kagakuro canon?

okay, this post will be a compilation of evidence and arguments on why i actually think kagami and kuroko is a canon pair.

disclaimer: they're not even my fav ship (it's midotaka), i'm really doing this cause i can't stop thinking about how canon it seems... (and cause it's fun)

right, so...let's start with the basics, shall we?

their relationship

well, i haven't watched many sports animes but kuroko no basket follows a classic plot that we all know:

two main protagonists that don't know each other enter a random and medium team, both with a goal. one is a prodigy and the other one is really bad at first sight but when combined with someone else they really show their potential.

yeah and in the end that "someone else" is mainly the other one, obviously. they always have that "we complete each other" talk and that's the whole plot.

we can see that in haikyuu, yes (and i've only watched a season and a half by pure pressure), but in knb we see that too.

kagami's the prodigy and kuroko is the "weak" one, their goal is to play against all of the members of the generation of miracles and win. they can only do that together, that's the start of everything!

in knb's case the plot is much more interesting than that, but it is still what the anime revolves around.

them being together is what makes them strong. they need each other to get in their best forms and they will stay together. kagami's the light and kuroko's the shadow. they're complementary.

i'm sorry, but that's a gay plot. - really, i've only watched sports animes with a canonically gay main characters, like sk8 the infinity and yuri! on ice, or with this fking sus idea that is litteraly the plot of the anime (i WILL say that it's even gayer than the gay ones. IT'S THE MAIN IDEA).

but that's only what i think, right? so let's proceed to actual arguments and evidence.

first things first...

them and the girls.

kuroko and kagami both show little to no interest in any girl in the anime, while all of the other seirin members and a lot of other characters do constantly.

momoi for example;

she's in love with kuroko and makes it pretty clear. on the other side, he also makes his disinterest clear, still treating her well cause he's a decent person, of course, but always letting her know he doesn't like her back.

in kagami's case, while every other seirin guy totally drools over her - even junpei, who has shown to have feelings towards riko - he almost ignores her existence. moreover, he's even judged by the others for 'not knowing how to treat girls' in one of their few interactions.

and you could say it's like aomine; momoi's even his type but he just doesn't like her. it's a normal thing. they care for each other and see one another like brothers, there's no romantic feelings. kagami and kuroko could just be the same towards her.

but that's why i have more arguments, obviously.

before that tho, there's alex too. there's nothing much to say since anyone would be uncomfortable in being kissed out of nowhere by someone in their 30s especially when youre a minor. and kagami does, even tho he's already used to it.

i just think it's weird for the author to make this much fan service towards her, making her be naked around his house and stuff, and make him, the main 'victim' of that fanservice inside the anime, be uncomfortable (even riko blushed when she kissed her).

we all know that it's not only "how americans are seen in japan", it's pure fanservice. it's already problematic. he isn't trying to make it less problematic by making kagami uncomfortable, that's just how kagami is.

the character's bible.

now we're starting to get somewhere.

for those who don't know, kuroko no basuke characte's bible is a book that contains canon data about the characters. we also have some interviews, with diferent questions that are answered by the characters.

one of those questions is what their types of girl is...

kuroko: gentle people

kagami: stable gir……person……

kise: a girl who won't tie him down

midorima: older

aomine: girls with big bust

murasakibara: tall girl (if taller than me, then forget it)

the only ones that dont especify gender, even tho asked for type of > girl < it's kuroko and kagami.

you may think midorima is included but actually not (still have my own headcanon ofc but)...

think of it like asking someone for their favorite type of fruit. "sour" is an ok anwer, you don't need to specify saying "sour fruit". but answering you like "sour food" instead it's another thing, it's weird... like you purposely said it to indirectly say you don't like fruit or you simply like all types of sour food.

it was a weid example but y'all understand my point, right?

it's even more weird since kagami was going to say girl, but hesitated. like...why? why would he hesitate and then change it to "person" for no fking reason? sorry, it's too sus for me.

ok. then there's the relationship pages. kuroko and kagami's (obviously) to be more specific.

kuroko's:

aomine: old partner

kagami: current partner

momoi: girlfriend?

kise: friend

murasakibara: friend?

midorima: this person is difficult to deal with.

kagami's:

himuro: brotherlike

kuroko: partner

midorima: he annoys me

aomine: i’ll get revenge

kise: 「kagami-chi」 !?

okay, this doesn't prove anything by itself, and as is writen "old partner" (wow i cried) in aomine on kuroko's one we know that this means partner as in basket of course.

