it's so funny to see posts where people call catradora toxic, even if they mean it as a compliment, like "oh we love toxic lesbians!!" because they're just. they're just not toxic though. like objectively. sorry to disappoint

youve mentioned offhand ur issues with thirsty sword lesbians, have u talked at length abt this somewhere before and if not do u want to? i want to hear ur thoughts hehe
now before i get into this i want to clarify: i like thirsty sword lesbians, overall! i think it takes some of the best stuff from monster hearts and refines it -- i think it does great and exciting things with pbta playbooks -- i think anyone making a pbta game should check it out because it's full of valuable ideas -- and i've had a lot of fun playing it!
however, i think it's just as flawed as it is brilliant. there's a few different flaws but the biggest one for me is a catastrophic clash between two things the game is trying to be. one on hand, it wants to be a catradora rpg. there's no shame in that, i love games that wear their influences on their sleeves--TSL¹ wants to be a game about kissing your rival after you've both been disarmed, about having a fraught and complicated relationship with your girl best friend who abandoned you to serve the dark lord, about having homoerotic sword duels where your blades lock and you stare into each other's eyes for just one second too long before one of you kicks the other in the chest. i think that's an admirable goal for an RPG and one that TSL hits a lot of the notes of--the fact that the move to "Figure Someone Out" has special questions you can only ask someone when you're duelling them is incredible design. the Strings system, adapted from Monsterhearts, the ability to fluster your enemies when you use the Entice move, the constant focus on what characters desire and how their actions conflict with those desires--so much of the game is working towards that!
unfortunately, the game also wants to be about queer resistance to homophobia and capitalist/imperialist hegemony. this is clear in its sample settings, with their eyerollingly on-the-nose conflicts like defending 'queertopia' and fighting the evil sorceress 'repressia'. but much more importantly, it's clear in the game. several of the playbooks are defined by their relationship to sexual hegemony--the beast is about someone who is othered and monsterised for expressing their existence and the seeker is about someone sheltered and prejudiced moving past that and discovering themselvs and others. like, it's not subtle--
Tumblr media
and to be clear, there's nothing wrong with that, either. just as i like a lot of TSL's swashbuckling girl-romancing flirting-at-swordpoint mechanics, i really appreciated how (although the game's outlook on what these forces are is predicably liberal and its tonal approach to these things is one that i personally find teeth-grindingly insufferable) these things are actually integrated into its mechanics. playbooks like the beast and the seeker (and the rest!) imply something about the world the game is set in and its sexual politics. this game is meaningfully queer in the way something like dream askew is, in that its mechanics ask you to actually explore your character's queerness specifically. this is good, and it's something that elevates it above about 90% of ttrpg stuff that sells itself as queer.
so if both these things are good, what's the problem? well, it's that they're two great (or at least--interesting) tastes that go fucking horribly together. the fundamental problem that i have with TSL and one that i think takes a lot of work to get around in your own campaigns is that it simultaneously wants you to be fighting (on the individual level) a lot of antiheroic ultimately sympathetic hot girls you can flirt with and kiss--a lot of 'i can fix her's or 'she can make me worse's--and on the broader narrative wants you to be fighting institutional queerphobia (and often, although this is nowhere near as actually supported by mechanics, a more generalized 'imperialism' or 'capitalism' or 'bigotry'). so you end up fighting 'those stupid sexy homophobes'--people who are according to the text (not just 'lore', but the rules text, the mechanics you're playing with!) simultaneously the violent enforcers of cisheteropatriarchy and a bunch of fuckable lesbians with sympathetic backstories.
