like i said before and will continue saying for perhaps ever it’s very very. Telling. about me that i always get really attached to *ships that are basically just overly dedicated male/male friendships/frenemies that get separated and then reunite and them reuniting is an important plotpoint in the thing. and the reunion’s all Messy and Complicated because they fell out or ended on just. a general bad note. and All The Feelings (good and bad) come back up to the surface to bite once again.

primary examples being philip and neville from thtdb, herbert and paul from madhouse, and sil.co and van.der from ar.cane. to name a handful i’ve been pretty attached to.

or *ships that are like. dedicated male/male friendship where one of them is the isolated, Insane genius and the other is their dedicated, lonely bestie who would do anything for them. and the insane one is kinda of a prick but actually insecure and the unconditional bestie reassures them and kinda. tames their temper a bit just by finally being a positive force in the insane one’s life. and they find solace in each other’s support and even just mere presence. :).

primary example being sherlock and watson, Of Course. i’d also put victor and hans in revenge of frankenstein and victor and hans 2 in evil of frankenstein up there, too.

(though with victor and hans it’s kind of implied they eventually fell out after the events of revenge by the lack of hans kleve in later entries in the series. which drives me up the wall :) if you take it as it’s own thing, they get a happy ending, but if not, then they don’t. which just. adds so much more to victor and hans 2′s dynamic in evil of frankenstein if you view the two movies as chronological/evil as a continuation of revenge with a time-skip explaining away hans’s absense.)

*(fandom-y ships, yes, but also more. hm. observational ships? like you don’t ship it in a ‘they’re cute together’ way but in a ‘them being together/having feelings for each other is either so implicit that it might as well be canon or is just much more narratively interesting to look at within context of the media than them being only friends, etc. you don’t necessarily ‘ship’ them but you prefer to interpret them as such.)

-Left shows Tim and Drake scheming various contingency plans while they suffer through another sleepless night. When they sleep, Tim’s and Drake’s memories mix together, creating Frankenstein nightmares that make Tim violently wake up, trembling from head to toe. So through a forbidden concoction of energy drinks and coffee, the two keep themselves awake and pass the time by planning ahead for any potential disasters.

-Right show Bruce finally noticing Tim’s heterochromia. Lucky for Tim, heterochromia can be a side effect from sickness or medication, so he uses his last cold as the excuse for it. ((Bruce, can’t hear Drake btw, only Tim can))

-The only other person who knows about Tim’s extra passenger is Raven, who immediately noticed their odd predicament. Thankfully she was very understanding and willing to keep their secret, but she seemed both concerned and amazed about their situation.

-A body would normally burn out supporting two souls, but Tim doesn’t seem affected at all. In fact, his soul and Drake’s seem stronger than ever, each supporting one another equally and fully, which seem to invigorate Tim instead of debilitating him.

-With Drake’s soul, Tim is immune to both mind control and possession. Which ironically can be pretty OverPowered ability considering how often it  happens in the SuperHero business. 

-Bruce isn’t ignorant to Tim’s new weird mannerisms and quirks. His fighting style is way too advance, his intuition which was amazing before, is now frightening accurate, but the worse are the visible signs of exhaustion and PTSD. He doesn’t say anything though, as he doesn’t want to make Tim feel pressured or coerced. So he’s being patient for now and silently hoping Tim will eventually tell him what’s wrong.

creating a creature from the pieces of different human parts and piecing them back together is not what a particular man had in mind. his intention was to create something to discover the secrets of life and death. or something.

but on accident with some missteps, he created a monster. a tall, large monster with the features supposedly of a monster, but out came a beautiful giant. with the longing feeling of affection.

since . . .

his creator did not like him one bit.

lance, a creation of a monster that existed for such a ridiculous reason with no other purposes in life. a beautiful giant, made to be a rat of the lab. a creation left in the dark, abandoned very soon by his very own creator.

what was so wrong about lance? what went wrong? isn't he beautiful? isn't that what his creator pictured in his theory-obsessed mind?

the creature lived in solitude for months. his organs does not work. he could survive an eternity without food or water, perhaps he could even survive in extreme changes of weather. either way, he would be a beauty in those weather.

lance looked at himself in the mirror left behind by his creator. it wouldn't even fit his entire body. he was simply too large to fit in the frame. all he could see was an angelic face with a poorly stitched body. he could see weird substances oozing out from those stitches, and they weren't even blood.

at least, to lance. not until a man arrived at the abandoned facility along with his beautiful daughter. they seek to help or 'complete' the experiment that the creator of lance had left behind. as told by mr. l/n, he introduced himself as the partner of his creator. maybe mr. l/n could give lance a new purpose in life.

