All right look I can listen to "True Destroyer of Worlds," Void's final boss them from Kirby Star Allies, and be PERFECTLY FINE until they bring out the sad "Green Greens" melody
Like why would you hurt me with such beauty, why would you twist the knife of nostalgia with the chiptune section so reminiscent of the original game, WHY WOULD YOU STRANGLE ME WITH THE VIOLIN AND CONCUSS ME WITH THE PIANO IT HURTS I LOVE IT SO SO MUCH AUGH
10/10 final boss theme, gotta be up there with "C-R-O-W-N-E-D" and "Mind in a PROGRAM"
Top-tier, would sob miserably in a ball of fangirl at 3 in the morning again

Hi Amy! I just wanted to pop by to tell you just how much I love your IF.
Like, I've always had a soft-spot for band/music-related content (e.g. Choice of the rock star was actually one of the first games I ever bought/played in this genre, despite all its flaws) and THEN you come in (like a wrecking ball) with the most stunning, well-written, richly-layered, beautifully-crafted band-IF of all time!!!
I never stood a chance, really. Also can I just say that the way you set up MC and Seven Lawless's backstory and the tension between them now—I loved every minute of it. [I really liked how you revealed it piece by piece (and it still has more to give)—real masterclass writing right there, god.] And, the conflict/reason for their break-up is heartbreaking and so real and understandable.
And ALL of the characters are so loveable and multi-dimensional and just fun to be around. The story/world too is so immersive. I could gush about how much I love the IF for hours and hours but yeah, suffice to say I absolutely can't wait for Chapter 2.
All the best with your writing, and take care of yourself! <3
ALLIE <333 thank you so much! It means a lot coming from you especially since both CT:OS and Merry Crisis are my favs! (Qiu is one of my top fav ROs across the board 🥲)
The way you’ve written the dynamics and the web of relationships with all your characters is not only so well done but so fun to read and it really immerses you. Your writing is so good and I love all your characters and I’m always checking out your posts and updates because I am ITCHING for more 😢 so happy to see you getting so much love, you deserve it!!!
Can’t wait for more and whenever you have other stories or literally anything you write I will gladly consume it all *grabby hands*

Hi Teecup!
I hate to add to your pile of asks, but I've just started watching Star Trek TNG and it made me wonder... what about a AssCreed × Star Trek crossover?
To be more precise, the kind of crossover I'm thinking of is one where we take the characters of AC and mix them with the premise of Star Trek, so everyone is hanging out on a starship and getting dragged into random adventures on a weekly basis.
We can separate the Assassins and Templars into Starfleet and Romulans if we want to keep the fight between the two going, though I'm actually more interested in seeing a situation where there is no reason to fight so those factions no longer exist, and everyone is allowed to interact and make friends with whoever they wish.
Also since I want to keep the joke of isekai protagonist Desmond going, maybe he gets transported into this parallel universe after dying and finds himself face to face with the Star Trek versions of all his ancestors, as well as... himself?
As long as you don't mind the long wait to get to your asks, just pile them in my asks hahahaha
We do have this Q is Desmond’s real father idea before because William Miles’s voice actor played Q and that includes Desmond getting sent to Stark Trek ‘verse.
So for this one, we’re going for AC cast in Star Trek but with the caveat that Desmond gets transported there from his previous world just to annoy him (and probably save his life but he can never be sure about that)
For this one, I like the idea that the Templars and Assassins have finally buried the hatchet because one of the main point of Star Trek (especially the early ones) is that humanity managed to unite. Of course, we can still make some of the Templars Romulans if we want to preserve the ‘antagonist’ route but imagine Desmond’s “????” whenever he learns that Templars he knew as super bad news have formed relationships with the Assassins ranging from “I don’t want to ally with them but they’re good at their job” to “besties!”
Desmond would feel a bit weirded out when Ezio just sigh when he learned they would be allying with a ship that has Cesare Borgia as a high ranking officer. He knows that Cesare’s probably on their side but he’s curious why Ezio looked less like he wants to kill him and more like he’s already tired just thinking about dealing with him.
Then he learned the reason why Ezio looked like that.
‘Allegedly’, Ezio slept with Cesare’s sister, Lucrezia Borgia during one of their downtime in the Borgia’s home planet. And nooooo, this wasn’t a case of “You fucked my sister, you must die!” revenge story. That would not have been complicated enough for Ezio’s messy love life. The problem was… Cesare didn’t get to join Ezio and his sister. Yeah, that’s it. Cesare wasn’t angry at Ezio. He was trying to get in Ezio’s pants (“Of course, we’ll invite my sister”) and Ezio is just… he’s done. He’s soooo done with everything. Fuck being the primary communication liaison of the crew. He’s gonna hide in his room and call his BFF back in his homeplanet (there’s a bet going on if said BFF was “the one who got away” – No that was his childhood sweetheart Cristina- or the “he doesn’t know he’s in love with his BFF or vice versa”)
My primary idea for the crew and a little bit of sprinkled lore:
The name of the ship would probably be Aquila to hammer in the bird motif. Another sorta weird names would be names used to talk about a group of eagles like convocation or eyrie or aerie. Or just go for Alamut which some call “Nest of Eagles”.
Edward Kenway is the Captain. He can be Haytham’s father and Ratonhnhaké:ton’s grandfather, a humanoid with long life and a thirst for adventure. In this life, he’s drinking buddies with Alaya and is also friends with Roberts. To make it funnier, he’s actually John Standish’s godfather (who is the son of Roberts and Haytham’s childhood friend)
Haytham is the First Officer because the entire crew (including his father) lives to make his life stressful. He’s married to Kaniehtí:io and their eldest joined the crew. There’s joke of nepotism because of this but it’s all said in a teasing manner because the Kenway men gets the job done. He trained Charles Lee (and the rest of his Templar Order) when they were fresh new ‘graduates’ so they like to call him Master Kenway.
Ratonhnhaké:ton is the Navigator and is being trained to be the Helmsman by the current Helmsman Adéwalé. He can usually be found talking to Ezio or Aveline. He’s really good at combat so he mostly join offworld missions which is why…
Aveline is the second Navigator in case Ratonhnhaké:ton is offworld. She’s also their offworld liaison if Ezio is not available. Sometimes, she also takes over the Communications Officer’s jobs. The crew is not entirely sure what her actual job is??? (Her parents divorced and her mother is alive. She and her stepmother are close as well and her stepmother is the Captain of another ship)
Adéwalé is the Helmsman and he had been ‘sailing’ with Edward for so long that Edward rarely had to give specific orders. Adéwalé is already doing what Edward wanted. It gives Haytham a headache because ‘communication’ is important, especially for reports and such. Adéwalé takes Ratonhnhaké:ton under his wing and Ratonhnhaké:ton calls him Uncle Ade.
The Science (technically called Research and Development Department) Division is under Altaïr’s complete control and no Kenway can go against him. He wants to go offworld to research one thing or another, he’s joining the offworld team. He wants them to take a pit stop in one of the colonies or world for materials or something, the ship would change course. Desmond didn’t even question it when he heard of it. He just said “… yeah, that sounds about right.” and moved along. The funny thing? Altaïr isn’t the Chief Science Officer. That’s the long suffering Malik Al-Sayf. Altaïr’s official position is “Second Officer”. He has an academic rivalry going on with Robert de Sablé and he still sends letter to his grandfather who is a high ranking government official of the United Federations of Planet.
Ezio is the Chief Communications Officer and he’s always part of the offworld teams (unless something comes up). He comes from a long line of Starfleet officers. His siblings are stationed in other ships and his father is a member of the United Federations of Planet.
Shay is the Security Chief and it is the second most stressful job (after Haytham) trying to keep the peace and order of the ship (okay, that’s an exaggeration). Most of the time, he just makes sure everyone is okay and safe whenever shit hits the fan. He’s pretty chill and is Haytham’s drinking buddy. He still writes to his mentor Achilles who taught him everything and to his childhood friend who joined another ship Liam.
Arno is part of the Chief Tactical Officer and he has a close professional relationship with Evie and Altaïr mainly because those two takes care of weapon upgrade… and other… uuuhh… ‘stuff’ their missions might need. He has a fiancee who is a high ranking officer of Starfleet.
Evie is the Chief Engineering Officer and is Altaïr’s number one supporter. Edward once joked that if Altaïr was to mutiny, they would be fucked because Evie would be first in line in shutting down all the engines and any security procotol they have in place. Ezio would like to stress it was more of a ‘mentor and student’ kind of thing. Desmond learned that Altaïr also had his hands on the Engineering Department and is like “yeah, that tracks too.” Evie has a rivalry going on with Lucy Thorne and her twin would just comment that they should sleep together once and get it over with.
Jacob is usually the captain of the offworld team unless a higher ranking officer joins then he’s the vice-captain. Close to Arno because he’s always asking for new ‘toys’ to play with. May or may not have a son who may or may not be adopted called Jack. The crew isn’t sure if he’s Jacob’s son or his protege.
I’m missing a few more main characters and the modern day characters so uuuhh… they’re there, I just couldn’t think of a position for them XD.
(I kept their species vague so you can make them any race you want. I will suggest that Altaïr be half-Vulcan though because he feels very Vulcan-ish but, honestly, pick whichever feels right for you or what would make you go “you know what would be fun”? XD)

