Arthur Morgan-

Honestly, for him, I think he would be so fucking smitten with you

You would literally be everything he wanted in a partner

Small (or well smaller than what he would’ve imagined) but so much cuter and god the fire in you? To die for

He can 100% see himself risking it all for you and going to settle down to have a family with you- but that’s the future for him

The present with the gang around he would be hard to read

Or that’s how he likes to imagine himself

The second you stroll up to him and have to crane your neck to look up is the second his heart melts and that gentle giant comes out (maybe for a second but everyone in the gang definitely saw it)

Your feisty side originally made him assume that you weren’t the touchy-feely type

So when you first cuddled with him he was probably as stiff as a board and awkward but with you coaxing him into more cuddles which he always accepted he has realized how much he loves them

Poor boy is definitely touch-starved so he would never ever deny your cuddles no matter what time of day it is or who is present (Though he may get flustered)

It would become one of his favorite things to do with you

Charles Smith-

Omg for Charles since he was a loner before the group and since the group has mostly taller people he would be astounded by your height at first

I feel like he would be on edge the whole time and make sure that he never ever harms you

That would probably be his number 1 fear in the relationship (Poor babe is scared he’ll crush you with his pinky or something)

It would take him a while to get used to being in a relationship with someone as small as you but thanks to your feisty side it makes him feel more comfortable eventually

It definitely eases him that you are not as fragile as you look (though let’s be honest he probably would adore how fragile you look since he would take on the protector role in the relationship)

He knows you are fully capable of protecting yourself though

This boy is touch-starved to but he has boundaries

He would set certain times or have cuddles only restricted to nights and away from prying eyes

He tries to compromise with you but really he believes that intimate moments should remain in private and once you do get to the cuddle session he will be absolute putty in your hands (Or you will be. It probably all depends on his mood)

Javier Escuella-

This gorgeous man would never say anything about your attitude or height… in English of course

In Spanish, he’ll be teasing you relentlessly and you’ll be dying to find out what he’s saying

Your feisty attitude with this just makes him happy (and a tad impressed if you get mad enough to try and hit him)

No one else is allowed to comment about your height beside him- You both make sure of that

It just doesn’t catch his attention and I feel like he would try to avoid you since your small stature and feisty nature reminds him of Abigail

Though once he does give in and you two become friends he’ll start to appreciate your stature and nature

He won’t comment on your height but he will purposely place things out of your reach to watch you struggle for it or so he could be “smooth” and help you (Yes imagine the cliché thing where the guy goes right behind the girl and they touch hands or something lmao- that would be John if he likes you)

Once he is confident that you aren’t like Abigail and you won’t get mad at him for teasing or initiating contact with you he’ll become more confident

I feel like he would be the first to try to cuddle and so when you let him he would just be awestruck

He doesn’t care too much about PDA around the gang but every once in a while he’ll pull you onto his lap and honestly if you let him or encourage him- he’ll probably marry you on the spot

John will appreciate you wanting to cuddle him but sometimes he’ll have his moods where he’ll need to be alone for a while

Would be the one to immediately say something about your height the first time you show up in the gang

He has no shame in teasing you, flirting with you, constantly picking on you

When he genuinely likes someone he’ll seem like a bit of a jerk but the cuteness of it is undeniable

Everyone in the gang will know why he acts like that and eventually you will too

However, because of your feisty nature, the beginning of the friendship and relationship would be both of your personalities clashing

He would 100% enjoy this though where you may get annoyed beyond relief

He is the one who would pick you up and carry you around camp to either piss you off or show off your smaller stature

1000000% Would be the one to use your head as an armrest and be all smug bout it

I think in general that Sean with a very short s/o would be a hilarious relationship

He could have his romantic moments but there will be absolutely no witnesses to show this

Unless he goes to Arthur, Hosea, or Dutch for help on how to charm you (That is the only time those three will have not lost faith in Sean’s romantic life)

It’s all very interesting to him

He likes looking over then, lazily chewing on his nail as he looks at one of your paintings of his eyes

arthur morgan

he left you for no more than four minutes to get some stuff from the general store, and when he glances out the window he sees someone chatting you up and you looking extremely uncomfortable.