"i am going to sew you properly," you said, preparing your tools to sew the loose stitches on lance, the beautiful monster. "ready?"

the monster nodded, watching as you carefully poke the needle into his unfeeling skin and started tightening the stitching, replacing some with new stitches so he would look way better. lance's eyes never left you, your focus, and he took notice of how your hair falls to the front as you work on his hands.

without noticing, his hands made its way to brush your hair behind your ears, causing you to look up. was it fear that he saw in your eyes? no. it isn't. your fingers weren't shaking at all. it couldn't be. it was sorrow and hatred all alone, no found fear.

lance fell in love with a human girl who first stitched his arms the moment he knew of her.

your father saw that it was so, then came a genius idea that sparked his mind and motivation. in continuing a project that his old friend had left alone. the man let the monster understand what it was like to be human. he treated lance like a human boy, teaching him life and emotions. and feelings. he sparked an attraction in lance's heart, all of it feeling towards you.

"i want y/n to be my companion."

lance said.

that was all it needed for your father's final tool to be put to use after months of shaping the creature into a perfect human monster. all he needed was for lance to utter those few words and he will be putting you to use.

when y/n opened her eyes, lance felt his face lit up at the sight of his new companion. a beauty, same as him, a creature. so beautiful, that he wouldn't dare touch her just in case she crumbles from his harsh hands.

there the forgotten soul of y/n lies in a renewed body of female monster, created to be the companion of lance the beautiful monster. with mind and heart belonging to a real girl. she is to sew every loose stitches in lance's limbs and to tend to his needs.

y/n is to be a frankenstein creation's lover.

I just want to talk about the curious connection between Dabi and Mr. Compress.

When MVA starts, we have 6 members of the LoV, these 6 are the most recognized members. While everyone in the LoV are connected because they share a lot of between themselves, each member have their partner. This duos are thematically connected, their characters share more specific things and usually, their best relationship in the LoV are with this partner. These duos are formed around the main 3 villains: Toga and Jin/Twice (the most notorious duo), Tomura/Tenko and Shuichi/Spinner, and Dabi/Touya and Mr. Compress/Atsuhiro.

A lot was and is talked about the first two duos, so let's focus on the third one.

I think it's not a surprise that despite the fact that Touya didn't want to get along a lot with the LoV, he did. And the one who weirdly had and has a better relationship (the best Touya can do) is Atsuhiro. The two mysterious ones.

What they have in common?

Theater/Dance theme, performance as the core of how they show themselves: While Atsuhiro is more "dramatical" and elegant, we know Touya, when it comes to showing before his family, he does his act, certain poses, phrases, etc, it's more like gothic literature btw (he is like Frankenstein's monster) Both share this theater theme/aesthetic, it's obvious, it's the first trait that its presented about Atsuhiro. While in Touya's case, is something we see later.

The family heritage and believing they are an extension of certain relative, the core of their stories: Core piece of their stories is about the accomplishment of his family heritage, the importance of their family ties.

Touya puts emphasis on being Endeavor's son, explaining that he does what he does because of being his son. He is Endeavor's projection, his continuation, his extension.

Atsuhiro puts emphasis on being Oji Harima's descendant, explaing he does what he does because he has to do what Oji Harima did. He has his blood, he sees himself as his continuation, his extension.

Atsuhiro himself highlights that Touya and him share this thing about being part of certain lineage.

Both let their lifes be about this relative, making it the core of their decisions and actions.

Of course it's extremely different what they lived but the point here is the essential part of the influence of family heritage in their lives.

New identity: Easy, Touya died, Dabi was born.

Atsuhiro before was a magician, an entertainer. But now he is Mr. Compress.

They new identity are their choice, it isn't a reference to someone else, and it's not only a new name and look, it's a whole new life purpose, their new self.

Both hid their true appearances, and revealing themselves is a big show.

