Explaining the Aspects

A very important part of everything in astrology (predictive astrology, natal charts, synastry…) is knowing how aspects work.

There are two ways to explain each one of them, the more formal one which is what you see in books and the one with analogies. I like to do both because it's hard to make something stick in my head, LOL. So let's go.

What is an aspect?

Okay, so now let's finally talk about what all these astrological aspects really mean. Basically, the aspects are like the different vibes and energies that flow between the planets, which represent different parts of your personality. So, depending on which planets are in aspect with each other, you might feel more stressed out or more at peace in different areas of your life.

It's kind of like a map of your inner world, and the different angles and shapes that the planets form can either create a sense of harmony or tension. The way that these energies interact can really affect your personality and how you feel day-to-day. So, if you've got a lot of planets aspecting with each other, you might feel those influences more strongly than if they were just hanging out on their own.

There are several aspects, but the ones I use and the ones that are most seen are: Conjunction, Sextile, Square, Trine and Opposition. What about the others you may say, well, I don't work with them, so I am not going to dive in about something I am horrible not good at.

Conjunction

Basically, a conjunction happens when two planets are in the exact same spot on your astrological chart - we're talking zero degrees here, people. Typically, people say that an orb of eight degrees on either side is what counts for a conjunction, so there's about a sixteen-degree arc where these planets can be hanging out together.

When planets are conjunct, it means that the parts of your personality that these planets represent are getting super cozy with each other. The quality of this connection really depends on which planets are involved - if it's two inner planets, you're probably looking at a pretty chill and harmonious situation. But if it's a mix of different kinds of planets (like mental and emotional), you might get some tension going on.

If the Sun is involved in a conjunction, it's going to make the planet it's conjuncting even more powerful. And if the Moon is involved, it's going to bring out the subconscious influence of that planet in your psyche.

Now, when we start talking about outer planets, things can get a little tricky. Depending on how your psyche is set up, a conjunction between outer planets can either be super harmonious or super stressful. And let's be real, most people find the energies of outer planets to be pretty difficult to deal with.

Even calculated points like the Ascendant and Midheaven can get in on the conjunction party, and they tend to take on the flavor of whatever planet they're conjuncting. So, if you've got a planet conjuncting your Ascendant, that planet's influence is going to be even more magnified in your personality.

In other words, conjunction is when two planets will work on the same issue in their company, and depending on the planets the work environment will be good or bad.

Sextile

The sextile is like two planets giving each other a friendly high-five from a distance of sixty (60) degrees apart. It creates a hexagram and a Star of David shape on the astrological chart. Basically, if two planets are within twelve (12) degrees of each other, they're sextiling. It's considered a good vibe kind of aspect, like the universe is giving you a little helping hand. It's all about opportunities and being able to make the most of them.

When planets are sextiling, it's like they're saying, "Hey, let me help you out, bro!" or "Yo, I've got a great idea, let's work together!" They complement each other and bring out the best in one another. For example, when a fiery planet is sextiling an airy planet, it's like they're two peas in a pod. Similarly, when an earthy planet is sextiling a watery planet, they just get each other.

But, like everything in life, there can be downsides to the sextile. If you ignore the opportunities presented by the sextile, you might miss out on some great stuff. If you pursue them too hard, you could end up stepping on other people's toes. If things come too easily to you, you might start taking them for granted. And if you're not careful, you might let greed and selfishness get in the way of your personal growth. So, remember to stay humble and grateful, and take advantage of the good vibes when they come your way!

In other words, the planets support each other here: it’s a collaboration no matter the company sector they work for. If one is making a mistake, the other will rectify it and not complain; if something is wrong it will provide support and not critique. For example, if your Pluto is in sextile to Jupiter, you will feel quite powerful while you’re feeling lucky, but if you play too much, you will recall that you need to be more serious and reserved.

Square

It's what happens when two planets are 90 degrees apart from each other. Usually, there's an orb of about 8 degrees in either direction, so the square can happen for about 16 degrees total. This divides the circle into quarters and makes a square shape within it.

The thing about the square is that it's all about conflict and confrontation. It's like two cars crashing into each other or one car smashing into the side of another. The right angle means there's a lot of resistance and neither planet can easily budge the other. So, it's not exactly a happy-go-lucky kind of aspect - it's considered a tough one.

