Whispers in Verse - #Poetry for Stillness and #Mindfulness
I’m honored by this incredible 5-Star review of my poetry book, Whispers in Verse, and simply had to share it with you. Whispers in Verse reads as if written on the wings of angels. These poems touch the soul. I found myself reading many of them over and over while I let the feeling of the words and phrases wash over me. Every poem in this volume of poetry has a calming understanding effect.…

i'm gonna make my painful contribution to The Discourse and say i do not see the harm in women reclaiming female centric spirituality.
i am not a religious person nor do i want to become one but spirituality is also about culture, community and celebration. i would much rather women celebrate nature, the female form, and "divine femininity" than patriarchal phallocentric religions. that "divine femininity" is used pejoratively has always tickled me considering we live in a world hooked on divine masculinity. the old matricentric religions are really the only form of female culture devoid of male-centric worship we can grasp at, since men have dominated our belief systems for thousands of years. and women learning about the old religions is the best way to unravel the myth of the male creator, and realise it is really women who are the closest thing to a "god" on Earth.
there's also an element here, which i think is deeply capitalist, patriarchal, and a little racist, of people considering the connection to & celebration of nature as somehow primitive. i think that the lifestyles most of us live now, with none of us knowing anything about the land around us is actually very infantile and regressive for humanity as a whole. the ways of life we consider "primitive" (primitive communism, matrilineal societies) are really what we need to find ways to return to post-capitalism. they were in tune to nature, sustainable, and much more communal & equal. how can nature be primitive or ascientific when science *is* in nature, and the practices of these old societies were early scientific discoveries & practices. as a Black person, my community is often trying to reclaim our lost practices. it makes sense to me that women would try to do so too.

spotted on the wall behind the white horse theater!!
Happy one year to Bolt in the Blue by @valeriianz ! Truly the best band au fics I've ever read, I am Endless' #2 fan forever (#1 is Hob, of course) 💙🎸✨
+ alt. colors for the flyer & other scans:
Tumblr media
i love taking advantage of my art uni's massive (MASSIVE) scanners for literally anything i can. it's got the most gorgeous grit and scan banding that photoshop trickery cant replicate (though i try lol). so, yes, i literally printed out the b&w flyers, scanned them in, then added color and printed them again to stick on my wall haha.
Tumblr media
when digitally adding color, i wanted it to really feel like black ink on colored paper instead of trying to print on color paper and then scan it again (i have done this before idk). i think the xerox-y look is pretty convincing! the green, pink, and purple are my personal favs.
Tumblr media
an irl friend suggest i try non-black-ink versions to see what i liked. i think they look cool but some of the text gets a bit lost. still, i like the pale yellow+red ink one. (this almost makes me want to try riso printing this to see what it'd look like 👀👀).
Tumblr media
^ this is what the white horse metal barrier edit looked like before I added the Huji Cam filter lol. it wasn't feeling convincing enough like this, so i actually took a photo of my laptop screen with the filter and somehow that looked more real than the actual shot from the show lol. (also, because i've stared at this screenshot for so long, the orange/yellow June 12th poster? is everything on it a reference?? loll)
anyway, had a lot of fun making this!! feel free to print if you want!! READ THE FIC EVERYONE GO READ BOLT IN THE BLUE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i keep thinking about the chain (minus legend) being turned into wolves from this post of mine so i figured why not ramble about it
the base idea: everyone except legend is turned into wolves. legend is a rabbit. you can imagine the issues this causes
-definitely inspired by Wolfie’s Pack by AmayasAngel and Wolf Family by Breanna!! they’re very good go read them now <3
-the wolves can understand each other. wolves and rabbits cannot
-they eventually manage to figure out who’s who through some trial and error
-in the beginning, the Chain have to constantly reign in their new instincts around Legend (small, brightly-coloured prey animal moving quickly = hunting mode activated). as i’m sure you can imagine, this does nothing to help Legend’s poor heart or issues
-Twilight + Sky, the two most familiar with Legend’s rabbit form, are extremely protective of him the whole time they’re transformed
-Wind + Four are pup/juvenile sized, with Wild + Hyrule slightly bigger than them
-Legend has about a hundred heart attacks during this time; it does not help that half the Chain are very eager to play, with him or with each other. either way his nerves are through the roof
-Twilight is in charge, as he’s the one most familiar with this form. this also means he has the (dubious) pleasure of teaching everyone else - sans Legend - how to be a wolf
-Legend mostly chills with Sky or hides from the more... excitable members of the Chain (these are not mutually exclusive)
-Sky takes to grooming him to help both their nerves
-you know how rabbits grooming each other can be a sign of submission + boosts their ego? yeah. Legend gets an ego boost for a while there and it allows him to be confident enough to engage with the others for a bit
-they take turns grooming him one time (he gets massively ego-drunk) and he binkies for a good five minutes in the middle of camp while everyone else watches in amusement (and the younger ones join in)
-the curse eventually wears off or gets removed and everyone has to take a while to adjust to being hylian again. that being said, being able to communicate properly with everyone is a relief
-there is some teasing on both sides but the Chain remembers quite clearly how terrified Legend was (and how they were, too, when they realized it was him and when they couldn’t understand him) and so they keep it to a minimum. Legend definitely gives as much as he gets, though

Steve always gets his devil horns wrong.
He keeps his thumb out and does the ‘I love you” sign on accident and Eddie never calls him out on it. He even threatens the others under pain of death (their dnd character’s death) to never correct him.
It’s so fucking adorable to see Steve at the edge of the stage, right up front, throwing up an ‘I love you’ at a Corroded Coffin show. Eddie sometimes can’t stand how wrapped around this man’s finger he is.

