“You’re quiet today.” Kara murmured softly, her hand gently squeezing the woman in the passenger seat’s thigh as the two drove along an empty road.
Lena sighed, trying to hide the discomfort she was feeling. "Just a little tired, that's all love." she replied, offering Kara a weak smile as she interlocked hands with the
"Are you sure that's all it is?" Kara asked, concern evident in her voice. "You've been acting off since yesterday. Did something happen?"
"Just a little headache, I think," Lena finally admitted, trying to downplay the rhythmic pounding at the front of her temples, "Maybe I didn't get enough sleep last night, I’ve kinda been fretting about making a good impression on your mom."
Kara's expression softened with understanding, but her worry only intensified. "Oh, Lena, you don't have to fret about that. Eliza already likes you, you two have spoken on the phone loads. Besides, you're amazing just the way you are. No need to impress anyone." She smiled, leaning over to press a quick kiss to her cheek.
Lena appreciated Kara's reassurance, but she couldn't shake the feeling of responsibility to make a good impression on Eliza, especially since it was their first Christmas together as girlfriends. "I know she likes me, but I still want her to see that I'm good for you, Kara. And I want everything to go smoothly," Lena said, trying to mask the hint of a sniffle in her voice.
But of course, Kara's super hearing picked up on her sniffling, she looked over, her brow crinkling with unease, she hated when Lena wasn’t fully honest with her, "Darling, are you sure you're just tired? You can tell me, y’know." she said, casting a worried glance at her girlfriend as the latter stared out of the widow, resting her head against the glass.
Lena quickly shook her head, hoping to avoid further questioning. "No, I promise, it's just a little headache, nothing serious," she replied, attempting to hide her reddening nose with the back of her hand.
Kara wasn't entirely convinced, but she didn't want to push her too much. "Alright, if you say so," she let the subject go but she made a mental note to keep a closer eye on her.
As the drive continued, Lena's headache only seemed to worsen. The rhythmic motion of the car and the warmth of the heater made her eyelids heavy. She tried to stay engaged in the conversation with Kara, but her body felt sluggish, and her thoughts were becoming harder to focus on.
Feeling more exhausted with each passing minute, Lena eventually leaned her head back against the headrest, closing her eyes briefly. She tried to fight off the urge to sleep, not wanting to miss out on precious moments with Kara, it wasn’t the two got to be alone like this and she knew how much Kara enjoyed driving with her. However, as much as she tried to fight it, the fatigue eventually overwhelmed her, and she drifted off into a light doze.
As Lena drifted off to sleep, Kara's super hearing picked up on a soft snoring sound emanating from her girlfriend. It was a sound she had never heard from Lena before. It was cute, adorable even, but it also raised Kara's worry a few notches. She’d never once in their whole 2 years of sharing a bed heard her snore.
Kara tried to suppress a smile at the sound, she was so adorable, but her concern remained. She continued to drive carefully, glancing over at Lena from time to time to make sure she was okay. The snoring persisted, occasionally interrupted by a muffled sniffle.
Before long they finally arrived at Eliza's home, and Kara parked up the car before gently nudging Lena awake. "Hey, sleepyhead, we're here," she said softly, reaching over to stroke her cheek.
Lena stirred and blinked her eyes open, rubbing her eyes groggily. She quickly tried to stifle the snoring, realizing that she must have been making those noises in her sleep. "Oh, sorry," she murmured, her face flushing with embarrassment, “We’re here?”
Kara smiled warmly, reassuring Lena, "It's alright, I thought it was pretty cute and yes we’re here now love.”
Stepping out into the chilly Midvale air sent a shiver running through the ravenette’s body and she instantly brung her arms up around herself, trying to fight off the icy chill.
Ready to meet the family?" Kara asked, trying to lighten the mood. She could tell Lena was still not feeling well, but she didn't want to spoil the holiday spirit.
Lena nodded, trying to sound enthusiastic. "Absolutely! I've been looking forward to this." She didn't want to disappoint Kara or make her worry more than she already did.
Hand in hand, the two came into the house, greeted by the warm flicker of the burning fireplace and the inviting smell of a fresh holiday meal being prepared in the kitchen. Eliza was already waiting for them, wearing a warm smile as she embraced her daughter and then Lena.
"Kara, sweetheart, it's so good to see you again," Eliza smiled, holding Kara close. "And you must be Lena! I've heard so much about you, it’s so nice to finally meet you. Oh you’re beautiful dear."
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Mrs. Danvers," Lena replied politely, trying to suppress a cough that threatened to escape her throat, “Thank you for having me here, I really appreciate it.”
Eliza smiled warmly. "Please dear, call me Eliza. We're family now." She turned to Kara. "Kara, why don't you show Lena around? I'll finish up in the kitchen. Alex is here too with Maggie, but they’ve just nipped out to get some more drinks for everyone.”
Kara nodded as she took Lena's hand and led her through the house, giving her a tour of the place she had grown up in. Lena smiled and listened attentively, trying her best to appear engaged all whilst trying her best to ignore the aches which were forming in her joints.
As they passed by the living room, Lena noticed the Christmas tree adorned with twinkling lights and ornaments, and a pang of nostalgia hit her. She recalled the many years she spent Christmas alone, without the warmth of a loving family. Lillian hadn’t been one for gifts, never mind celebrating. She had grown up feeling isolated and distant from her own parents, and as such the holiday season was always been a difficult time for her.
After the tour, Kara took Lena to the guest room where they would be sleeping for the duration of their visit. The room was cosy, with holiday decorations and a wide bed in the centre, and they placed their luggage on the floor.
Lena attempted to gather some energy and enthusiasm as she gazed around the room, but her headache had worsened and her energy was dwindling by the minute. "This room looks lovely," she murmured, weakly smiling at Kara. "Thank you so much for bringing me here."
Kara recognised Lena's discomfort and didn't want it to escalate it further "You're welcome, love. I'm glad you like it," she replied, concern etched on her face. "But now, I think we need to actually address how you’re feeling, don’t you?”
“What do you mean?” Lena asked, her eyes casting down to her feet.
"Do I really need to say it?" Kara said, sitting on the edge of the bed besides Lena, “You should try and rest for a bit while its quiet.” She murmured softly, telling her sniffling girlfriend to lay down.
Lena did as she was told. feeling a little guilty for causing Kara to worry. She thought she’d done a better job at hiding it. But she couldn't deny that having Kara by her side was a comfort. She closed her eyes, trying to relax and let the pain subside.
Time passed, and Lena's headache didn't seem to improve. Not only that but she kept switching between feeling blazing hot and shiveringly cold and it felt like there was a tickle in her nose. But like everything else, Lena tried to ignore it, instead, she shifted her focus to the sound of Kara's calming voice, telling her stories about their childhood memories, hoping to take her mind off the discomfort.
However, as the tickle in her nose intensified, Lena couldn't hold back anymore. She let out a series of soft, stifled sneezes, one after the other.
"Bless you," Kara said with a gentle smile, "Hold on, want me to go get you some tissues?"
"Thank you," Lena replied with a sniffle, "And yes please, if its not too much of a hassle."
Kara quickly fetched some tissues and handed them to Lena. As Lena wiped her nose, she felt a wave of fatigue wash over her again. "I'm sorry for getting sick." she murmured quietly, her voice distinctly hoarse now.
But the Kyrptonian only shook her head, “You have nothing to apologise for love.”
The two stayed like that for an hour or so because they heard Eliza’s warm voice calling them downstairs for dinner.
As they made their way downstairs, Lena clung to Kara's arm for support, trying to maintain her composure. She didn't want to appear weak or vulnerable, especially not in front of Kara's family. The scent of the delicious holiday meal filled the air, making her stomach growl, but her appetite seemed to have disappeared along with her energy.
Eliza greeted them warmly, noticing the slight change in Lena's demeanour. "Is everything alright you two?” She asked kindly as the pair came to sit opposite Maggie and Alex at the table.
Eliza, ever the caring mother figure, noticed Lena's pale complexion and the slight sheen of sweat on her forehead. "Lena, dear, are you feeling alright?" Eliza asked, genuine concern in her voice.
