got :/
I’m not surprised that Myrle was killed and turned, but I think it’s good that the person who finally killed him was Daryle bc it gives closure. If Myrle originally stuck with the group with Rick around, i don’t think things would’ve worked out
I’m glad Mishoan joined the group, she’s a great addition and she’s badass with that sword
At first, I didn’t catch on to the fact that Tyrese and Sasha were siblings so i genuinely thought he was cheating on her and was so confused when Sasha never got mad lol
I understand Carol wanting to stop the spreading of the sickness but at the point with so many other people sick what was the point? How are you going to secretly kill and burn everyone was is sick ??
It was sad seeing Rick banishing Carol but in a way I understand because you can’t just secretly betray a group like that
The group getting separated was so sad :/ but I liked the story build up of seeing how certain character pairings were together, and learning more about them. For example, Daryl and Beth :/
The part where Daryl and Beth come across the dead body debris and the camera focused on the boot, it never showed who the boot belonged to to make Beth hysterically cry. Yes, they showed the other group dying in the same spot before Carol ran into Tyrese but the way Beth reacted made it seem like someone from the group died. Unless she was just crying from the thought of someone in the group getting killed?
When Daryl and Beth ended up in that church and they noticed the supplies were fresh, meaning whoever lived there was still around, I wonder who it was supposed to be. At first I thought priest when he said he had a church, but then we found out it wasn’t the same one so I wonder who was there
Rick really bit off a man’s neck 😳 gotta do what you gotta do though
It made me nervous when Daryl joined that group because I thought he was going to be forced to stay or I thought the group was going to be the next big guys, but i was relieved when they died quickly.
I can’t believe Lizzie killed Mika :/ some kids don’t understand, I get it but if one of them were to survive I wish it was Mika. As sick as it sounds, if Lizzie got bit maybe she would’ve realized the seriousness of the walkers or maybe she wanted to be one of them. Carol had to do what she had to do afterwards.
I applaud Carol for how much she’s grown. Despite her abuse, she never stopped being kind hearted and grew into this strong woman who can protect herself and others, and also stands up for herself more
Terminus did it’s purpose by reuniting the group but it was so short lived. Like they managed to escape cannibals but run into them shortly after, but then kill them altogether and then that’s it, they move on to the next group?
Why did they have that moment with Rick, Carol, and those two people from the town, Rick giving him his watch, just for the guy to disappear and then randomly show up at Terminus and die?? Like what was the point? I was expecting more.
Glenn used to be the sensitive, nervous guy but now he’s grown into the strong, hard man and while his silliness is gone, i’m happy about his character development bc he does what he needs to to survive
Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene are an interesting group and interesting addition to the whole group. Not much to say about them (except Suzie Crabgrass 😍)
Sasha and Tyrese were an interesting addition too. I like Tyrese better
Tyrese is a sensitive, nice man, I like the fact that he’s not overly aggressive and kills everything living thing in his path. He’s like a big teddy bear, the protector and it gives a nice balance. Yeah, it unfortunately cost him his death but his character was needed :/
Bob was the most random character addition. Even after it showed what he did before he met them, i still don’t understand what his purpose was. He got a young man killed because of his alcohol issue. He tried to sneak a second bottle but then didn’t do anything with it. Why mention the alcoholism twice to not do anything more with it? Even after he does it doesn’t affect the group besides Sasha being emotional.
The addition of the priest is kind of random too. He was alone; they helped him and gave him shelter, but what else? He even tried to escape and got the others in trouble trying to save him so?? At the new community, I haven’t seen him much so what happened with him?
Beth’s death was really sad. I wanted her to make it but i understand that if Dawn didn’t accidentally kill her, Rick wouldn’t have killed Dawn and Noah would’ve been forced to stay. If Noah stayed, then they wouldn’t have had a reason to move up north.
The hospital seemed like they were genuinely trying to help people but why they were so forceful and strict didn’t sit right with me.
The doctor wanted to leave but I don’t know why he didn’t go with the group?? He would’ve been useful for them.
I like Noah so far (though i might be biased bc i did watch everybody hates Chris lol) i’m guess he’ll be more useful later on
Tyrese’s death was the moment that finally made me cry :/ specifically the moment they showed his beanie 😭😭
Rick went from trying to do right and trying to save everybody to not taking anymore shit and I love it
I miss Georgia already.
