Chapter 1 Act 7: Duo in Disarray

(August 2, 5 days until launch)

For 3 days,GG remained in his coma, stuck drifting in the dark, inky depths of his own subconscious. Only now however,has he managed to open his eyes, within his mind anyway, but what he saw was no different to when they were shut, nothing. “ugh.. What happened?” GG groaned, receiving no answer as he began to take in his surroundings, “oh, that’s right..” he muttered to himself as he started to remember, “I fucked up, now i’m stuck here” he continued with a sigh

For a moment, he just floated there, pondering upon his actions, all the mistakes he made and wondering, is this the end?...

Suddenly, a blinding light appeared in front of GG, as he stared into it, he saw something that looked beautiful, something that felt familiar to him. But before he could figure out what exactly it was, the light began to fly away

“Hey, wait!” GG cried out, but then he noticed something as the spark kept fleeing, a path illuminated below him, wasting no time he ran to chase this hopeful spark, but as he sprinted, he noticed that his powers refused to work,but GG didn’t have time to try and force them out again, even without it, he was able to keep up with the fleeting glow, barely

Meanwhile, Terry was marching profusely,rarely stopping to take breaks unless absolutely necessary, despite the chunk of his map that had been torn off, he could still understand enough of the path he needed to but he was also well aware that he couldn’t get to the jungle in time on foot alone,he needed find some way of fixing his jetpack, he continually grew more and more desperate as he continued his search, eventually, he found some form of civilization, a trailer park

While from a distance it appeared empty, Terry could tell from the steadily-growing sound of music blaring from a boombox along with the smell of exhaust and barbeque, that it was far from so. And seeing the rows upon rows of motorcycles lined up all throughout, Terry was hopeful that someone in there could help fix his pack or at least point him in the direction of someone who could, even small repairs would tip the odds in the duo’s favor

But as he got closer to the barbeque that seemingly all the park’s denizens were gathered at, he noticed something that threw a wrench in his plans. He saw, among the crowd, the same biker gang he and GG encountered in the city! Terry had just walked right into their territory!

Upon realizing this, Terry immediately hid behind a nearby trailer,"shit!" He whispered to himself, considering what happened last time, he knew that if they recognized him and especially his toppat friend, it would mean immense trouble

But despite this, there was still no sign of civilization for miles, one way or another, Terry had to make this work, taking small peeks from behind his hiding as to not get caught, Terry saw a toolbox in the distance, due to his lack of ammo as well as being heavily outnumbered by the bikers, going in guns-blazing wasn’t a viable option, he looked around and found a biker helmet on the ground below, he donned it on his head to hopefully blend in before walking for the toolbox, leaving the pack behind to seem less suspicious, “sit tight, we’ll be out in no time” Terry assured GG, even if he couldn’t hear him.

Back to GG, As he continued to chase the spark, he ran great distances for great amounts of time, naturally, this chase made him very tired, but never enough for him to quit. Something about the light, it made him keep on going, why was it doing this? What was it that he saw? All questions GG simply couldn’t afford to stop and ponder

Soon enough, something strange happened, another, smaller light appeared. As soon as this happened the original spark immediately flew into the smaller counterpart, but unlike before, this glow stayed still. As GG caught up to it, he was initially hesitant to push onward, after all he hadn’t the slightest clue as to what was inside these apparitions,GG himself could have been dead for all he knew, but before he could think twice, the path behind him started to dissipate, leaving him no choice but to jump into the light

On the other side of the apparition, GG found himself in the midst of some treetops, the boy was more confused than ever as he gauged his surroundings, but this would soon by interrupted by a familiar voice, “Heh, who’s ‘useless’ now?” GG turned to where the sound came from and saw… himself?

"I have so many questions…" GG uttered to himself as he watched his past self, seeing him nearly get shot by the arrow before running off, "Wait! Don't lead them back to Terry!" GG called out, of course his memory wouldn't listen, "Geez… I've really always been an idiot, huh?" He sighed, in self loathing

GG’s fit of pity wouldn't last however, as he remembered the task at hand and resumed his chase for the spark as it flew into another glowing apparition

Back to Terry, donning the helmet as disguise, he attempted to simply walk nonchalantly for the toolbox, it seemed he was in the clear, but all of a sudden, “hey, get over here!” one of the bikers called out

After having a brief, silent panic Terry attempted to disguise his voice before responding, “uhh, no can do, in a bit of a hurry”

“Ah, C’mon!” the biker exuberantly snapped back as he waved his arm “there’s always time for the story circle!”

Terry simply sighed, grabbed the toolbox and headed for the circle, “just gotta keep this up for a little longer” he thought to himself as he took a seat

“Und I vould'fe kotden avay vith it, if it veren't for zoze meddling kids!” one of them said before passing the metal pipe in their hand to the green-mohawk-sporting biker next them,

He cleared his throat before starting, “I’ve been a bit on-edge since my escape a couple months back, So I decide to treat myself to a drink or two at one of our pubs, but as I’m enjoying myself, Y’know what happens? Some TOPPAT barges in!”

Many of the bikers had strong reactions of distaste and disgust to this revelation, from screams to gasps to some words that would never come out of a decent person’s mouth.

“I know, I know and it gets worse, the little Depp just walks in like it’s nothin, takes a seat at OUR bar, and takes a sip outta one of OUR drinks, one of my personal favorites no less!”

“So, what’d you do, Punkhauser?” one of the others questioned

“Oh, I’ll tell ya! It took me a moment to realize I wasn’t drinkin too much, but once I did, I made sure that little shit knew he was NOT welcome in our land, And what does he do? Not only does the fucker try to pretend he doesn’t even know the Motor Mafia,but after I tell him just how ridiculous that hat of his is, he has der wagemut to say, ‘you sure you don’t want one yourself?’ and starts laughing like a hyena!

Would’ve broken the Ficker’s arms if it weren’t for some cowboy who punched me in the face before running off!”

Terry had to remain his composure, though he admittedly did have a tinge of fear

"If I ever see those two again, I'll…" At this moment however, Punkhauser noticed the helmeted cowboy and asked “wait.. Isn’t that my helmet?” he asked

"Oh, is it? I just found this on the ground" Terry responded as he began to reach into his pocket, getting ready to pull out a pair of gold knuckles

"Oh, it's alright, Kumpel, need to air this thing out anyway" Punkhauser replied, proudly patting his Mohawk, he might have had too much to drink after all

Terry was relieved but also baffled at the biker's lack of observation skills

"We're outta beer, I'll fetch us some more really quick" the biker announced as he rose from his seat

Seeing an opportunity, Terry attempted to intervene, "Hey, why don't I go get it?" He offered

"nein, it's good" the biker responded,beginning to turn around,"Don't trouble yourself-" He ended up being cut off by the sound of a backpack falling over, immediately after, he grabbed onto the metal pipe once more and headed to investigate

"WHAT THE SCHNITZEL?!" He screamed as he saw his old foe, slumped over and sound asleep,"This little shit… thinks he can just nap… here…" . Punkhauser was both in disbelief, as well as engulfed in unfathomable rage, "WELL I'LL MAKE SURE HE GETS A REAL GOOD SLEEP!"

He screeched, unhinged as a poorly constructed gate, raising his pipe as Killer instinct colored his face

Acting right away, Terry got up, sprinted to Punkhauser, before decking him across the face with his gold knuckles, Knocking him down!

“OW, WHAT THE HELL!?” He roared, still blinded by anger

“Fight!” one member of the crowd called out, leading to an all out brawl between the bikers, with Terry and Punkhauser at the center of the madness

At the same time, GG continued his pursuit, hopping from one glowing apparition to another, Getting a front row seat to some of his less pleasant memories each time.

From when he accidentally drew attention of his and Terry’s bounties, when his argument with Terry led to their encounter with the Director, when he led the duo to K.lown’s supposed house, even seeing Jess as she used what little strength she had to help GG escape the Mansion of Cards prison, leaving herself behind

He kept trying to yell out, warning his past selves to not make these mistakes, but it was useless trying to change the past and his shame only felt to increase, but eventually, it started to become less depressing and more frustrating, seeing his failures back-to-back, “I GET IT ALREADY” GG yelled, “I know Im a screw-up, and APPARENTLY I’ve always been, I don’t need you, or anyone else reminding me!”

At this moment, GG was absolutely DONE, He was focused on one thing and one thing only. Chasing down the spark and finally getting answers

His legs ached, his breath steadily depleted,and his powers still showed no sign of returning but he refused to quit, even as more memories kept flying by, GG refused to pay any more attention to them, he was done wasting time feeling sorry for himself, his eyes glued directly to the spark as it grew closer with each step

Eventually, after hopping through another light, GG found himself back in the void, the spark stayed still as GG huffed and puffed in exhaustion, “Answers… now” he said

Rather than speaking, the glow began to take shape, what GG first saw within was now as clear as could be

“. . . Jess?” GG inquired, unable to believe his eyes as he began to approach her “...how…why… are we dead?” he questioned with concern

“I wouldn’t count on it, seems more like some sorta dream to me”

“You just guessed that?”

“Nevermind, why do you think you’re here? Something on your mind?” Jess asked as she raised her arm, making a pair of rock chairs rise from the ground

GG took a seat and began with a sigh “my whole life I’ve just been dead weight, to the Toppats,to my parents,to Terry,Even you”

“What makes you think that?”

“Isn’t it obvious? You saw all those memories too”

“I did see those memories, but you didn’t see the whole of them”

“..hmm?”

“Lemme show ya” Jess waved her hand and made a bubble of water spread out above the two like a roll of paper, as the memories projected within them once more, this time, something else was shown, when GG grabbed the archer’s arrows outta the air as the flew towards Terry, when he pushed the Jet cart as the Motor mafia was on the duo’s tails, helped form the plan to outsmart the director and fought through the storm to get the two away from K.lown, “Sure, you make some mistakes, tons in fact, but who doesn’t? Not to mention, I don’t think any ‘Deadweight’ would even acknowledge their own mistakes, let alone go through what you would to make things right for the ones you care about”

“Huh, I didn’t think of that… but what about you? if it wasn’t for you getting roped into my heist just because I was too nervous to go alone like I was supposed to, you wouldn’t be stuck in that prison right now, even when I made that promise to keep being that happy-go-lucky, ever smiling optimist, I couldn’t even do that … I’m sorry”

“Is that what you think I meant?”

“What else could it be?”

“Lemme show one more thing” Another memory appeared in the water, this time showing a younger Jess, sitting pensively by one of the submarine windows, “do you remember when we first met?” She commented

“I mean, I must if this my own mind” GG replied, before quieting down to watch the rest, Past Jess Continued staring out the window, with an apathetic expression on her face, until she was interrupted by a jolly sounding, “Hello!” she turned to her side, and standing there was the Red toppat wearing Heterochromatic himself, “what ya doin?” Past GG asked

“Nothing..”

“Mind if I join?”

“Mmm,fine…”

GG seemed to grow a bit concerned, “why so sad?” He questioned

“I don’t like it here… Can’t even have a decent view…”

“Maybe not from here, follow me!”