Dabi's Dance and Final Performance: Touya's revelation and Atsuhiro's escape "act" are events that happened next to each other. In fact, one is ch. 290 and the other ch. 294. Atsuhiro's revelation follows Touya's. He starts the show with his dance, and Atsuhiro finish it with the League's escape. It all start with Touya first move of presenting himself as Touya Todoroki and ends with Atsuhiro's reverence. And they use the same stage for their show.

Both chapters have this curious theme about staging and their performances. For Touya its the beginning of his show, while for Atushiro, its the final. It's literally in the titles, the show theme is so important.

In these chapters, both reveal their real appearance and present their family ties and how important they are for who they are now.

Another detail is that the last one that Atsuhiro compressed is Touya, giving him something like a high five, looking like some takeover for Touya. Now he is the principal performer, the principal entertainer, it's his show, the beginning of it.

Self destruction as their show: Atsuhiro mutilated himself making the great escape for his friends. He didn't stop until Mirio punched him, but even being hurt, the show didn't stop. Touya is burning himself even more for his show. In Dabi's Dance he burned more parts of his skin, and during this final arc, he looks like a corpse, and it's crucial to his "show", his last show. Also, both do this using their quirks.

This is what I meant in my last post abt this version of Macavity trying very hard to be simultaneously more and less provocative btw.

It’s kind of fascinating-- there's a big chunk of Cats that does little to no storytelling beyond 'check out this cool character who’s part of the Jellicle club' and yet Macavity is one of the few songs that’s actually trying to tell the audience something vital to the plot: Demeter knows Macavity.

It's important that the audience learns this-- not only that there is a story between those two, but also what that story is. If Cats doesn't establish that connection, then it'll just look like Macavity is snatching up random ensemble cats during his and Munk's fight. This song establishes the connection between Dem and Mac, and gives the audience a big fat reason why Mac is targeting her specifically: their relationship was sexual. You cannot escape from the fact that their relationship was sexual in 98 Macavity.

And this gives Mac a motive! It characterizes him as a villain, it establishes why he's even interrupting the Ball in the first place, it establishes why he targets Demeter, & it establishes why Demeter specifically seems terrified of him. Without the context this song provides, Demeter might as well just be a random ensemble cat who gets the responsibility of yelling 'Macavity' for each scare.

See: Macavity and Demeter had a sexual (maybe romantic) relationship > Macavity wants to get Demeter back > Macavity interrupts the Ball and takes Deuteronomy (and attempts to take her along the way) > Misto has to bring back Deuteronomy. This song sets up a big chunk of what Cats' plot/conflict is.

But tswifts bomba/dem Frankenstein (Demetaylurina if u will) is very obviously not in a relationship with Macavity; she works for him. He's her boss. She's not even a Jellicle, there's no reason we need the relationship between these two cats to be explained to the audience.

The stage play certainly doesn’t bother establishing the relationship between Macavity and the 2-3 henchcats that help him kidnap Deut! Their relationship doesn't matter, Demetaylurina herself doesn't really matter either, all she does is drug the cats (which is its own weird thing, plot-wise) and she only does like 2% of that job, most of it is M&R and the rigged moon prop.

And then you can say 'well she doesn’t matter to the plot but her relationship with Macavity can still be explored, not everything has to be plot-relevant’ which is true, there are big chunks of Cats that’s pretty much just exploration of non-plot-relevant cats' relationships. But the song doesn't explore their relationship. Because their relationship in the movie pretty clearly isn't sexual, and yet Demetaylurina still acts and sings in this provocative manner that (tries to) mirror the stage version. Like I said in the other post, the choreo that slings it in the audience's face that Demeter (and Bomba) had a sexual relationship with Macavity is gone, so their relationship is comparatively pretty sexless. But there's still this sexuality to the song that tswift just tries to jam in there with her voice and sort-of dancing that serves absolutely no storytelling purpose.

All of the sexuality in regular Macavity is very pointed-- both Bomba and Demeter have this sexual tension between themselves & Macavity, which is impressive bc he’s not even present. That 'there’s no one like Macavity' line where Demeter smacks a hand on her inner hip is an excellent example-- and it loses all of its oomph in tswifts version.

By all definitions, if they wanted to rework Bomba/Dem to being Macavity's henchcat instead of his former lover, then the song should've reflected that-- make it a menacing jazzy song like the original M&R!

