↦ pairing: yandere!hoshi x reader
↦ warning: high schoolers making out, hoshi looks at reader in a sexual way at some point, sensual.
↦ note: delusional obsessive boy hoshi sounds just about right!
↦ word count: 1k (damn wtf)
Tumblr media
Hoshi's gaze had been fixated on you from the very beginning of senior year in high school. And he loved jotting down little details about you.
Her school skirt is always slightly shorter than the norm, leading to occasional scoldings from teachers.
Her hair reaches a little lower than her shoulders. (It’s been 3 years and she maintains the same length)
She always arrives at school at 7:30/7:40 A.M.
She always takes breakfast in class before the first class of the day. (It’s always sandwiches and strawberry milk)
Applies her strawberry flavoured lip gloss at least 4 times a day in school. (One, after breakfast, two, a few minutes before lunch break, three, after lunch break, four, before school ends.)
Has a bunch of strawberry flavoured candies in her school bag.
Loves strawberries. (cute.)
She doesn’t like participating in P.E. or any sports event.
She always sleeps during history class, stays in class during P.E and is always attentive during English class.
She likes to watch anime at the back of the class with her friends when a teacher is absent. (She seems to like Gintama recently)
She smiled at me today. (That must mean she loves me?)
And he seems to be persistent on the 11th detail. Both of you are in the same class, which means it’s not impossible to avoid each other and small interactions do happen here and there.
But though he hasn’t asked you directly about it, he seems to believe that you too are in love with him.
Delusional, people would call him. But he knows the truth. He knows you better than anyone.
~~~
In the midst of P.E class, Hoshi found himself unable to focus and quickly excused himself, making a beeline for the empty classroom. His face flushed with embarrassment, his cheeks burning like a raging fire. The sound of his own heartbeat echoed in his ears, pounding loudly as if it were a drum. The cause of his distress? You. The teacher had coerced you into participating in P.E today, despite your previous disinterest in the class for the past year or two.
“It’ll be boys vs girls today and it’ll only tally when you participate so make sure to come.” The teacher told you.
But the clothes you had were only from your first year, and they hugged your chest so snugly, highlighting your figure in a way that Hoshi had never expected. He had seen you in your short school skirt before, which was more revealing than P.E. clothes, but this was different. It ignited a whirlwind of thoughts in his mind.
Perhaps he enjoyed the allure of someone exuding sexiness even when fully dressed? No, that wasn't it. He loved it because it was you.
With a slight shake of his head, hoping to dispel the thoughts of you, he couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. "Maybe if I write it all down," he mumbled to himself, retrieving his notebook filled with every intricate detail about you and he began to hastily jot down his thoughts.
33. She only has one P.E clothes, which was from two years ago. She had no choice but to wear it today and her che-
As the classroom door slid open, he swiftly concealed the book beneath his desk, trying to appear nonchalant. His gaze fixated on the entrance, his heart skipped a beat when he saw you walk in. A smile accompanied by a gentle nod greeted him, as you settled into the seat directly in front of him.
Usually, he’s happy to be in the same room as you but right now, no. Especially not when you’re still in your P.E clothes.
“Since you left, the boys were outnumbered by one person so I volunteered to sit out too.”
Huh? You’re talking to him? Him?
“Oh, I- I see.” That's all he managed to say, desperately avoiding looking anywhere below your face. An awkward silence fills between the two of you.
"Hey, are you okay?" You inquire, noticing his heavy breathing and his gaze that was fixed on particularly nothing behind you. "Hoshi?" Your voice pronounces his name, and suddenly he becomes acutely aware of the tightness in his pants.
It's the first time you've ever called him by his name. Of course, you were aware of his name, but you had never uttered it aloud before, as there was never a need to call out to him. Hoshi had often daydreamed about the melody of his name rolling off your tongue, but nothing could match the authenticity of hearing it firsthand.
“Are you sick?” You ask him in a worried tone. As you rise from your seat, your hand instinctively reaches out to check his temperature. The gentle touch of your hand against his forehead seems to ignite a feverish heat on his face. "Y/N," he murmurs your name, his grip tightening around your wrist.
Before you can comprehend his actions, he swiftly manoeuvres you, positioning you against his desk. His free arm encircles your waist, drawing you closer to him. Your chest brushing against his increases his already heightened state.
"Y/N," he whispers your name once more, his lips finding yours in a long-awaited kiss. Finally, he experiences the sensation of kissing the lips he had always yearned for. The taste of strawberries lingers on your lips, a delightful result of the lip gloss you adored.
Tongue. Her tongue.
That's all his mind could comprehend, but your lips remained tightly sealed, denying him the one thing he craved in this moment. Hoshi withdraws his hand from your waist, only to slide it beneath your shirt, his icy touch against your flesh causing you to gasp within the embrace. Seizing the opportunity, he thrusts his tongue into your awaiting mouth.
The kiss is messy with a blend of possessiveness and urgency, yet there also lingers a subtle desperation.
His hand continues its upward glide along your exposed skin, encircling your body with a possessive grip that sends shivers down your spine. The hand that once held your wrist is now entwined in your hair. "So soft... Just as I had imagined," he muses to himself.
His plump lips finally part from yours, granting you the sweet release of breath that you had been holding captive.
“Wha– What is wrong with you.?!” He grimaces at your voice, yet still refuses to release you from his arms. He wants to keep holding you like this, to keep you close. “I’m sorry, I–” Hoshi begins to speak, but his words trail off as he catches sight of the expression on your face.
There were many emotions displayed on your face but ‘anger’ wasn’t one of them. Instead, you appear flustered and embarrassed, your cheeks flushed with a rosy hue. "Are you... blushing?" he questions, his hand instinctively reaching out to caress your cheek, only to be swiftly pushed away.
You rush out of the classroom and at the same time, the other students walk into the class. "Y/N," he murmurs your name, his fingertips grazing his lips as he reminisces about the kiss and the emotions that played across your face mere moments ago.
"She definitely likes me."
Why everybody gets 100 Girlfriends wrong
I've been seeing quite a few comments that completely misinterpret The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, so I'm gonna break down to you the series a bit, trying to not spoil it for anime onlies. This is mainly in response to someone wondering why they don't just "speedrun girlfriends".
100 Girlfriends, first and foremost, is not a romance manga. It's a comedy manga with focus on romance, yes, but first and foremost, it's a parody manga. It's parody in the same sense that Gintama is a parody. Yes, it's an affectionate parody, but a parody nonetheless.
It already starts with the premise that the main character has 100 girlfriends. The focus actually isn't the 100 girlfriends, it has always been the girlfriend archetypes. The pervert, the tsundere, the non-communicative one, the kuudere. They deconstruct, then reconstruct each and every single one. This is why it also does not speedrun the girlfriends, because it shouldn't.
In fact, the first seven chapters (up to episode 5) do show this already, it has a slight pacing problem. Not because it takes too much time to get to each girlfriend, but because it doesn't take its time to give us the deconstruction and reconstruction phases. It is only from the next two chapters (or episode 6) on that it basically uses each girl's traits and shows us creative ways they work with them.
