Taking It In (Spencer Reid x British Fem!Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: Thank you so much for the request! This is a bit of a team effort because I’m a bit more knowledgeable about British culture (in no means an expert, I just had a hyperfixation on the Beatles and Doctor Who in middle school/ high school lmao) but Mod Angel is usually the one who writes for fem!readers. Also, we’re both American so we hope this is what you wanted! Sorry for the little wait - Mod Ghost
We also just binged season 2 of Heartstopper and tried our best to pick up on some of the language because we thought this was a really cute idea and wanted to write it as best we could! - Mod Angel

“Coffee? I thought that people from the UK drank tea?” Spencer piped up from behind as his girlfriend was pouring coffee into one of the paper cups she’d found around the canteen.
“It heavily depends on who you’re talking to, Spencer. I feel you should know just as well as I do that everyone’s different. You didn’t profile me as soon as we started dating?” Y/N joked, to which he looked puzzled.
“Wha–no, I usually try to keep my job separate from…personal relations.” He replied sheepishly, starting to mix up his own mug of coffee.
“That changed when we started dating, didn’t it, love?” She teased him, patting his shoulder.
It made him blush and stutter like mad, his hands waving around as he tried to scramble to find something to say. It was rare to see him speechless, but she couldn’t help but to smirk as she watched him struggle. It only lasted a few more seconds before she cut him off, reaching out and gently touching his hand.
“It’s alright, I was just being cheeky, that’s all. C’mon, let’s go back to workin’ on the case, okay?” She chuckled, leading him away from the counter with the hand that wasn’t holding her coffee resting at the small of his back as they walked.
“I knew that!” He squealed in his own defense, which made her giggle loudly.
*
A few weeks later, the BAU were out to dinner, taking a small break while in the middle of a case. Though, it wasn’t much of a break, considering they were still talking about the profile.
Spencer pointed to a plate in the middle of the table. “Can I have a chip?”
A confused silence fell over the table as they all looked in his direction. Spencer stared back at them, an eyebrow raised in his own confusion.
“What?” Spencer asked finally, breaking the silence.
“What did you just say?” JJ responded with a smirk, raising an eyebrow at him.
“I asked if you could pass me a chip” he answered, pointing to the plate again.
“Where do you see chips?” Hotch chimed in, concerned for his mental stability.
Still confused, Spencer pointed to the plate again.
“The fries?” Penelope clarified, gesturing to the same plate finally.
“Oh.” He nodded awkwardly. “Yeah, can you pass me a fry?”
“You’re really spending too much time with that girlfriend of yours, aren’t you?” Morgan teased, grinning and playfully nudging his shoulder.
He smiled and shrugged. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said in a faux-English accent as he finally got the ‘chip’ he wanted as the rest of the table laughed.
“Speaking of Y/N, where is she tonight?? I miss that girl.” Garcia complained from the other side of the table,
“Oh, she went out with one of her mates–” Spencer started before Prentiss cut him off from where she was sat next to him,
“Mates??” She asked incredulously, seconds away from giggling as he groaned and leaned back in his chair.
“FRIENDS! Her friends.” he grumbled, finishing his food and making a mental note to not only tell but blame his girlfriend, Y/N, for everything he’d been through tonight. Not before giving her a kiss, though. The fact that she wasn’t here just made him realize how much he missed her, and it made him wonder if there was a correlation between missing her and talking like her.
The girls dropped him off at home a few hours later, where the first thing he said when he saw Y/N was ‘this is your fault’.
“Do you…want to elaborate on that or…?”
“Later.” Was all he said before he was hugging her and burying his head in her shoulder.
She tugged him close, feeling him start breathing deeply against her shoulder as if he was falling asleep and tapped him to wake him up a bit so she could start leading him to their room. “Come along, darling, let’s get you into bed. You seem tired.”
“I know that they’re fries but you say chips…it’s cute…” he mumbled as he walked, only adding to the confusion but she chalked it up to him being tired from a long day and let it go for now as she tucked him in with a smile at how cute he was.

Drunk and not in love- Part 2
Patri Guijarro x reader
Part one
Alexia makes it her mission to make you and Patri get along, hoping a game night will fix everything
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Ever since your night out together, it became clear to everyone that nothing about your and Patri’s relationship had changed. The anger between the two of you was constantly present, becoming harder and harder for your teammates to ignore. You still played well together during games but that was the extent of your cooperation- something that bothered your captain greatly.
Alexia had approached you many times in hopes of figuring out the root of your issues but never seemed to make any progress. She felt like she had tried everything at this point. If she tried to force you to work together, pairing you up for drills at training, you’d be so busy correcting each other that you didn’t make any progress. When she’d pull you both into an office to talk things through with her, it’d end up becoming a screaming match. After all this, when she’d talk to you both individually, neither of you seemed to have a reason for your hatred, blaming the other and claiming to defend yourself.
Your captain figured that since neither of you had an actual reason for your dislike for one another, that somehow she’d be able to get the two of you to realize it and get along. Somewhere during this process, she had taken the responsibility on herself to make you be civil. She had gone from regular captain duties of trying to keep peace within her team, to fully making it her mission to break through to you both. And everyone who knew Alexia, knew that once she set her mind to something, she wouldn’t stop until she made it happen.
Alexia knew she had to start small, not pushing either of you too hard, hoping you could gradually become closer as time went on. If you realized what she was doing, you’d push back even harder and her attempts would backfire. This was why she decided to start with some extra full-team bonding. That way you’d both have to be there but there’d be plenty of others around to dilute the tension between you.
It was after training, about two weeks after your night out with Patri, that Alexia announced a mandatory game night at her house. “Everyone’s coming, I’ll have drinks, and everyone has to participate.” She announced it with conviction, making direct eye contact with you in order to make sure her point was clear- you couldn’t get out of it.
“Capi’s letting us drink?” Alexia let out a chuckle at the suspicious look Cata was throwing her way, knowing that it was unusual.
“Si, I know if I’m forcing you to come, I have to at least make it enjoyable.” At this, everyone seemed to agree, and started making their way out, ready to get changed before going to Alexia’s.
You and Claudia spent your ride home together, conversing about the day, just as you always did- gossiping and speculating about all your friends and teammates. “Why do you think Ale is having us all over tonight? Doesn’t that seem weird to you?”
Claudia looked at you briefly as she drove, a look of confusion on her face, “what do you mean, it’s team bonding.”
“Yeah but since when does she host mandatory bonding at her house? Usually if she’s hosting anything she wants as few people as possible in her space, so why suddenly would she want the entire team there?”
“You think too hard. Maybe she just finally realized we aren’t as annoying as she thought.”
You rolled your eyes at your best friend’s attempt at a joke, “Yeah for some reason I really don’t think that’s it.” The two of you giggled at the thought, knowing Alexia always had a soft spot for your antics, even if she pretended that you drove her crazy. Your conversation steered towards the trouble the two of you had gotten into at training that day, thanks to you both attacking your captain with your water bottles.
~
  When you arrived at Alexia’s that night, about half the team was there, seemingly forced into a game of UNO with Alexia. As you walked in, you saw them all sat around her kitchen table, most of them shooting you looks of annoyance as you tried not to laugh. Patri was sitting directly next to Alexia, chin resting on her fist, clearly not enjoying the game, similar to how the rest of the table looked. Mapi was next to her, mouthing the words “help me” as soon as you made eye contact, and Cata was downing her glass of wine.
Realizing the entire table had been forced into the card game, you let out a laugh and made your way to sit on the other side of Alexia. “Ale, why are you playing UNO? I didn’t realize game night meant children’s game night.”
The blonde looked at you, clearly offended by your statement as everyone else tried to keep from snickering. They knew you were the only one that Alexia would tolerate the teasing from. “It is a classic! And just for that, I’m making you play. Give me your cards, we’re starting over so these two can get in on it.” Your captain waved her hands at everyone, motioning them to give her their remaining cards, while they groaned in annoyance. You didn’t even notice Patri chuckling at the fact that you had been forced to join their misery.
While Alexia shuffled the cards, everyone made sure to top off their drinks, including you. At this point, it was the only hope you all had for making it through Alexia’s family game night together. By the time you had all returned to the table, she had dealt new cards to everyone and more of your teammates had arrived, all settling around you, extremely entertained by your forced “fun.”
You went around the table once, before realizing the position you were in. Your spot was directly next to Alexia, so you held all the power to destroy her in this game. You sat up a bit straighter and tried to hide your smirk, becoming slightly more enthusiastic about the game you were playing. The second it was your turn again, you cockily layed down a +2. The whole table laughed at the dirty look Alexia gave you, suddenly betrayed by her favorite of the younger team members. “Sorry Ale, it’s the only card I had.” You gave her a shrug as she rolled your eyes at you, seeing right through your facade.
On the other side of Alexia was Patri, trying to hide her smile as she now took her turn. She wasn’t willing to admit it like the others were, but your attack on your captain made her laugh.
After everyone else had gone and it was your turn once again, you realized how lucky you had gotten, having yet another playable card that would piss off the blonde sitting next to you. Struggling to keep a straight face, you set a skip card down in the middle of the table.
“En serio!? What did I do to you!?” Alexia was definitely getting annoyed at you but even more so at the way all your teammates laughed at the way you were targeting her.
At this point, the entire team had arrived and were gathered around, keeping everyone’s drinks full and encouraging you all to be ruthless to each other. You gave another shrug, this time making eye contact with Patri who gave you a nod, encouraging you to continue on. The smirk plastered on her face told you just how much she was enjoying what you were doing.
Unfortunately for you, before it reached you again, Ingrid had played a reverse, making you powerless against your captain but even worse, she could now do anything to you. Your face dropped, suddenly worried about the payback Alexia would be preparing for you. Somewhere during this game, you all had become much more invested and you weren’t ready to go down without a fight.
When it reached Patri’s turn, she looked to you with a smug smile before playing a +4, directed at Alexia. The card made everyone’s jaw drop- Alexia’s in anger, yours in shock that Patri was willing to join you in your scheming against your captain. The blonde aggressively started drawing cards, mumbling to herself in angry Spanish as she did so, while you and Patri shared a high five above her. Some of your teammates shared looks of concern, not sure how to react towards the two of you working together all of the sudden.
As the game went on, you and Patri continued to be ruthless towards Alexia. It wasn’t even entirely directed at your captain- you were willing to make anyone draw some extra cards, but either way the pair of you were ready to work together to take down the others. As much as you were able, you were trying to help each other out while simultaneously pissing off everyone else. It seemed to work out when suddenly you put down your last card, effectively winning the game.
You stood up to celebrate your win, while the entire rest of the table groaned in annoyance. Although one person at the table didn’t join in the annoyance- Patri immediately stood up to join you, basically tackling you in a hug as you cheered.
You were both a bit tipsy which made you louder than anyone wanted to hear as you continued to cheer for yourselves. “In your face, Alexia!”
“How’s it feel to lose at your own game, hmm?” Patri grabbed her drink, passing you yours in the process, holding it up to do a mini toast with you. “To beating Capi!” The two of you continued to yell and jump around, really taking advantage of the rare opportunity to beat Alexia.
It seemed as though yet again, alcohol had worked at bringing the two of you together. That, and the opportunity to team up against the others. The entire night, the two of you continued drinking and continued to drive everyone else crazy. Every game you played, you’d end up conspiring against your teammates, doing anything you could to win together.
It didn’t make sense to anyone. They had seen you get close before when you were drinking but it was weird that you were still willing to do so with the whole team around you to witness it.
But none of this bothered you. If teaming up with Patri was what it took to win, you were willing to do it without a second thought. What you didn’t quite realize was that it was becoming more than that. As you sat on the floor playing FIFA with her, you were leaning into her, resting your head on her at times. When you took a break to watch the others, she sat with her arm around your shoulders.
Nobody could understand what they were watching. It clearly was more than your shared competitiveness, there was something more to it- something nobody could figure out, especially not you or Patri.
After a while, the night had turned into more of the drinking games you had all expected when some of the older (and more responsible) team members had called it a night. It was like the rest of you reverted back to high school, sitting in someone’s basement, getting wasted and playing ridiculous games. Somehow Alexia was all for it, probably just because you and Patri were getting along and she wasn’t going to be the one to ruin it, no matter how childishly you were all behaving.
All of you sat on the floor in a circle as Claudia started a game of truth or dare, clearly up to no good. You still sat pressed against Patri’s side, her arm around your shoulders and your head resting against hers. Surprisingly, the game had been kept somewhat tame, maybe because it was late and you were all starting to get tired, maybe because your captain was sitting in the circle with you, preventing you from doing anything too crazy.
Of course it was your best friend who decided to really ramp things up. She looked at you with a devious smile, “(y/n), truth or dare?”
Too drunk to really think it through, you chose dare even though it was clear that would be the wrong choice.
“I dare… you and Patri to go spend five minutes in the other room together.” she giggled, clearly proud of the idea she had come up with while everyone else sat frozen, scared for what your reaction might be. Nobody was ready for the way you smiled back at her, quickly hopping up and reaching for Patri’s hand to pull her up with you. She beamed back at you, not really thinking about how weird this was for both of you. Your hands remained intertwined as you pulled her into Alexia’s guest bedroom and shut the door behind you.
All the girls in the living room remained silent, Claudia’s jaw still on the floor in shock that her idea had worked. It was Mapi who finally spoke, voice full of hesitancy, “what do we think they’re doing in there?” She paused, “they wouldn’t… kill each other. Right?”
“No it wouldn’t be so quiet if they were murdering each other,” Alexia smacked her on the back of the head as Cata speculated out loud.
“Maybe they’re confessing their love for each other,” Claudia giggled, just as she always did, not taking the situation nearly as seriously as the others. When everyone looked at her in confusion, she just doubled down on her theory. “I’m just saying, every time they’re drunk they’re all over each other, clearly there’s something going on there.” She shrugged as if it were the most obvious thing in the world while everyone else just worked to figure it all out.
Meanwhile, the second the door had shut, you wrapped your arms around Patri’s waist, pulling her in for a hug. You rested your head against her chest, suddenly comforted by her presence. You were always clingy with your friends when you were drunk but it was only ever with your friends, not people you weren’t close with, and certainly not with people you hated. The older woman planted a kiss on the top of your head and continued to hold you before you mumbled something into her chest.
“Que?”
You pulled your head up slightly, making eye contact as you spoke quietly, “Isn’t this so much more fun than fighting?”
“Mmm, I don’t know about that,” she smirked at you as she spoke, clearly teasing you. It was then that you realized how little space was between you. Suddenly your senses were overflowing with her- Patri- your sworn enemy. But now you could see the specs of gold in her eyes, and the smell of her perfume radiating off her as her strong arms still held you close.
The midfielder must have had the same realization as her smirk dropped, taking in every detail of your face. It was hard to miss the way her eyes dropped to look at your lips, subconsciously licking her own. Your breath had quickened slightly, excited about whatever was happening between you, just as Patri made eye contact once again.
When you made no effort to back away, she finally moved in, kissing you softly. Your hand moved to the back of her neck, deepening the kiss as you pulled her closer.
It was like your lips were made for each other- moving perfectly in sync and just the right pace. Your fingers played with the hairs that had fallen from the bottom of her ponytail, both of you completely satisfied with the current situation. The older woman’s tongue traced your bottom lip, asking for permission to go further, something you were gladly willing to grant her, humming quietly as she did so.
At the sound of your voice, Patri pulled away, both of you breathing hard, trying to catch your breath. “Are you really gonna let them hear what’s going on in here?” she wore a smirk on her face, knowing you both didn’t want your teammates knowing about this. You rolled your eyes at how cocky she was, but she cut you off before you could say anything. “Staying quiet was never your strong suit was it?” Her smirk had turned into a full smile, enjoying teasing you once again.
What she wasn’t expecting was the way you leaned in close to her again, pressing your lips against her jaw, just below her ear, “why don’t you do something about it then?” Her eyebrows shot up in surprise at how seductively you were whispering in her ear. The way she froze made you giggle and pull away, entertained by the effect you were having on her.
When you calmed your giggles, Patri just looked at you silently and placed her hands on your cheeks, staring into your eyes. Suddenly you were both much more serious than ever before as you stood in each other’s presence. “You kissed me.” You were basically whispering as you began to process what had just happened.
“You kissed me back,” she shrugged slightly, not quite sure what you were getting at.
“Yeah and I’m not gonna apologize for it.” Your voice was barely audible as you brought yourself closer, ghosting over her lips once again.
“Why is your stupid face just so kissable?” she muttered in response before kissing you hard, harder than before. Patri’s strong hands had found your waist, pulling you as close as possible as your tongues moved together with ease.
All your friends in the living room were still sitting, mostly silent, shocked by the way they still hadn’t heard from you. Some of the girls had gotten bored and went home so it was now just Alexia, Mapi, Ingrid, and Claudia. After Alexia had stopped Claudia from pressing her ear against the door to listen to what was going on, they all just sat in silence, thinking about what could possibly be happening. When the five minutes had passed and you were still yet to emerge, they really couldn’t figure out what to make of the situation.
“Do you think we should like, check on them, or something?” Mapi couldn’t have been more confused by the situation, not knowing how to handle it at all.
But Alexia just shook her head, “I think we should leave them, if they’re finally talking it out, we shouldn’t interrupt it. Maybe after ten minutes if we still don’t hear anything?”
Everyone seemed to agree, returning to their thoughts in the newfound quiet.
You and Patri separated once again, needing to catch your breath, pressing your foreheads together as you did so. “We should probably go back out there, you know.” you breathed to her as her thumb rubbed soft circles against your hip and her other hand intertwined with yours.
She responded with a nod, still slowing her breath before speaking, “Let’s just clarify- I still don’t like you.”
“You’re holding my hand.”
“That’s- different.”
You couldn’t quite tell what she was getting at. Was she being serious? Teasing you again? Clarifying the story before you went back out to your friends? You assumed it must have been sarcasm though your mind filled with doubt. Even though you didn’t know what to make of it, you didn’t know if you cared. Whatever you had with Patri was fun. It was light hearted, and it was exactly what you needed in that moment. If it resulted in some more secret makeouts in the future, you weren’t about to fight it. You gave her a quick nod before you stepped apart, straightening out your hair before opening the door to rejoin your friends.
All eyes were on the two of you as you entered the room, expecting an explanation of what had gone on. You both sat down in the circle, leaving space between you now, hyper aware of what had just happened.
“So…?” Patri just shrugged in response to Mapi’s questioning, not wanting to tell everyone about your last ten minutes. After another moment of awkward silence, Alexia tried her best to change the subject but the air was still thick with tension, causing you to eventually decide on calling it a night and ordering an Uber for you and Claudia.