GG led the two to one of the submarine’s top hatches and they both took seats atop the sub, once there, Jess was absolutely mesmerized by what she saw, the many stars of the night sky, shimmering off the ocean as it’s waves flowed in a peaceful rhythm

“I’ll admit sometimes I feel a bit boxed in, being here all the time” Past GG explained, “when it happens, I like to come up here, to remind myself that there’s a great big world out there and one day, I wanna explore every inch of it”

Jess simply replied “Thank you… maybe this isn’t so bad..”

“What’s your name anyway?”

“Jessica, but you can just call me Jess”

“Name’s George!”

“How about I just call you… GG?”

GG let out a, “Yeah!” as the memory came to a close

“What does it stand for exactly?” GG asked

“well, this is still your mind, I only know as much as you do” Jess responded “but that’s beside the point, I never made you promise to always be happy, What I meant is that even when things seem bleak, you’re always able to find something, even something small, that makes everything worth it, it’s what inspired me to get better control of my powers and when I did my own solo heist…

GG briefly took the crown off his hat, gazing deep into his reflection within

“If you really were, ‘deadweight’ do you think I would have chosen to go with you on that heist or leave myself behind for your sake?”

“I… Guess I didn’t realize that before, but even with that, I just wonder, is it too late?”

As GG finished his sentence, one final Light appeared in the distance, bigger and brighter than ever as yet another illuminated path glowed towards it

“Only one way to find out!” Jess encouraged

GG rose from his chair, and began to walk for it but soon stopped, “uhhm, Jess, do you think I’ll ever see you again, y’know, for real?”

“I dunno, but If you do, I’m sure I’d be glad”

The two stood still for a moment, exchanging warm smiles, before GG took a deep breath and began to march for the light yet again, slowly, GG’s steps began getting faster, his strides getting longer with each breath, sparks emitting from his legs, his breath, heartbeat, his mind becoming one until eventually…

crackle

BOOM!

His powers had finally returned! As he got closer, GG charged a potent flame in his legs, before making a final, powerful, rocket-esque leap into the spark!

Outside, however, the brawl raged on, even if most of the biker’s were busy fighting each other, Terry struggled to keep up with the chaos, but continued to knock many of them out, blow after blow, until several of them tackled and ambushed the disguised cowboy, pinning him to the ground!

At this moment, Punkhauser approached him, “Y’know what? Forget that helmet, Arschloch!” he screamed as he Pulled the helmet off, revealing Terry, Punkhauser was in shock, “..You..” his rage took hold once more, “Keep ‘im alive for a little longer boys!” the crazed biker announced as he reached into Terry’s pack, grabbing GG by the neck and holding him in front of Terry

“Since you care about your little Toppat so much, How about we make him a hood ornament!?” He Threatened as he Drew a knife

Terry Gasped, he tried to struggle with all of his might, but to no avail

Punkhauser reeled his hand back before swinging with all his might! And…

Before his knife could reach the boy's neck, his arm was grabbed, "what the!?" He shouted in confusion, but soon enough, where GG had his grasp, Punkhauser felt his arm start to burn, making him lose his grip!

GG landed with his hand in running start position, before his head shot up, to reveal his determined smile and eyes staring with more focus than ever as he launched himself onto the biker's piled atop Terry, knocking them off like bowling pins!

The remaining bikers proceed to scatter to get their guns, but when they got there, they realized, the guns had no ammo and lo and behold, GG was smugly swinging a bag full of their ammo in his hands before tossing it to Terry as he got up

The cowboy grabbed the ammo, a smile spread across his face as he popped them into his clip, at this point many bikers began retreating, but still plenty chose to stay and fight, enough for Terry and GG to be surrounded

The duo stood back to back, they turned to exchange affirmative nods then they both ran off!

Accurate shot after accurate shot, Terry mowed down the horde as they charged at him, while GG opted to run up close and personal, swiftly dodging the swings of the biker’s knives, machetes and even chainsaws, sneaking in quick, burning strikes as he zipped about and keeping them distracted long enough to line em’ up for a bullet right to the head!

Punkhauser tried to join the fight, but got dragged away to retreating by a fellow biker, when the duo emerged from the chaos, roughed up with some minor cuts, GG noticed the motorcycles escaping in the distance, a smug smirk emerged from him as he picked up a nearby rock, charged up his fire, gave his best throw and…

It landed nowhere near them, “dammit, that would've been so impressive!” GG remarked, before turning back to Terry

“Look,I’m sorry for lashing out at you” Terry apologized

“To be fair, I’m not exactly blameless myself, I got so caught up in wanting to ‘not let' em’ down’ that I forgot to actually do what I promised.” GG apologized back

“You had a good thing going, didn’t you? Back at the rogue's gallery I was always ‘the little runt’ of the team, and when things went south, no one came to my side… I’ve just been so used to having to do everything myself, but I’d rather not go back to that.”

“Hey, we’re still going to the same place aren’t we? I’m positive the clan would welcome someone with all your skills!”

“Heh, thanks K- … I mean, GG”

(some time later)

How’s the repairs coming along? GG asked as he took a bite of some of the Biker’s leftover barbeque

“Everything looks alright” Terry retorted, “but it’s gonna need a jumpstart, luckily I made a little modification for just that” He announced as he opened the pack to it’s inner workings

GG approached the pack to get a better look and he saw a pair of handle bars alongside an electrical symbol, The boy was surprised and turned to the cowboy to affirm what he thought

“Have at it” Terry declared, GG proceeded to take hold of the handle bars, taking a deep breath as he let the electricity flow into his hands, in a flash, the pack was working, good as new!

The duo briefly celebrated with a triumphant high-five, before Terry strapped on the pack and GG hopped into its storage, they blasted off, full speed ahead for real this time, nothing could stop them now!. . .

Right?

[epilogue]

At the mansion of cards

Atop the Casino's highest balcony, Dice. H Roller has taken a seat, gazing upon the city-folk below, Las-paygas may have an official mayor, but seeing as how they are no less affected by the casino’s allure, Dice practically ran the city, looking upon all he had as the wind gently caressed his face, Dice felt… content

He then got up to return inside, entering his personal elevator to the depths below the casino, as he walked the halls on the way to his surveillance room, he passed by the “outta luck house” the casino’s very own Prison, seeing the seeing the lifeless, mangled faces and hearing the wails and distorted cries of those Dice felt have personally wronged him, once more he felt… content

He would also pass many of his loyal employees, from the spade troops keeping tabs of activity in and out of the casino, ready to deal with whatever might happen using their wide weapon assortment at a moments notice, to the Diamond guards, vigilantly watching over the prisoners, some of these employees were customers who had their minds fully taken by the Mansion of card’s influence, some even being former prisoners, deemed worthy in Dice’s eyes and brainwashed, all of which would immediately salute to Dice the moment they would see him.

Seeing all the power he had in his control, he yet again felt… content

But then, he took a look to one of the prison cells, once occupied by his most recent thief, one that succeeded no less, now only occupied by thin air, seeing this, he took a deep breath, before letting out a scowl… of discontent, before finally getting to the surveillance room.

Inside, awaited Dice’s right hand, K.lown, who saluted him as did all of his other underlings, “back already?" Dice asked, "and yet, no sign of the target, shame." He continued

“Unfortunately” K.lown responded, “but no good performer arrives empty handed…” He announced as he reached into his hat, pulling out the piece of Terry’s map he managed to grab in the midst of his scuffle, it didn’t say much, but it provided all Dice and K.lown needed to know, The destination.

“So the toppat wishes to flee to space?”

“And you’ll never guess who the little runt was tagging along with”

“Nevertheless, Still a lowly, petty thief, not worth any more resources than what we’ve already poured in.” Dice continued as he picked up and began to dial his phone, “See, Lown, Part of running a business is knowing when to do something yourself and when it’s best to outsource…”

Ring

“Hello, Petrov, I believe you’ll want to hear this…”

Noragami 98-2 thoughts

We're so close to the 100th chapter, and there's tons of exciting developments! Spoilers under the cut.

The backgrounds went OFF. I say this a lot but starting with a two-page Yomi spread, and later the page of the vents opening? Chef's kiss. I hope Adachitoka's wrist is okay.

I still want to know what is up with the old man on the island describing the mask maker as blind and deaf. He seems to mean it in a literal sense ("he could neither see nor hear you"), but so far none of the flashbacks of Father we've seen have depicted him as such. Is this a myth getting twisted over time? Or is there another missing piece?

Father kept calling Izanami Kaya. I feel like there's a link here between these two things, but I'm not sure what. Was seeing her appearance as Izanami the first time he got to see her face? aaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Izanami was a lot nicer to him than she was to Yato. I suppose because he came there as a dead person and didn't immediately reveal his intent to steal from her and then escape, which is what he and Ebisu did.

Anyway, on the other end of the Worrying Spectrum is it seems like Amaterasu can only remove names in the order they're given, so Chiki has had all of her names revoked except the most important one. Father is free to keep wreaking havoc on shinki until Amaterasu or someone else (read: Yato) stops him.

Does this mean she can't revoke Yukine's name of Sekki, because the name Father gave is blocking it? On the one hand, thank god. On the other hand, this means the only way to remove "Yuuki" is for Father to revoke it willingly, which he won't do. We know names don't disappear when a god dies either (see: Kunimi chapter), so unless for some reason this also works differently, I think Yukine is stuck with that name for good.

As much as that fact kinda sucks, it was an inevitability. See, I don't think the status of "nora" necessarily gets lost with the spare name being removed. There's still the fact that this shinki chose to take on another name at all, and this will be true whether or not Yukine loses "Yuuki." It's also assumed gods won't name shinki without their consent (even though it does happen), so the fault of something like this happening falls entirely on the shinki's shoulders.

The reason Yukine and Nora aren't affected by GGS after being named by the koto no ha is, according to Father and Izanami, because they became ayakashi who no longer have true names. So gaining this knowledge doesn't break them like other shinki.

This is an answer I've been waiting on ever since Father named Yukine, but it still confuses me in Nora's case, since she never had a true name to begin with. Maybe it was because she was named with the koto no ha in the first place that she gained a humanlike form (rather than the infant/embryo she died as) and other gods were able to name her. I'm not sure.

Father's rant was pretty funny to me. "YOU caused these problems." Yeah, because they were trying to stop YOU? You, who is killing indiscriminately, damning every god and their shinki as guilty and exercising judgment as YOU see fit. Not to mention all the child abuse on your track record. Have a little self-awareness, my guy.

He really said "fuck the sun"

In other news, Yato's back! And he's also going to join the fight. Yato vs Father round...4? Yato vs Yukine round 3? He's already taken a lot of damage this arc. I hope he ends up okay.

Yato meeting Amaterasu without her other shinki necessarily present will be interesting. Will she side with him, only for them to forcibly cut her off (in a "stop talking" way or a "murder" way)? Will she return Yukine to him somehow and deal with Father herself? Will she and Yato team up to kill him while Take and Ebisu destroy the grave?

Essentially, all this (+ Hiyori, + Yuka, + the ongoing mystery of Yukine's father) is stacking up to happen around the 100th chapter. We might even get more Bishamon moments. I'm really excited and scared to see what will happen. As long as all my kids are okay <3 (not you, trash dad)

This is a response to @rainbowsky ‘s questions about BJYX, as the original post got too long for reblogging (I hope this is okay!). 1) Should we be worried about GG and DD being outed? I often think about what it’s like to be in the closet and I know how it feels to need to be SEEN. But I also understand the reasons why that might not be an option for them. Still, I worry about them being involuntarily outed. There are so many antis after them.