But they had to speedrun at least the first four girlfriends to give us an idea of what the premise is. Rentarou is an impossible protagonist who actually manages to make a polyamorous relationship work. I'll get back to that later, but keep this in mind. It needs to establish the actual rules.
We know the visible rules, that if Rentarou rejects a girlfriend, she'll die. However, chapter 3, and by extension episode 3, establishes directly that Rentarou doesn't just make these girlfriends his because they'd otherwise die, he actually genuinely starts caring for them, and wants to love them, while at the same time he wants them to care for him.
This is one of the manga rules people miss, because, forget the rejection means death rule. That rule hasn't been important since episode 3 anymore, and hasn't even been brought up that much in episode 5, and that's the initial mistake many manga readers made when getting to chapter 7. However, from chapter 8 on (the next episode), something magical happened. We finally figured out that this manga has never actually been about playing the romance part straight. It was always a comedy first and foremost.
You see, the fourth wall breaks, the absurd situations, the literal physical abuse Rentarou gets (from Karane of all people). Heck, even the anime opening. Especially the first point, the fourth wall breaks, those should tell you that the manga never really takes itself too seriously. Yes, it does take the romance parts seriously, but that's because if you don't do that, it doesn't work as a parody.
Take Gintama. It's a parody of shounen manga (and by extension anime). However, it is also a shounen manga in and of itself, that part it still plays straight. If it was just riffing on shounen manga, do you think it would have been as successful as it has been right now?
Or take the many films by Mel Brooks, and one in particular, Spaceballs. Spaceballs is a parody of science fiction films, but Star Wars in particular. However, it still is a science fiction film in and of itself, it still takes that part serious enough to make the parody work.
Compare that to the later Scary Movie films or those other movie parodies. They didn't work because it became pop culture reference, the movie, instead of being a parody of the genre while still playing that genre straight enough to make it work. They fundamentally forgot how parodies work, which is why the parody film died.
So let's go back to my comment about Rentarou being the impossible boyfriend. Many manga readers joke about Rentarou being the chad, or Chadtarou. However, by now we've realized one thing about him. He's literally an unrealistic standard when it comes to boyfriends.
There's a reason the meme "Chapter 1: I want to become Rentarou, Chapter X: I want to be Rentarou's." We realize that we literally cannot be Rentarou, nor would we even want to be Rentarou, because, face it, his job sucks. He has to take care of, what, four girlfriends at this point, which already seems like an impossible task in real life, but Rentarou goes above and beyond to make sure each girlfriend is equally loved. Not proportionally, no, equally. And with each new girlfriend, he doesn't divide the love he has between his current girlfriends and his newest girlfriend, no, he adds on top of it. It's like, at the start, Rentarou's love capacity is 100%, but then he gets two soulmates. Does he just divide his love in two, 50% for Hakari, 50% for Karane? No, he gives 100% to Hakari and 100% to Karane.
At this point, we'd just rather be Rentarou's **girlfriend**, because at least we **know** we can and will be loved by him 100%. Rentarou deliberately sets an impossible standard for the harem protagonist, because it's a standard that should never be reached by any living being. Rentarou in and of himself is the ultimate parody of a harem protagonist, and the reason for that is so that the manga and anime can safely parody every single romance trope that exists.
So, to break down the five episodes for you, to explain why it's paced like this:
Ep. 1: It explains the premise of the story, and how it's going to subvert your expectations.
Ep. 2: It shows an explanation of such subversions.
Ep. 3: It shows you the more serious side of this anime.
Ep. 4: It subverts the harem narrative.
Ep. 5: Basically the same as episode 3, combined with trying to deconstruct and reconstruct the archetype of the week.
And you will notice that with each new girlfriend, it will do the deconstruction and reconstruction in one episode. It needs to explain an archetype, show how it would actually work in reality, and turn it around and make it actually work in the bigger picture. Then, in the following episode, it will... well, you will have to find out soon I guess. But there is a pattern.
To sum it up:
1. This anime isn't a harem romcom. It's a parody of romance manga.
2. Each girlfriend represents an archetype that gets deconstructed and reconstructed.
3. Likewise, without going too much into spoiler territory, any situation is a parody of an existing romance trope.
4. Rentarou isn't your typical harem protagonist, because he isn't meant to be one, he's meant to be a parody of one.
5. The reason it doesn't speedrun girlfriends is to give each girlfriend enough time to parody.
Oh, yeah, here's a second post about Gintama's Live-action adaptations. I'm a total completionist so I not only watched the second movie, I had to find the Mitsuba arc and then @sebfreak pointed me to the other miniseries, so... (sorry if it's a long post, while I'm not drawing my brain can't stop)
Right, the Mitsuba arc
Loved they include the spicy parfait scene, I mean, the cgi is what it is, but I have a lot of respect for 'em even trying,
Zaki's afro? chef's kiss, simply delicious
I mean:
Tumblr media
Also, Hijikata's reacion to the spicy snacks? delicious. These guys are good at funny faces.
Loved the Gin's pretending to be sleeping scene, missed the part about the black circles under his eyes, tho.
Tumblr media
(Look, it was very difficult to find the three parts of the drama, I got 'em from 3 different places and every place has it's own subtitles on indonesian or french. Also, the quality? oh my, the quality was terrible by the third part)
This is a fucking sad arc, daaaamn, and this being a drama... well, it's even more dramatic. I mean, that last scene on the roof? it always breaks my heart.
Tumblr media
And now, for something completely different, the mini-series thingy.
The episodes they choose to adapt are... interesting, I mean who in their right mind chooses those three? okay, I love how weird the decision is.
I love the details on the one were Kagura can't sleep, I mean, the Dragon Ball mangas, the justaway alarm clock, Gintoki's pajamas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Holy shit, the make up, the Napoleon thing, the radio drama, "I didn't get enough sleep, and I'm starting to hear strange things"; I love this episode.
And then, the one were Hijikata can't smoke, maaaan, this episode was like a fever dream in the anime and the live-action is so on point. The whole Namek planet thing, "I'm going to defeat Breeza!", "I'm trying to revive Grillin!", the cgi is not that bad, I mean, slimy grimmy Shen Long could've looked worst. Also, I insist, Hijikata's actor is so stupid good at expressions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And, finally, the dentist episode, another fever dream. I'm very afraid of the dentist so, yeah, can confirm that People of All Ages Hate the Dentist!. Also, again, their expressions!; Hasegawa!; the treatment! This episode may have worsen my fear of the dentist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the way this live-actions thingies keep the whole Gintama spirit, I love that the first scene on the Rules are Made to be Broken movie is the still shot from Yorozuya HQ and it's just these idiots talking over it. If I've watched this on the cinema I would've cheered like the stupid weeabo I am (I told a friend yesterday "I went from 0 to otaku in like 3 moths" so there).