Season 5 has been slow for me. As of right now I haven’t finished the last 3 episodes yet because I don’t understand the point of the new community that they’re in. It’s too good to be true. I don’t trust anybody except Aaron bc he seems niave. Trouble is going to happen with the woman’s husband, I can tell him and Rick are probably gonna fight until the husband dies. The wife will freak out. The leader of the group seems suspicious. The whole area doesn’t sit well with me. I’m constantly waiting for something to happen bc the whole time they’re being watched & they know what Carol and Rick are up to.
that’s all for now. once i finish season 5, i’ll add to this

Sat down to watch ep 2 of Percy Jackson and realized I never posted my thoughts on the first episode! Oops. I hadn't intended to basically liveblog it but alas. Oh well, figured I'd post it anyway!
---
- God hearing Percy's very baby voice reading the book's intro gave me chills. That was fantastic
- I love how they immediately set up the Mist
- Blackjack? :o
- Percy actually playing Mythomagic, that's cute. I think I like him not knowing about it all in TTC better (mostly cause he keeps getting annoyed at it) but this is neat. Maybe he's embarrassed by it like how people try to ignore their Hamilton phases lol
- Sequence between Sally and bby Percy was perfect btw, god
- Not feeling this mr Brunner yet, too dignifed for a guy who dresses up in armor and swings a sword around in class, but lets see what happens when the horse comes out
- Percy and Grover trading sandwiches, babies <3
- Did they not animate the water grabbing Nancy or was that just me
- Hang on, that was it? Ms Dodds looked so cool but there was no sense of urgency whatsoever with that fight? And Riptide just? Shook? Did it pop out on its own? Is the sword alive now? Dont Magnus Chase me btw OTL
- IDK it almost feels like it was an accident? I liked how in the books Percy messily but instinctively knew what to so. And that's not how the Mist works, people would definitely see SOMETHING jumping Percy
- I like that Percy's wearing a blue shirt tho
- ... also was that Rick Riordan
- That's some unnecessary drama between Percy and Grover :/
- Lowkey sad they cut everything about Percy genuinely trying his hardest to study for Brunner's class and failing. Chiron also didn't make that big of a blunder in the show either.
- That said I like Percy fidgeting with his hands in that scene
- I also wish he had failed school bc of his anxiety and dislexia frankly, as well as just showing more of how big of a troublemaker he was BEFORE the museum tour, not bc of the Nancy situation. Guess it was cut for time?
- Wait. we skipping the Fates? Seriously??
- Eddie! Kinda like what they did with him actually, before he kinda just let Gabe do whatever he wanted with Percy and only piped up when it started to get ugly.
- Okay so Gabe IS abusive - I like the line about picking up Sally's cellphone - but also kinda? Not as bad as he should be? I guess this is "aggressively mortal" and enough to mask Percy's scent? idk Gabe's behavior explained Percy's attitude so well but since he's been stripped of a lot of said attitude I guess this is consistent?
-  Sally hiding away and feeling the rain was nice. Feels like she's hiding away from all the mess that is her marriage. Also Poseidon maybe? They DO call him Stormbringer in the book - kinda ironic here tho since we know it's been raining a lot bc Zeus is mad lmao. I also love how young she looks since she was basically a teen mom
- That said I wish we'd seen how angry Gabe and the situation had made Percy instead of him just looking like a lost puppy. Just him angrily stomping to his room then immediately RELAXING when he saw his mom would have been perfect.
- ... do we really need another diAngelo reference. Again. I liked that Nico and Bianca were just random kids in the books at first y'know.
- No seriously between this, Mythomagic and a potential Blackjack... Dont Marvel this, show, PLEASE dont "I understood that reference" me 40 million times :/
- ... Sally is? Shutting Gabe up? Making him say please? Book Gabe would never ever let them go to Montauk after that, lmao. Is this really the kind of guy you're gonna MURDER at the end of the season?? Does it really warrant THAT? With this setup, it feels like it's leading up to ditching his crumpled backside with humiliation and hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills for all the appliances, not actual death. It just doesn't feel like either Percy or Sally are truly at the end of their rope with him.
- Idk I thought they were going to start with more subtle signs of abuse and then have that /moment/ when Percy realizes Gabe has been hitting Sally, and all the subtlety would fade away. Book Gabe is worse, but you get the feeling of Percy being used to it. It makes the moment he realizes it's much worse hit like a gut punch, which is what I expected them to emulate. Guess that's that then :/
-  Percy still looks like a confused puppy instead of being relaxed with Sally/angry at Gabe/happy about Montauk. Pls don't let this become a trend I know Percy being clueless and dumb all the time is a sin the later books did to him but,,, not here,,, not with this,,,
- it took me a moment to realize that was Kronos bc that did NOT sound like what a voice that seemed to come from the bowels of the earth should lol
- Ok, so I guess Sally crying while Percy's asleep is proof she's been holding back a lot. Maybe they had her stand up to Gabe as a hint that she's desperate and it's not something she usually does? That recontextualizes things, but, idk. Still think it would hit harder if they had made Gabe more menacing. You don't need to keep the physical abuse, but, idk, just shoot the same scene with Gabe's lines having more venom to them instead of that condescending vibe. Or at least not end it feeling like Sally "won" the argument, which is what it felt to me. Gabe at least coming out on "top" would tie it up more neatly imo. Maybe the line about not a scratch on the car or else?