Lena offered a weak smile and tried to play it off. "I'm okay, Eliza, just a little tired from the drive, I think," she replied, attempting to suppress a cough that threatened to escape.
Kara, knowing her mother's intuition, decided to chime in. "It was a long journey, I’m sure we’re all a little tired." Kara said, hoping to put her worries at ease.
But as dinner progressed, Lena's condition seemed to worsen. She tried her best to participate in the conversation, but her responses became shorter and more subdued. The pounding headache, the chills, and the incessant sneezing made it challenging for her to focus on anything else.
Eliza was smart and she easily picked up on the obvious struggling Lena. She exchanged a concerned look with Kara silently questioning what was wrong and the blonde subtly mouthed the words "she's sick." Eliza nodded in understanding as she gave Lena a sympathetic smile but decided that if she’d stayed silent, there must’ve been a reason and she chose not to push the matter at the table.
But once the food was eaten, everyone gathered in the living room to talk and share memories. Lena tried her best to participate in the conversations, but her discomfort was becoming increasingly evident. The sneezing persisted, and she could feel her nose becoming more congested by the minute.
"I'm sorry." Lena mumbled, her voice raspy, "I really didn't mean to get sick like this and ruin the evening."
Eliza came up to Lena's side, sending her a comforting smile. "Oh, dear, you have nothing to apologise for," Eliza answered warmly, "it's completely normal to get sick every now and then." It happens to everyone. What matters is that you’re safe and here with us.”
Kara nodded in agreement. "Eliza’s right. We just want you to feel comfortable and rest if you need to.”
Lena felt a wave of gratitude wash over her at their understanding and reassurance. "Thank you," she said softly, "I'm just not used to being sick around people. It's always been a bit of a vulnerability for me."
Eliza patted her shoulder gently. "I understand, but you don't have to worry about that here. We're family, and that means taking care of each other."
With a gentle smile, Eliza went to the kitchen and returned with a cup of honey tea. "Here, dear," she said, handing it to Lena, "This should help soothe your throat and ease your congestion."
Lena gratefully accepted the tea, taking a careful sip. The warmth and sweetness provided some comfort, and she felt the soothing effect on her throat. "Thank you, Eliza," she said sincerely, touched by the care and kindness she was receiving – it was so different to how she would’ve been treated with her old family.
Eliza smiled warmly, sitting beside Lena. "Sometimes, despite it all, what you really need when you're sick is a mom," she said gently, "And I'm more than happy to be that for you today."
Lena's eyes welled up with tears as she nodded, feeling the warmth of the motherly embrace Eliza was offering. "Thank you," she repeated, her voice soft and full of emotion.
After spending some more time with the family, Kara noticed that Lena was growing more fatigued. She gently suggested they go outside for some fresh air to help clear Lena's head. Lena agreed, knowing the cold air might provide some relief for her stuffy nose.
The two bundled up in warm coats and stepped out onto the porch, finding solace in the crisp night air. They sat on the porch swing, the bright night stars twinkling above them, and the peaceful atmosphere around them was calming. Lena leaned her head against Kara's shoulder, feeling the comfort of each other’s warmth.
As they swayed gently on the swing, the rhythmic motion and the soothing atmosphere lulled them both into a state of drowsiness. The blonde noticed Lena falling asleep, placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, then leaned her head against Lena's, letting her eyes drift shut as well. The rhythmic motion of the swing and the fresh night air helped Kara relax, and soon she too was dozing off, holding Lena close in her arms.
Unbeknownst to them, Eliza had been quietly observing from the living room window. Seeing the two of them sleeping peacefully on the porch swing, she couldn't help but smile at the sight. She grabbed a cosy, soft blanket and silently made her way outside.
Eliza gently draped the blanket over Kara and Lena, making sure they were snug and warm. She leaned down and placed a soft kiss on each of their foreheads, feeling a sense of joy and contentment knowing that Kara had found someone like Lena to share her life with. She couldn’t be more proud of them.
With a motherly smile, Eliza whispered, "Sleep well, my girls," before quietly returning inside to let them rest.

The Mom Fine Print
Fandom: Supergirl Compilation: Moments in the Life of SuperFam A/N: A little SuperFam treat for @stranger-who-writes-fiction because she more than deserves it. This is set during the 3x06 "Midvale" era.
Eliza isn't supposed to know her girls are outside on the deck upstairs.
The microwave clock lets her know that it's almost 2 AM on a school night. Eliza mostly ignores that and continues her task. Midvale is lucky to be spared big city levels of light pollution, and the moonlight is sufficient for Eliza, who knows the kitchen like the back of her hand.
She prepares three mugs, lifts the pan from the stove top, and pours its contents into two of them. The third she fills with coffee. Eliza pours some marshmallows into a bowl and arranges it along with the mugs on a tray, balancing them carefully and heads for the deck.
Alex is on her feet the moment Eliza walks through the door.
"Mom!" She's about to give her best excuse until she spots what Eliza is carrying. She freezes then, using all her brain power to put two and two together before concluding correctly that they aren't in trouble.
Over by the telescope, Kara continues on unbothered.
She had been quiet during dinner. Eliza hadn't missed the concerned looks Alex had been shooting her way. There had been something knowing about them. Something that spoke of grief and Krypton.
"Of course when we break the rules for Kara, we get hot chocolate," Alex grumbles.
It's not exactly a fair assessment of course. Kara has gotten her fair share of scolding and lectures, especially when her actions put herself and their family at risk. In this particular case, the worst Kara and Alex can do is spend their upcoming day at school in a sleepy haze. Eliza isn't worried about that.
Nonetheless, Eliza is pleased to hear a fondness in Alex's voice that was more likely to be begrudging just a few months ago.
Eliza proffers the tray of hot chocolate and marshmallows. Alex eyes it suspiciously but caves quickly, grabbing a handful of marshmallows and dropping them into her hot chocolate.
As Alex retakes her seat on the cushioned bench, Eliza places the tray on the side table for whenever Kara's ready. She carries her own mug to the patio chair on Alex's left, so she can keep an eye on both her girls.
It's a good thing she does. In their attempt to be stealthy, Alex and Kara hadn't come out in more than their pajamas. When Eliza notices the nighttime chill starting to get to Alex, she goes inside to retrieve a blanket and drapes it over. Now relaxed into the situation, Alex receives it gratefully.
Alex tries her hardest to stay awake, but as the minutes turn into hours, she loses the battle. Other than gently coaxing Alex into a more comfortable position, Eliza leaves her be. Alex had clearly wanted to keep Kara company, and Eliza will respect that.
The coffee helps keep her awake, but even without it, Eliza thinks she'd manage to stay awake on her own. This is the "mom fine print," the drive to be there for her girls whenever they need her no matter the hour.
She watches Kara, who's still looking intently into the telescope, and checks on Alex once in a while, making sure she's still warm enough.
When twilight brightens the sky, Kara steps away from the telescope, appearing in a daze as the memories refuse to let her go.
Eliza walks across the deck to her. She rests her arms on the railing and turns to face Kara. She doesn't get too close. She doesn't pry. She'll let Kara decide how much she wants to engage.
"I made hot chocolate," Eliza says in case Kara wants an opening. "Would you like me to re-heat it for you?"
Kara doesn't respond at first. Eventually she returns to the present, stepping to Eliza's side and letting herself fall limply into Eliza's shoulder.
"Thank you," is all Kara says. It's all she can manage right now, but Eliza understands the enormity behind those two words. That's the other part of the "mom fine print."
Thank you for making hot chocolate for me, but, no, I don't need it re-heated right now.
Thank you for staying with me all night. Even lost in my memories, part of me could sense your presence, and it helped.
Thank you for letting Alex stay with me.
Thank you for not trying to stop us.
Eliza kisses the top of her head. "Always."
They stay like that for a moment. Then Kara straightens and turns to look at Alex, gaze fond.
"I've got her," Kara says. She easily lifts Alex into her arms and heads inside.
Eliza follows. "You should get some sleep too," she says.
Kara nods, more emotionally exhausted than anything else.
After making sure both of them are tucked in properly, Eliza heads back out to the deck to gather the mugs and bring them to the kitchen. She leaves everything on the counter. She can handle the clean up later.