Tumblr media
I'm so thankful for Zura's piracy thing disclaimer.
Otose!!! OMFG, I love her!
"Work! We have to find work, Gin-san!" "I don't want to!" MOOD FOREVER!
Tumblr media
I love how they all try very hard not to laugh in the scenes with this guy, they failed, but I love it.
We've already talked about Zura's gender but... come on! how fucking amazing they are??!
Oh, and the Katsurap and then Pako (I mean, they changed her name here, but I still like Pako more 'cause Ginko is a different character, come on!) carrying her on her back.
Tumblr media
"It's the Shogun!" aaah, you didn't fail me, Rules are Made to be Broken.
Tumblr media
And then the hairdresser thing. I can't stop thanking you, Rules are Made to be Broken.
I guess the whole chip on Toshi's neck is weird, but maybe the whole sword thing would've been longer to explain so probably it was best for simplicity.
On that note, "Sakatashi"
"You're a Neet. You're thinking like a total Neet!" "Is that so? You guys look like pretty big Neets too." "Who the hell is a Neet?! We are hard-working workers now!"
So, yeah, I can forgive the the chip thing ONLY for the scene at Gengai's shop. Toshi, pilot the EVA.
I can't believe how close to the original is the scene were Gintoki catches Toshi by his neck and they all run away from those Shinsengumi guys.
"You tax thieves" <3
Tumblr media
this look badass, I mean...
We have little Takasugi action in this one, but hell, I don't care, I love his scenes with Bansai. Also, Bansai, of course.
Now, this is were I feel this goes weird, Bansai's gonna try to kill the (freaking) Shogun in a total different location form the train thing. It's... weird. Tho, Bansai looks amazing on his motorcycle.
I've said this a thousand time already, but I don't care, Kagura's really Gintoki's clone, I bloody love her.
Now, I don't fell Gintoki has a real motivation to go a fight Bansai in Edo, it never convinced me. I grateful for the Raccoon Bus scene, tho, I laughed like a maniac (look, I know I need to sleep more), but... dunno "then Takasugi Shinsuke will start killing people!" wasn't enough for me. Oh, and Zura, I love that they use every excuse to use Zura but still... weird?
I really like to like the first part of Gintoki vs Bansai but... too matrix~y too... the choreography is kind of cool, the shots between fights too but the whole matrix thing... I didn't like it.
BUT! the strings thing, that I liked.
And then the last scene at the dango place, I liked it a lot, I love when they did that on the anime averytime.
Gintama AGF 2023 loot ✨✨
(I bought 3 boxes of can badges since I want to make sth similar to Ginko's ita-bag XD)
Tumblr media
I didn't buy the huge 見つめあうアクスタ bc
① Takasugi was sold out–I always buy GinTaka merch in pairs if possible xD
② expensive–it's 5.5k ea💀
③ no space😭
There were 3 types of illust card freebies but you can overlay them on top of each other to form 1 group illust..so cute~!!
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
(My only gripe is that they distributed these cards unprotected so now they have a lot of scratches😭)
It was my first time attending AGF so everything was new to me.. AGF venue was like a dungeon!! 😵‍💫😵‍💫😭😭 There were diff halls (on diff floors) for each booth
By the time I found the hall where Y-Line booth was... Some stuff were already sold out (X-ko stand and Takasugi huge stand)
And the numbered tix distribution already ended!! So I had to wait until they distributed tix again
Tumblr media
So I just went around the hall and checked out other booths xD
There were meet and greet mascots at the Tears of Themis booth 🤣 (ngl they looked strange hahaha)
Tumblr media
Then went to Megahouse's lookup figs booth (so happy that Gintama will have a lookup fig line too!!! 🥹🥹😭😭)
There was a huge Anya lookup fig 😱😱
Tumblr media
Haikyuu (notice how Kenma and Kuroo are the only ones inside acrylic cases 🤣)
Tumblr media
JJK.. with Panda inside the tent UwU
Tumblr media
Sailormoon
Tumblr media
Kimetsu no Yaiba
Tumblr media
There were others too (but can't fit them in this post due to limitations xD)
Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks....
Hi! Yes absolutely! I am so sorry it took so long. I haven't opened Tumblr in forever. I'm not sure if I can list down 2 characters from the same media platform once but just in case I'm not, I'll just list down one. This is based on the order I remember them by since I have really shit memory and there might've been a few fave characters I missed 🥲
I'll list down what comes to mind first haha
1. Yukine (Noragami)
-I love him SO MUCH. The first time I watched Noragami back in 2016, I knew I would love this boy with all my heart. Something about troubled and misunderstood anime kids with fucked up backstories just make me want to take care of them man. He's my adopted baby period. His character development is also very beautiful.
He's a very complex character. Idk why people shit on him for acting like a child when he is quite literally a child 😭 let him be a kid man, let him be immature, I was also immature at 14 and I'm happy for him bc he's got someone understanding by his side at all times.
I wish the ending would do justice to his character fr.
2. Kagura (Gintama)
She's funny asf. Also, strong asf. I love good female rep in anime and Kagura takes the cake for me. She has no filter, she's really cool, really funny, and just a fun and enjoyable character overall. (You should watch Gintama btw, it's my favorite anime).
3. Usopp (One Piece)
People shit on him a lot and I'm sick of it. I love him because he is SO REAL. He represents ordinary human beings in the One Piece world and I admire his bravery so much. His goal isn't even something grand, he just wants to be the bravest man who crossed the sea and I love that for him. He's a coward fr but seeing him break out of his shell and take courage to face his fears make me so emotional and proud. He inspires me to face my fears too :')
4. Izaya (Durarara!!)
He was lowkey the reason why I majored in Psychology. I love this cunning man. Watching everything go into flames bc of the shit he pulls excites me so much. I love watching him work. Totally not bc of his VA.
5. Newt (The Maze Runner Series)
Okay, this person was also real as shit. The way he's depicted in the books? Perfection. He's just so kind and caring and gentle to the gladers and to people they met during the scorch trials and ugh he deserved sm better :(
the way i have a whole 'nother blog dedicated to the maze runner series and it's always just abt him 💀 i was obsessed w him man. something abt broken/complex characters who are just so kind and tragic always have my heart.
6. Chuuya (Bungou Stray Dogs)
After I read stormbringer, I was never the same again. He is actually super sweet and super down to earth. I love him so much because he is so genuine with his intentions? Also, the shit has been through man... Yet, he still chose to live and fight. I admire that so much from him.
he is also a very complex and tragic character. i love him sm bc of that... i'm sensing a pattern here.
7. Armin (Attack on Titan)
His smartass made me fall in love with him. My boy just wanted to see the sea man. I admire his bravery so much and he gets shit ton of hate too for not kissing Eren's ass but I love him so much for standing his ground and having faith in his best friend. He was lowkey psycho too tbh. Smart men>>
8. Yuuta (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Okay, something about timid guys who are lowkey psychotic always get me going. He's a cool character and he's sexy. Period.
