Being on the back of that creature was weird. They'd only been there for about a week, yet Keith had seen his mother's memories. He'd seen the moment his parents had named him, and both of them fawning over him as a baby. It was... oddly sweet to see it, how his mother loved him.
In turn, Krolia saw his memories. Both of the times he'd lost Shiro, how he meet Shiro (Krolia was laughing for a good few minutes at how Keith had stolen Shiro's car) and some of the memories he had of Adam and, perhaps most embarrassingly, Keith ranting about Lance to Adam and Shiro.
So it was fair to say that they were on even footing, really.
And the more time they spent there, the more they saw each other's memories and the more they learnt about each other.
And then there was his wolf. He was stuck on a name for his wolf, so he just called it Wolf for ease.
"What do you think is on the other side?" Keith asked. Krolia hummed in thought.
"I'm not sure, but I hope that we can figure out what the source of the energy is," she replied. Keith sighed.
"What about the source? Any ideas as to what it is?"
"No," came the reply. He groaned and laid back on the ground. Wolf came up and sniffed his face.
Keith was thrown into the future, if the appearance of a hospital room in the Garrison of all places was any indication. Looking to his side, he saw Krolia there, too.
"The girl's cutting off the supply," a voice said. Keith looked behind him and gasped.
There was an incubator of sorts in the room, made of black, white and blue Altean technology. Standing to the side, was him and Lance. Lance, who he knew he liked. Lance who, in this vision of the future, was tucked into future Keith's side, a golden ring standing out against his skin.
"She'll be okay," future him said.
"What is she's not though? Allura said that the incubator won't prevent any illnesses or anything like that from forming in them. They could be born with a heart condition!"
"It's not likely, love." Lance huffed, watching as Colleen Holt and a few other scientists worked together to reach in and pull something out of the incubator.
A baby, covered in slime. A baby girl. As soon as she was able to breathe, she started to wail. Colleen took her and cleaned her off, weighing her and then wrapped her up.
Colleen walked over to them, the child that Keith guessed was his and Lance's daughter, cradled in her arms.
It was Lance who reached out for their daughter. He started to coo to her, calming her down enough. Her cries turned to whimpers in his arms.
"What's her name?" Colleen asked. Future Keith said something, but current him couldn't hear it. Colleen smiled.
"That's a beautiful name for her. Powerful, too."
Keith didn't know how long he stood there for, watching his future self and Lance hold their baby. Then-
"The boy's cutting his supply off now," a doctor said. The same process, then a baby boy was lifted from the incubator. He cried too, but not like his sister, his twin, did. Colleen did the same thing, and it was future Keith who took the boy into his arms.
Current Keith watched as the doctors did tests on the babies, then laid them side by side in a crib.
Krolia's future self chose that moment to enter the room. The doctors and Colleen smiled at her, then left. Krolia just nodded at them before going up and hugging Keith's own future self, as well as Lance. The three of them, as one, turned around to look at the babies.
"They're beautiful," Krolia's future self said.
"They are," Lance agreed.
"What are their names?" Future Keith told her, but the names weren't heard. Krolia smiled.
"Those are wonderful names for them. I have no doubt that they will be strong in the future."
The vision faded, leaving Keith standing there, in shock.
"Keith?" Krolia asked. He looked at her.
"I'm going to be a father," he said. "I'm going to have twins in the future."
"Is that a bad thing?" Krolia asked. Keith shook his head.
"No, it's not. It's... it's wonderful. It's amazing. I- I can't wait to meet them," he said. He could feel the disbelieving smile on his face. Krolia pulled him into a hug. He returned it, laughing. "I'm going to have children with Lance!"
"I'm happy for you, Keith," Krolia told him. Keith buried his face in her shoulder.
"Thank you, Mom," he whispered. It felt natural, and so right. Krolia tensed up, but ended up hugging him tighter.