It was obvious what everyone wanted to talk about but you and Patri just couldn’t do it. You didn’t fully understand it yourselves, how were you supposed to tell your teammates you just made out in the room next to them after hating each other for years?
When your Uber arrived, even Claudia knew not to push you. You obviously were somewhat lost in your head, still drunk, still confused by Patri’s comments. The drive home was uncomfortably quiet, something extremely rare for you and your best friend, but she knew you needed the time to think.
 Your thoughts were only interrupted when your phone lit up with a text. You didn’t notice how your face lit up upon reading the name at the top, but dropped just as quickly when you read the message.

Monsters walk at night (Monster!Price x f!reader)
Another one for @glitterypirateduck Price writing challenge!
Scenarios used, 16. ‘A Pursuit takes place’ and 44. 'A world where mates exist':
Warnings: monster fucking, NSFW, unprotected p in v, partial smut, literally getting chased down.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It started off as an innocent walk through the woods by the large cabin Price had rented, (seemed more like a house when you saw it), stating you all needed a break. He had distributed the rooms when you all had arrived, securing the perimeter and making sure the security cameras and alarm system worked. You remember the day clearly.
The fridge was fully stocked as were the bathrooms, all the amenities needed for a few days stay away from civilization. You walked into the kitchen getting ready to make some food, the drive there was long and you were absolutely starving. “What are ye plannin ta make and can I have some because I am famished.” You turned to find Johnny strolling into the kitchen. “Well I wasn’t offering to make dinner just looking for a snack, but it’d be a shame to have the cabin burn down.” Johnny groans from the table, “It was one time bonnie! Was nae like I was plannin on burnin the place up!” “Johnny you set the place ablaze tryin to make CUP OF SOUP!” “I was tired!”
Price walked in shaking his head as Ghost and Gaz came in behind him chuckling. Simon piped up, “So you makin food or not?” You roll your eyes, “I’ll make a steaming pile of dog shit just for you Ghost.” “Make sure it has garlic and potatoes, yeah?” After dinner was decided on, (not dog shit), everyone settled in for the night with the exception of you and John. “Fancy a walk luv? There are lights on the trails.” You think about it for a minute and nod, “Sure. Seems like a nice night, gotta walk off that meal too.” You both chuckle and walk outside, the night warm so there was no need for jackets.
You both had been walking for about 20 minutes, the scenery beautiful and calming, making small talk as the scent of Price’s cigar smoke wafts around in the night air. The light from the cigars burning tip gave Price’s already attractive features a boost, almost making him look scary in the dark of the woods. “You know, I could use a bit more exercise. Up for a chase?” You look at him confused as he takes a hit from his cigar and blows the smoke upwards, the red embers showing in his eyes.
He leans closer as you take a step back, his eyes gleaming, his teeth seeming sharper. “Run.” That was all you needed as you took off into the trees. You don’t know how long you ran before you finally heard his boots hitting the ground behind you. He was far but not by much, the sound of his boots thudding loudly, almost like he was heavier now. You had briefly stopped behind a large rock but continued when you heard his voice ring through the forest, loud and strange. “Run all you want sweetheart. I can smell you from a mile away.”
You had barely made it to a clearing when you were tackled from behind. You managed to turn over, finding Price but he looked different. Horns protruded from his head, a spiked tail swaying behind him, teeth razor sharp and eyes glowing like the flames of hell. “Caught you darling. Smelled you the second you started running. Getting chased down turn you on?” You blushed, turning your head away. Sure you had always found Price attractive, you knew he wasn’t totally human, and maybe you had some disrespectfully spicy dreams about him, so who could blame you for being turned on.
He nudged your cheek before moving to your neck, inhaling your scent. “My mate.” “What?” “You’re my mate luv. Smelled it the second you walked onto base.” “ O-oh, um I-“ “Do you accept? I may be a monster but I’m not an asshole. I’ve seen your dreams, heard your whispers.” “This isn’t a joke right? Because…I love you, have for a while and if this is some weird or cruel joke just so you can get laid it’s not funny.”
His eyes widened, stunned. “You think so low of me? That I would make a joke of something so serious?” You shake your head no and he sighs in relief. Nuzzling into your neck, he licks and groans as he tastes your flesh mixed with sweat. “Do you accept?” You nod, “Words, dearest.” “I accept.” A rumble forms in his chest as you kiss him and you both begin to undress. You had felt the bulge of him rubbing against your thigh through the talk and it had you needy.
To say he was large was an understatement as you openly stared at the size of him. “It’ll fit fine luv, no worries.” You nodded hesitantly, “Please be gentle.” He kisses you to smooth your nerves as he slowly pushes in, catching all your pretty noises in his mouth. “That’s it darling. You were made to take me.” He was only half way in but you already felt so full of him but he continued to slip inside unhindered. When his hips finally connected with your’s he left out a drawn out moan into the night air and pulled back slowly. “I hope you’re ready sweetheart, because it’s about to be a long night.” Running a hand over the obvious bulge in your skin, you clench and that’s enough to get him started.
The night is spent surrounded by the sound of his hips meeting your’s, breathy moans, the name of your captain loud on your lips and hands firmly gripping his horns for the ride. He didn’t let up until the sun had almost broken the horizon, both of you spent and newly mated.
Breathe Me Out, Drink You In
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: After the wedding, you and Sam find each other alone in the dressing room and again in the bathroom of your wedding night suite.
Warnings: Sam x Reader smut, Unprotected sex, Semi public, Blowjob, Sex in bath, all the fluff during rough sex
Words: 4.5K
No Y/N Used
Title is from ‘Telomeres’ by Sleep Token
Tumblr media
Sam had the eyes that I would wake up to every morning for the rest of my life.
I could tell; feel it. Somethings people simply know. And I knew. As ridiculous as that sounded, I knew how it sounded, it was true.
The first time I saw him, it took my friend yanking on my arm to get me to look away. After I answered her, I looked back at him, and his eyes, ever blue and unblinking, still held my body.
I went home with him that night, and it wasn't a secret for anyone. He kicked out his roommates who were there at that club and their sparkling eyes and jeering smiles were the last memory I had before I got that blond alone.
He woke up first and brushed my hair and kissed me awake. I didn't leave for two days.
I also don't remember the last time I had sex that much in two days. It was enough to almost ask my therapist if my addictions swapped up for a weekend.
I didn't leave until his sleepy looking roommate—the one with the dark hair and leather jackets—came home not caring what he ran into or heard because he simply wanted to sleep in his own bed. I couldn't blame him. I wondered how much he ripped into Sam, after I left, for having to hear us through their shared walls.
For such a large house, I was caught off guard that their bedrooms shared walls.
Now it made sense. They wanted to be as close as possible to each other without actually sharing a bed at night.
It took fourteen months for Sam to propose to me. Then he told me he spent the past seven trying to convince Colby.
Our lives mended easily. For as big of YouTube channels they both had and shared, I was completely shocked that I didn't know who they were. They didn't know me, but I too made a living making silly videos.
“Out of everyone, though,” Colby eventually pulled me aside at our engagement party two months ago, “I'm not surprised he chose you. I mean; you're both made for each other. In what other world would it feel right for a couple to get engaged seven months after meeting?”
Seven months after meeting.
That was how I knew Colby knew that I was the one for his best friend; he agreed the first time Sam asked, but he didn't want to lose him. He didn't want to lose him to the possibility of being heart broken.
It was clear as day, now, to all of us; our entire friend group.
I was theirs, they were mine.
And Sam and I were one.
“Literally-Literally—no really—I told her that—” Sam broke into laughter as the music drowned his words. I smiled and tried to keep down my own laughs as much as possible from the recognition of the story he told. His arm hung around my neck with a drink in his hand. While he was distracted in conversation, I sipped from it. Tara gave me a look. “So I told her that—I was like ‘Yeah no, no we’re getting married in May, you know,’” Sam’s voice was soft as he remembered the words I listened to him tell that one Hotel manager. God, he was so awkward in that moment I was surprised his face didn’t flare pink.
”And she gave me a look and looked her up and down and tells her that she wasn’t the one girl we’ve brought there.” At that point I burst out laughing. I remembered the hotel; it wasn’t even a hotel that gave us enough substance or evidence so we fucked around during the entire video.
I still get hate for not being serious enough in that video.
”And I look at her, apparently shocked, and before I say anything she goes ‘You see a lot of things working at hotels for as long as I have-‘ I cut her off laughing and she’s just glaring at me, I go ‘Oh you mean that one blonde and brunette? That’s literally Kris and Celina our best friends from Canada.’ And I’m not joking, right at that moment, Colby’s coming back from grabbing shit and doesn’t see her and says ‘Alright babes, ready to find ghost pussy?’” Sam takes a step back, and my best friend who tood across from me burst out laughing; the friend next to her dropped her jaw.
”To be clear,” I laughed. “It was almost three am by that point, we had two energy drinks, and from our first investigation, we knew there wasn’t jack shit there so it was like moral support for us to not start breaking down sobbing.”
”Oh my god!” Our friend cried as she sucked literal tears in. “That’s why she gave us such weird looks when we checked in!” Tears actually fell by now. My best friend and a couple other girls also stayed at the hotel a week after me, Sam and Colby stayed, and they booked the same room under the boys’ names since it was in the middle of a chain of investigations we did together. It was easier for them to book all the rooms under their names, and the girls and I booked all the flights.
”Dude, there is no way I’m going back,” I sobbed. “It was too funny.”
”I’m so embarrassed,” Sam gasped through laughter. “Like what does she think—“
”I know,” my best friend cried.
Our voices were roughened by the alcohol and the sheer decibel we had to shout over the music and other heightened conversations. We were outside; the sun set halfway behind the ocean horizon and shot orange stripes across the once blue sky.
It was the night before our wedding.
Instead of individual bachelor/bachelorette parties, we combined our weddings parties and went out. This was a lounge we went to once before, and we talked about it for months and months after. It was a phenomenal night. Of course we chose this place for this special moment.
Sam didn’t leave my side all night.
I tried my hardest to not look at him because if I did, I would never look away and then it would escalate into things our best friends would be traumatized seeing.
“I love you,” he said later in the night when the strand lights that encompassed the ever large pergola outside the lounge we danced under. “God, I love you so much it scares me.” I nodded. I didn’t move other than the tiny movements we made; we stopped dancing completely regardless of the loud music and other busybodies around us.
“I know,” I hummed. My arms rested around his neck. He caved towards the drag of my thumb on his skin. “Love you too, so much.” My voice fell into a whisper.
The next time I saw him, it was at the altar.
I told him I wanted him to wear white too because he was just as much mine as I was his. We were married in the garden of a hotel downtown; the reception inside opulent but simple and blended with the art deco chandeliers and plush green carpets. Other than the room, there really was no color in our wedding.
Everyone wore white. My bridesmaids’ dresses were a-line slip in champagne and the groomsmen wore off white suits with minimal black accents; the only thing that separated Sam and I. We didn't wear anything other than white.
After, when the adrenaline settled and the taste of Sam's committal kiss still on my lips, we stood upstairs. We took photos outside before we shared a flute of champagne privately.
“Alright, reception is in 10.” I remember Colby telling us as he ushered the rest of the wedding party out. A wave of nervousness hit my stomach when he led them all out. My best friend gave me a look and I swore my face burned.
As the door closed, Sam moved into my vision. He looked at me without saying a word. My ears rang in the silence; I figured that his did too. Then, his hand reached up and held my face. I basked in his gaze as his eyes raced all over me.
He kissed me sweetly. I hummed as I tasted the same champagne in his cool mouth, and I took him deeper and deeper until his body flushed with mine.
”Sam,” I moaned quietly. His mouth raced down my neck and my hand tangled in his hair. I pulled him back since much was on my mind.
“I haven’t been able to-to basically worship you all day. You look unbelievable, you think I’m not going to take this time to touch you?”
“Sam—“ I gasped his name when he rushed me and pinned me against the wall with a kiss. Melted into it, my hands wrapped around his neck, and he pried his hips in between my legs. ”Oh my god,” I gasped when I realized what he wanted; what we were about to do. “We have ten minutes.”
”And you haven’t been wanting me to touch you for the past two hours?” My face heated.
That was what those explicit messages he sent me while I got ready with my bridesmaids were for.
”Hurry,” I whispered, and so he did.
One of my legs was over his elbow as he finished tugging at his pants.
“Oh my fucking god—“ His whisper rushed out fast as his fingers navigated my underwear—the lingerie I planned for him to tear off later, not now—and shoved his fingers into the warmth he created.
”No-No,” I moaned as his fingers filled me over and over. “Just get inside me.”
He didn’t fight it. Something about our precarious situation and lack of time added fire under my skin; I liked when he listened to what I demanded of him. Of course it was only in these situations.
“Fuck me,” I whispered with a tone that was entirely too sweet for the vulgar words. “Holy shit—” He held my neck, thumb hooked under my chin, as his other hand left an imprint in my hip.
“Yeah?” He was so quiet that I hardly heard him, and it left my legs so weak I was grateful he held me up. “I'm going to cum in you and then we're going to party with our friends at the reception and my cum is going to stay there making a mess between your legs and you're not going to clean it up, right?”
“Fuck—Yes,” I gasped so entirely quietly and meekly that I had to close my eyes. I almost passed out. With a louder moan, he leaned against me and placed kisses on my neck.
“Touch yourself-Touch yourself for me, make yourself cum with me,” he whispered in my hair. I shoved a hand in between us and made myself see stars with him. “Yeah,” he laughed when my legs gave out. He fucked into me harder to keep me up against the wall.
“Going to,” I cried.
“Yeah?” He teased; his voice raised in a breathy question and he stood back up again. Our noses almost touched he was so close. “Better cum so hard around me; make me cum, make me fill you.”
He was right there.
My eyes were closed; tears burned my eyes. I wondered if one fell because his thumb wiped under my eye.
“Know you want it, don't you? I know you want me inside you out there. I know you love thinking about my cum dripping down your legs in front of everyone. Love feeling me inside of you all the ti—”
My orgasm grabbed me by the throat and pushed me against the wall.
“Oh shit—” he moaned loudly as his body lurched forward into mine. God, he was right. I loved it. I also loved that my body could demand his orgasm from him at my will.
He moaned my name as he finished our climaxes and held himself against the wall as well.
We caught our breaths; his forehead rested on mine.
“Come on, my love,” he gasped breathlessly. Then he kissed me slowly as he gently pulled out of me and let my leg down. I stumbled into him but did not pull away from his mouth.
I thought about his taste as we walked hand in hand downstairs where we were announced into the reception.
The night was a blur.
Between kisses, dances, tears, and drinks, I forgot most of the night. I knew I was happier than I ever had been, and with Sam’s hand in mine, it was enough for me.
Until we were alone.
I remembered my arms coiled around his. I remembered leaving kisses across his face and neck. It took everything in his power to keep his hands on the wheel as my hands roamed his body.
Finally.
It was like my senses came to me the moment the door closed, and we were alone in our silent hotel suite.
My heart raced as his hands brushed my hair over my shoulder. I looked down at the loose waves as his fingers undid my dress. Every brush of his fingers down the skin of back sent waves of chills across my skin. I swallowed tightly. When my dress was loose enough, I stepped out of it and he lightly tossed it back; draped over the chair for us to deal with later.
Then I turned and faced him. His eyes hazed with need, and I grabbed his neck and kissed him tightly. He hummed into my mouth, and I drank in every noise he made.
I couldn’t resist. My fingers went for the buttons of his clothes, and he sighed a breath of contentment and tipped his head back in pleasure. His hands never left my body as I unbuttoned his jacket and tossed it to my dress. Then I worked on his button up and it slipped to the floor leaving him only in his pants.
He only had an inch on me—at least—with these shoes on, and I had to admit, I liked it. But then he dove down to his knees.
“Sam,” I gasped. My hand tangled in his hair. I didn’t care that his hair was sweaty and warm, and his body even more so. We were both disgusting by now. After the long day we had of covering our bodies with our thick clothes, sweat, kisses, and arousals, of course it wasn’t perfect. Of course we weren’t clean. But what did it matter?
And that was when my heart skipped beats.
I looked down, and Sam stared up at me darkly as his hands moved down my legs to unclamp my shoes. The image of my body standing in front of him—hardly covered in the ivory lingerie—while he kissed my skin and untied my shoes almost took both of my knees out.
When my shoes were with his a few feet away from us, he kissed up my body and paused at my thighs. He still was on his knees, and I was sure I held onto his hair so I wouldn’t fall over.
”Oh my god—“ he gasped.
To be honest, it was disgusting. I felt gross and my lingerie was nasty by now, but heat flooded my body when his fingers trailed the remnants of his cum that had slipped down my skin during the reception.
“Sam,” I repeated his name. What other words did I know? I moaned as his tongue replaced his fingers and finally, he pulled the lace to the side. “Fuck—“ I gasped when his mouth moved up and up until it tasted my arousal. “Please.” I stumbled. “I-I can’t—“
”I know,” he sighed after he selfishly stole a few more seconds of tasting me. Then he stood up. “God, I love you.” He kissed me. “I love you, love you,” and he kissed me again. It took everything in my power to let him go.
My stomach fell from its place when he walked to the bath and ran the hot water.
I walked over to him. My hand raced over his back. He stood up to me, kissed me.
“Okay,” he sighed. “Get in, I’ll get us drinks.”
”I-I mean, okay, but I’m still wearing—“
”Get in,” he gently doubled down. His smile fell slowly, eyes darkened. My thumb popped from the lace around my body I held onto.
I got in.
My hair draped over the back of the tub to keep it from getting wet for now. As the water filled, bubbles brother up around me. I have never sat in a bath with clothes on before; maybe this was just lingerie, but it felt odd. My body heated when I imagined Sam taking off the lace soaking wet lace. I watched as the water covered my body inch by inch.
When Sam came back into the bathroom, he placed the drinks down. My eyes weren’t on anything except him. He turned to me, and before he could do anything else, I rose to my knees. He sucked in a harsh breath when my fingers grabbed him by his belt.
He gasped my name and his hand brushed into my hair. Thankfully he didn’t stop me; I was pushed sick with waiting for him. I pulled his pants and underwear away—just enough for easy access—and looked up at him. He stared down at me with glossy eyes.
I took him in my mouth without looking away from him.
But he looked away from me; eyes closed with pleasure and head tipped back. I moaned around him and he stumbled forward.
”Oh my god, baby, let me in with you.” I hummed again, and this time his fingers yanked on the roots of my hair. I gasped for air when I came off him. He tore his clothes off the rest of the way and got in with me.
Immediately, I moved over to him and straddled him.
