#I did a rewatch of just wanda and vision from the films
bedlamsbard · 6 months
Note
btw, what are your thoughts on WandaVision? I really liked the concept and the execution of the first half but was a bit disappointed by the decision to have a Big Enemy To Fight instead of being entirely about Wanda's duality and internal conflict.
I don't mind the show having an enemy to fight, though I think WV might have complicated it a bit too much by having too many antagonists that turned up in the last couple of eps, particularly because none of them have since shown up in the MCU and explained what they were doing there in the first place. That last is really a Phase 4/5 problem, though, not a WV-specific one. (When I did my rewatch a few months ago, I also said that WV really should have had a cameo from either Ross or another Avenger -- it needed a tie to something else that was relevant to Wanda.)
I like WV a lot -- it's very rewatchable for me, and I like how playful and experimental it is. I think it's also pretty good at actually dealing with the post-Blip chaos when it acknowledges it, and a lot of the character dynamics are excellent. On rewatch I can pick out some nitpicks with it -- for example, they never acknowledge that Pietro also got Infinity Stone-kickstarted powers, despite Fake Pietro and Tommy both having superspeed in the show. And "Agatha All Along" is a bop, but like...what did Agatha actually do aside from insinuating herself into Wanda's life and enchanting Ralph Bohner.
From a two and a half years later perspective, WV's biggest problem is what I think of the as the "CATWS Problem" -- although it's individually excellent and does pretty well at building off preceding installments of the MCU, it's essentially ignored by the later installments, even the ones that depend on it (a.k.a. DSMOM; we'll see how The Marvels does with Monica, I guess). Through no fault of its own, it becomes retroactively worse just because of how it's incorporated, or not incorporated, into the rest of the MCU.
Fun fact: my department at the university was consulted for the Latin that's in Agatha's flashback scene, since the movie was filmed in Atlanta, and Jac Schaeffer's assistant e-mailed the nearest classics department to make the Latin be Not Google Translate. I've seen the request letter with the original Google Translate version, it's pretty bad. The Latin in the show is accurate now! A friend of mine did the Latin translation and Marvel Studios sent her some WV merch when the episode aired, though I don't think she's credited in the ep.
Other fun fact: the first time I watched WV I hadn't seen anything Wanda or Vision had been in, because the only three Marvel movies I'd seen since CATWS in 2014 had been Ant-Man and the Wasp, Thor Ragnarok, and Captain Marvel. So WV was actually my introduction to Wanda and Vision.

Blog #3 - MCU
Welcome back to the blog where we discuss it all relating to movies and T.V. This week I want to discuss a very popular movie series or in this case it may be more appropriate to say universe. That’s right this week I want to discuss the past, present, and future of the MCU aka Marvel Cinematic Universe. Before I start, I thought we could switch it up a little and make this more interactive. Below is a quiz to tell you which MCU character you are internally and externally.
I have taken the quiz myself and I was surprised to learn that on the inside I’m like Captain America and on the outside, I’m like Ant-Man. I was a little confused at first but after reading the explanation I can see the similarities. Who did you get? Was it who you expected or totally off?
Coming back to the topic of today I’ll first be discussing the MCU phase 1-3. In my opinion and I might be a little biased these phases are probably one of the best cinematic masterpieces of my generation. In case you have forgotten what movies were in these phases here is a picture as a reference.
Tumblr media
The reason why I think these movies were so amazing is for several reasons. One of the main reasons is because of the writing and directing. I never realized how great the writing and directing were until I watched other movies or *cough* *cough* stage 4 of the MCU. In phase 1 were introduced to the main MCU characters like Iron man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. We also get to see our heroes fight together for the first time in the Avengers movie. Later in phases 2 and 3, we get to see more secondary characters and heroes introduced. Another main reason why I liked phases 1-3 so much is how refreshing it was to me. When the MCU introduced Iron man first I felt like that was a statement. They could have gone in chronological order and chosen Captain America who is the most like Superman. A superhero who is just, righteous, and courageous. But instead, they choose a character who is riddled with personality problems that would make him an unfit hero. My next reason is the movies were funny, genuinely funny. Which is something I feel is either not shown in superhero movies or not done right. My final reason (at least for today) is the details. I love that saying it’s all in the details. I feel like the MCU understood that perfectly. Accompanied by a great plot, writing, and directing it just took the films to a whole new level.
The next phase I want to discuss is phase 4 the current stage we are in.
Tumblr media
While the dates for some of these are off due to the pandemic, we are currently in phase 4. If I am honest and I always try to be I currently have a very strong dislike for phase 4. Now I don’t dislike all of it just certain aspects of it. For example, I really enjoyed Wanda Vision, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier, What If, Doctor Strange 2, and Spiderman 3. The rest of the movies and shows were a bit of a letdown for me. In my opinion, the biggest disappointment was Loki and Black Widow. I felt like these characters had a dark past that was never talked about in the movies. Furthermore, both had complex personalities. Considering both are no longer “alive” it would have been a great opportunity to explore their origin stories. In addition, most of the shows/movies felt cheesy in the writing and directing. The saddest part is you can see the difference in the writing and directing from the last phase to this one. A funny joke I saw on Instagram was comparing the writing in the past vs the present. For example, in infinity war (phase 1) Thor says bring me Thanos. While in Love and Thunder Lady Thor said eat my hammer. Rewatching both scenes just doesn’t give the same effect. On top of that, the plot didn’t always make sense to me. I’m often left feeling confused rather than excited at the end of a movie/show.
Kinda like this...
Tumblr media
The final stage I will be discussing is stage 5 and 6.
Tumblr media
After watching most of the content in phase 4 I strongly considered being done with the MCU. Stage 5 didn’t give me much hope that it was going to get better. The only movie I would be interested in watching is Guardians of the Galaxy. But even then, I’m unsure how interesting it will be missing one of the main characters, Gamora. However, just when I’m about to write off the MCU they release phase 6 and I see they added 2 Avengers movies. This is big news for any marvel fan because the last Avengers movie was in 2019 . Futhermore with a lot of the original crew dead, it seemed unlikely that there would be a new Avengers movie. I don't know what to expect but this gives me hope for the future of the MCU and I can't help but be excited once again.
Tumblr media
Thank you guys for tuning into this episode and I hope to see you guys again next week. Love you 3000.

an essay on Bucky
In the lull between J-drama season, I caught up with WandaVision, which surprised me with how inventive it was, but also how well it reconstructed Wanda's grief, and by so doing, finally gave substance to the awkward Wanda/Vision romance that popped up in Infinity War. I might talk about it all at another time. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is such a necessary addition to the Captain America narrative. Episode 3 reminded me of just how much I loved Captain America: Winter Soldier (I actually went back and rewatched all 3 Cap films after this), but how little I actually cared for Bucky or Falcon at the time. In their own way, the movies were a success, because they really brought out the heroism and idealism of Steve Rogers, and the side characters were not there to detract from this (unlike the Thor movies, ahem). The first 2 episodes were comparatively slower, but I felt it provided what the movies couldn't give the titular characters - the personal stories and struggles that would have enriched the primary plot in the movies. Even in the movies, Sam came across (like Anthony Mackie himself) as someone who was humourous and wise-cracking, but beneath that, quite mature and considerate. It takes a considerable amount of trust, not just in Cap's integrity, but also in his judgement, to then also trust Cap's belief that there is a good Bucky underneath the efficiently lethal Winter Soldier. Sam, true to form as a VA counsellor, accepted that this was Cap's baggage of grief and guilt, and allowed Steve to work through it, even as it frequently placed Sam in a position of trying to survive an attack from the brainwashed Bucky. Bucky feels quite different from the first movie. It's almost as if he has regressed in terms of his emotional age, and I suppose we can blame it on the brainwashing. It's undeniable that he's got his shoulders full of grief and guilt and PTSD, but he's not ready to work through it. He's still in fight or flight mode about his past. He spends most of his therapy sessions deflecting and denying. He deals with fresh trauma - such as meeting Yori or Isaiah - the only way he knows how, which is to keep things bottled up. He's always on the verge of boiling over, while trying to hold himself back. I've been trying to figure out his motivation for his actions in episode 3, or exactly why this means so much for him. I think, as with every other aspect of his life, it's the conflict between his volition and his habituation. The Winter Soldier spent most of the last century running from mission to mission. As much as T'Challa said of him, "he tires of battle", as much as even he himself says he wants peace, he is habituated for battle. Having a fight or a mission or a purpose to work towards takes him away from having to deal with his mental health issues. It gives him an outlet for all the stress that he has no other way to release, even if it means feeling worse for it afterwards. I think, ultimately, Bucky's in too messy a headspace to be able to accept, let alone assist with, anyone else's emotional baggage. I don't think he's maliciously self-centered as such, just that his own issues already exhausts all of his reserves to try and hold himself together for this new social order he has to live in. That's not to say Sam's issues is any less important, but just that Sam unfortunately is forced to be the stronger one. I think when the trailers first came out, people were saying Bucky would be the straight man in the comical duo, but in reality Sam's the one with the straight mind. I don't know if it's bad writing or intentional, despite the Winter Soldier being repeatedly called "a ghost", what MCU has shown of his missions have all involved overt brutality - his attacks on the Starks, Nick Fury, Steve and lately Nakajima Yori's son were all out in the open with very little attempt to consider the consequences. In fact, and I suppose this is important to point out now that he's working along Sam, he is as ruthless with his opponents as he is with himself. Particularly in episodes 2 and 3, we see that he is starting to slip back into that habit, and it's Sam being the voice of reason trying to call him out on his craziness and how much danger he is potentially creating. This series has really made me feel for Bucky, but if I take a step back, I really feel for Sam. Even without all the other issues with the Cap mantle and his family to deal with, it's a tough job putting your life on the line next to someone who's basically doing every avoidance technique in the book, while continually revisiting his traumas. At some point, something or someone is going to break, and Sam's the one standing right next to the ticking bomb. I guess what's really sweet to see in the 3rd episode is that Bucky has made some progress. He asks for help now, rather than trying to fight his way through everything on his own as he did in Civil War. It's surprising that Bucky actually realises people will help him if he allows a bit of vulnerability to come out, although I feel like that whining voice ("Sam, we don't know how they're getting the serum!" after Sam tells him he's gone off the deep end) is more Sebastian than Bucky. His appeal to Sharon was also surprising, because I expected it more of Sam than him. That all being said, as much as I like Bucky and is happy he can accept that he is vulnerable, I really don't like the way he strongarmed Sam into "breaking the law and sticking your neck out for me again". On what grounds does he expect Sam to do this? He's not Steve. Sam trusts Steve at the get go because he's a good guy who has a clean record of genuinely wanting to do the best by people. And sure, Steve also wanted to help a dangerous criminal, but that criminal was not acting of his own free will, and he was also innocent of the particular crime he was being framed for (the bombing that killed T'Chaka). Bucky is not only undermining Steve's friendship with Sam, but also undermining his own self-worth. The whole idea of Bucky asking it this way, and Sam actually accepting, was just...poorly written.

