Psychic of the Icelands - Sabi

[Inspired by @monsoon-of-art's Pokerus AU]

Akari grunted, heaving herself up the latest set of steps (And a bit away from them) before collapsing on the ground in a heap, groaning. “‘Nybody got any Ethers?”

Rei followed her not long after, while the Professor brought up the rear - both of them in slightly better shape than the rookie Explorer. At least enough that they hadn't dropped dead. “I…I think I’ve got the stuff for one, hang on…” The Dewott looked over, confused as her companion pulled out a berry, some grass, and a mortar and pestle.

Confused, Akari looked on as the younger native crushed and combined the “ingredients” together before dumping them onto a sheet of paper and passing it to her. “Here, eat this and you should feel more energized.”

…nothing ventured, nothing gained. She picked up the paper and opened her mouth, tilting the sheet upwards to let the stuff just pour in.

Ok, that tasted…meh, but not baWOW! The Dewott jumped up, almost beaning Prof. Laventon in the head with how high she went. “HOLY CRAP! That stuff WORKS! Th-that’s gotta be like a Max Ether or something!” She couldn’t help but twitch and fidget, the energy just rushing through her as professor and aide shared a glance.

“...maybe we’ll split a portion…”

“Good idea, Professor.”

All Ethered up and ready to go, the group advanced through the winding hall, the slight chill the Icelands had left with them slowly fading. “...Sabi…is a Magby, right?” Best to confirm, given what happened last time she met a Warden.

“Yes, she is.” A nod from Rei. “It’s somewhat surprising, given her powers, but I suppose her Magmortar was the closest to her.”

Stop and look behind her, eyes locked with the other mammal. “Wait. Powers?”

The Dartrix flapped over, smiling a bit - something other than combat made him happier, she supposed. “Ah, yes! Miss Sabi is quite the clairvoyant. She predicted my arrival in Hisui down to the second and has managed to save several people with her predictions! It's honestly quite amazing, and if I could I'd love to investigate her abilities. Why, I had no idea a human could-”

A loud screech cut off the discussion, Akari taking this as a sign that Sabi - or at least a Boss - was ahead. So she rushed forwards, her companions catching up with her relatively fast.

Soon, they came to a round snow pit, much like Lian’s “arena”, with what seemed to be a Magby in the middle. However, something seemed…off. The colors were funny, and there was this flickering flame in the middle of its forehead that resembled an eye. What the heck was th-

ACH SHE WAS AIRBORNE AGAIN! Akari tried her best to swim through the air, getting closer to the odd Magby she assumed was Warden Sabi. Seeing as said sorta-bird’s loud cry was apparently lifting everyone up in the air, it was a bit tricky to do so…

*THUD!!* Aaand now she’d fallen. Great. Well, given the Sneasals earlier (not to mention Lian), it would be a good idea to ask: “So are all Magby like this around here, or?”

“Goodness no!” The Professor gave a surprising reply. “This the first time I’ve seen any Magby like this, let alone Warden Sabi!”

“...so it’s not just a weird variant?!” The professor scoffed at the mention of the local versions of some ‘mon being “weird”, but Akari brushed it off. What was important was that this Magby was apparently Psychic, and a rather strong one too. This wasn’t going to be an easy fight-

Especially if she got picked up every darn time she got close! The Fire-(and probably Psychic-)Type whipped her head, sending the other female into the wall with a meaty *thunf*. “...I’m ok!” And she was - not only was she in better shape before the fight than with Lian, but the walls here were a good bit softer being packed snow.

Still hurt though.

As she tried to get her bearings straight, a silvery slash dashed through the air, striking the Magby dead on. Looks like the Professor could get some hits in…that’s a relief. And that Thunderbolt showed that Rei was pitching in as well. Not as well as she’d like, given that you had to let the enemy touch you to use Static, but given that Sabi was prone to lifting anyone within a certain distance of her and lobbing them into the wall? Probably a good tactic. Also, OW.

So change of plans. Akari knew she couldn’t keep charging in long enough the frenzied Warden occupied and let the others finish the job since those slams would add up. It might have been possible if the Warden had a small HP pool, but she wasn't in the mood to find out. So time for a different tactic… Like Ingo would say, “If you find yourself on a train that’s going the wrong way, disembark and find one that leads to your destination.”