Basically, the square represents different parts of your mind that are fighting with each other. And if you're not dealing with those inner struggles, you might end up projecting them outward and causing conflicts with others. The planets involved in a square are usually in elements that don't mix well, like Earth and Fire, Fire and Water, Water and Air, or Air and Earth. So, it's hard to find common ground and make peace.

But hey, don't despair! Even though squares are traditionally seen as bad news, some astrologers think they can be good for you. The tension and conflict represented by the square can help you grow and develop. It forces you to overcome obstacles and learn how to deal with difficult situations. So, even though it might not be easy, it could be just what you need to become a stronger, better version of yourself. And, honestly, a chart without any squares might mean you're not being challenged enough to really reach your full potential.

In other words, when the planets are subtracting each other. They go to the desktop and refuse to look each other in the eyes. They will not cooperate when it comes to working together. So if you have Jupiter in the 10th house and Mars in the 1st house, when talking about career you can see your Mars as your eternal front neighbor who sells exactly the same thing as you, you can help each other… but it will need A LOT of maturity.

Trine

Hey, so the trine is formed when two planets are separated by 120 degrees. It's considered a chill and harmonious aspect, and can be represented by an equilateral triangle within the horoscope circle. Basically, everything is balanced and the vibes are good. The energy between the planets flows easily and functions associated with those planets tend to work well together.

If you have a trine in your chart, you might find yourself feeling happy and content with its trine subject. However, there are some risks associated with the trine. If one or both of the planets are difficult for you to work with, the trine can actually amplify that difficulty. Also, because everything seems so easy, you might become too complacent or unprepared for life's challenges.

On the upside, the trine can help raise your consciousness and connect you with your spiritual side. There's also something called a grand trine, which is even more awesome because it involves three planets in trine with one another, creating a circular flow of harmonious energy. All in all, the trine is a pretty sweet aspect in astrology.

In other words, the planets add up and it can be both useful and dangerous. A trine in earth house (2nd,6th and 10th), might generate an obsession with these themes, making the native anxious, as well give the native skills that can make it shine in several fields.

Opposition

So, basically, when two planets are opposite each other at a distance of 180 degrees, it's called an opposition. This means that the functions represented by those planets work in opposite directions and can often lead to conflict. However, the conflict associated with an opposition is generally more easily resolvable than that associated with a square.

The key to resolving the conflict of an opposition is to realize that the duality between the two functions is just an illusion. Both sides of the opposition actually share common qualities and complement each other. By finding this common ground, opposition can be transformed into cooperation and harmony, leading to strength and wholeness.

However, if the conflict is left unresolved, it can lead to confusion, dilemma, and ongoing conflict. To protect itself from the discomfort of the conflict, the ego may adopt one of three defense mechanisms: siding with one end of the opposition, suppressing one side of the opposition, or projecting the qualities of one of the opposed functions onto someone or something else.

Eventually, though, the subconscious mind will create circumstances that force the ego to confront the conflict of the opposition. So it's better to face the conflict head-on and work towards finding common ground and cooperation rather than avoiding it altogether.

In other words, the planets will argue A LOT, but remember that not every discussion is bad, there’s discussions that’re for improvement, like debates.. but this is always an exhaustive process. When you use energy from your Moon that’s in opposition to your Mercury, both your emotional and rational will get tired because the two worked, even on opposite sides.

so, naturally, when you hear him utter those very words onstage at reading, not really that long after you've allowed yourself to leave work mode and be in enjoyment/proud girlfriend mode... you're not chill about it. so not chill about it, in fact, that ms xcx - who you've been downing vodkas with for the entirety of your boyfriends's set - actually has to be like "babe, are you alright? you look like you've seen a ghost". you're tipsy like "i can't believe he just fucking called himself that. onstage at reading festival. and on a livestream by the british broadcasting corporation. people have paid telly license fees in good faith and had to hear him say that! fuck!", and charli's like "what did he say? daddy? what's the big-OH MY GOD REALLY? wow, that is not the vibe he is giving off to me AT ALL. but i love that for you lol. you kinky little bitch!"; you're like "charli i am begging you please do not let on that you know" and she hugs you like "won't even tell george don't worry. and you don't wanna KNOW the stuff me and him are getting up to (i mean, you kinda do, but you won't pry). but yeah, i think you're maybe in for a fun night tonight, babe, if matty's feeling himself like that", and you're like "yep, i think you're right". and charli's like "well then, cheers to us and getting railed post-show!", and you laugh and clink cups and enjoy the rest of the set in peace.