fight me about it
[each tier is just in release order, they’re not individually ranked. more thoughts under the cut]
[Going into this MCU watch I had already seen Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Homecoming and half of The Incredible Hulk]
---- S TIER ----
- AVENGERS -  I fuckin love seeing them all together in a lil crossover moment. And it makes me more interested in characters like Steve Rogers who I don’t really care about to be interested in a full movie about him but I like seeing him in the Avengers movies hanging out with everyone. I nearly cried when they were all stood doing their pose in the middle of the road. You know the one. Also I love Loki in this but I mean I love him in everything so that’s not a surprise.
- AGE OF ULTON - I was depressed when I found out there would no Loki but I still loved it, again, because it was a big ensemble movie. Ultron was really funny. 10/10 villain. I liked Clint as well which is rare because I generally couldn’t care less about him
- RAGNAROK - From the metas I’ve been reading/skimming through recently I guess this is a pretty polarizing film and I can (kinda) see why but idk, it works for me. I love the vibes. I’m not really into superhero movies (which is ironic considering I committed to watching 20+ superhero movies) and I think that’s probs part of why I like this film so much, it for sure has a different vibe to all the other MCU films. I’m obsessed with everyone in this.
- INFINITY WAR & END GAME - Obsessed. Crossover event. I was dreading End Game because of how long it is but I think watching all the previous movies so quickly meant an extra 30mins of a film was nothing. I love everyone. I spent half of my time watching these movies on like the edge of tears I stg. I didn’t realise Thanos had like an active motive for doing what he’s doing, I thought he was just Generic Evil Guy so that was really cool. I knew who was gonna die so that wasn’t a shock to me but it did still hit me pretty hard.
- LOKI - I just love it so much. I could have maybe done with an extra in there somewhere that was more of Loki and Sylvie building their relationship and kind being forced to spend time together because it does low-key feel like they fell in love after being together for like 24 hours but meh, it’s not a big deal. Love it a lot.
---- A TIER ----
- GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 1 & VOL 2 - Love all the characters a lot, very fun. Don’t have much to say, I just really like it. Also them paired with Thor is the most exciting shit I’m so ready for it
- ANT-MAN - Paul Rudd my beloved. Funny. Don’t have much to say lmao, I just like it a lot.
- SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING & FAR FROM HOME - I just love Peter Parker so much bro he’s so cute and funny. Protect him at all costs tbh. No Way Home trailer WHEN
---- B TIER ---
- THOR - I was really excited to watch this and then when I did I was like yeah it’s fine. I didn’t like Loki as much as I thought I was going to but then I loved him in everything else he’s in which is weird? I think I’m going to like him (and the film in general) a lot more when I rewatch it in a couple of days. Thor’s blonde eyebrows are gross I’m sorry.
- THOR: THE DARK WORLD - Again, good but nothing to write home about. I think everything with Loki in this is GOD TIER. He has some great shit going on in this film, same with Thor 1 tbh I just don’t think I was paying enough attention to really appreciate it in Thor 1. Will probs also like this more on a rewatch.
- IRON MAN 3 - Easily the best Iron Man film. Funny but also told quite a serious story with Tony’s PTSD or whatever it was.
- DOCTOR STRANGE - Don’t have much to say, it’s just cool innit
- WANDAVISION - I wanted to love this because I love Wanda and Vision and I’d been wanting to see more of them but overall I was just like yeah this is good I guess. Like there are some eps where I was like wow I don’t care and there are other eps where I was really into it. I didn’t like the black and white episodes (not because they were bad but because I don’t like watching things in black and white, I find it hard to connect with it idk), I loved white vision, I loved the ep where she was pregnant, I didn’t love the going back to Darcy and whoever they were watching Wanda’s show or whatever, I don’t give a fuuuck about Agatha, I do love the story they’re tryna tell about Wanda’s grief and all that. So yeah, overall.. Average. I love what they’re tryna tell but I’m iffy on the way they told it.
- THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER - I’ve always thought Sam was fine and Bucky was meh but this show made me like them both a lot. Iconic duo. Defo more my vibe in that it wasn’t all over the place like Wandavision was but it’s still not my faaave thing in the world.
--- C TIER ---
- IRON MAN 2 - I’ve watched this twice now and literally all I remember is Pepper shouting at Tony from the car??? I don’t remember being bored but it clearly didn’t leave a lasting impression on me lmao
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER - I was dreading watching this but I was pleasantly surprised. I was invested at some points but at other points I felt like it was going on forever. Defo an interesting backstory. Skinny Steve Rogers is my sleep paralysis demon
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR - The big airport fight was really cool but do I fuck know what they were fighting about
- ANT-MAN AND THE WASP - It was funny like the first one, I love Paul Rudd and the Ghost (was that her name??) has a cool power but overall I just.... don’t care about that woman’s lost mother I’m sorry. The end where you see they’ve been dusted is really cool tho.
--- D TIER ----
- IRON MAN - It is good I’ve just seen it 3 times at this point and I think once would have been enough
- THE INCREDIBLE HULK - Watched the first hour-ish of this a year-ish ago and basically fell asleep and I couldn’t face trying it again so I just skipped it and threw it in D tier. Maybe I’ll try again one day. Maybe I won’t. It doesn’t really fit in with all the other films so meh
- CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER - All I remember is a cool car chase scene and Bucky looked cool. I think I need to rewatch this because people seem to really love it? And I just didn’t care.
- CAPTAIN MARVEL - It was fine. I just don’t care. Soz Carol

22, 31, 32!
22. Favourite character that was snapped Oh boy. I have two answers, the first one is my answer from the me that was watching IW and experiencing all those emotions for the first time and the second is as of now.
Peter Parker - Spidey has always been my favourite character, possibly of all time, non-exclusive to each version, and the fact that Peter has always been the kind of person to blame himself for things made his final words to Tony gut wrenching. He wants to look out for the little guy, he wants to protect his city but he ended up in space, unable to do any of that. His last words were "I'm sorry" and it encapsulates his guilt and sorrow so well. Holland is fantastic. The fact that his spidey sense would enable him to feel the dusting coming as well - oh man. And the "I don't want to go"s improvised by him? I mean, I was in tears. Wanda Maximoff - This is largely due to WandaVision really fleshing her character with time and nuance that was ever only implied in the main films (because she was never given as much time or spotlight as other characters, Olsen and Bettany were always fantastic at selling what they were given with despite that though). Before the show, I never really had a firm opinion on Wanda? I thought she was cool and she and Vision were sweet and then Cap came on screen and everyone cheered. Now, rewatching IW with her story in WV in mind, it's a whole new experience, viewing the film through her lens. She's just such a tragic character and I love that out of all the snap victims, she just accepts her fate. She's relieved. She was finally at a place in her life where she potentially could see a future with Vision and that's ripped from her moments after. She just can't catch a break and I love tragic characters. Now, she's up there with my all time favourite MCU characters.
31. Which side character did you hope/had hoped would get more recognition?
I think this guy can be classified as an extra but I really loved the German guy from Avengers. The one that stood up to Loki when he was trying to get everyone to kneel and said "There are always men like you". He sort of reminds me of the good in humanity and the scene just instills a sense of hope in me every time I view it.
32. Saddest character death? This is probably the white bread answer but, Tony Stark. He's my favourite MCU character and he's a lot of the reason why I got into the MCU in the first place, Spider-man aside. I love him as a character, how broken he is, his PTSD, his drive, his terrible decisions stemming from his guilt. He means a lot to me so going into Endgame, I was terrified. When I registered what was happening, I swear I went through the five stages of grief. It felt like a close friend whom I knew really well, who was a part of who I am, had passed. And the fact that his family was there when we went? That his last words were "I am Iron Man"? I love him so much and he's such a fantastic character. I was,, a real wreck :,)) Thank you for the ask! Sorry for this essay of an answer haha, I love these characters and this universe so it's easy to go off on a tangent. Hope you have a great day!

Better Than Words (OC x Bucky Barnes)
Move In Day
PART THREE/?
A/N: Day 2 of my posting several days in a row to feel something about this goddamn fic and again a kind reminder that this takes place in an AU after Spiderman: Homecoming (also after rewatching it I realize that in this AU they did not locate upstate they are still in the original Stark -> Avengers tower in the city) where the Avengers have reassembled and the following all live in the Avengers tower: Tony, Pepper, Steve, Bucky, Natasha, Wanda & Vision. Peter Parker’s identity is still intact and he spends his free time training at the Avengers tower under his ‘Stark Internship’.
also here is my masterlist!
Word Count: 2686
Warnings: fluff, mild angst, and slow burn
Eventually, they cruise into the faculty parking lot and Steve pulls into the spot right next to them very shortly after.
The four all grab one box to start, just so Maya can unlock all the doors and show them exactly where the classroom is. They proceed into the building, up the stairs, and all the way down the long hallway and in through the second to last door to the right.
It was obviously very underwhelming for Nat, Steve and Bucky to see blank walls, a mess of 40-odd something student desks and other miscellaneous things left by the previous teacher. But Maya’s heart swelled and she couldn’t stop herself from smiling.
She walked up to the school provided desk and dropped the box in her arms so she could float around the classroom to truly take it all in. The three followed her lead, dropping all their boxes and waltzing around the room as well. Steve reached up and touched the flag hanging in the corner while Bucky messed with the several maps that sprung down from above the white board. As for Nat, she walked across the wall filled with windows, opening all the blinds and pulling on the strings that let them fly up, flooding the room with sunshine and then brushing the gray dust away on her pants. All the while, Maya continued to dance around the room, admiring every bit of it from the hole filled ceiling panels to the pale marbled floor tiles.
After a few minutes of complete awe on Maya’s part, Nat suggests that they start bringing things up.
“We can just bring everything up for you,”  Nat suggested, “You can stay up here and start unpacking. Unloading the cars won’t take long anyways.”
“That would be great! I’m gonna start moving some stuff around to fit the new furniture.”
Nobody wasted any time. The three Avengers made their way out of the classroom and Maya started moving the provided teacher’s desk to the back of the room.
Said teacher’s desk and chair were placed in the far left corner for storage and potentially a future TA, and without even stopping to think Maya got started on rearranging the student desks. She started by roughing out half of them and parting a distinct path down the center,
After realizing how exhausting this was already proving to be, Maya stopped and to her enjoyment, the three were already coming back upstairs.
Despite being kind of winded already from moving the desks around, Maya still convinced herself that it really did get harder to breathe when she saw Bucky walk into the room.
But who could blame her? This was the first time she really took the time to notice his metal arm. It was difficult not to stare, considering it was holding a 90-some pound box steady on his shoulder, the plates shifting and making very low humming sounds as they did. And all the while his right hand was still managing two full boxes of books. And to Maya’s disbelief he carried all this weight as easily as if the boxes were filled with feathers.