- Unless she's crying cause she knows she's about to loose Percy. mmmmm.
- Interesting that they changed it from Percy always knowing Montauk was where Sally and his dad met.
- Btw Percy's actor is KILLING IT here
- Oh. Oh! So Sally's the one telling him? Oh, I'm gonna miss the mystery and terror of realizing a monster is after you, almost being FORCED to accept it. The absolute shock of seeing Grover with goat feet. The surrealness of being told the greek pantheon is real just after your mom dies, that distinct feeling of Percy barely believing it bc he feels like he's in a daze after he looses Sally.
- I do like the delivery of the scene tho, Sally is very awkward, it does feel like she rehearsed something akin to this and is so tense she cant get it out like she wanted. relatable lmao
- AGAIN SCOBELL IS KILLING IT GO BABY GO
- Loved the way Sally teared up too - really in line with the book - tho that would have stopped Percy dead on his tracks, he wouldn't push her like this, even if he was frustrated. It was another sign that Sally was at the end of her rope, how Percy refused to push her as most kids would bc he loved her so much and knew she was already so fragile thanks to Smelly Gabe
- I thought Grover felt a little too... Grown up I guess? But y'know what, I'm warming up to this cadence of his voice. Makes sense since he's like 28
- The "happy" music feels so offfffff,,, definitely missing the terror and urgency here. big sad
- Yea ok nvm Grover is wayyy too in control here. what did they do to my scaredy baby where is his anxious chewing and the bleating where IS IT GIVE IT TO ME
- Also he's 24? Huh, I guess I need to double check later
- ONCE AGAIN where is the sense of fear it's just Percy tilting his head and realizing its the Minotaur in one go like?? he's not even standing up??? /I/ barely noticed anything except for a vaguely bull shaped blob chasing after them
- No "shh!! names have power". I expected it since its a rule dropped after series 1 but I always liked it :(
- When is Grover gonna freak out or bonk his head and pass out pls he's too in control of the situation here ;-;
- Is it just a Giant Bull now? And did they decide to make Zeus 0.2% less of a jerk than he is and not have him crash the car?
- Oh! Grover is down at last! Okay, at least there's thaaaaaand he's up again. GREAT :/
- Sally's speech is great but once again ZERO sense of urgency. She can back and forth with Grover for minutes while a GIANT MONSTER is right after them. Also why is she making Grover promise to keep Percy safe? I thought it was at least leading up to a River Styx oath to set up the series but no??? This feels kinda ooc of her? Are they doing away with the Council of Cloven Elders and having THAT be the reason Grover goes with Percy bc. I would not like that.
- Okay, kinda warming up to the Minotaur design. Wish they kept the half-human bit of it but anthro cow works too. Fun fact I occasionally imagined Bessie being the one with long ears so this threw me off for a bit lol
- Not sure about how to feel about Sally being the one to tease the Minotaur with the coat. I GUESS its not too different from Sally being the one to tell Percy to jump sideways, but the thing is I don't like how giving that to her left Percy's own confrontation with it
- Like he just CHARGES IT, that's supremely stupid :/ Percy actually thought strategically about it even if he was terrified and angry, he was able to control himself enough to be smart about it!
- We also miss out on him doing it bc he already lost his mom and couldn't loose Grover
- Also did he hit it with Riptide in that lateral move he does in the book? Isnt that THE move that kills it?
- Riptide is being your resident Spidey-Sense again BUT AT LEAST THE SWORD GLOWS ITS BEAUTIFUL I'M SO HAPPY.
- I actually had a moment of "oh, they made it sparkle?" and then it hit me that its the celestial bronze glow and I cheered lmao. I expected it to be a little more subtle so it took me a second but this is SO COOL.
- I like that they still have Percy climb on its back but it feels too sanitized: grabbing the horn, being able to hold on with just your knees on to a slippery animal IN THE RAIN in order to have a cool stab-in-the-head shot.
- Like the sequence isn't BAD, per se, it just lacks that frenzied, barely thinking, just surving, angry and hurting vibe of the book. It's like they sucked all of the emotion out of it even tho its more or less accurate.