2) What would you speculate is the likelihood of this ever happening, and what might be the consequences if it happened?Is leaving an option for them, even as a distant goal years from now?

3)Does their fame and popularity hold any protective power in the situation (i.e. if they were to come out or be outed, would public opinion about what might happen to them have any impact on the outcome given the nature of the regime)? To what degree would that depend on how much money they are still able to make for interested parties?

@rainbowsky, you’re among the first BXGs I followed! I’d like to thank you for your insightful posts as well!

Your questions ~ I don’t think I’m qualified to speculate because I’m still a very new turtle and also because of the volatility as well as inconsistencies of China’s sociopolitical policies. I do have a better sense of China’s politics than most international fans, but I also don’t live there and the only way to truly understand how things work at the ground level in a non-transparent country like China is to be there.

(For example, China has officially banned Christmas celebrations for the last several years, but as we saw last week, commercials remain very “Christmas-sy” and Chinese fans happily said Merry Christmas to each other. It takes someone who lives inside to know where to draw the line — what is permitted by the state and what isn’t — when the line shifts and adjusts accordingly.)

Here’re my thoughts, as of today (2020/12/31): if the perpetrator is only some segment of the fandom and the purpose is merely to knock them off the popularity pedestal, outing isn’t a particularly effective way to do so. Homosexuality, being a highly regulated subject in Chinese news and social media, is likely to mean limit transmission of the accusations. The accuser also has to run to risk of being banned themselves first. Also, with BJYX + ZSWW + LSFY being the sizes they are, the people who will most consider turning against gg and dd, ie, the solo fans, have probably already heard something. Some will leave, but the news won’t be a bombshell to them.

The next possibility is if a legal case becomes possible, ie. if China suddenly outlaws homosexuality. This scenario may seem the most dire on the surface but is also one that I least worry about, because with China’s judiciary system being very biased to those in power, if someone wants to frame gg and dd, they do not need to use sexuality as the accusation and subject themselves to the same restrictions as mentioned above. Tax evasion, as @peekbackstage has mentioned with the actress Fan Bing Bing, is far easier, because it tends the turn the audience against the defendant: these stars are making so much money and yet they’re not contributing their share! And as long as the accusers have sufficient power — remembering that commercial and political power are married in the country — the accuser can make up any evidence to suit their needs for any crime.

The third possibility is what I see as the worst case scenario: that the government decides they don’t want their major stars / entertainment industry to be *perceived* as queer — whether the stars are officially out doesn’t matter — and signals the media and commercial companies to stop using any “suspect” star altogether. (Chinese term: 封殺). This is the case of career murder without blood — laws aren’t changed; all the fans will hear are rumours confirmed by nobody. I see this as a possibility because of the Xi regime’s view of The Ideal Men , and my admittedly limited experience with dealing with older generations of Chinese, who I’ve found tend to confuse perceived femininity in men with queerness. I think, and this is only my opinion, that the sheer amount of adapted BL dramas in production (the so-called “dangai 耽改 101” phenomenon) and the heated discussions of them on Weibo will at some point trigger the government (which is made mostly of older generations Chinese). Even if gg and dd don’t do anything, should the government decide these adapted BL dramas, even after the elimination of their queer element, are “non mainstream socialist core values”, all the major people involved with the Untamed—arguably the classic and the drama whose success all these follow-ups are trying to imitate—can be cast as the culprit. If the same officials become aware of BJYX and if they’re somehow convinced that BJYXSZD, it can be easy be used as evidence of the bad influence these dramas can do—“they can turn people gay”—and it doesn’t help that according to reports, gg, at least, used to have a girlfriend.

Something more to consider: Gg and dd are also in a very special position now, in that not only are they immensely popular in China, no other native mainland Chinese stars have achieved this level of international fame with a native mainland Chinese production (ie, not a production from Hollywood, Hong Kong or Taiwan, or with a Kpop band). As such, they are likely subjected to high levels of scrutiny from the state. Depending on who’s in charge in the appropriate department, they may decide gg and dd have to be China’s image; they may have a set idea of what image it is and most likely, it won’t be queer. 2021 and the first quarter of 2022 are special times for China, image wise, both at home and abroad. 2021 is the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party, and gg and dd are both starring in its propaganda productions (dd as a police in BAH and gg as an army officer in AT). CCTV, the state-controlled TV station, is already promoting these shows. So, for 2021, gg and dd are slated to not only be the faces of Chinese entertainment, but also the image of Chinese uniformed forces. If gg and dd come out or are outed, their allowing themselves to be being perceived as queer while donning uniforms will most likely to be viewed by the current regime as an embarrassment; a career murder, then, is an apt response to such transgression. 2022 is the year of Beijing’s Winter Olympics, so again, it’s the time where image matters.

You may have noticed a pattern, as I have as I write this up: them being outed is something to worry about, but also ... nothing more than anything else. If someone wants to tear gg and dd down — and there will be, given their massive commercial power right now and the increasing evidence that they’re working more like collaborators than competitors (ie, they aren’t about to tear each other down any time soon) — they do not need their sexuality as a reason.

(And if these accusers really want to use homosexuality as a reason, the unofficial BTS is, IMO, more than enough, as long as the accusers have sufficient power.)

Your other question ~ can gg and dd’s fame, popularity, and ability to draw consumers protect them? My (slightly) educated guess of the answer, then, is that it’s very much a double-edged sword. Indeed, the one major thing that may be going for these adapted BL dramas, and for those who come to superstardom to it — with gg and dd being the prime examples — is the economic health of China, which, by some reports that can no way be verified, are far worse than what has been reported. This is the thing about countries lack transparency; without reliable news, there’s no way to get the facts. Reports on China outside the country tend to be either propaganda or demonising / filled with conspiracy theories, and the truth is probably somewhere in between. If the reports of poor economy are true, the commercial sector — which, again, is tied to those with political power; ie the money made in the former goes into the pockets of the latter — desperately needs stars like gg and dd to move products (based on those recent consumer reports!) and with that, it will want to keep gg and dd and these dramas that can potentially make more gg and dd around. This *seems* to be what’s happening so far, with the the state-run media happy to show gg and dd’s dramas (when it should know, at least, that they got to the height of their fame playing lovers-not-lovers) and gg and dd’s sponsors not-so-subtly wooing the BJYX segment of fandom, so I’m tentatively optimistic. However, the current regime has also shown a willingness to sacrifice the economy for the sake of political ideology, so it’s not something to be taken for granted. (What’s going on in Hong Kong is a good example of that.)

(I always think, eat each candy like it can be the last one. With this regime, it can be. We can wake up tomorrow and gg and dd have to break up BJYX to protect the fans.)

(I always think, treasure, treasure, treasure. Ask for more dy and lz and Weibo posts, but never anymore from gg and dd when it comes to insights of their relationship, even without considering it’s actually their private lives and they’re under no obligation to share.)

There’s really no precedence for us to predict the future of an outed gg and dd from, as far as I know. Confirmed queer stars in Chinese entertainment (those with sufficient followers to make news) have all been from Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries. The successful BL dramas before The Untamed — Addicted (2016) and The Guardian (2018) — didn’t have a real-person cp that truly took off. Addicted, a true BL drama (ie, it retained the queer elements), was banned before it finished its broadcast. The two actors were also banned from appearing together afterwards, and this “signal” from the government almost cost the two actors their career. Bai Yu from The Guardian, meanwhile, already had a girlfriend as he filmed, so there was never a Weibo supertopic dedicated to him and Zhu Yilong. gg and dd, along with their millions of turtles, are treading untrodden ground.

Something I should clarify ~ all the things I said above may sound very scary to international fans, but to those who live in the country, they understand it as the way things are, and they strategise and move accordingly. This is their way of life. What I wanted to say, in my first reblog, is that we who’re outside may not understand why they do things the way they do, why they don’t, for example, come out with all the candies they are spending so much effort to give out, but I do believe that gg and dd have a plan, not in the sense that they’re scheming or trying to trick anyone, but that they are moving things along at the pace necessary to meet the pre-requisites for the outcome they want. What this outcome is is anyone’s guess, mine being that they have the freedom to work together, not necessary in lover’s capacity — most of us are not required to perform our day jobs carrying our identity as so-and-so’s significant other and gg and dd shouldn’t be exceptions — but as colleagues, professionals and friends (lovers are friends).

To some international fans, this may sound implausible, ridiculous: why do they need a multi year campaign for something as simple as this? As working together again? And I suppose, all these words I’ve typed so far is my attempt to answer this question, to ease the … unease, the frustration of those who may not understand. True to its marxist root, perhaps, many things that are considered mindless, effortless tasks elsewhere somehow become battles, grand struggles of sorts in China. That sea of sea lights on the night of Tencent awards, for example? It was the result of gg’s fans fighting, strategising in real time to smuggle those LED banners in when they realised the venue had forbidden their entry. They wrapped the banners around their bodies under their underwear because they were patted down by security at the underwear level; they hid batteries in their shoes. They ran batteries from one zone in the stadium to another during the whole show for whose who only managed to smuggle in banners or batteries. They fought the security guards inside the stadium, who continued to snatch away their banners even after seeing they were merely support material for the idols. They fought and fought, despite their identities were recorded by their COVID pass and facial recognition. Many confessed they had no idea what gg was singing during the show; they were too busy. They were there, some paying scalpers > 10x the ticket price, just because they promised the sea of red would be there for gg when he returned. When some realised dd’s banners were confiscated in high numbers because his fans happened to have seats right by the strictest security, they improvised, found an image of a green block to show on their cell phones to make makeshift green support lights for dd. They used Weibo to spread this trick to fellow fans. All these trouble, all these effort, all these planning and scheming and sweat and tears — all for one night, one concert and they laughed about it, called it a wonderful day.

(There are many ways for lives to be hard.)

The very first thing gg and dd need to accomplish, therefore, isn’t to announce what they do in the bedroom—the very first thing they need, for their plan to come to fruition, is to stay on top of the industry. How can they be on the same stage for the yearly Tencent Awards if either of them fails to make VIP? What’s their negotiation chip for a future collaboration, when the current norm is against cps like them working together again, if they cannot draw enough viewers and consumers, or if they offend Tencent and other media companies by refusing to see to the needs of the other side (for example, the need to promote new dramas)? So far, the two of them have accomplished this in flying colours. The other thing they need right now, the way I see it, is for their fans to get along. I think part of the reason they’ve made BJYXSZD so easy to believe in and love, in addition to their very human need to be seen when their careers may be safer otherwise (yes, I think they know what they’re doing, the candies they’re throwing), is because they want their fans to unite, as they have united. To make sure something like 227 cannot happen again, or at least, if it does happen again, their fans cannot be used as an excuse, as scapegoats. And this union is happening — slowly, but it’s happening. The size of BJYX (>2.8 million as of now, on Weibo supertopic) is a powerful indicator; I also had a wonderful time reading the comments of gg’s solo fans who went to purchase dd’s new song. This is the part gg and dd need their fan’s help. This is the one of the fews things we, as overseas fans who have limited access to their products, can help.