immediately storms out of the store, forgetting to pay- so he's got stolen items in his bag now- and marches straight up to the guy

"this man botherin' you, darlin'?" he asks, gesturing to the man who seems offended. arthur can only laugh in the creep's face when he asks who arthur is.

your hands on arthur's bicep makes his chest swell with pride; and he immediately explains that he's your boyfriend.

the man, intimidated by your lover, spits a venomous insult at you before storming off

arthur smiles as you kiss his cheek and thank him- but the moment is soon interrupted by the angry shopkeeper who wants arthur to pay for the stuff he had in his bag.

john marston

he. is. pissed.

immediately runs up to the man and shoves him away from you, getting in his face and squaring up.

if arthur knew what the word simp was, he'd call john it everyday, bc thats kinda how he's acting.

you just have to watch as john challenges the man to a fistfight- and thats when you have to step in because john is absolutely shit at fist fighting.

your hands on his chest and your soft words are enough to make john back down, and he dismisses the man immediately.

as soon as the creep leaves, john hugs you protectively, apologising for making a scene and offers to buy you whatever you want from his cut from the recent robbery he did

please reassure him that everything's fine because he will beat himself up for 'ruining' your evening

sean macguire

this man never leaves your side, he's like your personal guard dog

in fact- he notices the man sauntering over immediately, and decides to watch carefully just in case he was reading the situation wrong

however, body language to sean is everything, and the way the stranger cocks a hip, leans in and mutters something in your ear- to which you recoil and immediately look to your lover- is enough to make sean swoop into action

argues with the man immediately when you look at him, and grabs your hip protectively to pull you behind himself

sean- the guard dog he is- will literally start barking at the man if he doesn't leave. it's very comedic to watch but it eventually works because the guy starts to feel awkward and leaves.

sean will immediately spin around and hug you, asking for a kiss because he saved you... but at the end of the day, sean's hero complex is sated and he's extremely happy

charles smith

this boy is so fucking tall and built- he's just naturally intimidating to most men

all he has to do is walk up behind you and glare at the man harassing you to make him turn and run

you're obviously a little confused, and then you turn around and see charles smiling innocently at you.

"was he bothering you, my love?" he asks, smile so innocent yet so smug- he's kinda proud of himself for getting the man away from you without causing a fight

(not that he wouldn't fight for you- he just prefers little conflict when it's not necessary)

if you're still upset, he takes you around town and spoils you as much as he can to cheer you up <3

if the guy walks past again, he will definitely glare at the man whilst wrapping his arm around your shoulders until he's out of view

he's petty like that

micah bell

as soon as he sees the man trying to chat you up from across the bar, micah sees red

he practically flies over the bar and lunges at the creep, socking him square in the jaw

this obviously devolves into a bar brawl- with micah and the harasser in the spotlight of it all

eventually, you manage to get to your boyfriend and grab his arm to try and pull him out of the fight- but micah's elbow jerks on instinct so he elbows you in the nose

as soon as you yelp, he turns around and noticed what's happened; and god he feels awful

knocks the guy out with a bottle to the head, and grabs your hand to lead you from the saloon and into the quiet street

presses a rag to your nose and apologises quietly- you can literally see the guilt in his eyes, he looks like a kicked dog

when you assure him it's alright, he visibly deflates with relief. showers you with kisses to show how sorry he is for the entire situation

micah's hand will never leave your hip until you two are back at camp and in bed; then he's hugging you and asking if you're okay after the whole night

lets you lay on his chest and talks to you until you fall asleep- always assuring you that no creep's gonna get their hands on you so long as he's alive

kieran duffy

this poor boy is absolutely petrified

but... he has to stand up for you! he has to help you! you're his partner!

you helped him when he was tied to that tree, so he marches over with fake confidence and confronts the guy harassing you

as soon as the man replies with a snarky comment, kieran's confidence dissipates and he's a stammering mess

"i-i said leave 'em alone!"