Instead, she goes back upstairs to the girls' bedroom to make sure Kara has fallen asleep. Eliza tiptoes through the room, turning off the girls' alarm clocks. They deserve to sleep in today. Eliza kisses each of them on the forehead before going to her own bedroom.
When the time comes for everyone to leave for work or school, Eliza will call in sick for all of them.

Supercorptober 2022 Day 2: Swift
ao3 fic link. series link.
“Are you going to tell me where we’re going?”
“No.”
“Lena, I’m literally driving,” Kara says, gesturing to the road ahead of them. “You have to tell me where we’re going.”
Kara has been trying to figure out for the past week where they’re going. Lena had known they’d both needed a break, and wanted to do something nice for Kara, and so she’d suggested a weekend road trip.
It hadn’t taken much to convince Kara, just the promise of snacks, J’onn to watch over the city and a fun weekend away with her best friend. Lena had kept where they’re going a secret though, mostly because Kara loves surprises, but also because Lena knew Kara would do that ridiculously cute pout she does when Lena refused to tell her.
“I’ll give you directions, but I won’t tell you our destination. You’ll find out soon enough.”
“Fine,” Kara huffs out a breath, but Lena can tell she’s trying not to smile. She holds out her hand, palm up. “Snack me.”
Lena laughs. “What would you like?”
Kara glances at the pile of food Lena has brought with them. She definitely would have brought too much food if she was with anyone but Kara. “Gummy worms, please.”
Kara takes a handful from the offered packet and shoves them all in her mouth in one go. Not that they all fit, half end up hanging out of her mouth.
Lena shakes her head. She knows she should be disgusted, but she’s in way too deep to find it anything short of endearing. Her eyes stay on Kara as she chews, watches the flex of her jaw, admires the curves of her neck, her profile lit by the sun streaming through the window.
God, she’s beautiful.
Lena really is in too deep.
To distract herself, Lena fiddles with her phone and the radio, starts the playlist she set up specifically for this trip, songs she knows Kara loves.
Kara’s face visibly lights up when she recognises the first song immediately, knows it’s one of Kara’s favourites to sing along to.
“Lena Luthor,” Kara grins. “You are my favourite,” Kara says before she starts singing along with the song.
Lena flushes under Kara’s words, feels her whole body heat.
Stop it, she tells herself. She knows Kara doesn’t really mean it the way Lena wishes she did, but it still makes Lena feel ridiculously good to hear Kara say it.
Instead of spiralling in her mind, Lena focuses on Kara’s singing, her voice melodic as she sings along to the Taylor Swift classic.
One song transitions to the next, all Taylor Swift, and Lena can tell Kara’s having a great time, singing to every song, accepting all the snacks Lena offers her, grin on her face the whole time. Lena even sings along to a few songs she knows, caught up in Kara’s enthusiasm.
It’s the distraction that delays Kara figuring out where they’re going. Lena thought that Kara would’ve figured it out by now, but it’s when Lena tells Kara to take the next exit, that Kara realises their destination.
Kara turns to look at Kara, eyes wide. “We’re going to Midvale?”
Kara’s watching her for long enough that Lena’s worried they’re going to crash. “Eyes on the road,” Lena says, accompanying her words with a hand to Kara’s chin, tilting her head to face forwards again. “And yes, we are.”
Lena swallows, this was the part she’d been a bit nervous about. Inviting your best friend on a road trip? Nothing to worry about. Inviting yourself to stay at the childhood home of your best friend, a home with a mother who might have mixed feelings towards her after the events of the previous year? Nerve wracking.
Eliza had been nothing but kind when Lena had called to ask if she’d be okay if they came and stayed, but Lena’s not sure if that kindness was only so she could see her daughter, with Lena being the added extra that Eliza would have to put up with for the weekend.
“Rao, Lena! Thank you! Does Eliza know?”
“Yes, I called her and asked if we could stay.”
Kara is beaming. “I can’t wait to show you my old room, and we can go to the beach. There’s this really nice walk I used to go for a lot as a teenager that has the best lookout for the sunset, we should totally go see it tonight. And Rao, Eliza’s cooking! It’s sooo good.”
Kara’s practically vibrating in her seat, Lena doesn’t even need to ask if it’s okay with Kara that she’s invited herself to stay too, she can tell she’s thrilled by the idea.
Despite Kara’s excitement, Lena’s nerves are back in full force by the time they pull into the driveway. Kara is out of the car and heading towards the house as soon as the engine is off but Lena takes her time unbuckling and getting out of the car.
Eliza is already outside, pulling Kara into a hug so Lena goes to the back of the car to grab their luggage, lets them have a moment alone.
They’re talking in quiet voices when Lena approaches, a bag in each hand.
“Oh, sorry!” Kara exclaims when she spots Lena, immediately rushing over to grab the bags from Lena.
The bags were heavy, but Kara takes them both in one hand, her other hand dropping to squeeze Lena’s. Lena’s cheeks heat when she sees Eliza’s eyes follow the movement.
“Mrs. Danvers, so nice to see you again.”
“Please, dear,” Eliza waves her hand. “Call me Eliza, and it’s so lovely to see you again too.”
And then, to Lena’s complete and utter surprise, Eliza steps forward and pulls Lena into a hug.
Lena freezes for a moment, her arms working on autopilot to return the hug. It doesn’t last long, but Lena has to fight the tears that threaten her eyes. It’s the first time in a long time she’s received a hug from someone resembling a mother. It’s also a much warmer welcome than she’d been expecting.
“Kara, can you show Lena to the guest room,” Eliza says when she steps away. “And then I’ve made some lunch if you two are hungry?”
---
Staying in Midvale is nothing like Lena had expected. She’s not sure what she expected now that she thinks about it, but it’s not this.
She didn’t expect the warm welcoming from Eliza, didn’t expect Eliza to share stories of a teen Kara while they ate lunch, Kara blushing the whole time, trying to get Eliza to stop while Eliza and Lena just laugh. She didn’t except to get dragged into the waves at the beach by Kara, both in their clothes, laughing as they tried to splash each other.
She did expect to go for a walk after dinner, to watch the sunset, but only because Kara mentioned it earlier.
Leaves and twigs crunch underfoot as they walk, Kara leading the way with their joined hands. The walk leads them to a small cliff, overlooking the ocean, the view stunning, the sky starting to turn orange as the sun goes down.
“This is beautiful,” Lena says. It’s peaceful, with the sound of birds behind them, the sound of the ocean below, and blue stretching out as far as the eye can see.
Kara squeezes their still joined hands, Lena trying not to overthink the fact that they’d really been no reason for Kara to reach out and take her hand as they walked, no reason for Kara still to be holding her hand now. “It is. I miss this place, thank you for surprising me with this.”
They watch as the sun drops towards the horizon, the few clouds in the sky making the colours even more gorgeous as the orange mixes with blue to create a stunning image in front of them. With Kara beside her, after the fun they’ve had today, this might actually be one of Lena’s favourite days ever.
Lena smiles. “Anytime.”
They watch as the sun goes down, the colours only getting more vibrant as it does. It’s almost below the horizon when Kara’s voice startles Lena.
“Wait! We need a photo!” Kara pulls out her phone and spins them around, so the sun is behind them. Kara slots herself even closer to Lena’s side, hand dropping Lena’s in favour of winding its way around Lena’s waist.
Lena’s cheeks are red but she doesn’t need to be told to smile, not when Kara’s face is smiling back at her from the phone screen, the sky orange behind them.
Kara immediately sets the photo as her phone background and Lena’s heart skips in her chest. She makes a mental note to get Kara to send her the photo later too.
Kara’s head drops to Lena’s shoulder as they turn back around to watch the last of the sun setting. “I’m happy I got to share this weekend with you.”
With the warmth of the sun almost gone, there’s a chill in the air now, but Kara’s body against hers is keeping her warm.
“Me too.”
It’s properly dark by the time they get back to the house, Lena thankful she had the foresight to bring a torch for the walk back. Eliza has dessert waiting for them, and Lena falls a little bit more in love at how giddy Kara is at the prospect of more food.