But they don’t do that. The song is still sexual, or at least it tries to be: instead of the very potent, very pointed sexual aspect between these two characters in the stage play, you get Demetaylurina just kind of putting off sexiness into the world with no target and no goal, it’s just. there. It doesn't have any storytelling aspect to it and frankly it feels like the bargain version of most Demeters and Bombas-- and that's not even a dig at tswift, because again Dem and Bomba actresses are working with this actual story, dynamic, and history that they're given to act out to the audience as vividly as they can. Meanwhile tswift is just. Being sexy. Her character has no background, no meaning, no dynamics with other characters, no history. She’s just there. Being passively sexy.

Except it’s not passive because you can tell she’s trying very hard to come off that way.

It's just… odd and janky.

i watched lisa frankenstein and immediately thought of inuokko because i am entirely not normal !! the greatest part is that this story would work both ways so just sprint with me right now

my preference for insane yuuta is entirely prevalent btw

option 1:

yuuta’s entire family moves after the sudden death of his childhood friend to give him a fresh start. he struggles to find a place to belong in school, and struggles even more in the bad relationship with his parents. his little sister is one of his last positive relationships and tries her best to keep him included. he spends most of his time in an abandoned ceremony, at a grave of a boy who died at his age, accused of witchcraft.

he has a parasocial relationship with him in that he’s absolutely obsessed with the concept of a loner, rejected by society, just like him. and spends hours just talking to him, taking care of his grave, and staring at his statue like a weirdo !

after a party gone wrong, where he drank spiked punch and after being pestered about a girlfriend, he goes back to the cemetery in time to see the beloved grave get struck by lightning. hence toge rising from the dead, confused but recognizing yuuta’s voice from being the only person to talk to him. his throat is damaged from being hanged, some of his skin has been damaged enough to see the bone, and he’s missing an arm.

yuuta hides him in his room, and toge hears everything. one night, after a particularly bad one-sided argument between yuuta and his father, toge thought he was going to hurt the only person to be kind to him. so for the first time since he died, he used his abilities and killed the man. immediately after he was remorseful and afraid yuuta would hate him, but he got the exact opposite reaction. yuuta was so touched that someone would go to such lengths for him, and strangely delighted by the gruesome scene. enough to where he wanted to recreate it.

so yuuta starts picking off the people who bullied him, harvesting what toge needs to be put together again. they diy a lab with lightning and every time toge looks more and more alive until you couldn’t tell him apart from any other person. he gets more confident in school too, becoming friends with maki and panda who see him as a little weirdo. in the process, yuuta falls in love with him beyond the parasocial relationship of before, especially when toge accepts his new murderous habits so easily.

eventually they’re found out after yuuta ends the second parental figure and his sister walks in on him. she’s devastated, traumatized, and runs out of the house covered in blood. he decides then to join toge and so they can start a new life together. a few months later, they’re not even a thought in anyone’s mind, except for his sister who keeps their existence a secret, living with their uncle gojo.

option 2:

toge has just moved in with a distant relative after the last of his immediate family was murdered. the trauma of witnessing their deaths led to his already selective mutism to complete silence. he is bullied at his new school, especially since he doesn’t defend himself. his classmates maki and panda take him under their wing, but he spends most of the time at the cemetery.

it’s quiet there, abandoned and full of greenery. there’s also a grave of a boy who died of a broken heart after a life of sadness. he spends a lot of time there, just sitting alone and keeping company to this lonely boy. he leaves behind a handmade charm, hoping to give him a little peace. it’s something he hopes someone might care enough to do for him someday. he’s already planning to request his very own burial at this peaceful place.

panda invites him to go to a party, but after being harassed about his voice and separated from his friends, he ends up stumbling home, half-drunk from an awful concoction. it’s there that he finds yuuta, fresh from the grave. he’s missing an eye, ear, leg, and covered in cuts that crisscross across his face and chest. in his hands, he holds the charm toge made for him. after a mini freak out, he cleans him up and hides him in his room. yuuta talks in slurring words but his eyes are full of wonder at the kindness he gives him. he follows him like a hobbling lost puppy, nearly getting him caught several times.