holds up his fists to fight the guy, but in reality keiran has absolutely no clue how to fight- he can barely shoot a can off a wall let alone fight someone

sooo- he gets his ass kicked, but he did it for love!

spends the rest of the evening getting patched up by you as he asks if you're okay

"i'm alright, sweetheart! promise, it's just a scratch... are you alright?"

will literally cry if you are grateful, he sees himself as a failure and is embarrassed that he got his ass beat in front of you- but knowing that you don't care and that you're just happy he's okay sends him over the moon <3

javier escuella

he's sat aside from you, and he puts his trust in you to handle the situation.

watches the guy's every move- its only when the guy goes to grab you that javier jumps up and snatches the guy's wrist.

turns out the fella had friends, so it's technically javier versus four people

javi is a fierce fighter compared to others, and he's passionate about keeping you safe, so he's both protecting you from the guys and fighting them

eventually, after one of them gets a fair punch on javi's side, he gets tired of the combat and draws his knife, giving a warning swipe in their direction

they get nervous around the weapon and immediately scatter, making javier holster it again.

you lover immediately turns to you, hugging you tightly as his adrenaline wears off.

ignores your attempts at pampering him and makes your safety and comfort his top priority

considering the situation, you're extremely shaken up, so javi gently rubs your arms, gives you kisses and takes you home

as soon as your safe in his tent, javier feels like he can fully relax, but still stays alert incase anyone had tailed the two of you home

he'd protect you in exchange for his life- even if you hate it- but javier's not going to let anything hurt you, even if it kills him.

recency bias notwithstanding, here you go —

Beartown trilogy by Fredrik Backman: easily one of the best things I've read; about an ice hockey town and how the sport is both toxic and redeeming for the town; he does people beautifully and I have cried multiple times on public transport while reading this

Figuring by Maria Popova: it looks at how creativity is a collective human project and how the best things/the truth about the world is almost always uncovered when people encounter other people and ideas. The book has galaxy brain energy and it made me feel all fuzzy and soft about the human project after reading it <3

Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe: about the IRA and the Troubles in Northern Ireland and its bearing on politics now; how violence of this sort lives on in societies and cultures long after it has ended; how cultures deal with (or fail to) morally dubious histories. There's just so much to think about here!

Appliance by J. O. Morgan: a short dystopian novella about this machine that is basically teleporter. The book follows how its growth and occupation of the society is basically inevitable; makes really chilling and smart observations on authenticity and scientific progress along the way

The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen: follows the Lambert family at the end of the 1990s and through them, about everything up, socially and economically, with American culture then. Really well written and one of Franzen's best

The Room on the Roof by Ruskin Bond: a coming-of-age story he wrote when he was 17; somewhat autobiographical and captures his life between England and India as a child and teenager among friends and family

There but for the by Ali Smith: about the chaos that develops around a family and particularly a man when said man goes into one of the rooms at a dinner party and locks himself in it; he becomes a sort of lightning rod for a lot of politics and rhetoric, and the book shows this in really witty ways. There's great wordplay and endless puns and you'll have fun while reading it

Our Bodies, Their Battlefield by Christina Lamb: about what war does to women, and more specifically about how rape is and should be tried as a war crime; it's part journalism and in part an exploration of how we can make things better on this front. Very harrowing but very very good

I will also direct you here for some comfort books, and here for some more fiction i really like

This item, H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, faced strong opposition in the House Rules Committee. Howard Smith, Chairman of the committee, refused to schedule hearings for the bill. Emanuel Celler, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, attempted to use this discharge petition to move the bill out of committee without holding hearings. The petition failed to gain the required majority of Congress (218 signatures), but forced Chairman Smith to schedule hearings.

88th CONGRESS. Imagine; Falling asleep on their shoulder- SFW

With: Arthur, John, Charles, Sean, Kieran, Javier, Lenny, and Bill.

Arthur Morgan

Arthur was half-listening to another of Uncle’s stories, leaned back against the log you were both propped up against, when he felt something drop onto his shoulder. About to shove whoever it was off, he froze upon seeing you leaned against him, eyes shut as you finally gave in to the rest you so needed. Glancing back at the group, the brunette rolled his eyes as he watched Pearson holding out his hands for the other three men to reluctantly shove a few bills into.