Bucky floated in and plopped the books down on the closest student desk and then asked, “Where do you want the desk?”
Maya was still staring a bit, so much so that Bucky had to clear his throat to elicit an answer from her.
“Sorry! You can just drop over there,” she pointed now to the far right corner that you could see from the doorway. “Thanks, James.”
He nods and drops it before turning his heel straight back to the cars.
Nat drops down the box she was holding and nods her head at Maya. “Were you staring at Bucky?”
Maya automatically shook her head. “No, I wasn’t staring. I just never really look at his arm, I guess,” she said softly.
“You get used to it,” Steve chirped in, dropping four boxes full of books. “But a lot of girls stare, Maya. Anyways, the arm adds to the broody thing he’s got going for him.”
Nat laughed a bit. Maya did too but hers was pretty forced due to the fact that her mind was filled with more thoughts of Bucky’s arm.
It was after a quick glance back at all the desks that Maya decided to wait until they were done bringing everything up to the classroom so that she could ask Steve or Bucky to move them for her. She took the downtime to assemble her new desk chair.
By the time she was half done with the chair they had brought every last book and box into the classroom.
“Alright! What next, boss?” Steve asked, setting down the last box.
After clumsily finding her way to her feet, Maya brushed off the dust from the butt of her pants. “Um, Nat, can you start alphabetizing the books by author? And then you guys can help me rearrange the chairs.” Her feet carried her towards the messy sea of chairs. “I want to split them in half and create an aisle down the center of them, and then have both sides facing the aisle, so like, facing each other.”
After a few minutes of trying to go back to the chair, Steve and Bucky kept having more and more questions. Steve decided it would be best if he finished the chair and Maya just gave Bucky more explicit directions.
Despite feeling conflicted about being “alone” with Bucky, Maya managed to give him direction and they got it done fairly quickly.
By the time they were done, Steve had finished the new rolling chair and was sitting in it, his legs stretched out in front of him and reclining slightly. He tested out the wheels and grinned as he rolled smoothly towards the door.
“Ooooh, that is nice! Mind if Buck and I take this thing for a spin?” Steve asked, grinning.
“Go ahead,” Maya laughed, as Bucky’s face lit up, automatically following Steve out of the room.
Maya decided to start organizing the pieces for her new desk so she could have one of the guys help her afterwards. She didn’t get very far in this task before she was whipping her head up at the sound of Steve’s whooping.
To her surprise, Steve was sitting on the chair with his legs up, zooming down the hall a little too fast and was always shortly followed by Bucky running up behind him. This happened maybe half a dozen times before they switched spots.
She couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of Bucky, his hair disheveled and his knees tucked up in front of him with a smile on his face, flying past the open doorway.
It was after they switched back that Maya and Nat heard a slam. They both got up and went to the doorway to find Steve on the floor at the end of the hall, the chair tipped onto its side and Bucky running up towards him, practically doubled forward with laughter.
“Are they always like this?”
Nat snickered, “Oh yeah. And you would think that Tony’s the one that hates it but you should have seen when Pepper caught them with a rolling chair and one of Tony’s glove blasters. They were using the glove to propel themselves down the longest hallway we have. She was so livid, she literally sent them to their rooms.”
Maya’s brow rises and she laughs before sticking her head further out into the hallway. “Steve, you good?”
“Never better!” He calls out, getting up and bringing the chair and Bucky back into the classroom.
--
After Steve and Bucky built Maya’s desk, she left all her things in a pile on the desktop and decided to leave it for later so she could help Nat and the guys organize all the books instead.
The duration of this book organization was predominantly teasing Steve for not having the alphabet memorized. This joke continued on for a longer than reasonable amount of time.
The minority of the book alphabetizing was Maya telling Steve everything that he missed about literature since he froze.
“Stevie here was always the bookworm,” Bucky shared. “Would rather read than go on the dates I set up for him.”
Steve shook his head slightly, “All the girls you ever brought around were there for you, Buck.”
Maya didn’t know about Steve’s physique pre-serum so this was kind of hard to believe. Despite this, she thought about Bucky and the way his voice sounded when he called her doll. She believed in the concept of Bucky being a ladies’ man after relishing in the memory of his velvety voice.
“What kind of things did you read Steve?” Maya asked, changing the subject out of sheer discomfort caused by thinking about Bucky taking two girls home.
“The classics, some of Fitzgerald, Steinbeck, Hemingway. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well Tolkien’s series went off! I made Buck watch all the films with me when I found out about them.” Steve beamed.
Maya got excited to hear about his liking of Tolkien and got talking about her favorite fantasy series. She raved about Harry Potter, which Steve was very skeptical about in the beginning. She also raved about contemporary work and how fantasy has started to merge with science fiction in the last decade.
For the duration of this conversation, Nat and Bucky simply listened to Maya ramble on about her book collection and Nat giggled when she warned Steve about the Twilight series.
“Stephanie Meyer’s best work had to be The Host. Great sci-fi and significantly less teen angst.”
“I promise you, Harry Potter is worth reading. It’s an easy read but still deeply enjoyable. The characters are lovable and it's definitely a world you can submerge yourself in when this one just isn’t cutting it, you know?”
By the end of it, Maya had convinced him to give Harry Potter a chance. She sent him home with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and a few classics he missed while he was in the ice including Fahrenheit 451, Lord of the Flies, and Where the Wild Things Are.
After marking Steve down for having these books, giddy about her new library system, they were done for the day.
And with that, they filed out, Maya locked the door and they made their way down to the cars once again.
--
“Are you guys sure you can’t do dinner tonight?” Maya asked.
“Sorry, shortstack, no amount of books you own is going to replace a real workout.” Steve gave Maya a bit of a side hug squeeze before walking towards the driver’s door of Happy’s SUV.
“I’ll ride back with Maya and just meet you guys back at the tower,” Nat chirped, climbing into the car.
“Thank you again!” Maya called out.
“No problem, doll,” Bucky hummed, as he waved goodbye closing his door behind him
-
Once they were on the freeway again Nat asked, “So not Steve… but maybe his best friend?”
“Natasha! You really don’t quit do you?” Maya rolled her eyes.
Nat hesitated for only a moment. “No, I don’t. You should really know that about me.” She paused to laugh. “I do think the Steve thing was just cute but Bucky-- you and Bucky have tension.”
Maya rolled her eyes. “No!!! There is no tension! You are totally misreading it.”
“I know what tension is. And you guys have tension. Even Bucky noticed it.” Nat grinned to herself.
“You are so full of shit!” She made sure her tone was playful but she just prayed that Nat wasn’t looking at her because she felt her cheeks begin to flush. “James didn’t say anything to you about me, did he?”
“You’re going to have to ask him yourself, sweetheart.” Nat teased.
“Stop! I don’t even know why he calls me that. And doll? Does he call everyone these names?”
Nat shook her head, “He definitely doesn’t call me any pet names, but that’s because he called me princess once in the ring and he regretted it shortly after.”
Maya laughed at the thought of Nat kick dropping Bucky onto the floor of a boxing ring. “I don’t even know James. And I severely hope you’re joking about him thinking anything of me.”
“Okay, okay. He didn’t say anything about tension. But he does think you’re weird-- well, not weird per say.”
Maya groaned a bit, knocking the back of her head against the headrest. “Absolutely nothing you’re saying is making me feel better about seeing James ever again. Ever.”
“He didn’t say anything bad! He just thinks that you don’t like him. He feels like you avoid addressing him,” Nat explained.
“I don’t avoid him! I just don’t know how to talk to him. I feel like he only really talks to Steve and I didn’t want to overstep and make him uncomfortable.”
“No, Maya, it’s fine.” Nat patted her shoulder. “I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. But Bucky’s also not wrong. You’re not your same chirpy self when he's around. You kind of get quiet, like you’re thinking about every move you make.”
“Well, I kind of do! He makes me uncomfortable. Not in a bad way! I just-- The only things I know about James are the things that were in the news, and those were obviously all… horrible really. Of course, I also saw a few pieces about when he came back and joined the Avengers initiative, but I still can’t wrap my head around everything he’s been through.”
All of the things that Maya said were true. She remembers being in grad school, watching the news and being introduced to this new character: The Winter Soldier. It was appalling, having to find out that he was nothing but a pawn in some grand scheme that did nothing but cause pain-- Learning that he had to live with the things he did, despite not having any control over it was difficult for Maya then and difficult to think about again now. But the fact of the matter is that Maya never thought this moral war would actually be relevant to her. And now here she was, becoming very invested in her friendships with several super humans and renowned heroes.
The other thing to take into consideration was that she was attracted to Bucky. She had to stop herself from thinking about all the bad things he was capable of. This was especially important when she got well ahead of herself, thinking about what it would be like to develop her own relationship with him. And aside from the physical attraction, another part of her couldn’t help but daydream about all the stories he had to tell. The 40s, the war, HYDRA, The Avengers. As a person who dedicated her life to loving stories, she couldn’t imagine how blissful it would be to hear some firsthand from Bucky himself.
Nat nodded, her smile fading as she had to face the reoccurring realization that Maya was a risky person to befriend. “I understand. Truth be told, we don’t really mix with the non-vigilante types anymore.”
Maya scoffed softly, “I mean, yeah, I figured. That’s why I was so nervous about asking to spend time together outside of Corners, and then when you teased me about Steve and I-- well, I’ve just been confused.”
“We have too! It’s been a moral conflict really. We don’t want to put you in any danger, of course, but I don’t know. I guess, you just give us a glimpse of what normal life is like, and it's really refreshing.”
A small smile creeped onto both the girls’ faces.
“Well, I’m glad I can give you guys that. I genuinely enjoy spending time with you guys, too. You’ve made the move a lot easier on me, to be honest.”
“I’m glad. Since we’re being honest-- I think you’re in too deep now. We’re not going anywhere.”
Maya couldn’t help but grin and be ecstatic about the fact that she had friends to rely on in the city.

Thanks for answering!! I loooove Peter and John and Emori and well most characters on your list really! While we're at it, which characters are your least favorite in MCU/the100? And which characters do you think are overrated or underrated?
Hey, awesome! And no problem! I love talking about the characters I like. You can come talk to me about them anytime! Or even characters you like that I don’t pay enough attention to.
Okay, this was a GREAT question, and I basically wrote you a novel in response.
The 100 – Clarke Griffin (if that wasn’t already obvious)
I used to love Clarke Griffin, but at this point, I just get annoyed whenever she comes on my screen. Clarke was a much stronger character in s2, when the writing committed to portraying her as flawed and morally grey and kind of ruthless in a way that was necessarily but also kind of concerning.
Now it seems like they always want to remind me she’s The Most Important – she’s almost become a version of the Chosen One trope in a narrative where that really shouldn’t be a thing – and a hero and just, like, suuuper pretty (the staircase scene was ridiculous). They’ve made her The Popular, Pretty Girl trope and I hate it. They might tell me in dialogue over and over again that there are no bad guys, but even when Clarke does bad, selfish things, they refuse to commit to it. She doesn’t face consequences and the writing is too concerned with making us side with her than actually calling her out. Even this season while other characters have been listing why they’re angry with her, everything is framed in a way to make us sympathize with her.