I kissed him before he could do anything else. His hands raced up my slick legs and invaded the lace around my hips. Our moans mixed as I grinded down on him; his hands leading my motions. The water was already hot and the heat that ignited under my skin didn’t help.
I was long past aching for him.
I needed him more than I needed to breathe, to see.
With a shaking breath, he moved the lace to the side and I sank down on him. His head tipped back and I kissed down his neck; the vibrations of his moans against my lips made me move my hips faster and faster.
His hand linked under my jaw and our breaths mixed between open mouthed kissed.
”You feel so good,” I whispered. He smiled. “It’s kinda counterintuitive for you to put me in the bath just to make me all dirty again,” I said.
“Then let me clean you,” he said, and I still drank down his words, his breath. He leaned over and unzipped my bag, and from the bag inside of it, he grabbed my bottle of body wash.
He left it on the floor for a moment. He turned back to me.
I gasped when he pushed me back and I was empty again. He sat up and forced me to sit on my knees on either side of his legs. I watched as my fingertips snaked up his arms; the water once hot turned cool under my touch, and chills ran through me at the feeling of his skin under my hands.
Then I noticed the way his eyes ravaged my body. Fingers slipped under the bottom of my lingerie and he took one glance at my eyes before he unclasped the lace behind me. His lips left warmth and kisses and bites on my skin.
My breath was taken from me when the lace slipped off me completely. It hung over the side of the tub.
”Sam,” I gasped, and he moaned as he kissed down my neck and tasted every part of me. My hands tangled in his hair as his lips traveled down and down; he left red and purple bruises over the curves of my chest. I wondered if he tasted the quickened beats of my heart.
He pulled away to grab the soap. I watched as he poured some in his fingers.
I couldn’t help it.
His hands were so incredibly soft and slippery over my skin as they washed me. He washed every part of my body, and after, his hands slipped back over my chest.
I sank down on him again.
”Fuck,” he gasped quietly. I thrusted myself up and down, and I didn’t care if the water moved more, if it splashed where it shouldn’t.
”Oh shit,” I moaned, and my moans increased as his mouth replaced his hands. I knew my skin was bitter with soap, but he still tasted me and sucked on my skin until I was flushed. The electricity of his tongue and mouth over my nipple shot straight down in between us, and it didn’t matter we were submerged under water anymore; I was so wet he nearly slipped out of me.
“Yeah like that, oh my god—“ he moaned when I quickened my pace.
”Need you,” I gasped. My legs were too fatigued for me to do much more; there was no traction in the tub, and I slowly lost strength.
He lifted me up.
“Sam—“ I cried when he forced me around. My eyes met the only light in the room; the orange glow behind the mirror.
Then my hands grabbed on the edge, and I held myself up as his hands raced down my back, my hips.
He yanked off the soaked lingerie and tossed them aimlessly.
There wasn’t a warning; no more hesitation. I knew that I was so far past the point of foreplay and teasing, and from the force he used on me, I knew he must have been in the same position. One of my knees hung on the ledge while another was still in the water. Sam thrusted into me and grabbed onto my waist so I didn’t slip anywhere.
”Holy shit! Please, oh my god—“ My moans fell incoherent as he finally fucked me like I needed. He too gasped a string of moans, and his nails dug into the slick skin of my sides.
“God you’re so perfect,” he groaned. “Always take me so well.”
”Sam, please.”
“Please what?”
”I’ve needed you for so long.”
”You’ve had me all day,” he laughed.
”Then fuck me. I need to feel you so hard for days.” He cursed under his breath again. He stood me up and used clean water from the faucet to make sure we were rinsed clean.
”Out,” he said. I rushed out of the tub and grabbed a towel and dried off to not get water everywhere. He haphazardly did the same, but his eyes never left my body; I saw them in the reflection of the mirror.
And then I was shoved against the counter.
“Sam!” I cried and I watched our reflection as he thrusted into me again. He lifted my leg, and my knee rested on the edge of the freezing granite.
“Watch me,” he demanded and my eyes met his in the reflection. “Watch us; watch me give you want you want.”
“Oh shit,” I cried roughly. His fingers gripped the roots of my hair and he yanked to keep me upright. If my world wasn’t rocked in that moment, I would have blushed from the sounds of our bodies colliding and moans bouncing off the walls.
“Sam,” I cried his name until tears formed in my tired eyes. “I’m so close.”
”Then cum for me, my love,” he said gently. “Want you to cum so hard for me.” I gasped and choked on my breath when he grabbed my arm and shoved my hand in between us to lure me closer and closer to my climax.
My knees nearly gave out when it washed over me. He didn’t slow down; he fucked me harder. His hands held up my hips since I clearly forgot how to, and he didn’t give me space to come down after my high.
”Sam! Fuck—please—please! Oh my god, it’s so much—“
He grabbed my throat and yanked me back. His mouth was so close to my face, I felt the warmth.
 “Is it really too much?” His voice was low and sent thick chills across my skin.
”Yes! Need-Need you to cum.”
”Yeah baby? Where do you want me? Inside—“
”In my mouth. Want you to cum down my throat.”
”Fuck,” he gasped and let go of me. “On your knees,” he demanded and I didn’t mind if they were bruised when they met the floor. I looked up at him as he grabbed my hair and thrusted deep into my mouth. The tears finally fell, and as he tried to pull back and lighten his thrusts, I yanked him in and pushed my tongue up against him tighter.
”Holy shit—“ He gasped and his lips parted. I sucked harder, and watched his face twist with pleasure with every movement of my mouth. I knew. I knew him inside and out; I knew what would bring him on my knees for me. So I didn’t go easy.
He moaned my name. I loved that tone; the tone of warning.
”Fuck!” He cried and another moan of my name became sweet music to my ears. “Coming—“
My eyes snapped shut as the first wave of burning tore down my throat. He held onto my hair for dear life as I drank him down, and before his orgasm was even finished, he forced himself out of me. I opened my mouth before I swallowed the rest of his fluid, and as more striped my tongue, the rest slipped out of my mouth and down my cheek.
”Holy shit, holy shit, you fucking—“ Finally, I opened my eyes and he knealt down in front of me. A smile matched with a blush pulled at his face as he wiped his cum from my face with his thumb.
He kissed me regardless of the mess of my face and mouth. I pressed the remnants of his cum into his mouth and he moaned and kissed me deeper, firmer.
He pulled away when air was necessary.
”Come on,” he sighed. “Want to lay down and hold you, love you.”
”So this wasn’t you loving me?” I shot back with a smirk. He rolled his eyes.
”Everything I do with you is out of love, even if it’s fucking you like a slut.”
”Oh, okay that’s good,” I laughed, and he helped me up.
After we cleaned ourselves up, he brought me the forgotten champagne and even if it was lukewarm now, we drank it down and kissed one more time. As he left the bathroom with my hand in his, I stole one last look at myself in the mirror.
Behind me, light drops of water reverberated in the room from my soaked lingerie that hung over the faucet in the tub.
Word Count: 4,321
A/N: A little background on Jake talking to Bob about being his back seater. The reader was originally Jake’s after she finished her practice round (as punishment, for both of them). Then Cyclone called in the only one he felt would be the man for the job, Bob.
- Reader’s unmentioned call sign in Sparrow hence Jake’s Wings nickname
- Javy jokingly told Jake to ask reader about a fwb situation but never thought he’d actually do it
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You never thought you'd ever be asked something as insane as he just did. "I'm sorry, what?"
He throws his head back and takes another shot. "You're acting like no one's asked you this before, Wings."
You clench your jaw, annoyance filling you once more. "I'm not doing this with you." You scoot your chair back.
"I'm sorry."
You pause, "you're sorry?"
"I," he sighs. "I told Coyote this was a stupid idea."
"What was that?" You ask, curious as to what he mumbled.
"Would it be so bad to sleep with me?"
"Yeah. I don't want to catch anything," you say with a snarky smile.
He doesn't find it as funny. "You know that's not true."
"Is it though?"
"Just because I may sleep with a few different women when we're off, doesn't mean I'm not careful."
"Yeah," you reach for his drink, taking it for yourself. "I'll believe it when I see it." "Do you want to do this or not?"
"Why me?"
"What?"
"Why did Coyote suggest you ask me? No, better question, why did you agree to ask me?"
He's quiet.
"I mean, did you think I'd be easy or something?"
He realizes just how badly this has already begun and he needs to stop it before it gets worse. "I've got to stop you right there because that's not- that isn't,” he sighs.
“How about we start with, why you want to “fraternize” with coworkers?”
He shrugs.
You raise a brow before the corner of your lips twitch upwards. “Do you like me, Hangman? You wanna see me in a whole new light, perhaps.”
He shakes his head, letting out a huffing chuckle. “I’m glad to see you’re enjoying this.”
“Oh, I am. I see it now. You want to sleep with me because... you’re desperate, none of your usual hookers are available and you’re stressed.”
"Okay, they're not hookers. They were... nice women who-"
"In other words, they were horny."
He huffs, "you gonna let me talk or not?"
You raise your hands and scoot back into your seat.
"I think it'd be beneficial for us to do this kind of thing. Like you said, I'm stressed, and I know you are too. This line of work isn't the easiest."
You gasp, "you're joking. I thought it was so easy."
"See, that- that attitude right there I would love to-"
You pause, licking your teeth. "You've thought about this before. You're a dirty, dirty man."
"Hey now-"
You shrug, "I don't blame you. I've overheard girls talking about you. Really makes a girl think."
"So?"
"If we're going to do this, we're going to need to establish some boundaries... or rules, I should say."
"So- so we're doing this?" He was not expecting it to be this easy.
You nod, "you make a valid point and I need something to help me take care of my stress."
"I think I'm going to need another shot."
"Go order us another round while I think of some rules."
He doesn't need to be told twice as he walks towards the bar, easily calling Penny over.
You shake your head before grabbing a napkin and jotting a couple of things down.
Jake doesn't pay attention to any of the few women practically throwing these onto him.
It surprises Pete and Penny when they see him, shrug these ladies off and away from him... until he walks back towards you with a smile on his face.
-
Penny glances over at her boyfriend with a raised brow. "That's not going to end well."
"Maybe."
"You're really trying to argue with me."
"No."
"You are."
"I- no."
"Go take these to your kids."
"They're not mine."
"They might as well be."
-
“What are you writing there, Wings?”
You glance up at him, moving your arm to hide what you’ve written. “Not much, just... jotting down a couple of things.”
He sets your usual order to the side, (unknowingly, he subconsciously) wants all your attention he can get.
“A few rules, mainly. We can add more once we, you know, start this.”
“You sound so excited.”
You roll your eyes. “Don’t give me attitude. You know we should have some rules, even if one of us doesn’t always want to follow them.”
“Oh, now you want to bring up our past. Well, what about the time when-”
You push yourself off the stool and cover his mouth. “Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. God you’re a child, licking my hand, really?”
He shrugs.
“I’m going to remove my hand. I want to hear nothing from you, you jerk.”
He nods.
“These are a few basic things I felt were necessary to get out there.”
“Makes sense to me.”
Rule #1: No discussing the deal with those who aren’t either of the pertaining parties
“So, you’re looking exceptionally glowy this morning.”
You shake your head, not giving into what your most trusted pilot friend (only female friend) and ally’s comment. “Glowy?” You ask, sitting on the bench as you tie your shoes.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about and don’t even pretend like you don’t. You’re not a very good liar.”
You snort. ‘If only you knew, Nat.’
“Okay.” You grab your bag and head out for the day.
“Is it that guy you told me about the other day?”
“Which one? I’ve been a little... out there lately.”
She doesn’t raise a brow, knowing you’re testing the waters, trying to find someone who’s benefits worthy before trying to settle down.
“What guy?” You sigh and turn around to find the devil.
“Bagman,” Natasha groans before yanking you with her. “We’re leaving. Go bother someone else. I want to enjoy the rest of my Thursday.”
“Too bad. I hear gossip and what is a guy supposed to do, other than listen and enjoy of course.”
Javy walks up behind the blond. “Have you seen him since?”
You turn to narrow your eyes at the two of them, praying to all and any god listening, to make sure neither of them talk about this.
Jake’s smirk only widens.
You regret starting this with him.
“Was he any good?”
That question gets her to stop. “What?”
She grimaces, “why would you want to know that Bagman? You not getting enough of your own, you need to ask others for their night out, so you have something to get off too?”
He’s quick to react, “what no! What’s wrong with you?!”
“Me?! You’re the one asking if the guy she slept with was any good and you’re getting pissed as me?”
He struggles to give a well-timed response and the two of you walk away.
Rule #2: No sleeping with other people (that includes dating)
“Sorry, darlin’ but I’m afraid I can’t tonight.” He easily turns her down, something he hasn’t done... ever.
“What? Why not?” She leans in closer as if that would persuade him into changing his mind. “Am I not pretty enough?”
“Oh no, you are. I just- uh- I’m too busy.”
“I saw the girl you came in with. She’s the one you always talk about, right?”
He says nothing.
“She’s the one you always come to me about. She’s the reason you’re always so stressed, remember?” She tugs at the collar of his shirt.
He reaches up and gingerly removes her hand from him.
She pouts. “Is she finally giving you some attention or something?”
He nods, “or something. So, even though you were, I say again, great. I can’t. I have to get back before she comes over, searching for me. I think I’ve let her drink melt enough tonight.”
She rolls her eyes, “whatever.”
He smirks as he turns around, walking away. He’s never felt this much satisfaction rejecting a girl before. ‘Is this why you did?’ He reaches beside you to give you your drink.
“Here you go, Wings.”
“Must you continue with that god awful nickname?” You ask, silently hoping he doesn’t stop. It’s special.
“It’s my humanly duty.”
You click your tongue against the roof of your mouth, “see I don’t think it is, in your mind maybe.”
He takes a sip of his drink. “Who was that guy that swooped in, not even a minute after I left to go to the bar?”
“No one important.”
“You sure? It looked like he was trying to do more than talk to you.”
“He was, which is why I turned him down.” You avoid eye contact and take big gulps of your drink, staring out the window watching the sunset and the ocean waves crashing.
Jake takes this opportunity to stare at you, wondering how someone like yourself would ever want to be in a “friend” with benefits situation with him.
He can’t lie and say he’s not happy that you agreed to it, because he is. Oh, he is.
But there’s another thought that comes to mind.
You could easily find someone else to relieve your stress, he knows you can so why change that now?
You look down at your phone when it vibrates against the table. You open it and find a text from that one guy you went to the bar with months ago.
BarGuy
“Hey. You in town?” 7:33pm Sent Read
You glance up, checking to see where Jake’s attention is.
He’s chatting with Javy, who must’ve come when you were too into your thoughts.
SparrowBird
“Nope. I don’t think I’ll be back in town for a while. Sorry” 7:45pm Sent Read
After that you decide to turn off your phone, making a mental note to delete his number.
He was a genuinely nice guy but the more you... hangout with Jake, the more you get to know him.
“You two down for a round of pool?”
You chuckle, “if you mean, are you two ready to get your asses handed to you by a woman. Let’s play, Coyote.”
Javy eyes follow you as you walk towards the pool tables. “That’s the girl you want?”
Jake’s offended. “What does that mean?”
“She’s scary.”
A hearty chuckle escapes him. “What?”
“She’s got that crazy look in her eye. I think she plans on killing me.”
“Now, who’s dramatic?”
He pats his buddy’s shoulder before walking away. “Still you, man.”
Rule #3: No having sex without protection
One minute you’re in the air, the next you’re being berated for not doing what you felt was unnecessary and going against orders.
You were so annoyed and then as soon as you stepped through the locker room door, you knew what was going to happen tonight. “What are you doing here?”
He shrugs, “I thought you might want a little… company tonight. I know, it was intense today.”
You roll your eyes and walk down the hallway, Jake on your tail. “I’m not talking about this with you.”
“You don’t have to talk, Wings. I mean, you’re already going to be a mess underneath me for the first part-”
You grab the collar of his flight suit and slam his back into the nearest wall.
He barely flinches.
You lean in, “could you have said that any louder?”
There’s that stupid smirk again.
“I can scream it if you want me to?”
You let him go and stomp down the hallway, heading back to your place.
-
Bob swerves around the corner, catching your body exiting the door before it closes. He glances between the door and an unkempt Jake.
The smirk falls from his face when he notices Bob. “What are you looking at Baby on Board?”
He shakes his head, “nothing. You ready to go in the air?”
“As if you need to ask.”
He regretted it as soon as the question was asked.
Jake wraps his arm around the other man’s shoulders. “Let me give you a few pointers on being my back seater.”
“I’d rather not.”
“Too bad.”
-
He called you as soon as he left, teasing you… in a non-Jake way. “I got your favorite.”
You furrow your brows and not because the characters on the tv show you’re watching are doing some interesting things for a comedy show. “My favorites?”
“Yep. Favorite dinner, drink, and desert plus some whip cream which could be used later.”
“You’re just trying to persuade your way into my pants.”
“I’ve already been there but I’d like to visit again.”
“God, you’re annoying.”
“Which makes the sex better.”
You roll your eyes. “Are you almost here?”
“Just pulled in, sweetheart.”
‘That’s a new one,’ you think.
After dinner you two sit down and finish the season of your most recent binge.
You don’t remember who started it, but you wound up in your bedroom and you pulled away from him.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, this- this is good, but it’d be even better if I knew you had protection.”
“Protection?”
You blink once. “Don’t tell me you’re seriously this dumb.”
He looks offended but you don’t focus on that and continue talking.
“I’m not talking about protection to save us from a bear attack, Seresin. I’m talking about the more important protection, you know, like a condom. We’ve been over this before.”
The corner of his mouth curls. “What’s got you in such a mood?”
“As if you don’t know?” You’re tired of the games he’s been playing with you since earlier this morning, at work no less.
Your annoyance rises as you think about how easily he teases you in front of everyone, almost like he wants them to find out. But this is the only thing you’ve been looking forward to since your “talk” with Vice Admiral Cyclone.
You get tired of trying to unbutton his shirt and rip it off.
“You got something or not?”
He glances between you and his, now destroyed, shirt. “I do.”
“Good, I have some of my own so we’re both fine.” He pulls off the rest of his shirt before reaching down for your own, pulling it up to your chest. He leans down, kissing along your neck before moving down to, as you say (the next morning), attack you.
“I don’t need you to take your time.” You grab him by his neck, holding so you’re a mere few inches apart, “it’s sweet but I need you and I need you now.”
“I like what you’re telling me to sweetheart.”
There it is again.
Rule #4 No kissing
You close your eyes, head tilting back.
As much as you hate to admit it, it feels so good… and you don’t want him to know. Jake has a big enough ego; he doesn’t need anything else to expand that.