9. Killua (Hunter x Hunter)
ALSO MY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!! He deserves the world 😭 He went through so much at 12 bro and I just want to take care of him so much bc he deserves to be a kid!!!!! Big brother Killua also has my heart. He's so sweet and caring and kind and genuine and UGH I LOVE HIM.
the way he just wanted a friend 😭 i'd gladly be his friend man if i were in the hxh universe. he's too sweet 😔 and he deserves sm better!!!
10. Jo March (Little Women)
I SEE MYSELF IN HER SO MUCH. The way she just wanted everything to stay the same even when change was inevitable and the people in her life ended up growing up. I love how as I watched her grow up, the traits that she had as a kid were still there yet she was slowly opening to change. I just relate to her so much and we are so alike in so many ways.
---
That's it, I think! Those were the only characters I could think of. I am so sorry if I didn't word it correctly. I suck at writing and english isn't my first language but I hope you got a gist of why I love the characters 😭 Most of the times I don't really have a deep reason for liking a certain character, they just appeal to me and I get that gut feeling that oh I think I will obsess over this little shit for the rest of my life and it's usually always correct lmao. This was fun! Thank you!
I know you don’t put personal stuff on here but I miss you 😢 you had the best wholesome gintama blog so forgive the questions bc how you been & whatve you been up to? Plz 🙏
Thanks for the sentiment, anon! Unfortunately, I still won't say anything too personal on here, but I can give you some general life updates since you asked so nicely!
First and foremost, I'm a happy bean! The version of myself that started this blog wouldn't recognize the person I've become -- in a good way! I could never have guessed the success I'd see, the friends/family I'd make/be part of, or the life I'd live. That's what makes revisiting this blog every once in awhile so fun and nostalgic for me. Younger me really had no idea what was coming LOL
Next month I'm living out a dream of mine. I'll be in New Zealand the whole month going from the top of the North island to the bottom of the South island. Lord of the Rings has had a huge impact on me over the years so I've decided (along with certain people in my life) to go indulge in things like climbing Mount Ruapehu (Mount Doom), Mount Sunday (Edoras - capital city of Rohan), horseback riding along the coast, Hobbiton, Rotorua, Waitomo caves, Hooker Valley, whale watching, hiking -- the list goes on. I've always done a lot of traveling and have been to many places, but this trip will be very special and I'm counting down the days to departure! Though, I've got some fun things planned in the meantime such as guests next week and camping the week after. Always something to look forward to around here <3
Et voila, that's about as personal as I'm willing to get. Thank you for checking up on/thinking of me! You're always welcome to stop by and ask anything you'd like, just please have patience for a reply since my stops in here are infrequent at best. Stay safe, happy, and healthy, anon!
1, 3, 13, 14, 20 for the ask game!
Ohhh, thanks thanks, sorry I'm days late answering!
These are questions for the ask game!!! Which I'll still do answers for btw! I'm going to throw it under a read more bar because I am already off to a really long start for the first question, ^_^;)/
1. What led you to start writing fan fiction?
You see. I was an avid fanfic reader, back in the wee era of 2015 when I was in my early 20s, for a certain fandom that I shall not name. And I realized after reading hundreds and hundreds of fics for my favorite pairing that my preferred genre of fanfic (*coughs in major trigger warnings*) were all so.... so... Well. Every fic for that fandom was The Same. And I don't mean 'the same' in the way that enemies to lovers is always the same (where the enemies become lovers through some plot that forces them together) I mean that I can tell you plot point by plot point, scene by scene, argument by argument, exactly what happened in all of these fics because they were all the same. Every. Single. Time. There was no diversity in the plot. No creativity. It was the same scene setup, the same lines/same arguments, the same hurt/comfort every single fic. It was like a group of people who liked these topics all got together and brainstormed the Same Idea and then wrote the Same Idea a dozen times in the exact Same Way with very little deviation from the "hurt in an alley, rescued by their enemy, nursed back to health in the bedroom, and then they sleep together" plot and posted it on AO3. The first couple of times, it slapped. But then when the entire tag became Just That, or some variation of Just That because people branched out from "the alley" to "the almost alley" I sort of had enough.
I wanted to be a writer. I've always loved to write. So I thought "wow, what if I take this idea that wasn't bad the first time but it sucked the fourth fifth sixth and seventh time, and just make it crazier out of spite" and thus, I wrote the worst 140k first POV fanfic for my ship (and discovered that I enjoy almost setting this man on fire) and then I just? Never stopped writing because it was fun and low-pressure and I could read fic and go "I dont like that" and learn from other peoples mistakes, and then my own. This fic, however, is dead to me. Looking back, I'm glad I started somewhere and yes it was insane and wildly different than the others, but me @ me, first-person POV? are you insane?
And here I am, easily five million words later (not an exaggeration, I've written at least 5 mil since then because I wrote 3 mil 2019-now).
And now, I'm a Horror waiting to happen to your blorbos, ehehehehheeh.
3. What experiences/influences have shaped your writings the most?
The polite answer is: life experience of my chaotic luck that sounds fake. Listen. If you send me to the store for milk, there is no way for you to prepare for what kind of trouble I will get into, of no fault of mine.
The real answer: a life of misery. I get a lot of comments about how 'real' some of my fics feel, to an uncomfortable degree. Well. There's a reason for that :wheezesmiley:
I always recommend a few gintama fics starting with Pandemonium. This is like, a staple Gintama fic to read and it's gen! I really enjoyed this one even though I haven't reread it in a long time and I only remember the ending which was probably my favorite part. (I should do a reread) but I remember I liked the characterization and it sort of touched on all of my favorite things about Gintoki being unhinged, and how he could end up there down at the bottom ready to throw it all away. It was a real aspiration of mine to keep to the characterizations and to always drag out Gintoki's little horrors until the juicy last moment, and this fic is the reason for all of that.
13. What are some must-read fanfics in your fandoms? Why do you admire these, and how have they impacted your works?
Otherwise, I just have a few self-indulgent angst fics I like to reread. But for inspiration, I will admit that my timeloop fic, which i wrote obsessively like a madman and those of you who were dming me know I was ripping out my hair because you need an excel sheet for this level of insanity, was inspired by the other timeloop fic, because while I enjoyed that timeloop fic, I was severely disappointed that Gintoki never mentioned the timeloop to Hijikata, and more importantly, Gintoki never mentioned the fact that he witnessed Hijikata's death dozens of times and it has negatively impacted him to a severe degree. And then I was more annoyed that this is completely in character, so I decided to force Gintoki's hand on my own by making him the victim of the timeloop. (and then I accidentally killed Sakamoto, and the rest is history, ngl idk wtf happened I just sat down and wrote 40k one day and went "oh, ok, this is gonna be a long one")
I would also like to go out of my way to recommend a Witcher fic. I don't go here anymore and I likely will never go here again, but this fic had me hooked for two solid days. I did nothing but read this fic for two solid days. (I skipped the smut because I was more invested in the plot than the relationship LMFAO) I was so convinced that the plot had somethign to do with werewolves (or some other kind of shapeshifting/vampiric/demonic monster) that I actually binge wrote a 70k fic in one week because of this LMFAO
14. What aspects of your creative process do you enjoy most? Which are most challenging?
THEREFORE, the most challenging thing is me sitting down and going "okay this needs to not be vibes, it needs to have very specific crafted elements and also be creative while also being clever and meaningful and metaphorical and deep" and then I just don't write for three months (me rn, trying to force myself to write one (1) hyper specific thing I could care less about)
I just sit down and the brain and hands go 'brrrr' there is no creative process there is only me leaving my body and coming back like "noice". This is my favorite part. Or the part where someone goes "wouldn't it be wild if" and then goes to sleep and then suddenly they wake up to a 10k fic link in their inbox because they left me unattended with their left-field idea.