And not just any food, Eliza’s famous chocolate pecan pie, which is actually pretty delicious.
Something else Lena didn’t expect, is for them both to fall asleep in the guest bed after they’d stayed up too late, Kara sharing her own stories about growing up in Midvale, away from everything she’d ever known and loved.
When Lena wakes the next morning, it’s to birds chirping and Kara lying on the pillow beside her, lightly snoring.
Lena allows herself a moment to just watch, to trace the line of Kara’s nose, the curve of her eyelashes, the freckles scattered high on Kara’s cheeks that Lena has the sudden urge to press her lips too.
And then she does actually reach out, with her hand though, lets her fingers brush lightly against Kara’s cheek. “Kara, wake up,” she says quietly. She can hear Eliza downstairs, knows Kara won’t want to sleep in, will want to make the most of the day before they have to leave this afternoon. There’s a market this morning that Eliza had suggested they visit.
Kara hums, blinks sleepy eyes open, blue and stunning in the soft light of the morning. “Hi,” Kara smiles softly.
“Hello,” Lena whispers, almost afraid to break this little moment. This is what Lena wants, every day, for the rest of her life. She wants sleepy mornings and Kara looking at her with the softest expression Lena has ever seen.
“Did you sleep well?”
Lena hasn’t slept this well in a long time. “I did, you?”
Kara’s smile grows. “I did too.”
There’s more noise from downstairs and Lena remembers they’re meant to be getting up. She also doesn’t want Eliza to come looking for them, and find them in bed together. She’s not sure what Kara’s mother would think.
“We should get up, especially if you still want to go to the market this morning.”
Lena’s already moving away when a warm hand on her arm stops her. “Wait.”
Lena settles her head back down on the pillow beside Kara, waits patiently for her to continue. When she doesn’t, Lena prompts her. “Kara? What is it?”
Kara shifts herself, not away, but closer. Lena’s watching her so intently that she doesn’t miss the way Kara’s eyes dart down and land of Lena’s lips.
“Can I…?” Kara asks, voice shaking more than Lena expects, but enough to know what Kara means, if the way Kara’s eyes are now stuck on her mouth hasn’t already given it away.
Lena swallows, heart pounding in her chest. She can’t speak, doesn’t think her voice would work if she tries so she just nods instead.
Kara’s mouth is soft and warm when it presses over hers, hesitant and all encompassing. The touch only lasts for a moment, before Kara’s pulling away, looking more nervous than Lena has ever seen her.
Lena’s not sure how her brain is still working, considering Kara just kissed her. “What was that for?”
“Because I wanted to,” Kara simply says, eyes flickering over Lena’s face. “Is that okay?”
Lena thinks she’s going to cry. “It’s more than okay.”
The words are barely out of her mouth when Kara is kissing her again.
Today has barely started but it’s already fighting yesterday for it’s position as Lena’s favourite day.
Lena surprises herself by being the one to bring up the fact that they need to get out of bed a while later, when she could happily spend the rest of forever in bed with Kara.
Lena hopes that Eliza can’t tell that she just spent the last half an hour making out in bed with her daughter. Lena can’t stop blushing, or smiling, and Kara keeps smiling at her too, so Lena wouldn’t be surprised if Eliza figured it out.
At the market, Kara buys Lena a bunch of flowers and asks her on a date and Lena almost melts on the spot.
Lena gets another big hug from Eliza before they leave, and the whispered, “I’m so happy for you both,” has Lena blushing again.
They spend the whole drive home singing to Taylor Swift songs again, Kara directing every single romantic line at her and maybe Lena should just call this weekend her favourite weekend ever instead of trying to pick a favourite day because she’s not sure she can.

“Mom, I threw up.” You stand in front of her, the bathroom, lighting up your silhouette. “Mom?” Nudging her a bit, she fluttered her eyes open and asked what happened. “I threw up.” Your voice was raspy, the both of you could hear the sickness in it. Moving out of your moms way, she got up and left into the light of the blaring bathroom. Taking the opportunity to get into her bed, she came back out with a wash cloth,
“Do you feel hot?” Kara asked, thinking back to all the nights her older sister was sick and Eliza would be there to comfort her, not just that but make her feel better. She was almost always awake when this would happen, as she wanted to make sure her sister wasn’t in need of her own help. Now that the superhero had her own daughter, this information came in handy, but the kid hadn’t been so seriously sick since the adoption and moving in. You nodded your head, mumbling in agreement.
“My tummy hurts, too.” Kara wasn’t sure how to respond with something would psyhically help, “I’m sorry, honey, I know sleep will help.” You groan at her and turn over in her mother’s covers.
“No,” You whined, “it really hurts, mom.” Kara’s heart skipped a beat, from worry but also from guilt. She was always worried for her daughter, but Kara had never been sick here on Earth, she didn’t know how to specifically comfort her daughter, or even make her feel better like Eliza always had.
“You stay right here,” Kara laid the wash cloth on her daughter's forehead and moved out to her dark kitchen, ringing her sister.
“Alex, Y/n isn’t feeling well at all. She threw up, and I just don’t know how to make the sickness stop. You know I’ve never been sick. I need some help. Call me back, thanks.” Stopping the voice message, she took a second thinking about who could help her at a time like this.
“Kara, what are you doing calling me at this time of night?”
“Y/n’s sick and I don’t know what else to do to help her. I don’t want to give her some medicine and it kill her, she’s so fragile.”
“Your not gonna kill her, Kara-” Kara cut her adoptive mom off.
“I might,” Eliza could tell she was stressed.
“You won’t. She’s human Kara, she’ll be alright for the night.”
“Are you sure? She said her stomach hurts? How do I help with that? She threw up too.”
“You can make sure she doesn’t need to throw-”
“Y/n?” Kara blurted out, watching you run back into the bathroom and let the rest of your stomach go.
“Pull her hair back,” Kara pulls back your hair, wincing at the smell and tucked her phone between her shoulder and ear. “Make sure she doesn’t drink anything for a little while after throwing up, she might throw it all up again.”
“She's not a little baby.” Kara began to stroke your hair gently.
“But she will need fluids, just not right after. Make a washcloth for her, oh, hun, don’t forget to check her temperature. You guys try to get some sleep for the night and I’ll be over in the morning. Goodnight, Kara.”
“Eliza, I don't-” She hung up. Kara slumped over, catching her phone, holding most of your hair with the other hand, whilst setting her phone aside. Turning her focus back to you, she saw you were just hovering over the toilet. “Feeling better?” Her only answer was more chunks of last night's dinner flying into the toilet. After finally getting you clean of sickness from changing your clothes, wiping your face and doing the same to the bathroom, you and Kara got cozy in her bed.
“Sleep, baby. Tomorrow we’ll go to Alex and make sure you get better.”
“Mommy?”
“Yes…?”
“I want you to make me better, I’m not a patient.”
“Go to sleep, we’ll talk in the morning.” She kissed your red cheek.
The next morning…
You fluttered your eyes open to the noise of a voice coming from the kitchen. Your head ached, throat was dry and you were cold, so cold, even in your mom's thick covers. Again hearing someone in the kitchen. Kara was either trying to learn how to cook again, Alex was here or you were being robbed which didn't have much of a chance of being true.
“Moooom…” You groaned, the other voice abruptly stopping and she came into view from around the corner, immediately smiling when she saw you.
“How's my girl? Feeling better?” Before you could respond she continued almost excitedly. “I have some medicine, you said your stomach hurt? Does anything else hurt? Your head, do you have a runny nose, what about your throat, honey?” She was leaning over you, in an overbearing type of way.
You groaned again, “Everything.”
“Everything…?” Kara was confused and didn't understand how everything could be wrong, but tried to process it. “Okay… I’ll be right back…” She ran back to her computer when there was a knock on the door, and you called out for her again.
“Just a minute, Y/n/n,” She opened the door, “Eliza…!” She wasn't sure if she should be happy or overwhelmed.
“Kara! How is she feeling?” Kara took a deep breath.
“She told me everything hurts,” Right on cue you groaned out for her again. She walked back in and sat on the bed next to you.
“What's up?” Tucking the hair behind your ear, you sniffled.