Your final question — sorry, this is getting so long again — about leaving. Of course, it’s always up to the government and It’s impossible to say what can happen so far ahead. But my perception, right now at least, is that gg and dd have no intention to leave, no intention to sacrifice their career for their personal lives and vice versa. After all, this is a pair who has answered those A vs B choice questions with a straight-faced “I want both” and “so annoying” without a follow-up reply. They’re right to want both. I like them for wanting both. And maybe, with their intelligence, charisma and hardwork and ambition and personalities that seem to clash but somehow complements each other’s, they will figure out a way. Maybe they are, as the Chinese turtles call them, the Chosen Pair, and they will be the ones who’ll change the perception fo queer artists in China, and we’ll one day get a biography about them and laugh at the candies we get right, laugh harder at those candies we get totally wrong.

Sooooo whatya think of the new episodeee?

Oh it’s definitely my favorite episode of the series so far, i was having such a good time at every turn. I’m glad i went out of my way to avoid spoilers, cause i was glad to actually be surprised by some elements on first watch.

I think this had by far the best opening for an episode so far, we finally get back to the villians, we meet the coven heads, we get insight on belos’s plans-

and then belos gets constipated, which starts getting into the more character driven lore, which is the best part. You instantly can tell GG and Kiki have some bit of tension between them to be Belo’s favorite, though granted i wonder if hunter is the only one to know belos is cursed and actually just always insists to help belos with his fits to prevent others from seeing them.

Including kiki.

It’s honestly unclear how aware anyone is that belos is cursed, like him eating pailsmans is apparently not something he hides, but like....i feel him being cursed is something that people would know universally if it got out...so i’m left wondering if anyone knows besides hunter.

Regardless, belos turns into a goop monster with an angry side, and i guess his mask doesn’t transform with him compared to the rest of his body so he breaks it again because i guess he goes though masks like crazy.

Hunter turns away in this scene from his outburst and even though he’s masked here i can already tell he’s most likely pained in these scenes. Like he’s probably seen this happen so many times, and i can’t imagine it gets any easier for him, it’s probably awful to watch belos suffer like this for him (Regardless of the abuse)

And to be honest, it seems pretty painful for him, i think this ep seems to at least confirm whatever this thing is that takes over belos’s body.....belos never actually wanted it in the first place.

Yeah so after Hunter tells belos there’s not enough trees to medicate him anymore, we’re hit with the “UNCLE”. Which, when i first watched it i needed a second to even process the fact they confirmed their relation.

and i was like “CLOSE ENOUGH”, not his kid but uncle still works just fine for me, i’m just happy my assumption they were related actually came to ahead.

And i rewatched this episode a few times, and on second watch i realized more what happened in this scene. Hunter was talking about his interest in wild magic, and making more pailsman to help belos, and some method that could heal him and as soon as belos looked at him he instantly shut down.

He was clearly rambling about wild magic cures for belos because of his interest in it, and then suddenly remembered his uncle hates wild magic and felt super awkward.

It seems highly likely his interest in wild magic came from trying to cure belos and spending a lot of time reading up on the stuff.

And then we get hit with the whole “Our family is dead because of wild magic” line, which.....i’m curious to know what happened there. But it does at least explain why belos feels how he does, if wild magic both killed his family beside hunter AND cursed him in the first place. We’re just gonna need more info on what exactly happened.

Also while Belos is def abusive and does not treat hunter how he should, this scene actually does read off to me like belos does care about hunter to some degree. If belos is cursed and his curse works in similar ways to how Eda’s curse works, then it’s worth reminding ppl that eda mentions early this season how stress can amplify the curse even more.

And sure enough, belos goes goopy on hunter’s shoulder all of a sudden when he grasps him. Which could be considered a sign of stress and that the idea of hunter dying or being in danger actually does stress him.

You could very much also assume this is just due to his curse not being fully handled and just getting worse, or that belos only cares about hunter for selfish reasons....but i’m not taking anything off the table here.

Belos can still be a shitty uncle, and still care about hunter, these aren’t mutually exclusive traits. But we need more episodes for now on this.

But anyways he asks hunter if he can rely on him, kiki is pissed......and we move on.

So i’m glad luz’s impulsiveness is addressed a ton in this episode, they actually bring up a lot of good points. That luz has no plan, that the time she’s spending here might render moot if she goes back to earth, ect ect.

Hunter even calls her out a lot later for not thinking things through, it’s a whole deal in this episode. I’m glad it was brought up cause it’s actually worth asking a lot of these things.

the set up here works, they actually made a good reason for why a pailsman didn’t bond with her. Speaking of which the adoption thing is cute and i love it, it’s a great idea. The designs are all very cute and fun.

Bump face reveal was a lot for me to process, but i find the idea of his pailsman being a pet that can help with his disabilities a good idea.

Also like, i did find it odd that they got staffs so early because we’ve never seen kids their ages with them before, but i guess it’s a new tradition? Does everyone at hexside now have one?

Honesty not sure why batqueen left the nest there overnight, i meant i guess she assumed they were safe with that shield but in context i dunno why she didn’t take them home after the school day was over.

but whatever, luz stays there overnight hoping a pailsman will bond with her and GG just kidnapps them cause of pure luck on his part a bunch of pailsman were in a vulnerable spot tonight.

So GG continues to be charming, by whistling the theme song and then being blasted off his ship hilariously, before cockily teleporting himself right back on it seconds later. Like he and luz have great banter, he’s so extra like this it’s so funny, and god he’s so FAST with that staff it’s scary but so awesome.

Yeah so then hand dragon crashes them and i was so excited cause it meant face reveal. Poor dude looked so in pain and then we find out kiki tried to effing murder him because of course she did. But like, i think killing your boss’s nephew is the WORST way to get a promotion tbh.

(Also i got confused for a bit cause his mask has always been drawn as a mask, but now it’s a helmet in this scene for whatever reason but-)

Anyways, face reveal, Like honestly ppl weren’t too far off with their guesses, really the only thing people didn’t get was the tooth gap (That was fair tho, we couldn’t have guessed that). But it did make him even cuter.

like the banter is funny, he licks her hand, she slaps him, he looks SO pissed at her for this mess.

and i guess that outfit is his under armor apparently.

He’s lucky she didn’t run away immediately and followed him, but maybe he assumed she would since she had no where else to go.

Also his expressions in this ep are glorious, these had to be fun to draw.

Also we find out that the coven team members have never seen his face i guess? They just assume he’s a silly kid and are awful to him, so i guess he’s not only the youngest member of the coven but he never really shows his face much.

(”Call your parents”, ha ha.....whose gonna tell them who his uncle is?)

He is however, REALLY good at parkour and he’s fast even without his staff, so he’s well trained alright.

And then they reveal he’s not magical and i was SO happy cause i was so sure something was up when he wasn’t doing magic like the other witches despite his pointy ears. So they outright confirmed what i thought.

Hunter is pretty smart tho, like he can tell luz wouldn’t hurt him and wouldn’t flee so he knows he has the high ground here. Like he might be being a bit of a dick, but to be fair luz has been nothing but a dick to him throughout the whole episode (Everyone in this episode has been a dick to him tbh)

They team up and i get excited cause i love this kinda stuff and it gets more wholesome because hunter is super interested in her magic, he thinks it’s cool and you can tell how much he actually loves wild magic but then again...shuts himself down because of belos making him fear the stuff.

An then because luz asks, he tells her his backstory.

honestly with how this world treats people who aren’t magically powerful, living and growing up in a world that would find you useless sounds....awful. Hunter must be an anomaly around here, human blood or not.

Luz coming here to learn is different then growing up in a world and being the only one with no abilities and no future without them. Belos provides him with magic and a future, it’s no wonder he stays with him despite everything.

the whole “Found me” thing is weird, cause belos implies they’re blood related and hunter makes it sound like belos semi-adopted him. Which....if he did i dunno why “Uncle” and not “Adopted dad”, but ok....guess that’s for later.

Apparently hunter is important for something tho with the “Titan has big plans for me” thing, not sure what, but-

But yeah as soon as Hunter talked about wanting to make his own future and Rascal tried to land on him i knew EXACTLY where this was going, it was so cuteeeeee. The lil birb wanted to be with hunter, that’s so wholesome.

And he’s so terrified because of belos and what wild magic did to him, the poor bab.

But yeah, luz then trusts him with his staff back, because again....impulsive. But hunter does actually ask if she’s sure, so he might as well be asking if she trusts him.

The plan goes ahead, and hunter nearly betrays her.

though granted, hunter never promised her he’d stop and let her take them away, the truce was supposed to last till kiki was stopped and they were gonna fight out who got the pailsman. But it does bother luz cause she was hopeful he was better then this.

But just like he did before, she calls him out and he doesn’t betray her, because he’s ALSO too nice to do it, just like he said she was. He says his name (Which also took a moment to process), and then beats the crap out of kiki while letting luz get away and protecting her like a badass.

He might not have magic, but he’s good at fighting

like he can easily teleport to luz and take the pailsman, but he doesn’t, he lets them get away and luz knows this. Even though she also knows hunter has to go back to the emperor too and they have to separate.

It’s only slightly bitter terms, because in the end he came through for her and she knows it.

honestly, the worst part is i can’t even be mad at hunter for it, i’m sure he was terrified to fail belos. Both because he loves him and doesn’t want him to suffer....but also because of well...being punished. Really says something when his near betrayal doesn’t even make me mad at him, and i can understand why he nearly did it.

He let her go, knowing he’d be in SERIOUS trouble and that it would hurt someone he actually loves, so....ouch.

so yeah at this point i knew rascal wanted him so it was only of matter of what happened next.

Which was, luz getting the wood, which i like more anyway. Eda and King doing this offscreen and coming home like this is actually very funny, and honestly i appreciate the message of it being ok to wait.....means a lot to me.

yeah so belos is like...being an ass, like the kid tried his hardest, you don’t need to hit him with the “Is this the thanks i get?”. He’s a kid and he’s trying to cure you you dick, give him a break he doesn’t remotely have to help you like this.

Also apparently belos has not even told hunter HOW this happened, like...dude. Hunter is trying to be entirely reasonable here and belos spikes at him, which does imply some physical abuse though the only reason hunter doesn’t get a new scar is because he moves.

but how he reacts implies this has happened before, he is bracing for impact and he flinches. It’s pretty sad tbh, especially since hunter loves him and belos’s respect means something to him.

Belos is such an idiot, like c’mon dude, hunter is trying to help you and you don’t listen to him you dick. Kid shouldn’t have to say sorry for anything he did nothing wrong, he was just trying to help.

Anyways, he gloats at kiki (So at the very least she knows what he looks like under the mask), which he deserves a chance to do anyway. So i guess he didn’t rat her out for trying to kill him, personally my guess why is blackmail.....he was gonna hold it over her head to keep her from doing it again and threaten to tell belos.

But kiki quickly tells he LET the pailsman get away since he was the one to fight her (Curse his cute loose hair strand). So i guess now they have dirt on each other, so that’s fun.

His room is adorable, though the med kit by the bed is concerning.

Rascal comes for him and it;s so cute....though you can tell hunter nearly hurts him on instinct because of force of habit, but it’s so cute how he cares and how the birb loves him and is his new staff.

it was well hinted to as well, it’s so subtle, but the bird being cheery, curious, and his constant habit of escaping boundaries was perfect for hunter. He represents what hunter wants to be and why they got matched is done so well, all without explaining anything.