20. What’s your favorite work you’ve ever written?
Oh god. Ok. I can't pick one so I'm going to rec some of my favorites and explain why they're my faves.
I feel like Don't You Know That Timeloops Suck? (gintama, no warnings) has to be my most recent favorite because I was on an entire other level of insanity for this one and it was unfortunately very personal and looking back its a lot of things to me. lololol BUT the ending is... listen. Guys. I didn't want to finish it because I hated it at one point. It's rough. The second Sakamoto enters the timeloop everything went to shit on my end because I just didn't want anything to do this fic anymore, I was sick of writing it, I was sick of Hijikata, I was sick of Gintoki being too much like me. It's not my cleanest work, that's for sure and rereading it, I can see it clear as day and it drives me insane tbh. If I could rewrite any fics end/write more for a fic, it would be this one and I would be screaming the entire way.
But. This JJK fic, In the Vastness of the Cosmos, We Are But Nothing was a lot of fun to write. Like. A lot of fun. And I mean, I would love to write another one like this, but I need some delirious combination of cosmic horror and colours and higher level of clarity. It's not my strongest work technically and easily could have been double, triple the length to really drive the finer points home, but it is what it is and it's great considering I wrote the whole entire thing in one sitting and then just posted it without even an edit.
I have another fic like this for danny phantom, but I haven't re-uploaded it yet because I lost it in the deletion. (It's somewhere, I'm sure)
BUT. Fill the Void, Lest the Void Fill You (Trigun, content warnings beware) is my favorite, most solid ending. Like this fic? Is probably my favorite in terms of technical writing. It's solid the whole way through. I had actually discussed with a friend where my writing was lacking, and determined that my endings need some work (because I usually end things when I'm sick of writing them and it shows) but this fic? Solid. 10/10.
Okay I'll stop rambling, thanks for the ask! I love talking about my own fics lololo
Also. That “If Utsuro’s ‘Totally Not Meteor From Final Fantasy VII’ Attack Had Ended The World In Episode 361 But then Gintoki Tried To Go Back In Time And Save Everyone” AU deserves more love.
Hey! 3, 4 and 14 + takasugi for the self ship meta ask meme ?
Tumblr media
[ Meta Self Ship Asks ]
3. describe the first time you watched/played/read your f/o’s source content.
Long story short, it was a mix between laughs, wondering what everyone in Kabukicho was on, and concern (at first. Then post Benizakura-arc, I learned that things will only be even more unhinged.) I've since embraced the nonsensical nature of Gintama.
And I love it. xD
4. who was your first favorite character when you initially got into your f/o’s source content? was it your f/o from the very beginning?
Tumblr media
Gintoki because I lowkey relate to him on a personal level. He and 'Sugi currently share the spot for my top favorite character!
(Real talk though, Gin's such a goated protagonist ;-; )
14. what’s your favorite outfit your f/o has ever worn?
Tumblr media
I've always liked the kimono 'Sugi's always wearing (bonus if the haori's there too), but I like the outfit he has in the Ginpachi sensei bits.
That reminds me, I should do a Ginpachi-sensei version of my 'sona.
(Also Matako, stop looking at 'Sugi. >:T)
tagged by @recentadultburnout. What are my fave top 9 shows in no particular order. I finally have time to do this since I'm finally not homeless.
1. Gintama!!!
Whenever I'm feeling down I just watch this show. It does it's comedy really well. My favorite arcs are the lottery win arc and the reunion/kuroko no basuke parody mini-arc.
2. Doraemon
. . . Don't judge me! It's the first comic book collection I owned since it's relatively cheap. I still remember sobbing to the volume 6 ending when I was in 4rth grade. I thought it was the angstiest shit. Also my introduction to Japanese folktales.
3. Bad Buddy
Recent addition. Just something about the family dynamics that makes me writhe in an unpleasant personal way. 11/10 would torture myself thinking of Pran's family dynamics.
4 and 5. Julie and the Phantoms/My School President
This list makes makes me look 12 doesn't it? Ah who cares! I love a good musical. Especially a classic highschool teen as a protaganist. Musically, I like My School President's OST better but I really really love Julie. (Also both of these won't get a season 2).
6. Bocchi the Rock
A recent addition! . . . And another high school musical. I love fluff, friendships, interpersonal, and internal conflicts. My love for musicals like fulfills my need for real life friends who are attentive to your needs and wants and is there when you need them.
7. Oh No! Here Comes Trouble!
Anyone remember the time when Taiwanese dramas were all the rage back in early to late 2000's in Asia? Taiwan came in clutch and showed us how great they are at acting, writing, and nuance. Sobbed myself to the point of dehydration during the John Doe arc. I really like dramas with a slice of life-ish feel to it.
8. Avatar: The Last Airbender
I spend too much of my idle time arguing the pros and cons of different elements as if I can actually become a bender. So far I settled on earth as my element. It's just so fun. I hope there's an atla interest revival every 5 years.
9. Good Omens
One of my forever fandoms. I have a copy of the book that looks like shit but that's only because it is so loved. Everytime I crack it open, intending to only read the first few pages I end up nearly halfway to rereading it. And the tv live adaptation was so good. It's like Aziraphale and Crowley walked off the fandom's collective imagination and into the screen. I hope we get season 3 and I hope it's smooth sailing. I always wanted to write something for this fandom but watching the television made me realize British English is a whole 'nother beast and I'd rather not make a fool of myself.
UtsuObo but Oboro is the submissive bottom
He is.
Oboro is the most submissive, pliant, and servile bottom in the entire fucking galaxy… wait no, in the entire humanity race.
Oboro is the most submissive bottom of them all and why he would definitely let Utsuro/Shoyou (or literally any personality that the immortal have) fucked him senseless infront of naraku, tendonshou and even with Shoyou’s pupil. Also, I want to point out that Utsuro probably feels something for him too.
And here’s the reason why:
1. Oboro would do anything for the immortal’s sake.
- In the Gintama wiki, it was mentioned that Oboro was a child slave.