- No Percy dragging Grover down to camp, crying, calling for his mom? CRIMINAL. You cast a little kid! Let him be a little kid!!
- At least the credits are pretty
---
Final thoughts: I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, but I sort of expected that, given how much Riordan shows up in the credits, this would have been more book-accurate. And even if it wasn't, he went off about how the actors may not look like the characters, but they embody the "feel" of them, and that's enough, which so far holds up - Walker Scobell being the absolute winner so far, kid can ACT - with the notable of exceptions of Grover (too in control, too serious, not really the scaredy but brave satyr he is), Chiron (yea, he definitely feels too old and dignified for my tastes. He feels like someone who teaches theory, not practice.) and Smelly Gabe.
So I think I expected the same out of the show. But I actually think it's more akin to the Hunger Games: pretty accurate if you go through it scene by scene, but with so much nuance, emotion and context missing.
Regardless of how negative this sounds, I actually enjoyed the episode! It just caught me off guard, how... lifeless is a bit harsh, it's more like a lot of the emotion was sucked out of quite a few scenes, it felt like they were just hitting plot points I guess? Regardless, I'll adjust my expectations accordingly. I DO genuinely like the THG movies, and I assume if I apply the same separation between adaptation and book to this show it'll be a lot more fun.
(The one thing I wont forgive is the score tho. It's SO generic. Almost like a discount superhero theme at times. Sad.)

It's not dread as in 'if this happens I'm out, how dare Jason, I hate that guy', but more as in... it'll be painful for me to watch it, but I want it to happen. If it doesnt, it'll be dissapointing to me and season 6 won't have the same effect season 5 had, for instance. They had the opportunity to reboot everything and make everyone return to action trauma-free, but thankfully they didn't and were able to START the nice story about healing. Like, in 'Buffy the vampire slayer' 1
I wanted Clarke to have the same moment Buffy had in Once More With Feeling, just a ‘yo, I’m not mad you guys did it, but I kind of am, and also, sad’ with maybe less singing, but that was before the season aired and now they have to confront each other or else there’ll always be that thing stopping them from being bffs. E/cho fighting her didn’t mean that much to me bc they were framed as nemesis in s4, but imagine when it’s R? I’m all ready for the water works. 2
here’s what I’m saying.
I think with this show we have to accept the certain level of angst. That certain level is HIGH. That’s just the show it is.
In Buffy, they worked through the drama with a little bit of a cop out. The music curse forced them to expose their feelings through song. No one had to get brave. No one had to be unable to bear it. No one had just be like, okay that’s enough, we need to get it out.
They were spelled into revealing the things they had been keeping hidden.
THIS show is a different kind of show, and the things they keep hidden come out through action, drama and angst.
Now understand that when Marti Noxon came on board buffy and made it more mature and darker, I loved it even more. I never had the problem other fans did with “ruining” the show. I enjoyed the deeper level and the more mature characters and the more morally gray problems. So here you have me, with a “type” for my tv shows.
I ENJOY the angst. I enjoy the human struggle. I LOOK for the characters facing down their character flaws.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me. But whatever it is, fits this kind of drama. It helps me process my own life. It makes me feel like if they can make it through THEIR troubles, I can make it through mine. It makes me exponentially more happy when they fight through and conquer their demons and win through.
I had a moment like that in TWD a couple of seasons ago, when it seemed like all was lost and there was nothing but tragedy and betrayal and I posted, “WHY DO I WATCH THIS KIND OF SHOW I HATE IT!!”  then from out of nowhere, in came the tiger, and Maggie, and Carol and everybody and Carl jumped into action and negan was like??? and I went “OH YEAH THAT’S WHY I WATCH THIS KIND OF SHOW THAT WAS GREAT!!!!”
You’ve got to PAY IN with the angst and trauma on this show. IF you want to get the victory and heroism.
Buffy never would have been so great, if she hadn’t had to kill Angel. When he was Angel again.
TWD would never even BE a show, if Rick didn’t have to face how being the good guy was going to get his people killed.
The 100 wouldn’t be the show it is if Clarke, and Bellamy, and Octavia, and Raven and all of them didn’t suffer because OF THE CHOICES THEY MADE. Because there are no good choices. Because Clarke needs to run away and this separates her from her people. Because she sacrifices herself for them and this leaves her alone. Because she’s alone so she CONTINUES to choose to be alone because it hurts to much to be left behind, and forgotten and betrayed. So she regresses to her old coping strategies, and leave Bellamy at the gates, to his fate.
Notice though, that Bellamy did this, regressing, in season 3. And it was the trigger for him to face up to his choices, and to how his people, his sister, clarke, felt betrayed, and make the decision to do the right thing.