as she is about most things in life, charli is dead on about you being in for a wild night after the show - matty comes offstage and heads straight for you so he can make out with you immediately, before lifting you into a hug and being like "hi, perfect girl. d'you enjoy that? i did". and you're like "mhmm. you were amazing, as always", and matty kisses you sweetly before he smirks like "d'you hear what i said, too?", and you're like "i did! i found it very... interesting"; he's like "well, i was just thinking about how well the show was going, and then i started thinking about how it wouldn't have been half as good if my princess of a girlfriend hadn't worked her magic on the prep, and then i thought about how stressed she was about it and how i helped her be less stressed, and then had the amazing idea that i could do the same thing but as a way to show her how grateful i am for her work and how much i love her". you blush and kiss matty's neck like "well, how do you want me, daddy?", and matty's like "all spread out for me, princess, on that sofa in the extra green room. up for it?" - you nod like "take me now, please", and matty's like "oh, gladly". and yeah, in that random spare room that the team were given and didn't use at all... matty definitely made sure you had a good night lmao <3

[my favoritest persona fanfic ever I think so hard all the time about this author's writing style and how the characters are written how they handle trauma and growing up and moving on from all the Things that happened in the year they were phantom thieves. the way akechi and jokers relationship is written & the way their arcs are written . this is both a great take on the characters and persona 5 and also a very well written Story in general with well executed Plot and Arcs. Everything else by this author is also fire.]

Amamiya isn't nearly as terrified as he was. As he should be. Instead his head is cocked, and he sounds equal parts frustrated and confused as he says, "I thought I was getting a do-over."

Akechi stares at him. Nearly drops the gun. Tightens his grip until his gloves creak. "You remember this happening before," he says slowly, more an accusation than a question.

"Yeah. I thought it was the drugs." Amamiya gestures at the floor, where wet syringes are scattered. "Is this real?"

Akechi realizes that he was tricked into killing a cognitive Ren in time to return and kill the real one. When he wakes up the next day, it's November 20th again, and he is a very stubborn man.

Unfortunately for his plans, so is Ren.

Warmth Amidst Frost

There was many sides to Mondstadt’s Calvary Captain. He was a man of many talents, and one of the strongest among them was his charisma. Kaeya was quite skilled in reading people, and in turn, playing along with their desires.

So often did the man hide behind a mask that occasionally he would begin to lose himself, something that only ever led to him try to bury his self doubt under the influence of alcohol.

But then there had been you.

You had burst into his life with all the grace of a wild whirlwind, though at first he hadn’t even noticed your presence. At the start he’d thought that the traveler was the center point of all of this, but it was only after joining the outlander to investigate one of the old temples that he’d truly noticed you. No, it turned out, the traveler was not the center of this. The center of it all was you.

He had almost feared reaching the end of the temple, not wanting the strange warmth of your presence to leave so soon. But alas, all too soon the job was done and it was time to return to Mondstadt. To his shock however, your presence remained around him, even as he bid the traveler farewell.

He grew used to the soft warmth of your gaze, a kind of warmth he’d not felt in many many years, one he’d been longing for despite his insistence he did not.

Kaeya was no stranger to combat. It did not take him long to notice how easily battles seemed to become as time passed, nor did he fail to note the way in which his blade cut through opponents nigh-effortlessly. Battles that would’ve once took both him and a few other knights were now resolved with only his strength alone.

He knew it was you. It had to be. Your presence had appeared only days before these strange developments began to take place. It had to be you.

At first he’d been cautious of you. He didn’t know your intentions, nor did he know if he could trust you. Yet little by little you chipped away at his frozen heart, slowly breaking down its walls and taking a place within it for yourself.

You’d stolen his heart, and he was okay with that. Being able to bask in your presence was enough.

Until one day, your presence disappeared.

He knew you had other vessels of course, yet somehow, someway, he knew that you hadn’t simply turned your attention to them. You were gone, not just partially, but entirely.

Kaeya did not take it well, though unless one looked very hard it’s unlikely they’d have seen his stress. His fellow knights knew how rough he was taking it, and Diluc could also tell, though none of them said anything about the matter.

