Hey, did y'all know that Tumblr has a function where you can filter posts based on what's actually written in the post itself and not just the tags?
Thought that was pretty neat and useful information, and here's how to do it!
For mobile users:
Tap the account icon
Tap the gear icon at the top right, then tap "General Settings" (iOS) or "Account Settings" (Android)
Scroll down and tap "Filtering"
Tap the +New icon to add a new filter
Type the new word or phrase you want to filter, then tap "Add"
To remove a filter while using the iOS app, swipe left on that item, then tap "Delete." In the Android app, tap the filter you'd like to remove, then tap "Remove."
For desktop users:
Click Settings on the left hand side.
Scroll down to the "Content you see" section and click the pencil icon to the right of "Filtered Post Content."
Type the word or phrase you'd like to filter, then click "Add." Keep in mind that you're limited to 200 filters and each filtered word or phrase has to be under 250 characters.
To remove a filter, click the "Remove" button.
This method doesn't filter tags, but filters the actual words in a post!! It might take a moment to kick in, but I tested it, and it does work!! Hope this helps everyone!

I just wanted to say that I am in AWE of your organization skills. That masterlist is masterfully done. I’m trying to do something similar for my own blog, but I’m having a hard time figuring out categories and making sure things don’t overlap and everything is easily findable. I aspire to get it looking like yours!
@thegirlsinthecity Thank you for your kind words 😊. It's still an imperfect system (some tag overlappings that seemed like a good idea at the time, now I'm doubtful about, and the Archive view is rather unwieldly), but hopefully it's useful for the visitor.
This whole thing grew with time, and I wouldn't be able to handle it if not for a few tools. Just in case you didn't know them, they are:
XKit: a desktop browser plugin that brings a set of little fantastic "quality of life" tools to Tumblr. The ones I use the most are:
Quick Tags, where I have a lot of tagging presets. Most of times, adjusting them is just a matter of deleting some tags in the result of its application (for example, when a fan art post isn't about SWTOR, I just delete that tag), which is fast to do.
Tumblr media
And One-Click Postage: it has the Reblog button bring up this little panel that can produce a reblog, a scheduled one or a draft at the click of one of those bottom buttons. The beauty of it is that it can auto-tag with the original post's tags and the name of the original blogger (which is great if one is doing a reblogs drafts spree while idly scrolling the site and wants to later remember what they were about, for when the time comes to tidy them up and reblog them). That, or let you add the tags from the very Quick Tags list, either at that moment or while editing them.
Tumblr media
They are a lifesaver. The thing is, there are several XKit variants around, each with a different level of feature parity and compatibility, but they can coexist. I'm mostly using @new-xkit-extension for classic editor posts and reblogs, and XKit-Rewritten for the new editor ones.
And speaking of lifesavers: given the poor state of Tumblr's blog maintenance tools, every time an artist changes their blog's name or I discover a better way to tag old posts and reblogs, the idea of having to edit a lot of them becomes quite dreadful. There is, though, this tool: tags.circumfluo.us. Basically, a web application that offers tag search-and-substitute functions (including replacing sequences of tags, say, find A B C and replace with A D C keeping that order).
Tumblr media
One must be a little careful when the list of posts exceeds certain amount, as Tumblr has some daily limits for this kind of post modifications (at worst, you can find out that it didn't manage to process all of them and that you can't post any more for the day, but you could do it again another day to process the ones left). It is great for massaging the way one has tagged things into shape.
So, I'd say just tag things in a way that feels usable to you 🙂. Consistency doesn't have to be perfect, although these tools make it far easier, and you can always readjust things later with tools like that webpage.
And again, thanks for the praise. I really love it when people find this thingy of mine both useful and usable.

Readmore use it!
I am begging people to use readmore. If someone post a fic and it’s longer than a handful of paragraphs, or 1k words at most though usually even then It just looks to long 9 time out of 10 I ignore it because it’s to long for me to stand rebloging. I hate long posts  sorry.
You can do it on mobile it’s supper easy.
you need to start a new fresh line and then type
(:readmore:)
without the parentheses () and press enter and it will give you this
Tumblr media
which shows as the Keep Reading link when you post. If it doesn’t give you that, you’ve done something wrong. I know if there is something like a space already on the line it won’t work. which is usually what messes me up since I copy and paste my fics in.

For the folks who may not be aware of this, there is a browser extension for tumblr called XKit and it will change your life - or at least your tumblr experience. Easy to download, easy to customize, easy to tweak.  I can’t recommend it enough.
Get it here.

Those in the tumblr know...
Especially given Recent Events, I would love to expand my use of tumblr. But at the moment my follow-list is nicely sized (i.e. I can just about keep up with it most of the time) and if I expand usage, it will rapidly get unmanageable. Are there any tools I could use to group the blogs I follow and look at them separately? Like lists for twitter or similar?