We already saw that with Clarke. Bellamy didn’t stay on the outside of Clarke or Raven or Miller or Harper. He did with Octavia, because that was a separate story.
For Clarke, we have Bellamy as the separate story now, and Clarke needing to come back to her family, the delinquents.
And in order to GET the feeling of completion and victory when she is, once again, the leader of her people, loved, and supported and trusted and believed, we need to see the real risk and pain of her NOT getting that.
So you SEE what’s happening, but you’re not trusting that it will come out, or you’re not able to see past the pain part to the payoff.
This show is such a slow burn story. Not just Bellarke, but also the character development and the long term post apocalyptic salvation and redemption stories. They develop them so much, so slowly, in little bits and piece, interweaving them to tell each season’s battle story, that well…. it’s easy to get lost.
But you know it’s there. You can see it. You just have to trust it and be patient.

Luke/Tori for the ship ask please?
thanks for being so patient! i got carried away and then stuck bc i got carried away lol and i’ve also just been busy bc grad school lmao ;_;
here it is finally! under a cut as per my yuzh
who hogs the duvet
luke, bc he’s just a cold human being. lol not like in his heart or soul, but his body runs colder than most, so he’s chilled like all the time
if he’s not acting like an octopus, he’s hogging the duvet. tori doesn’t mind a whole bunch, since she runs warm (thanks apollo), but sometimes, on really cold nights (heating is so expensive and if they can keep it off, they will), it’s v annoying so she’ll forcefully pull the duvet back, which forces luke to turn into an octopus
who texts/rings to check how their day is going
i’d say tori is. she worries a lot abt luke, esp bc he can kinda hole up inside his mind when he’s having a tough time
those little text alert noises and rings are actually quite comforting for luke. he appreciate them a lot, which he’d never say out loud, but he doesn’t need to since they can read each other pretty well
who’s the most creative when it comes to gifts
you might be surprised, but luke actually is. it comes from his creativity for pranks
who gets up first in the morning
tori does! thanks apollo, but only during the summer lmao
it’s super bad in the summer too, bc the days are longer and it gets light around 4 or 5 in the morning lol
but tori generally gets up with the sun (thanks apollo), so during the winter she gets up later than in the summer and luke is generally up before her
who suggests new things in bed
i mean, honestly both of them do!
tori does more often, but luke will if it’s been a long day, and an even longer night bc either/or both of them can’t sleep bc of nightmares or what have you
wait, i’m just realizing this might be a sexual question??? lmao, i read it like one of those philosophical talks you have with your best friend at sleepovers at 3am (same energy anyway)
well, if it is a sexual question (i’m honestly not sure, my ace brain is seriously just That ace), i would say neither of them, honestly
like they’ve been through so much in their lives. role-play doesn’t do it for them. tori hates being held down/restrained, and they’ve both incurred enough injuries from monsters for a lifetime so bdsm is also out
they’re also both tops, so that complicates things sometimes, but “““““vanilla””””” sex is fine for them
who cries at movies
lol tori does. no question.
who gives unprompted massages
luke, for sure. and tori loves it
but tori will sometimes do so if she sees luke’s stressed and tense
who fusses over the other when they’re sick
totes luke, he turns in to like a mother hen (but don’t tell him i told you that) and worries over tori whenever she gets sick
obvi tori takes care of luke when he’s sick, but luke’s the one to really go those extra 500 miles
who gets jealous easiest
lmao, can’t choose on that one bc both of them get supremely jealous
it doesn’t help that luke is bi and tori is biromantic, so anyone is technically fair game and they’re both very good-looking ppl
who has the most embarrassing taste in music
tori! she’s a hopeless romantic, and so like all those cheesy, gooey love songs and will listen to them all day every day
and i mean i wouldn’t strictly classify that as “embarrassing” per se, but that’s the best answer i have for ya
who collects something unusual
hmmm, luke.