“Am I sick?” Kara rests her face.
“I’m afraid so. Let's take your temperature.” When she moved to get up you pulled on her arm as she tried to get away. “Y/n, I’ll be right back.” She walked back to Eliza, as you move around trying to find a comfy position on the bed. Back in the kitchen Eliza had set her things down and was looking at the pile on the island table.
“Do you see the thermometer in there?” Eliza shook her head, moving back to her purse. “Damn,” Kara whispered to herself and started to look around for her coat.
“I brought one, Kara.” Eliza handed a thermometer out to her.
“No, I can go buy one, really, I need one anyway.” She chuckles lightly, gesturing to you in her bed. She could hear you groaning quietly from pain.
“Take it, make sure she’s not too hot.”
“Mommy come back now!” You yelled for her.
“Coming, sweetheart,” She took the thermometer and nodded in agreement, “Thank you.” Eliza smiled and as Kara raced over to you, Eliza came into view and saw how her daughter took care of you. She had no knowledge of sickness. Turning back towards the kitchen, wanting to make you something to eat Eliza saw the computer. It was open to a tab about how to care for a sick kid. Under the website ‘Wiki How’
“104.2? Is that bad?”
“What! 104? I’m calling Alex.”
“What? Is 104 a high temp?” Kara questioned unsure. You, on the verge of going back to sleep, your mom came and woke you up.
“Stooop! I was almost asleep.” You harshly move away from her, annoyed people were waking you up.
“I’m sorry, we have to go. Y/n,” She tried to pick you up, but your squirming was not helping. “Y/n, this is not the time.” She warned and you whined. “What's wrong? What's wrong?” She asked, starting to sound exhausted.
“I don't want to go.”
“I wish I didn't have to take you there, baby, but it'll make you feel better.” She tried again and you accepted her, dangling your arms around her neck loosely.
“Promise?”
“Promise.” Kara leaped out the window, Eliza on the phone with Alex who was getting you a bed made in MedBay.

Need A Little Love?
Eliza looked at Lena, and Lena felt gooseflesh raise on her arms, her eyes shutting naturally to try and keep out what she knows will be a cold look of regret.
Kara had brought Lena home this summer, it was their first summer Together. As a Couple. Sure, Lena had visited Eliza and the Danvers' family home a few times here and there as friends, but ... there was a difference.
Prodding Lena with a little nudge, Kara could tell she was anxious. Lena blinked weakly--- hating herself at the same time she was doing so. Kindness is weakness, or worse you're complacent.
No.
Lillian's voice seemed to be banished--- as soon as Lena opened her eyes, though the chore seemed to be like the longest of her life, Eliza was giving her the brightest smile and the kindest look.
"I just hope y'all know what you've put me through these years," Eliza states with a warm, Southern welcome though she has a tear in her eye. "I never thought I'd live to see the day my Kara was this happy. Cm'ere, Lena. If that's okay?" She asked at last, half hesitating as she saw Lena freezing up.
For once, Lena acts first. "Of course, yes. I--" she started to say.
"Hush, just let me love you for a second okay? That's all we need sometimes. Just a second of love."
// a lil toast to @wonder-never-wander &, to his Az: thanks for helping me keep this doofus alive. (said with all the love of a proud ukr)

Kindred Spirits, Part II
Fandoms: Supergirl, Nikita A/N: Kara Zor-El and Alexandra Udinov both had their lives turned upside down when they were about the same age, so I thought, what if I make them small and sad together? Continuation of Part I, but now with supermom Eliza. Content Warnings: Nikita-canon-typical mentions of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, drug use, non-consensual sex
Kara watches Eliza prepare breakfast before school.
She braces herself and then ventures tentatively, "I made a new friend."
"That's wonderful!" says Eliza, quickly laying down the fruit she'd been cutting. She turns to give Kara her full attention, beaming. "Is it one of your classmates?"
For most kids, that would probably be true, but Kara has been forging her own path on this planet. She knows Eliza hopes that one day she'll make human friends her age, but she's found more comfort and familiarity in strays like Streaky.
Sasha is human and her age, but she's not a classmate. It's hard to be someone's classmate from three thousand miles away.
Speaking of how she's been traversing those three thousand miles...
"Please don't be mad."
Eliza stiffens slightly, but she does a good job of masking her concern. When she speaks, her voice is calm, gentle even. "Why would I be mad?"
Kara takes a deep breath and then launches into her story. She's been back to visit Sasha a few times now. Each visit has shed more light on the horrifying situation Sasha and the other girls are in. It's impossible to keep the emotion out of her voice as she sees her own horror reflected back to her in Eliza's increasingly distraught expression.
To her credit, Eliza lets her get it all out before sighing, "Oh, Kara."
"I'll stop complaining about school," Kara promises vehemently. "I don't know how to fix this. I don't know how to fix Earth things. I know that now. I'll go to school, and I'll learn." She'll endure the inane math and science classes, the boring history classes, anything if it means she'll be able to help people like Sasha in the future. "Please. They need help."
...
Kara stands just to Eliza's left and holds out her arms.
"When I fly with Alex--I mean, when I flew with Alex, we would..."
Eliza notes the present tense slip up and knows she'll have to revisit it later, even if it does pale in comparison to what else has apparently been transpiring.
Jeremiah would put a stop to all of this immediately. Perhaps that's why she hasn't told him yet. Or perhaps, Eliza tells herself, he's already busy with the DEO and doesn't need anything else to worry about.
It's a flimsy excuse, but Eliza knows herself and she knows her daughter. Eliza can tell Kara not to go back, but that doesn't mean Kara won't. And as for Eliza herself, well, she won't be forgetting about those girls in a hurry.
With that in mind, Eliza settles into Kara's hold as she gently hovers above the ground to test Eliza's comfort level.
Then they're off.
It's her first time flying with Kara. Under different circumstances, she'd reflect on the absolute wonder of it. The view is spectacular, and when the wind is in danger of drying out her eyes, she closes them and revels in the feel of the wind against her skin.
And it's all courtesy of her daughter.
Flight. Super speed. Super strength. So many of Kara's powers on display.
But there's no time. Before long, Kara is landing them on the roof of their destination and gesturing for her to wait.
Kara has scoped out the building and the guards' schedules in advance, but she does a run through of the building now just in case. As much as this is a mission to save the girls, Kara has been adamant that Eliza's safety is also a top priority.
Tonight, most of the guards have been pulled away for something else. No one has been assigned in their place. The people in charge clearly found little threat in a bunch of drug-addicted girls with no where to go.
Eliza's here to make sure they have somewhere to go.
And that's only one of the many things they'll need help with.
Addiction treatment, trauma counseling, health check ups, social services (are they safe to go back to their families or did their families give them up), things Eliza's forgetting, things she'd never consider.
Because as much as she is the adult, as much as she's been a lifelong resident of this planet and this country, as much as she can be said to know more than Kara, she doesn't know enough.
When she meets the girls, the one thing she does know for certain is that she will absolutely be crying later.
...
Kara's new friend Sasha is Alexandra Udinov, the lost heiress to a billion dollar company called Zetrov.
At least, to the rest of the world, she is.
To Sasha, she is the lost daughter of parents who had been murdered in their home while it burned down around them. The only part of being an heiress that matters is that she will most likely be killed the moment she resurfaces.
Eliza's mind nearly crashes and burns because of course, of course life had yet another curve ball to throw her way.
And she finds out in perhaps the worst possible way.
Like Kara's earlier protectiveness, Eliza isn't helping the girls blindly. She can't forget that some of the girls have seen Kara use her powers. She can help the girls and investigate the potential threat level at the same time.
By Kara's account, only two of the girls have seen her use her powers. The first girl Kara saved poses no threat. Eliza can't deny that there's something horrifying and perverse in the relief that she was too high, too lost in her nightmare of a reality to remember anything.
Sasha is another story entirely. While Kara may have initially manifested herself as a hallucination with magical powers, her subsequent visits and Eliza's presence are proof that she's more than a heroin-induced fever dream.
Eliza can't help it. Her questions come out a little too pointed, a little too probing. Sasha picks up on the threat assessment, and she visibly retreats, understanding that being a threat to Kara has turned into a threat against herself.