He had more visions of the future on that whale. He saw a glimpse of a boy standing in Black Paladin armor, a girl in Red Paladin armor. Then there was an image of him holding out two knives, identical except for the black wrapping on the grip on one and the red wrapping on the grip of the other.
Mostly it was memories coming to him, though. One of them was of when he was younger, and had asked Shiro and Adam if they ever wanted kids.
"I'd like to adopt," Shiro confessed.
"I don't mind what we do. I think that I just want to be a parent to a child before I die," Adam replied. Keith was curled up into Adam's side, sketchbook open and the beginnings of a drawing of his family on the page.
"Besides, we have you right now, and that's all that we really need," Shiro said.
That particular memory ended with Keith crying as Shiro and Adam held him.
"I need to thank them for all they've done for you when I meet them," Krolia said.
"You don't have to," Keith said.
"No, I do. They took care of you for some time. They gave you a family. I must thank them for helping you, for caring for you when I was unable to," Krolia insisted. Keith nodded, a lump in his throat making it impossible for him to say anything else.
The next time they saw a vision of the future, they were eating some meat that they had hunted with the help of Wolf.
Keith found himself in a market place filled with people who came in all sorts of colours, but dark, and wearing pale robes in comparison. They all wore jewellery made of crystals. Keith noticed that the most simple crystals the older people wore were glowing faintly.
They were following a girl, who had black hair that was tied up in a ponytail. It fell down in gentle curls. Her skin was only slightly lighter than what Lance's skin was, and Keith realised that she was wearing his red jacket. A belt around her waist revealed a knife with a red grip.
She carried a bag on her back, and she walked with a purpose. She was looking for something, but Keith didn't know what it was. She seemed interested in the people around her, listening to people shouting about food and clothes and other merchandise, trying to sell their goods.
"Come and get Soul Crystals here! Perfect gift for married couples and parents!" One of the vendors shouted. The girl stopped, seemed to think of something, then walked to the vendor selling the 'Soul Crystals'.
The booth was covered in those simple crystal necklaces that Keith had seen. None of these ones glowed, though they came in all different kinds of colours. Pink, purple, blue, green, red and many others. The vendor grinned when they saw the girl.
"Well, hello there, traveler! May I interest you in a Soul Crystal for your significant other? Or perhaps as a gift for your parents?"
"What do they do?" The girl asked.
"Well, these are an ancient tradition among our people. They are linked to two people's Quintessence. It allows for couples to feel each other's emotions, as well as acts as a compass of sorts for them, so that they always know where each other are, and how they are feeling."
"Is that why they glow?" The girl asked. The vendor nodded.
"Precisely," they said.
"How much would it be to get a couple for my parents?"
"Fifty VIC," the vendor replied.
"Here," the girl said. She pulled out a wallet and pulled out a note, which Keith noticed upon further inspection was a 100 VIC note. He wondered what VIC stood for.
The vendor took the money.
"Now, just close your eyes, and search for the crystals that match your parents. It's easier for those who have Quintessence sensitivity." The girl closed her eyes. She opened them again.
"Those two, that blue one with white swirls and that red one that has gold in it, those match perfectly," the girl said, pointing at the crystals on basic black strings. Keith's breath hitched.
The blue one she mentioned looked like the ocean, and the red one looked faintly like fire. He turned to get a better look at her, and saw that her eyes were purple, like his own. There were flecks of brown in them.
The vendor packaged the crystals and tied the boxes closed with ribbons.
"I wish your parents a wonderful and fulfilling life, Young One."
The vision ended there. He turned to face Krolia.
"That girl," he said. He couldn't continue the sentence.
That girl was his daughter, the one he saw being born in another vision.
"She's beautiful," Krolia said, apparently either having read his mind, or having come to the same conclusion as Keith.
"She is," he said, a smile on his face.
He knew that his future would be wonderful. He decided, then and there, that he would win this war and survive, so that he could see these visions come to fruition.

welcome the the sixth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.
1. Chapped Lips by Creatortan
Lance's lips were a distraction, sometimes. Keith just couldn't keep his eyes off of them.
i read this one and forget to bookmark it and it haunted my mind for WEEKS as i desperately tried to find it again. i went bonkers bc i wanted to reread it so bad, bc it is EXCELLENT. its fun and gay and the team as family dynamics are AMAZING, no team bashing here!! and as usual the pining was chefs kiss.