He knows it’s good, that he’s good; he’s holding back so he doesn’t let go too early. He wants to make this last, unlike the other times you’ve been together or any other woman he’s been with.
Your grip tightens on the sheets, trying your best to not lift your hands and scratch him.
God knows there doesn’t need to be anymore “talk” in the locker rooms. No marks, no more talks; it’s as simple as that.
He doesn’t try to slow down or stop (when does he). His pace is relentless.
You shiver when his lips move up against your neck, you don’t mind it though even if both of you agreed to this being a rule.
Maybe you’re getting soft or maybe you’re giving in to the feelings you’ve been denying for so long. You can’t think too much into it as your body is moved closer to him, your hands slip onto his biceps.
He lifts your lower half higher so you’re resting on his lap and begins nipping at your jawline.
Your nails slowly dig into the skin of his biceps, he doesn’t mind.
He pecks your check and then corner of your mouth.
You let out a shuddered breath, stomach twitching at the sensation in your lower body and his intimate gesture.
He lifts his head off you, studying your expression, wanting to see how close you are. He can’t help it and leans down, capturing your lips with his.
You’re quick to fall into a rhythm with him.
You know there’s no turning back, you’ve gone too far, you’re in too deep.
No matter how many rules you two made, it was doomed from the start.
There was always something between the two of you no matter how much you tried to deny it.
Rule #5 No falling for each other
“Would it kill you stop looking at your phone like that?”
Jake’s head snaps up. “What?”
His friend clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth. “You’ve been staring at your phone over the last few minutes.”
“And?”
“You look like a sad puppy whenever you check the notifications and find that she hasn’t responded.”
“No, I don’t.”
“You do. Next time you do, I’ll take a photo.”
“Coyote-”
The man shakes his head. “Nope, don’t even try. You won’t win.”
He rolls his eyes. “I hate you sometimes.”
“No, you don’t.”
This gets the blonds mind thinking.
Could he really be becoming a different person because he has actual feeling you? Is that why he gets, well like this, now?
He shakes his head, he couldn’t have feelings for you, right?
Javy turns around to find his friend gone, he purses his lips because he knows the main reason why Jake left but did, he really have to leave him on his own?
They drove to the bar together and he needs a wingman tonight.
-
You open the door, “hi.”
“Hey.”
“What made you come over? I thought you had plans with your boyfriend tonight?”
He doesn’t join in on the chuckling.
“Okay, you usually laugh when I joke about Coyote, what happened? Are you okay?”
He nods. “Yeah. I’m fine. Just-” Missed you is what he truly wants to say. “I was a little stressed after this afternoon.”
You nod your head, “I kind of figured you would be. It wasn’t easy today.”
And then you two wound up in your bedroom.
He stares at you, like he did earlier when you walked through the door at base this morning but… something’s changed since then.
Have you always looked this serene even while his hips snap against yours over and over again?
How did he not realize that you're the one he wants to go out with and take on the most magical and memorable dates?
Is this what Javy has been implying this whole time?
He begs you to open your eyes, but you don't hear him. "Sweetheart," he takes a deep breath, not wanting to let you know how good he's feeling (now that he knows what he feels for you) because if he does, he'll moan.
"Open your eyes. I need to see you... fall apart for me,” he adds in normal Jake fashion. “Do it for me,” and then he says something he’s never done before and calls you by your first name.
You struggle to open your eyes and bite your bottom lip, close to sucking it in so a witty comeback doesn’t escape you and ruin the mood.
"There she is," he smiles, leaning in. His eyes trail over your face, memorizing every blemish spot, acne scarring, and anything else you may see as an imperfection that he's going to forever classify as absolutely beautiful.
The look in his eyes is much different than previous times. It's like, he's seeing you for the first time.
You can feel the change coursing through your body (and not just because he's slowing his pace, wanting to draw this out).
He hovers over you for a minute and then leans in closer to your face, his eyes travel over every part of it he can. He's trying to see if it's okay for him to do this and finds no objections, dare he say, you're even leaning up and meeting him halfway.
Neither of you can think about how you're breaking rule number four and five, as you kiss him until you can't anymore.
You two barely part, breathing the other in as you catch your breath.
It just became more than a friend with benefits situation, and it’s become more complicated than it should have, which led to your blowup.
You lay side by side, staring at the ceiling trying to comprehend what happened and what this means.
He turns to his side, watching you, something he’s never done before. “You, okay?”
“Yep.”
“Doesn’t sound like it. Usually there’s a little more heat to you.”
“Maybe I don’t have any more heat.”
“Like I’d believe that.”
“Why don’t you just go home?”
His brows knit together in confusion. “Woah. What just happened?”
“What do you mean? I’m just helping you get out of here faster. I mean, you’re already out the door by now. Why take your time tonight?”
“I’m not leaving until you talk to me, and I don’t care how long that takes.”
“Well, I do.” You push yourself out of your bed and throw on the top you were grabbing your underwear and bottoms. “You need to get out.” You turn around and find him sitting up, watching you.
“Okay, I hear, and I will, but can I just ask one thing?”
“What?” You snap at him.
“Why are you trying to throw me out of here so bad?”
“What?”
“I don’t have any other plans tonight; in fact, I ditched Javy so I could come see you.”
“Am I supposed to be grateful?”
“I’m not saying that.”
“Sounds like it.”
“Would you stop trying to push me away?”
“I’m not trying to push anyone away. I think,” you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose. “I think this was a mistake.”
“What? Our deal?”
You run a hand through your hair, avoiding eye contact. “Yeah, I do.”
He gets out of bed, grabbing his boxers. “I don’t believe you.”
“Yeah, and I don’t care whether you do or not.”
“You care more than you want to admit.”
“Why do you keep saying that? As if- as if there’s more to us than there really is,” you say, voice cracking with emotion.
“Because I know something’s changed. For you and for me.”
You shake your head.
“It’s true,” he reaches for you, hands on either. “I’ll be the first out of the two of us to admit that I broke one of our rules.”
You don't even know how to respond.
"I broke the one rule we created because we already knew we were doomed."
"Which one?"
"One of the important ones, especially with what we do. You remember the conference we had not too long ago about how being in a relationship with your coworker isn't a good idea because of all the drama that can come with it."
It takes you a minute to realize what he's talking about and once you do, you let out a quiet, "oh."
"Yeah, that one. I can't stop thinking about you, you know?"
"Really?"
"Always, never stopped. Even when we supposedly hated each other. You were still there, lingering and that's why I knew it should be you I ask."
"Is that what made you come up with this idea?"
"Not at first. It was kind of Coyote’s idea.”
“He knows?!”
“No,” he shakes his head. “No, no one does... but he and Bob might suspect something’s up.”
“What?!”
“Hey, hey,” he pulls you close. “They’re not going to say anything unless we tell them to. You know Bob and I vouch for Coyote. And they know better than to mess with my girl.”
You pull back, “your girl?”
“I thought we went through this already?”
You pretend to think about it before shaking your head, “nope, pretty sure we didn’t.”
“Alright, fine. Would you do me the honor of being the one I get to call mine?”
You shrug, “I guess.”
“Oh, that’s how we’re going to play this.”
“Yeah, whatch’ you going to do about it, stud?”
“Throw you back into that bed and show you.” You smile before launching yourself at him. “Take me away... or go home.”
He moves his hands from your thighs and slides them closer to your behind. “I’m starting to think you like my punishments.”
“Me? Never, what makes you say that?”
He smiles, shaking his head and gently sets you down letting you crawl wherever you think you can.
-
Natasha turns her head, curious as to what she saw from the corner of her eye. “Did you get attacked by a suckerfish?” She asks, with a smirk.
You shake your head, “if only you knew.”
-
“Damn, Hangman. You wind up in bed with a werewolf?” Reuben asks.
“It was brat night.”
A few of the others start snickering.
-
You two see each other from afar, he winks, and you smile.
Bradley, Mickey, Reuben, and Natasha are losing their minds.
No one sees but Javy slides a twenty over to Bob. “It’s always the quiet ones.”
Bob smirks and slips it into his pocket.
It’s been a hot sec since I’ve been on tumblr (grad school man, it’s nuts) but I’ve been watching a lot of dimension 20 lately and it’s got me thinking about Eddie running something similar.
Eddie runs a dnd group with some friends, occasionally some guests join in, it’s reasonably popular. But everyone’s favorite thing he does is the livestreams - and not just because the games are always a little more intense when they’re live but because there is always a chance of Steve popping up.
Steve becomes something of an easter egg on the channel. He originally just showed up in the background once in a while during videos, the camera always cutting away from him quickly though. People started collecting clips and speculating on who he was. A manager? A friend? The person who makes the minis?
Eventually Eddie gets asked during a personal livestream about the guy in the background and he just laughs. “You talking about my Stevie? Yeah, he shows up a lot but considering we share an apartment that makes sense. He likes to make snacks because he finds dnd boring.” Not even a second later chat is flooded with more questions that Eddie just grins at and tells them to wait. Half and hour later the door can be heard opening in the background and Eddie pushes back from his desk a little bit, rolling his chair enough that he can lean his head back and look at something with a smile. “Hey, sugar. Everybody’s asking about you.” Muffled talking can be heard, the words unable to be picked up but the laugh is audible. Eddie laughs back and fully spins his chair to face something else. “You gonna come say hello or what?” The laugh is heard again before the man - Stevie, as Eddie had said - appears in the doorway and sits down right on Eddie’s lap. Everyone can see as Eddie slides forward in his chair enough for Steve to wrap his legs around his hips. As Eddie rolls back over to his desk they all see Steve wrapping his arms around Eddie’s neck and settling into him completely. They watch as Eddie presses kisses to the side of his face to the sound of giggles before Steve turns enough to get a proper kiss before hiding his face away again.
Eddie ends the stream shortly after that when he glances down at Steve and smiles softly. “Alright gang, looks like I’m wrapping it up early today. Stevie’s asleep and I don’t want to wake him. Don’t forget we start a new campaign this Friday 6pm central time. See y’all then.”
From that moment on Steve is a fan favorite and they beg to see him any chance they can - seeing Eddie switch from sadistic DM to lovesick boyfriend is a highlight of any livestream. It eventually gets to a point where they set up a wide camera that they can switch to if Steve shows up so he can say hi while he passes out whatever food he had made or asks Eddie a whispered question.
Eddie likes to joke that his fans like Steve more than him - but he never blames them.
warning: bad BAD writing, angst but then it’s fluff, blood, almost dying experience, octavian’s still alive, cursing, post Blood of Olympus
a/n: hello! this is my first request and i wanted to post it before the other stuff i’m working on (especially cause i can’t finish any of the shit i’m working on). this is kind of fast paced but don’t blame me, it’s 12am in brazil right now so.. yea. also, i kinda diverted from the whole hurt in quest thing, i’m sorry! i didn’t have enough ideas for a whole quest. but i hope you enjoy! oh and this is placed after the first book of TOA
⛧° 。 ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆༺♱༻⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ 。°⛧
Sure, a heartbreak did hurt. But have you been stabbed by Imperial Gold? Dude. Brotha.
Sure, it was a normal thing for you to argue with Octavian. Hell, it was. normal thing for everyone who’s sane to do. This scrawny boy was just… a piece of shit. Yeah. And the worst part? You’re related. He’s one of the “legacies”, whatever that is. That stupid roman dipshit.
And today was no different. You two were arguing about some trivial shit, as always, but things escalated quickly. Soon you two were sparring (how was a mystery, since you didn’t even know that thing knew how to hold a sword) and it was quite fun.
You see, you got to camp Half-Blood when you were just seven. Since then you’ve been trained all year, since you didn’t have any other family - besides the godly side of it, duh - and Octavian was… well, Octavian. You were much better than him.
The whole problem is that Octavian likes to play dirty. So eventually he makes you trip and fall and he leaves gashes around your arms and legs. But with imperial gold it was sort of painful.
Till one of those times came again, but this time he didn’t leave a gash or a scratch. He stabbed you right in your stomach.
“Oh, gods!” He said, with fake concern. “I’m so sorry, cousin! My bad. I should go looking for your boyfriend, right? But… i didn’t see nothing. Bye!” The blond said with a devilish grin and left.
You knew you needed help. You were applying pressure to the wound, trying to use your healing powers to at least slow down the bleeding.
You tried to get up to look for help, but it was almost impossible. Even with that, you had to. ‘Oh, come on,’ you thought, ‘i’ve faced Kronos, Gaea and Annabeth mad at me. I’m not gonna die for a stupid legacy.’
And that’s exactly what made you move your body towards the via principalis, where you knew someone was gonna help you.
When you got there, the first person you saw was - thanks the gods -, Reyna. When the praetor looked at you, her face was horrified.
“y/n? What-“ She began, but you cut her off.
“I-i’ll explain later. Just… medical cabin. Please.” You begged, your words barely above a whisper.
Reyna nodded and helped you lean on her for support, as she walked you towards the medical cabin. You didn’t know the name of the boy who was currently there, but he looked as horrified as Reyna.
“Oh gods. Oh, my gods.” The boy said and you smiled, trying to fight back the urge to pass out.
“Ha, thanks. I thought it was bad.” You half joked as Reyna and the unkown boy put you on a vacant stretcher. When you were laid down, you looked up at Reyna with pleading eyes. “Bring Jason here, please?”
“Of course. I’ll go find him. The brunette said and left the medical cabin.
“Ok. uh… care to tell what happened with you?” The boy asked and you turned your gaze back to him.
“Got stabbed by imperial gold. What’s your name?” She asked, but the look in the boy’s face didn’t seemed to register the question.
“My gods… i’ll do my best to help you.” He said and grabbed a bottle of nectar, pouring it to your mouth. “Ok, i need to-“
Before he could finish, a certain blonde boy barges past the doors, looking around the medical cabin, desperately trying to find you.
When his gaze fell into you, he rushed to your side, grabbing your hand. His eyes were glossy behind his glasses and she knew he already wanted to cry.
“Y/n, what…? What happened? Are you okay? Who did this?” He asked, and she tried to laugh, but the pain was becoming unbearable. You couldn’t even talk anymore, as the only thing that came out of your mouth was a whiny breath. “It’s okay, i’m here with you, hm? I won’t leave.”
He kissed your forehead and you squeezed his hand softly just before you felt a tear fall in your cheek. That was the last thing you heard or saw before passing out.
⛧° 。 ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆༺♱༻⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆ 。°⛧
Jason is desperate. He’s beyond worried about you.
He knows what imperial gold does to someone. Gods, he was stabbed by imperial gold before. And if she wasn’t treated in the right way… he didn’t even want to think about it.
But other than that, he needed to know who did this. He was going to kill this person with his bare hands.
It had been two days since you blacked out and you hadn’t woken up yet. He was starting to get even more worried, but he hadn’t left your side for one second. You couldn’t even go back to Camp Half-Blood (obvi), so your closest friends and family came to visit.
Will had cried his eyes out when he saw her there. Nico had to comfort him as his pupils leaked salty water. Lester/Apollo was back from his quest with Meg, and he also came to visit his daughter. The man was very… emotional, let’s say that.
But on the third day you were finally beginning to wake up. Of course, Jason was there.
“Hey, honey… you’re back, hm?” He asked, caressing you hair as you smiled, trying to reassure him. It still hurt as hell, but it could be worse. You could be dead.
“Hey…” She mumbled, her voice a little smudgy. “How long was it out?”
“A few days. But you’re back now, that’s what matters the most.” He said as he gave you a soft kiss on the lips. It was no tongue, just affection. He was showing you he was there for you.
“I feel fine. Like, not fine, but definitely better.” She said, as she pulled away from him.
“Yeah, i imagined. But, baby, i need you to tell me something.” Jason said, still holding your hand softly.
You nodded, waiting for him to elaborate.
“Who did this to you?” He asked, and you felt him squeezing your hand tighter. His voice was also harsher, as if he was restraining himself from killing someone.
“It was… it was Octavian.” She said, in a whisper-like tone. His face hardened immediately as he got up and went to the boy that was standing at the door.
“I need you to call Reyna and Frank. Tell them it’s an emergency.” He said and the boy quickly left.
Jason rushed back to your side. “I swear i’m gonna kill that son of a bitch.” He muttered.
When you were about to answer, Reyna and Frank rushed past the door, both looking worried. Behind Frank, there were a few other people - Will, Nico, Hazel, Annabeth, Piper, Leo and Percy -, all looking worried.
“You’re alive!” Will shouted and rushed to your side, tears welling up his eyes again.
“What, you thought that a little stab was going to kill me? Please.” She scoffed and Will laughed.
“So, who did this?” Reyna asked, also going to your side and stroking your shoulder softly.
“The most stupid, idiotic, son of a bitch augur that we ever had.” Jason said through gritted teeth.
“Octavian did that? I knew he was annoying, but at this level?” Percy asked, his face contorted in a mix of anger and disbelief.
“Mhm. We were sparring but… he likes to play dirty, i guess.”
“I’m gonna murder him.” Will groaned.
“Get in line.” Jason, Percy and Nico said at the same time.
You chuckled a bit, even if it hurt. Cause you knew, with that family right there, everything was gonna be fine.
a/n pt2: so… i like it but i don’t but i do. u get that? yea. i don’t know, i think i could do better, but i kinda liked it. I was going to make octavian’s trial and all but it would be too fucking long, so i gave up. that’s it for today, sorry that it took so long!
-
the sound of your metal club hitting the ball pierced through the quietness of the morning. the skies were still painted hues of orange as the sun was rising as you watched the direction of the ball.
using your foot to roll out another ball in front of you on the grass, you adjusted your stance as you set up. gripping the club as you gave yourself time before swinging back and hitting the white ball.
“nice one!”
turning around to see where the familiar voice was coming from, you smiled as you saw lily. you hadn’t seen her in quite sometime after she left to attend the australian grand prix to support her boyfriend and to play a tournament. “lily!”
you had known lily since childhood having met her at a small tournament. and eventually, what was just being penpals, meeting at tournaments and visiting one another with always the same talks about turning pro had turned into a life long friendship. and, truthful to your dreams, both of you turned pro at the same time and got onto the lpga tour.
“congrats on the t5 finish,” you smiled as you hugged the older girl. “i watched the highlights, you were amazing! how was australia as well?”
“australia was fun, alex bagged a p8 so he was quite happy about that,” she spoke as you two pulled away, going to her clubs which she had put at the bay next to you. “enough talk about me, how about you?”
shaking your head, you shrugged, “same stuff— golf, study, rest, the gym…finals are over now so i might go do something to reward myself.”