Kara must have made quite the impression though, enough to make Eliza completely trustworthy by association, because Sasha offers up her own identity as collateral. She doesn't say the words, merely shows Eliza her father's watch, holding it out for Eliza to see but not far enough to hand it over, to risk giving it up.
The pieces of Eliza's heart, already broken by the tragedy around her, shatter. She takes in Sasha's hunched frame, terrified she made the wrong choice in trusting Eliza, and feels the oxygen in her blood transform into a self-loathing guilt as her vessels deliver it to every cell in her body.
It's no wonder, really, that Kara and Sasha had bonded so quickly--two girls whose worlds had burned down around them, families lost, and who now live in a world where revealing their real identities could only result in death or worse.
"Can I hug you?" Eliza asks.
Sasha's tiny frame trembles in her arms, unused to comfort after so many months and unsure if it's real.
"Oh, sweetheart," Eliza murmurs, and whatever walls Sasha valiantly tried to maintain dissolve now. Her muscles slacken, and the only movement comes from her lungs, heaving with sobs.
The thought of adopting Sasha passes through Eliza's mind.
She would probably need a new identity and papers, which is doable. They know a guy.
Goodness, she's starting to sound like some sort of career criminal.
"California woman convicted of serial child adoption," the headline would read.
But reality pops the idealistic dream forming in her head. Eliza still has to deal with Jeremiah. Alex has been handling the adjustment from only child to older sister admirably, but Eliza knows they can only ask so much of her. The steep increase from financially supporting one to three children cannot be ignored, not to mention the ever-growing dark cloud of external threats hanging over their heads.
Eliza clutches Sasha tighter and promises, swears to both Sasha and herself, that she'll figure something out.

Through Susie's Eyes
I did this for the Writing Workshop Week 1: Show & Tell from @bettsfic and @books. Hope you guys enjoy!
Fandom: Supergirl
Characters: Original Character Susie The Doll, Kara Danvers, Eliza Danvers, Lena Luthor, Alex Danvers, Original Characters-Ari Arias and Jonas Arias
Summary: A doll is given to a teenage girl. Will she treasure it or think it is something trivial?
Word Count: 3401
Susie sat on the box counting the stokes the spider made on his web ahead of her. It was the only lively thing in this place in recent months. Or had it been years. It is really too hard to tell. She is in the attic after all. There is a window in front of her, but it is all smudged. You can only tell if it is night or day. She tried to listen for sounds, but heard none. She sighed. Once the younger girls had moved out of the house, no one was really ever around except the mother. However, that is barely true. She is only here to sleep and is then off to who knows where.
Susie felt a shift in the box she was sitting on. The side of the box had lost stability and began to tear. It caused the side of the box that Susie was on to dip and she fell down to the ground. She fell on her side grateful that the box also didn’t come tumbling down on her. She looked in front of her and saw her reflection in the mirror. She knew that her looks had degraded, but didn’t know it had gotten this bad. Her button eyes were sagging, her dress was torn, her red hair was missing in chunks and the ones that were left were frazzled, her shoes were scuffed, and her hands (or could she even call them hands since she didn’t have fingers), had small puffs of cotton coming out. Her blue ribbons were completely missing and the trim of her dress was now a grayish color. She always hated that mirror because it showed her imperfections every single time. Looking at herself made her think about what she looked like in her former glory when she met her person, Kara.
Long Ago
Susie was in a box with the other Susie dolls at the Tree General Store. All of them looked the same: red braided pigtails with a blue ribbon at the end, a blue long sleeve dress with a white ribbon going around the middle, white trim going around the end of the sleeves and the bottom of the dress, white socks, black penny loafer shoes, black button eyes, a red button nose, and a black stitch smile. The dream of a doll was to be picked by their person and go to their forever home. The waiting was brutal. She heard of dolls having to wait years to be picked by their person.
Susie felt fortunate that she was only on the shelf for a week. The mother had picked her up. Usually, most parents are happy or at least content picking up the toy for their child. However, she noticed that this mom looked really sad and a little bit frazzled.
“Bringing a child a doll should be a joyous occasion,” thought Susie as they headed to the checkout line.
Despite this perplexing display of emotion, Susie couldn’t help but be excited about the child she was about to meet. She dreamed of all the new toys she would get to meet and all the tea parties they would get to have. She snapped out of her daydream when she realized the car had stopped.
The mother took her inside. It was a nice house from what Susie could tell. There was a spacious living room. They ended up making a stop in the kitchen. The mother took her out of the box and placed her into a pink small bag surrounded by tissue paper.
“This is it! I will finally meet my person!” thought Susie excitedly.
Susie could tell they were on the move again and that it sounded like they were heading up some stairs. After a little bit, she heard a knock.
“Kara, is it okay if I come in”
“You can come in, Eliza,” said Kara softly.
Susie heard the mother shuffle forward, but then stopped. It was silent for a minute until Susie felt the bag being handed over to Kara.
“I know that you have been having nightmares since you have gotten here. I know this isn’t much, but I thought it would help.”
“Nightmares. That is terrible. I hope I can bring some comfort to this child,” thought Susie.
She felt hands go into the bag and wrap around her waist pulling her up. As she faced her new person, they both stared at each other baffled. Well, if Susie could make faces it would be one of bafflement. Before her was not a child, but a teenage girl. She had heard horror stories about them. They were at the age where they grew out of playing with any toy and focus on more trivial things like make up, boys, and fashion. She felt her heart sink at the possibility that she may be thrown out a lot sooner than she thought.
Kara looked up to the mother and said, “Why did you give me a doll?”
The mother looked down nervously and said, “I know it may be silly. However, when i was younger, I had frequent nightmares. One thing that helped me through them was my doll Lilly.”
“But this thing can’t do anything!”
The mother sighed and said, “Sometimes, the best thing anyone can ask for is someone to listen.”
She kissed Kara’s forehead before heading out of the room.
Kara stared back perplexed at Susie.
Kara shook her head and said, “I don’t know why she thinks a doll can solve my problems.”
“I can listen though,” Susie thought hopefully.
“It is not like you can stop the nightmares of seeing my home planet explode every single night. You can’t stop the feeling I get that I am being followed by the phantoms from the phantom zone after staying there for so long. You can’t bring my family b…”
Kara broke into tears. She brought Susie into her chest hugging her hard. She then curled into  little ball on her bed. Susie was shocked that a girl so young has gone through so much tragedy. She wished there was more that she could do for Kara, her person. All she can do is be by her side and be a sounding board.
Kara held her in her arms until she fell asleep. Susie wished for her sweet dreams. The next morning, she watched Kara wake up with a baffled look on her face.
“No nightmares,” said Kara bewildered.
She looked down at Susie and smiled.
“I guess Eliza was right about you.”
If Susie could smile, she would.
“I am not going to be thrown out!” she thought excitedly.
As much as she wished for having tea parties and other toys to talk with, Susie was happy with the groove that she and Kara developed. At the end of each day before bed, she would tell Susie about her day. It was mostly school and boys. It sounded like survival of the fittest to Susie, but Kara seemed to enjoy it. As Susie spent more time with Kara, she realized that she wasn’t your everyday child. She had a tendency of breaking things easily. Desk, chairs, walls, etc. You name it, she had at least broken it once. Normally, Susie would just think she was a klutz, but some of the things that she did seemed beyond human.
Susie didn’t really think anything of Kara’s behavior until she watched them float to the ceiling one night. Susie initially thought it was the phantoms Kara had talked about until Kara woke up and yelped. They instantly fell back to the bed.
“I can fly,” said Kara with a smile.
Susie watched as Kara proceeded to try to jump off the bed and fly but no success. After the twelfth time, she huffed and clutched Susie in her chest.
“I know I didn’t just imagine this,” huffed Kara.
She turned Susie over so that she was looking her directly in the face and asked, “You saw it, didn’t you Susie? I flew. I wonder if Clark would be willing to…”
She sighed as she fell on the bed while holding Susie.
“He barely sees me now. Why did I even think he could help me,” muttered Kara.