Tumblr media
I don’t know if he was sold, a bastard, or was an orphan, but Oboro literally grew up without anyone giving a rat’s ass about him. He knew at a young age that he was just an “unworthy” insect— unwanted and unloved.
He have no purpose in life, until Utsuro came along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Utsuro was the first (and probably the only being) who ever gave Oboro something (his blood to save his life) and for Oboro, who grew up feeling unwanted and unneeded, it was a huge fucking thing! People who are devoid of warmth would always lap up the first one who’ll give them some attention and a small affection. Utsuro giving Oboro his blood literally changed his whole fucking life. Finally, Oboro was given a “purpose” and that he feels needed and wanted.
From a young age, Oboro sealed his fate to always serve the immortal, his “savior.”
2. Oboro was the only person who truly accepted Utsuro for who he is.
- In all of Utsuro’s existence, Oboro is singular enigma that didn’t fear him, resent him, or envy him like what the humanity did.
Oboro truly accepted the immortal for who he is. He will served him whoever he is. Oboro believed in him, supported him, and will do anything for his sake.
Utsuro sees in Oboro’s eyes are eternal loyalty and serenity. And Utsuro won’t never ever met another one as special as Oboro, not even with Gintoki (what he sees with Gintoki is different from what he sees from Oboro. And I can go in depth about it later.)
Oboro didn’t changed Utsuro, Utsuro changed for him.
Shoyou was born because Oboro believed that a Shinigami like him can dropped down their swords and built a school. Oboro believed that an immortal assassin who never knew anything but inflict pain on others can teach young children to be anything but killers.
So when Oboro died, Shoyou was really fucking affected. It feels like he lost the only one who truly understand him for what he is.
3. Oboro is the only human that Utsuro, the one who hates humanity, likes.
- ughh, I can’t even begin to explain how much I find their whole dynamic sooo fucking amazing! (I’m too lazy to include a lot of pics but I hope this can make due.)
Utsuro hates humans except for Oboro. He trust Oboro for everything. Utsuro is confident in Oboro’s abilities, loyalty and capability to fulfill whatever assignment or mission it is that he gave him.
And best believed that Oboro will never ever disappoint Utsuro.
(Have you all seen the way Utsuro looked when Oboro’s coughing up blood? He looked sooo fucking empty and almost… helpless… in a way that he’s watching a part of him burned but he can’t distinguish the flames so his only solution is to destroy the world and let the fires (the altana) burned him alive too so he could be with his missing piece.)
In conclusion, Utsuro/Shoyou is the only purpose Oboro have in life. He will do everything and anything for the immortal’s sake. If Utsuro asked Oboro to strip, knelt down and suck his cock, Oboro would do it without any questions. Hell, Oboro won’t even care if he cums or not as long as Utsuro have his pleasure.
ANON, thank you so much for this wonderful asked! I’m sorry if it looked so rush and incomprehensible, I’m a little drunk today, I promise I will edit this one out later to make it at least readable! I will also include some pictures too! Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been sooo busy lately 😭💔
Happy holidays, y’all!
Ps: anon, if you’re comfortable with it, privately DM me and I can send you a short draft of my Bottom!Secretary Oboro x Top!Tyrant king Utsuro fic that I’ve been working on as an apology for replying late in your asked 😉😘 consider this your Christmas present too!
Shipper Tag Game
Thank you @godotismissingx for the tag! ❤️❤️❤️
Sorry that it took so much time 😅
Okay let's go!
1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore?
There were some k-pop ships I used to ship but as time went by I just stopped. Maybe because I’m not as much into k-pop as I used to be.
I also don’t ship any of Hetalia’s characters anymore.
2. Which ship would you consider your first one?
Stella and Brandon from Winx Club or Kevin and Gewn from Ben 10: Alien Force. That was even before I was aware of what shipping was.
While I was aware, I think it was Shizaya? Durarara was one of the first animes I watched. And Heiwajima Shizuo and Orihara Izaya's love-hate relationship was so good for a 12-year-old me.
Or it could be SasuNaru…
3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?
Written it was Merciless.
But read? That was so long time ago...
I remember I found some Ben 10 stories on the Internet and I read a lot of them as a kid.
But when I read and I was aware I was reading fanfics it was most likely SasuNaru or Darry. It was most likely still on Wattpad or fanfiction.net. On or those self-publishing blogs. Those were popular back then.
4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over?
Probably SasuNaru. Or another ship that was popular at the beginning of the 2010s.
5. Did you ever get into ship discourse?
I try not to. I mostly believe that fiction is fiction and when I don't like something I just don't read it.
I like to read people's points of view though.
6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently?
Not really. I used to hate UkFrance from Hetalia but now I just don't care. And I never really shipped Destiel. But I'm not sure I would call them a no-otp.
7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?
A new chapter of Merciless fic that I'm always waiting for was published. It's called Hidsight by duty_free. AND IT'S AWESOME, GO READ IT. It's a wonderful continuation to The Merciless that can actually fix those two morons (I have hope, it's still ongoing)
Before it, my friend @frayed-at-the-seams published her fic about Junho and Hoyeol from D.P. It's called Dogs and Cats. It's an interesting supernatural spin on the original story and it allows Junho and Hoyeol to be cute ❤️
8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?
Of course. My absolute favorite obsession is Han Jaeho x Jo Hyunsoo from The Merciless
But there is more:
Roronora Zoro x Sanji (Zosan) from One Piece
Sakata Gintoki x Hijikata Toshirou (GinHiji) from Gintama
Shizuo Heiwajima x Orihara Izaya (Shizaya) from Durarara!!
Oga Tatsumi x Furuichi Takayuki (OgaFuru) from Beelzebub
Lee Dongsik x Han Juwon from Beyond Evil
Kang Yohan x Kim Gaon (GaHan) from Devil Judge
An Junho x Han Hoyeol from D.P.
Miyuki Kazuya x Sawamura Eijun (MiyuSawa) from Ace of Diamond
James T. Kirk x Spock from Star Trek
Merlin x Arthur Pendragon from BBC Merlin
James Bond x Q (00Q) from James Bond movies
Harry Hart x Gary "Eggsy" Unwin from Kingsman movies
Tony Stark aka Iron Man x Steve Rogers aka Captain America from Marvel Comics (comics only.)
Peter Parker aka Spiderman and Wade Wilson aka Deadpool from the Marvel Comics
Loid Forger x Yor Forger from SPY X FAMILY
Hino Eiji x Akhn (EiAn) from Kamen Rider OOO
Shijima Go x Chase from Kamen Rider Drive
Kiryu Sento x Banjo Ryuga from Kamen Rider Build
and many many more
Also as an exception to my k-pop rule, I still ship ChanBaek from EXO.
9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?
Robin and Barney from How I Met Your Mother. I get that it was planned from the beginning for Ted to end up with Robin but did they have to make Robin and Barney so good???
Also, Merthur, like they had a whole story about them? All 5 seasons?
And Sterek.
10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?