& i just think those things are fundamentally at odds. the result is a game that if you try and play it at face value works at cross purposes with itself, attempting to do two perfectly valid things without considering what happens when the streams cross.
it also has a few other flaws--like many other PBTA games, its balance falls apart if you play any long campaign (my group and i had to figure out special alternative level-up rewards!) but it comes with no inbuilt way to neatly conclude a campaign or character. its tone is something that, as i often mention, i absolutely cannot fucking stand--it has a certain sense of humour that feels profoundly dated to me and was never my cup of tea when it was in vogue. this is something i try not to hold against the game bc it is very much a personal taste-level 'cringe' reaction but the game lays it on pretty fucking thick.
more to its detriment, it is profoundly, gratingly liberal in the exact way people who deploy that tone usually are. its understanding of anything outside queerphobia specifically is just a purely aesthetic & thoughtless 'imperialism is bad!'. it manages a more nuanced understanding of homophobia, but it only manages it on the individual level--for a game about queerness and about fighting systems of cisheteronormativity, it has no systemic or material understanding of these systems and no interest in establishing one.
and finally--and this is just one paragraph but it's so fucking awful i feel the need to complain about it here because i think about it often as an example of something i never want to write:
Tumblr media
this sucks! real bad! so deeply fucking silly to reassure people in your game that you called Thirsty Sword Lesbians that it's okay if you want to be cishet. like, it would be one thing to make a game where you can neatly extract the lesbianism and have the same game, a surface-level aesthetically queer game with no actual interest in queerness except as a marketing term. it would fucking suck but this paragraph would at least describe such a game. but TSL isn't that!!! . 'thirsty sword cishets' would be a very different and much worse game! awful and self-defeating paragraph. deeply silly concern to address and give airtime to. i didn't buy a game called 'thirsty sword lesbians' to be told 'its okay to be heterosexual i pwommy'
so yea just to reiterate: i like the game overall, i think there's a lot of good valuable stuff in there designwise despite all this. but i'm very ambivalent about it--ironically, i feel a love-hate relationship with this game about love-hate relationships. i admire it and yet i despise it! i long to put it at the tip of my sword and slowly tilt its cover up so that the pages look up at me coquettishly but with burning anger in their page numbers. if this book was a person id hatefuck it, is the joke, thats the joke im making, here, in this post. thanks
¹ i call it TSL whenever i can because the name 'Thirsty Sword Lesbians' makes me cringe out of my fucking skin. genuinely horrible name. i'm sure it's funny the first time you hear it, i got a mild chuckle the first time i heard it to, but it's such an obnoxious thing ot have to say repeatedly when seriously discussing it. should have stayed a placeholder name amiguitas

To this day, I am still rooting for a She-Ra Movie. My interest had never wavered. Your reasons may be different than mine, but for me, it's about closure.
Yes, certainly, we had a conclusion and can assume, probably with some great degree of confidence, of what would happen next for team BFS and SPT.
But there are so many stories to tell.
I DO want to see more CatrAdora. Just in general. I want to see them as inseparable as Spinnerella and Netossa. I want the tension between them when they argue as a couple.
But I also want to see them older. Like their ages in the 50s. I want to see Adora restless because she has a constant need to lead or fix something and Catra with a constant need to strategize a simple solutions to a complex problem, have the arguments that ensue, and then come to the conclusion that yeah, she was actually right. "25 years of you doubting me, and I still got it, Sparkles" and then Glimmer would groan because she knows she's right and she hates that.
I WOULD like to see a mission to rescue Angella. The immortal queen stuck BETWEEN realities. Or better, you'd see like 3 frames of Angella in the background implying she WAS already rescued and the story how they did that is just in the murals of the hallways that some character runs down so you'd have to go frame by frame to catch it.
I would love to see their growth. I would love to see them in more control but still handling the chaos of the universe. "Babe wake up, a new horde bitch just dropped" and adora just snorts away and mumbles frr honor of siiiiiigh sssskulll tomorrow okay? and rolls back to sleep.
I really just need more. I need to know more about the she-ra universe too.