Th Black phone Headcanons
Tumblr media
Fandom: the black phone
Tags: hcs, fluff, some angst on Vances hcs
Word count: 1192
A/n: I've been hyperfixated on this movie for at least a month and I'm finally posting about it. these are some of the Headcanons I have for the black phone currently. I'll probably make a part 2
Sexuality hcs don't shit on me for this. If you don't like the thought of gay people in the 70s personally evaluate and ask why the hell you're mad
• Finney - bisexual
Gwen - an aggressive straight Ally. She'll pop anyone in the mouth that disrespects Finney she already does but she'll do it twice as hard if it's cus his sexuality
Robin - homie kisser
Vance - another homie kisser (they're just like me fr)
Bruce - bisexual
Griffin - either unlabeled or straight. On one hand he seems the type to not care what your gender is he just likes you but on the other I don't see him liking boys so idk I'm still contemplating
Billy - straight Ally (I'm sorry but I don't see him liking dudes romanticly. Ik I'm crushing every Biffin shipper rn 💀)
• Finn's favorite color is blue
• Robin's favorite color is green
• Gwen's favorite color is pastel pink. She always tells Finney that Yes there's a difference between pastel pink and regular pink
• Vances favorite color is also blue but he likes more darker blues while finney likes lighter blues
• Billy's favorite color is red
• Griffins favorite color is orange
• Gwen did ballet when she was around 7 but stopped doing it when her mom died
• Gwens favorite book series is Nancy Drew & her favorite movie is wizard of oz
• Billy & Griffin are absolute little shits together. Billy's the shit talker Griffin's the instigator
• Vance violently brushes his teeth. Like the bristles on the brush are flared 💀
• Bruce is an avid Michael Jackson enjoyer so is Robin
• Robin is a absolute horror nut. (In a modern au he'd love analog horror the walten files I feel he'd especially like. Also in a modern au he'd force Finney to play fnaf with him) besides Texas chainsaw massacre he definitely likes Halloween & Friday the 13th (if he was still alive that is 💀)
Rip Robin you would've loved Rob zombie ✊😔
• Vance is constantly getting into arguments with his teacher in one way or another. The only teacher that isn't on his ass is his English teacher which is his favorite. She's basically like a 2nd mother to him of course he'd never tell her that. He acts all tough in that class but the minute everyone leaves he somewhat dials it back when she tells Vance he did well today and he actually got a passing grade on one of his tests totally not projecting here
• Vance: "ur mom"
Finney: "my mom's dead"
Vance: "damn my fault 💀"
• Billys dogs name is Goldie
• when star wars was realesed Finney absolutely loved the movies and dragged Robin to see them with him
• speaking of Star wars one Halloween Finney & Gwen dressed as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia
• Vances childhood dog was a bloodhound
• Speaking of Vance he had a pretty rough childhood. I heard that he's a Canon mamas boy so I'm using that as well. He grew up with an abusive and alcoholic father who'd constantly abused him and his mom. He'd always tried to intervene and protect his mom causing him to get hurt. Afterwards his mother would just comfort him as best she could and tell that he shouldn't involve himself when his parents argued. His mom got so fed up with it that she left Vance and his dad when he was 8. She didn't want to leave him but she was so emotionally and mentally drained she just left on impulse. Vance doesn't exactly hate his mom for it cus he knows it probably would've been worse for her if she stayed, but a part of him does resent her for it and wonders sometimes why she couldn't just take him with her.
• the choker he wears was actually his mom's. it's the only thing he had that she left so it has pretty sentimental value.
• Vance has a 6 year old sister named Tara. When he went missing she was basically the only one looking for him. She'd go on her scooter after school everyday around the neighborhood and stay up late watching the news to see if she could get any information. Tara was up when the news stated he was found dead and cried knowing she'd never see her brother again.
Anyways sorry for the sad Vance hcs back to our regular scheduled programming
• Tara's just as foul mouthed and intimidating as her brother. The minute she talks it throws people off bc a little girl calling someone "fuckhead" is definitely something they weren't expecting. kicks anyone in the balls if they mess with Vance or his pinball machine. Gwen absolutely loves her and hangs out with her alot. She's basically like another older sibling for her. Whenever Vance is playing pinball she's either outside playing ball next to the Grab n Go or sitting next to him let's pretend there's a chair next to the pinball machine lol drawing in a coloring book.
• Vance refers to his dad as old man
• Vance love life is interesting to say the least. He doesn't feel like he needs a relationship but wouldn't mind having one. Tho he's not gonna be romantic at all about it 💀 i mean he's not gonna be a dick to his s/o and he'd try to be romantic but he's not gonna call them pet names and be all flowery. a date with Vance is just watching him play pinball tbh
• Vance either is in a band or wants to start one. If he hasn't started one yet he'd never admit to his friends that he wants to make one
• Vances favorite holiday is Halloween so is Robins cus he loves horror sm every year he and his friends wear costumes to scare kids trick or treating
• Modern au: Finney & Gwen don't have cable tv so if they wanna watch shows from CN, nickelodeon etc they go to Robins house (Totally not projecting again) Finney's favorite show is the amazing world of gumball Robins is regular show. Gwen's favorite show is Craig of the creek and her favorite character is Kelsey. When it comes to non cable tv Finney & Gwens favorite show is Mr Rogers neighborhood
• Modern Au: Finney watches game/film theory. Robin watches it with him sometimes but only if it's horror movie/video games
• Vance can't ride a bike for shit. His mom tried teaching him before she left but he couldn't get his balance
• Robin is a roller skating/skating pro. He can do different tricks and flips and Finney always wonders how he does it without busting his ass. One time Robin tried teaching him to skate and ended up falling. Robin found it funny until he saw the giant gash on his hand
• Gwen uses pinkie promises. She's aggressive with them too. she'll be holding her Pinky to Finn "YOU PROMISE? 😠" and he'll say "yeah yeah I promise 😒"
• Modern Au: Gwen has a rainbow loom and makes a shit load of bracelets. Has whole box full of them. She gave a few to Finney and Robin