Susie hated whoever this Clark person was. Every time Kara mentions him the spirit always drains out of her eyes. She wishes she could provide more comfort to her. However, all she could do was watch.
Susie didn’t know how Kara did it, but she figured out how to fly. Whenever her sister Alex didn’t want to go with her, she would take Susie to fly at night. Sometimes they would just fly though the sky looking at the constellations. Other times, they would fly to the beach and sit in the sand making sand castles or just sit watching the waves roll in. Susie enjoyed these times with Kara the most because it was when Kara was the most at peace with herself. Her blue eyes would sparkle and the smile on her face just screamed joy. She admired how Kara went from being a scared teenager to a young adult.
“An adult,” Susie sighed.
For toys like Susie, the worse thing than watching your child become a teenager was to watch them become an adult. Some toys are lucky to stay with their person through their teenage years, but to stay as an adult. That was never heard of. As Kara’s graduation from high school grew closer, Susie dreaded it. She knew soon that she was going to meet her fate. A couple of days before Kara went to college, Susie was put face up in a box with a random assortment of items.
“I am being given away,” thought Susie sadly.
She felt the box on the move until everything stopped. She then felt them start driving.
“Let’s hope that I will be picked up by another girl that needs help,” thought Susie hopefully.
Susie was lost in thought until she felt the car stopped. Her heart sank that this was it. She felt them begin to move a while until they stopped and felt the box being placed on a hard surface. She watched the box open and was startled at what she saw: Kara.
She grabbed Susie and placed her on the desk next to her bed.
“I didn’t get left behind!”
If Susie could cry tears of joy, she would. She didn’t know what she did to deserve Kara. She talked to Susie less since entering college. She was busy with making new friends, doing new activities, and school. However, the conversations that they did have were more meaningful. Kara didn’t have a sense of direction of what she wanted to do in college. Susie thought that it had to do with Clark though. Kara would talk about her love of literature, writing, meeting new people, and fighting for people’s rights. She would be a perfect journalist. Susie would watch Kara make diagrams that took up the whole wall on what careers she could do. All Susie could do is sigh when she watched her do this.
“I hope she realizes that being in journalism won’t make her like that jerk Clark,” thought Susie.
It took Kara three years of denial, but Susie was glad that Kara came to the conclusion that journalism was the correct path all on her own. Once Kara embraced her career choice, she soared in all of her classes. She even got an internship at a famous magazine. Kara would often come back from the internship complaining about her boss, but overall loving the experience. Susie was just happy to see that Kara was finding her way in life.
One thing that Susie didn’t like is when people would come over. Sometimes, when people came over, Kara would turn her over and wrap a ribbon around her eyes and ears. She would stay like that until her guest left. Kara would always look flushed when she finally took the ribbons off of her.
“I hope you didn’t hear anything that would scar you for life Susie,” Kara chuckled.
She would say that every time. Susie wished she knew what it meant. She just hated the feeling that she was being put in time out. However, when she looked at Kara, it made her wonder if she was doing it for her benefit. At least, she hoped she was.
Soon Kara was graduating college. As she watched Kara leave for the ceremony in her black and gold gown, she wondered if she would be able to see what type of adult she will become as she gets older. She didn’t know what to expect. No toy she knew of has gotten this far.
“I don’t think she would abandon me now though,” thought Susie hesitantly.
As she sat in thought, she didn’t realize Kara came back until she placed her on top of a box and carried her out to the car. They drove back to her home. When they arrived, she placed her and the box at the door, and then she went to eat. Kara then left to meet with some friends. After a little bit, the mother came down and took the box and her to the attic.
As she saw the mother walking away leaving her there, Susie tried to scream, “No, I am meant to be with Kara. Don’t leave me here!”
However, no one could hear her screams. There, Susie has sat waiting for Kara’s return.
Present Day
As Susie laid on the dusty floor, she wondered if Kara even thinks of her and sighs.
“I hope that wherever you are, you are happy.”
Suddenly, Susie hears the attic door hope. She hears footsteps coming towards her and then stops.
“Are you sure you left her up here?”
A moment of silence happens before the footsteps continue.
“You don’t have to yell. It is just no one has seen her in years. I will be….Okay, Okay, I will look.”
The person starts walking again until their feet are now in her view. The person picked her up and Susie was surprised to see it was Alex.
Alex picked back up the phone and said, “I found Susie, but she is in bad shape.”
She remained silent a couple of minutes while listening to the other person on the other end. Susie wished she could hear what the other person was saying.
After a couple of more minutes, Alex sighed and said, “I know what to do.”
She disconnected the call and stared at Susie with a frown on her face.
“I was hoping you were in a better state. However, we still have time to get you ready before they arrive.”
“Who are they? What are you going to do to me?” thought Susie terrified.
After being in the attic for so long, parts of her wondered if they were going to send her off to a second hand shop or even worse, a garbage dump. Susie laid in despair as Alex brought them down to the kitchen. Susie watched as Alex went and brought back a sewing kit. She gradually fixed her eyes and sewed her new hair. She then took off her clothes and shoes, and placed Susie in the washer machine.
Susie hated the washer machine. It was dizzying and she couldn’t see what was going on with all the soap suds everywhere. The water made her body heavy. The only positive thing about the experience was that she didn’t have any dust or webs on her anymore. When Alex took her out, she thought the nightmare was over until she put her in the dryer. It made her lighter again, but it made her disoriented and hot. Once she got out of the dryer, she was really out of it. It took her a couple of minutes to realize that she was facing the phone and could see her reflection. She squealed internally with joy. She looked like her former self. Her dress looked like it was brand new, her pigtails were back, the trim on her dress were white and she now had ribbons. Her arms no longer had cotton coming out of them.
“I took the photo mom, and I sent it to you….Yes, I think they are going to love this.”
Alex turned to Susie with a smile and said, “You are really going to make a couple of people’s day.”
She placed Susie in a pink bag with tissue paper. It reminded her of the day she met Kara. She wonders if the people that Alex talked about were as nice as her. Susie thought that they were going to leave, but surprised they stayed in the kitchen. She suddenly hears a knock. Alex gets up and leaves her in the kitchen. Susie waits nervously.
“I got extremely lucky with Kara. Hopefully, these new people will be just as great,” thought Susie hopefully.
Susie suddenly felt the bag begin to move. They don’t move far though. A hand comes into the bag and picks her up. Once she gets out, she is overjoyed. In front of her is Kara with tears streaming down her face. She instantly hugs Susie very tightly.
“I thought that I lost you,” cried Kara.
Susie beamed inside. Kara never forgot about her. She just couldn’t find her. Kara looked up at Alex with a joyous expression on her face.
“Where did you find her?”
“She was in the attic.”
Kara frowned and said, “The attic? I never placed her there.”
Alex sighed and said, “I think mom did it by accident. I think she thought that you wanted Susie in storage with the rest of your things.”
“I think she did it on purpose,” Susie sulked to herself.
Kara scoffed at Alex and said, “As if I would put Susie in storage.”
Another woman came into Susie’s view and said, “So this is the infamous Susie.”
“Yes, Lena. The very one that Kara accused me of throwing away over the years which she still hasn’t apologized for.”
Kara sighed and said, “I am sorry. I should have known you wouldn’t do something like that. I think that I was just mad that I couldn’t find her and you were an easy target.”
Alex patted her on the back and said, “I understand. I know how much that doll means to you.”
“Do you really think that Alexa will like her though?” asked Lena,
Kara smiled proudly and said, “Alexa will love her. Susie is the best. She listens to your problems and makes everything better.”
“Really?” chuckled Lena.
“I know it sounds silly. However, when I first came to earth, I didn’t have an outlet. It was just nice to talk to her knowing that she was there to listen and not judge.”
Lena kissed Kara on the forehead and said, "I am glad to hear that darling.”
Kara looked down beaming at Susie and said, “Now it is time to introduce you to someone special.”
Kara brought Susie over to the couch where sat two car seats. One had a baby girl with black hair and green eyes that was clutching a brown bear. The other seat had a baby girl with blonde hair and blue eyes that was a little fussy.
“Wonder if she will throw Susie like every toy we have tried to give her,” murmured Lena.