names in ship names used to be in the order "first is top, second is bottom." now while this isn't necessarily true anymore, since most ship names are now ordered in the way that sounds best (ie. lumity sounds better than amiluz, anxceit sounds better than dexiety, catradora sounds better than adatra, etc), this does imply that shadow the hedgehog is a bottom in nearly every mlm ship he's featured in. in this essay i will

I'm kinda curious why you don't like catradora? Is it just not your thing or do you have reasons? Just kinda curious as I almost always only see the "they were enemies! And that makes it too toxic!" But I saw you like catra/glimmer so yeah, just curious as someone who personally likes it but also hasn't watched the show in ages
Thank you for your question
Yeah, I do hate it, mb not its fans (or at least not all of them, cuz most of them are actually super annoying, but anyways) tho. Also sorry for my bad English
As for the reasons, there are actually many reasons:
Starting with, like you said
1. Being toxic. But the difference with Glitra is that in their way It's not like Catra abuses Glimmer, no, they hate each other mutually, there ia no "abuser x victim" dynamic, bc they hurt each other mutually. Also there are no manipulations, guilt-trips, gaslighting and etc, they are completely honest with each other. While with Adora, their dynamic is rather "abuser x victim" than "enemies to lovers" bc Adora never wanted to hurt Catra, she was always only ensuring what Catra's doing and saying. Adora was always holding back, never tried to kill Catra or make her feel like nothing or hate herself and all her fights were litterally either self-defense or defense of her friends or other people who were attacked by Catra. While Catra always tried to hurt Adora, both mentally and physically, tried to kill her many times, tried to make her hate herself and etc, etc. She was the reason why Adora had such a strong hero complex and always wanted to sacrafice herself. Adora litterally had panic attacks bc of Catra. And the whole "it was a war" argument doesn't work here bc being a war criminal doesn't make Catra any better and bc Catra was toxic to Adora even when they were on the same side. She was always jealous, controlling, possesive and didn't want Adora to have other friends. She wanted Adora to belong to her, which was shown many times. Also she physically hurt her many times, gaslighted her and etc. So their relationship would be much more abusive than Glitra relationship. And what makes it even worse is that Catra has learnt all her abusive traits from SW - recognized Adora's abuser. Catra litterally copies everything the main abuser who has traumatized Adora in the forefront does, which is actually creepy af too. Even she tortures Adora in s4 she says that she took the idea from SW. So she just takes the abuse she (and Adora) has been throught and intentionally uses it against Adora
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even if you have a kink for abusive ship, you should write them well and not put them in a kid show, normalizing abuse by this. There are examples of good enemies to lovers in kid shows which aren't abusive and It's fine (like Dipper/Pacifica, Talon/Penny, Bubblegum/Marcelin kinda, Amaya and Janai (It's good and It's wlw too), even Glimmadora would work since they were enemies too and etc).
Tumblr media
2. The whole being "basically adoptive sisters" thing. They aren't actual sisters, but they were actually implied to be so. I won’t even mention every time the CREW referred to them this way (however, there were many times), but the main problem is that their whole relationship is fully based on the "Skapegoat & Golden child" dynamic. And SW is a mother figure who loves one child and hates the other one, who always tries to earn her love and jealous and hate the favourite child. Some people say SW was just a teacher and not a mom figure, but it would be a lie at least bc 1. The crew has stated SW as a mother figure, so It's canon anyways 2. It was said by Adora that SW was like a mother to her 3. You don't try to earn your teacher's LOVE like Catra does 4. The whole thing that SW sees herself in Catra and wanted fulfil her ambitions throught Adora. Also SW wasn't a mother figure for other cadets, it wasn't actually her duty to teach Lonnie, Kyle, Rogelio and others. She was a right hand, not a teacher and she was there only for Adora bc she decided so and for Catra bc Adora wanted so. So, even if you're trying to ignore it, It's a huge part of the plot and a base of their relationship. Oddly enough, but many catradora shippers actually love to admit that "SW was a bad abusive mother", "Catra & Adora have mommy issues", "Adora is a favourite child" and etc, yet when you point it out, they start denying it. I find it strange.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another thing is subjective, just my personal vision, but I highly dislike all "childhood friends" ships (mb with exceptions if they always actually had feelings for each other, but in catradora case we find out about it only later, especially from Adora's perspectice). Also there is a biological theory that if kids know each other since the age under 6, they see each other as siblings anyways, especially if they grow up together in the same house, especially with the sams parent figure. So, even tho it's subjective, It's an important reason to ms. And I actually did thought of them so and thought everyone does untill I joined the fandom. So even if I don't recognize "see each other as siblings" thing when it comes to usual friends who haven't been grown up together, I do with those who have. Flr example, Renora. This ship was always weird to me and when they become canon, it didn't make me love it. I don't think It's problematic, but it absolutely does make me feel uncomfortable. Like, if you haven't developed your feelings for each other for during these 10 years you were together, where are the feelings suppose to come from later?
