World Wildlife Day
The World is full of amazing creatures from every possible medium. From the birds of the air to the majestic whales of the sea, wildlife abounds in the most unusual and unexpected places. Wildlife benefits us in many ways and has since timed out of mind. World Wildlife Day is a day to remind us of our responsibilities to our world and the lifeforms we share it with.
Even though we might like to think so sometimes, humans aren’t the only living things on Earth. In fact, we’re far outnumbered by other living things, from animals and plants to fungi and bacteria. Wildlife isn’t just something that we passively observe; it’s part of our world, and something we need to care for. World Wildlife Day is your chance to celebrate all wildlife, from the smallest insect to blue whales. No matter what you love about wildlife, you can spend the day taking action to help protect it.
This day is all about raising awareness of wild flora and fauna across the world. Whether you love animals, you’re passionate about plants, or you’re concerned about climate change, it’s the day that you can use to educate yourself or others. You can celebrate the incredible biodiversity across the world and perhaps get out there to explore the huge range of flora and fauna the world has to offer. Celebrating World Wildlife Day is a must for anyone who loves our planet.
History of World Wildlife Day
On March 3rd, 1973 the United Nations General Assembly took a stand to protect Endangered Species throughout the world. Whether plant or animal, the importance of these species in every area of human life, from culinary to medical, could not be understated. At this time hundreds of endangered species were being threatened every year, and extinction was at a staggeringly high rate. CITES was put into place (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) to ensure that the world did not continue to hemorrhage species that would never be seen from again.
On December 20th, 2013 another step was taken to help spread awareness of the fragility of endangered species in the world. At its 68th session, the UN declared that each year World Wildlife Day would be dedicated to a new purpose and idea to help keep people abreast of the changing nature of our world, and the treasures we stand to lose from the animal and plant kingdom if we don’t take care.
Sometimes the day highlights an endangered animal or group of animals, while in other years, it has focused on a specific issue affecting the world of wildlife. Previous themes have included getting serious about wildlife crime and listening to young voices. World Wildlife Day is implemented by the CITES Secretariat, working together with relevant UN organizations. The day might not have been around for long compared to some others, but it’s already made a big impact. If you are passionate about the Earth and everything on it, celebrating is a must.
World Wildlife Day Timeline
1900 First wildlife conservation act is passed in the US
The Lacey Game and Wild Birds Preservation and Disposition Act is passed by Congress, which is the first legislation of its kind in the United States.
1948 International Union for Conservation of Nature begins
This is the first effort toward conservation that is supported by governments and societal organizations globally and its purpose is to encourage cooperation and the sharing of resources regarding conservation.
1961 World Wildlife Federation is established
A group of individuals who are passionate about protecting endangered species and places bands together to secure funding to this end.
1973 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
Negotiated in Washington DC, CITES is an international agreement between governments to protect the survival of various wild species by ensuring that trade does not threaten them. The signing takes place on March 3.
2013 First World Wildlife Day is celebrated
At its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declares March 3 as the day to raise awareness and and celebrate the wild animals all over the world.
How to Celebrate World Wildlife Day
You can celebrate World Wildlife Day on your own or with others, whether you just want to spend some time contemplating the majesty of nature or you want to spread the word about just how amazing the world’s wildlife is and how we can protect it.
The first thing that always comes to mind when we think about World Wildlife Day is heading out to our local zoo or botanical conservatory and reminding ourselves of the vast variety of life our world offers. If you have children, this can be one of the best ways to really introduce them to the wonders of the animal and plant kingdom. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, an outdoor excursion with a book of local flora and fauna (That’s plants and animals) can help make that connection come even closer to home.
You could also spend the day spreading the word about the importance of our wildlife. If you love our planet, what better way to celebrate everything on it than to encourage other people to care about it too? You might create an event, get people to sponsor you or create some education materials. Choose a cause that matters to you, whether it is a local one or an international wildlife issue that you want to highlight.
Another way you can get involved is finding out what this year’s theme is by stopping by www.wildlifeday.org and finding ways to get involved. The website has a map of events that you can search to discover things to do near you, or you could add your own event to encourage others to get involved too. You can find a range of useful materials on the site too, including posters, logos, a social media kit, and a special action card that you can use to take photos. You can find suggestions for World Wildlife Day hashtags to use on social media or any materials that you create for your event too. Some of their suggestions for getting involved include running a competition, engaging with influencers, celebrities and politicians, and showing your appreciation for those who help to conserve wildlife every day.
There are few things as important as making sure that the world’s biosphere remains healthy, every time we lose a plant or animal, we have no way of knowing if a cure for a disease or some new medical breakthrough was lost with them. World Wildlife Day is your opportunity to do your part in preserving our world.