Letting a character do flawed things but trying to sway the viewer to ignore those flaws and loudly tell me that they’re still a good person rather than showing it is the easiest way to get me to not like a character. They’ve written Clarke as incredibly selfish, arrogant, and unwilling to listen to anyone else, unwilling to truly apologize or learn from her mistakes – but they just won’t admit to it or let her grow. OR commit to an actual downward spiral arc. Either would be accepted.
Plus, she’s just boring now. Everything comes too easily for her – people she’s hurt forgive her too easily, and the nightblood is basically a superpower at this point. The writing of her is just lazy and it’s not compelling.
MCU – Steve Rogers
I also used to like Steve. Whedon’s characterization was always off (and I think AoU really contributed to the problems in his overall arc), but I liked him a lot in Cap 1 and Winter Soldier is still one of my favorite MCU movies and the best handling of his character overall.
I need to rewatch the MCU before I really dive into just what went wrong with Steve’s character, but I just never really found him as compelling a character past WS and I was mad at him more than I liked or sided with him. Even with Endgame, I was just indifferent to how his story ended.
I think he suffers from a lot of the same problems as the writing for Clarke does. Steve has flaws and that’s great – it makes him interesting and human – but even while the narrative shows you his flaws, it tries to push you to ultimately ignore them because he’s a hero and we’re supposed to side with him because they already established he’s a good man. The problem is that Steve’s flaws ultimately get shown a lot more than his heroic, moral side as the movies go on. And despite not showing us that heroic side, they keep loudly telling us over and over again that Steve still is a selfless hero who will lay down on the wire – something he actually hasn’t shown he will do (for anyone but Bucky, maybe) for several movies now. In fact, he’s the only one in Endgame who really doesn’t do “whatever it takes” or have to sacrifice ANYTHING.
What @gamorazenwhoberis says in this post really explains it better than I am right now.
In short, starting with AoU (the root of so many characterization issues in the MCU), the writing starts telling us that Steve’s a selfless hero and a shining example of a good man while only really showing us his flawed behavior. It’s hard to keep buying that Steve is the “lay down on the wire” type when he doesn’t do anything to prove it. I also really struggle to side with him in later movies because I find him, in the wise words of Rhodey, “dangerously arrogant.” Steve’s intentions are always good, but he never believes he can be wrong, and that’s a problem. And again, that could be a really interesting character flaw if portrayed as a flaw – but I think too often the narrative ultimately expects us to side with him because…I don’t know, he’s Captain America, you know?
It’s not necessarily Steve’s fault, because I think he IS meant to be portrayed as an ultimately heroic man who wants to help people but still has realistic human flaws – it’s the writing’s fault, because they way they end up framing it makes it look like Steve is all talk when it comes to heroic sacrifices but, unlike his fellow Avengers, unwilling to sacrifice or compromise.
Also, I’ll be honest - I relate so much with Tony and project so much onto him that a lot of his actions in Civil War felt like a personal betrayal and I had a hard time liking him again after that movie. I still like him just fine in the first few films and I actually did enjoy a lot of scenes in Endgame, but a lot of his actions bother me and never feel like they’re actually addressed in a way that calls him out and the writing of him REALLY bothers. And when I’m not mad it him in later movies, I’m mostly indifferent. I do love him in other universes though.
Underrated
1. JAMES RHODEY RHODES DOES NOT GET ENOUGH APPRECIATION!!! He’s fantastic and I love him and I really wish he was given a bit more room to shine in IW/Endgame, even though I get they’re juggling too many characters. They just handled him SO WELL in Civil War that I wanted to see more writing that showed how much conviction and sense of duty he had. Also the brief moment where he talked about being paralyzed and how they have to “work with what they’ve got” was so good, I wanted so much more of it.
2. Maria Hill! The writing has really wronged her. I didn’t like her writing in Age of Ultron at all (she’s not a secretary, Whedon), and she’s been such an afterthought in the MCU since then. I’m so excited to see her come back in FFH, because I think there’s still so much cool stuff they could do with her. I’d actually love them to write her with a bit more 616 characterization, because in comics she’s kind of both The Worst and The Best all at once. She’s just MEAN. But she also helps run a massive intelligence agency with an iron fist and has a strong sense of duty and right and wrong and she’s more than a little terrifying. She’s just great. I’m glad to see her back. I love that she’s still been doing her part to help protect the world even with SHIELD gone.
3. NEBULA!!! She has such a good arc and she was wonderful in Endgame and this whole fandom sleeps on her and it’s unacceptable.
Overrated
1. Wanda Maximoff. :/ I really, really WANT to like MCU Wanda, and Elizabeth Olson does an amazing job with what she’s given, but her character bothers me a lot. I like the concept of her arc going from villain to hero. She’s really similar to Nebula in that way – her turn to villainy was born from trauma, but over time she learned to repurpose that trauma into a way to help other people.
The problem is that….it just kind of doesn’t work for me. Part of it is that she also suffers from the Clarke Griffin Problem – aka, she’s flawed and she makes mistakes and the dialogue tells me this, but she either avoids consequences or she fails to apologize for them. In theory, I like her arc about mistakes and atonement and doing better (which is exactly why I love Tony and Natasha and Nebula), but the writing of it doesn’t work for me. And her relationship with Vision is just so boring it’s hard to be invested. I think they did such a disservice to her by killing off her most interesting relationship, even though I know it was for legal reasons. (I do like her relationship with Clint, though.)
2. Carol Danvers. :( Again, I WANT to like her so badly. I love comics Carol so much. I bought a Captain Marvel shirt for the premiere. I have a Captain Marvel coffee mug. I’ve been looking forward to her movie for YEARS.
But I just find MCU Carol incredibly bland. There isn’t much depth to her even after her own solo movie, and I think Captain Marvel did a terrible job of developing her – especially in comparison to how well other MCU heroes have been developed in their own solo films. She has a lot of surface-level qualities that are fun – like being headstrong and snarky and a badass (I AM delighted that there’s no question she is the strongest hero) – but there just isn’t much emotional depth to flesh her out. I still feel like all I really know about her are basic facts and not anything about what she believes in or feels, and I feel like I was more emotionally connected with Maria in one scene than I ever was with Carol. I’m really hoping her next movie fixes that problem for me because I want to love her.
Thanks for asking!! I’m not kidding. You can always come yell at me about fictional characters. :)

none of this is revised properly, so expect a lot of meandering. this is me yelling into the void.
i’m indifferent to marvel and this genre in general: i haven’t read the comics; i’ve watched many of the marvel movies, but not all of them. my favorite is black panther, and i also like guardians of the galaxy—maybe doctor strange, too (while i have a few issues with it, i ultimately enjoyed the journey and would rewatch it)...?
that said, i appreciate how you don’t necessarily have to see all of the movies to understand the gist of what's going on. sure, you’ll get more out of it if you do, but i don’t think it’s necessary. i enjoyed all of the cameos and the revisited scenes that i recognized in endgame. other things that i liked in endgame—ones that i immediately thought of...
the final battle is awesome — the music is wonderful, and i loved seeing everyone united and together; it's a great moment
time heist — because TIME TRAVEL
nebula! — i really enjoyed seeing her confront her old self; i’m guessing she opened up an alternate reality by killing her old self, and i wonder if that will be addressed in the future
gamora + nebula — UHHH, I JUST LOVE THEM
nebula + iron man — the lil football scene was cute
the ancient one — hate how she’s whitewashed; love tilda swinton; pretty much screamed when she reappeared... ;;;_____;;;
doctor strange + iron man — they play off of one another well in infinity war, and i liked seeing them here too
iron man — i don’t like what it means for pepper and their daughter, but ultimately i like the way his story ends
hulk in a cardigan + glasses
rocket + thor — their moments together in infinity war are delightful; while i think their dialogue is a bit iffy at times in endgame (i.e. the whole "you think you lost ppl??? i've lost ppl too!!!" bit because comparing losses on top of everything that's lobbed at thor in this film KINDA pisses me off)
starting with thanos’ death — i didn’t expect it, and it got me engaged in the beginning
INFINITY WAR
i thought infinity war was okay...? maybe less than okay now after endgame.
i liked the final battle. i loved how intense it was, and even though i wasn’t familiar with wanda or vision or their relationship, i felt for them. i enjoyed seeing the guardians of the galaxy crew + iron man + spider-man + doctor strange team up a lot; i liked seeing all of the black panther characters again, too.
there are some parts of it that i didn’t like when i first watched it, but i decided to wait until i watched endgame before picking at / thinking more deeply about them. after watching the sequel, though, my thoughts are pretty much the same.
thanos as the villain protagonist — it’s an intriguing way to tell the story, and i’m all for it in theory, but it ultimately doesn’t work for me. for him to work, i have to be able to empathize with him and understand his cause. i have to believe in him and his goal. he believes in what he’s doing, sure, but can i?
no. i can’t because literally what the fuck. the entire concept of “too many people in the world, not enough resources” is bullshit, and it doesn’t help that thanos’ thinking echoes that of malthus / ehrlich which is false and is also rooted in racism + classism. SO YOU KNOW... THAT’S COOL, I GUESS. it might be? asking too much of the writing to address thanos’ argument on a philosophical level, but just having the other heroes call him a “madman” all the time—! it kind of drove me nuts as i was watching because it doesn’t highlight the fundamental flaws of thanos’ thinking in the first place. it’s a good vs. evil story, it’s “not supposed to be that deep,” i get it, but it just really bothers me how this film reduces the overpopulation myth into “oh, he’s just crazy” because UH... there are actual people in the world who subscribe to thanos’ thinking as fact and, frankly, it’s dangerous to lay the argument out like that and not challenge it on a higher level.
there’s thanos’ thought process and then there’s just... thanos himself.
i’m supposed to feel for this guy? why? because he’s abused his daughters over and over again...? he even tortures nebula in this film???
which leads me to how he acquires the soul stone. to obtain it, you have to sacrifice someone you love. okay, i buy it, fine. but thanos loving gamora? what.
what the fuck. he abused her, he manipulated her—i??? sorry, that’s not love. gamora even says in the film, “this isn’t love,” and you know what?! SHE’S RIGHT. as far as i’m concerned, thanos shouldn’t have gotten the stone, and if the stone accepts him as its keeper just because he flings gamora off a cliff then the soul stone can go fuck itself.
in retrospect, the whole “fling your loved one off a cliff to get the soul stone” is dumb as hell, but i bought the concept while watching, so it’s fine, i guess.
whatever... he gets all the stones in the end... and then there’s the next movie.