But yeah, childhood friends thing is my subjective reason
3. Catra's redemption arc was horrible. And redemption arc is one of the most important things when it comes to enemies-to-lovers, since It's the thing that suppose to help them become canon. Everyone immidiatly has to forgive Catra and no one calls Catra out for what she has done. Even Glimmer, who's mom was killed bc of Catra or Adora who has been abused by Catra for years. And so Catra doesn't even actually changes. She just swaps sides and immidiatly becomes Adora's gf. That's the problem. If you write enemies-to-lovers, do it well
Tumblr media
4. The whole way the shis was handled. It just doesn't make sense and completely ruins the whole development of almost all characters. Adora's development is getting destroyed and she just comes back to s1 Adora. Her whole arc was about stopping blaming herself for Catra's actions, separating from her abusers and getting a life. But she just ends up forgiving Catra and considering Catra a victim of herself. And starts blaming herself for "leaving" Catra again. They just forget everything they've been throught. And what about Catra? Catra was obsessed the whole time. She hated Adora and liked hurting her. Catra was litterally addictive to Adora. It wasn't love, it was possesion. And giving an addict a drug isn't a way to go. Catra should separated from Adora, learn how to live without the idea of being "either with her, or againt her". That's why I think her leaving the Horde with Scorpia and going to a Crimson waste would be the best happy ending for her. She would get a life, get what she wanted (being loved), what she needed and what she deserved and let her issues go. So they just aren't good for each other. Having Adora around was always hurting Catra, Catra never was able to fully show herself when Adora was with her in the Horde and she even saya that Adora leaving gave her a chance to fulfil her actual potential, so Adora leaving was the best thing happened to her. Even if Catra wasn't fully agree with her own words, it was basically truth, bc Catra actually did feel bad bc of Adora when they were together (it wasn't Adora's fault, but still). Catra was always blaming Adora for her problems and didn't stop even in s5. So It was bad not only for Adora, but for Catra as well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Adora never even loved Catra before. If Catra's possesion can be called love at some point, it doesn't work this way with Adora. Yeah, Adora cared about Catra as a friend, but DT was right, Adora didn't need Catra. She didn't have such big problems with letting Catra go. After s1 she forgot Catra and never recalled her as a friend, only as an enemy. So her whole "I love you too" thing just came out of nowhere and was a lie. Just like "I never hated her" bc Adora did and it was shown. Adora got new friends who care about her and getting Catra was absolutely unnecessary for her. It doesn't work even as a Stockholm Syndrome or a trauma bond, bc it was never shown and Adora got a development
Actually, if it did make sense, mb I would like it, but unfortunately it really doesn't and only ruines everything the show has been building for years, which is sad, cuz I used to love both Catra and Adora
It's also strange to me how shippers compare catradora to so many actually good wlw couples like Korrasami, Harlivy, Caitvy, Lumity, Bumbleby, Chaggie and etc, while in reality their relationship is much closer to Tauradonna (which is actually hated by Bumbleby shippers, which is ironic) and Citrus and actually Shin Soukoku and Simon/Grace, or even some actual/ almost actual siblings like Vi/Jinx, Zuko/Azula, Rapunzel/Cassandra, Claudia/Soren, Qrow/Raven, Maki/Mai, Nightwing/Red hood, Thor/Loki, White queen/ Red queen and etc.