He had been on his way back from the ruins of the Thousand Winds temple when he felt it. Something he could only describe as a spark. The faintest flicker of flame, yet to one as accustomed to frigid chills as Kaeya was, even that miniscule flame was like a lighthouse among a darkened seashore. He wasted no time, rushing towards the feeling with urgency clear in his movements. He reached a clearing and froze as he saw a stranger lying on the grass, sound asleep. The clothes they wore were odd, like nothing he’d ever seen before, and the only expression on their sleeping face was one of peace, despite the fact that a small Cryo slime was snoozing in their arms.

Hey its Chunn 2.0 (Technically XIV 2.5, but different dominance balance) and I'm out here for a specific reason and its made me realize two things.

Firstly, I am so huge on team full titty chop - cause damn I was thinking about real shit and got jumpscared by huge titties and it nearly broke my vibe ngl. Good thing we have our consult in two days.

Secondly, it's kinda funny when you know the context, but I think I'm gonna be the part assigned to being support for our fiance when hes at his worst cause a lot of our other parts are too cerebral or high energy or honestly concerned and mentally "busy"

And our fiance is very much a complete freeze response where his body physically tries to shut him down and everything short of sleeping and dense dissociation (DPDR) causes a migraine or panic attack. Which honestly is completely opposite of our system's coping as people that get busy when at our worst; so a lot of parts are pretty lost as to what to do to help and cause theyre cerebral they try to solve it in their own head which makes it ironically harder to just be there with him. For most of the system, its either "fix it" or leave him on his own and they struggle to do anything in the grey zone solely cause its not a learned skill and they worry and thus stress themselves out a bit too much (thus making their energy go up, which is not helpful)

Where as like me? My empathy is shot so hard, even if I wanted to worry and be stressed with you, I fuckin cant mate. But thats okay cause you look like you need a break, like you need something chill and that sir, I love chill.

Hey if you need a low energy source of calm and stability I'm great at that. Hey man, we can go sit and watch ducks tomorrow for like four hours idk man.

And thats cool and all, but the funny thing is, when I first resplit as Chunn 1.0 I stressed the system out cause I really had a lot of negative reactions to him and him being mentally ill cause of trauma and general overload and shit. I was literally like "hey yall I think we should just break shit off cause yadayada" and I actively avoided and disliked him specifically 😂

And so here I am being like "Hey yall, if you guys dont mind, Ill handle him when hes having huge recovery crashes and seemingly developing agoraphobia cause man, same hat ngl ngl /hj /lh"

please don't read if you do want any spoilers!!! i will be working on episode 10 as soon as I can. also if i missed the name charlie that is eddie, just before they changed his name

"NARRATOR: Welcome back to Love Island where amateur chiropodist Kat is giving Suresh’s cold feet a thorough examination." Or are they up to something hotter? How will this shake up the villa vibes? Let’s find out!

"You are sitting on the day beds with Dana. In the aftermath of the kissing challenge Kat’s declaration to find out if Suresh is over you is still hanging in the air."

DANA: I can’t believe so much has happened because of a few little kisses.

PLAYER: There wasn’t anything little about some of those kisses babe.

DANA: That look Kat gave you as she strutted off said a lot. I doubt she’s trying to calm the situation. They haven’t come back out of the villa yet. Do you think she’s sticking it on him?

DANA: Still, I wonder exactly what they’re talking about? Suresh could be up to something. Does it bother you that Suresh might be spilling to Kat about your past?

DANA: Let’s look on the bright side. At least we’ve got this moment to chill here without any annoying interruptions.

Dana appears a little bashful.

PLAYER: I think Eddie’s just a bit of a try-hard.

DANA: Maybe but how can I be certain that I can trust what he says?

PLAYER: Just give him a bit more time. Maybe he just needs to relax and drop his front a bit.

DANA: Maybe you're right I suppose I could give him a chance before making any decisions."

You and Dana look around the villa for a moment. The night is getting cool and quiet.

DANA: You know we can’t stay out here all night. We’re gonna have to go and see what’s going on with Kat and Suresh.

DANA: It might be a bit tense in the bedroom though.

PLAYER: You think?

DANA: I think there’s gonna be a bit of simmering beef between the boys. And you need to find out where you stand with not just Suresh but Alfie too.

ALFIE: Hey Y/N I might be able to help with that. Come over and join me at the swing seat.

Alfie walks away. You stand up and follow him.

ALFIE: I’m sorry Y/N I really am. I was vexed by the whole thing. Seriously I’m sorry.

PLAYER: What for?

ALFIE: For the way I acted earlier. I should have handled it better than that. My days what a fool.

PLAYER: Everyone was a bit emosh.