Could you make sodalite with Joe burrow ? Thanks
Sodalite - Joe Burrow
Crystal Represention: Harmony
Genre: Fluff
“i really can’t imagine going through life without you.”
Tumblr media
A strong cold breeze of wind sends chills and shivers down your spine as the two of you walk out of the restaurant, with the bag of to-go boxes in Joe’s hand and the other hand interviewed with your hand.
“Are you cold? Do you need my jacket?” Joe asks, noticing the goosebumps on your arms from the cold breeze. He did warn you how cold it could get after the sun with down, but you argued that the heavy jacket wouldn’t look good with your sleeveless dress.
“No I’m fine.” you reply. “It was just a strong breeze.”
As the two of you walk back to the hotel, you couldn’t help but look around the beautiful city of New Orleans… The streets were busy with people walking by but, everyone was minding their business and weren’t paying much attention to their surroundings to see that the Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback was walking on the same side of the sidewalk with them.
For the past few weeks due to Joe’s football schedule and your very busy work schedule, it was hard for the two of you to have a good amount of quality time to spend with each other… but this week was Bye Week for the Cincinnati Bengals and there was no chance that you would be working for the week because you want to spend a much time as you could with Joe.
The two of you decided to take a short trip to New Orleans; the last time the two of you were in New Orleans was for the National Championship football game between LSU and Clemson University but, there wasn’t enough time for you and Joe to explore the city.
Even though Joe wanted to stay home during Bye Week to rest up for next week’s football game, he knew that you had been wanting to take a trip to New Orleans to explore the beautiful city… but due to the pandemic, busy schedules, and injuries the unplanned trip kept getting pushed farther back as time went on.
The short trip has been wonderful so far and getting reservations at The Pelican Club was the best way to spend your last night in New Orleans before the two of you have to get on a private plane back to Ohio just two days before the busy schedules of start up again.
The city of New Orleans was different from the city of Cincinnati that the two of you were used too… Joe looked over to his right and saw how you are admiring the city as you take your steps closer to the hotel.
“Are you not tired of admiring the city?” Joe asks.
“No.” you say, turning your head to look at Joe and giving him a smile. “I’ll never get tired of admiring New Orleans. It’s a beautiful city, I don’t want to leave.”
“I know you don’t want to leave Sweetheart.” he says as he lets go of your hand then grabs your waist to pull you closer to his right side. “I promise we’ll be back.”
Before you could answer, another strong cold breeze of wind sends chills and shivers down your spine. Joe decides to pull the two of you to the side of the sidewalk as other people walk by so that he could stop to give you his suit jacket because he knew how easily you can get sick when you’re in the cold weather.
“What are you doing?” you ask as you watch him out the bag on the ground so that he could start taking off his suit jacket. “Don’t take off your jacket, you need it!”
“I’ll be fine without my jacket… and we’re not far from the hotel.” he responds as he starts to help you put on the suit jacket and despite your attempts to get him to stop, when he sees you wearing his suit jack that looks big on you all he can do is give you a smile.
“You look cute!” he exclaims as he grabs the bag from off the groin and reaches out to hold your hand to start walking forward in the direction towards the hotel.
The two of you continue to walk in silence, but all around you the city of New Orleans was loud. Even though there was a world around you moving at their pace, it felt like Joe and you were in your own bubble.
As Joe keeps a tight grip on your hand as he guides you on the walk back to the hotel, because there was no way you were paying attention to where you were going as you admired the city around you.
You wished that the short trip to New Orleans wasn’t coming to an end, but you’re very grateful that Joe decided to plan the trip during the week where he should’ve been resting at home after a few long weeks of his busy schedule with the NFL.
Since the day you met Joe, he has changed your life for the better. The man walking next to you had brought so much light to your life, you don’t if there would ever be a way for you to express how much you love him.
People warned you that dating a football player in the NFL would ruin you life. All the things they said about how you’ll never be truly happy in a relationship and how you would never be a priority to Joe… All of those people were wrong because you’ve never felt so loved by someone ever in your life. This love that you feel with Joe is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you’ve never be able to feel again if your relationship ended.
Joe is so easy for you to love, it’s no surprise that you fell head over heels in love with him so quickly. When you try to imagine a life without Joe in it, It’s hard for you to imagine going through life without him in it…
“I really can’t imagine going through life without you.” you blurt out with no hesitation.
Joe stops in his steps to look at you with a confused expression on his face. “What did you say?” he asks.
“I don’t-“ you start to stutter. Your heart was pacing fast than before and your mind is in a fog as you try to remember what you had just said. You were so in your head thinking about your relationship with Joe, you didn’t realize until now you had said something out loud. “I don’t remember... What did I say out loud?”
Joe pulls you closer to him to give you a quick kiss. Since the two of you started dating, you knew that Joe was not a big fan of any public display of affection other than hold hands. So you were caught of guard that Joe was kissing you in a public space as people were passing by on the sidewalk.
When the two of you pull away from each other after the quick kiss, there’s a huge grin on Joe’s face while you’re still in shock about the public kiss… You quickly look around you to see if anyone saw the kiss but just like before, people are walking on the sidewalks of New Orleans minding their business and not caring about the two lovebirds in the middle of their path.
When you look back Joe, it makes your heart skip a beat in your chest to see the man that you love so much stand right in front of you with smile on his face and his eyes looking back at you with so much love.
“Just to let you know, I really can’t imagine going through life without you either… Now let’s get back to the hotel before this November breeze makes us sick and so I can show you how much I love you for the rest of the night before we leave New Orleans.” Joe says, grabbing your hand to continue the walk to the hotel.
As the view of the hotel was in the horizon, the two of you walked hand in hand with each other as the strong cold breeze continues to send shivers and chills down your spine even while you’re wearing Joe’s suit jacket… but you were still more focused on admiring the beautiful city of New Orleans and already planning the next trip that you hope to be a longer trip in the future.