So, I finished the Magolor Epilogue yesterday! Thoughts Time, and also time for some notes on how I'm gonna work it into this blog's continuity, given its ending.
I won't be tagging this post with any spoiler tags, but I will throw the rest of this under a cut in case anyone else was late to the game like I was! ...And also because it's Long dgdgshs
First off, the mode itself was excellent! It might be my favourite of the "play as someone other than Kirby" modes now. I like the whole collection aspect and upgrading Magolor's abilities a lot (along with all the little things he has to say about it—Magolor likes puns confirmed! Which makes sense. Yet another way to harmlessly annoy his friends lmao), and I definitely strongly prefer the combo mechanic as a way of determining score over the time attacks that Metaknightmare, Dededetour, and such have. ...And I do also just adore Magolor and playing as him dhdhshf (though I love Meta Knight too!)
Getting Platinum ranks on Electricky Dooter and Hydriath was absolute hell though. I have no idea why those two bosses specifically took so many damn tries, but they did.
As for plot stuff, it's cute that they tied stuff in with the Kirby Clash games and offered a bit more of a backstory behind the Gem Apples. And also given the newly added conversation that you get from collecting all 120 Energy Spheres in Extra Mode, it's nice to see him follow through on what he told Kirby and actually set up a shop (even if in doing so he becomes more evil than he ever was before by forcing Microtransactions upon us). I also loved getting to see the origin/creation of Magolor's Ultra Sword attack from Star Allies in the battle against the Master Crown!
But! The ending also causes some slight issues for this blog's continuity, given that here, Magolor is chilling at Dedede's Castle with everyone else. And obviously, I'm not gonna change that.
I've got multiple ideas on how I could adjust things to make everything work! I haven't decided on which one to go with yet.
My initial thought was to create a timeline split. Instead of going to the Kirby Clash universe, this blog's Magolor was sent to somewhere in the main series' timeline (along with the Gem Apple still, of course). Halcandra was my first idea, since that would work best with my original plans for him that I think I've mentioned in an old ask (Magolor talks to Landia, who tells him a bit of what they know about the Master Crown. They also banish him from Halcandra for his crimes, but allow him to take the Lor with him as long as it agrees to it (which it does!)). And then from there, Magolor warps to Dream Land using the Lor Starcutter.
I could see the Epilogue's extra level being a pathway back to Dream Land/Planet Popstar, given the presence of Waddle Dees and (more importantly, since maybe there were Waddle Dees in the other Epilogue levels that I've forgotten about) the fact that Magolor is going through a lot of the Another Dimension Sphere Doomer sections from the Story Mode, which are connected to Popstar and Halcandra. So I could see that being the way Magolor gets back home. Maybe he decided to stick around in Another Dimension for a little while longer instead of taking the portal into the Clash universe? So he could gather more magic energy and fully restore his powers before leaving (so that, say, he's not permanently stuck without infinite flight). And eventually he discovers the extra stage, which takes him back to Popstar. He never does learn what was on the other side of that portal that appeared after he destroyed the Master Crown, and sure, he wonders about it from time to time, but ultimately, he's with his friends now and right where he wants to be.
The problem with Magolor being transported directly to Popstar, though, is that he wouldn't have the Lor with him anymore. ...Well, technically he would get it back once Merry Magoland happens (since I'm treating that as part of the continuity for this blog rather than an alternate universe), when it shows up at the amusement park like «HELLO MAGOLOR. COOL PLACE YOU HAVE GOT HERE.» dgdgdshf. But I have Merry Magoland set as the latest thing happening in this blog's timeline, taking place sometime after Forgotten Land, so Magolor and the Lor would have only recently reunited.
But I guess, given that the extra stage has the Another Dimension Sphere Doomer Story Mode sections (I Do Not Know What To Call Them, I'm sorry dhdhshf) from both Popstar and Halcandra, it might be fine to just say he followed the pathway and the portal at the end took him to Halcandra instead! And then once again, he got the Lor back from Landia since it was willing to accompany him, and then they went back to Popstar so Magolor could make up for what he did to Kirby and the gang (and also because he was exiled from Halcandra).
The other option would be to say that Magolor did go to the Kirby Clash universe, but eventually made it back to Dream Land later on. Since I mean, it's now canon that Magolor goes to Kirby Clash after Return to Dream Land, but there's also the already established canon that Magolor makes it back to Popstar since he's playable in Star Allies. So either there's a timeline split, or Magolor leaves the Kirby Clash universe sometime after its story is complete (...which. I've never finished either of the Kirby Clash games actually dhdhshf).
Magolor does mention that he could potentially warp to other worlds if he upgraded his Dimensional Vanish beyond the in-game maximum, and while that could certainly be exaggeration on his part, that could also be the way he gets home? He managed to further power up his warping abilities during his time in the Kirby Clash universe, and once he's no longer needed there, he decides to use those new powers to go find Popstar (and Halcandra?), which he succeeds in doing in time for Star Allies to take place.
Or alternatively, maybe Kirby summoned him home in Star Allies? If the Dream Rod is able to reach Dark Meta Knight from within the Mirror World and Ribbon from over on Ripple Star, then why not grab Magolor from the Kirby Clash universe too? Plus, I do have to admit, that would make for a pretty cute reunion scene, because Kirby wanted Magolor back and specifically tried to summon him, even after all of the horrible stuff he did.
I dunno! I'm sort of leaning toward the first idea (this blog's Magolor never goes to the Kirby Clash universe at all, spending longer in Another Dimension until he eventually goes through the extra postgame stage, which leads him to a portal to Halcandra), but I still haven't fully decided. Going with the second option (Magolor still gets transported to the Clash universe, but eventually gets summoned back to the main series' universe by Kirby in Star Allies) would mean that he isn't present for the events of Triple Deluxe or Planet Robobot, but I guess that isn't necessarily a bad thing? It'd mean I wouldn't have to decide what he was doing during those times and why he wasn't helping Kirby, since he'd be busy in the Kirby Clash universe. ...But at the same time, for Robobot specifically, I think it'd be funny for Magolor to be there and be torn between going "ooooooh cool tech 👀" and "hey can you guys maybe not destroy Popstar please" dhdgdfhshdhfs

8 Shows to Know Me Better By...
@threezoz tagged me in this one... I am to list 8 TV shows that help explain me. And I have to agree... cramming oneself into 8 is hard!
But here we go..
Tumblr media
Once you understand that my first deep seated, soul crushing, emotionally overwrought childhood crush was on a million-year-old, genderless robot from outer space who came to earth and took the form of a transfer truck to fight the good fight alongside mankind against the evil, wicked Decepticons - AND who lost his life and was revived and yet STILL found a way to love people and find the best in them, even when horribly misunderstood and maligned....
You kind of know everything there is to know about me, really.
I loved - and still love - Optimus Prime. He'll always be my one. I still have Transformers music from the movie/series in my music files. I have an Autobots keychain to this day. When the movies came out, I didn't CARE if they were good or bad. Optimus Prime's original voice actor was reprising the role and I was THERE FOR IT, HONEY. I cried. Yep. When I heard that transformer noise and heard Optimus again?
Tears of pure joy.
Tumblr media
Keeping with the cartoon theme... Sailor Moon and the Sailor Scouts and I had QUITE the fling. The love of anime started strong, though when I was watching this at the ass-crack of dawn on weekdays before school, I had no idea "anime" was even a thing. I just loved the art and the whole ritual of everything. This was the anime that started it all for me.
Tumblr media
I'm a Trekkie, when it comes to preference for space opera, and THIS series was my absolute favorite. My dad and I watched this one religiously, and I've rewatched it more recently. The combination of sci-fi and prophetic fantasy still does it for me. And I will always love G'kar and Lennier. And even Londo, particularly his extremely reluctant friendship with G'kar, eventually. My love for the enemies-to-lovers trope started with the enemies-to-allies in this series.
Tumblr media
And now for something completely different...
So my parents made the perhaps none-too-wise decision to give 11 year old me a TV in my bedroom with cable access to the "premium" stations. Including Showtime. And HBO. Etc. I got QUITE the education.
And so began my love for erotica. And we started with Mr. Duchovny and the show Red Shoe Diaries. Later in life, in high school, when I was running with a bunch of boys, I got MASSIVE street cred for identifying Duchovny in X-Files as the "guy who did that porn show on Showtime." And then even LATER in life, when I befriended a certain gay porn star, I got to tell him that his blog (back when we had blogs - remember that?) "Big Shoe Diaries" was a clever play on one of my favorite old TV shows.
All in all, this one came in handy! Emphasis on the "came."
Tumblr media
This one is nice and obscure. So back in the day, MTV was actually a TV station AND it played videos, but at night, it aired some truly cutting edge content for the time. One of those shows was "Oddities." I never really could tell what the hell the show WAS, or even if it was, really, a show. They showed clips. Cartoons. But not like cartoons I'd ever seen.
One of those was "The Maxx" and if you've not seen that amazing story about the purple superhero with a memory problem living in a box in an alleyway obsessed with Julie the social worker... then get yea to YouTube RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. One of the best shows I've ever fucking seen, hands down.
Bonus content: At Halloween, they aired contest animations in the horror genre on Oddities. And I will never... ever... forget two of them. One was claymation, and it was about a little boy who didn't want to go to his room at night to sleep. There was a scary thing outside his window. Spoilers: it exist, it takes his eyes, and then it goes for his mother. In the same show there was one about a love story between two winged gargoyles. One of the most moving things I've ever seen. I've never been able to successfully hunt down either of those animations, but they live rent-free in my head.
Tumblr media
In addition to Showtime, I also had HBO, and when the opening credits for Sex and the City started up at around 10 PM, I perked up. I don't remember what season was playing at the time, but I remember teenage me LOVING the SHIT out of these women, living the dream life in NYC. This was small-town me's dream: write for a living in NYC in a rent controlled apartment? Brunch with the best friends? Hunt for love in a sea of bad choices?
YES. PLEASE.
I've actually seen every episode of this show at LEAST three times. It hasn't aged well, admittedly, but it was one of those right place and right time sorts of things for me.
Tumblr media
So I didn't really watch TV at all (didn't own one) from age, oh 18 - 22 or so? And I can't QUITE remember when I first saw this one. I think it was when I was living in California.
But whenever it happened, I fell so hard so fast, it was dizzying. I loved ALL these characters, but especially precious Emmett. And yes, yes, even Brian. God help me.
And if you've not seen the show, and you decide you want to, I must warn you: make sure you have season 2 ready to go immediately upon watching the finale of season 1. I don't think I've ever been that upset and overwrought.
Queer content became a staple for me with this one. I sought it out. I craved it. And then I started to write it. Didn't even really understand fully WHY, when I started watching this, but, hey... We all learn somehow, yes?
Tumblr media
Okay, for our 8th choice here, it appears as though I'm skipping a shitload of years, but hear me out.
When I was a kid and was figuring out the Internet back in the days of dial up, the very first time I searched for images (I don't even remember what I searched for or why), I came across a picture of a mirror. With odd eyes in it. Lots of fog. A hand reaching out. And the words, "Sandman" in the bottom corner.
I had no idea what I was looking at, but I loved it so much that it haunted me.
And so began my undying love for all things Neil Gaiman, but PARTICULARLY Sandman. I was a childhood cult follower of a classic I didn't even know about. This was the start of my love for graphic novels, for comics, for the kind of sweeping storytelling that only the combo of visuals and words can make.
I own all the books. I follow Mr. Gaiman everywhere to this day. And when they finally - FINALLY - decided to come out with this series on Netflix? Yeah. More tears. Again, sometimes it doesn't matter if the rendition is good or bad (I happen to think it was damned good) - it's getting to see old friends in a new way that makes all the difference.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
The L Word - Sometimes you learn exactly how queer you are when you fall in love with bad girls like Shane.
The Haunting of Hill House - One of the best executed horror series that I've ever seen. Hands down. My love for horror was completely fulfilled, as was my love for tragedy, amazing storytelling, symbolism, and jump scares.
Justified - Timothy Olyphant walking around being Southern, pissed off, and shooting people is my spirit animal. I love EVERYTHING about this show. Hell, for this one? I even wrote fanfiction.
Naruto - Yeah, I suppose I should mention this one? Seeing as how I've written probably close to a million words of fanfiction using those characters. But truth be told, I've only barely seen into the Shippuden arc. LMAO. And I STILL hold that the fucking show should have been called "Kakashi" - and it would have been a helluva lot more interesting.
Lisey's Story - Stephen King has influenced so much of my life that he needs to be on this list somehow, and THIS one of his is one of my absolute favorites. The TV show was true to the book - which makes sense, since Stephen was involved first hand. Boo'ya Moon. Booya boon.
Whew! That was fun! Thanks, Zoz.
I tag @afhenley, @fluister, @tadoritsukuhibi and @northofthemountains - if you feel so inclined!