But I would prefer to compare it to Shin Soukoku tho
So, these are the main reasons. Actually I don't understand why can't catradora shippers just admit that their ship is problematic and enjoy it as it is, bc it doesn't really make sense to just make ship a full ooc and make it romantic and sweet to like it, bc it litterally goes against the whole point and everything it always has been. So I have a big respect for those shippers who do admit the problems and enjoy it without lying to themselves and gaslighting others tbh
Anyways, thanks for a question, it was actually interesting to answer it and you can feel free to asnwer, desagree or agree, Im not a hater or smth

My Adventures With Superman - A Rambling Set Of Thoughts
Okay, I know I don't USUALLY make posts like this and I especially hate getting cynical and nitpicky about these sorts of things because I just don't wanna contribute to all the negativity on the internet... But this is something I just couldn't shake.
So last night I watched the first season of My Adventures With Superman and... I have a lot of mixed feelings about to be brutally honest which is a shame because I know SO many people really loved this show.
Spoilers for season 1 obviously
For the most this show is great and it has a good foundation for Superman and gets him and his relationship with Lois so right. I love how Clark is this big, soft himbo twink dork who really reminds me of Adora from She-Ra and Lois is this fun tomboy who falls head over heels for him. And to be honest, all of their moments were genuinely the highlight of the show for me. SERIOUSLY ITS LIKE CLARK AND LOIS BUT MADE FOR SAPPHICS LIKE ME AND I ADORE THEM
Tumblr media
I love the art style and animation too and really does put a very fresh new aesthetic on DC stuff. Sure, it's a bit too much like She-Ra and Voltron in places, but for DC, it's a really good breath of fresh air. Seriously, look at the designs of Deathstroke and Livewire!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But sadly, that's not all the show is and this is where I have to sadly talk about my negatives with it.
Sooooo… this show was written a lot of the same people who wrote She-Ra and it seems to be a big fan of various anime things too, especially Dragon Ball Z and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
To that end, the show has basically... turned Superman into a mixture of Adora and Goku, not just in terms of personality traits and in Adora's case, her relationship with Catra (Seriously, if Clark was a woman and blonde, I would swear she and Lois would just be Catradora)
This sadly does apply to how this show portrays the Kryptonians, who are implied to MOSTLY be a race of evil conquerors who tried to attack Earth only for Krypton to be destroyed. This is VERY similar to how the First One's were depicted in She-Ra, as well as how the Saiyans were in Dragon Ball Z. One could also argue that their attack on Earth is a weird mashup of the movie Arrival and the Second Impact from Evangelion but that's me getting very nitpicky.
Tumblr media
So naturally, we have Adora and Goku's traits being applied to Superman. And…. those traits don't really work for Superman, at all. Now I should be clear, it seems to be that Jor-El and Lara were actually like rebels fighting the evil Kryptonians (which is ironically Mara's whole deal... you seeing the She-Ra pattern here yet?) but like... I don't like this idea at all. Poor Clark even has a fucking breakdown later on and thinks he's actually some evil weapon meant to conquer Earth AGAIN just like Adora from She-Ra being used as a weapon by the First One's. And I just feel bad for him because he's trying to be the good decent Superman we all love... but he's getting dragged into this plot that pretty much breaks him... and I don't really like it.
And then there's a whole subplot about Lois meeting alternate versions of herself and discovering alternate versions of Superman who are evil (which is bizarrely how Kryptonite is introduced in this show) which.... yeah I don't like that plot either. Nor am I the fan of Task Force X pulling the whole "the Government is treating clark as hostile because they think he's an evil alien" plot which I have gotten kinda tired of seeing in a lot of modern Superhero media. It's either Superheroes being hated or hunted by the government or being made to work for them.
And you know where this all probably came from for this show in particular? Fucking Zack Synder and Man of Steel. It's kind of ironic because a lot of this show feels like its in response to the Synderverse, like it feels obligated to comment on how people see Superman now because of those crappy movies, something that I know James Gunn is probably gonna do as well with his superman movie basically a live action version of Superman vs the Elite.