ENDGAME
as i said before, i liked thanos’ death in the beginning. it’s unexpected and it made me curious as to where the movie would go from there.
after that, it’s a five year time skip.
when they mentioned time travel, i was excited! the film kind of drags to get to the actual time traveling, however. i get that it’s important to establish how it all works, etc. but BOY. does it take a while. i was shocked when i saw this movie would be 3 hrs. long, but now i kind of understand why.
the time travel is fine. i chuckled at don cheadle’s bit with the “why don’t we just strangle baby thanos” and that’s as much as i liked from this part of the film.
just... the way grief is addressed and handled here... what.
hawkeye. it’s one thing for the other avengers to be, “we don’t know where he is or what he’s been up to.” it’s another thing entirely for them to be aware of what he’s been doing and then DO NOTHING ABOUT IT FOR FIVE YEARS. just—what?! this isn’t a priority for them? natasha and the others are just fine with hawkeye killing people as a way of dealing with the loss of his family? and no, it doesn’t matter that those guys he’s slaughtering are criminals or whatever—because UH, and i can’t believe i have to say this: killing people is not a good way to deal with grief??? not to mention the others clearly recognize it as something very troubling themselves—and THEN THEY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. BECAUSE..... . . .. . WHY???
“i think we’re supposed to assume...” no, sorry. i’m not asking to have everything spelled out to me, but give me something. was hawkeye too hard to track (even though it seems they find him immediately in tokyo, but OKAY), were they too depressed over what happened, were they too scared to confront him—what was it that made them leave him like that for five years?
(don’t get me started on hawkeye in tokyo. yes, let’s just have him—a white man—slaughter japanese criminals because samurai swords are COOL and so is tokyo. fuck off. thanks for reminding me again just how diverse the main cast of this film is.)
it’s the same thing with thor. just... what?!
none of you wanted to reach out to him in the last five years and see how he’s been coping??? the people of new asgard were just... okay? with seeing him once a month? they were just okay??? knowing he was drowning himself in alcohol???!! what the fuck. like valkyrie is there in new asgard while all of this with thor is happening, what. WHAT.
it’s not like i expect hawkeye or thor or everyone else to be totally fine and dandy after all that’s happened, but it really irritates me how it seems like nobody’s tried to help or reach out to either of them in all these years. if they did, just imply it better???
moving on, it’s endearing to see thor power through his own misgivings and self-doubts during the movie, but those fat jokes can fuck off. because you know it’s not like REAL PEOPLE deal with depression or guilt or anxiety through food. it’s not like weight gain is a REAL LIFE thing that happens to people who are depressed or stressed or anything. YEAH, LET’S MAKE FUN OF HOW FAT HE IS BECAUSE HAHAHAHAHA FAT JOKES. FUCK YOU. at one point, thor reunites with his mother in the past, who literally recognizes his grief/emotions + mentions how the future hasn’t been kind to him, but HAHAHA DON’T FORGET TO HAVE HER MENTION HOW HE SHOULD EAT A SALAD BEFORE HE LEAVES.
it’s lazy humor, and that’s how i feel about most of endgame’s jokes. i think there were one or two moments that got a real laugh out of me and that’s it.
it just infuriates me how everyone else’s pain and anguish is allowed to be taken seriously, but not thor because HAHA HE’S SO FAT NOW. this picking on thor happens throughout the movie, and... it’s just been a LONG TIME since i was actively annoyed while watching a film, and even thinking about it now upsets me A LOT.
maybe i wouldn’t think the first portion of the film to be so slow if i enjoyed these different reunions, etc. but i was so worn down by the above points that i just wanted the time travel bit to start already so we could leave this behind and move on.
like i said before, i enjoyed traveling to older films, revisiting scenes, seeing different versions of the characters, etc. it’s really cool to see just how many people they brought back for endgame.
but natasha and hawkeye, though. what the fuck? WHAT THE FUCK?! THERE’S TWO PARTS TO THIS...
so... you have to sacrifice someone you love to get the soul stone. SACRIFICE... .. . . AS IN.. .. . WILLINGLY.. . . . SURRENDERING... SOMETHING... sorry but it looked like natasha fucking sacrificed herself instead of hawkeye sacrificing her? SHE KICKED OFF THE ROCK SO HE WOULD LET GO OF HER WHILE HE HIMSELF DIDN’T WANT TO LET GO. HOW IS THIS A REAL SACRIFICE OF A LOVED ONE??? NEITHER OF THEM WANTED TO GIVE UP EACH OTHER, NEITHER OF THEM WERE WILLING TO ACCEPT THE SACRIFICE THAT NEEDED TO BE MADE.
like thanos’ acquisition of the soul stone is bullshit because he didn’t truly love gamora but at least he willingly made that sacrifice. i mean, if you want an actual version of what the soul stone rule dictates, go back to infinity war with wanda and vision: they love each other and, in the end, despite her reluctance, wanda ultimately chooses to destroy the mind stone, sacrificing vision, because she knows thanos can’t have it!
also... UH, WHY NATASHA??? yeah, because i needed that again after gamora. because i needed that again after ALL THE OTHER DEAD DAUGHTERS OR WIVES OR WHATEVER + MAN PAIN, DELICIOUS MAN PAIN that happens in the other films. HAHA.
not to mention using the same shot on natasha as the one on gamora in infinity war—just a broken body lying in a pool of blood at the bottom of a cliff. cool, cool. not infuriating at all.
again, i like the time travel in this movie; it all makes sense. but i didn’t really get how evil!nebula was able to teleport thanos and his entire ship to the present...? i guess they engineered more of the particles they stole from good!nebula or something...?
finally, steve rogers. uhhh... i don’t think i would’ve minded his ending so much if the overall tone / message of the movie were more consistent...?
in the beginning, after the five year time skip, he’s at some kind of support group, and he says something like, “you need to try and take little steps, you have to move on” after all that has happened. that’s a powerful message, and it’s suitable for endgame.
the message is contradicted somewhat in the beginning, since the heroes choose to undo what thanos did. but throughout the film, the characters go back in time and revisit the past: past selves, past events, past mistakes—people of the past that are no longer with them in the future. eventually they all have to say goodbye and return to the present without them: move on, knowing and accepting that there’s some things that you can’t redo or change.
steve and peggy also address this concept in another captain america movie. they reunite, when she’s old and lying in bed, and she tells him basically the same thing he says in the support group...?
PEGGY (CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER) The world has changed, and none of us can go back. All we can do is our best. And sometimes the best that we can do is to start over.
this message pretty much speaks to the journey of most of the characters. thor with his mother, wanda with vision, hawkeye with natasha (ignoring how i hate how everything happened), etc.
but by going back in time and choosing to stay with peggy, it doesn’t seem like steve aligns with that message at all...? and it’s weird because he’s the one to bring it up in this movie—and it’s echoed in his other major films? so having steve ultimately not being able to move on from peggy and the life he could’ve lived is...??? it just seems to contradict endgame and everything else in it, and it’s just... weird to have the movie end like that. i’m not sure how i feel. it’s sweet, but... IDK. it feels very abrupt.
i enjoyed the big final battles of both movies, but the journey to get to those moments is just as important... and sometimes it’s a rocky one. anyways, i felt very mixed / frustrated after watching endgame, and writing all of this down helped. i’ll probably delete it all later.

Avengers Endgame (spoilers)
So yeah I saw endgame last night and it was really good, it didn’t feel like over 3 hours at all. It made me cry a lot and it has made me think about getting the blurays to the films ones day, either the phase 1,2,3 (and 4 if there is one) or one huge collective one of the films up to now.
I have some points I’d like to make, some good, some bad:
I was really shocked how little screen time Carol got, like she was in the posters and trailers but barely in it, I get after going on the tags that it was a movie focused on the original 6 because some were leaving and she is now part of the new generation so she’s gonna be in future films but I would have liked a bit more, especially in the final fight. Also seeing her with short hair wow!! She has short hair in the comics right? I’m thinking of seeing captain Marvel again if its still in cinema friday since I don’t start till 4 so I could see it before then, I did enjoy cm but I think it missed something to tip it over the edge, I don’t know what but maybe seeing it again I’ll have a different opinion. And also no fury/carol scene???
Wanda!!!!! my baby, my wife I missed her so much and seeing her kick arse was fucking amazing, I was quietly cheering when she came back and showing how fucking powerful she is, almost killing Thanos herself if he wasn’t a baby and made that call (same with Carol she almost killed him but he chickened and did the power stone thing). And seeing her talk to Clint at the funeral. I can’t wait for her tv show and to see her again. And I’m gonna be gay for a second and say with Vision gone can she have a girlfriend now XD I would love to see her and Carol interact.
Seeing Valkyrie again was so awesome I wasn’t sure if she was in it but so happy to see her again, again short time but what we got was good and hope to see her in another film. Plus seeing her on the peagasus was cool also.
That all girl team scene, looovveeedd ittttt I wish it was longer though like three times as long since we see more of the guys fighting and not enough of these incredible women, I hope one day we get to see an all female team film, that would be fucking great. But not seeing Natasha in that was really sad, but I’ve seen posts where they spoke that Natasha paved the way for these girls to be here, now she’s passed the torch over the them, still it didn’t feel the same, maybe if they mentioned her that would have done it. I love it, but it was missing her.
The funny moments like seeing Thor overweight, the american ass scene, when Steve fought himself and baby Scott. When Carol met Peter and Peter met Valkyrie. There were so many good moments especially with the o6, since we wouldn’t be seeing them again.
Steve and Thor’s hammer, that was super cool and I wasn’t expecting that, neither the audience. I’m guessing it has happened in the comics though but really seeing him use the hammer and his shield was really cool, I’m not fond of CA but he was alright in this film actually.
I wasn’t expecting the whole go back in time and get the stones story plot, I thought the whole thing was just going to be finding Thanos and getting the stones but after like 15 mins when Thor killed Thanos it’s like...oh..so to get this plot of them going back in time to points in past films was really great and giving the fans a look back at where they were to where they are now.
I really like the avengers past scene, like when they captured Loki and Clint and Natasha got a drink, and Hulk having to take the stairs, I really loved that scene, Avengers is a film I’ve seen maybe four or five times which is rare for me since I pretty much only see a film once unless I really like it (or need to see it before the next one as a refresher) there was just something about it that really made it great.
The fact that five years had gone, I was thinking there might have been a timeskip but not that much, like seeing Natasha trying everything to not show how broken she was before she spoke to Steve, god I can’t imagine, I thought there might have been because of her hair but not that much. Cassie being older I don’t know if the actress just looks older but I’ve been looking up and Cassie would have been 10 in Antman and Wasp so she would be 15/16 in endgame, she just looks older to me. And with Peter and his friends, how does that work with school? their in the same year right? like school year?
The whole Gamora thing...I wasn’t expecting that and I’m not sure what’s going to happen now. With GOTG 3 does this mean it’s going to focus on finding her? And will Nebula be with her or them, I can’t remember if she was on the ship at the end I think she was. I just wanna say I’m happy for Karen getting such a huge job in this like she was in endgame a lot and being a dr who fan I’m happy she got this role and for her to be succeeding.