Give me all you have!
please!?🥺🥺🥺
I tend to go in-depth with my OCs, so I'm going to start with just one, if that's okay with you :)
This one might be "cheating", since she technically is a character in Legends -- though one we never actually met or saw. She was only mentioned briefly by her brother, as a warning of how dangerous the Unknown Regions were, as one of the two members of the Fel family who died before reaching 20. I've had enough of women in fiction being used as just props in a male character's backstory, so with my AU, I decided to change that.
Meet Cherith Fel
Tumblr media
Read the very little there is about her in Legends here
Birth year: 10 ABY
Race: Human (Corillian family background)
Place of Birth: Nirauan -- Chakra City. Empire of the Hand, the Unknown Regions, the Galaxy Far Far Away
Family: General Baron Soontir Fel -- Father. Syal Antilles Fel -- Mother. Older brothers Davin, Chak and Jagged. Younger brother Cem, younger sister Wynessa. Wedge Antilles --- maternal uncle.  Considers the Chiss Empress Lexx'elarra'nuruodo - Xelarra her honourary aunt.
___
Cherith was born the fourth out of the six Fel children, and first daughter of the renowned Imperial fighter pilot Baron Soontir Fel, considered one of, if not *the* finest pilot to ever get behind the controls of a TIE, any TIE, and his wife, holovid star Syal Antilles Fel, after Soontir had been hand-picked by Grand Admiral Thrawn as one of the elite Imperial officers he trusted with his secret "shadow" Empire in the Unknown Regions, the Empire of the Hand. The fact that Thrawn was willing to trust Fel after he had left the Empire to join the Rebellion speaks volumes of just how good a pilot and officer he was.
Cherith grew up alongside her brothers, and was as eager as they were to follow in their father's vapour trails. She watched impatiently as her three older brothers, Davin, Chak and Jagged, did just that, yearning for her turn. As she grew older, however, something else besides the thrill of flying also caught her attention -- longtime family friend, Mitth'shra'nuruodo -- Shran, son of Grand Admiral Thrawn and Empress Xelarra. The Chiss boy was only a year older than her, best friends with her brother Jagged (himself 3 years older than Cherith), and their mothers were also friends (as had been their fathers, before Grand Admiral Thrawn's death)  so Shran was a constant presence in her life, almost like an extra brother, and she'd often join Jag and Shran in playing video games (especially TIE simulator), and listening to Shran go on with just as much enthusiasm about *his* chosen field, joining the Explorers, an offshoot of the Hand's navy specializing in exploration and scientific discovery over military action. The more Shran told her about it, the more fun it seemed -- exploring new worlds, carving new paths through the Chaos, finding new resources and allies for the Empire of the Hand.
Having four brothers, it took a bit longer than most human girls to realize that boys are sometimes not *completely* disgusting. Her childhood friendship with Shran evolved into a crush she couldn't shake, even after he had left for the Explorers academy. She tried to push her feelings aside, and concentrate on her own entrance into the Empire of the Hand's fighter academy, as her family expected, as even she thought she wanted.
Flying came naturally to Cherith, and she did put her all into her TIE training, striving to be just as good, if not better, than her brothers. However, Cherith found she actually did enjoy piloting larger ships as well. They might not be capable of aerobatics like TIEs, but her understanding of starfighters translated amazingly well to corvettes and frigates, and, more importantly, to Explorer ships, which are surprisingly maneuverable for 300-metre long science vessels. They're meant to be fast and tough, able to do scouting missions as well as exploration. Cherith began to wonder just what she could push such a ship to do if she were at the helm, and not just because of a certain blue boy who *might* be assigned to the same ship, if she were extremely lucky.
At 16, just months away from graduating from the Empire of the Hand's starfighter academy, Cherith faced the most intimating trial of her life -- telling her father she didn't want to be a TIE pilot. She wanted to be an Explorer.
The Baron was quiet for a few minutes after his daughter poured her heart out, then wrapped his arms around her. He reassured Cherith that he would have been far more disappointed if she had only half-heartedly become a TIE pilot just to please him, and would have been devastated if that disappointment in her path led to her getting killed in the field. TIE pilots have to want it more than anything to survive, and he'd much rather have an alive, happy daughter doing something, anything else, than one who died trying to impress him. He advised her to finish her training -- Fels are not quitters, after all. Then, as an officer, she'd have an easier time applying to be an Explorer. Her training time in her new field would also be reduced.
After another year of class studies, and a year as a cadet, Lieutenant Cherith Fel finally came aboard the RRS Intrepid as the junior helms officer. In her new, Explorer blue uniform, with the silver accents denoting her position as a pilot, she finally felt like she was where she belonged.
As she reported to the bridge for her first shift, she finally met her new Captain:
"Welcome to the Intrepid, Lieutenant Fel.  I’m looking forward to serving with you.” said Shran, with the same, cocky, full of himself smile she knew so well from when they had been kids.
She returned the smile, "as am I, Captain."

I’m late!!
But I am still gonna play! Thank you @kelliealtogether for tagging me in the ‘five favourite fics that I've written (for writer appreciation day)’
This was the kindest thing you could have tagged me in, because as much as I love my fics when I post them, I tend to have a distorted view of them later on, thinking that my writing must have been so much worse, that I’m sure I fucked up the pacing, etc. But having now gone back and re-read a lot of these, I like them just as much - so much that choosing just 5 is gonna be hard!
1. Pan Cookies
Oldest first - and also because it’s the only Dragon Age fic I have and tbh I adore it. Short and sweet, Dorian and Sera deserve to bond over shitty parents - the end!
Dragon Age Inquisition, Gen.
This is the story of how Sera and Dorian became crazy, drunken, selfie-olympics bffs. Enjoy.
2. Kisseltoe
This was a holiday exchange fic that I still think is really stinkin’ cute. Did it have to be this long, or complicated? No! But I thrive on turning simple plots into drawn out character studies.
Overwatch, Cole Cassidy/Hanzo Shimada
Trapped under the mistletoe, Cole has now kissed every person at this party but the one person he actually wants to.
3. Rita’s Blessing
First rule of thieving: Know what your mark wants.
The Penumbra Podcast, Juno Steel/Peter Nureyev
First rule of thieving: Do your own research.
First rule of thieving: Know what you, yourself, want.
What Peter Nureyev wants is to wake up next to Juno Steel every day for the rest of his life. He wants to travel the galaxy at his side, day after day, until death at last parts them. He wants so deeply and with such fervor it weighs on his heart like nothing else, save the ring, which stays always in one of his many pockets, feeling like a star attempting to collapse in on itself.
And that is the problem.
FOR INSTANCE. This was supposed to be a short and sweet exchange fic for a friend. It wasn’t supposed to take as long as it did (the better part of a year) but it did! And tbh - I love it a lot. I’m glad it took that long. I’m glad I met them. I’m glad I wrote this. I genuinely think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written.
4. We often confuse what we wish for, with what is
“You just have to hope that betraying one another is not in their self-interests?” Juno misquotes back to him, dry.
The Penumbra Podcast, Juno Steel/Peter Nureyev
“This is not the first partner, team, group or crew I have allied with,” Nureyev finally says, clipped and crisp. Weary and wary and just him in place of where Ransom would already be soliciting Buddy’s forgiveness. “And I’m sure you are all familiar with the...self serving nature of those in our line of work.”
He nods. “Quite. And once the job is complete, it’s not uncommon to look into the face of an ally and see an enemy instead."
Second FOR INSTANCE. This was a fic I never intended to write. As many of my fics start, this came from the want of using one particular line and having to figure out WHERE that line fit. Juno saying ‘oh you’re gonna want to think so carefully about what you say next,’ was living in my brain rent free and I had to find a home for it and so came forth this Murderbot-Leverage-esque story of Peter Nureyev, master thief.
...crap now I have to choose between Captive Prince and The Raven Cycle. Wait. No I don’t. Fuck it. I’m going rogue!
5. Attend Me
This is just fun, silly, modern day fluff. I like the world I made behind it, but mostly I just wanted to see how they fit together.
Captive Prince, Damen/Laurent
Housebound following an accident, Damen prepares an important dinner.
6. Here with You
The Raven Cycle/The Dreamer Trilogy, Ronan Lynch/Adam Parrish
When Adam received the invitation to Declan Lynch's wedding, he'd known that seeing Ronan again was going to be difficult.
This is one of those fics that has a huge, sprawling backstory that I have no willpower or time to fully write. However, I think this small snippit gives just enough of a look into what was and what could be and I really like it for that.
Alright! That’s enough self indulgence from me, so I’m gonna pass this off to @sanerontheinside @themarchrabbit @parakeatswrites @audikatia @rabbitdarling @the-prince-of-tides and @blue-mood-blue happy ficcing!!