you could argue most things are “unusual” to collect, but luke collects journals filled with entries. like he fell out of it after thalia, and then that whole thing happened with kronos lol, but after that (this is the everybody lives!au if you couldn’t tell) he picks it back up again
so he just has stacks of journals, all filled, many from tori–its therapeutic and he finds it’s something he actually quite enjoys. in the quiet of his shared bedroom with tori, of course
who takes the longest to get ready
not really either of them. i mean, i guess tori just bc if she wants to do something with her hair, it takes longer
but tori doesn’t wear a lot of makeup to begin with, and just as well she doesn’t have to try That hard to look nice (thanks apollo)
luke is already good-looking, and even tho he doesn’t have any divine blessing, he doesn’t have to do a lot to look good either
who is the most tidy and organised
luke, he hates clutter
he can’t think, and it only reminds him of the crowded hermes cabin
who gets most excited about the holidays
tori, bc she’s making up for all she missed out in childhood
luke indulges her bc he’s secretly making up for all he missed out in childhood, but he often doesn’t like expressing he’s excited for the holidays, except for quietly when he’s in the privacy of his and tori’s apt. he doesn’t mind showing tori how much he’s enjoying himself
who is the big spoon/little spoon
they switch constantly
tori loves being the little spoon, but so does luke. even if tori is kinda tiny lol
when it’s cold at night and luke is hogging the blankets but tori is still warm enough, but her nose gets cold, she’ll roll over and press her nose into luke’s back to share what little warmth he can give her. he’ll often reach back for her arm and she’ll put it around him, lacing her fingers with his, letting her hand rest against his chest, where his heart is
more often then not tho, tori is the little spoon bc luke has turned into an octopus seeking warmth at night
who gets most competitive when playing games and/or sports
like the jealousy thing, they both do
you don’t want them on opposite sides
likewise, you don’t want them together, bc they’ll pulverize you
so it’s really lose-lose either way
who starts the most arguments
oh man, i mean i guess both of them
they’re both worried abt each other’s safety, so that’s mostly what they argue abt
tori probably starts them a little more often, if only bc luke often jumps in front of her when they’re in danger just out instinct and before tori can jump in front of him, which annoys her
not just bc she can take care of herself, but also bc luke does so with reckless abandon and she doesn’t like that he could potentially be wounded/hurt/killed bc he was protecting her
who suggests that they buy a pet
tori, but only bc they were passing a pet shop one day and she noticed luke’s eyes lingering on one of the kittens inside that had taken a liking to luke
it was december, so v cold. and they were on their way back to their apt when they passed a pet shop
and as they’re passing, one of the kittens leaps up and paws at the window, following the couple as they continue pass
this catches luke’s attention, and he finds the little kitten’s persistence endearing as they walk past
the kitten’s also meowing, but obvi they can’t hear it. luke can see it tho bc its little mouth keeps moving
even tho luke insists it’s okay if they don’t get the kitten, tori drags him inside anyway and they go to the pen, and the little kitten is waiting for them on the other side
it’s a calico and it’s not until they’re inside that they notice this little kitten’s eye is injured on its right side (bc of glare from the window outside)
luke is only able to stare, too in shock to really move or think, but tori picks up the mewling ball of fluff and coos at it. then she holds it out for luke to take. and he’s hesitant at first, bc its so small and fragile, but tori gently coaxes it into his arms. and he rests it on his shoulder and it falls asleep, the precious bby
luke panics at that, though, bc he doesn’t know what to do lol. tori is not help, she just laughs and smiles at him
one of the workers goes over to them then and says that injured animals are always tough to sell, so tori, of course, immediately says they’ll buy this kitten
anyway, her official name is jiji, but her nickname is kitty bc that’s what luke referred to her as when they first brought her home and it kinda stuck.
what couple traditions they have
idk if this qualifies as a “tradition” per se, but, since we’re in the everyone lives!au, this is also the au where luke surprises tori with a song for her b-day one yr
and so after that their “i love you” turns into, “did i mention?”
after long days/after a monster attack while they’re out trying to be normal, and after they’ve cleaned up and are relaxing in bed, they’ll softly sing duets together (since luke can sing now lol; also from linked post). but tori’s still trying to get luke to sing a duet with her in public, to no avail so far
i’ve mentioned before that they like to shower together (again it’s not ever sexual), it’s more meditative and still v much intimate
again, not exactly a tradition, but sometimes if tori’s having trouble sleeping/it’s a particularly bad night regarding nightmares, luke will softly sing to her (most of the time, “did i mention” bc he knows how happy it makes her)
valentines day is a BIG thing. and it feels so cliche for me to say, but tori LOVES that holiday and luke would do anything for that woman. so he’ll do as much cheesy, romantic stuff as he can and that he’s gleaned from movies (and like actually romantic stuff, not the White™ version of romance where the man stalks/forces the woman’s hand)
i mean most of the big holidays–valentines, halloween, christmas and new yrs are p big things in the williams-castellan household