Hunter indirectly stated his deepest wish, to make his own choices, and rascal resonated with that.

can’t wait to see where this goes.

More Tommy-Purpled friendship content!! CW for: brief mentions of corpses and death (via being struck by lightning)

On rainy days, Purpled polishes his sword. It’s a good weapon: netherite, with Sharpening V, Unbreaking III— the usual overpowered enchantments. He isn’t complaining though; the stronger he is, the better. He goes through a collection of blades, from the one he knows best to the oldest one he owns, on the verge of being grinded into dust. Wipe, sharpen, steer clear of rust. Keep the blade clean and dry. It’s easy to get lost in the repetitive motions.

Dogchamp lies by his side, close to the fire, hind leg poking at his thigh through the soft material. Their ears perk up, and their tail begins to wag. Back, forth, thumping on the floorboards.

A door slams open, followed by a myriad of curses. It’s the usual rainy day, after all.

“Don’t let my floor get wet,” Purpled says immediately. His voice rebounds within the house, a meagre two rooms decorated with torches. A temporary base, if you will. One that he’s planning to blow up soon.

His UFO was…

It just isn’t the same.

“Fuck you,” the trespasser immediately responds. The house is unbearably empty despite its miniscule nature. “I’ll do whatever I want.”

A beat. He probably found the towel Purpled placed on the counter earlier, specifically for this scenario. Footsteps, sharp against the falling of rain—white hair peeks out from the door. Tommy sneers at the other derisively, before crossing the room in five long steps and dropping down on Purpled’s other side.

This has become a ritual of sorts, with the two blondes (or, in Tommy’s case, ex-blonde) seeking refuge from bad days. Sometimes it’s sunny out, or the middle of the night; most of the time, it’s raining.

The day they met, it was raining too. Wide eyes meet each other in the solace of darkness. The past is unforgivingly cruel, and whispers mockeries into their ears. Tommy looked so small, in the Church Prime’s pew; Purpled was sure he looked equally as haggard, hand clenched around the hilt of his sword.

So, Purpled invited Tommy to his base. It’s warm despite being unfamiliar, and Dogchamp is amicable towards traumatised teenagers who need way more therapy than life is willing to give. They talked a bit about the stupidity of other members. Rarely, there was a glimpse into their lives, what they missed and have lost. Neither of them actively asked and, in a sense, it was comforting.

Then it happens again. And again. Tommy pulls out his sewing kit on the third visit and demands to patch up his hoodie. Purpled teaches Tommy how to shear sheep, wool coming off in lines of blue. Just like this, they help each other. There’s too much left unspoken and no expectations to be had. There is no debt to be repaid, or a favour to be granted, or a profitable exchange.

It’s just that. It’s just them, crossing each other’s path sometimes. Seeing how the other has changed from their previous meeting.

“It’s stupid,” Tommy says suddenly. His shrill voice pierces through the haze of thoughts. Pale eyes flicker around the room, with shadows from corners pulling faces. “This is what you do in your spare time? Fight, prepare to fight, fight some more?” He scoffs, not even sparing Purpled a glance. “Idiot.”

Much to the mercenary’s bemusement, Tommy proceeds to pull a cake out of his inventory. As in, a full-blown, home-baked dessert.

“.... Huh?”

An embarrassed scowl creeps onto his face. “Don’t be like that.” He drops the plate loudly onto the space between the two. “It’s edible, if that’s what you were wondering. I know how to cook shit. Niki…” Tommy’s eyes grow distant, fingers twitching, as if moving to punch the treat into oblivion. “She used to bake. A lot. Back in- y’know, back in L’manberg. I learned a bit from her,” he finishes lamely. All the bravado has left him.

“That’s cool, dude,” Purpled replies. “It looks good.”

“Wh- of course it does! I’m poggers at everything I do. That’s why the women love me.” Carefully, the boy flicks strands of white hair away from his eyes. “I’m astonishingly charming.”

There was a time where Tommy’s hair imitated the sunlight, gold and yellow and bursting with happiness. He smiled more. Laughed more, too. Was more brash and insolent; was so willing to see the good in everyone he met.

Now his hair is completely white. His dull eyes flicker around the room and his hands are always, always trembling. Tommy is different from who he was before.

The Tommy and Purpled of before would never have become friends.

“Hold up, let me cut it.” Saying that, the mercenary raises his newly polished sword. Tommy sputters, holding a hand out to stop him.

“Why can’t you use a knife like a normal person!”

Purpled shrugs. “Technically, a sword is a very big knife. It’s… stabby and shit.”

Exasperated, Tommy gets up from his spot in a tangle of long limbs and half-hearted glares. “I’m going to slice this cake like a normal person. It deserves to be treated with respect.”

“We’re going to eat it anyway,” Purpled points out.

The other sniffs indignantly, turning heel to find cutleries. Dogchamp lifts their head in his direction, turning to Purpled, then back again. Slowly, the wolf raises from their sitting position and trots out of the room. Traitor.

From the closed window, lightning streaks through the sky, followed closely by a clap of thunder. It’s loud, Purpled winces. He had expected it but- the sound still makes him jumpy. Rainy days in general are terrible.

The patter of rain against the dirt and harsh concrete pulls out a vivid scene from his memory. Soldiers, rising out of graves, burdened by shiftless armour, heaving up weapons twice their arm span. Thunder imitates piercing shrieks, the blast of an explosion. Raindrops sound like corpses hitting the ground.

Everytime it rains, he recalls that scene with bitter reminiscence; greets it like an old friend who came back to haunt him as an afterthought. It’s not the best way to spend his day.

“You know,” Tommy says, having entered the room when he wasn’t aware, “I got struck by lightning once.”

Distantly, Purpled thinks of raindrops rolling through hair and a shock so bright it electrifies the body. The event he construes in his mind, like always, paints his own death in a morbid way. He wonders if he died, would anyone come visit him? Would there even be a grave?

“That sucks,” the blonde replies.

Tommy gives a non-committal hum, shifting the objects in his arms. In one hand the boy carries a kitchen knife and in the other, a blanket. It’s the one with a UFO print on it—too childish for the purple boy’s tastes, yet too precious to be thrown away.

Once again, the two -three, counting Dogchamp- are back in their original positions. The blanket is draped over Purpled’s lap and he watches, warily, as Tommy’s shaking hands raise the knife. At this point, Purpled would have offered to do it. He nearly does, too, but-

Ten minutes have passed. Eyebrows scrunched, a bead of sweat against his forehead, Tommy tries to steady his grip and cut the cake in equal slices. It doesn’t work. It’s uneven at best, falling apart at worst, but-

None of that matters. He did it.

A ‘good job’ or ‘gg’ sticks on Purpled’s tongue, sincere yet worried of coming off as patronising. Instead, he gives a silent thumbs-up and hopes that conveys all the things he wishes he could say.

Tommy grins. “Eat up before it gets cold, purple boy.” Neither of them mention that it’s definitely not warm anymore, with how long it’s been and how cold the weather is. Obediently, the teenager picks up the tiniest chunk of cake and pops it into his mouth.

Sweet is the first thing that touches his tongue. Honestly, it shouldn’t come as a surprise— Tommy started over-seasoning his food after the prison visit, the same time he came back with a head full of white hair. That, paired with the fact Awesamdude said he had died, creates a sinking feeling in Purpled’s guts. It doesn’t take an idiot to connect the dots.

“Yummy,” he comments. “Delicious. Uhh, what other synonyms are there? Delectable, tasteful-” A choking laugh cuts him off, too loud and too worryingly breathless all at once. “I’ll give this a… hm. Maybe an eight out of ten.”

“I should have gotten full marks,” Tommy says sarcastically. “Glad you like it, though.” Underneath the amusement is the barest form of sincerity, and that’s enough for the both of them.

“Uh-huh! I do.”

Once the rain lets up, the two will part again. Purpled will wash sugar off his fingers, keep the polishing kit in a chest and carry on with his life. That’s how this has always been.

But for now, light from the fireplace casts a glow across their faces, painting a sunset upon Tommy’s self. It’s reminiscent of older days, better days; ones that have long since passed. They’ll never get any of it back—family, homes, the people they once were. All they can do is yearn for what has been lost and move on.

So for now, Purpled stops focusing on the what-ifs and could-have-beens. For now, he relishes in the warmth in his sides as he laughs himself silly. Dogchamp dozes off contentedly. A blanket is shared, covering his and Tommy’s laps, barely offering heat. The half-eaten cake lies between them and his friend is threatening to smash it into his face.

Outside, rain drums against the earth. Neither of them pay it mind.

haha, i feel like i mightve answered some of these in the long ago, but yknow what i LOVE repeating myself repeating myself, LET'S GO <3

1. Is there anything that upsets you about reading fanfiction?

well, not having much time to read fic when im writing upsets me haha (i think im gonna have to start withholding fic for carrots again o no).

mm, there are handlings of/(particularly violent) topics which tend to upset me in stories generally, and ff isn't different?

& certain things can upset (or maybe annoy more?) me cos of prevalence -- for example, beth thinking she’s not attractive/rio wouldnt be attracted to her is pretty commonplace in gg fics. in and of itself a fic which includes that isnt necessarily going to weary me, but ive come across it a lot, often twined with fatphobia and/or ageism so my tolerance is pretty low? see also: beth is violently narratively punished post s2 finale; rhea is a horrible bitch and/or the obstacle which must be overcome to get the brio hea; dean is physically abusive; annie is stupid and annoying; beth learns to become a perfect parent from rio; rio speaks in a special dialogue of his own which is mostly composed of apostrophes; annie/terrible man; canon beth and rio are really good at communicating all of a sudden for no particular reason; amber/dean

4. Have you ever assumed you wouldn’t like a fic and then read it and been very right?

so yes, but more like started reading it and found i was right and stopped. and actually what’s interesting, is that sometimes ive tried the fic again later & liked it! so i think sometimes it’s not so much that i definitively wouldnt like it so much as wouldnt like it AT THAT TIME. (for example, i find lack of punctuation v difficult to parse in a story if im tired, but if im more awake, it doesnt bother me so much)

7. Is there a trope you cannot understand why anyone would like?

nah, i have v few hard lines in the sand really, it’s all abt the execution!

like i personally find daddy kink espec for canon brio pretty unappealing, but ive read some fics where it was tied to a weird parenting kink where i thought it worked well! i’d totes be up for reading fic abt one or both of (particularly canon) them being surprised theyre into it??? and also obvi daddy beth.

also, im told there are ppl other than me in the world with their own tastes, lol.

8. Do you assume you can tell the age of the author (and/or other biographical details) when you’re reading a fic?

yeah, there’s a hopefulness which i tend to associate with youth, lol. but also, one can generally tell when they’re watching/reading something made by a man/white/straight/able-bodied/gentile/cis/thin etc person, right -- i can’t see why ff would be any different?

i’ll notice fluency with a topic i think, but idk that i’d necessarily assume concretely abt that? like if someone writes children or hospitals or driving well im not automatically convinced they’re a parent or medical professional or perennial car thief, but i probs wouldnt be surprised to discover this?