tgcf as a long rambling bedtime story shang qinghua tells xuejiao (because story time is one of the few times his little half-demon whelp will cuddle with him) intended to teach a spoiled ass ice prince the value of humility and goodness and dedication to the people. it backfires horrifically because XJ thinks that xie lian is extremely cringe and in true airplane fashion the epic bloodthirsty demon antagonist ends up being a supreme simp househusband. how does this keep happening to SQH

I do appreciate the fire side chat clarifying the actual stakes and damages of the last episode. I think Ame is probably going to have issues accessing the Citadel or her contacts there-in going forward.
Especially because Suvi, regardless of whether they make up or not, is probably never going to give Ame the same access to her (i.e. The Citadel's) resources as she had this arc. Which I think makes sense for a consequence in a long term campaign.
Part of what Ame needs to work on most is her ability to make her own allies and navigate social situations where she is not acting as the Witch of Toma but is instead The Witch of the World's Heart with all of the relative status, hierarchy and real politik implied by that.
Suvi has for various reasons been doing a lot of that for the Party as a whole and I think it'll be noticeable how much that is a weakness of Ame's almost immediately once we get to the Notth Pole.
In a weird way despite the class privilege - it feels like Suvi is just more aware of (or maybe just more affected by) human consequences than Ame is. Even thinking back to her first interaction as an adult in the campaign - the consequences Ame imposed on that asshole were incredibly Witchy.
I have seen a possibility (through magic) that this man may cheat and so I have given him a ring that will punish him magically if he does that.
It's a fun choice but not one that actually requires her to deal with the emotional fall out of any of that. A more direct/ but less Witchy thing would have been to warn that girl from her village her husband might cheat on her so she could decide if she still wanted to have a baby with him.
When Suvi is involved she does not get to have that distance- the person she killed was killed with her own hands. When those guards died on the wall she was right beside them trying to draw Orima's stranglers away. Now she's also the Citadel's no. 1 nepo baby but I think it's easier for us as an audience to parse that on sight rather than what's happening with Ame.

Meditation really is such a huge game changer when it comes to mental health and self improvement.
Yet so many people misunderstand it, or just don't want to try it bc they think it will be boring.
Was using your imagination as a child boring? Meditation is as boring or exciting as you make it.
Many people don't know where to start, or claim they just "don't have the time," but we make time for that which is important to us.
Do you smoke cigarettes or weed?
Even just 5 minutes a day, hell, a week, can cause such a massive change in your perspective of life.
Taking the time to slow down, breathe, and sort through your brain, in a world that is so "GO GO GO," all the time, is so crucial to keeping a clear head.
Getting in touch with ourselves, who we really are, our desires and fears, in a world filled with overstimulation and escapism has never been more important.
If you are curious, or would like to get started, or even just try it out to see "what's up," I highly encourage snooping through the "guided meditation" section of youtube.
Start off small, 5 minute, 10 minute, whatever feels right to you. What videos call to you? What seems interesting to try?
(I can send you a playlist of some of my favorites if you like!)
If you are serious about bettering yourself, meditation is a GREAT and FREE way to start!
I have learned so much about myself just through 5-10 minute daily guided sessions.
I took a break but just got back into it again and I already feel so much better.
When I first started, I was in a very very low place. Each meditation I did would leave me crying and shaking, not because I was sad, but because I was purging trauma trapped in my body.
Mediation helped me learn to regulate my emotions, feel them, and allow them to pass, instead of getting trapped in them. It has given me so much clarity about myself and the world around me. It's truly one of the best things I may have ever done for myself.
It has helped me build confidence, self assurance, helped me let go of things that desperately needed to be released, helped me connect with myself and my spirit guides, taught me patience (still working on that one lol) and so so much fucking more.
It has brought me feelings of true peace, which I had not experienced before. I am not so quick to be angered or triggered, I think much more logically and am less trapped in my emotions. It's actually kind of crazy how much my brain has changed in the last 3 years from meditation. If you knew me irl, you know I used to be VERY emotional, suicidal, prone to self harm tendencies. That's not who i am anymore, and a big chunk of that is due to meditation.
I respond more frequently, not from a place of trauma, but from a place of understanding and kindness. Coming from someone who's whole personality was nothing but trauma responses....I am forever grateful to myself for deciding to begin this journey.
Meditation is one of the most powerful forms of self care I have ever encountered. It is long lasting, unlike face masks and bubble baths.
Some of the most profound meds I have done are for emotional release, and I cannot recommend this more for people with trauma of any kind. Let that shit out of your body, instead of keeping it trapped and poisoning your spirit. (Only if you feel ready)
If you can learn to control your emotions, you can truly do anything.
Do you Meditate?
What kinds of meditation are your favorite?
Do you have any favorite guided meditation channels on youtube?
If so, drop them shits in the comments!

"Hopefully, he waited for the book to become agitated, but nothing stirred it."
Maybe Claude Noble should have tried to call on Clarence Darrow's spirit a bit closer to Halloween (or waited more than 30 seconds for a breeze).
I stumbled upon this photo, taken in 1940, in our Clarence Darrow collection and had to do a bit of digging. Turns out books are hard to agitate, and Noble tried many times to call on the famous lawyer on the anniversary of his death (this article was published five years after the above photo was taken).

Love the idea of giving ghosts physical traits. I made this poem about a ghost having to physically rip itself out of its former body pulling through each layer of muscle and tissue. Exploring the idea of feeling like you have to take a breath but not having lungs to do it. I think theres a lot to explore with that and i think its horrifying in a really good way. It doesn't quite feel right that the typical idea of ghosts is that they can just float around and move through things freely i think as people were so ingrained in the idea of having a physical body that being in a non-physical form would feel so foreign and wrong you could easily convince yourself you're trapped or being held down. That you'd have to do this elaborate play miming your own physicality to free yourself from that.