ALFIE: I know it’s just that the stuff about Suresh really got to me. Stuff like that always does.

Alfie is pacing about.

PLAYER: Sit down Alfie. Just chill for a minute.

You and Alfie sit down on the swing seat. You can see that Alfie is starting to relax.

ALFIE: It’s just that I’ve known geezers like him before and girls those that play about liars and cheats. People that mess things up and don’t care who they hurt.

PLAYER: Like the player that cheated with your ex?

ALFIE: Yeah.

PLAYER: You never gave the whole story on that.

ALFIE: It’s nothing but a sob story though. What made it worse was that it was the only serious relationship I’d ever had.

PLAYER: I hear you.

ALFIE: I sound like a right loser.

PLAYER: So, what happened exactly?

ALFIE: But as you may have guessed the "part" wasn’t mine. Turns out that it belonged to this other fella she’d been seeing. She texted me thinking I was him.

PLAYER: Oh no mate that’s awful.

ALFIE: Then she tried to make out it was some kind of joke. I couldn’t see the funny side.

PLAYER: Of the "part"?

You laugh before covering your mouth. Alfie smirks.

ALFIE: So anyway, that pic meant no wedding no kids no barbeques. How’s that for a break-up story?

I don’t know what to think after hearing that story

PLAYER: That story is nothing to be ashamed of. I think it’s hilarious.

ALFIE: I suppose so. The more I tell it the sillier it seems.

PLAYER: I feel sorry for you Alfie. Nobody deserves to be cheated on. Even if it does make a kind of funny story.

ALFIE: No need to feel for me.

PLAYER: I’m not sure what to make of that story Alfie.

ALFIE: Well, let’s both use it as a lesson for the future then.

ALFIE: What makes the whole thing worse is that the guy was a player with a capital P. He cared less about her than she did about me. Neither of us ended up happy I suppose. You pick yourself up and move forward. It stung for a bit but I’ve healed.

PLAYER: Maybe it’s not about who you’ve been with but who you end up with.

Alfie perks up a little.

ALFIE: Exactly. So, let’s both get over our bad experiences.

PLAYER: Bad Ex-periences you might say.

ALFIE: You’re stealing my lines now!

Alfie laughs.

ALFIE: I think we should let all that drama out the window and get our graft on. I really do think that I’m ready to find love you know. Like proper love. It’s been a minute and I think it’s about due.

PLAYER: Good for you.

ALFIE: Thanks. I think I deserve it… and I think you do too.

Alfie looks at you his eyes go down to your mouth.

Eddie slinks away with this fresh piece of gossip.

You’re in the dressing room with the other girls. You’re all getting ready for bed. Kat enters a sudden tension swirling over the uncertainty of what Kat might’ve done with Suresh earlier.

KAT: Been a long day hasn’t it girls.

DANA: It sure has.

KAT: I must admit I’m excited. I can’t wait to see what Finn’s got in store for me tonight.

DANA: I’m glad we were all given ear plugs on arrival.

KAT: Yeah yeah.

DANA: Kat I hear enough of you moaining throughout the day. I don’t need to hear your moaning through the night too.

KAT: Excuse me I’m not always moaning.

DANA: Chill Kat jokes mate!

PLAYER: Come on girls let’s not create any more stress today.

PLAYER: It will probably be a good chance to chat with him and clear the air.

DANA: Yeah hopefully you can find out if he’s playing games with anyone. He might even dish on his chat with Kat.

PLAYER: Maybe, maybe not. Depends on what he wants to talk about.

PLAYER: Today’s been long. I don’t need him causing any more drama. I just want a good night’s sleep. So, I’d prefer him to stay on the day beds.

DANA: You think it’s part of some game of his?

PLAYER: Could be. He might be up to something.

PLAYER: The only thing on my mind is what’s going on between him and Kat.

Dana has climbed into bed beside Eddie who is applying lotion to his tanned chest.

Alfie is curled up alone in his bed. He’s staring up at the ceiling deep in thought.

Suresh is sitting up in your bed. He’s brushing his hands through his hair.

You walk through the room towards your bed.

DANA: Night Y/N.

Dana holds out her arms to you.

You walk around to your side of the bed. Suresh’s eyes follow you as you move. He has a charming smile on his lips.

SURESH: Before you say anything else are you ok with me being here?"