Oh my jesus christ. Writing villains is my absolute favorite fucking thing. When I tried out for parts in One Act Play, I aimed at the villain roles. There is nothing more fun than just bringing out every human flaw and shooting them into overdrive. I think part of it is an excuse to FEEL those horrible things, to work them out of my system, but harmlessly so.
If I can't be an actor, I can certainly do that with characters in literature.
I have to work to get into every character's mind--including Johnny Topside and Augustus Sinclair, the two characters I prefer to write about--with one exception.
Stanley Poole. Stanley-fucking-Poole. A two-bit journalist character. One of the most easily-forgotten side characters in all of BioShock 2. All I did was bring in a few disparate traits--insecurity, vanity, talent, hypocrisy, and covetousness with a heavy dollop of self-loathing and -denial and an out-of-control temper. If you write, you know that it's not enough to nail the right kinds of perspectives in a single moment: properly chasing a living character identity in action, as an organic and evolving thing, can be an exercise in frustration.
But with Stanley, I do not have to try very hard at all: he just works. And when I say he works, I mean that writing his sections are absolutely effortless. What's the equivalent of brain lube? Whatever it is, he's slicked in it. Appropriate, because he's a huge cock.
He has a job I actually know something about, which might be part of the ease, but the rest of it is his delightfully unforgivable behavior. Stanley is petty, explosive, calculating, and cruel; he has few, if any allies, and the ones he does have don't particularly like him; and he is always trying to make trouble for someone somewhere. That makes him intensely interesting. He's like my favorite shirt/jean combo: we fit each other perfectly.
Frankly, the fact I can slide into Poole's shoes so easily might be a bad sign, but we won't talk about THAT
Then there's Dr. Sofia Lamb. She's a whole different animal. She is not fun to write, per se--but only because she's emotionally constipated. Where a lot of my characters are the emotional and psychological equivalents of fireworks--they light easily, pop off reliably, cause a lot of shocking friction with each other, and set off lots of bright and colorful chain reactions--Dr. Lamb is like the quiet, inexorable chain of atomic reactions leading to a nuclear explosion. She is quiet and still until she's suddenly very much NOT.
Part of what makes her uninteresting to me is that she's mature enough to take social blows without taking them seriously, or at least without considering retribution. Where emotional feedback in a story is deeply satisfying, the equivalent of a full-course meal, she provides a different kind of meal entirely--an intellectual one.
That intellectual exploration is actually one of my very favorite things. The problem is that I'm starving for good old-fashioned creature comforts at the moment--lust and rage and bloodletting. She's not a horndog like Topside or Sinclair, nor emotionally unstable like Poole, nor violent like Subject Delta. She doesn't inspire any of that--not usually, anyway. Now, this may be a failure of my own; she was never fully developed by 2K Marin, so in attempting to write her, I've got to fill the blanks. ("Why is she a villain?" 2K Marin asked. "She has literally always wanted to be one! We're writing a gnostic allegory! Hahaha! Great story mark")
That said, she's incredibly valuable. Besides being a foil to Johnny Topside's rising star, she utilizes many of the same themes, such as the consequences of fame and the unintended side effects of being the right person at the right time. Moreover, part of why I love BioShock and the literature it takes cues from is its intelligence and its willingness to ask big questions--and unlike most of the characters in-story, she gives me those opportunities.
There's a part of her that's terrifying, but I have to grow it by degrees. I think half of my issue with her at the moment is that I'm having some difficulty easing her into the villain role. That's because she doesn't really start as a villain: she starts out completely laudable. Where Poole is an obvious motherfucker, she is far more subtle, and I'm having some trouble finding out where her corruption begins. I'm looking forward to when I can simply unleash her.
In any case, I'd probably better chunk 2,000 words into the ether before the day ends or I'll start sweating blood

Gilmore oc’s of your choice + favorite/theme song from Taylor Swift midnights? 👀
oooooh okay let's go!!!
Kirsty: also okay this one is coming back again but You’re On Your Own Kid gives me such big Kirsty vibes!!!  Like I can hear it playing when she goes to New York at the end of s2 and then being repeated when she moves to New York again in season 7? (You're on your own, kid / Yeah, you can face this / You're on your own, kid / You always have been)
Kirsty 2: Lavender Haze is just such peak Kirsty & Jess!  Like Kirsty has all of the eyes of the town on her but Jess sees right through all of it, and the entire “I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say” really fits them coming back to Stars Hollow and facing all of the criticism from the town, Lorelai, and Rory!
Sophie: okay Mastermind actually really hits for her?  Like the idea that Sophie has always planned to end up with Logan and was just playing the long game for it — in some ways it doesn’t fit because it’s been much longer term, but the parts that don’t fit them do totally fit Sophie x Rory! (No one wanted to play with me as a little kid / So I've been scheming like a criminal ever since / To make them love me and make it seem effortless & Once upon a time, the planets and the fates and all the stars aligned / You and I ended up in the same room at the same time)
Bonus: Glitch gives me major Sophie vibes but very specifically Sophie x Richie? like it doesn't fit Logan quite as well because they've been a long term Thing before they get together, but it feels perfect for meeting Richie and just being like "oh fuck i wasn't expecting to actually care" (A brief interruption / A slight malfunction / I'd go back to wanting / Dudes who give nothing)
Brady: Brady's theme song is absolutely Would've Could've Should've I'm sorry about the angst but like "Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first" and her relationship with Asher just fit painfully well
Allie: Snow On The Beach is just so Allie x Jess!  They’re an interesting dynamic in that they know that they’re going to end up together and it’s just a waiting game (but like, in a different way than Sophie x Logan), and Snow On The Beach feels like the prefect song for them getting together and having this “oh my god, is this really happening?” feeling because this has been building for so long that the idea that they’re actually together now feels impossible! (And it's like snow at the beach / Weird, but fuckin' beautiful / Flying in a dream / Stars by the pocketful / You wanting me tonight, feels impossible)
Avery: oh man I love her but Anti-Hero is such a strong vibe with her other theme song being This Is Me Trying and like… the feeling that she’s always messing up, especially combined with her dad just generally sucking and making her feel like she’s never good enough (The mark they saw on my collarbone / The rust that grew between telephones / The lips I used to call home / So scarlet, it was maroon)
Willow: Willow is You’re On Your Own Kid in a heartbeat like my goddddd it’s such a her song (So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it / You've got no reason to be afraid / You're on your own, kid /Yeah, you can face this)
Casey: it’s not entirely specific to the lyrics but the overall vibe of Maroon gives me huge Casey x Jess vibes!  They do become extremely close again but that nostalgia for their past relationship is such a significant part of Casey’s story! (The mark they saw on my collarbone / The rust that grew between telephones / The lips I used to call home / So scarlet, it was maroon)
Jane: Paris feels like such a Jane x Lindsay x Jess song where they’re out in Philly and both Jane and Lindsay have their moms constantly telling them about Stars Hollow drama and they just don’t care at all because the three of them are in their little bubble and they’re so happy and none of that shit matters to them! (I'm so in love that I might stop breathing / Drew a map on your bedroom ceiling / No, I didn't see the news / ‘Cause we were somewhere else)
Jacqueline: Sweet Nothing!! It just feels so perfect for her relationship with Jess and how they both have other shit in their lives and with their families (and with everyone thinking that for Jess this is some weird Rory-related thing) but they’re just shutting the rest of the world out and staying in their sweet little bubble and being the only people who never expected or demanded More from each other! (They said the end is coming / Everyone's up to something / I find myself running home to your / Sweet nothings / Outside, they're push and shoving / You're in the kitchen humming / All that you ever wanted from me was / Sweet nothing)
(I definitely focused on theme songs over favourites bc I freaking love Midnights and would not have been able to pick favourites for them outside of these being the songs they'd relate to the most!!)