it’s when one of the biological, older, slightly bum kids who has been harassing toge since he came that he moves to protect him. he doesn’t even hesitate before he’s bursting out of the closet to strangle him. afterwards, they take his leg and toge sews it onto yuuta, who almost looks up at him like he’s waiting for approval. toge knows it was wrong, should tell him not to do it again, but part of him couldn’t help but feel protected for the first time in his life. and yuuta, who was so kind to him, was still suffering, wasn’t he? so maybe he couldn’t help but notice that one of his bullies has striking silver eyes.

it’s not hard to lure them, and yuuta takes care of the rest. diligently, toge replaces the lost parts until yuuta looks just as alive as he does. in return, yuuta encourages him to stop hiding his face, enough to where others begin to notice him. the moment yuuta is complete, he swings toge around until he laughs and then kisses him.

they aren’t actually caught before they leave, they both want to start over, and hearing that toge is a suspect is enough for them to book town. he decides to join yuuta, it works as now everyone thinks he’s dead. the only person with their suspicions is maki, who visits his grave with panda regularly, and sees the charm she knows toge made.

listen to me very carefully when i tell you we NEED more dark inuokko, and by that i do not mean sadness. i physically cannot read angst without a happy ending. i mean unhinged, crazy, mutually obsessed inuokko that don’t burn each other, they just burn the world around them. I was poking around for copies of the Matrix comics last night. And I stumbled across what I didn't actually recognize at first as the publisher's website. I figured "biblionaut dot org" was just some kind of abebooks clone

The comics were originally published by Burlyman - a publishing company owned by the Wachowski sisters. It was only really ever used to print Matrix tie-ins (the art book, etc)*, plus one original Wachowskis comic about Frankenstein defending Roe v Wade or something

*[edit I lied. The artbook was Warner Bros, Newmarket, & something called "Redpill Productions." So just the Matrix comics, Frankenstein, and "v for vendetta script to screen"]

So what's Biblionaut? Some new company that bought Burlyman?

If you look at the website, it's laid out like Burlyman is supposed to be one header or imprint under a larger Biblionaut umbrella. But the Burlyman stuff - Matrix + Frankenstein - is literally all that's on there.

The bottom of the page links to an insta account. "We sell books," and the url for burlymanentertainment dot com. Which does still exist, with formatting straight out of 2004

The site's been updated to include the latest reprints/20th anniversary editions, while keeping it's neocities-core aesthetic (unlike the original whatisthematrix dot com, which tragically reroutes to a bland warner bros shop). All the "buy online" links lead back to Biblionaut.

So, my best guess: Biblionaut is just Burlyman, renamed and rebranded.

But it's interesting, looking at the general "we sell books" tagline. "Also the home of Burlyman." The site layout that seems designed for other imprints to be added. The move away from a niche Coen brothers/wrestling joke, and toward a more universal, professional-sounding publishing house name.

Are the Wachowskis planning to...actually use their publishing company for something? Maybe platform some other people's work?

According to Wayback machine, the site has existed in this form for about 2 years - right around the time Resurrections came out. So if there are any plans, they don't seem that pressing.

But given that the Wachowskis' creative career started with showing up on Clive Barker's porch and begging to write for the Clive Barker Presents comic line, it would kind of be full circle

I have been rewatching Buffy recently btw, part of a sickness recovery tactic; I haven't been blogging about it because It Be That Way sometimes, my executive dysfunction strikes with its own will.

But one cache'd thought I have (likely through talking about it with friends) is that Season 4 is a good deal better than I remember. Season 4 of Buffy is often maligned; its probably considered the worst season except Season 1. The reason for that is two-fold; one, Riley sucks. Two, the 'arc plot' is poor. Season 4 revolves around The Initiative, a government operation to kill, research and weaponize demons. Its head, Dr Walsh, is essentially built up as the arc villain - a compelling one, a human being with real motives and ideologies that can clash with Buffy. Until she is murdered by her own Frankenstein creation, Adam, who becomes the new villain but to Buffy is just a tough dude to either whack or be whacked. This is a bad choice - Adam is probably the worst final villain of the entire show.