What if one of the Villagers of Stardew Valley ate a Stardrop?
The Stardrop is able to increase the player's maximum energy, but what if one of the villagers were to receive the Stardrop instead? Perhaps it was a gift from the Farmer on the Feast of the Winter Star. Perchance it was found in the crater of a fallen star. Who knows?
Either way, the villagers of Pelican Town may not be as... equipped to handle the powers of the Stardrop as much as the Farmer is. I think that the effects could be quite disastrous. Just imagine, what if Vincent got his hands on one?
Upon scoffing it down, he's immediately charged with more energy than a bull on steroids, his limbs are twitching from the power surging through him and his brain is working overtime to keep up with his body. He's going to go fucking apeshit.
Jodi wakes up early one morning and he's just fucking climbing the walls like a demented Spiderman, hissing and screaming while holding on with his fingertips and toes. After hours of this little gremlin crawling over absolutely everything, he finally remembers how doors work and scurries out into the sunlight. Jodi, wrung out and exhausted, can't do anything about it. Finally, having a moment of silence, goes back to bed. Sam, oblivious to everything that had happened thanks to noise cancelling headphones, is inexplicably confused to find footprints on the ceiling when he walks out for breakfast.
Vincent meanwhile, is just becoming a menace to society. Later, Lewis recorded a total of 9 broken windows, 2 counts of breaking and entering, theft (does eating Evelyn's old photos count as theft?), 14 acts of vandalism and grand theft auto. He's unstoppable. Climbing from rooftop to rooftop like Santa on crack, for an entire day, the people of Pelican Town could do nothing but hide in fear while he destroyed and looted the town. The word 'booger' was scrawled on the outside of the Saloon in a suspicious liquid that looked a lot like blood. Alex's dog was spray painted pink. The toilet from the General Store was sitting in the fountain. But it was nothing compared to Joja Mart.
Joja Mart had become a warzone. Vincent had hit it, and he had hit it hard. Food was scattered everywhere. The shelves had been tipped over and thrown about. Chaos reigned supreme. Morris squatted in his little cubicle, trapped by hundreds of cans of Joja Cola. The poor employees had taken off, thankful for the break.
Eventually, however, something had to be done. Vincent had stolen Lewis's pickup and was tearing off down the potholed highway at a hundred miles an hour. It was only a matter of time before he decided the other cars were in his way and caused an incident so large it made headlines nationally. Jodi and Lewis turned to the only person who might be able to help them: the Farmer.
And so, at 11pm on a cold winter's evening, the Farmer teleported to the Calico Desert, stimmed up from a triple shot expresso and feeling nothing but simmering rage. This was their one day off for the entire freaking year and Vincent had decided that it was the perfect time to become a fallen god. Just their luck. In the distance, they could spot the headlights getting closer and closer at a scarily rapid pace. Vincent was barely awake at this point; whatever made the Stardrop so potent had token over his brain, dissolving his consciousness into a frenzied ball of childish ambition.
The Farmer pulled out a hammer of ungodly size, bristling with so much demonic energy it was literally humming with power, and in one swift motion, launched into the air, twisted their body around for maximum force and fucking pounded that shit into the bonnet of Lewis's pickup. The car went from 140 to 0 in an instant, throwing Vincent through the windshield. He was yeeted down the road like a meat-filled ragdoll, bouncing along, leaving bloody splotches every few metres. The Farmer threw them over one shoulder and hauling him like the wet sack of meat he is, teleported back to the Valley.
And so, that was how the Farmer found themselves in Rasmodius's basement at 1 in the morning, watching as an exorcism was performed on the little boy. There was lots of screaming, ritualistic chanting and levitation, but with some luck, plenty of caffeine and a little bit of divine intervention, Vincent was back to normal.
At the next Feast of the Winter Star, the Farmer got Vincent a sack of coal. Vincent asked the Farmer why, had he been bad that year? The Farmer proceeded to sock him in the head with the bag, sending him flying. It was quite reminiscent of his body flopping along the highway, and the Farmer found it quite therapeutic.

story-telling week 2024 ⁺₊✧
good evening my little babybees,
and welcome to the national story-telling week of 2024.
every day for a week we will be telling stories, so grab your favourite stuffie and snuggle in close for tonight's tale ☾.
title: when do hippos play written by: daniel errico.
By the African river, know as the Nile,
The sun fell away and it rested a while.

The rhinos had braved all the smoldering heat.
They lay down to sleep as they wiped off their feet.

The elephants marched to their elephant beds,
And gently they rested their elephant heads.

The hippos went bathing in cool, shallow pools,
Thinking the rhinos and elephants fools.

Slowly the hippos sank into the river,
The water so cold that it gave them a shiver.

(Hippos can't swim, like the pelicans think.
They also can't float- they could easily sink.)

Underwater, they fell to the soft river bed,
On darkish green plants with a smidgen of red.

They strolled on the bottom, then bounced up for air.
They did it for hours, without any care.

The fish followed closely, and wove in an out,
Under their belly, and up to their snout.

Each of the hippos came up to the shore,
To feed on the grass by the river once more.

They dried off their bodies by shaking and stomping,
And took bites of grass, chewing and chomping.

With night fading fast, they were full from the feast.
The sun returned back, rising up from the east.

The hippos crept off to collapse for the day,
While rhinos and elephants got up to play.

