I am the EggPod guest Sam Delaney talking about a Get Back screening Q&A with Glynn Johns. Glynn is talking about going to dinner at John & May Pang’s apartment in NYC with Mick Jagger in the 70s and he confronts John about how he trashed his work on Let it Be. John’s response is interesting.

Roman Candle Issue 2
Tumblr media
Only three years after issue one, the second issue of Roman Candle magazine is finally done. Sticking with the vague theme of ‘stuff I find interesting’, this one features…
— An interview with photographer Chris Shaw about his stint as a night porter and the alchemy of the darkroom. — A chat with artist Dick Jewell about found photos and club culture. — A conversation with E-Man from the notorious NYC bike messenger crew, the X-Men. — An interview with photographer/film-maker Harvey Wang about capturing the overlooked side of New York. — Bongwater/Shimmy Disc man Kramer on debunking the paranormal and the time Peter Hook took him for a spin around the back streets of Manchester.
This is all served up alongside short stories courtesy of Alex Appleby and Harry Longstaff, a brief chat with Jonathan Richman about his side-job making bread ovens, some words about Bob Dylan from Rivendell Bicycle Works main-man Grant Petersen and some spiel about the mysterious 35mm photos which have been adorning Jandek record sleeves since the 70s.

Brian Epstein turned down Dick Rowe?!?
I'm listening to episode 112 of I Am The Eggpod (the 5th anniversary) and Chris Shaw mentions (around 1h5m) learning something from Mark Lewisohn's Evolver:62 show. Namely:
"Dick Rowe, you know he didn't turn down the Beatles. Brian Epstein turned down Dick Rowe."
Has anyone seen the show? Any idea what he's talking about? Is this something new Mark has discovered since writing Tune In?

Uncanny X-Men 132#, cover date April, 1980, Tessa was introduced. She was created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. Jean Grey joined the Hellfire Club leading towards the Dark Pheonix Saga. The Hellfire Club was heavily influenced by the The Avengers episode "A Touch of Brimstone". Not only were the costumes an homage but Mastermind takes on the name of Jason Wyngarde and he looked like Peter Wyngarde who was the guest star in that episode. ("And Hellfire Is Their Name", Uncanny X-Men 132#, Marvel Comic Event)

So, I'm going to repurpose this blog a little, because keeping track of all the side-blogs is becoming a little tedious. This started out as a Christopher Pike blog during the second season of Discovery, and much as I love Pike; he's now vying for my affections with two other Starfleet captains - who are as complex (and potentially broken) as he is, but much more snarky. So this is now the Pike/Rios/Shaw blog. I am planning to keep my separate Shaw blog for now because I don't want to lose the posts I've already made, but everything will be reposted here as well. And, Cris gets a home, rather than being orphaned in my junk-drawer blog, which has like 9 followers.
ETA: Updating again; to add Captain Seven of Nine; just a little obsessed with her too. Giving her a shot at being the avatar for a while, to make up for being added late.