Zeke x Levi from Shingeki no Kyojin. I used to not be much into it but there is an amazing reincarnation comic AU on twitter (here) with them and I have to say that they have a potential.
11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be canceled over?
Not sure... There were some ships that I wasn't aware of age. I don't mind ships with big age differences but I like for both parties to be over 18.
So maybe as an example Levi x Eren? Eren was 15 and now looking back I'm not sure if I would ship it.
12. What was your favorite crack ship?
Tried to think of something but my head is empty. I don't believe I don't have any crack ships!
13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of?
Shizaya, GinHiji or ChanBaek. They have big fandoms so I could just move from one fic to another.
Also YoonMin. I used to ship them a lot but now not really but I read a lot of fics with them.
14. What most of your ships usually have in common?
They usually banter or tease each other. Those love-hate relationships are my favorites. And more of them lately have an age difference.
15. What you absolutely hate in a ship?
Lack of chemistry? I hate too much drama but also don't like where everything is fine. And cheating.
I think it's a very unpopular opinion but I don't understand the hype that Gingama the Final got. Sure! The humor is funny as always, the animation is great and the music is just as great as you'd expect from Does and Spyair, but the plot kinda falls flat to me. Obviously it's not a movie only problem, and it's even worse in the manga, but it's like they set aside everything that made Gintama great so far and turned it into a more generic shounen anime.
Gintoki and the yorozuya are such great characters because they are not the usual main characters group with the "destined" main character, the helpless love interest and the rival, but in the last movie they completely discarded Kagura and Shinpachi to only have Shinsuke and have that last fight (it was sad as hell and good but still not quite what I expected from Gintama and not in a good way) with him without showing the kids. At all. They are walking Yoshida around? And we had a relatively large among of screentime for Tae who didn't do much, except acting like a textbook love interest (Tae?? Of all people?? Anyways). While we had so many interesting ways to fit the kids into this. Utsuru even mentioned Gin's life being "void", the obvious parallel between the school and the Odd Jobs, even just the fact that they were right there and there was no stretch to do to take Shinpachi and Kagura to the fight, while having a wall collapsing on the kids & Tae and Gin just moving on felt...weird, at best. To his credit, in the manga they yell back that they're okay iirc, but in the movie Gintoki just watches back once and that's it.
Also Gin, since the previous part of the arc/semi-finals had this massive guilt complex about resurrecting Yoshida because he knew he was betraying everyone! He didn't show his face to Shinpachi on the bridge, despite knowing that he had put his life on hold waiting for Gintoki to be back, he took all that weird harassment from the girls while pretending to be Shinsuke, etc because he felt guilty about it, but knew he had to help his master. And the kids really really were waiting for him, especially Shinpachi and when they were reunited...it didn't really matter anymore. He doesn't apologise for trying to resurrect a person that he knows has little chances to be good, who tried to murder them more than once, who almost destroyed the world and even killed their dog. And he doesn't apologise for not telling them he was back. And at first it was okay because it was the kind of relationship they had, but after a while just seemed like Gintoki couldn't give a fuck about them, and it felt like such a one sided admiration from their side. Especially when Gintoki walked off to fight Shinsuke and left them doing what? Maybe dealing with a collapsed wall, if they weren't crushed.
And of course the worst treatment was given to Zura like usual. The man who, all the way back to the beginning (literally before volume 5) said shit like "you cannot carry everything alone, I'll help you", who promised to kill Shinsuke in the Benizakura arc, in the same arc promised to stop Gin if he was to stray away from the right path (like you know resurrect they guy who almost destroyed Edo twice), that promised in the Farewell Shinsengumi Arc (If memory serves) that he would not let Gintoki kill Yoshida again, this man just fell down the stairs and the plot moved on. He was the only one of Yoshida students to not be involved in the last fight, and barely in the plot. He also made a point to say he was going to stop them from resurrecting Yoshida and then he just...disappeared.
But overall I am just disappointed that the characters I liked and watched Gintama for were completely forgotten. The Odd Jobs are the most blatant example, but the Shinsengumi had maybe 5 lines out of the 3 of them. Tsukuyo, Kyubei, Sarutobi etc were basically a mob. Zura was done extremely dirty. And all of this only to focus on Shinsuke and Utsuro who were marginal at best. Even Shinsuke, who was a big deal since the Benizakura arc, kind of blended into the Harusame and was not a more prominent villain than the pirates as a whole or Kamui (who appeared? Blink and you'll miss him).
And more especially, the main conflict of Gintama was the humans vs bad aliens. From Shinpachi's introduction, Gintoki's backstory (yes, Oboro and the Shogunate were the main focus, but were only just puppets), the whole premise of the show, up to being the reason Kisuke was a villain at all. And the rest of the cast even acknowledges this and makes a collective speech about rising up to the aliens when they head to the terminal. But then it was all Utsuro? Quite literally all Utsuro, since everyone who took his blood was a puppet acting on his will, and Utsuro was ultimately just human. And I think it could have been a could twist, had it not be for the fact that they had forgotten literally everything else about the show, so it was hard to believe this was a planned twist.
My disappointment is great with this movie, but at least I have the second movie and the Silver Soul arc to cheer me up.
Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks....
Hi! Thanks for the ask!
I always find these types of questions difficult to answer because I don't have a set list of characters ranked somewhere, especially if we're talking about all types of media, but I'm going to cheat a bit and look at my favorites from Mal. So, this will focus mostly on anime characters as that is the type of media I consume the most, with some others thrown in there as I remember. Not particularly in order:
1. ZURA. from Gintama
Tumblr media
He's also the one from my profile icon. I love this guy. He's a fucking idiot. And he is absolutely hilarious he never fails to crack me up no matter what mood I'm in. I have a lot of characters from Gintama I love, but I tried to stick to just one from the entire series or they would take up all ten spots here, and from the entire cast, I have to give it to Zura. He's a terrorist, and comes up with the stupidest of plans, like flipping the toilet paper of his sworn enemy, LOL. He can go on and on about a story while he's driving a car and doesn't realize he is crashing in the meantime. And hence why he can't get a license (and the only reason he needs a license in the first place is so that he can get an ID to be able to rent DVDs of outdated dramas he thinks are trending [they're not]). I have to give praise to Sorachi, the mangaka. He must have been on crack while writing Zura scenes xD
2. Griffith from Berserk
Tumblr media
Griffith. Beautiful Griffith.
Griffith gets a lot of hate and deservedly so, and there's a lot of Griffith apologists out there, but I love him. I fucking love him. He's such a well-written character. The best unreliable of narrators, though for most of the story we don't actually get into his head and only that of his archnemesis, his friend, the object of his dreams and desires, his ultimate source of failure, and success, later, I guess - Guts. So we only see how Guts sees him, and it's such a tragic story because the assumptions that Guts makes about him, the way he adores him and grows to hate him, they make sense, but to us as the viewers who know these two just loved each other so much to the point they threw away what they cared about the most - it's such a good story. I mourn for Miura and the story he never finished telling.