Enjoying the warmth of the sun and its light,
Never knowing the story of hippos at night.

national poetry month, day 7
Day Beginning with Seeing the International Space Station And a Full Moon Over the Gulf of Mexico and All Its Invisible Fishes None of this had to happen. Not Florida. Not the ibis’s beak. Not water. Not the horseshoe crab’s empty body and not the living starfish. Evolution might have turned left at the corner and gone down another street entirely. The asteroid might have missed. The seams of limestone need not have been susceptible to sand and mangroves. The radio might have found a different music. The hips of one man and the hips of another might have stood beside each other on a bus in Aleppo and recognized themselves as long- brothers. The key could have broken off in the lock and the nail-can refused its lid. I might have been the fish the brown pelican swallowed. You might have been the way the moon kept not setting long after we thought it would, long after the sun was catching inside the low wave curls coming in at a certain angle. The light might not have been eaten again by its moving. If the unbearable were not weightless we might yet buckle under the grief of what hasn’t changed yet. Across the world a man pulls a woman from the water from which the leapt-from overfilled boat has entirely vanished. From the water pulls one child, another. Both are living and both will continue to live. This did not have to happen. No part of this had to happen. —Jane Hirshfield

Listen, maybe because I love birds n OKs national bird is SO PRETTY, but bird Oklahoma, with pretty little wings, who was wild af in his early days, staying on trees n hunting while flying, just to end up tying them up to his back, in fear that people would take them away or laugh. (some AK x OK: Alaska learning about them and just admiring them because he loves birdwatching, looking softly how they move around, just to be caught by OK who doesn't know if he should be embarrassed or mad and just decides to do NY route and act like he didn't notice shit)
OK who, because of his "annoying and unhuman" nature as a young state would get hunted down like a rabbit, just to stay in the same place as his politicians, who could only hate him. (TX x OK: Texas jokingly asking him what duel he lost to get that specific bullet wound that left a scar and getting an answer like "oh no, it was when I flew up in the air n my 2th politician shot me, so I couldn't leave his house" and him going to Gov to ask if he's not fucking lying to him, because Gov's work was always protect the states and make sure they r doing their work)
South States being dirty in not sweat, but dirt under the nails way, only because they were living their whole life loving earth, just for others to make them love people. (at least TX compered to OK bc OK was way more about the land than TX, who was way more about people, just like CA)
OKs wings getting dirty and out of his reach, so he goes to Louisiana who also has a beautiful pair of pelican wings, his nails sharp yet delicate, brushing his feathers and making sure they are where they should be.
Also, some Florida x Louisiana (Winged Louie x Merman Florida AU):
LA after fighting with what felt like the whole world, flying away, just to stay somewhere in the middle of the sea, stomach aching from worry about what his people will be going trough, when Florida who loves him and knows him well, swims there.
He stays just with his head above the water, his tail doing all the work when after some time, Louisiana finally goes down, now being held in the arms of his best friend, his wings wet and tired, his voice rough from talking without any water for hours.
And he slowly swims back to land with his warm body in his arms and Louisiana probably sleeping silently. Because both of them are horrible with feelings.

2024 Golden Globes
Hello!! I watched the Golden Globes tonight and like many others was underwhelmed and off-put by the monologue at the top of the show. Bored and reading too many Buzzfeed "Best Dressed" and "Check Out These Awkward Moments" posts after, I decided to take a sorry stab at a shortened, substitute monologue. I'm no comedy writer, but consider it award-show alternate universe fan fic. Enjoy :)
---------
Tumblr media
Welcome to the Golden Globes!!!
The Golden Globes of course are a unique time where television and film combine for a night of joint celebration. Which differs from our more categorial counterparts in the Oscars for film and the Emmys for TV. And so for those of you looking to claim a Globe tonight for either medium, please know this does not make you one step closer to the EGOT. Okay? That G is for Grammy. Leave that to Taylor Swift & Billie Eilish. (Hi Taylor *smooch*. Billie *wink*.)
Tonight the Golden Globes competes with the likes of the final games of the regular season of the American National Football League. Thank God we’re only competing for ratings and not actually competing. Although these folks may portray the occasional superhero or athlete on screen, these are a bunch of theatre and improv kids, okay? Wouldn’t be pretty.
We also have a couple new awards this year. We have one for stand-up comedy. You’ll notice no current late-night show hosts are nominated in that category. That’s because they perform 80% of their comedy sitting down. Doesn’t qualify. Not a high enough threshold.
Another new award is for cinematic and box office success. Because if there’s one thing those nominees need more than all of the money they made at the box office is the acknowledgement of all of the money they made at the box office. In the form of solid gold handed to them on a glittering stage.
Amongst that gold, true Hollywood Royalty is here. We have Emma Stone. Margot Robbie. Oprah Winfrey. All people that exude the confidence and message and grace of Barbie. But perhaps not quite that of Poor Thing's.
The content nominated tonight really is magnificent. Killers of the Flower Moon is nominated tonight. Or what women used to be called in the olden days before menstrual cycles were truly understood.
The cast of Oppenheimer is here tonight. Oppenheimer has one of the most star-studded ensemble casts I’ve ever seen...From Matt Damon to Cilian Murphy to RDJ..It’s the stuff Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve dreams are made of. (Sorry Bradley Cooper.. Robert De Niro..)
Saltburn made it in under the wire for a nomination for the outstanding Barry Keoghan. Barry, somehow I was more comfortable when you portrayed a deranged joker at the end of The Batman than I was when I saw you in a mere bathtub.
Speaking Batman, William Dafoe is here tonight. He’s one of a select few nominees who have multiple projects up for awards tonight. William, of course, voiced the Noble Pelican in the English dubbed version of The Boy and the Heron. And yet Batman himself, Robert Pattison, was actually the voice of the eponymous heron and not William, which, if you’ve seen the film, I mean believe me you’d understand why I’m mentioning that tonight. Truly a shocking non-plot-related twist for us viewers.
And, finally, you know what, forgive me for the delay folks, Happy New Year! Welcome to 2024. It’s a big year. Big year for our industry following what our incredible writers and actors advocated for last year...Big year for world events too. Leap Year. The Olympics. The Election. Because at the end of the day, can’t we all agree that Paris & [insert US politician’s name here] don’t get enough attention as it is?…