also! don't mind the "girlfriend?" in momoi, she refers herself as kuroko's girlfriend (that's why it's there and with a question mark) but that's all. it's canon that he doesn't like her, like i said, and they don't end up together. (ofc it's okay if you ship them duh- i'm literally doing a whole blog on kagakuro, i'm not the one to judge)

i just think it's a great addition, i couldn't leave it out of here and it's also SO cute even platonicly, c'mon.

and it also adds to the idea that they "complete each other" as in the sports anime plot.

kagami: i spend most of my time with kuroko

kise: kasamatsu, but he kicks me

midorima: takao, but he's my servant

okay, we've seen a lot of stuff now, but let's go to the thing that actually made me wanna do this post...

i was rewatching knb normaly until this happened:

translation: "i know one! they're so cute as a couple."

at first, i just laughed and imediatly took this picture to show my friends how canon they are (as a joke at the time). i was using my computer to watch and for some reason i can't connect my netflix account on it, so i was watching in a pirated website.

in this types of site, the subtitles are often translated by fans and since they are made by non profecionals, they always have a lot of mistranslations and typos. some fans like to purposely chance the translations too to make it more funny in some situations.

so after a while i figured i HAD to know if it was real cause i didn't remember to have seen this at the first time i watched.

i even took notes of what episode that was to check later in my tv's netflix, in both my language and english subtitles... but i am impatient so i did my research.

yeah, the translation is not exactly the same, but just look at this, seriously. at least we can say izuki ships them, lol. that's more than something, right?

i'll still check the subtitles and the dubs when i can just to know what it's said there, but yeah...just...look.

also, there’s this scene in the middle of the seirin x yosen game where kagami says to kuroko: “besides, between my past with tatsuya and my future with you, it’s obvious which is more important” AND IT’S SO CUTE this scene lives in my mind rent free i love them so much even platonically-

anyone still remembers this used to be sims blog?

i do, after like a year since last sims related post (lol) so i decided to build something, that something became a kuroko inspired apartment in san myshuno.

a small apartment in the heart of lively fashion district is a perfect fit for a man and his puppy (fun challenge: count the toys number 2 has hidden around the place!)

this one bedroom apartment has a spacious living space with an open renovated kitchen with newest appliances all the way from the north!

the bathroom is... clean, it's nothing special. let's move on to more interesting things, shall we?

kuroko has already made this place a home and we could not be more proud!

oh the basketball? there are many oh them, which one? the one on the wall? i see.. i was told that things on the wall display under the sconce were gifted to kuroko by his friend from america. there's a reason why such bright red cap is on a display in a room without much red. i think the same friend also left an umbrella when he stayed here last time.

If there are no questions, i'd like us to move on to the bedroom, the views outside are impeccable i'm going to tell you all about it- there are still questions :/ the photos? just few photos kuroko took with his friends during a high school championships. such personal details in the houses always makes me happy

now shall we-- you want me to zoom in on my clients' personal photos? yeah, sure! too bad due to technical difficulties only one survived (i know there's inaccuracies and mixed up jersey numbers, this one photo took me over an hour to get, between sims being sims and game crashing more than once. after noticing too late i was not going to do that all over again for a prop, i'm sorry. let's say kuroko and kagami mixed theirs up and after the photo was taken, everyone had a great laugh, okay?)

at last, the bedroom! the room isn't big so an open closet situations was the best decision. it leave so much more walking space and a puppy can go wild. kuroko went for a double bed, and a string light canopy as the main light source for the room, which isn't always necessary as the floor to ceiling windows let more than enough light from a vibrant city, both during the day time AND night time! the painting looks good too!!

the photo on the bedside table? yup, that's kuroko's friend from america! glad to say i can show the full size photo!

if you made it this far, i appreciate it so much lmao. miss building a lot, so this was very fun, tired to build a huge house for a few knb characters but after struggling for a bit, i was harshly reminded that i cant build big houses, not even modern. but the joy of looking into what could signal to others that this is apartment that belong to kuroko in a way that i see it was really fun. like finding the sims, finding the outfits, finding the pose as im still not equip to do 3d models. then putting this all together and nearly rage quitting due to game crashing. but that's why we love this game, right? right??

maybe someday ill get to revisit this build and fix the already mention and not mentioned details, but for a first proper post in a while, I don't hate it and that's a huge progress <3

also, in my last story&build post i was complaining about not being able to paint ceilings and now we can! maybe when i post next, there will be more hair color options? nah, im hoping for too much, aren't i.