AAAH MAGBY HEAD HURT SO MUCH

Welp. That worked like a treat… Akari had Sabi’s attention on her, away from the other fighters (Especially the weak-to-Fire Laventon). The Dewott simply darted in-and-out of the bird-lizard’s range, sending a Water Pulse when seemed like the Warden was getting too close to Laventon and Rei

In and out, back and forth. Spritz the bad bird when it’s bad. Nice tactic is nic-

OW. OK, apparently Sabi was starting to get tired of her little dodging game and had… collapsed part of the wall on top of Akari. Wasn’t the Magby supposed to be too mad to try tactics like this? Or maybe it was all the fire attacks that’d come this way loosened it enough that it gave on its own.

Either way, she was stuck - and getting more stuck as the reddish-pink aura surrounding her pushed down, burying her deeper in the snow. A lot deeper, it was actually coming up to her mouth! An attempt to Water Pulse her way out was met with snow in the mouth, turning her attack into a Snow Pulse!

…which was really just a decent-sized puff of snow in front of her. Oh great.

There was one last mental shove before Akari felt her nose get buried in the snow, making it hard to breathe. Sabi moved toward her two teammates as the Dewott tried to think her way out of this. Alright…come on, come on, come o-

*BZZZAP*

“MAG!” *Thunk*

Wait, did Rei just Thunder that Warden so hard it knocked her out? Because it sure looks like it. Once her friends had freed her, Akari slowly approached the prone Magby, gently poking it. “...yep, she’s out. Nice job Rei!”

“Eheh, well, that last jolt was kinda me panicking…”

“Panic or not, that was a surprising amount of electricity you used, Rei. I dare say it’s the strongest you’ve used so far!”

The ‘chu’s eyes lit up at the Professor’s words.“Really?”

“Yes, really.” The avian smiled, Akari watching fondly as she tapped the Fire-type with her badge, sending Sabi outside in a pulse of light. “Alright… let’s get out of here. Grab on you two!” The Dartrix readily grabbed onto the Dewott, already ready to leave, while Rei took a bit longer. A good-natured chuckle escaped the Water-type before she tapped her badge twice, emptying the room in a column of light.

I feel like people aren't getting it. In. The. Books. Perseus. Jackson. Is. An. Unreliable. Narrator. This goes for everything he thinks. Percy loves his mother, so he writes her praises. In the show we get to see what Sally does from an outside POV not filtered through a child that idolizes his mother. It's not ooc for Sally to act like she does in the show. she's a single mother raising a neurodivergent, Demigod, and she's scared that when the Gods get to him they'll corrupt him. She's not suddenly a girl boss we're getting to see her for how she is.

Redraw of one of my favourite moments in Succession because Roman's my favourite and I wanted to practise drawing him but then I got too involved and turned it into a whole comic and I don't even really like how it turned out but I spent too long on it to not post it 😭

I wish I could do something more creative than just redrawing scenes from the show but I find the characters so difficult to write 😭 like I'm genuinely jealous of people who can write good fanfiction of them

It's crazy that people still uphold show!Sansa as a well-written character and pretend that liking her is the pinnacle of feminism when it would be infinitely more impactful to acknowledge her terrible and misogynistic writing. This is the same character who, while written by two men, was thankful for the abuse she suffered because it allowed her to grow. The same character who we had to be told was smart because the writers were too lazy to develop or show her intelligence. The same character who had to rely heavily on the men surrounding her and ended up accomplishing nothing on her own merit ( and no, thinking that she deserved to be Queen doesn't mean that she earned it). She is not well-written, she is not complex, and she is not a feminist character. Which is fine! If you enjoy her then good on you, but please stop pretending that she's something she isn't just because you feel the need to justify liking her character

I'm late to the party. But...

a few thing...

How can he look so good?

They both look sooooo shocked!!!

AND It's actually going just like the anime!!!

The only thing is with the Manga pacing i don't think we are getting any new content anytime soon. The earliest i can think of is maybe in February or March.

Though maybe we can get some new shots (or a much needed explanation) of Soukoku's prison break plan... As much as i love the whole Soukoku's undying trust in each other, i still need that mind-blowing logical plans that BSD is famous for.

But there must be some way the Chuuya knew how to act around Fyodor enough to fool him into believing that he was actually under vampirism, say like a character study, that every actor needs to do before they perform. Because in this chapter, the Shock on Fyodor's face was evident, more than in Anime (how that is possible i can't exactly say, but you know what i'm saying right?), and he really seemed out of cards till this moment at least.