“i guess one of us needs to have a university degree,” she joked. you were on your final year of your mechanical engineering degree whilst she had dropped out from her course; though you couldn’t blame her for that as balancing university with being on tour was a difficult feat. “how about the rest?”
“the rest?” you asked, confused as you approached your golf bag, switching the club you were going to use. shortly, it dawned on you what ‘the rest’ meant. “still have no one, lily, you know that.”
“oh come on, (y/n)!” lily rolled her eyes, “please! i have some people that i can introduce you to!”
“lily…” you sighed, “i’m too busy with studying and practice half the time. romance just isn’t really something in the books right now and i haven’t exactly earned one.”
“how are you going to be smart enough to do engineering but dumb enough to believe that you have to earn love,” lily shook her head. “please, just let me introduce you to someone.”
“…and who is this person?”
“you’ll see, just follow me to monaco.”
“what?”
“lily, i hope you’re sure about this…” you mumbled as you two made your way around the paddock, the older girl clearly more familiar. “i feel a little out of place…and everyone else is—”
“quit that nonsense!” she let out a smile, “you look gorgeous! you’ve got the best paddock outfit in my opinion.”
“yeah, thanks for helping me choose an outfit,” you shyly smiled as you walked alongside lily as she showed you the ropes of navigating around a formula 1 paddock.
of course, you were familiar with the sport having been a formula 1 fan since you were young but being inside the paddock was a completely different experience for you. looking at the garages where the mechanics and engineers were hard at work, you adverted your attention to your best friend who had took your hand.
“alex!” she smiled, greeting her boyfriend before saying hi to the rest of the drivers. “oh, and i brought (y/n) with me!”
“oh my god, i’m starting to think you like her more than me! even your dog loves her more than me!” shaking his head, alex rolled his eyes, “how could you,” he playfully slapped his hand against his chest, pretending to be hurt by your invite to the weekend, “she’s literally responsible for ‘albolognese’!”
unable to hold back a laugh, you smiled, “you should take that as a compliment.”
“why?!”
“because the spaghetti was good!”
“the nickname is so bad!”
“no it isn’t!” you justified, “you had red hair and you cooked a really good spaghetti bolognese, calling you ‘albolognese’ is only acceptable.”
looking at his girlfriend hoping she would come into defence, alex let out a groan and a loud ‘come on’ upon seeing her struggle to hold back a laugh upon the interaction between her best friend and boyfriend.
“anyways,” you cleared your throat, still smiling over the dumb joke. “hi everyone, my name’s (y/n), i’m lily’s best friend. nice to meet you guys.”
“oh! you’re (y/n)!” one of the drivers which you recognised as mick could be heard. “lily always talks about you! hi, i’m mick.”
“i hope it’s all good things,” you smiled, glancing at lily who gave a playful smile and shrug. “nice to meet you.”
“mick! maybe you could show (y/n) around!” lily suggested, catching both of you off guard, taking alex's hand. "patrick is probably looking for alex, so we're going to be at the williams garage, see you!"
lily's intent crystal clear to everyone else except mick and you, everyone quickly making excuses to leave so that it was just the both of you as awkwardness settled in.
"uhm..." mick spoke, trying to figure out where to go next, "i could show you around the paddock?"
"yeah, that'd be nice. thank you, mick," you smiled as he took the lead, following behind him as he acted as your guide around the formula 1 paddock where risk met reward.
"you look really pretty- uh- your outfit is really nice," mick complimented, trying to break the awkwardness. but though the main intent of it was so there was less tension, the compliment was no less of genuine.
"thanks, lily helped me choose it," a giggle was let out, as you looked at mick who seemed to ease up as he ran his fingers through his hair.
"that's my car over there," the german spoke as he pointed towards the red car boasting the number '47' on it. "it's my first season with ferrari so i'm quite excited for the race and monaco is practically the crown jewel of formula 1...sorry i'm rambling."
"it's okay," you smiled, "it's the monaco grand prix! i mean, yeah, the track has no mercy and overtaking must be a nightmare but it's monaco. you win here, you're already one of the greats, plus ferrari has been competitive this season."
eyes widening, mick couldn't help but let out a grin, "formula 1 fan?"
"since young," you hummed as you walked next to him, "been a ferrari fan forever!"
as you continued your conversation as the german driver showed you around the paddock as both of you talked about anything from racing to your sports careers to your daily lives, you couldn't help but enjoy his company though having known him for a short time as you took in the sounds of the formula 2 and 3 cars and the smell of fuel and burnt rubber.
"hey, uhm, do you wanna go for dinner after the race on sunday?" mick asked, scratching the back of his neck nervously. "i mean it's fine if you say no-"
"i'd love to," you smiled as you soon exchanged phone numbers and social media handles with each other.
observing you two in secrecy, lily and alex watched as you became comfortable around each other.
a smile spread, "they like each other, definitely," lily sighed contently. "the eyes never lie."
High Infidelity
Pairings: Xavier Thorpe x gn!reader / Xavier Thorpe x Wednesday Addams
Summary: chase two girls, lose The 1
Warnings: cheating, infidelity, Xavier gets slapped. lmk if there are any more
Word Count: 0.8k
Tumblr media
You loved Xavier so much. More than he would ever know. He was the sunshine on your darkest days; the moonlight and the stars in the sky. He was just yours. But that all changed when Wednesday Addams came to Nevermore.
You went to his art shed only to discover that the locks had been changed. You knocked on the door and heard Xavier curse and rush around the small room. A couple minutes later, he unlocked the door and greeted you with messy hair. You noticed how his lips were slightly swollen, but ignored it as he invited you in.
“So, uh, what brings you here, y/n?” Xavier asked, leaning against the doorframe.
“Can’t an Outcast come and see their boyfriend every now and again?” You joked, leaning up to kiss him. He smelt of death, the same scent the new girl smelt of. “I was wondering if you wanted to go to the movies. We could watch that new horror film you want to see so bad.”
“Oh.” He mumbled, looking back. “I, uhm, I’m kind of busy at the moment. Maybe tomorrow?” He asked sheepishly.
“Oh. Yeah, sure.” You nodded. You went to walk away before turning to him. “And how come you changed the locks?”
“Oh, I just have a surprise for our anniversary next month.” Xavier shrugged nonchalantly and your smile dropped slightly.
“Okay, see you.” You waved. “Love you.”
“Fare thee well.” Xavier joked. You waited a second, but the words you wished to hear never came.
It had been like that for a while now. Ever since Wednesday Addams arrived, you became more of a friend than a partner. Long, late night walks became ‘Sorry, Wednesday needs my help.’ He’d let go of your hand whenever he saw Wednesday, wouldn’t say ‘I love you’ back whenever she was in earshot distance. It hurt.
This boy that would once bring you breakfast when you were sick; this boy that would once teach you how to draw simple things under the moonlight, gone. Gone into a fraction of the man he was. This act of high infidelity destroyed you.
Part of you longed for him to tell you the truth, you wanted to hear it from him, not from your peers that had been under the impression that the two of you had broken up. They had seen Xavier’s moves, the ones he made on Wednesday. Your heart broke when everyone came to console you. You had no idea what was going on, having had the flu and being bedridden. Enid, Wednesday’s roommate attacked you with a hug the first time she saw you that week. You awkwardly patted her back in confusion and she broke away to explain. Xavier had been seen kissing Wednesday under the moonlight in your spot.
That was a month ago. You figured that if he really cared, he would’ve tried harder to keep it a secret. He should know, there's many different ways that you can kill the one you love. The slowest way is never loving them enough.
You were left doubting yourself. Did Wednesday have something that you don’t? Were you not as pretty as Wednesday? How could someone so in love with you just fall out of love like that? Did he ever even love you?
“I’m breaking up with you.” Xavier said. The date was April 29th. Your anniversary. He hadn’t shown up for your date and now here he was, breaking you with you. Who the hell does he think he is? “I… i think that you were manipulating me with your siren song and-"
You cut him off by punching his face. “You cheat on me for months and have the audacity to blame me?” You asked in shock, holding your pounding hand. Xavier looked shock. “Oh, you think I don’t know? You think that I don’t know that you kissed Wednesday in our spot under the moonlight? I built that place. I made the handles paintbrushes, not her. I said I love you there, not HER!” You yelled.
“y/n, calm down.” Xavier said quietly, looking at all of the eyes on you.
“Don’t tell me to calm down. I am calm!” You exclaimed. “No, Xavier, I break up with you.” You then said.
“Am I interrupting something?” A monotone voice said, making you jump out of your skin.
Xavier looked distraught and you turned to see Wednesday Addams. “Yes.” You said, turning back to your boyfriend. “I love you. You are my sun and my moon and my stars. I can’t even find it in my heart to hate you.” Tears gathered in your eyes as you spoke your mind. “Did I do something? Am I not pretty enough? Not cool enough?”
“It’s not you, it’s me.” Xavier said. You wanted to call BS, but he continued. “I fell out if love with you and instead of telling you, I lead you on.”
“But why? When?” You had began crying.
“I don’t know.” He admitted. “I just know that when I saw Wednesday, I felt what I felt when we first started dating.”
I didn’t mean to hurt you. But you did. You did, you did.
Enduring
Summary: Spencer's wife gives birth almost as soon as he's back after getting shot in Texas, and he's very grateful.
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader ( fluff mostly)
Content Warning: pregnancy, labor but it's not descriptive,
Word Count: 2.7k
Masterlist Navigation
As soon as Spencer was shot in Texas, Hotch made a rule: no one can tell Y/n. Initially, JJ disagreed vocally. She knew Y/n would call when she woke up in DC, and as much as the thought terrified her, those calls could all go unanswered if he didn't make it.
They both had the mutual, painful experience of having someone they loved in a life-threatening situation and could agree that knowing and not being able to do something was worse than not knowing.
JJ couldn't imagine not being able to be apart of the effort to find Will when he had been shot in the bank, use her profiling skills and then physical combat skill to make sure her family was safe. Hotch also had the experience of a wife on bed rest who struggled to stay resting even when he was safe.
One thing they could all agree on was that Y/n would come to Briscoe county if she knew Spencer was in surgery. Even if Matt Cruz and Penelope had to carry her off the jet because she can't fly, she would drive the twenty-four straight hours to see him.
So Alex and JJ end up in the ER, knees bouncing up and down with nervousness. "I should have been me," Alex confesses, staring down at her hands.
"It could have been any of us." JJ agrees, misreading Alex's blame on herself.
"He pushed me out of the way." She says guiltily. It was eating at her since she pressed so tightly on his wound that she thought it would cause a bruise, hoping to keep enough blood to keep him conscious. "JJ, what if he doesn't make it?"
JJ rests her hand on Alex's thigh. "He'll be okay." She assures her, saying it for herself just as much as she's saying it for Alex. "They're about to have a baby. He'll be fighting for that."
Alex doesn't voice her worries about having to call Y/n and tell her that her husband is dead. Knowing that phone call is coming is probably in the back of Y/n's mind like it is hers, both having husbands with dangerous jobs. Even if it's anticipated, her life will never be the same, and Alex's guilt will never go away.
"You know he told me he doesn't think he's going to be a good enough dad?" Alex recalls their conversation a month prior.
JJ scoffs, shaking her head. "He couldn't be more wrong about that."
"Yeah, that's what I told him." She says. "Have you seen the ultrasound picture in his wallet?"
"Oh, I'm pretty sure he shows everyone that." JJ jokes, both of them chuckling. "And he kisses it every night."
Talking about him being okay eases the tension hospital waiting rooms bring. "He's not just going to be a good dad, he's going to be a great one." She settles.
The waiting seems to blur together as it so often does in situations with very little idleness, and it doesn't feel like a lot of time has passed before his name is called, and Alex is standing to hear his fate.
It's good news, exactly the news she and everyone else was hoping for. She's never felt more relief in her life than when she calls JJ, and says it aloud.
Alex and Penelope occupy his hospital room while he's still out from the anesthetic. With herself from Quantico, Penelope brought the most recent ultrasound from his desk and some little figurines, setting them up in front of him.
"Do you think it's a girl or a boy?" Alex asks, sitting in a chair across from Penelope. "The baby?" Now that neither of them feels like their worry is sucking the air out of them, it's more comfortable to talk about him.
Spencer and Y/n had chosen not to find out, figuring it was one of the few good surprises in life, and they didn't need anything different depending on the sex of the baby.
"Girl," Penelope answers before justifying. "But maybe that's just what I want. We've got Henry and Jack, so we need a little girl."
"That's what Spencer thinks, too," Alex remembers. It had taken a little while to get him to confess to it after all of his insisting that he just wanted a healthy baby
Penelope doesn't get the chance to ask Alex what she thinks before someone else is speaking. "What do I think?"
Their eyes quickly snap to Spencer, and another wave of relief rushes over both of them, overjoyed that he hadn't suffered from any brain damage.
"Hey, you," Alex says softly. "How are you feeling?"
"Alive." He replies, mostly feeling so energized because of the intense throbbing in his neck.
"That, we are very grateful for," Penelope says, squeezing his hand.
He's still groggy, adjusting to the light in the room. "Y/n's not here, is she?" He asks, but it's not disappointment in his tone, it's worry.
"No," Alex assures him. "She doesn't know."
"Good." Spencer agrees with Hotch's reasoning unknowingly. "She has to be on bed rest, and she has to keep her cortisol low."
Worrying about her being okay is making his heart rate jump up, and the girls know they have to keep it down. "She's okay, I promise," Penelope assures him. "You need to rest and get better, so you're okay to fly home."
He nods, settling down a little more. "Alex, you should go back to help the team." He dismisses her when he hears her phone buzzing. "Thank you for being here."
She nods, squeezing his knee after she stands up. "Get some rest."
When she leaves, he turns back to Penelope. "Can I tell you something?"
She nods emphatically. "Always."
"We're having a boy." He informs her.
Her eyes light up as she smiles at him. "Spencer, that's amazing. Did you find out?"
He shakes his head. "No, I just know." Usually, his near-death dreams are memories of his childhood, but in this one, he was standing over a bassinet in their bedroom, looking at the most perfect little baby boy he'd ever seen. He had looked too much like Y/n for Spencer to be seeing a baby version of himself.
Penelope resists the urge to hug him, knowing he's far too injured, but she's in tears about it like he is. "I cannot wait to meet perfect baby Reid."
He nods in agreement. "Me, too. Let's hope she doesn't go into labor until I'm back." He chuckles about it, but there's evident concern that he won't make it back in time. If he wasn't in hospital, he could catch a commercial flight home if needed, but when he's also in the hospital, there's not going to be much he could do.
"You'll be back in time," Penelope assures him.
He holds onto that as things get more complicated with another person trying to kill him, and eventually, most of the force being in on the murders.
By the time the worst of it is over, it's dawn in DC, and Spencer calls when he knows she'll be awake. "Good morning." He says softly.
Y/n mutes the TV, although she wasn't really watching it. There's not much to do on bed rest while heavily pregnant. "Hey, busy last night?"
Spencer sighs, looking around the hospital room that Penelope had vacated to sign his release papers. "Something happened." He confesses.
She nervously bites her bottom lip, her heart already beating faster as she starts to stress. "Tell me quick, please."
Right, he should have known that didn't sound good. "I'm okay now, but I did get shot."
"Spencer Reid, you say that far too casually." She scolds. She knows that if she's hearing his voice, it can't be that bad. "Where?"
"My neck." He answers, figuring he'll leave the piece of information out about how close the bullet was to his carotid artery until he can monitor her blood pressure and pulse. "It's a tiny bandage as well."
Y/n knows he loves his job, and he wouldn't choose to do anything else in the world, but she does wish it was a little less dangerous. "Well, I hope you're coming home soon, so I can properly tell you off."
Spencer chuckles at the comment. "I'll be back by tonight. How are you? Staying in bed?"
"Yes." She says flatly, having been texted the question by him so many times. "I'm good, but I'll be better when you get home."
He feels the same way. "Just don't go into labor before then." He requests.
"I'm weeks away." She assures him, rubbing her hands over the bump. He feels differently, knows it deep down, but he's not going to worry her with his intuition.
"Okay, I should go, so I can sign my discharge papers." He decides, noticing Penelope at the door. "I love you."
"I love you, too." She replies. "Thanks for staying alive."
The jet doesn't leave Texas too late, but it'll be dark in DC by the time they get home. He's asleep almost as soon as he lays on the couch, a deep gut feeling telling him that he'll need it
Penelope keeps the secret about baby Reid to herself while Spencer sleeps, unsure of if he wants it known or not. When they were in the hospital, he looked so sure about it that she's sure of it now.
Before they can get in their cars and leave the airport, Spencer finds a moment alone with Hotch. "I need some time."
Hotch raises his eyebrows like he's asking if Spencer is serious. "I'm glad you're asking because it means I don't have to make it an order."
"Thank you," Spencer says, taking Hotch's offer of a handshake.
"Let us know when the baby comes, and we'd like photos, too," Hotch tells him
Spencer can't help but ask Alex about her slip-up in the car while she drives him home as the memories slowly come back to him. "Who's Ethan?"
"My son." She answers before going into the sad story about his death. Spencer's been around a lot of death, children's death as well, but it's terrifying when he's about to become a parent. "I think he would have been a lot like you." She confesses.
"Thank you." He says simply. For two people with a lot of words, it's enough.
Alex grabs his bag for him when they reach the Reids' apartment, and they walk slowly up the stairs. He knows something is bothering her, and he's guessed what. "Are you leaving?" He asks.
It catches her off guard like she forgot he's a profiler. "I am." She answers honestly.
It's easy for him to understand. At least as soon as he blacked out, he couldn't remember anything else. Alex had been the one trying to stop him from dying, and that responsibility, on top of how horrifying their job was, was enough.
"I'm happy for you," Spencer tells her before putting his key in the lock and opening the door.
Y/n practically jumps on him as soon as he's in the apartment, hugging him tightly but carefully. "Oh, my god. You're back, you're here, and you're okay." She exclaims. Seeing him mostly physically okay is better than hearing his voice on the phone.
"I am," Spencer assures her when he finally gets released from the hug. "You're meant to be in bed."
She hits him on the shoulder. "Don't start." She warns before she moves to hug Alex at the awkward angle she now has to hug people at thanks to massive baby Reid. "Thank you for bringing him home." She says appreciatively.
"Of course." Alex nods. She can't help smiling at how in love the two of them are, remembering almost two years ago when Spencer was worried about not being enough to be her husband. "I'll leave you two to it." She says, stepping backward to leave.
Spencer's not really a hugging type of person, but he jumps at the chance to hug her before she goes, thanking her again and then closing the door.
"We should go to bed." He tells Y/n, even though his hands on either side of her bump make it impossible for them to move.