There are probs more things I can mention if I remember but you know what I need to mention, who left. I was expecting Steve to die at least, what happened to him I’m happy, it was so good to see Peggy again since I really enjoyed the Agent Carter show before they canceled it, it was a beautiful way to end his story. He went back and replaced the stones and decided he wanted the life he wanted even if it meant leaving everyone behind. It was a nice send off for him and him giving the shield to his friend was great. Maybe my opinion on Steve will change when I watched the past films again I don’t know but yeah he got his happy ending.
Tony.....well I fucking cried when he died, I wasn’t expecting it because I only thought Steve would and when it happened oh man seeing him after the snap like just out of it and Pepper being with him, when she said they would be okay and he can go, yeah that did it for me. He got the life he wanted, he got a daughter but he’s not gonna see her grow and I feel bad for them, but seeing how he was from the first iron man film to now how he’s changed. And using that I am iron man line that was fantastic. I didn’t want him to die, retire and go somewhere yeah but not die, but he did save everyone and it had to be someone. His legacy will live on.
What I wasn’t fucking expecting was to see Natasha die...like...when I saw that scene I was in shock, I think I got teary but not full blown because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, like it didn’t hit me till after the film finished that she was truly gone. I felt terrible for her because she sacrificed herself for her family, she didn’t have a family like Clint or Tony had, she didn’t have the best childhood and did many things she probs wasn’t proud of but for her to sacrifice herself so everyone could come back and her family can reunite was so sad like, she never got to be happy like finding someone to love and adopt some kids of her own and relax, she didn’t get an ending like Steve, and she didn’t get a death scene like Tony. I think that’s why it shocked me because it was so sudden and I just thought she was just going to come back once everything returned. And after reading some tumblr posts it really made me realise how if it wasn’t for her we may not have the female characters we have now, she started that and gave us the girls we have now. And its even more incredible sad she never got to be part of the final fight, that’s what really annoyed me, she didn’t get to be part of that all girl scene, didn’t see them won, or see them come back. I felt like she didn’t get the ending she deserved but given and ending she had to have because they needed someone to sacrifice. Natasha is one of line of girls who helped me realise I’m gay and now there are girls that are continuining that line not just in marvel but everywhere. I kinda pulled her to the side once Wanda came but seeing Endgame made me think how she meant to me then and when I rewatch the films I won’t forget it. When they announced they were finally doing the Black Widow film I said how I wanted a Wanda Maximoff film instead, but now after watching Endgame I can’t wait for it, one final send off from her.
I think that’s everything really, I look forward to the next generation of films and characters, hoping for more lgbtq+ representation and everything, bringing me more girls to love and future films to enjoy. This was quite a ride, I wish I was more invested in Marvel, but maybe I can look into the comics and try a few :) Thanks for these long years o6 and heres to the future.

If you've watched it yet, what are your thoughts on WandaVision? If you haven't, have a good evening and I hope your weekend gives you a chance to relax!
I did a full rewatch recently! I actually watched it more or less as it came out last year -- I think I watched the first five episodes at once, then the others as they came out. I went in...mostly blind, tbh? Before last year I hadn't kept up with the MCU since 2014 (I had only seen three MCU films that came out after TWS, which was when I more-or-less topped watching); I'd never actually seen Wanda or Vision in anything, which was an interesting way to experience it for sure, but I am really good at putting contextual clues together to work out previous occurrences. I don't have super strong feelings about Wanda or Vision as characters and I also don't necessarily have very strong feelings about it as part of the MCU or whatever Phase Four's Plan is. (I suspect with Phase Four I'm going to need to see the whole thing to figure out how I feel about it as a whole.)
But I did enjoy it a lot. I think it did some really clever things; it was explicable to me as someone who was barely familiar with any of the characters involved, which, considering the MCU, is not a given. I think it will be interesting to see what happens from there (which is kind of a Phase Four problem, tbh, it's not unique to WV). It did make me care about the characters and I'm pretty sure I cried a couple of times (I cry at everything, though). I'm really impressed by how well they hit the specific speech/environment tones for each sitcom decade, especially once we got into the eras that I am familiar from growing up with them ('90s and '00s); that was very definitely, like, full body sudden flashback. I don't have like really serious thoughts on it because I don't really care strongly about anyone involved and it does kind of feel like set-up (which is a huge Phase Four problem), but I liked it and I'd watch it again.
also a friend of mine actually consulted on the Latin for Agatha's flashback -- way back in the Before Times, someone from the production staff e-mailed the classics department at my university asking for help and included some truly terrible Google Translate Latin and my friend (who was a VAP at the time) and at least one other prof in the department changed it to make it accurate, so that Latin: it's accurate. When that episode aired, Disney sent them a bunch of WandaVision swag. (I don't think they're actually credited, because I've gone through the credits for that ep a few times and I've never seen their names.) So...that happens when you live in Atlanta, where Marvel does a bunch of their production. I have soft spot for WandaVision for that reason. (Ant-Man and the Wasp also filmed at my university, and Hawkeye filmed at the university I'm adjuncting at right now. Loki somewhat infamously filmed at the Marriott Marquis downtown. A number of other Marvel films have been filming here -- I think Black Panther 2 is right now but not around where I am -- but those are the ones who have filmed in places I've been. Well, the infamous airport fight in CACW too. Hashtag just Atlanta things lol.)

MCU Rewatch: “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018)
Ebony Maw is, like, the worst. He’s just such a sycophant to Thanos, and a real sucker for the ideology, a flatterer. Believe me his death was very satisfying.
I just hate how Thanos pretends to sympathize with his victims. Thanos is an a++ creeper
Thor is just suffering this entire film and it hurts to watch
Loki’s death: I think Loki knew he didn’t stand a chance with his butterknife. there had better be a good reason that this is how it went down because
“You consider failure experience? I consider experience experience.” This is totally Loki BSing but this is actually kind of a good perspective to have about life’s little misfortunes.
Are the stones connected to Thanos himself? Through the gauntlet? Does that connection grow?
Considering that Vision was feeling the Mind Stone acting up in his forehead I think the Infinity Stones are connected and the Gauntlet only amplifies the connection.
The only good explanation for the Soul Stone giving itself to Thanos is that the Infinity Stones are Sentient and Evil. It’s a stretch to justify Thanos somehow sincerely having love for a daughter he spent years abusing. IMO it’s plausible, but it’s a stretch
If any of the Asgardians survived and escaped Thanos’ assault, Marvel owed us footage of that
I think the reason that Gamora’s backstory was changed was because showing her parents being killed in front of her would have been more violent and more terrifying for the audience. It also would not have lent itself to demonstrating Gamora and Thanos’ relationship. But it still could have been done a certain way to make it less disturbing and had the same effect.
Tony got at least the idea for Nanotech from Wakanda.
“No more surprises, I promise.” *Doctor Strange shows up* To be fair, that surprise was unplanned
Tony Stark needs to be in control because he is scared. It was true in Age of Ultron and Civil War and it is true now.
I don’t think Ned heard a word of what Peter said on the bus
Spider-man showing up out of nowhere during the fight against Maw and saving Tony’s butt is such a great entrance, I’m so grateful we have Tom Holland as Spider-man in the MCU
Doctor Strange in his own movie was pretty cool, but Doctor Strange at his full powers in Infinity War is MIND-BLOWINGLY AWESOME
Tony built the IronSpider suit because he just KNEW that something bad would happen and the suit that Peter was already using wouldn’t be enough.
Bruce’s struggle against the reluctant Hulk is sad but it’s hilarious
The GOTG entrance is RAD, it’s the raddest thing about the whole movie, the Guardians of the Galaxy are the grooviest thing since ever
Also their reaction to Thor is straight-up hilarious
Really, Thor, why didn’t you just stop to hang out? Do you really need a Thanos-killing weapon that badly?
okay maybe he does
Rocket will regret leaving his friends so brusquely
Vision disguised as human in public is everything
If the WandaVision TV show isn’t as cool as their fight in Edinburgh I don’t want to watch it
Vision might be badly injured for most of the film but he is not a helpless damsel in distress and he won’t go down without a fight, and that increases my respect for him so much more
but on the other hand, if they can get the Mind Stone out of Vision’s forehead w/o killing him, they should. There’s no reason for him to die. C’mon, bro, don’t be a doormat. You’re a person and you have value! How many times have you said that about other people? At least twice in my fanfiction.
What other thoughts did Vision have about the Mind Stone? I’m intrigued. No, scratch that, I’m beyond intrigued.
Star-lord needed a better plan for confronting Thanos on Knowhere
“Swear to me on your mother.” Gamora knows how much PeterQ’s mother meant to him, she knows how much he’s never recovered from her death, she wouldn’t have made him take that oath unless it was serious
I remember the first time I saw IW, seeing the Red Skull as the guardian of the Soul Stone SHOOK me
Also he refers to the ‘stones’ plural--Schmidt KNEW!
Peter Parker pays attention to popular film and culture in ways that matter--like, that’s where he gets ideas for how to do things. He’s good to have around
Stephen Strange should have called out Tony for wanting to run from the other Avengers for personal reasons, that was at least one factor on him deciding to go to Titan
Is it just me or is Tony Stark the first person to actually refer to Doctor Strange as “Doctor”?
Nebula :’( :’( :’(
I have issues with the Stormbreaker arc but really though the scene with Rocket and Thor talking it out is so good
I think Thor, to an extent, is faking his anger, or at least using it to mask his sadness. he doesn’t need revenge he needs a hug and a blanket--I mean not that the universe isn’t at stake if Thanos isn’t stopped but yeah man. He was actually crying while he was talking to Rocket
Rocket probably thinks Thor’s family is pretty messed up and he’s absolutely right
You may have thought after the first GOTG movie that Rocket’s thing with prosthetics was a joke, but no, it’s pretty serious
Peter apologizing to Stark and Strange in advance in case he lays eggs in either of them was actually a pretty good thing to do. It’s something I would do.
How hard did the story development team have to work to find a part for Peter Dinklage?
Whas Okoye being sarcastic about the Starbucks comment? Is she really happy about the Avengers being there or Wakanda’s new foreign policy period?
Oh Bucky <3 <3 <3
Proxima Midnight is FIERCE #femalevillaingoals
“You are in Wakanda now. Thanos will how nothing but dust and blood.” How prophetic.
Ieitri has known Thor for a while. Probably since Thor was a kid.
Nat’s face when Thor shows up in Wakanda: “Would’ve been nice if you showed up ten minutes ago.”
I don’t think Wanda needed to be with Vision for his surgery. If she had stayed out in the battlefield the Avengers and the Wakandan army might have stood a better chance. But then Idk who would have protected Vision so...
The Titan team’s plan to snare Thanos was pretty good, but it would have actually worked if they’d given Quill a job for after they tied him up
Sam and Rhodey teamwork--I’m here for it. Wish we’d gotten more of that instead of Civil War. Heck, I need a Sam and RHODEY tv show!
