DP x DC: Dan

So I have a lot of thoughts about Dan, and just so we're clear I haven't read the new comic yet so not sure how the new material affects his character

Dan is a character that in DPxDC is see being just casually there... which is wild in context of his character because he was like suuuuper evil. Like i get liking his character and wanting to include him, but it rarely makes sense, sometimes it does, but man we love to do a handwavy "after his redemption arc" thing without actually talking about his redemption arc

So, let's give him a redemption arc, and lets make it get pretty gay

So stages of grief, I'm going to outright misuse it intentionally so don't tell me I'm using it wrong, I am well aware it is about coming to terms with your own death. Let's say in ultimate enemy, he was in the stage of Anger. He was angry. Angry at himself, at the world, at the stupid ghosts that messed up his life, he was angry and he took that out on everyone. Now here he is, his family is alive, his friends are alive, and he still is angry, but at himself. He can't go back to them, he's literally a whole other person than the Danny they know

So self destructive spiral. He's hard partying, hard drinking, waking up in a random gutter in Gotham, and doing it all again. He might also be dabbling in other illicit substances. The point is, if he wasn't already dead his behavior would lead to a quick grave

So we have this miserable, sad sack of a man who has done terrible things regularly abusing alcohol(and maybe more)

Now there's another character that had a similar issue. One Red Arrow turned Arsenal and his heroin addiction...

So who better to find Dan than the same man that got Roy sober and sponsored him?

That's right, Waylon Jones aka Killer Croc

To large, beefy, grumpy men with goodness hidden inside them bonding, maybe falling in love? all while Waylon helps Dan work through his emotional baggage and get clean

it has everything:

angst, emotions, bonding, gay, and potentially a happy ending for two former villains

Wally doesn't think it's heroic or good to kill so he avoids it. But it's not a steadfast rule. Being on a diet and trying to eat organic is not the same as being vegan. And Wally? Well let's just say that cheat days aren't out of the question.

Persephone captain marvel au. Hear me out.

Associated with duality, reincarnation, resurrection, childhood innocence (and it getting ripped away by adults), and her 'counterpart' Kore, which is her in her returning aspect of spring, youthfulness, new life... Come on. Is that not the closest thing to Billy you've ever seen in ancient Greece? Where he gets his powers?

It all starts with Teth Adam, and his devastation at the death of his son. He finds the old paths, breaks them open, and storms down into the underworld to demand him back. His is not a new story.

But where Persephone might ordinarily be inclined to ease her husband's scorn, give the troubled mourner a chance, she is speaking to the champion of magic, the world's mightiest mortal. The chance of success is too high. The challenge would not be enough. The death was too high profile and would risk too many attempting to follow in his footsteps. The man is too unstable, too powerful, too close to the heart of magic for it to be safe - for any of him - to grant his wish and risk his false hope.

They deny him.

Enraged, implacable, Teth Adam lashes out. The battle is long and drawn out, neither side tiring even as both weaken, but Persephone, in either form, is not one of war, and she is felled as her curses shatter, her furies tossed aside like dolls. The sound of Hades' scream as Adam's surprise leaves him open flattens the rubble of their throne room.

The wounded champion escapes, hounded by cerberus and skeletons instead of his son's shade, as her husband crashes to his knees beside her. She has not a mortal soul, and thus will be going where even Death cannot reach.

But Adam killed the goddess of reincarnation, and Billy has odd dreams. He's pretty sure he needs to ease up on the stress. He's restless in winter and distracted in summer, he can sleep outside in howling storms as long as he's tucked snug in the boughs of a tree, he's had the luck of never tasting a rotten fruit. Sometimes it feels like there's ghosts in his hideouts and the kids at school try and bribe him to curse their enemies.

When he chosen to be Captain Marvel the wizard chokes on his own speech when the smoke clears. They stare at each other.

"Well," says Persephone, "that was unexpected. Hullo."

"Hello," the wizard replies, "I was under the impression..."

"I don't think the laws of interference quite apply until I'm immortal again," he says.

The wizard's relief is palpable. It's understandable, he looks ready to keel over from old age. "Can I ask...?" he gestures at the new body. It takes a second to understand.

"Oh, I'm a boy now. For a while."

And that's that.

Until green lantern is killed in battle.

he probably would've found you the same way he found you if you didn't have powers. either just watching Earth for fun and seeing you, or a gift from the Light.

either way, it's the same situation: you end up on Apocalypse with him, with no idea what the hell you were doing, while he's just happy you're there (not that you can tell)

you won't really be able to use your powers much, and if you do try to use them he might just erase your memory so you either a) won't remember how to use them, or (if it's that serious) b) you won't remember you have powers at all.

the only time he would really let you is if he needed to experiment with them, but even then those are rare, and it would only be if you were compliant with not using them or he had just erased your memory to make you think you couldn't use them.

he would also probably make you in charge of the furies as well, since he needs you to at least be doing something, and the same reasons as before, which is that it's basically an excuse to talk to you.

is kind of sad if he has to erase your memories completely, because he actually wants you to join him in conquering and killing people, but since you don't want to listen to him or be around him, he can't take that risk.

now, if you didn't have your memory erased, he would definitely try to show you what he thinks. he really wants you to become closer to him, and what better way to do so than to show you what will be yours in a few centuries?

if anything, you're more freaked out because the amount of power he has and how much he can control makes you anxious. you almost compare it to your own power, while you can create anything you want, he can destroy anything he wants.

gets very paranoid too that you want to leave, or that you're planning on escaping. sometimes he just has someone follow you around the whole week just to make sure you won't do anything.

if you still know about your abilities, he sometimes makes you create things on the spot, almost like he's making sure you still know how to use them. sometimes it's something small, or other times he'll ask you for a car or something random.

other times, he'll ask you how your abilities work. can you make things with certain traits added or removed? can you make things that work? can you make this particular object?

while at first, it scared the hell out of you, thinking that he was going to kill you for making the wrong item, you start to find it annoying every time he asks. yes, you can make a bomb out of thin air.

another thing he gets paranoid about is you using you powers against him. there's a reason he doesn't have you fight or train like the rest of his children, simply because he's worried what might happen if you get out.

so, instead he has you learn things. science, math, history, everything that he could think of you probably know. if you have struggles in a certain subject, he almost encourages you to push harder in those subjects. actually, it's only of the only times where he actually encourages someone to do something.

if you continue to fail, he tries to find the reason for it himself. is it the tutor? is it the room you study in? distractions? creates the perfect study environment for you just so you can pass a certain class.