"You scared the shit out of me, you know?" She tells him, frowning up at him.
He kisses her on the forehead softly before kissing her lips. "I know." He answers. "I was scared, too, before I blacked out. But I will always do everything in my power to come home to you." He assures her, each word with such emphasis and meaning. He looks down at her bump. "And you, sweet boy?"
"A boy?" She asks in surprise, his eyes focusing back on her. "Did you realize you're wrong and now you're jumping ship to the right side, Reid?"
He laughs with her. "Yes, I did change my mind, Reid." He retorts. "Now, did you eat?"
"I did. I cleaned the kitchen too. How many boxes of cereal do you really need?" Spencer's face is blank as he realizes what's happening, and she's concerned. "What's up?"
He knows it'll just stress her out to know how common a sign nesting is of labor, so he doesn't say anything. "Just counting how many boxes of cereal I have."
"Eleven." She answers for him. "Eight now, actually, because I was hungry."
He laughs softly before kissing her again. "Come on, let's go to bed." He guides her through the house with his hands on her hips, glancing around the apartment he was so fond of. The bassinet at the edge of the bed always makes him smile, knowing there's going to be a baby in there and soon if his intuition is right.
He tiptoes out of the bedroom once she's showering to put his laundry on, but he's interrupted before he can turn the machine on. It's his wife with a very uneasy look on her face, her skin paler than usual, like she's sick. "I think I'm in labor." She barely manages to get out, voice soft from her shock.
Spencer doesn't freeze or underperform. Silently, he thanks the universe once again, grateful he's alive and back in DC. He did expect it, but that only contributes slightly to his calm front. "Okay, just breathe for a second. I'll go get your bag, and we'll go to the hospital." He narrates to her, keeping his voice slow to calm her.
It's the second hospital he's been at in the last twenty-four hours, and he would much rather be the one in the hospital bed if it meant she wasn't in pain.
Even though he has barely slept in the last week, there's no way he would miss a moment. He's hyper-alert as he comforts her, refuses to take his hand off hers, and makes a few phone calls.
Some terribly long hours of labor later, they have a baby. It was excepted, obviously, something months in preparation, but it's still unreal.
He's loved the little baby for so long, and he didn't realize that love would amplify exponentially. "You look exactly like this when you sleep," Spencer tells her, looking into the clear bassinet and staring at a face that mirrored hers.
"Your nose, though." She tells him, glad about that fact.
"So perfect." He coos. His phone vibrates, but nothing can knock him out of the moment. "The team's here." He reports.
"Send them in." She directs him, knowing he's asking more than telling. "I just should have brought makeup."
He leans down to kiss her forehead. "You look gorgeous."
Hugs are shared when JJ, Will, Henry, Hotch, Jack, Penelope, Alex, Morgan, and Rossi walk in, smiles on all their faces. Spencer very gently picks up the baby, showing him to everyone. "This is Ethan."
He stays asleep as he gets past around to his aunts and uncles and shown to his cousins, who all awe at him. Spencer stands next to Alex while everyone else talks.
"He's perfect," Alex tells him, even though she knows he's thought it a million times.
"I hope you don't mind," Spencer says nervously. "His name, I mean."
She shakes her head. "It's perfect. Enduring."
8:34 PM
in hindsight, there’s no other person you can blame for your current heartbreak but yourself.
if only…
if only you were honest, maybe things would have gone differently.
if only you were honest to yourself and to the people around you, maybe you wouldn’t have to sit through this dinner with a forced smile while you watch suna rintarou hold hands with a girl who isn’t you.
DENY
you’ve always liked suna rintarou. your sister knew it, your friends outside of volleyball club knew it. hell, you reckon that even your parents knew it.
yet you always deny, deny, deny. especially to your close friends and neighbors, atsumu and osamu. you’ve known the twins since you were all children and have seen how they fell in love with volleyball; they even managed to recruit you as a manager for their volleyball team once you all entered inarizaki high.
it goes to say, you ended up becoming friends with the then new-to-town suna rintarou. the twins always made it a point to tease you to him but you were the maser of denial.
sometimes, you think you’re even able to deny to yourself that you like suna as more than just a friend.
that is, until hani nakamura entered the picture.
she was a grade younger, known for her intellect and beauty. even boys from other schools wait for her outside of inarizaki’s gates in the hopes of getting to know her. you’ve managed to befriend her when you both got seats in the student council during your sophomore year.
she’s a sweet person. president of her class, eldest daughter in the family, and a part of the youth council at church. it’s a running joke in the student council how she must have more than 24 hours in a day to be able to manage everything she’s involved in.
you genuinely liked her nice personality and almost everyone will agree that finding something to dislike about hani nakamura is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
“do you like someone, y/n-senpai?” she asked you one afternoon as you’re both leaving the student council room. she wasn’t in a hurry like usual days, the thursday afternoon free for her while you were running late for the volleyball club’s practice.
“that’s random!” you replied as you avoided her gaze.
“neither of the twins?” she curiously asked.
you made fake vomiting sounds. “ew, no, they’re like my brothers.”
“sorry,” she immediately said before sighing. “i’m just curious, that’s all. i mean, you being the manager of a group of athletic boys… how is it? how haven’t you developed a crush on any of them?”
the curiosity in her voice made you giggle a little. “who said i haven’t developed a crush on any of them?”
at that, hani’s face lit up. “really? who?”
and before you could think any further, you said, “you’re free this afternoon, right? why don’t you come to the gym with me?”
8:40 PM
“so,” atsumu begins with a sly smile, his face already reddening from the alcohol he’s been consuming even before the food was served. “when did it all start?”
the couple in question exchange a look and you can’t help but notice how the other people at the table coo over the action.
“she made the move first.” “he made the move first.”
suna and hani laugh after realizing what they said at the same time, earning teasing remarks from the table.
“fucking shit, suna rintarou!” atsumu suddenly yells. “stop looking like that at nakamura. you look so goddamn whipped.”
suna only rolls his eyes as he brings their intertwined hands to his lips and kisses the back of hani’s hand. “if you’re envious, just close your eyes, atsumu.”
another round of laughter.
“but seriously,” aran steers the conversation back on track. “how did it all begin?”
hani dons that sweet smile of her. “it’s all thanks to one person.”
and then you feel eyes on you as suna finishes the girl’s sentence. “yeah, thanks for bringing her to our practice that afternoon, y/n.”
LIE
“it’s number 10, right?” hani said as you both walked home after the practice ended.
you nearly tripped on your steps as you gave her a shocked look. “w-what?”
“the one you have a crush on.”
was it that obvious? you wanted to ask her but instead said, “the one i had a crush on. that was soooo last year.”
“oh. why did you stop liking him?”
you shook your head. “just because.”
“because?”
a shrug. “i don’t think it’s wise for the volleyball club manager to date one of the members. what if we fight? it can ruin the team’s dynamics.”
8:45 PM
“you know what surprises me more than the fact that you’re dating nakamura?” ginjima says as he reaches for another stick of barbecue. “it’s the fact that as it turns out, you’re interested in dating, after all.”
a murmur of agreement from the other team members. suna suppresses a roll of his eyes. “did i ever give off the energy that i’m not interested in dating?”
“yes,” one of the freshmen answers a little too quickly, making everyone laugh with the exception of you. sure, other times you would have let out a few giggles as well but a bad feeling was stirring in your stomach, having a guess on which direction the conversation is heading.
“ah, i can’t actually blame you. i mean, we mostly see each other in the gym and court where there are no potential love interests to be seen.”
you feel osamu shoot a quick glance at your direction as you try your best to stop the frown from forming on your face.
as if the night couldn’t get even worse.
not only did suna announce he’s dating one of your friends, but he also confirmed the thing you’ve been trying not to think of all this time: for the past two years as friends, you often wondered why suna never dated anyone and never acted on the small hints and opportunities you’ve been dropping ever since you realized you liked him as more than just a friend. you concluded that maybe, romance is the least of his priorities.
but his answer just now, and the fact that he’s proudly holding hands with hani in front of the team, splashes the ice cold truth on you: it’s not that he wasn’t interested in dating; it’s just that he wasn’t interested in dating you.
suddenly, you feel like leaving dinner. your mind scrambles to find an excuse to leave but all you can think of is: suna is holding hani’s hand. suna who acts as if he cares about nothing is holding hands with a girl in front of the whole volleyball team. suna is dating hani. suna’s heart belongs to a girl who isn’t you.
and it’s suffocating. you want to at least go to the rest room but you’re glued to your seat, as if the heavy feeling in your chest has planted you on the spot with no chance of moving.
instead, more thoughts flood your mind: what if you had been honest with yourself earlier? what if you never denied to the twins that you like suna? would they have made a way for suna to see you in a different light? what if you were honest instead to hani and didn’t tell her that you no longer liked suna? would she have had second thoughts about dating him? what if you had tried to be as perfect as–
“y/n,” osamu’s voice breaks you out of your thoughts. you look to your right and see him standing next to your seat. “you look unwell. do you want me to drive you home?”
8:59 PM
“i won’t ask anything but you can cry now. i’ll just drive and let you be.”
you close your eyes and let the tears fall. silent, at first, until choked up sobs escape your lips and your body is shaking and you try not to curl in onto yourself but your chest physically hurts that you mindlessly lift your knees to your chest and cry and cry and cry and cry because you know you’ll never be able to call suna rintarou “yours” despite your heart only belonging to him.
Stood Up. Picked Up.
Tumblr media
Requested: Thank you anon for this sweet request!! Hope you enjoy it!
Word Count: 1.8k
Pairings: Jake Seresin x Reader
Warnings: mentions of alcohol, mild swearing, some fluff
Summary: When you get stood up on your date, a certain pilot is there to pick you up.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t often you had the free time for a date, let alone a guy who would give you the time of day. Being a Top Gun pilot had most guys turning their heads at a girl who could hang with the best. Which made for a very dry love life.
Phoenix had the same problem and joked if things kept going the way they were, the two of you would date. Something you had given some thought to once or twice. At least she would treat you right. But you knew her, and Rooster were dancing around each other these days. It was only a matter of time before one of them grew a pair and made the first move.
The excitement had slowly started to die down when the time kept ticking and you were alone at the restaurant your date previously agreed on. You tried to blame the military for making you not only on time, but fifteen minutes early. These past years in the Navy had taught you to never be late or you will be running until you puke.
Which then carried over into your personal life, thus making you wait for other people. But five minutes late quickly turned into thirty and soon enough you were grabbing your purse heading out the door.
It almost felt like a walk of shame with the people around you throwing pity stares your way. The hostess gave you a sympathetic smile on the way out, but you didn’t have it in you to be friendly back. The embarrassment of the situation swiftly transformed into anger and the only thing on your mind was having one too many drinks at the Hard Deck.
The place was crowded as usual, but it wasn’t hard to find a seat at the bar. Most of the patrons were playing pool, darts, or attempting to dance to whatever was playing on the juke box. You heard a few voices from the Top Gun pilots that were stationed here with you, but you hoped and prayed they stayed on the other side of the bar.
Penny did a double take when she saw you. The pilot she had come to love was not in her uniform but a simple red sundress. A sight she knew she wouldn’t get to see much of. The smile she wore quickly vanished when she realized how upset you looked.
A glass of whiskey was set out in front of you, and you mumbled a quick “thank you” to the ever so lovely bar owner. You didn’t waste time and threw the glass back with one gulp and placed the empty glass back down.
“Want to tell me about it?” Penny was just trying to help which is why you gave her a very short run down.
“Had a date that didn’t show up. Now I’m here trying to forget about it.” You glanced up at her and saw a look of understanding.
“I’ll keep them coming. Just make sure you find a ride home.” You nodded your head because it was all you could do. If worse comes to worse, you’ll call a cab and have Phoenix drive you back in the morning.
A few more drinks in and you could finally start to feel the anger fade away. That along with any other feelings at the moment. You felt someone sit at the bar next to you, but you were too focused on the half drank drink in front of you.
“Never in my life would I have expected to see you dressed like that.” The southern drawl told you exactly who it was before giving them a glance.
“Yeah, well soak it all in now. Because it for sure isn’t happening again.” You didn’t see the concern Hangman had over that statement. Instead, you finished off your drink and grabbed some money out of your purse to pay for the drinks.
“Don’t go leaving on my account.” You lazily turned your head towards him, “Don’t feel like getting into it with you tonight. I’ve had enough irritation in the last few hours to last a lifetime.”
Everyone knew the two of you didn’t exactly get along. He was always doing whatever he could to be the best while you solely believed in teamwork. The two of you just didn’t mesh well and it was no one’s fault. Well, maybe his.
You hopped of the stool and nearly fell over if it wasn’t for him catching you. “I’m fine.” He chuckled and shook his head, “Clearly. How are you getting home?”
You fished out your phone from your purse and held it up to him. “Calling a cab.” You squinted at the screen, trying to make the numbers in front of you stop moving.
“I can give you a ride. Just wait right here.” He didn’t give you time to protest as he walked off, leaving you to grip the bar for support. While having a few too many drinks worked wonders for clearing your mind, your body was hating you for it.
A hand was placed around your waist, making you jump at the sudden contact.
“Calm down, Darlin. Just me.” On any other day you would’ve slapped him for not only putting his hand on your waist but using the pet name he called all the girls he took home with him. But because of your now questionable decision to get drunk, he was now leading you out to his truck.
You only hoped no one from the team was witnessing this. You would never hear the end of it.
Once situated, he started the truck and pulled out of the bar in the direction of your apartment. It was quiet except for the soft sounds of country music playing on the radio. You were nearly asleep sitting up when he asked, “Who hurt you tonight?”
The question caught you off guard. It wasn’t a simple “what happened” or “why are you drinking on a Wednesday”. He knew something happened and you didn’t expect him to care enough to notice.
“Got stood up tonight. Felt like drinking was my best option.” Being stood up was one thing but having to tell others hurt in a whole different way. It was like admitting out loud that someone didn’t think you were good enough for their time.
While you were stuck in your own pity party, you missed the way his knuckles tightened on the steering wheel. Or the way his face hardened at the carefree way you explained what happened. He knew you were hurting but were too stubborn to admit it.
“Why do you even care?” He winced at your question, hoping you were too drunk to notice. The explanation was simple really. He had fallen for you the first day you met. He admired the way you held yourself, confident and sure of ever decision. You included everyone during a conversation. He swears it was the most he heard Bob talk at one time. And while you were quick to call him out on his bull shit, you never once talked down to him.
“Ever think I’m just a nice guy?” The snort that came after his question had him smiling.
“I think you are a guy who doesn’t do anything he doesn’t want to. Which brings me back to my question. Why do you care enough to drive me home? You could’ve easily called a cab instead.” You had been trying to run all the possibilities in your head, but nothing made sense. The two of you avoided each other most of the time and the few interactions you had aren’t exactly pleasant.
But you also couldn’t help that this man could make you weak at the knees with a simple smile. There was something about the cockiness that drew you to him and you wanted to hate yourself for it. This was the guy who left his teammates hanging for his own gain. The one who would never admit to a mistake. But that still didn’t stop you from wondering if there was maybe more to him.
And his answer proved just that.
“That man today was stupid for ever letting you go. But I can’t help but thank God for giving me a chance to step in. Let me show you how a real man is supposed to treat a girl. Because you, Darlin, deserve the world.”
You were stunned into silence. Words like that weren’t supposed to come from him. He was supposed to be the villain in everyone’s story, but here he was shutting down all doubts you had about yourself tonight.
“You still with me, sweetheart?” His voice brought you out of your head, but you still didn’t know how to answer him. So, you blurted out, “Good lord I didn’t think I was that drunk.”
His laugh had you smiling along with him, and you were hoping that this wasn’t some messed up dream you were going to wake up from in the morning. “I’m not like all the other girls you take home.”
You heard him sigh and looked over to see him running a hand through his hair. It was weird to see him act nervous. The ever so cocky pilot had never shown an emotion he didn’t want to. Which made you wonder how much of an act he really put on around you all.
“I know that. I also know how different you are than most people in general. You make everyone around you a better person. The happiness and joy you bring with you pulls people in and I can’t get enough of it. I’ve tried all different ways to get your attention from day one, but you see right through it. I thought I would never get the chance at a moment like this, but seeing you alone at the bar damn near killed me.”
You thought over his words and asked, “Why not be real with me? That would’ve grabbed my attention. It did tonight.”
He pulled into my apartment complex and parked the truck, turning towards you in the process. “Because I didn’t think the real me would be good enough for you.”
It was in that moment you realized how wrong you were about this man. The insecurities he seemed to have about himself was mind blowing to you. From the outside looking in, he seemed like the perfect man who had it all together. But really, he only put on an act like he did.
“Thank you for getting me home safe.” You gave him a warm smile as you got out of the truck. Before you shut the door, you leaned your head in and said, “I’m free after training tomorrow.”
To Be Friends
I’ve exaggerated some of Nancy’s negative character traits slightly in this story, but it’s also for the sake of her developing past them.
Robin usually sits alone, as sad as that is. It’s whatever; she’s comfortable with it. She can usually get some reading done without any interruptions. But it’s the first day back at school since they took down Vecna, and she’s pleasantly surprised when Nancy sits across from her. They smile at each other, a little stiff without a common goal they’re trying to work for.
“You packed a lunch today,” Nancy states awkwardly.
“Actually Steve made this for me. He always dotes more after, uh… notable events. Sometimes it’s just a particularly bad nightmare. One time Dustin popped a bike tire and Steve bought him a helmet after it was fixed. He gets spikes in paranoia when he’s reminded how easily things can go wrong.”
“That does sound like him. You should try dating him.”
Robin’s eyebrows furrow in confusion. “Is that a real suggestion?”
“Oh! No, I just mean that he doted on me all the time when he was dating me.”
“Yeah, he’s a real sap.”
There’s a lull in the conversation before Nancy speaks up again. “It is surprising you aren’t a couple. You’re both very attractive.”
“Uh… so? I mean, thank you? I mean… I’m not interested. He’s not my type.”
Nancy hums. “Don’t worry. I understand.”
“You… do?”
“I actually have dated Steve. It probably would have been smarter to be friends first. You’re smart that way.”
“... Thank you?”
“Yeah. I mean, I’m sure you’re well aware of the bullet you dodged.”
Robin chuckles uncomfortably. “Maybe? I guess that depends on what exactly you’re referring to.”
“You said yourself he tends to dote. It’s so much more extreme when he’s dating you. I don’t need to use his jacket for the one minute walk from the school to the car. I don’t need him opening doors for me. I can do that myself.”
“Uh-huh…” Robin says, trying to keep her eyes from squinting.