December 3rd: San Francisco, where Verne really has it for Americans
(warning for the N word)
on the 3rd of December, the “General Grant” entered the bay of the Golden Gate, and reached San Francisco.
Mr. Fogg had neither gained nor lost a single day.
It was seven in the morning when Mr. Fogg, Aouda, and Passepartout set foot upon the American continent, if this name can be given to the floating quay upon which they disembarked. These quays, rising and falling with the tide, thus facilitate the loading and unloading of vessels. Alongside them were clippers of all sizes, steamers of all nationalities, and the steamboats, with several decks rising one above the other, which ply on the Sacramento and its tributaries. There were also heaped up the products of a commerce which extends to Mexico, Chili, Peru, Brazil, Europe, Asia, and all the Pacific islands.
Passepartout, in his joy on reaching at last the American continent, thought he would manifest it by executing a perilous vault in fine style; but, tumbling upon some worm-eaten planks, he fell through them. Put out of countenance by the manner in which he thus “set foot” upon the New World, he uttered a loud cry, which so frightened the innumerable cormorants and pelicans that are always perched upon these movable quays, that they flew noisily away.
Mr. Fogg, on reaching shore, proceeded to find out at what hour the first train left for New York, and learned that this was at six o’clock p.m.; he had, therefore, an entire day to spend in the Californian capital. Taking a carriage at a charge of three dollars, he and Aouda entered it, while Passepartout mounted the box beside the driver, and they set out for the International Hotel.
From his exalted position Passepartout observed with much curiosity the wide streets, the low, evenly ranged houses, the Anglo-Saxon Gothic churches, the great docks, the palatial wooden and brick warehouses, the numerous conveyances, omnibuses, horse-cars, and upon the side-walks, not only Americans and Europeans, but Chinese and Indians. Passepartout was surprised at all he saw. San Francisco was no longer the legendary city of 1849—a city of banditti, assassins, and incendiaries, who had flocked hither in crowds in pursuit of plunder; a paradise of outlaws, where they gambled with gold-dust, a revolver in one hand and a bowie-knife in the other: it was now a great commercial emporium.
The lofty tower of its City Hall overlooked the whole panorama of the streets and avenues, which cut each other at right-angles, and in the midst of which appeared pleasant, verdant squares, while beyond appeared the Chinese quarter, seemingly imported from the Celestial Empire in a toy-box. Sombreros and red shirts and plumed Indians were rarely to be seen; but there were silk hats and black coats everywhere worn by a multitude of nervously active, gentlemanly-looking men. Some of the streets—especially Montgomery Street, which is to San Francisco what Regent Street is to London, the Boulevard des Italiens to Paris, and Broadway to New York—were lined with splendid and spacious stores, which exposed in their windows the products of the entire world.
When Passepartout reached the International Hotel, it did not seem to him as if he had left England at all.
The ground floor of the hotel was occupied by a large bar, a sort of restaurant freely open to all passers-by, who might partake of dried beef, oyster soup, biscuits, and cheese, without taking out their purses. Payment was made only for the ale, porter, or sherry which was drunk. This seemed “very American” to Passepartout. The hotel refreshment-rooms were comfortable, and Mr. Fogg and Aouda, installing themselves at a table, were abundantly served on diminutive plates by negroes of darkest hue.
After breakfast, Mr. Fogg, accompanied by Aouda, started for the English consulate to have his passport visaed. As he was going out, he met Passepartout, who asked him if it would not be well, before taking the train, to purchase some dozens of Enfield rifles and Colt’s revolvers. He had been listening to stories of attacks upon the trains by the Sioux and Pawnees. Mr. Fogg thought it a useless precaution, but told him to do as he thought best, and went on to the consulate.
He had not proceeded two hundred steps, however, when, “by the greatest chance in the world,” he met Fix. The detective seemed wholly taken by surprise. What! Had Mr. Fogg and himself crossed the Pacific together, and not met on the steamer! At least Fix felt honoured to behold once more the gentleman to whom he owed so much, and, as his business recalled him to Europe, he should be delighted to continue the journey in such pleasant company.
Mr. Fogg replied that the honour would be his; and the detective—who was determined not to lose sight of him—begged permission to accompany them in their walk about San Francisco—a request which Mr. Fogg readily granted.
They soon found themselves in Montgomery Street, where a great crowd was collected; the side-walks, street, horsecar rails, the shop-doors, the windows of the houses, and even the roofs, were full of people. Men were going about carrying large posters, and flags and streamers were floating in the wind; while loud cries were heard on every hand.
“Hurrah for Camerfield!”
“Hurrah for Mandiboy!”
It was a political meeting; at least so Fix conjectured, who said to Mr. Fogg, “Perhaps we had better not mingle with the crowd. There may be danger in it.”
“Yes,” returned Mr. Fogg; “and blows, even if they are political, are still blows.”
Fix smiled at this remark; and, in order to be able to see without being jostled about, the party took up a position on the top of a flight of steps situated at the upper end of Montgomery Street. Opposite them, on the other side of the street, between a coal wharf and a petroleum warehouse, a large platform had been erected in the open air, towards which the current of the crowd seemed to be directed.