words cannot explain how much this series means to me. genuinely a series that is so poetically soft and loving that it makes tears well in your eyes. i started reading this series right when i turned 16, and idk it truly made something crack in fizzle in my brain, it made me realise how careful and choosing love is. i have read this series more times than i can count, definitely one of the top ten, and there are lines from this fic that i repeat to myself when i am looking for hope. i know it hasn’t been touched since 2020 but i will be watching it carefully and hoping for years to come. (my favourite, in the series, although it was hard to choose, is i want to kiss you there)
4. Read Label: Lance McClain’s Boyfriend by @bleusarcelle
“You know I’m not ashamed, right?” Lance meets his gaze sheepishly. “Like, I’m not ashamed of you, of us. Far from it, babe, I swear –”
“Lance,” Keith cuts in kindly, smiling warmly at the teen in his arms. “Believe me, I know but I do want to tell the world what you mean to me. I wanna start with our team, our family.”
“You should come with a warning,” Lance whispers, stroking Keith’s chin fondly as he drops his voice. “Caution: words that leave these lips may cause falling deeper in love. Thank you for shopping at Mullets4sales.com.”
Keith throws his head back as he shakes with laughter. Lance grins proudly at sound before he props himself on the bed and drops unceremoniously on top of his giggling boyfriend’s chest.
“But yeah, yes; let’s tell them after dinner.”
[Or the one where the team is on their way back home and stop on a planet where a pissy prince drugs Keith with a love potion and Lance has to endure watching his secret boyfriend being lovestruck on someone else that isn't him.]
bleusarcelle always has and always will be one of the core founders of this fandom fr. trust me when i tell u their work was THE work. i remember greedily reading every fic of theirs several time, and i still read several of them regularly. but i will always be a sucker for the secret relationship trope. and this one managed to have that trope with none of the team bashing or miscommunication garbage so it’s a banger from the get-go fr
5. When Moonlight Touches Us by @pmwrites-blog1
Branches scratched his cheeks as he ran through the woods. Out of breath and covered in mud, Lance eventually crawled back under the fence onto the school grounds. He stopped at the large fountain in the plaza, leaning heavily on it. He splashed his face to wake himself up.
It didn’t work. Keith was real.

THIS IS MY FAVOURITE VOLTRON FIC OF ALL TIME. i dont know why. i have no idea why ive latched onto this fic so specifcally, what about this fic just makes me want to reread it again and again, but if i could print this aand bind it and keep a hardcopy with me every day of my life i would. im obsessed with it. beauty and the beast who?? like this fic is everything to me. i cannot recommend it enough. im fully convinced this fic did something fundamental to my brain. nothing i write will ever be so dear to me as this fic and that’s literally okay. the stars aligned to make this fic possible. is it the fact that i know there’s pretzellus art for it and so the whole story was cemented into my brain? possibly. i truly do not know. but i am fully obsessed with this story and likely will be for infinity

i know its been years and you probably arent even into voltron anymore but let me tell u those rebel fighters are my roman empire with their total 5 minute screentime 😭😭😭😭 they couldve been so interesting like with olia and ozar killing off te-osh felt so lazy imo but it is what it is 😔 n-7 scenes were lingered on for so much only for nothing to happen 💀 i come back to your rebel coalition headcanon posts every now and then when i remember vld exists 😭 the relationship b/w the coalition and the bom i like to think theyve known abt the bom for a whileee but it was more of an unspoken thing rather than like an official talked throught sort of partnership? idkkkkkk plz ramble if u have thoughts 😭
Omg, this ask was certainly unexpected! Thank you for coming back, I really do appreciate it. Sometimes I also get random vld rebels thoughts and then it goes on for a day until it fades away again.
They're mostly Matt x N-7 related too, because I love them still.
I really have nothing on the BoM & freedom fighters. I can't imagine the rebels even knowing about them pre-voltron era with how secretive they are. After S4? Fuck yeah. It would still likely be a sort of "we each do our own thing but if you guys need a hand we will give it to you" kind of partnership.
The Voltron Coalition consists of many different species. Most of them likely suffered under the Galra colonization. And I bet at least one third of them struggles to accept the BoMs as their allies.
Oh, and did we ever have a talk about BoM's beliefs and practices? All of them being exactly what the rebels are fighting against?
Yeah, there would be a lot of tension I imagine. ESPECIALLY with how I write Ozar as the one who would rather fail the mission than to lose another soldier. As opposed to BoM's "mission above all" rule.
The only time the two rebel factions ever fully agree with one another is taking a piss at the Voltron Show.
I hope this was satisfying enough of an answer. Honestly, you coming back in my inbox has actually inspired me to do something with all my headcanon lore. I'm thinking of writing a fic about Matt's journey with the rebels. Like, without outline or beta or anything. Super self-indulgent. I just want to write it for myself and maybe someone will enjoy it too.