“And he gets so clingy. And emotional. I swear sometimes it was more like he wanted me to be his mom than his girlfriend, which is honestly so privileged. He cut off his friends for me, so it became my job to comfort him about it?”
“He was friends with them for a long time, and he didn’t have anyone else to talk to about it. He’d kind of just cut off all his other friends,” she tries to joke.
“They were assholes,” Nancy says, maintaining seriousness. “He shouldn’t have been so caught up on them.”
“If he didn’t realize just how shitty they were until you, then he must have had a lot of good experiences with them too. A lot to be conflicted about.” She knows this is the case, because Steve’s talked to her about it too.
“He shouldn’t have been friends with them in the first place.”
“So why did you date Steve for so long? Like a year, right? If he was such a shitty boyfriend? You shouldn’t have been dating in the first place?”
“That’s different.”
“How?”
“Because Steve was popular. Everyone loves him, but the only other person I thought might want me was too preoccupied to look at me. I waited a month with nothing. Can you really blame me for wanting to feel wanted and liked after my best friend died?”
“No, but I can blame you for using that as your excuse while apparently hating anything he did because he wanted and liked you. You literally started your complaints about how doting he can be.”
“What, like you don’t think it’s annoying?” And Robin knows what she means by that, but ‘annoying’ would never be the word she would use to describe it. Just… overwhelming sometimes. But understandable. “Besides, that was more of a pet peeve. You were the one who brought that up. There’s a reason I moved my complaints to him crying over his positive choices.”
And that startles Robin a bit. “He actually cried over it?”
Nancy rolls her eyes. “It was a hyperbolic idiom. But my point remains. Everyone loves him, but he was just upset that those two assholes didn’t anymore.”
“If everyone loves him why did no one turn up?”
“I’m sorry?”
“You say everyone loves him like he could have anyone, but you were all he had after Tommy and Carol immediately turned on him for pushing back one time.”
“You know what, that’s another thing. Why even be upset that someone who was willing to turn on you that quickly, did?”
“Well under that logic Steve should hate you then, shouldn’t he?”
“Oh, is that what this is about? Fine, go shoot your shot. I’m sure he’d love to have you. But don’t come crawling to me when he becomes too much for you.” With that she gets up from the table and sits at a newly vacant table.
Robin’s never ditched school before, but now she wants nothing more than to bike over to family video and hug her favorite person.
↞⬡+¤+⬡↠
She manages to talk herself out of skipping. She only had 2 and a half hours of school left after lunch, and none of the classes left were her best. Steve would take his break to pick her up anyway, so why put in the effort to bike all of the way there? Still, she has such a hard time concentrating on the last classes.
When she finally gets out, Steve is already parked in his usual spot, and she plops down into the seat.
“Bad day?” Steve asks.
“You know how you were hoping we could have some kind of outing with Nancy and Jonathan before the latter has to go back to California?”
“Yeah?”
“Scratch that. We’re not doing it.”
“What happened?”
She hesitates. She doesn’t want to be the one to tell him, but she also isn’t going to keep this from him. “Nancy told me that she didn’t like dating you, basically.”
“Oh, yeah, I know that.”
“And what, you're just ok with hanging out with her now?”
“I mean, it’s not her fault. She tried to like it. It’s not her fault she didn’t.”
“But it is her fault for not telling you how she felt about it. Let you think everything was fine. That’s leading you on.”
Steve shrugs. “It’s not like she was trying to do that. And it’s not like hanging out with her now would involve any kind of hope that we’d get back together. She didn’t like me as a boyfriend, but we can still be friends.”
“How do you know she likes you as a friend? If she lied to you about liking you as a boyfriend.”
“We should get to work before my break is up,” he says, putting the car into gear.
They don’t talk about it after that. They don’t talk much at all for the rest of the day.
Robin doesn’t eat lunch in the cafeteria after that, not wanting to deal with Nancy again. She doesn’t necessarily know that Nancy would try to start up that conversation again, but even just seeing her in the hall sours her mood a bit, so she doesn’t need to be dealing with that.
So she’s sitting in an empty classroom eating lunch when Nancy finds her.
“You’ve been avoiding me.”
Robin glares. “Is this not mutually beneficial?”
Nancy sighs. “Look,” she starts as she sits in the seat beside Robin, “I’m not great at taking criticism. I’m a very defensive person. I’m not good at admitting when I’m wrong, but… I was, so…”
“So…” Robin prompts.
“So you were right. I just… needed to sit on all the points for a while before I could calm down enough to actually consider them.”
“Ok. But what are you going to do about it?”
“I’m… apologizing?”
“For what?”
Nancy rolls her eyes, but answers anyway. “For snapping at you, and not listening to what you were trying to tell me.”
“Ok. So what about Steve?”
“What about him?”
“Are you going to apologize to him too?”
“For fighting with you?” She lets out a confused breathy laugh. “I know you guys are close but is that necessary?”
“Are you serious right now?”
Nancy blinks a few times before jolting a little. “Oh! I was too focused on- yeah, I should. It’s just been so long I wasn’t even thinking about it.”
“Do you want to be friends with Steve?”
“What do you mean?”
“He still respects you, and wants to reconnect after… everything. I don’t want you to let him drag you to hang outs because it’s easier than denying a simple request, then blowing up at him about it later. Again. I don’t know if he’d come back from it a second time.”
“I honestly don’t know,” Nancy sighs. “If I want to be friends with him. I feel like… he carries an association… The whole year I was with him I was in mourning, and we only reconnected recently because of, as you worded it, ‘recent events.’ I just… every time I’ve been with him in one way or another… something bad was going on. I feel like being friends with him would just leave me on edge all the time.”
“Make sure he knows that then.” She picks up her now empty lunch tray and moves to leave the room.
“Wait, Robin!”
“Yeah?” she stops by the doorway.
“Can we still be friends?”
“I don’t know… But we can be more than not friends.”
“Yeah… I’d want to be more than ‘not friends’ with Steve too.”
“Make sure he knows.”
“Yeah…”
We never really see how Nancy responds to being wrong, because she’s never written to be. My headcanon for how she responds to it is that she gets really pissed, but after sitting on it for a long time she has a hard time denying when there’s an imbalance. She’s logical enough to know what’s right, but she’s stubborn, and bias towards her own perspective, so things like this do need to get pointed out to her and it takes her a while to come around.
Circles Part Two
Tumblr media
“What would you do that for Neelam? I don’t really understand the reason or understand why you felt that it was necessary.”
After everything that just went down Jack was trying to figure out just exactly how everything blew up. One minute you were all dancing and laughing and just enjoying each other's company and the next you’re running out crying and everyone is pointing fingers at Neelam.
“I was protecting you and you can’t even get mad at me when you’re the one that brought it up.” To be fair Neelam was right Jack had mentioned brining up an NDA but that was before he got to know you as a person now, he knows you aren’t like all those other girls he’s been with.
“That was in the past Neelam you had no right to say all that shit to her.” He was fuming Jack knew you’d probably never speak to him again and honesty who couldn’t blame you.
“Whatever, I’m done with this conversation I didn’t mean to come off strong I just… I just want what’s best for you alright.” Neelam started getting emotional. “You’ve been through a lot, and you didn’t come this far just to lose.” Jack wasn’t angry anymore he was more so understanding.
He knew Neelam had good intentions when it came to him, but she just wished she would’ve talked to him first. “I appreciate you looking out for me Neelam but all of that with Y/N wasn’t needed.” He took a seat next to her. “She’s different in a good way she doesn’t care about all of the glitz and glamor. I just hope she can forgive me.”
“I’m sure she will and if she’s down for it I’d love to meet her again and apologize.” Neelam suggested. “You promise you won’t make her cry this time?” Jack threatened, “I promise I’ll be on my best behavior.” Now that he talked things out with Neelam, he can only hope and pray you'd talk to him.
————————————————————————
“Babe come on I feel like you ignoring him just isn’t fair.” Your friend Mia said. You had Drama drop you off at Mia’s house after everything went down because you knew Jack most likely would probably be at your house the next day.
“I don’t wanna hear anything he has to say I just feel like it was a set up and for him to have been already discussing the NDA with Neelam it just makes me feel some type of way.” Mia understood how you felt and you had every right to feel the way you felt mainly because you went in with open arms and a open heart, you wanted to be friends with everyone but that clearly didn’t happen.
“Well just get up out of bed and go shower at least you’re kind of smelling up my entire bedroom.” She joked which earned her a pillow to the head. “Fine I’ll get up and shower but why?”
Jack had messaged Mia via Instagram and had messaged her and explained everything that went down and asked Mia if she was able to make it seem like she was taking you out, when in reality Jack wanted Mia to bring you to Morris Deli so you’d be able to talk.
“I’m kind of hungry and I’m really craving a sandwich from Morris Deli.” She was being oddly specific. “Alright I’ll go get ready I’ll be downstairs in 10.” She nodded and left the room leaving you alone.
You sighed and got up you honestly weren’t in the mood to go anywhere or see anybody you just wanted to honestly cry. You knew Jack didn’t deserve the silent treatment or just being completely ignored you felt guilty knowing he was probably worried and stressed over the fact that you weren’t talking to him.
After you showered you tossed on the pair of leggings with one of Mia’s hoodies, after looking yourself over one last time you made your way downstairs. “Wow look at you all showered up and looking fresh and so clean.” Mia joked.
“Yeah whatever but lunch is on you today.” She raised her hands in defense. “Yes ma’am.”
The car ride over there didn’t take as long as you expected it to be, once Mia pulled up you got out of the car and went to walk inside the deli but stopped when you realized Mia wasn't following behind.
You quickly walked back over to the car and went to open it just to find out she locked the car doors, she rolled the window passenger window down. “Uh hello what are you doing?” You we’re getting irritated because you didn’t understand what was going on and you were getting looks from individuals passing by. “You see I’m not actually hungry.” Your eyebrows scrunched together, she wasn’t making any sense right now. “Okay so let’s go home then.” You went to open the door again just for her to drive up forward a bit.
“Are you crazy you almost ran over my toes.” She giggled. “Look you’re going to hate me right now but I promise you’ll love me later babe, good luck Jack.” She waved at someone standing behind you.
“Jack?” You turned around when you noticed another shadow appearing right behind you. “Oh it’s you.” Jack's smiled faintly. “It’s me you know your boyfriend the one you’ve been ignoring.” He song sang it was awkward for a few seconds the two of you not really knowing what to do or how to start the conversation.
"Look.” He sighed and looked up at you. “I’m sorry baby I didn’t know any of that was going to happen. If I knew Neelam was going to react that way I wouldn’t have taken you there I hope you know I’d never willing put you in any situation like that." Jack was being brutally honest with you and that’s something you deeply cherished about him.
“I’m sorry for overreacting you didn’t deserve to be ignored but it hurt when I heard her say that you’ve talked to her about having be potentially signing an NDA.” Jack took your hands in his. “I did discuss the NDA to Neelam and Drama but that’s only because I told them it wasn’t going to be needed.”
You titled your head to the side. “Why wouldn’t it be needed?” He grinned and looked down at the ground before drawing his blue ocean eyes back to you. “I truly and honestly love and adore you Y/N, I don’t know and maybe I’ll sound like a fool but ever since we’ve met I just feel like we have this never ending chemistry and I’d love for you to officially be my girlfriend?”
You felt as if your heart was about to burst out of your chest, you couldn’t stop the smile that appeared on your face even if you tried. “I’d love to be your girlfriend Jack.” He smiled and took your hand in his. “Well now that we’ve settled that I’d like for you to come back to the house later, Neelam wants to talk to you.” Your eyes widened. “Round one wasn’t enough? She wants to give me more shit.”
He chucked “No babe she wants to apologize so just hear her out she means good.” You we’re a bit skeptical at first but hearing somebody out never hurt, you just hoped you’d be able to amend things with Neelam.
————————————————————————-
Later that night you arrived to Jack’s house once the two of you were inside you were greeted almost immediately by Druski and Urban.
“Wow look who came back I’m honestly surprised you did.” Urban joked and brought you in for a hug. “Me too I’m glad you aren’t letting that wicked witch keep you away from Jack.” Druski said. “She’d never be able to keep me away from any of you."
Your little sweet moment was interrupted by a cough, looking behind you is when you noticed Neelam standing there. She looked at Urban with a smug look on her face. “So I’m the wicked witch now Urban?” Urban’s stood there frightened as if he’s seen a ghost. “What? No I never said you were a witch I’d never.” He lied but Neelam dismissed him.
That’s when she focused her attention back on you. She gave you a half smile. “Y/N do you think we can talk for a minute?” You looked up at Jack who gave you a small smile and nodded his head. “That’s fine.” Jack gave your hand a little squeeze before following after Neelam outside.
Once the two of you made it to the porch you both sat on the steps, you wrapped your arms around yourself the cold crips air sending shivers down your arms. “I’m sorry for how I acted Y/N, I’m just very protective when it comes to Jack and the company he keeps.”
You understand completely where Neelam was coming from but at the same time you knew who you were and you’d never treat Jack like how he’s been treated in the past. “I understand Neelam but you need to understand that I’d never use Jack or put him through all of that I’m a good women and I love Jack just as much as he loves me, I just want everything to be okay between us especially since I know I’ll be around for a long time.” You confidently stated.
“You’re right you’re nothing like them and I’m sorry for making that comparison, so what do you think about us starting over?” You thought about it for a second just to tease her. “I think I’d honestly love that.”
Jack sat by the window and peeked at the two of you through the blinds. “What’s going on? Are they fighting.” Urban asked. “No, it looks like they are both laughing.” Druski started laughing, Jack pulled back from the window not wanting to get caught spying.
“What’s so funny?” He narrowed his eyes. Druski shrugged his shoulders and took a bite of his pizza. “You know with the two of them being friends I just hope you know they’ll both be bickering with you and I’m sure Y/N will side with Neelam 99% of the time.”
Jack had an uneasy feeling in his stomach now. “Shit you’re completely right I didn’t even think about it, is it too late to make them hate each other?” Jack innocently asked making Druski laugh. “Oh no man you’re stuck for life now.” Druski laughed once more and walked back into the kitchen.
When Jack went to turn back around to look outside he jumped when he was met face to face with Neelam and Yourself looking right back at him. “Jack!!” You both yelled from outside the window. “Stop being a weirdo and go sit down somewhere.” Neelam demanded. “Yeah being a creep isn’t cute.” Jack groaned and muttered things under his breath in a way he wished the two of you would’ve never made up.
Still not done. For reasons. Wacky brian go brrrrr. Happy new season, peeps!
This Future We Choose
Part 3/???
Part 1 • Part 2
Buck knew this was going to bite him in the ass eventually. He just had hoped it would be a while longer until he’d have to face the consequences for his actions. He will blame his stupidly bruised ribs for it, but of course his research material had to slide out of his folder and sail to the ground, just as he was about to show his sister the seating table he’d prepared for the wedding.
And of course, Maddie instantly recognized what those papers were, picked them up before he could bend down himself, and gave him that look.
While everyone knows by now that him and Natalia are no longer a thing, this was the thing he’d meant to keep between himself and Eddie a while longer. But fortune continues to be anywhere but on his side.
So his time is up, as his sister’s stern look at him will tell him with utmost surety.
“What are these?” Maddie asks.
“Research?” Buck answers, tight-lipped.
“Why are you researching that?”
“Coz I wanted to?”
Maddie rolls her eyes at him. “Evan.”
“Well, what do you think?” he grumbles.
“So you… seriously consider adoption? Or fostering a child?” she asks, her tone shifting to something more serious and thus something Buck knows he will find impossible to escape from.
Buck can feel his jaw tensing up. “That’s what started it, yeah.”
It started out feeling great, actually. Buck felt the usual excitement he has bubbling up in his stomach when he finds a new field of interest and learns all about it. It felt like it was all coming together, like he was coming back together, like he was heading in all the right directions at long last.
But it doesn’t matter how you start the journey, it matters how you end it.
And Buck got the sinking feeling a while ago that this journey ended before it ever truly began.
“I had… no clue, to be honest. That this is something you were considering now. I mean, I always knew you wanted kids, but… this is much more concrete than just a general wish to want children further down the road,” Maddie mutters pensively, her eyes drifting back to the brochures.
Buck rolls his shoulders. “Well, I guess actually dying sheds some light on how short life is.”
Maddie shoots him a stern look yet again, the kind of look that makes him cringe the same way it did when he was still a kid. Buck knows he shouldn’t be joking about it as much as he still does, especially with Maddie present. But sometimes, he can’t help himself. Not because he thinks death is funny, that his death was. But, as of late, he starts to think that his death was indeed some kind of cosmic joke at his expenses.
So why shouldn’t I laugh it up, at least?
“A lot’s happened this year that made me look at what I really want in life,” Buck chooses to say instead. “And… and one thing I can say for sure is that I want to become a father.”
Maddie touches his forearm lightly. “That’s great. It really is. And I’m not… I’m just surprised, that’s all.”
“I get that. I was surprised, too,” Buck replies.
“But… why would you keep this from us, from me? This is great news!”
Buck makes a face. “Because it’s weird?”
Because it’s futile?
“You wanting kids is not weird at all. Honestly, I’m still surprised you don’t have one already. You always loved kids, so much. And you’re great with them. I mean, just look at Jee doting on you. And you sure came around a lot, so I wondered that you didn’t…,” Maddie says, her voice trailing off.
Buck nudges her lightly. “Hey, I got the talk early on in my life. And I was taught very emphatically to always use protection, always.”
“Don’t remind me,” she grunts. “Because I was the one who had to give the talk to you.”
“I appreciated the diagrams and the flash cards. Has me very sure you’re gonna put out the greatest PowerPoint presentation ever for Jee, once it’s time to talk about the birds and the bees,” Buck laughs.
“So, there’s nothing weird at all about you wanting kids. I find it weird that you’ve been keeping this to yourself for so long, though. I mean, judging by the dates on some of the printouts, you’ve been doing research for a few weeks, at least,” Maddie says, gesturing at the apparent evidence of his own failures.
“Well, once it dawned on me that this is what I wanted, I guess I just wanted to get a better understanding of what’s involved in the process before announcing my intentions,” Buck explains. Which is true enough. He figured that research would make it less scary, less daunting. While Buck is considered to be somewhat the “daredevil” on the job, he can’t say the same is true when it comes to those private matters. That’s why he actually went through the hassle to print things out, to have physical proof, to make this just a bit more real.
But in the end, none of it worked.
In the end, it’s all just fantasy and make-believe.
“But why not talk to me?” He can hear the pain there, which Buck probably should have anticipated.