most of the time, they spend it alone together (lol if that makes sense) like the week or day before, they’ll go out with friends and what family they have left lmao i made myself sad ;_; but on the day of, they’ll spend it together in the comfort of their apt bc going out is too overwhelming for both of them
every sunday, they’ll bake together and every monday, they’ll make a meal together. it helps them enjoy the end of their weekend and the beginning of a new work-week more, being able to spend that time together and looking forward to it at the end of those dreaded mondays
what tv shows they watch together
adult cartoons like bob’s burgers, rick & morty, and futurama
episodic comedies like parks & rec, the office, b99, and scrubs
they’ll sometimes chance it with crime procedurals and the like, but if the show gets too heavy, they’ll stop and not really go back bc they’ve dealt with enough
same goes for sci-fi/fantasy shows (tho they chance these even less bc they deal with enough mythology shit just being demigods)
what other couple they hang out with
they’ll sometimes hang out with like percy and annabeth (and maybe the other couples from the seven JASON IS STILL ALIVE I SAID EVERYONE LIVES!AU + nico and will, etc.), but it’s more in a mentor kind of way, since luke and tori are so much older than all of them. they’re good to go to for advice abt relationships, and also life in general
i like to think they are able to make friends with couples their age through places like the waystation that are hidden throughout the mortal world, but they’re wary abt new ppl bc they’ve had so many bad experiences, just in general (not necessarily with ppl)
so if you do manage to become a friend and they ask you to go on a double date with them with your partner, it’s ride or die for them (and it better be mutual)
how they spend time together as a couple
quiet nights in, mundane date nights out–anything a normal couple would do bc they’ve been through enough already, they don’t need more excitement/trauma
that, of course, doesn’t stop monsters from attacking them when they go out. but after a battle, they’ll go home, clean up, and cuddle on the bed with lofi music playing in the background and scented candles lit around the room
who made the first move
tori did regarding their private confirmation of being in a relationship since she’s demi, and she’d told luke so. he didn’t want to push her into anything she was uncomfortable with, esp if her feelings stayed platonic/friendly, so he let her take the reins
luke did regarding their public confirmation of being in a relationship when he asked her to the fireworks show
who brings flowers home
luke does bc he knows tori likes it when he does romantic things she’s seen in movies
who is the best cook
neither really, since they didn’t exactly grow up in traditional homes
but a few years after the war and of living together, tori decides to take classes on mexican cuisine to reconnect a little more with her roots and her mom. luke joins her, obvi, bc he cares and love her duh
tori’s the better cook tho; luke likes to bake
thanks again for being patient! as it always is, i enjoyed writing abt my loves

Sorry, I keep saying the same shit over and over but I really can’t properly articulate how much Eugene’s writing for this season has crushed me. I know it’s probably a stupid thing to fixate on for a lot of people, but yall need to understand what this character meant/means to me. I admit, I started watching TWD for JDM but Eugene caught my eye from the very start. I’d never seen a character or a person like him, I was just like, who is this awesome guy with a mullet?? He looks so cool wtf
And, as it turns out, he was even cooler than I thought he’d be. Supremely smart with an endless wealth of knowledge on geek culture (I would talk to this guy for hours) witty and moreover pretty unconcerned with what people thought of him, but still with a bottomless capacity for love, more so than most characters on that show would ever have. Despite the fact that facing his fears was extremely difficult for him, he still did it when push came to shove and the lives of his friends were on the line. For that reason he was, in my opinion, the bravest character on the show. Bonus points, he and I are from the same city. I used to talk like him when I was a kid growing up in the more rural areas.
He also, though it isn’t fixated on (which I think is great, tbh), has ASD. Characters with Asperger’s and Autism are becoming a bit more numerous but they’re still a relatively rare sight and there’s always the concern they’re going to be characterized as incapable of emotions, cold, unable to control themselves, or some ridiculous, unflattering depiction like that. Eugene meanwhile, was unapologetically different. Also smarter than any of us will ever be. Also loving and kind and funny and brave (and it took him awhile to get there). He was an inspiration, not just to me, but to my son who has sensory issues as well.
Now, we’re here. Eugene has become someone I don’t recognize anymore. While I have argued so many times that I think all of this stems from his unresolved grief with Abraham’s death (the person who inspired him the most) absolutely nothing has been done to explore any of his feelings on this. Absolutely nothing has been done to explain why he would turn around and treat his subordinates as poorly as he was treated by members of Rick’s group. He revels in his newfound power and ability to kick people around. His making Gabriel cry and just telling him to go fuck off into a corner was the final straw for me. The Frankie thing was shitty too but I gave him a pass because, after all, she had tricked and threatened him earlier. Gabriel had done nothing but believed in him and tried to work for something better. How dare you, Eugene. You KNOW what it feels like to be in his position.