To celebrate our new name, we will be holding 2 events in early 2024:
1. A fanart event, tentatively titled “We Love Jancy,” will run from February 11-14. Yes, we are ending the event on Valentine’s Day… it is Jancy, after all. 🥰
(Artists: more info, including prompts, coming soon!)
And…
2. Once our fanart event has ended, we will start our month long artist/writer collab! Meaning, we want to see all the fics inspired by the amazing fanart from our “We Love Jancy” event. We’d like to pair up writers with artists so they can create a joint masterpiece (fanart and fic). The artists can be as hands-on or as hands-off as they’d like in the process. They can say anything from “Write whatever you want!” to specifying rating guidelines, setting, etc. The only thing we ask is that the fics are Jancy centric.
We would like fics completed by March 20th as that’s the first day of Spring (new beginnings) and s5 will be bringing us new Jancy! So that gives writers a little over a month to write their fics… fics can be any length but we ask that they are at least a Drabble (100 words).
Fic writers, both new and experienced: Please be thinking about participating and sharing your talent! More info on this event will be coming soon…
Artists, as I said above, you can be as involved as you want… it’s up to you! We just ask permission to repost your art (with credit) for this event only. You can obviously also choose not to participate, ofc.
We are really excited here at Jancy Fanfic Central (soon Jancy Central!) for these two events that we hope will bringJancy shippers together to showcase all the amazing talent that lies within our community!

🎨 Kirsten’s answers to our Q&A: 🖌️
1. I first got into fanart through the Sonic The Hedgehog series, I'd look up renders and try to draw them on paper. What drew me to the fandom was seeing other peoples drawings/interpretations of the characters I liked.
2. The fandoms I’ve made fanart for are: Sonic The Hedgehog, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Undertale, Steven Universe, South Park, Attack On Titan, Tokyo Ghoul, Haikyuu!!, Seraph Of The End, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Yuri!!! On Ice, My Hero Academia, Hamilton, Heathers, Ben 10, The Dragon Prince, Miraculous Ladybug, The Legend Of Zelda, Ace Attorney, Stranger Things (there's probably more but these are the ones I can remember) I don’t do fanart for a lot of these fandoms anymore but sometimes I’ll do redraws of the old fanart for the sake of comparing my progress.
3. I’m not going to do ALL the fandoms but some of my favourite characters to draw overall are Chat Noir (Miraculous), Keith Kogane and Princess Allura (Voltron), Link (Zelda), Godot and Mia Fey (Ace Attorney), Rayla and Aaravos (The Dragon Prince) Armin Arlert and Mikasa Ackerman (Attack On Titan) and, of course, Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers (Stranger Things)
4. My muse characters are pretty much the ones listed above, I always have to sneak my favourites in lmao
5. If I absolutely *have* to get a character in I always find a way to add them into the background or do a separate doodle with said character
6. I don’t think I have a preference, actually I enjoy drawing both equally.
7. Not really, my opinions are usually based on canon media.
8. I’ve made a few OC’s, they’re usually characters designed to fit in the media I like
9. Again, I’d be here all day if i listed 3 ships for every fandom so here’s a few of my favourites: Klance (Voltron), Marichat (Miraculous), Rayllum (The Dragon Prince), Miego and Klapollo (Ace Attorney), Arumika, Yumihisu and Levihan (Attack on Titan), Gwevin (Ben 10), Sidlink (Zelda), Silvamy (Sonic), Jancy and Byler (Stranger Things)
10. I tend not to draw pairings I don’t like, the closest to this Is when I used to do OC x Canon fanart requests on DeviantArt when I was like 12
11. I’d say the main genre of art I draw is ship art/fluffy art but every once in a while I love to do a horror/creepy piece
12. Not that I can remember but I’d love to do something like this in the future
13. It’s a mix of both
14. I'll draw almost anything in terms of rating but whether I'm comfortable enough to post it is another story - the only ‘nsfw’ stuff I've actually posted is gore but even then it's been pretty mild.
15. I do use warnings bc i don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. I feel like it's important to tag the usual stuff like gore, nsfw in general, any sensitive topics like abuse etc. I don't think I've had to add a warning that could be considered strange before though.
16. I don't use anything like headers or previews tbh I just post the drawings with a caption and call it a day
17. I don't title my art for the simple reason that I cannot come up with names for the life of me. The filenames of my drawings are usually just a random jumble of words or letters
18. Most of my inspiration comes from browsing random poses/references, listening to music, watching tv and movies
19. I try to get the idea sketched out as soon as I can but if not I'll just make a note of it in my notes app
20. Definitely!
21. Yes, it's usually stuff like AUs where I've gotten really invested in the idea and want to create as much of that idea as I can
22. No, the closest thing to these events is a week event for ships/characters. I don't do much of these bc I often end up procrastinating and leaving it to the last minute and then I end up stressing myself out trying to finish it in time
23. The main sites I post to are Tumblr, Instagram and Twitter. Occasionally i'll post before and afters to my tiktok account and once in a blue moon i may even post to my old DeviantArt account
24. Nope, no betas here I'm afraid.
25. I love listening to music while drawing, sometimes it'll be a character/ship themed playlist and sometimes it's just any music that I'm into at that moment.