& i can generally tell whether someone’s a native english speaker (you get different types of errors), and i think particularly bc as im not american trying to write americans im quite aware of it, i can tell american authors from brits etc etc etc

13. What is your fave fandom to read fic of, and WHY?

gg! i found gg/fic at a time when i really needed to and it’s a source of cheer

The GG & Li-Ning & Xianjiang Cotton Situation

I was asked to give my opinion. This is also for other bxgs who may have the same sentiment. You don’t have to agree with me but i hope you respect whatever it is I choose to share here. This is my blog and my space. I maintain this out of my pure enjoyment of the fandom and all the good it has given me. So let me address some of the points.

Li-Ning boasts their use of XinJiang Cotton

My simple answer here is, of course they will. This is not something new. Li-Ning is a celebrated olympic medal winning gymnast. A billionaire. You don’t get to that place in CHN w/out supporting the government’s agenda. In this case, that there is no injustice and persecution going on in Xinjiang. This brand, boasting about China made cotton, in their terms, shows patriotism and support for their country. This brand’s literal goal at first was to provide a local brand for Chinese athletes to wear in the Olympics. This is also not the first time that Li-Ning had been called out along w/ other international brands due to questionable ethical practices.

I find it very hard to believe that the timing of GG’s massive Li-Ning ad campaign, coinciding as it has with these Western brand boycotts, was a coincidence.

Let’s get this out of the way. Whether the boycott happened or not, Li-Ning is guaranteed an insane amount of sales because they hired Xiao Zhan. This is the same man who always sells out products in seconds. Who took KXZ to 200% growth and so on. I can talk about stats all day but this massive campaign for him is a no brainer. GG is expensive and a guaranteed success. Any brand who hires him will be stupid to not launch an all out campaign across all cities. Li-Ning knows what they are doing by hiring him. For years, they have been trying to appeal to Gen Z. Especially now that youth in CHN are more and more into the “guochao” (国潮) - National trend. Integrating traditional chinese culture and fashion w/ domestic brands. This ties in with the whole movement of erasing the connotation that made in china is of inferior quality. GG was a good choice. He appeals to the younger generation (19-25) and the working class ( 26 and up ) who buys goods. I would imagine even GG’s team did their research and knows this trend is going on too. This will not be the last you will see of this type of endorsement from him or Web. The rumors on this collaboration was going around as early as, March 15 I think? I was literally asking another bxg if GG’s ad will be pushed back a day or two because of what was happening. or what will this all implies. He was always gonna come out and endorse this brand boycott or not.

I am not removing the possibility that these local brands have a hand in the boycott. It’s a very valid concern. or that, it was a convenient perfect storm for them. A perfect storm of EU, US & CAN sanctioning CHN. The sudden attack on brands’ statements against Xinjiang cotton from a year ago. The whole agenda of controlling the people’s view on what is happening. All of these are connected. sure. There are many things behind the scenes that we will not know but we can make an educated guess of. Li-Ning is not the only domestic brand that had a positive push because of this.

On 3/25 Li-Ning’s stock closed with a high of 10.74% , plus an added 9% on the 26th when GG was announced as ambassador. The same thing happened with Anta and others.

I find it very hard to stomach seeing Li-Ning ads on my dash, regardless of GG’s presence in them. Without condemning him for taking this endorsement deal, and without judging what he is or is not personally aware

I will just be addressing GG’s alleged part in all this. I say that cause we don’t live in his brain and won’t know what he’s thinking. You can all try and project your values on him but he is a whole person of his own. I have hopefully given some view on why GG accepted to endorse this brand in the previous point. GG has spent most if not all, of his life in China. He has repeatedly said that he was brought up traditionally. Tho his father was very encouraging in him participating in the arts and widening his knowledge. He had Foreign professors at CBTU. He is part of the generation that knows what’s going on outside by using the internet. He’s smart. I would guess that he is aware of the country he is living in vs what it’s like outside of it. But at the end of the day, his loyalty will always be with his country. I hate to break it to you all but he will continue to live and thrive as an Actor even without international support. Tho it is great that he is a source of National Pride with how people outside of China love him.

Now, about his support for Xianjiang Cotton. I wanna start by showing this:

It’s a post from People’s Daily wb which boasts all the c-ent top stars that voiced their support of XJ cotton. The sense is, hey people look at your idols supporting the cause. Look at their Patriotism. What do you think will happen if GG was not on this list? Knowing that he is a top star in CHN. Knowing he was just in hot waters post 22*? Knowing that he is actively being endorsed in CCTV which is a National Channel. Are we still surprised that he posted that support? I was just honestly waiting for him to post if anything. I talked before about how C-ent celebrities are expected ( and actually it’s in their law ) to be more morally upright than the lay people. This is prime example of that.

Another one is this from CCTV Wb. I’m including this for you all to have an understanding of how this whole thing is being played out in CHN. This is the type of online narrative that is going around and I would think GG is seeing. The sentiment is,

“No matter what hardships, ups and downs and blows go through in our country, her people will always come from all directions and stand up to speak justice and do just things.”

It’s also showing all the hot searches that is related in support of XJ cotton and defending CHN’s innocence.

Also this video that was heavily circulated showing mechanized picking of cotton vs the allegations of manual.

This is the kind of narrative that is going around, as expected. I don’t really fault GG or condemn him for doing what is best for him. What is the best for an individual does not always mean it’s the best for all. In talks like this, I always try and put myself in their position. I mean, who the hell are these people trying to attack my country? the country that has provided for me. I wanna say I understand where they are coming from but understanding does not mean agreeing. I see these A LOT. ALOT ON WEIBO. The China vs. Everyone story. It’s the notion of, they are attacking us and we must protect the country. Also keep in mind that news is heavily regulated.

You know what type of news the CCP would love for them to get a hold of? The rising attacks on Asians in the US. Oh boy they would fuckin love that! Making America the big/bad asian-hating boogeyman in the eyes of their people yet again.

Okay, now we’re down to the final part of this. Why do I share the promo pics for Li-Ning. Where do i draw the line.

To me it’s simple. It had GG in it. I was waiting for this to come out, and tbh, would you all even know about this brand’s practices if the boycott didn’t happen? No. This is a bjyx blog where i share things about them. That includes ad, dramas, pictures and videos. I understand if people don’t feel comfortable w/ Li-Ning ads and others, so just don’t like those posts. Did I buy anything from the collection? No. Did I buy multiple copies Web’s single Youth in Times ( like i do with his other singles )? No. That’s where I draw the line in this. I know we’re all gonna be put on a tight spot again once Faith Makes Great comes out. Once I saw that leaked pic, Ooohhh! I just know. Also if BAH adds some propaganda about CHN’s war on drugs. I am just waiting. I am ready. I know what my values are. I will not allow other people to dictate who I am. I know what type of content I’m only gonna be sharing.

I see this very forceful air of asking bxgs to take a stand on this ( always bxg, never the other side. always us of course even if we are the minority) and it really puts me off. I read someone say that they will not say anything because they don’t owe strangers on the internet an explanation. Which is true. I have separate spaces that I share my views on world/local issues. Accounts that show my actual name and around people I know in real life. That’s what I choose to do for myself. I started this blog for myself and i still find it very bizarre that people follow this account. I am not some sort of KOL, let’s get that straight. This is just a blog where I talk about things if i want to and SCREAM about GG and Web too much. I will probably not answer any follow up questions on this cause i feel like I have addressed a good chunk of it.

Just know that whatever I post on here in support of GG and his projects does not equate to my entire political/moral stand regarding this event or any. It’s really good that we have conversations like this cause it’s an important one.

a/n: my requests are not open but this was something that has been sitting in my drafts for a while! with school and work getting in the way, my writer’s block has been in full effect lately. although it’s not as steamy, i still hope that you guys enjoy this one! :))

“obi-wan, do you think they’re up there?”

his brow furrows, his lips pursing ever so slightly.

“whatever do you mean, little one?”

“you know,” you suck in a sharp breath, the notes in your tone laced with a wistfulness, an almost youngling-like curiosity, “do you think our fellow jedi are among the stars, watching over us?”

his gaze flickers upwards, towards the blanket of navy stretching across the tatooine night. stars gleam, twinkling from miles and miles away. his lips tug in the corners, curling into a meek smile.

“perhaps.”

“perhaps?” you echo, exhaling, “obi-wan, we both know that there are no ‘perhaps.’ there is, or there isn’t. there are, or there aren’t. we no longer live in world of ‘perhaps.’“

“since when did you dabble into the philosophies of life?” a hearty chuckle rings through the air, “well, if you’re so eager to acquire my answer, then yes. i tend to wonder if they’re up there, keeping watch over us.”

“do you think they’re protecting us?”

the jedi shakes his head, swiftly cutting in, “we must rely on the force to do that.”

“obi-wan,” you murmur, gathering grains of sand between your fingers, “how long has it been?”

he tilts his head, eyes hardening, “have you always been such a chatterbox? what is with all of the inquiries tonight?”

“i am your padawan you know,” a giggle bubbles up in your throat, “surely you know by now that--”

“were.” his harsh tone sends a shiver down your spine, stopping you in your tracks, “you were my padawan.”

your eyes drift upwards, locking with obi-wan’s.

he is no longer the courageous, crafty jedi master you once knew.

he is worn and weary, wrinkles etched across his features, scouring his forehead and the corners of his eyes. the once shiny auburn hair is now peppered with strands of silver, gleaming in the moonlight. once regal robes have been discarded for a life of practicality, drab tones of beige and mocha to conceal the life he once lived.

yet, as you sit beside him, basking in the moonlight, swathed by stars, you notice how you are just like him.

someone who was forced to abandon their entire life, everything they once knew, seeking out safety in exile.

it was a lonely life. one of solitude and normalcy.

but you didn’t want to live it with anyone else.

“what’s going on in that little head of yours?” his voice his edged with a tease.

“oh nothing,” your response is a little too forced, “nothing at all.”

“you know,” he begins, scooting closer to you, “i’m shocked that you’ve put up with my antics for this long.”

“i wouldn’t say they’re antics,” you snort, rolling your eyes playfully, “i’m honestly surprised you didn’t dump me on a random planet and say ‘good luck.’ i can be a thorn in your side at times.”

a hand hovers over your thigh, palm connecting with the fabric, “you’ve always been a thorn in my side. it’s not a new occurrence.”

“you drive me up the wall sometimes, you know that?” you nearly stumble over the words as obi-wan leans in, the space between your lips dissolving.

“i’m fully aware.”

“are you trying to kiss me, obi-wan kenobi?” blood pounds in your ears as your heart races, thudding against your rib-cage.

“would you be utterly disgusted if i was?”

“no,” you shake your head, your lips grazing his, “not at all.”

a hand settles on your neck, gliding upwards, resting on your cheek. fingers lace in your hair as his thumb strokes your heated skin, “i hope you know that i have grown quite attached to you.”

“obi-wan.”

he hums, the tip of his nose brushing against yours, “yes?”

“would you be disgusted if i confessed a secret?”

“not at all.” the sweet scent of berries wafts into your nostrils, the remnants of dessert, “well, it depends on the secret.”