However, this is also the wrong lens to put on Season 4; its arc plot is also the least important an arc plot has ever been. Season 4 is not a full comedy, but in fact it is deliberately trying to shake up the often-maudlin formula of Season 3 for a new tone. Ever-brooding Angel & stone silent Oz are written out as main cast members, to be replaced by Spike, objectively the funniest character in the show, and Anya, a far more zany romantic partner for the Scoobies than Oz could ever be. The college episodes are full of the ridiculousness of that environment, and a lot of social mockery of college mores. Episodes that could be scary still have a ton of laughs - Hush (which, hey, one of the best episodes of the show, in Season 4!) is in fact very funny, with famous Buffy gifs from it.

What makes this all work beyond "being funny" is tonal alignment - the theme of the season is everyone being "adrift". Giles is fired from both his jobs, Xander has no career path, Willow is drifting apart from her friends, and Buffy is struggling to find a way to be "normal". These are themes that are way better done farcically; they are, in a certain sense, a little bit pathetic. In one of the final episodes of the season, the "plan" to defeat the Scoobies is Spike just...casually drops fake gossip about them in convos and they are start tailspinning, because they already are tailspinning. And you can do that kind of social implosion really funnily, in a way Angel & Buffy's relationship could never be.

And note how that is one of the final episodes, and it barely has anything to do with the Initiative or Adam. Those plots definitely eat up screen time and have their moments, don't get me wrong, but its given a good deal less focus. Its not fight-riposte with the Initiative; instead a background hum complicating the new lives they are building. The last episode of the Season isn't even the Adam fight finale! Its a dream sequence lore-building episode instead. So yeah, its worse, but its almost intentionally worse; if the villain was an Angel-tier threat it would be impossible for it take the backseat to the thematic elements.

So while Season 4 still has its weaknesses, Adam was a mistake in the end, I see a lot better why it is the way it is and the good stuff it has going through it. As I have been watching I have been following along with this old review blog of Buffy, Critically Touched, which was one of the biggest "comprehensive" analyses of the show in the 2000's (its comment section is a time capsule gold mine). And it gives every episode a letter grade, and even displays the whole season as a graph. And if you look at Season 4:

Its pretty solid! For sure, it has clunkers, I think the opening ~5 don't nail the tone right. And Where The Wild Things Are is...yeah, you can skip it. But Hush, The Yoko Factor (the aforementioned Spike episode), Who Are You (Faith's return), Restless (the dream finale), are some of the best in the series. Also this reviewer doesn't love Superstar, the Jonathan-alters-reality-so-hard-he-inserts-himself-into-the-theme-song episode, but its amazing - his complaint is that it isn't about the arc plot? But the arc plot is boring! Its not the point. Its an A+ comedy episode for sure. This is too many home runs to be a down-and-out season. You just need to take Season 4 as it is, and not as something trying to be a repeat of Season 3's stakes.

Riley still sucks though.

Hey. You should ask about my Sekai OCs. BTW. No named units but 3/5 units have full concepts + 1 that's still being worked on but has a named Sekai. Details are subject to change cuz I'm not done.

Similar to how the canon is basically themed "Ways to share music" these OCs are matching under "Feelings that inspire music" so the units I have are:

The Haunted Sekai (Joy/Excitement) - A group with an interest in Halloween-esque media. They met when all 4 happened to be curious in the same "haunted" house at the same time. Each member is represented by a unique monster. Their Sekai is an infinitely large old mansion that always seems to collect dust again. Their main vocaloid is KAITO.

The Performance Sekai (Spite/Anger) - A group of girls that auditioned on an idol survival show and lost. 4 of them have decided to form their own idol group apart from a big agency to become stars on their own. Their main vocaloid is Luka.

The Storybook Sekai (Longing) - A group of girls with a shared interest in fairytales and fiction as a form of escapism. Each member is represented by a different fairytale. Their Sekai is an unending library with a bookshelf filled with stories. Their main vocaloid is MEIKO.

The Kingdom Sekai (Not yet worked on but the idea is they meet on a fantasy MMORPG) Their main vocaloid is Rin.

One emotion being considered is "Uncertainty" but I'm unsure if it'll go to the Kingdom Sekai or the last Sekai which'll have Len. All Sekais obviously have a Miku.