Yeah, that was a BIG moment for the movie and it makes me cry every time cause this creature that's been attacked by humans countless time has decided he can TRUST one of those humans"
Poll Runner: Everything about this is just so soft and beautiful, it's definitely one of the most memorable moments in the film. It's a song about a relationship that changed the course of their people's history.

"this song submission is totally inspired by a fic I read based on it (written by the lovely negative4iq on ao3). it WAS v*ltron sorry in advance. but anyway it was a super angsty song lance sang in the fic, and the lyrics are alr emo enough but now every time I listen I'm thrown into the context of space soldier longing for his other half that's off god knows where putting his life at risk and never being able to see him. that they weren't quite a couple but they were so much more than friends, maybe they were getting there, who knows? but then the one left and now they can't really be anything but missing each other. anyway like I said the song is super emotional even without that context, and the vocals are SO RAW it always hits me so hard when I listen to it. also I cannot leave out these lines sorry: And I just keep on thinking how you made me feel better And all the crazy little things that we did together In the end, in the end, it doesn't matter If tonight is gonna be the loneliest this song is so good to me because it can be romantic or platonic. at it's core, its just a song about missing the person you want around most. a lot of the times when i listen to this song, if I'm not thrown into the voltron head space, I think about some of the people who used to be my best friends and of how much I still miss them sometimes, and especially how hard it was immediately after stopping being friends. how I used to always, and sometimes still do, think about how funny they would find certain stories, or how I still find myself doing things the way they taught me, or when memories in my camera roll pop up and i remember "all the crazy little things that we did together". pieces of them that stick around and don't go away - still the oxygen I breathe. idk it's just always a punch to the gut when it comes on."

No force on this planet could have prepared me for how invested I would be in this show. I loved PeteWay from day one, very quickly fell in love with NorthSonic, and then KimKenta wormed their way into my heart post-show and has taken up a huge space there.

Last Song I Listened To:
This is actually the song that inspired by current KimKenta and PeteWay fics that I’m writing. The KimKenta one, which I’ve posted the first chapter of, is called Thief of Certainty which is taken from one of the lyrics. The PeteWay one is called Your Eyes that Listen, which is also taken from the lyrics.
The song is originally about Orpheus and Eurydice and it’s so gorgeous, I 100% recommend it, especially if you’re a fan of artists like Hozier, Noah Kahan, Judah and the Lion, etc.
Favorite Childhood Book:
This is like, sort of weird, but I was obsessed with White Fang by Jack London when I was like 8. I used to stay with my grandparents while my parents were at work and my grandma had an app on her phone that had free books on it and I would read literally anything on there and White Fang was my favorite. Not really suitable for a child but oh well.