“i love you--”

soft, plush, lips collide with yours, two hands bringing you closer to him, coaxing you to nearly collapse into his arms. ripples of bliss wash over you as your lashes flutter, heart swelling with joy. the gentle kiss unravels as his hands begin to roam, his tongue delving into your mouth.

“you know,” he pauses, pulling away momentarily, “you tend to leave your thoughts open, i can hear them at times.”

“and?” you press, arching a brow.

“i’ve always known of your love for me. i’ve been waiting for the day to hear you say it.”

you wrinkle your nose, a giddy grin plastering your lips, “oh really?”

“yes, love. now would you rather me take you to the bed or stay here under the stars?”

Ni hao. I'm a baby turtle and trying to keep up.. any recent candies that are hard facts and not fandom or delulu? People are comparing to past pics and not recent ones and recently Y has been very silent on the 🍬... I can't help to think they've moved on...

I've been around for a couple of years and this is one of the most common perspectives I see from new turtles. "Is there any proof? Is there anything new and recent? Everyone seems to be talking about old things, I don't think it's real or current."

I will say this again, because I can't find my old posts where I answered this question: there is no such thing as proof in this fandom. There is no such thing as fact. There is no such thing as absolute certainty.

If you're looking for any or all of those things, you've come to the wrong place. This isn't of fandom of facts and certainties. If you need any sort of certainty in order to enjoy this fandom, or if you're one of those people whose emotions rise and fall on the basis of whether or not you feel sure that they are a real couple, you probably will not enjoy being a BXG. Go find a fandom of a couple that's openly married or something.

Everything we do here is clowning, speculation and simple enjoyment of GG and DD. These are two people who are highly unlikely to ever come out publicly as a couple, and are legally unable to marry. We may never have certainty.

As for people basing their belief on 'old material', that is simply untrue. There have been many things that have happened in recent weeks and months that show they are still an item. And candy aside, if they were ever to break up it would be abundantly obvious to everyone. There would be no room for doubt.

When it comes to proofs and candies, that's something that you will gradually become more and more aware of as you become more familiar with the fandom. As that happens, you will either become convinced that they are a real couple, or you will not, but it is no one's job or role to convince you or to set a bunch of proofs in front of you.

It is possible that you will continue in this fandom and begin to become more familiar with what is going on, and begin to develop a belief that they are real. It's also possible that no matter what you see, you still won't believe. That is entirely your journey to undertake.

We are not here to make a case or to convince anyone. We are not here to lay out a PhD thesis in front of every single person that comes through. We are just here to support and love them and enjoy being Turtles. You can join us or not. That is your decision.

There's absolutely no need to believe they are real couple, either. You can still be just as happy as a turtle without believing. A huge number of turtles do not believe for a hot second that they're are real couple.

My advice to you if you do want to continue on, is to let go of any need for certainty and just enjoy GG and DD. Enjoy talking about them, enjoy supporting them, and enjoy the content they put out.

Certainty will come or it will not, but the one absolute truth that I can tell you is that GGDD are amazing, beautiful people inside and out, and that's all we really need to concern ourselves with.

Whatever you decide, I hope you have fun, Anon. That's what fandom is all about. 😊

Hi Torra! I had so much more fun writing these than expected. Sky Island was actually one of the arcs I didn’t care much for, and even after watching the arc twice I barely remember what happened. I expected writing for the Shandorians to be hard but the words actually came really easily and I managed to write these in one go! I hope you’ll enjoy them ❤

Wyper

Wyper’s focus has been battle for so long, once the war is over he’s not sure what to do with himself for a while. Due to the constant threat being gone he can now finally relax, something he’s not used to.

As he’s looking for a way to fit into this new era of peace, you come across his path and it doesn’t take long for you to dominate his thoughts. This is a new sensation for Wyper. He’s never had the time for relationships and now suddenly he did, and there was you.

Wyper is not scared though, not of a relationship and not of confession. He’ll confess to you pretty soon after he realises his feelings for you.

Fully aware of his somewhat more violent and impulsive past, Wyper is determined not to let those tendencies return in your relationship. He’ll be extra careful with you and he’ll do whatever he can to treat you right.

Laki

Laki is a gentle soul, and the only reason she was participating in the war was that it was necessary. Both for the people of Sky Island and for the Shandorians, as well as to protect the people she loved, like Kamakiri and Aisa.

Once the war is over, Laki feels like she can finally breathe again, and her cheerful personality shines even brighter, causing people to flock to her. Yet the only one who caught her eye was you.

At first she’s careful, taking her time to get to know you. Laki does not want to rush into a relationship, only to be disappointed because you didn’t match up after all.

Once the two of you are together, be prepared to be spoiled. VERY spoiled. Laki’s love is 100% devotion and she’ll do anything to make you happy. There will be little presents, small displays of affection at random moments and of course, lots of food, made with lots of love.

On certain nights, when the memories of the war come flooding back to her, she’ll seek out the warmth of your embrace in silence. She doesn’t want to talk about it, she just needs someone to ground her, to remember that it’s over now.

Kamakiri

Kamakiri was born and raised in war. He was used to following Wyper’s crazy orders in a crazy time, where everyone did crazy things. The things he saw during those years haunt his dreams, even long after the war is over.

His main concern is making sure his fellow warriors are doing well and are finding their place in this new era of peace. War or peace, Kamakiri’s love for his companions doesn’t fade, and helping them find their place becomes his new mission. Once they’re all well though, it’s his turn, and he’s not quite sure what his place is.

That’s where you came in, showing him his place is wherever he wanted it to be. It doesn’t take long for him to realise he wants his place to be next to you, and he confesses to you pretty fast.

Kamakiri shows his love with lots of physical affection and words of affirmation. Your touch is addicting to him, a soft kind of touch that was foreign to him until the war ended. He’ll be on the borderline of clingy, but if you need some space you need but say the word. The well-being of those he cares about is still his main concern.

Braham and Genbo below the cut!

Braham

During the war, Braham was merciless, doing whatever it took to reach his, and Wyper’s, goal. Instead of the peace of mind he had expected to get after the war was over, he found himself becoming more restless with each day, unsure of what he could do besides fighting.

That’s when he meets you. You help him, you calm down that racing head of his, you know how to deal with his anxiety and his nightmares. Every day he starts caring for you more and more, and he scares himself once he realises just how much he started caring about you in such a short time.

Confessing will not come easy for him. He believes you deserve better, stronger, more stable, but after a little convincing from Laki, he will confess. When you tell him you feel the same way, he has no idea how to react. He didn’t expect you would.

The early relationship will be hard, as even the littlest touches can make him jump if he doesn’t see them coming. Memories from the war still haunt him. Slowly, with a lot of patience and love, he will get better, get used to the touches, and the memories of the war will get replaced with memories of you.

Genbo

Not many people know much about Genbo. He mostly keeps to himself, choosing to listen to and observe other people instead of speaking. His observation skills have saved his hide more than once during the war. The fact that it’s over now pleases him greatly, the goal he had been fighting for having finally been reached.

There is one problem, and that is that he can’t get rid of the things he saw during the war. The memories haunt him and him not talking about it with anyone only makes matters worse. Even when he meets you, even when he realises he falls in love with you, it’ll take him a long time to confess to you. He’s a horrible overthinker, and it really drags him down.

But eventually, with a lot of patience, he’ll get there and the two of you get together. Genbo often brings you little thoughtful gifts. Things you said you liked, even if you said it only once. He pays attention to all the details, remembers all the important dates and notices shifts in your mood immediately.

He’ll pick the words he uses to express his love for you very carefully. The fact that he’s usually pretty quiet already adds more weight to his every word, so he’s hoping to pick the right words as well to best express his feelings for you.

Thoughts on GG 4x3 Fall Guy

Things I did not enjoy:

Phoebe...

I’m sorry but we really said goodbye to Turner for... Phoebe? I know some would root for her to turn on her shitty FBI co-worker but that wouldn’t make her interesting. It would look desperate. xD I don’t know. I wouldn’t mind her being on track when it comes to Beth. But the reasons why she suspects Beth fall flat to me.

But now things might turn and I’m also weirdly looking forward to what’s gonna happen since she found that letter Beth left. *sigh* Why didn’t Beth think of that?

Beth’s new bed

The only good thing it. got character but dang it it’s so ugly and I will never not notice. LMAO

Fitzpatrick Part 1

Being the creepy dude he is. Like... ewww... The fact he is like “oh but WHY do you not want to go with me to the Fijis?”. I mean it’s not like Beth’s husband is in prison right now and she got 4 kids to take care of but whatever. And she said “NO”. But hey... creepers gonna be creepy.

So but then, Beth tells him exactly that... and... continue in the what I liked section here...

Thing I would’ve enjoyed if done differently:

Did I need those flashbacks with Dean to understand why Beth is staying with him?

No, I don’t think I needed it to know why she is staying with Dean because Beth herself verbally said why she stays with him in many episodes. But I also think we need to remember the majority of the viewers are casual viewers who don’t watch the episodes like fandoms do and casual viewers sometimes need everything to get spelled out for them. But I also think casual viewers aren’t dumb and sometimes writers should just trust them to know and understand things and circumstances.

I also think I would’ve liked it more if the flashbacks had included Beth’s relationship with her father or the non-existence of the very same. I think the reason why women tend to stay with men who are not good for them is because: they have a dysfunctional family (problematic mother, problematic father or both combined), they’re dependent on men, those men resemble the father or the women want to fix something that was broken in their own family (e.g. not having a father but wanting a family and a father for their own children).

But we didn’t get that. And I think it’s a shame the writers focus a great deal on showing Dean was the only good guy Beth knew at that time hence why she chose him when it would’ve been more interesting to explore the reason WHY Beth thought Dean was the only seemingly decent person.

Also, just because Dean was a nice guy back then doesn’t make his cheating and lying okay. And it doesn’t mean Beth needs to stay with him. If anything it worries me that the writers apparently think “look because he was nice back and he basically “saved” Beth and gave her stability, she needs to stay with him forever”. That’s not the case. As I said before if the writers adore Matthew Lillard so much, they can keep him, even as the ex-husband. Just a thought.

However, I think the flashbacks were filmed nicely as some already mentioned. And I liked the casting.

Things I enjoyed:

Kenny

I know some people missed it but Kenny is away for a tournament which explains why it seems Beth and Dean only got 3 children. The show explained it right away, so thankfully Kenny won’t disappear like Buddy did. xD

Dean not buying Beth’s “I love you”

You know I don’t like Dean but I kind of enjoy he isn’t buying Beth’s “I love you” anymore. I mean he is the last person to call her out because he cheated on her and told her he loves her after she found out to manipulate her as well but I just like we see Dean not buying it. Because WHO is actually still buying it when Beth is telling Dean “I love you”.

Ruby and Annie having priorities

I love how they’re like “Hey, you got 4 kids!” like even to them Dean isn’t a father who deserves to be out of prison.

On a sidenote: Ruby aka Retta is looking extra gorgeous this season. Oh MY!

Whatever is going on with Stan

Look I always wanted for Stan and Rio to team up. So please let it happen. But also whatever happens in the club, “the little bitch” and the “big bitch” this could have potential.

But I hope he doesn’t develope a drinking problem and I don’t need the tension between him and Ruby. But also kind of enjoy he got now secrets of his own.