MIOOOOO: Let’s see Hierophant, Hanged Man, Devil, and since what you talked about earlier, Moon?
For Kve let’s have Justice and World!
fuck yeah let's deep dive
maahes
05.  the hierophant  :  what are your muse’s morals / ethics ? do they follow their moral code strictly ?
he's classed as a true neutral alignment, on a technical level, and that's probably pretty accurate -- i think his moral code is largely driven by what he perceives to be pelor's guidance, understandably due to his oath, with a generous sprinkling of sehanine's wisdom. in faelethris, they are both largely neutral entities (iirc, subject to DM correction if i'm off kilter) whose domains don't adhere to any kind of morality in the traditional sense. you probably wouldn't win mio over by playing to any guilt derived from his apathy, in the same way that you wouldn't really gain anything from making him feel like a bastion of moral principle. he truly doesn't care; pelor's goals and his own goals always outrank other people's.
also, i've spoken about it before, but there's a lot of imagery around the sun in mio's life and it's intentional for several reasons, but specifically one of those reasons is that the sun itself is a neutral body. it's just a star. it has no bearing on what it's doing to our world, but our world thrives on it as much as it has to survive under it. that's kind of the position of the king in akhenaton, in a sense.
tl;dr he's not all bad, but he's really not all good either.
12.  the hanged man  :  how open is your muse to new opportunities ? do they constantly look for them or do they simply take whatever comes their way ?
mio enjoys making connections that could lead to opportunities. there's a reason he defaults to charm and platitudes with most new people, and it's because he never wants to close the door on a potential ally that could owe him a favour. it's a habit he learned from his upbringing for sure, following his father in matters of court and council only opened his eyes to the opportunities that could come his way if he just made the right impression.
i don't think i could say he actively seeks them out, but if he gets wind of connections or alliances that could prove beneficial, he will try to pursue them. i think it's probably a part of his newfound friendship with zin, in all honesty -- which i love. he does genuinely enjoy their company, i have to say, but i think seeing the feywild and seeing zin's real influence definitely had a factor in that shift for mio.
15.  the devil  :  is your muse addicted to any substances ? is there anything that could possibly make them quit ?
money??? fame???? adoration????? he would never give that up actually im sorry
i do have an idea what would be a worst-case ever scenario for mio that would absolutely derail him and send him into a spiral of insane transformation where he abandons these things but i don't want to accidentally manifest it so it's staying in my head
18.  the moon  :  what does your muse long for ? is it a realistic desire ?
THIS IS COMPLEX.
i think more and more he's seeing himself as a suitable replacement for khenum on the throne, but he's definitely viewing it in a way that's like "i'm saving him by taking his place which i was meant to do, and he can live whatever life he wants" which, yk, in itself is not a terrible concept but i do not for one second believe akhen's troubles are going to be resolved so simply, let alone khenum's.
in any case he wants to go home, and he wants 'home' to be what he remembers it being. how realistic is that? i have no idea, but mio would do anything to get it to that point. he's thinking of a future for the first time in a long time, one that extends beyond 'go home' -- it's about what he'll do there, how he'll fit in, and the duty of blood that comes with his lineage.
kveða
11.  justice  :  does your muse find it easy to be impartial in emotional situations ?
he's pretty fuelled by emotion - we joke that he should be a barbarian because nearly all of his emotions inevitably get funnelled into rage which he takes out in pitfights, bloodbaths, and various other morbid means of therapy. so he definitely finds it hard to be impartial and it's very much why he does not do the talking in the group unless it's specifically to bite somebody's head off for looking at his friend the wrong way.
21.  the world  :  is there one thing in life that your muse must accomplish ? what will they do when they complete that goal ?
not a mcfucking clue my dude he's an aimless ball of buried emotions with 398475349 axes at his disposal and the one thing keeping him going is the notion that there will be an end to it all and it will be glorious

21- Wild card! Talk about anything to do with this character! Anything at all!
For… Meta Knight
[Character Ask Meme! Drop a random character + a number!]
Tumblr media
I wish he wasn't a villain in the games- or at least, wasn't portrayed as such. Now, I grew up around 4Kids TV still being an active site on the internet, so my first introduction to Meta Knight- let alone the Kirby franchise- was the English dubbed anime, wherein Meta Knight is not so much a villain as he is... Morally gray.
Tumblr media
He was a character who worked for triple D, but had his own motives- and his history (up until Wolfwrath's episode) was unknown. So... I kind of came to view him as a knight in shining armor (as a small girl who saw that kind of stuff was oft to do). This is why, in my portrayal, while I do incorporate some game canon every here and there, I never let him get portrayed as doing something for simple self-interest/greed-- instead making it so it's either some evil doppleganger, or Meta Knight testing Kirby, or him getting taken over by some villainous thing.
Tumblr media
Of the few Kirby games I do own, the one I look towards when I write his combat scenes and powers is actually Kirby Super Star Ultra for the DS, specifically 'Meta Knightmare'. It's also a light inspiration for me when it comes to thinking about some of the game canons if MK was less... Villain, and more hero. Of course, I've only played Squeak Squad, Super Star Ultra, Star Allies, and (still working through this one) Forgotten Land,-- so I don't know how MK is portrayed in any of the other games. I like to think that his attacks when he's evil in Star Allies are him going all-out/without restraint, so attacks he'd do if he was low on health/ready to die or something, and wanting to give his friends a chance to bring down a big boss.
Tumblr media
As it should be noticeable, I do write MK as thinking monsters are no worse than cappies or star warriors- in that the more sentient/less live-stock minded ones are capable of moral change or being brought to the good side. If you can't see this in the fact that my Kirby-Universe!SI is literally a monster from Nightmare Enterprises and yet they're dating MK, then-- uh-- mate I've got NEWS.
Tumblr media
Thanks for letting me randomly rant a bit about my MK, have a good day--

Munday: other than PMD or Pokémon in general, what other games do you like?
Welp...
It isn't Munday anymore, and since I got really tired and didn't log in for a while, I missed this ask. I'll answer it now, though! Sorry for the lateness.
First of all, I absolutely love Kirby! It's so adorable, and it's one of the few platform games I can actually beat (due to it not being overly difficult). There are so many cool characters, and some surprisingly creepy final bosses and lore bits. Star Allies was my first Kirby game, and it still holds a special place in my heart because of all the Dream Friends (characters from past games that you can play as). I'd say my favorite Kirby game is probably either Planet Robobot or Forgotten Land, though.
I also adore the Mother trilogy (localized as EarthBound). It just has this vibe that I can't describe, and it hits every emotion just right. I could write a whole essay about why I love the trilogy, but I don't have the energy right now.
And since I like the Mother trilogy, it naturally follows that I like some of the games inspired by it. Deltarune is wonderful, and Yume Nikki is quite the experience. I've also started playing Omori recently, and that's been great!
Another game franchise I like is Zelda! I generally prefer the top-down games to the 3D ones, and my favorite Zelda game is Link's Awakening for the Switch.
I suck at puzzle games, so I've never actually played Portal and Portal 2, but I've watched let's plays and the games are great, with amazing humor! GLaDOS my beloved :)
To be honest, my reflexes aren't the greatest. I have poor eye-hand coordination, and as a kid, I had to go to occupational therapy (is that what it's called?) in order to practice basic stuff like buttoning a shirt. I still can't type properly; I just use two fingers, though I can go pretty fast now. My handwriting sucks; it looks like something from a child, not an eighteen-year-old. Why am I saying all this? I'm trying to explain why I was never good at video games that weren't entirely turn-based. Maybe that's why I love Pokemon so much. Even so, I'm trying my best to improve, even if I get frustrated. I love video games, and I want to play more and get better.