its....kind of a long story. see I was caught up in the voltron hype a few years ago, and was obsessed with it from day one. I feel fairly confident in saying that it was my first fandom-related hyperfixation that lasted for quite a long period of time. I had mutuals and friends, and wrote fic and generally just participated in fandom and had a BLAST despite the source material being. less than stellar. but well the voltron fandom is notorious for being absolutely batshit (derogatory) and eventually the negativity from the fandom kind of drove me out (it was also just bitterness and anger on my part from the way the show ended because man.) but regardless the voltron hyperfixation went dormant for a really long time as I moved onto other things. but the concept kinda stayed with me (because let's be real its an AWESOME concept with sooo much cool worldbuilding potential that was never tapped into) and I played with the idea of an all-oc cast with my own story as the years went by, but never really went farther than daydreaming and making picrews lmao. but in the last few months the voltron hyperfixation has been flaring up as I've started rereading some of my fav fics and remembering why I liked this show in the first place, negativity and disappointment aside. and voltron is the perfect combination of worldbuilding potential, fascinating characters, and stupid fucking ass writing decisions that fuel me with enough spite to just write my own version. I've played with the idea of a voltron rewrite for a long time as I've thought about the characters more and what I would have done with them and the worldbuilding if I were in charge, but I didn't really actually start thinking about it seriously until I started rewatching the first season and remembered all the REALLY cool stuff it had. so long story short, now that most of the negative people have left the fandom, and now that I've had time to be in a better mindset abt the show, I'm doing this rewrite both because I'm frustrated by the dumb directions the source material went, and because I genuinely love the source material. at least, the core of it. AND as a bonus I'm genuinely having sooo much fun thinking about and planning the rewrite !!!! every single character got absolutely butchered after s2 and I want sooo badly to do them justice, because I love them all so much and they're all really close to my heart and I'm literally just having the time of my life out here <3 I don't even really mind that the fandom is practically dead nowadays and so my rewrite probably won't get that much attention because 1) I have soo many friends and bestiemutuals enabling me and cheering me on 2) I'm GENUINELY having so much fun. like it's been sooooo long since I've been this motivated and inspired and excited for a writing project and it's an amazing feeling to have

I'm hoping to post Fireworks at some point on AO3, but don't have any set timeline for it. I originally planned to post it this week for New Year's (fireworks seemed fitting + a sick fic for the cold/flu season currently upon us), but it seems no one is around for the last two weeks of December (based upon engagement on all my updated stories) so not going to disappoint myself further and post that :) It wasn't well received on Patreon either so maybe it's just a terrible fic xDD
This Nightmare is Mine (Please Don’t Let it Become Yours) is indeed my story :) It is a Patreon exclusive one though and will not be posting on AO3. Summary for reference below (in case you were thinking of a different story):

Sheith fic
(#Sheith) Plot loop
(inspired by resetting lady in kakao webtoon)
TW: drama, suicide /self-harm,depression, attempted suicide, depiction of death, murder
Keith has been stuck in the inferno loop of the Voltron story so many times that he remembers every detail and everything. When the story ends, Keith loops back to 'after' the day he first met Shiro and plays the main story again. And every time the loop came around, there would be a 'silver coin' engraved with a number in his mouth. But in some loops, he died prematurely by 'other people', for example, in the 3rd loop, Lance pushed Keith down the stairs, breaking his neck to death due to jealousy in his abilities. (He just wanted to prank Keith, but Keith fell down the stairs, so his neck broke and died on the spot) (James Griffin tried to reach out and grab him, but couldn't catch him) Loop 10 sacrificed himself, crashing into the ship to death. Loop 24 was killed by Kuron (actually Kuron tried to help because he was conscious, but in the end he fell to the ground and died anyway) Loop 31 was killed by Allura because of both carelessness. (It's the moment when Keith just learned that he's Galra) Loop 45 He was stabbed to death by Lorter in front of everyone Loop 62 He was poisoned while eating alone by Sanda's hands. Loop 72, he was killed by Sendak etc.
Until the 102nd loop, Keith decided not to follow the original story. and aims to become a murderer who has killed everyone who has ever hurt him. But at the same time trying to help people who can help like Adam and Shiro whom he sincerely loves. But for the first time started as a murderer by plotting to kill Lance. Keith is searched by Shiro and Iverson and finds him plotting to kill someone. So he picked up a marmora knife and cut his own neck to death in front of both of them. Shiro tried to remove his cloak to stop the bleeding on Keith's neck, but failed. Keith dies in his arms
Shiro just realized in the next loop (103)(gets some memory back) that Keith got stuck in the loop and got killed until now his heart is broken so he tries hard to save Keith.