“I wasn’t trying to keep this from you,” he tells her in all earnest. Sure, Buck didn’t want to talk about it, but he didn’t want to leave Maddie out of the picture in particular.
I just wanted to have something to show for it. And look at me now, winding up empty-handed yet again.
“But you did not want to tell me, even though you’re sure that this is what you want,” she argues. “I just want to understand why.”
“I… I don’t know. I felt like I needed more information before saying anything, to anyone. I just started out with the premise that I wanted to be a father, really. But how? That was a big question mark for me. It still is. So I figured that I’d want to know what to announce at least, like… I wanna foster, I wanna adopt…”
She shakes her head slowly. “That’s not why you wouldn’t say anything, though.”
And of course she is right, of course Maddie sees through it. She’s been trained at reading him since they were children. Maddie raised him, so she sees the things that Buck is always busy to hide. And while it still saddens him that his big sister had to shoulder that responsibility, Buck knows that she will keep watching out for him the same way he looks out for her.
Us against the rest of the world, right?
“If you know the answer already, then why do you keep asking?” Buck doesn’t meet her gaze, he can’t.
“Because I’d rather hear it from you,” Maddie answers.
He sighs. “Honestly? I feel like it’s a good thing I didn’t announce anything, because I feel like this isn’t going anywhere.”
Maddie blinks at him. “So you don’t want to… be a father anymore?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Then why doesn’t it go anywhere?” She frowns.
Buck did, too, frown a lot, at himself. He frowned at the reflection in the bathroom mirror, his faint outline on the computer screen. He frowned at his own thoughts, and his own feelings. Because they didn’t make sense anymore. Whatever he thought he had figured out about himself, it did not fit together. Like he found some puzzle pieces, but they come from different sets.
“Because the more I look at those brochures and papers, the more I realize that this isn’t… that’s not me,” Buck admits.
“Well, there’s other options.”
“I know.”
He researched, he looked, he tried to find something different. Only to come back to the same spot over and over again. To be stuck, all over again.
Because fortune is not my friend. Because I seemingly have to keep living in waiting mode.
“But?”
“But I don’t want any of those options,” Buck says.
“So you want to be a father… but you don’t want to go for any of the options that’d make you a father?” Maddie asks, looking rightfully confused.
And if you put it like that, it really makes absolutely no sense at all. Which seems oddly fitting. Because Buck has a tendency to want the things he knows for a fact he can’t have. His parents’ love, for who he is, and not just for who he can be to other people. The feeling of being enough, of no longer needing any software updates. A world where he’s enough to protect the people he loves from all harm there is.
And someone to love me anyway.
“I didn’t pretend like this was making any sense, so I won’t start now,” Buck grumbles. He fixes his gaze on Maddie, looking at her with pleading eyes. “Can we just pretend like this never happened?”
He is really good at that, for better or worse.
“No,” is the definitive answer from his big sister, which he knew would come.
“Pretty please with sprinkles on top?” he bargains anyway.
“Evan.”
Buck knows that when Maddie uses that tone of voice when saying his name, there is really no escape anymore. Because Maddie is one of the few people who can actually speak to Evan. The vulnerable kid who only ever cried wolf to be loved by the people who refused to see him. The kid that was willing to bleed out for just one concerned look from his mother and father.
Buck keeps Evan deep inside his chest, for precisely that reason. Because he is that fragile, that broken, inside and out. Buck is stronger than that. He has grown. He has matured. He built up enough scar tissue and callouses. His bones broke often enough, and grew together strong, so he can catch himself if he falls. And he found other people to look at him a different way, to help him back to his feet.
Perhaps foolishly, Buck still tries to protect Evan as much as he can from the outside world. Because Evan doesn’t know how to seem fine. Evan only knows how to get hurt to be seen. Evan knows how to bleed, but not how to stop the bleeding. Buck knows how to become good at bearing the pain without anyone seeing. So not to become a burden.
But he knows he can’t fool Maddie. Because she knows Evan as well as Buck. She loves them both. And she will always manage to lure Evan out of the box deep inside Buck’s chest, the way she’s always managed since they were kids. But once he is outside, Buck knows he can’t shield him, and he can’t keep him from showing all the places he aches that’d Maddie mean to kiss better.
“You want to be a father, but you don’t want to go with any of the options that might make that wish come true,” Maddie tells him. “And you can’t even look me in the eye, saying it. Why?”
Buck’s eyes drift back to the brochures and printouts still on the floor, the ones in her hand, and he can feel his chest tighten to the point that it gets hard to breathe. And it’s not because of the bruised ribs. It’s because Evan long since crawled his way out, begging to be loved anyway. And Buck can’t tell him to go back and keep waiting.
Because the time won’t come.
Because the more he looks at those brochures, the more he is reminded of the reason why he can’t get there after all. Why his hopes are yet again in vain.
“Because the more research I do, the more I realize that I don’t want any of that. Not like this, at least,” he admits at last.
It’s no use anyway.
And he can bear that pain. He will have to, for Evan and himself.
“I… still don’t understand what you mean by that,” Maddie answers faintly.
“I don’t either! I thought I finally figured it out. The great epiphany! That I wanna be a father, more than anything. And that’s still true. It’s so damn true it hurts. I want to be a father, so bad. I want a child that’s mine and that I don’t have to give to anyone else.”
Tears sting in Buck’s eyes, though that’s just about the smallest pain he feels. Even his stupid ribs don’t hurt as much as this. And it just isn’t fair. To finally know what you want, only to realize that you can’t have that. Because being aimless is one thing, but knowing you won’t ever come to the shores you call home? That’s damn well a curse.
Maddie moves into his line of vision. She places a warm hand on his back, extends her other hand to squeeze his forearm.
“Hey, hey. It’s alright,” she soothes.
“It’s actually not.”
It hasn’t been in a long time, but the fool he is, he failed to see it. Because he wanted to seem fine, because he wanted to be fine again. For everyone else and himself. So Evan would remain where he put him, protected, so Buck could get back to his feet and find a way to move forward again. To maybe find a life where Evan could come out and not bleed out from a lack of love.
“Why not? I can only repeat it, there’s plenty of options to fulfill your dream,” Maddie tries to reassure him.
“There really isn’t. And that’s what makes this so damn stupid.” Tears now roll freely down his cheeks. Buck wipes at them angrily, relishes the small burn that comes with rubbing skin against skin.
“Why?”
“Because I know I want to be a father, but I… I want to be a father to a child I know I can’t be a father to,” Buck whimpers, almost choking on those truths that should have no business burning so much down his throat.
“You mean Connor’s and Kameron’s…,” Maddie mutters, but Buck interjects rather harshly, “No.”
Oh, and how he wished that was true. Because that would be easy. Anyone would understand, everyone assumes anyway. Buck wished it was that easy, but this situation only made him realize what he wanted, and just like he had to give over that child, he had to realize that he couldn’t ever get to where he wants to be.
“What child, then, if not their son?”
“Eddie’s son. Christopher.”
He pinches the bridge of his nose.
Biggest fuckin’ joke of my life.
“Christopher.”
“Yeah,” Buck croaks.
Christopher, always Christopher. In every brochure, every stock image, he saw that little guy with his dorky smile and glasses, heard his giggling, felt the way only that little guy could hug him. The boy he thought he had to give up on, knows he has to learn to let go, to be what he wants to be: A father.
Buck swallows thickly. “You know, I’ve tried to put some distance between us, lately. Between Eddie, Chris, and I. To, to figure this father thing out. Because I felt like I was… like I was using them, to have the second-best thing to being a father. But I… I miss them so damn much.”
Maddie keeps rubbing circles on his back, just as she’d done when they were both still kids and he could not be consoled after their parents looked right through him yet again.
“I… I keep seeing Christopher every time I turn the page in one of those stupid brochures. I don’t just want to have a kid that’s mine. I want that one specific kid to be mine. Even though I know he ain’t, even though I know he won’t ever be,” Buck cries, no longer able to hold it in, to contain it.
The love he can’t express, he pours it right out, like bad blood, but it just keeps on coming and coming and coming.
He might be what Eddie would want for his son, should something happen to him, but Buck isn’t that outside that scenario. So long there’s Eddie, and God knows he will make sure of it, he won’t be that for Christopher. He can’t be that for Christopher.
In the end, always the backup plan, isn’t it?
“Christopher loves you,” Maddie argues.
“But not as his dad, never as that. Because I’m not his father. Even in the event that something should happen to Eddie, and I’d take care of him… he wouldn’t be mine, not really. Inside my heart, yes, but… never outside it.”
Bobby once told Chimney that having a child is like having a heart outside of yourself. But Buck know he can’t have that, that he won’t ever get there. He can only treasure that child inside his heart, so no one can see just how much he loves that kid. Because the love he feels for him, he knows he is not entitled to.
I won’t ever be enough to them to be entitled to it. Because that isn’t my place. Not really. More than a guest, but only ever temporary. Never forever.
“Eddie would let me, that’s not the thing. But… but I can’t go on pretending, in my heart, that… that we are a family, in that sense,” Buck whimpers.
“Eddie considers you family.”
“Yeah, but not in the way I’d want him to consider me.”
Which is the icing on top of that shit sundae.
“What?”
“Forget it,” Buck replies quickly.
Because he doesn’t know how much more he can take. Because everything hurts, hurts more than his stupid ribs, more than his stinging eyes, or his inflamed cheeks. And Buck doesn’t want any more pain. He doesn’t want any more pain for Evan who is outside his little box right now, for that part of him to come to the realization that there is yet another thing they failed at.
“No, tell me, please,” Maddie begs. “I want to help.”
“I just know that this is nothing you can help me with,” Buck whispers. “Even though you’re my big sister and I grew up thinking you’re my personal superhero. But this… you can’t fix. And I think I can’t either.”
Maddie takes a deep breath, considers his words, then searches his eyes again. “Alright, then maybe I can’t fix this. But I… I know for a fact that not talking about things that hurt us, scare us, terrify us… those darkest spots in our lives… that’s even worse. And I won’t have my little brother repeat the mistakes I’ve made.”
“You didn’t…”
“It doesn’t matter,” she interjects sternly. “What I’m trying to say is that I don’t want you to keep pretending like all is fine. Like you have to keep something from me, or anyone else. You can always tell me these things. Always. Even if you may actually want to say them to someone else, you can always say them to me first. I don’t pretend to have the answers, but I can listen. And I always will, Evan. But I need to hear it from you.”
Buck looks at his sister for a long moment. He thinks about how far she’s come, how much she’s overcome. And how glad he is that she finally gets some of the pay off for the years of sacrifice. In the end, Maddie is still his personal superhero, not because she is invincible, but because she wears her scars and comes out stronger every time. Because like him, she never gives up, or even if she almost did, she fought her way back.
He takes a deep breath, then another. Maddie is right, he should say those things to someone else. But the person he’d normally go to for this? He can’t say. Buck screws his eyes shut, trying to forget all that, if only for a moment.
“Losing something can sure make you realize how much you loved it, even if you knew you loved it all along. I remember reading that, when I was still recuperating after the lightning strike.”
Buck read a lot, while at the hospital. Not just self-help books. When he stumbled over that quote, he had some sense of how that rang true for him. He just couldn’t put his finger on it, not really. Then his life took one sharp turn after the other, with Kameron and Connor and the baby, with Natalia.
The book fell back into his hands when she got the last of her things. And when he flipped to that page, it felt like lighting was striking through him again. Because he was right back in his coma dream, and it was glaring at him, laughing at him.
Who wasn’t there? Who was the one person who’s so close to you you didn’t see? Who, hm?
“I’m not following,” Maddie mutters, blinking at him.
“The more distance I put myself between myself and Eddie and Christopher, the more I realized just how alone I feel when I don’t have them near me,” Buck says.
“As I said, they love you, too.”
“And I love them, God, I love them. But I can’t love them like I wanna love them. And that fuckin’ hurts.”
Buck loved before. He knows what heartbreak feels like. But he never loved like this, and at some point, he wished he never found out that he could love like this. Because it’s a kind of love that burns even worse than the one he still feels for his parents. Even though they can’t love him back. Even though they made him walk through fire every day of his life. Because it’s the kind of fire he will keep walking into, against better judgment. Because he could learn to live without his parents, but he can’t learn to be without them.
“I can’t love Christopher like a father. And I can’t love Eddie like a partner. I can’t love them as my family I go home to every single night. I can’t love them like I do, and it sucks, and it hurts, and I just want it to stop.”
“P, partner?” Maddie stammers, still taking that in.
“Yeah, that’s about the face I made when it dawned on me,” Buck huffs bitterly. “I mean, in true Buck fashion, I kept missing all the signs. It’s always been there, and I… not even all of those epiphanies I feel I had in my coma dream prepared me for that one. Eddie wasn’t in it, in that dream, not really. Though that’s probably the great message, and I waltzed right past it.”
That his heart wasn’t in it, literally. That his heart wasn’t in that supposedly perfect life. The man who let him into his own, wasn’t there. The man who’d given his heart over to him, telling him that he is not expendable. The world that was without Eddie was the one without Christopher. And that world may have had his parents loving him in it, may have had Daniel alive, but it didn’t have them. And how can such a world ever be any good?
Buck has been wrecking his brain about it. Ever since he broke up with Natalia, he felt like he was finally gaining perspective. Only for the light to switch and put Eddie and Christopher in the spotlight. At first, he liked to think that they were simply his measure to go by. Because Buck wants to be a dad like Eddie, loving, caring, kind. And he wants a kid just like Christopher. So that seemed straightforward enough. Until it became even more twisted. Because the harder he looked, the more he realized they weren’t just the model Buck was going by, they were it. Both of them. Not just Christopher. But Eddie.
Always Eddie.
Buck can’t say he thought about Eddie as someone he wanted to be with, romantically. Sure, an attractive guy, always. Someone Buck could unashamedly say he learned to love dearly. But he can’t say he longed for him the way he is doing it now. Or rather, he now sees all of those signs he missed, all the chances he missed. The things he didn’t see, because he looked at Eddie through the lens of friendship, of what it was, and not what it could be. Because Buck didn’t even dare to think outside that box. Despite his bravado, he was not brave enough. He liked not being a guest in Eddie’s house. And he was fine with that, just that.
I never thought I could be more than that.
But Buck grew, and he’s coming to terms with it that he gets to want more, be more. He took a step back and saw more than he used to. But once you start to think outside the box, you can’t go back to its confined space. You can’t go back to only just. Once you open your heart to wanting more, it won’t be satisfied with the lesser.
How can I be enough, if I am not enough to have them?
So now, he’s left with longing and missing again. He wants the things he can’t have. And Buck won’t jeopardize the happiness either Eddie or Christopher or Marisol have found together. He won’t be that person. He can’t sink that low. Even if that means he is back to greedily stuffing the crumbs of life with Eddie and Christopher into his mouth, like a guy who’s been left out in the desert for weeks without a single thing to eat.
So maybe he’s good enough for Eddie and Christopher, to be a part of their family. But he won’t be that part of the family. Maybe Marisol will fill that seat. Maybe its going to be someone who’s not even in Eddie’s life yet. But no matter what, this person won’t be him.
So what is he even doing, researching ways to have a child, to be a father? How could it be fair to that child? When, in the back of his head, he’d always wind a string around the mere image of Eddie and Christopher as part of the family he might build?
“I’m still wrapping my head around you being into guys. But then again, I never tried too hard to look at that as your sister,” Maddie says, shaking her head wide-eyed.
“I never dated guys, I just got down dirty with them.” Buck shrugs.
He never made it a secret, but he didn’t make it explicit either.
Except for when I told them about my track record in dating yoga instructors. Because those definitely weren’t all ladies…
Buck never had a serious relationship with guys. He just fooled around with them. And especially in the beginning, it may well be that he liked things a bit too rough. Which should show that he belonged in therapy since a young age, because no, that was surely not healthy at all.
“Yeah, no, I don’t need to know that. At all. Ever.” Maddie screws her eyes shut.
“I figured.”
Buck never cared for a label to put on that, he still doesn’t. Had anyone asked him back in the day, he would have said that he’s simply not picky. Today he can safely say that he is extremely picky, to the point that he reduced his entire happiness to two people, to the point that he can’t look at anyone else the way he looks at Eddie these days.
“Alright, I’m… I’m sorry, that caught me off-guard a bit. But… but in all seriousness now, yes?” Maddie goes on to say.
He blinks at her. “Yeah?”
“There’s nothing wrong with realizing that you love people, or that you’ve fallen in love with someone, even if it’s your best friend,” she tells him.
“But there’s something wrong with wanting to say it, to make them love you back in kind, when you know you really shouldn’t,” Buck argues. “Even if it’s your best friend.”
Or precisely because he is.
“We all just want to be loved in the end. And I know for a fact that you love big. But it’s not wrong to want to be loved back in kind,” Maddie points out.
“It’s wrong to want that, knowing where Eddie stands in life right now. Knowing…” He doesn’t have to finish for Maddie to understand where he is going with this.
“People break up, you know,” she offers, which only ever has him snort. “Like I’m going to hinge my hopes on him breaking up with Marisol.”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“The problem is that Eddie loves me, but only as a friend. And even if he broke up with Marisol tomorrow… he won’t ever look at me any other way than that. And I can’t unsee what I’ve seen. I can’t look at him any other way than… this. And… and I feel like I’m losing them because of that. Because if I keep getting too close, I will… I will fuck it up, I know I will. Because I wear my emotions on my sleeve and I… this will come out eventually. And I will make a mess of everything. And I… I can’t do that.”
Fresh tears well up in his eyes.
Sure, he wants more. Sure, he wants to feel like he is enough. He tries to get there. But he knows he can’t have Eddie and Christopher, no matter how hard he tries. Not like this, at least. Because this is not about his worth or lack thereof. It’s just now how they see him. But what he can afford even less than this pain is the thought to lose the ways he has them.
He’d rather be less to them than nothing at all.
“But I also can’t keep away from them,” he continues, almost choking on the words. “I just… I don’t know what to do. I just know it hurts, no matter what I do. And I want it to stop, but it just doesn’t.”
Maddie pulls him into a hug, trying to cover up as much of him as she can, despite their difference in size. Buck sinks against her, tries to soak up her warmth to cast out the cold dread of being back where he began, only to remain stuck there.
Because there is no longer a world for him he can escape to, where he isn’t in love with Eddie, where he doesn’t want Christopher to be his son, where he doesn’t want them to be his family. It vanished, slipped through his fingertips.
“Oh, Evan.”
Buck used to think that Maddie’s hugs would always heal him. He still wants to believe that, but he can’t trust it. Because Evan is out there, and he looks back at him, begging to know why they can’t be loved anyway.
And Buck has no answer to that.
And he fears he never will.