I love how Bruce Banner finds his moxie
Why did the one guard put Nebula back together? If he knew that Nebula was so bent on killing Thanos why did he do that? Would Thanos have ordered that?
Nebula must have gone to find Gamora and warn her that Thanos was ready to make his move sometime before Ragnarok happened.
How much did Thanos know about Sutur and Ragnarok? Was he watching?
Plot hole explanation: Loki took the throne and withdrew Asgard’s troops from its territories, Thanos came to Nidavellir and ordered the gauntlet made. You’re welcome.
Wait, no, Loki withdrawing Asgard’s troops also paved the way for Thanos to attack Xandar also--Loki was trying to protect himself but instead he gave Thanos free reign to collect the stones
(if they’ve had a couple of years since Ronan attacked, though, shouldn’t they have rebuilt some of their military by then?)
Seriously, Wanda, way to go sister.
Even if Thanos can’t die without getting his head cut off he can still get hurt pretty badly with the right weapon and I don’t think that’s a fact to be ignored.
Okoye’s face when T’challa turns into dust before her eyes. Then her watching the Decimation as it happens around her, she’s ready to CRY, she is TERRIFIED

#WandaVision. About a week before the PH premiere of Dr. Strange 2: Multiverse of Madness, it's only fitting to rewatch this masterpiece for a quick refresher. Looking back, I wasn't really invested in Wanda nor Vision prior to the series because they had minor parts to play in the films apart from Civil War and Infinity War. But rewatching this series, it reminded me how and why I fell in love with Wanda. Origin Story of the Scarlet Witch. It humanized Wanda and not just how powerful she is. Her personality, emotions, character, her entire being, and of course, her grief -- now that she's one of the few remaining Avengers, it was necessary to establish who she is and why she matters to the greater universe. So they did and with magic!! Agatha Harkness. I've only read about her from theories and later on from research, but it really was Kathryn Hahn's portrayal that made all the difference. She played the perfect nosy neighbor who was all over Wanda and Vision's business. This really added to the show's charm. And that killer Agatha All Along is such a bop! The Monica-Jimmy-Darcy chemistry. It's a breath of fresh air to see characters plucked from their own franchise in one show. Surprisingly, they had such wonderful chemistry. Monica's determination, Darcy's brains and sarcastic humor, and Jimmy's sassiness -- they just work so well together. Can we have a spinoff already? The overall execution. It was a bold move to adapt sitcoms through the years at this scale but it was enlightening. What's more impressive is the risk that Marvel took in running such an ambitious experiment. True enough, the payoff was unimaginable. The entry point to the Multiverse Saga. From one ambition to another, we now look at three things simultaneously -- WandaVision, Loki, and Spiderman: No Way Home. This is why it's a must to watch these leading up to Dr. Strange 2. Also, the children. Young Avengers, anyone? Lastly, the script. Defining grief and love, who Vision is to Wanda, and how he transformed from a voice to a memory made real. It's these moments that did it for me. Maybe another watch will do before the big day. WandaVision remains to be my #1 MCU series. 10/10 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc0VXfYv_Fx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What If…? Episode 5 Review: Magnificent Marvel Zombie Chaos
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This review contains spoilers for Marvel’s What If…? episode 5.
Episode 5 of Marvel’s What If…?, entitled ‘What If…Zombies!?’, is a tremendously fun half hour of television, and is also likely to be a really good time for fans of the Marvel Zombies comics.
The installment is packed with laughs and shocking moments, using classic zombie tropes to keep some of the best and most underrated MCU characters on their toes while maintaining an enviable pace as it throws one wild scenario after another at them.
As you may know by now if you’ve been reading our weekly What If…? reviews, they’re adopting a slightly different format. More of a breakdown that we hope will satisfy die-hard Marvel fans but also help younger viewers and those less familiar with the MCU keep up.
Alright! Now, let’s dig into ‘What If…Zombies!?’, which ponders what would have happened if Janet van Dyne had contracted a terrible virus during her time in the Quantum Realm.
Required viewing
It helps to have seen all the MCU movies leading up to Avengers: Infinity War, but perhaps Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Panther and the first two Ant-Man films are the most essential watches. There are also a fair few gut punches for any WandaVision fans in the building, and whomst amongst us is not?
Voice cast
Our Watcher Uatu is of course Jeffrey Wright, Chadwick Boseman is T’Challa/Black Panther, Paul Rudd is Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Mark Ruffalo is Bruce Banner/Hulk, Evangeline Lily is Hope van Dyne/Wasp, Sebastian Stan is Bucky Barnes, Paul Bettany is Vision, Jon Favreau is Happy Hogan, Danai Gurira is Okoye, Emily VanCamp is Sharon Carter, David Dastmalchian is Kurt, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor is Ebony Maw.
The missing voice here is Tom Holland. Musician and Mad Men actor Hudson Thames fills in as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in episode 5.
What’s different?
Bruce Banner in Hulk form returns to Earth via the Bifröst just as he did at the start of Avengers: Infinity War, but this time when he crashes down into the Sanctum Sanctorum he finds Iron Man, Wong and Doctor Strange already turned into flesh-eating zombies.
Bruce is thankfully saved by Hope van Dyne and her swarm of ants, and Peter Parker whisks him off while we get some helpful exposition.
In this universe, Hank Pym’s Ant-Man and the Wasp journey to the Quantum Realm to retrieve his long-lost wife Janet went badly wrong when he found her infected by a quantum zombie brain virus upon his arrival. When she returned, Janet started gnawing on everything within reach and the virus spread like wildfire, quickly infecting millions. Cap, Widow, Hawkeye, Iron Man and Black Panther apparently set out with arguably the worst Cap plan ever to turn back the tide, and disappeared under a pile of hungry zombies.
Banner finds himself among the last of the still-human holdouts. Bucky Barnes, Okoye and Sharon Carter are tracking a signal from Camp Lehigh that may or may not provide a solution to the zombie problem. Along with Happy Hogan and Kurt (who I still don’t think has a last name), the gang forge a loose, Train to Busan-y mission to try and reach Camp Lehigh.
Unfortunately, they are attacked by numerous familiar faces before they set out, and Happy is turned into a zombie, further dampening Peter’s hopes for a W. They eventually get aboard a train, but Zombie Cap climbs on and Bucky has to fight him, which leads to a small sliver of time with Bucky as Cap when he nabs his shield.
Hope gets infected, but helps the rest of the gang get to Camp Lehigh, where they find Vision experimenting with the Mind Stone, and Scott and T’Challa still alive (to varying degrees). Okoye realizes they can use Vision’s research to cure the zombie population, but only from Wakanda where the tech they need could be easily constructed.
Vision’s base turns out to be a bit of a trap. He’s been luring people there to feed a contained – and admittedly extremely cool-looking – Zombie Wanda, as he couldn’t bear to lose her (gulp). His guilt gets the better of him when his friends are attacked by Wanda, and T’Challa, Peter and Scott Lang’s head escape Camp Lehigh and fly to Wakanda while Banner Hulks out and attacks the hoard.
How does it work out?
Oof, not good. Earth seems utterly screwed. Scott is still a head in a jar being supportively cuddled by The Cloak of Levitation, T’Challa is missing a leg, Peter is clinging on to his last shred of hope, and the safe haven of Wakanda plays host to an Infinity Gauntlet-wielding zombie Thanos. Yikes.
Standout moments
There were so many fantastic moments in episode 5 that it will probably require a rewatch or two to catch them all!
First, I’ve gotta give a shout-out to the The Cloak of Levitation. It really is the gift that keeps on giving – kind of like the MCU’s version of a silent movie star. That thing has surely saved the day as many times as the Avengers by now, and it asks for nothing in return. The Cloak of Levitation always knows the assignment, and always delivers.
You’ll be unsurprised to learn that I also loved Peter’s glorious zombie training video, which started off with a distinct Mutant Enemy-esque ident. What a smorgasbord of joy! Kurt’s ketchup-squirting special effects, Bucky listed as “silent but deadly”, Happy forced to wear a custom Thor shirt of questionable origin. This instructional clip had everything, didn’t it?
Peter’s struggle to keep hope alive in the zombie apocalypse is an arc that has almost certainly been pulled from Philip Kennedy Johnson’s spectacular Marvel Zombies: Resurrection run, and it’s just as affecting in this episode as it was in the pages of Marvel Comics. Peter can always be relied upon to maintain his earnest spirit until the bitter end.
Both Kurt and Happy were terrific additions in this episode. Happy’s insistence on yelling “blam!” every time he used the repulsor glove reminded me of Ewan McGregor’s behind the scenes Star Wars: The Phantom Menace story, where he admitted that he made lightsaber noises out loud when he was filming. Apparently, McGregor did it so much that the post-production crew ended up having to edit in louder lightsaber sounds to cover it all up.
Of course, the continuing heartbreak of Vision and Wanda’s relationship was once again ready to twist the emotional knife. In WandaVision, Wanda couldn’t help but use her Chaos Magic to keep Vision around after his death, but here we see that Vision arguably went to more disturbing lengths to contain a zombified Wanda. It was even hard to cope with the monstrous Wanda finding Vision’s lifeless body, and yet Marvel still refuses to pay for my therapy.
See you again next week!

[Semi-spoiler ish] Steve Rogers and Thoughts of Peggy Carter in Avengers Infinity War
Um... It's not that much of a spoiler, more of a realization after watching the film a second time. If you haven't seen the film yet... It's best to just skip this or come back later.
BUT PLEASE IF YOU'VE WATCHED... ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A STEGGY FAN, DISCUSS THIS WITH ME.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
After rewatching the movie, I realized something about Steve Rogers and probably what was going through his mind at one point.
In the movie, one of the dillemma is keeping the mind stone away from Thanos.
Vision realizes that the best way to do so is to destroy it and the only one who could is Wanda.
They debate, with Wanda saying that it's too high a price.
It's something I didn't notice at first watch... probably due to excitement but upon second viewing this was a more painful scene than I realized.
Now, what I noticed is that the cameras kept panning to Steve Rogers in this scene even though he didn't have anything to say. About 2 or 3 times.
I am pretty sure that the reason for this is because Steve Rogers is remembering the sacrifice he made. The situation that Wanda and Vision are in now is the same situation he and Peggy were in 70 years ago. The parallels must have been running in his mind.
Peggy had to let him go too.
He looked sad, broken, then resolute in the shots where the focus should be on Wanda and Vision.
And the following lines affirm this when Cap says "We don't trade lives" and Vision retorts with a question of how is what he's doing different from what Steve did 70 years ago.
Anyway, I'll stop here.
But that's damn fine writing and cinema work right there and good acting too on Chris' part.
To know the motivations and background and inspirations of a character in a movie with this many characters...that's something that can only be possible in the MCU and with all the fans that follow it.