For what purpose was this meeting? What was the occasion of this excited assemblage? Phileas Fogg could not imagine. Was it to nominate some high official—a governor or member of Congress? It was not improbable, so agitated was the multitude before them.
Just at this moment there was an unusual stir in the human mass. All the hands were raised in the air. Some, tightly closed, seemed to disappear suddenly in the midst of the cries—an energetic way, no doubt, of casting a vote. The crowd swayed back, the banners and flags wavered, disappeared an instant, then reappeared in tatters. The undulations of the human surge reached the steps, while all the heads floundered on the surface like a sea agitated by a squall. Many of the black hats disappeared, and the greater part of the crowd seemed to have diminished in height.
“It is evidently a meeting,” said Fix, “and its object must be an exciting one. I should not wonder if it were about the ‘Alabama,’ despite the fact that that question is settled.”
“Perhaps,” replied Mr. Fogg, simply.
“At least, there are two champions in presence of each other, the Honourable Mr. Camerfield and the Honourable Mr. Mandiboy.”
Aouda, leaning upon Mr. Fogg’s arm, observed the tumultuous scene with surprise, while Fix asked a man near him what the cause of it all was. Before the man could reply, a fresh agitation arose; hurrahs and excited shouts were heard; the staffs of the banners began to be used as offensive weapons; and fists flew about in every direction. Thumps were exchanged from the tops of the carriages and omnibuses which had been blocked up in the crowd. Boots and shoes went whirling through the air, and Mr. Fogg thought he even heard the crack of revolvers mingling in the din, the rout approached the stairway, and flowed over the lower step. One of the parties had evidently been repulsed; but the mere lookers-on could not tell whether Mandiboy or Camerfield had gained the upper hand.
“It would be prudent for us to retire,” said Fix, who was anxious that Mr. Fogg should not receive any injury, at least until they got back to London. “If there is any question about England in all this, and we were recognised, I fear it would go hard with us.”
“An English subject—” began Mr. Fogg.
He did not finish his sentence; for a terrific hubbub now arose on the terrace behind the flight of steps where they stood, and there were frantic shouts of, “Hurrah for Mandiboy! Hip, hip, hurrah!”
It was a band of voters coming to the rescue of their allies, and taking the Camerfield forces in flank. Mr. Fogg, Aouda, and Fix found themselves between two fires; it was too late to escape. The torrent of men, armed with loaded canes and sticks, was irresistible. Phileas Fogg and Fix were roughly hustled in their attempts to protect their fair companion; the former, as cool as ever, tried to defend himself with the weapons which nature has placed at the end of every Englishman’s arm, but in vain. A big brawny fellow with a red beard, flushed face, and broad shoulders, who seemed to be the chief of the band, raised his clenched fist to strike Mr. Fogg, whom he would have given a crushing blow, had not Fix rushed in and received it in his stead. An enormous bruise immediately made its appearance under the detective’s silk hat, which was completely smashed in.
“Yankee!” exclaimed Mr. Fogg, darting a contemptuous look at the ruffian.
“Englishman!” returned the other. “We will meet again!”
“When you please.”
“What is your name?”
“Phileas Fogg. And yours?”
“Colonel Stamp Proctor.”
The human tide now swept by, after overturning Fix, who speedily got upon his feet again, though with tattered clothes. Happily, he was not seriously hurt. His travelling overcoat was divided into two unequal parts, and his trousers resembled those of certain Indians, which fit less compactly than they are easy to put on. Aouda had escaped unharmed, and Fix alone bore marks of the fray in his black and blue bruise.
“Thanks,” said Mr. Fogg to the detective, as soon as they were out of the crowd.
“No thanks are necessary,” replied Fix; “but let us go.”
“Where?”
“To a tailor’s.”
Such a visit was, indeed, opportune. The clothing of both Mr. Fogg and Fix was in rags, as if they had themselves been actively engaged in the contest between Camerfield and Mandiboy. An hour after, they were once more suitably attired, and with Aouda returned to the International Hotel.
Passepartout was waiting for his master, armed with half a dozen six-barrelled revolvers. When he perceived Fix, he knit his brows; but Aouda having, in a few words, told him of their adventure, his countenance resumed its placid expression. Fix evidently was no longer an enemy, but an ally; he was faithfully keeping his word.
Dinner over, the coach which was to convey the passengers and their luggage to the station drew up to the door. As he was getting in, Mr. Fogg said to Fix, “You have not seen this Colonel Proctor again?”
“No.”
“I will come back to America to find him,” said Phileas Fogg calmly. “It would not be right for an Englishman to permit himself to be treated in that way, without retaliating.”
The detective smiled, but did not reply. It was clear that Mr. Fogg was one of those Englishmen who, while they do not tolerate duelling at home, fight abroad when their honour is attacked.
At a quarter before six the travellers reached the station, and found the train ready to depart. As he was about to enter it, Mr. Fogg called a porter, and said to him: “My friend, was there not some trouble to-day in San Francisco?”
“It was a political meeting, sir,” replied the porter.
“But I thought there was a great deal of disturbance in the streets.”
“It was only a meeting assembled for an election.”
“The election of a general-in-chief, no doubt?” asked Mr. Fogg.
“No, sir; of a justice of the peace.”
Phileas Fogg got into the train, which started off at full speed.