Old art #14: KnB OCs

Specifically the girls!

Because I just reblogged a post about how unappreciated female characters can be, and it made me mad. The second I started writing my massive KnB fic I was like oh lord does this story need more significant female characters. And my story is slice of life and about so much more than basketball, so there's no excuse for the lack of girls like "unfortunately that's just how it is" like Fujimaki said or something.

I'm not undermining the fact that Riko and Momoi especially are great characters, and I'm so happy for their existence, I'm just pointing out how obvious it was to me that as a fic writer I could do so much more! And that if I had found myself for some reason creating only male OCs for this project, the only reason I could think of for why that would happen is misogyny. (Not that the gender diversity in my fic is limited to male and female, I'm just trying to simplify things for the sake of an argument.)

Now that I'm thinking about this in the light of that other post that pointed out how people make excuses for why they don't have any favourite female characters or even female OCs, it occurred to me that had those people been writing this love story between the two main guys they probably would have used that as an excuse? Like, oh well, this story is just basically about them, so it's what it is. I mean, my story is about KagaKuro. Like 90%.

Somehow, that wasn't an issue.

Sorry for the rant. I'll introduce you to some of my girls now, whose pictures I've posted before, but I'll tell a little bit more about them this time.

Meet Mitsuhara Tomie! She came along early, and isn't getting out of this. She's a theatre nerd, a playwright, and an actress whose drama club causes fun times for Seirin's basketball club too. Her life collided with our main characters' because her friend had a crush on Kagami and was using Tomie as a reluctant messenger. Pretty obviously, no romance bloomed between her friend and Kagami, but as a side effect, Tomie became friends with Kuroko. She's gay, she's very intense and kinda socially anxious, she has very distinct life philosophies, and she has described herself as "the ball of hair the Cheshire Cat pukes". She's short, pear-shaped, very flexible and loves her big glasses. At one point, Kuroko describes her style of discussing controversial topics in her plays to be as subtle as Kagami's Meteor Jam, to which Kagami says it must be really to the point, then.

The reason she came into existence was because I felt like it would be nice if Kuroko had a friend who gets stories on a deep level, a non-basketball friend for a change, and especially a female friend who isn't forcing herself on him from left and right. Pretty soon Tomie bloomed into a character I would not know how to tell this story without anymore.

Next we have Kirigaya Azumi who is a joint effort between me and my ex. She is Rakuzan's manager during our main characters' second year, so she isn't very frequently involved in my main story, as she's much more significant to my still in-progress and unpublished Akashi centric fic. Momoi describes Azumi from her notes as follows:

"Kirigaya Azumi, age 17, height 166 cm, used to play small forward in middle school. Also has a background in traditional and street dance, plays the piano and koto, and is apparently an unbeatable archer. She lives at her family shrine, and is supposed to be the successor, which explains some of her wide repertoire of skills. She believes things are interesting as long as you haven’t achieved your personal best. Old money from her father’s side, new money from her mother’s. Her brother is a professional basketball player in the US. She secretly dyes her hair with a hint of reddish purple, and gets away with it, because everyone believes it to be natural. She’s childhood friends with Mibuchi Reo. I assume that’s related to how she became the manager, although I haven’t got the details on that, and there’s a gap in my knowledge of her motives too. She’s not the usual manager type."

Basically, the idea behind Azumi's character was a big fuck you to people who call female characters Mary Sues for simply being on par with a male character. So, in this world of ridiculous guys we needed more ridiculous girls, and especially on the occasion that one might turn out to catch Akashi's interest in several ways, she would have to be in his league. We had seen so many takes on Akashi's OC girlfriend who was shy or poor or otherwise exactly the type of character to buy into the whole "school prince" narrative, which obviously isn't wrong, but we didn't want that. We wanted someone who could be an obvious power couple with him. We felt he needed someone who would not trigger him into feeling like he needs to control things and take care of everything. We didn't feel like Akashi actually fits into the trope of "soft girl makes cold boy open up" because Akashi isn't really like that. We felt he needed someone more traditionally strong and independent, someone who can make him relax. Azumi has her own issues of course, but she's chill, confident and in the "feline club" so other characters tend to perceive her as someone not to be messed with.