Found the whole mom situation in the flashbacks more interesting than Dean

I think you deleted the post @medievalraven but I think there might be something going on with Beth’s and Annie’s mom which is more related to (TRIGGER WARNING) depression and suicidal thoughts. Which is actually a whole lot more interesting to explore than what a nice guy Dean was back then.

And it would play into what I said earlier. That whatever is going on in Beth’s family made her the person she is now and would explain why she acts in certain ways and why she is unable to leave Dean (except the writers apparently don’t WANT her to leave Dean as of now).

And whatever has been going on at home explains why Annie turned out the way she was back then and still is - especially when it comes to Dean.

Annie and Ben

As you know, I barely relate with Annie but I always enjoyed the most her relationship with her son and if the writers are doing anything right it’s writing this arc properly. It’s normal for Ben to want to stay with his father but at the same time it breaks my heart for Annie.

Fitzpatrick Part 2

Beth going off was everything I needed right now. Thank you, Beth, for telling him where your limits are!

And what a douchebag is Fitzpatrick to be like “oh but I thought you wanted more from your life”. We love guilt-tripping men - NOT. Just look at Dean. I mean... c’mon! Also for him to be like “but you hired me”... Yeah, she did hire you but not sending the message “I also want sex with you.” What is this guy!?

However, I would buy Beth’s speech a little more if she would pair it up with actions. Like divorcing Dean and you know the drill. It would be so much more consistent than having her say one thing but not living up to it. I mean on the other hand now she is somewhat tied to him because Dean plead guilty but still... We’re going in circles a little bit.

Rio/Brio

You know I know the pool table scene is splitting the fandom as always. And I’m just grateful I can watch the scene and enjoy it as a shipper but also enjoy it as a viewer.

I liked the whole “negotiation” between Beth and Rio. Rio did a really low blow when he told Beth if Dean is released from prison 3 years later he might be in better shape and even wanting to “hit it again”. I think we all know why Dean and Beth aren’t working out anymore on a sexual basis and so does Rio, so while Rio might be correct it was a low blow.

But I also enjoy how Rio doesn’t care one bit about Dean. He never did - since season 1. And Dean being a shitty husband and a even shittier businessman is playing a huge part in it. And I like Rio doesn’t even pretend to care.

But he still gives into her pleading. I know some people think he is already over Beth shooting him and maybe that’s the case but in Rio’s case that doesn’t mean he can’t be petty by pulling away the stick. It’s like him saying “I gave you the gun once and I won’t do it again and this is me retaining control. You play this game and we see where it goes with the money.” He is challenging Beth and he knows she would take the challenge.

At the same time, and some of my mutuals noticed it as well, I got 2x9 bedroom vibes which is weird. Especially since there are many mutuals who didn’t feel it or read the scene differently or didn’t like it at all.

The way he looked at her after pulling away the stick. There is a lack of music which I don’t think was a conscious choice unlike it was in the bedroom scene in 2x9 but it still heightened the tension of the scene. And then there suddenly is music and it’s melancholic almost.

Then of course Rio “teaching” Beth how to play pool, handson. And this is where it gets interesting for me. I know a lot of people read this scene differently or it left a different impression.

For me: I always thought that both Beth and Rio are having very mixed feelings right now for eachother. Mostly confused anger. Anger for obvious reasons and confusion because that despite the anger they can’t stop whatever their relationship is and whatever their feelings might be.

And I think in season 3, Rio never really touched Beth. Except for when he showed up alive and did the hair thing and then when he put his hand over hers when she wanted a drink and he thought she was pregnant.

I think this... Rio leaning over Beth and then smelling her. A smell he knows too well and once probably loved. This is the first time he is this close to her again. And same for her, I think that little headshake was mostly her being a little startled but also becoming very aware of his closeness.

And it’s so interesting to see how Rio steps back and does this shoulder roll. It’s like he was suddenly aware of what he was doing and somewhat wanted to shake it off.

And just a little note: the ball had the number 8 on it which can be read as “forever” or “eternity”. Me reading too much into it. :P

Then the moment is over but I just love the moment of joy after Beth winning the challenge and for Rio as well. And then it quickly goes back to business. I think if they’re doing anything well it’s that Brio right now is very much split into two halfs. And for me of course I know the hitman plan is still going which is baffling to me. So of course this dampens any excitement I might have during Brio scenes.

Even though, we can safely say they won’t go through with the hitman plan, and especially now when Beth has hurt Fitzpatrick’s ego. He was pretty calm but I feel like he will mess up on purpose. I don’t think FItzpatrick takes rejection well. Just my thoughts on that. He was way too calm for someone who would hurt a person over raw salmon.

So one big reason why I commented in the first place because I thought of you as some crazy shipper, but after talking to you for a while I saw it's not really true. That was purely me being wrong and I apologise. I just went through your whole pinned post and a lot of it was stuff that I already expected and I still don't think I can change you mind but really, a lot of that stuff is things that friends could do. 1/?

Getting dinner together, giving somebody a necklace etc. friends can do that too. Some might even see it as an elaborate marketing strategy. You see it as romantic, because you want to. And most of the stuff, like posting something at a certain date or time of the day or changing song lyrics is just pure speculation. They might be coincidence. Some things might not even have anything to do with them together but something completely else. 2/? You say that you try to not see hints where there are none, but stuff like that, analyzing dates and looking for clues in what exact time of the day a certain thing was posted in sm is just that.You see those things as romance because you want to see them as such, not because they objectively are. That's exactly it, seeing things where there are none. 3/3

I said this more than once already but I am open to having my mind changed. If I didn't, I wouldn't ask for discussions in my pinned post. To have a proper discussion, though, both parties should 1) have the same amount of knowledge on the subject, 2) leave their emotions out of it and 3) be open to the possibility of being wrong. So again; I am open to having a rational discussion about this. If you aren’t, please let me know.

Of course they can. But do friends feel the need to be secretive about it? When it comes to their dates in June 2018 and December 2019, they spent the night together. Not to mention, they went out of their way to spend 520 - Lunar Valentine's Day - together. Would friends do that? Right after the date in Dec 2019, Yibo wore a pink hoodie to the airport, which as far as we know was the first time he wore pink of his own volition. In his interview with Cosmo two months later, he got asked "what's the first thing that comes to your mind when hearing the word romance?" and his reply was "pink pink". Cp fans think this means that gg was the one who gave him that hoodie since dd himself doesn't like pink. But even if he didn't receive it from gg, Yibo must have been in a romantic mood to be wearing pink - and that, after being with XZ, his “friend”. Regarding the necklace, if it was given by a friend, then why does Yibo constantly wear it yet hide it? To compare, he wears the necklace and ring Han-ge gave him at any event/recording and he wears those openly, too, the way you're supposed to wear jewelry, right? He wears the ox head necklace at events and also in private, in selfies, in between schedules, during rehearsals etc and he started hiding it, i.e. wearing it under his shirts, after fans started fighting about it. Surely, you know that Yibo is an honest/straightforward/blunt person. If we cp fans were wrong with our theory, he would definitely call us out and simultaneously please his solo fans by telling them they're right, thus putting an end to drama among his fans - but he hasn't. The only thing that explains this is assuming he received it from a romantic partner cuz being involved is something that Yibo’s company would not allow him to go public with so instead, he has to hide the necklace as well as his relationship. Likewise, he surely wouldn’t be wearing the necklace all the time if the one who gave it to him wasn’t even closer to his heart than Han-ge is.

Some might even see it as an elaborate marketing strategy.

Marketing what exactly? CQL is over and done with and they don't have other projects together. Not to mention that their connection has brought more harm to their reputations than good and they have way more solo fans than cp fans. Thinking ggdd would go through so much or any trouble just to give credibility to a lie implies that they do it for clout (which neither of them needs or wants) or that they think that queer relationships is something to make fun of or else, that they have no integrity. What exactly is it about them that makes you think they would be such people? They both starred in a BL. Yibo even insisted on trying for that role although he got rejected twice. XZ has shown his support of the lgbt community before. Given Yibo’s entire attitude and e.g. his song lyrics in WuGan, he doesn’t care about fame/clout. He does what he’s passionate about because he’s passionate about it and for money, according to himself. And I don’t think I even need to point out why XZ has clearly no need for more attention. (In fact, his studio asked fans in a recent statement to stop their fan support and voting etc - as a result, his supertopic dropped several spots from the #1, after having been there for months).

And most of the stuff, like posting something at a certain date or time of the day or changing song lyrics is just pure speculation. They might be coincidence.

So what is the limit? How many coincidences do there need to be exactly for them to stop being coincidences? How can posting something at precisely minute 3 or minute 8 always be a coincidence? Especially when XZ wrote in an older weibo post that he uses kadian. He posted at 13:28 in two of his latest updates. On TTXS, Yibo got asked what romantic things he’d do for his partner and he literally said he’d remember certain dates and times and do something surprising. In a more recent weibo, Yibo made a post in support of Han-ge at precisely 21:00 - the kadian of which means "ai ni", love you. He once posted an ad for his mobile game at 18:21 which means "Yi Bo ai ni" and which could have been directed at his fans. Some of their kadian might be but not all of them are reaching and the sheer quantity of all the kadian they've been using proves that those are not coincidences either. Regarding the changing of song lyrics, yes those are speculation. Gg never actually said he'd do that. But the circumstances around those is what makes it seem meaningful. And that time when he changed the lyrics to have the letters ybxz in the beginnings of lines seems meaningful and obvious enough as is.

Of course that is a possibility and one that I am well aware of. I can and do obviously only base my judgement on what we see and know. If there’s something I don’t know that would somehow make my pov wrong, I would be willing to admit that and change my mind. When it comes to things like XZ, changing lyrics to ybxz or Yibo, posting at 10:05 (gg’s birthday) or talking about ordering clothes home to share and then seeing gg in those clothes or gg posting at times that have Yibo’s name or dd, posting at times that have XZ’s name - make it unmistakable to me that they are each other’s special someone and not anyone else’s. Since those things only fit each other.

You see those things as romance because you want to see them as such, not because they objectively are. That's exactly it, seeing things where there are none.

At the beginning of your message, you apologized for assuming I’m a crazy shipper but you end the message with this. “Seeing things where there are none” is what I’d consider crazy shipping so that last sentence sounds like an insult to me. I don’t know what to make of this, lol. Your assumption that I want to see those things as romance is wrong. They’d have it soooo much easier if they were just friends, why in God’s name would I want them to have it more difficult? They wouldn’t feel the need to hide so much, to be so distant in public. We’d probably get fanservice and selfies and joined endorsements. The scandal from February may not have ever happened cuz they’d definitely have fewer cp fans. It’d be awesome if they were nothing more than friends. Not to mention that making wrong claims about a relationship between two real people, solely based on what my desires are, is selfish - it’s about what I want instead of what is. I do not have that attitude. The fact that I wanted to believe they’re just friends is precisely why it took me several months to concede that I must be wrong. I kept dismissing all that I saw as coincidences or as platonic. I do not want ggdd to be lovers but I also don’t want to deny reality. I know that my perception may be fallible, though, so of course I am open to discussing this. I would welcome being proven wrong about this. You don’t properly back up your claims and your arguments don’t take all that we know into consideration. Which is why so far, at least, you haven’t made me see differently.