welcome the the first fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.
1. Blast Zone by @mareepicurean
In the middle of a mission, a bomb going off leaves Lance unable to hear. Still, while he's deaf, the rest of his team are the ones that won't listen.
This is one of my voltron fics ever. I’ve read it regularly since it came out in 2017, and it was one of the big inspirations of my deaf lance fic. The fic does a really good job of team hurt/comfort and Lance’s insecurities without making the team weirdly evil. An awesome fic that I highly recommend. (Also, there’s some excellent Shiro & Lance!)
2. Perishing Pearls by @ohcontrary
A training session with the team goes awry when Lance has to spar against Allura, who's wielding her new whip. The mere sight of it raises ghosts he'd much rather forget.
This one is also heavy on the angst, although fair warning: it mentions past child abuse, so tread carefully. The fic is handles complicated family dynamics and grief really well. It is a great established klance hurt/comfort fic.
3. How To Train Your Galra by magisterpavus [EXPLICIT]
“Shiro, I fucked up,” Keith blurted, wringing his hands.
Shiro paused mid-punch, shooting him a quizzical look. “What? What happened?”
“I think,” Keith whispered, “I think I accidentally roofied Lance. With my dick.”
This series is the walking proof that 2016 fics hit different. Should 14 year old me have been reading it? Probably not. It’s hugely NSFW, so definitely proceed with caution, but it’s a banger and has a lot of good banter, team as family, enemies to lovers, exes to lovers, and more. Honestly a lot of fun and a lot of face-palming, just remember to heed the tags.
4. If It Ain’t Broke by @overlymetaromantic
A 5 plus 1: Five times Lance takes a hit for the team, and one time the team takes a hit back.
There’s this specific scene in this fic (it’s a bit of a spoiler) where Lance is getting shit from a worried team, who’s upset about him continually putting himself at risk, someone asks “Even if it means putting yourself at risk?” and Lance doesn’t even hesitate before saying “Yes!” It’s such an easy description of Lance’s character that it makes me emotional every time.
5. Medic Lance by Fullmetal_Bitch
Multi-chap ft. my headcannon that Lance is the team's unofficial medic. Basically, it's a 5 + 1 of Lance helping the others when they're hurt and them helping him, just with a couple extra chapters. Story is so much better than this summary, I swear.Story is complete but the chapters did get revised so let me know whether you reckon it reads smoother now!
Medic Lance my beloved, truly. I feel like it fits him so well, especially as the Blue Paladin. This also has really good BAMF Lance, and Lance interacting with all the lions! Amazing, longer story.

While I'm on the topic of mechs, in my Ikepri mech AU, Clavis
*remembers giving Clavis's role to Nokto*
Oh right. Woops.
Chev revokes Clavis's piloting rights after a disastrous screw-up.
Yes Chev actually does it so Clavis won't jeopardize their current objective (moon siege) but also so Clavis doesn't make things worse and get himself killed.
Yes, Clavis doesn't realize that's the actual reason, because Chev delivers the order while publicly humiliating Clavis in the process and never explaining himself. In his mind, if Clavis can't figure out something so simple on his own then he's not worth having on the team.
Which of course is as false as it is true because Chev thinks in paradoxes and Clavis is in fact his most elite pilot. Clavis, being Clavis, ups his let's-casually-sabotage-Chev's-mech-in-the-hopes-that-he-casually-dies-in-the-vacuum-of-space game.
Emma watches the whole thing unfold with mounting disbelief at just how bad the two brothers are at being brothers. Granted she's been watching this entire saga for the better part of a year now, and the brothers are too far in the knobhead category to respond to her interventions.
That's fine, Emma has her own concerns: she's had to fly around in the former general's mech in order to give enemy forces the impression that he's still alive. It's as irritating as it is terrifying. She was on her way up the ranks on her own merit before she was pulled into the conspiracy. Now she's the one who's effectively dead so that the former general can be alive.
◆ You may think that bit with Emma is based on her role as Belle in the game, and obviously you'd be right, but it's also inspired by the events from one of my most fav fics ever from a thousand years ago Love's Cruel Fate. And probably also Voltron.