Sato Mika is Seirin's manager during the main characters' third year, when Riko is in university but has still decided to go on as Seirin's coach, and she can no longer deny the need of a couple of extra hands. Thankfully, Mika is also someone to match her brain and becomes practically an assistant coach. She has a photographic memory, which turns out to be particularly handy in helping people develop faster because she can always point out the smallest differences in people's forms and movements off the top of her head. She is one half of Sato twins and her brother also joins the team. They are also both Finnish-Japanese and have lived most of their lives in Finland because my brain needed some Finns. They are both third years who transferred to Seirin because of some problems in their old school.

So, I’m the new manager, though it seems we’re still kinda working on my job description. My unnecessarily long nickname as a kid was “picture encyclopaedia”, but I’d totally prefer to be conceptualized as a search engine because I’m SO much faster than some physical book. Okay, I’ll stop before Aki says I’m bragging. Anyway, I’m not totally clueless about basketball, because I grew up with him, obviously. Hmm. So, we came from the dark cold north, and I think the best thing about Japan so far is the rice. I really love rice and it's so much better here. What else? I like Marvel and Nightwish.

So, nice to meet you. Please, ask me anything, and my brain will come up with a selection of visuals related to that thing.

Mika is very introspective, fun-loving and has some issues with a fear of commitment, but what better place to work on that, than Seirin, right?

I have more female OCs, but these three are the most significant ones so far, except for Kuroko's grandmother who is an OC for all intents and purposes, because she isn't actually a character in canon. I haven't drawn her because the task seems very daunting. She is too much to capture with my drawing skills and there are still, even after writing a million word fic, so many things even I don't know about her.

Here are a couple of characters' opinions of her.

Momoi:

She seems to embody something ancient for me. Like she’s an old, good witch of a sort. Someone who knows all the secrets of womanhood, because how else could she look like that? How else could she look so at ease with herself?

Kagami:

She smiles that all-knowing, all-powerful, “you puny human are lucky I’m nice” kind of smile at me, so what the hell am I supposed to say?

Not to be insane in the ask box but I was going through your knb blog (which is a miracle given that it's 2024 and not 2014) and all the kagami-posting just makes so😩😩😩

And MY personal crazy moment is that his cynophobia is treated as a joke because while I am personally not afraid of most dogs, I also scare myself with watching "It's me or the dog" type of shows and those animals can bite - we KNOW that Kagami had near death experiences in America and I'm sure his encounter with the dog landed him in a hospital getting stitches so I never liked it how Kuroko chases him with Nigou :(

i'm sure you saw my stupid meta about his near death experiences but i wholeheartedly reject his being bit on the butt like they try to tell us he did. not to belittle ppl who actually get bit on the ass but it's so clearly part of the joke and it's also sooo not funny whattt.

to me, they set up kagami to be the big tough main character, and then gave him a SHIT show of a backstory (neglectful parents, potential dead mother, having no friends for ages, being a sad sack, abandoned by his brother, language barrier issues literally wherever he goes, all those near death experiences, very very very big phobia of dogs, not liking his childhood nannies and not having any power to do anything about it, running away from home multiple times, becoming so strong at bball that he surpasses all his friends and they stop wanting to play with him, being called a monster, getting into scary situations with actual real bad guys (i.e. when alex makes him compete in those streetball comps when he travels to america in s2-ish). they built him up to be as traumatised a character as any of them (aomine in his loneliness, his insurmountable skill. akashi with his parental issues, neglect. himuro with his quasi-delinquent lifestyle. also fuck you himuro sorry idk what just came over me right then. anyway), and then they did nothing with it.

i'm not saying i WANT kagami to show trauma or anything, but his backstory is in canon absolutely miserable and yet they don't give him space to feel it? or to realise that he's deliberately not feeling it? they don't even give him a chance to express his opinion on any of it? the closest we get from memory is kagami saying that he was hurt by the dog, and what himuro did by leaving like that, but then he's back to being friends with him when they reunite. and that's just totally?? accepted as fine? idk bc i havent watched it recently but himuro FUCKED KAGAMI UP. he fucked up his trust, his enjoyment of their sport, his trust in himself, all of that. himuro is such a fucking slimy bastard to him and then it's :) just totally fine :) and it IS fine that kagami acts like that because it's in-keeping with his inability to register his own traumas. but nobody else has anything to say? i think kuroko gets close when he talks to kagz about it on the court in their game, but STILL? if i was kagami's bestie, i'd have some harsh fucking words for himuro i am TELLING YOU.