Kara chuckled while shaking her head. She sat on the couch and pulled the blonde girl out of the car seat. She placed Susie in the baby girl’s arms.
“Alexa, I want you to meet Susie. She is the best friend and listener you will ever meet.”
Alexa looked down and smiled at Susie and grabbed her into a hug. Kara looked up at Lena with a smug look on her face.
“I told you she would like her.”
“Yes, you did. I am glad that we finally found something she likes,” said Lena, smiling softly.
Susie felt overjoyed. Not only did she get returned to Kara again, but now she will be a special friend to her daughter too. She knew that she could always depend on Kara, and she hoped that she could provide her daughter with the same level of comfort that she provided to Kara when she was younger.

Chapter 7 - Calm Before the Storm
Lennox POV
On the last stretch towards Midvale, I decide to put my book down because I'm a little car sick. I don't feel like I have to throw up but my head is definitely hot and hurting.
"Hey, love you okay? Your face is a bit pale." Lena says turning to face me with her hand on my thigh.
"Yeah I'll be okay. I'm just a bit car sick from reading for too long I think." I say putting my head down.
"Here, drink some water, babe." Lena hands me a water bottle.
About 45 minutes later we pull up to Eliza's house. I'm nervous to meet her. I love Kara so I want to make a good impression for her adoptive mom. We get out of the car and I have to lean up against the car a bit, due to still being dizzy.
"Woah, hey you alright Len?" Kara asks helping me so I'm leaning on her.
"Yeah, just still a bit dizzy. It's starting to go away." I say basically hugging her.
"Well I think Eliza might have made some dinner so once we get some food in you, I'm sure you'll feel better. Sound good?" She asks with my face in her hands.
"Yeah." I smile.
Eliza comes out to greet us and she tackles me into a hug first.
"You must be Lennox! I'm so glad you're here and that Lena found you. She's told us so much about you over the past 4 years. I love you already." She says hugging me tightly.
I sometimes forget that Lena has been in National City for this long and had to endure me being missing and not being able to find me. I'm not mad that people know the base of what I've been through, but it makes me ashamed and feel like I'm a nuisance sometimes. Lena is trying to drill it into me that I'm not, but old habits and thoughts die hard when they were literally beaten into you.
"It's nice to meet you too, Eliza! Thanks for letting me come stay and visit you. I'm glad Lena found me too." I say hugging her back.
Eliza hugs Kara and then Lena. I can see Lena melt into her hug like she does with Kara. She must really love Eliza. I can see why. She's the polar opposite of Lillian.
We head into her huge home and I look out the window and can see the beach. They were right, it's so much quieter here and so beautiful. Kara leads me up the stairs with all our stuff while Lena stays with Eliza and helps with dinner.
"This here little lady, is where Supergirl slept and spent a lot of her time. I shared this room with Alex, too. Which by the way, she and Kelly are joining us here tomorrow!" She says putting the stuff down.
"Your room is so cool, Kara!" I say looking around at all the stuff on her side and then to Alex's side.
"Well you can sleep in here if you want!"
"I'd like that." I say taking some of my stuff out.
We head back down the stairs and see Eliza setting the table and Lena washing her hands.
"Perfect timing, you two. Dinner's ready!" Eliza says smiling and leading me to my seat.
Eliza made really good roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, asparagus and a fruit salad. It was so much food but I was excited to try it all, even if I could only have a few bites of everything before feeling full.
"Thank you so much, Eliza. Everything was so good! I wish I didn't get full fast or I'd be eating as much as Kara is." I say giggling while Kara makes a face and tickles me.
"I'm glad you like it! It was Alex's favorite meal growing up." Eliza says while clearing the table.
"Oh let me, Eliza. It's only fair since you cooked!" I say standing up.
"Well aren't you just the sweetest. Thank you!" She replies kissing my head. I see Lena smile in adoration at my words.
Kara decides to help and wash the dishes as I dry them. Lena and Eliza are having some wine on the couch, chatting.
When we finish, we join them on the couch.
"So Lennox, how have you been liking living with Lena?" Eliza asks including me in the conversation. It's weird to have adults actually have a conversation with me in the room, let alone actually talk to me.
"Oh I've loved it! Lena has been so kind and has given me so much." I say shyly.
"Well it sure is easy to love you, Len. I love having you back in my life." Lena says pulling me into her from behind, placing a kiss on my head and resting her hands on my front. I think we both love physical touch which is amazing. Kara loves it too.
"Eliza, Lena and I actually have something to tell you." Kara says to Eliza.
"You two are finally together. I know. Alex called yesterday and told me. I am so happy this is finally happening! Took you two long enough!" Eliza says chuckling and Kara's face is red as well as Lena's.
"Oh great, so I guess Alex and Kelly know. I'm gonna talk to Alex when they get here." Kara says with embarrassment laced in her voice, while Eliza and I are laughing.
"Kara, don't be embarrassed. I'm glad you two are together! You both make me happy because you make each other happy!" I say getting off the couch to hug Kara. She smiles and takes me into her arms tightly. Then all of a sudden, she lifts me up in the air and puts me back on the couch and starts tickling me to the point where I can't breathe.
"KARA.....STOP!" I say laughing out of breath.
"I can't! You're just too sweet and cute and I love hearing your laugh!" She says basically on top of me, now smothering me with kisses.
"Haha, I love you Kara." I say hugging her for real.
"I love you too, little one." She says kissing the side of my head.
"Hey hey I want in on this!" Lena says and takes me into her arms while Kara hugs us both.
I can see Eliza with some tears in her eyes.
"Eliza, are you okay?" I ask making sure we didn't do something wrong.
"Oh yes, honey I am more than okay. I've never seen these two so happy. And I have you to thank. My mom heart is full." She says joining our hug.
"Hey why don't we take Lennox down to the ice cream shop by the beach?" Eliza suggests.
"Oh yeah! Len they have the best strawberry cheesecake ice cream." Kara says.
"Okay, that sounds good!" I say getting up to use the bathroom before we go.
We all put our coats and shoes on and start walking. I'm hand in hand with Lena while Kara and Eliza are in front of us, catching up about things they've been up to.
"Len, I just want to say how proud I am of you. You are so kind and thoughtful. You always manage to put a smile on everyone's faces you're around. I love that about you. I know it can be scary to try new things and go new places, but you are making strides and I am so happy to be able to witness it." She says wrapping her arm around my shoulder, kissing the top of my head.
"You make it so easy to be around people, Lena. I don't think I could do it without you there to help. You are what grounds me and lets me know I am safe. I still have a lot to unlearn from Lillian and Joe, but I'm lucky to have you and Kara to help me with it. Thanks for being so patient with me." I say looking up at her, smiling.
"Of course, my love. You deserve all the time to heal and recover from what you went through. Never think that you are an inconvenience or bothering us when you need help with anything, okay?" She kisses my forehead. "I love you, Lennox. You are my world."
"I love you too, Lena."
The store is so cute and beach themed. It's not too crowded which I'm thankful for. I've only had ice cream a couple of times and I can't even remember what it's like. Kara and Lena helped me choose which ones to sample. They were all so good I couldn't choose. Until I tried the strawberry cheesecake one that Kara first recommended. It was so good. I got a scoop on a cake cone and we went onto the sand to watch the sunset over the water. It was the most beautiful sight I think I've ever laid eyes on. I was in between Lena and Kara, leaning on Kara's shoulder. Being with them is my favorite thing ever. I am so happy to have a family who loves me and cares for me. Eliza is amazing and I really love her too. Nothing can ruin this moment.
It starts to get cold and we decide to head back. I am on Kara's back because she insisted on carrying me back to the house. When we get inside, the house is at a perfect warm temperature. I take my shoes off and head upstairs to take a shower and brush my teeth before I head to bed. I come back down the stairs where all 3 women are chatting with some wine.
"I'm gonna to go to bed. I love you guys. Thanks for the best day ever!" I say hugging Kara and Lena as they kiss my head.
When I hug Eliza, I whisper so only she can hear, "I love you, grandma. Thanks for everything." I feel her sob quietly and hug me tighter.
I head up into Kara and Alex's room and immediately fall asleep as my head hits the pillow.