Games I finished in 2022 (and some I didn't)
Tumblr media
Three years running, baby (read 2020, 2021 installments if you want). These are not in any particular order and it's also not the order I beat them in...
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Wii U) 😀 Awesome. Better than I thought it would be. Full of charm as expected with things in the Mario Universe. Neat boss fights. I thought the game was over after Chapter 1 and then was happy there was more.
Pikmin 2 (Wii) 😍 I was hungry for more Pikmin after finishing the 3rd installment in 2021 and it was was a step down in fidelity (480p 😭) but still enjoyable. If you haven't played any of the series try the demo for Pikmin 3 on the Switch - there's nothing else like it.
Total Party Kill (iOS) 😍 I will rarely include mobile games because they are usually pseudo-gambly dogshit designed to bleed money. None of that garbage in this game it's just a bunch of cool levels and console game-like vibes. It's Lost Vikings-like but the puzzles are centered around killing your party and using their dead bodies to solve the puzzles. It's the game I've gifted to others the most on Steam.
Heart Star (iOS)😀 Same dev as Total Party Kill and it's another great console vibey puzzle platformer with less murder and more cuteness. It's totally playable on mobile but I'd probably get the Steam version if I wanted to do to another playthrough.
Kirby Star Allies (Switch) 😀 Totally Kirby and totally okay to play with my 5 & 7 year olds since slow characters get teleported to catch-up. You can tell Smash Bros was started by HAL with the similar chaotic vibes. My only complaint is this game skews too easy and it makes me wonder if they'll ever crank the difficulty of the puzzles up in a Kirby game because the setup has a lot of potential.
Starfox 64 (3DS) - two different playthroughs 😀 The original was already good but they updated the graphics and added some quality of life fixes so that was great. Starfox Zero gets shit on a lot but I'm interested in giving it a go next.
Metroid: Samus Returns (3DS) - 100% 😀 Bought a 3DS just to play this as I was flying high from finishing Metroid Zero mission in 2021. I explored the map pretty thoroughly so by the time I was near the end game I was close to 100% so I went ahead and did it anyway.
Metroid: Dread (Switch) 😍 This plays like a smoother version of Samus Returns and that makes sense since it was the same developers. The lore dumps were good. I liked how cinematic it felt when the camera zoomed out to show scale of things. I tried to 100% this but ragequit. Having beat the main 5 Metroid games I'm gonna try to get into the Metroid Prime series I skipped out on - I feel like I might like it now.
Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) - 100% 😀 It's everything you expect from a Mario game - tight platforming and lots of level variety. I felt a bit cramped not being allowed to control the camera but I got used to it. This just made me want to re-play Super Mario 3D Land and my kids are better at gaming now so that should be a fun replay. I'm surprised I 100%'d this.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) - 100% 😀 I liked this better than 3D Land - it's classic Mario platforming with a nice coat of paint. I'm surprised I 100%'d this one too but it's just too easy to have a 3DS on a nightstand and do a few things every night. I think this game made me develop "Mario Fatigue" because I need to take a break now.
Pokémon Puzzle League (N64) 😏 I never got into the actual Pokémon games but I have fun with the ancillary ones like the puzzle spinoffs. I replayed the single player hard mode to see if I could still beat it (and I can) and just when I started feeling good about my Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon skills I started playing Panel Attack (it's free!) against others online and got my ass handed to me repeatedly.
Zelda: Link Between Worlds (3DS) 🥰 This was marketed as a sequel to Link to the Past but it seems barely connected. I was worried the "wall walking" would be gimmicky but it added a lot of freshness. They had a lot of fun with "depth" and even with the 3D disabled some parts get very vertical. I didn't like the "buy all the tools" thing and I wish it was more of the traditional Zelda/Metroidvania styled with different areas unlocked as you gained abilities but I'm also glad they're trying new things.
Games I didn't finish
I tried a smattering of other games but didn't finish them - these were the most notable:
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (DS) 😭 I like it but rage quit pretty bad and not sure if I'll go back before I try the Switch remake (when if it's eventually released). I'm also going to try some Fire Emblem games to see if I like them too.
Any Mobile Game (They're all shit) 🤬 I didn't finish any mobile game beacuse they aren't designed to be finished they're designed to sell you crystals and shit - fuck 'em they're garabge.
Pic: I got into pearler beads / beadsprites pretty hard this year - it's pixel art IRL!

Sunday 25/9/21 - Media Recommendations #19
Contents:
Twilight Princess (Manga)
Dr Stone (manga/anime)
Tumblr media
Lately, I have had a lot I want to write about on this blog, but lack that activation energy to actually start writing an article. Ideally I will at least word vomit more onto the blog in the coming week or so, because I have the topics in mind, just unsure how to start any of it.
Media Consumption has also slowed to a crawl, but I'm getting back into it. This week I wanna discuss a manga series I've been reading slowly as it has released, and an anime I have long been reading the manga for.
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (Manga)
Akira Himekawa
Tumblr media
Zelda fans have a unique schism between their fans that many other longer running series may not experience. Because most games star a relatively unique cast of characters, a unique spin on the world, gameplay, and even artistic style, what your favourite in the series is will throw you into a hard debate against fans of other games. There's this post i saw somewhere(?) once where it was said your favourite Zelda game is the one that came out when you were 12, presumably because this is the one you experience first, or at least earlier in your Zelda journey, and I can completely relate to that.
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess was the first Zelda game I played, and it has been my number 1 or 2 in the series consistently. Compared to the games that came before it, it was darker, had a richer world, and just a grander scope. But today I'm not here to explain the game, I'm here to talk about the manga.
Tumblr media
Akira Himekawa is a pseudonym for a pair of female manga artists that have been writing manga together since the early 90s, and I know them well for their Legend of Zelda adaptations. They have covered most of the main games everyone knows, Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, A Link to the Past, and even a couple volumes of Four Swords Adventures. Their most recent work has also been the most long and in depth adaptation, my first Zelda game, Twilight Princess.
Like all of their Zelda adaptations, Akira Himekawa's Twilight Princess follows all the same plot beats as the main games. The order places are visited, the main characters Link encounters, the dungeons and their bosses, but the mangaka add... more to the world. Link has a deeper back story explaining what led to the start of the adventure. What in the games are essentially blank slate NPCs become characters in their own rights with personalities and arcs and motivations. The Twilight Realm, which is essentially just a dungeon in the game, is fleshed out as its entire world, with society, and lore.
Tumblr media
In the game, Link is cool, and a bit of a himbo, but the manga's take on him is so much more interesting. He's a brooding edge lord, with a damaged past. He's a do-gooder, but he's also flawed and suffers from caring too much. Link is a character full of regrets who constantly bounces between "become a hero to prevent the atrocities of the past coming back" and "give up so that you don't make things worse". I understand that the games leave Link as a blank slate so that players can fill in their own ideals, but seeing Link as a fully fleshed character with his own motivations is cool as hell.
The supporting cast is similarly fleshed out compared to the game's take. Zelda, Illia, and Midna have complex motivations and evolving personalities. Midna was already a great character, but the manga truly does not skip out on making her deep and interesting. The "Resistance", for those who've played the game, are all multilayered characters now, all with arcs that are actively explored as they actually go help Link on his adventures, instead of just telling him info and leaving him to it. The dungeons do not take nearly as much plot time as they do in the games, essentially minimal theme building and then boss, but this works better for the format in my opinion.
Tumblr media
If you like high fantasy manga, or are just a Zelda fan, I highly recommend this series. I haven't finished reading it, but Book 9, which I think is the final in the series, has recently been released in English. Obviously playing the game first is a good background, but I think you could 100% enjoy the series without it.
Edit: Finished book 9 and there's definitely at least one more book to go.
Dr Stone (anime/manga)
Inagaki, Boichi; TMS Entertainment
Tumblr media
Ok so must I remember wrong because I thought I recommended this one, but apparently I never talked about Dr Stone before, which is a complete travesty. But now I am both up to date with the manga and most of a season deep into the anime, and I have A LOT to talk about.
As those who have also read my dinosaur blogposts will understand, I am a big science nerd. Biology, palaeontology, space, chemistry, it's all so interesting, and sometimes I struggle to understand how a passion for science is not a universal human experience. I share that in common with the main character of a manga I've been reading for maybe a year now, Dr Stone.
Tumblr media
In Dr Stone, the world of 21st Century humanity is brought crashing to a halt when a bright wave of mysterious light blankets the entire planet, and everywhere on the entire globe, humans have been turned to stone. 3700 years later, a young man who has kept his mind active within the stone forces himself awake and breaks out. Around him, nature has reclaimed the Earth and millennia of human progress has been all but buried.
Tumblr media
Senku is a young man of science, and spent years obsessing over every scientific domain he could comprehend in order to one day travel to space. In this stone world, armed with this wealth of science progress in his mind, Senku begins efforts to restart the scientific age, and free every single person frozen in stone. He starts with a mysterious acid that breaks down the stone. Then he develops tools, machinery, electricity, and eventually, he wants to push humanity back to the space age within his lifetime. Senku may be a know it all, but knowledge only gets you so far. Thanks to the allies he makes, a wealth of expertise will be harnessed to bring his dream to fruition.
Dr Stone is a must read for anyone who enjoys Scifi. Although the rate at which progress is made seems absurd, every single scientific process the kingdom of science works on is real science. Although post apocalyptic themes establish the base for the story and the supernatural force that turned humanity to stone is the main adversary, Dr Stone is a very scientific story based on real Earth and its just... exhilarating!
Tumblr media
The scope of the story begins on the small scale in primitive villages, but the story eventually reaches a global scale. There are adversaries at each step, those who wish to rule the Stone World with might, free of the tyranny science had in our age, and there are also those who wish to use science as its own form of might, but Senku and his allies want to use science for the benefit of everyone. So that one day, all of humanity will be restored, and that eventually, he will get to moon.
I will refrain from speaking any further on story specifics because you really should experience the plot for yourself. So I will end with the presentation itself. The art and format of the manga are beautiful. Character designs are rugged, stylised, and exciting, it's very easy to determine what a character is all about just by their unique appearance.
Tumblr media
In the last week, I have begun watching the anime, as it has been long enough since I started reading that I can experience parts of the plot anew. The anime is very beautifully made, the world is lush and beautiful, and characters move in such a fun and interesting way. I'm watching the English dub, and characters sound exactly like the voices I had for them in my head.
If you have even an inkling of interest in Dr Stone after reading what I've said today, you should definitely experience the story for yourself, 1 billion percent.