Saw your blue checkmark post! It's not a real fix, but you can make the checkmarks disappear temporarily (they'll reappear if you refresh the page so you'd have to do this again). Oh and this'll only work for desktop.
idk what web browser you're using but:
Right click
Click inspect
That'll open up web dev tools. Along the top bar of web dev tools, look for a little icon that has a box with a cursor/mouse over it. Click that, it'll let you select elements on the page
Find a post with blue checkmarks and click on the checkmark, that'll take you to the part in the html with the checkmark (it'll have the <use> tag)
Above the <use> tag, there's the <svg> tag, and above that there'll be a <span>. Find the <span> that's outside of this one. It'll have class="cpwNM" on it. Click it!
This will put the dev tools on the element that is containing all of the checkboxes that user has. On the "Styles" tab of the web dev tools, you'll see .cpwNM. One of the styles under cpwNM is display: inline-flex. Click on the inline-flex part.
Change inline-flex to none, so that the whole line reads display: none
Now all checkmarks on this post and other posts should be gone!!!
(ps. I promise I don't regularly use Edge as a browser, Firefox was crashing out of nowhere.)
I tried to test this in a couple scenarios, and it seemed to always work for me, hopefully it works for you!
OMG THANK YOU!!! YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!

Hey did you know that if you try to click in the #fandom racism tag, it takes you back to the search tab. And if you try from there, the #fandom racism tag doesn't appear?
Tumblr media
Excuse the spanish but what the FUCK. Also for it to be like near??? With the purity culture tag and the fandom discourse. Considering how the word discourse is now conflated with wank, a word I also dislike.
Like I know tumblr is racist, but how is this a thing. Really, Im curios.

Poison list
While it's important to approach writing with creativity and imagination, it's crucial to prioritize responsible and ethical storytelling. That being said, if you're looking for information on poisons for the purpose of writing fiction, it's essential to handle the subject matter with care and accuracy. Here is a list of some common poisons that you can use in your stories:
Hemlock: Hemlock is a highly poisonous plant that has been used as a poison in various works of literature. It can cause paralysis and respiratory failure.
Arsenic: Arsenic is a toxic element that has been historically used as a poison. It can be lethal in high doses and can cause symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and organ failure.
Cyanide: Cyanide is a fast-acting poison that affects the body's ability to use oxygen. It can cause rapid loss of consciousness and cardiac arrest.
Nightshade: Nightshade plants, such as Belladonna or Deadly Nightshade, contain toxic compounds that can cause hallucinations, respiratory distress, blurred vision, dizziness, an increased heart rate, and even death when ingested.
Ricin: Ricin is a potent poison derived from the castor bean plant. It can cause organ failure and has been used as a plot device in various fictional works.
Strychnine: Strychnine is a highly toxic alkaloid that affects the nervous system, leading to muscle spasms, convulsions, and respiratory failure.
Snake Venom: Various snake venoms can be used in fiction as deadly poisons. Different snake species have different types of venom, each with its own effects on the body.
Digitalis: Digitalis, derived from the foxglove plant, contains cardiac glycosides. It has been historically used to treat heart conditions, but in high doses, it can be toxic. Overdosing on digitalis can cause irregular heart rhythms, nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances.
Lead: Lead poisoning, often resulting from the ingestion or inhalation of lead-based substances, has been a concern throughout history. Lead is a heavy metal that can affect the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, cognitive impairment, anemia, and developmental issues, particularly in children.
Mercury: Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that has been used in various forms throughout history. Ingesting or inhaling mercury vapors can lead to mercury poisoning, causing symptoms like neurological impairment, kidney damage, respiratory issues, and gastrointestinal problems.
Aconite: Also known as Wolfsbane or Monkshood, aconite is a highly toxic plant. Its roots and leaves contain aconitine alkaloids, which can affect the heart and nervous system. Ingesting aconite can lead to symptoms like numbness, tingling, paralysis, cardiac arrhythmias, and respiratory failure.
Thallium: Thallium is a toxic heavy metal that can cause severe poisoning. It has been used as a poison due to its tastelessness and ability to mimic other substances. Thallium poisoning can lead to symptoms like hair loss, neurological issues, gastrointestinal disturbances, and damage to the kidneys and liver.
When incorporating poisons into your writing, it is essential to research and accurately portray the effects and symptoms associated with them. Additionally, be mindful of the potential impact your writing may have on readers and the importance of providing appropriate context and warnings if necessary.

hey so tumblr just added this thing (community labels) and by default ALL these category filters are set to remove anything labelled with these from your feed entirely (not just blurred).
Please remember to go into your settings and adjust them to what you prefer! if you're under 18, you won't be able to adjust them as they are set to Hide until you turn 18
this is what it looks like in settings (i have everything set to Show, the default is Hidden)

Is there some kind of tool to see how active your followers are or give ranges of how long ago any of them posted anything?
I'm just curious, cause I technically have over 700, but there's only about 10 of y'all I ever get notes from. I'm betting a decent chunk of the rest are either old school bots or folks who forgot about Tumblr 5-10 years ago. But of course I have no idea.