(Not that i believe that Fyodor is dead or will remain dead)

It's also import to note that Soukoku are not completely out of hot waters.

They are still stranded just outside the best Prison in the world

Are away from their homeland, in a completely foreign country on the other side of the world.

One of them in injured (maybe heavily)

There is a group of dangerous ability users in the country they are stranded in

And the world is still in chaos after the whole vampirism and nukes and all

So, it's still as dangerous as it gets.

Not that its anything new for this duo.

Ya know, the one thing im really worried from the show is Grover.

Like, characterization wise, they are doing a bang up job with him! And Aryan delivers everytime. No notes and no complaints.

But where is any of his satyr side of things?

The bleating he does when he is nervous. Any of the nature magic he can do. Him playing his pan flutes. The fact tht he can read emotions. THAT HE CAN SMELL MONSTERS! Like ?? where is all of tht??

(I am very glad tht they added Pan and the searchers like this cuz i was afraid it'd be too late to mention this)

There's something absolutely ironic and even compelling to me about the domino effect regarding Akechi and Sae's interactions. Akechi had to deceive everyone, including his coworkers. Sae in particular was closely tied to the investigations of the crimes he was committing, so of course appearing as non-threatening or even annoying as possible to her was in his best interests.

However, his petty but arguably feeble masquerade is what led to his cognitive self in Sae's brain presumably being easy for the Phantom Thieves to tie up? He was too good at deception and it led to Sae's perception of him being sopping wet cat, which was easy for the Thieves to subdue, so the threatening, real Akechi wouldn't stumble upon Sae's cognition of him as he went to murder Joker.

I know people usually discuss Shido's cognitive Akechi and the implications regarding Akechi's presentation of himself and his layers of deception, but Sae's is the direct contrast to Shido's, and it's very interesting to look at how being a petty little asshole to your stressed out hot lady coworker about her skincare routine can also contribute to her thinking of you a a nuisance at best (until it was almost too late for everyone involved, but hey, it worked out for the best? I think).

I love the layers of Akechi's deception because he was cunning to a fault. Sometimes I wish we could have seen how the Thieves interacted with Sae's cognition of him, because both Sae and Shido had a very biased perception of him, and it makes me wonder who really knew Akechi at all. I'm rambling here, but it's been on my mind for ages. I would love to see if her cognitive Akechi changed after 11/20, considering he went from annoying junior detective to a dangerous murderer in just one day for her, and she doesn't remember any of third semester or even 12/24 when he was there.

#parker says things #I love Sae I love everything she represents and her impact on the story so much #She's probably my favorite non Thief character other than MAYBE Sojiro and it shows #This was on my mind as I wrote her and Akechi interacting post canon because wow they barely did and we didn't see any of it on 12/24?#hardly any #I wanna know how she'd react to his actual demeanor especially after 11/20's hellscape #she walked out of that room suspecting him due to Joker and then came back to a murder scene even if that was the metaverse #actually so fascinating to think about how she had no choice but to adapt #and her palace was still there? Atlus give me more please #p5 spoilers #goro akechi the man that you are god I love you and your masks and deception and true self #and how those masks deceive even the player. sometimes even long after completing the game #on all sides. god it's so good #I love any characters who make me think I love morally gray characters who are actually morally gray #ahhhhhhhhhhh

i honestly dont hate the ATLA adaptation but im definitely not entirely happy. when comparing it to the original they made a lot of the core ideas, arcs, conflicts, and characters kind of just….flat. and they also changed a lot of central motivations for characters and the things that made them so excellent, and misinterpreted a bunch of them, so yeah. some things were too rushed, and it all took away from a lot of the things that made atla such a meaningful show and a powerful teacher

that being said, it was kinda expected because they had to condense the whole thing into a few episodes, and ATLA is rly not a show for which you can do that easily, so i gotta cut them some slack. nothing will live up to the OG and thats that. BUT there were also some GREAT bits of acting in there PLZ can we talk about it because certain characters were captured really well (FOR THEIR ADAPTED SCENARIOS.) as well as great representation

i would honestly not mind a second season because it really was not all that bad as a show, independent of the original. it was engaging and had just enough humor and anger and sadness to be a well balanced show overall, i dont think its aim was to be a perfect recreation of the original
