please can we stop describing bigots as delusional. please. im so fucking tired. someone being sucked into a hate group surrounded by others who believe minorities should be oppressed and encouraging them to believe in conspiracy theories that the rest of the group believes, is fundamentally different from someone having a mental illness that causes delusions.
delusions, by definition, cannot be explained by things like cultural background - such as having a belief constantly reinforced by intentional attempts to rationalize it for the sake of maintaining power over minorities. yes, someone can be both delusional and a bigot, and yes conspiracy theories can feed into delusions, but the two are not fucking synonymous.
i did not spend my teen years convinced that i was being stalked by demons just to hear so many of you people equate my disability with incel behavior and genocidal propaganda. stop reinforcing harmful connotations about mental health struggles.

Can y'all please stop using words like "delusional", "psychotic", and "narcissistic" as insults. These are terms used to describe mental illness. Mental illness does not make people evil, stop acting like does.

The internet honestly and truly despises schizophrenic people/people with psychosis. They despise our existence. So many “mental health” advocates actively demonize psychosis.
People refuse to listen to us when we tell them not to use “delulu”. They can understand why using mental health terms incorrectly is damaging. They can understand not to say “intrusive thoughts” when they mean impulsive thoughts. They understand why saying “I’m so OCD” when not describing OCD is wrong. They are actively refusing to understand why not to use delulu.
I’ve had people tell me, when describing why not to say delulu, that it’s not a big deal. It’s not a big deal to you. You’re not the one suffering. And even then, you don’t need to personally suffer in order to understand why something is harmful. You should not need to see yourself/someone in your life suffer to have understanding for those who do. Your understanding should not be based on proximity to the self, ESPECIALLY if you consider yourself a mental health advocate.
And if they don’t use “delulu”, then they’ll often describe someone they’re morally opposed/bigoted as delusional. As if being delusional is some sort of moral failure.
Not to mention how if someone so much as mentions their psychosis, they’ll get bombarded with “I’m in your walls” jokes. If someone hears that a person experiences psychosis, they will actively attempt to trigger that person’s psychosis.
They hate us. The internet hates us. I’ve grown up on the internet seeing psychosis demonized my entire life.

watching the term "delusional" get the "hyperfixation" treatment from people on social media who would sooner intentionally trigger actual paranoid delusional people's paranoia as a joke than treat them like humans. and Im begging people to understand you can't choose to be delusional. you're not "delulu" for having high self esteem or choosing to believe more people are attracted to you than reality or experiencing the common phenomenon of Optimism. can neurodivergent people just have our words back please?

Remember to support severely mentally ill people this pride month btw!! If someone's identity is caused by delusions that's not your fucking place to come tell them they're wrong. If someone's identity is caused by trauma that's none of your fucking business. If someone identifies with one label due to comfort or shared experiences even though some other label would "fit better" don't fucking comment. And leave those fucking plural and autistic Xenogender people, whose genders revolve around their headspace, alone!
We need to be aware and willing to accept that mental illness does often affect one's queerness and is often in a complex relationship with it. You do not!! Get a free pass to invalidate someone's identity based on their mental or physical health.

please dont "reality check" strangers. it can be helpful and grounding if its a close friend and youve discussed it beforehand, but you could seriously hurt someone trying to "snap them out of it". psychosis doesnt work like a tv show.

Attention
If you're schizophrenic/schizospec in some way, have/experience psychosis, extreme paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, or in general have a mental illness / neurological condition that is widely demonized (like most cluster b disorders)
Could you please take a moment to leave a word or two about representation? I'm making this post so that people with misunderstood mental conditions could get a boost in talking about representation, and for everyone else to learn something valuable relating to portraying characters like that in original works (or fanworks too!)
Basically, I'm gathering input from people who live with these conditions about what they'd like to see more, in terms of representation in media, harmful stereotypes or pitfalls to avoid, and how to appropriately portray mental illness in fantasy settings for example.
So if you have anything you think would be valuable to know for people outside your group or community, feel free to add on! In reblogs or comments. No pressure though! You can only mention one thing for example, or maybe one criticism and one wish for what you'd like in representation. Don't be ashamed to go on a long rant either, if you have stuff to say! Whatever you feel like commenting on! I'll try to boost all/as many responses as this post gets.
If you're not part of the group I'm asking input from, please reblog for a wider reach if possible!
Obviously I know even people within the same communities can have different opinions and preferences for representation, which is why I wish we could get a wide range of responses to this.
Thank you in advance!

I just want to be owned! To be kept as a little pet! I want someone to dominate my life so wholly that I couldn’t possibly escape. I want their love to be mine and mine alone with no room for others in their heart. I want their utter adoration and obsession to constrict and kill me!! I want to be held hostage , their little dolly for the rest of my life! Ah…just own me wholly… with your whole heart.

As someone with paranoia related to being watched and/or listened to, the antivirus popups my computer gives me that say crap like “Someone might be watching you” or “Could someone be listening to you?” should be illegal.