3. Joe from Ashita no Joe and Megalo box
Tumblr media
Yabuki Joe.
This poor boy. I mention both Ashita no Joe and Megalo box because Megalo box was an anniversary special project based off of Ashita no Joe. Not another adaptation precisely, but more of a modern cyberpunk approach to the classic with more mature themes. I love both versions of Joe. In the older classic, you have this orphan boy that is happy roaming around doing nothing with his life, until he meets this drunk man that shoves boxing down his throat. It's your typical sports plot of stacking up win after win, until it isn't. The difference is in the characters, and their suffering, their growth. You learn to love Joe. He's an annoying little brat that wins your heart gradually, and towards the end, when it's over, you feel as though you've lost a friend.
In Megalo box, Joe is a bit older, and is dealing with things that are very real and that the og Joe would have also had to deal with, had things turned out differently. It's a great complement to the original. An AU of sorts.
4. The Fool from the Elderling series by Robin Hobb
Tumblr media
The Fool. Beloved. Amber. They have many names and aliases, from Robin Hobbs' fantasy series The Elderlings.
Beloved is such an interesting character, not defined by any societal expectations and always confusing everyone with their words. We watch them grow throughout the series, from the king's creepy little jester that unsettles others, to an adult that is admittedly treated very harshly by the author (the story) but I still love to death. Here are some of my favorite quotes by the Fool:
"You are confusing plumbing and love again."
“As for what it means, how should I know? I’m a fool, not an interpreter of dreams. Good day.”
"Tomorrow owes you the sum of your yesterdays. No more than that. And no less."
“I have never been wise”
“Don’t do what you can’t undo, until you’ve considered what you can’t do once you’ve done it.”
5. Yang Wenli from LOTGH
Tumblr media
Yang Wenli from the Legend of the galactic heros. A classic anime series and one of my favorites. Again, I struggled to only choose one character from the series, because I really love Reinhard as well- the other main character, but from the two I had to to with Yang Wenli.
LOTGH is a space war epic between two different states, the old galactic empire, and the newer, democratic planets alliance that broke free. Yang Wenli belongs to the latter. And while it may sound like the better choice-and he thinks so, as well-it's only the better choice from a theoretical standpoint. Because the one he's up against from the empire, Reinhard, is a wonderful leader. The kind that comes around only once in a century. Meanwhile the so called democracy is corrupt and ugly. Heading downhill while the empire is only getting better. And that's where the two collide. I love Yang Wenli for his idealism, his self awareness of his flaws, and those of others. He once says, 'if I was born in the empire I'd be flocking to join Reinhard's ranks'.
He's a realist, and a damn genius. And that's where the tragedy and irony strikes- because of the badly led and structured democracy he's in, he doesn't have full command of the army. He doesn't have any real power. All the corruption and red tape don't allow him to do much, to use his full potential, so he's always a step behind.
And yet. All he wants in life is to retire peacefully. He didn't even want to be a soldier, but he's dragged there by others, a bit of a pushover that he is. He's a tragic character really. Full of contradictions that he himself is aware of, and you can't help but love him for it.
6. Zhou Zishu from tian ya ke/word of honor
Tumblr media
Zhou Zishu.
He is just. So. Relatable.
A burnt out man in his early 30s/late 20s who only wanted to live his last few years in peace. Essentially committed slow suicide to get the fuck out of his job because he couldn't take it anymore. We've all been there. Not that I'd take such drastic measures but. Who hasn't fantasized getting into an accident on their way to work to, you know, not go to work? Just me? OK. Moving on lol (according to reddit it's actually quite common. Sad that we live like this. Kudos to zishu for doing something about it).
The novel (tian ya ke) is quite different from the drama (word of honor), where the gif is from. The characterization is also a bit different, and I have to say I prefer novel! Zishu over drama! Zishu. He's more free, more shameless, learns to live without shackles and is not your typical protagonist. In fact, he's no protagonist at all. He's really just a side character, despite being the narrator of the story. Like many of us. But the man learns to be happy. Learns to fly free.
7. Wen Kexing from tian ya ke/word of honor
Tumblr media
I broke my own rule about one character per series because there is no way I can have A'Xu (Zhou Zishu from above) listed anywhere without his Lao Wen. They come as a package anywhere they go. Anywhere. So here is my favorite malewife Wen Kexing. A beautiful, eerie man that looks more like a ghost. Knows how to cook. Knows how to clean. Knows how to split your throat in half with his bare fingertips.
He's terrifying. The king of all "ghosts"- the most brutal criminals. He's also someone that learns how to lower his defenses for the first time in his life. How to be a little bit selfless for once. To care for another. He's the one that teaches Zishu how to he shameless. He's fucking hilarious, a flirt, an unashamedly gay man that takes pride in all the men he's fucked and yet will cry crocodile tears to Zishu to let him get it on, and then he'll thank his dead sister for it later. I love these idiots. They're perfect for each other.
Also prefer the novel version of Wen Kexing, but the drama has a perfect cast and beautiful robes. I've got two replicas of them!
8. Nodame from Nodame Cantabile
Tumblr media
Idiotic Nodame. Love this girl. She's hilarious and silly and isn't embarrassed to go after what she wants, even if she makes a fool of herself.
She's an aspiring pianist. A piano student to be precise, on the older side compared to her peers. But she's really great at it. Not in the traditional way, because she does things in her own way-- she's with the teacher designated for the worst students and spends an entire semester (or years? It's been a bit, I don't remember) composing a song about farts LOL.
She's a really likeable character, and what I really love about her is her stubbornness and grit to stick to what she wants. It's not something easy to do, and oftentimes we have to make decisions against our own wishes, especially when it comes to our careers. Nodame tries, but all she wants is to be a kindergarten piano teacher, but everyone tells her she shouldn't do that. In the end, her choices are hers and hers only.
9. Balsa from Moribito
Tumblr media
I recently finished this anime and fell in love with the MC, Balsa.
It's not often we see strong female leads in anime, that are not only well written but stand on their own without relying on romance or other characters. She's an incredibly strong woman, both physically and emotionally. The series focuses on her growth and her bond with the little burden she's tasked to care for.
She is a little selfish, perhaps a bit too cold. Plain looking, and very much an adult at 30. And she looks like it! Not something you see often in anime. She's a great fighter, and through her journey with this child that she has to care for, she learns of a different kind of strength. And yet, towards the end, she's still the same lone woman we meet at the beginning. Someone simply just... living.
10. Renge from Non Non Biyorin
Tumblr media
Little Renge. I adore her. She's adorable and so, so funny.
From Non Non Biyorin, which I also love to bits because I grew up in the country and the country life humor just sends me.
She's a 6 yo child that is smarter than the 8th graders, and always so serious about everything she does, even the cold corner store owner has a soft spot for her. She's like a cat. Really cute, really funny, and really mean, even unintentionally.
Ugh. I miss this show. I wish we had more seasons!