And just…. no, none of this shit is really necessary nor is it a good idea. Because it kinda takes away some bits of Superman that I like. I know the show isn't done yet but… I can already make a good guess of where it's going to go. And where it's going… idk if I'm gonna like a whole lot.
It is clearly a show wanting to be different from all that has been done before with Superman…. but by being different for the sake of it, it's doing a lot of stuff I just don't like.
I just want there to be a day when we get a Superman thing that doesn't have to justify the man's own existence and role in a story because some objectivist edgelord made a bad movie with him in it eleven years ago.
So yeah, by turning Superman into more or less mostly Adora from She-Ra... I think they might have messed him a bit in my eyes. I hope season 2, whenever that comes out hopefully pushes things in a more hopeful direction and I could genuinely call this a good adaption of Superman. Because there is so much potential with just from the relationship of Clark and Lois alone that tells me that these creators just GET how Superman's character is.
So yeah, I hope that long rambling thought made sense.

Just sending solidarity to the Huntlows in this trying time from the Glimbows because we literally had...
an entire episode in the very first season where the main plot revolves Glimmer's jealousy about Bow
dozens of parallel moments to mirror the main couple over all five seasons (queues up the Catradora / Glimbow 18 fanedit, you all know the one)
an explicit love confession from both parties on screen
a kiss
a future vision where they are married
...and dunder-headed ninnies are STILL claiming that Glimmer and Bow are "just implied" or "not really canon"
Nothing will ever be enough to please the haters, they are just gonna hate. You go on with your bad funky selves and celebrate your blorbos with content that makes you happy and remember that the block button is your friend!

Opinion: Every yuri ship now is just "they comfort eachother with puppy dog eyes then hug" and it's extremely boring
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
There is a post criticizing Hazbin Hotel that is circulating, which more or less points out how sex in the show is not only used for only comedy or drama, but still only something for men. Charlie and Vaggie are girlfriends, they've been in a relationship for three years, they sleep in the same bed, but the two have no sexual chemistry. The most I can think of is Charlie admiring Vaggie's wings with a "they look niiiiiice 😏".
While I don't agree with the conclusion (that it's a problem that Angel is a slut who is ruining himself through sex and has to be redeemed by a pure sexless person - I think it's more complicated than that), I have to concede that Chaggie is just the latest one in a long list of sapphic couples that are very sanitized, and thanks to that post I noticed that I haven't seen many steps forward.
The trend is noticeable. While m/m official couples are still rare, f/f couples have become increasingly commonplace, even in children's media, but they're usually safe enough because women can hold hands and kiss, but anything more than that and it's suddenly fetishizing I guess. There are some exceptions like Catradora, but uhhhh I have reservations about that one lmao. (SU has also some exceptions in the form of Rosepearl, which was much more complex and ultimately something Pearl had to move on from, and Jaspis, which was a very rare depiction of f/f abuse even if it only for one episode. SU is a bit of an outlier with its nearly all female cast, though)
The message is obvious. Men, gay men in particular, are inherently sexual, so they're still a taboo, to keep in the background at best. Women are nice and palatable and good representiation tokens as long as they are not too sexy :) (even if that sexiness is just, idk, implying they have a private life or find each other hot)
From what I read here, this trend is also present in fandom, where it's all about that forbidden yuri and that lesbian longing and that hand holding and those deep unfathomable emotions but you better not cross the line into porn because, well, women don't love women like those dirty men do :^) we are purer than that :^)

Hey! Based on the other ask you got, I also wanna talk about Rogelio and Kyle if you don't mind :). I've been on the Fandom Wiki and I've noticed some things.
Apart from the obvious that they are different species and it can be considered zoo (their ship name doesn't help this suspicion as it's literally Repkyle and it implies reptile x kyle)
Anyways. It is canon that Kyle cannot understand Rogelio. So they wouldn't be able to like.. talk. At all. This makes their dynamic even weirder, as there are humans that can understand Rogelio. Why did they choose their partner to be the one person who can't?? Don't ask me. (This isn't saying that non-verbal people can't have relationships. Although it's questionable as to why they chose a lizard to be their only mute rep. Also I believe Lonnie can understand Rogelio, despite him not talking?)