All Vocaloid in the Haunted Sekai represent classic characters from novel (Ex: Frankenstein/Jeckyll + Hyde). All Vocaloid in the Storybook Sekai represent different tropes in fairytales (Ex: Prince Charming/Fairy Godmother)

ok. i didnt mind genloss, it was ranboos first massive project, theyre only 19 and a streamer, ok. but oh my god would it kill to take an improv class. the first 2 episodes felt like an snl skit. especially when it was branded as original and then was just some sort of frankenstein of different horror tropes from ranboos favourite horror media, that just reminded me of snl stealing joel havers skit lmao.

there were so much issues with it and i feel like i wouldnt mind as much if it was branded as a horror comedy a few months before the show, not 3 days before the show. a few months before and the weeks leading up to may 24th, it was branded as "you arent ready for this. this is groundbreaking, nothing will ever be the same after this show. this is serious." etc and then i think it was like 3 days before may 24th there was that fucking showfall media psa that just felt like ranboo saying "oh btw its a comedy" without warning it caught me so off gaurd lmao.

then he streamed after that sfm psa released and, if i remember right, people were asking about it being a horror comedy in chat and ranboo was like "well yeah obviously did u think id make a project 100% serious? no lol" (dont quote me on that though its been a while) now theyre saying gen 0 and gen 2 are going to be completely horror now, but i dont think thats true bc they also said gen 1 was mostly horror and none of it is

speaking of, the advertising was just lies lol. the whole "little to no filler :D" thing. it wasnt like ranboo didnt expect the improv to last that long bc the expected runtimes (from their tumblr post on may 23rd i think) were sometimes longer than the actual ones. 1st ep was meant to be 1-2 hours, it was 1 and a half, so that much filler and standing around going "what the hell man" was PLANNED. they just lied about no filler to make people excited. just be funny and i wont mind the filler. i like sneegs humour in his streams but here he was just bickering with ranboo. same with ranboo to charlie, charlie was the only one making actual jokes so when ranboo and sneeg were alone it was just "wait so why didnt you just-" "well idk i thought u woul-" "well why would i-" and when i tell you it drained my soul.

ive been a massive ranboo fan for about a year (im recovering dw), and after the game theory episode i got really hyperfixated on genloss (up until the sfm keynote thing i think). i was hyped for it back when T_1 was the only thing released for genloss, and followed it all the way up to the streams. i watched them live and my face was just like 😐 I WAS SO DISSAPPOINTED LMAOOO

the box being 18k pissed me off so much bc an experienced filmmaker/writer/director could make something so much better than genloss with just that 18k. i aspire to make my own live action thing one day, and like, hearing them go "oh yeah the box was 18k and jermas face prosthetics were 10k teehee🤪🤪" was just. AAAAA. and the thing is, like the prosthetics were funny, but spending TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS as a BIT from jerma going "what if i took off the mask and it just doesnt look like me lol" then framing urself as jesus christ and a victim. i am so mad.

idk how to feel about ranboo anymore, i used to watch like every 2nd stream for a while but then the whole "GUYS BUY MY MERCH also racism bad MERCH!!!!! BUY!!!!" thing made me rethink lol. the racist and misogynistic undertones in genloss made me so uncomfy, and while im not poc so i cant speak on that, i have enough sense to know that having the only poc in the entire show play evil rats is so tone deaf.

and niki!! i was worried when the teasers were coming out bc every single person shown in it was a white guy (and a white enby), so i was kind of happier when niki showed up, but then she died within the hour to "commentate on misogyny in media". ranboo thought that he was commentating on misogyny by contributing to it. did they think this through at all. i would have LOVED if they did something special with niki and something powerful, but all that happened was she showed up, cried, then died and now ranboo fans are going "ranboo was so real for this!!!". ik niki had control over her characters writing but im sure ranboo was the one who decided when certain characters died and stuff.

also i hate to say this but the mask flashing to signify if he was in control or not was EXACTLY like a thing in the undertale fanfic (sfw im not weird) i wrote when i was 12 💀💀the characters eyes would flash when they were under control bc edgy. it was so weird watching genloss with that in the back of my mind 💀💀💀💀

in conlusion, genloss had so many flaws and so much easy fixes that it just feels so sososososososo rushed. another year in the oven wouldve been ok i think.

Tommy had just been nerding out about Frankenstein to his soulmate after they recommended him to read it. He’d also areived at his new emergency placement due to the last one being an absolute asshole.

and now you gotta go read it to see what comes next, currently 12k words 5/? chapters, its very interesting and the literary aspect really adds to the story. iorion once again scraches just the right spots of my brain and im insane for their stories :D!!!