Yes, it’s fine. After a day like today you deserve a proper bed

It’s not ideal but the bed is as much yours as it is mine

PLAYER: Yeah, it’s fine. You can’t keep staying out there on the daybeds.

SURESH: Thanks.

PLAYER: It’s not my dream scenario but you can’t keep sleeping outside I suppose.

You climb into bed beside Suresh.

The two of you lay there side by side. There is a moment of silence.

SURESH: I’m sorry about earlier. I didn’t see it all kicking off like that.

PLAYER: Everything got a little out of hand.

SURESH: I’m amazed that Kat was the one to calm it all. She’s got a sensitive side that one.

PLAYER: Really? Is that what she was showing you when she took you aside?

SURESH: We were just chatting Y/N. Nothing more. She just explained that kicking off is never a good idea.

PLAYER: I thought she loved any drama like that?

SURESH: Maybe she thought things had gone too far?

PLAYER: Hard to believe.

SURESH: Well anyway I calmed down.

Suresh rolls onto his side and faces you. He lowers his voice.

SURESH: And it dawned on me how much I lost when we split. How losing you has left a way bigger mark on me than I thought.

PLAYER: It took you this long to realise?

SURESH: Nah I always knew babe. But seeing you again has brought it all to the surface. It’s like I’ve tried to bury it you know. Tried to not care. But I realised today that I care about you more than ever."

Things between us maybe aren’t lost forever

SURESH: Ok I understand that. I guess it takes time for some of us to reconcile with things that have happened in the past."

SURESH: But I know you and I know that one day you’ll find the good in it.

Suresh bites his lip and smiles at you.

SURESH: The challenge earlier got me thinking about our first kiss.

PLAYER: Oh, you’re not gonna get all sentimental are you?"

Suresh laughs.

SURESH: Not too much. I just couldn’t help but think of it.

You hear Kat giggling from across the room. Finn lets out a loud moan.

Alfie laughs.

His infectious laugh causes the rest of the islanders to join in the laughter.

They try their best to hide it but fail.

ALFIE: Sorry mate but you sound like an elephant."

FINN: You should see my trunk mate.

KAT: Do you want me and Alfie to swap places?

FINN: Sorry babe.

Dana lets out an exaggerated cough.

DANA: Keep it down some people want to go to sleep."

EDDIE: I don’t.

The room falls quiet again.

Suresh smiles and continues to whisper.

SURESH: I think we’re gonna make some great friends here.

PLAYER: Just friends?

Suresh flashes you a cheeky grin.

SURESH: Where were we?

PLAYER: Our first kiss.

SURESH: Oh yeah. The restaurant.

PLAYER: The very fancy restaurant.

SURESH: Yeah, I went all out to impress you didn’t I?"

PLAYER: How could you not?

SURESH: That place was stunningly beautiful. Only appropriate for a girl like you. Do you remember how shocked the couple at the next table were? That night was wild.Do you want to reminisce about our first date? Talking about what we got up to will remind you of how hot we were.

SURESH: The customers in that restaurant had no idea what they were in for. They did not expect to see what they did.

PLAYER: Suresh I’m not in the mood for going over our past."

Suresh smiles.

SURESH: It’s making me blush already. It’s also the night I really fell for you. How could I not? You sure you don’t want to reminisce for old times sake?"

SURESH: I’ve probably spent more time thinking about it than I should have.

PLAYER: You need to find something else to think about. Maybe somebody else.

Suresh moves a little closer to you. He speaks even quieter now.

SURESH: Eddie came over to talk to me earlier.

PLAYER: To talk about what?

SURESH: About you and Alfie.

PLAYER: What about us?

SURESH: Eddie said that you were getting cosy.

PLAYER: We might have kissed so what? What’s it got to do with Eddie?

SURESH: He said it looked pretty full-on.

PLAYER: We hugged so what? What’s it got to do with Eddie?

SURESH: He said you looked pretty close.

I don’t care what Eddie has to say

I hope that hasn’t upset you

PLAYER: I don’t care what Charlie said. That’s private between me and Alfie. It’s got nothing to do with Charlie. And it’s nothing to do with you either Suresh."

SURESH: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to annoy you. Charlie was probably just looking out for his mates that's all."

PLAYER: Charlie is right me and Alfie are close. But he doesn’t need to go sneaking around.

PLAYER: I hope this hasn’t upset you Suresh. I don’t want you to think that I’m scheming.

There is a slightly awkward pause between the two of you.

SURESH: Do you think I should leave?