Regarding Misaka Mikoto

When you think about Waifu/ Husbando culture. The word; Tsundere comes out a lot. Anyone who has read my post about [World-building: becoming the Jack of all Genres], you know I had this coming! I love the <A Certain Magical Index> series in terms of its world building and its character’s respective development but I also LOVE its spin-off; <A Certain Scientific Railgun> Where we follow the young Esper’s adventures in Academy City with her best friend/ roommate; [Kuroko Shirai], her Judgement partner; [Uiharu Kazari] and close friend; [Saten Ruiko].

Born on the 2nd of May (Age: 14) and voiced by Satou Rina (Jap VA)/ Brittney Karbowski (Eng VA), Misaka’s story began when she agreed to meet Kuroko’s colleague, Uiharu and Saten for a casual hang out. After some time of mundane (at least, in Academy City’s terms of mundane.) adventures and high jinks, the pair grew to admire Misaka’s brave soul, sweet kindness and protective nature.

Raised from a more humble household, Misaka entered Academy City from an elementary age, distinguished by her professors, teachers and peers as a child prodigy. Initially starting out as a Level 1 (a low Esper rank) climbing her way up to Level 5 (the highest Esper rank.) Compared to the other Level 5′s she does not look down at students from the lower levels. In fact, she encourages them to keep giving their best effort instead of giving up.

But of course, her signature move and finishing move is; [The Railgun].

An actual scientific weapon backed up by ACTUAL science! Using her abilities, Misaka forms parallel currents on both sides of her arm and utilizing the Lorentz force, with the addition of Fleming's left-hand rule. She can fire metal objects three times the speed of sound. Her choice of projectiles are arcade coins that when fired, has a limited range at 50 meters.

However, in the series. She has been seen using larger objects with higher voltages. Shown on top. 👆

Dangerous weapons on her fingertips aside. Misaka is also a talented violinist but also has childish side. Despite being a teenager, she still likes to buy and own cute things especially when it comes to the local mascot; [Gekota]. However, she gets easily embarrassed when she’s caught by her peers.

Her Tsundere side is heavily showcased when she interacts with the main character; [Kamijou Touma]. Where she violently swings back and forth when interacting or referring to him. Claiming that she doesn’t have a crush while at the same time, goes out of her way to care for him and assist him when given the chance.

In an interview with Kamachi Kazuma, the creator of the series. He states Misaka Mikoto will be the one he would want to choose as his friend. Fun fact, there is a China-based video sharing site <Bili-Bili>  which referenced Misaka’s nickname "Biri-Biri" given to her by Touma. 

In addition, there is the giving "coins" feature for user contributions. Referring to Misaka’s use of arcade coins for her Railgun, the user rank system from level 0 to 6 is a nod to the Esper levels and the site’s celebration of her birthday.

On a personal level, I see a lot of her in my own personality.

As young working adult, I too own a shrine full of plushies, toys and trinkets but I’ve learned to accept it as a part of my personality. To see a character who is told to grow up and be more woman-like while also getting intense over winning a piece of “kid targeted” merch brings me back to my crane machine obsession and frequent visits I make to a nearby toy store.

I also think Misaka is a cool and cute character! She’s flawed, insecure and she’s relatable to anyone who struggles with abandoning their child-like tendencies to becoming a functioning adult. We root for her to grow and to be honest with her feelings towards Touma and we get to see that her fight is not just her own, because she has friends that she can rely on.

I know Its a little hard for people to understand but its just a different way of finding relatable characters to love and support. All in all, its in good fun. 

Biri-Biri is BEST GIRL and I can admire her in a totally normal way.

hinata + trauma in D:M? i know he's moved past his past (ha) & all, but i do wonder if his (seeming) complete dissociation w/ his past/trauma isn't unhealthy. speaking as a child abuse survivor who has a special interest in psych (so, only marginally qualified to have Opinions on depictions of mental health lol), you can absolutely recover, but there will always still at least be echoes of it on the rest of your life. mental scars that color the edges of your world. so what are hinata's scars?

I wasn't sure if this was a prompt or a question, anon-friend, but since I'm not writing D:M prompts I decided to take it as a question. =)

And apologies ahead of time! This is going to be kind of long, and it's not really going to answer your question, and that's only because it touches on a theme of questions/comments that I've gotten over the years (on tumblr and on ao3) and I always kinda dodge talking about it, but I figured it would be better to finally write out my thoughts on a post that I could point people to, the next time it comes up. So my long response is only because this is giving me the opportunity to talk about it!!