Good morning. ☀️

I wonder do introverts get lonely, I don't, and I admit I'm a bit introverted. But I'm never really alone. I pretty much enjoy solitude.
"Good morning, Mister Sunshine You brighten up my day. Come sit beside me, in your way."
- Bee Gees, Lonely Days
“Let me tell you this: if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it's not because they enjoy solitude. It's because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them.” - Jodi Picoult, My Sister's Keeper
This morning's photograph is of four brown pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis) flying from right to left in a blue sky with light clouds. Thye pelicans themselves are mostly silhouetted against the clouds.
"Brown pelicans are large birds with gray-brown bodies, yellow heads, white necks, and long bills with pouches. They hunt fish by plunging into the sea from high altitudes and are the only pelican species that does so. They nest in colonies on islands or vegetated areas and lay two or three white eggs5. They are very social and often gather in flocks. They can live up to 40 years. They are the national or state bird of several places in the Caribbean and North America" - bing.com

World Animal Day
World Animal Day is an annual celebration observed on October 4th of each year. The commemoration of the day is to raise the status of animals and to improve their welfare standards from around the globe. It is an international day for the animal rights and welfare. World Animal Day remembers and pays tribute to all animals and the people who love, care and respect them.
“If we’re destroying our trees and destroying our environment and hurting animals and hurting one another and all that stuff, there’s got to be a very powerful energy to fight that. I think we need more love in the world. We need more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter. I definitely want to contribute to that.” – Ellen DeGeneres
History of World Animal Day
Heinrich Zimmermann first celebrated World Animal Day in the year 1931. The celebration of the day remembers the important role played by the animals in the world and the people who dedicate their lives solely to work for protecting and caring for those animals. The mission of the World Animal Day is to raise the status of animals. It also focuses on improving their welfare standards globally. The celebration the day make the world a better place for all animals by uniting the animal welfare movement and mobilizing it into a global force. Irrespective of nationality, religion, faith or political ideology, World Animal Day is celebrated in different ways in every country.
With the increased awareness and education we can create the world where animals will be accepted as sentient beings. They will be regarded and given welfare. The World Animal Day focuses on drawing attention to the protecting natural habitats, endangered species, and supporting the animal welfare. The history of the World Animal Day date back to 1925. Heinrich Zimmermann, the German writer, and publisher of the magazine Mensch und Hund/Man and Dog originated the day. On March 24, 1925, he had organized the first World Animal Day at the Sports Palace in Berlin, Germany.
The event was originally scheduled on 4th October. It was the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology. But the venue was not available on that day and was held at Sports Palace. More than 5,000 people had attended this first event. For the first time in 1929, the event was moved to 4th October. Initially, Heinrich Zimmermann found a following only in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Czechoslovakia. The tireless work of Zimmermann each year made the promotion of World Animal Day. Finally, his proposal to make 4th October as the World Animal Day universal was unanimously accepted. It was adopted as a resolution on May 1931 at a congress of the International Animal Protection Congress in Florence Italy.
How to Celebrate World Animal Day
Celebrating World Animal Day can be done in many unusual ways. Indulge yourself in protecting and saving the animals. Bring awareness to the people about how to protect animals. Eat vegetarian foods and don’t buy products made from animals and tested on animals.

Hello there fellow bug! I was wondering what sorts of sources, historical periods, techniques etc. you draw on for inspiration for your art? I'm completely captivated with your style, especially the more Medieval-esque pieces and was curious to know more! Have a nice day! :D
i hadn't really considered what styles/artists inspire me so this was a bit more challenging to answer than i thought it would be!
ive always been really drawn to inuit art (there is a local museum with a permanent inuit artist exhibit that i really love), medieval european art (especially mosaic), and cave art. i think what im most drawn to in all of these is the unique 2 dimensional poses/shapes used to convey nature in limited space, as well as the focus on ornate patterns where they may not actually be in the subject!! woodblock prints, linocut prints, and tapestries/carpets in general have also been very inspiring to me stylistically, and my #1 favorite subjects are always invertebrates, birds, and biology