John Marston

After nearly three hours of guard duty, you were practically thanking God when Bill came to relieve you from your post. You made your way back to camp, pulling up a chair at a table next to John and watching him play blackjack with Lenny. A few games in, you already felt your eyes drifting shut, and ended up with your cheek pressed against Johns shoulder.

He finally looked up at you, eyes widening slightly as he realized what had happened. Looking back to Lenny, he groaned as the younger man offered a smug grin, picking up the game where they left off.

John was stuck in the same spot until long after Lenny had ended the game.

Charles Smith

You begrudgingly had agreed to going hunting with Charles after a fair amount of his insistence, and the mountain of a man quickly realized why you never asked or were asked to go hunting. Most of your day was spent tracking down a deer multiple times after you had scared it off from clumsily snapping a branch underfoot.

The man finally had enough and (as nonchalantly as possible) asked if you would be interested in foraging some ingredients for Pearson. Luckily, he was well aware that you knew your plants and fungi, and didn’t have to worry about you bringing back something potentially poisonous to camp.

What he wasn’t prepared for, however, was when you were practically falling asleep standing up when he returned to your shared horse with a deer on his shoulder. Albeit after a bit of your stubborn complaining, though, he was able to convince you to sit in front of him on the ride back and rest against his front, so he could make sure you wouldn’t fall off the horse.

You spent the ride back cuddled against him with one of his arms around your midsection protectively.

Sean Macguire

He was telling some story to the group, another one of the life lessons his Pa’ taught him. The Irishman was aware that his stories bored you half to death, but he only stopped speaking momentarily when you nodded off, leaning over and weighing in on his side. He tucked an arm around you, fixing your jacket so it covered you more, and was launching himself back into his story telling.

What the redhead didn’t realize, was the smile spreading across your face as he fussed over you and made sure you were comfortable.

Kieran Duffy

The poor man. You had been teasing him nearly all day already, and he finally caught a break when you walked off to spend time with Miss Jones, saying something to him about helping the ladies with a few chores that needed doing.

He was taking a break from tending to the horses at the moment, leaned up against a tree with the brim of his hat shielding his eyes from the afternoon sun. Just as his eyes were closing, he felt a “thump” on the grass next to him, and looked up just in time to see you getting onto the ground and laying your head in his lap gingerly.

“Hey, Kieran, you don’t mind if I join you, right?” His heart raced, his pulse only evening out when you grinned, eyes fluttering shut as you fell asleep(?)

Wait- now you were asleep! Good lord, you would be the death of him.

Javier Escuella

He’s been tuning his guitar. Or at least, that’s what he had been doing before you came over and removed the instrument from his grasp, setting it on a table nearby and replacing its spot in the ravenettes’ lap. Any other time, Javier would have immediately began flirting with you the moment you took his guitar, but the obvious fatigue in your face silenced him, and he didn’t object to the embrace for even a second.

After a few minutes, he started humming in your ear, gently rocking as his voice carried a light melody.

Lenny Summers

It was a long day. You, Lenny, and Sean had set out to rob a stagecoach, and as fate would have it, the lockbox in the back was actually molded into the carriage, and the three of you decided it was a better idea to steal the entire stagecoach rather than waste time trying to crack open a lock box, or make noise using bullets.

Luckily enough, Sean recalled Arthur telling him about a fence near Valentine that would buy stolen stagecoaches, and your trio made their way through the countryside. Lenny had just stopped the carriage to swap places with Sean for a break from steering, and took a seat next to you.

You were already asleep, and the young man internally cringed at the angle your neck was at as you rested, debating on moving you into a more comfortable position. Before he could entertain the idea, though, the wagon hit a rock, and you jolted, falling over and into Lenny’s careful embrace. Had he known you would snuggle into him, he would have simply steadied you in your seat.