But yeah, I get variations on questions/comments that moderately boil down to, why don't you write about Hinata's past in the same way you write about the other Miracles. And as for your specific question, I will say that I am definitely not qualified to write about abuse/trauma with any kind of authority, so I can only talk about (for lack of a better phrase) authorial intention.

As a fanfic writer who primarily writes AUs, I make it a personal goal to always try to work with canon, so that canon dictates the rules of my world building and my characterizations. Kuroko no Basuke and Oofuri, canonically, are stories that lend themselves better to exploring trauma recovery than Haikyuu is. I would say KNB and Oofuri both explore themes of overcoming your past, whereas Haikyuu's main theme is always looking to the future.

One of the things I love most about Hinata as a character is that he's fundamentally optimistic and doesn't dwell on the negative. I finally got caught up on the 4th season (juuust in time for new episodes to come out) and that arc really makes it clear that Hinata doesn't suffer in the same way others would-- a lot of the other characters assume that sneaking into a training camp to only be a ball boy must be the most humiliating/degrading experience, but Hinata genuinely takes the opportunity as a positive experience for growth. Both in that arc, and throughout Haikyuu, Hinata is seen as the character who saves others with his positive outlook.

So, in the world of D:M, I had to reconcile how someone could experience Teiko and still come out with Hinata's positive outlook in canon, and my way of doing that was the disassociation of Hinata deciding the past is behind him. It was probably not the most elegant of solutions, but it was really important to me that Hinata has a very different post-Teiko experience than the other Miracles did.

The main theme of "Have a Seat" is that despite what Hinata experienced, he fundamentally believes the world is kind, and so he is met with kindness. It's a philosophy Kuroko doesn't fully believe but he wants to, and so he tries to live that way despite it not coming naturally to him. The climatic end of "Don't Blink" was the characters learning that people can be kind; "Have a Seat" was a confirmation of what Hinata already knew.

So, because of all that, I have always been extremely opposed to writing Hinata as a badass assassin, or as someone who is still trapped by Teiko, or exploring his trauma. I wrote one short where he does have nightmares, as I think that would only make sense, but I have always tried to stay true to my view of Hinata as a character, which is someone who remains positive in the face of adversity and looks to the future.

Hi! I just found your posts on knb, and recently gotten back into the knb-fandom myself. I just wanted to say thank you for your angry posts about last fame!! While i did not think about the issues regarding Kagami, even thou yoz make several good points! My main issue with the movie was that it was simply underwhelming! Like there were parts where it felt lacking. Like Kagetora's rant in the beginning! Sorry for just ranting like this! Thank you!!

Yeah! Like I take a lot of issue with the movie (as you’ve all seen lmao this is in fact still a last game salt blog) but it was also like ... unnecessary and i think that kinda helped in making it underwhelming. I think part of why it took me so long to watch it (besides not wanting knb to be over and people telling me i wasn’t missing much lol) was that there wasn’t really anything that needed that much tying up. If anything this movie opened up some stuff that needs resolving, but the show like wrapped up. All of the antagonists were defeated, everyone got their character arches, and while Kagami and Kuroko weren’t the best in Japan yet they were clearly on their way there. Like any fan, i’m interested in more content, but i’d generally like there to be a reason (other than money) for something that seems to have an ending to continue. Like, I’m really not sure what a knb season four would even look like when people talk about wanting it. You can show the growth of the teams, but ultimately you’d be seeing a lot of the same unless you introduced new schools, especially since some teams did play against each other more than once already. Which brings me to another reason that last game was underwhelming: who the fuck cares about this American team? You can bring in new characters into shows/movies, but it’s hard to do in a way where people care. We cared about the GOM even as they were introduced because there was build up with all of them. Akashi didn’t come in until like late season two, really more season three, so kind of a new character, but he was still tied to the plot and thus we cared about him. This new team... not so much. They’re just this powerful team we’ve never heard of and we have literally no reason to care about them because their entire purpose is to be rude and then get dunked on and we already have two teams that serve that purpose but actually have some kind of connection to the plot and characters. Their point was also to show the GOM fighting together I suppose, but we have seen that. In middle school and in the Kuroko bday ova. They didn’t even do it effectively. They physically handicapped Mura and underutilized others. The game they teased at the end would have been a much more interesting show down since it’s characters we know and care about at least, but that could have just been an ova. TLDR: last game was underwhelming because it was unnecessary and why should we have cared?