IMPORTANT  /  BACKGROUND
TW: death of parents.
yoon ahna was born on a cold night in december to a middle class family. she was the only child of dae-min and sooyoung and the apple of their eye. she grew up living in her birthplace of pelican town, running around without a care in the world. life was easy. her parents ran a busy restaurant that gave them a steady income, even extra money during the summer months when the area was loaded with tourists and they had a home that was warm and welcoming to all.
ahna was always well liked. she was even considered popular in school, her free spirt and kind heart attracting people to her like moths to a flame. she was a social butterfly, spending more time in class talking to those around her than actually paying attention to the lesson and doodling in all her notebooks. she did just well enough in her studies to make it to graduation. however, she was involved in every other aspect of school life that wasn’t her studies. she was on the student council, a cheerleader, prom queen, dance committee, and even acted in theatre productions. when she wasn’t in school she could be found down on the beach, dancing in the waves, riding her convertible down the highway with the music on full blast and the sound of her laugher always echoed in her wake. ahna was a source of light.
though, she wasn’t perfect. ahna was always forgetting her curfew, she lost almost everything and you couldn’t rely on her for much. she had the best of intentions at all times but her head was very much in the clouds. she was a daydreamer and would have lost her own head if it wasn’t attached. her carefree attitude was as much of a nuisance as it was an asset. she was so free-spirited that it often appeared she didn’t truly care about anything or anyone. you wanted to be around her but you could never really know her and she never really took the time to know anyone else, everything was at a superficial level.
after graduation, she managed to get into college only a few towns over. this was huge for the yoon family who never really ventured far from their hometown. ahna had decided to study cosmetology. she was to become a make-up artist and hair dresser. it was something she was already somewhat confident with and knew it would be a successful career path. she was good at talking to people and loved the idea of making other’s feel as beautiful on the outside as they were on the inside. not to mention, everyone always talked about how she would be the perfect fit to go off and work in los angeles. it would be a dream to be on movie sets or tours, working for the stars she adored.
however, she was less than a year into her program when tragedy struck. ahna’s parents were in a head-on collision, driving to surprise her with a visit. both died on impact and the young yoon’s whole world was turned upside down. she immediately pulled out of school to return to her hometown. she found comfort in being surrounded by the community who had helped raise her and those who knew her parents as well as she did, if not better.
the first year, it was like she was walking around in a fog. she has very few memories after packing up and leaving school and packing up her childhood home and parents belongings. that first year she was far from the same girl that had left stardew valley. she had lost her spark. which was understandable. but the bright star who was off to work for the stars of hollywood was gone. she was a drifter, no plan, no job, couch surfing and having no intentions of moving forward.
though, after time it got easier and she started to find herself again. it was a slow process but being in her hometown was certainly helpful, having people to rally around her and support her no matter what. it started when she was offered a job at the cafe to keep her busy, then when she was sold a small beachside cottage at a very discounted price to make her home, then finally she would find herself smiling and laughing -- breathing made easier. it took time but ahna’s community became her family.
now, ahna can be found cheerily chatting with locals and guests as she serves them coffee. she is bubbly and still a little scatterbrained, she’s the life of the party and very reminiscent of the girl she was in high school -- but with a sadness that never fully goes away. sometimes she’ll disappear for a day or two, only to show up again like nothing happened. she never tells anyone when she’s leaving or why, she just goes.

Labor unions amuse me. I don't know why. Maybe because we technically are in an adversarial relationship, but I'm in an even worse relationship with my fellow companies. Alas, hated all around. The fate of being beautiful and intelligent and stellar as me φ(。。*).
So American Labor Law is a wonderful fun mess to navigate. But they did get one thing right, and it's preventing companies from making their own internal unions: company unions / "yellow" unions. The company union in theory is supposed to do the job of independent trade unions, but since they are managed and paid by the company, it's obvious they won't do anything that would severely harm the company's profits or image. They rarely strike, undercut other unions in terms of wage, and will rarely countermand a company's unjust ruling. Not the type of union you want on your side if you are a worker.
There are proponents of company unions, stating that it gets worker grievances addressed faster and they have a closer relationship with the company and thus are able to contextualize things better. But in my opinion, the company union will always protect the company first. Much like trickle-down economics, company unions being for the worker are a lie.
Section 8(2)(a) of the National Labor Relations Act does not allow an employer "to dominate or interfere with the formation or administration of any labor organization or contribute financial or other support to it." This forces unions to be independent trade unions in the States and technically prevents companies from influencing union affairs. Unfortunately, this also means I can't directly donate money or provides goods to a union to help support a strike.
But I own grocery stores and stationary stores in a good number of places. If my stores so happen to be selling products at cost that day... let's see February 22nd was the last time I did it - for National Walking the Dog Day while a strike is happening, that isn't really collusion, is it. :)
There's already a handful of Unions that have been made in several of my divisions. Given I haven't received a list of demands from them, I'm assuming this is more preventative - like if I decide to become another gluttony-obsessed pelican or something. Still irks me a little though, but I keep reminding myself that people don't live to work, they work to live.
Regardless, my competitors hate me because I pay well above industry standard and provide very good benefits. And their workers see it and either come over to me since they're tired of living paycheck to paycheck - or unionize to fight for better pay and benefits. My competitors can't undercut me as easily as a mom-n-pop shop because I control everything from the transportation to the farms to the production line; and when they are trying to resist a strike, I'll actually undercut their undercut anyway lol.
They either shape up - or leave and I buy their land using a shell company later. I almost always find room for the displaced workers. Eventually, these people are going to realize that shutting down because a union is forming/has formed (which is illegal by the way, but hard to directly prove) just benefits me in the end lol.
Anyway, happy National 529 Day.