Bill Williamson

You were both sitting in the Rhodes jail, waiting for Sheriff Gray to finish looking over the bail money and paperwork so you could bring Uncle home before the weekend. Of course, the old fool had drank too much at the saloon and gotten a bit too friendly with a waitress.

Bill was currently mulling over what to say to Uncle once he was free to go, imagining each scenario in which he would get away with at least one punch to the jaw. His train of thought was cut off, however, once you toppled over on the bench and into the mans side. He caught you, and put an arm around you to keep you steady as you nodded off.

But when he was around to help, he put his all into it

No matter how mundane or small it may be, he always made sure to help you until satisfaction. Similar to the way he helps random people around the map, he helps you in the same way.

But the level at which you asked for help was quite baffling to Arthur, but he never made a comment on it. He would never want to make you feel as though you were somehow less competent at doing things than the average person

He liked the way you would try to strike up conversation with him whenever he was helping you, recounting his travels to you in detail upon request

Part of him wondered why the two of you didn’t just talk more often outside of his time helping you. What he didn’t know is that you were unable to come up with a decent, not-too-forthcoming, excuse as to why the two of you should spend more time together alone

He probably wouldn’t catch onto that fact too quickly, instead thinking you were just a person who wasn’t afraid of asking for help

He’d definitely think something was up when he realizes he’s the only one you ask

Maybe he’s just a dependable guy? He thinks to himself

But when you ask him to help you go fishing, come to find out you didn’t even have a rod, it was too late to back out as the two of you were already alone down the lake at Clemens point

He felt quite touched when you told him you really just wanted to spend time together, and that you weren’t sure how else to ask

Insisted you be more forward with him to establish a level of comfort between you two, but he still found it quite cute when you would shyly ask him for help

Eventually led to you two becoming very close, noticeably sweet on each other. Even the gang was able to catch on.

Even though the two of you had been in an established relationship, your bashfulness did not end.

Asking for help for sexual matters was something you subtly hinted at or wordlessly requested, rather than outright saying it

Arthur himself was a man who needed clear permission, and your hints would be met with crudely sexual questions asking for confirmation

This man is as dense and stupid as a bag of rocks

The man himself doesn’t even know what he wants, so figuring out what you want is mental gymnastics on its own

He’s around pretty often helping around camp, and he doesn’t mind taking on the brunt of your chores as well

Doesn’t realize what you’re trying to do so sometimes he turns you down, saying he’s too busy

“Are you really that helpless?”

He’d stand there confused as you stormed off angrily, only to have him follow you around camp begging for forgiveness

“I ain’t mean that, I’m happy to help you. I’m a fool, honest.”

You’d forgive him eventually

If it’s a more tedious task you need help with, he would get into the zone. Honing in all his attention while trying to fulfill his efforts in helping you as competently as he can

Focuses so much, that sometimes if you try to strike up a conversation about his day, he’ll either shut you down, or be so concentrated he won't even register your question

“Hold on, can you stop talking for a sec? I’m tryna concentrate.”

Would be equally as confused when you huff angrily and turn away while crossing your arms

You realize yourself that John isn’t picking up any hints, so you offer your own help as a form of “repayment” for everything he’s done for you

Is also dense about that

“I appreciate the help, little lady. Though I don’t see why you’d willingly offer to help to fix a wagon wheel.”

Kinda laughable how oblivious he is

Eventually you have to muster up all the courage possible to ask him on a date to town

Emphasize the word date. Or else he’ll think you just want help with errands or something

Will accept, but won’t shut up the whole time about how sudden this is and how he would’ve never seen it coming

Would sometimes take your hands and make you do it as well

From an outside perspective, it appeared as though the two of you were just sitting around together and flirting rather than doing something to help you

“Like this?” You’d ask, which was followed by a giggle

It was pure self indulgence

He would often approach you himself and ask if you needed help on anything

Other times, he’d ask if you wanted to learn something new, showing you how to make weapons or how to identify certain plants from one another

Some tasks would be found mundane by others, but it was the most entertaining thing in the world as long as Charles was teaching you

You would feel most comfortable with him with asking him out, your question sounding more like a mutual profession of love from one another