It hurts because it feels like all the times I defended this character to people, argued that there was so much more to him than what they wanted to see was in vain. Like now all of these shallow people can point and laugh and say “lol we were right all along he’s a coward asshole who doesn’t care about anyone but himself”, a POV they only had before bc they refused to see Eugene as a human with flaws bc he wasn’t conventionally attractive or a stereotypical macho man hero type. It feels like the show is saying ‘fuck you for believing in this character’. I feel like I’ve been made a fool of. What’s worse, I feel like this character that has become small cult icon (esp to one kid I know who deals with similar issues) has been turned into an asshole with no regard for what he meant to those who loved and looked up to him.
Representation matters, even on shows like TWD where I know everyone is fair game when it comes to getting bumped off. There’s nothing preventing them from being respectful, however, except whatever need they had to utterly disappoint us.
OF course I’m hoping that something amazing will happen in the finale to undo all of this and prove to us that Eugene is still the person we know deep down. Maybe he’s been calculating and planning something against Negan all along and this display he’s been putting on is necessary for executing it. I want to believe, but I refuse to get my hopes up.
Anyway. I’m just sad. What happened to my sweet boy?

Sorry I have been busy and haven't been on. Unfortunately I have to be in my phone because on desktop asks are limited to like 200 characters or something? Very annoying. But don't worry don't stress about answering on time, we are all humans! And you might need to check your setting, I think there is an exclusive button for asks.
We can definitely fix him and he doesn't even get a say in this, baby I know what's best for you. Now you have see I don't know what happens in comics with the family thing what I know is that Karen dies which motivates him and meets Elektra afterwards who is his endgame. At some point he had a fling with Natasha but that was very brief. I don't know more about that but I can definitely learn! He has given up the mantle in the show lol to iron fist during defenders before season three of dd but then in iron fist season two Danny goes... Somewhere. One day when you'll see the series you'll know but I'm telling you beside the punisher the series are very interconnected because in th comics they had many many runs together. And I think hells kitchen is a very small place. I have a friend who lives in long Island and says that hells kitchen is actually a Rick neighborhood isn't that hilarious? But no in all of things he thinks of Danny as his successor I guess both in comics and in the show.
I want a coffee date with Matt so bad. Please universe. Holding hands over the table and your other hands holding your cups of coffee pleeease the absolute cutest I can picture this so vividly in my head. His restaurant date with Karen was so cute it filled me with such jealousy ngl. He is just precious really. Opera is Hella expensive but we can make it work, win tickets at the radio show or something, haha. Park date also, very cute very nice,. Ooh maybe a fair a festival what are they called? With street vendors and stuff.
I think he made money from boxing at some point next week during my re-watch ill start pinpointing things and keeping notes so we can enrich our talks. But yeah definitely little money not a lot, abet here and there.
matty <3 (lets just ignore the sad subtitles bc i hate that that happened to him :( he deserved so much better)
Tumblr media
don't worry omg! you are also not obligated whatsoever to do this, so take as much time as you need! i really enjoy this so much!! also; @tumblr fix the asks!! in general!!!!!!!
anyway *cracks knuckles* on to more matt!!
we could fix him so good <3 like matt just... let us do the work you just sit back and observe. take notes. as a lawyer you must be pretty good at that by now.
karen dies?? i mean. i don't particularly like her, but that kinda sucks that she dies. like poor matt. this man cannot catch a break. him and elektra do make sense, like they have such a passionate relationship! a fling with nat??? pls matt he pulls the hottest women <3 good for you.
ooh i didn't know that yet! i am actually procrastinating watching the last four episodes of season three haha. i'm just not ready to say goodbye and im watching other stuff right now hahha! i love those interconnected series so much! like every character has their own arch but it intertwines with others and ugh... i love that sm.
i honestly thought hell's kitchen was somewhere in like brooklyn? but it's in manhattan?? lmao i've only been to new york once, but i did not expect that it would be a richer neighbourhood! pls stop with the coffee date stuff omg i cannot handle that because i know it's never gonna happen to me </3 like. where will i find a man that is exactly like matt. nowhere! or at least not where i live :(. oh and the pool thingy with karen. like. ah. so hot. so hot. i love playing pool and this is definitely not a dream of mine. like. someone (matt) hovering over me. very close. oof. i need to take a breather.
i hate calling but i'd call a radio show to win tickets for him so he can enjoy the opera. like i'd embarrass myself on national radio to do that for him. ooh park date YES! picnic. with strawberries and nice drinks and a soft blanket so you can lay your head in his lap and... my heart hurts. omg a fair!!!!!!! i love those!!!!! imagine him at a petting zoo 🥺 like a little llama coming up to him. or a donkey. i love donkeys.
omg you're going to keep notes??? for these talks??? marry me pls. (this week i won't be able to watch a lot of stuff because i have a final on friday, but i'm so looking forward to your thoughts!!)💗