I don't want to speculate about what this means for Avengers 4... if Peggy will somehow be there. I lost hope on that. But Marvel would be really off key and stupid if they just continue to shove aside Peggy Carter the way that they have been doing. Peggy Carter still matters and Marvel is really treating her character unfairly.
Looking at all this as a continuation of the previous avenger film especially with Steve's hallucination/vision, it makes sense.
And damn right it should. The point of the MCU is for all these different cogs of the machine to make sense together. If the MCU fails to make it cohesive, there's no point and it is failing.
And so, finally, just a side note... for Cap's story this makes sense as the end game.
But to me...Civil War kinda blew it and marred it with the Staron thing.
Bucky Barnes was his only tie to the past he left behind. I really don't get why they couldn't just support 2 guys having a deep friendship and bond and just let the Stucky fans be. They really had to shot that idea down in favor of a big NO HOMO sign at the price of a character's integrity.
Oh well, at the end of the day, I didn't really feel that bad at first viewing of IW but after seeing the nuance in this scene, my heart hurt a little more than it should. :(

Marvel asks: All of them! Sorry, can't choose! ^^'
AAAAARRRGGHHHH!!!  Well that’ll larn me!
Marvel asks
Tony Stark: favorite movie?
Close call; I’m very fond of “Avengers Assemble”, “Thor” and “CA:TWS”, but the one that has wowed me the most of all was “Black Panther”, which took everything to a new level of brilliance.
Drax: what character would you wanna be friends with?
I’m going to make this “characterS” and say Jane Foster, Aunt May, and General Okoye.  A lot of my other faves probably wouldn’t be so easy to be friends with (too prickly, messed-up, hyper-focussed, downright dangerous, etc) but I would love to be mates with these three!
Valkyrie: favorite director?
Ryan Coogler, no question!
Pepper Potts: top 3 fave characters
Ugh, very hard to choose!  Most of our protagonists are pretty cool, in their different ways.  Let’s pick three of the women; Okoye, Gamora, Natasha.  But I could just as easily have said Nakia, Hope and Hawkeye.  Or Rocket, Groot and Shuri.  Or...
Yeah, very hard to choose.
Sam Wilson: funniest scene?
Unlike a lot of people I loathed the relentless humour in “Ragnarok”.  So I’m going to say, Sam and Cap’s first meeting in TWS, which is gentle and kind, and character-driven.
And (although it’s rather sick humour) “He’s adopted” is very funny.
Bucky Barnes: most heartbreaking moment?
The bit in TWS when the pilots try to take off and provide air support and are shot down before they can get to their planes.  Reduces me to tears every time.
Nakia: character you wish had a bigger role?
I want to see more of Shuri!
Rocket Racoon: best nickname?
I don’t think I know the scripts well enough!  “Legolas”, possibly?
Natasha Romanoff: favorite ass kicking scene?
Another one that’s very hard to choose.
Natasha’s first scene, maybe, when she’s barefoot and unarmed and still beats the shit out of half a dozen brawny guys.  It’s such a great use of an action scene to establish character.  I also love her fight with possessed!Hawkeye.
But on the other hand, the Dora Milje’s team fighting style is unbelievably awesome...
Ned Leeds: favorite villain?
Killmonger, no contest.  He’s rounded, believable, well-motivated, and even though you know he’s wrong you empathise with him.  Masterclass in how to write a top-notch antagonist.
I also really liked Toomes/Vulture in “Spiderman Homecoming”.  Again, because he had good motivation and was an interesting rounded character, not a cardboard “I wanna rule/destroy the world >snarl snarl
Bruce Banner: guardians or avengers?
For sheer fun, Guardians.  But I’m enjoying seeing them all meet up!
Thor Odinson: most attractive character?
Still Hawkeye.  Give me those Renner arms.
Gamora: favorite pairing?
As in Ship?  T’Challa/Nakia, and Gamora/Peter Q.
As in Best mates?  Rocket & Groot, Peggy & Jarvis, and Peter P & Ned.
Mantis: what do you think will happen in Avengers 4?
I’m with @hanorganaas on this; it’ll have to involve time travel in some form, to bring back at least some of those lost.  Also I have it on good authority from @spectralarchers that Hawkeye will come back as Ronin.  And clearly a certain Carol Danvers is going to be involved.
There’ll be an opening section where the traumatised survivors are trying to regroup in a shattered world.  Somehow or other the script will have to contrive another “lowest ebb” moment even lower than the end of “Infinity War” (& I don’t envy the people tasked with that!) because that’s how script dynamics work.  But ultimately the big purple knob-head will be defeated.
Shuri: most rewatched movie?
Either “Avengers assemble” or “Guardians of the Galaxy”; I haven’t kept count, but they are the ones I go back to for a happy evening slobbed out in front of the telly with a big bag of tortilla chips.
Peter Parker: best outfit/suit?
As a Superhero Suit, I love the Ant-man suit!
As actual wearable clothes, I’d like to have Gamora’s leathers, especially the red coat; practical and sexy.
Happy Hogan: what ‘superpower’ is the coolest?
Well, I’ve always wanted to be able to fly, so any of the superpowers that give you that would be great!
I also love the way Mantis’ abilities take something that culturally is just expected of “nice good girls” (being empathetic, reading others emotions and reactions, being able to soothe down even the most aggressive person) and make it a fucking superpower!
Aunt may: most painful death?
After those brave pilots in TWS?  Pietro.  Really didn’t see that one coming.
Pietro Maximoff: Peter Quill or Peter Parker?
Aww, don’t make me chose!  Quill is so cute!
I was never a Peter Parker fan until Tom Holland but now - ok, Peter Parker.
Heimdall: would you like a Deadpool crossover?
Properly done, then hell yeah!  But it would need a very, very good script to juggle the emotional/tonal switchbacks required.
Steve Rogers: who resembles their role the most?
From what we get to see as fans?  I’d have to go with Chris Evans.
Rhodey: who resembles their role the least?
Karen Gillan certainly doesn’t sound much like Nebula!
T’challa: favorite non-romantic pairing?
I’ve already suggested a couple of Best-mates relationships; so how about some siblings?  Gamora and Nebula; so much tension, so much anger and yet so much torn, blood-soaked loyalty.  It’s just as interesting a dynamic as the one between Thor and Loki, with a lot less screentime than that has had.
I also liked the sibling loyalty and love between Wanda and Pietro.  Always good to see a happy sibling relationship, when Screenwriting 101 would have it that only sibling rivalry is interesting...
Peter Quill: favorite place in the mcu?
That’s going to be a tie between Know-where, for the visuals, and Wakanda, for - well, everything really.
Loki laufeyson: best line/quote?
Ugh, there have been a lot of great lines.  Right now, I’m going to go with Okoye’s “For Wakanda?  Without question.”  Such a fantastic use of a single line to cement how her character is the embodiment of honour.
Scott Lang: do you think you’d have died in the snap?
Hmm.  I kind of hope I would, to be honest; life afterwards is going to be spectacularly hellish until they manage to fix it.
Stephen strange: favorite song used?
The opening of “Guardians of the Galaxy”, with Quill slogging through the rain and then putting on “Come and get your love” on his walkman and starting to dance.  Just gorgeous; as a sequence, as framing, as a way of telling us something about him very economically, as a device to show us this is going to be a hell of a fun ride...
Phil Coulson: the moment you fell in love with your favorite character?
Seeing as I find it impossibly difficult to pick a favourite in the first place, this is one I can’t answer!
Okoye: which movies did you see in cinema?
All of them bar the first two “Iron Man” films.
Maria Hill: favorite special credits?
What, as in “Mr Evans’ marmalade sandwiches made by” kind of thing?  I’m not sure I pay enough attention to the credits to have ever noticed one (I made that one up, needless to say).
Or are “special credits” like cameos?  A nod to the mourners for Yondu, then.
Erik Killmonger: favorite press moment/interview
Way back during the press tour for “Avengers assemble”; a journalist asked RDJ in-depth questions on Tony’s motivation and development, and then only asked Scarlett Johansson some ridiculous thing about her diet; and instead of answering with a patient smile she called him out on it.
It was only, what, five years ago, yet it was almost unheard-of then for a female actor to bite back publically like that.  And the good thing is, that already seems pretty extraordinary.
Wanda Maximoff: favorite relationship of the actors?
I don’t know enough about their relationships to have one, really.
Nebula: favorite minor character?
Luis.  An “ordinary person” character who is highly likeable in his own right and who does the right thing even when he knows it’s bloody dangerous & could get him killed.  For similar reasons I’m also very fond of Cameron Klein and Dr Helen Cho.
Vision: Steve with or without a beard?
Without, definitely.  Not a great fan of beards to be honest.  There’s the odd face that looks great with one (thinking of a certain Mexican actor and rare fern collector) but mostly they’re just fashionable face-fur.
Nick Fury: what actor would you like to see join the mcu and for what role?
On one level, I’m content to wait and see what they come up with.  I’m not a comic-reader, so I know almost nothing about any of the characters until they appear in the MCU, which makes dream-casting any of them pretty difficult.
On the other hand, I did read a rumour that John Boyega is in line for a future role; and as I’m a huge fan of his I would love for that to be true!
Hope Van Dyne: expectations for ‘Captain Marvel’?
As a non-comics person, I don’t know anything about the character or her story.  Hopefully we’ll get an interesting, well-rounded female lead with solid motivation and her plot-line isn’t primarily about a) a man or b) not being able to have children.  Or c) her children being dead.
Groot: I am Groot?
We are Groot.
Grandmaster: which characters would you like to see interact more?
Shuri with all the scientists!
Peggy Carter: Hulk or Banner?
Both.  Both is good.
Luis: favorite Chris?
I’m sure they’re all lovely chaps.
Michelle Jones: would you like a Black Widow movie?
I’d like to see lots of the female characters get stand-alone films.  So, yes please to a “Black Widow” movie, but also, hmm, let’s see; how about a “Shuri and Jane Foster Science the Shit Out Of This Mess” movie?  A “Peggy Carter and the early days of SHIELD” movie?  A “Nakia the Super-spy” movie?
Sif: long hair Thor or short hair Thor?
Long hair.  Markedly more appealing with long hair.
Jane Foster: favorite character development?
I love the way Steve Rogers’ story kind-of goes in cycles of effort and hope and bitter experience, and always comes back round to situations where he affirms who he essentially is.  It’s good to see a non-liner pattern of development like that, which is much closer to how real people deleop and change, instead of the standard narrative “A to B” model like Dr Strange (”was a jerk, learned to do better” - okay, he saves the world, so that’s good; but as for development, pish).
Yondu: favorite after-credit scene?
The Shawarma joint.
Also Hope seeing the Wasp suit for the first time.
Wong: favorite marvel intro?
Not sure I pay that much attention to the intros, tbh.  I’m just sitting there thinking “Give me the story, folks!”
Thank you for asking! - and thank you, if you’ve had the patience to slog through all this, for reading!