Why It Worked: The Princess and The Frog
Tumblr media
Introduction: The Princess and The Frog is an animated musical fantasy romantic comedy film. Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, the film stars Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos, Keith David, Michael-Leon Wooley, Jim Cummings, Jennifer Lewis, Jennifer Cody, John Goodman, Oprah Winfrey and Terrence Howard. The film was released on December 11, 2009 and recieved very positive reviews from critics and audiences (85% of 200 reviews agregated by Rotten Tomatoes gave an average rating of 7.4/10). The film grossed $269 million on a budget of $105 million. For the past decade, I've grown to love this movie more and more with each passing year. Having rewatched it recently, I now firmly believe this is one of Disney's best films. In this post, I'd like to go into detail as to why.
Tumblr media
The Plot: Based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, The Frog Prince, mixed with the material in The Frog Princess by E.D. Maker, this film tells the story of Tiana, a waitress trying to earn enough money to start her own restaurtant. She encounters a talking frog, who's actually Prince Naveen turned into a frog by Dr. Facilier. He agrees to help Tiana get her her restaurant if she helps him turn back into a prince by recreating the classic tale of The Frog Prince. This backfires and now they're both frogs hopping around the buyou with their gator friend, Louis and a cajun firefly named Ray, to find a way to reverse the spell they were put under. The film is really a subversion of classic fairy tale tropes that makes the film feel fresh and new. The goal for our leading lady is not to fall in love with a prince but to make her childhood dream come true. What also makes this film standout is how magical they make New Orleans, paying tributes to jazz music and cajun cuisine. I also found the humor to be very funny, with many of the jokes getting a great laugh out of me. One of the funniest scenes in the film is when Tiana and Naveen outwit a trio of frog hunters. The slapstick and perfect timing had me in stitches. What really makes the story so engaging is the animation. It's too bad Disney hasn't used 2D animation in their recent films (not to say they don't look amazing in 3D) because the animation in the Princess and The Frog is amazing. The character movements feel so smooth and fluid and they're designs are unique and well defined. It should also be noted that some 3D was used for background elements yet are coated with a 2D paint so well you never would've noticed.
Tumblr media
Cast and Characters: The cast of this movie did outstanding jobs voicing these characters, who are all well developed and very likable. Starting with our leading lady, Tiana is a smart hardworking woman that's determined to start up her restaurant. She's also sassy, funny and a great cook. Anika Noni Rose was perfect as Tiana as gives the character a very determined and no-nonsense tone in her voice. Prince Naveen starts off as an arrogant playboy that only wants to live a carefree life. However, the more time he spends with Tiana, the more he realizes that not everything is just going to be handed to him. This is especially true during the scene when he and Tiana are making gumbo and he comes to realize he's so used to having everything be done for him that he doesn't even know how to take care of himself. Bruno Campos gave a very stellar performance as Naveen, giving him such charm and funny lines while also selling the more personal aspects of his character. Louis the gator is such a fun comic relief that plays a mean trumpet. He easily brings out some of the best laughs and Michael-Leon Wooley gave a very memorable performance as the character. Ray the cajun firefly just might be one of Jim Cummings' best vocal performances, up there with Darkwing Duck, Pete, and (of course) Winnie The Pooh and Tigger. Ray might appear to have a screw or too loose, but he's actually a really smart, brave and reliable ally who's more than willing to help his friends. His love for Evangeline (which is actually the North Star) feels very genuine even if it might come across as odd at first. Then there's the film's made baddie, Dr. Facilier (often referred to as The Shadow Man). Dr. Facilier is every bit as charming as he is sinister. He's manipulative, he's smart, he's charsmatic and he loves what he does. Keith David was excellent in the role, giving him a deep yet unsettling tone in his voice.
Tumblr media
Super Supporting Players: This film has one of the strongest supporting cast I have ever seen. Each of the supporting and even minor characters leave a lasting impression and make the film feel lived in. Lawrence, Naveen's butler, acts as the secondary antagonist of the film, being the catalyst of Naveen's desire for a carefree lifestyle. He sides with the Shadow Man and poses as Naveen while the prince is a frog in order to marry Charlotte La Bouff. Speaking of Charlotte, is very much nothing like the standard spoiled brat. Rather than be snobbish, selfish and rude, Lottie is a true friend to Tiana and is willing to help her get her restaurant. Believe me folks, after having to deal with the likes of Gem Stone, Princess Morbucks, Sincerity (What About Mimi), and Tricia Holmes (6teen), Charlotte is a breath of fresh air. Her father, Eli (aka Big Daddy) is also a very kind and caring figure who, despite spoiling his daughter, clearly raised her well as she gets her generosity from him. Mama Odie is a wise 197 year old blind lady that not only helps our heroes on their journey, but helps them understand the difference between what they want vs what they need. This is echoed by Eudora (Tiana's Mom) earlier in the film, who even in the limited amount of screen time she had exerts such a motherly personality and has authentic chemistry with her daughter. Then there's James (Tiana's Dad), the main driving force behind Tiana's desire to open her restaurant. Despite succumbing to the frequently used "dead parent" trope, every second he's on screen is imperative to the story. He's a kind hard working man who dreamed of opening his own restaurtant with his daughter Tiana. When she tells her Dad about the wishing star, he gives her great advice: "that little star can only take you part of the way. You got to help it along with some hard work of your own and then you can do anything you set your mind to." What truly makes this supporting cast come alive are the stupendous voice work from the actors who portrayed them. Jennifer Cody was fantastic as Lottie, making her sound so energetic and lively. John Goodman is always a treat to hear and he brings such a humble fatherly presence to Eli. Jennifer Lewis perfectly captures the sass and erratic nature of Mama Odie and is an amazing singer. Peter Bartlett right captured the bumbling mannerisms of Lawrence and when he's disguised as Naveen he exerts more confidence in his voice. Oprah Winfrey, who was also a consultant for the film, played Eudora beautifully as a kind and caring mother and they couldn't have picked a better actor than Terence Howard for the role of James.
Tumblr media
Songs and Music: Randy Newman is a musical genius! Every single song in this film is written wonderfully with an awesome beat, wonderful lyrics and the amazing vocal talents of the stars. Starting with the opening track after the lovely melody prologue, Down in New Orleans perfectly introduces the audience to this city and what it's like to live here. The late Dr. John brought such authenticity to the song being a New Orleans native and he had great singing chops. Almost There, Tiana's number, is not so much an I want song, but more like "I'm so close I can almost taste it." Anika Noni Rose has great singing talents and carried that long final note like a champ. The villain song, Friends From The Other Side is (in my opinion) one of the best Disney villain songs. It perfectly captures the charismatic and manipulative nature if Dr. Facilier and Keith David's baritone singing makes this all the more memorable. When We're Human is an upbeat song that showcases the excellent singing talents of Anika Noni Rose, Bruno Campos and Michael-Leon Wooley as they sing about what they'll do when they're human. It also makes great use of the trumpet, the go-to instrument for jazz. Ray is given the distinct honor of singing 2 songs, which are polar opposites yet are both wonderfully well crafted musical numbers. The first is Gonna Take You There, which is a classic cajun song in with Ray sings while he and his firefly family take our heroes to Mama Odie's. It's bounce, it's fun, it's makes great use of the accordion, it's just a great song to listen to. The second is Ma Belle Evangeline, a slow yet beautiful love ballad Ray sings for Evangeline. Even though Ray is singing to a star, it feels very genuine with his mix of French compliments and Louis' slow trumpet playing. Than there's the last musical number before the reprise of the opening track, Dig A Little Deeper. This is my personal favorite song in the film, and that's saying something because they're all great. Dig A Little Deeper incorporates a choir of roseate spoonbills to make it look like a church service on Sunday. It also has a great message behind it about finding what you need versus trying to get what you want. Also, Anika Noni Rose coming in with that extra verse was the perfect cherry on top. In addition to these spectacular musical numbers, Randy Newman also made a very memorable score incorporating strings and strong brass for intense scenes and some soft, subtle tunes for the quiet moments. Where the score truly shines is during Ray's death and funeral. From the sad reprise of Ma Belle Evangeline all the way up to the music slowy but surely picking up as Ray essentially becomes the brightness star in the sky next to Evangeline, this scene best showcases what a great score this film has. The song that plays during the credits, Never Knew I Needed by Ne-Yo, was also the picture bookend to the film, capturing the film's central message in a wonderfully crafted pop ballad with a beautiful piano tune.
Tumblr media
Where It Falters: 👆. No, seriously this film is still a 10/10 in my book, but I personally would've amended this response from Lottie to "Travis, when I said later, I really meant not ever." Still shoots the guy down but without making her speak for all women. This concludes my meaningless nitpick.
Tumblr media
Conclusion: The Princess and The Frog is without a doubt one of Disney's best films and Tiana is my personal favorite Disney Princess. The animation is spectacular, the characters are great, the songs are all wonderful, the voice acting is superb and it delivers a great message of finding what you need versus trying to get what you want. If you haven't seen this film, I highly recommend giving this film a watch on Disney+ if you have it. Thank you so much for reading and I'll see you soon ;)

This addition of Why It Worked is dedicated in memory of my grandmother, Margaret "Peggy" Simpson. I'll see you in Heaven Grandma.