PLAYER: This is your bed too.

SURESH: I meant leave the villa.

PLAYER: Oh.

SURESH: Maybe it would be for the best. Depends on what you think though doesn't it?

Maybe if you left, I could start fresh

PLAYER: I don’t think that’s necessary. You came here for the same reason as I did. If we can’t find love here, where can we?

As you hug Suresh you look over his shoulder and see Dana looking at you.

EDDIE: Beats me. One minute we’re spooning the next we’re not."

Alfie sits up.

ALFIE: You need to go after her Y/N.

SURESH: You don’t need to go anywhere. She probably just needs some fresh air. Come back to bed.

As you hug Suresh you look over his shoulder and see Alfie looking at you.

Alfie gets out of bed and heads to the door.

PLAYER: Alfie?

Alfie walks out of the bedroom.

Kat and Finn emerge from their sheets.

KAT: What the hell’s going on?

FINN: Yeah where’s Alf off to?

Dana sits up.

DANA: You need to go after him Y/N.

SURESH: You don’t need to go anywhere. He probably just needs some fresh air. Come back to bed.

You are frozen for a moment caught in the decision."

NARRATOR: Blimey Y/N has a tough decision ahead. Do they get back into bed with Suresh? Or chase after Dana? / Or chase after Alfie? I’m glad I don’t have to make these decisions. I’ve always been indecisive. Some days I can’t decide on which underwear to wear. And I’ve only got one pair! One thing I’m sure about is that you won’t want to miss what’s coming up. I like New horizons but also I hate new horizons something something dead horse.

I do not expect this post to get a lot of attention lmao. I love a lot of new horizons and i have been playing since day 1 of the game. But i have issues you see. Every time i play this game i get burnt out VERY fast, and i don't know why. I try to relax, not min/max the game, just chill and vibe and not overdo it. So how am I getting burnt out??? I think i know why :

The game is too tedious but not enough reward for that tedium, not only that but its TOO random so there is no use in effort

let me explain. 1- you want to decorate your island for the fall season. 2- it takes forever to GET fall materials because its all RANDOM and you can ONLY get this shit from balloons and villagers. you have to roll a dice if you get the item you want. 3- once you finally get enough materials to decorate your island, it takes FOREVER to terraform everything, get stuff placed to look good, etc. 4- whoops! its winter now time to rip everything up and start over!

there is nothing ENGAGING about collecting the entire collection of furniture in this game. Either i get to waste my time sitting around hoping the DIY recipes appear-ify itself into existence like its Homestuck act 3, Or Nookazon which isn't a part of the game.

"but Kat! " you may yell for some reason "its animal crossing! you are supposed to chill! " with all due respect nonbinary strawman i came up with on the fly, what IS there to do in new horizons other than decorate ? The villagers don't appreciate your decorations or sit in chairs, their dialogue is horribly repetitive, and all the interactions you have with them are just copied over from new leaf. the core game play loop of new horizons is get on, do chores, collect materials and decorate. there is nothing wrong with that, but the problem lies with the fact that you have no way to influence the items you pick up, and its tedious to ACTUALLY decorate. Its not relaxing its a chore. this brings me to my second problem:

The game mistakes tedium for challenge.

WHY couldn't Isabelle just TELL me Gulliver is here? (before the update) that would be too easy apparently. Instead of just telling me he is here, I have to be stressed running around my island EVERY DAY to find out who is here today and who isn't here today. its not a challenge its just MORE time wasting. of course I can't just put time into working towards the Space themed furniture or put some amount of effort into it to EARN the furniture I need to cheese fucking metonook and spend literal months hoping Celeste RANDOMLY gives me furniture rather than me getting the satisfaction of earning the furniture. its not a challenge, Its not a relaxing pass time. Its tedious. Same goes for terraforming and everything else. This game is trying to convey the vibe of growing a bonsai tree where you slowly trim the tree over time to make a beautiful shape. what it REALLY conveys is raising an aggressive toddler that randomly does stuff and then you need to go through the effort to get the little creature dressed in decent clothes every day. I love this game. the update improved the game. But if there is anything I want from future animal crossing games: FOCUS LESS ON CUSTOMIZATION. I don't want to spend 500 hours on something i will just tear up eventually and no one will appreciate. I am so so tired of being the mayor. please just let me be some random weirdo again Nintendo. Please let villagers be mean again and let me do more than give them crap and design their houses.