Another thing, this is something I found on the SPoP fandom wiki, not sure whether or not it's canon. But it says that Rogelio and Kyle are Shadow Weaver her wards. They grew up together, not sure if that implies they have a sibling-like bond. Just like c//a :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, yeah, I guess that it's all up for interpretation just like how every sibling relationship in this show is!! (ugghh)
To be honest, I think it's quite.. poor writing to consider that Kyle and Rogelio grew up together, with the same mum, and Kyle still doesn't have the ability to understand Rogelio. I guess that's a personal opinion, however it seems.. odd.
Anyways I know that the Fandom Wiki isn't a reliable source, but it's a source. Probably just as reliable as Nate's Twitter posts (about his own show) and people take that as cannon 🤷‍♂️
Also I love how it's implied that Rogelio is transgender. The representation we needed: fucking lizards.
Oh I didn't know that but that makes it worse, I know some people like it but it's definitely a yikes for me. I honestly just don't know how they couldn't of made them communicate through sign language or have Kyle be able to understand him, that would've fixed the main problem I had with the shop but nope! Just throw together the reptile with the only person who cannot understand him and the person he may be siblings with! Yikes. Also them being siblings reminds me of another ship we know... *cough* Catradora *cough*

On Twitter there are polls to elect the best wlw ship, and I couldn't help but notice the snide remarks about RWBY and Bumbleby. I can understand misogynistic and homophobic men shitting on the show, but queer people? Why? Aren't we on the same side? Why are you insulting bmblb???
Yeah, I've seen it and honestly, the whole thing is both sad and hilarious. Bumbleby, Catradora, Bubbline, Lumity, Damie, Korrasami, Xena/Gabrielle-- I'm literally a fan of most of the ships in that poll. People attacking one ship or another are fucking stupid, because they're all great and important in their own ways. This poll thing is supposed to be fun and people are taking it too personal.
Now, people attacking RWBY and Bumbleby over this is sad as well, because they probably haven't watched the show and are going with just what they've heard from haters. Because if you are queer and you actually watch the show, then you know that Bumbleby is going to be canon and CRWBY's not baiting anyone. They have canonical romantic feelings towards one another. It is clear that they are going to be a couple, they simply are taking their time to develop them. It's called a slowburn for a reason, guys.
People talking about the lack of rep in this show is also kind of hilarious. Blake is canonically bisexual, Yang is canonically sapphic as well and, like I said, it's clear that they are going to be a couple. Ilia is also a lesbian. Saphron and Terra are both sapphic. Coco is a lesbian, too. Scarlet and Nolan are gay. And of course, we have May Marigold, who is canonically a transgender woman, and Shion, a non-binary character. And more queer-coded characters.
You can argue that Coco, Nolan and Scarlet being gay is only mentioned on side content, like RWBY Chibi or the novels. Or that Shion is only part of Ice Queendom. But even if you don't want to count them because of that—even if the first three are probably gonna be mentioned next volume, all of them being in Vacuo and all—, the main show still includes five canon sapphic characters (2 of them, 2/4 of the protagonists) and a trans character.
And no “they are implied, not explicit, so homophobes can still watch the show” bullshit, like I've seen some people say. Blake and Yang having feelings for each other is not implied, it's a fact; even other characters, like Nora, say so: it's pretty explicit. Ilia, a girl, confesses to Blake, another girl, that she used to be in love with her. Saphron—who is based of fucking Sappho—and Terra are quite literally married, call each other “my wife” on-screen, and have a child together. And May quite literally, explicitely says she's trans on-screen as well.
Could the show have more MLM rep? Absolutely, and the writers themselves have said they want to include more. But criticizing RWBY for “lack of rep” is proof that you either don't watch the show or you're stupid, because RWBY has more canon queer representation than most mainstream shows.
